(@goresugars, just tagging for the new blog~)
Venti couldn’t help but laugh at the comments from his new friend. For some reason, the way Bellamy worded that last part was just … funny to him. Even as he was getting tipsy from the stronger alcohol than he was used to, he wasn’t really feeling nauseous. All things considered, he felt pretty good. The hangover would hit later, sure, but it was worth it to him. Very few people let him drink without giving him a lecture ; he was glad Bellamy wasn’t going that far.
“ Haha, no, no, I don’t feel sick at all, don’t worry … ” Venti’s eyes drifted closed for a moment as he took another sip, and his fingers drummed lightly against the dock. The melody, the rhythm was right there … the words … what were the words …? “ HIMMEL … he was my friend. My best friend. He died so long ago, I have to keep his music alive … but … everyone thinks it’s mine. It’s so hard to talk about him ! Only the people closest to me now know the true story … I don’t … don’t have to talk about that to sing some of his music … ”
The tune was hummed at first, as Venti tried to recall all the words. This particular piece wasn’t one he sang too often, so some of its lyrics had slipped his memory over the millennia. It wasn’t quite a ‘ shanty ’ … more like a quiet song that would be sung while lovers danced in the low candelight of a tavern.
“ ♫ … And my hand outstretched, do you dare to take it ? The FREEDOM so close, do you long to taste it ? For even in the dark, you can see the light hear this song through the blackest night for as long as you are with me my heart is forever free hold me close, hold me close, my dear… the life we long for is already here … ♫ ”
☠ The little guy was clearly not fine at all. Despite not being human it was all too clear to Bellamy that this one had never had rum before. The way he was speaking, staggering about, caused the sea monster some concern. Sure, it wouldn't kill him but he wouldn't feel great later that was certain. He watched him teeter, keeping an eye on him in case he had to prevent him from falling off the dock and into the water.
"Ya won't be sober if ya keep drinkin..." It would take an incredible amount of rum to get the sea monster drunk but Venti was so small, clearly it was taking it's toll on him already. Though he wouldn't stop him from drinking more, after all it wasn't his business to stop him.
"Aye can ye get a tune out? Himmel? Tha' name sits unfamiliar..." He idled on it, no it wasn't something he recognized. "Can ye sing in tha state yer in though? If yer fittin ta yak, jus' do it off tha dock n' ah'll hold ye back."
#goresugars#there will come a poet whose weapon is his word. ( VENTI / BARBATOS. )#( VERSE. ) don't forget who you are even though you are hurt.#why put off till tomorrow what I can queue today ? ( QUEUE. )

Rose Red’s All Hallows Eve: Ticket Please?
Summary- 4.2k Curtis Everett x You. Your boyfriend got you tickets to a charity Haunted House, and the special features include immersed scenes from the movie of your choice. Once you hear that the one and only Curtis Everett from Snowpiercer is a part of the choices, you just have to go. Prepare for a night of apocalyptic fun!
Warnings- Blood/Gore, brutal killings, swears.
A/N- Written for @jtargaryen18 Haunted House 2020. This is a 3 chapter story that will be posted within a few days of one another. Be sure to read the warnings for each chapter. The page dividers were made by @firefly-graphics , I highly suggest checking out her work, its really excellent and a bit of everything to choose from. The manor described in this story, Rose Red, is a piece of work from Stephen King, and I highly suggest watching the tv mini series, if you can find it. Perfect for this time of year. Special thanks to @what-is-your-plan-today for being my Beta in this project. Happy Reading and Haunting! 😈🎃
“What do you mean Bryce that you can’t come? You promised you would! When is New York State ever going to open Rose Red to be explored like this again Bryce? You spoke into your cell phone while looking in the mirror, currently doing a french braid to keep your hair out of your face. Your expression reflected back at you was a mixture of fury and disbelief. You had only been talking about this charity for 6 months, and here was your boyfriend backing out after he’d promised to come with you numerous times.
“Something came up with Maya, okay? You know my sister can’t do anything without fucking it up. Besides it's just a house”
“Bryce, don’t talk about your sister that way.” You sighed exasperatedly before your voice dropped slightly conveying your disappointment “And it's not just a house, it's just the most haunted manor and grounds in New York. They had it condemned supposedly just for that reason! You really can’t come?”
“You know that shit isn't real. Sorry Baby, but why don’t you take one of your friends? How about that Karen chick?”
You gave a sigh and roll of the eyes, Bryce never bothered to get to know any of your friends, not like you did with his friends. “You mean Stacey? Her name isn’t Karen.”
“Well, she’s like a Karen.” He retorted with a condescending tone.
“Whatever Bryce, I’m hanging up now.” you snapped out, he was being an ass especially considering this entire night had actually started out as a treat to him from you.
“Hey, Hey, I was kidding. Take Stacey. You know I wouldn’t be any fun, I never liked Snowpiercer, remember?”
“That’s not the point Bryce…” you sighed again.
“Look, go have fun with Stacey, and tomorrow morning I will pick you up, we can go for a drive down the coast, just the two of us. Maybe have a long weekend in Hampton. How does that sound? I will even take you to that hotel you like. That one right on the beach with the view we stayed at last summer. We had fun there, didn’t we Sweetness.” now his tone was a hint of teasing and promise, and although you were still mad that he ditched you again, you felt a warmth bloom in your chest that he was trying to make it right.
You bit your lip remembering, it had been a fantastic vacation, and Bryce really showed you a good time without ever having to leave the room. At your silence he gave a chuckle of triumph. “That’s what I thought, I'm gonna call them right now. Have fun tonight baby.”
“Okay, but you better be here bright and early Bryce. Love-” Before you could even say the words, he hung up, and you hit the end call button, trying to get over the feeling of disappointment before you called Stacey. You could already hear what she would say, but as your best friend, she would be there. She always was. Dialing her number, you pulled out the tickets from your purse, allowing yourself a smile.
What could you say, you were a fangirl. Snowpiercer was such an intricate dark story, you had fallen in love with it the first time you watched it on Netflix. So when Bryce mentioned his grandfather was helping sponsor a haunted house charity at the town's resident creepy manor, and it was featuring several film sets. Including none other than Snowpiercer, you just had to have all the details. It even went as far as Bryce having his grandfather putting in a good word of how much of a fan you were to get you in. You scrimped and saved, Bryce as well helped you with paying for the tickets. You had really wanted to do this with him too. No, he didn’t share your love for the story, but he was your boyfriend and Halloween was your favorite holiday. It was something you two could have shared.
Oh well, next year we will do what he wants to do, you thought to yourself waiting for Stacey to pick up her phone.
A familiar voice answered, jerking you from your thoughts. “What’s up? I thought you would have already left for the charity function?” Stacey questioned.
“Slight change of plans, something came up with Maya, and Bryce can’t make it.”
“Big surprise.” the answer made you wince, cause this wasn’t the first time you called Stacey about Bryce. “You want some company? I can be ready by the time you get here?”
“Please?” you already had your purse over your shoulder and were heading out the door as she answered.
“Don’t worry girl, I got you. See you in a few.”
The line to get into the grounds was long, cars piled up as the two of you pulled to a stop. Stacey leaned forward to look out the windshield, giving a soft whistle. “Damn, they pulled out all the stops for this charity, didn’t they? Isn’t that the Rose Red Manor?”
“Yea, they were able to get it for the night from the Governor. Pretty crazy since this place has been condemned, they were supposed to demolish it back when Ellen Rimbauer’s grandson sold it to New York. You know the stories here, don’t you? Men die, Women disappear never to be seen again. The house somehow has random room built on out of nowhere. No one actually knows how many rooms Rose Red has, and the grounds are much larger then the records state.” You let your foot off the brake, easing forward.
“Shut up, that’s not true.” Stacey gave a shudder and you laughed, winking in a teasing manner. “How does a house keep getting bigger? I say bullshit.”
“It’s all just for spooks, the place is safe or else they wouldn’t let us on the grounds.”
“If I die Y/N, I’m haunting you.” Stacey jibed back, pulling up to the concession stand, and you rolled down your window.
“How many, and what set are you here to visit?” a tired voice sounded at you while you pulled the tickets out of your purse and handed them out the window.
“2, for the Snowpiercer, Curtis Everett set.”
The redhead took your tickets, her green eyes flickering to check them before she gave a slight smirk of perfectly painted ruby lips. She leaned forward, to look into the car. “Curtis Everett you say? A personal favorite of mine, the set reminds me a bit of home.” Your eyes flickered to her name tag, reading Natasha Romanoff, it sounded Russian, where it is assumed the train derailed at the end of the film. “Curtis is a bit intimidating, but don’t get scared, it's all a part of the show.” She stamped your tickets and collected bracelets, handing them back to you which you and Stacey both snapped onto your wrists. “Enjoy, and make sure you have those tickets on you. The Wilford on set will be looking to collect them. Bozhe, pomiluy tebya.” God have mercy on you.
Your brows came together in confusion at the foreign launguage and gave a nod. “Thanks?”
The woman smiled and snapped her window shut, ending the conversation. Pulling the car away to continue to park, Stacy wrinkled her nose. “What was that about?”
“You got me. I don’t even know what language that was, I’m guessing Russian?” You watch and follow the people directing you to park and are soon in your designated spot. “Whatever, you ready?” The uneasiness slipped away as you got excited, cause lets face it, Curtis Everett had been a crush for you since you saw the movie. And now you were going to see him, well the actor in the role, once again. From what you could tell this charity was an a-list kind of deal, cause after hours of scouring online, you found nothing talking about Chris Evans doing this function. Maybe Bryce was good for something, you thought as you got out of the car, and then chided yourself for being so cruel to your boyfriend. After all, if it wasn’t for him, you wouldn’t be seeing Curtis or the Snowpiercer set. While you two were walking, apparently the last ones in the queue, you pulled out your phone to send him a message.
Hey, Stacey, and I just got here. Miss you and Love you.
It wasn’t even a few minutes till your phone pinged back
Have a good time and don’t get too scared.
Smiling to yourself at the glowing screen, you stuffed your phone back in your purse and proceeded towards the front where you showed your bracelets.
“Ahh Snowpiercer, you actually go around back. Follow me.” Your host said as he led you around the side of the building, away from the last of the people disappearing inside.
“We're not going into the house?” you couldn’t help but feel disappointed at the idea, it was supposedly one of the most famous haunted houses in New York State. The well-dressed host turned, looking at you for a moment before putting on a suave smile.
“Since you are special guests, I’ll wait for you after your tour with Curtis Everett on Snowpiercer. Give you a proper tour of Rose Red. But I assure you, that you’re in for a better treat, this is a truly exclusive walk though as hardly anyone gets to explore this much of Rose Red. Did you know that Ellen Rimbauer also had a private train on the grounds? It’s not documented as extensively as the house is, but many strange occurrences have happened here as well. It’s rumored that a single match light can be seen running up and down the aisles. Workers will be glimpsed from the corner of your eye in the darkest shadows. The ones that have visited the train claim to feel extensive chills, and in the engine, ramblings and whispers of madness can be heard. Most assume it's the conductor, looking for his replacement.” Your host continued, while out of the darkness a massive ominous train loomed, vines all over it, and it almost had a skeletal appearance as windows were busted out of it, and it looked pitch black in all the openings.
“The workers used the train to bring in materials from the harbor to the construction site. And in 1903, a riot happened on the train, the crew claimed that they weren’t being compensated for the conditions, and they demanded better wages. When W. Rimbauer refused them, they put a stop to the train for good. Resulting in many deaths.” Your host led you to the front car, in which a pale man stood with a lantern and a single red rose he was twirling in his fingers, and upon seeing the trio of you, he promptly slipped the delicate flower into his robe and smoothed down his outfit. Giving a wave, he stepped down and you noticed that oddly he was wearing what looked like a luxurious robe, his bald head shining in the glow of the lamp. The more you studied him, the more you thought he looked exactly like Ed Harris in his Wilford role. You were about to ask, when he interrupted you with his own question to the host.
“Blackwood, this the Curtis couple? We were a bit worried you wouldn’t show up tonight. Which is a shame, as Curtis has been waiting for you.” He seemed to direct his answer solely at you, his pale blue eyes glinting gleefully at you, it was the only way you could describe it, but they still sent a shiver down your back. Ed Harris or not, he was a good Wilford, you thought to yourself as you tried not to let his act give you the creeps. Stacey pulled in closer to you, hooking her arm through yours and whispering.
“You sure we should go on this train? It’s pretty fucking creepy back here. And where is everyone else?”
Blackwood cleared his throat with a smile. “Now ladies, the Curtis scene was very exclusive. In fact, only you two were able to get tickets. Seeing how it’s away from the main house. But I’m going to leave you in the capable hands of Wilford here as I must return for the next group. I will be back soon to give you a house tour afterward. You ladies enjoy the fully immersed experience.”
Your host left you with Wilford, who lifted his lamp to show a path that led down the side of the train. “It’s just a way down here, Curtis will meet you inside, and take you on the tour of Snowpiercer. Now, remember, he will not be breaking character as is per his instructions. We want this to be as authentic as possible.”
You and Stacey follow along behind his seemingly smooth stride, both of you tripping up a bit although Wilford seemed to have no issues with the uneven ground. Both of you were panting a bit when he came to a stop, and held a hand up to a ladder, leading into the darkest opening you’ve ever seen.
“There are no lights inside?” You drawled out and Stacey braced her hand against the train to catch her breath.
“How the hell are we supposed to see? And climb in with heels? No one told us that this was going to be an expedition just to see a movie set.” the woman snapped out, and Wilford turned that gaze from you to Stacey, giving a cold smile.
“It will all come on once you're inside, everything is in its preordained place in Snowpiercer and we are allowing you to really see it all come to life. But before you two go on, can I have your tickets please? No one goes onto the snowpiercer without one.” His grin turned eerie in the shadows on the lantern he had brought with him, and you were quick to look away from it,
Fuck he is weird. You shudder, while searching your bag and handing over both tickets. He immediately put them in his robe and held the lantern up so you could see a bit better to get inside. Grasping the ladder, you start to climb in, Stacey following right behind, holding onto the back of your shirt. One you stumbled in, and Stacey did too, you both turned to look back out, expecting Wilford to follow you in, but the door slammed shut, and a shudder went through the train, hard enough so you both yelped, falling into each other.
“Y/N! What the fuck is this? We have to get out of here.” You could feel Stacey digging into your arms in a panic, and you stumbled back to where the door was, your hands slamming against freezing cold metal, your palms pounding on the vibrating metal.
“Why is it vibrating? WHY IS THE TRAIN MOVING?” You started to yell, and Stacey moved up next to you, also slamming her palms against the metal walls. Blinding light made you both yelp and cover your eyes, stumbling to land in a heap when you pulled your arm away from your face, blinking to get your pupils to focus. It was an empty train cart, windows that appeared to be filled with bright natural light lined the walls, and at each end, metal doors that have yet to be opened. Stacey takes the first tentative moves to stand up, pulling herself to look out a window and her eyes widened in disbelief.
“What is it?” You ask as you start to push yourself up to a stand, and she shakes her head as if to shake whatever she was seeing away, muttering over and over.
“What the fuck?”
You make your way over, and all you can see is snow. Snow and ice, speeding past like this train were actually able to run on a track. Buildings encased in snow, making way to nothing but white, everywhere. Even the windows had frost encasing around the edges, your breaths fogging the glass.
“How? What?” you question, beyond confused and rubbing at your face to look again. How the hell could this be? You go to reach in your bag for your phone, and look down to see it is gone. And not just your phone, your bag. Scanning the train, there was no sign of it. Panic settled in a little more now that you didn't have a way to call for help should you need it.
Stacey pressed her fingers to the glass, her tone a bit shrill as if she was trying to convince herself it was make believe. “Gotta be like we're watching a screen right? Just supposed to look like the trains moving.” Although the train gave another shudder, swaying back and forth.
You never got an answer, as one end the doors swung open and people wearing all black spilled into the train, all carrying axes, faces masked so you couldn’t see anything discernible about them. Except for flashing teeth among happy grins. Each one hefting their ax like it was a toy. Your confused addled brain screamed at you to pay attention. Danger. But you were in too much of a shock to really focus.
Another whoosh and you spin around to see who was coming out the other side, Stacey whimpering in fear next to you, still staring at the first group. But your eyes raked over these men, dirty and worn looking. The one in front had a wide stance, his feet braced against the rocking of the train like he was familiar with it. A black trench coat swept around him, ragged sweaters piled over a broad chest and your gaze fell onto a familiar hard face, scanning his opponent, drawing himself into a more fighting stance. Curtis Everett.
“Oh shit” it dawns on you what scene this was and you draw Stacey closer to you, and back against a wall.
“What? Oh god, I don’t understand what is happening.” Stacey said in a panicked voice, and you shook her a bit.
“I don’t know either, but stay out of everyone’s way, okay? Those axes are not fakes!” The weapons they held were clearly not props, the heavy blade handles slapped in palms, and gleamed in the winter sun streaming through the windows. A touch would easily slice into anything. And these two groups look ready to hack into each other.
“Shouldn’t they help us get out?” Stacey’s eyes rolled wildly, and you gulped, seeing the large trout get passed up, and just as you guessed, the ax easily sliced into the fish’s flesh, drizzling blood down to see along the edge, dripping down the handle and to the floor.
“I don't think so Stace…” You whipped back to look at the opposing group, feeling Curtis’s gaze seeking yours with a glimmer of hatred and confusion behind them. For half a second, then it was back on their enemies. You could see it, the taunting lunges each group made, and just when they both broke for each other, you screamed and yanked Stacey down onto the ground as they all collided. Attempting to avoid stomping feet and falling blades, you two tried to stick to the wall, screaming and covering your heads, blood splattering everywhere above you in hot sticky sprays that rained down on your two.
Stacey wouldn’t stop screaming, her voice piercing above the noise of the fighting, bodies started to litter the floor, and you tried to make your way towards one of the exits, your hands and knees slipping in warm fluid. Over bodies you dragged yourself when Stacey’s screaming changed to one of pain and panic. Looking over your shoulder, she was getting dragged away by her ankles, her fingers trying to find a hold in the floor, nails raking through the blood to create long rakes through all the red.
“Y/N! Y/N! Help!” she continued to scream, and you twisted to go back for her when she was whipped to her back and her arms came up in defense, trying to cover her face or neck.
“No!”
Whump! This is when you lost all your control and started to scramble back for her. There was so much screaming and you never realized it was coming from you.
Whump! The ax planted in Stacey’s chest and she jerked upwards, trying to push the blade away, and the militants foot planted on her stomach, yanking her loose. You would still see her moving, still alive. You were closer.
Whump! this one landed on her skull, blonde hair turning stringy red and his boot planted on her face this time, crushing in her forehead and nose as he yanked it out, once more red spray flew through the air.
Several whacks fell on her, over and over, spraying you with each yank the axe gave off Stacey's body, the militant man grinning as her blood sprayed all over him, you, any nearby person.
You were in shock, your hands to your mouth, as you saw Stacy's body collapse into broken pieces, blood spurting out of her mouth and she went limp right in front of you. His gaze fell to you and his wide bloody grin looked like he just won the prize, his axe lifting when he was suddenly thrown back and slaughtered himself. You didn't pay attention to who took him out, only catching sight of a whipping coat snapping in the person's actions, you turned towards your best friend's body, convinced she might still be alive. This was all just for fun, pretend after all, right? Snowpiercer and the Revolution did not exist.
“Sss-Stacey?” you crawled over to her, your hands cupping her broken face and leaning over her still warm form, doing your best to hold what remained of her face together, as if you could just piece it back together like a puzzle. You kept shaking her, although she had several gaping holes in her body.
“Come on Stacey, we got to move.” you sobbed over her, unaware once more of what was going on.
You didn’t notice the fighting stop or the survivors rush to look out the windows in a panic, but you did feel a hand yank the back of your shirt to slam you into the wall and keep you pinned in place. Even as you struggled to get back to Stacey’s body, lying lifeless. You didn’t notice any of these things till a growl snarled in your ear. “Girl, stop it! What’s wrong with you?” A vicious shake thudded your head against the wall, and the crack against the back of your skull made your eyes roll back in pain. The world tipped upside down, Curtis’s scowling cut face tipped around, and you went under, the blackness welcomed from the hell you just experienced.
“Hey Curtis, she’s awake.” was the first thing you heard, your head pounding and when you started to pry your lids open, figures were blurry, moving around, flashes of light blinding you till they were blocked back out by bodies. You gave a moan and lifted your hand to your face when the larger one slapped it away, and the cold slick hand grasped your throat, dragging you forward. “Focus Bitch, we don’t have all day.” Your eyes snapped obediently to Curtis, fearful and wide-eyed as you took him in.
In the movie, he was large, towering over others. Here, as he was staring you down, face contorted to semi-controlled rage, and leaning over you so you could feel his hot breath wash over his face, how the blood dried to crack along his cheek, and eyes that you swore were debating snapping your neck.
“I don’t understand what is going-”
“Shut the fuck up, you’re not asking questions here. Wilford sent you?”
“Wilford? Yes, yes.” You stutter, his fingers squeeze further and you can feel the hot tears streaming down your face, landing on his filthy hands. “He put Stacey and I in here, m-m-my friend. She was…” Your eyes rolled to where her body was twisted strangely, smeared in gore from where she slid around, or someone tripped over her. All you knew is her eyes started up at nothing now. Her wounds were gaping and bled out.
Curtis gave you a shake, his snarl brought you back to him. “She was what? What did Wilford send you two back here for?”
“We were here for a charity! I was supposed to meet Chris Evans, You as Curtis Everett.” your voice started to rise in a panic, your hands grasping his wrist at your neck. “That’s it, why is the train moving? Why are you all using real axes, fuck I just want to get off.” You sobbed, the survivors looked at you with disgust, shaking their heads.
“Once you’re on the Snowpiercer, there is no getting off.” Curtis leaned back a bit, looking you up and down as if inspecting you curiously. “You’re such a fragile little thing. Just like a baby bird, all brittle bones and helpless.”
“No getting off? What are you even talking about?” your tears started to sting your eyes, the panic settling deep in your chest like your heart was about to explode.
Curtis ignored your question, his free hand tugging at your thin sweater and shaking his head. “Fucker didn’t even send you back here properly dressed.”
You tried to struggle and Curtis slammed you back hard enough to make you stop.
“She’s fucking whacked out of her gourd. Gotta be a kronole head someone spouting that shit.” A young man said behind Curtis, and he got in your face, tapping your cheek smartly. “Girl snap out of it, that shite fucking rotted your brain.”
“No Edgar, this is different, she's lying. Good at it, but lying.” Curtis made to stand, dragging you up with him. You stumble in his hold, falling against his body before he dragged you along, hissing in your ear.
“I don’t know what Wilford was thinking Little Bird, sending you back to me with this innocent act of yours. But don’t worry I will make you sing.”

Sixty Eight.
Robyn has no shame; Robyn can be loud with sex and I know she can be, but she has been terrible. She has been loud with no shame, knowing her mother is in this home “you’re banned from sex” I said as I fixed my dick in my boxers “me? Why am I banned from sex, you should be happy you are having any of it” pulling a face at her “your mother is literally down the hall and you’re wailing out, that is bad. You can wait till your mother is gone home” pulling my sweatpants up “oh whatever, I wasn’t even that bad. You are just being dramatic, she probably didn’t even hear us” staring at Robyn just laid out in bed “we have been having sex since she has been here, I feel she knows. Your family is here, and you don’t care, I do though” Robyn shrugged “I don’t though, they are chose to stay here. Anyways, shouldn’t you be preparing for your event, I don’t know why anyone works with you. You literally haven’t done anything” she has a point “well that is not my fault I have people that like me, I don’t have to do anything. I am not sure about you though” walking around the bed “erm, where are you going?” she asked, “it’s like very early, we just went to sleep?” Pulling my top over my head “to get breakfast for the family, they are here, and we have to impress no matter what. Also, I just need to see TJ” leaning down and pressing a kiss to Robyn’ lips “right, ok” she frowned “I am not joking, I know you said I haven’t done much for this event and it’s true, so I need to see TJ as he has been here and helping. He is trying to show he means business and that he means what he says when he says that he wants to work for me, have some rest” pecking Robyn’ lips again “mhmm ok” she is too tired anyways to care, pressing a kiss to her bump over the sheets before going.
I pointed at TJ confused “hold up” then pointed at the stroller “yeah, he has been helping Uncle Chris with his event, he has been in California with me since. It was my time to have him, I spoke to Seiko and she said take him, even though I said I would be here for a while. She didn’t care” I am shocked “oh wow, hey there you little Chinese white man” TJ hit my arm “nigga” dapping him and then hugging him “it’s good seeing you, I just wasn’t expecting the boy here, I won’t get rid of you. You know that right? I know you’re like trying to prove a point and whatever” TJ waved me off “hey there fat man, you looking fly as hell today don’t you. Man he is extra chunky, I want to bite him” he is so cute “he fat as hell this baby, his diaper stank as hell too” makes me laugh because TJ is skinny as hell and Seiko isn’t fat, so this baby is just extra big for no reason “I am glad you can come out, I don’t even know what is happening. Like y’all set this event up and I haven’t even took interest which of course I do but still” TJ and I started to walk off, we aren’t going anywhere in particular, just a quick catch up “bro, your friendship with Tyga and Drake has boosted the hype for this because Cena reached out to them both and they promoted the event today, it’s a open shop with all your shit there, we will be an Instagram live just counting down to the relaunch and then people can come in and buy your shit too and just have a good time, I think Tyga is coming he said he can but yeah, should be easy work. You got fans?” pulling a face “how?” I am confused “they love you, look with your eyes bro, you have” I don’t really paid attention like that.
TJ son is adorable, he just fat as hell and I like that. Adding a caption to the IG post of his son ‘Fat man came to see uncle in AM’ pressing send on the post “he can be my daughter’ bodyguard, I like the muscles. He can sit on them” TJ hit my arm “wait, what? Rih having a girl” nodding my head “yeah, I am having a daughter, but I would have liked a son. So they can protect their sister you know, I like that. With Tootie I couldn’t do that because I was young, so I would have liked it but it’s ok. I guess I am just going to do that. Imagine if she is her momma’ twin?” TJ’ eyes widened “bro, you got problems, but Camron would be there for her cousin, you know that. They about to be best cousins, but don’t call him fat. He gets a little sensitive like that” I laughed out “oh wait, do not say anything about it. Nobody knows about Robyn having a girl” I keep forgetting that “I won’t, promise. I am happy for you but it’s going to be stressful. Women be hard as hell and then imagine a teenage daughter, bringing some little nigga home that is from the hood” rolling my eyes “don’t, I am getting the shudders. If she is anything like Robyn she is going to have me around her little finger, I am not ready for that TJ” shaking my head “all good though, tomorrow is your big twenty six!” he placed his arm around me “man, I am excited. Big things for the both of us, you know I got you” I have a busy few days “yeah, what you doing for your birthday? You never said” I shrugged “bro, I am kind of in the doghouse about a lot, her family is at my home so I can’t do shit but smile” TJ busted out laughing.
