Analyzing the Skywheel Dates

Unable to wait patiently for the Ultimania releasing next month, I wanted to provide my own analysis of the Skywheel dates between Cloud/Tifa and Cloud/Aerith.

By analyzing Cloud's behavior on these two dates, which are explicitly more romantic than the other four, I aim to understand why the dates played out the way they did and what was going through the character's heads during them.

Tifa Date:

What sticks out in most player's minds during the date is the kiss Cloud gives Tifa while riding the Skywheel, and it's easy to see why! It's the first time Cloud has kissed a woman on screen, after all. But I have seen fans state that this proves Cloud likes Tifa more, and while I hate to get myself involved in any shipping war, I feel there is a more interesting conclusion we can draw based on the timeline of events throughout both remake games.

First, I want to direct you to this caption from the Remake Ultimania:

When Cloud gives Tifa the flower, he wants to "Show off a youthful image of what he himself wants to be like"...

I think this caption is very important to helping us understand why Cloud was able to be so bold as to kiss the girl he was always too shy to befriend as a child. And I think it's linked to his new "ex-soldier persona."

See, the ex-soldier persona Cloud crafted is modeled after a person he admired and wanted to be like: Zack. Although making this new personality for himself was an unhealthy response to his trauma, I think there are good things to it, as well. For one, it allowed him to take action again and thereby begin his first steps towards recovery. In addition, it gives him courage to do things he never could before, such as strutting his stuff on the dance floor:

I don't think it's too far of a stretch to say that this extends to him giving the flower to Tifa.

So this, in my mind, explains how Cloud had the courage to kiss Tifa and why some fans might think it felt a little sudden or out of character--it's because it almost is, in a way. But let me reiterate, I don't think that's a bad thing. I think Zack's influence on Cloud is somewhat natural and, frankly, having the courage to do the things you want and have fun is never a bad thing. I truly believe Cloud is exemplifying being Zack's "living legacy" by becoming more confident and outgoing. It's a good thing!!

And let's not ignore Tifa in this scene. Before the kiss, Tifa brings up that she feels she and Cloud have become closer, but frets that she's rushing to conclusions again. She's giving Cloud a clear opening to prove his feelings for her--and frankly, after all this build up? Giving the flower, all the tiny touches they've shared? Cloud is more than ready to prove it to her, and he does. It's so easy, and he does it the best way he knows how: with a kiss. In that moment, the boy became the man he's always aspired to be.

Aerith Date:

Conversely, the Aerith date isn't quite as simple--at least to me. It's hard to understand what's going on in their heads, and I think they comparatively have more obstacles in the way of their romance.

The biggest obstacle is that Aerith has seen through Cloud's persona, and almost calls him out on it during the date. She tells him she's looking for the real him, and that she wants to meet him someday.

I believe this stops Cloud, subconsciously. While the persona he built around Zack gives him more confidence, it's still a persona. It's not who he really is. By giving into that persona at all, he is not giving Aerith what she wants. Being confident and bold with Tifa was important, because she needed proof he liked her, but here? What's important is being the "real" Cloud, whoever that is. It must have stumped him.

Aerith gives him an easy out though: she asks Cloud to let her snuggle up against him until the ride ends. And that much, at least, Cloud can manage. And he goes even further than that when he interlaces their fingers together. I think this is his way of showing that he'll be there for Aerith--not just till the ride ends, but after. He's showing her that he does, in fact, care about her, and that her selfish request isn't as selfish as she thinks it is.

I also want to bring up the lyrics from No Promises to Keep here since I think they're extremely relevant to the Clerith relationship and the hand-holding symbolism seen throughout the game:

Till the day that we meet again At our place, just let me believe In the chance that you'll come Take my hand and never let me go Take my hand And believe We can be Together evermore

The hand holding symbolizes their shared desire to be "together evermore" and the belief that they will be. The interlocked fingers display a powerful, mutual bond that cannot be so easily severed. I think this imagery is both simple and extremely beautiful.

In summary, although they are not at a point in their relationship where they're ready to kiss yet, I believe this scene is meant to show that there is still possibility for their relationship to grow and get to that point.

OK so I've been rewatching a lot of animated movies recently - partly because they help a lot with my anxiety, partly because I just love them, I don't care how old I am.

Now, we all know that in the song Belle in Beauty & The Beast, there's the villagers' exchange.

"I need 6 eggs!"

"That's too expensive!"

And I know Tumblr has always assumed that these two statements go together. There's that heritage post where someone actually researched & broke down not just how expensive 6 eggs would have been to a peasant woman with multiple kids at the time, but also how expensive they would be for Gaston growing up ("When I was a lad I ate 4 dozen eggs to help me get large / now that I'm grown I eat 5 dozen eggs / so I'm roughly the size of a barge!")

And I love that post so much, which is why I kinda feel guilty about making this one... because....

It's not the eggs that are too expensive.

We can see in this frame, that the woman is saying she needs 6 eggs.

But there isn't a guy with her to say the price is too high.

No, the guy saying "That's too expensive!" appears behind Belle in this frame, next:

It's the teapots that are too expensive. Not the eggs.

Another thing that I love about this movie (& one of the many reasons I will always prefer it over the live action* remake of it) is the scene where Belle is reading to Beast, and then proceeds to teach him how to read when she discovers he's forgotten how, after 20 years as a Beast (I'll come back to this statement in the next part). But you know what makes that scene even sweeter???? This part of the song Something there:

This happens before the scene where Belle teaches him to read. This happens before we know that Beast is illiterate. We look at this scene and we assume they're reading it together. But, no. Either Belle is already reading to him in this scene, which would track with the Romeo & Juliet scene later. But look at how eager Beast is to scoot close to Belle in this scene. Look how excited he is to just... be close to her. That's a common thing throughout this song, actually - his wonder at her letting him be close, trusting him, and seeing him as gentle & sweet & "almost kind". This is why I dont think Belle is reading to him in this scene; I think he's just resting against her shoulder while cuddling up to her and enjoying her warmth & her presence & her trust. His attention is on her, not the book.

We know, looking back, that he isn't reading the book over hee shoulder, and they're not reading it together. But if this is when Beast is almost kind, I think this is a stage where he's still... playing, just a little bit. He's given her the library, which he has cleaned up for her, and he got so excited about it working & making her happy. He knows she won't flinch at his claw or shudder at his paw. And now he just wants to be close to her. Like a dog that just lays it's head on your lap for a pat while you're doing something else, or a dog falling asleep across your legs, Beast isn't interested in doing an activity together, he just wants to be with her, to be close to her, now that he's allowed. And I think that just makes this part even more adorable.

Now, what did I mean by him having been a Beast for 20 years at this point????

One of the biggest debates we have on here is about this age.

