In other news Iâm watching the twitter firestorm around this youtube review guy who gave a really mean review of the new xenoblade game and then posted a massive endgame spoiler on twitter with no warning, and first off the guyâs obviously an asshole, but second the discourse is taking some wild turns because this dude apparently has a History of hating JRPGs and giving bad reviews to most of the ones he touches, and everyoneâs getting bogged down in the question of âWhy does he keep playing and reviewing JRPGs when he clearly hates the genre?â, but like. Looking in from the outside, I think a more important question here is âWhy canât this guy wrangle his hatred of the genre enough to engage with these games in good faith?â.
Because like, the problem here isnât âGuy plays JRPGs even though he dislikes the genre because he hopes that at some point heâll find a JRPG he genuinely likesâ, itâs âGuy plays JRPGs even though he dislikes the genre, and then shits on the games for elements that are part of the basic fun and appeal of said genre while constantly framing said games in bad faithâ. Engaging with a work in a genre that youâre normally not interested in is perfectly fine, but you still have to meet that work where itâs at instead of being shocked and appalled when said work dares commit the crime of being the genre itâs in. Like, I donât like FPS games, but if I did pick one up for whatever reason Iâm not going to complain about the game being bad because itâs an FPS, and genres like JRPGs deserve that same respect.
Obviously this doesnât mean that these games and genres can never be criticized ever, or that pointing out their flaws isnât important, but like. Thatâs a step 3 process at earliest, and one you can fuck up completely if you try to speedrun it. You still have to be willing to engage with a work in good faith in order to criticize it fairly. Youâre not going to be able to genuinely explain âOkay, hereâs the Flaws and Problemsâ with this thing if your standards for flaws are something like âcontains literally any anime at all in itâ. If you genuinely canât bring yourself to do that, you probably shouldnât write a public review of the game.

killshot anon! YEAH i totally agree w/ your view on kaeya. it's so weird to me that people will blame him for his role in a situation he was forced into as a child through no choice of his own. that itself had to be traumatic, not to mention everything that happened later. i hate when people say he's untrustworthy - like yeah, he's lied, so has everyone? it's clear he does it mostly to protect himself. not to mention that (& sadism) can be symptoms of trauma. kaeya deserves nothing but happiness
take a seat folks itâs time for a âbrynn shouldâve been an english majorâ lesson! today weâre gonna learn some literary theory; specifically, weâre gonna apply psychoanalytical trauma theory to kaeyaâs backstory and current character. killshot anon i bet you never thought this would result in a whole ass essay.
disclaimer one! you are allowed to dislike kaeya! i am not saying you need to like him or his character, youâre entitled to your opinion and iâm not here to change your mind.
disclaimer two! i am in no way an expert and this is all for fun! this is just my silly little analysis of one of my favorite characters as someone whoâs studied literary theory and rhetoric and can also apply personal experience. seriously analysis is like a hobby to me and this is just an excuse for me to ramble about kaeya.
disclaimer three! this contains lots of spoilers! basically for everything we know in-game, general knowledge as well as stuff from his voicelines and character story. donât read this if you donât want spoilers.
since this is going to be filled with spoilers and is about to get really long, everything will be under a cut. for those who wanna read my dumb super informal essay: enjoy!
final note: yeah this is over 2000 words long can you tell i like analysis
â
letâs start by getting a quick rundown of trauma theory out of the way. to begin, what is âtrauma?â in this case, trauma is going to refer to an experience that greatly affects and changes oneâs life; attitudes, memories, behaviors, mental state, etc. while not all changes may be bad, per se, the overall effect of trauma is generally a negative one, which is why itâs so significant. literary trauma theory, then, explores these changes and the impact of trauma in literature. it analyzes the psychological and social effects of trauma, explaining what those effects are and why they happen. in the context of a specific character, trauma theory breaks down said characterâs behaviors, feelings, and general mentality in relation to their past experiences; trauma theory hopes to explain to others the reasons for why a character may act or feel the way they do, all based upon the characterâs experiences, particularly traumatic ones. our character today is the lovely kaeya alberich, with the âliteratureâ being genshin impact. iâll be referencing kaeyaâs wiki page to ensure i get all details correct for his character story and voicelines.
it would be good to review kaeyaâs backstory before delving into the actual analysis. though we donât know much about his life before living in mondstadt, weâre told he was sent as an agent of khaenriâah. and by âsent,â i mean his biological father abandoned him in a completely unfamiliar land to serve khaenriâahâs interests and fullfil his missionâwhat this entirely entails hasnât been revealed. mondstadt, however, welcomed kaeya âwith open arms when they found him.â crepus ragnvindr took him in as his adopted son, with diluc as his adopted brother. kaeya and diluc were âalmost like twins,â so close they â[knew] each otherâs thoughts and intentions without a word.â heâd began a new life in mondstadt, one surrounded by friends and family that loved him; one that was completely shattered by crepusâs death. kaeya arrived at the scene of the disaster, and was led to believe diluc was the one who killed their father to âset his father freeâ from the effects of his delusion. thereâd always been one big question in kaeyaâs life: if it came down to it, who would he support? the nation that abandoned him, but he still felt loyal to, or the nation and family that took him in and really loved him? overrun with guilt, kaeya confessed his purpose to diluc, sparking a fight between the two brothers. in this fight, kaeya receives his cryo vision. though both brothers stepped away alive, theyâve never been able to make peace with one another. now, kaeya is the eccentric and charming cavalry captain of the knights of favonius; a man who gets his way by using any means necessary, regardless of whether or not it seems right.
kaeyaâs not evil; heâs morally ambiguous, and that stems from what appears to be a general distrust of others. his life is one shrouded in secrecy. from the moment he stepped foot into mondstadt, he was surrounded by secrets. even now, he doesnât talk about a lot of things, namely his past, vision, and feelings. though heâs always willing to get information out of others, kaeya never reveals anything about himself. he repeatedly tells the player they can confide in him, but whenever you try and pry into his life, he deflects your questions with some sort of witty comment or flirty remark. anything he does reveal is vague, or spoken in some sort of âcode.â for example, his âinteresting thingsâ voiceline. he tells us about the owl of dragonspine, how it âseems to look right through you, while letting go of none of its own secrets,â and then tacks on a âquite fascinating, donât you think?â it seems like an awfully accurate parallel to himself; kaeya does all he can to get information from others, but never gives anything about himself. now, this whole thingâhis relationship with diluc falling apart and his need for secrecyâcould have probably been avoided if he had just come clean about his mission years ago. so why didnât he? to start, kaeya was a literal child. not only are children unable to properly tell the difference between right and wrong, but theyâll also typically follow their parentsâ orders blindly. kaeya had just been abandoned, and he wouldnât want to risk being cast out by mondstadt as well if he came clean right away. you see, thereâs this thing about trauma, something that trauma theory states. traumatized people feel a sort of shame or guilt regarding their traumatic experience; theyâll keep quiet because they donât want to cause problems or bother others with their issues. of course kaeya wouldnât tell the truth about his past, he doesnât want to destroy the genuinely loving relationships heâd built in mondstadt. his fight with diluc only proves what he was afraid of: if heâs honest, heâll be abandoned again. and if kaeyaâs used to all the lies, why should he bother changing?
another thing, if heâs not going to tell the truth, then why would he have initially gone along with his fatherâs plans? again, he was a child. he really had no choice, and was forced into a very wrong and cruel situation. thereâs a good explanation for this, too, which is also stated in trauma theory; traumatized people will still do their best to please their abusers. especially if said abuser is a parent, that will drive traumatized people to work even harder to please them. although his father hurt him by ruthlessly abandoning him, kaeya still sought to make him and his homeland proud. he was willing to be used as a tool for their gain; that is, until he found people who actually cared about him. he was an impressionable child, of course heâs going to obey orders. but as he gets older, he feels torn. does he serve those who abandoned him, or those that took him in? his fatherâand arguably, khaenriâah as a wholeâhurt him, sure, but he still feels some loyalty and connection to his former home. instead of revealing anything, he lets the situation play out. that way, he canât be blamed when things fall apart.
the thing about claiming heâs untrustworthy is that hardly anyone in-game believes that. heâs adored by the older folks in mondstadt, and foes and allies alike find him easy to talk to. despite seeming lazy and uninterested in work, kaeya takes his job very seriously. in fact, his story states that crepusâs death was the âfirst and only time kaeya failed in his duty.â the âonly timeâ is especially important, because it signifies kaeya still fulfills his duties successfully. heâs had a total of one slip-up, and hasnât failed since. no, kaeya is not untrustworthy. rather, kaeya finds everyone else untrustworthy. itâs not unlikely that this is a direct consequence of being abandoned as a child. although itâs been established that kaeya and diluc were very close as children, when crepus dies, kaeya assumes diluc is the one that killed him. in order to jump to such an extreme conclusion against someone he was so close to, there had to be some underlying sense of distrust. furthermore, kaeya expresses feeling as though he doesnât belong anywhere. he was abandoned by khaenriâah, and then worried he wouldnât be accepted by mondstadt. he is, but thereâs still that worry. if you place him in your teapot as a companion, he tells you that your home feels like someplace he belongs, following it up with a âheh, whoâd have thoughtâŠâ kaeya still feels as though he doesnât belong in mondstadt; despite the fact that heâs a high-ranking knight of favonius and rather popular, he still feels like an outsider. he doesnât trust that anyone actually wants him around, and he finds joy in testing peoplesâ trustworthiness. itâs noted in his story and through his voicelines that the beloved cavalry captain has a rather sadistic nature. he likes putting people into difficult situations, to see what decisions they will make. he does this to both opponents and allies, testing to see whoâs going to back out and whoâll keep fighting; in the sake of allies, who can he trust? or who will turn tail and abandon their teammates at the slightest hint of danger? i mentioned it previously, but kaeya doesnât care what measures he has to take so long as his job gets done and he gets the answers he wants. itâs a sort of self-preserving mindset, putting himself above the safety of others. kaeyaâs trying to protect himself, which makes sense with all heâs been through. he doesnât want to be hurt, and instead finds pleasure in threatening harm upon others. itâs twisted, sure, but itâs because he can only trust himself in a world that he believes is out to get him. heâs got as many enemiesâif not moreâas he does allies; of course kaeya focuses on protecting himself first, whether physically or through keeping his secrets, well, secret.
his most obvious traumatic effect is definitely his alcoholism. but he uses it as a distraction, not just to wallow in self-pity. this is seen again in his story, particularly in story 3. itâs found that when his favorite drink, death after noon, is out of season, mondstadtâs crime rate is decreased drastically. at face value, this just means kaeya spends more time working when death after noon is low in supply. but kaeya doesnât skip work to go to taverns; itâs already been established he takes his job very seriously, so this means he actually patrols and tracks down threats while off work when he canât indulge in his favorite alcoholic drink. he doesnât get drunk simply because heâs depressed. if he did, there wouldnât be a drop in incidents when death after noon is out of season. no, kaeya uses both the alcohol and fighting to distract himself. after all, itâs a little hard to think about feeling sad when youâre either drunk out of your mind or fighting for your life.
despite being so secretive, kaeya gives us glimpses of his true emotions from time to time. as previously mentioned, his flirty attitude is nothing more than a mask to hide how he really feels; and kaeya is terribly, terribly lonely. that may be why he seems so extroverted. constantly being around people should, logically, drive away that feeling, but it doesnât work like that. when he talks with the player, he frequently expresses disappointment when you have to leave. each time, though, he dampens the weight of his words with playful or flirty language. heâs lonely, but doesnât want you to know that, like heâs afraid of asking you to stay. he takes the seriousness of his feelings, and basically bends it into some sort of lighthearted joke. kaeya hides his true feelingsânegative feelings, to be exactâso that he doesnât bother anyone. which is, again, something that happens with traumatized people. he displays that hesitance to reveal his true feelings, because thereâs a shame or guilt that comes with his past. he doesnât want to bother others or hold them back, so he puts on a smile and amps up the charisma. one other very important thingâbut very small detailâi would like to note is his feelings toward family. his fell apart not even once, but twice, and kaeya still holds familial relationships in high regard. we know he doesnât exactly care how he goes about getting his work done. he doesnât pay attention to whatâs ârightâ or âwrong,â so long as he gets what he needs. but one of his informants, vile, notes that the cavalry captain has one exception: he wonât work with those who threaten othersâ families. in fact, kaeya claims those who do should be hunted down and destroyed. even though his own families have caused him so much painâand he ended up estranged from bothâhe still understands the importance of having people who love you in your life. because he didnât get that.
kaeyaâs not evil. ultimately, as a knight of favonius, his goal is to protect others, because no one was there to protect him. and because no one was there to protect him, because heâs been hurt time and time again by people who were supposed to love him, kaeya has taken to protecting himself. he hides any and all negative feelings with a charismatic, friendly façade, because he thinks itâll drive away his persistent loneliness. any âbadâ actions of his were hardly his fault; he was forced into a life of secrecy and lies, and then abandoned by the first people who truly loved him. kaeyaâs a multi-faceted, tragic character, one that toes the line between good and evil, and thatâs what makes him so interesting.

