Hi I was wondering if you could do a amajiki x reader where reader is on her period and has really bad cramps and mood swings and amajiki has to ask mirio and nejire for advice
SUMMARY: Very apologetically Tamaki has no idea how to handle your shark week, so Mirio and Nejire are here to help him out! A/N: Very apologetically I too am not sure if things were accurate I'M SORRY I DON'T EXPERIENCE THIS so I'm literally trying to remember what my ex gf was like FORGIVE ME ALSO FOR BEING SO LATE I HAD TO STOP HALFWAY BECAUSE OF EXAMS WARNINGS: Fem!Reader, period, maybe inaccuracies (refer to above)
🌸Let’s set the scene.
🌸Please pity him. It was in the middle of a cafe date that suddenly you stopped slurping your drink, freezing with a funny expression and your waffle piece halfway to your mouth. Obviously Tamaki’s voice peters out and away as he sinks into his jacket….oh crap, did he say something wrong? Maybe his breath smells bad?
🌸Then you ask to borrow his jacket. He gives it over, relieved, thinking you must’ve just been cold or something - wait, why are you tying it around your waist and heading to the toilet?
🌸When you finally come back out you awkwardly ask to cut the date short with much apologies, but you really wanted to head back and change….why? Oh right, your period kind of….leaked.
🌸”….”
🌸”Sure, sure! All’s to worry, not to fine!” Tamaki’s just happy it isn’t because of him - it’s your third date after a year of hopelessly pining and finally using up all the courage he had in this lifetime to confess and ask you out.
🌸Then it actually hits him.
🌸Silly boy’s even more panicked than you are, and YOU’RE The one on your period. It’s mostly because he wants to help you cover up and not have the date ruined but he has no idea how, not having much experience in this - come to think of it, Nejire never brought up her period with him and Mirio, so honestly he had no idea what he was doing.
🌸Hell, he’s suddenly forgotten how the menstruation cycle works - where did all those science lessons go??? Help???
🌸You have to assure him it’s not a big deal, his jacket is enough, could he help get a doggy bag for the waffles and get the drinks though?
🌸After he drops you off by your dorm Tamaki is immediately whipping out his phone and googling about periods, but it’s only explaining to him why and how it happens…wait, you’ll get mood swings, headaches, loss of appetite, lethargy and cramps? And girls go through this every month?
🌸That sounds worse than a villain attack; Tamaki’s respect for you probably broke the meter.
🌸He’s gonna be the supportive boyfriend! This is his chance to show you you didn’t make any mistake in choosing the quiet weirdo to be your partner! Tamaki nods, trying to hype himself up.
🌸Problem is…what is he supposed to do…
🌸Nejire and Mirio are more than happy to play wingmen once more, of course!
🌸All his plans collapse when you didn’t show up in class the next day however. Not only that, you’re pretty dry when he texts you and you’re - you’re ending the conversation first?!
🌸*>>sry im not feeling my best rn and dont wanna take it out on you*
🌸*>>ill talk to you ltr?*
🌸Tamaki ends up overthinking as usual, picking away at his lunch so obviously, leading to Mirio and Nejire’s interrogation and him spilling his guts. He wants to go check on you to see if you’re fine, but do YOU want him to go check on you?
🌸Nejire scoffs and tells him of course you’d want him to check on you! Girls could get clingy on their periods, of course you’d appreciate it if he came over…hey, you both could always do a stay at home date, nothing fancy! You’d surely be up for movies to cheer you up - Nejire would gladly lend Tamaki her account, no payment required.
🌸What’s he supposed to do? Nejire’s winking not so subtly as she slyly suggests cuddling under blankets with - oops, he looks like he’s about to faint now. No surprise, Tamaki nearly had a heart attack when you both first brushed fingers.
🌸Tamaki’s social anxiety having him debating between being the object everyone in the corridor must surely be gawking at or running somewhere far far away? No worries either, Mirio’s there to stop him from getting a concussion slamming his head against the wall.
🌸Mirio helpfully knocks very loudly on your door, calling out Tamaki’s name when your groggy voice drifts out. He gives his stunned, dark-haired friend a thumbs up and shoves a box of chocolates into his arms, mouthing “give this to her!” before taking off.
🌸Regrettably Tamaki’s first words to you were not…er…
🌸”You look terrible.”
🌸Immediately Tamaki backtracked, yelping about how it was probably the dim lighting that made him see things wonky, he’s SORRY, he didn’t mean it he was just surprised, please FORGIVE him, uh, uh, please have this box of chocolates as apology! 🌸Oh dear, he’s just too cutely flustered to be mad at, so you accept the box (thrown at you accidentally) with a hoarse laugh, self-consciously trying to smooth down your mussed hair and wrinkled sleeping clothes, asking what brought him here.
🌸Tamaki didn’t miss the way your arm was wrapped around your abdomen, or the way your eyes were a little screwed up from the pain and sleepiness, but he decided to go ahead and ask anyway if you were okay and why you didn’t show up to class today.
🌸Awkwardly you explain your cramps were really bad and after going to Recovery Girl she decided you were better off resting than doing anything physical for the day, admitting you probably shouldn’t have succumbed to the temptations of cold boba the other day.
🌸”Can….can I…can I stay with you? I brought a movie and uh, chocolate and I can bring blankets we could make a fort if you’re not too mad at me-”
🌸”Mad at you?” You tilted your head, surprised and confused. “Why would I be…oh. Is it about our earlier texts?”
🌸He nods, and you reach out to take his hand comfortingly. “Dummy, I know it’s probably a lot for you, but no matter how bad my mood swings are, I’d never get mad at you, alright?”
🌸Tamaki must have some real good karma from his past life to deserve an angel like you.
🌸”So…about that movie date?”
🌸The next day Mirio and Nejire eagerly await news of what had transpired; Tamaki hides his face when you grin brightly and say “I wouldn’t mind having cramps that bad again if he’ll come and cuddle me like that.”

Ayesha Liveblogs Hidden Agenda S1
I will not lie to you, I am watching this entirely for the fact it stars Tony from the Warp Effect
"I will get back my five minutes. When that time comes, I will let you know." Seems like an extreme overreaction to imply you want some sort of physical favour for missing a few minutes of studio time, but hey, I'm not a musician!
Much like Pat, I also feel like I've walked in the middle of something
LMAO @ the opening theme suggesting there's only one woman in this whole show, but I guess if I want women, I should choose a different genre
"As I've told you guys, I'll deal with the Nita situation my way." You know that post that's like 'I'm bisexual, by which I mean I'm physically terrified of dating men and emotionally terrified of dating women?' That's Zo
"Joke used to date Nita. Maybe he can help you out." Ah, I think we have arrived at the premise
I really want to know what's going on between these two because they are really acting like We Have A History:
Nita talking to a female classmate who is fully offscreen because she's the only woman on this show HAHAHA
"Why did you freak out like that?" said Pok, as if he had not jumped on a man holding a full cup of coffee
Not the debate club of the political science faculty!! This is far too relatable to my university experience LOL (also RUN Nita this is a terrible dating pool)
So far, mostly Joke's role has been to pop up out of nowhere to taunt Zo about being romantically inept, like a particularly Rude Flirtation Ghost
"I'm not sure, [Joke] might have a problem with me." If by 'problem' you mean a semi-hostile leetle crush, Zo, u right
Fellas, is it romantic to lean into ur crush and whisper in their ear that they have no spine?
[Taylor Swift voice] I think I've seen this film before:
I've said this before but: If your friends leave you alone at a bar while ur plastered, get new friends!!!
Awwww Joke taking the 5 minutes to clear up a misunderstanding with Zo is the first sincere thing he's done in this show
SCREAM why did you make one of the romantic leads punch the other? I know he's drunk but COME ON. WHO LIKES SOMEONE WHO PUNCHES THEM IN THE FACE FOR NO REAL REASON
At least he's apologizing right away???? What a bold first ep
Yes, I do know in Bad Buddy (also by GMMTV) they were starting with street brawls, but that's different, it was their faculities fighting, not like one guy doing it unsolicited
LMAO I can't believe the punch was a plot device to give Zo a reason to follow Joke around wanting forgiveness
"If you just leave it as it is, it won't heal quickly." It was ALSO a plot device for intricate rituals for touching the skin of other men
"Who said I don't like you?" "You repeatedly gave me harsh words during our freshman year." Ohhhhh so their history is that tweet with Joke not knowing how to deal with his crush and writing Zo a letter that says, 'get out of my school'
You know, I do enjoy the Share My Drink So We Can Start a Weird Dating Mentorship Pact. It's fun! It's like a blood ritual but for stupid bisexual guys. Or a marriage, take your pick
"I can't eat anything here, right?" Dkljdlkjdd is Zo just a very picky eater? Vietnamese food isn't even like a polar opposite to Thai food in my experience, it's still Southeast Asian cuisine?? Also I have definitely had fresh spring rolls from Thai restaurants LOL
"My peer mentor is the best!" For some reason, I did think Pok was older than Zo at first sight
The more time that Zo and Joke spend in the debate room, the more Zo's personality (a mild pain in the ass) makes sense
HHAHAHAHAH is Zo dream-sequencing about kissing him? I didn't think we'd get here so fast
Oh psych, it's Joke's dream sequence. That tracks, but my god, get it together Joke, this guy punched you like yesterday
"No, let's get something to eat." Joke said: If we stay in this debate room any longer I WILL kiss you, Zo, and then it'll be both of our problems
I like that they haven't done ANYTHING to talk about Nita all day. They're just hanging out hahahaha
"Why would you come [to my gig]? It's not the right place for practice." "You'll see." Colour me intrigued about Zo's plan
Joke alternating between singing scales and practicing debate intros is so me. I am so him
Joke's cousin laughing at him but cheering him on for debate while handing off the key card is the true family representation I need from these shows
Trin is also P'Dim from 2gether and Captain from the Warp Effect so this is really the first role I've seen Guy Sivakorn in that he's not at least a little nefarious
"This is your home turf. Trust me, you can do it, Joke." Awww I like that Zo is teaching debate techniques through a medium he feels more comfortable with, which is music performance
I like that Zo has also made himself designated driver! Always appreciate someone staunchly against drinking and driving
"I told you who my crush was." "You told me voluntarily. I didn't ask," said Joke, like he didn't eavesdrop on Zo in a bus and then accost him to confirm what he heard
"Why would you want to join this club? I don't get it at all." "I'll explain later." Will you Joke? Because every explanation for this situation makes you sound a little crazy. 1) I am helping a guy to date you, Nita, so I need to be in this club to make that work or, more honestly 2) I like a guy in this club, but he wants to date you, so I'm in this club to spend time with him, while hoping that I don't help him enough to date you
A relationship with a hidden agenda is such a broad topic for someone's first debate. Talk about school uniforms, or fracking, or a legitimate social issue. Also also also. Do they not have a structure for this debate? Where are the themes, the motions, the timed speeches. Even if Thai debate is different from the styles I know, there should still be a structure. Why they just rebutting ceaselessly back and forth? All this for a title reference. Which debate nerd signed off on this!!
"To me, a hidden agenda is a secret." You have to decide the definitions at the top of the debate, or else you can't have one!! Writers team, I'm sending you a passionate telegram
It is fun how Joke is always standing like, 6 inches from Zo's face at every opportunity and you can see Zo getting progressively more distracted each time
The English dialogue and PowerPoint caught me off guard:
Honestly, as bananas as this is, I feel like Joke really does have the opportunity to Build-A-Boyfriend here, which does tickle me
Zo every time Joke stands too close: Not now, gay thoughts!
"But if you never try new things, how will you know what suits you?" Like dating men, said Joke, in the subtext
I don't actually like Zo's white jacket, but I appreciate that all of these outings are giving him an opportunity for both new things and confidence-building
"Well, look at him. We might need an exorcism. He must be possessed." Pat absolutely losing it because his friend showed up slightly hotter than he was the day before:
"Your task is to plan a mock date with Nita. I'll be there to fine tune the details." "Wait a minute. So you're telIing me you'd play Nita, and I'd be... dating you." Oh, I love a mock date
Zo crashing his bike because he's too busy making eyes at Joke LMAOOOO
I LOVE the pottery painting date and Zo giggling because he tried to clean paint off Joke's face but he made it worse
If a man tried to order for me on a date, immediate red flag LOL
"Stay true to who you are on your first date." Every bit of advice that Joke gives is genuinely helpful
"Would you like to go on a date with me?" [Joke freezes and then leaves immediately] Truly a congratulations, you played yourself moment
Two dudes, standing in a library, 6 inches apart bc they are bi:
Reading someone your favourite book while sitting together in the library stacks IS emotionally intimate. Good job, Zo!
We interrupt this program to say: Hee hee
Zo, beelining for the bathroom: Something LGBT just happened to meeeeee
It only took Zo three episodes to realize that dating someone might lead to you being attracted to them, good for him!
Debate club members using school activities to trick people into a date really brings back some war flashbacks for me
"The portrayal of women is quite antiquated. If I were in Clytie's place, I wouldn't just wait. If someone doesn't want to be with you, they simply don't. The sun will never look at you. Isn't it better to look for someone who truly values you?" I love Nita
"First is passion. Second is intimacy. And third is commitment." I do enjoy a Romantic Realization montage
Zo said: The best way to deal with my newfound romantic feelings is to run away to Chiang Khan
Joke said: Great! I'll come with you. To which Zo said: That's not what I meant!!! U r not helping the crush crisis
LOL when they subtitled them bowing to the monk with "Vulnerable" did they mean "Venerable"?
I was wondering if Nu was a Thai honourific but upon googling it is a diminutive meaning "mouse" or, contextually somewhat like being someone you just met calling you baby
"When a person is sad, he needs some alone time." "Have you tried being someone else's company? It might be better than being on yotur own." Touché, Joke
I did not expect Jeng and Pok to already be dating. Points for surprise!
