The season 4 OMITB finale was SO GOOD! It had everything - it was emotional, it was suspensful, it was funny! Everything I love about the show tied into a perfect season finale.. 10/10!
I think it's only fair to begin with Sazz and her and Charles' friendship.
Tumblr media
Just the opening scene, which doubled down on what we were shown in ep 4 already - Sazz keeping up a strong front and hiding her pain for Charles' benefit and it hit just as hard.
And of course, having been told throughout the season/series how much Sazz cared about Charles, her last words hit even harder!
Tumblr media
Which brings me to Charles' reaction to the confession:
Tumblr media
Man, oh man! How powerful was this scene!? I actually believe that (if Eva's device wasn't switched to the vibrator, lol) Charles would have killed him! I still have chills when rewatching the scene..
And I don't think anyone would blame him since Sazz (and Glen) basically died for nothing. Just so she wouldn't expose Rex for the fraud he is.
All this makes up for the killer being revealed in episode 9 already, too.
I loved that Jan turned out to have been staying in Charles' closet this whole time just waiting for them to solve the case! 😂
Of course, I can't leave out my beloved bromance, lol!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As always, Oliver was hilarious! (Wish I GIFed the dance on the ledge as well, but apparently I forgot, lol.)
Anyway, how great was it that Charles overcame his fear of heights to save Mabel!? 🥹 And he was about to go all the way from his apartment as well before Ollie suggested Vince's! Speaking of which, nice of the Westies to provide a ding-dong! 👍
Finally, the wedding! Like Oliver, I was worried something was about to happen to Loretta, but thankfully, everything went smoothly and it was just beautiful! 🙂
Tumblr media
Mabel and Charles walking Oliver down the aisle? Perfection! Lol.
Also, when Howard was wheeling Winnie in, I thought it would have been great if Will was present, but I didn't think it was gonna happen.. And then I squeeled!
Tumblr media
It was amazing to see both, Will and Dickie walking Loretta down the aisle! ☺️
Perhaps it's not ideal that Loretta will be in New Zealand, but I still count that as a happily ever after for them.
But what's most important, our trio is staying together!
Last but not least, poor Lester! 😔 Can't wait to find out what his death was about! Hopefully, unlike Sazz and Glen, he didn't didn't die for basically no reason! 🤞
Can't wait for what season 5 has in store! 👀

best cdramas I’ve watched since the last one of these posts in 2023 (and some I’m still looking forward to seeing)
A League of Nobleman (watch on WeTV VIP | watch on AppleTV | watch on Viki | watch on bilibili | watch on YouTube) Adapted from the novel "The Mystery of Zhang Guo" (张公案) by Da Feng Gua Guo (大风刮过) starring Jing BoRan, Song WeiLong, Hong Yao, Guo Cheng and Wang Duo. Definitely gay, but in like a very focused, we-have-a-mystery-to-solve way. Loved the acting and the plot; cannot believe people actually gave Song Weilong shit for his acting in this drama. He was aMAzing. The downside is that the editing grew progressively sloppier as the drama progressed, and although majority of the visuals were very satisfying, I never realized how crappy the quality of the light was until I tried gifing some of the scenes. The upside is Jing BoRan holding kittens. Enough Said. 7/10
The Blood of Youth (watch on Viki | watch on YouTube) Adapted from the novel "Shao Nian Ge Xing" (少年歌行) by Zhou Mu Nan (周木楠) starring Li HongYi, Liu XueYi and Ao RuiPeng. Love this goddamn drama. I adopted the entire cast within the first 3 episodes and then I spent the next 37 terrified that half of them would get killed off. There’s def some major character death in this drama my chickens, so keep that in mind (and not a canonical death either, from what I understand). Anyway, this is my fave genre by far so I’m never really picky, but this drama is exhilarating and gorgeous from beginning to end. Highly recommend. 9/10
New Life Begins (watch on iQIYI | watch on Viki | watch on YouTube) Adapted from the web novel "Qing Chuan Ri Chang" (清穿日常) by Duo Mu Mu Duo (多木木多) starring Bai JingTing and Tian XiWei. Just sweet and fluffy. The plot is easy and devoid of complexities, but very satisfying nonetheless. The acting is definitely on another level. The entire cast has bonkers chemistry, and it’s about time someone made good use of Bai Jingting’s comedy potential. One of the top 5 easy viewing dramas on my rewatch list.  8/10
The Legendary Life of Queen Lau (watch on Viki | watch on YouTube) Adapted from the web novel "Huang Hou Liu Hei Pang" (皇后刘黑胖) by Ge Yang (戈鞅) starring Li JiaQi and Li HongYi. Loved this. Although it doesn’t shy away from difficult subjects, this is basically a comedy from beginning to end. Not gonna lie, I mainly gave this a go for Li Hongyi, but it’s hard to even notice him when Li Jiaqi is in the room. There’s no shame in being overshadowed by superior talent :) 7/10
(yeah, after all this, I rewatched Nirvana In Fire again)
Under the Microscope (watch on Apple TV | watch on Bilibili | watch on iQIYI VIP | watch on Viki) Adapted from the novel "Xian Wei Jing Xia De Da Ming" (显微镜下的大明) by Ma Bo Yong (马伯庸) starring Zhang RuoYun and Wang Yang. Continuously impressed by Zhang RuoYun’s skills. This drama is 90% grit and tension. Drool-worthy visuals. Interesting plot. Sound mixing that gives me a Mo Ran style boner. Make your friends watch it and they will hate you. 9/10
Till The End of The Moon (watch on YouTube | watch on Apple TV | watch on Viki) Adapted from the web novel "Hei Yue Guang Na Wen BE Ju Ben" (黑月光拿稳BE剧本) by Teng Luo Wei Zhi (藤萝为枝). Starring Luo Yunxi and Bai Lu. This was so breathtakingly gorgeous. The chemistry between the actors, the visuals, the special effects, the costumes, everything is stunning in this drama. The romance is by no means original, but still manages to draw you in. Absolutely worth watching at least once. 8/10
Still waiting on:
Immortality - based on danmei novel The Husky and His White Cat Shizun by 肉包不吃肉 starring Chen Feiyu and Luo Yunxi (you can think I’m a clown but you’d be wrong bc I’m a wholeass circus)