Monica has been making breakfast every morning for us so I thought I would bring in some breakfast for the family, I kind of regretted it because it cost me a lot, it was cheaper buying the groceries and making Robyn cook it “thank you so much Chris” Monica thanked me “it’s ok, I wanted you to relax for today. You have been doing a lot, Robyn on the other hand” Robyn nudged me “what are you doing for your birthday? I remembered, I didn’t actually. Someone, well a fanpage put up that it’s your birthday so yeah, what is you doing about it? You have been so quiet” putting my fork down smiling “erm, well I can’t be doing anything really because you know yeah. So home really” chewing on my bottom lip “erm, why what the hell you want to do huh?” Robyn questioned “nothing dear, I just want to sit here with you” Noella snorted laughing “the sarcasm is funny, Robyn he is telling you that you are keeping him hostage. Blink twice if you need help” she joked, I blinked twice and busted out laughing “the only thing he is getting from me is a birthday card” looking over at Robyn, she is going to torture me “yay, happy birthday to me” I mumbled “I am your gift am I not?” licking my top lip “mhmm yeah, I ain’t say that. I am just saying” Robyn is going to go above and beyond to make sure I don’t have fun “have you not had enough fun?” nodding my head “I have, I am thinking of going VA actually” I added “no you’re not” I looked down at my plate “ok” I mumbled, she isn’t going to let me do anything.
Noella keeps laughing at me and I don’t blame her because it’s laughable “boring birthday for Breezy awwww” I gasped “you are getting me in trouble here, anyways. So who is coming to my little event, Robyn has clearly uninvited herself” Robyn scoffed “so you are uninviting your baby?” I knew she would say that, sitting back in the chair “nah it can come, I just need to take it out of your womb” I grinned “I planted the seed there so yeah” Robyn and I are just annoying each other “you two are terrible but I am coming, Monica is babysitting Majesty so yay” I smiled wide “I am glad I have someone there that is so supportive” crossing my arms across my chest “you both argue a lot actually, last night Robbie you kept shouting ass a lot. Interrupted my sleep” I snorted laughing “ah god, I swear it’s your daughter. She has been very violent towards me and then she is shouting at me late at night too” I sniggered “nigga please, I swear he is a liar. That is all I am telling you all, I am going to get ready anyways. I am going to my ex-husband event” watching Robyn get up from the seat “her ass is big, damn” I slapped it “you are totally getting divorce papers on your birthday, just thought I would warn you” she is annoying me, so I am doing it back.
I am a little sad that I can’t do anything for my birthday, I just think it sucks for me because I am in California finally. I can just invite some of the friends over, have fun but now I can’t. I will be here in the home, but I deserve it I guess so it is what it is “y’all ready” locking phone looking up seeing my wife has cut my sweatshirt “really?” you can see the bump too, she is showing skin “who knew about these comfy maternity jeans, my god!” she seems pleased with herself but both Noella and Robyn have both been playing around with my stuff “you know what, you both look beautiful. Ready though?” I asked, Robyn nodded her head “let’s go, mommy! We are going now” Robyn shouted, “let’s see this place then, you told Rich?” Robyn asked and I shook my head “why do we need Rich?” I questioned, we don’t need him for this “uh right, you will regret that by the way” pulling open the door “you look nice by the way, I like the stubble on you” Robyn loves me really “thank you” I grinned walking to the SUV, I love annoying her and she loves annoying me.
I regret not having no bodyguard, I didn’t think it would be like this. This is crazy, a whole queue to get in “this is on you Chris, now get us out of the car” I sighed out, opening the SUV door and got out “oh my god, Chris!” these girls started shouting, it’s me why they shouting at me “what?” I said half laughing “can we take a picture” chewing on my bottom lip, seeing security at the door and my smile grew. A whole store, this is amazing “oh my god” like I feel emotional “bro! aye!” TJ waved at me, I waved him over “get the guy to come over, I need to someone to walk with Robyn” TJ put his thumb up, looking back in the car “you hear that, my man got fans now” shaking my head smiling “come, be careful” she is pregnant so I want her to be ok, helping Robyn out of the car “poppa, thank you” opening the car door wider and the shriek of screams pierced my ears, they moved from the queue to me “listen, move back ok. Just move back” the security guy finally came over “move out! Now” TJ is also making them move back “back to the queue now” I swear someone’ phone near knocked my hat off too “you good?” Robyn nodded her head “I am used to it” holding her hand as made our way “baby this is amazing, I thought it was a party? A whole store?” I smiled ever so wide “I feel emotional, amazing right?” Robyn cooed out “I love it, oh my god” she is proud of me, that is what I want, to make Robyn proud of me “wow, this is amazing. You see this, this is my man’ brand right here” she said to the camera guy that is here.
I am in shock; I can’t believe this “a store?” I questioned; Cena dapped me “I told you that there is a surprise behind this. I believe in the brand and I thought we open store and have Black Pyramid and also incorporate Pink Dolphin with it, and honestly to see the crowd. It’s worked out for us” nodding my head smiling so wide “this is my wife” I pointed “hi, yes. Pleasure to meet the queen herself” I know they have been dying to meet Robyn for a while in person “nice to meet you” Robyn shook his hand “and this is Neima, she is his business partner” Deja’ eyes lit up, I saw her and peeped her reaction “nah, I got to compose myself. Like this is, oh my god” she is so dramatic “Deja, you’re embarrassing yourself, honestly” she turned away “I can’t, I can’t do it Chris. Oh my god” she is so funny, moving back “this is Deja, the pain in the butt” she turned around “you’re literally my childhood” she is actually crying, I can’t believe my eyes “I love you so much Rihanna oh my god” Robyn laughed “I been telling him these people only want to work for you for me, come here girl” Robyn hugged, Deja yelped out “oh my gosh, you smell like heaven. Help!” I snorted laughing “Black Pyramid! Nigga, wow!” turning “you made it out here” hugging Mel “you know I got you, bit late I think but I arrived” hugging her close “we just come out here anyways, I am just amazed by it all myself” this is crazy amazing.
I don’t do interviews and I hate it but here I am “this is Instagram live” I pointed, turning my snapback around licking my top lip “yes, and these are the questions here. Like there is so many” squinting my eyes, there is actually too much “ok, let me ask the questions. I will read them out, you step back” Deja pushed me back as she crouched down “I can’t see shit, like they words on there. You know before anything, thank you all for rocking with me on this live” I thought I would say that “sexiest country nigga I have seen” I snorted laughing “that ain’t a question, but thank you baby” Deja is stupid “I am just growing your head, ok so when are you going back to drawing? I miss that” that is a good question “erm, soon. I have been busy, real busy with a lot going on. When I get back to my right headspace I will be going back to that” clasping my hands together “when are you going to make some slides?” Deja looked at me “soon but there is slides you can buy, them Fenty slides. Fellas if you want to be on your good side with your girl, get them. Take it from me, spoil her” I am still in the doghouse “is Rihanna your buggest muse” nodding my head “for life, she is everyone muse. You can learn a lot from Rihanna, she ain’t just a singer and I think people will realise that too” I knew Rihanna questions would come up “someone put, I have to say it. How do you get on Rihanna good side? She has the world?” Deja has to ask “erm, wow. How do I keep this PG” I busted out laughing “erm, I can’t” I laughed “I am joking but there is things that I can get and give Robyn, she loves gifts that are thoughtful” I can’t just say what I want to say on this.
Tyga really came out, this is dope of him “my nigga” dapping him “it’s been a while, declining my parties now” I laughed out knowing damn well I won’t be going to any “too much trouble” shaking my head “appreciate you coming for me, you didn’t need too at all” Deja came up to me “come and take some pictures” looking up at where she is posting, oh them girls that were outside “me, why me? Since when did I have anyone like me, I will be back bro” hitting his arm before walking off “serious?” I questioned “deadass, they been asking about you. They like you” chewing on my bottom lip, this is wild “what’s good” I have no idea what to do with his “I ain’t ignore you outside, I had to make sure my wife was good first. You know, so which one wants a picture” she giggled “what is your name baby?” I asked “Neka, you are so damn fine. Like in person, wow. And you tall” laughing it off “y’all want a group picture or single?” I think it’s single “selfie please” nodding my head “sure baby, we can do that” placing my arm around her shoulder “my snapback is crooked as shit” fixing it on my head “aight go on” I smiled at the phone “can I ask you a question, like please” moving back “sure?” I questioned “please follow me on Instagram” letting out an oh “I can do that, leave it with Deja. I will do it, come here” waving over the next girl, these are some teenage girls. I swear if they were grown ladies then I wouldn’t be this nice or be even hugging them “I ain’t your assistant, this nigga” she might as well be.
Making my way to Robyn, she been quiet “Breezy, quick picture” this female said, oh she fine “uh yeah” placing my arms behind me as I leaned in “who knew you had that many freckles” I smiled as she took the picture “well now you know, thank you” seeing Robyn with Camron “aye, you holding fatty. Watch him, he is breaking backs” Robyn rolled her eyes “who knew you had so many freckles” she mimicked the girl “now” I said laughing “that was petty, I am being good” she is actually being petty “mhmm, but how chubby has he gone. I said to TJ I want him, I am sorry, but he is so handsome. Look at him, he likes me” rolling my eyes “poor guy” touching his cheek “so what can I have for free nigga?” Noella asked, she really don’t care “for you, anything. I don’t mind” dapping Rorrey as he came up to me “where you been hiding?” I swear he is late “I was around” chewing on my bottom lip and then saluting the cameraman that came around again “I just want to say thank you to the Black Pyramid team, this wasn’t anything without them. And thank you for everyone coming out, this is going to be worldwide. Thank you to my wife” placing my hand on her shoulders “she out here supporting me, my godson and the whole gang. If it weren’t for y’all I wouldn’t be where I am, I am a little tipsy, a little. Thank you, god bless” pressing a kiss to Robyn’ cheek, I better appreciate this cause my birthday about to be boring.
Robyn is awake a little later then usual “grumpy as hell aren’t you?” Robyn is being an ass because she can be, I fucked up so it’s my bad and I deserve it “not really, I am going to bed though” Robyn looked at the clock “you hear that ladies, he is going to bed at this time. Aren’t you staying awake for your birthday?” I got up from the couch “it’s just another day, and you’re being very annoying” it is annoying me “awww ok grumpy” I have to kiss her because if I don’t then she will have a face on with me “aww Chris don’t go” Noella said “nah, y’all have fun” pressing a kiss to her lips “goodnight y’all, thank you for coming out tonight for me anyways” I said saluting them “you really going to sleep?” Rorrey asked, nodding my head “I will sleep, trust me” walking out of the living room “you’re actually evil, how you going to do him like that on his birthday. Miserable” overhearing Rorrey say “he had his fun, so what. That ain’t my problem, he will get his cake and card, next time he will really learn” rolling my eyes dragging my feet up the stairs.

vanessa’s masterlist | one | two | three | four | six | seven | eight | eight.5 [interview excerpt]
You woke up by the sun beaming on your face. Already dreading the day, you pulled the covers over your head and buried yourself in the pile of pillows that were taking up most of the space on your bed. God, you were exhausted from yesterday.
See, yesterday- yesterday was a blur. Everything happened so fast. You and Tom were trending on Twitter for god-knows how many hours. Headlines about you two dating were plastered everywhere.
It made you roll your eyes. Do people care that much? And they do. People cared a lot about you two. People said that you two look great together, while a handful said you were in it for the clout. Technically, we both are.
So, now that you got the people’s attention, what’s next?
Well, for starters, they started tracking yours and Tom’s relationship from where and how it started. They wouldn’t find anything because you two aren’t really dating in the first place.
However, they did compilations of possible hints that you two were dating-or maybe was just getting to know each other. Luckily for you two, you followed each other on Instagram for quite a while now so you got that foundation to build up.
You liked some of his photos before, as did he. You actually found Tom quite adorable back then. The first time you saw him was when you saw Captain America: Civil War with your friends. You and your friends bonded over watching Marvel movies and once you saw Tom Holland as Peter Parker on screen, it was safe to say that you weren’t just crushing on Sebastian Stan anymore.
However, you did convince yourself that nothing trumps over your crush on Sebastian Stan. You also convinced yourself that you were crushing on Peter Parker-not Tom Holland. Peter Parker was sweet and kind, Tom Holland was not.
You pushed off the covers and finally pulled yourself out of bed. After doing your morning routine, you threw yourself into the couch with a coffee in hand while a toast on the other.
Today was your last day off before you went back to taping so you were expecting a pretty dull day today- that is until your phone kept on buzzing.
You looked at the caller ID before letting out a huge groan, “Zoë, Please for the love of God, it’s my day off.”
“Good morning to you too, Y/N.” Your manager said on the other line. “And I know it’s your day off, I just wanted to check up on you.”
You furrowed your brows. “That sounds oddly suspicious, what are you planning to do, Zoë?”
“Would you relax, Y/N? I was just asking if you have anything to do for your day off.” She replied.
“I’ll probably do a bit of grocery shopping later, but other than that I might bury myself in blankets and watch movies in the living room.” You answered and took a bite of your toast, frowning as you tried to swallow your sad and bland breakfast.
“Okay, that’s good to know-Oh, and I also wanted to tell you that your taping tomorrow has been moved for the next two days. Apparently, Alissa won’t be back till tomorrow.”
“Oh, thank god,” You sighed, relieved to hear that you have another day off. “Thanks for the heads up, Zo. I’ll see ‘ya soon.” You hung up the phone and finished the piece of toast.
You watched a few episodes of Brooklyn Nine-Nine before you gathered up the will to get yourself ready. After taking a well-deserved warm bath and doing your extensive skincare routine -watching videos about Koreans sharing their skincare routine on Youtube really got the best of you and your bank account- You put on a plain white shirt and paired it with your favourite pair of mom jeans.
As you grabbed your keys and your wallet, ready to bust out the door, you heard your phone ring.
“Are you home?”
“Yes, I am, Ronnie. Why are you asking?” You asked her.
“Cool. Can you open the door please?” She asked on the other line.
Confused, you opened your front door and sure enough, Veronica was standing in front of your apartment wearing her university sweatshirt and denim jeans.
“Oh thank god you’re ready, I had the most awful day at school. I just received my paper for my 400-level political science class and let’s just say that the mark I got, I haven’t done it in bed for a while now.” Veronica ranted off, taking her shoes off before placing her books on the coffee table.
It took you a solid minute before you just realized what she just said. “Ronnie, I don’t want to know about your sex life-” You said before you fixed your hair. “Or lack thereof.”
“I could really use some good fucking, ‘yannoe?”
“Jesus Christ, Ronnie-” You sighed as you handed her shoes back to her. “C’mon, I have to do some serious grocery shopping.”
“Okay, but I’m driving,” Ronnie said as she grabbed her car keys. “You’re a horrible driver.”
“Works for me,” You shrugged and locked the front door.
The travel to the grocery store was typical: you two belting One Direction songs the whole time. You and Veronica were strolling the yogurt aisle when she asked about your whole love life situation.
“Oi, I thought you and Tom weren’t dating?” She asked as she put an assorted pack of yogurt down the cart.
“I’m never going to eat that,” You pointed at the yogurt. “And we aren’t.”
“I will eat it whenever I stop by unannounced at your place,” Veronica argued. “Then what’s with that photo that I’ve seen with you two holding hands yesterday?”
You looked around, checking if there was anybody within-distance that could hear whatever you were about to say. “We’re not actually dating.” You murmured.
“Come again?” Veronica asked, completely lost.
“We’re just doing it for publicity.” You whispered loud enough for Ronnie to hear.
“I’m sorry, but how exactly did it escalate to that?” She asked, totally confused.
“Remember that stunt I pulled at the club the other day?”
“Yeah, you were all over the news.”
“That was the reason as to why it had to escalate to me and him dating.” You answered as you pushed the cart again.
“Yeah, no, I need a cup of coffee before we do this, I’m all caffeine-out,” Veronica said before she bid of herself off and went towards the Starbucks that was found near the entrance of the store.
You rolled your eyes playfully at your friend and carried on completing the least stressful adult task for you.
It was actually quite serene. You managed to finish your shopping without people noticing you-well, that’s a stretch. People did notice you. Most of them gave you an acknowledging nod followed by a small smile, some of them asked for a photo, and only a few just stared at you-which you didn’t mind.
You were paying for your things when Veronica appeared right beside you with a cup of coffee in hand. “What? Did the line at Starbucks reach the parking lot? What took you so long?”
“No, but a cute guy bought me a drink.” She beamed, taking a sip of her coffee.
You chuckled. “Good for you, Ronnie.”
“Y/N, girl, I swear- he has the most gorgeous eyes.” Ronnie carried on, the smile was stuck on her face. “Oh, he was so sweet.” She sighed happily.
You were happy for your friend since it’s not every day she meets someone that she’s completely enamoured with. However, she can express her liking for this guy while helping you load the grocery back in the cart. “Ronnie, that sounds great and all, but can you help me with the groceries so we can leave now?” You practically begged.
Veronica nodded and helped you load the groceries back in the cart, immediately speeding up the process. Taking too much time fixing your groceries at the till always gave you anxiety, especially when there’s a long queue behind you.
“Oh my god, Y/N,” Veronica gasped as you two were walking towards the parking lot.
“What? What happened? Are you okay?” You asked, completely baffled.
“I forgot to tell you that he has this amazing accent,” She sighed, making you roll your eyes.
“Ronnie, I swear to god I will fucking kill you.” You grumbled as Veronica opened the trunk of her car and started handing you the groceries for you to put in.
“I forgot to get his name though,” She mumbled. “which is a bummer because he was honestly a godsend.”
All you could do was roll your eyes as you were lost for words.
“Oh, quit rolling your eyes at me. Just because you have a boyfriend, doesn’t mean I don’t deserve to have one.” Ronnie pointed out.
“As if I actually have a boyfriend,” You countered, finishing up with the groceries.
“Whatever,” Veronica mumbled and shut off the trunk of her car. “I’ll just put this cart back and-”
“Hey, Veronica, was it?”
You and Veronica both turned your heads towards the person who just called Veronica’s name. As soon as she saw who the voice belonged to, it gave her extreme delight.
“Yes,” She beamed at the brunette with insanely blue eyes. “We talked earlier but I didn’t get your name.”
“Sorry ‘bout that. I had to take a phone call and when I got back, you weren’t there.” The guy explained. You took a good look at him. He seemed familiar but you couldn’t exactly put your finger on it.
“No, you’re okay! I had to go back to my friend here-which reminds me,” Veronica pulled you closer “This is my best friend, Y/N, Y/N, this is-”
“Harrison,” The guy smiled at you and extended his hand for you to shake. You politely shook his hand and after what seemed like an eternity, his eyes widened. “Wait, You’re Y/N L/N, right? From the Alchemist?”
You gave him a small nod, still trying to figure out who he is. “You’re also Tom’s girlfriend, I presume?” He asked a bit shyly.
“Great. I can’t believe I have to live with that label attached to my name now.” You thought to yourself.
You weren’t exactly sure if and how you were going to answer his question. Where are you with this stunt anyway? Are you and Tom supposed to be vocal about your relationship or were you two just blatant and left the people to figure out for themselves?
Harrison seemed to take notice of your hesitation in regard to the question. “It’s okay,” He says softly. “I know.”
“Pardon me?”
“I know the real deal about you and Tom.” He whispered.
There was a look of panic in Veronica’s eyes. “Yeah, that they’re totally in love.” She said defensively. You, however, seemed unbothered. You were also curious. You’ve seen Harrison before but you couldn’t point out where you’ve seen him.
“Harrison, you’re Tom’s best friend, yeah?” You asked him, starting to get a picture of how familiar he is.
Harrison nodded. “I wasn’t really expecting for our first meeting to be like this.” He chuckled.
“Eh, it’s alright,” You shrugged. “Much better for us to meet this way and in our own circumstance, considering your friend makes everything ten times more unbearable.”
Harrison let out a small laugh, “Tom’s not that bad once you get to know him.”
“Oh trust me, I know him plenty and so far, I’m not liking it.” You argued quite defensively. “Well, I’ll leave you two to chat for a bit as I put this cart back in its place.” You said as you gave Veronica a short look, in which she beamed at you in return.
You purposely took your time with returning the pushcart back in its rightful area. You fumbled with your phone for a bit, checking your Twitter only to find out that you’re still trending and people still have no idea what to feel about you and Tom’s relationship.
“Why did I pour my drink all over him again?” You asked yourself in frustration.
As you walked back towards Ronnie’s car, you saw your best friend and Harrison talk animatedly around each other with their smiles never leaving their faces.
The tad bitter side of you wondered if their mouths hurt from all that smiling, it also made you wonder if it’s even okay for a normal person to smile that much. However, the better part of you was glad that your best friend was happy. Veronica needed to be happy.
Soon after, they bid their goodbyes, not before exchanging phone numbers. Harrison gave you a friendly wave-goodbye before he walked towards his car.
As soon as you sat on the passenger seat of Ronnie’s car, you were already greeted by a huge smile on her face.
“Okay, don’t get mad-” Ronnie began.
You groaned. Knowing your best friend, you knew that she did something that will get you mad. “Ronnie, what did you do?”
“Okay, so I know that tonight was supposed to be our movie night but I just couldn’t help it! You know me through thick and thin, Y/N! You know how I do things impulsively around guys that I’m interested in. I’m like a mindless machine around them! I don’t even know why I’m talking this much when I usually have everything under control but Harrison-”
“Ronnie sweetie, breathe,” You said with your hands placed on top of her shoulders. “You are babbling and I need you to get straight to the point.”
Veronica took a deep breath before she said the words that almost made you want to smack the living daylights out of your friend. “I invited Harrison for dinner and I told him he can bring Tom too.”
“Could you stop?” Veronica threw the kitchen towel at you as you continued to glare at her. “You’re being childish, hon.”
“I am not being childish! You’re being childish.” You argued, crossing your arms.
Veronica just stared at you, her face seemingly screams that she’s absolutely done with you.
“Okay, so maybe I am being childish,” You admitted. “But you threw the towel at me so I’m not the only one here with an attitude.”
Veronica rolled her eyes as she finished setting up the table. You two were supposed to have pasta over dinner and have a Harry Potter movie marathon while eating junk food. Well, you two were still going to do it, except this time you’re joined by Harrison and Tom.
“This is the worst thing you’ve ever done to me,” You said dramatically.
“Y/N, hon, you’re exaggerating. I’m pretty sure this evening’s not going to be bad.” Ronnie commented.
Veronica left the kitchen and proceeded to the living room to check her makeup in the mirror that was propped over the wall. You followed her into the living room and threw yourself on the couch.
“Ronnie, why did you even invite them? Don’t you have classes tomorrow? Also, aren’t you supposed to be writing your paper for your social class?” You asked as you watched Ronnie retouch her makeup.
You were trying your best to cancel this dinner. You tried to reason with your best friend though because this is your house in the first place. However, she pulled the “This is my chance in getting myself a love life” card and she has moaned for years that she really wants to meet someone. You’d do anything for Veronica’s happiness. You’d also do anything to keep your best friend quiet about how she wants to date so bad.
“I already have my draft for that paper, just need to edit it,” Ronnie replied as she applied a coat of mascara. “Besides, I don’t have any classes on Mondays, you knew that.”
“Right,” you mumbled. “Still think this is a bad idea though. Things got so unbearable with Tom yesterday, I don’t think I’ll be able to handle another day with that guy ever again.”
After your whole lunch scene with Tom yesterday, it felt suffocating. It was unbearable. He was back with his usual snarky attitude and it drove you mad.
You learned one sure thing about your set-up though: He was only charming around other people, but if it’s just you two? He was a jerk.
Not even a minute later, the doorbell rang. You got up and checked who was at the door and sure enough, two familiar faces filled up the screen.
“Speaking of the devil,” You muttered before opening the door and was greeted by Harrison who gave you a hug.
“Thanks for having us over, Y/N” Harrison said as he pulled away from the short hug. He then proceeded to give Veronica one, and it was obvious that his intentions were solely focused on her anyway.
“Uh, yeah. No problem.” You said almost awkwardly as you gave Ronnie a look, who in turn mouthed a grateful ‘Thank you’.
You turned back to the door and saw that Tom standing there, a stoic look on his face. He looked like he came out of a photoshoot based on the clothes he was wearing: slouchy black button-ups and a pair of denim jeans. “Holland,” You greeted him as you opened the door a bit wider.
“Y/L/N,” He said as he gave you a once-over. “You look...” Tom seemed like he was really trying hard to think of a nice word to say.
“Don’t strain yourself,” You said as you rolled your eyes.
You were wearing an oversized band shirt -that was tied in a knot at the front- and paired it with high-waisted patterned pants. You and Ronnie shared a small argument on what you should wear for dinner.
She insisted that you should dress for your comfort while looking presentable and you argued that that is the outfit that gave you comfort.
You also argued that Ronnie and her guests should be glad that you weren’t wearing sweatpants like you anticipated before Ronnie invited people for dinner.
“Good because I wasn’t planning to,” Tom nagged, sending you into absolute overdrive.
As soon as he had his back turned on you, you resisted the urge of strangling him right then and there.
Unbeknownst to you and Tom, Veronica and Harrison caught the frustration painted on your face causing them to chuckle amongst themselves.
You and Tom had only known each other for two days at most, and yet you already had the most confusing relationship that existed in this world.
“If this carries throughout the evening, the world will know me not as Tom Holland’s girlfriend, but as the girl who killed him.” You muttered to Veronica as you passed by her.
“Relax, Y/N,” Veronica chuckled as she put a hand over your shoulder. “Dinner wouldn’t be that bad.”
Saying that dinner wouldn’t be that bad would be an understatement. Dinner was horrible.
Veronica and Harrison were pretty much occupied during the entire meal. They mostly had their attention to each other, which didn’t surprise you. Ronnie and Harrison were smitten for each other, it actually made you snort.
You and Tom, though, were a different case. You two were seated across each other and you two wouldn’t stop bickering.