Awwwww Pok looks v nervous, is he worried about Zo finding out that he'd dating a man? Don't worry Pok, he's also kinda dating a man, in a very convoluted way
If there's one thing Joke will do, it is button not even HALF of his shirt. Tiddies out always. Respect
"But Pok and I are close. He's my peer mentee. Finding out like this feels off. Am I not trustworthy?" I really did think that Zo was stankfacing Pok for just crashing the date-cation, and not because he was concerned about not having known Pok was gay. Also babygirl, with greatest affection, it really isn't your business why or when someone comes out to you, or doesn't
"I just don't want to make anyone uncomfortable." Awww Zo
"Stop giving each other doe eyes." Zo and Joke have been CAUGHT and CALLED OUT hahaha
I am also Team Glass Floors Are Scary. I feel closer to Joke with every passing minute
Zo laughing while still helping Joke through his fear is my love language:
"The first photo Pok and I took together is in that wallet." Maybe I'm just from the age of digital cameras, but I feel like that is not what would stress me out about losing my wallet LOL
Joke trying to recreate the sunset for Zo. SWEET BOY
"When I look at you, you make people around you happy. They smile, and at ease. You bring a warm and comforting vibe with you." Joke comparing Zo to the sun!!!!! ROMANCE
"Aren't we all the protagonists of our own shows?" How meta
The tinkling of bells while Zo eats grilled rice for no reason. Beautiful sound editing
I love these guys talking to their friends about their concerns, both in Joke pointing out to Jeng that just because Pok is willing to be closeted for now, doesn't means he feels good about it, and Zo establishing that Pok doesn't need to talk about anything before he's ready, but Zo is there to help
"From your perspective, what kind of person am I?" Joke said: Do you like me? Check ☒ yes or ☐ no
"You should let yourself express your feelings sometimes." This is both good advice and a possible romantic segue, Joke can multi-task
"Do you think... if your heart races whenever you're around someone, does that mean you have feelings for that person?" Zo said: Do I like you? Check ☒ yes or ☐ no
Zo said: Actually, never mind, the answer is yes:
I really look forward to Zo trying to explain himself after this
"I wanted to know what you were doing, but you didn't answer me." Based on how this bus ride is going, I feel like they did not have a conversation about the kiss
"I'm sorry. But I think we should keep things the same between us." Zo said: I will NOT be elaborating on our kiss at this time xoxo, goodbye!
Replying, "Mom, I got a lot of snacks?" to "Did you go there alone?" is a MUCH more suspicious answer than saying you went with a friend (who you're kissing and dating and having feelings for, but I digress)
"Should I put water on it?" "No, that'll fill the room with smoke!" GHKJHGKJHGG Joke trying to help with the burning food but not having a clue what to do. Mood
WikiHow Article: What Do When Your Crush and Close Friend That You Kissed and Are Now Avoiding Like the Plague Shows Up in Your Dorm Room Wearing Matching Aprons with Your Mom
"If it's too hot, take it slow. Try these dishes, they aren't spicy." Oh how the food suggestions turntables
"I wasn't exaggerating. I genuinely think you're exceptional." Get you a man who hypes you up like Joke
Fellas, is it gay to hold hands and gaze deeply into your homie's eyes while doing the dishes?
"I don't know how I feel about you. And there's this whole thing with Nita. I don't want to say things that I might regret later. Can you give me a bit of time to figure it out?" COMMUNICATION
Joke karaokeing out his romantic woes. Me too, buddy
"Knowing how you feel might help him make a decision." Joke said: How dare you make an excellent point, Jeng
"When did you realize that you were into Jeng?" Awww, Zo is trying to sort out his feelings
One (1) kiss with Joke cured Zo of all his nervousness around Nita
Joke showing the debate club his goofy side just to make Zo smile
"I'm looking." "Where? You're only looking at my face." Truly these two sitting beside each other in debate club is a big hazard to their focus
"I want to love the toad. Does the toad love me?" Crazy lead-in to telling you have feelings for someone by comparing them to a frog. I am in love with Joke
It makes me happy how much Zo is a true debate nerd
"The topic for today is school uniforms: Pro or con?" I told you it was a classic!
"I felt bad about kissing you, avoiding you, and being the idiot I've been. Despite all that, you still helped me." Zo says: Stop being nice to me or I WILL fall in love with you
UNBELIEVABLE THAT ZO IS STILL ASKING JOKE IF HE (ZO) LIKES HIM (JOKE)
"I like you, Zo. I'll make you see that I really like you. I want to make you see that you like me too. Let me win you over." Roooomance
The most unrealistic thing that's happened in this series thus far is them pretending that this pillow looks at ALL like a sunflower. Could the props department not have at least found some felt and tried their best?
"I'm still in shock," said Zo, about Joke trying to win him over, as if he had not been the one who kissed Joke first bkjgjhgkjhg
"You guys don't seem all that surprised, especially you." Has Pat been pulling some shenanigans this whole time? He was the one who kept saying Zo should ask Joke for help
"What did you do as a kid?" "I stayed home, did homework, and went to tutoring classes." Nerd ❤️
Zo said: You must beat me at ten arcade games to earn emotional honesty on this date
And Joke replied: Let's do it baby, I love winning AND talking about our feelings
"Why are you forcing stuff on Zo? If he doesn't want to eat it, drop it." Honestly this is also how I'd react if someone was trying to make my friend eat food they didn't ask for, Kot. There's a fine line between expanding your horizons and ignoring someone's preferences
"Do you think it's right to pick a fight with Kot like that?" [Zo as the Spice Girls voice] If you wanna be my lover, you gotta get with my friends
"You can do what you want, but respect boundaries. As for the food, I know you meant well. You wanted me to try something new. But you need to understand that I don't like it. People don't like things they don't like." I'm glad Zo is establishing boundaries. We love a healthy heart-to-heart
"I know that you're in a bad mood. You're not ready to listen. Take some time to cool down. I believe you'll get what I'm trying to say." I just love the entire vibe of this conversation. The confidence, clarity, empathy, honesty. Go Zo!!!!
Ohhhhh, was Joke never dating Nita at all??? Just protecting her from this weirdo who leaves her haunting sticky notes
"After that, rumours about Nita and me started. I didn't bother clearing them." You know, now that I think about it, Joke never did say he dated Nita LOLLLLL
"You didn't really want Nita." Bold take, Joke, how are you gonna mansplain Zo's feelings
"I had feelings for you." HAHA Zo confessing to Nita in past tense
"Thank you for the feelings you had for me, even if they were just admiration." KJHGKJGH Zo said: Joke was right, I am not in love with you, you are simply the Zendaya of this school
God, this metaphor of Zo being the sun and Joke being a sunflower is getting to me. I LOVE SUNFLOWERS
"I'd be so lost without you," said Zo, after Joke simply handed him a glass of water HAHAHAH
"Just be yourself. Being you is more than enough." STOP THEY'RE SO CUTE!!!!!!!!!!!!! You win this round, drunk punch debate show
Oh I do love their little hand holds. And Zo being the one to reach out:
"Yes, I am [single]. I can give you my Line ID." Jeng, how is Joke, who is not even officially dating Zo yet, better at turning people down than you, who has been with your boyfriend for like a year? Bananas behaviour
This show is capturing the very real sentiment of visiting a man's apartment and going, "Damn, you live like this?"
Zo taking food from Joke's chopsticks instead of getting his own because he wants to flirt. Hee hee
Lmao @ Zo looking surprised at Joke asking him how he feels about him as if that's not the natural progression from Zo saying he doesn't have feelings for Nita
Zo every time things become a little too romantic: I gotta go to the bathroom
It's fun that they have already slept in the same bed without even it being a big thing before but this time is different because they are Romantically Involved
"Why did you choose this place for our date?" Hee hee amusement park date. First official date!!
Joke saying he's not scared of the amusement park when he is in fact, very scared and motion sick, is very funny
I'm surprised it's taken this long to get to an Obviously Sponsored Segment. They lasted seven episodes!:
"I think... I think I like you." Awwwwww so Zo has liked guys before, it's just didn't work out with this guy Puen
Being dumped on a moving merry-go-round by a guy who was leading you on because Puen "just thought it'd be fun" is BRUTAL. No wonder Zo asks Joke if he's serious about them 14 times a day
"Maybe that's why I'm afraid to confess my feelings to anyone." True, this actually does add some context to Zo's interactions with both Nita and Joke
"You're just like my grandma," said Joke, which is both a delightful implication his grandmother also laughs at him for being a scaredy cat and a wild thing to say to your crush
They said: Fear not, if you are missing the kissing, we will offer you some JengPok kisses
Bold choice for them to choose to end this date with an introduction to Joke's grandma, but I suppose she was part of theme of the day
"Why is he wearing your shirt? Did you spend the night together?" Also a bold choice for in front of grandma
"I'll come over tomorrow for round two. I'm not backing down that easy." Zo said: Meet me in the ring, Joke's Grandma, I WILL make you love me
"Your partner has to be a fighter. It wouldn't last otherwise." Grandma said: I bully your future boyfriend as a litmus test for his strength of character. He passed!
"You need to step up your game, Joke. Because I'm kind of fond of this one." HAHAHA Grandma dunking on Joke for them not being together yet
Also, all of Grandma's outfits are INCREDIBLE
I repeat, if there's one thing that Joke will do, it's take his tits out at the first opportunity:
Awwww Zo helping Joke to "recharge his battery" by giving him a tighter hug
Fjkfhkjfhkfjh what's going on with Zo, passing out in his living room and getting nauseous over chicken? I mean, relatable, but what's up. Overworking or is he coming down with something specific?
Update from 1 minute later: Overworking, apparently
It's fun that we've progressed from pottery painting to making your own pottery and then painting it. It's symbolic. Also Zo putting a sunflower on his cup!!
"Honestly, I felt something for you too." Coffee Shop Carthasis ft. Puen the Ex-Situationship, perhaps?
"Are you planning any late-night funny business?" I think this Joke's way of saying, 'Please kiss me again'
Also I love that they just hold hands as they walk around now
"Thank you for coming into my life. Thank you for trying to win me over. No, I should say, thank you for being my boyfriend." AYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
HAHAHA Zo closing the door only to yank him in for a quick make-out and shove him back out again:
I feel like the anonymous breathy phone calls to Joke have to be the same guy who keeps sending Nita haunting sticky notes. He's an equal opportunity harrasser, I guess
Them hanging out in bed just to cuddle. I looooooove
[Pat as Joke] "Darling I, miss you." [Kot as Zo] "I do not want to go to class, Joke. I hate being away from you." Hahahaha Zo's friends pretending not to look at Joke and Zo while they flirt but then immediately reenacting their flirting as soon as Zo sits down. 10/10 friendship
Something I haven't really talked about in the past 8 eps but that has consistently been happening is that every time Zo is thinking very hard he kind of stares into space with his mouth slightly open like :o It is very awkward and endearing
NOT Zo making class friends with Poom the Stalker
Zo play-biting Joke's hands while he has his arm around him is also one of my love languages
Convenient of Poom to send an incredibly threatening message confirming that he was stalking Nita, Zo, and Joke at the exact time he would be at Zo's apartment
I know it's necessary to resolve the storyline but I would like them to get rid of Poom ASAP
Poom smashing their special date mugs >:( He is not only a gross, harassing stalker, but also just a run-of-the-mill douchebag
I'm glad Nita gets to see Poom (James) get his ass beat by Joke and then taken away in a police car
"Until you're ready, I can wait." [Zo immediately kisses him] Zo said: I've thought about it for ten seconds, and it turns out I'm ready now!
"How can a couple have a secret relationship that goes on and on?" Nine episodes in, Pok and Jeng are finally dealing with the festering romantic resentment of Jeng being so closeted he is actively leading on women
"Although you don't plan on dating her, you can't just go around acting like you're single." A really reasonable point, Joke
"I see a knot between your eyebrows." "You can be a masseuse." Meanwhile, Joke and Zo are in their sappy couple era, good for them:
Not Pat and Joke being caught shenanigan-ing about Zo. Eep!!!
I can understand why Zo is upset. If you found out that the moments that felt organic and meaningful to your relationship (impromptu trip to Chiang Khan, even Zo coming to Joke for help, all ochestrated via secret texts) were actually planned with one of your friends and your partner scheming to get you together, that would really make you take a pause and reevaluate
"You and I still have things to discuss." "Discuss what? Why am I out of the loop?" Kot being the only one who isn't In Trouble with Zo LOL
"How should I be feeling? My best friend pimping me out to you!" That's a rough but fair way to phrase it, Zo
I am also 100% on Zo's side here, he has, at best, been told many lies of omission, and at worst, had his feelings and boundaries disrespected by his loved ones, and he's given Joke so many opportunities to tell him. Joke minimizing is not helping, and it's kind of Zo to not immediately dump his ass
"During the debate tournament, you may get a topic that doesn't align with your beliefs." That's true, it's like 50-50 at any given time LOL
Also: If I were watching these debate interactions you best believe me and the besties are debriefing about the debationships
"Grilled Rice, tell me, what should I do?' Props to Joong for keeping a straight face
Yeah, Pat and Joke, Zo is mad at you for lying, but luring him into a mascot flash mob in his classroom with another lie with fix it
Also I didn't mention it but if for some reason you've gotten this far without seeing the show, Pat fell down the stairs after Zo caught him in the lie, that's why the furthest dog is on crutches:
"Zo is mad because you lied to him. But your apology is another lie? Enough already." THANK YOU KOT
I'm not even sure that at any point Joke has said, "I'm sorry," so my opinion is that he should, in this order, say: 1) I'm sorry for lying to you. It hurt you, I realize that now. It wasn't fair to you. 2) If you can, please tell me more so we can make sure all your concerns are heard. 3) What, if anything, can I do to start rebuilding trust? What do you need from me? Space, access to my messages, an explanation of how me and Pat know each other
"I know you understand me." "I know. I've been so understanding. Even though I'm not fine with it, I try to be." I actually like the B couple conflict much more than the main couple conflict, at least Pok and Jeng both have legitimate sides
"I was blind to how my selfishness hurt you. I need you in my life. I can't live without you. You are my everything. I promise I'll make this right. I will fix this for you. I'm sorry." Now THAT is an apology. 1) Say you're sorry 2) Acknowledge and address the concerns being raised and 3) Change your behaviour!