Step By Step Lotus - based on historical novel Return to Ming Dynasty as Prince by 月关 starring Zhang Binbin and Luo Yunxi

Okay, I know I’m 10 years late to the party on this one - but hear me out, because I want to offer my five cents in a tiny analysis of this scene.
I love A Game of Shadows, and I am always amazed by how even the action scenes build character and have a lot of important development and nuance spliced into them. Take the weapons factory sequence that I have gifed above, for example.
We begin, here, with the scene in which Watson saves Holmes so to speak, and at first glance you’d be forgiven for assuming Holmes is simply relieved to be saved from Moriarty’s torment - however, what he does express foremostly, is gratitude to see that Watson is safe. Watson is only in this dangerous predicament because of him.
Holmes has already tried to negotiate with Moriarty, requesting Watson to be entirely left out of the equation as he is now a married man and the partnership between them is thus dissolved - and failed, on behalf of Moriarty’s lack of empathy.
Moriarty is actively trying to target Watson in the train action sequence that occurs earlier in the film, to get to Holmes because he knows how important Watson is to him. Watson has, indeed, come to Holmes’ rescue as is seen above, but it’s the fact that Watson is alive and well that gives Holmes peace. The entire mission is, to Holmes, equal amounts about attempting to outsmart Moriarty as well doing his damndest to keep Watson safe.
We have the shoot out sequence following the rescue mission, and then comes the next four gifs. Note that Holmes has, at this point, been visciously tortured by Moriarty; suspended into the air by a giant hook dug into his shoulder/upper torso. He’s severly wounded, and we can see throughout the entire chase how he struggles to keep up. He staggers, he winces, he’s in pain and bleeding profusely.
Still, Holmes’ focus is not on what happens to him - it’s keeping Watson unscathed. Look at how Holmes actively shifts to shield Watson’s vulnerable areas with his own body, and his face with his hand. Holmes is not concerned about his own injuries, and the very real prospect that he might die - he’s trying, again, to to make sure Watson is takes as few hits as possible.
Finally, following the sequence where the gang is hunted in the woods, we have the huge explosion that sends everyone flying.
Holmes is knocked out momentarily, and what is his first reaction once he comes to? Check that Watson is alright, as well as soothing Watson’s concerns about him by reassuring him he’s fine. Later, he hands Watson the weapon as seen above to defend them both from Moran - not merely because he knows he is incapacitated and Watson is an excellent marksman - but because, as you guessed, Watson is more likely to come out on top if he has the weapon.
I sometimes hear people say RDJ is not a very good actor, because he always plays the same character - himself. But, he doesn’t. RDJ is nothing like Tony Stark, or Sherlock Holmes in this case. The nuance and sensibility he adds to his portrayal of Holmes by these tiny consistent acts of affection serve to prove as much.
Holmes is by no means a callous man, in RDJ’s iteration. He’s socially inept, he doesn’t understand society and doesn’t care much for human connections beyond his tiny circle. Moriarty has already murdered Irene Adler at this point - one of the few people whom Holmes did think fondly of - and Holmes knows Watson is going the same route unless he assures otherwise.
Holmes never forgets that this is a matter of life and death, and it is evident from early on that he is not averse to the notion that he may fail and thus meet his end - but he refuses to see Watson suffer the same fate. RDJ makes this clear in the way he constantly steps in front of Jude Law’s Watson, constantly hesitant to let him go unless he’s certain it’s a situation Watson can can handle on his own.
What I wanted to make clear is, how even in this scene that is all about action, we see how Holmes fears for Watson’s life, and how he’s desperate to prevent tragedy. This is what drives him to pull Moriarty with him into the falls of Reichenbach in the climax of the movie - Moriarty once again threatening Watson, and the fact that at the end of the day, Holmes values Watson’s life higher than his own. Holmes is, throughout the movie, time and again shown as willing to die for Watson no matter how he might downplay it. Irene’s death has hit him hard and made him utterly fixated on saving Watson.
Add on top of that the fact that, whether you see it as brotherly or something more, RDJ is phenomenal at portraying Holmes’ tangible affection for Watson. You feel it throughout the film, and moments such as the ones above contribute to showing us why, and how deep that love truly goes.
I just think this movie is criminally underrated, and RDJ gets way less credit than he deserves for the work he puts in. Not to speak of Jude Law, but let’s save that for another day. If you haven’t seen the movie, either in a while or at all, go watch it. Now.
