This was fate. In some strange and cruel way, Briggs knew it was. After all, how many times had he said it was inevitable? Was it prediction or self-fulfilling prophecy? He could dream all he wanted about a better life, but this was the one he got. This was his destiny, and it would never be peaceful again.

She had protected him, and he expected nothing less than her continuing to do so, even behind enemy lines. "This pain isn't normal," he snapped, suffocating pain strangling his every word. He knew her intention, knew that his mother had meant as much to her. If anyone knew his feeling, it was her. Yet, the rage fueled the pain, and the pain fueled the rage. "I just got back to her, I just got back the girl who died in my arms, and now--was I not allowed to have them both? Is that why they left this room together? Some twisted design--some kind of karma? Is this what I deserve? Am I getting what I deserve?"

Briggs shook his head, "she would. She would want them to pay, not even for herself." Pointing to where Rory and Oliver wept over her body, he said, "that's her sister. Her brother. For them." Next, he scanned for his cousin and Ryker, "and for the women who love her. For all of us who love her." Turning back to his aunt, he continued, "they used her to break us, and she would have hated that. So I'm going to make sure they never think this can be done again. That's what she'd want."

He nodded, biting hard on the inside on his lip to hold the emotion back when it was all so vivid. He could feel the splintering of the glass-like fragility inside of him, threatening to break him open. All he could mutter was a barely audible, "it's so dark now."

For a moment, he almost wanted to do as she pleaded, knowing she was right and this was probably the plan all along. The OEA was such a massive organization, they could probably spare whoever was in here for the sake of their cause. Maybe they really didn't care if they were all murdered. He'd never believed they cared that much about those five hunters either, this retaliation had nothing to do with them. "I will not let them divide us, but humans have made their choice. They let this happen, so if they are afraid? Good."

Again, he nodded. It was something he did know about her: she wanted him safe. Just like his adoptive moms did. He knew he was letting them all down. "I promise I will leave this place alive," he offered as a small comfort, "but my hands are already stained, so it might as well be worth it." He knew, deep down, that's not how this would work, but he couldn't release his grip on the rage. He couldn't let it go this time.

He held his breath for a second, knowing that was true. If he meant all, he meant her too. And yet, he shook his head, choking out, "I would never hurt you. I can't. So please, get out while you still can. I'm not the only one who is coming for the OEA."

he was just a kid, he was just a kid. the kid she never wanted to be brought into this, a kid she had hoped could’ve stayed as far away from this as possible. she had lied to herself that he was safe growing up. maybe she should’ve found him, maybe, if Willow hadn’t been so tough on wanting revenge on his father she could’ve found him and raised him. maybe if she wasn’t so weak, she could’ve changed things.

there was a lot of maybe��s but there was one thing she was certain of and that was that she had to protect him now. Protect him and try and not get caught batting for the other side. he was a lost little lamb and she needed to save him. “no..you’re not dead inside. this pain..”a brief pause for a moment. eyes welling in her own eyes. “this pain is normal, trust me briggs, it’s normal.” it was the exact pain she had felt when she lost her sister. she was her best friend, her whole world. the pair had said they would one day conquer the world.

“trust me. She wouldn’t want to be avenged. I thought that, I thought that many years ago.” she couldn’t let herself live in that moment. the anger that boiled up and the fire that made her turn to the oea. the idea of killing those like briggs father was what drove her. that piece of shit was the reason why her sister was dead.

“because when she looked at you, it felt like the whole world was brighter, that you could wake up everyday and have a smile on your face. that you could go on with your day and know your best friend was there and that she would love you no matter what.”willow spoke, finishing off what briggs was going to say. she felt the same about her sister. her sister was her riley.

“briggs, please don’t do this.”she begged him, tears streaming down her face. she needed him to leave, him to be safe. “they want us divided and this, this is proving a point to them, that you or anyone who’s a supernatural can’t be trusted. that you are the vile monsters that make the humans believe we are.” a pause for a moment as she sucked in a deep breathe.

“and you’re right, your mother wouldn’t want this, she would want you safe, safe.”she repeated. “she would want you to think about this all, think about the deaths you are going to have on your hands. waverley would not of wanted this. she would want you to be safe, safe and out of here. she would want you to let me deal with this.”

eyes looking around the room for a moment.” I can’t stop you, but if your going to kill every oea member here, then you need to start with me.” willow spoke, taking a step closer to him.