if you donât know, let me go - f.w
Pairing: Fred x Fem!Slytherin!Reader Summary: Itâs always seemed like theyâve been dancing the line between friends and more, so why does he take a different girl to the ball? Warnings: Some swearing, pining that one character is too much of a dummy to see, a bit of angst but it eventually becomes fluff I promise, jealousy but nothing toxic, underage drinking but itâs like one line. Word Count: 5.8k
A/N: This is my first fanfiction in literally forever, so any feedback is always appreciated! Requests are open if you like this and want more! âDo you think heâs going to ask you?âÂ
Itâs Wednesday afternoon, late enough for class to be over but too early for dinner and Y/Nâs attempt at understanding anything in her potions textbook is broken by Alicia Spinnet talking to her. Despite the fact she hadnât said a name, Y/N knows immediately who she was talking about and she shrugs in response, closing her book and accepting that studying was not on the table for the rest of the night now the ball has been mentioned.Â
âProbably not.â She deadpans. Y/Nâs been trying not to get her hopes up that Fred would ask her to the Yule Ball since it was announced three days ago. Aliciaâs already been asked by George- who immediately did a dramatic reenactment of some muggle proposal heâd seen in a movie as soon as Dumbledore announced it. But Fred had been more reluctant to ask anyone, despite peopleâs assumption that he could get anyone he pleased. Y/N only hoped this was because he was too shy of taking whatever they were from friends to lovers.
No one really understood how the outspoken and mischievous redhead became friends with the snarky Slytherin girl, but 6 years into their schooling people have stopped questioning it. They had formed an unexplainable bond the second they met on the train to Hogwarts when they were eleven years old that may have included both shouting at blood purists and now it seems to have evolved into something beyond just a friendship.Â
Lingering stares, soft touches, the fact neither of them had really dated anyone else because they were too caught up with each other. Everyone, including their friends, have all placed bets on how long itâll take for the two of them to âfess up and finally get together.
âWhat makes you say that?â Alicia asks, genuinely. Sheâs heard first hand the teasing George and Lee give Fred over his feelings for Y/N in the Gryffindor common room when they think theyâre alone so she finds it hard to believe he hasnât even hinted at them going together yet.Â
Y/N shrugs. âI just think if he wanted to go with me, heâd ask me by now⊠Yâknow?â Alicia canât really deny her logic. Fredâs never been the one to shy away from being outspoken about anything really in the whole six years sheâs known him, so even she can admit itâs weird that Fred hasnât asked her.
âMaybe he just assumes you guys are going together?â Alicia starts, and before Y/N can argue back, she holds up a hand, âIâll ask him after dinner tonight. I can guarantee Lee or George will join in and youâll have your date by Transfiguration tomorrow!â Y/N shakes her head and laughs, and starts packing her things, mumbling about Alicia is a meddler and that sheâll see her later.
-
Y/Nâs walking to the Great Hall for dinner when it happens. Adrian Pucey, star quidditch chaser for the Slytherin team slinks up next to her and scares her enough to almost drop the books she has clutched in her hands. Sheâs never had a problem with Adrian- their parents are in similar friendship circles so she sees him at family friend events outside of school, but sheâs never considered him a friend either, which is why his approach to her is so odd.
âSorry about that,â he laughs, shoving his hands in his pockets as Y/N clutches her chest. âI didnât mean to scare you.âÂ
âNo, no, itâs fine,â she starts, âYouâre just very quiet. Iâm used to being almost tackled to the ground when I see friends.â She laughs, but she doesnât miss the awkward tension in the air and she canât help but assume whatâs coming next.Â
âI just wanted to ask if, uh, if you donât have a date to the ball⊠If youâd like to go with me?âÂ
Y/N gulps. She knows she shouldnât be putting all her eggs in the Fred Weasley marked basket, but she canât help but remember her conversation with Alicia only an hour ago.
âYouâll have your date by Transfiguration tomorrow!â
Adrian senses her hesitation and lets out a breath that sounds like heâs almost laughing. âYouâre waiting for one of Weasley twins to ask you, arenât you? Fred, right?â She hates how easily he caught on.
âAdrian, I- Ugh, Iâm sorry. But yeah⊠I am.â She feels her cheeks heat up in embarrassment at someone sheâs not even friends with pointing it out. She canât help but think maybe this is a sign though, that if everyone else is expecting it, why hasnât he asked her yet?Â
âNo, itâs all good. But the offers on the table if heâs too pussy to ask you out.â He gives a kind smile as he walks off to catch up with Marcus Flint whoâs drilling Malfoy about quidditch plays.
She exhales slowly and finally makes it to the Great Hall. She scans the tables looking for her closest friend in Slytherin- Daphne Greengrass and once she finds her, she quickly makes her way over to her. Dinner is relatively uneventful since sheâs sitting with her house, and George manages to catch her eye at one point and mouths âmiss youâ to which she laughs and says she misses him back.
Sheâs about to get up and leave when the last thing she expects to happen, happens. She hears Ron exclaim loudly that Fred canât make fun of him for not having a date because he doesnât have one either. Y/N feels her heart start to race, knowing if anyoneâs going to prove a point to Ron, itâll be Fred Weasley. She doesnât hear what Fredâs reply is but Harry and Ron both scoff, and one of them says âask a girl out if itâs so easy then.âÂ
Y/Nâs about to approach the Gryffindor table when Georgeâs eye catches her, and he shakes his head. Fred has already thrown a scrunched-up piece of paper at Angelina and her heart sinks.Â
âAngelina! Will you go to the ball with me?âÂ
As Angelina laughs and says yes to Fred, it feels like the whole Great Hall is either watching their altercation or watching Y/N in pity. Her heart now feels like itâs in her throat, and she needs to get out of the room before she cries or yells at Fred. She pivots on her heel and is met face-to-face with Daphne, who nods in silent agreement that theyâre going back to their dorm.Â
Y/N is halfway down the long tables with the door in her sights when she spots Adrian out of the peripheral of her eye. She can tell heâs looking at her in pity and in a weird way, she feels the need to show defiance against Fred Weasley. She needs to show she doesnât need pity, especially right now, that she can get a date herself. So she stops in front of the Slytherin quidditch team and slightly smirks.Â
âThat offer to the ball still on the table?âÂ
-
Daphne spends the night taking Y/Nâs mind off the Weasley family. They sit in their dorm together, once again trying to study for potions which eventually leads into ball talk yet again. Daphne can tell the idea of going to the ball with anyone who isn't Fred is unnerving for Y/N, but thereâs no backing down now.
âThat was kind of a badass move, yâknow?â She starts, treading lightly as they eventually reach the elephant in the room, âAsking Adrian after what happened.â
It doesnât feel badass to Y/N. She feels like sheâs cheating on the redhead that owns her heart, but she knows thatâs ridiculous. Fred clearly has no form of feelings for her and sheâs decided to get over him.Â
âItâs nothingâŠâ She starts and she sees Daphneâs eyebrows raise. Theyâve been roommates every year since they started school together so theyâre both aware this is a big lie. âI didnât want to go alone. Everyone else had dates already and Adrianâs nice. Plus, he did ask me beforeâŠâ
Daphne nods, not wanting to press further. âHave you got a dress yet?â It had said on their packing list for the school year to bring a dress or dress robes so everyoneâs already well prepared. Y/N nods and walks towards the closet before pulling out a floor-length silver gown with lace detailing. She smiles shyly as Daphne gasps in awe.Â
âEat your heart out, Fred Weasley!â For the first time all night, Y/N laughs. She knows sheâs going to look stunning in the dress and while she has no ill resentment towards Angelina for agreeing to go with Fred, she canât help but feel a little bit coy knowing Fredâs going to see her in it.Â
-Â
Sheâs sitting at her desk in Transfiguration the next day when he finally acknowledges her presence. Sheâs twiddling her quill in her fingers, dreading the moment the troublemaker waltzes into the class. His usual seat is the one next to her, while George and Lee sit in front of them but she can only hope Alicia takes the hint and sits with her before Fred does.
She doesnât get her wish. Sheâs about two seconds away from dozing off when the seat screeches against the hardwood flooring below them and she looks to her left to see Fred smirking.
âHi love,'' he starts, the nickname not feeling out of ordinary, âI feel like I havenât seen you in ages.â He says, and itâs true. He hadnât seen her since class yesterday. He had looked for her before dinner to tell her about the prank heâd pulled on Filch with George while she was studying and heâd barely seen her during dinner.Â
Her heart starts to speed up at the nickname, and she forces down the bile she feels growing in her throat. âYeah, I just ate dinner and went to bed yesterday. Been studying for potions. Sixth year is hard.â Sheâs trying to be short and sweet and maybe a little blunt but Fred doesnât pick up on it. âHeard you asked Angelina to the ball too.â Sheâs hoping to whoeverâs listening to her prayers that the jealousy isnât evident in her voice and by the dopey smile that grows on Fredâs face, her prayers were answered.
âYeah! Ron was being such a prat, telling me I couldnât make fun of him forâŠâ But she drowns his voice out. It might be a bitch move, but she really doesnât need to hear the who, where, when and why he asked Angelina out. Itâs clear to Y/N that Fred didnât even notice her existence at dinner and that stings more than sheâd like to admit.Â
She can barely concentrate during class. Fred has never really shown to care about any academic success, so he spends the entire period trying to entertain Y/N and get her to speak to him but sheâs being stubborn and Fred canât help but wonder what he did wrong. He starts to think maybe sheâs just had a bad day, but when the bell rings and she storms off without even saying goodbye to him heâs dumbfounded.
âTrouble in paradise, brother?â George teases when he sees the frown adorned on Fredâs face.Â
âHave I done anything to upset Y/N?â He questions and he sees the way George and Lee both give each other a look. They know something he doesnât and that leaves a feeling of uneasiness in his chest. Y/N and himself have always been closer than her and George and especially her and Lee. He was there for her when her parents were fighting constantly when she was 11 and when Marcus Flint started bullying her in 3rd year. He was even there when she cried to him last year about the guy she loved and how he was so stupidly blind to her feelings and while she didnât give a name, Fred was dying to go punch whoever it was for not realising he had his best friendâs heart.
âIf you have, itâs not up for us to tell you, mate.â Lee states and he hides behind George when he notices the scowl on Fredâs face. Lee knows better than to get between him and Y/N, but he isnât wrong.Â
âLook, Alicia said she was fine when they left the library yesterday evening,â George starts, and he knows he shouldnât be lying to his brother and best friend, but itâs not a huge lie, and maybe itâll push his oblivious brother to realise what he did to upset his best friend, âShe was at dinner last night when you asked Angie to the ball and then she went to her dorm with Daphne. Heard something about her saying yes to Adrian Pucey asking her to the ballâŠâ While George made extra emphasis on the fact Y/N witnessed Fred asking Angelina to the ball, Fredâs eyes glaze over in rage when George mentions Adrian and he has a feeling his twin has got the wrong idea.
âI bet Adrian did something to her. Fuck him, honestly.â And before George and Lee can stop him, Fredâs stalking out of the classroom with Adrian Pucey in his sights.
-Â
Fred doesnât find Adrian until later that afternoon, standing on the pitch and clad in his quidditch robes, yelling at someone who Fred assumes is Montague. He thinks now is probably a bad time to confront him, but he's blinded by the thought that heâs hurt Y/N.Â
âPucey!â He shouts and when Adrian turns around, he chuckles and smirks at Fred. He was expected this later rather than sooner, specifically during dinner, but he guesses now will have to do.Â
âWhat?â He asks, but they both know why heâs here and heâs just enjoying riling Fred up.Â
âWhat did you do Y/N?â Adrian scoffs at this and shakes his head which confuses Fred. âWhat did I do to Y/N?â Fred stands his ground, chest puffed up. Adrian might be a fair bit shorter than Fred but Adrian hasnât got anything to be scared of. Sure heâs seen Fred throw a punch or two and heâs definitely been on the receiving end of a bludger from the Weasley during a game, but he knows he isnât the one that hurt Y/N here.Â
âI think you should be asking yourself that, mate. Y/N only agreed to going to the ball with me after you asked Angelina out right in front of her.â This causes Fred to look at Adrian in confusion and Adrian laughs at Fred again. Heâs confused, why would asking Angelina out hurt Y/N?Â
It turns out he said that out loud, because two seconds later Adrian is responding to him, âBecause she was expecting you to ask her, Weasley.âÂ
Adrian doesnât even wait for Fredâs reply before stalking off to the Slytherin change rooms and Fredâs left standing on the pitch, wondering why the ache in his chest is almost debilitating at the thought of hurting Y/N and questioning why he feels the need to throw up knowing sheâs happily going with Adrian Pucey.Â
-
Fredâs next port of call is finding Y/N. After his talk with Adrian, he needs to find out why she expected him to ask her to the ball. He wouldâve happily gone with her, but to Fred, she hadnât even dropped a single hint at wanting to go with him and when sheâs finally located, sheâs in the library with Daphne.Â
âThis is my exit cue,â Daphne mutters as she notices the redhead roaming around the library looking for Y/N. She doesnât even have a moment to question Daphne before the seat in front of her is suddenly occupied by the last person she was hoping to see again.
âWhy are you going with Pucey?â Is the first thing that leaves Fredâs mouth, and it wasnât what Y/N was expecting. She splutters, only for a few seconds, before eventually replying.
âHe asked me.âÂ
Fredâs eyebrows furrow, but didnât Pucey say she wanted to go with him? âA little birdie said you wanted to go with me. So, how come youâre going with him.â
Now Y/N scoffs and Fred canât help but notice how many people are scoffing at him today just for asking questions and itâs getting annoying. âYou didnât ask me. He did. So, I said yes. Donât understand why itâs such a big deal.â Sheâs intentionally being short, hopefully not spilling anything about her feelings for the boy in front of her.Â
âI didnât know you wanted to go with me, Y/N. How was I supposed to know?â At this, Y/N goes from feeling hurt to angry and she canât explain why her hands start to shake.Â
âHow were you supposed to know?â She exclaims loudly which causes her to receive a rather nasty âshâ from Madam Pince and a few O.W.L students surrounding her.Â
âHave you seen the way we act around each other Fred?â Sheâs now whisper yelling and the confused look on Fredâs face as she says this just aggravates her further and sheâs convinced no one is this daft and heâs pushing her buttons on purpose. âBecause everyone thinks weâre fucking dating already, Fred. You have to constantly be touching me, weâre always together, you call me darling and love and you kiss me on the forehead when I fucking bring you sugar quills from Hogsmeade because theyâre your favourite and whenever you have spare money you always buy me Honeydukes chocolate because you said you like seeing me blush when you buy me things. Youâre telling me now that weâre just friends?â
If the ache in Fredâs chest was almost debilitating on the quidditch pitch earlier, right now it feels like heâs about to go into cardiac arrest. Her cheeks are flushed, her fists are clenched, pieces of her hair are falling out of her bun thatâs resting on top of her head and, worst of all, Fredâs noticed the tears of anger and frustration pooling in her eyes.
She sighs before continuing, trying to compose herself so he doesnât see her crying over him, unaware heâs already noticed the tears threatening to fall. Her voice is sad and broken, and it feels like the ending point for her.Â
âI was just stupid enough to assume this year was the year we would finally admit weâre more than friends, Freddie. But I guess all this time itâs been one-sided. I hope you have a good time at the ball with Angelina.âÂ
Fred grabs her wrist as she starts to pack up her things and looks at her, scanning her face for any form of emotion. âLet me go, Fred.â She looks at him with pleading eyes and he lets go of the grasp he has on her wrist.
Fred doesnât try to stop her again as she hastily packs up her things and he sadly watches her leave the library without turning to look at him.Â
-
Y/N doesnât care if itâs considered dramatic, but she lays in bed and cries for the rest of the day. While she hasnât gone through a literal break-up, it feels like her friendship with Fred is over. At least, sheâs decided, itâs over until she gets over her feelings for him.Â
Daphne tries everything in her power to comfort her. She rubs her back, plays with her hair and even puts on ABBA to try and get Y/N to dance just to cheer her up. Y/N feels horrible sheâs basically conned Daphne into babysitting her breakdown but Daphne constantly reassures her itâs okay.Â
âDo you want me to go beat him up? I might be short and weak and heâs the size of a tree but I could take him.â Y/N sniffles a laugh at this, and smiles. Sheâs truly grateful for everything Daphneâs been doing for her and she makes a mental note to get her an extra special Christmas present next time she goes to Hogsmeade.Â
However, it turns out essentially ending the friendship with Fred ends her friendships with most of the Gryffindors. She was expecting this, but when George canât even meet her eye in class her heart breaks into even smaller pieces. George has always been like a brother to her, someone she could tell anything too without worry of being judged. He was the first person she told when she realised she liked Fred and Y/N was the first person, besides Fred, that George told his feelings for Alicia for.Â
Y/N feels alone but sheâs stubborn so she refuses to show it. She sits with Daphne in every class, essentially kicking poor Cassius Warrington whoâs been pining after Daphne for 3 years into a different spot in class and she sometimes even sits with Adrian during lunch. It turns out they have a lot more in common than just the fact theyâre in Slytherin and pure-bloods and Y/Nâs pain in her chest is slowly but surely disappearing.Â
While her feelings for Fred still exist, her heart slowly feels like itâs being mended. Itâs only when she spots Fred sulking during lunch one day that the ache returns. She was usually the one who he went too when feeling bad- him being too embarrassed to go to George. She hopes heâs okay, but she shakes the idea of approaching him, knowing heâs got Angelina to keep him company. The pang in her chest stays a little bit longer that day.Â
-
The Yule Ball arrives quicker than expected and Y/N and Daphne spend all day getting ready with a bunch of other Slytherin students. Itâs nice, while they donât all usually get along, the house loyalty between them is unmistakable.Â
Most of them are acutely aware of Y/Nâs âWeasley Situationâ and while some of them give her pity looks, most of the younger girls have expressed their jealousy that sheâs going with Adrian. This makes her laugh and shake her head and she often replies that boys arenât all that and no boy is worth being jealous over. She feels like a wise mother almost, never wanting them to feel the way sheâs felt the past few weeks.
Daphne and Y/N arrive at the Great Hall together, giggling about how bad Y/N is at walking in heels and placing bets on how quick theyâre going to come off. While Daphne is counting her galleons in her purse to confirm the bet, Y/N catches a glimpse of Fred and Angelina. He looks so handsome, his dress robes a mixture of gold and black and she canât help but think how well theyâd go together. But when she looks at Angelina she feels like sheâs going to pass out.
Angelina is stunning, and thereâs no doubt about it. Sheâs in a floor-length dark purple gown that compliments her skin perfectly and Y/N thinks if Fred was going with anyone to the ball, sheâs glad itâs Angelina.Â
Cassius and Adrian soon appear by the girls and take their arms into the Great Hall thatâs been transformed to look like a winter wonderland. The roof tonight is bewitched to look like a winter, snowy day and Y/N canât help but admire it. Sheâs grown up with magic her entire life, but she canât help but constantly be amazed.
Adrian pulls a flask out of his dress robes jacket which makes Y/N snort and he smiles happily at her. Of course he snuck Firewhiskey into the Ball. The action reminds her of something Fred would do and she shakes her head, trying to get the boy out of her mind, tonight of all nights.
âYou look beautiful tonight, by the way.â Adrian states as he takes a swig of the flask, and she feels her cheeks heat up. She can hear the sincerity in his voice. âYou donât scrub up so badly either, Pucey.âÂ
âA dance, mâlady?â He jokingly bows to Y/N and she smiles while she takes his hand and he leads her to the dance floor. As Adrian twirls Y/N around the dance floor, albeit messily because neither of them paid attention in dance classes held by Snape of all people, she forgets about the redhead whoâs stare is burning holes into the back of her head.
âYouâre a shit date, yâknow.â Angelina laughs and Fredâs broken out of his trance. âShit, Angie, Iâm so sorry.âÂ
Angelina isnât wrong. Sheâs a smart girl, and sheâs well aware of Fredâs longing stares towards the Slytherin girl. âDid you know? That you wanted to go with her?â Angelina questions, out of sheer curiosity. Even she was shocked when Fred asked her, but she was too dumbfounded when he asked and with everyone watching at dinner, the pressure to say yes was immense but it was not worth all the pain and heartache sheâs watched her two friends go through.Â
âAt the time? No, definitely not. SheâsâŠâ He trails off as he tries to find the right words, âSheâs always been there, yâknow? I just assumed sheâd be in my life forever and what we had was what weâd always be⊠It felt normal, like I didnât feel the way I feel about her with you, or Katie or Alicia but it felt like thatâs how youâre meant to feel about your girl best friend?âÂ
He looks over at them again, and the gross feeling of jealousy rises in his throat. âBut then she said yes to Pucey, and all I can think about is how no one should be holding her but me and that he'll walk her all the way back to her dorm tonight and probably kiss her and I feel like throwing up, and...â He pauses and looks at Angelina and the pity in her eyes is obvious. âAnd you donât think about your best friend like this.âÂ
Angelina watches in pity as Fred clearly drowns his sorrows in pumpkin juice and she drags him onto the dance floor. Sheâs not letting Fred have a bad night and she refuses to have one as well. Fred is one of her best friends, and even though she might not be the girl he wishes he was here with, sheâs determined to cheer him up somehow.Â
Fred finally starts to have a good time when he spots George slyly leading Alicia out of the Great Hall and he loudly wolf whistles causing a red hue to form on both their cheeks and George to flip Fred the bird as they leave. Angelina spots Y/N grab her purse across the room while Fredâs distracted and she quietly leaves just after George and Alicia.
Alone.
âY/N just left, Fred. Alone.â Fredâs confused why Angelina is telling him this when he looks over at Daphne and Adrian, who both look at him like âGo you fucking idiotâ and before he can even mutter a goodbye to his friends, heâs out the door almost as fast as George was.
-
He finds Y/N sitting on a bench in the courtyard. Sheâs looking up at the stars and Fred stars to recall last summer when she visited The Burrow. She spent all night trying to point out constellations to Fred and as he watches her mutter to herself, Fred wonders how he didnât realise that they were in love this entire time.
He clears his throat, careful not to startle Y/N and when she turns Fred can see the hesitation in her face as she quickly goes to jump up and leave.Â
âSorry, I shouldnât have stolen the prime make-out spot of the night.â She awkwardly laughs but then quickly realises Fred is alone. âNevermind⊠Whereâs Angelina?âÂ
Fred shrugs, and sits down on the bench she was sitting on originally. Y/N stands awkwardly before sitting down next to him. As much as she hates to admit it, sheâs missed being close to him. The warmth that radiates off him despite it being the middle of winter causes her to shuffle just that slightly bit closer to him and Fred canât help but smile.Â
âYou look beautiful tonight. I know Adrian probably told you already, at least I hope he did, but you deserve to know.â Fred could feel himself rambling and he doesnât miss the blush that rises across Y/Nâs neck and cheeks. Itâs the exact same blush that appears whenever he buys her chocolates and his heart soars.Â
âThanks Freddie,â the nickname feels foreign on her tongue, âyou look pretty handsome yourself. I hope Angelina told you.â She retaliates and Fred hates it. He hates the awkwardness between them. He wants nothing more to wrap his arms around her and hold her close but they feel like strangers.Â
âThanks,â he laughs and Y/N looks at him confused. âDid you have a good night?â
ïżœïżœCan we not have this awkward small talk? Iâm sure Angelinaâs waiting for you somewhere.â Fredâs taken aback by her abruptness and stares at her for a few seconds. âWhat?â She asks when she notices Fred looking at her like she has nine heads.
âAngelinaâs not waiting for me. Is Adrian waiting for you?â He asks but he doesnât want to know the answer. Heâs gone through a rollercoaster of emotions these past few weeks and he truly doesnât want to know if another man is waiting for her to sweep her off her feet and walk back to the Slytherin common room. But when she shakes her head, Fred lets out a breath he didnât realise he was holding.Â
âI need to apologise.â He blurts out and Fred wants to smack himself in the head. This was not the romantic moment he had envisioned in his head as he followed her outside into the courtyard. âI need to apologise for a lot of things. Mostly, for not realising how ridiculously in love with you I am, and also for not asking you to the ball and for ruining our friend-âÂ
âYou didnât ruin our friendship.â She cuts him off but she doesnât know what else to say. âYou didnât. I did, if anything.â Fred has to stop himself from starting an argument on who ruined the friendship but he wants to backtrack. Did Y/N just ignore him confessing his love to her?Â
âWell, Iâm still sorry for not realising how ridiculously in love with you I am?â He tries again sheepishly and Y/N gives him a double-take. She heard him the first time but she was convinced it was just her ears playing tricks on her or Fred being a menace. After all, this is Fred Weasley in front of her, heâs always looking for a joke and as sheâs about to accuse him of pulling a sick, twisted prank on her, she looks at him properly.
And heâs looking as serious as he did the day he told her he plans to open a joke shop with George after they graduate.Â
âYouâre in love with me?â She asks quietly and her heart is racing again. She thinks back to the day she accidentally confessed to Fred and how sheâs spent the last few weeks trying to fall out of love with him just for him to admit heâs fallen in love with her. âFred, if this is some sick and twisted joke I will never forgive you.âÂ
Fred almost looks hurt at this, that she thinks heâs capable of something that cruel. So instead of speaking, he softly cups her face in both his hands and runs his thumbs across her cheekbones in a loving manner. He looks her directly in the eyes and Y/N doesnât think sheâs breathed in the last 30 seconds.
Sheâs been craving being this close to Fred for as long as she can remember. Their lingering touches were never this intimate and right now, she feels like she can look into Fredâs eyes and see into his core, his soul. And he can do the same to her.
âCan I kiss you?â He asks softly, and Y/N gasps before nodding, wanting nothing more than to feel his lips against hers.Â
As he leans in his eyes flutter close, as do herâs. Y/N hasnât kissed a lot of people in her life, but nothing could ever compare to the way she feels right now. The love and adoration Fred is pouring into this kiss almost brings tears to her eyes and she can only hope he can feel the love and adoration she has for him back.
Their lips move in perfect synchrony, neither of them pushing each other too far, but when Y/N drags her fingers through Fredâs hair and he lets out a groan, she canât help but pull away and giggle.Â
âIâve missed hearing you laugh.â Fredâs arms are now wrapped around her middle and heâs leaning down to press his forehead against hers. Now he has her in his arms, heâs never letting her go.Â
âIâve missed having you make me laugh, Freddie.â She says sincerely and itâs Fredâs turn to blush. He knows they need to eventually leave their little bubble of happiness they finally have but he doesnât want too. But he knows they need to talk about what happened, about them, what they are and Fred so desperately hopes this means Y/N is his.Â
She senses Fredâs thinking and she looks up at him, doe-eyed and innocent and Fredâs heart melts.Â
âStop overthinking.â She mutters, running her hand through his long hair again and Fred almost looks like a cat purring as he feels her fingernails rake across his scalp and he leans into her touch. âCanât help it. Donât want to lose you again.âÂ
Her heart pounds, this is all sheâs ever wanted to hear and now she wants to hear it every single day. So she tells him exactly that.
âIâm yours, Freddie. As long as youâre mine? If you donât know what you want itâs okay, I promise we can take it slow-â Fred cuts her off, laughing as he kisses her again and he feels how warm Y/Nâs cheeks are, as she blushes over Fred silencing her with a kiss. When he pulls back, her face is flush, her hair is falling out of her bun. It reminds Fred of that day in the library, except this time, the happiness in her face is unmistakably there, and finally heâs the cause of it.Â
âOf course, Iâm yours, darling. Iâm never letting you go.âÂ
-Â
Late the next morning, when Y/N is trying her best to sneak out of the Gryffindor sixth year boys dormitory with a dark purple hickey adorning her neck, she spots three 4th years whose names she doesnât even know, giving Ron Weasley five galleons.Â
Ron sees her, and smirks. âMy bet was at the ball. Thanks, Y/N, you and Freddie boy have made me a very rich man.â