"The rose... would bloom until his 21st year" has always been interpreted as "the rose will bloom until he turns 21". So the Prince must have been 11 when the curse was implemented. Which is a plot hole, since he's shown to be an adult in the painting, and in the stained glass sequence; he's shown as the same age in the opening glass sequence as he is in the final stained glass image, just with different hair.

But I don't think the curse is until his 21st birthday; I think it's until his 21st year spent as a beast. (We are not acknowledging the Big Mouse's live action remake.)

Finally, one last thing. The rose.

I know we all know the theory of the Enchantress being Belle's mother, and that's what I'm running on here. If you saw a pretty, glowing flower in a glass case in a shredded room in a forbidden wing of an enchanted castle, the logical thing would be to not disturb it. But when Belle sees the rose, it's as if she goes into a mild trance - she's completely drawn to it. She doesn't even notice the Beast approaching until he's right there. All Belle wants to do is touch the rose - and I'm wondering if it's because there was something about it which was familiar to her. If she recognised her mother's magic.

OK, that's me done. Enjoy this, I guess???

(Also, the artists done a great job. Yes, Belle & Beast are the only ones who wear blue, which marks them as outcasts from the village. But did anyone else notice that Belle's hair & eyes are the same colour as Beast's fur & horns, and that Beast's eyes are the same colour as Belle's dress & bow???)

Red Realistically, Red is not inherently awful, my hate is a byproduct of the franchise itself constantly pushing him as the biggest most importantest trainer ever to live, and I despise that. He exudes nothing to me. I think his challenge in GSC also sucks, the remakes actually made it way worse, and Let's Go's conditions are so annoying I refused to even entertain the idea. I have no respect for him, and think the general fanon perception of selective mutism is giving credit where it's not due. He's just supposed to be strong and silent warrior man archetype, which is boring as sin, and people are out here making him actually interesting. Stop it. I'm trying to be a hater.

Brendan "Your dad's a gym leader so I thought you'd be a guy." "Unlike you, your dad seems tough." Brendan is a piece of shit masquerading as your first "nice" rival and I never got over the bad vibes. Fuck this dude.

Flint He looks stupid, and is in love with Volkner. Atrocious taste.

Thorton He's just kind of a dweeb, and then Masters had a really early event where he's supremely rude to Hilda for literally no reason. His vibes are rancid.

Flannery Every tier has one I look at and go "I am being a little unfair, but I must be true to my feelings." Flannery is that pick. I cannot stand Flannery for entirely unfair reasons, but nothing gets me past it. I'm sorry, it's an ongoing hangup, but I cannot get over how much I hate when they make a female character whose thing is being shy or self conscious, and put her in a revealing outfit. Like come on. I know what this is and I'm mad about it. Consider her my entry point onto some guys being just really skeevy about female character designs.

Volkner "Oh, I'm so bored of battling because no one is a challenge to me, guy who isn't even on the Elite Four." Get over yourself, loser.

Klara/Avery I'm lumping them together. I hate them both equally. Galar is already fighting an uphill battle with its atrocious aesthetic, and these two being petty losers is doing nothing to help their case.

Sordward/Shielbert I mean...do I really need to explain? His head is a penis. Literal dickhead. Worst post-game segment of the series.

Ball Guy Originally omitted, decided to include just to shit on garbage reddit meme culture. Masters, you fucked up putting this thing in here.

Mohn/AZ Okay, these two are the actual, beyond all else, bottom of the barrel losers. Why? Because they are the only inclusions that I think actively harm their games. In the case of Mohn, the only emotional center Gen 7 has is the Aether Fam, and the husband/father is literally just hanging out on an island. We know where he is. He's the bean man. And this angst gets absolutely annihilated over the fact that he's literally just right the fuck here. USUM even has him interact, only to shut down a real resolution with him. Like great Lusamine, glad you've decided to move on, that is a choice, but like. We're all really going to pretend like this wasn't the entire core of the issue and just let it all go in a half-cooked scene? I wish he never showed up.

AZ is much the same. His presence as an eternal entity wandering the earth bothers me, because honestly bro, it's been 3000 years. Do you know how quickly people change who they are? I'll give you a hint, it's fewer years than that. And at no point was there any real attempt to like. Reflect or undo his previous actions? Like you could've dealt with the machine since you knew where it was, man. You could've done literally anything. And his resolution is supposed to be one (1) battle with you where he suddenly feels like he can just let go of the weight of his sins of creating a doomsday weapon that runs on Pokemon life and committing a genocide with it. Hooray. Glad we wrapped that up. He should've just been a cautionary tale that existed in history, not a literal guy who continues to be here. I hate him so much.

My initial screaming thoughts on the Avatar the Last Air Bender live action remake on Netflix. Spoilers for eps 1-4 below, will watch 5-8 later today probably.

I want to hug this casting director and also ask them how they pulled the chacters straight out of the cartoon and made them real.

The tone is much more mature. The themes are different in a good way - they haven't changed much of what exists in the canon, just shifted focus. Adult side characters are getting more story. Stakes feel higher. Violence! Grittiness!

Firebenders are really fucking evil so they need to balance it with more morally gray/evil earthbenders and more upfront sympathy/development for Iroh and Zuko

This show could be enjoyable to someone who has never seen the cartoon before but it is definitely written for us, those who had our hearts broken by the movie

Sokka is not overtly sexist and honestly I'm okay with it. I like that arc for him in the animated tv show but with the tone of the live action, he couldn't just be funny sexist, he would have to be dark sexist and that just wouldn't be Sokka. Plus I like how they focus more on Sokka's sense of duty because it creates a good foil for Aang.

I was never really a big Sokka/Suki shipper but DAMN.

Thess vs The Media Machine

There are three upcoming things that I just ... do not get.

Cruella 2: Yes, the movie that mostly only got talked about because it literally established Cruella de Ville's origin story as "Dalmatians killed my parents" and became a meme ... is getting a sequel. Why? How? I mean, I thought a Villain Origin Story Prequel for Cruella de Ville was stupid to begin with, riding on the coattails of Maleficent (who had a much more compelling origin story, thanks), but a sequel? Disney, if you have to give us Villain Origin Story Prequel Movies? GIVE US URSULA THE SEA WITCH FROM THE LITTLE MERMAID! Don't give us a sequel movie of the origin story of a woman whose sole motivation was supposed to be, "I want a spotted white fur coat and snow leopard's too expensive so I'll make it out of puppies".

How To Train Your Dragon Live Action Remake: Oh, come on. Half the beauty of that series was the character design. And you want to make it all just ... live action people? Do you have any concept of how boring that is by comparison? And I still don't get why. Like ... the movie's right there. I have it on DVD. It's still awesome. We don't need live action remakes of everything, for fuck's sake. Half the time, the live-action (or at least photo-realistic) version is just ... this soulless husk of the animated one. See for example ... Aladdin, The Jungle Book, The Lion King... (I'm not sure how I feel about The Little Mermaid but ... lemme put it this way. I don't care what colour skin Ariel's actress has, but if they make Ursula some slender waif, I'm going to be pissed. I mean, I get the issues involving villains being fat or otherwise conventionally unattractive, but the Ursula in the cartoon version owned her deal and made it ... frankly, sexy. So really, no, leave her fat and living her best life.)