The origins of the holiday date back to pagan celebrations of fertility rites & the coming of spring. After the Norse were Christianized, the pagan celebration became combined with the legend of St. Walburga, an English-born nun who lived at Heidenheim monastery in Germany & later became the abbess there. Saint Walpurga was hailed by the Christians of Germany for battling "pest, rabies, & whooping cough as well as against witchcraft". Christians prayed to God through the intercession of Saint Walpurga in order to protect themselves from witchcraft, as Saint Walpurga was successful in converting the local populace to Christianity. Although it is likely that the date of her canonization is purely coincidental to the date of the pagan celebrations of spring, people were able to celebrate both events under church law without fear of reprisal.

Walpurgis Night is still a traditional holiday celebrated on April 30th in northern Europe & Scandinavia. In Sweden typical holiday activities include the singing of traditional spring folk songs & the lighting of bonfires. In Germany the holiday is celebrated by dressing in costumes, playing pranks on people & creating loud noises meant to keep evil at bay. Many people also hang blessed sprigs of foliage from houses & barns to ward off evil spirits, or they leave pieces of bread spread with butter & honey, called ankenschnitt, as offerings for phantom hounds.

There are plenty of generalised practitioner resources that can work for everyone but as I have Irish ancestry and worship Hellenic deities quite a few of my resources are centred around Celtic Ireland, ancient Greece and the Olympic mythos. Meet Evelyne LAVANDIN🐍

A/N: I’ve been wanting to include this character sheet created by @kiwiplaetzchen [link] in my post about Evelyne for a long time. So here it is, done. 🙂

Nickname: Thorn (by Briar & Foley, before Hogwarts), Grass Snake (by Ominis=> He compares her to this animal to criticise her habit of avoiding conflict, which has become more affectionate over the years. What's more, when the irony is that this animal is Evelyne's patronus, she doesn't dare tell him for fear he'll make fun of her.😆)

Hometown: UK, she moved to the Marlborough area after her studies at Hogwarts

Gender identity: Witch (She/her)

Sexuality: demiromantic/demisexual

Weight: as an adult, 53 kg

Hair: light brown. By the age of 11, they are dull, dry and shoulder-length. Her hair reaches the small of her back in just a few years. She imitated Professor Garlick by styling her hair in two braids until her fourth year at Hogwarts, when she opted for a chignon, which combined practicality and sophistication.

Eyes: Hazel

Other physical characteristics: The Thurisaz rune marked along her neck (left). She applies a “Geranium Rosat” regenerating balm and hides the red, swollen scar under a bandage until it's more discreet/until she assumes it. This happens in year 7. Everyone wondered what she was hiding under her bandage. [Ominis had several opportunities to find out but preferred to wait until she revealed it of her own free will.]

Style: As an adult, she generally opts for solid-colored outfits in refined materials. She's particularly fond of blue, black and dark green.

Miscellaneous: Although she is no longer deprived of food, she has kept up the habit of eating little and slowly. She is particularly fond of walnuts and hazelnuts, as well as infusions of lime blossom and mint.

Myers-Briggs type: ISFJ-T (defender)

Strengths:

☆ Reliable, meticulous and determined, she always strives for excellence and doesn't hesitate to roll up her sleeves to achieve it.

☆ Traditional. Traditions allow novices to follow in the footsteps of the more experienced, and this has helped her to establish herself in the wizarding world.

Weaknesses:

☆ Touchy. Although she tries hard to hide it, she often takes things personally, which accentuates her lack of self-confidence.

According to Ollivander, willow is a wood with healing powers. Willow wand wielders feel a sense of insecurity, even if they manage to hide it. They are also generally wizards with great potential, rather than wizards who think they have nothing left to learn. The Dragon heartstring, which forms the core of the wand, facilitates the development of this potential. Its length suggests humility and a lack of self-confidence, correlating with the insecurities expressed by the willow.

Animagus: None. But if she were in an AU, she'd be a grass snake. The snake's pale collar is reminiscent of the bandage around her neck.

Patronus: 🐍 Grass snake

Favorite spell: The summoning spell, “accio”

Special ability: She has a strong connection with the plant world. She can determine a plant's needs at a glance, or select the best ones from which to draw potion ingredients. Because of her past, she has instinctively learned to cast certain forms of magic without a wand or incantation. =>Herbivicus and all the spells derived, for example.

Because she has grown up with violence, her resistance to pain is much higher than average. For example, the screams of a mandrake don't make her wince, even if her ears are bleeding.

FANFIC: Lullaby for Cursed Seeds

BEFORE HOGWARTS

Evelyne was born into a loving Muggle family in another country, and displayed her magical powers at an early age, which attracted the attention of a passing covetous British couple who kidnapped her to use her powers for their benefit. They branded her neck with a red-hot iron one drunken night and Evelyne suffered their ill-treatment in the midst of general indifference. Her ordeal ended with her letter of admission to Hogwarts in the hands of Professor Garlick.