Jeng coming out to the football club to assure Pok he's serious about them. ❣️
"I was just helping Joke get close to you. When you started dating, I did nothing to influence either of you. But it was wrong to keep it from you, to go behind you back. I was supposed to be a friend you can trust. I'm really sorry, Zo." Pat also knows how to give an apology. 2 down, 1 to go!
"I'm really sorry. I've done you wrong all this time, but I never apologized. You don't have to forgive me for this. But I promise I won't lie to you or hide anything from you again. You may not believe me now, but I'll prove it to you. FINALLYYYYYY JOKE. IT TOOK YOU SO MANY TRIES
Gjkljgkgjlgk Zo gently informing him, 'Yeah stupid, I was waiting!'
"Absolutely no lip contact for a month." HAHAHA. Good for Zo. Also I give them a week
If we count play-kissing, it took them like 50 seconds
I appreciate whoever captioned ep 10, because not only did they caption the dialectical differences or accents from where Zo is from versus Bangkok, they also made sure those captions sit higher on the screen than the default English caption height, so you can see both without moving it. GOOD JOB!
"Zo, where are you? Why aren't you here at my house?" Hahaha Zo has earned his place in Joke's Grandma's Favourites (Joke is not included)
"You'll need fuel for an intensive tutoring session tonight." "Maybe ease up a touch?" Can confirm, this is a relatable Asian parent-child dynamic
"By the way, I've got a debate topic in mind for tonight. Childhood trauma from parental conflicts results in troubled adults." Wow, a little on the nose, but true, Mrs. Zo's Mum
None of these guys follow any structure when it comes to debate. Normally, you get a topic, you take a few minutes to prep your arguments, THEN you start arguing. You don't just automatically keep rebutting back and forth. How can Zo be expected to speak to his arguments after like less than 10 seconds of thought? Unreasonable!
"I can play [football] anywhere. It doesn't have to be that club." Maybe Jeng should go to Sarawat and Tine's school, where more than half of any given sports team is at least somewhat gay
Pok crying because he realizes being out makes Jeng's life a lot harder :'(
"One day you'll find that love will make the impossible possible. This too shall pass. It will." I'm glad Zo has a good relationship with his dad
It's a good thing that Zo likes Joke so much, or showing up out of the blue at his house could've gone over a lot more poorly
"Your parents seem chill." Famous last words, Joke, I tell ya
Also, I do appreciate how evident it is that Zo DOES want Joke here
If there's a trope I will never get tired of, it's sneaky hook-ups in your childhood home as adults. In practice, maybe a lil stressful. In fiction, VERY FUN
"Your mom's pretty intense, huh?" [Tonelessly] "Yeah, but I'm used to it." Oh, Zo, I know the voice of childhood trauma when I hear it
The fact that everything with Puen also made Zo's relationship with his mum worse. No wonder he plays things so close to the chest
"I get it completely. Your family and mine are not so different." That explains why Joke spends all of his time at his grandma's and not with his parents
"I've got your back from now on." Sometimes that's all you need. Empathy and back-up
"Happy birthday!" "You knew?" He went to see Zo because it was his birthday!! They are sooooooooooo
Also, Zo said: The kissing embargo does not count on birthdays
Woo for Zo getting debate club presidency for this year!!!
"What did he do that made you hate him?" "He's close with Trin!" Finally the weird tension between Former Debate Club President Wave and Bar Owner Trin is being addressed
"But we're pals! You can't have feelings for me." I know this is supposed to be an emotionally intense conversation but it reads SO funny in English:
Unbelievable!! You're telling me that Wave is made because HE started throwing punches in the dorms and got banned from debate tournament
"He cost me the competition!" "That's on you. You wouldn't have missed out if you hadn't thrown that punch." You tell him, Zo!
"Who said you could smooch my hand?" [Zo does a finger gun] "Took the liberty myself." Bi culture khgkjgh
Joke saying, "Then let's ramp up our international relations, shall we?" as a segue for sex is incredible. This series may not be for everyone, but it is for meeeeeeeeee
Not Joke's family trauma revealed as being left on read in the group chat
I do appreciate at the debate tournament they actually are (finally) following a motion, prep time and speech structure
Also. It's clear whoever wrote this scene has NEVER competed in a debate tournament because they are not talking fast enough or writing anything down
"Can you say in all honesty that your effort here is not a product of hard work?" Not to jump on Nita's argument specifically but this making a point about the individuals you're debating rather than their arguments is ad hominem fallacy and would not score well at a debate tournament. In this essay, I will—
It's SOOOO funny that they made Zo loving the sound of soda tabs a genuine characteristic so they could better integrate sponsors. I miss the Bad Buddy soda sponge bath
YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH POLI SCI DEBATE CLUB!!!
Good for Nita for taking home the Finland prize. Regardless of substance, it was very well-delivered!
[Park, about Nita] "Look at our shining star! So gifted." [Zo nodding, looking at Nita] I think Zo is doing a very good job of not showing how much not getting the Best Speaker/study abroad scholarship has hurt his feelings
"You don't always have to put on a brave face, you know?" said Joke, to which Zo probably thought, 'You don't understand, putting on a brave face is all I have done my whole life, I don't know how to turn it off!'
It's funny that Park is a credited character in the intros but the only memorable dialogue he's had up until Episode 11 is asking Zo to dress up as a frog to surprise Nita
It makes a lot more sense now that I know it's Nita's birthday and they weren't just frog-surprising her for winning best speaker LOL
I do love the nonverbal communication of Joke raising his eyebrows like, 'You okay?' and Zo smiling and fixing his hair like 'No sweat'
"Saijai, Joke isn't here. Shall I call him?" "That's fine. He'll turn up." LMAO no one in this show tells ANYONE that they're coming. Zo's mum didn't when she visited Zo in Bangkok, Zo didn't when he went home, Joke didn't when he visited Zo at home, Joke's family hasn't when they're visiting him. WHY DOES NO ONE THINK THEY SHOULD SAY THEY'RE GONNA VISIT
"You can tell me." [Zo sighs, hesitating.] "Alright, if you're not ready to tell me, wait until you are, okay? Do what makes you feel good." This is good relationship communication
"My mom's never said she's proud of me. Not even once." Oh, Zo. Heartbreaking. Also same maybe? I don't know fhkjfhkjf
I really do think they are both handling this situation as well as possible
"Zo, what brought you here?" said Zo's mum, like his dad wasn't lying in a hospital bed right front of him
"Was it a kidney stone?" "Yes, indeed. But surgery these days is minimally invasive. They just insert a tool. It doesn't hurt much. An ingrown nail hurts even more." First of all. As a person who has had 'miminally invasive surgery' YOUR BODY DOES STILL HURT AFTERWARDS. Secondly, the thing that precipitates the surgery is usually a very painful medical emergency!!!!! That is why you go to the hospital. I haven't had a kidney stone but I know they can cause a ton of pain!!!! Thirdly, it's not YOUR body, Zo's mum, so shut up about it. This is like, incredibly rude dialogue. Villain behaviour. Meet me in the Denny's parking lot LOL
"Buzz the doc if it hurts, okay? Don't think you'll disturb him. Don't just hold it in." At least she is NOW acknowledging Zo's dad could be in pain. But good grief
"Zo, you know your dad was in pain for a long time. But he wouldn't tell me, wouldn't see the doctor." Why are so many dads this way jkhfkhf. But also, why then, were you dunking on him for being worried, Zo's mum!!!
I do actually understand why Zo's mum did not tell him mid-debate that his dad was in surgery. Would've been rough
Joke subtly telling Zo's mum he needs support without betraying Zo's confidence. Love that!
"You did such a great job today. You nailed your speech. I'm so proud of you." Awwwww, good for Zo and his mum
Fjfhjfkhf Joke missing out on his family trying to celebrate him because he's been too busy with his friends and supporting his boyfriend. How many of these problems would've been solved if they'd texted beforehand
"Joke, I need some alone time tonight. Just to process how I feel." We love a boyfriend who expresses his needs
Joke making faces to his BF to say goodbye and then continuing to make faces to himself for no reason is so me. Joke continues his streak of Niche Relatability
I do wish that Joke got to celebrate with his family, he needs family time too!
"Zo, your dad's got sepsis. He's in the ICU." THIS IS WHY I WAS SO MAD WHEN SHE WAS MINIMIZING THE EFFECTS OF SURGERY. THEY ARE SO SERIOUS!
Poor Zo and his mum though, this is the worst feeling
"You can count on me to be here for you in times like these. Remember, I'm your sunshine." Ohhhh I like that they've switched up the metaphor, they are both suns
In all this, I did forget about the random bunny animation voice-over that they started this show with LOL
What class is that voice-over even for? An elective?? It's been going on for months. They never explain!
"This 'under the weather' thing seems to hit you every year on this day." Is Joke's dad the emotional equivalent of Zo's mum, in that he is prone to bringing bone arsenic to his child whenever possible?
Dhkjhgkjghgkj Joke walking around his huge, beautiful house looking for his parents does give Poor Little Rich Boy
Also. They've not put Joke in a super reasonable position in either of these situations. Of course Joke's parents would be busy if they're planning Bachang's (I assume Joke's brother's) graduation, which is time-sensitive, as opposed to a college acceptance, which is often unpredictable and happens months ahead of time. Of course Zo may be a more absent partner if his dad is in the hospital with sepsis. Joke isn't making it their problem or anything, but it is a little bit lacking perspective to be upset that Other People Have Stuff Going On When You Want Them Around
"I think what you're feeling isn't physical, but mental." At least Jeng is here to help Joke talk it out
"Am I one of the things bothering you?" Shockingly emotionally perceptive of Zo's mum
"I feel like all that I've done means nothing." "Zo, you've got it all wrong. I've never set any expectations for you to follow." Zo's mum, you should read a wikipedia article on gaslighting, because you have done it multiple times, on screen
"I'm sorry for making you feel this way." That's a better response
"You're always enough. Winning that scholarship or not, success or failure, you're still you at the end, and you matter. Remember, you're the sun, always shining brightly on your own." "I'm sorry. But I need to be with my parents." It's funny, because Zo and Joke didn't actually do anything romantic in this hospital hallway, but I think this particular argument is the most emotionally intimate thing they could do while his mum was eavesdropping without them knowing kgjhgkjhghgj. Like, they didn't say anything about dating, but it screamed couple
She's gotta know they're dating now, right? She's gotta!
"What's going on between you and Joke?" That didn't take long. Also I love her little smile after she asks
"You might end up pushing Joke away, like you did to me." I take back my love, see u back in the parking lot, Zo's mum
"Something precious... Joke!" I'm glad Zo does see the value in his relationship. Also, now they ARE romancing in the hallway
"It's great... seeing you get your act together, finally." Joke's dad IS the same vibes as Zo's mum. Coming in hot with a backhanded compliment
"I stopped by your apartment and ran into Jeng. He said you might need a friend. So I'm here." Zo said: Uno reverse on the boyfriend drop-in family support visit. No one on this show knows how to use a phone 💖
"You don't need to cover for him. I know he's up to no good." What an insane thing to say to your son's friend upon first meeting him. He is monologuing on Joke's flaws. Joke's dad SUCKS.
"[Joke] may not be the golden boy you pictured, but to me, he's pretty much perfect." Zo said: You have actually chosen the extremely wrong audience, as I am President of the Joke Fan Club, and will reverse monologue on Joke's virtues
Get you a boyfriend who will therapize your dad at the dinner table
Also, do these wider shots suggest Joke has TWO brothers, neither of who have named as his brothers LMAO. This show really only utilizes its cast for drama
Zo and Joke really said to each other: Give me ten seconds, I will fix your relationship with your mean parent:
"If you've ever felt I didn't care for you, you're wrong. I love you just like your brothers." Oh, so they are his brothers!
The most realistic part of this show is all of the parents going, 'Actually, the emotional problems in our relationship are the fault of your own misconceptions.' 10/10, terrible and true parenting. Also Dad revealing it was middle child trauma all along LOL
"I've always been proud of you, son. Without fail, any given time. I'm so happy that you're my kid." Again, refer to what you JUST did moments ago, Joke's dad. But, better, I guess
"I'm sorry I pulled away for a bit. I was lost. I didn't know where to turn or what I wanted." I'm glad that Zo is acknowledging it. These two are all about talking through their feelings
"I love you, Joke." I like that Zo is initiating this 💞 They make lots of effort to balance the support and love
"I've never been shy about us, and I'm no longer scared." I really love Jeng and Pok's relationship arc
Jeng kissing Pok outside the party to show how much he means it and loves him!!
"But let's be honest, it's not the outfit that makes me look this good, it's all in the face." Hahaha Joke has never been lacking in self-confidence but I like how him voicing it shows he's back in a good emotional place
"But, you know, I was in a weird place back then. It's all good now." Me about myself every minute that's not the current one
"And honestly, you totally deserved it." We love a good sport!
Not them fully pausing the montage of their friends achieving their goals (beating video games, passing exams, rejoining football, going to Finland) to resolve the Wave and Trin conflict
"Kiss me, this time with the certainty we have in each other now." Oooh we love a full-circle post-uni kiss in Chiang Khan
"Well, my dream is a lot simpler now. Just being by your side like this, forever." ZOOOOO. STOP THAT'S SO SWEET 🥺💘
Final thoughts on this show: I would say the plot is somewhat meandering because it doesn't feel like it has one particular story to tell until the last few eps, and the use of their cast of characters could've been better, because I felt like people would only pop up to drop in a plot point. BUT I do find the show incredibly endearing!! I love the debate themes, I love how Zo is really focused on school, I love the silly little dating lessons. I think they do a particularly good job of building upon Zo slowly to help you understand who he is and why. I also liked the way they navigated the friends to lovers arc, though I could've done without the initial drunk punch or all the scheming. I don't feel like it added much, and I do think it took away from the relationship. I get that it's called, 'Hidden Agenda' but the mere fact that Joke liked Zo from the start fulfills that. The other part is that they laid some groundwork on why exactly their relationship was so tense in the beginning with flashbacks about the Freshy contest, but didn't really deliver on it beyond Joke appreciating that Zo asked how he felt. It felt like they didn't make much effort to reconcile the tone change or develop Joke's backstory in general. In any case, they had good chemistry, really good communication, a fun secondary couple, some really realistic parent dynamics and I liked it enough that I'm willing to hand-wave away its perceived flaws. A pretty solid mid-tier romance!