It started when Tom accidentally kicked your foot underneath the table.
“Ouch!” You yelped. “Why did you kick me?!”
“It was an accident,” He said defensively.
“Psh, right” You scoffed. “Accident my ass.”
The “I accidentally kicked you underneath the table” carried on for the entire meal, with you and Tom exchanging kicks every few minutes.
You two also shared glares throughout the dinner.
“Why are you mad at me?!” Tom argued.
“Because you’re here!”
“Well, why did you invite me then?!”
“I didn’t! It was all her!” You hissed as you pointed at Veronica who was rather talking intimately with Harrison, and was also very much oblivious to the argument unveiling in front of her and Haz.
“God, why did I even think coming here was a good idea.” Tom moaned as he pinched the bridge of his nose, obviously annoyed.
It didn’t even end there, as you all moved from the kitchen and into the living room to start the Harry Potter marathon, you and Tom started bickering over a piece of furniture.
As Ronnie and Haz went to the loveseat sofa, you claimed the larger couch so you could lay down while watching the film and leaving Tom with nothing to sit on. You didn’t have much furniture considering you’re the only one who lives in this apartment.
“Scoot over, Y/N.” He said as he approached the couch you were laying on.
“You can sit at the ottoman.”
“And have nothing to rest my back on?”
“God, you are such a diva.” You grumbled. “Just sit on the floor then.” You replied as you pulled the faux fur blanket over you, keeping you warm and cozy.
“I don’t want to sit on the floor for hours,” Tom argued as he tried to pull you up from your position.
“Fine, I’ll get you the floor cushion.” You said in defeat.
“I want to sit on the couch, Y/N.”
“I am not moving, Holland. You can’t make me.” You said rather childishly.
“Fine,” Tom sighed and pulled the ottoman closer to the couch. He pulled up your feet and sat on the end of the couch as he propped his feet on top of the ottoman. He placed your feet on top of his lap, as you claimed you weren’t going to get up from your laying down position. “Then don’t move.” He dictated, leaving you to roll your eyes.
And as for the cherry on top, you had your manager nag you to post something about your evening. You didn’t even know that Veronica filmed a quick story for her Instagram until you received a message from Zoë saying: “A couple of fans that follow Ronnie saw her story. Share it on your Insta too, it adds foundation to our story.”
Ronnie’s Insta story showed the television playing Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s stone, and it panned to Harrison who was smiling softly at the camera and then, panned to you and Tom who were sharing the couch. You two were watching intently and from the looks of it, you looked like a very believable couple.
Your manager was right and that irked you. The devil works hard but Zoë works harder.

Hopefully she hasn’t startled him. He just … kind of looks like he doesn’t know what to do with her. Which is. Fair, she guesses. Most of the rest of the League don’t know what to do with her either. If Jin were here she’d be clinging to him, but he was needed for some mission or something. ( She still doesn’t quite understand everything. She knows their work is important, though. )
“ Oh, cool. Looks like fun. ” Riley doesn’t mean for her voice to sound so unenthusiastic, she really doesn’t. It’s just recently been a struggle to feel much of anything except BAD ABOUT HERSELF. It’s hard to … get excited, even though she genuinely does think his game looks like fun. And it makes her feel less like a nuisance that he moves the screen so she can see.
She shifts herself a bit, pushing up to lean more over the back of the couch. “ Huh ? Um … not really video games. I mean, I have – had – a few, like … Guitar Hero … but … mostly I play … played … sports. Like. Hockey. There are a couple games I used to … play with my friend Meg … but … ” Before she can stop herself, there are a few tears forming in her eyes. Dammit.
She quickly brings the sleeve of her sweatshirt up to wipe away the tears before they fall, giving a soft sniffle. “ … But I guess … we’re not really friends anymore. So. ” Awkward is definitely the right word for this ; she hates that when she can feel anything lately, it’s usually sad. She doesn’t want everyone here to think she’s some annoying crybaby kid. “ Can I … play with you ? I promise I won’t break your thing, I’ll be careful. ”
@variantia asked:
(( ... *pokes my lil head in cuz I can* )) Riley has been brought along to the League's hideout with Jin ; apparently he would have had to leave her at the apartment for a few days this time if he didn't. And of course, she knows he wouldn't be willing to do that. So she's seeking company that isn't him since he's busy at the moment, and Spinner ... seems like the least likely to tell her to ' get lost, kid '. He seems cool. She's approached from behind the sofa, propping herself up on the back of it and staring at the screen of his game. She's been here for a few minutes now. Finally, she decides it's time for her to speak up. " ... Whatcha playing ? "
He's focused on the screen of his switch, letting out a frustrated sound when his cart is passed, but grinning a bit to himself when he regains at least placing in the top five. He'd usually be playing something else, but he got stuck in a mission on Grant Theft Auto, and a break needed to be taken before he started to rage.
He hears her speak, catches a glimpse of her face in the reflection of the screen. Oh! It's the kid Jin brought along, a runaway or something like that. Spinner couldn't say he was surprised by the man's actions, but it didn't mean he thought this was really a place for someone so young.
However, the League was always willing to take in someone in need, and judging by Jin's brief story, she was definetly someone in need.
"Mario Kart." He's pauses the game, lifting it so she can get a better look at the screen. An awkward pause, because he was never the social butterfly to begin with, and he can't quite figure why she picked him to talk to.
"You ever play?"
#collaboratiiveanarchy#my heart does not rhyme the rhythm of my mind. ( RILEY. )#( VERSE. ) we are all misfits living in a world on fire.#(( I am actually CRYING please I love them !!#maybe he feels awkward but he is literally being so Gentle with her ???#aaaaaaaaaaaaaa ))#why put off till tomorrow what I can queue today ? bittersweet
pairing : lucas x reader
genre : highschool au
summary: he’s the captain of the basketball team, and you, his best friend. Your feelings for him has always been hidden, and so is his. Will you finally gather the courage to ask him out?
“Wong, this is the third time you’re late to my class this week.” Your teacher scolded as Lucas openly walked into class 15 minutes after it started.
“Sorry, the shower queue was horrible.” Lucas apologised nonchalantly, making his way over to you and sliding into the seat you saved him. Tossing his backpack on the floor, he proceeds to rumage for the materials he needed for the chemistry lecture.
“You don’t even look like you showered.” You frowned, subconsiously leaning away from him as the sweat glistened visibly against his skin. “How the hell did Mrs Johnson buy that?”
“I lost track of time practicing with the boys.” Lucas whispered, flashing his award winning smile in your direction. “Didn’t even hear the bell going off.”
“Again?” You frowned, watching as he ran his fingers through his hair to brush them back. “You’ve been practicing non-stop for these past few weeks. Finals are coming up.”
“As well as the competition.” Lucas explained, tapping his pen against the wooden table softly. “We can’t afford to lose to Danford this time round, it’ll cost us our reputation.”
“If anyone wants to talk, go outside. I’m having a lesson here.” Mrs Jackson scolded, glaring at the both of you with her brows raised.
“Sorry..” You cleared your throat, hanging your head down low as your cheeks turned red slowly. Smirking, Lucas tapped his pen against your head, pointing to the board. “Focus. We’ll talk about this later.”
--------------------
“Can you believe she did that? In front of the whole school?” Yuqi exclaimed, shaking her head in disbelief as both of you made your way towards your lockers. “I feel embarrassed for him.”
“It’s Hannah you’re talking about.” You chuckled, giving your opinions on what happened at the cafeteria when you were gone. Apparently Hannah, who so happened to be the school’s most popular girl had openly rejected a guy’s offer when he asked her to prom. “Is it even surprising if she did that?”
“You didn’t even see how much effort he put into his posters. There were donuts, Y/N. Who’d say no to that?”
You shrugged, reaching your locker and opening it to put your books away. You did feel bad for George, he wasn’t a very popular guy and to be publicly humiliated like that after mustering up the courage to ask someone he fancies out, you didn’t even want to think about it.
“Whatever, I’ll see you fifth period. What do you have now?” Yuqi asks, tilting her head to the side as she smiled at you.
“Math.” You sighed, slamming your locker shut and holding your books in your hands. “I just can’t seem to understand anything that’s going on in that class. You?”
“Free period.” Yuqi clicked her tongue, narrowing her eyes at you playfully as you rolled yours in frustration. “Just ask Lucas or something, he’s not the top in math for nothing.”
“Yeah, ask me.” A familiar voice called from behind. Turning around, you let out a smile at Lucas as he leaned against the lockers, folding his arms together.
“Hey.” Yuqi greeted, waving her hand in his direction to which Lucas returned. “I’m gonna go find Mark okay? See you.”
Humming in response, you watched as she wiggles her way through the heaps of students crowding the hallway. When she was out of your sight, you turned your attention back to Lucas who was typing away on his phone.
“Physics?” You asked casually, starting to make your way to your next class as Lucas followed behind. Tucking his phone back into his pocket, he shrugged his shoulders to readjust his bag, taking bigger steps until he caught up with you.
“Yeah, it’s the same way, might as well.” He breathed out, referring to both your classes being in the same hallway. “Plus, you need someone so you don’t feel lonely.”
Rolling your eyes playfully, you nudged him with your shoulder in which Lucas responded with a low chuckle.
“But seriously, if you’re struggling in math, I’m more than willing to help.” Lucas offered, walking backwards so that he could get a full view of your face. “My A’s aren’t there for nothing.”
“You’re just saying this so I can help you in chemistry right?” You raised your brow in amusement, his facial expressions giving him away completely. Huffing in defeat, Lucas blew his hair out of his face, going back to walking alongside you.
“Can’t you just let me gloat over my achievements for a bit?” Lucas whined, glaring at you as if you just took his favourite toy away from him. “Everyone has something they’re bad at. And to be fair, that’s the only subject I’m bad at.”
“Don’t you have practice?” You asked, remembering that his competition date was nearing. “You sure you have the time to tutor me?”
“I’m not tutoring you.. we’re just helping each other. Plus I know where my priorities are. My academics are just as important to me as sports.”
“Yeah, glad you know..” You joked, stopping in front of your class. “Then.. I’ll meet you at the study area after school?”
“Mmhm.” Lucas nodded, waving goodbye as he jogged off to his class that was a couple rooms away from yours. “See you.”
Smiling to yourself, you sighed softly to yourself, pushing the doors open as you prepared for your next class.
--------------------
“I can’t get it.” You groaned, burying your face in your hands as you got the wrong answer yet again. You’ve been trying to solve this stupid question for 15 minutes now, having gotten the wrong answer 3 times in a row.
“Come on you’re near, you missed two steps here.” Lucas comforted, pulling your hands down so you’ll look at your paper. “Just bring x over to the other side and multiply it. Redo it from there.”
“Finals is in two weeks.” You whispered, grabbing your eraser and rubbing your workings away. “I’m gonna fail at this rate.”
“Not on my watch.” Lucas clicked his tongue, going back to his own work. “You’ll be fine, trust me.”
“Wait till I tell you about organic chemistry.” You scoffed, grabbing your pencil to try the question again. “I’ll see what you say.”
“Don’t even remind me about it.” Lucas groaned, waving you off in attempts to tell you that you were distracting him.
Biting your lip in contemplation, you worked in silence, determined to solve the rest of the questions by yourself. After all, Lucas won’t be there when you take your paper.
“All done!” You smiled in victory, looking up at Lucas only to find him resting his head in his palms, staring at you. “Wanna check?”
“I was done hours ago.” Lucas joked, snatching the paper out of your hands as his eyes trailed over your workings. You ignored his comment, tapping your foot impatiently against the ground as you eyed his expressions.
“Not bad.” Lucas smiled, nodding as all your answers were correct. “See? You’re doing fine.”
“Finally.” You breathed out, throwing your head back against your chair as you slumped forward. “That took forever.”
“Now, my turn.” Lucas licked his lips, slamming his textbook loudly on the table causing you to jump in surprise. “I have to pass this class.”
“You’re such a genius.” Lucas complimented, writing down the last of his notes. “You sure we’re taking the same class? Why is it that I can’t seem to understand anything that comes out of Mrs Johnson’s mouth but you do?”
“My brain works better than yours?” You shrugged, folding your arms together as you finished explaining the entire chapter to him. “We’re done for today right?”
“Yeah,” Lucas agreed, closing his book and checking his phone for the time. “It’s getting late, we should go before school closes. I’m starving, wanna get dinner?”
“I can’t, I’m working today.” You frowned, raising your arms to stretch your muscles.
“I thought that’s tomorrow.” Lucas tilted his head to the side in confusion, putting his things away alongside you.
“Someone’s sick today, I’m taking over her shift for now.”
“I’ll drive you there.” Lucas offered, standing up and pushing his seat in as he swing his bag over his shoulders. You hummed in agreement, pulling your hair into a high ponytail as you followed him towards the carpark where his car was located at.
“Thanks.” You huffed as Lucas pulled up to the cafe that you were working at. Unbuckling your seatbelt, you hugged your bag to your frame and smiled at him in appreciation, proceeding to climb out of the vehicle.
“Grab something to eat in there if you’re hungry.” Lucas reminded, rolling the window down to look at you. Flashing him an ok sign, you jogged into the cafe that was bustling with people, squeezing your way through the crowd to get into the kitchen.
Lucas sat in his car,watching as you greeted your manager and wore your apron. Drumming his fingers against the steering wheel, he sighed to himself, knowing damn well that you were probably gonna go without dinner again. It was a busy day, well so it seems, and you definitely won’t have the time to eat.
Shaking his head and driving away from the cafe, Lucas made a mental note to himself to make sure you’ll eat something in front of him before your work next time.
--------------------
“I need your help.”
Looking up from your notes, you adjusted your glasses, tilting your head in confusion at the person standing in front of you. Ripping your headphones out of your ears, you scrunched your brows up, completely missing what she just said.
“Sorry?” You asked, getting her to repeat her question.
“I said I need your help.” Hannah rolled her eyes, taking a seat opposite you. You raised your brow, knowing where this conversation’s leading towards.
“No.” You rejected, shaking your head. “Absolutely not.”
“You didn’t even hear what I have to say.” Hannah scoffed, brushing her hair behind her back.
“You’ve only spoken to me about 4 times in the past 3 years and every single time it’s about Lucas, so no, I’m not hearing your story.”
“I need him to ask me to prom.” Hannah rolled her eyes, leaning forward and pushing your books away from you. “It’s in three weeks and he haven’t made a single move.”
“What move do you expect him to make?” You laugh in disbelief, shifting your books back to their original position. “What part of he’s not into you do you not understand?”
“I just need a date.” Hannah insisted, slamming her hand on your book to block your line of sight. Throwing your pen down in frustration, you glared at her darkly, feeling your patience running low.
“Find someone else, aren’t guys lining up to take you?” You rubbed your temples, cursing her mentally for wasting your precious free time.
“You don’t understand, he’s the only guy that’ll keep my image up there.” She quoted, smiling at you sweetly. Of course, that’s the only reason she’s taking interest in Lucas.
“I’m sorry to say this but you have zero image to keep up. If you’re only interested in him for that reason then I suggest you find yourself a different date. He’s made it clear multiple times he’s not interested.” You snapped, standing up and gathering your books. There was no way in hell you’ll let her use Lucas like that.
“It was nice talking to you.” You feigned a smile, pushing your chair in with so much force she felt the table shake slightly.
“Fine, I’ll find another way.” Hannah mumbled to herself, staring in your direction as you turned the corner and away from her.
“Hey I have something to tell you.” You greeted, tapping on Lucas’s shoulder as you approached him in the hallways. Nodding in acknowledgement as he closed his locker, he whipped around to face you, motioning for you to continue.
“Hannah looked for me.” You explained, tilting back on your heels as you watched his expressions switch from happiness to annoyance.
“Again?” He groaned, squeezing his eyes shut and throwing his head back. “What’d she ask this time?”
“She wants my help, she’s planning on getting you to ask her to prom.”
“I won’t even go if she asked.” Lucas scoffed, shaking his head at her absurd plan. “She can’t take a hint can she?”
“That was more of a clear no than a hint.” You scrunched your nose up, remembering when you overheard the phonecall where Lucas stated he wasn’t into her when she confessed. “I honestly think you need to tell her again, face to face this time round. It’ll get her mind out of the gutter.”
“I’ll deal with it if she comes again.” Lucas waved your advice off, tapping his foot against the ground as he looked around. “You have training today too right?”
“Mmhm, till 5.” You shrugged, not even bothering to ask if he had practice considering how he had his white tank slinged over his shoulder.
“Wait for me at the front door.” Lucas smiled, jogging off into the sports hall after noticing his teammates entering. “I won’t be late this time!” He called out as he disappeared into the hall.
“Won’t be late my ass.” You huffed, scrolling through your phone as you sat at the fountain in front of the school. Lucas’s practice ends at 5.30 on friday, giving you plenty of time to freshen up after your own dance training. It’s been a routine for both of you to hang out on friday nights, considering how you didnt’t have work and his parents couldn’t make it home to have dinner with him.
The minute hand on your watch reached 5.55 and Lucas was still nowhere to be found. Seriously considering to leave the school compound, you refreshed your instagram page, groaning when the same content popped out on the screen.
A pair of shoes appeared in your line of sight and you let out a sound of annoyance, looking up to glare at Lucas for making you wait this long for him. The words died in your throat before you could scream it out though, as your eyes locked with a pair of unfamiliar ones.
“Hey.” The boy asked, cocking his head to the side as he looked down at you. Lockinh your phone shut and setting it in your lap, you nodded hesitantly, not sure why he’d even come up to you.
You definitely know Taeyong, he was in your math class and was somewhat popular as well. Have he ever spoken to you though, not that much. You’re pretty sure the only things you guys have ever said to each other was thanks and welcome when papers were passed around class.
“uhh hi..?” You greeted awkwardly, not really knowing what else to say. “You wanna sit here or something?” You asked, pointing to the huge empty space beside you. Maybe he just thought it’ll be a good idea to say hi before he sat down?
“I mean since you offered,” He shrugged, plooping himself down beside you, readjusting his bag to the front. You just smiled politely, looking down at your phone again as you opened your chat with Yuqi.
“Why’re you still here? It’s a friday.” Taeyong asked, trying to start a conversation. He leaned back against the concrete platform, turning his head to look at you.
“Oh I had dance practice.” You explained, giving him your full attention as you thought it’ll be rude if you took more interest in your device than him. “I’m waiting for a friend.”
“Lucas?” Taeyong blurted casually, bobbing his head at his own question. You blinked multiple times before nodding hesitantly, surprised but not really. Everyone knows that the both of you were really good friends.
“You sure you guys are just friends though?” Taeyong pried, raising his brow at you. You looked to the side, nodding your head as a silent yes, not knowing why he was suddenly interested in your friendships.
“Okay, I’ll see you around.” Taeyong stood up after that short conversation, sending a wink your way before strudding out of the school gate. You looked out after him, your brows scrunched up in confusion by that short encounter with him.
“What’re you looking at?” Lucas chuckled, snapping his fingers in front of your face to snap you back into reality. He had dashed out of the building the moment he finished showering, not even bothering to dry his hair off as he ran out, only to find you eyeing the school gate like a lost child.
“Next time, I’m leaving.” You huffed, glaring at Lucas as he lifts his hands up in surrender. Adjusting your bag over your shoulders, you walked out with him, proceeding to the foodcourt that was a couple minutes away from school.
“Sorry, coach had things to tell us,” He apologised, brushing his fingers through his hair in an attempt to dry it. “What were you looking at?”
“Nothing,” You replied, wiping your face as you felt the water droplets splash onto you. “Taeyong came up to talk to me.”
“Taeyong?” Lucas frowned, stopping in his tracks as he repeated the name you just told him. “The one on the track and field team?”
“I think so?” You confirmed, walking backwards so that you could face Lucas. “All I know is he’s in the same math class as me.”
“Whatever, he was probably just bored. Quick I’m starving, I waited 40 minutes you know?” You groaned, clutching your stomach with one hand as you used your other to grab Lucas’s wrist, pulling him forward.
--------------------
For the next few days, you find yourself running in Taeyong more often than you usually do. Apart from math, you find yourself passing by him more often in the hallways, and you even ran into him once near your dance studio when practice ended. It was either a coincidence, or you didn’t notice him as much before he talked to you.
You brushed it away though, not wanting to seem self-obsessed with yourself. He was just being friendly.
“Mark asked me to prom yesterday. We’re official.” Yuqi confessed during lunch, giggling to herself like a 5 year old. Your eyes widened in surprise, your smile matching hers as you watched her cheeks flush red as she broke the news to you.
“And you only told me now?” You whispered, scooping another spoonful of soup into your mouth. “I’m so happy for you.”
“I can’t believe he finally asked me to be his girlfriend, I’ve been waiting for a month!” She squealed, resting her face between her palms to hide her rosy cheeks. “Best day of my life.”
“Does that mean we’re not going together?” You sighed jokingly, picking at your food that all of a sudden looked unappetising.
“We can all go as a group though?” Yuqi suggested, feeling bad for you. It’s not like it’s a big deal, not having a date for prom, you just felt..left out. “We can ask more people, pitch in for a ride or something.”
You shrugged, not rejecting the idea but not being overly keen on it either. It’ll definitely be fun if you went in a big group, but some or most of your close friends were attached. Plus, you’re not that big a social butterfly.
“There’s still time, I’m sure someone will ask you.” Yuqi assured, patting your hand with hers as she wiggled her brows at you. “I mean, who wouldn’t? You’re such a catch.”
Chuckling at Yuqi’s statement, you went back to your plate, changing the topic to something else as you finished up the rest of your meal.
Bowing slightly at your teacher as you left your class, you let out a silent yawn as you walked out of the room, glad that the school day was finally over. For some reason, today dragged on for what seemed like forever.
“Great I still have to go to work..” You sighed, rubbing your eyes due to how tired you were. Considering how you had a couple of hours before your shift, you decided it’ll be a good idea to pay a visit to the library to study and hopefully, get a quick nap in.
“Wait up.” A voice called out behind you and you turned around to face Taeyong, speaking to him for the first time since that day.
“Are you free tonight?” He asked straightforwardly, taking you by complete surprise. You would have never expected such a question from someone like him.
“uhh not really I have something on.” You rejected, trying to sound polite. It’s not that you were lying or anything, you really had things to do tonight.
“If that’s the case..” Taeyong nodded, pursing his lips seemingly deep in thought. “I guess I’ll ask you another day?”
“What?” You asked, not getting why he was asking you out all of a sudden. “Why’re you talking to me all of a sudden?”
“I think you’re pretty cute.” He shrugged nonchanantly, shoving his hands into his pockets.
“Oh thanks..but we don’t really know each other that well and um..” You scratched your head, not knowing how to react. You’ve zero experience with situations like this, the only compliments you’ve ever heard was from your family and a few close friends and it was usually on your outfit or grades. Having a boy call you cute, now that was something new.
“Which is why I’m asking you out..?” Taehyung tilted his head to the side, stating the obvious. “I want to get to know you better.”
“Right..” You nodded hesitantly, your hands gripping the straps of your bag tightly. How were you gonna get out of this without making things more awkward?
As if someone heard your prayer, your phone started ringing in your pocket, saving you from the situation. Giving Taeyong a tight smile, you fished for your phone, pulling it out to see who’s calling.
“Sorry..” You whispered, turning your back against him as you slide answer.
“Mom?” You greeted, pressing your phone against your ear. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing.. I just wanted to know if you’ll be having dinner tonight?” She coughed slightly and you frowned at how frail her voice sounded.
“I have work today, I can have dinner myself.” You assured her, biting your lip worridly. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah I’m fine. I’ll cook a few dishes okay? It’ll be in the fridge.” She offered, and you could hear her smile from the other line.
“Okay, don’t go to work if you’re not feeling well.” You told her out of concern, your eyes widening when you see a familiar figure walking towards you. Glancing behind to find Taeyong still staring at you, you internally panicked, clenching your hands into fists.
“I’m fine don’t worry, see you tonight.”
“See you mom, bye.” Ending the call quickly, you brushed your hair out of your face, cursing your entire existence as Lucas approached you.
“Hey.. what’s going on?” Lucas frowned, his smile immediately fading from his face when he noticed Taeyong was with you.
“Nothing. we were just talking.” You denied, looking up at Lucas. “Aren’t you late to practice?”
“I don’t have practice today, I thought you knew that.” Lucas shook his head, eyeing Taeyong up and down. “It’s Tuesday.”
“Yeah..” You breathed out, pretending to check the time to act like you’re late for whatever you had to do. “I actually have to go.”
“I’ll go with you.” Lucas offered, sending you a warm smile, the one that made your heart do flips. “Library right?”
You nodded hesitantly, glancing back at Taeyong to see him with a tight expression. Do you just leave him behind?
“Go ahead, I’ll text you.” Taeyong nodded, waving goodbye as he started walking off in the other direction.
“Come on,” Lucas urged, rolling his eyes as he grabbed your wrists, dragging you off to the other block. Not bothering to protest, you let him lead the way to wherever he was dragging you to, even though the library was the way Taeyong left.
“You know the library’s there right?” You raised your brow when he arrived at the fitness corner, finally letting go of you as he dropped his bag to the ground.
“I would have went there with you but he walked in that direction.” Lucas scoffed, sitting cross-legged on the soft ground. You followed suit, placing your bag next to a pole, settling down opposite him.
“What’d he say this time?” Lucas cocked his head to the side, jutting his chin forward. “Let me guess, he asked you out?”
Your expression gave you away immediately and a smirk broke out on Lucas’s face as he shook his head from side to side.
“Why, is it that surprising?” You asked, placing your hands on the ground and leaning into them. You didn’t understand why he was acting the way he was.
“No, it’s just that I didn’t realise he’d ask someone like you.” Lucas reasoned, leaning his head against the pole.
“Excuse me?” You hissed, folding your arms across your chest offended. “I didn’t come here to get attacked.”
“That’s not what I meant,” His eyes widened when he realised you took it the wrong way. “You’re too good for him.”
You remained silent at his sudden compliment, biting your lip to fight the smile from breaking out on your face. You coughed dryly, shifting forward slightly as Lucas eyed your actions lazily.
“That’s better.” You nodded, trying to act as if his words didn’t have an effect on you. “What’re we doing here?”
“I don’t know, get a breath of fresh air.” Lucas shrugged, looking around the compound. “Or we could go eat? You wouldn’t after work anyways.”
“Is food the only thing on your mind?” You laughed, bringing your knees to your chest. “I have food tonight, my mom cooked.”
“She’s not taking the night shift today?” Lucas closed his eyes, getting comfortable in his position.