My Anime 9/10âČs
With probably no spoilers cuz I donât wanna talk too long about them zzz.
1. Fullmetal Alchemist
YALL ALREADY KNOW THIS A 9/10. The only real reason this show is not a 10/10 is because itâs just a story that Iâd never rewatch. Thereâs like 70 episodes, which is way too long for my short attention span, especially since Iâve seen it already. But yeah, by all accounts, this story is a masterpiece and is one of the only âshounenâ animeâs that I genuinely enjoyed. No random sexualization. No dumb filler. All the characters have an actual purpose and role in the plot and everyone has their own morals and ideals that interact to make the story interesting. I couldnât bring myself to really hate anyone, even the villains, because everyone was pretty well written. Also super satisfying ending that ties up everything properly without leaving me confused or upset. If you only watch a few anime in your life, Fullmetal Alchemist is pretty much a MUST WATCH to see a beautiful example of a modern classic anime as an artform. Also I should say that I really donât like Hunter x Hunter (AN EXTREMELY CONTROVERSIAL OPINION BTW) but I love Fullmetal Alchemist so take from that what you will.
2. Parasyte: The Maxim
Same kinda shit where you already know this a 9/10 for me. Itâs just a very satisfying anime that doesnât have random sexualization or random filler or anything like that. Ending is also very good and ties up the story in a way that doesnât leave more questions but also allows the characters to have a âlifeâ outside of the scope of the story. I think Parasyte, because of its more horror and psychological-esque vibes, counts as a seinen and not a shounen, so for more mature audiences. I also really liked how the story was successfully adapted to modern times since the manga is from the 80âČs. I have actually rewatched this anime, but what stops me from giving it a 10/10 is a few things that I found kinda âstereotypicalâ that I donât wanna discuss further too much cuz itâs spoilers. I still obviously really like this anime and highly recommend it.
3. Zankyou no Terror
TBH, this anime is pretty hard for me to properly describe in a lot of words as to why I like it. The art was really pretty as well as the music, which was just straight up amazing. The cinematography of this anime is excellent as well, and a lot of scenes have that sense of being acted out by real people, as opposed to feeling completely drawn/animated. I was a teenager when this anime came out and I think a lot of the themes presented in the show really related to me. The show does kinda have some leftover questions when it ends that prevents me from rating it a 10/10, but I have such a soft spot for this anime. Itâs from the same creator as Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop, and although those two animes are also very good, they did not impact me as much as this anime did. Recommended for people looking for idk something that gives off Inception vibes?? In the sense that itâs much more about its themes and its message more so than the believability of the events that occur.
4. Magic Kaito 1412
THIS IS JUST A PERSONAL PREFERENCE BTW LOLOL I DONâT KNOW ANYBODY WHOâD PUT THIS AS A 9/10 ANIME. I JUST REALLY LIKED IT OKAY. Itâs made by the same person who does Detective Conan but I like this a lot more because itâs a much shorter series and slightly more mature (more for teens than just straight up kids). I really liked the main guy, I think heâs funny and charismatic. Heâs a pervert at times but Imma forgive that cuz of the 90âČs. Idk itâs just a really fun anime that I donât have to take seriously and can just watch and enjoy.
5. Mob Psycho 100 (season 1 AND 2)
Imma put season two as slightly better than season one. So season one would be like a 9 and season two is like a 9.25 for me. Super super funny anime and I like it SO much more than One Punch Man. I liked that there was a good balance of serious moments, but you can definitely still count this anime as a comedy. Iâm typically not the type to watch âcomedyâ but this anime genuinely had me laughing out loud, while also crying and freaking out right alongside the main character. The main guy is super great because heâs just this shy and sweet middle schooler, and itâs really interesting watching him balance trynna have a normal life while also using his powers for good and such. Apparently the anime was decently faithful to the manga and thereâs apparently enough material for a third season so Iâd be pretty stoked for a season 3, but season 2 ended on a pretty good spot and was satisfying. TBH, if I had the time, Iâd probably rewatch both seasons and bump it up to a 10/10.
6. Vinland Saga
This anime is just the first season of what I hopes to be a whole series that will be stay beautifully and faithfully adapted from the manga. As someone who read very far into the manga (but quit like years ago simply because I hate slow updates lol), I actually didnât enjoy watching the anime at first. I was impatient and kept waiting for when like the âmajorâ events would happen. So I watched like three episodes and quit. But when I had some free time, I decided to get stuck in and commit to watching the whole series and I was so pleasantly surprised with just how good it was. I was impatient but I needed to realize that there is no âfillerâ or like âwasted timeâ in the entire anime. I hadnât read the manga in years, so so many things were only vaguely familiar but I think this helped me stay surprised and excited throughout the anime. Iâm looking forward to the rest of the manga being adapted because itâs just a good Viking saga lolol. Major themes of stuff like growing up, violence vs. peace, what it means to be a good person, etc. Lots of blood and LOTS of violence like a LOT they are VIKINGS CMON but tbh not really any gore which I liked cuz gore makes me ughhhh. A very good watch and only a taste of an excellent story.
7. Demon Slayer
Itâs just Demon Slayer duhhh. Of course this a 9/10 for me. I donât wanna write much just cuz the show is so popular. Just read a REAL review of this anime somewhere else lmaoooo. Also yes I did watch the movie in theaters and yes I liked it a lot as well mmkay. Iâm mad hype for season two. My S/O doesnât like Demon Slayer as much as me, but also has Hunter x Hunter as their all time favorite anime. Do with that information what you will lolol.
8. Attack on Titan Season 3 Part 2
Same shit as Demon Slayer. Just go read someone elseâs review about why itâs so good lol. Also, unlike Mob Psycho 100, I canât include all of the seasons in this, because I have very various opinions about how good/bad the other seasons were. But this season 3 part 2, was just plain and simply amazing. While I might not like each season equally, as a whole Attack on Titan is also a modern masterpiece of storytelling. Read the manga if you can.
9. Great Pretender
I love this anime so much. Such a good and fun wild ride. The whole show is ridiculous but in a fun way. Iâm a HUGE fan of heist films, so of course I absolutely enjoyed a heist anime. Iâve watched this show in sub AND dub, due to the fact that everyone is âtechnicallyâ speaking English the entire time. If youâre a purist, just watch in sub OR dub cuz I did get confused here and there, especially when I would go back to compare language discrepancies. Because basically I did this super high maintenance thing where I switched back to Japanese whenever the main character had flashbacks, since heâs ya know, Japanese. The dub also has this confusing thing where the first five minutes or so are still in Japanese, but switches to English when a little cue card on the screen goes âFor the Viewers sake, everything from now on will be translated to Japanese.â Itâs cuz in the sub, the inverse obviously happens where the characters are initially speaking broken English to each other, but for convenience sake, everything from that point on will be in Japanese. Itâs confusing at first but I liked it cuz it just proved the whole international vibe of the show. Itâs funny either sub or dub when they joke about how bad the main guy speaks English, cuz in the dub heâs speaking perfect English, while the sub has him not speaking English at all. But anyway, great anime that WOULD have gotten a 10/10 if not for the last episode. Like without spoiling ... WTF WAS THAT LMAOOOO. The anime as a whole is super wacky and zany but at least I could try to think itâs real life, but that last episode was just so unbelievable and bizarre and pulled my suspension of disbelief into the STRATOSPHERE that I just had to convince myself that this show takes place in some improbable alternate reality where something like what happened in the last episode is at least 5 percent possible CUZ HOW DID ANY OF THAT WORK LMAOOO??? Once again, great show, one of my absolute favorites, BUT THAT ENDING THOUGH WTF.
10. BNA
Good super underrated anime that I donât hear people talk about at all. If Beastars is anime Zootopia, then BNA is Disney Beastars lmaooo does that make sense? Itâs a lot more fun and zany than Beastars and I liked it way more. Made by the same people who made Kill la Kill. I really like that more classic, animated âcheapâ art style that the anime has, and I also really liked the plot of the story. Not a 10/10 cuz the show does leave a few unanswered questions at the end of it, but this show was such a fun and interesting ride. When I finished the last episode, I was left with a big smile on my face because I just genuinely enjoyed this anime. Recommended if you wanna watch something a little unique and more on the silly and wack side. Talks about some serious stuff, but luckily the show never takes itself TOO seriously, and remains overall lighthearted for a fun action/sci-fi show.

Six of Crows Review
Alright, first book review on this blog...here we go: *spoiler warning, duh*
Book: Six of Crows Author: Leigh Bardugo
My Rating: 5/5
First off, this is the first YA fantasy I've ever read so I have no idea what I was expecting...and I fuckin loved it.
Second, I binge read this book in three days and it usually takes me a month to read anything ever so that's definitely saying something. I came for Kaz Brekker after watching Shadow & Bone on Netflix and stayed for the amazing plot, diverse and intricate characters, the incredible action and twists, and of course Kaz Brekker. The one thing that I loved was how fast paced this book went, and I genuinely could not stray far from the book because of how addicting it was. There was something in every chapter and you never got bored. The last part had taken the most time for me to complete because of how much action Leigh crammed in the last 60 pages, which made it a bit hard to follow along but it was still epic.
The Characters:
Kaz, Inej, Jesper, Wylan, Nina, Matthias
"âWhatâs the easiest way to steal a manâs wallet?â âKnife to the throat?â asked Inej. âGun to the back?â said Jesper. âPoison in his cup?â suggested Nina. âYouâre all horrible,â said Matthias."
The most diverse set of characters I have ever met. There were 6 characters, and the POV's were constantly changing and at some point, while I read someone else's chapter I was worried about the other characters and anticipating the next chapters. This was honestly an amazing decision to tell this story and I never got sick of the characters (except maybe Matthias, sorry).
Not only does Leigh do an excellent job portraying trauma in her characters (especially Kaz), she also keeps the character's as diverse as possible, from Nina being a plus sized character with badass confidence to Wylan overcoming his dyslexia and even Inej being a brown character. Every character had their own stories and the flashbacks/backstories were always a pleasure to read through.
Kaz Brekker is a stone cold, morally grey, manipulative, and terrible criminal which of course...makes him an even better protagonist. He definitely rocks the Hot Boy Who Is Mean To Everyone Except That One Chick Because Of His Tragic Backstory trope.
"There was no part of him that was not broken, that had not healed wrong, and there was no part of him that was not stronger for having been broken."
He is an anti-hero with his own plans and goals, while also caring so much about his crew that he would do anything for them. I'm very excited to see his character develop with Inej in Crooked Kingdom as well as his relationship with her because I am too obsessed with the two of them. I also enjoyed how Leigh allowed Kaz to fuck up and make mistakes, showing that he wasn't just some perfect character that knew everything about everything, and reading his inner dialogue when he realized his fuck-ups felt refreshing. His backstory was very well written and very tragic (we get it he's emo). It felt so personal knowing why he was they way he was when he sealed himself off from the world. He's also drippy as fuck.
Inej Ghafa just radiates bad bitch energy and when Kaz called her "dangerous" I screamed "DAMN RIGHT". Her mental drive was beautifully written during her chapters, especially while she climbed the incinerator.
"The heat of the incinerator wrapped around Inej like a living thing, a desert dragon in his den, hiding from the ice, waiting for her. She knew her body's limits and knew she had no more to give. She'd made a bad wager. It was as simple as that. The autumn leaf might cling to its branch, but it was already dead. The only question was when it would fall...
Should she jump now or simply wait for her body to give?
Inej felt wetness on her cheeks. Was she crying? Now? After everything she'd done and had done to her?"
Most importantly, she was a raw character who pushed herself throughout the book not just for herself but for the rest of the crew. She was selfless but she was also incredibly strong, driven by her future. Inej is the most inspiring character in the book and I have fallen in love with her more times than I could count. (lowkey carried the team imma be honest)
JESPER FAHEY Y'ALL. My queer sharpshooter king. I think I related to him the most and I loved every chapter with him. Though, I felt like Jesper was treated more as a side character than a main one, especially since he was stuck with Wylan for the entirety of the heist but BOY WHEN I FOUND OUT HE WAS A FABRIKATOR...I might have also screamed. He was definitely the comedic relief and he always kept me laughing at his little comments. Excited to see him and Wylan get together and also hoping for more of Jesper's character.
"Well, weâve managed to get ourselves locked into the most secure prison in the world. Weâre either geniuses or the dumbest sons of bitches to ever breathe air."
âIf any of you survive, make sure I have an open casket. The world deserves a few more moments with this face.â
Nina Zenik...bro. She is so powerful. The moment she took parem was *chefs kiss* and it was the most badass scene I had ever experienced. When I began reading her chapters I didn't really enjoy them but when the heist actually began her inner dialogue won me over completely. When she was with Jarl Brum I could not stop laughing at the things she was saying in her head, and even when things were intense she always had something to say which made her character come to life. Her personality is hilarious, and sarcastic and she's also so HOT like my gay ass was swooning. She is who I aspire to be, that is all.
Matthias Helvar. Personally, I didn't really like his character so much because of how stubborn and he was (and how many times I wanted to punch his stupid ass), however he was still a pretty cool character with some good moments in there. He demonstrated religious corruption well, and he definitely faced a lot of inner conflict due to the pressure of what he was taught when he was younger. His POVs were a little boring but I loved it when he called Kaz a demjin.
Wylan Van Eck was a super fun character to have around. I definitely enjoyed watching his character grow as he spent more time with the Dregs. I didn't love him as much as the big three (Kaz, Jesper, Inej) and don't have much to say on him except that I admired his strength throughout the last part, especially when confronting his father after hearing all the horrible things he said about his own son. Jesper defending him made me melt big time.
"He's smarter than most of us put together, and he deserves a better father than you."
I literally could not have asked for such a creative group of characters and to see them work together makes me feel like I'm part of a big, criminal family.
The Ships
The ships were a fun addition to the story and the best part was that they never overstepped the actual objective of the plot but rather worked with it to enhance the connections between each character.
Kaz and Inej: Let me just cry for a second.
"She'd laughed, and if he could have bottled the sound and gotten drunk on it every night, he would have. It terrified him."
"I will have you without armor, Kaz Brekker. Or I will not have you at all."
"I'm going to get my money, Kaz vowed. And I'm going to get my girl."
This one hurt me. I am in love with these two and their relationship with each other makes it so much better. They are not meant to be together yet they are connected in so many ways. I did not think I would fall in love so easy, but here I am.
Matthias and Nina: I was not convinced by these two, especially with how weird their relationship was. They constantly seemed like they hated each other (valid) and some of their romantic scenes felt forced. In the end, I enjoyed seeing Nina grow on Matthias to wake his stubborn ass up. I swear that man refused to have feelings. Anyway, I still have mixed feelings on these two.
Wylan and Jesper: They are so cute. Like insanely cute. Like even I was blushing during their cute scenes. Their relationship isn't as developed yet so I am excited to see them in Crooked Kingdom.
Final Thoughts:
Representation? Check
Map? Check
Two maps?!? Fuck yeah
Amazing plot and worldbuilding? Check
Hilarious banter? Mhm
Great writing? Check
Well- written characters? 100%
Overall, this story will forever be my comfort book and I was impressed by the YA fantasy side of literature. It's hard to believe yet comforting that these characters are my age, makes me feel powerful. I loved every bit of this book and now I kinda wanna grab some friends and pull a heist.