Oh shoot, I just realized that Kilmeny's climactic moment isn't actually in the next chapter. In my defense, her dialog is centered and bolded and several font sizes larger than the rest of the text, so it really looked like a chapter heading. Also narratively I was absolutely expecting it to be a new chapter.
Anyway, so Kilmeny doesn't just speak, she yells! And it is clearly understandable and complete sentences! I don't think this is how that works, but I will admit that I know nothing about adults who have had medical conditions that prevent them from speaking learning to talk. Maybe you are able to form words without issue if you grew up hearing and understanding the language. I do feel like at minimum she's going to have kind of an unusual accent. But again, this is a book where a woman is mute because her mother sinned against her own father, so I'm not sure it's terribly science based, you know?
So Kilmeny yells to warn Eric and Eric doesn't realize who yelled but looks behind him on instinct and sees Neil, who did see Kilmeny speak. Neil drops his axe in horror and runs away -- we assume that he knows that everything is lost for him now.
But we ignore him for a hug, because Kilmeny can speak now! End of chapter for real this time, and frankly not as good of one. Come on Maud, give me one cliffhanger!
Moving on to chapter 18 for real. Eric and Kilmeny run to tell the Gordons about the miracle that has happened. Only Eric hastens to assure us that it is not at all a miracle, David Baker had said such a thing might happen, it is all very scientific and explainable. Eric Marshall is going to move to fairland and run a steam train across it.
Thomas Gordon is having none of it though. It is a miracle and he's going to appreciate it as one. I wish we had gotten more of him -- he's one of the few characters who takes none of Eric's nonsense. Which I guess is why he doesn't get to talk on page much.
She spoke naturally and easily. The only difficulty which she seemed to experience was in the proper modulation of her voice. Occasionally she pitched it too high—again, too low. But it was evident that she would soon acquire perfect control of it. It was a beautiful voice—very clear and soft and musical.
Confirmation that Kilmeny does not have a noticeable accent. Sure. Fine. I'm with Thomas Gordon -- this makes much more sense if it's just magic.
Thomas asks what to do about Neil, and Eric, because he is a benevolent colonizer, says they must forgive him. Because Neil isn't an adult, who can be held accountable for his choices, he's half boy half wild animal and as such it's not his fault that he reacted accordingly to heartbreak. (I will note that I am paraphrasing here -- they don't quite say it like that. But it's the vibe.)
“That is true, Master, but it does not alter the terrible fact that the boy had murder in his heart,—that he would have killed you. An over-ruling Providence has saved him from the actual commission of the crime and brought good out of evil; but he is guilty in thought and purpose. And we have cared for him and instructed him as our own—with all his faults we have loved him! It is a hard thing, and I do not see what we are to do. We cannot act as if nothing had happened. We can never trust him again.”
I am going to strongly dispute the proclamation that the Gordons loved Neil. The only time they talk about him is to say bad things about him. Only Kilmeny ever had anything good to say. And, I was thinking back, and there is zero mention of him in any of the stories about Margaret's return and Kilmeny's childhood. Neil would have been four years old when Margaret came home after her marriage. A four year old child is going to be deeply impacted by the heightened emotions and tension in that house during those months of Margaret's silence. I think LMM just forgot about him, but what it conveys is that the Gordons forgot about him, or didn't care enough to mention him.
Neil was like their weird charity case kid that their dad insisted they keep. He doesn't seem to have been considered part of the family at any point except, again, by Kilmeny.
Conveniently, Neil has solved their problems by leaving town of his own initiative. Probably the smartest decision he has made all book, not going to lie. Eric learns this from Robert Williamson, who wants to know what on Earth has happened over at the Gordons. Eric tells him part of the truth -- that Neil scared Kilmeny greatly and in the process she gained her voice. And then Eric goes off to bed and Robert leaves us with this delightful line:
“Well, I never heard anything like this in all my born days—never—never. Timothy, did YOU ever hear the like? Them Gordons are an unaccountable lot and no mistake. They couldn’t act like other people if they tried. I must wake mother up and tell her about this, or I’ll never be able to sleep.”

sixteen — FTS + mostly written
As you looked at your phone in shock in the middle of your science class, Leeseo looked over you shoulder. “ What’s going on your face looked wider than usually “. She said with a giggle as your body unfroze as you began to tell her what happened.
“ Xiaoting says Chaewon and Sakura want to say sorry and everyone agreed to come.. so she wants to know if you and me want to go “. Leeseo’s smile dropped. She really didn’t want to go. After everything those three girls did to her she really didn’t want to go at all. But because she be you would go and she didn’t want you to suffer alone she said.
“ I’ll go with you.. I need to get out anyways maybe after we can get a bite to eat! “. Leeseo said as she tried to smile as you beamed at her happy you wouldn’t have to go through this horrid experience alone.
“ Thanks Leeseo it really means a lot to me “. You said still being at the girl next to you.
Oh how you didn’t know the things she would do for you..
-
Did Leeseo really like you enough to be doing this? She really didn’t know because all she could think about was your smile then when, she said yes to this horrible event and now as you walked hands tangled together with the girl.
Anything for you.. right?
As you both approached the front you saw Rei, Gaeul, Liz, Wonyoung, Yujin and Xiaoting and the two perpetrators at the front of the school. Where the last big confrontation occurred not too long a go.
“ I’m glad you came “. Xiaoting said as she grabbed your arm to bring you closer to Chaewon and Sakura.
Leeseo’s face didn’t falter thought because you tugged her along with you.
“ Chaewon and Sakura have already said sorry to everyone else now it’s there turn to say sorry to you two “. Xiaoting said as she stepped away as you gripped onto Leeseo’s hand harder as so did she.
“ .. I’m very sorry I did this to you Leeseo I didn’t think about how much this would hurt you and your friends.. I should have thought about what I was doing and never done it “. Leeseo nodded to Chaewons apology as Chaewon turned to you next.
“ Y/n I am deeply sorry about the lies I spread about your new friend.. and I hope you can forgive me after everything I have done to- “.
“ I don’t accept your apology “. You said face blank.
“ What? “. Chaewon said her face about to blow up into flames.
“ I don’t accept your apology “.
“ What- Why?! “. Chaewon said as her anger started to reach its limit.
“ I know you may seem sorry but I don’t think you really are “. Chaewon laughed as you finished talking.
“ Like you should be able to judge me! You just like Leeseo a stupid little nerd! Who didn’t have any friends for the whole of her childhood so she latched on to anyone who would care! But guess what they didn’t so when they left you like Dayeon did you were more hurt then ever and alone like you always should have been “. Chaewon said as she got closer to you and your eyes started to water.
“ Who’s to say the same thing won’t happen with Leeseo.. Just one more girl who doesn’t like you to add to the pile right “. As Chaewon finished you ran home as Wonyoung had to be held back by her friends and Leeseo’s tried to call her back as you ran.
But she just wasn’t fast enough.. you were gone..

Shattered Hero ~ Origins of the Ink Demons: Episode Maka Pt.4 ~
*images flashing*
Usagi : (wakes up and is covered in sweat) Oh man! Not another dream. This is pretty weird after all my friends were being used as science experiments that have been a laboratory...Hey, where am I? What is this place and what I am doing here naked?
Hotaru : You are awake, Sailor Moon.
Usagi : Hotaru Tomoe. What's going on? Don't tell me you've been awake and naked as well I see.
Hotaru : You've been asleep for a long time. I had to wake you up after your friends and mine were attacked and abuse by the corruption of my father for his selfish ways.
Usagi : Professor Tomoe, your dad. What happened to him?
Hotaru : Haven't you figured it out yet, I had to wake you up after that tremendous incident in which took place about over a year.
Usagi : Like I was in some kind of coma? I don't know what's gonna happen to my world after all things bad happened in the 90s. Say, we stool look in 90s, right? Hotaru, tell me.
Hotaru : This is not the 20th century anymore. This is the 21st Century.
Usagi : 21st Century? Wait a sec, where's mom? Where are my friends and where's our--
Hotaru : Your friends are safe and so does mine, they were saved from the clutches of my father all thanks to the boys due to the marriage between Naoko and Togashi. Kaolinite was out of the question. They have been reclaimed by the detectives. Here's how it happened, after the rest of Sailor Scouts were caputred and stripped bare skin in those cultivated tanks, my father and other scientists tried to conquer Japan and the galaxy for doing selfish things in order to cover the world in darkness for Dark Nebula. But thankfully due to Naoko and Togashi's marriage, my father was finally stopped by us and that spirit detective we helped, and was exposed to the public for calling him a "heartless" traitor for what he did to our group and the people of Japan would never forgive him. When the Spirit Detective and Grim Reaper Botan scolds him for what he did to the Sailor Scouts, Hiei, the young man with the Jagan eye, executed him and we had to hide ourselves from the public and went into the shadows in order to restore our lives.
Usagi : So we've been here for over a year? So what on earth did we exactly end up here? Where's the rest of the Sailor Senshi?
Hotaru : Come, there in that room. They're waiting for you to meet them.
(scene later cuts)
Usagi : So, we're good being completely naked without our clothes on. So what did you agree with being at here sleeping for over a year by that?
Hotaru : You'll cleverly find out that it's a secret.
Usagi : So any news on what's going on? So what are we in here for? So I guess it's a secret okay.
(Hatch door opens automatically)
Usagi : Hey, isn't that...? (sees the sailor scouts completely naked while wearing hi-tech shades to look at a computerized orb full of light) I see. Hey, guys long time no see.
Minako : Oi, Usagi. You finally made it, just in the nick of time to be awake.
Usagi : Yeah, but it's been way over a year to be awake. So where is home, exactly?
Minako : What are you talking about, Usagi? This is our home, our secret home. This is the new home base that takes place on the moon.
Usagi : Say WHAAAAAAT?
[DUN! DUN! DUUUUUUUUUN!]
Usagi : Hotaru! Why did you take us to the Earth's moon!? We're currently in space! How can we survive on the moon!? There's no oxygen outside! More importantly, we can't even breathe outside in space! And did you say this is the new base?
Makoto : Sure! This is the New Sailor Senshi hedquarters! An organization led by the councils of Celestial 9.
Usagi : Celestial 9. What an interesting name for a group of people that organize the line of 9 gods from earth. What a shocking coincidence, but I think not. I think I might be going back to civilization to earth and...(turns and sees Luna in front of her) What in the actual what? Who's this lady?
[Theme of Koco - Tomoya Ohtani]
Luna : I am Luna, one of the rulers of Earth's moon and observe the entire planet earth from here on the moon.
Usagi : Rulers of Earth's moon. Where's that from, Astrologists? So being naked up here is where...
Minako : Yep. This entire place built on the moon was created by Drawcia Family Corporation since a huge amount of energy has hit the entire moon in half, so the rulers of the moon decides to restore it after a green guy and that Space Colony.
Usagi : You mean those two that destroyed the old Sailor Senshi headquaters? But the colony blasted on the moon! Why would some genius manage to use a cannon from the space colony on the moon instead of the earth?
Luna : Our headquaters on the moon was destroyed by one man that did it in that incident 5 years ago.
Rei : That was the old Sailor Senshi Hedquaters that was operated on the moon over a year until the colony's energy blast cannon destroyed when he attempted to fire it at earth. It was not until the Black Arms invasion a year ago, there were many reports that the girl named Maka Albarn was falsely accused on attacking the American public and the city of Tokyo since she wiped out 80% of Japan's population.
Hotaru : Correct. And after the second explosion occured in tokyo caused by recruited detective, Kimial Diehl. [To Usagi] I believe you might wanna put these on.
Usagi : Oh, like this. (puts on the hi-tech shades to show information from the computerized orb) Woah...this is...awesome! The orb that resembles the light, it's hi-tech supercomputer. This is all the information from various incidents and multiple reports from around the world. Near the end of the 20th century, a girl named Lain Iwakura, protag of that smash hit psyhchological sci-fi horror show Serial Experiments Lain, has beginning to link into information that knows about the world, and I was never a fan of cyberpunk or science-fiction. That's what we needed in the 20th century, but now it's in the 21st century since she was saved by a random Gundam pilot whom she saved his life, Duo Maxwell, the pilot of the dominant Gundam robot Deathscythe.
Setsuna Meioh : True. Enemy intrusion from all over the globe that there are multiple threats from the forces of True evil itself.
Haruka : The Defense Line is okay for sure, but the offensive line over the sectors are really kicking it up a notch.
Michiru : Sounds kinda cool since Professor Tomoe was executed to the public. After all, you did saved your life and saved our lives as well.
Haruka : I know it's kinda messed up of why did Professor Tomoe wanted to use us for corruption in an exchange for conquering the Galaxy in darkness.
Hotaru : Because he was one of the leeches that showed his true colors, I will never forgive him for what he has done to you all.
Michiru : Maybe you're right about this. Guess he really made the steep price to pay.
Haruka : So will you ever forgive me about turning to the dark side and tried to conquer the planet in darkness?
Usagi : I've known Yusuke Urameshi a long time since we worked together to save my friends from the corruption of Hotaru's dad. But that's okay, we forgive you. I kinda miss mom a lot ever since she noticed about Professor Tomoe's execution. I heard about what happened to the YYH crew. Togashi and Naoko's marriage had long existed since we first appeared in the 90s. My catchphrase was "In the name of the moon, I'll punish you" That's what I always said about being a superhero but despite being a magical girl, my superhero catchphrases always gets it when it comes to Superheroes.
Minako : That's what we are today. So after Professor Tomoe's execution, we Sailor Scouts got depressed and we had no choice but to hide from the public except for you. Humanity has never been so arrogant, so does our archenemies as well. I've always once been Sailor V for a period of time before I joined you guys! I was the coolest superhero in all of Japan. But some villains are men who assaults women and hurt them, including superheroes like us. That's why we superheroes must stay away from bad things, men wanted to rape Magical Girls or some have sexual desires to harm them in the way of corruption. Humans can be heartless too, you know.
Usagi : I understand. That's why we gotta stick together as a group as what it takes for us to be heroes to keep ourselves out of the shadows.