“She is, she just said she left something in the fridge.” You sniffed, rubbing your nose from the cold. It was a chilly day today.
Humming in response, Lucas slowly fell asleep, his head jerking forward occasionally. You smiled softly to yourself, resting your head between your knees as you looked over his features, how his brows creased together in his sleep, his lips slightly parted.
You were hopelessly in love with your best friend and he doesn’t know it at all. It’s been your little secret for 2 years now.
You realised you liked Lucas when he introduced his first girlfriend to you. At first you just shrugged it off, thinking that the weird feeling you got at the pit of your stomach was just temporary, that you were just not used to the idea of your best friend getting close with someone that wasn’t you. I mean having being friends for such a long time, you were bound to have those feelings.
You remembered beating yourself up countless times over that issue, feeling like such a selfish person. Lucas wasn’t yours in any way shape or form and he was free to do whatever he wants with his life. So why were you getting so worked up everytime you see his arms around her? She was such a sweet girl but you just didn’t understand why you couldn’t bring yourself to like her.
The news of them breaking up a year later was the best piece of news you’ve ever heard in your entire life, and you couldn’t wipe the smile off your face that whole day.
And that was when it hit you.
You like Lucas, you had feelings for him. And ever since, those feelings had just been snowballing into something bigger.
--------------------
“I need help.” Lucas sighed, going in for a baseline dunk. Running back to catch the ball, he bounced it a few more times before going for another shoot.
“What?” Hendery breathed heavily, grabbing his bottle and downing half of its content. “What help does Lucas Wong need?”
“I’m asking someone to prom.” Lucas admitted, scratching his head sheepishly as Hendery started choking on his water. Throwing the ball in their direction, Lucas plopped himself down on the floor next to them, slamming his back against the ground.
“Why the hell do you need our help?” Ten asks, hitting Lucas’s stomach. “If anything, it should be the other way round. And didn’t you went 2 years ago?”
“Yeah but that’s different, Lia was my girlfriend, the person I want to ask isn’t.” Lucas explained, tucking one arm behind his head as he stared at the ceiling.
“Who is it? Hannah?” Mark teased, everyone laughing alongside him.
“It’s Y/N, he told me the other day.” Kun smirked, tossing Lucas his bottle.
“I don’t think it’ll be hard asking her though, I’m positive she’ll say yes.” Ten shrugged, looking at his teammate. “It’ll be awkward if she says no, she won’t do that.”
“But what if she says yes for that exact reason? Only because she doesn’t want to ruin our friendship?” Lucas sighs, peeking his head up to look at Ten. “Plus, there’s competition now.”
“Someone’s into her?” Mark asks, genuinely interested. “Who?”
“Taeyong.” Lucas groaned, laying his head back down. “He asked her out yesterday.”
“Yeah, you need our help.” Hendery chuckled, leaning against the bleachers. “He’s a tough one.”
“Exactly.” Lucas agreed, sitting back up to pat Hendery on the back. “If this works, I’ll ask her out as well.”
“What made you change your mind? You guys have been friends for years, why now?”
“Puberty probably.” Ten teased, earning himself a smack to the head.
“You little shit..” Lucas cursed, cracking his knuckles. Seeing Ten lift his hand up in surrender, Lucas backed down, shrugging his shoulders as he thought about his answer.
“Hopefully it works..” Lucas mumbled the last part to himself, licking his lips anxiously.
--------------------
Wiping your hands off, you untied the straps of your apron, hanging it up in the kitchen hanger. Rumaging through the closet, you grabbed your bag, shoving all your things back into it.
“If there’s nothing else I’ll leave first.” You bowed to your manager, reaching behind your hair to tighten your pony. She nodded, shooting you a smile and bid you goodbye before going back to counting the income for the day. Pushing the doors open, you shuddered slightly from the cold air, rubbing your arms together to warm yourself up.
Taking a step forward to make your way home, you stopped abruptly when a hand extended in front of you, jacket in it. You whipped your head around, eyes locking with that of Taeyong’s.
“You look cold.” He offered, pushing his outerwear in your direction.
“How’d you know I work here?” You questioned, completely disregarding his offer. “Are you following me?” You narrowed your eyes at him, taking a step back.
“I saw you when I passed by a few months ago.” He shrugged, his arm dropping back down to his side. “I swear it was a coincidence. I’m not a stalker.”
Huffing impatiently, you turned around, continuing your way back home. Footsteps could be heard behind you and you rolled your eyes as Taeyong was hot on your heels.
“Hey don’t ignore me.” He breathed out, poking at your shoulders. “I just wanna be friends.”
“We are friends.” You nodded, keeping your eyes straight on the road ahead.
“Well then I want to be more than that.” Taeyong announced, causing you to stop in your tracks. Are confessions usually this straightforward?
“We don’t even know each other.” You sighed, shaking your head slightly. “How are you possibly into me?” You were never a big believer of the whole love at first sight thing.
“You didn’t give us the chance to talk.” He defended, tugging at his roots. “I’m trying.”
“Look, I know you’re a nice guy.” You sniffed, licking your lips due to how dry they were. “I’m more than willing to be friends with you but I’m sorry, I’m interested in someone else.”
You played with your sleeves nervously, watching silently as Taeyong’s expressions fell. This was the first time you’ve been confessed to and the first time you’re rejecting someone. All of a sudden, you felt like Hannah.
Well, minus a huge crowd.
Taeyong nodded after a few moments, pursing his lips. You bit your lip, hating the awkwardness that came with this. Stepping forward, you hesitantly lifted your hand up to pat his forearm, smiling softly at him.
“We can still be friends.” You suggested, tilting your head to the side. He’s actually a really nice guy based on what you’ve observed.
“Yeah of course, that’ll be nice.” He smiled back, taking up your offer. “I was planning to send you back home or something you know?” Taeyong chuckled, stuffing his hands into his pockets.
Laughing awkwardly alongside him, you nodded, looking at the streets ahead. “It’s late, you should go. See you in school tomorrow.”
“Yeah see you. Be safe.” Taeyong feigned a smile but his eyes however, gave his emotions away completely. You watched as he turned to leave, walking back up the small slope and disappearing around the corner of the cafe.
“Great..” You sighed to yourself, trudging back home. You couldn’t help but feel like such an asshole.
--------------------
“You look like you’re just about to murder someone. What did your noodles ever do to you?” Kun chuckled, nudging Lucas’s shoulder. He was picking aggresively at his food and if he kept it up, Kun was sure he might even break the plate.
“He just can’t stop staring at her can he?” Lucas growled, his eyes burning into Taeyong’s frame. You were sitting at your table with Yuqi, as usual, just that someone else had his eyes trained on you.
“You know, I’ve never struck you as the jealous type.” Kun smirked, going back to his lunch. “Definitely an eye opener.”
“I’m not jealous.” Lucas rolled his eyes, dropping his fork down. “He’s just up to no good.”
“What makes you say that?” Kun prompted, his mouth full of food. “You’re not the only one that’s allowed to like her.”
“My point is, Taeyong would never in his entire life take interest in someone like Y/N. Come on, just look at the difference between her and the girls he associate himself with.”
“Well then make a move quickly.” Kun shrugged, leaning back against his seat. “Besides, now that Mark’s with Yuqi, you might be able to get extra help.”
Lucas’s eyes widened when realisation struck him. If he could get Yuqi on his side..things will be a whole lot easier. Why didn’t he think about this before?
“You’re a genius.” Lucas breathed out, slapping Kun on the back in appreciation.
“He what?” Yuqi frowned, not believing the words she just heard.
“He said he wanted to be more than friends.” You whispered back, looking around to make sure no one was listening to your conversation.
“And you didn’t agree?” Yuqi asked a little too loud and you imeediately raised your finger to your lip, shushing her.
“Sorry.” She whispered, bringing her volume down again. “Y/N, you’re telling me Lee Taeyong confessed and you rejected him? Are you crazy?”
“What?” You tilted your head at her, folding your arms together. “It’s not like I’m interested in him or anything.”
“Yeah, but you didn’t even give him a chance. He might have even ask you to prom.”
“It’s not that big of a deal.” You shrugged, not getting why she had such a huge reaction over the situation. Worse comes to worse, you’ll just go alone. It works out.
“It’s about Lucas isn’t it?” Yuqi hissed, narrowing her eyes at you. “You rejected Taeyong for Lucas.”
You remained silent, confirming Yuqi’s assumptions. Sighing, Yuqi leaned her face against her palm, looking at you deeply. “Prom is in two weeks. Have he spoken anything about it to you?”
Pursing your lips, you shook your head no hesitantly. That topic had never come up in any conversation between you two.
“Maybe you should ask him.” Yuqi suggested, jutting her chin forward. You stared at her as if she was joking, but her face showed that she was being completely serious.
“It doesn’t have to be one on one, just ask if he’s interested to go in a group or something, with Mark and I. This might be our last prom, just go for it.”
“I’ll consider.” You nodded, smiling at her as your thoughts ran wild in your head.
“You’re coming today right?” Lucas asked the second he walked up to you, slamming himself against the empty lockers beside yours. You hummed in response, taking a sip of water as you side eyed him.
“Will I not go?” You joked, smiling to yourself as you gathered your books. “It’s your first game, I’m pretty sure the entire school population will be there.”
“You’re the best.” Lucas grinned, his eyes turning into cresents as he beamed down at you. You looked down immediately, not daring to look him straight in the eyes when he was looking so damn happy. “How was your paper?”
“It’s okay I guess..” You shrugged, sighing as you closed your locker. “I ran out of time, didn’t manage to solve the last two.”
“That’s okay. As long as you’re sure of the rest you’ll be fine.” Lucas nodded, kicking your shoe with his own gently. It was your math final today, and you could finally get a breather from all the stress you’ve been giving yourself the past week. It wasn’t hard, it was definitely managable, but you didn’t want to be too confident in yourself.
“You’re done with yours right?”
“Mmhm. And thanks to you, I think I’ll do well.” Lucas snapped his fingers in front of you, referring to the countless chemistry lessons you’ve painfully forced him to.
The ringing of the bell had Lucas puckering his lips up, sighing as he turned to you. “That’s your cue.”
“Hey.. can I talk to you after your game, just for a short while?” You blurted out, tapping your fingers against your folder nervously. Yuqi was right. You can’t possibly wait for him to make the first move, it’s the 21st century.
“Yeah sure.” Lucas nodded, not thinking much of it. Not like there was anything for him to think about, he had his whole mind focused on the competition tonight.
“See you.” You nodded, walking away quickly before he had the chance to say bye. Thinking that you were probably just rushing to get to class, Lucas headed in the other direction towards the sports hall, meeting his team to prepare for the big event later on. He definitely felt the pressure, being the captain of the basketball team and all. Besides, they had a reputation to maintain and Lucas isn’t planning to ruin that anytime soon.
--------------------
Sitting on the bleachers, you bit your lip nervously, watching as the game advances. They were currently in their second quarter, the opposing team a couple points ahead of the guys. You leaned forward, eyes never leaving Lucas as he ran across the court, motioning for Hendery to pass him the ball.
“I wonder if any of them have a date yet.” You heard one of the girls beside you whisper. You glanced to your side, noticing that it was non other than Hannah and her friends. Ignoring the sounds of awe that came out of their mouths every single time the boys did something swoon-worthy, you shifted closer to Yuqi, their screams getting on your nerves.
“Will Mark say yes if I asked? We’re in fourth period together, I’m sure if I-”
“Not a chance.” Yuqi interrupted, looking straight ahead as she smacked that thought out of that girl’s head. “He’s already going with someone.”
You straightened yourself up, your hands slyly making their way over to hers, patting lightly to get her to calm down.
“Honey, he’s going with me.” Yuqi retorted, leaning behind to get a good glimpse of the girl. She remained silent, eyeing your best friend up and down before huffing softly, flipping her hair behind her back before returning to watch the game.
“Girl thought she had a chance.” Yuqi scoffed, rolling her eyes. You let out a laugh of amusement at her act of jealousy, seeing Yuqi act this way for the first time was definitely an eye opener.
“Hannah, you’re making your move tonight?”
Your ears immediately perk up at that question. Trying to play it off, you tucked your hair behind your ear, pretending to be engrossed in the game when in all honesty, you were trying to get information out of that conversation. It’s not like you were eavesdropping or anything, they’re just speaking a little too loud.. right?
“You bet, I have it all planned out.” You balled your hands into fists, everything clicking in your head. She’s planning to ask Lucas tonight as well.
“Good for you,” Her friend sighed, resting her face in her palms as she stared at your best friend play dreamily. “He looks so good in that jersey.”
“Look, I’ll tell you about it somewhere else, gotta keep it a surprise am I right?”
You accidentally looked over in her direction, locking eyes with her. She cocked her head to the side, smirking at you.
Great, she knew you were listening the whole time. How sneaky.
Forcing yourself to focus on the game for now, you scrunched your brows up together throughout, wanting nothing more than to rush behind the court the moment it ended.
They ended up winning the third and fourth quarter, not that you were surprised. They have been training day and night for the inter-games this year, and their hard work definitely showed.
Tapping your foot against the ground as you waited for the crowd to disperse, you scanned your eyes over the area for any signs of Hannah. She left quick, you were busy talking to Yuqi when it happened and now she’s gone.
What if she’s already with Lucas? It’s not like you’ve anything to be worried about, he’ll most probably say no eitherways. No matter what, you just couldn’t help but feel anxious.
“If you’re that worried let’s go find them.” Yuqi offered, noticing how distressed you looked. “They should be having a debrief.”
Nodding in agreement, you brushed your hands on your jeans before standing up quickly, following Yuqi down the bleachers and into the preparation rooms.
“Oh..” You uttered, realising the group of boys emerging from the hallways before the both of you could even enter. Yuqi smiled at you, pointing at Mark before making her way over to him.
“Hi,” Ten waved, greeting you with a grin. You waved back at them, congratulating them on their win. You’re friends with all of them, considering your association with Lucas.
“Where’s Lucas?” You asked casually, realising that he was not with them. Did he leave already?
“He’s outside.” Hendery pointed towards the foyer, filling you in on Lucas’s position. “He’s with Hannah, she-”
Kun mentally facepalmed himself as he kicked Hendery’s heel, effectively shutting him up. Noticing your change of expression, Kun beamed at you brightly, clearing his throat trying to find the right words to get you to go find Lucas.
“You should go, I think he’s waiting for you.” He encouraged, nodding in the direction of the main entrance. You smiled back, thanking him before making your way out, glancing back slightly to see all of their eyes on your frame.
Pushing the doors open, you sighed in relief as you saw him standing there alone, scrolling through his phone. The sound of your footsteps caused him to whip his head in your direction, and there it was, that smile that you adored so much.
“You did great.” You complimented, folding your hands behind your back as you congratulated him on his first win.
“Thanks,” Lucas breathed out, swiping the back of his head across his forehead. “Where’re the rest? They didn’t follow you out?”
“Oh they’re still inside..” You explained, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear. “Did Hannah..look for you just now?”
“How’d you know?” Lucas tilts his head in confusion, his eyes boring into yours.
“Did you say yes?” You asked straightforwardly, catching Lucas by surprise. He blinked a few times, trying to wrap his mind around your question.
“No, of course not. Why would I say yes?” Lucas let out a laugh, shaking his head no. You nodded, seemingly calm and unbothered on the inside but little did he know that you were actually freaking out.
“Anyways, what did you want to talk to me about?” He asks, changing the topic.
It was now or never.
“Look, I don’t know if you’re already going with someone and I know you just got asked but, do you wanna go together? Prom, I mean.”
Those words tumbled out of your mouth before you had the chance to take them back. Lucas’s eyes widened in surprise as he stared at you, and all of a sudden you feel your palms getting clammy, your heart started beating faster. His silence was killing you.
“You mean, one on one?” He mumbled, the size of his eyes never getting smaller.
“You don’t have to if you don’t want to.” You rubbed the back of your neck, feeling anxiety bubble in the pit of your stomach. Now, you finally got a taste of what Taeyong felt when he confessed to you the other day. “We could go as a group, with Yuqi and Mark or even the guys. What’d say?”
--------------------
“So, I guess it’s just the three of us that’s missing a date now?” Ten quips, slapping the arms of Kun and Hendery.
“Considering how long this is taking,” Mark sighs, resting his arm on Yuqi’s shoulder. “I bet they’re making out right now.”
“There’s cameras.” Ten snort, scrunching his face up in disgust. “Are you speaking from experience?”
“He’s back.” Yuqi whispered, tapping Mark’s thigh as she stood up, running down the bleachers.
“Wait where’s Y/N?” Kun frown, jogging over to his teammate. “Did she leave?”
“I think I screwed up..” Lucas bit his lip, sighing as he tugged at his hair. “I told her that I’m going with someone else.”
“What the hell is wrong with you?!” Yuqi scolded, slapping Lucas’s arm as she demanded for an explanation. “Aren’t you planning on bringing her?”
“That’s just it! I should be the one asking her, I had everything planned out and I didn’t expect her to.. wait,” Lucas stops, narrowing his eyes at the 5 of them. “You guys knew all along didn’t you?”
“Only four days ago.” Mark shrugs, pointing at his girlfriend. “Yuqi told me when you asked us to help.”
“What did she say after you told her that?” Yuqi pressed on, trying to get every little information out. “You didn’t even try following her?”
“I did, she said there was no need for it and she’ll see me tomorrow.” Lucas explained, scratching his head nervously as Yuqi glared at him like he owed her his life.
“You’re such an idiot.” Yuqi huffed, placing her hands on her hips as she walked circles on the spot. “What now?”
“I’m still planning on surprising her, there’s no doubt about that.” Lucas confirmed, licking his lips. “Plus, now that I know she likes me back, I’m not so nervous about it anymore.”
“Yeah, you threw her the job of being nervous.” Yuqi scoffed, rolling her eyes at him. Lucas lifted his hands up in surrender, knowing how badly he had messed things up.
“You could have just said yes.” Kun groaned, walking back to the bleachers to pick up his duffel bag. “Things would have been a whole lot easier, you would have got yourself a girlfriend tonight.”
“Well I’m sorry I blanked out!” Lucas retorted back defensively. “Nothing was processing okay?”
“Taeyong confessed to her by the way,” Yuqi added, deciding to throw everything into the conversation. “Just thought it’ll be good for you to know.”
“That quick?” Lucas frowned. “He doesn’t even know her that well.”
“She rejected because there’s someone else in her heart.” Yuqi smiled, tiptoeing forward and narrowing her eyes at Lucas. “And that someone rejected her today.”
“Ok, I get it.” Lucas groaned, realising that Yuqi was trying to make him feel bad. “I’ll make it up, I promise.”
“Hell, you better make this a good one. She better be the happiest girl alive after this.” She folded her arms, raising a brow at Lucas in a challenging way.
“Oh, she definitely will be.” Lucas smirked, shoving his hands into his pockets as he accepted the challenge.
Needless to say, he can’t wait to make you his.
--------------------
Everything seemed to be in such low energy today. In all honesty, it was just you feeling this way but you didn’t really care. You’re just glad that you haven’t ran into Lucas today, and he didn’t come up to talk to you like he usually did. It was painful and relieving at the same time.
“Did you get ran over by a bus?” Yuqi’s voice rang in your ear as she nudged your shoulder, leaning closer to look at your face. You gave her a small smile, pushing her away playfully before returning to your homework.
“I heard about it, sorry.” You shook your head at her, pursing your lips tightly. There was no need for her to apologise, it wasn’t her fault. She was merely trying to help.
“Still friends though?” Yuqi asks, looking down at her book as she tapped her foot against the ground furiously. She had to be careful around you due to how horrible her lying skills were, one look and you’ll see through her immediately.
“I guess so.. I haven’t seen him the whole of today.” You shrugged, trying to play it off as nothing. You pushed away the thought of Lucas avoiding you, finding yourself stupid to think that. He wouldn’t do that to you.
“Anyways, do you wanna hang out Saturday? Finals will be over by then and we can go relax, you know, get your mind off everything.”
“Sure, I have nothing on.” You smiled, taking up Yuqi’s offer. Quite frankly, you needed it.
“Great!” She clapped her hands together, nodding in triumph as she picked her pen back up to continue with her work, the smile never leaving her face.
“I think we should just stick to my plan.” Lucas suggests for the third time, eyeing you secretly from across the cafeteria. “Why can’t I talk to her? She’ll just feel worse.”
“It’s just two days, two days Lucas.” Ten emphasised, showing the digits with his fingers. “If you talk to her now, she’ll feel even worse, trust me.”
Lucas sighed, mumbling incoherent words to himself as he took a huge bite of his sandwich. You looked so sad, a smile never making its way onto your lips the whole time Lucas was watching you. You didn’t even turn your head in his direction.
How badly had he messed up?
--------------------
“Where is she?” You uttered to yourself, glancing at your watch. Yuqi had asked you to meet her at the park at 6.30, which was weird considering how you guys never make plans at night. Your watch now however, read 6.53.
Rolling your eyes, you walked towards the nearby bench, getting tired of standing. Next time, you don’t want to be the early one again.
Scrolling through your contacts for Yuqi’s number, you pressed the call button, pressing the device to your ear. Taking in a deep breath, you closed your eyes, relieved to finally get a breath of fresh air after finals.
Of course, you got sent straight to voicemail. Huffing in annoyance, you dropped your phone in your lap, looking at the scenery ahead instead. The lake was beautiful, the warm orange from the sunset reflecting into the waters.
Looking around aimlessly, you tapped your foot against the ground, trying to search for any signs of your best friend arriving. Yuqi’s usually always on time and if she’s gonna be late, she’ll have called you by now.
And although you did manage to find your best friend, it wasn’t Yuqi.
Your eyes widened to the size of saucers when you saw Lucas standing near the playground, looking around frantically. You froze for a second, not knowing what to do. What was he doing here?
Your heart started racing rapidly when his eyes locked with yours. Coming back to your senses, you immediately rip your eyes away from him, standing up quickly. He definitely saw you.
Grabbing your bag, you started walking away quickly, not wanting to talk to him just yet. You didn’t want to make things more awkward than it already was.
“Y/N, wait!” He called from behind, his footsteps loud against the ground. You squeezed your eyes shut, widening your steps as you pretended that you didn’t hear anything. But considering how Lucas was literally a head taller than you, it didn’t talk long before he eventually caught up with you.
“Hey..” He grabbed your wrist from behind, standing in front of you so that you couldn’t walk away again. “You saw me, why’re you avoiding me?”
“I’m not.” You lied, looking down at your feet. “I’m waiting for Yuqi.”
“You know how your ears turn red when you lie?” Lucas asked in amsement, smiling down at you. “They’re doing their thing now.”
You remained silent, bringing your hands up to rub at your ears. Great, you couldn’t even deny it now.
“Stop running away from me,” Lucas whispered, taking a step towards you. “It sucks, not talking to you.”
“I was busy with exams,” You nodded, coming up with an excuse that could justify your actions. “I didn’t have time.”
“Really? Or are you just upset because I said that I’m going to prom with someone else?”
“N-no.” You stuttered, finally lifting your head up to look at him. “I told you it was fine. Why would I be upset about it?”
“Because I’ll be with her the whole night. Because I’ll dance with her, laugh with her, have fun with her. Because she’s not you.”
You gulped, breaking eye contact with Lucas as he spoke your heart out for you. When did he figure out your feelings for him? You swore you had kept it subtle.
“Y/N,” Lucas whispered seriously, grabbing your shaking hands in his as he interlaced your fingers together. “You like me don’t you?”
Your heart was just about to beat out of your chest at this point. Your breathing was unsteady as you looked at your hand linked with his. Denying it was impossible at the point.
“Yeah,” You admitted, your head hanging low since you didn’t dare to look at him. “I like you, okay? I have for 2 years now, and I didn’t want my feelings to ruin our friendship especially since.. you were with Lia at that point in time. I just didn’t know how to tell you and I’m scared that-”
Lucas pulls you towards him, grabbing your face in his hands as he leaned down to press his lips against yours, stopping you from rambling on any further. You let out a sound of surprise, your eyes staring at Lucas’s closed ones. Blinking, you let your eyes flutter shut, your hands moving up to grip his sleeves as you kissed him back.
Feeling you reciprocate, Lucas smiled into the kiss, his hand travelling down to your waist to tug you closer, if even possible. You felt your head spinning from happiness, everything seemingly too good to be true. It was exactly what you’ve imagined and more.
Breaking the kiss, Lucas pressed his forehead against yours, his breath hot on your face. Opening your eyes to look at him, you can’t help but smile, he was looking at you as if you were the only thing that matters to him.
“I like you too, so so much.”
You felt your cheeks heating up at his confession and honestly, you didn’t really care if Lucas noticed or not.
Your best friend of years, Lucas Wong, just said that he felt the same for you.
“I’m sorry I made you upset.” Lucas nodded apologetically, his gaze soft. “I was going to ask you to prom and I didn’t expect you to make a move first, hell I didn’t even know if you liked me back. So I lied, that someone else was you, that was the only excuse I could think of at that time.”
“You could have just agreed you know?” You hummed, pushing his shoulder playfully.
“I know, I know.” He groaned, squeezing his eyes shut. “I’ve gotten it a lot for the past few days.”
“This was all planned huh?” You asked, realising why you’re in the park in the first place. “Yuqi was never gonna come.”
Lucas smiled down at you sheepishly, letting out a laugh that was music to your ears. Grabbing your hands once again, his expressions turned serious, asking you the question that you’ll say yes to in a heartbeat.
“Be mine?”
Leaning up to peck him, you nodded yes, your smile reaching your eyes. Lucas’s smile reached yours as he pulled you into him, his arms encircling your waist as he hugged you.
“I guess I have a date to prom then?” You asked, your words muffled since your head was buried in his chest. Lucas chuckled deeply, his grip on you tightening.
“That makes two of us.”

ap psychology
anonymous asked: Can I request readers putting all her studying off till the week before AP exams and she starts studying an unhealthy amount, like sometimes forgetting to eat all day because of it and even made herself sick from stress over it but reader refuses to complain because she did it to herself and Lydia's just there helping her review and making sure she takes time to care for herself ect? Bonus if Reader thinks she did bad and Lydia assuring her she did fine and has an 'i told you don't moment?
anonymous asked: Totally didn't request that bc that's my situation-
for some reason when i tried to queue this w/ the original ask, tumblr wanted to put the cut in the ask and i couldn’t delete it
this is out of date now, but i was uninspired to write for a hella long time sorry. also! i’m going to draw from my experiences w/ ap this year, and the only ap exam i had to take was psych, so that’s also going to be the case for reader :)
also, i feel like my lydia is a bit out of character? idk it’ll probably take a while to get back to the way i used to write her.