Welcome back to Jessie Yamchaas drink and episode reviews- Today we will be reviewing- Episode 71 of Dragon ball Super and Green Tea topped with whipped cream cheese concoction I saw in a youtube video late last night that disturbed me, keep reading if either of these intrigue you-
First things first, I had to make my drink to accompany my episode rewatch, here he is in all his glory:
Looks wise? Not the prettiest drink, slightly âshreks swamp after the honeymoonâ vibes, but looks donât matter- itâs about the taste. Taste wise? This shit disgusting, what in the actual fuck- Janice, girl, you said this was nice in your video what is this- The whipped cream cheese sits on top of the bitter tea so your first sip is straight up just this weird cream cheese and then you get bitter tea and its fuckin bad- 0.5/5, wonât make again.
Okay now we have that horror out of the way lets move on to something less terrible, surely- Yamcha playing baseball :)
Okay, first things first- animation. WHERE THE HELL IS YAMCHAâS CAKE? WHERE HE FUCKIN THIGHS AND HIS BUTT AT? BASEBALL TIGHT PANTS ARE WONDERFUL BUT WHERE ALL THE MEAT GONE?? YAMCHA ALWAYS HAD MEAT BRO, HE ALWAYS HAD JUICY THIGHS BRO đ- Okay but with that out of my system there no other glaring issues with the animation in this episode, sure some of the distant shots are funky but Iâm not bothered too greatly by that, itâs actually fairly well done- I especially appreciate the scenes where they focus on Yamchaâs technique and of course the cool wolf shot sings to me so all and all no complaints beyond Yamcha being too small.
As for plot, Champa and Beerus are having a âfriendlyâ match between universes 6 and 7, hijinks ensue- This is filler, thereâs not much plot to speak on.
Utterly in love with the line from Yamcha that he left Tien and Chiaotzu behind, super funny and a nice little throwback to the Res F movie- Also, theyâre married <3 But I do just have to say it does utterly flummox me that Tien is not included in this episode, thereâs genuinely no reason for him not to be here and I canât help but to imagine how fun the episode could have been if Tien was on the universe 6 team to even out the numbers- They never gave us the Yamcha/Tien rematch at the tournament so it could have been a fun way of giving us some kind of rematch and banter all these years later, but sadly they just didnât take the opportunity- Also no Tien Baseball Tight pants đđ Disappointing.
Whis and Vados look nice :) Vegeta being obsessed with topping Goku once more, nothing new here. Gohanâs a sweety, also nothing new here.
Now some positives: Yamcha being so encouraging and a good team leader is very sweet to see, love that actually. I also love that they made these amazing warriors not very good at something that isnât fighting, like itâs comical but itâs also nice in a way? Like yes, Goku is unbelievable in so many ways but he struggles to learn baseball- Its nice to be reminded these characters have flaws and struggle in different aspects of life, just like regular people do too- Really like that.
Love them incorporating Yamchaâs use of spirit control into his baseball skills, itâs just fun and cool, no complaints from me at all.
Piccolo being good at baseball is cute and I like it.
Now on to everything else-
This episode truly hurts my feelings, itâs so unnecessarily mean for no reason and I know people might say âbut doesnât he technically win? and wasnât he better than everyone?â Those are the only scraps he gets- Literally Yamcha speaks in a total of 10 super episodes and this is the only episode that we could even vaguely call a Yamcha episode and itâs just a joke on him 90% of the time-
18 questioning if Yamcha should be captain and being nasty about his skills truly fucks me off- Like heâs been the best baseball player on earth for 20+ years, the show acts like Yamcha is completely useless and it just grates on me- Yamcha trained with King Kai, he can hold his own against the ginyu force- Heâs not weak. Heâs just plainly not!! Sure heâs not Goku level, or even Piccolo, but thatâs okay, because he is human!! Heâs still an amazing martial artist and baseball player and heâs also a good friend with a kind heart. The show playing into the useless pathetic Yamcha memes is cheap. Itâs just cheap.
As for the he weird, kinda implied Bulma/Yamcha stuff in this ep HATE HATE MALICE BITE KILL- Actually fuck off. The blush pisses me off so bad-Â Like Yamcha has never acted hung up on Bulma, he was a bit annoyed when Trunks was a tiny baby, which was fair! But other than that he just treated her like a regular friend, no unrequited love. Also Iâm pretty sure this is the nicest Bulma has ever been to Yamcha... Ever. In like the entire series as a whole. So... Thatâs telling.
Also supers insistence that Yamchaâs this cocky, smarmy guy will never cease pissing me off! The Yamcha we leave in Dragon Ball Z has been remarkably chill and humble for years, so why now is he suddenly a dickhead again? This is more prevalent in other episodes but does feature here too. Bad writing- Bad characterization. Bad.
And it ends on the dead fucking Yamcha meme pose- Because of course it does. Because itâs cheap and itâs nasty and thatâs all there is to it. They took a character that used to be a main character. A loved character. And they played into the dudebro, abridged series, meme-ifcation to get cheap laughs rather than give this character the dues he deserves. They literally couldnât even give him one (1) episode. This is actually worse than the fucked cream cheese green tea drink- By a large margin.
NOTABLE, QUOTABLE:
âCâmon letâs see some pep in your step!â
âWow- Itâs been a long time since Iâve seen Yamcha this fired up!â đđ Dude seeing Yamcha confident and excited and Goku being so happy makea me đđ
âLet the Yamcha show you what itâs like to dominate on the mound-â Iâll let The Yamcha dominate on my moun- *Comically large hook snatches me by the neck, pulling me and my computer chair off stage*
âThe wolf fang pitching fist ball-â Tien, I need you to kiss this man on his dumb mouth, please.
âYeah for a washed up fighter thatâs not bad.â 18 I GOT MAD LOVE FOR YOU BUT IMMA THROW HANDS WITH YOU BITCH IF YOU KEEP THIS UP- âBut Jess sheâs a powerful android and youâre some chick-â Yeah but donât you know the power of love is the strongest force in the world? Also I grew up in the country and have reserved farm strength so đ€
âItâs an honour to have this of batâ Cabba I dont know what the fuck this means but Iâm fuckin happy to see you mate- You a good boy!! âWatch closely master, Iâm going to hit this and prove Iâm worthy of your teaching-â stupid lil bitch ass vegtea donât deserve this sweety đ€
âWhat are you even doing here, Iâm totally out of my league, at this rate Iâd be lucky to walk off the field alive... Câmon Yamcha, keep your head in the game, we are going to win this.â TIEN IF YOU DONT GENTLY AND SWEETLY BRUSH THIS MANS CHOPPY MULLET FROM HIS FACE AND SWEETLY KISS HIS LIPS ON GOD-
Winning shot of the epsiode:
Thanks for tuning in to my review of drink and episode uhhhhhh see you again uhhhhhhh if someone gives me a drink and a episode to watch :)
#meta#?#i dont know what this is#snaps reviews are like a professor- so indepth and well thought out#mine are like a professor who had bad bag if cocaine and is being escorted off campus#CUT IT OUT YAMCHA#dragon ball super#yeah i have nothi else to say

saint. || soobin (2.9)đȘ

yeonjun groggily wakes up, remembering that he had to pick you up. he couldnât see how soobin was waking up this early everyday. he was lucky this was a paid duty. yeonjun takes his morning shower and dresses himself in his uniform accordingly. he was sure to be in front of your house by 6 like soobin requested. yeonjun thought soobin was so accurate it was actually creepy. 15 minutes past 5:45 and here you were, walking outside. yeonjun beeps his car horn loudly. signaling you over.
âwhat are you doing here?â. you ask, you thought it was pretty odd.Â
âsoobin wants me to look after you. get in the carâ.Â
you blinked, âno thank you itâs fine Iâll walkâ.Â
yeonjun honks his horn louder and drives slowly beside you. âjust get in the car. youâre making this more difficult than it has to beâ.Â
you cross your arms. âwhy would soobin tell you out of all people to look after me anywaysâ.
âbecause heâs a fucking sucker. now please get in the car so I donât have to hear his mouth about it later onâ.Â
that was sweet of soobin, you thought. way too sweet.Â
âweâre only going to school right?â. you ask.Â
âyesâ. yeonjun replies. you sigh, making your way around his car and sliding in the passenger seat. yeonjunâs car was just as nice as soobinâs. oh the joys of being filthy rich.Â
yeonjun hears you sigh as he pull off. âwhatâs wrong with you?â. he questions. ânothingâ. you answer, but truth be told between exams and soobin you didnât know which one made you more stressed. it wasnât much long before you see yeonjun pulling into a parking lot of a small diner. you furrow your eyebrow. âwhat are you doing? you said we were going to schoolâ.Â
yeonjun unbuckles his seat belt, âyes, after we eatâ.Â
âyeonjun i want to go to school, take me to school. Iâm not even hungryâ.Â
yeonjun grips the staring wheel and closes his eyes for a brief second.Â
âthe school doors arenât even open yet. just eat somethingâ.Â
you cross your arms. âwhy? what do you think this is?â.Â
âfor fucks sake just get out the car so you can eat why are you making this shit a k-drama?â.Â
âi donât need you to feed meâ.Â
âIâm glad. Iâm happy for you but Iâm not feeding you. soobin is. so please, get the fuck out of the carâ. yeonjun made these his last words before he ejects himself out of the driver seat and slams the door shut behind him. you take a breathe and try to calm yourself, since soobin was the one behind this.Â
you finally get out of the car and walk into the diner, coldly sliding in the booth across from yeonjun who was already reading the menu. you plucked up the menu with hesitance. it was a disappoint when the waitress came, you didnât have the joy of making fun of soobin whoâd be ordering just about everything. you were disgusted at how flirtacious the waitress was with yeonjun. and of course he was flirting back. once the attention was on you though the mood shifted. she gained an attitude probably thinking you were with yeonjun.Â
you ordered your food with little to no regard for her feelings and crossed your arms once you were finished. she snatched the menuâs up and promised her return, giving yeonjun a small wink. you could just puke.Â
âis there a problem?â. yeonjun addresses.Â
âand if there was?â. you reply.
yeonjun shrugs, chewing on this inside of his cheek. âjust thought if theres a problem you can address that shitâ.
ânobody has a problem with you yeonjunâ.
âi mean if they did i wouldnât give a damn anyways. especially if they order shit like--a vegetarian omelette for breakfastâ.
you sized him up with your eyes. you didnât know why in such a short time frame yeonjun got on your last nerve like no other.Â
âsays the one ordering steak and eggs? what are you? on death row?â.Â
yeonjun chuckles a little. but not the kind of chuckle where you could join in with him, his laughs were cold and you can tell they werenât genuine at all.Â
âgod--soobin must have his head in the clouds for youâ.
âwhatâs that supposed to mean?â.
âarenât you a straight A student? Iâm sure you can figure that out for yourselfâ.Â
you roll your eyes. you couldnât think of a reply and you honestly didnât want to. you were glad when he picked up his phone until the food arrived. you just wanted to go to school and study. you ate your food silently. it was annoying though, you felt yeonjunâs eyes on you from the time you started eating until the time you were done.Â
âsomething wrong with your eyes?â. you replied.Â
âno but theres something wrong with your face, you pigâ. he responds. you sit up a bit hovering your hand over your mouth. why couldnât he just tell you that you had a smudge at the corner of your lips? why did he have to be such an ass? you wiped it quickly with a napkin before crossing your arms again.
âIâm ready to leaveâ. you sigh.Â
yeonjun chews, âthatâs cute. does soobin leave on your command?â.Â
âwhy do you care?â.
âi donât. thatâs the reason why iâm not getting up and leaving right nowâ. he says forking another piece of steak into his mouth. and this how it was for most of the day. you were glad to finally leave and get to school where you could pick back up on your studying and reviewing for exams. you had to admit you would miss soobin standing outside of your classroom door like a lamp post.Â
too bad you wouldnât be getting that today. instead youâd be getting the cavalier king. arrogant ass yeonjun. you walked out of your history and math class absolutely disgusted with the fact that yeonjun was there. he rolls his eyes.Â
âis your day going great? alright byeâ. heâd say before leaving and attending his next class. you wondered if it was too early to claim you hated him.
-----
âwas this his first incident?â. the officer badgered to kevin. the room was just as dark and cold as it was yesterday. but even colder to kevin now that he knew he might be in jail for the rest of his life.Â
âno it isnâtâ. Â
âtell me about the first incidentâ.Â
âsoobin hated mia. she always wanted him and soobin rejected her each time. he finally shut mia up by agreeing to go on a date with her. and--â. kevin paused for a moment trying to figure out the best way he could cover it. the boys had all agreed on blaming everything on soobin but they never decided on a story.
âhe took her to a hotel and raped herâ. he finishes.Â
âif mia wanted soobin so badly as you say she did, how would soobin rape her?â.Â
kevin quickly thought, âsoobin wanted to record her. but mia didnât want that. soobin got really mad at that. so instead of turning the camera off like mia requested he just did it right there and thenâ.
âand how do you know this is what happened?â.
âsoobin told us right afterâ. the officer nods.Â
âand do you have any evidence of this to show for?â.
damn it, kevin thought. he shakes his head,Â
âno sirâ.Â
the officer nodded once more before walking out of the room. kevinâs cell officer did the honor of escorting him out of the room and into the cells where he had been for the past couple of days. he walks past seongjun and michael who were in their cells doing a whole lot of nothing. the bars slam shut on kevin and right next to him here the interrogation officer was again, beckoning michael out of his cell.Â
--------
âcan you hurry the fuck up please? Iâm not going to be waiting for you all dayâ. yeonjun says behind you while you were at your locker now collecting your things.Â
âwhatâs your problem? you can wait for 5 minutes it isnât that hardâ.Â
yeonjun scoffs, to which you swiftly reply, âor you can just leave without me I really donât careâ.
âdonât worry if it wasnât for soobin i would. Iâm going to be in the carâ. yeonjun says before cutting through the crowd and exiting out of the school doors. you took a deep breath. to go from smiles and kisses on your cheek to this? you didnât know how much longer you could withstand it.Â
âhey donât worry about him. heâs like that to everyoneâ. you hear an unfamiliar voice say beside you. you close your locker door to see some tall kid youâve never noticed before. maybe you were always too late or too early going to your locker so you never even knew his locker was right beside yours. he sported a red bowl cut that was parted perfectly to the left. he was also dragging books into his backpack like you were.Â
âheâs so annoyingâ. you say. to which the boy laughs a little,Â
âyeah heâs an ass. but donât feel bad about it. when you have almost a million dollars to your name what can you be other than a dickhead?â.Â
you laugh a little. he smiles and drops his last book into his backpack before zipping it closed and shutting his locker door. he swings the backpack strap over his shoulder. âIâm Kang Taehyun by the wayâ. you give him a shocked expression before giving him your name in exchange.
âwhat? what is it?â.Â
âso youâre the kid who aces all of his tests and scores the highest internationally?â.
getting a bit flustered taehyun replies softly, âum-yeah thatâs me. why?â.Â
âyour name is always at the top scorer lists and things like that. iâve never saw you in person though. smart cookieâ. he nods and smiles a little. you could tell he was shy on the inside but played it off with confidence.
âsomething like thatâ. he responds before eyeing something behind you.Â
âI think thatâs your rideâ.Â
you turn behind you and see yeonjunâs car parked right outside of the school doors, he was honking his horn obnoxiously while staring at you. you rolled your eyes. âIt was nice talking to you taehyunâ.Â
âsame hereâ.Â
you stroll your way out quickly, âwhy are you honking your horn like some lunatic?â.
âbecause I been told you Iâm not going to be waiting for you all day. and then there you are, in there making friends and shitâ.Â
âI can make friends if I want to. Iâm an adult after allâ.Â
yeonjun scowls, âbarely. get in the carâ.
âI donât know if I want toâ.Â
âsuit yourself. youâre not going to see soobin then. ainât my problemâ.
âyouâre going to see soobin?â.Â
âyesâ.Â
âfineâ.
------------
âwas this his first incident?â. the officer re-asks michael.Â
ânoâ.Â
âtell me about his first incident thenâ.Â
âit was at his homeâ. michael began to lie.Â
âand what happened there?â. the officer badgers again becoming a little skeptical.Â
âsoobin has this temper where if things arenât done how he likes it he will get angry. thatâs what happened with mia. he got angry with her and forced itâ,Â
âdo you know what it is that got him so angry with her?â.Â
âno. soobin never told usâ.Â
âus?â.
âyes us. meaning his friendsâ.Â
âI take it that soobin tells you all most of the things he does?â.Â
âusually. yeahâ.
âand do you have any evidence to show for this incident?â.Â
michael shakes his head.Â
âno sirâ. the officer nods, walking out of the room again until michaelâs officer escorted him back to his cell.
----
âi donât have to eat if I donât want toâ.
âjust eat the damn ice cream before it meltsâ.Â
âIf it melts Iâll just throw it out the windowâ. you assure while yeonjun was driving. he huffs his breath again having enough of you. it was a bummer that he still had to be the one to take you home tonight. the both of you strolled into the police station and gave soobinâs name.Â
âiâll be back iâm going to the bathroomâ.
âi donât careâ, yeonjun shrugs before a guard lead him to soobinâs holding cell. it was official. you hated yeonjun.Â
âayo el chapoâ. yeonjun calls out. soobin snaps his head to the older boy standing outside his cell. heâd been so lonely in there he was actually glad to see him. he approaches the bars. âwhats up? wheres--â. âsheâs in the bathroomâ.
âhow was she today?â.Â
âannoying as fuck. she argued about me picking her up and had an attitude for damn near the whole damn day because i donât know, iâm not you. you need to stop spoiling that girlâ. soobin laughs in exchange. yeonjun kept a straight face.Â
âIâm serious soobin. Iâm not going to keep doing this with that bitchy ass attitude of hers. I donât know how you deal with itâ.
âcalm down. she doesnât usually give me attitude. maybe a little sass if anything, but I like it. Iâll talk to her thoughâ.Â
âyeah you need to. any updates today?â.
âthey took the boys in for questioning. Iâm just waiting for the verdict at this pointâ. yeonjun nods.Â
âi doubt theyâd have a story put together. donât worry youâll be out of here soonâ.
âI sure hope so. itâs boring as hell in hereâ.Â
âyouâre an inmate now. do what inmates doâ.Â
âwhat the fuck does that mean?â.Â
âmasturbate at the thought of your prissy ass girlfriendâ.Â
soobin laughs again, his eyes lighting up at the sight of you approaching him.Â
âhey princessâ. soobin greets and bends down to kiss your lips from the open space between the bars. you kissed back but soobin noticed you were more annoyed than usual.Â
âwhatâs the matter mama?â.Â
yeonjun scoffs beside you both, âgive me a fucking breakâ.Â
âyeonjun give us a minuteâ. soobin requests and already walking towards the door yeonjun shortly replies, âgladlyâ.Â
âwhatâs wrong? yeonjun told me you were giving him a hard time todayâ.Â
you crossed your arms and felt a pout tug at your lips. you didnât want to cry but you missed soobin and youâd been so stressed lately and yeonjunâs insults and behavior wasnât making it any better.Â
âheâs so disrespectful soobin. I wouldnât be giving him a hard time if he knew how to treat people. i donât expect him to be like you but he could at least have a bit more respect for meâ.Â
it hurt soobinâs heart to see you like that. he reaches his hand out and swipes the tear that was rolling down your cheek.Â
âdonât cry princess, okay? Iâm not going to be here much longer. i know yeonjun is a jerk but I needed someone to take care of you. Iâll tell him to tone it down alright?â.Â
you nodded your head. âi miss you, soobinâ.
âi miss you too. those boys donât have any common sense. Iâll be out soon. but you have to be good for me okay?â. you sighed. âfineâ.Â
soobin kisses you again. âstudy and sleep good. get yeonjun for meâ.Â
you nod, feeling weight lift from your shoulders. maybe seeing soobin was exactly what you needed.Â
before you waited in the car you told yeonjun that soobin wanted to speak with him. âare yaâll nasty asses done now?â. yeonjun approaches. âyo, dipshit. stop calling her names what the fuck is wrong with you?â. yeonjun widened his eyes.Â
âdid she really just come in here and--â.
âyes. and yeonjun iâm not going to be paying you if youâre going to be treating her like shit the whole timeâ.Â
âdid I not just tell you that she had an attitude with me the whole time?â.
âyeonjun iâm seriousâ.Â
yeonjun shakes his head,Â
âit be your own friends, manâ.
âcome on, I know how you be acting. just tone it down thatâs all iâm askingâ.
âfine soobin. fineâ. yeonjun agrees. âIâll come by tomorrowâ.
soobin nods. âthank youâ.Â
yeonjun turns to walk out of the door, once he was at the doorway he finally decided to yell, âstop thanking me you piece of shitâ. and soobin laughs behind him.
he slid back into the car were you were, pushing the key into ignition.Â
âsnitchâ. he mutters as if you couldnât hear it.