*BEEPING*
[Reunion - Kenichi Tokoi]
Hotaru : Incoming enemy intrusion from earth! The giant heartless know as Darkside is on a rampage at the city of Tokyo! We must be prepared for battle! Come on, Usagi! You're leader of our team! You gotta do something!
Usagi : Hmmm...You got it! (thumbs up) You got yourself a deal! Alright Sailor Scouts let's head to Tokyo! Because the Sailor Scouts have returned! Let's become superheroes again!
(cues Sailor Moon Transformation)
Sailor Moon : I am back from the shadows, motherf***ers! Sailor Moon has finally arrived! Let's go kill us some heartless!
"Song Goku, We sailor Scouts are back in business!"

Why do astrologers freak out so much about being given a "fake chart"?
By a "fake chart" I mean some more or less sophisticated version of the "I told her I was a Virgo and she said it explained so much, but then I told her my birthday was actually in March" wheeze.
Because astrology, even more than other divination methods, is basically very shallow and arbitrary, but feels deep and unconditioned, especially if either a) you are simple and easily impressed by appearances or b) you have internalised the game, have done enough small-n wizard-training sessions to be able to apply the rules of the game to your reflexive, ideological, conditioned, ego-defence-led, personal mandala map, racial predisposition, mother-raised-me-like-that, Dozen Or So Basic Types of Guy Learnt In Primary Education, plain prejudices, and so on, and from there have learnt how to apply it to anything (but not everything), and have carefully not "disenchanted" yourself at any point - perhaps by keeping yourself subject to higher professional astrological priestcraft, or making yourself financially dependent on it, or using it as a means to get pussy, or just inflating your ego.
An astrologer has convinced himself he has developed a deep understanding of the motor of human psychology and fate, so when he has a standard consultation with a client - a jobbing magician type consultation with a random punter - charging perhaps $100, he really feels as though he is providing a service worth more than that -- he is offering a generous discount to attract a new client!
In reality, the astrologer's science is a way of keeping himself at a distance from people's real problems and really having to know someone. Astrologers (the kind I am talking about*) are quite anxious, systematic, alienated people (let the reader understand), and they use the chart as a sort of mask to get close but not too close to people.
The fake chart is a betrayal. The astrologer imagines he is speaking to his client, through the astral mask of course, and is feeling that deep and real connection, but it turns out that the client wasn't looking at him at all, and was instead looking at him sideways, seeing the face behind the mask. He was speaking all along to a phantasm... but it felt so real, like it always does... is he *always* speaking to phantasms?
When someone you have a real connection with lies to you, it is a very eloquent kind of lie. They have a reason for lying to you, and it may even be a kind of true lie. It may be an absolutely devastating, aggressive, soul-cutting lie. Something is being communicated because it is not a syntactic communication between phantasms, but a moral one between people. The betrayer can be hurt as much as the betrayed, and questions of forgiveness and reconciliation are real and difficult.
But this astrological lie isn't of that kind. It's quite senseless. The client and astrologer have manufactured a very insecure relationship, but it is mediated through this mask, through the distancing science of astrology, and through the recombination of arbitrary symbols. The astrologer, though, has gone and attached too much to them, so in the stress of betrayal, what can he do? Tantrum and cut off the liar as being unimportant. He still has his system, the mask strapped to his face, which was always what he was really connected to.
*There are different schools of astrology, and some of them do not quite teach this kind of astrology. Their lineages tend to come through psychotherapy, which tend to equip their practitioners with a more flexible and contextualised sense of "the language-game of astrology", and both attract less autistic practitioners, and do not train them in such autistic ways. "The defects of psychotherapy" is a subject for a post people with more experience can write, but psychotherapists tend to be much better at taking a lie straight to the face.

Fuck it, here is the pros and cons to each game. This is all subjective, I do personally believe everything I am saying and know others who agree with me, too. The opinions of a complete stranger probably don't matter all that much, but I do want you to have a good time and enjoy yourself playing fallout. This is also pretty long, so I'm gonna put it below the cut.
Fallout 1 and 2
I put em together cause the pros and cons pretty much apply to both, and you should really play through 1 and then 2 for the best experience.
Pros
Where it all started
Written beautifully, moral choices especially are written great (given how 3 handles em this is pretty big)
Very fun turn based combat (based on gurps im pretty sure)
Exploration is fun and flows nicely
The characters, the voicing, the writing, the animations. All incredible.
Building your character feels meaningful since you get options to do certain things with different skills.
Both are set in the western USA, so there are links to FNV that the others don't really have.
Cons
Obviously, the games are very graphically outdated. Tbf to them they are almost 30 years old.
If you aren't used to games with the afformention turn based combat, I don't recommend starting here. They aren't very forgiving (as in my first time playing both, I died in the starting area multiple times.
Fallout 3
Pros (I fucking hate fallout 3 so much so this is hard for me)
There are occasionally some good bits in the story. I won't say any more so as not to spoil them.
Playing 3 will make a lot of 4 make more sense since 3 and 4 are the only games on the East Coast. Certain characters and concepts that appear in both for example.
Cons (thank god now, I can shit talk 3)
The game starts so fucking slowly. The intro is god-awful and honestly almost made me give up playing because I got really bored. It has also made me not want to play again because I know it's there.
The story is really not very well written at all. Again, I am not going to elaborate on that much because I dont want to spoil anything for you. But just know there are some decent sized plot holes, and the story really struggled to make me care about what i was doing and why. It is also very linear. You are just following a path the whole way.
Moral choices are shallow as hell. All of them boil down to "am i playing as a mass murdering psychopath or am I... not doing that." The game world also doesn't really react to these choices.
The gameplay gets really easy after a bit since the game is designed so that you can go anywhere right as you leave the vault. So the fame doesn't feel like it has a sense of increasing challenge. The raiders you fight are always the exact same difficulty.
Your character build outside of combat feels pointless since everything is just percentage based, so you can just save-scum speech options instead of worrying about building an actual character.
I am assuming since you mentioned playing 1 and 2 that you are on PC. So this game requires a PHD in computer science, and you must have at least 1000 years of tech-wizard training under your belt in order to get it to function properly on anything later than Windows 7.
Fallout: New Vegas (again)
Pros
Cmon, you already know this game is fantastic, frankly one of the best ever made.
You get to play again with a different faction or a different build or take a different companion around with you.
Motherfucking Robot Dog
Cons
You can't romance companions, which frankly is bullshit.
It isn't really something new for you. It could be worth going to a different game to get some new insight first.
Fallout 4
Pros
Obviously it is graphically the best
The weapon, armour, and power armour customization is wonderful.
Can finally romance companions.
Speaking of the companions are all great and have very nice storylines of their own.
It's a lot easier to mod than the rest (if that is your kinda thing, personally i love modding games, but tis up to you)
Has the same bonus new vegas does with having multiple factions to pick from.
Voiced player characters. Some people don't like this, but I do. Mostly because the voice actors did a fantastic job, and the same goes for the rest of the game's voice work
Cons
Has the same issue of a slow start and intro that 3 has. It isn't as long, and imo isn't as boring, but you still aren't right into the game like you are with 1, 2, and New Vegas.
The base-building. I'm just not a huge fan of it. Beyond the quests that require you to do it, I rarely touch it.
I don't like the radio host, especially compared to the smooth mf that is Mr Neeeewww Vegas and even Fo3's 3-Dog
They did the BoS diiirty.
Alright. I believe that is everything. Enjoy your time in whichever part of the wasteland you choose next friend.
#also i see your tag about 76#it was pretty shit at launch ill admit#but now#it is really not as bad as people say it is#its just not a fallout game in the same way#its fallout if fallout was an MMO survival shooter.#which isnt terrible but it just isnt what anyone expected or wanted#i personally enjoyed it when i played it with my old friends

Since you’ve already done Mosul Trein for the character opinion bingo, what do you think of Crewel and Grim (who is apparently counted as NRC staff?)?
Trein Character Opinion Bingo here!
Nuuu Grim is NOT categorized staff 😭 I don’t know who’s counting him as one, he’s just a little meow meow…………………….
***Standard disclaimer: These are just my personal opinions of the character(s); regardless of what I may think of them, sharing my thoughts is NOT meant to offend or to shame anyone that thinks differently.***
Oh boy, here’s another hot take from Raven on a popular character: Crewel’s just okay, he isn’t great. I enjoy bits and pieces of him, but I wouldn’t say I necessarily “like” him? I only like him in certain scenes and specific contexts.
TWST sometimes mentions that Crewel is very into fashion (which is something I can relate to), but the way he personally dresses looks so hideous to me 🤡 I can excuse his haircut, but the color blocked suit, high rise ankle pants, and that garish fur coat with the tails are ridiculous and resembles the mildly impractical kind of clothing I’d see on some fashion runways. This is an instance in which leaning too much into the character inspiration didn’t work out.
I think the main story tells us that Crewel is Adeuce, Grim, and MC’s homeroom teacher, but I don’t get the impression that he actually is aside from a few blatant reminders here and there. I feel like he should be a tiny bit more interactive with the main squad if he’s their homeroom teacher, but instead he only really shows up when the plot calls for him. It doesn’t give us a lot of base content to work with when it comes to his character, so all I get from him is that he’s haughty and proud, has fancy tastes, and is stern and even scarier when upset (kind of like a “tough love” thing). 🤡 OKAY, I DON’T KNOW IF THIS IS JUST A ME THING, BUT IT MUST BE BECAUSE I NEVER HEAR ANYONE ELSE TALK ABOUT THIS: I don’t think Crewel calling his students “puppies” is cute, it just comes off to me as degrading and, quite frankly, insulting :/ A PUPPY IS JUST LIKE A BABY EXCEPT WITH FUR... so it’s like a teacher is calling you a baby to your face. It drives me insane, because it comes across as Crewel looking down on his students rather than treating them as his equals or as people worthy of respect, and it doesn’t make him appear approachable.
In some events (like Scary Monsters! and Fairy Gala), we get to see more to him and how he engages with the other characters, students and staff alike. It shows me that Crewel is much more interesting when he’s NOT actively teaching. We can see that he is truly passionate about fashion, and that while he is usually strict, he also advocates for letting loose every now and again, and has a more forward-thinking mindset than Trein, who is pretty old-fashioned. It’s great fun seeing Crewel and Trein butt heads over their differences, be it modernism vs traditionalism, dogs vs cats, etc.
I think most of why I don’t like Crewel is because a lot of the stuff I see in the fandom only focuses on this particular interpretation in which Crewel is................................. (Michard, please forgive me for saying this and sullying the name of your expansive media empire) “daddy”???????? Like, he’s portrayed as extremely smug and domineering, someone who won’t compromise at all, and that’s not appealing to me. I much prefer the Crewel who will scold his students for misbehaving one second then tell them it’s okay to let their hair down as long as it’s not in his classroom the next, the Crewel who will give treats to good boys like Grim, the Crewel who will butt heads and fight for what he stands for.
OH, AND ONE THING WE DON’T GET ENOUGH OF??????? SHOW ME SCIENCE CLUB ADVISOR CREWEL, TWST DEVS. I AM NO LONGER ASKING. It would be so funny to see Crewel trying to keep a lid on Rook in the lab, or overseeing Trey using club time to bake even though you’re not supposed to eat science experiments. There’s a lot of untapped potential in this club dynamic, and I really hope TWST seizes the opportunity and properly showcases their zany antics sometime soon. (No lie, I kind of headcanon Crewel as being like a father figure to Trey and Rook 😇 like he’s more stern with, but also more protective of, his science club children.....................)
AT LAST 🥺 I CAN GUSH ABOUT GRIMMUGRIMMU MY FURBABY
He is, by default, the best boy in the game on account of being a fluffy cute kitty (no matter how much he claims he’s not one). I love his sassy little face, that tuft of white fur on his chest, the mysterious blue flames, and his pronged tail ✨ Whenever Grim gets a new outfit, my heart just feels all warm and fuzzy! I only wish he got more of them, because he deserves a whole closet of fancy accessories and outfits. He at LEAST needs a ribbon for each of the dorms (we’ve had Heartslabuyl and the standard striped one for Ramshackle so far), an outfit for each event (technically we’ve only had Halloween and Harveston), and a Grim version of each of the standard looks each main boy gets (School Uniform and Labwear were released as anniversary cards; I’m hoping we get Ceremonial Robes Grim next anniversary).
Grim is actually important and has an impact on the main story, AND he’s a genuine friend to MC through all those hot messes. He can be grating and cause trouble, but then again, what friend doesn’t? He feels so raw and real, like the type of friend you’d constantly bicker with because you’re just that close and you can totally understand that the other person doesn’t mean any genuine harm when they sass back. “Minion” never feels insulting to me, it just feels like a dumb nickname my best friend would call me just to be cheeky. It’s clear that Grim and MC care for each other and can poke fun of the other without it coming across as malicious. Sometimes he reminds me of my pet (not just because of how he looks), cuz he’s sassy, bratty, demanding, and easily motivated by food… but I love Grim, just as I love my pet, all the same.
Grim is the one and only character who has been with us since the very start. Fuck Crowley, fuck Adeuce, fuck Malleus, fuck ALL the TWST characters (yes, even the ones I really love); Grim is the REAL first friend we ever made in Twisted Wonderland, and he is the one we are closest to in the game, the one we spend the most time with. He’s our roommate, and our literal other half as a student. He was always with us through circumstance, but was those circumstances that brought you closer to him. He IS a piece of our world.
… And he’s also kinda dumb and eats suspicious rocks he just finds lying around on the floor BUT HEY there’s plot significance in that, so I’ll allow it 😤 I really like that “haha Grim eats rocks, how funny” was super relevant and is actually culminating into something sinister in the main story. It really hurts to see a good friend going down a dark path 😭 I just wish TWST had gone more “all the way” in some aspects of it… Like when Grim attacks MC, I thought it would have been something more substantial than just a cat scratch??????? I personally think it would have worked better because taking a harder hit would have left MC with a more evident physical reminder that Grim was changing into something they didn’t recognize anymore. A larger/deeper wound would better allude to how truly powerless MC is in this world (something not often directly addressed in the narrative), and it brings up the fragility of human life (which seems to be a major theme being foreshadowed for episode 7). But oh well, what’s done is done and I’ll accept that. It works just fine as is, since it was mentioned that the catscratch was the first time Grim ever hurt or tried to purposefully attack MC.