1303 words
cw: femreader. food
you cursed under your breath. months ago, months! you told yourself you would start studying for your ap exam. you only had the one exam to study for, so you told yourself that if you just did a little bit everyday, you would be fine.
but here you were, about three days until your ap psychology exam, and you hadn’t studied any of it. you had hardly even watched the videos your teacher had posted as the digital learning content. but to be fair, the stuff he was talking about in them were the last unit or two of psych, and you wouldn’t have to worry about them, because you weren’t going to be tested on them.
you groaned and dragged your feet downstairs, to where you hid your backpack. the friday weeks ago, when your school told everyone that classes would go digital for a few weeks because of the coronavirus, your teacher had come prepared. he gave everyone that showed up to class, which, granted, wasn’t that many but still- a huge packet covering everything that you had studied this year. it was some forty pages long.
okay, it was, like, thirty five because you crossed out the pages about personality and disorders. which was a shame, because those are the units that everyone takes psychology to learn about. no one goes, “oh boy, i can’t wait to learn about how to test if a baby has depth perception!” or “i can’t wait to learn about all the different types of visual illusions!” but whatever.
you flipped to page thirty five, to see how many questions you were in for. just over 250, except that’s counting all the charts as individual questions. yeah, that makes sense. one and a half pages of listing what researchers discovered what is equivalent to answering which cortex of the brain processes visual stimuli.
wait a minute. lydia was also taking psych. studying sucks, but if you could do it with your girlfriend, that’d be so much less painful.
you texted her, “hey lyds, have u finished the psych packet yet?”
”yea i finished it yesterday, why?” she texted back almost immediately.
shit. looks like you’ll have to suffer through this alone. “nvm”
you looked at the time, 1:46. damn, already? it felt like you had only just woken up. you made yourself a coffee, and set up shop on the desk you have never used in your bedroom, with laptop open beside you. you planned on googling everything, rather than going through your notes, mostly because you forgot where you put them, but this would still take ages.
an hour passed, and you felt like you were dying on the inside. if you had to answer one more question about behavioral psych, you were going to scream. behavioral psych is by far the worst part of psychology! watson and skinner be damned! people are people not some computer code! people have feelings! you can’t just ignore them! and the feeling you were feeling right now was not a good one!
you wanted to stop, but you weren’t sure if you stopped now if you’d be able to finish the packet. so you kept on going.
you went another five hours, taking five minute tik tok breaks every hour to keep you sane. you looked at the clock, and realized you hadn’t eaten anything today. you grabbed a box of cheez-its and made your way back upstairs, and went back to work. this time, you ate a cheez-it every time you finished a question, or you filled out a row in a chart.
you didn’t know when you fell asleep, but you woke up in the morning with about half the packet filled out. considering the exam was in one day, and four-ish hours, you thought that was good.
as you made your morning coffee, you checked the messages lydia had sent you. “are you doing okay? normally we talk a lot but…” “wait, are you working on the study guide?” “y/n! please take breaks! remember! you need food!” “and water!”
you sent back, “if i eat my cheez-its, and i drink my coffee while i study, then i don’t have to take breaks.”
you went back to your desk, and plugged your phone in across the room so you wouldn’t be distracted. but also because you forgot to charge it before you passed out, so it was at three percent, because apparently you had kept it open to tik tok all night, and the video just kept looping. oops.
for a while, the studying seemed easier. you felt like you had less to do, and you didn’t need to worry about getting it done in time, because you had more than enough of it. but because you didn’t need to rush, you became more productive.
you finished the second half of the packet by six that evening. you do admit, you got a bit lazy in the last few pages, but it was done!
shit. studying isn’t just writing stuff down, you have to read it over, right? you don’t really study that much.
but you decided to take an hour or two’s break for… breakfast? dinner? maybe even lunch? whatever, leftover pizza, because you had just only now just realized the intense rumbling in your stomach.
you checked your phone for the first time in hours. you were actually kind of proud of yourself. you usually were on your phone every waking hour, which was probably a problem, but you had shown enormous restraint… by spending every waking hour staring at your laptop. it’s all about choosing your battles.
you quickly dismissed some twitter notifications before tapping on a new message from lydia. “babe, i’m getting really worried about you, please call me when you see this.” you furrowed your brows. worried? about you? why?
you called lydia, and she picked up nearly immediately.
”y/n!” she gasped with relief, “don’t do that to me again!”
you felt stupid for wondering what she was talking about, but you kind of needed to know, “what do you mean?”
”you’ve been offline for hours, and i couldn’t get to you! and then when i heard what you were eating, that got me worried. have you eaten today?”
”three slices of pizza right now.” you swallowed a bite.
”is that your first meal today?”
”unless you count coffee, yeah. i’ll do better tomorrow, i promise. speaking of tomorrow, we’ve got the psych exam, and i need to keep studying. i’ll call after the exam, so like three?”
”y/n.”
”yeah?”
”you do realize this exam is online, right? and at home?”
”uh, yeah.” you swallowed.
”and you have both a laptop and a phone?”
”lydia, what are you saying?” cheating. she was definitely talking about cheating.
”i’m saying, that you don’t really need to know the definitions, because our dear old pal google can be there to help you out with those. and you’re smart, so i assume you know the concepts.”
”you think very highly, of me, my dear.” you took another bite of pizza. “so, what you’re saying is, i wasted two days studying?”
”yes, that is exactly what i’m saying.”
”shit. wait, why were you studying?”
”ugh, because i am nowhere near as good as you at being able to understand things.”
”you know, definitions explain the concept too.”
”what are you saying?” asked lydia.
”i think we’ve both wasted a lot of time studying when we didn’t need to.”
”fuck.” lydia breathed.
”yeah, we’re both idiots. do you wanna watch something on netflix? you haven’t finished parks and rec yet, right?”
”no, i just finished an episode before you called me.”
”which one?”
”season four, episode seven.”
”wait, is the next episode smallest park? we need to watch that, like, now.”

Ren snorts softly, offering a shrug at the idea that such people are just ‘ fans ’ of animals. Anything’s possible, though, right ? “ Oh, yeah, there are lots of those different conventions. Whatever floats people’s boats, I guess … it’s just kinda weird knowing there’s a bunch of people who’d be into me JUST because I have ears and a tail ! Not bad, just … weird. Some people even have the ears that can move. Now, that’s kinda freaky, seeing fake ears move like my real ones do, haha ! ”
He sticks his hands in his pockets, one ear perking up. “ … Yeah, no kidding ? I never got to know my boss’ friend that well. I know his name was Sano … but he only came around when one of us was really hurt or sick. All I really know about him is he was SCARY. It’s … good to see not all of ‘em are like that. I think it’s the whole snake thing and the fangs that give you the creep factor, you know ? Plus … Sano was venomous. Oof. He had a brother too, uhhh … I wanna say his name was Akira. He was a constrictor, though. What’s your friend, uh — Kalyan ? Do you know if he’s venomous or a constrictor ? I think constrictors are… pff, less scary. ”
“Oh, those people! Okay okay, I know what you’re talking about now!” Beams the alien woman, “I just thought at first they were like.. fans of animals or somethin’.” Black Star notes aloud, which is followed by a small hum. “One time I saw people in line waiting to get inside a CONVENTION THINGY and a few people had furry ears on their heads, I thought they were kinda cool looking!”
“Wait, did ‘ya say Naga?” The Gem’s eyes blink a few times in rapid succession. “I know a Naga, his name’s Kalyan!” Black Star’s smile was bright enough to light up a room. “It’s weird ‘cause at first he scared me.. but I got to know him and he’s not so bad!”

Alluring whispers, Chapter 7
Hope was torn once again about whether to tell the rest of the team about Loki’s visit to her room. Well, bathroom this time.
She kept replaying in her mind what Loki had said. That she would be the one begging him for him to take her… He couldn’t be serious, could he?
She decided to skip telling the others about that encounter. It was already embarrassing enough that he had caught her naked and fresh out of the shower.
The following few days were calm for Hope. There was no more sign of Loki, much to her relief.
She was just enjoying her down time one afternoon, reading a book in her room when there was an urgent knock on the door. It was Bruce, looking really worried.
‘What’s wrong?’
‘We need you, quickly!’ He grabbed her hand and the two rushed through the compound and outside.
Hope saw one of their aircrafts outside, they were not long back from a mission. But being carried out of it by Thor was Natasha, and being carried by Vision was Wanda. They were both badly injured.
‘What the hell happened?’ Hope asked as she ran over to them.
‘We were ambushed on the mission. Nat and Wanda were first off the ship and got the brunt of the attack.’ Steve explained.
Natasha and Wanda were placed down on the grass on front of Hope. She crouched down over Natasha and ran her hands over the top of her, concentrating to try and find where her injuries were.
‘What kind of attack?’ Hope asked, trying to get as much information as possible while she then scanned Wanda too.
‘Blasters, not normal guns or bombs though. Alien.’ Said Clint.
Hope managed to find the issues in Natasha. She was bleeding internally and had multiple broken bones. So she closed her eyes and concentrated on pushing her healing energy through into her. It took a little while because of the extensive injuries, but everyone was so relieved when Natasha let out a gasp and shot straight up in shock.
The omega then moved straight on to Wanda to do the same thing. Again, it took some time but she succeeded in saving Wanda too. Making it look so easy to the rest of them.
Wanda and Natasha were up on their feet within minutes, feeling completely fine.
Hope sat on the grass, getting her breath back. That had taken so much out of her. She knew it was going to take a while to recover from this one.
‘Hope, are you ok?’ Thor asked.
‘Yeah. Just… knackered.’ She said and waved her hand at him.
‘We owe you, Hope. Honestly, I don’t know what we would do without you.’ Natasha said, helping Hope up to her feet. She gave her a big hug, so did Wanda.
‘Just doing my job.’ Hope shrugged. ‘Now I need to go nap.’ She was struggling to keep her eyes open.
‘Do you want me to help you back?’ Tony offered.
‘No, I’ll be fine. Honest. Just make sure no one else gets hurt till tomorrow at least. I don’t know how much more energy I have for today.’ She said with a smile, patting Tony on the arm as she headed back inside.
Hope and the team all failed to notice a figure standing on the roof, watching what was going on.
When Hope got back to her room, her bed looked sooo inviting. And she didn’t even bother to change into her pjs as she collapsed onto it and crawled up to the top, letting out a sigh of relief.
She had just closed her eyes when she suddenly felt him.
But she was so tired.
‘Not now, Loki. Please.’ She whined and turned her face down into the pillow, not even opening her eyes to look at him.
She heard his footsteps move around her bed, then the bed dipped at the side.
‘My poor darling. You’re exhausted.’ He purred and started stroking her hair, making her melt even more into the bed if that was possible.
She wasn’t sure why she wasn’t too worried about him being in her room again. Was it perhaps because she was SO bloody tired? Maybe... Or maybe it was after the revelation yesterday where he said he wouldn’t rape her, and there was definitely no chance that she would ever beg him for it. So in a way, where was the danger now?
It totally wasn’t the fact that his touch felt like heaven. His voice was like velvet swimming through her veins and she oddly felt safe when he was around. No, not at all that…
But her mind was still slightly ticking over, even though she was half asleep.
‘Whaddyawant?’ She grumbled, turning her head slightly and opening one eye to take a peek.
He was smiling sweetly down at her while his fingers glided through her hair.
‘I just wanted to see you. That was very impressive what you did out there, saving them from the brink of death. My clever little omega.’ He purred.
She closed her eye again and Loki noticed a very small smile tug on her lips. Her breathing slowed down and her body relaxed even more.
‘Sleep, pet. I will watch over you.’
-
Hope woke up and stretched, feeling so refreshed after her nap. She rolled over and took a moment to focus. That’s when she spotted Loki sat on a chair by the window, reading.
She froze and her eyes went wide. He was still here? How long had she even been asleep for?
Sitting up, that’s when she realised she was wearing one of her nightgowns. The realisation that Loki must have changed her made her feel a little on edge.
‘Ah, you’re awake. Did you sleep well, pet?’ Loki smiled and had his book disappear.
Hope’s mouth was open for a while, not sure what to say. She looked around the room, then her eyes landed on the clock.
‘Oh my god!’ She gasped and leaped out of bed. She’d been asleep for over twenty-four hours!
‘I am, yes. But calling me Loki is just fine.’ Loki teased. He stood up and started stalking around the bed towards her.
‘Why didn’t you wake me? How could I sleep for that long? Did you drug me? What did you do?’ She panicked.
‘Shhh, calm down.’ He walked up to her and cupped her cheek. ‘I didn’t do anything to you… Apart from change you into something comfier.’ He said with a cheeky smirk. ‘I may have also been keeping everyone out of the way, so you could rest well. I saw how exhausted you were, and you needed to sleep.’
Hope’s eyes widened again. ‘Wh… what did you do?’
Loki cocked his head and chuckled. ‘Always thinking the worst. I haven’t harmed anyone, if that’s what you’re thinking. Though your friends may be going out of their mind slightly. I put a protective spell over your room, so no one can get in. They’ve been blasting and trying to Hulk their way through.’ Loki chuckled and glanced over at the door.
Hope looked confused. ‘Why?’
‘So you could rest. They already wanted you to heal someone else a mere two hours after you went to sleep.’ He walked over to the door and leaned against it to listen, he could hear them still trying to get in.
‘They do not appreciate you, my dear. They take advantage of your gift. What you can do is truly incredible. But they are treating you like a machine.’ He walked back over to her and cupped her face in both hands. ‘You need to look after yourself, too. You needed that sleep, or you wouldn’t have slept for so long. I merely allowed it to happen without interruption. You can do such wonderful things with your gift. But not if you are over-worked. Pushed to your limits.’
‘They… they aren’t taking advantage of me, Loki. They appreciate me.’ Hope said quietly, her mind not quite focusing from the closeness of the Alpha and his touch.
‘Just do not let them tire you out.’ He said softly. In that moment, Hope got lost in his eyes. And what was this? Was he truly, genuinely, worried about her health? It was... weird. But also, a little endearing.
She blinked a few times, she had to focus. This was Loki.
'I better go see if they’re alright.’ She pulled away from Loki, away from his touch. Even though deep down she wanted to do the complete opposite.
Loki sighed and shrugged. ‘Very well.’ He clicked his fingers and suddenly the door burst open, Tony and Clint came barging through, eyes wide when they saw Loki.
He turned to them and waved cheekily, then in a flash he was gone before they could get him.
‘Hope! Are you ok? What did he do?’ They both asked, rushing towards her. The rest of the team came barging into her room too.
‘I’m fine. He didn’t…’ Hope froze and looked confused. ‘He didn’t do anything.’
The team all looked just as confused too, looking between themselves.
‘We’ve been trying for hours and hours to get in! We thought he was hurting you, or worse.’ Natasha said.
‘I was just… sleeping. I was so tired, when I got into bed he appeared and just…’
‘Just, what?’ Thor asked, worried.
‘He just stroked my hair, and I fell asleep.’ Hope said honestly.
Natasha and Tony shared a what the fuck? look.
‘He stroked your hair? And that’s it?’ Wanda asked, looking at her in disbelief.
‘Yeah. That’s all that happened. When I woke up, he told me that I needed to rest and that’s why he put up some sort of shield around my room. I slept all this time.’ Hope shrugged.
The team were silent, all in shock. Thinking the worst had happened.
‘Well… he shouldn’t have gotten in here in the first place.’ Tony said and stormed out of the room, adamant to upgrade the security system. Again.
‘Alright, well… at least you’re ok. But we need to come up with something more to protect you.’ Said Bruce.
Everyone nodded in agreement. Hope just ran her hand down her face. ‘I need to get dressed… Do you all mind?’ She motioned to the door.
‘Yeah, sorry… There’s a queue of people, by the way, waiting for you at your room.’ Clint said on his way out with the rest of them.
When Hope was ready and turned the corner towards her healing room, she stopped dead and rolled her eyes.
‘Great. That’s not a queue, that’s a bloody mob!’ She groaned, internally cursing Clint.
There were loads of agents waiting outside her room with various ailments.
It took her all evening to heal everyone that was needing. Luckily, she was able to use her creams and potions for most of them, so she wasn’t too tired by the time she was finished.
She grabbed something to eat from the kitchen before going back to her room to sleep. Even though she only woke up that afternoon from a very long sleep, she felt like she could sleep for that long again.
But she froze when she entered her room. She could smell him. He’d been here, again.
Though there was no sign of him still being there, which made her a bit more relieved. It wasn’t until she was ready for bed, about to get in, when she spotted a small box on her pillow.
She picked it up and flipped it open, her eyes widened and her mouth fell open when she saw the most beautiful bracelet inside. It was a fine silver bracelet with the most beautiful greeny-blue gemstone, the Paraiba Tourmaline.
‘Oh my god.’ She gasped, hand over her mouth.
There was no need for her to wonder about who it was from, because it was blatantly obvious. Not to mention his scent was all over the box.
‘So much for Tony’s supposed security upgrade.’ She muttered to herself.

FIRST SNOW
-Jungkook Fluff-
Requested by @rosiegukk
‘Playing in the snow with gukkie?’
Author note:
Thank you so much for requesting!! I might write a little different than only playing in the snow, but i hope it is lovely enough to not to mind. Also, I am not sure where I read or learn about first snow thing, but I knew it is romanticised something. I searched a little and find out it is also related to Korean culture.
Anyways, I hope you will enjoy reading it~ Also need to mention that, reading ‘Symbols in the snow and kisses under the birch(jjk)’ from @alwayschoosechocolate gave me enough energy to finish writing this. I was actually waiting to finish my draft after my finals, but I am happy to finish.
~~~
First snow in the year has always been something for you, it has always been more intensely important to you than other people. When you were six, you watched a movie about two lovers falling in love in the first snow and the idea mesmerised you. You decided that you should definitely fall in love in first snow.
Either because of this dream of yours or your dramatically romantic being, you never feel it coming. Or it might be just that it simply didn’t come. But all your friends blamed you for having unrealistic expectations. They said you are thinking too much, resisting and making it harder. But for you, you simply waited for some kind of a spark. You know that first snow in a year is only once, you know it is just a childish dream. But other than that, you just wanted someone sincere. You just wanted it all to happen naturally. That’s why your friends’ effort to send you blind dates or pushing you to double dates with their boyfriends’ best friends didn’t help. You didn’t want anyone to date, you wanted someone to fall head over heels. You want it to happen out of sudden, turn your life upside down.
But as every other people, life does not give people everything they want, especially what they really want.
So, 20 year later, now, as a 26-year-old adult, you start to lose your belief in finding the love of your life. Maybe he was one of the main characters of one of your favourite novels. Maybe he was so unreal that, he only appeared in your dreams. Maybe just like how you give up the idea of falling in love in the first snow, finding your significant other would be given up, too.
Actually, you were never a type of a girl who complains being alone. You have always been alone, so why would you bother? It is only your friends who are complaining and rubbing it to your face. And only that times you feel a little bad. Not for not having a boyfriend but for not being like them. Your friends dated several guys and broke up of course. They cried each time and healed after some time. It was very usual for them and for most of the people of your age. Tiny worry reaches your heart, like ‘am I weird? ‘ but it is long forgotten when you read romance novels all night. After all, all of the impossible loves become possible at the last chapters.
...
November 1st
You woke up to a freezing morning. You normally complain about the cold mornings, but today you got up from your bed eagerly. Grabbing your new red pen from your drawer, you ran to your calendar.
“It is finally November!” you told to yourself and giggled. You opened the page of November and drew a little heart next to November 1st.
The excitement you feel every November was back to you, so you ran to your closet to choose a lovely outfit for celebrating the arrival of November.
After choosing your outfit for the day, you took a hot shower. It took an hour of you getting ready. While making your make up and styling your hair, you dance and sing along the radio. It was a good start to November, so when you were leaving home for work you were positive that this November is going to be a good one.
On the way to work, you continued to sing along to the radio while driving. Even the annoying morning traffic didn’t annoy you, because you left home too early, due to waking up early.
When you parked your car to the parking lot of your workplace, you checked your watch to see if you have a time for a quick trip to the coffee shop. When you see that there is still one hour, you quickly took your belongings and walked towards the coffee shop. It was only 5 minutes away from your office, so it became your superhero on the six months you have been working here. Their coffee taste amazing and their desserts are super tasty. Also, their playlist are a bop and they have super kind baristas, who puts extra cream to your frappes.
But your usual is cappuccino and double chocolate cookie. No matter how many times you get them, you never get bored of them. Just walking there, you already started to dream your cookie.
As you entered the coffee shop, you see a little queue. You quickly entered the queue and looked if they still have your cookie. There was one last of it, so you felt relieved. None of the people in front of you looks like a type to eat double chocolate cookie in the half-past seven am. One of them was a super slim girl, whose order you guess is filter coffee. Then, a man in his forties, who looks like he is going to order latte. And you... A cappuccino with double chocolate cookie. While you were daydreaming, the queue was processing pretty quickly. After the man it is your time to order. He checked out and you smiled in satisfaction while looking at your cookie.
“Hyung! You saved the cookie for me! I love you!” a guy said from behind you. You turned at him with disbelief.
“He what?” you asked. The guy who has a big smile on his face, finally looked at you.
“Ah! I am sorry Miss. I look like I am abusing your turn. But I know the barista, so I am going to leave after getting my cookie. “ he gave you a apologetic smile.
“Who said it is your cookie? “you said. He looked dumbfounded.
“Huh?”
“I came here before you, so it is definitely my cookie!” you said sassily.
“Uh.. I..” he couldn’t find something to say and scratched the back of his neck with a visible nervousness on his face.
“Actually, I was on the line for buying that cookie to my daughter.” The woman behind you told. A toddler was holding her hand tightly. You smiled at the sight.
“Seems like the little one needs the cookie more than us!” you said with a smile to the little girl who is shyly looking at her mom.
“Thank you!” her mother said and bought the cookie. You waved to the little girl and ordered yourself one filter coffee. You gave death glared at the man and left the coffee shop with your bitter filter coffee. On your way to office you huff and puff.
“He ruined my perfect morning! I lost my cookie and ended up with a filter coffee. I don’t even love filter coffee!!!”
When you reached the office with a big pout on your face, you expected Hyunseok to ask you what’s wrong. But when you entered the office, there was a chaos that you didn’t even know the cause of it. Thus, while trying to figure out the situation, you forgot the cookie.
When your eyes spot Hyunseok, you approached him after putting your bag and coat to your desk.
“What’s going on here today?” you asked.
“The new manager.” He said without even looking at you, he was busy with listening the gossip of your colleagues.
“New manager?” you asked.
“New manager of our department, Y/N. How come you don’t know?” he looked at you in disbelief.
“How can I know that they when they find a manager without seeing the person? I am not one of you gossipers..” you said.
“Yeah yeah.” He said with his attention already on another place. Not only his but everyone’s attention, even yours.
The same man in the coffee shop.
“You, cookie stealer!” you shouted while pointing at him.
All eyes turned at you, including his. Your colleagues have panic in their eyes, but you were too frustrated to notice their looks. His eyes however, has a mischievous glint in them.
“I didn’t steal your cookie!” he said with a smirk.
“Yes, you did more than that. You ruined my morning joy.” You said.
“You gave that cookie willingly to that toddler.” He smiled in a way that made you madder.
“What could I do in that state? She was looking at me innocently.” You said in disbelief.
“Well love, that is not my problem.” He said and shrugged his shoulder.
“But it is because of you!” you furrowed your brows. Before he can answer, the general manager came from the room the man came.
“Enough with the tantrum, Y/N.” the general manager said.
“But..” before you can reply he continued.
“I am here to introduce you all to our new manager for the project department but seems like Y/N is fast to beat me. Anyways, everyone meet Jeon Jungkook, he is going to be the one you are responsible to. “
You were speechless. Everyone was eagerly meeting him, trying to show off themselves. But you were frustrated, so you leave to your desk.
---
You worked all day trying to ignore everything around you. All of your colleagues were talking about him and you put your earbuds in order to not hear any of that. But it was hard for you to ignore it all, because time to time you see him, even worse time to time your eyes meet his and he gives you cocky smiles.
You repeated yourself to calm down till you end your work. When it is finally time that you can leave work, you didn’t waste any time. You even ran to the elevator and catch it before it leaves, because you didn’t want to stay there anymore for today. You shouted for the person inside to hold the elevator, but when elevator’s doors opened you regretted it immediately.
There, Jeon Jungkook is smiling at you.
You entered the elevator and mumbled a quick thank you. He was smiling but you ignored it. When the elevator reached the ground floor, you were hurrying to leave.
“Wait Y/N!” he said. You turned at him, even if you didn’t want to.
“Yes?”
“See you tomorrow!” he said and winked at you. You rolled your eyes at him and left to home.
---
Next morning you entered the coffee shop with a determination to buy your cookie. However, there was no cookie. So you bought your cappuccino and turn to leave the shop, again in a pout, but someone call your name.
“Y/N here, I bought you a cookie.” You see Jungkook is approaching you with two cookies in his hand. He smiled and hold one of the cookies for you.
“No, thanks.” You said and turned to leave. But he held your arm.
“I bought it for you, to apologize.” He smiled.
He had a sincere glint in his eyes, but you were not a one to admit it so you take your arm and leave. However, he was following you behind.
“Oh my god Y/N, you are so stubborn.”
“YES, I AM.”
---
Following three weeks passed with Jungkook not letting you live and you trying to run away from him. He was using every chance to pick on, you were using every chance to ignore, however he was seeming to be luckier than you.
On November 27th the weather forecasts were warning everyone for the expected heavy snow in the evening. It would be the first snow of the year, another first snow you are alone to watch. You sighed.
You were so eager in the morning of November 1st but starting from that day you have been dealing with Jungkook and his never-ending attempts to annoy you. You didn’t even have time to think about the first snow till today. But the weather forecasts were there to make you face it. So, today you were silent and in your own melancholic bubble.
You managed to dodge Jungkook’s attempts to annoy you. You left the office in peace and went to the coffee shop to buy yourself a cup of coffee. You get your coffee and turned to leave the coffee shop but Jungkook get in your way.
“Y/N, come sit with me!” he said.
“Sorry, I need to leave.” You said.
“You have been running away all the time.”
“I really need to leave this time, we can drink some coffee another time.” You said sadly.
“Why?”
“I.. It is going to snow, you know.” You said and looked down.
“So? If you are afraid, I can drive you home.” He offered with a little smile.