Watchmen: The Animated Series: ...dear. Fucking. Gods. The Zach Snyder version was ... okay, but they really did tone Rorshach down. Like, a lot. But from what I saw of the trailer for the animated version? They put him as a centre-stage hero in the style of Batman. Did the jackasses who wrote the premise for this even read the comics? Sure, some guys decided that Rorshach was the GOAT from the comics, but they had a tendency to be ... well, in the same basic family of incel that Rorshach himself was as a character. That got whittled all the way down in the Snyder film, and now they've got Cartoon Rorshach acting like Batman. No one needs, wants, or asked for this. Alan Moore must be spinning in his grave. (No, I know he's not dead, but have you met Alan Moore? He's totally the type to sleep in his own grave.)

Gods, no wonder studio execs think they can replace writers with AI. So much of this seems to be entertainment by marketing committee while good shit gets cancelled Because Reasons. Though I guess they're at least somewhat less obvious about "Give us something that we can get a merch line out of" than they were in the 80s, because no one is getting a line of action figures out of Watchmen because there is only so far they can sanitise it. (I think. The trailer gives me some concerns in the "We animated just enough of the Zach Snyder film to get people watching and then just turned Rorshach into Batman" sort of way.)

So many good thoughts here, but I'm gonna zoom in on this one

Wendy throughout this whole movie is pretty much just the “I came out to have a good time and I’m honestly feeling so attacked right now” meme

Because that captures my viewing experience of Peter and Wendy 2023 SO MUCH. Every Neverland story gives Wendy the choice between Neverland and London - staying a child or growing up. And she (almost) always chooses to go back and grow up, because that's how the story goes, but she's dearly tempted to stay.

But this adaption... I don't really get the impression that Wendy is all that eager to be in Neverland in the first case, let alone to stay. Apart from being a bit grumpy about boarding school in the beginning, and apart from having a bit of fun flying, she's pretty firmly on board the growing up train and even makes it her project to save the rest of the lost boys and girls from their eternal childhood. No wonder she and Peter don't get along all that much - they are ideologically opposed from the beginning.

Which brings me to something I thought was bit weird the first time I watched the movie, and which annoys me more the more I think of it.

Where are the mermaids?

Granted, I see why they might chose not to include them, because apart from their lagoon providing a scenic location and them setting up Tiger Lily being kidnapped in the book, they don't do all that much plotwise. But they do fulfill one very important thematic function: They are there, because Wendy want to see them. Neverland is a place where there are mermaids, and Peter bring her to them.

In the 2023 movie, there are no Mermaids, and we don't get the impression that Wendy would have been all that keen on experiencing that piece of childlike wonder anyway.

And... all things considered, Wendy choosing against Neverland almost from the moment she got there is not BAD per se, but it does set up a different dynamic than what we are used to. In her big scene when she is forced to walk the plank (and how I adore that they finally remembered that a girl who can fly might not be in all that much need of saving in circumstances like that) her happy thoughts are not about the childish things she might leave behind, but about the adult life she's about to embrace. Wendy has made her choice, and she has no more time for Peter's and Hook's childish games.

Only, that kinda begs the question what she even needs Neverland or Peter for. A nostalgic farewell to childhood? A last hurrah before bording school? A comment on her argument with her father before bedtime ("George Darling was right" is NOT the moral I expected from a Disney Peter Pan adaptation)? A chance to bring the lost boys and girls home? Is this a rescue mission? Are we supposed to read it as a tragedy and a failure when Peter and Hook reunite in the end? (I honestly like what the story does with their dynamic, but alas - their relationship is not all that relevant to Wendy, and this is HER story).

For reasons that elude me, the Disney Live Action Remakes seem to compete in which remake can be most pointless, but I must say I have rarely seen it embedded in the story to this extent before. Wendy doesn't seem to want Neverland. Wendy doesn't seem to need Neverland. And despite a lot of fun moments and gorgeous scenes (Tink covering the ship with pixie dust is such a power move!) and despite great actors, there is not much to take from this movie that hasn't been done better in other adaptations.

Still, I had a lot of fun, and I suppose that is all I need, in the end.

Peter Pan & Wendy (2023) - Thoughts

A little bit of brief background here; I’m a huge Peter Pan fan. I grew up loving the Disney animated film but the 2003 live action has always been the superior Peter Pan adaptation to me; Peter Pan holds a special place in my heart as my late nan who I was close with used to take me to the panto every Christmas, and my favourite ones were always Peter Pan.

So without further ado: I watched the new Disney’s Peter Pan & Wendy that came out on Disney+ this weekend!

First, some live watching thoughts:

This movie is literally carried by Ever Anderson as Wendy, like no disrespect to the other cast but she literally carried this film in my opinion

By the way, anyone complaining about it being Wendy’s story is an idiot because the story has ALWAYS been Wendy’s story, ever since Barrie wrote the play and novels. Regardless of which version you watch, it always starts with her lamenting about not wanting to grow up and ends with her acceptance of the fact she must grow up - it’s HER journey, her development.

I have no idea why Disney/Lowery chose to cast two separate actors as Mr Darling and Captain Hook but I’m NOT a fan of that choice. Even in the animated film, they’re voiced by the same actor - it’s a part of Peter Pan tradition to have the actor play both roles, so it’s baffling that it’s not the case here.

I really wish this film had spent a little bit more time BEFORE Peter arrived to show us more of each of the children and also the relationship between the children and their parents. The film opens with a nice little scene of John and Michael sword-fighting whilst Wendy prepares to head off to boarding school, and then she joins them and their father scolds her for “this is how you choose to spend your last night in the nursery” and “you’re too old for this sort of fun”, which definitely works… but it’s very quick paced and it rushed by so quickly, like the film kind of just spends only a few minutes establishing “Wendy is being sent to boarding school the next morning; she doesn’t want to grow up; her parents want her to be a better role model to her brothers” and that’s it.

Also interesting to note that Wendy is not in a nightgown in this version but some kind of pyjama-ish undergarment outfit, plus a dressing gown

Nana appears but only in brief moments 😭 WE DESERVED MORE NANA! In this version she’s kind of more just a pet - they never mention that she’s the Darling family’s nursemaid and looks after the children, and there’s a brief flash where (I think) you see a young Wendy cuddling her as a puppy… like??? She’s not just a dog, she is not just a pet, she is the finest nursemaid on four paws because the Darlings can’t afford to hire one.