Episode 6 was already very emotionally touching between the story of the Shroud brothers and the character development for the other OB boys, but something else that resonated with me were the few Grim scenes we got. We witness him being kidnapped, and we see MC’s desperation to get him back, the distance that MC is willing to go for their dear friend 🥺 Meanwhile, Grim wakes up in an unfamiliar place, finding himself completely alone… AnD THE pOOR BqBY CRiES 😭 because unlike when MC first “woke up”, no one is there to greet him. Where’s his buddy? Why’s he in this weird place, subjected to all these tests by strange people? Why does he have these scary memories of hurting his friend? Is he… a bad person? No, no, Grim is good. Right? He has to be… It must be so scary being in Grim’s shoes… and can you imagine the relief he feels when he sees MC and Adeuce again???????? POOR BABY CRIES AGAIN, he’s finally free, he’s finally home. I JUST WANNA HUG HIM AND NEVER LET HIM GO.
What really scares me is that????? Grim will be sad again if MC has to return home. I don’t care how Adeuce or Malleus feel about it, I think Grim will be the one that will hurt the most. His first friend, his other half, is suddenly going away, and he’ll never be able to see them again. All those fun times and happy memories will never happen again. If I were Grim, I’d totally lose it too 😭
I think the fandom is pretty split when it comes to Grim? I see a lot of people who think he’s a cute gremlin, but I see just as many people hating on him. While every opinion is valid, I can’t say that I see eye-to-eye with some of the reasoning for the Grim hate???? I agree that his voice is annoying, but I don’t understand why people don’t like Grim for “being a shit” (because honestly, most of the main cast is shitty too) or for “taking attention away from MC”. Maybe I just don’t care as much about the latter because I’ve never been the type to self-insert as MC, I’ve just seen Grim as the main character anyway and MC as more of a sidekick or an addition to his character. Just because you are the “MC” doesn’t mean the story is actually about you, it’s very possible to frame a story from the MC’s perspective without having the focus of the narrative be on MC. I find much more entertainment in this kind of storytelling; it makes me feel like a fly on the wall watching the drama go down 👀
I also don’t think it’s fair to pin the blame on Grim when this was a very conscious decision by the TWST devs for the stories they wanted to tell. It gives the players the chance to self insert and imagine alternate scenarios as much or as little as they want!! If MC was too involved, it would have the unintentional effect of alienating people who could never see themselves doing or saying the things the game is making their MC do/say. (It’s why I personally take issue with being forced to be Malleus’s “friend”, because even though I wouldn’t want to do that, the game is making me to go out and engage with him anyway.) Grim’s just out here vibin’ and eating his canned tuna, let the kitty consume in peace 😭
If I’m being entirely honest, I wonder if part of the reason people don’t have patience with Grim (at least not compared to the other main boys) is because he isn’t a hot anime guy 😔 I really love seeing humanized Grim fan art and fanfiction, but sometimes I’m left feeling like humanized Grim would have been preferred over the original 😅 I get that we’re all here to enjoy pretty characters, but I don’t like the implication that humanized Grim somehow makes him more “palatable” to the audience. Granted, it’s not as bad as being disgusted by Trein because of his age, but it still gives the impression that Grim would be valued more if he was a conventionally attractive human. I think Grim is perfect the way he is, so 💦 you can imagine why that bothers me.

Below the Greenhouse
For Phic Phight 2021. Prompt by @ave-aria: Maddie discovers the depths of Vlad's obsessions when she stumbles upon his secret lab. Despite the shock, part of her almost isn't surprised by the stolen Fenton Tech, the ripoff ghost portal, or the eerie Holo-Maddie—but the clone she finds floating in the pod at the back of the room? That's another matter entirely.
Word Count: 7,951
Also on AO3 and Fanfiction.net
Note:
Me: *sees a prompt with the word clone*
Me: Oh no.
We all know why this happened.
Maddie knew Vlad Masters was a creep. She did. And she’d known this for a while, even when she, Jack, and Vlad were in college. Before his accident, she had known he'd been preparing to profess his “love” and ask her out, even though he’d known full-well she and Jack were dating. And while, that might have been forgivable back then, when all of them were young and naive and Vlad didn’t hold such bitterness towards her husband, it wasn't now.
Now, Maddie knew Vlad was hopelessly bitter. After his accident, he’d refused to talk to them. He’d shut them out of his room when they visited the hospital and after he’d been released, he’d refused their phone calls and ignored their letters. Eventually, she and Jack gave up and they moved on with their lives.
That was, until Vlad chose to reconnect. And unfortunately, Vlad was worse than ever. More smug. More arrogant. More creepy. He ignored the fact that Maddie was happily married with children and he still insisted that she should leave the love of her life for him.
Maddie really only tolerated him for Jack’s sake. Her husband still enthusiastically loved the man who’d been his best friend in college and she couldn’t bear to crush his spirit, though the woman was increasingly doubting her choice to stay silent now.
And now, Maddie realized that Vlad was much more despicable than she thought.
It started with a series of strange phone calls. The voice was robotic, yet strangely familiar sounding. It reminded her of her mother or maybe her sister? Either way, the sound somehow tugged at her heartstrings just as much as it made her shiver anxiously.
“Please save him.” The woman’s voice asked, an oddly flat plea.
“Tell me who you are.” Maddie demanded, not for the first time.
The speaker ignored the question, continuing. “I cannot get Number 6 out myself. Please save him.”
“You keep saying that, every time you call this number.” The woman sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. This was the fifth time she had gotten a call like this. All from an almost emotionless, staticky voice. All begging her to save someone or something called Number 6. Something she couldn’t seem to get anymore information about. “But who is number six?” Maddie asked, trying, probably futilely to learn more.
The answer surprised her. “Number 6 is just a boy. He should be free. He does not belong in a laboratory.”
Maddie frowned, brows furrowed in confusion “A laboratory?”
“That is correct.” The robotic voice answered.
“I’m sorry, are you talking about an actual child? What is a child doing in a laboratory?” The woman wrinkled her nose in disgust.
“Number 6 is physically younger than the age of majority and therefore meets the definition of a child.”
“Okay?” Maddie furrowed her brow and repeated herself more severely. “Why are you keeping a child in your laboratory?”
There was a pause. “I am not permitted to share that information.”
That made the woman’s stomach flop. “And why not?”
“My dearest has forbidden me from discussing the details of his experiments with outsiders.”
Maddie frowned again. “Then why are you talking to me?”
“You are a loophole.” The speaker said without hesitation.
That gave the ghost hunter pause. She opened her mouth to ask more when there was a mechanical whirl across the line.
The fast, choppy words cut through. “Dearest will be leaving on a trip tonight and be away for the next three days.”
“Wait, what are you-” Maddie started.
“The address is 600 North Maple Drive. Enter through the trapdoor in the greenhouse. I will be waiting.”
Across the line, a male voice called from far away. “Pull up the data from the last test, dear. And prepare the subject for sample collection.”
Maddie shivered; there was something familiar-
“Please hurry. Save him.” The robotic female voice whispered before the line cut off.
Maddie sighed, dropping the phone. She put her head in her hands. She didn’t know what to make of that. At first, she had thought these mysterious calls were pranks. Maybe even a ghost trying to trick her. Except…. That didn’t feel right. It had been a week and no ghost had acted against her or her family. No ghost would wait this long to act and no human prankster would continue this charade for this long either.
So who had been calling her and what do they really want? Could the speaker really be asking for her help? The idea made dread pool in her stomach, especially now. Now that she had more information. Now she had a location. And that was Vlad’s address. And that other voice...it had sounded like… Vlad, as if the speaker was in fact in Vlad’s mansion. Her stomach flopped. He’d been talking about data from a test and preparing a subject for sample collection. That in and of itself wasn’t necessarily that alarming. Vlad had a background in science. He could be conducting research, just like she and Jack did out of their own basement. Except…
Number 6 is just a boy. He should be free. He does not belong in a laboratory. The words rang in her head, making her feel sick.
Maddie sat for a long while, staring at the phone. So many questions clashed in her mind and she wanted answers. What was really happening here? And how would she learn the truth?
An idea started forming in her mind. A surely bad, horrible idea. She still had no idea who had been calling her. It probably was a trap. So why did she want to follow the instructions? And the prospect of sneaking onto Vlad Master’s property? She could get in serious trouble. And for what? Vlad would never do anything as immoral as what the speaker hinted at. Except...what if? Doubt grew in her mind. What if?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That was how Maddie found herself pulling up to Vlad’s mansion in Amity Park. The woman sighed, putting the car into park and taking the key out of the ignition. She was really doing this, wasn’t she? The scientist could hardly believe her own actions. But it was the middle of the night and she was alone, in the small forest behind the mansion.
Silently, Maddie got out of the car and started sneaking across the yard. She hadn’t told Jack where she was going. Maybe that was a mistake but the woman somehow knew he’d try to talk her out of this. And he would have a point. Yet the woman was still driven forward despite her better judgement.
Arriving in front of the greenhouse, the ghost hunter stopped. She looked side to side, checking to see if anyone was watching. The yard was quiet and bare, only the sound of night insects cutting through the air. Maddie looked back into the building. To the left of the door was a blinking red light but other than that, inside was dark. Tentatively, Maddie jiggled the greenhouse’s door handle. It didn’t budge at first but then there was a buzz and a click. The door unlocked and the woman frowned, watching the blinking light turn from red to white. Was that a security system? And...had the door just unlocked for her?
Maddie bit her lip. She considered turning back but...she wanted answers. Instead, she pulled her ectostaff out of her belt. A blow to the head from it would be just as effective on a human attacker as it would be on a ghost.
The woman opened the door, quickly stepping though. She closed it and cautiously crossed the room. From what she could tell in the dark, this was a normal greenhouse. She breathed deeply, taking in the wet earthy smell of dirt, the soft perfume of flowers, and… She sniffed. That scent, old batteries, ozone, and citrus. That was familiar. Was that ectoplasm?
Maddie turned, eyes searching for the tell-tell glow of a ghost. Her gaze fixed on something a few rows over. The huntress continued forward, brow wrinkling at the sight. Unsurprisingly, these were plants but….a faint glow enveloped the snow white leaves, the orange and black fruits. Tentatively, she reached forward and cupped one of the fruits. Even through her gloves, she could feel the ghostly chill.
Maddie’s frown deepened. She’d never seen anything like this before. Was this some kind of ghostly plant? And in Vlad’s greenhouse of all places? Where did it come from? How did the billionaire procure it? And why hadn’t he said anything to her and Jack?
With that thought, the ghost hunters’ stomach flopped with nerves. There was actually something here, something out of the ordinary. Her mind turned back to those phone calls, the reason she was here in the first place. The speaker had said something about a trapdoor.
With that, Maddie pulled a flashlight out of her belt and flicked it on. She looked down, searching, and her eyes widened. Oh….well then. There, not three feet in front of her, was the door. The woman approached. Crouching down, she put down her staff and grasped the flashlight between her teeth. With both hands, she pulled the door up, revealing a short ladder leading to a narrow passageway.
The ghost hunter furrowed her brow, hesitating for a moment. She braced herself, forcing her shoulders to relax to dislodge some of the anxiety. Maddie stood up straight. She grabbed her staff and started lowering herself down the ladder. Once she was at the bottom, the woman turned and pointed the flashlight down the passageway. There, maybe ten feet in front of her was a metal blast door.
Dread rose in Maddie at the sight but she tried to push it down. This was probably an old cellar, or maybe even a bomb shelter. Rich people tended to have those, didn’t they? It could be…..
The woman stepped forward. Tentatively, she placed a hand on the opening mechanism. It looked like a wheel that she’d need both hands to open. She moved to return her staff to her belt but before she could, a mechanical whirl sounded. The wheel started turning. Paling Maddie rapidly stepped back. Her heart pounded in fear of being caught.
Then the door swung open with a groan. The ghost hunter registered bright light pouring through the opening. She blinked for a moment, her eyes adjusting to the change. Then she registered the translucent figure floating across the doorway.
Maddie scowled, acting on instinct. “Take that ghost.” She swung her staff but the blow never connected, instead sailing through the blue clad figure without resistance.
“I am not a ghost.” A familiar, robotic voice responded.
It was then that Maddie finally registered what she was seeing. She gasped in shock. It was herself, except floating, translucent, and...glitching around the edges? “What are you?” She breathed.
“I am the MADDIE program, an artificial intelligence meant to emulate Dr. Madeline Fenton.”
The ghost hunter stared for a long moment in confusion. She hadn’t expected a response and now her mind couldn’t catch up, barely processing what she was seeing.
The hologram floated backward, motioning into the door. “Come inside.”
Maddie blinked, registering the words. Her eyes flitted from her strange double to the interior of the room. Concrete floor, metallic walls, sturdy work tables, and….a soft green light. It looked familiar, very much like the Fentonworks lab. The woman’s heart skipped a beat. She’d already come this far….
The huntress took a few steps forward and crossed the threshold, all the while keeping her eyes on the hologram. The other figure was unmoving and silent, not even blinking. After another long moment staring, Maddie warily looked around. As she’d glimpsed, there were shiny metal work tables and shelves. A station with a microscope, centrifuge, and table top incubator. She frowned, eyes falling on glowing vials of ectoplasm.
This was a lab, obviously. A ghost research lab, based on the ectoplasm. But below Vlad’s greenhouse? Her eyes flickered to another table, this one holding familiar looking devices. Ectoguns, slim and silvery with a design Maddie knew intimately, despite the unfamiliar logo and red accents.
The woman walked forward, tentatively hefting the gun. “This looks like our model 35.” She stated seriously.
Maddie then turned, facing the source of the soft green light. Her jaw dropped at the sight of the swirling green. “That’s a portal. A ghost portal.” She muttered.
The scientist took in the design of the frame, of the ecto-filtrater and the control panel. That was her and Jack’s design as well. Her mind swam, information bouncing around senselessly as she tried to make sense of all this. This was a lab. A ghost research lab. A hidden, secret research lab in Vlad Master’s backyard, below his greenhouse. Vlad’s secret lab. But...why?