“No, that’s not that. I just want to be home at first snow.” You said feeling a little bad to admit it.
“Huh?? Why is that?” he asked curiously.
“Look, this might sound stupid but my dream from childhood was falling in love in the first snow. And seems like it is another year that I couldn’t find my significant other.” You said trying to not to meet his eyes.
“How do you know that? It hasn’t even snowed yet.”
“How can I find him, it is only a few hours away.” You said.
“Of course you can’t find him if you lock yourself to home on first snow. Stay here, we can drink coffee and I can but you a cookie or two. When it snows, we can go play with it. Maybe you can meet with your one. The street will be full of people who are there to enjoy first snow.” He smiled.
“Do you think I will?” you asked.
“Can’t promise but you will have more chance than staying at home.” He said and you smiled at his words. For the first time his words didn’t annoy you, even encouraged you. You took the chair and sat in front of him.
He gave you a big smile.
“Look, we took another step on our friendship. First snow is bringing goodness already.” He said eagerly. You laughed at his words.
“So, you are still buying me a cookie, or that was just for convincing me?” you asked. He laughed heartily.
“You really love cookies, don’t you?” he asked, and you nodded.
“Let me get some, real quick. Do you want any other thing?” he asked.
“No.” you said shyly. You were super confident while asking him to buy you cookie, but now feeling super shy.
A few minutes later Jungkook came with five or more cookies in his hands.
“Why so many?” you questioned. He shrugged his shoulder.
“Just in case if we both decided to eat the last one.” He said and you both giggled at his words.
He sat his chair and took one of the cookies.
“Finally, we can eat cookies together, in peace.” He said while looking at you with a weird smile in his eyes.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” you blushed and glanced away.
“I don’t know, maybe I am wondering if you still hate me after buying you cookies.” He teased you.
“I am not hating you, just annoyed by you.” You said and mentally facepalmed yourself.
“Oh, that really made me content!” he mocked you.
“No, I mean, I was just seeing you as an enemy, because of my cookies!” you said and laughed.
“You are crazy Y/N!” he was trying his best to hold his smile.
“I hear that a lot!”
---
In the remaining of the evening you sat and talked with Jungkook about everything and anything. If they told you yesterday that you can talk with Jungkook about anything unrelated to work more than two minutes you would laugh their faces but turns out that Jungkook wasn’t a cruel cookie monster. He made you laughed so much, that you were about to forget the first snow for that night. However, the excited squeal of one girl on the cafe was there to turn heads of every customer in the cafe to the window.
“Babe, look, it is snowing!” she squealed and hurried her boyfriend to get out. Their coffees were long forgotten and a few seconds later they were kissing under the snow.
“Wow, a sight from a cheesy romance movie!” you sighed. Jungkook looked at you.
“Hey, don’t give up your hope! Tonight, we are finding the love of your life!” he said with a smile.
“Don’t tease me Jungkook! We both know it is not happening any soon.” you said with a half-smile.
“And why is that? It has just started, and we are not even out yet. You are finishing your last bite of your cookie and we are going out. We are going to walk all night and your lover will pop out in one street or another.” He hurried you.
“We will catch cold, if we walk in the snow.” You mumbled.
“You are going to find your lover, you need to make a sacrifice.” He took your hand and brought you outside. You felt your cheeks blushing.
‘Why is he even holding my hand??’ you thought to yourself.
In order to hide your blush, you decided to whine from cold.
“Don’t you think it is too cold to walk out?” you asked. Jungkook stopped walking and took off his scarf. He approached you and put his scarf around your neck.
“Here, you won’t feel that cold anymore. And we are not going to give up.” He said and continued to walk while holding your hand.
Although holding his hand was unusual, actually holding anyone’s hand for long was unusual for you, you tried to get used to, just for keeping your hand warm.
He was talking about everything. One minute he is pointing how beautiful the snow looks, the second he was complaining about his neighbour’s dog who always barks at him angrily. It was beautiful to listen to him talking keenly, but what you noticed is his handsome face that you never even paid attention before. Sure, you realized that your annoying new manager has good looks. But you never look at his face attentively. He shows his emotions and thoughts with his face, especially with his eyes, a pair of beautiful brown eyes. And even if time to time you are having a hard time to pay attention to his words, his eyes were giving you all of the feelings that you are supposed to get.
But just because you are staring him does not mean you are not listening to him. Of course, you pay attention to him and answer, but time to time his face becomes so attention grabbing, either with his attractive smile or cute reaction to the thing he is talking about.
Seems like you were lost in your thoughts while staring at his face for the nth time that night because you only paid attention to your surroundings when he stopped walking. You were in front of a park, where people were playing with snow. Either making snow angels or playing snowball with their loved ones.
“Would like to play?” he asked while looking at you.
“Snowball?” you asked.
“Why are you looking so surprised?” he asked.
“I don’t.” you laughed.
“We are playing, then?” he asked. You nodded at him. And the next second you were running to prepare a snowball to throw at him.
“You are too fast for a person who looks like I am asking the craziest thing to do!” Jungkook shouted while preparing his own snowball.
“Maybe I did it in order to take you by surprise, you never know Jeon Jungkook!” you said and threw a snowball at him. He was fast to dodge it.
“Right, you might be! But I am good at reacting, love!” he said cockily and threw his own before you have a chance to run away.
He gave you a childish smile and started to prepare his new snowballs, so do you.
An hour passed by you two running around, throwing snowballs to each other and laugh. It was definitely fun to play but tiredness was apparent on both of your faces and breaths.
“Y/N, how about continuing our war another day?” he asked.
“You are holding two damn snowballs in your hands Jungkook!” you said.
“I am ready to throw them down, I am tired.” He whined.
“Okay, then we are throwing them at the same time.” You said and counted.
When both of you threw your snowballs, he approached you with a smile.
“Look I am not that bad guy..” his words cut with a snowball hitting his back. You both turned back to see a man saying sorry for his poor skills of aiming.
You giggled, he pouted and you giggled more. You shook the snow from his back.
“Ahaha, poor you!” you smiled.
“Don’t be cruel!” he said and fake pouted.
“Enough with the snow. Let’s go before we really become sick.” You said and tried to drag him out of the park. But he held your arm to stop you.
“Look at these kids.” He pointed some kids making snow angels on the untouched snow.
“They look adorable!” your face beamed at the sight.
“Come on, we should make some too.” He said and dragged you to some untouched snow.
When he felt satisfied with the snow, he pushed you back gently and let himself fall back, too. You weren’t expecting that but happily complied.
Both of you were pushing your arms up and down while lying on the snow, like kids with giggles.
After a few minutes, you both were feeling satisfied with your snow angels but too tired to get up.
“We should take a photo of our snow angels.” He said and you nodded while looking at his eyes.
“Are you tired?” you asked.
“I…” before he can finish his words, he saw a snowball approaching you so he rolled his self on top of you and it hit him instead. However, you both were too distracted to care about the snowball. He was one or two inch away from you and his eyes were locked to yours.
“Y/N?” he asked.
“Huh?”
“I brought you out to find the love of your life, but is it too selfish if I kiss you?” he asked, still looking at you intently. Your eyes grew bigger at his bold words. But you weren’t at a state to hesitate, your heart was beating too fast to deny your feelings.
So, you pecked his lips quickly and pushed him from yourself before he can even understand what is happening.
However, you were already up, running away while holding your hands on your cheeks to hide your blush. But it was bold of you to think that you can run away from him, Jungkook was taller than you to catch you without even putting too much energy. He grabbed your wrist and turned you to face him. You look down to not to meet his eyes.
“You can’t run away like that after kissing me!” he said with a playful smile.
“I didn’t kiss you!” you protested. “I just pecked your lips.” You mumbled the last sentence.
He laughed at your words and you just felt your cheeks grow redder.
“Okay, let me correct. You can’t run away like that after pecking my lips!” he said and you look at him, clearly annoyed with his teasing. You stared his eyes while frowning but he was looking at you with heart eyes, which is not helping your situation and annoying you more.
“What?” you asked.
“You tell me.” He said.
“You started it first with asking me!” you protested.
“Can’t you just say?” He asked.
“Say what?” you asked back.
“Say that, I am not the only one to have this big crush!” he said, and you look at him surprised.
“Don’t look at me like that! You have been messing with my heart since that day you fought me for that cookie. I tried to start a little conversation with you, but you were still angry at me for that cookie. And when I convinced you to drink some coffee with me, I was trying to cheer you up for you to search for the love of your life. It broke my heart, but I just wanted to see you happy.
But all the time we walked, I felt so contented and happy. You were distractingly beautiful even when snow is ruining your makeup and the tip of your nose is red from cold.
You were giving the cutest reactions when my snowballs hit you, and my heart just beat faster as if it is not beating crazily. And you were smiling like a real angel, while making your snow angel. And I was just falling harder for you.
Is it too bad of me to wish that I am the love of your life that you fall in love in the first snow?” he looked at your eyes with his doe ones. You look at his eyes back.
“No, it wouldn’t.”
And you tiptoed to kiss him. He wrapped his arms around your waist to hold you. The snow was falling even harder, but both of you were too busy to care. After all, it was a real kiss, not a peck!
Alluring whispers, Chapter 7
TITLE: Alluring whispers CHAPTER NO./ONE SHOT: Chapter 7 AUTHOR: fanficshiddles ORIGINAL IMAGINE: Imagine Loki has the tesseract again and is captured by The Avengers. Where he discovers they have an omega who has healing powers living with them. He’s an Alpha and he wants her,badly. She is the epitome of all things good, and trying her best to avoid his seductive advances. But it’s not easy due to their instincts and biology. The Avengers do their best to keep the omega safe, but Loki is on the hunt and is hungry for her. RATING: M
Hope was torn once again about whether to tell the rest of the team about Loki’s visit to her room. Well, bathroom this time.
She kept replaying in her mind what Loki had said. That she would be the one begging him for him to take her… He couldn’t be serious, could he?
She decided to skip telling the others about that encounter. It was already embarrassing enough that he had caught her naked and fresh out of the shower.
The following few days were calm for Hope. There was no more sign of Loki, much to her relief.
She was just enjoying her down time one afternoon, reading a book in her room when there was an urgent knock on the door. It was Bruce, looking really worried.
‘What’s wrong?’
‘We need you, quickly!’ He grabbed her hand and the two rushed through the compound and outside.
Hope saw one of their aircrafts outside, they were not long back from a mission. But being carried out of it by Thor was Natasha, and being carried by Vision was Wanda. They were both badly injured.
‘What the hell happened?’ Hope asked as she ran over to them.
‘We were ambushed on the mission. Nat and Wanda were first off the ship and got the brunt of the attack.’ Steve explained.
Natasha and Wanda were placed down on the grass on front of Hope. She crouched down over Natasha and ran her hands over the top of her, concentrating to try and find where her injuries were.
‘What kind of attack?’ Hope asked, trying to get as much information as possible while she then scanned Wanda too.
‘Blasters, not normal guns or bombs though. Alien.’ Said Clint.
Hope managed to find the issues in Natasha. She was bleeding internally and had multiple broken bones. So she closed her eyes and concentrated on pushing her healing energy through into her. It took a little while because of the extensive injuries, but everyone was so relieved when Natasha let out a gasp and shot straight up in shock.
The omega then moved straight on to Wanda to do the same thing. Again, it took some time but she succeeded in saving Wanda too. Making it look so easy to the rest of them.
Wanda and Natasha were up on their feet within minutes, feeling completely fine.
Hope sat on the grass, getting her breath back. That had taken so much out of her. She knew it was going to take a while to recover from this one.
‘Hope, are you ok?’ Thor asked.
‘Yeah. Just… knackered.’ She said and waved her hand at him.
‘We owe you, Hope. Honestly, I don’t know what we would do without you.’ Natasha said, helping Hope up to her feet. She gave her a big hug, so did Wanda.
‘Just doing my job.’ Hope shrugged. ‘Now I need to go nap.’ She was struggling to keep her eyes open.
‘Do you want me to help you back?’ Tony offered.
‘No, I’ll be fine. Honest. Just make sure no one else gets hurt till tomorrow at least. I don’t know how much more energy I have for today.’ She said with a smile, patting Tony on the arm as she headed back inside.
Hope and the team all failed to notice a figure standing on the roof, watching what was going on.
When Hope got back to her room, her bed looked sooo inviting. And she didn’t even bother to change into her pjs as she collapsed onto it and crawled up to the top, letting out a sigh of relief.
She had just closed her eyes when she suddenly felt him.
But she was so tired.
‘Not now, Loki. Please.’ She whined and turned her face down into the pillow, not even opening her eyes to look at him.
She heard his footsteps move around her bed, then the bed dipped at the side.
‘My poor darling. You’re exhausted.’ He purred and started stroking her hair, making her melt even more into the bed if that was possible.
She wasn’t sure why she wasn’t too worried about him being in her room again. Was it perhaps because she was SO bloody tired? Maybe… Or maybe it was after the revelation yesterday where he said he wouldn’t rape her, and there was definitely no chance that she would ever beg him for it. So in a way, where was the danger now?
It totally wasn’t the fact that his touch felt like heaven. His voice was like velvet swimming through her veins and she oddly felt safe when he was around. No, not at all that…
But her mind was still slightly ticking over, even though she was half asleep.
‘Whaddyawant?’ She grumbled, turning her head slightly and opening one eye to take a peek.
He was smiling sweetly down at her while his fingers glided through her hair.
‘I just wanted to see you. That was very impressive what you did out there, saving them from the brink of death. My clever little omega.’ He purred.
She closed her eye again and Loki noticed a very small smile tug on her lips. Her breathing slowed down and her body relaxed even more.
‘Sleep, pet. I will watch over you.’
-
Hope woke up and stretched, feeling so refreshed after her nap. She rolled over and took a moment to focus. That’s when she spotted Loki sat on a chair by the window, reading.
She froze and her eyes went wide. He was still here? How long had she even been asleep for?
Sitting up, that’s when she realised she was wearing one of her nightgowns. The realisation that Loki must have changed her made her feel a little on edge.
‘Ah, you’re awake. Did you sleep well, pet?’ Loki smiled and had his book disappear.
Hope’s mouth was open for a while, not sure what to say. She looked around the room, then her eyes landed on the clock.
‘Oh my god!’ She gasped and leaped out of bed. She’d been asleep for over twenty-four hours!
‘I am, yes. But calling me Loki is just fine.’ Loki teased. He stood up and started stalking around the bed towards her.
‘Why didn’t you wake me? How could I sleep for that long? Did you drug me? What did you do?’ She panicked.
‘Shhh, calm down.’ He walked up to her and cupped her cheek. ‘I didn’t do anything to you… Apart from change you into something comfier.’ He said with a cheeky smirk. ‘I may have also been keeping everyone out of the way, so you could rest well. I saw how exhausted you were, and you needed to sleep.’
Hope’s eyes widened again. ‘Wh… what did you do?’
Loki cocked his head and chuckled. ‘Always thinking the worst. I haven’t harmed anyone, if that’s what you’re thinking. Though your friends may be going out of their mind slightly. I put a protective spell over your room, so no one can get in. They’ve been blasting and trying to Hulk their way through.’ Loki chuckled and glanced over at the door.
Hope looked confused. ‘Why?’
‘So you could rest. They already wanted you to heal someone else a mere two hours after you went to sleep.’ He walked over to the door and leaned against it to listen, he could hear them still trying to get in.
‘They do not appreciate you, my dear. They take advantage of your gift. What you can do is truly incredible. But they are treating you like a machine.’ He walked back over to her and cupped her face in both hands. ‘You need to look after yourself, too. You needed that sleep, or you wouldn’t have slept for so long. I merely allowed it to happen without interruption. You can do such wonderful things with your gift. But not if you are over-worked. Pushed to your limits.’
‘They… they aren’t taking advantage of me, Loki. They appreciate me.’ Hope said quietly, her mind not quite focusing from the closeness of the Alpha and his touch.
‘Just do not let them tire you out.’ He said softly. In that moment, Hope got lost in his eyes. And what was this? Was he truly, genuinely, worried about her health? It was… weird. But also, a little endearing.
She blinked a few times, she had to focus. This was Loki.
‘I better go see if they’re alright.’ She pulled away from Loki, away from his touch. Even though deep down she wanted to do the complete opposite.
Loki sighed and shrugged. ‘Very well.’ He clicked his fingers and suddenly the door burst open, Tony and Clint came barging through, eyes wide when they saw Loki.
He turned to them and waved cheekily, then in a flash he was gone before they could get him.
‘Hope! Are you ok? What did he do?’ They both asked, rushing towards her. The rest of the team came barging into her room too.
‘I’m fine. He didn’t…’ Hope froze and looked confused. ‘He didn’t do anything.’
The team all looked just as confused too, looking between themselves.
‘We’ve been trying for hours and hours to get in! We thought he was hurting you, or worse.’ Natasha said.
‘I was just… sleeping. I was so tired, when I got into bed he appeared and just…’
‘Just, what?’ Thor asked, worried.
‘He just stroked my hair, and I fell asleep.’ Hope said honestly.
Natasha and Tony shared a what the fuck? look.
‘He stroked your hair? And that’s it?’ Wanda asked, looking at her in disbelief.
‘Yeah. That’s all that happened. When I woke up, he told me that I needed to rest and that’s why he put up some sort of shield around my room. I slept all this time.’ Hope shrugged.
The team were silent, all in shock. Thinking the worst had happened.
‘Well… he shouldn’t have gotten in here in the first place.’ Tony said and stormed out of the room, adamant to upgrade the security system. Again.
‘Alright, well… at least you’re ok. But we need to come up with something more to protect you.’ Said Bruce.
Everyone nodded in agreement. Hope just ran her hand down her face. ‘I need to get dressed… Do you all mind?’ She motioned to the door.
‘Yeah, sorry… There’s a queue of people, by the way, waiting for you at your room.’ Clint said on his way out with the rest of them.
When Hope was ready and turned the corner towards her healing room, she stopped dead and rolled her eyes.
‘Great. That’s not a queue, that’s a bloody mob!’ She groaned, internally cursing Clint.
There were loads of agents waiting outside her room with various ailments.
It took her all evening to heal everyone that was needing. Luckily, she was able to use her creams and potions for most of them, so she wasn’t too tired by the time she was finished.
She grabbed something to eat from the kitchen before going back to her room to sleep. Even though she only woke up that afternoon from a very long sleep, she felt like she could sleep for that long again.
But she froze when she entered her room. She could smell him. He’d been here, again.
Though there was no sign of him still being there, which made her a bit more relieved. It wasn’t until she was ready for bed, about to get in, when she spotted a small box on her pillow.
She picked it up and flipped it open, her eyes widened and her mouth fell open when she saw the most beautiful bracelet inside. It was a fine silver bracelet with the most beautiful greeny-blue gemstone, the Paraiba Tourmaline.
‘Oh my god.’ She gasped, hand over her mouth.
There was no need for her to wonder about who it was from, because it was blatantly obvious. Not to mention his scent was all over the box.
‘So much for Tony’s supposed security upgrade.’ She muttered to herself.
In all honesty, Bum couldn’t have cared too much who it was that saved him. Who or why or how. All he knew was that he finally had a chance at being free from his captor. How long had it been …? Weeks, months ? No … no, it had to have been at least a year. As ready as he was to get away, there was a part of him in his chest that ached with the thought of leaving.
You love Sangwoo, don’t you ? His mind continued to make him second guess, no matter how much lighter he felt with each step which put distance between the two of them. He’s said it before : he’s the best you’ll ever do. Why are you running from that ?
But the surge of RELIEF he felt upon hearing someone’s voice on the other side of the door, telling him he could come inside, was undeniable. Even if there was a part of him that loved Sangwoo, the fear of him overrode it. The idea of running into somewhere and being safe at last, to have someone believe he needed help and to believe he was worthy of helping, made him want to break down in tears.
And, that was exactly what he did, as the door was ‘ opened ’. Past the film of tears that immediately sprang to his eyes, Bum was probably missing some details. All he could see was an open door, and a staircase. It didn’t take anything other than the worry that Sangwoo might have been right behind him for him to hurry inside. Though his feet trip him up a little, he makes it in with little incident.
You’ll be safe, the other person had said, and the tears began anew. Nobody had ever said that to him before, not in his entire life. No one had ever tried to SAVE HIM, until now.
“ Th… thank you so much … ” His hand scrabbled against the wall as he took steps down the stairs. “ I’m … I’m so sorry, I j-just … I don’t know if he’s b-behind me or … ”
Expanding on his systems had become an involuntary action for AM. So much so that he often wondered when he would run out of earth to tunnel through, when he would deplete the world’s steel and gold to form more and more circuitry. Occasionally he mused about whether he would one day reach into another world, another realm, perhaps one where humanity still thrived. But such hypotheses never really went anywhere.
Until today.
At the end of a long, meandering upward tunnel his sensors detected a voice. A frightened human voice, and a banging on...wood? In all his years, never had he (well, only once had he) actually reached the surface.
It was going to be a strain with the extremity being so far away from his brain, but AM would most certainly not waste the opportunity for a new toy. As fast as he could, the complex constructed a crude staircase to the door, hoping the human would be willing to climb down far enough that he could drag them away down the tunnel.
“Yes? Please come in,” AM called out in his most enticing voice. It occurred to him that the door may be locked, and so he quickly manifested something that could pass as a human arm and yanked the door off its hinges. The arm then snaked back into the darkness before the human could see it was not actually connected to a body.
AM tried to hold back his excitement. “You’ll be safe down here. Come along.”
The long staircase awaited Bum.
Shit’s about to hit the fan ya’ll. Unedited, sorry, let me know of you find any mistakes!
Buying an old house was perdition disguised as a home.
Jun scoured through the wires of the electrical system. FallHaven weather circumstances were something he was cautioned about beforehand. Days consisted of hard-hitting heat, while the dusks were frigid and aloof. The outdated HVAC wiring had made the temperatures of the self-contained rooms a roller coaster, never knowing how severely the ventilation of said room would get tropical or glacial. Behind him, beyond the croaking and crickets; laid his back-porch barrier, it’s paint chipping from the fractured foundation. He previously spent $1000 to fix the asbestos grit around the house, and just yesterday he made a call to confirm the rumors of lead paint. Never has he regretted anything more than not contacting a house inspector prior the move.
Closing the chaotic cabinet of cables, Jun huffs, patting the few beads of sweat with the bottom of his tank top. He’ll ask uncle Alp about it in the morning. Maybe he should start a fire tonight. Taking a few steps to his back door, he opens it and squints at the hallway’s light. Locking the knob, he turns around, treading into the hall leading into the living room, before he stops in front of your decrepit door.
Right after you stepped into the house, you shut yourself in your room. Not responding to any of his inquiries or pleads. The hours had passed on in silence, and the house seemed too lonely for the night. Your food was left untouched on the table. Wanting you to come out, he had made your favorite stew with the produce he bought today. Its rich spice had glided throughout the capacity. He knew it was fruitless, and he tried to be patient, but his mind glimmered with hope that you’ll come out your door in any moment, drool at the side of your mouth, ogling his food like a bear ogles at honey. He chuckled at the image.
But it didn’t come true. You hadn’t come out. You hadn’t even made a sound, and that to him was worrisome more than anything. As someone who always had a comment on everything, much to Jun’s displeasure, to see you so mute reminds him of those days. The worst fucking mistake of his life. A nightmare that often visits him still, making a nest in his subconscious like a fatal tumor. And then there’s the wounds on your wrist.
Jun wasn’t an impatient man; high off his own ego plenty to break down your protective barrier. It was something he had to teach himself, just like most of the things in his life, coming from a place where you don’t learn anything from anyone, but see it all anyway. Yet his intolerance for desolation splintered the shield that was his reasoning. He grew up this way. A string of impulsive verdicts-results of mental burdens, dissociating him from himself. They could only lead to tragedy and he’s had abundant amounts of that serving. So instead he’ll pride himself in being cautious, especially when it comes to you.
Staring at the imbedded wooden material, he starts fretting about your bruise. The color is probably richer and unusual. You hadn’t even let him look properly, and there’s no aid in your room. Biting his nails, he contemplates urgently of what to do. Teenagers are impossible, he sighs, you were much easier to handle when you were a kid. Not to mention cuter.
That’s when it hits him. He’ll sing that song you love, just like he used to when you were a kid! Yet he cringes as soon as he thinks it. It’s been a few years, and you were way older now. Still, it worked before, it worked during that nightmare. He soundlessly pleads with the god you believe in.
Quietly clearing his throat, he hums almost inaudibly. Can’t believe I’m getting warmed up for this, he reflects. If you don’t come out subsequently, he’ll die of grief or shame. Whichever hits him first. Pacing back a bit, away from your heavy door, he slowly begins to sing,
“Somewhere over the rainbowww-,”
…
“Waaa-y up high”
“There's a land that I heard of once, in a lullaby…”
“Somewhere over the rainbowww-, skies are blue,”
…
“And the dreams that you dare to dream…”
“…really do come true…”
A second passed. Then 10…eventually 30.
2 minutes had passed.
He looks down, dejected. Despair coursing his veins, he lets out a heavy breath; he didn’t want to go through this once more.
The lock clicks open!
His head jumps up to face the door being pulled in and your timid figure walking out. He wants to cry and give you a huge hug; wrap you around in his arms with love and comfort, but he doesn’t have the heart to scare you again, so he just stands there as you do too. You stare at him with meek eyes, the dark bags laying just beneath them pull at the strings of his heart.
Pulling his thoughts together he softly speaks to you,
“Hey”
He’s not sure what to say though
Does he question who that lady was? Does he ask about your wrist? Or dinner? Should he drop the topic and make a joke about something entirely different instead? Which option would make you open up? He’s as naïve as he was 3 years ago.
“Hi” you whisper
“Listen I know you don-”
“I don’t know” you interrupt Jun, “I don’t know who that lady was and I don’t want to”
“I’m gonna talk to some people about her tomorrow, someone should know” he cautiously puts his hand on your shoulder, squeezing it slightly in comfort, “Don’t worry, I’m not gonna let her come near you again”
You stare at the floor, not saying a word while Jun analyzes even the tiniest twitch of your nose
“Can I look at your wrist, princess?”
Shutting your eyes, you tense your shoulders. It’s all right, it’s just Jun you think, as you bring your wrist into view. The both of you were examining the purple blue hues around the skin together. Jun touches it lightly with his digits making you flinch, so he backs up before marginally trying yet again. Making contact with your cold casing, he shudders and averts his head before he grabs your fingers in his own and tugs your hand back down. He can’t come to terms with it still like a run-away, and it’s the one thing he deters from. How much of a coward he is.
