Maybe one of the greatest kindnesses we can impart is to allow someone to believe that the insurmountable can be overcome.

Maybe we can believe it ourselves; but even if we couldn’t fully, the stores we draw upon — of faith, folly, temerity or need, plain and terrible — to set that doubt aside in ourselves, in others, might be the very thing that defines our purpose for existing.

There are now two stories taking place in @imagine-a-fictional-boyfriend ‘s All Things End: the pursuit of a nightmare’s defeat, and the search for the way forward once William and the Reader survive the ordeal. Dove’s two characters are in their own way lost, adrift in the world with no more connection to those they once held dear. We as readers want to believe that it’s an easy truth for them to remain with each other.

Dove makes us want that truth for them.

From the start, this series has been about the improbable hope glimpsed through the characters’ eyes. It lets us set the unending dark aside, and go with them to grapple with the beast in the well.

So, Ben Barnes pulled an art student, who must be in his 20s to be a student, and a silver haired DILF in the SAME F-KING EPISODE.

I swear this guy did not just stop aging, he transcended it.😍❤

Imagine wondering why William has gotten into the habit of inserting priapic tentacles when drawing or painting you nude.

“Does Pickman inspire you?”

Your lover’s brush clattered on the easel’s shelf. “What do you mean?”

You repeated yourself and smiled slightly when his usually agile fingers knocked the brush onto the floor.

“Not that I’m complaining…”

William blushed as he retrieved his brush. He felt guilty over his fantasies of you coupling with figures from his classmate’s work. Really, depicting you being penetrated by slightly grotesque phalluses was quite tame compared to what he’d dreamt of you doing. The artist wasn’t quite sure whether or not to be relieved his nightmares had metamorphosed into dark fantasies.

One thing that was really funny to me about pickman’s model was when William’s Massachusetts accent completely disappeared when he said “You were embarrassed? You were fawning over him like a school girl” Like that was full on Ben Barnes and for a full second I was just sitting there like- how did nobody catch that

“He said your name gently and you didn’t have it in you to not meet his eyes…”

William Thurber lives; between all he has suffered and everything he has yet to face, I will take that as the miracle it is.

It’s not difficult to think of miracles as @imagine-a-fictional-boyfriend continues with this series. The ally here cannot be brute strength but something more sublime; because how else does one cling to sanity past unspeakable decimation and have the wherewithal to seek forgiveness?

The William Thurber portrayed in Dove’s story has kept his decency intact, and we believe this because the conviction that he is a good man deeply wronged resounds in the writing.

This chapter also hints at renewal, despite the heavy sense conveyed through the Reader that the way forward comes at a steep price. William nicks himself in putting away the most immediate reminder of the past; the Reader sees the stain of blood, but the way the chapter ends, Dove won’t have us overlook any incremental gain.