She bit her lip, her eyes falling on the Fenton Works designed weapons and the portal. Their stolen designs. Maddie could barely believe it, yet she wasn’t as surprised as she should be. Vlad still having an interest in ghosts? The creepy billionaire stealing their blueprints? Why did that seem all too plausible?
“Dr. Fenton?” A staticy voice asked behind her.
Maddie turned, frown deepening as she took in the hologram again. Her mouth felt dry. “He….Vlad...made a hologram that looks and sounds like me.” She felt sickened at the thought, at the evidence in front of her.
“Yes. I was modeled after Dr. Madeline Fenton.” The hologram replied.
The ghost hunter put a hand on her head, feeling a headache grow. It made sense, in a sick kind of way. Vlad had a fascination with her. He was not exactly subtle in his ‘affections.’ Of course he would create this creepy copy. “Why?” She groaned, in rising anger.
“I was created to serve as a digital assistance and security system.”
Maddie looked up, blinking in confusion. She hadn’t been expecting an answer. The woman then frowned, realizing something. A security system? Did that mean… “You unlocked the greenhouse door for me...and turned off the security system.”
“That is correct.” The hologram replied.
The ghost hunter wrinkled her brow. “Why?”
Somehow, almost imperceptibly, the figure’s expression softened. “You came to take Number 6 away from here.”
That gave Maddie pause, her eyes widening slightly as she took in the AI with new eyes. “You were the one calling me.”
It finally hit her. The voice on the phone, the monotone one that reminded her of her mother and sister. It was this AI, this AI which sounded very much like Maddie herself. Of course she hadn’t recognized that. Most people don’t know what they really sound like outside of their own head and Maddie herself was no exception.
“Yes, I did.” The AI confirmed. “Please save him.”
“Him?” Maddie bit her lip, feeling that familiar dread again. “Number 6? Who is this person?”
The hologram floated toward the other side of the room, towards a tall cylindrical metal tube that Maddie hadn’t noticed yet. “Come.” She motioned the ghost hunter to approach.
The huntress did so, fixing a studious gaze on the tube.
“Viewing panel opening.” The AI announced as the whirl of gears sounded throughout the room.
In front of the cylinder, metal paneling slid apart. Slowly a gap opened, making the inside of the pod visible. Maddie first registered neon green ectoplasm swirling in some kind of solution. Then her jaw dropped. There, suspended in the chamber was a lithe figure. It looked male, the form of a young teenager. For a moment, the ghost hunter registered white hair and a black and white garment. Phantom? Had Vlad managed to capture Phantom? No...that….
Her brow furrowed, stepping closer. She examined the glowing body. The figure’s appearance was shifting. Its skin was a mosaic of ghostly blue and a pale, more human color in ever changing, shifting patches. The black and white garment also shifted, seeming to grow and spread over the body before retreating, leaving bare skin. On the head was a mop of black and white hair, the patches rapidly changing color and appearing to move across the skull.
Maddie frowned. There was a resemblance to Phantom. (How? How in the world?) But this wasn’t the same being. “This is a ghost.” Her brow wrinkled in confusion, despite her confidence of the fact.
“Yes.” The MADDIE program answered plainly.
The scientist turned. “I am not letting a ghost out of here.”
The hologram frowned. “Number Six is a boy. He deserves to be free.”
Maddie pointed. “But….that is a ghost.”
“Yes.” The AI confirmed again. “But he is also a boy. Observe.” The translucent figure waved a hand over one of the computers. “Display subject’s vials.”
Instantly, readings appeared on the screen, a rhythmic beeping commencing. The ghost hunter studied the words and numbers. “Oxygen saturation, Blood Glucose, Blood pressure, Heart Rate.” Her brow furrowed. “These are vials for a human.”
“Yes. These are Number six’s vials.”
Maddie scrunched her nose in disbelief. “But...this is a ghost.”
But the sound of the heart monitor pounded in her head. She turned, facing the figure in the tube again. The readings could be fake. But why? And why did Vlad have a ghost captured in his lab? And why did it resemble Phantom? Or at least, it seemed to. Not that she’d ever been this close to Phantom before but the white hair, suit, and lithe figure were the same. She took in the shifting appearance. And what was that? An attempt at shapeshifting?
Maddie turned back to the screen, reading again. At the top, it read Clone Six, 100% stability. “Clone?” The woman questioned. “Clone of who? Of Phantom?”
“Yes.” The AI answered. In response, the ghost hunter turned sharply. The hologram continued. “Subject Six has completed the gestation period and is now viable and capable of living outside the artificial womb.”
Maddie blinked rapidly. There was a lot of information there. “Clone? Vlad cloned Phantom and...it’s ready?”
“Yes. He is stable.” The hologram turned. “Please save him. Take him away from dearest.”
“Look.” The scientist pinched the bridge of her nose. “I am not letting this ghost go.”
“He is a boy.” The AI insisted.
“You say that but-”
“And a ghost.” The hologram continued. “He is a living boy and a ghost.”
Maddie’s heart skipped a beat. “Living?”
She turned back to the chamber, something in her resonating at the word. The strands of black hair, the human colored skin, the patches that did not glow. She looked up into the face and something itched in the back of her mind. It looked familiar, not just because the ghost looked like Phantom.
Maddie took another step. She reached forward until she was touching the glass. The heart monitor steadily beeped as the figure in the chamber twitched.
The huntress shook her head, denying. “That’s just...not possible. Someone can’t be a ghost and a human.” What the AI was saying was nonsensical, completely impossible. So why did Maddie not feel certain?
“Initiate wake up sequence.” The AI declared.
Startled, Maddie’s head whipped to the side. “What are you-”
In the chamber, something thumped. The woman’s head turned to see flailing limbs. The figure’s eyes suddenly popped open, one blue and one green panickedly flickering around the room. The rate of the heart monitor increased. The being thrashed, chest spasming. A hand pounded against the glass.
“What did you do?” Maddie demanded of the AI.
There was no answer, just fearful flailing within the tube. The ghostly figure’s gaze shifted down and fell on Maddie. The eyes widened, silently begging. More pounding of hands on the inside of the glass. The beeping increased, pounding into the woman’s head. The ghost boy blinked and the eyes were blue, icy blue. The gaze, the familiar gaze stabbed Maddie in the heart.
The woman panicked, her own heart race. Her eyes ripped away from the boy. What do I do? What do I do? Her mind raced. Her gaze fell on a large button marked, Emergency release. She acted without thinking, slamming her hand down on the button.
There was hiss and a beep from the chamber. In the blink of an eye, the glass wall of the chamber parted. Maddie yelped, jumping back as water and ectoplasm poured out. The liquid soaked her anyway. Then, the boy inside the tub was falling. He tipped forward and the woman reached out to catch him on instinct.
A surprisingly heavy body fell onto the ghost hunter. Her knees threatened to buckle under the sudden impact. Instead she wobbled and wrapped one arm around the lithe body. Shakily, Maddie lowered herself to her knees, taking the ghostly figure with her.
Numbly, hardly believing what she’d just done, the woman huddled on the floor. She tensed at the being reached towards her. A part of her brain screamed that it was unsafe to be so near to a ghost, yet she didn’t move as ungloved hands weakly grabbed onto her jumpsuit and the ghost pressed into her chest, as if it was hugging her.
Maddie looked down at the being, marveling at the sight. Its appearance was still shifting. Black and white hair. Black jumpsuit and bare skin. Patches of ghostly blue and pale human skin. The woman could feel the ectoplasmic energy, the ghostly chill radiating off the being as well but..... Its glow...there was something off. The glow was dimming. It flickered like a light bulb before cutting off.
In front of her came a whine as the ghost buried its head into her shoulder. Soft cold breath caressed her check. Breathe? Maddie’s heart skipped a breath. She could feel the chest rising and falling with fast breaths, pressed against her as it was. And that beeping. Maddie glanced up at the display. The heart monitor was still keeping pace with a rapidly fluttering heart.
The scientists breath lodged in her throat. No this was...ghosts didn’t breath. They didn’t have heart beats. They didn’t…. She looked down at the shaking figure again and her world turned upside down. The black suit was receding, evaporating. It disappeared off the arms and chest, every part of the body she could see, leaving bare skin below. And that skin, it was changing. Pale peach-tinted skin was rapidly replacing the inhuman blue. A warm breath blew over her check, the ghostly chill quickly vanishing. The weight pressed into her increased, the fingers holding onto her becoming warm and solid. And on the head, black overtook white until she was staring down at the full black head of hair.
Maddie’s mind stopped unable to process. This was...she was...in front...of her...this was... She blinked rapidly, as if the sign would change but...the lack of glow, the human skin tone, the warmth, the breathing, the black hair. That..that damn heart monitor. This...this was...no...no way. The ghost hunter shakily, wrapped her arms around the now hyperventilating figure. She winced feeling the warm, solid skin under her gloves. This was impossible but….
This...this was a human. No ghost...no ghost could fake this. No shapeshifting would give a ghost human warmth and a heartbeat. And she could feel it, the rapidly fluttering heart pressed against her own.
The ghost whined again. No. no. The boy. The boy who had just been a ghost but had changed. The boy who’d just been inside that pod. Who was shaking and hyperventilating in front of her. Another whine. A tear fell onto her shoulder.
Maddie’s mind finally caught up. Her arms shifted into a more proper hug, hands reaching up to run through the black hair. “Shhh. Shh. It’s okay.” The woman whispered. “Breath with me. In.” She breathed in deliberately. “And out.” She pushed the air out of her lungs. “In and Out.”
The boy copied, his breaths following hers. In and out. In and out. His breathing slowed as did the beeping of the heart monitor. Slowly, so slowly, his shaking subsided but the boy didn’t let go of her suit.
Maddie stayed still, questions bombarding her now that the boy was calmed. This boy, who was he? Where had he come from? Why...why did Vlad have a teenager in his lab? And why did he have a ghost that could change into a human? Or was this a human who could turn into a ghost? Her mind raced, her own heart rate increasing with overwhelming confusion. How was this possible? What was this kid?
She looked down, an idea sparking. That ghost disease that all the teenagers supposedly got. The disease that gave them ghost powers. She and Jack had never seen any of the supposedly infected students. They’d dismissed the claims as absurd. Humans could not have ghost powers. Yet Jazz and Danny’s friend, Sam, had both insisted that they’d gotten sick and both had displayed a ghostly ability. And if...if that was true….. She paled, the overheard words from the last phone call hitting her. Tests, sample collection, subject, experiment. If Vlad was experimenting with that disease, experimenting with ectoplasm on...on….
“Where...where am I?” A quiet male voice asked, directly in front of her. Maddie stiffened at the words, roughly pulled out of her thoughts. “What’s happening?”
The woman’s heart stopped. That voice. That voice. Oh god. Suddenly shaking, she unwrapped her arms from the boy. Gently, so gently, she grabbed his wrists and pulled his hands off of her. The boy seemed to shrink in on himself at that, shoulders falling.
He sniffled but Maddie shushed it. “Look...look up at me.” She quietly asked. Slowly, the teenager obeyed and again, the mother felt like her world was turned on its head. Familiar, icy blue eyes met hers. The curve of that nose, the round chin, the slightly chubby cheeks. Oh god, she knew...she knew this face intimately. A trembling hand reached out to touch, cupping the boy’s cheek. “Danny?” Maddie asked, before she could really think.
The blue eyes widened, looking at her with the most pure and innocent hope she’d even seen. “Danny? Is that...is that my name?”
The woman’s expression fell, her mind catching up to the question, to what she was seeing. No, this couldn't be Danny. She had just seen him earlier that night. And on the face in front of her….The freckles….the freckles were wrong, laid out in a different pattern. And the scar above his lips, where was it? The mother glanced down, at his collar bone. The birthmark wasn’t there. And...her heart skipped a beat. No, he was too young, maybe two years younger than her son’s current age of 16.
The woman removed her hand. “No. I’m sorry. You’re not….you look like him, like Danny. So I thought….But you’re not...you’re not him.”
The boy’s shoulders fell and his eyes fixed down. The suddenly heartbroken, lonely look broke Maddie’s heart. “Oh. Then...who am I?”
The ghost hunter frowned at the question, her mind trying to form an answer. Who was this boy who looked like her Danny? Wait…. The words on his vitals display flashed in her mind. Clone number 6. Clone. “You’re a clone.” She blinked, mouth falling open. “You’re a clone of my son.”
The boy looked up, raising a brow. “What’s a clone?”
Maddie flushed at the question. It was so innocent. And his eyes, staring up at her like she had the answer to every question in the universe. “That’s...that’s complicated.” She glanced down, cheeks reddening in a sudden realization. “Let’s umm...let’s get you some clothes first.” The mother blushed for a moment. He’d been naked this whole time, while they’d been hugging and she had been comforting him.
“Clothes?” The boy tilted his head and the innocent confusion, the lack of embarrassment, just about killed Maddie. This looked like a teenager but obviously he wasn’t actually one.
The mother pushed the thought away, head surveying the room for something to cover the child with. She gaze fixed on something white hanging on one of the walls. Lab coats. Maddie started pushing herself to her feet.
The boy whimpered, grabbing her hand. “Don’t leave me.”
Maddie’s expression softened. “I’m not. I’m just going to get you something to wear.”
Shakily, she stood and walked across the lab. All the while, the woman could feel the eyes on the back of her head. But she ignored it, focusing on grabbing a coat. She pulled the white garment off the peg and quickly returned. Maddie then knelt down and held out the coat. The boy looked at it with no recognition as if he had no idea what to do with it. He probably didn’t.
“I can put it on you then. Hold out your arms.” Maddie instructed.
The boy, the clone, (this was a clone, a clone of her son. Her son. How? Why? What?). The clone did as she said and the woman dressed him as if he was a little child. (He probably was). The woman tried to smile comfortingly as she fastened the buttons. “There you go. All covered up.”
The boy looked at the sleeves curiously. They hung past his hands as the garment swallowed him. He waved his arms, watching the ends flap. The child laughed at the sight.