The Second Book I Read In the Dark:Â Another YA superhero novel for me to squeal over forever...YES, Please! Gimme Gimme!
Dreadnought by April Daniels
So Day 1 in the dark continues onward and I have already finished 1 of my 3 library books with still so much day left so what else to do but soldier forward and continue without pause. Well there was a short pause for delicious chicken soup cooked on a blessedly gas powered range (never gonna live in a house with an electric range; I swear this thing has saved our butts in so many power outages), but I digress; I was ready! This time I was taking a break from the whimsical and witchy and diving head first into all things super with an extra heroic twist.Â
I had heard so many good things about this book for so long but again it had fallen to the wayside of other distractions (a rainbow montage of movie and TV show gays runs back and forth through my head like the migrating fandom flamingoes). What finally made me make the decision to buckle down and do the thing was a video review done by one of my favorite YouTubers, Dominic Noble (Video Linked below). I love his series Lost in Adaptation, because as an avid reader I too find myself appalled by what Hollywood often does to my favorite books. Hearing him talk about Dreadnought was just the push my flighty brain needed to say, âFine! Alright! We havenât utterly obsessed over a teenage superhero book in like 6 months since we near bludgeoned our girlfriend with Not Your Sidekick! Fine! Letâs do it!â So...yeah if this intro is anything to go by this should be a fun one! Letâs dive right in shall we!
Unicorn Rating:
Blurb: She just wanted to paint her toenails in peace but then a superhero had to go and die and give Danny the one thing she never thought sheâd have...her proper body. Now if only everyone else felt that way too. Life just got awesome and really really complicated all at once! Oh yeah and she can fly now. Bonus!
Disclaimer: I will try my best to not spoil anything from the book, but my book loving rambles may give more away than a traditional review. Here we go! Ramble time!
Review:Â
Holy crap! After the last book this was exactly what I needed! This book was just...so good! The plot...the characters...the world...everything about it just pulls you in and doesnât let you go. Now I may have felt that way because I didnât have anything trying to pull me away from this book but I donât think I would have been easily pulled away if there had been distractions. And so many facets of this story were things I didnât expect because I had never seen them portrayed before. Like the fact Danny having to deal with the rampant day to day sexism of being a woman now that her appearance matches who she really is. Iâve never seen that in a book before and I absolutely loved it! I was so dedicated to Dannyâs story from page 1 itâs ridiculous, and look at that, a perfect segue into the phenomenal characters of this book...look what I did there switching it up going out of order on ya...gotta keep ya on your toes.
Our protagonist Danny is such a phenomenal example of a genuine kind caring person who is also deeply scarred and angry. It was so amazing to read a character that was flawed and struggling and doesnât see how much a hero she really is and the small moments when others take that double take and go, âYouâre the real deal, huh?â But those moments just confuse the living hell outta Danny cause sheâs just Danny, she got super powers as a fluke. She is also hilarious and courageous and smart but knows she isnât perfect and has weaknesses. She may be the strongest person on earth physically now but she acknowledges that that isnât everything someone needs. Danny is such a good bean, but she has issues and that isnât glossed over which is so rare. Now the next thing I want to touch on is a very tough subject but is very prevalent in the book so I wouldnât be a very prudent reviewer if I didnât bring it up. Danny is, without question, an abused child. This isnât even really a spoiler, it alludes pretty heavily to it in the blurb, but what Iâm gonna touch on next does dip into that territory so Iâm gonna break it into a new LONG paragraph so just scroll on by if you donât want to read this bit.
So at one point in the book Danny mentions a health screening at school that revealed she had hearing damage in her right ear that has now been healed by the mantle of Dreadnought. At the time of the screening she didnât realize why until her dad had another Mount Vesuvius day and she assumed her usual position of curling in on herself and turning her head to the left so he would yell into only her right ear. Now how loud and how often do you have to yell into someoneâs ear to cause permanent hearing damage? I donât know and honestly I donât want to know. Why am I highlighting an overall tiny moment...because for me this moment jumped out and gut punched me. Brought literal tears to my eyes. Tears of pain. Tears of rage. Tears of hate. Iâm a weepy bitch when I get emotional. Iâve read a lot of books that try and portray abuse and how Daniels wrote Dannyâs abuse from her father took my breath away because it felt so real. There werenât really any good days, there were bad days, there were really bad days, but most days were just anxiously waiting for the next bad day, because Danny knew there would always be a next bad day. Something that did surprise me was my feelings about Dannyâs mother. I knew going in I would hate her father, before even meeting him I hated him, but her mother, that was a hate that lay dormant until it exploded onto the scene and froze me to my core. Iâm not gonna get into my own demons here but there is one thing I cannot abide by and that is people turning a blind eye while someone abuses another. Dannyâs mother is the textbook definition of someone who âgoes along to get alongâ, she will do just about anything to keep the peace, but at what cost? Instead of protecting her child from someone who literally screamed so long and so loud at her child that it damaged her hearing she just sat back and let them. Thatâs not the worst though, no, after Dannyâs transition her mom seems to be understanding of the fact she is happy being a girl and is buying her things she needs like bras and undeniably feminine shoes, only to reveal it was all to keep Danny docile so she wouldnât cause more fights with her dad. That to me is unforgivable. Not worse than the abuse of the father, but still undeniably selfish. She never cared about Danny or listened to her and what she was really saying. She just didnât want there to be anymore fighting. Well Iâm sorry, but sometimes, as a mother, you should fight to protect your goddamn child when someone is hurting them. The last thing Iâll say before going back to the more spoiler free and fun part of the review is that the fact Danny can never make herself say she is being abused hits so close to home for me. As a reader looking in from outside, there was a scene with a member of the Legion that I felt like, as an abuse survivor myself, I was standing there begging Danny to accept her invitation. To get out of that house. To get away from her father. To see what he was doing for what it was. But I knew she wouldnât, she wasnât ready, and it broke my heart to watch her fly away.
Anyway moving on from all that heavy stuff lets talk about other things like some freaking superheroes and one particular vigilante. We have the Legion members: Doc Impossible, Valkyrja, Magma, Graywytch, Chlorophyll, and Carapice. Now How do I want to talk about these characters...in what order...hmmm...how about from best to worst. Okay? Okay. Great!Â
I freaking love Doc Impossible! She is a character that from the moment I met her she gave me âkookie grandmaâ character vibes and I get DOWN with kookie grandma characters. Now I know she isnât a grandma character nor is she particularly crazy in the way she acts; it's just a vibe I get from her that I love. Now one thing I do want to say without spoiling anything is how Doc is one of the few characters that never tries to take away Dannyâs agency in everything that happens around her in all this superhero craziness. Danny can always be her own person and most importantly a kid around Doc, and I feel Danny really needed that. I will stop myself now because I could go on for hours about Doc and how much I LOVE HER!
Next up we get a two for one, Valkyrja and Magma. We donât see much of them but what we do get is pretty good. They are adult superheroes who have their own priorities surrounding what is going on with Danny, but arenât mean or cruel and seem to genuinely care about Danny. Valkyrja is funny and surprisingly down to earth even though she is basically a scandinavian goddess of sorts. Also the hilarity of her being Dannyâs long time celebrity crush never gets old. Oh Danny, you useless little lesbian. Magma is a precious big hot boy that seems like heâd give good hugs. Yeah, that's about all I got to say about him that wonât spoil anything.Â
Now we have another two for one with Chlorophyll and Carapice. These two I'm between dislike and indifferent on. They werenât outright mean to Danny but they treated her more like a means to an end or down right refused to acknowledge she was the new Dreadnought whether they liked it or not, but we didnât really get to see them enough to really learn more about their motivations.Â
Finally to round out the Legion we have Graywytch. Excuse me while I get this out. *Exaggerated throat clear.* First of all, Imma slap that stupid robe of ya stupid head. Then Imma stab you with your stupid fancy atheme you like to wave around all the time. And donât even start on your âTypical male, always resorting to violenceâ shtick, cause guess what, Iâm a ciswoman and I still wanna stomp a mudhole in your ass. And for that...Imma slap your dumb bird too. *Deep breath in. Looooooong exhale.* Sorry about that. Mama had to express some rage. I have never had a hate-sink character that made me feel the fiery flames of rage quite like Graywytch...obviously. Her treatment of Danny had me gripping the book tightly and growling about slapping birds and âshanking bitchesâ more than I should probably admit. She is one of those characters that I love how much I hate her. She served the exact purpose she was meant to and it was never cast in a light that she may be right in her treatment of Danny, we are always aware that her mindset is ridiculous. Like the fact outside of her parents Graywytch is the only character to blatantly deadname and misgender Danny. To go off on a small tangent here I may relate too much here because I have a younger brother who is trans (donât worry he is fine with me discussing it in reviews and such) and I went to a graduation party when my best friend graduated medical school and he was out to the family but not extended friends yet. After only referring to him by the proper pronouns for so long at home hearing the wrong ones caused legitimate eye blinking record scratch cognitive dissonance for me. I had the same feeling anytime Graywytch opened her stupid mouth and blatantly misgendered Danny. Because the way this is written Danny is Danny, she is exactly who she is meant to be. Suck it Graywytch!
Okay, I know you probably want to hear about the plot I know, but we have one more character we have to talk about and that is Calamity, the rootinâ-ist tootinâ-ist vigilante that ever did come through these here parts. Sorry, I have to talk like this now, itâs part of the persona, you have to commit to the persona. But real talk, I absolutely love Calamity as a look into âgraycapesâ and the real dive into the world of superheroes beyond the big heroes. We get to see how someone who doesnât have the backing of the Legion goes about helping people, the little people, those that maybe the Legion way up in their tower canât see from so high up in the clouds. And yâall know me, I love a morally gray vigilante with a heart of gold. She had me at âYou wanna go capinâ?â
Now obviously I couldnât get enough of the characters but the plot was pretty darn good too. It was so intricately woven in with Danny and her inheriting the mantle from the previous Dreadnought that she had no choice but to be an integral part of it. Now I obviously donât have as much to say about the plot as I did the characters but know if you come for the plot you wonât be disappointed. It kept me guessing and threw me for an absolute curve ball at the end that I did not see coming! You wonât be disappointed.
So final thoughts...there isnât much more I can say without going on an hours long squeal fest about how much I freaking loved this book and the characters and the intricacies of how Dannyâs powers work and how she was written and how she interacts with different characters and just everything that would mean massive untakebackable spoilers! So I will end on this note; Danny is a character that it would have been easy to lean into the superhero aspect and let the reader forget that she was trans, but April Daniels didnât want that. Danny was gifted the easiest transition in the history of the world. What takes most people years of HRT and surgeries and therapy Danny did in the passing of a mantle, but it never took away the fact she is and always will be trans. It was a unique reading experience that I have only been blessed with once before but thatâs a story for a different review on a different day.
Queer Wrap-up: I would give my left kidney (thatâs my good one btw) to give this book five unicorns, but alas I cannot, a one off conversation in an elevator hinting that a certain improbable doctor may have a one sided thing for a particular sadly straight scandinanvian god being is just not enough to count as additional rep. As much as I love this book, and I love it A LOT! We only have Danny as our queer rep and she is fantastic rep and our protagonist so a 4 unicorn rating was a no brainer on this one. Danny is the kind of trans rep I want to see more of in the world of books, YA and otherwise. Being a trans lesbian is a huge part of her character but she gets to do so much more than that in the breath of the story and thatâs what I look for in great representation, so Danny easily earned these 4 unicorns on her own merit just being her amazing self.

Dominc Nobleâs Review
Alright so...this one got long. Ah hell, I ain't gonna apologize for it! This is a damn good book and I wanted to get my fangirl squeal on yâall.Â
Oh no, I think Iâve been thinking about Calamity too much I slipped into the persona without meaning to! This book was just far too much fun to read to the point I started reading it out loud with a full cast of voices (hint: the Calamity parts were my favorite) because it flowed so well and was genuinely so funny at parts and heart wrenchingly sad in others and so action packed the next moment. I finished this book in less than a day and if I had been more present and not under a pile of blankets and wearing a headlamp I might have thought to keep a timer to tell you the exact number of hours it took me, but alas know it didnât take me many.Â
So the adventures reading in the dark continue on to the next review after this one but as always if you want to read this but donât want to spend the money without knowing for sure you are going to like it, go to your local library. Youâd be surprised what they have on their shelves just waiting to be discovered. Trust me, Iâm a lesbrarian.