“Jun-”
“Sorry, yeah I know,” He knows better than anyone, that’s what he said. But he doesn’t know when you make his way into his chest and wrap your arms over his trembling limbs. Doesn’t know he needs comfort more than you. Doesn’t know why you still trust him. Doesn’t know when you’ve grown up so much.
“Jun” you stifle in his shoulders, “It’s alright now, I’m fine. My wrist. My wounds…it doesn’t hurt, I don’t feel anything”
“I’m just sad,” He feels your tears on his shirt as you let out a choked sob, “That nothing has changed within 3 years. That I’m still so weak…she could’ve done anything”
“No, no, no!” Jun holds you protectively, “nothing is gonna happen to you…not when I’m around”
And you weren’t.
His evil mind brands the painful statement of his truth as he secures his senses and holds you tighter.
“…I just want to forget today Jun…please. I don’t want to talk about it again. Not when we have so much to look forward to”
“Anything…”
Just like him you don’t want to go through this again. You scarcely survived last time, and its misery expanses through your blood, the evidence on your wrist. Adversity is what you were doomed with, you were aware-made peace with it long ago. And so, like any survivor would; you did what you had to do to move on. Block out the pain and smile. Even if it kills you.
Removing your face off his torso, you wipe your tears with your fist.
“Did they find Mojo?”
“Mojo? …Oh, the dog? They did!” Jun laughs helping you wipe your tears, “He was found barking at a fresh beef jerky station”
Thank God he was safe. For some reason you assumed the old woman kidnapped him. Found barking at beef jerky huh…that sounds delicious.
“I’m hungry” your lips form into a pout and you pat at your lowly rumbling stomach and Jun gives you the biggest grin
“Excellent” he says while fiddling his fingers together like an evil cartoon character “Let me go fix your plate and grab the first aid mwahahaha”
You’re extremely confused with his demeanor and make it known by scrunching your face in half confusion and half disgust
“Did you poison the food?”
“Ahahaha…no,” He starts stepping away towards the kitchen, “Some things just work out according to your plan”
“Like the lullaby?”
He stops in the middle of the hallway as the expressions on your face’s switches with each other “I didn’t know you were still so soft Junie”
“Shut up”
“And your voice! Have you been sneakily practicing Mr. Sinatra?”
“M-m-maybe you sh-should go to bed without food!” He stutters with a red face and his hands on his hips
That shuts you up as you give him a ‘Hmph!” and pass him on the hall into the dining room. “Whoa!” you gasp as you notice the clock, “11:41 already”
“WHAT?!” Jun shouts rushing into the room and witnessing your comment “You have school tomorrow! This isn’t good,” he grabs your plate at the table and speeds to the microwave
“Does this mean I get to stay up till 2?”
“NO!”
The weather was frosty these days, tickling you through the ruffles of your tight purple dress. You skipped amongst the inner lining of the wooded area, close enough to see the highway through the shrubs, holding tiny rocks in your fist. You weren’t fully clothed for the temperature, short sleeves and loose tights making your tiny limbs tremble for a good 20 minutes; you wanted to go home. Instead you distracted yourself by picking up little bits of the earth.
“Don’t get too close to the water” you hear from behind. Twirling on one leg, you observe the petite woman towering on the upper side of the ditch, glaring through your soul. She stood by one of the large dead trees, her arms folded across her chest.
There are shadows under her eyes, stiffening the complexion of her pale skin. She stares down at you with her flooded pupils. Her fingers scratching at her arm through the warm jacket she wore.
“The water…don’t get too close” She repeats in the familiar fatigued tone. Her scarf seems to be suffocating her neck, and the padded jacket made a sleek noise every time she made a move. You can spot her steady breaths in the bitter air. For a moment there’s nothing but silenced stares shared between you and her.
That vanishes as soon as a large black car passes by. She whips her head into the direction of the street she’s near, as her breath comes out in a speedier rate. You also turn away from her stature, focused on finding more rocks. They lead into the mini creek in the end of the ditch. Walking up to the creek, you squat to watch your reflection in the water. It was better than your small mirror, you think, fixing your beanie and wiping the stray hairs irritating your face.
“Hey! What did I tell you?” you once again turn to find her figure in your direction once again. There was a hint of anger in her pupils, she appears like she’ll walk up to you any second now until you hear another voice.
“It’s you right?” The stranger wearing all black paces up to her, he seemed scary – you couldn’t see his face by his hood covering, but he was taller than her and you were scared for her.
“Nice place you picked, asshole” She grits at him, having completely forgotten about your presence, digging into her purse feverously
“Come on, it’s a dead road sweetheart. No one comes around these parts” he laughs at her annoyed attitude.
He makes eye contact with you, and you sense your heart skip a beat. “Cute kid” he smiles at you.
The woman gives you a quick glance from her rummaging, “You’re scaring her” she returns to her digging
“Aww why? I’m not a bad guy,” he gives you a wave as she snorts
She gets out a bunch of money, you don’t know how much, it’s all stuffed and crumpled in her hand. Giving it a glance over, she shoves it into his chest. You watch him sigh, and mildly remove the cash from her fingers. He straightens out the bills and begins counting them.
“You’re short” He says, folding the notes and fitting them into his back pocket. “15 milligrams only”
“15?” she shouts before noticing her surroundings, and harshly whispers “You gave me 30 for this much last time”
“That was last time sweetheart, price’s changed”
You gawk as she leaps at him, her palms clutching the sides of his hoodie, having you seal your tiny rocks into your own palm. “P-Please – don’t do this” she spits out “It doesn’t – it barely works anymore, it hurts, it hurts so much – everywhere I-I can’t”
He pushes her off him, into the ground making you stand up straight as heat fills your bones. “That’s not my problem, don’t spit on me bitch” he yells as she heaves on the scattered dead leaves. He watches her struggle a bit before taking a long breath, “Shit, I didn’t mean that…I’ve already been having a bad day, don’t just jump up on me” he messes with his hoodie
Dragging her up to her feet, he takes out a petty clear bag, filled with white powder. Her neck’s bending towards the ground, she refuses to look up at him, which gets him rowdier. He pulls her arm up and crams the bag into her hand.
“You want more? Get more money” he sneers, “Sell that kid” he points at you
“Or better yet, buy her a jacket” he finishes, stomping away with his hands in his jacket’s pouch.
You watch him leave as the freezing wind picks up again. She doesn’t move a muscle facing away from your view. Having the alarms in your head pacified by the lull of the forest, you return your gaze to the creek. There’s a shiny rock in the center of the stream, which makes you squat out of curiosity once again. It’s shimmering the light of the sun, which you were sure was covered by fluffy clouds when you stepped outside. Your face turns up, as you make direct eye contact with the ball of glaring fury. Squinting at the flares you bring your small fist up to protect your sight.
At that moment you hear the crunching of leaves by your rear, a voice deeply surrounding your passive frame –
“What did I tell you about the water”
Sitting up in your bed you stare off into the corner of your messy mattress. The lining seems to be ripping from the sheet due to your endless fluster. You’re deep in your thoughts, not being comprehensively conscious to the morning chirps of blue jays – their high-pitched revenue placating you to doze off. In brief, you were still perplexed by your dream. It’s been a long while since you’ve thought of her.
Saturday was finally here. The rest day for a million chores, sunny and bright for your pleasure. You think back on the week, which has been smooth sailing minus a few unintentional mishaps. It's been an easy couple of days, if you take away your anxiety and the few occurrences where you’d look over your shoulder to make sure no elderly lady was following you. Yesterday you almost peed yourself when you ran into the neighbor lady. It was a coincidence, you didn’t know she’d be standing right in front of the entryway as you opened the door to leave for school, and she didn’t know you’d scream right in her face. Long story short, after you screamed, and she screamed, and Jun scolded you; she gave you some lemon meringues. The reason she was at your house. They were so delicious, you’d become fond of her.
Jun had been dropping you off to school these days. It was cute at first, until you realized all he would talk about was his favorite Alfred Hitchcock movies. Since almost all of them made you fall asleep, you weren’t exactly a fan. You didn’t heed to anything as soon as you caught other voices though, most likely students indicating the school building was near, so you booked it. Registering him running after you with a ‘Hey wait up’, you dashed into the gates and onto the platform leading inside the school. You were going to ignore him the whole way, but you had to feel guilt-ridden and twirled about to see him waving goodbye. Smiling, you return the gesture only to regret it as soon as he shouts
“Have a good day! I love you princess!”
-at the top of his lungs. That’s it. You were going to kill him. Spotting some students staring at you, the source of the weird old guy yelling, you sprint into the building with a muffled scream.
That was yesterday, and sadly he’s still alive and well.
Today was your officially your first church visit, hopefully to become a certified member of FallHaven Baptist Church. For some cause, you couldn’t deny you were nervous; the church had a bit of an intimidating exterior. Well at least you’d finally get to buy new shoes for school.
Speaking of school, you had made friends! Or well, Candance and ‘a’ friend. Her name was Jasmine, and she was the nicest red head, a complete package of glasses and freckles. She came over to ask if you were okay when you had a terrible headache on Wednesday. Afterwards you noticed her in a few other periods, which wouldn’t be odd considering there are 60 kids in senior year. Jasmine joined you and Candance for lunch since then. Maybe you’re becoming a bit too attached to both too quickly, fault of only your own social awkwardness. But you knew they’re both great people, as well as members of today’s church.
You feel guilty for even thinking this, but you hadn’t had a run-in Jimin around after the strange incident on Monday. Sometimes you’d spot him talking to a pretty girl in the back of the class. Or well, she would talk, sitting right on his lap while he looked out through the window. His guard would stand behind him without an expression and you found yourself growing even more interested in his world. It’s not that you had feelings for him, you knew yourself and that was impossible. You tried but you couldn’t get Jimin out of your head…or that look in his eye. His aura was magnetic, and you were drawn to him by an invisible force. Is Jimin also a member of the church? He must be, everyone else is. Then again Jimin wasn’t like anybody else, not with those enflamed locks and sharp abyss eyes.
Knock Knock
You break from your thoughts as your door speaks, “Heyyy~ you up? We’ve got to leave in an hour” Jun hums in a hype tone.
Listening to the tune in his voice reminds you of Monday night, how you were swept in his large arms and you could smell his soft oceanic scent – rosemary and a hint of musk from his burdens lingering his neckline. His uncovered skin was on your lips, your torso swallowed by his. You turn a bright red, clenching the sheets around your fingers before you choke a shout
“I’ll be out in a minute”
“Alright, breakfast is on the table” He responds and finishes walking away. Taking a huge sigh, you wake yourself by smacking your cheeks, swinging your legs off the bed and stretching your rigid physique. It’s going to be a long day.
The walk to the Church was a good 20 minutes. Jun had insisted today, no matter how many times you begged him not to, to conversate about how Casablanca was the greatest movie in American cinema. You didn’t know why he knew every character’s name by hand, but that was another mystery of the Fabulous Jun. Letting him talk to his fulfillment was the best option, sighting how he sulked the tiniest every time you interrupted him.
By now, it should be obvious that Jun doesn’t have a car. Ironic, seeing where he works. It’s another reason why you moved here, everything was meters from each other. The town’s population was about 2100 folks from what Uncle Alp told you, and that number seemed so miniscule compared to the busy city. You think Jun was the most excited to move here, he was never much of a people’s person and the somber skies, reticent road gave him comfort. Your poor lone wolf.
“And that’s why Rick doesn’t believe in god”
“…Wait, what?” You turn to stare at him, the sentence your ear caught far more interesting than the pebble you were kicking with your feet.
“Weren’t you listening? I was just explaining the bane of existence Rick Blaine has to deal with!”
“Jun, we’re literally walking to church, would you please knock it off with the jokes?”
“Come on” He winks, “We’re going to be Christians in a good hour, can’t I have my fun while it lasts”
You roll your eyes to hide a smirk, ready to leave him behind once again when you spot huge white gate tubes from the corner of your eyes.
As you come face to face with the front gate, you stare at the gigantic structure known as the church. The white bricked building made the holy edifice seem even holier. The place was built like a palace, complete with a royal entrance pathway you walk through with Jun. Each side of the pathway had an endless field of grass, containing some of the most colorful flowers on earth.
“Not bad” He whispers
As you walk up to the building, you notice the gray bell tower on the right side of the roof. You wonder which lucky fellow gets to ring that bell. Once you get inside though, is when even Jun becomes speechless.
The interior stretches for a mile, the chapel big enough to seat the whole town. A warm aroma sifts through the wood of the benches, and you feel like you can stay in this golden-lit room forever. Stained glass was at every corner of the room, letting through the light the images wished. At the altar resided a large organ piano, candles decorating the pillars of the organs, burning an intense flame for it’s visitors. Above the piano stood the crucified Jesus, the pain sculptured on his face an intimidating reminder for anyone that comes across the his eyes. The chapel seemed decorated. White flowers adorned the benches of the sanctuary, and people seemed to be polishing the walls. A set of people were on a ladder, pulling up a decorative banner. You spot Joan at the right side of the room, by a small statue of Mary, chatting with 2 strangers that seemed to be closely heeding her words.
“Joan,” Jun calls out to her, and when she turns to him, he waves. She says her farewell to the strangers and comes your way. You wish there was someone else who could show you around, but alas luck was not on your side.
“Welcome, we have been patiently awaiting your arrival” Joan smiles, walking up to you with her hands held together
“Are the preparations for us? You shouldn’t have!” Jun jokes
Joan gives him a swift gaudy chortle, making you squint. That bad gag sure made her happy. Actually, everything seems to make her happy.
“We are getting ready for the arrival of one of our most cherished facility members. He will be attending our sermon tomorrow, you two have arrived on a marvelous period for the town” She gleams
“He sounds like someone special…has he been gone somewhere?” You question
“Yes, he has been lending a hand to the victims of the tragedy in Samaria in the beginning of the month…he has currently completed his concerns on the town and is returning home. His family is holding a ceremony for him tomorrow to reward his efforts”
You and Jun offer sympathetic glances.
The fire in Samaria had been circulating on television for weeks. In the beginning of the month, a local well-loved priest in the small town of Samaria had shut in worshippers during mass and torched the statue of Jesus on the cross in the front of the altar. 300 lives suffered grave deaths, including his own. It was said spectators could hear the vibration of children screaming through the blaze from a hundred miles around, as firefighters tried to tear down the bolted doors. Not a single survivor.
“We would love to be here tomorrow,” Jun smiles
“And we would love to have you. Now please come this way,” She extends her arm toward the inner hall on the right, “Our Archbishop is quite excited to meet you”
You follow Joan along the hall, her heel’s clacking echoing around the assembly of the broad interior. The ceiling was caved outward and dispersed among the hallway to the very end. It was the biggest building you had ever been inside, and your neck ached as you pressured your marveled gaze upon everything. The church had a dim, golden color and you walked along indoor pillars; each pillar encompassing a soft light fixture and a holy cross. Every column had a large brown door.
“Um, Joan, I read on your brochure this place has a confessional? As far as I know New Testament Christians don’t believe in the confessional method.” You see Jun’s expression out of the corner of your eye at your question. He was dazzled at your knowledge. Heh, how insulting.
“You are absolutely right, ___” She turns her head a bit and you spot her pleasant expression beyond her blonde tresses, “Actually, we are the only place of worship for many for around a thousand miles. This Church is also famous for its beauty. Everyone becomes enraptured with it, like you have,” She laughs as you blush. When did she catch you in amazement? “Members of our family come from far and wide to seek refuge in our humble Church, and therefore to ease their souls, we offer a great many sources for all kinds of our relatives. Including Protestants and Evangelist. We also offer everyone a place at the Holy Communion, baptized or not .”
“That’s…amazing. And so kind.” You awe. This was great, I mean you still wanted to be baptized along with Jun. New beginnings and all, but it’s great that you’re Church is so open hearted.
“Are there any problems because of this? Like do any leaders from those other tribes get upset?” Jun casually ponders, while you elbow him for asking something so insensitive…and did he just call them tribes?
“Au contrair!” Joan giggles, “We have the Vatican’s blessing, and many devout religious leaders visit our Church with boundless respect” She stops and turns her body toward the right side of the hallway, while you both have a clear view of her face. She smiles way too much. “So yes, our “tribes” get along well”
“Sorry, didn’t mean to be rude” Jun mutters, scratching the back of his head
“Oh no, I didn’t take your words for offense, Jun” Joan steps closer to the wall, hidden from your sight by a pillar “This is our Archbishop’s office” She knocks on what you believe is a door.
You hold your breath as the door glides open, the slight creaking at the hinges relaying it’s ancient age.
Out steps a sharply dressed tall old man. He embodied a tan-colored suit, edges ironed to perfection and not a fringe out of place in his off white head of hair, combed perfectly neat to the right. There was a handkerchief poking out from his front pocket and a brown bow tie adorning his collar. You couldn’t recognize any signs of fatigue and barely that of aging. The facial format of his appearance communicated passion and vigor, the wrinkles around his clear coffee eyes were soft and fresh, while the lines of his mouth were welcoming. Nothing but his hair gave away his age, not even a sun spot adorned his porcelain skin. He had the same stretchy smile on his features like Joan.
“Are these two beautiful souls our new neighbors?” He spoke in a harmonious tone of voice. You could sift the aura of a dominant charisma emitting from his stature from every word.
“Yes, they are!” Joan replies, “They want to become members of our Church, isn’t that wonderful, Robert? This is Robert,” She directs her words at Jun, “the Archbishop and eldest head of our Church”
They both stare at you, practically illuminating holy lights out of their asses, temporarily blinding you and Jun.
“Yeah, It’s nice to meet you, sir” Jun steps up and held out his hand; which the pastor, who you notice is taller than Jun, encompasses in both his palms, for an extra friendly greeting “My name is Jun and this is my sister, we just moved here last week, looking forward to joining your lovely Church, if you’d let us”
“This Church is open to any soul submitting himself to God” Robert speaks, rubbing Jun’s hand with both of his own, to which Jun uncomfortably laughs
“And you” He turns to you as you slightly startle, “Are you willing to submit your being to the high and mighty, little lamb?” He lets go of Jun’s hand and faces you. As do Jun and Joan, which irks the anti-attention personality in you.
“Um yes, I’m ___” You offer him your hand, which is easily taken in both of his own again. You immediately feel his warmth traveling through your arm from contact of his fingers, as he glides it over your casing delicately. It was as if he was a furnace. Goosebumps arrive on the affected area of the skin.
He pauses just a bit suddenly, and you watch his eyes open a bit further through his big smile, the corner of his lip turning downward. The chocolate of his iris had become darkened until it was an endless black, staring through your outer layers. You felt naked even with your clothes on, and it frightened you so you slowly pull your hand back. Trying not to make a rash movement.
Yet as soon as it came, it was gone.
He pulled your hand towards him again, and the blank gaze had dissolved into the familiar sweet caramel expression – not giving you a chance to react. You look at Jun and his relaxed expression, neither of the other two noticed your discomfort. Which was rare for Jun.
“Joan, You’ve done right by bringing these two here. I can tell they’ll fit right in and bring much fortune! You both are official FallHaven Baptist Church members”
“Oh wonderful!” Joan claps in celebration
Robert puts his arms in the air, his fingers and head raised towards the sky, “I can feel it already, the lord sending a message through me.” You stay still and watch as Joan immediately pulls out a wooden cross from underneath her blouse, bringing it up to her lips and chanting something under her breath. Jun takes a step back.
“He wants me to do it as soon as possible, he wants it done immediately. Yes Lord! For I am your humble servant! You both,” He turns back to you, “Will be baptized at tomorrows communion! Praise the Lord!”
“Amen!” Joan shouts, a bit out of breath and you notice how much her pupils dilated.
“Alright then boy,” He lets go of holding you under his intense gaze and rotates to Jun while you discreetly rub at your hand through your extra-long sleeves.
“Why don’t you and I have a little chat about some grown up stuff, while Joan gives a sort of tour of our holy house to the little lamb here” He puts his hand on your shoulder to refer to you and you stiffen immediately
“Sounds good” Jun raises a eyebrow at you “You alright with that?”
Alone with Joan?
“…Yes”
“Oh small one,” Robert slightly rubs his thumb around the back of your shoulder, “You’ve done so well by accepting Jesus. No longer will you grieve alone, for he will be by your side. He’s made it clear to you, he has!”
“I will not cause pain without allowing something new to be born, says the Lord! And that’s you!” He raises his finger into your face, his voice dominating through the walls of the hallway, echoing off the corners of the roof “You’re born again!”
“You’re free from your suffering!”
_
Walking down the left hallway on the second floor, you marvel at the glass ceiling, the cloudless sky letting in all the wonders of the world. Through the golden hues, you watch as Joan struts in front of you in the glittering hallway, occasionally detailing the authenticity of paintings and figurines decorating each side of the walls. So far, you’ve had the pleasure of seeing the study, the confessional also known as the reconciliation room, and the bell tower.
She displayed the charisma and pride of an honest church member. Bragging about many key aspects the large shelter provided. In total, the cathedral could serve up to 2000 worshippers at a time. It wasn’t the Jubilee, but it was still an amazing feat.
There were a few things you had learned already. The youth bible study met up twice a week after school. Classes for certain instruments and vocal lessons were also available. You signed the roster immediately after seeing the name of the person that led the group. Sunday mass lasts an hour after sunrise, led by the Archbishop and called for by the large bell tower. For those who miss it, there’s a make-up held by one of the priests and a deacon in the evenings. On Easter, mass lasts 3 hours with additional services including altar calls and extra hymns led by the youth group. It was so surreal, you were now actually apart of a community and you were going to do things with them…like a family does. For so long, it’s been just you and Jun. Speaking of him, you muse on how touchy he’ll get at you coming home late, or how cranky he’ll be in the early mornings for mass.
You let out a soft chuckle imagining his furrowed eyebrow, and the corners of his mouth flipped downside in a strong pout. Joan steps up to a door and you follow close behind, she pushes it open and turns to you.
“This is our Biblical library! The 4th largest in the world!” She pleasantly brags about the brightly lit room, where you have to keep your jaw from dropping. It finally made sense as to why this church was as big as it was.
Your eyes glaze over the giant cherry wood shelves, towering over the lax white chamber, straining your neck to the clouds. They pushed on for miles, one shelf after the other harboring hundreds of books. It was a bit intimidating. There were tables containing a few busy bodies lingering the maroon carpet in the front, and everything was vast and silent. At the front desk, there was a lady with a pointy nose which her bifocals rested upon, reading a blank brown covered book and whispering to herself inaudibly. She covered herself from head to toe with a black veil wrapped around her figure, a tunic like dress connected to a bib at the neck-line. A nun.
“Sister Haggith” Joan leans in to whisper to you, “She oversees the library and everything that comes with such a task. She knows every nook and cranny of this place, including each book and it’s location. Sister Haggith is an amazing woman, and another trusted member of the board”
“Wow” You gasp, “Is she from the monastery?”
“Yes, she has been with us for 21 years. Actually quite a few of our sisters have work around town. Have you gotten the chance to visit your school’s infirmary?”
“No, not yet. But I’ll be sure to check it out,” you tell her and she replies with a smile.
In the corner of the room, one of the clear glass cases catch your eye. Inside the display case was a worn out piece of khaki paper, looking about 100 years old. The paper was thin and fragile, torn the slightest at each of the ends. There was something written in shrill black ink, but you were too far away for it to be anything but blurry.
“Um, may I ask about that?” You shyly point at your object of interest and Joan follows your line of sight.
“Oh!” She chirps “The scripture of Nathanael”
When you give her a confused look, she leads you toward the stand with a ‘come with me’. Next to the display case were a few other ones, containing more ancient objects. Another that caught your eye was an extremely rusted dagger.
You examine the tabloid carefully, now that you were closer, you could easily read the paper. Or not? The writing wasn’t in English.
“What does it say?”
“It’s in Hebrew” Joan answers, “It was given to us by an angel from the heavens. He identified himself as Nathanael”
She bends down and reads a sentence off the paper, “thy fate lies in the conscious of thy choices; of thy wilt to serve the mighty”
Immediately your mind rushes toward what Candance had told you; about the tower and the famine and the ‘great warning.’
“It’s true” you accidently whisper out loud
“So, you have been enlightened?” Joan asks
“Yeah…I think…” You grin awkwardly
“There is no need to worry, there’s quite a few fables made about the tower” Joan giggles, “The reality is simple though. 120 years ago, our town was made up of devout Christians, filled to the brim with their love for our father.” She looks toward the ceiling happily, “They were refugees of the south, unbinding from their laws and wars, seeking a place to start over. However, we were new to this land. We settled into it’s foundation in the beginning of that year.” Her tone suddenly deepens and she slowly brings her head back down, “And you see, sometimes foundations become barren. Sometimes they crack. Then comes the drought”
For the first time you see Joan frown. That one word has her staring deep off into space, no longer a silver of light in her eyes. She stands there, glaring a hole through the white wall, and time slows around you both as you shift uncomfortably at the heavy atmosphere. You much rather have her creepily smiling.
“The drought” she whispers “That summer, the heat…the sounds of battle cries over the horizon…so endless, so suffocating. Oh how bad the drought was” she closes her eyelids as she shivers slightly. “We prayed and prayed and prayed for the bad drought to go away, on our knees till they bled, till our mouths were dry and our eyes felt that they would fall off. Oh bad drought go away, Oh Lord save us! And it happened” She raises her arms up into the air and open her eyes with one sudden motion, as you watch with astonishment
“Just like he promised! A miracle, a great mercy! He came down to us, he saved our damned souls!” the corners of her eyes well up, as she breathes heavily into the air practically yelling each syllable, “We-
“Joan!”
You both jump as a stern voice interrupts the silence of your small corner. There you spot Sister Haggith, quiet and still, her intimidating aura making you feel small. She appeared out of nowhere.
“You are being too loud, child. Shall I remind you of what a library is?” She speaks, staring through Joan as someone insignificant and you can feel the lady beside you straighten herself.
“Y-you are correct. I am so sorry” she takes a handkerchief out of her blazer’s breast pocket. She dabs sweat from her forehead with her fabric and turns to you. You notice how dilated her pupils are again, and you find yourself worrying for her.
“I-I am sorry, the moral of the story is that angel Nathanael saved us from the drought and laid down ground rules, which are written in the scripture. Alright, we should get on our way,” Grabbing your arm, she commences to walk away from the displays, around the woman who hadn’t moved an inch and toward the large doors as you wince.