Yara Shahidi as Tinkerbell is BEAUTIFUL. I love her facial expressions, and even though there’s less attitude and she’s not jealous in this version, I still love her

I know that the film was supposed to film in 2020 but Covid shut things down so they didn’t film until a whole year later, and obviously children grow very quickly… but Peter’s voice is so deep in this version, you can tell Alexander Molony hit puberty during lockdown. I feel bad for criticizing a kid about it because it’s not his fault, but it can’t be denied that he’s older than Peter is supposed to be. Ever Anderson was also 13-14 when filming actually happened, and while it’s slightly less glaringly obvious with her, she’s definitely a tiny bit older than most versions of Wendy. I think it’s more obvious with Alexander though because of the deep voice.

This version makes it seem like Mrs Darling is the storyteller and Wendy isn’t, which kind of bugs me to be honest but oh well

Let’s be honest, no adaptation will ever top the “Flying” scene from the 2003 version - that was a whole masterpiece in itself. This version does do a nice enough job though, all things considered, even if the CGI doesn’t always look quite right

I don’t want to slam how Neverland looks because I’m aware it was filmed in Newfoundland in Canada, which I don’t doubt is a beautiful place - what I will say is that I don’t know if there was some kind of ultra real gritty filter added on it if it’s something else, but to me it just wasn’t colourful enough. Neverland is supposed to be magical and vibrant and like a dream, not 100% rigidly realistic. They could have made Skull Rock shaped at least somewhat like a skull for God’s sake, just as an example

So, overall… it’s not the worst Disney remake. It’s truly not that bad, at least not enough to warrant racist morons bombing it with one star reviews. It’s definitely not a patch on the 2003 version, at least not in my opinion - that one will always reign superior, at least to me.

Some things:

I definitely feel like this film was carried by Ever Anderson as Wendy, she literally did the most and seemed the most well suited for her part overall

Jude Law was actually better than I thought he would be as Hook, Jason Isaacs is still my favourite but Jude is alright

I think Alexander Molony had the right spirit, I just think that he wasn’t given all that much to do and also it was very noticeable that he was on the cusp of adulthood already. Had the film been filmed when intended and not delayed, I think his performance would have come across better

The other kids and the pirates were super fun too, but not really given a lot to do either, which is sad. Would have loved to see more of Jim Gaffigan as Smee though

Yara Shahidi as Tinkerbell and Alyssa Wapanatahk as Tiger Lily were also amazing and big standouts, shoutout to them both!

Mentioned this above but will mention it again: I don’t understand what the point of casting a separate actor to play Mr Darling was. Yes, as I mentioned, there’s the dual casting thing - but also Mr Darling was in this film so little that there was zero sense in hiring a whole other actor to do the part??? He’s literally got a total of like one and a half minutes screentime?!?

Putting the crocodile in just the one single time was a fucking crime, I tell you! Why was he only in one single scene?!? 🐊

The CGI wasn’t the worst I’ve seen but it definitely could have been a bit better

Here’s the thing: the original animation was 1h21 and this one is 1h46… and yet this one felt way more rushed for some reason? It’s like the film hits the basic plots, like ticking them off, but doesn’t actually embellish or explore them properly. It’s just so rushed and the film suffers for it

I truly think this film would have benefited from letting us get to know the Darling children even better at the beginning before Peter arrived, because the most developed of the three is Wendy and all we know about her is she’s going to boarding school and her parents want her to be a better role model/set a better example for her brothers. All we know about John and Michael is that they’re Wendy’s brothers and they like to play fight - they don’t really feel like proper characters, they’re literally just there

I’m still waiting for a Peter Pan adaptation to just bite the bullet and give us that flash forward of Peter visiting an older Wendy, meeting Jane and taking Jane to Neverland - the 2003 version did film it but it’s deleted and the special effects aren’t done on it (you can watch it online but still)

I want to know where in Barrie’s text it says Wendy wanted to become an airplane pilot or that she actually fulfilled that ambition… ?!?!

The soundtrack was good - not the masterpiece that James Newton Howard’s is but still pretty good

Overall, I’d give it a 6/10 maybe. It wasn’t the worst Pan movie or adaptation out there but it’s not the best either, at least in my opinion. It IS one of the better Disney remakes though, and if it had been a bit longer and had a better budget then I’d say it should have had a theatrical release because the cinematography is STUNNING. It’s just that it very much feels like they rushed the story and had a smaller budget than hoped for.

Clearly, God doesn't want us to shy away from our mistakes and wrong doings. It's natural to let fear and shame control us but we still have to be humble and admit our faults, that we're not perfect and we mess up. That's why we NEED Jesus and God's grace. Adam and Eve hid from Him, sinning was bad but then they chose to not even come to Him and separated themselves from Him. King David is famous for being the good shepherd boy, the guy who defeated all of Israel's enemies, and wrote Psalms. But he was still human who lost some battles with sin like sleeping with a married woman and fearing he would find out, had him killed. I suppose hiding our sins makes everything worse, because it's a prideful act, it's covering up sin with more sin.

I think to doubt God's Grace is to doubt His love. When you hurt someone you love, do you give up and not try to make it right? If so, then, do you really love them? You don't even care to mend your relationship with them. God gives us free will because He loves us and wants US to CHOOSE Him just as much as He chooses us. So, asking God for forgiveness and to help us not do it again is a really big thing to do.

God could have destroyed Adam and Eve soon after they sinned and remake humanity that won't bear the curse they brought, but He didn't, He had mercy on them and all of humanity ever since.

So, all you have to do is come to God with a regretful, sincere heart and admit where you took a wrong turn (it's a good learning opportunity for you too). And say you recognize now that it wasn't good, thus, rejecting your sinful actions (it's the first step to rejecting the ways of the world and following Jesus) and ask God for forgiveness and to help you be led by His Spirit away from sin and anything that doesn't please Him. He's faithful and just to forgive, He wants to fix our relationship too, in fact so badly that's why Jesus went through Hell so we wouldn't have to. Once you confess what you are guilty of, God will throw your sins into His bon fire and they'll be destroyed forever.

He loves you and WANTS to forgive you if you'll let Him.

Conclusion

It was enjoyable!! Not great but pretty good!!! It starts slow but once it gets going it does some really interesting stuff. I’m not a fan of all the changes they made, but a few of them are ones I’m very glad are there. The effects are decent but whoever is doing the fake beards needs to be fired. Definitely some choices made that I don’t like regarding some of the characters (specifically Katara and Iroh) but it overall is distinct enough from the original to be a worthwhile watch and also pretty fun

One of the things they really failed to understand in the live remake is SNOW WHITE IS NOT THE MOST INTERESTING CHARACTER. The animals are, the dwarves are. Those are the parts you remember. Snow is sweet, and a joy to listen to, but it is the dwarves you care about, and the dwarves who are ultimately the heroes. And Disney got rid of them because they are politically incorrect.