Final Space Season 3 Reviews: The Ventrexian
Hello all you happy people and welcome back to my reviews of Final Space! This week was a damn good one but before I get into that I have a bit to get off my chest first. Iâve been struggling a bit covering the show. Iâm not going to stop, I decided against that, but I felt opening up about it might help a bit.Â
I chalk it up to a number of things. The first is that the show went back to Season 1âČs style of storytelling. To compare season 1 was basically one long, four hour film. There were plots within the episodes but it was one complete story. Season 2 was also one complete story, but had a more relaxed pace to it, with the episodes feeling more like indvidual bits of media and less part of one big operatic season long story. Neither approach is bad but so far the shows iâve covered, both on a week to week basis and indvidually for varoius reasons, have taken the approach season 2 did, more episodic adventures with the plot still moving right along. And with Season 2 being you know, the second season, I didnât expect the show to return to Season 1âČs storytelling, if with some embeleshments from season 2 like the cold opens that really help it flow better, so I was caught off guard.Â
The second is that I hadnât reviewed a ânewâ show week to week in some time and thus forgot their was an adjustment period, and combinging that with the fact Sunday used to be a catchup day or a break with reviews before Final Space started, I was caught off guard and thus struggled a bit. I seriously considered ending these reviews.. but eventually realized why I did, that I had more to say and I donât HAVE to be as in depth with the recap portion of the review every single time. A review should be as long or short as it needs to be. Not TOO short mind, but I donât have to provide a detailed synopsis when you can usually , by the time I get this showâs ones out anyway, see the episode yourself or go to the wiki.Â
TLDR: Reviewing this show has been a bit of a learning experince, and a re-learning experince but I realized I shoudlnât give up because itâs hard, and if I did that EVERY TIME that became a problem, I wouldnât of lasted a full year of reviews. So join me under the cut as we dive deep into Avacatoâs past, Gary and Quinnâs intamcy issues and cosmic god swordfights.Â
As itâs been our heroes are mostly seperated into their own plots, same lineups as last time, though this time Bollo and Garyâs plots come together at the very end. And I will say before I get into each one while this isnât a bad storytelling engine, and Final Space has used it well in the past... I REALLY miss the interaction between the characters. Itâs something the show got REALLY good at in season 2. The friction caused by Gary and Clarence jockying for control, Ashâs weird sorta relatoinship with LIttle Cato that I miss as I still lowkey ship those two, Fox and LIttle Cato slowly growing from enimies due to their respective raceâs centuries long war to friends, Nightfall having to deal with the fact our Gary isnât hers, HUEâs relationship with AVA, EVERYONE hating KVN.. there was just a LOT of good stuff int here that I miss. I get why itâs gone, the stakes are really high right now and we still have gotten some of it like the whole Feel Me sequence.. I just hope we get some more back as we go , especially since Ash and Fox, whose unique deisgns got me to catch up with the series for season 2 in the first place and whose personalites made them instantly adopted children of mine, have been pushed to the side during these first three episodes and hopefully weâll get a bit more soon. Itâs just something I hope we get back as we go, especially with two new members joining the Team Squad this week for the old guard to bounce off of. And thaâts not even getting into the fact thereâs a lot to unpack for Gary with his mom trying to be a good mom after decades of bullshit. But weâll see, I canât predict the future. I can break down this episode soooo.
Team Avacato: Butcher
This part was easily the highlight of the episode. To start us off the episode begins by flashing us back to when Invictus grabbed a seemingly dead Lord Commander last season. Turns out he wasnât QUITE as dead as Nightfall thought. We also find out that LC.. has no idea who Invictus is. This tracks when I think about it:Â He had, and still has, a worshipful reverence for the titans, wanting to become one and gain the power of a god and clearly thought they were at the top of the food chain. If he knew someone else was behind it.. he wouldâve brought them up sooner, especially since he has a love of giving manical speeches where he hot dogs and grandstands for a bit before choking someone to death. He was also suprised the titans just ignored him.Â
But now he knows.. but even when confronted with a horrifying demonic entity who just swiped him from near death, heâs still as egosticial and cold as ever. But invictus has a tempting offer: They can give Lord Commander what he wanted: they can MAKE HIM A TITAN. We donât know if htis is true or not of course, but given the sheer scale of invictus power and the fact theyâve had an army of titans under their thrall for centuries, if anyone can do it they can.Â
All invictus wants in return.. is Mooncake. I do love Lord Commanderâs âOh for fuckâs sakeâ reaction to finding out he has to seek him out again. His tone just screams...
Invictus needs our little buddy though: Turns out, ironically enough given Boloâs situation until the end of last season, Invictus is imprisoned and needs Mooncakeâs power to break the seal. And given the sheer power this thing has displayed WITHOUT being at full....
Yeah itâs not great. Invictus restores Lord Commander to normal.. and as seen last episode and confirmed here, his powers are no longer destroying his body to use, so the one thing keeping him from killing them all and ending the show in 5 minutes is now off the table.Â
So with our heroes all nights of wundagory, Lord Commander zeroes in on the Catos. Which makes a ton of sense: He dosenât KNOW Ash, Fox or Sheryl. At all. Lord Commander isnât just a bastard heâs a SADISTIC bastard. While he could work on the rest of them itâs just no fun for him as he canât add a personal touch. You can see how much he enjoys this, he never avoids this, because buddy heâs a diffrent breed, this is his calling, and though iâts applaing, he loves making people bleed... emotionally and physically.Â
So our own personal antichrist spends the episode forcing Avacatoâs backstory out of him. Sure he could just tell it himself but as I said via refrence .. he ENJOYS this.
While we got part of Avacatoâs backstory in season 1, he worked for lord comander, did the worst shit imaginable, knows heâll never be able to ballance those books, and the one line he ended up drawing was his son, who LC decided to use as a barganing chip. that was towards the END of his life as Lord Commanderâs right hand monster. This is his origin. After loosing his first son, Avacato, a loyal solider of the ventrixian army, kept fighting despite having nothing left to fight for. What happened to his first son and all that we donât know yet.. but he was just left a souless killing machine fighting a war that had been going on so long his people forgot it, the same one brought up last season. Yeah Fox and LIttle Catoâs fued comes off a bit more horrifying in hindsight.Â
So one day he was outgunned, outmanned, outnumbered and outplanned... when Lord Commander showed up, murdered EVERYONE in the opossing armor and asked them all to kneel, with Avacato taking his time. Later that day Avacato apporached the Lord Commander... who saw right through him. He was a warrior, but the war he was fighting was hollow.. he was a butcher, a murderer with no real purpose or direction... and Lord Commander was all too happy to offer him one, bettering the universe and all that crap.. though how much he belivies it remains to be scene. I must say David Tennat is at his peak this episode, giving his best performance as the green asshole yet, full of gravitas and cruelty as youâd expect and showing WHY people followed him: He gave the purposeless purpose and easily could talk people into following him. Looking back Superior Stone probably GENUINELY belivied that he was doing something good. Lord Commanderâs just that good at his job.Â
So he just had one favor to ask, kill the king and queen who Avacato had served loyally and heâll give him something real to fight for. And he did so. Naturally LIttle Cato is horrified and Ash TRIES to help sooothe his concisne pointing out his mind was twisted up and all that.. but Avacato solemly notes âIâm the one who pulled the triggerâ. Ash means well.. but Avacato knows the truth: what he did there was horrid: a horrible betryal of two people just to feel something. No matter how much good heâs done since or how much heâs changed... Avacato knows what he did was horrible and no matter how hard he tries that ledger canât be ballanced. He does good.. but itâs because itâs the right thing, not because he ever belivies he can be forgiven or work past what heâs done. And the show dosenât make the case that he should or answer the hard questions.. it just leaves it there and given Olanâs outright said this arc is going to span seasons, if hopefully we get more mind you, I feel itâs going to be a long road to exploring that.Â
And.. one other thing about the incident. As it turns out, and as Avacato left out of the story, and Lord Commander likely let him both because heâs out of intergation time and because he can use that later: Avacato was the son of the king and queen. Avacato murdered his parents, and then adopted him, even if Lord COmmander wasnât happy about it. And now heâs stuck holding onto something THIS bad knowing itâll destroy his son and their relationship when it comes out.. and thatâs the problem. Itâs not an if.. itâs a WHEN. Also everyoneâs being dragged towards invictus. Uh-oh.Â
Team Gary and Bollo: YAY BISKITS BACK... I think Yay still deciding Meanwhile on the DragonHawk 5, iâm going with Garyâs Name because as much as Quinnâs growing on me the galaxy 2 is an objectiely lazy name, but Gary picks out a room for them.. only for Quinn to suggest seperate rooms and Gary to clearly and understandably be bothered by it. This is a mixed bag. On the one hand I feel for him as he spent months trying to save quinn, sheâs only doing this because sheâs hiding something horrible from him, as we find out the infection we saw in the first episode has spread through her body, and he just wants to be with her. But on the other hand.. theyâve dated what.. a month and a day? Itâs a bit much. The only reason this works is that that part isnât really dwelt o and the actings good.. it just takes me out of it at times when my brain reminds me of this, and itâs something the show REALLY needs to explore at some point instead of just treating Gary and Quinn as JUST some shakesperian romance across all time.. I mean it is, but itâs also an awkard but loveable dork and a stralighaced woman whose been through hell who both really need to know one another bette.rÂ
So naturally this conflict dangles over them, but they have bigger issues: i.e. a new crew member! As mentioned Biskit is back, having snuck aboard and being entirely deranged. I donât know what to make of him yet as while he was adorable last time this time his entire attuide is essentallyÂ
No really he asks why they arenât banging and interupts gary ALMOST getting Quinn to open up. But unlike say Tribore, itâs clear BIskt isnât all there, and clearly has no frame of refrence for how creepy heâs being, so iâm willing to see how it plays out.Â
So our heroes arrive at Bollo. Bollo spent the episode hunting down Orekis.. heâs sitll bitter about the whole stealing his girlfriend and giving her an std thing. Just a tad. So we get a truly EPIC battle including the two throwing each other THROUGH planets and one really cool bit where Bolo slides on the ring of a planet. So fucking awesome. Eventually he wins, though he now has an infection of some sort, that canât be good, and Mooncake headblasts him.
Things arenât great though as Gary isnât happy when he finds out Bolo lied about his and quinnâs deaths to use Mooncake, with Bolo admitting he got clouded by revenge. But itâs clear theirs a divide in goals: Gary just wants to get the hell out and Bolo wants to stop invictus. And.. neither are wrong. Gary is understandable: He didnât want any part of this shit to begin with, only going with the key quest to save Quinn. All going to final space has done and dealing with it in general has done has cost him people: Avacato (He got better but stillc ounts), Nightfall.. and his dad. Itâs understandable that after ALL of this he just wants to find his surrogate family and LEAVE.Â
But Bolo.. is right. his methods arenât great and he needs to be more honest with Gary... but Invictus isnât going to go away magically if Gary ignores him. Heâs not Tucker Carlson. Heâs right to go after him and therâes no easy answer here. As weâve seen iwth Quinn staying in final space fucks you up.. but if Gary dosenât all of space my die.. or worse. Itâs a decision heâs going to have to face soon: his family.. or everything.Â
Final Thoughts: This episode is truly excellent. After a rough start to the season and a decent episode last time this episode is just out and out brilliant, filling in some more blanks with Avacato and progressing things at a nice clip. Really great stuff. Hopefully this pace continues. Until next week join my patreon, follow this space for more and see you at the next rainbow.Â
PS: I forgot to mention Cookie Robot.. as therâes now a cookie robot.Â

Yuletide 2020 Letter
Dear potential writer,
I truly hope all is well with you and yours. No matter what state you find yourself in, my wish is that Yuletide boosts your spirits and gives you the extra jolt we all could use to usher in the new year.Â
Thank you for taking the time to read my letter and thank you in advance if you decide to write anything for me!
Below are my desired fandoms and pairings along with story ideas that I would love to see written. Please donât feel stifled by my prompts; Iâve also listed my general likes and dislikes at the very bottom of this letter if you decide to go a different route.
Little Women (2019):
Characters: Amy March and Theodore âLaurieâ Laurenceâ
The main reason I adore this adaptation is because it made me see why Amy and Laurie ended up together. They had very similar worldviews and fit so well what the other needed. Both deserved to be with someone that valued them for who they are. With Laurie, Amy was not just financially secure but with someone who encouraged her to express herself creatively, politically, or however she chose. With Amy, while she grounded Laurie in reality and challenged him to be the best version of himself, he didn't have to fundamentally change to make her happy.
Story ideas:
These quotes really show how Amy's perspective on life was different than her sister's: "You are your family's hope." (Aunt March) "Iâve always known I would marry rich." (Amy March) That's a lot of pressure on someone so young. We heard some of Laurie's thoughts, mostly that he didn't think Amy should feel ashamed for wanting that. How would some of that pressure continue even after she got married, and what would Laurie say to make her realize they were in life together as a team and she didnât have to suffer the weight of the world alone?
The conversation between Amy and Laurie in the painting studio showed just how level-headed and intelligent she was. Laurie, while not wholly agreeing, was respectful and didn't discount her thoughts. It would be interesting to see the impact on their story if Vaughn hadn't arrived, and this had played out more. Would the proposal have happened earlier and/or how would later scenes be altered as a result of further conversation?
What did the other characters think of Amy and Laurie's relationship, and how did it change after seeing them interact more as a couple? It would be interesting to read about Meg, Marmee, John, or some of the other characters realizing they were genuinely a good match for each other.
Post-canon, I'd love to get a glimpse of what kinds of conversations they had. Did Amy encourage Laurie to pursue a career and find what he was passionate about (music perhaps as Laurie mentioned writing an opera)? And similarly, did Laurie encourage Amy to pursue her art? Did they continue to have in-depth conversations about societal pressures and expectations of gender in certain economic classes?
Tenet:
Characters: The Protagonist, Kat, and Neil
Tenet is the first movie I've seen in theaters since Star Wars IX. There have been some mixed reviews, but my love for Christopher Nolan sci-fi films combined with the experience of stepping foot in a theater again made it a wonderful experience for me. Sure, the plot could be confusing at times, but it was fun trying to fit certain puzzle pieces together and oh so thrilling when things just clicked into place in the most satisfying ways.
I adored the dynamic between Neil and the Protagonist. The easy friendship, the banter, the suits... everything. I also loved the relationship between the Protagonist and Kat. It started off as each using the other but transformed into one of genuine care on both sides. Ever the romantic, I definitely saw something more than just friendship between the two and was slightly disappointed the movie didn't explore that aspect more. Â
For pairings, Iâm interested in friendships between all of the characters. Iâd be interested in seeing a romantic relationship between Kat and the Protagonist if youâre up for that, but not between Neil and Kat, nor Neil and the Protagonist. If you really want to give a romantic partner to Neil, I'd be fine with Laura (or an original female character if sheâs not the focus of the story), but please, no slash. While Iâd be ecstatic to see all three characters together, if you can only find a way to fit in two, thatâs wonderful as well!
Story ideas:
Even though Andrei Sator is gone, there are still other players in the game, some like Priya, who want to eliminate Kat or even abduct her with the delusional idea she can continue her husband's work. The Protagonist (and Neil, if you so choose) ensures no harm comes to her, and he realizes that keeping her at a distance may not have been the best idea.
I personally don't buy into the fan theory that Neil is Kat's son Max; however, I do find the idea intriguing and would be up for reading about how that worked. The Protagonist breaks his rule and sees Kat, helping to raise her son Max/Neil and eventually teaching him about inversion.
The Protagonist doesn't have to wait quite as long as he'd thought to see Neil again. It can be the Neil who had already met him and knows about Tenet or the Neil who knows nothing about inversion.
What conversations did Neil and Kat have while the Protagonist was asleep after almost freezing to death? Maybe Neil explained the finer workings of Tenet and inversion more in-depth. Perhaps they discussed the Protagonist.Â
Clueless:
Characters: Cher Horowitz and Josh Lucas
This movie set the bar high for teen romantic comedies. How can anyone ever beat 90s Alicia Silverstone and Paul Rudd? Plus, the relationship between their two characters is fantastic. Josh and Cher just bring out the best in each other. Cher shows Josh that he doesn't need to be so serious all of the time and that people are more than their outer appearances. Josh makes Cher want to be a better person, and he believes that she's not just a pretty face. Their banter and playful moments always make me smile.
Story ideas:
Knowing Josh and Cher end up together, this brings a heightened awareness to rewatches. They have so many casual touches and exchanged glances (when did Paul Rudd's eyes get so blue?) that it's hard to miss their natural chemistry. It may take quite some time for Cher's dad to notice anything has changed because they don't act all that different from before. Is there something that makes him finally take notice? How does he react?
Sort of related to the last prompt, there's a moment where Josh decides to go to the dance to keep an eye on Cher and Christian, and you can tell by Mel Horowitzâs smirk he realizes Josh has a crush on Cher. Does he do anything to push it along or play matchmaker just like his daughter?
I've always been curious about whether or not Josh believes Cher's story about being assaulted in the car by Elton and then held at gunpoint. We skip over Josh pulling up to the phone booth and go straight to Cher already being in the car. How did Josh react when she reiterated the story, and does he instantly believe her, or does it take some convincing? I'd like to see if he comforts her and if they both go together to tell Cher's dad what happened.
Cher is obviously very intelligent socially, if not always so much academically. When it comes time to apply for college, what does she major in? And how is Josh a positive influence in Cher's life, encouraging her to be ambitious and not letting negative comments from guidance counselors or teachers dissuade her?
Things I donât like:
Alternate Universes â For the specific fandoms that I picked, I really like the universes as they are. Iâm definitely okay with deviations from canon, but please donât make Little Women into a supernatural werewolf story or have Tenet take place in a mundane coffee shop setting. (I donât mind Soulmate AUs or something similar because those can be incorporated into canon with little change to worldbuilding).
Non-Con/Rape/BDSM/Sexual Violence/Graphic Sex â I like my characters to be happy and everything within ships to be 100% consensual, no question about it (mentions of non-con if it occurred in canon is fine). I also prefer plot over porn, especially with one-shots.
OT3s â Two people per romantic relationship, please. Any more than that makes me uncomfortable.
Character Bashing - Unless a character is a bad guy in canon, I donât want to read hundreds of words about how awful they are, especially if they are one of the characters that I requested. Donât take it out on the characters. If you hate my pairings, just write gen.
Things I love:
Hurt/Comfort â There is nothing I love more than one character comforting another. The hurt can be physical, psychological, or both. Â
Happy Endings â Iâm all for the realistic endings⊠but if they could be plausible AND at least happy-ish, that would be amazing.
Expanded Scenes/Contorting Canon â Feel free to expand scenes and change up the canon to your heartâs content as long as it makes logical sense.
Humor/Banter/Snark â I thrive on this stuff.
Bonding/Building Relationships â Whether it be a friendship or a romantic relationship, I adore reading about two people growing closer together. When characters know each other so well that they can have conversations with just their eyes or anticipate the personâs next move (especially if itâs to the surprise/confusion of everyone around them), my shipper heart is thrilled.
Dark to Light â Seeing a character come out of a bad mindset or situation and get better is so satisfying.
Happy writing and I hope you get the Yuletide gift of your dreams!