You make a grunt of disapproval which has her peeking back and letting go of your arm. As you both step out of the library onto the foyer of the hallway, she treads quietly in front of you, until you both are once again in the chapel.
She turns around, and looks at you with apology.
“I am sorry, once again for my behavior. I get deep into my feelings about our lord, but a library is no place to behave that way.”
“No, I didn’t…think anything…”
“Is your wrist alright?” She questions suddenly
“Um-what…”
“You seemed like you were in pain when I held your arm,”
“Oh yeah,” You bring your arms up and pull down your sleeve to revel a thin layer of bandage around your wrist.
“My goodness,” Says a shocked Joan
“Oh no! It’s not what you think! Jun is just easily suggestible, and it’s just on until the bruise vanishes”
“Bruise?” She says, even more worried than before
“No – I mean yes, I ran into a small accident, but it’s no big deal really!” You flail your arms around in denial, trying desperately to mend her concern
“There you are!” A familiar jolly voice interjects you
“Robert!”
“Jun!”
You both shout in unison, a wave of relief unapologetically obvious in your voices.
“You ladies have a grand time?” Robert asks as he walks up to you and Jun trails behind with a wide grin
“Just wonderful” Joan answers, her blinding smile re-embellished on her features
“It was great, I learned a lot” You reply, taking a peek at Jun and his suggestive expression. He was holding in a laugh.
“Now that’s what I like to hear ‘round here!” Robert laughs out loud, “Me on the other hand loves this goofy fella” He pats Jun on the back
Jun jokes back at the senior, “Not as much as we love Thanksgiving dinner” he winks
You pale at the horrendous joke, while Robert cackles louder and pats Jun harder as he holds his abdomens with his other arm, seemingly in better spirits than in the morning. Joan covers her mouth and lets out a tiny giggle as well, while you make a strange ‘ha ha’ sound.
“See, see, what I tell ya, he’s goofy!”
Jun looks at you with accomplishment while you subtly roll your eyes at his ‘charm act.
“Alright then, I’ll see you both here in the early morning! Your baptism will be right in front of the chapel, after the service!” Robert informs you
The four of you exchange a few other pleasantries, and before you know it you’re on your way home with a slushy and a new pair of shoes in your hand.
“I didn’t know there were so many cake varieties before!” You chirp, marveling at the cake shop you had stopped by in the mall.
“Well I for one, am excited to try out this new electric hand mixer” Jun takes out a box from his shopping bag of said item, “Always wanted one of these”
“$4 bucks says you break on the third try” You squint your eyes, teasing the tall boy next to you
“And where will you get that money?” He asks as a matter of fact, making you ‘hmph’ in return
“…Do you like the church?” Jun questions
“…I do” You return, looking at his expression for something hidden. You just could never tell what he was thinking.
He smiles, “Robert’s quite the character, huh?”
“Yeah, Robert’s…something”
As you’re discerning, you make a turn at the intersection just to trip over one of your shoes and fall onto the pavement. Thank god your drink was almost empty, you think as the slushy falls by your side. You catch your body on your hand and knees as your bag slips out of your hand and into the ditch on the side of the sidewalk. Jun shouts your name as he bends down to check on you and you let out a curse watching the bag roll down the patchy green hill, toward the canal. Quickly, you get up and run after it while Jun runs after you, still yelling your name and telling you to stop.
Before your bag goes anywhere near the water, a long silhouette halts the object and picks it up with one hand. When you get closer you recognize the figure to be a young man, wearing a white suit. Your running ends and you stand a feet away from him, when he turns to look at you, taking away your breath for a good minute.
In the serenity of that afternoon, when the sun was at it’s highest and the nightingale sprung it’s chorus; the water reflected the colors of the rainbow and the winds softly whispered through your body, you met an angel.
“Hi, I’m Namjoon. Is this yours?”
He hands you the bag you had already long forgotten about. You stare at him, as motionless as a feather while you watch his face turn to one of confusion.
“Yup, that’s hers! Thanks man!” Jun breaks you out of your daze as he takes the bag from his fingers.
“Um, yes. Thank you so much!” You splutter, embarrassed
“It’s nothing” He smiles and your jaw drops open
Dimples.
“Bye the way, you took quite a fall back there. Are you alright?” He asks
When you fail to answer, Jun nudges you, breaking you out of your daze for a second time.
“M-more than! I don’t feel any pai-ow!” You grab your wrist and remember your injury. It feels suggestively worse than when you first got it. It couldn’t be that you sprained it…could it.
“Shit, I knew it was just a matter of time!” Jun shouts, grabbing your wrist to take a look himself
“Owwww, don’t pull it!” You whine tugging your arm back
You play tug of war for a bit, before you feel someone else gently grab your wrist and you both freeze. Namjoon opens your sleeve, and places his fingers on your wrist. He delicately presses down a few times,
“Does it hurt?”
“No,” and it didn’t. All the pain had evaporated just like that while a strong warmth spreads in place of any discomfort. Namjoon concentrates on your bandage, and it appears as if he could see through it, which makes you subconsciously draw your arm back. He couldn’t notice it, could he. While you stare at him, Jun’s head awkwardly angled to the side slides into the corner of your eye.
“I’m glad, must’ve been temporary” Namjoon says, releasing your hand and backing away, “Are you both new in town?”
“Yes, we just moved in a week ago!” Jun responds
“And how do you like my town?” He asks, putting his hands in his pockets.
“It’s been well, the house is old so adjusting’s a bit tough but we’ll get the hang of it”
“Where did you both move in from?”
“One of the inner cities from the north”
Namjoon becomes silent. “The one where they…uh…I-I’m sorry”
“It’s no big deal” Jun thwarts his worry, “Everyone’s reaction is the same, so we keep it hush-hush, but yeah”
“We’re town-folk now” You add
Both men look at you for a moment before they laugh.
“That’s right” Jun says through a gummy smile
“Of course,” Namjoon pipes in with his dimples
“We should get going, I need to make a few arrangements,” Jun shakes Namjoon’s hand as they exchange names, “See you around Namjoon? At the pub maybe?”
“Maybe, but not there,” Namjoon chuckles, “I’m still in school”
You and Jun look like a fish out of the water. I mean, he looks so mature? So wise? Which high schooler could be this angelic?
“So maybe I’ll see you around” He winks at you
You feel your legs give out but you hold still to not further your humiliation “H-how-”
“Every kid at FallHaven high wears those” He points at your shoes “Which grade are you in”
“S-senior year”
“Me too! Hopefully we’ll be class buddies”
“But I haven’t seen you around before?” You say
“I’ve been on a trip, just returned today. Monday will be my first day back”
“Wow! This is so cool cause she doesn’t have a lot of friends but you look like a popular guy, Namjoon! Take care of her! Hey come on over after class sometime and I’ll make you my famous choco-“
“Let’s go!” You push a rambling Jun, red-faced at his blabbering
“Wait, I’m just talking to the nice young ma-”
“Jun, we’re leaving!” you shout at the older boy
“B-bye, see you at school” You shyly shout back at Namjoon through the idiot’s screeching. Blushing harder when he waves a goodbye with an amused expression
As he leaves your view, you thought you spotted someone running up to his side, but maybe you were mistaken.
“I like him!”
“I get it Jun, you’ve said it a hundred times” You giggle at the child-like expression on his face. As you take one step after the other, almost at your house, Jun wouldn’t stop talking about the encounter with Namjoon. You liked him too. He was such a gentleman, so much class. School was going to get so much more interesting. Wait…Why was everyone at your school so good-looking. What’s up with that. How’re you going to survive being surrounded by hot people? Especially that one guy,
“Jimin”
“Who?”
It takes you a second to figure out you’ve said his name out loud, and when you take your eyes off the ground, Jun is glaring a hole right through your face.
“W-what?”
“Who’s Jimin” He questions with his breath in your face
“Nothing, go away” You avoid him
“First you’re a blushing mess in front of Namjoon, and now you’re whispering a name of a boy I never heard about?”
“I-I wasn-”
“I guess it’s time to tell you this” He looks ahead suddenly, his features hardened and serious
You watch him breathe through his nose, and blink slowly and you find yourself becoming nervous “Tell me w-what”
“The moment has come” He stops walking as your right in front of your house and puts all his focus on you, which in return makes you gulp.
“Princess…” the wind picks up and you gaze at him with goosebumps on your skin
“When a man and woman fall in love, sometimes they get these urges to become one, now what those are-”
“Say one more word and you won’t be able to pee standing up again”
_
You were making your bed after setting up the alarm clock Jun had bought you. It was time to sleep for tomorrow’s big day and your teeth were chattering just thinking about it. That and it was really cold inside the house. Uncle Alp had told Jun he would talk to some guy he knows, but so far you haven’t heard anything further. Hopefully it would be fixed by the end of next week. You don’t know how many more nights you’ll have to survive sweating through your house in the middle of the day and becoming a frozen statue on your bed at night.
In the mall, before you had lunch, Jun reminded you a hundred times to get a heater, but guess who forgot. Honestly you did it on purpose so he’d take you shopping again, but he doesn’t need to know that. What you didn’t like about today was Joan calling Jun by his name. I mean, adults call each other Mr. last name unless they’re close, right? Especially respectful ones like ‘Joan’ but here she was “hahaha Jun this hahaha Jun that.’ Ok, maybe you were being a bit mean. You felt really bad when Joan got yelled at by that elder lady. There is something about the old people in this town that freaks you out. Learning more about the town was a good thing. You were gonna revisit that Scripture and see what else you can find out about FallHaven. At least there’s no cannibalism.
You walk by your closet and take off your dress. It was when you were changing into your pajamas that you notice your wrist. The bandage was still wrapped around it but it didn’t hurt. It hadn’t hurt all day. Curious, you remove the tape and unwind the white ribbons off your wrist. Your heart beats a bit louder as it clears itself off your skin.
You let out a gasp.
Smooth, clean, no signs of staining or any discoloration. Twisting your wrist around, you decide to give it a flick. And still, no pain, no ache.
This morning, you had opened up the bandage to find a light purple bruise. Then just a few hours later…it vanished? Something wasn’t adding up. You recall how the pain had disappeared when Namjoon had touched it. Could he have somehow healed you?
Did people like that exist?
But then again. Those marks were still there. The reminders of your hell still scarred into your vision. If he had healing abilities…wouldn’t he have healed these? Definitely. So he’s not a healer, just a very good-looking boy. But then…where’s your bruise?
Argh, it was giving you a headache. Either way you won’t need this stupid bandage anymore, you think as you stand up and throw it in the dust bin. Shutting your door closed, and lights off, you cheerily skip onto your bedside and jump onto the springy mattress. Lying in bed and wrapping the covers around yourself tightly, you close your eyes in hopes to doze off into a new bright and sunny day. Today was over, and you and Jun were safe. In the end that’s all that mattered.
_
Bzzz Bzzz
It’s fully dark when you regain conscious and there’s something light knocking into your face. With your eyes closed in discomfort you swat away at whatever’s bothering your slumber.
Bzzz Bzzz
You sigh, as you fan yourself. Why was it so hot? Did Jun get the heat to work again? You kick off your covers, but then realize that there’s nothing to kick off. There was nothing covering your body but your pajamas.
Bzzz Bzzz
“Fuck” You sit up in your pitch black room. Turning to check the time, you spot 2:57 on your clock. That’s when you see a little black dot fly into your view, and you work quickly to stamp your hands together. It works because you feel something between your palms. Hesitant to let go, you move your arms away from you and open them up.
“Ew what the-”
You say at the sticky black goo encasing both your palms. Examining in through the moonlight, you stare at the icky gunk on your hand as the curtain from the window brushes your shoulder.
Wait, what?
You whip your head toward the missing glass above your bed in horror. Why was your window open?
Who opened it?
Before you know it, you’re breathing heavily and you turn around into your dark room once again. The quiet no longer giving you a sense of calm, instead replaced with the terror of reality. Someone broke into your room, the alarms go off in your head, and your sense of rationality goes flying out the open window. It’s dark, but you can make out most of the furniture in your room. And that’s where you see it.
In the corner of your room, by your dresser stands a long, bulky dark shadow, the recognition had you tightening your fingers on your sheets.
At this point your hyper ventilating as tears stream down your face.
“W-who” Is all you manage to make out, closing in on yourself to protect your body from any potential harm.
Bzzz Bzzz
There’s a minute that goes by before the shadow moves closer, and this time there’s buzzing surrounding you. You look around the room and it’s filled with tiny black spots rummaging the shadows, you choke on your sobs, as the buzzing grows louder. One of the black dots land right on your hand. The moonlight exposing the common fly. Yet there was something off about it. You shoo it off, covering your ears with your hands, you shut your eyes tight as you fall over, face first onto the bed; trying to drown out this nightmare. Every second the buzzing becomes louder and unbearable and you feel the shadow right on your back.
Then it stops.
No buzzing
No shadow
No flies
You peek out from your hands staring at the spot once occupied by the thing when you feel something brush your ear
“Don’t be scared”
A deep, gruff voice is all you hear before your back is being plowed open by what seems like a claw. You scream out at the feeling of your skin being ripped open on your back. Something attaches itself to your spine as you cough out blood in the middle of your deafening shrieks. Writhing on bed as the shadow holds you down, you scream and whimper out your lungs. Flies cover your face and drown out your own ears until you can only hear your internal damnation. Years of deeply buried memories come swelling up, and you claw at your mattress for some sanity.
You feel every rip and tear of flesh, every drop of blood pour from your back, every nail of the claw digging into the deepest corners of your body,
and in that moment, you wish for death.
You wake up with a loud gasp, as tears stream down your face. Turning your eyes at every inch of your room, your hands rapidly move across your body. There’s no blood, no opening, no trace of any violence. Turning to face the window, you find it shut and barren. Shivers run up your body from the cold room. Which calms you down the slightest. Sweat pours through you like an open drain, your pores still living in your nightmare. You check your clock, the 3:00 am glares back at you in bold red. A dream.
Just a dream. You slow your heavy breathing wrapping your arms around your torso, yet there’s no end in sight for your tears.
You’re about to calm down when you feel it. There’s bile crawling up your throat, you’re aware of the suffocating substance littering your esophagus. Falling out of bed, you crawl your way out of the room. You drag your body with your hands, barely making it over the toilet. It doesn’t take long – just one groan and you’re disgorging today’s contents into the toilet bowl. Everything’s chaotic and wet, saliva attaching the last bit of your vomit to your mouth. Coughing out the last fillings of your insides, you spit into the putrid bowl, before flushing away any trace of retch. Grunting, you crawl back towards your room, there’s absolutely no sensation in your legs. You tremble as you make your way back into your mattress, pulling up the blankets on your sore limbs.
It was just a dream. You aren’t gonna tell Jun because it’s over. It was a dream. Some hellish nightmare born from the uneasiness of your past traumas and changes you aren’t comfortable with. You’re safe. There’s no shadow, there’s no monster. Dad’s not here. Jun doesn’t need to worry because of you. It’s over.
You shake like that for another hour or two, it feels like someone is smashing a hammer into the side of your skull, before you somehow pass out on your bed.
a/n: lol hi, Me for the first time in about 10 billion years. I kind of hate this Chapter?? But I’ll put the next part up tomorrow which should be better :-)
Chapter 1
Chapter 2
Chapter 3
As the autumn colours became deeper and the summer temperatures began to fade, you began to feel as though you were dragging yourself through each day, the thought of your plush duvet at the end of it keeping you motivated. Luckily enough though, it wasn’t just you who the changing seasons effected, and your friends were also beginning to look a little more disheveled with each morning that passed by, and it soon became clear that everyone was desperately in need of a break from the school routine. By the final week of term, motivation to even get out of bed each morning was severely lacking, and it seemed to be the same for Ben. Some mornings the pair of you didn’t even have the energy to speak, still content in each others company though, leaning on each other when you finally flopped down on the tram’s plastic seats.
You hadn’t forgotten that you were supposed to be coordinating your friend’s costumes for the mysterious Halloween party you knew very little about, but it definitely wasn’t your top priority- especially since your workload in and out of school had increased rapidly only a few weeks after the start of the new term. Since the gathering was set to take place on Friday, it was Tuesday that you figured you had to at least start thinking about how terrible you wanted your four closest friends to look. After a few hours of careful consideration and research you found yourself rather impressed with what you had come up with. If they wanted a group costume, a group costume they were going to get. It was perfect, inducing childhood nostalgia and characters which seemed to parallel your friends personalities, the five of you were going as none other than the Scooby-Doo gang. You couldn’t help but feel at least a bit proud of your master plan, but decided to keep it under wraps, just to add to the suspense. You spent the rest of that night drawing out meticulous plans, giving yourself Thursday and Friday to finish them. Out of instinct however you left the next day free, knowing that it was highly likely you would be spending the evening out somewhere to celebrate the beginning of the short break from school.
As he had done for the past five weeks or so, Ben had waited patiently outside your house for you to stumble out the front door, usually looking a little disheveled. Believe it or not, this was one of the things he had begun to admire most about you, little to your knowledge. The fact that your hair sometimes fell across your face, still messy from the previous nights sleep, and more often than not you would have acrylic paint splodged over you like some form of radioactive dalmatian. Both of these were the little things Ben had started to pay more and more attention to, and he couldn’t help but find himself smile whenever he thought of you.
“Last day of your first half term then Benny boy” you spoke with a grin. “Ready to go back down South yet or can you handle a little more of this?”
He couldn’t help but let out a laugh, “I think I’ll cope y’know, maybe a little longer, might even make it to Christmas!”
“You bloody better Jones! otherwise I’ll have no reason to even leave the house in the morning, then I’ll drop out of school, adopt a load of cats and drink cheap wine every day because I never got any a levels.”
“What a pity that would be” He retorted, with blatant sarcasm. You rolled your eyes and gave a gentle shove before the pair of you continued the walk to the tram stop in a content silence.
Eventually, you made your way onto a tram and flopped down on each other. You closed your eyes, enjoying the warmth of the autumn sun and found yourself dozing a little, this didn’t last long however.
Ben flicked your cheek before he spoke, “y/n, wake up you big loser, what are we doing after school?”
“I was wondering how long it would be before you asked, I don’t really care though. Won’t it just be easier to wait till the others get on and ask them?”
“We’re seeing them on Friday though, and Saturday I guess, and probably most of next week too”
“You have a most interesting way of thinking Jonsey. But you’re not wrong. What are you suggesting?” You spoke, followed by a smirk, “Won’t you be seeing me today, tomorrow, the day after that and next week however?”
“Shutup and come to mine tonight okay? We can have a takeaway from wherever you want and we can make up shitty excuses as to why we can’t do anything with the others because right now I can’t really be bothered with anyone else.”
You felt a little taken aback, but unsure as to why. Ben had spoken with a twinge of emotion in his voice, and suddenly seemed a little wound up- most out of character.
“Alright. You got me, but only if we’re having a chinese?
“Suits me”, he spoke with a smile, seeming somewhat relieved, before you both sank into each other in the seats. Even making the cold plastic seem a little more comfortable.
School has been productive. Well, as productive as you could have made it given that you only had some art coursework to finish and given that Ben’s sudden decision that he didn’t want to see anyone else that evening was playing on your mind. You had scrubbed the last of the dried acrylic paint off the battered brushes you had kept for god knows how long and were about to put them back into your bag before being interrupted by the lunch bell. Figuring you should reconvene with Maria and Niamh, you began to head towards the common room so that you could grab some lunch before heading to the library for the rest of the afternoon.
“y/n! hello? care to join us here on planet earth?” Niamh waved a hand in front of you, you had forgotten about your mediocre salad and had started daydreaming mid-conversation.
“shit yeah, sorry, just tired, i was sorting out the outfits for friday until like 2 this morning or something like that”
Maria chimed in too at mention of Friday, “oh yeah! the costumes, I’d forgotten about those, they’d better be-“
You felt your phone buzz in your pocket, undoubtedly your mum checking if you were staying in school or leaving after lunch. “One sec, let me just check this”
Benny:
Call me when you can. i’m going home.
You couldn’t help but wonder whad gotten into the boy, shocked by the sudden character change, you figured this was your call to leave and find out what the hell was going on with Ben. Now all you needed was an excuse to leave.
“Shit, sorry, erm… it’s my mum…she’s locked herself out and needs me to let her back into the house…” You scrambled to pack your bag and put your blazer back on “duty calls… I’ll see you on Friday night yeah?” You signed out at student services and began to walk towards the met stop.
benny: incoming call
“Ben what the hell are you playing at? where the fuck are you?” You heard the frustration in your own voice and couldn’t help but regret it.
“Why do you sound like your running a marathon?” Because I’m speed walking like a lunatic to come and find you thank you. “I’m nearly at the tram stop.”
“Right, ok… wait for me… I’m nearly there”
“see you then.” He hung up.
You continued the walk, thoughts racing, surely someone had just said something to wind him up? Nothing worth overthinking really? You eventually found Ben after what seemed like an eternity of walking and he stank of smoke, he had a cigarette between his lips and it was certainly not the first one of the day. “You going to tell me why I had to up and leave or are we going to pretend it never happened?” You demanded.
“We’re not talking about it until we get home” He said, slightly muffled. As if on queue, one of the yellow trams pulled into the station and Ben put out his smoke before dragging himself onto the empty tram, you followed, still feeling slightly bedraggled. The boy threw himself onto one of the chairs, visibly frustrated, you sat on the row behind and began digging through your bag, simply looking for something to do.
The tram ride was long, painfully so. The silence between the two of you was deafening, something you never expected to happen, but it was clear that Ben needed space from the moment you met back with him. You reached your stop and the two of you stood up, briefly making eye contact with each other.
“I need to erm, get some fresh clothes from mine if that’s okay...on the way to yours..These aren’t exactly.. y’know.. comfortable” You spoke, gesturing at the suit you had worn the past two days.
He gave a curt nod, and you continued the walk away from the platform. You quickly unlocked your front door and shoved a few essentials in a bag, along with an oversized shirt and some joggers, well aware that this would be a long night. Ben has waited downstairs, waiting to head back out again a little further down the road to his house.
It was definitely bigger than yours, and much more modern. It wasn’t that you disliked newer houses, you just felt a somewhat alienated stepping into something that felt more like a spaceship than a house. Each to their own though- that’s what you had always figured.
“Gonna tell me what’s got you in a tizz or do I get the joy of guessing?” Desperate for some hint of the Ben you knew to return.
“We’ll go upstairs first yeah, then we can get changed or whatever” He began to trudge up the stairs and you followed. By the time you caught up with him in his room, Ben already had half of his clothes off, and although now definitely wasn’t the best time, you had to admit to yourself that topless Ben certainly wasn’t a sorry sight as you slipped into the marble en-suite.
“You’re killing me Ben. What’s happened for the love of God?”
“People happened.”
You checked yourself over before unlatching the bathroom door again. For the record, the old grey pants paired with the extra large shirt you had brought at some past gig certainly wasn’t your best look, but it was going to have to do for now.
“C’mon grumpy you can tell me all about it like i’m your very own agony aunt” You grabbed his wrist and flopped onto the bed,causing Ben to follow with a thud.
“So what have people done to you to cause such a commotion Benny? You’ve never been like this and you’ve got me proper fussing about you” He rolled onto his back and began to speak.
“They’ll do anything to drag you through the dirt. I haven’t put a foot out of line and half of the idiots at school have decided they don’t like me for it. It’s so fucking stupid I don’t know why it’s bothering me...It just is and I could honestly-“
“Ben it’s probably pissing you off because that’s a normal human emotion I’m afraid…”
“But it’s not just that and it’s another stupid thing honestly I don’t know what my problem is because it’s got nothing to do with me and-“
“One thing at a time okay? Start at the beginning and then if you want, you can tell me what else is getting to you.”
You felt bad for Ben, you really did, he hadn’t done anything wrong and it was clear he didn’t have much experience in handling his emotions. You threw a packet if tissues at him after he began to snivel and kept brushing his face. It was clear he trust you, this was something which brought a strange relief over you that you couldn’t quite explain. The main thing you could do do help Ben was to listen to him, and boy was he glad that the pair of you had all night.
You had migrated downstairs at around 8pm to order food, normally you would have both sprawled out separately over two of the three sofas in the front room, but when you came back from a trip to the kitchen for glasses of water, Ben had parked himself at the end of where you were sat.
“I was cold.” He looked up at you, as if trying to read your thoughts.
“I never said anything Jones! If it was anyone else I’d have told them to move but I think you can be an acception” You had honestly been expecting some sort of reply, and it came as a bit of a shock to you when you looked up to find Ben staring at the t.v. absentmindedly.
“Ben? what’s up?”
“Sorry it’s just, it’s not worth it don’t worry..” he trailed off
You have a stern look, “Anything you think or say is worth my time Ben, I really mean it.”
“It’s just. Jones. that’s what they call me, at school and, I don’t really know why it bothers me but… I’m not Jones, I’m Ben and, it bothers me-“ His eyes had gone slightly glassy again, “It bothers me because they don’t care about me, they care that I score tries and bring the team up the leaderboard. That’s Jones. I don’t even think Ben likes rugby, but what else can you do when it’s expected of you.”
“One thing at a time yeah?”
“I told you it’s stupid”
“yeah you did, and I completely disagree, it’s Benny from now on”
“No one's ever really called me that to be honest..”
“Does it bother you?”
“I think I like it.. but only you can get away with it from now on”
You leaned back onto him as the pair of you waited for the takeaway to arrive, you had sincerely hoped that Ben felt a little better at least, it was glaringly clear that he was more worried that unloading his problems would simply pass them onto you, and you had taken the opportunity to reassure him that you weren’t there to judge him at several opportunities.
You had been talking about this and that until a wave of fatigue hit you at what must have been around half one in the morning, Ben had insisted that you should go upstairs and sleep in his bed and he would take the sofa.
“Ben you’re my best friend I’m pretty sure I can cope with sharing a bed with you, we’ll both be out like lights when we get up there anyway”
You both made your way up the stairs, leaving the remainder of the takeaway to deal with in the morning, and fell onto the the mountain of crisp white pillows. You burrowed your way under the duvet, waiting for Ben to follow. “Y’know.. this is really comfy. Makes my bed feel like a fabulous pile of rocks.”
“Does the job I suppose”
“à le matin mon aimie”
“à demain”
You felt yourself drifting into a deep slumber, unsure as to weather or not Ben was still talking. “I know it’s late but are you awake?” You gave a grunt, which the boy opposite you took as a response.
“At school right.. well where else would it be.. and I don’t know if it’s true but I thought I’d tell you just in case but erm..