They had so much personality.

They were fun, and creative.

And I can tell you, their names were in an awful lot of trivia quizzes! 

As a child, I loved this book. The dwarves were perfect for me as a young boy. They were simple, but not boring. I wonder if that is why they are being eliminated from the Disney franchise? Because they appealed to boys?  They were hard workers, they were successful, they were brave but hardly fearless ... They found the gigantic Snow to be terrifying at first. And she became not just their house cleaner, but a mother figure to them, just as Wendy did in Peter Pan - something else that was removed from that live action remake. Women can no longer be mothers, and men cannot be admired. Ken, in the recent Barbie movie, cannot even be loved. He is an unperson, existing merely at the whim of the Barbie, and he can be poofed out of existence when it pleases her. And that’s what has happened to these Dwarves. It does not please Disney to see successful & happy men. Especially not ones that we see benefitting from a woman’s touch. The symbiotic relationship between the sexes must be broken. The female protagonist invariably does not need a man, and lately, doesn’t even want a man. The male can pine for the female, but he is useless and worthless, and could be merely an obstacle to female greatness. The stories now are only about Female Power. She years only for more and more and more ... POWER.... Disney, and the rest of the Leftist studios, have taken stories about heroes and love, and made them soulless reflections of their own wicked lusts. And when I hear Hollywood is on strike, and will make no more movies, all I can think of is that it is like terrorists threatening not to kill your family. Please, please stay firm. Strike until every demand is met, and strike some more, and keep on striking until the last of you useless communists has turned to dust, and is blown away in the breeze. Nobody will miss you. Movies and tv and plays and musicals do not need you, and will go on without you. Hollywood was great, once. 

But it is time for something new.

Goodbye + a few words for the road

Hey folks, this blog has been inactive for a while now as my life has been very busy and my interests have changed, so here's me offering official closure at least.

First of all: It has been a fun few years chatting, having debates, inspiring and helping each other out around our shared passion for fanfiction. I really enjoyed this form of interaction and was often moved, amused and empowered by our exchanges. I look back to this entire time with you with a fond smile. Thank you for your kindness, patience and enthusiasm.

And since i'm here, i want to use my reach one last time to share some personal thoughts - please indulge me, i won't bore you.

What is it about writing fanfiction that feels so empowering to so many of us?

When i was a child and young teenager i experienced stories as something closed-off, unchangeable, a product of great minds that, yes, i could and did vicariously enjoy, but of which i was forever the passive recipient. I was allowed in the fantastical playground of a storyteller's mind, but i was there as a guest, i could look but not play. I wasn't even aware playing was an option.

But with fanfiction ... somehow my entire perspective on storytelling changed. My relationship to stories moved away from mere consumption to a desire to make it different, to make it mine. Suddenly there was a space for my previously vague, unformed ideas, and an incentive to explore them.

Confronted with polished, glossy professional stories, I now saw possibilities. What if this character fell in love with the same gender, experienced trivial domestic bliss, came to grip with their childhood trauma? And i could make this possibilities reality through my own writing, bend the narrative to cater to my taste and interests. I was an active participant in the process of creating reality through words. And sure, the product was rough, awkward, mediocre at times - but it was mine, it held something of me. And sometimes it entertained and thrilled and moved readers from all over the world that happened to stumble upon it.

Online communities allowed me to realize that we can reach others, relate to each other, move others, that our voices are unique and interesting, if only we care to speak. A pen, a laptop, and we can make as much fucking sandcastles as we want to, tell the stories we want to tell, that are ours to tell. No one can do that in our place.

And if you've nodded along to this trail of thought; if you agree with this logic and can relate to that feeling of empowerment; then i want you to understand that this can be applied to all aspects of life.

This dreadful, gray concrete wall on your street that fills you with gloom? Why endure its depressing sight when you can grab a spray can and remake it into something colorful and joyful, reshape that wall into something you actually care to look at and that may bring others joy too.

Rewrite that story.

The wasteland next to your neighborhood that's currently hosting weed and trash and that the municipality doesn't want to take care of? Why accept it as it is, if you can envision better possibilities? A shovel, a wheelbarrow, some seeds, a few helping hands, the internet to guide you, and you have the first steps to an urban garden beloved by bees, butterflies and birds, and providing fresh fruit and vegs to you and your neighbors.

Sandcastle, build that fucking sandcastle.

Your workplace where everyone is treated like shit and your rights are threatened? Are you going to accept the narrative that things have to be that way? That there's nothing you can do, except maybe vote? What's to stop you from reshaping your workplace so it caters to your needs? Colleagues at your back, help from the union, and you can bargain for better work conditions, modify the entire workplace. No one is going to do that for you.

Transform the narrative.

The local coal mine that is tearing through the earth to dig up tons upon tons of fossil combustible, actively threatening all life on earth? Can you really accept that as a given, as something no one has might on, except maybe some remote politician? Or can you join a group fighting for climate justice and block the shit out of that mine so it's forced to stop the destruction?

Redesign the entire game.

The step from writing fanfiction to blocking a coal mine may seem far-fetched, but at its core it's a matter of how we interact with the world we live in. See how it all ties into each other? How once you've noticed you have the power to actively reshape things around you, whether stories or your real-life environment, you realize that everything can be changed, and that everything probably must be changed, too?

Listen.

Friends, hard times are ahead. Times have been hard for a lot of us for a long while now. With the climate crisis upon us and world governments eager to maintain this deadly status-quo of economic growth and environmental destruction no matter the costs, it's up to us to take action, fight the powers in place and change the lives we lead. We can't rely on politicians, we can't rely on big business, we can't rely on someone more smart and capable to emerge and fix things. No one's gonna come. We have to start where we stand, teach each other and ourselves what to do, and get shit done.

It will be difficult, and it will be tough and it will be scary, but we have each other, we have this wonderful medium that allows us to find each other all over the planet, hear each other's voices and organize on an unprecedented scale. We are creative, and numerous and bold, and we will be reckoned with. Because help won't come from above, and we have to stop waiting, hoping and campaigning for it. Let's invest our energy where it really matters, and that's not a mere cross on a ballot every few years.

Being an active participant in the fight for a better life, no matter how harrowing that might sometimes be, is so much better than enduring crisis after crisis with only the dishonest voices of the powerful to lead you through them. And the crises will come. Covid is only the start. You will not be forever able to keep your head down and abide the rules, not if you want to maintain your personal integrity. I repeat: keeping your head down will not be an option forever. So why not choose to act of your own impulse?

Friends, change is coming and there will be choices to face sooner or later. Questions that will demand answers. Can I accept the status quo? Can I accept the dominant narrative? Can I accept indignities and injustice, carried out against me or sometimes in my name? Can I accept the climate crisis and environmental destruction taking place under my nose?

Talk to your friends. Find your answers. Find the drive for change.