Ok but... I know you hate Riverdale. I get hating Riverdale, it's bad for the reasons you and initiumseries talk about in your drunk reviews and I laugh with you.... but how don't ppl understand that to a degree it's *purposefully* campy and terrible? Yea, the writing is bad regardless, but it's no worse than most CW teen shows imo? The dialogue and style of the production and writing is legit obnoxiously stupidly camp and that's what most people bandwagon think they're smart for criticising?
The issue with this is that Riverdale doesnât have the charm or the wit to pull any of what youâre saying off so it doesnât come across as campy and terrible but fun and a joy to watch, it comes across as joyless and pretentious and genuinely terrible. This is why @initiumseriesâ and I always, ALWAYS go back to Buffy because that is a show thatâs aware of how ridiculous aspects of its premise can be and they use it, theyâre gleeful off of it
The Zeppo is a brilliant episode that does this because Giles is a watcher, Willow is a witch, Buffy is the slayer and Xander is .... so itâs an entire episode making fun of its own writing because they, as writers, donât have a function for Xander
and while itâs poking fun at that, itâs also poking fun at its own tropes like Angel and Buffy being this maudlin, angsty, over-the-top teen romance, which is something the verse does oftenÂ
Scream Queens on the other end of the spectrum is completely, fucking bonkers
but itâs hilariousÂ
because itâs this off-kilter, smart satire on millennials, rich people and mainstream American culture as well as a satire on people who hate millennials and rich people and mainstream American cultureÂ
while also just being super chaotic and weird
but despite the fact that itâs chaoticÂ
and despite the fact that everyone seems to be having a lot of fun with the material while committing 100% to their roles everything has a purpose in its randomness.Â
Community is a less extreme version of this
while also being a show that constantly draws attention to itself as being a television show, making fun of tropes while also perpetuating themÂ
and having Abed narrate everything as itâs happening while also making accurate pop culture references to characterize the characters around him who are also, in fact, characters like him
but instead of Abed, Riverdale has Jughead. Jughead.
Riverdale just sacrifices logic for aesthetic --- usually bad aesthetic ---Â
and doesnât care, itâs like âit can be winter one minute and summer the next, sometimes weâre in the 50s, sometimes weâre in the 2010s, Cheryl wears red all the time and is a sometimes archer, Archie can be in a fight club in juvie and start a militia because I feel like itâ and that isnât fun to watch ESPECIALLY with a horribly stilted cast like the one that they have.
In order to be effectively campy, you have to have charisma and you actually have to be smart to pull off something that is intentionally terrible while also ACTUALLY being satirical, we should be seeing something like thisÂ
Riverdale doesnât have the wit nor does it lean into having an off-kilter sense of humour to pull off doing a fun *wink wink* to the audience, like this should be a witty one-liner and itâs framed like it is but heâs just describing whatâs happening
just like this, this isnât punchy or deliberately bad, itâs supposed to be ironic
and itâs not ironic.Â
BTVS or Community would actually come up with something clever or Scream Queens would come up with something ridiculous, which is why in one of the drunk reviews initiumseries gets annoyed when Archie and Jughead are talking because itâs framed like theyâre bantering but Archie is just answering a question, itâs a normal conversation, and thatâs my issue with Riverdale, it sucks at what it tries to do which makes it AWFUL.

Alex ze Pirate âMini Reviewâ 1: About Male Abuse
Alex ze Pirate is in my opinion the WORST âcomicâ series Dobson has ever written up until this point (date for archives: June 2020). Sure, I agree with people that his âhot takeâ comics on Star Wars Fans, political issues and virtue signaling for the sake of making brownie points are worse overall cause they are uneducated propaganda that give insight in how much of a loathsome human being driven by spite he genuinely is, but Alex âoffendsâ me as someone who enjoys fiction. It may not be the worst thing ever written, but it just does so many things wrong in terms of storywriting, storytelling, presentation and creating fictional characters, I canât help but wonder what went wrong that Dobson even remotely thought this thing would be a âsuccessfulâ comic series to establish him as a creator. Cause I can tell you, having read the likes of Don Rosaâs work on Disney, Hilda, Cleopatra in Space, Spirou, Asterix, One Piece (of which I will talk a lot in my next few posts) and many more, I can confirm by comparison that Dobsonâs pirates as a published comic would have only one use on the public shelves: alternative for toilet paper during the COVID-19 epidemic
Believe me, I would love to write an in depth analysis of everything wrong with Alex ze Pirate, from the lazy artwork up to even the publication history of this trainwrack. But doing so would take a lot of time and there is one individual part of this I think deserve at least extra attention. Something that in my opinion embodies quite well a lot of things I consider wrong with this comic. So before I am going over Alex in its entirety (and believe me, the day will come) let me just talk within the next few posts about one certain aspect and story of the comic, that genuinely got me to loath this comic to the core: Sam the Cabin Boy and âhisâ own individual story Dobson drew in three parts around 2010. Â
For starters, lets talk who Sam is: Sam is one of the main characters in the comic and actually the first person who joined Alex and Peggy in the initial pages of Legends, the âoriginalâ form of Alex ze Pirate.
See, back in 2004, Dobson released Alex ze Pirate in form of a single comic volume called âLegendsâ which features Alex trying to recruit a crew. The thing is around 78 pages thick and based on what I saw pretty terribly paced. For comparison: When Luffy in One Piece got his crew together, he spend multiple volumes and at least three minor story arcs to get Zoro, Nami, Sanji and Usopp to join him. All while also giving us good insight into the kind of people his new crewmates were (especially Sanjiâs and Namiâs backstory got to me), defeating the likes of Buggy and Captain Black, meeting Dracula Mihawk and defeating one of the biggest bastards Eichiro Oda ever created in form of Arlong. What is the story how Sam joins the crew? An orphanage organizes an auction and sells kids off. Which I assume was even illegal in pirate times, so kudos for already showing us how despicable the world of Alex ze Pirate is to begin with and how much it deserves to be nuked in some sort of alien invasion.
Sam also doesnât really get anything to do when he is introduced, just helping Alex escape on a small boat. Which is weird because he does not know her at all, she is just some stranger who bought him off and has no means to keep him in check, so why even bother following her and not let the mob get rid of Alex?Â
Anyway, I wish I could tell more about Samâs involvement in Legends, but I donât have really more than some scans of it in the beginning and near the end. So I donât know his involvement in the rest of the volume. I also canât say how he plays out in volume two, because that does not exist at all. Cause for reasons I will never understand, Dobson just abandoned the idea of telling a âcoherentâ and ongoing story with Alex ze Pirate and instead went to his colored one page comics/strips with it, turning it into what some people called âGarfield with Piratesâ (which I consider a genuine insult towards any newspaper comic out there, even something as Boondocks). And the first thing we see of Sam in âclassicâ Alex ze Pirate?
The perverted dwarf of the crew showing of his shota underwear so that Alex and Sam stop bickering who is the cutest, leaving him embarrassed and humiliated.
Which kinda sums up his role in the comic to a t. Cause this is what Sam is: He is the buttmonkey of the crew. And honestly, I would not have a total problem with Sam being a buttmonkey, if a) he wasnât it all the time, b) he would actually do something to deserve any form of humiliation and c) if the other characters in this comic itself would not be some of the biggest assholes I have ever seen, who get away with abusing the poor lad.
See, here is the problem: In a crew featuring a choleric homophobic soulless ginger
A black rat person who wants to fuck the ginger even without her consent
A furry abomination that has the same brain wavelengths as Chris ChanÂ
And a perverted dwarf who tries to impersonate Happosai from Ranma 1/2
Sam is the only decent person in the entire crew. He works hard, he even questions the morality of his friends at times, he is honest, he is not perverted, almost good to the point of childish innocence and he has a very humble âgoalâ which is he wants to own his own piece of gold. Not even a big pile of treasure, just one single coin would be enough for him.
So he is likeable and relatable. In fact, if anything goes by, he may have been one of the most popular ones in the comic. And yet he is the one who gets constantly abused by âfateâ and his friends, because as Dobson would say it, he is supposed to be the buttmonkey. There is just one problem: People do not necessarily like buttmonkeys.
I can primarily speak only for myself here, but I hope what I have to say resonates with others too. See, I get it: A character who is the butt of a joke can be fun. Like Daffy in Duck Amuck. But there is a fine line where a character being humiliated for the sake of a joke is fun (and perhaps even deserved because of his own shortcomings or deeds/actions that make the humiliation sort of kharmic, like lets say Johnny Bravo) and a character being humiliated to the point it feels disproportional, unfunny and mean spirited if not outright sadistic, can be crossed. Take Meg Griffin from Family Guy for example whose only âpurposeâ for existing within the last 12+ years is to get shat on by her family and the writers. People have no idea for a plot with her, so what do they do? Have her father physically and emotionally abuse her, fart in her face for what is supposed to count as a joke and then add additional insult to it by acknowledging that they are only doing this, because they have no other idea for her and think abuse is fun. Let me just tell you from experience, it is not.
And that is essentially what Sam is: He is the Meg Griffin of Alex ze Pirate, used by his creator as the butt of very unfunny jokes, even if he does not deserve any of the things said or done to him. Want to see some examples?
How about the description Dobson gives Sam within the introduction of one of his volumes, showing how little Dobson as the creator even cares for him.
Why is he called an unworthy âslobâ if he is the only one who actually works? Shouldnât a slob be someone like Dobson, who canât even take care of himself anymore? Also the confirmation that he was kidnapped at the age of 16. And as we have no clarification how much time passed between Legends Vol. 1 and anything afterwards, that means that in a way Alex is a child abuser.
And now, here some examples by the rest of the cast. Like Uncle Peggy framing him for all sorts of his perverted actions and even trying to kill him for no apparent reason?
Alex trying to kill him with chicken poxâŠ
âŠDestroying all his worldly posessions which is hilarious because he is a poor orphanâŠ
âŠEssentially describing him as worthless because he was born with an Y-chromosomeâŠ
⊠doing the kind of thing Dobson claims women would never do to man, using their sex appeal to hurt themâŠ
âŠforcing him to do some unnecessary and rather petty work for her in a physics defying manner (seriously, the way he holds the axe does not compute with how he swings it. Try it out yourself)
⊠stealing his food and just being a cruel sadistic cunt to him just because it is fun.
Which is âfunnyâ in so far as that there are a few comics indicating she would jump his dick and ride it like a little pony if she could.
By the way, Talus and Atea are not better. None of them calls Alex out on her bullshit on average, Atea uses Sam to trigger traps in one story arcâŠ
And Talus, the closest to a âfriendâ he is supposed to have, once for no apparent reason made him dig through his litterbox
And donât get me even started when the characters decide to gang up on Sam, to the point he gets sexually harassedor is called to be less worth as a human being than the dirt you find in your belly button
Fuckâs sake, even in fanart everyone gangs up on him, even the freaking big bad of the story everyone is supposed to hate or be afraid of
Bottom line, Sam is an abuse victim played for laughs in this comics. And just to clarify, I do not think this was Dobsonâs intention. But if the character is undeservingly the butt of jokes for the majority of over 120 strips, it turns nasty. The way Sam is treated, I just find disgusting and indictive of just how unlikable any other character in this comic is to the point I do not want to see this being turned into a proper âfranchiseâ. And I assume others were disgusted by it too, cause Dobson eventually decided to make a story more or less addressing the treatment Sam receives, while also attempting to prove that deep down the assholes with starring roles in this trainwrack care for him. How did this play out? Well, I am going to talk about it, so likely not well. If you want to see the details, grab yourself some popcorn and take a toilet break before we tackle part 2 of this thing.

Menajerimi Ara Episode 10- A Few Thoughts (Or A Rant)
Okay, so I've been watching Menajerimi Ara for a few weeks and the reaction to the last episode was what made my feelings boil over and finally forced me to voice my thoughts. I was taking numerous notes while watching which were mostly me fangirling over Dicle and Feris but I hope I sound coherent.
I'd like to start off with how much I adore Dicle. I have loved many female characters over the years (e.g recently Eda and Ceren, of Sen Ăal Kapımı) but Dicle is the one I relate most to. It was her character that drew me into the story and kept me hooked. I love that she's sensitive, expressive, hardworking, quietly confident yet humble. She cries but she keeps powering through. I absolutely adore her and just want to follow her story to see her succeeding and being happy.
Rating War and Social Media
The reason that really made me write was the brief snippet I got into the fandom's reaction while going through twitter to follow the live translation. I very rarely go to twitter for fan discourse because it's too fast and crazy for my taste.
While I am glad that the day change grabbed ratings and the social media fandom is crucial in getting their views heard and making the hashtags trend, I was genuinely surprised by the few tweets I passed over regarding Emir's introduction and how the tracks were being written.
I completely agree that the writing did seem contrary at times to me. The characters seemed to be taking inconsistent decisions on the whim of the writer just to cause drama. Also, the it was more focused on the personal lives of the managers rather than the industry drama.
All of this just reinforced the reactive and extremely volatile nature of the Turkish TV Industry and the instant lashing. But it made me realise how rigid we as an audience have become.
People arguing that they want the original writing and arcs, and especially "Dicbar", while at the same time arguing that the real reason they're watching is not for the romance but the industry behind the scenes.
This was particularly reflected in the reading of Emir's character and twisting his actions - partly by the writer because he was introduced entirely as part of a triangle- to make him out to be a controlling person who will prove to be an abusive partner. I mean the reach. It leached all joy out of watching for me.
I dearly hope the writer does NOT take this direction and turn him into a psychopath or a typical antagonist down the road.
Viewing Experience
@howaboutbucky writes AMAZING reviews of the episodes and I wait eagerly for her insights each week. In her last one regarding Episode 9, she hit the nail on the head again. *chef's kiss*
I'd like to build upon what she mentioned regarding MA going the dark path of only trying to bank on woman on woman hate and tension by writing Gulin and especially Beren as they have been doing. I think Dizis suffer the same issue that romance novels in general do. The primary audience is women and it invites alot of scrutiny of women's actions by women themselves. Everything is nitpicked.
What truly angers me though is that even here if men are secondary characters or evil or have no growth arc they are still given a free pass to dwell in more shades of grey than female characters ever do. Because the writers are busy writing cliche tracks and we as an audience are busy picking it apart while male characters get to enjoy even the benefits of being ignored.
Dicle and Selflessness
As I said, Dicle has been my absolute favourite character and I loved that they had managed to balance this quality so far. However, I feel like she is going to fall victim to the 'melek gibi' leads that usually populate dizis. Her selflessness was bordering on stupidity in this episode. I liked how her honesty and goodness was shown as positive in the Burcin episode while in the first one her good intentions with Tuba backfired. How she was going to give up her job to make Kyrach's life easier but then decided that she wouldn't. I loved that she referred to "becoming a little shark" at that point as Kyrach had predicted. I wish the show would keep this balance and show Dicle's greatest strength is her greatest weakness and how she struggles to retain her integrity in the industry. That is what made me emotional.
In this episode, it didn't make me feel, her "selfless" decisions made me mad. What put me off even further was how everyone kept lauding her selflessness, as if the audience would'nt have caught on had not every character bashed us over the head with it. It was as bad as everyone apologising to Beren.
I actually would've like if they portrayed how Dicle's decisions were actually mostly selfish. Who is she to tell BarÄ±Ć to go make up with Beren? As a friend, that is overstepping a line. Her asking Kyrach to make sure Beren was not fired was a way to make herself not feel guilty.
The only time I thought Dicle was being herself was when she balked after finding out Feris had brought her to set to be apologised to. Dicle HAS been established as wanting to avoid conflict since the start. Emir was right on about that.
BarıĆ
Honestly, I wish they'd give us more insight into BarÄ±Ć career, have him do fun friend things with Dicle or just not show him atall and we'll assume he's off with Beren or his friends or whatever. To have him just stand around and be jealous is agonising. @likeablehades and @nawaazishein did a wonderful post about BarÄ±Ć recently. I loved his character since the start, not to ship but just to follow his growth.
Emir
Right off the bat, Emir was written to be the complete opposite of BarÄ±Ć in his mannerisms, in everyway. And you know what? I liked it. I was excited by it. We were going to see another younger actor's experience close up, who was confident and comfortable with his stardom.
I wanted to find out his backstory and what kind of struggles he might face. I sincerely hope that we get to know him more not just in a love triangle but as having a growth arc of his own. I think just using him as a triangle is a reductive reading of his character by the writer. (and the audience)
I love that he's slightly icy yet straightforward. He seems mature and not emotionally constipated??
I'm sincerely hoping we get to delve more into his character and see how his and Dicle's arcs intertwine.
Parallels
I'd like to mention BarÄ±Ć and how he shows emotion. He has said himself that a scream builds inside him. It's interesting how he initially comes off as impulsive yet on closer examination he actually refrains from reacting right away most of the time, especially with Dicle and what we see is him hitting breaking point due to repressed feelings and then taking rash decisions.
In a way I find him similar to Dicle that he avoids confrontation, especially romantic, unless pushed hard. Throughout BarÄ±Ć doesnot show his emotions in the moment. He only broke up with Beren through a scene they were doing.
Perhaps it's a side effect of being an actor. He takes his craft seriously; analysing a scene, understanding a character and then embodying the emotion that fits. I think it carries over to him receding into an observer role in key situations (such as with Dicle on the terrace in Ep 10) and trying to decide the perfect response.
Another thing is how Dicle and Emir parallels Dicle and BarıĆ; thete is a role reversal for Dicle.
I think we tend to get too attached to the first love interest. Personally, I'd love it if BarÄ±Ć and Dicle actually became great friends. (although a waste of chemistry :"( )
From the start, Dicle went into that relationship expecting something romantic and I never felt that she was equal. Whereas with Emir she has always been professional. Dicle doesn't avoid confrontation with Emir ever since he openly pointed out he was testing her. She never gives under pressure.
With no expectations, it feels more of an equal push and pull in their interactions even if they are not romantic.
Some random thoughts I had while watching:
- Dicle looks FIRE in all her scenes. đđđâ€â€â€â€
-Emir is so firmly in the clientzone lol.
- So Dicle is 22, Emir is 28. How old is BarıĆ?
-I love the head wagging Chynar does everytime he's happy and something has been accomplished!!! (at Dicle after she told Burcin the truth and at Kyrach when he told him about Buse being hired.)
-I do womder why BarÄ±Ć doesn't have any friends? :"(
-Aah Feris ahh canim benim.
- I wish we'd get to see small snippets of Dicle talk to her mother more. Not only when she has a problem. I'd love to see what she says to Leyla about her work mom.
-"Other girls might like it." I don't understand why we have to put down other girls in order to be considered strong.
- Julide serving looks!!
- Honestly why is BarÄ±Ć with Beren?????
He has no interest. None of the younger people are in love in this show, it's just infatuation. Beren and Dicle's with BarıĆ.
- Ugghh Deniz Can AktaĆ âĄâĄâĄ That head movement he does as BarıĆ. And the smile. I adore.
- Meral suggesting a BECHAMEL BOOK LMAAOO
-Is "you didn't answer my question" going to be Emir and Dicle's "phrase"?
I love that she's buying a cookbook aaah!!
- And most importantly- WHO IS LEAKING INFORMATION??!!!!!
I can't shake the feeling that it is Gulin.