AT HOGWARTS 🐍

Favourite teachers:

☆ Professor Mirabel Garlick (herbology). This professor came to bring Evelyne her letter of admission, freed her from Foley and Briar, and introduced her to the wizarding world. She recognised Evelyne's innate talent for Herbology and the similarities in their backgrounds, as she was also a Muggle-born. She became Evelyne's mentor, and the two witches forged a strong bond that would last the rest of their lives.

☆ Professor Abraham Ronen (charms). Caring and passionate about teaching, he favours a playful approach. Evelyne had received no instruction before Professor Garlick introduced her to the wizarding world. Professor Ronen taught her to read, count, write and so on during the summer before she entered Hogwarts. Then he made sure she was completely up to speed in other subjects (history, geography, English, maths, etc.) thanks to private lessons throughout her first two years. Evelyne feels particularly indebted to this teacher.

Least Favourite teacher:

☆ Professor Satyavati Shah (astronomy). Living proof that the greatest experts in their field don't always make the best teachers. Her erudition and contempt for other disciplines make Evelyne uncomfortable.

☆ A special mention goes to Headmaster Phineas Nigellus Black, who despises Muggle-born wizards and made this clear to her as soon as she entered Hogwarts. Seeing him about to eat his pretty jacket when the Sorting Hat placed her in Slytherin amused her greatly. Inwardly.

OWLs (10/12)

The OWLs were held in the same year as the Hogwarts Herbology Award. After an incident with Ominis Gaunt, Evelyne sacrificed the two most time-consuming subjects in revision in order to catch up on her project for the Herbology Award.

She returns from her stay stronger and more self-confident. As Ominis was indirectly responsible for her stay and is more alone than ever since Sebastian's imprisonment, Evelyne offers him her gratitude and support, forging their first friendship.]

AFTER HOGWARTS

She became a Herbologist/magical landscape gardener, creating and cultivating flower and pleasure gardens for wealthy wizards. Drawing inspiration from Muggles, she also created Europe's first magical botanical garden, combining magical and non-magical species. Going beyond the initial objectives of conservation and education, her botanical garden became a popular meeting place for lovers and young people wishing to get to know each other before entering into an arranged marriage.

ROMANCES

Sebastian Sallow (Teenage flirting): To encourage Evelyne to bond with others, Professor Garlick teams her up with Sebastian for a duo project. Sebastian is friendly, cultured, funny and knows how to put Evelyne at ease.

He asked her out on a date at the beginning of their fourth year. Although Evelyne accepts only because it's what anyone would have done in her place, she ends up becoming attached to Sebastian, which awakens in her the visceral fear that he will be taken away from her, just as she was taken away from her parents. She breaks it off just before Christmas and they remain good friends.

Ominis Gaunt (love): Although he is Sebastian's best friend, Evelyne has never tried to get to know him, too intimidated by his cold approach, his aristocratic airs and the terrible reputation of the noble Gaunt family, which keep most people at a distance. But he intrigues her, without guessing that her curiosity is mutual. Ominis fears that her flirtation with Sebastian will jeopardise their friendship, and he begins to observe her closely. In doing so, he discovers that her calm, gentle appearance hides a great deal of inner pain that he doesn't understand.

Later, after discovering his Aunt's skeleton, Ominis hears Evelyne humming the lullaby that Noctua used to sing to him in the greenhouse, which sends him into a rage and he attacks Evelyne, terrorising her. He immediately regrets it, but the damage is done. The consequences take on unexpected proportions... To be continued...

Relationships:

Foley & Briar - This Muggle couple overhear Evelyne's parents raving about the magical phenomena their little girl is triggering. Sensing a good opportunity, they kidnap the child and take her to England, where they exploit her uncontrolled gifts. Evelyne met the couple one last time in her sixth year. Discovering what has become of them since she left will plunge her into deep distress.

Anne Sallow & Imelda Ryes - dormates. In her third year, Evelyne forced herself to come out of her shell and form bonds with her dorm mates. She began with Anne Sallow who, like her, no longer had her parents. After illness forced her to leave Hogwarts, she became close to Imelda, although she intimidated her with her direct and assertive temperament. Despite their differences, they manage to get on well together.

Duncan Hobhouse - Evelyne doesn't like Duncan, who despises Muggle-born wizarfs like herself. However, she wishes him no harm. Even when he violently pushes her away as she is about to treat a wound caused by an accident caused by Ominis. Her pacifist temperament is extinguished when he dares to insult Professor Garlick in front of her. Her reaction makes it clear to everyone present that although Evelyne always avoids conflict, she does not skimp when it comes to protecting those closest to her.