Friends, the world is yours to shape. The story is yours to tell. Be aware of your own power, and use it for good.

Friends, be brave. The time is now. Good luck on your way.

under the mistletoe, watching the fire glow day 13: princess

Character A’s little sibling/child wants to meet their favorite celebrity/writer/person for Christmas. Character B is said “Christmas Present” ,, percabeth. for that one anon

Percy can honestly say that he didn’t think this would end up happening.

When he had sent her a message, it had been done absentmindedly, fully expecting it to be ignored. He’s well aware that celebrities don’t respond to people like him, but it was Christmas, Estelle was on his last nerve, and he figured that he could at least try.

Somehow, all of that ends with him meeting up with a super hot Hollywood actress.

As Percy holds Estelle’s hand, who can’t stop bouncing excitedly, he thinks back to that moment. Estelle’s dramatic cry of meeting the princess in the live action remake of Barbie and the Twelve Dancing Princesses had gotten to the point that he decided he was done and took things into his own hands.

It went something like him sending her, hey so my little sister is being annoying about the barbie movie and won’t shut up so can you come meet her so I can get a moment of peace?

When she responded, yeah sure when and where, he thinks he may have had a heart attack. It was surreal, setting up a mini meet and greet through instagram dms of all things, but it worked well enough because here he was, looking out for Annabeth.

“Where’s the princess!” Estelle demands, and Percy wants to bang his head into a wall. She’s practically screaming, and she’s pulling on his arm so arm that it may fall off.

“I don’t know,” he tells her.

“Find her.”

“Estelle. I don’t know where she is. Relax.”

“I want to see her now!” Estelle is only five years old so it’s understandable that she’s so annoying. Percy loves his baby sister dearly, but sometimes he questions why is mother had a baby so many years after him.

“The movie isn’t even that good. She wasn’t even a convincing princess.”

Estelle stomps. “Yes she is!”

Percy snorts. “Yeah, okay.”

It’s then that he feels hot breath on his ear, and he freezes, well aware that he’s just made a very dire mistake.

“Not a convincing princess?” someone whispers into his ear, a hint of humor in their voice. “You offend me.”

Percy whips around, and of course, there she is in all her glory.

He finds Annabeth Chase staring at him with eyes that look much more vibrant in person. She looks small and shy, and Percy thinks she would be the perfect person to hug in the cold.

He thinks she sure looks like a princess with the way her hair falls in old ringlets down her back, and her eyes shimmer in the sunlight. She’s not even dressed as a princess right now, but he could have been fooled.

“I didn’t mean—”

“Sure you didn’t.” Annabeth tightens her coat around herself, clearly cold, and she leans down to say hello to his sister. “You must be Estelle!”

Estelle gives her a wide grin, and Percy doesn’t think he’s ever seen her so happy before. “I am!”

“You look like a princess,” Annabeth tells her, bopping her on the nose gently. “You could be one of my sisters!”

Estelle’s eyes go wide. “You think so?”

“Of course I do, silly,” and wow, even her voice is elegant. Percy’s starting to think that maybe she really is a princess. He considers bowing to her.

“My brother says he’s your friend and that’s how he got you here,” she says, crossing her arms. Percy shoots his sister a look as she continues saying, “Is that true? My brother is a loser so I think he’s lying.”

“You don’t think your brother is cool?”

“Not to be friends with you,” Estelle says proudly.

“But I think he’s super cool! You’re super lucky to have him as a brother.”

Percy can see the change in Estelle’s demeanor having just got told that her brother is cool. Percy knows full and well that she’s about to suck up to him because her idol told her to, and that’s what children do. It makes him want to stick his tongue out at her as though saying told you so, and he would have if Annabeth wasn’t standing right there to see it.

“I’m kidding,” Estelle swears. “I play with him all the time,” which is a blatant lie.

When Estelle is no longer looking, Annabeth gives him a wink and mouths you’re welcome. Percy feels his face turn red because despite not loving the Barbie movie, he’s still all over everything else she’s been in, which is a lot. She’s practically royalty, and she’s talking to him. He’s breathing the same air as her.

At some point, they migrate over to a set of chairs outside the park they’re in. It’s pretty cold with the snow falling around them, but Estelle is vibrating with excitement to the point that he wouldn’t be surprised if she generated her own heat. Percy sits to the side, letting his sister have her moment. As entranced as he feels by the celebrity sitting in front of him, he knows that he probably shouldn’t show it, risking further teasing from both parties.

Annabeth’s super kind, he learns quickly. She laughs with her whole being and brightens up the room with her smile. She tells amazing stories about the fantasy, and Estelle listens intently. She’s so young that she doesn’t entirely realize that she’s not a real princess, and it warms Percy’s heart.

(And from the look Annabeth gives him, it warms hers too.)

It feels like hours that they’re sitting there before Percy decides they’ve had enough. As pleasant as Annabeth’s been for his sanity, he knows she’s probably getting tired herself.

“I think it’s time to say goodbye, Stella.”

And, of course, this cues the meltdown.

“No.”

Percy sighs. “We need to go home soon.”

“I don’t want to.”

Percy’s temper is beginning to shorten again, and he can tense the temper tantrum that’s about to occur. It’s just a question of which sibling is going to start it at this point.

“We can’t leave Princess Genevieve here without a way to get home!”

Percy almost laughs in his little sister’s face because Annabeth is not a Genevieve by any means. Genevieve is a ridiculous name for a princess anyways. Annabeth is much nicer for a princess. “I’m sure Princess Genevieve has her own ride home.”

“This is why you don’t have a girlfriend!” Estelle loudly blurts. “You never offer girls rides home!”

Annabeth chokes on air, and Percy considers jumping into the Hudson river and swimming away.

“I don’t want a girlfriend anyways, so good,” he says, tugging her hand into his.

“If you were a nice person, then maybe Princess Genevieve would’ve been your girlfriend.”

“They don’t date peasants like us. Come on.”

“Can we please take her home?” Estelle asks.

Percy sighs, dropping her hand. “Ask her yourself.”

He genuinely expects Annabeth to say no, so when his sister walks right on up to Annabeth and stares up at her, he is blatantly shocked as she says, “I would love to.”

It becomes very obvious that Percy ends up losing the fight against a five-year-old as he’s driving the car with Annabeth in the passenger seat and Estelle in her car seat in the back. Estelle’s continuously asking questions, and Percy is somewhat mortified because as time went on, Estelle gets more and more daring with what she asks.

Everything is mainly along the lines of having a boyfriend and pointed coughs in Percy’s direction. Each time, Annabeth would give him a knowing smile and he’d do everything to look anywhere but at her.

Percy can’t be thankful enough when they make it to his mom’s apartment, and he gets to kick Estelle out of the car. She gives a heartfelt goodbye to Annabeth and a glare at Percy before she’s out the door. It leaves him and Annabeth alone in the car, a silence settling between them.