Is It Really THAT Bad?
Iâm going to warn you all now. This one is going to get a bit angry at the end. Normally I would try and remain as professional as possible, but in this case, I donât feel like I would be able to.
Batman & Robin is a film that has lived in infamy since its release in 1997. Upon release, it was critically reviled, and this hatred of the film continued long into the modern day, where it frequently tops âworst films of all time listsâ to the point where it actually is listed on the Wikipedia page for âList of films considered the worst.â It was nominated for at least 11 Razzies but only won a single one, and it went on to be a frequent punching bag on the {REDACTED] Criticâs web show, where he would get irrationally angry at the mere mention of the Bat Credit Card. In contemporary reviews, Mick LaSalle of The San Francisco Chronicle stated â"George Clooney is the big zero of the film, and should go down in history as the George Lazenby of the series,â which is less of a criticism and more of a compliment, if Iâm being totally honest.
Most of the stars would take a negative stance towards it as well, with legend stating that if you tell George Clooney that you saw the film in theaters, he will refund you for your ticket out of his own pocket. Chris OâDonnell likewise is not particularly fond of the film, stating "It just felt like everything got a little soft the second time. On Batman Forever, I felt like I was making a movie. The second time, I felt like I was making a kid's toy commercial." And, perhaps most depressingly, Joel Schumacher himself was apparently very apologetic for the film, though this may or may not have come about because of years and years of vitriol being directed at him for making this film.
In the wake of Mr. Schumacherâs passing, I decided to re-watch the film, as I am famously rather fond of it, and I am going to tell you all why the answer to the question âIs it really THAT bad?â is a loud, resounding, NO.
THE GOOD
Thereâs honestly quite a lot to like here, more than you might think. I think first and foremost what you need to understand going in is that this is a silly, cartoonish take on the Burton style, blending the silliness and camp of the West series with the drama and aesthetics of the Burton films, all while adding some over-the-top, colorful flair. John Glover, who appears in the film as a cartoonish mad scientist, even has gone on record as saying "Joel would sit on a crane with a megaphone and yell before each take, 'Remember, everyone, this is a cartoon'. It was hard to act because that kind of set the tone for the filmâ⊠the last sentence makes the statement very baffling, but at least even the actors were aware of what they were doing. If this doesnât sound appealing, well, the opening is sure to warn you off, as it is a suiting up montage with various shots of the firm butts, large codpieces, and stiff batnipples of the Dynamic Duo. The movie is very upfront about what youâre in for.
On the subject of the infamous batnipples, Schumacher stated "I had no idea that putting nipples on the Batsuit and Robin suit were going to spark international headlines. The bodies of the suits come from Ancient Greek statues, which display perfect bodies. They are anatomically correct." It seems a very odd choice, but itâs pretty clear that he meant it as an amusing little design choice and nothing more. Of course, this hasnât stopped everyone and their mother from spewing homophobic comments about how he was purposefully making the film gayer, even from star George Clooney, who has said that he played Batman as a gay man and was told by Schumacher Batman is gay. Itâs so disgusting that people did and continue to do this, because honestly, the costumes are fine, and even if they are meant to be fanservice⊠so what? OâDonell and Clooneyâs asses look nice, as does Alicia Silverstoneâs when she dons a suit. The fact hers is just as form-fitting as the other two really shows that the whole idea Schumacher did it because he was gay is ridiculous; the man was very egalitarian about the fanservice in the movie.
Whatever else Clooney says, he does a pretty great job as Batman and Bruce Wayne. His speech at the end of the film where he talks to Mr. Freeze and reminds him that he is a good man and offers to help him is honestly one of the few moments in any Batman film where Batman actually feels like the one from the animated series, a man who fights crime but also wants to help the people heâs trying to stop. Clooney just has a very natural charisma that lends himself to playing a hero, and while there are a few awkward moments in the performance, he captures the fun and charm a more lighthearted Batman should. Michael Goughâs last turn as Alfred is also surprisingly poignant, and a lot of mileage is gotten out of his genuinely tearjerking subplot.
Of course, the very best part of the film is the villains. Uma Thurman is clearly having a ball as Poison Ivy, and she gets to have a ludicrous amount of costumes as well as numerous moments of fanservice. She also has the power to turn every man around her into a simp, which is absolutely amazing and leads to quite a few scenes of Batman and Robin slapping each other over her. But f course, thereâs really no doubt that the best part of the film is Mr. Freeze. Heâs a combination of the sillier Mr. Freeze from the West days and the more modern take of the character most are familiar with, the tragic anti-villain who wants to save his wife; such a character would take a talented man capable of comedy and drama in equal measure. And who better than Arnold Schwarzenegger? Joel Schumacher wanted a man who looked like he was chiseled from a glacier, and Arnold certainly fits that description. He spends the movie juggling some of the most corny puns you can imagine and a lot of truly powerful, understated drama, and it really does work. You honestly get the sense that Arnold really gets Mr. Freeze and what makes him a great character. Also, that suit he has is amazing.
As a final note: the Bat Credit Card is absolutely not stupid. Linkara has defended it in the past, giving reasons why and how it could actually work, but really, all that needs to be said is⊠is this any more ridiculous than Shark Repellent Bat Spray?
THE BAD
So donât get the wrong idea here; this film is far from perfect. As is the case with any comedy, the humor can be hit or miss; not all of the puns land, not all of the jokes are great. Youâre never going to get a perfect comedy no matter how hard you try, and this is no exception.
As for performances, I think OâDonnellâs Robin and Silverstoneâs Batgirl are a bit wonky. O'Donnell has long been a source of derision for his whining, and while I think the hate is a bit overblown, he does spend a ludicrous amount of time in this film being snippy, miserable, and arrogant. I think he actually fights with Batman more than any of the villains! Still, his performance isnât horrible, he just gets a bit too whiny at a few points.
Silverstone is a bit of a bigger problem, but sheâs not quite as bad as even I remembered. Sheâs pretty much Batgirl in name only, since sheâs related to Alfred in this, but sheâs mostly okay. The issue really is that her arc in the film is relatively bland and feels a bit shoehorned, which comes to a head where she fights Poison Ivy in a designated catfight, obviously because they didnât want Batman to punch a woman in the face I guess. Thereâs just one issue with that:
On the subject of Ivy, while she definitely does have plant powers here, theyâre strangely underplayed. She rarely uses them even when it would probably be beneficial, instead relying on Bane to do most of the fighting for her. Ah, Bane⊠Bane is one of the few things about this film I canât really muster up any sort of defense for. While his creation scene is rather cool, it doesnât lead to much of interest, as this version of Bane is pretty much a mindless supersoldier lackey who serves Poison Ivy. Now, this was still relatively early in Baneâs existence, as he had only debuted in 1993 and was really most famous for his signature âbreaking the Batâ move, but it still is baffling why, with that famous thing fresh in everyoneâs minds, that they would just choose to go and basically make Bane into Evil Diet Captain America. Surely they could have either saved him for a sequel or utilized him in a way more befitting of the character? I think this Bane is kind of responsible for the negative perception of Bane as this big, dumb bruiser, something that works like The Dark Knight Rises and Arkham Origins have thankfully gone a long way to rectifying. Bane is at his best when heâs a cunning genius bruiser; here, heâs nothing but a glorified prop.
Is It Really THAT Bad?
The answer is no. No it isnât. AT ALL.
Iâve always felt this film came out at the wrong time. It was towards the end of the 90s, during the Dark Age of Comics when everything was dark, gritty, and edgy. The world didnât want a movie like this back then; they wanted stuff like Blade, who would come in shortly after this film and show us how to make that aesthetic work. I guess in terms of Batman they wanted something more like Dawn of Justice, which really speaks volumes to how awful the 90s were for superheroes.Â
Look, Iâm not trying to convince anyone this is the greatest Batman film ever. Even I donât think that; Batman Returns, The Dark Knight, and Under the Red Hood are all much better films. But is this really the worst Batman film now that we have the deeply misogynistic and disgusting The Killing Joke and the relentlessly bleak and unpleasant Batman v Superman? Hell, itâs not even worse than Batman Forever! At least the Batman in this film has some kind of emotional range beyond âplank of wood!â And even calling it the worst sequel ever is just⊠so baffling. Again, this is definitely better than Batman Forever, lack of Jim Carrey notwithstanding. And can you honestly look me in the eye and tell me that this is worse than any of the Terminator sequels after the second film? Worse than Iron Man 2 or Thor: The Dark World? The almost half dozen Alvin and the Chipmunk sequels? This is only the worst sequel or even a bad sequel if it is the only sequel youâve ever seen in your life.
A lot of the hate for it from back in the day carries a strong undercurrent of homophobia. Much like the infamous backlash against disco, itâs seriously uncomfortable, and it definitely is cruel how accusatory people were towards Schumacherâs intentions for the suits of the heroes in the film. The fact that even the two main stars have gotten in on it is a bit disgusting, though OâDonnell questioning why there needed to be a codpiece is certainly less offensive than George Clooney saying he played Batman as a gay man for⊠whatever reason. Was he implying that Batman being gay made the movie worse? Iâm not sure what heâs on about there. Even The New Batman Adventures made a cruel dig at the film; notice the sign and the effeminate-looking boy. You could only get homophobia this good in the 90s!
The hatred of this film is absolutely overblown. Itâs so ridiculous. #70 on the bottom rated movies of IMDB? #1 on the 50 worst films of all time list from Empire? Doug Walkerâs personal punching bag whenever he needs to talk about a bad sequel, to the point where he literally said no one wanted a comedic take on Batman in his worst sequels video? Come the fuck on.
Joel Schumacher may or may not have ended up hating this film, but he certainly was made to feel like shit for making it⊠and it is honest to god not that bad! But he was just absolutely eviscerated, to the point where this was a fucking headline when he died:
Literally fuck all of these people. Fuck io9 for their insensitive headline. Fuck Empire for rating this as the worst film ever. Fuck Doug Walker for his constant bashing and his shitty old âchimp out over the Bat Credit Cardâ gag. Double fuck Mick LaSalle for shitting on George Clooneyâs performance while also trying to say George Lazenbyâs Bond was bad. In fact, fuck George Clooney for his weird idea that playing Batman as gay is a bad thing (sorry George, but I canât defend this). Fuck the Razzies. Yes, it was nominated, but I just feel itâs always a good time to say âFuck the Razzies.â
I will never say you have to love or even like this film, but the sheer amount of vitriol and hatred for it is absolutely beyond me. At worst, this film is just a bit too goofy, and at best, it is a fun tribute to the campy days when Batman just couldnât get rid of a bomb. I didnât take off my score this time. Iâm proud to say I gave this an 8/10, personally. If Iâm being honest, a 6.6 â 6.9 is more appropriate, because it does have quite a few issues, but god, this film is not bad at all. Itâs silly, goofy, campy, and fun⊠but bad? Not by any stretch of my imagination. And fuck the critics for convincing an entire generation that this is Batman at his worst, when we have Batman fucking slaughtering his ways through criminals and fucking Barbara Gordon on rooftops these days. I will always take stupid ice puns over misery, murder and creepy intergenerational sex, thank you very much.

I hope you can rest easy, Mr. Schumacher. Maybe you didnât love your film in the end but, wherever you are, I hope you know I loved it.

Smokey brand Reviews: Bad Romance
Palm Springs was probably my favorite film from last year. It was this quirky, time-looping, hilarious, romantic comedy with one of the dopest casts I've ever seen. It was headlined, and championed, by Andy Samberg but it would have been nothing without the brilliant chemistry between his co-lead, Cristin Milioti. This chick is fantastic! Sheâs been in a ton of stuff I've loved, Fargo, The Wolf of Wall Street, and Venture Bros. immediately come to mind, but never really had the opportunity to actually excel in her own vehicle. Always the Bridesmaid never the Bride, you know? And then i heard the buzz about this little HBO max show called Made For Love and it is lead by Milioti, herself. Finally, my girl has her wedding day! So, does this show live up to all the hype or is it just middling entertainment like all the other critics seem to think. Letâs get into it.
The Good
Immediately, I'm struck by how well this film is shot. This f*cking thing is gorgeous to look at. Seriously, they do so much with the camera work, so much dynamism, you kind of forget that this is basically just a cable sitcom. The quality put into this show is borderline cinematic and it really shows.
Another big thing that stands out is the music in this show. This soundtrack is exceptional. It feels almost as good as the tunes in Letterkenny. Almost. Letterkenny comes with the f*cking heat but this show, Made for Love, has a perfectly complimentary soundtrack.
I have to say, the writing in this thing is on point. Itâs easily one of the wittiest, wryly hilarious, smartest, series of scripts i have ever had the pleasure of seeing performed. Seriously, I'm kind of in love with all of this dialogue. It feels very Lonely Island-esque, very Tina Fey-ish, and itâs right up my alley.
As a cat that has watched a ton of television and cinema, I've seen this actual plot before. Several times actually. That said, the way this cliche is executed in Made for Love is rather refreshing. The modern and technological framing is a really interesting take on this particular trope. I genuinely loved this story and itâs unique spin on things.
This cast is pretty dope. Ray Romano, Kym Whitley, Dan Bakkedahl, and Noma Dumezweni are all great in their supportive roes but this is, one hundred percent, Miliotiâs vehicle. Iâll get into detail about that later but everyone in this show is excellent in their perspective roles.
That supporting cast are gems in Miliotiâs crown but Billy Magnussen is definitely the prize. Dudeâs Byron Gogol is f*cking repugnant, man, and Magnussen effortlessly captures that scumbaggery. Like, by the time this first season ends, you definitely hate dude and for good f*cking reason. That said...
Cristin Milioti wears the f*ck out of her crown. This is HER show and it wouldnât work with anyone else. Milioti is hilarious and vulnerable and crazed and triumphant and defeated and that range is so palpable in her performance as Hazel. you can tell she was able to actually show her stuff in this role and she puled out all of the stops. This is definitely a star making performance and i think, if this wasnât a pandemic release, she would be one. Time will tell. Personally, i think awards are bullsh*t but, in the context of the industry, the doors those things can open, they are still relevant. Milioti definitely deserves all of the awards for this run.
The Bad
I didnât really like the ending. It felt out of character, especially that last shot. I understand why Hazel did it, that make sense, but it still feels off. After youâve spent seven hours and fifty minutes with this character, seeing what she does in the last ten is kind of bonkers. Actually, that revelation early on feels a bit contrived altogether. I imagine, considering this show is a book adaption, it works better in print but onscreen? Kind of blergh. Especially considering this leaves the show on kind of a âcliffhangerâ for a season two.
This isn't a dig on the show, itself, but i f*cking hate these weekly releases. Let me binge, man. I donât want to wait a week to see new episodes constantly. These ainât Saturday morning cartoons. We grown and this sh*t ainât TV. Get your sh*t together, HBO!
The Verdict
I really liked this show. Made for Love was a fun watch in the same vein as Palm Springs but with a much harder edge. The writing is on point, funny in a macabre sort of way, but entertaining as a whole. It is chock full of great performances, headlined but the ever excellent Cristin Milioti. It starts fast and never really lets up, until it does. That ending, man, was rough. I understand why it went out the way it did but i donât like. It feels disingenuous to the Hazel weâve spent this last month with, ultimately sacrificing the characterâs spirit for season two bait and i kind of hate that. Made for Love is a fun watch at a brisk eight episodes but kind of flubs the landing. If you can look past that and just accept this hing as a vehicle for Cristin Milioti to really show her stuff, i think youâll have a great time with it. Questionable conclusion aside, i think everyone should check this one out.
