For JakubMacekCZ on deviantart who wanted me to draw the character Romy from the anime, Willy Fogg. And my what a cutie!

Marina asked the audience for characters she could draw to complete the sketchbook, so I was one of those who made suggestions. I asked three characters from WF and Clover from Undertale Yellow

Welp. They’ve done it. @nebula-horizons has finally infected me with Around The World With Willy Fog.

We both watched the show as kids so re watching it was incredibly nostalgic for me.

However I do disagree with a few of the designs, notably ones that don’t match the animal they’re meant to be. Rigodon is supposedly a French lynx, however his design makes him just look like a normal cat and so I’ve done a quick (kinda bad) doodle on how I think he could have looked if he was designed a little more true to his species.

The colouring is patchy, the lines are shaky but this is just to put a visual to my thoughts and honestly I just think he’d look better with ear tufties and more cheek fluff 🤷

Willy Fog Model Sheets

After some digging on the internet, I was able to find some photos/scans of model sheets used for the original Willy Fog series. I traced most of them back to two auctions on Mandrake (A Japanese auction website.)

Here's some general references for some of the main cast.

This is a closer version of the above image. (You can make out Willy's pocket watch in the back.

A clothing guide and back-view for Romy.

Now for the other characters. This is an expression guide for Dix. (You can make out a reference for Bully behind it.)

This next one has some poses for Sullivan, Transfer, Lord Guinness, and that raccoon guy from the Reform Club.

This is a reference for the fox club member. (You can see Ralph's boss behind this one.)

A size chart for some of the characters. This was the only model sheet I found that included Tico and Ralph. (There's a back-view of the characters behind this reference.)

And those are all the model sheets I could find. Willy Fog isn't as famous as something like Dogtanian. So there aren't that many references for the show online. That still doesn't mean there could be more of these for other characters floating around somewhere.

The signs as old-ass kids shows.

Aries: The gutsy frog. Frog with anger issues sealed in a t-shirt. It would have conquered the world already if it wasn't for the fact that it is, well, sealed in a t-shirt, which belongs to a high school student. Instead, he gets him in constant trouble.

Taurus: The Mozart Band. Four classical music nerd kids LARP 24/7 about being their fav composers. (💥Flash warning)

Gemini: Heathcliff. Garfield's evil twin, basically. He bullies dogs and topples trash cans for fun. He also has a hot girlfriend unlike Garfield.

Cancer: Stories of Maple Town. Sylvanian Families x Animal Crossing vintage crossover.

Leo: Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego. A thief that wears red, tells you everything you need to know. I think it got a reboot recently.

Virgo: Once upon a time... Life. Whatever this had going on.

Libra: Punky Brewster. Coolest girl in Chicago, meets grumpiest old man in Chicago. Together they fight the cold-hearted bureaucracy foster care system. Also she has a puppy. And mismatched sneakers.

Scorpio: Dennis the Menace. Suburban kiddo terrorizes his neighborhood. Still makes himself look like an angel in front of the right people.

Sagittarius: Willy Fogg. Furry British rich lion makes a crazy bet, takes his butler on a trip, while the police tries to arrest him for a robbery he didn't commit and gets a girlfriend who he saved when she was about to get burned alive. Nothing boring in the life of this gentleman.

Capricorn: David the gnome. Everyone's dad. Looks after everyone and fights trolls.

Aquarius: Pippi Longstocking. Coolest girl in town, is rich, doesn't go to school, lives alone with a monkey and a magic horse, her dad is a pirate and can fight the police on her own. Mums banned their kids from watching this cause they considered her an awful role model. Kids thought she was the coolest.

Pisces: Muppet Babies. A bunch of toddlers having very vivid collective hallucinations all day long in a nursery.

Happy Willy Fog day, everyone!

35 years ago today, on 28 April 1988, CBBC aired the final episode of Around the World with Willy Fog.

To mark this auspicious day, Andy Crane promised to lead a massive singalong. Send in a stamped addressed envelope, and Andy will send a copy of the words so you can join in.

Over 40,000 children sent in their envelopes. Andy was chained to the BBC photocopier for weeks.

Was it worth it? Of course it was! We still remember the words as though it’s 1988 again.