They’ve been together for at least a couple of hours, but they haven’t truly interacted until now, so he’s at a loss as to what to do. It’s as though he’s blacked out during the last few hours, and maybe even the last few weeks, because last he remembers, he was just sitting on the couch doing nothing, and now Annabeth Chase is sitting in his car, looking at him expectantly.

Finally, she says, “Are you going to look at me, or…”

Percy turns his head like a deer in headlights. “I’m sorry.”

“You look like you’re about to pass out.”

“I might. This is kind of weird.”

“What is?”

“Having you in my car.”

“Why?”

“You’re a celebrity.”

She smirks at him. “Do I intimidate you?”

“Uh, yes.”

“Well, don’t be intimidated.”

“I’m sorry, but you’re very famous. I will be intimidated, and you will let me be.”

“I mean, I get that, but there’s really no reason to be intimidated. The other day, I walked past a mirror and actually got excited to meet a celebrity.”

“What? You just forgot your own identity?”

She smiles. “Something like that.”

Percy laughs, slightly more at ease. He’s at least able to look her in the eyes now. She looks back at him and leans against the seat with her shoulder.

“Percy,” she teases. “You can talk to me.”

“Believe me, I’m trying.”

Annabeth rolls her eyes fondly. “Do you know why I’m here?”

“For my sister.”

“It wasn’t really for her.”

Percy frowns, confused. “But you said…”

“I know what I said. The reason I even opened the message wasn’t because of her, though.”

Percy bites his lower lip nervously because the mood in the car has suddenly changed, and he’s certain he doesn’t have tinted windows.

“I opened it because I thought you were hot.”

Percy blinks, a beat passes, and then he bursts out laughing. “You thought I was hot!?”

“You are! I thought maybe it would be fun!”

“You live in LA with a ton of super rich and famous people, and you come after me? The guy that can barely afford his own apartment?” “I mean… it doesn’t really matter if you can’t afford it because I can. But that’s only if, like, this actually goes anywhere.”

“Are you always this forward?”

“Absolutely not, but you couldn’t even look me in the eyes, and I have to leave soon.”

“So you’re saying you want to, what? Marry me?”

“Exactly,” she deadpans.

“Woah, baby, I hardly know you! How could I marry you!”

“Hilarious.”

“It was, wasn’t it?”

“My point is,” she says pointedly, “I like you and would want to see you again. Without a child there.”

Percy’s brain is going bonkers right now because Annabeth Chase just asked him out. It’s even crazier because he’s thinking of saying yes. He tries to withstand, because he knows that he’ll never fit in with everything she’s surrounded by, but something tells him that she won’t mind, so he gives in.

“Fine,” he says playfully. “I guess I’ll take you on a date.”

“Oh shut up. I’ve been around Estelle all day telling me about how much her brother wants me to date him.”

“I didn’t say that, but to be fair, she’s not wrong.”

Annabeth shoots him a surprised look. “You’re not as shy as I thought.”

Percy pouts and whispers, “Bummer,” and then he’s pulling her in for a sweet kiss. It’s not at all him, and he’s sure this is no longer at all her either, but it feels right to both of them. Then, Annabeth bites his bottom lip, lets out a breathtaking whimper, and Percy deepens the kiss.

“These windows aren’t tinted,” Percy jokingly breathes out against her when she unbuckles her seatbelt.

“That’s okay,” she replies, smiling into the kiss. “I’m not one to be shy.”

This. I really enjoy your analyses of Home and Asmundr, including your videos, but taking care of your mental health must always come first. Take all the time you need! Unfortunately, in regard to what's been going on in the entertainment industry, as a fellow aspiring writer, world-builder, and artist, I've been fearing the same thing. It is such an unfortunate time for aspiring writers like us when we have all these incompetent writers at Disney, DC/Marvel, Netflix, Amazon Prime (who did the atrocious and cringe Wheel of Time and Rings of Power), HBO Max (Velma, The Witcher), and even the gaming industry (Veilguard, Dustborn, etc.) overshadowing competent writers and overlooked stories that deserve the attention. I love how we are oh-so against colonialism, and yet we are actively trying to interfere in other cultures of media such as Japan, trying to force them to censor shit and force in "diversity" (which actually isn't diversity at all because it NEVER feels genuine ever) so they can appeal to us Westerners. Why must we always Americanize everything?? Greek, Rome, the British Empire, human beings in the past have done this, and we still have not learned our lesson. Japan has had tons of diversity in the forms of LGBT and non-Asian groups. Look no further than Bleach, Shingeki no Kyojin/Attack on Titan, and My Hero Academia, to name a few. Also, Baldur's Gate 3 has GREAT characterization, and its LGBT characters actually feel genuine, they feel like REAL people and not just shoved in there to check a box. I also recommend Outlander, as they handle a lot of heavy subjects correctly unlike Kique's mishandling of such subjects, and have real strong female characters and a well-written gay character (again, unlike Kique's LGBT and female characters). All this BS has done is just divide us even more, give the actual far-right more ammunition to harass marginalized communities, and enable bad writers and the lowest common denominator who will just eat up whatever they put out simply because it shares the name of a popular brand. Honestly, it all just reminds me of Kique. His characters are so badly-written and do terrible things, and yet do not face accountability for the awful shit they do, they are rewarded and coddled by Kique and the narrative, and their problematic behaviors are justified and viewed as forgivable (Rogio's "mentally bound in chains" bs)... unless they are characters that Kique doesn't like anymore (Khellir/Marduk, Aira, the Bayou dogs). His fans just enable his bad behavior, see him as the victim, and blindly consume his bad writing quality, attack anyone who criticizes his works, while Kique just blocks anyone who questions him or his characters. The more people accept badly-written works, the more we are going to get badly-written stories. Just, what are we even teaching our generation?? How are we supposed to create and build better writers if we're enabling incompetent writing?

I honestly wish there was more xenofiction out there, and I wish more xenofiction would be made into movies. But America doesn't give a shit about high-quality animal xenofiction unless its by the Erin Hunters, and even then they don't bother adapt them. Because animal xenofiction gets the same mistreatment as animation, that they are "for children". All these Disney "live-action" remakes are doing, aside from dividing the fanbases the same way their Star Wars trilogy had divided the Star Wars fandom (not even the PREQUELS divided the fanbase this badly apparently, to the point you can't even critique them without the convo turning political), is perpetuating the false-narrative that traditional animation is somehow not true art and is childish. And it is unfortunately going to continue with the upcoming remakes of Snow White, Lilo & Stitch, How to Train Your Dragon, Moana, the live-action remakes' sequels that nobody asked for, and the upcoming Mufasa prequel, which looks horrendous and appears to be retconning Mufasa's origin-story. Not just in the original movie, but also in the remake since it was a shot-by-shot CGI "live-action" soulless cashgrab of the animated film. I guess they're still in that "sympathetic villain" phase of "Um, actually, these so-called "villains" the previous problematic writers wanted you to hate, they are actually misunderstood and oppressed by the society that shaped them, and the heroes you were supposed to root for are the real oppressors!" Like the Acolyte did with the Jedi and the Sith, Disney to Luke Skywalker, etc. Even if it was in the original draft of the 2D-animated film, making Scar and Mufasa unrelated to each other also messes up Simba's character arc and his legitimacy to the throne. How is he the heir to the throne here if Mufasa was never biologically related to Scar in the first place? Simba defeating Scar was impactful because it was the rightful heir taking back his homeland from its usurper. It was inspired by Hamlet ffs. It baffles me how so many people have just been gushing over the uncanny facial expressions on the ugly CGI photo-realistic lions, and ignoring the fact that this massive-ass retcon completely ruins the great kings of the past, their generational ties to Pride Rock, Mufasa's relationship with Scar, Mufasa's bloodline and Simba's status as the rightful heir, and Simba's ultimate return to the Pridelands after avoiding his responsibilities for so long. Ugh...

I HIGHLY recomend watching The Wild Robot, Outlander (also read the books), and Baldur's Gate 3. I also heard the recent Wicked movie was a surprising hit, and I'm looking forward to seeing that.

So I just wanted to put a little update because I haven't done one in a while! I'm still around and try to keep up with what our little Tumblr group does. Sadly, I still have my medical issues. And while that is part of the reason that I've not been as active with Home related matters, the other is that I've gotten pulled into Honkai Star Rail/other games and been writing my own fanfictions again. I'm a writer at heart, always have been and it's why I've been critical of Home. However I do have to acknowledge that when you consume great products or write your own material, after you view shoddy works like what Kique does, it puts you in an awkward position. 

On one hand, from a creative standpoint, you should invest your time on what you love. Investing in Kique's story and IP (intellectual property) takes time away from working on my personal stories and enjoying my favorite games. On the other, bringing awareness to bad media has a dual effect. First it allows upcoming creators and consumers to understand why a story doesn't work and to not fall into the same pitfalls. Also, since Kique just will not allow public criticism it shows that people actually do have strong opinions to what he is doing and the comic isn't as perfect as one would think. 

While I try not to allow IRL politics/gaming discourse into what I do online it has gotten so bad lately that I'm starting to wonder if competent writers will still be around in a few years. I say that because there is a noticeable drop in quality within the entertainment industry. If you want to see examples, see what is happening in the DC/Marvel comics scene, see how Disney has degraded it's “live action” stories of the Golden Age and Star Wars, see games such as Dustborn, Concord, Dragon Age: Veilguard, Assassin's Creed Shadows, and Avowed. See how Visa/Mastercard force Japanese and other companies to enforce censorship measures or they won't do business with them. Yes, there are good games that have come out that have done exceptionally well, but the amount of BAD games/media is alarming. 

So what does this mean for me? I do want to still contribute to Home because what I'm seeing in the newest pages leaves a lot to be desired. But I'm not going to delude myself into believing that I can do my videos, which has been the medium that I've been using up until this point. Part of that again is my medical problems, my computer also needs to be replaced,  and the other is a lack of time. Compiling the pictures needed is a very time consuming task for the videos. I'm a one person army and it can become a daunting task. I do like the video format because it seems to be what a lot of people enjoy, but I just can't commit right now. 

What IS easy for me however, is writing. So what I'll be doing for the time being is dropping my video scripts. They can range from a specific topic that I'm interested in exploring, or a complete chapter breakdown which I actually enjoy doing. If time ever allows, I will make a video to accompany them with pictures and other important details but I need to do what is feasibly easier to crank out. 

So that is what you can expect for me for the time being. I'm getting my thoughts together and finishing the script for the Antagonist piece I was doing so I'll drop that as soon as I finish it. Again, these won't have pictures as I'm running them like a script but I'll try to include page numbers/links for references.

Could you explain the "Unless you want to have the same level of writing as the live action Beauty and the Beast"?

As someone who hasn't seen the movie I'm both confused and intrigued-

A lot of the writing in the live-action Beauty and the Beast came across as trying to address “criticisms” that you’d see a lot of bad faith articles and “Cinema Sins” style youtube videos would complain about.

This resulted in making Belle more of a “Feminist Icon:tm: “ by showing how strong and independent she is. It’s not just that she enjoys reading, she tries to teach the other girls to read too! And also now the people in town ALL think women shouldn’t be reading! And also she makes inventions too! See, she’s not just a helpless damsel in distress!

Not to mention trying to explain shit nobody cared about and we need to explain EVERYTHING and point out how weird it is. “Wow it’s so weird I’m talking to a candle!” “Hahaha stupid Belle not EVERYTHING in the castle is alive!” because there’s a bunch of articles and internet think pieces on “is everything in the castle alive?? hahahah what about the toilet then hahahahah”

and also “The beast is an asshole because his father was abusive towards him!” and also “See the servants being turned into items is also punishment for not intervening when the father abused the beast as a human child!” Because there’s like 50 000 articles out there going ‘lol isn’t it messed up the servants got turned into objects for their Prince’s shitty behaviour??” and then the live-action movie tries to go on the defensive to explain “no see there’s actually a perfectly rational explanation for why this is a thing that happened. Here, let’s have the characters sit Belle down and explain every detail to her because we don’t want to audience to buy into the reality that this is a fairy tale and sometimes shit is just magic for the story’s sake.”

the entire movie is over-explained not only in the minor details or world-building but also in larger plot points as well as character motivations. Because rather than treating internet think-pieces like the over-indulgent pseudo-intellectual trite that they are, Disney instead acted like a redditor who gets REALLY bent out of shape if you dare to question his internal logic and instead decided to not only address most of the bad-takes on the original Beauty and the Beast, but to do so in the most condescending and passive-aggressive way possible.

As a result, the live-action version of the movie is less a live-action fairy tale operating on the logic of cinema and magic like the original, but a horrific nightmare blend of self-aware new-age Disney a la Frozen, Moana and ESPECIALLY Ralph Breaks the Internet, where we can’t just have Disney tropes but we have to point OUT the cliche nature of these Disney tropes in a desperate attempt to reassure the audience that you are indeed “hip with the kids” and self-aware, but instead comes across as completely lacking in confidence in your own stories at best or as condescending bitter assholes at worse.

So the Live Action Beauty and the Beast is not a live-action remake of the original as much as it is a debate club where Disney is trying to argue against stupid hot takes from youtube cinema critics who still insist that Belle must have Stockholm syndrome and that Ariel sold her soul for a man she just met. Making it a hollow, joyless, cynical piece of “WELL ACTUALLY” instead of.... you know.... a MOVIE.