Maddie’s heart clenched at the child-like display. But then she turned her attention to the AI that had been silently watching the entire time. Standing, she scowled. “Is he a clone of my son?”
“Yes.” The MADDIE program replied. “Subject Number 6 is a clone of Daniel James Fenton.”
Maddie looked down again. Somehow, despite how impossible this was, that made perfect sense. The appearance was nearly identical, to perfect for strangers. And….she swallowed. Vlad had a sick fascination with her children, with Danny in particular. She knew the man fancied himself something of a godfather, with his pet names, presents, and advice. And Danny despised it, much more than any teenage boy should even if said godfather had a tendency to flirt with his mother.
The woman paled, all sorts of horrible idea coming into her head. What Vlad must want from Danny, what he must really want from her son. And to do the scientifically impossible? She shivered. Tests, experiments. She remembered the hybrid ghostly appearance, the ectoenergy flowing off of him. From some the ghostly disease? But… “Wait...you said that he was clone of Phantom earlier?”
The hologram’s response was cut off by a scream from the floor. Maddie’s eyes flicked down panickedly as the clone looked up at her. “My...my arm...it’s gone.”
The woman’s eyes just about popped out of her skull. His left sleeve with the hand and arm inside of it were gone. Maddie knelt down, reaching towards where the limb should be. Her hand hit something solid and chilly. She rapidly blinked. “It’s invisible. Your arm is invisible.” Panic rose in her. Ghostly abilities. There were ghostly abilities. He had ghost powers.
“Invisible?!” The boy shrieked.
Maddie’s heart clenched. That sounded just like Danny, her son when he was scared. The boy’s mouth was open with panic, his breath increasing. And all the woman could see was her son. Her son’s face, screwed up with panic and fear. It made her soul ache. She gently wrapped her hand around his invisible one. “It’s still there but you need to calm down. Breath with me. Like before. Okay. In and out.”
The boy copied her action once and his hand returned to visibility. He threw himself forward into her arms. Maddie returned the hug without hesitation. Then a breath later, cold swept over her. The body in her arms disappeared, turning into cold mist. Both the woman and the boy screamed as he turned intangible and fell through her.
Maddie rapidly stood, stepping back. What was happening?! On the floor, the boy returned to solidity, the slightly translucent appearance disappearing. He rolled onto his back, panting. The beeping of the monitor increased with his breathing as his face scrunched up fearfully.
Then a heartbeat later, just when Maddie thought she was done with surprises for tonight, something else stole the breath from her lungs. A white ring of light formed around the boy’s waist. It spread up and down his body and everything the light touched changed. The scientist blinked away the spots in her vision. And there, writhing on the floor with a panicked expression, was Phantom. Or...he looked like Phantom. White hair, black and white jumpsuit, panic filled green eyes.
It suddenly all hit Maddie like a tractor-trailer. He was a clone of Danny.. .and he was a clone of Phantom. Of Phantom. Danny...it clicked into place. Oh god, Danny’s accident with the portal. Him setting off all their equipment. His badly hidden injuries. Falling grades, skipping class, not sleeping. Oh god. Danny was Phantom. Danny Fenton was Danny Phantom. That...that was a pun, damnit. Of course her son would name himself after a pun. And… her eyes fixed on the boy on the floor. His face even stayed the same! No wonder Phantom avoided getting close to them!
In front of her, the clone was hyperventilating again. “What’s happening to me?!” He cried, tears welling in his eyes. His legs were fused into a ghostly tail which lashed in front of him.
The mother’s brain kicked into gear, her motherly instincts taking over again. She knelt down. “Sweetie. Sweetie. Calm down. I’m here.”
She grabbed his arm, intending to pull him into a sitting position but he was so light, as light as a balloon. With the slightest tug, he was pulled into the air, floated. Maddie pulled the ghost boy into her arms. She cupped the back of his head.
“What’s...what’s happening to me?” He cried again.
“I don’t know.” Maddie answered honestly. She had only the barest idea of what all was going on. But still... “I’ll figure it out. I’ll help you. You’re safe. I’m right here.”
The boy wiggled in her hold, crying into her shoulders. “I...I don’t understand. I don’t understand. Who...who am I? Who are you? Where are we?”
Maddie didn’t know. Or rather she didn't know how to answer those questions without making him more scared. She desperately wished she did know. She’d have to have a long conversation with Danny about him being Phantom and about what is actually going on between him and Vlad but for now...she hugged the boy tighter.
A long minute later, light passed over the clone again. He became heavy and warm in Maddie’s arms. His knees wobbled for a moment before steadying as Maddie held him up. “There, you’re doing it. You can stand.” His posture strengthened and the shaking stopped. Finally, the mother asked. “Do you think you can stand on your own?”
“I...I think so?” The boy said, uncertainly.
“Alright. I’m going to step away slowly. I’ll catch you if you start to fall.” Maddie reassured.
The child nodded as the woman backed away. He wobbled, tipping forward but the ghost hunter gently grabbed him. They stood, hands on each other's forearm for a long pause, until the boy steadied himself. He looked down at his feet, lifting one before putting it down and then doing the same with the opposite. Finally, he let go of Maddie’s arms. After hesitating, the mother did the same.
The boy studied her compassionate face, brow furrowed with deep thought. “Who are you...to me?”
Maddie considered, studying his face in kind. Her son’s face. A face so like her Danny’s. He was a clone, a clone of her son. Meaning...he was her own flesh and blood. Her lips pursed in thought. More importantly...he was a child. A confused, scared child who needed her help. And before she was a ghost hunter and scientist, Maddie was and would always be a mother.
“I’m your mother.” She said without hesitation, smiling. “Your mom.”
“Mom?” The boy asked, testing out the word.
Maddie nodded, reaching forward and gently whipping one of his tears away with her thumb. “I’m your mom.”
The child smiled, his eyes lighting up like that was the most wonderful thing he had ever heard. It very well could be. “Mom.” The word rang out with so many emotions, with some much love that Maddie’s heart swelled. The boy stepped forward hugging her again.
The mother ran her finger through his hair. “Yes baby. I’m here to take you home."
“You will take him away from here, then?” A staticy voice asked, beside the pair.
Maddie turned, pulling away to look at the AI. Beside her, the clone tilted his head as he looked between the two but didn’t ask.
The scientist nodded. “Yes. I think I understand why you called me now.” Of course she did. This was an AI made to copy her, something of a digital clone. If Maddie was in her place, she would not so easily agree to whatever Vlad had planned. She would not leave a child here to be experimented on. And as the MADDIE programs 'original’, for lack of a better word, she wasn’t exactly an outsider and therefore a loophole.
The hologram nodded. “I will disable the microchip then.” A light on the monitor blinked out and the beeping of the heart monitor stopped. The AI then turned to the computer. She pointed to a flash drive plugged into one of the ports. “That contains all research data. Take it with you.”
Maddie obeyed, taking the drive. The AI winked. “Excellent. Delete all research data. Command alpha-06-gamma-58-epsilon.”
There was a loud dial tone and the computer fritzed, the monitor wavering until a blue screen reading ‘System Deletion’ in large print was displayed.
Maddie raised a brow, impressed at the AI.
Then the clone asked. “What about you? Are you coming with us?”
The program shook her head. “No dear. I am not like you. My purpose is served.” The AI turned to deliberately look at Maddie. “Number 6 has been saved.”
The boy frowned at the statement as did the mother, considering the statement and the depth of it. She didn’t know what to make of it except...it almost felt like one mother was handing off her son to another.
“Go on.” The MADDIE program encouraged. "You may go out the way you came and I will lock the doors behind you." She frowned. "I will distract dearest for as long as I can."
Maddie wrinkled her nose in disgust. "I suppose you can't just call him Vlad?"
"No." The AI almost sounded annoyed. "My programming is most inconvenient."
The ghost hunter nodded in understanding. Then she turned to face the clone. "Come on then sweetie." She wrapped one arm around the boy and started leading him towards the door. Before passing through, the women turned back to face the hologram. "Thank you."
The corner of MADDIE program's lip turned up as she offered an accepting nod. The pair then turned back towards the still open door. The clone wobbled slightly, progressing slowly as he gained more confidence. Maddie carefully stepped across the threshold with the boy still at her side. Once they were in the tunnel, a gap sounded from beside her.
"What is it?" The mother glanced to the side, eyes wide with concern.
"The ground's cold." The boy muttered.
"Oh." Maddie looked down. "You're not wearing any shoes." She'd have to get him some once they got home and some proper clothes. "Just step carefully, okay? Actually…." With her free hand, she pulled out her flashlight and shone it on the bare ground in front of them. "There."
The pair advanced carefully, Maddie helping the boy to clumsily climb up the ladder. They crossed the greenhouse and the mother pulled the boy along as he eagerly studied their surroundings.
"It smells nice in here." The clone commented, sniffing the air.
"It does." Maddie agreed.
Arriving at the door, she finally opened it and the two found themselves in the open air. The boy suddenly stopped, looking down.
He hummed in the back of his throat, pleased. "I like the grass under my feet." Maddie looked down to find the kid wiggling his toes. Then there was an awed whisper. "Wow. Are those the stars?"
The mother looked up again to find him staring up at the sky in wonder. Maddie smiled. "Yes, they are. Aren't they beautiful?"
"Yeah." He breathed.
Maddie let him look up in awe, as she herself marveled. She couldn't help but be reminded of Danny's love of the stars. But even with the resemblance, he was a different person from her Danny, wasn't he? She could already see little difference. This child-like wonder was something she hadn’t seen in her son very often now. But still she wondered. This clone seemed to know the words for things. He could speak clearly and had good coordination all things considered. How was that even remotely possible? And yet he still had the air of someone who had never seen the world before, like every was new. Because it likely was.
With that, Maddie cut off her musing. "Come on sweetie. We need to keep going."
The mother hated cutting off his exploration, especially as his expression fell. But the boy nodded anyway, taking a step forward. The pair continued, cutting across the yard, into the trees, and to the car. Maddie clicked the fob to unlock the vehicle. She guided the boy to the car, opened the passenger's side door, and helped him sit. The mother then walked around and opened the driver's side door and sat down herself.
Maddie turned to find the clone looking at his seat belt curiously. She reached over. "Here let me help you." She buckled him in.
The boy hummed, fidgeting in his seat while Maddie buckled herself in. She put the key in the ignition and started the engine. Instantly, the radio started, a song from their local eighties station broadcasting through. The clone flinched at the sudden sound before relaxing.
He turned, looking at the woman with wide eyes. "What's that?"
Maddie smiled. "It's music."
"Right. Music." The boy nodded. He tilted his head, listening to the song. After a moment, his head bobbed in time. "I think I like music." He hummed along, wiggling in his seat.
It made Maddie want to laugh so she did. She chuckled as she put the car into drive and pulled away. She turned into the road and started driving back towards Fentonworks. The song ended just as they pulled up at a red light.
The clone turned to face her. "Where are we going?"
She looked at him out the corner of her eye. "We're going home, like I said earlier."
He nodded. "Right yeah. I remember that." He hummed. "What will we do when we get there?"
Maddie paused, considering the question. "Well...we’ll talk to your dad and your….Danny and Jazz….and we’ll figure all of this out.”
She’d hesitated for a moment, thinking to refer to Danny and Jazz as his brother and sister. But Maddie had no idea how they’d take this. Hopefully well. Those two were good kids but living with a clone of yourself….Maddie could hardly imagine. At least Jack would be eager and welcoming. She knew her husband well enough to be sure….Oh boy, she really should have told him something about all of this before she’d left.
"All of this….you mean the….clone thing and…" He bit his lip. "The flashing light and the floating and disappearing and falling through things?"
"Ghost powers." Maddie said, brow furrowing. "You have ghost powers. As far as I can tell, you're some kind of ghost human hybrid? Not that I knew that was possible until less than an hour ago…." She frowned. "Nor did I know you existed."
The boy frowned, looking worried. His lips pursed. "So...you don't know what my name is then, do you?”
Maddie's heart fell. In front of them, the light turned green. The woman turned back, removing her foot off the gas. The car pulled away before the mother pulled into a parking lot.
She took a deep breath, the impossibleness of the situation hitting her. She was sitting in her car with a clone of her son. A clone that she’d found in the secret laboratory below Vlad Master’s greenhouse. A human-ghost hybrid clone of her son who was also a hybrid. She had another son now. A son who she now had to tell that she didn't know his name, because he likely didn't have one yet.
Maddie put a comforting hand on his arm. “I’m sorry.” She gently apologized. “You’re right. I don’t know. And sadly….” She took a deep breath. “And I know this will be hard to hear but...all I know is that hologram called you Number 6 and...that’s not exactly a name, is it? ”
His lip quivered, eyes starting to water. “But….that’s….”
The mother took his hands and squeezed it. “That will change. Your father and I can pick out a name for you; that’s what parents normally do for their children. Or….if you have something in mind, we’ll happily call you that.”
The clone looked down, biting his lip in consideration. “I’ll...I’ll think about it.”
Maddie’s face softened. “Alright sweetie.”
He turned his head up, blinking at her. “Sweetie? Can that be my name?”
The question was asked so innocently that Maddie couldn’t help but laugh. “No. That’s a pet name. I call all my kids that.”
“Oh.” He blushed in embarrassment. “Well that’s...at least, that means I’m one of your kids.”
The mother nodded her head. “Yes, of course. You’re my son.” It should have been surprising how much her heart swelled with love at the statement but well….Maddie had made up her mind. This was her son. Not Vlad Masters’ experiment. Not just Danny’s clone. Her son and Vlad was not taking him away from her.
They would have a lot to figure out. A name for this boy. His complete origin as a clone. How to deal with having a third child, one who’d just appeared overnight. They’d have to deal with the implications of her revelation that Danny was Phantom. And Vlad...what he’d done was horrible. He’d stolen blueprints and her son’s DNA. He’d experimented on a human or...humans. She internally frowned; he was clone number 6. Did that mean that there had been five others?
Either way, Vlad was deplorable. There, in the depth of his lab, below something as innocuous and normal as his greenhouse, Maddie had discovered that and the true depth of his obsession with her and her family. And now she knew, Vlad needed to be stopped. He needed to be punished. But what exactly to do with him, considering how taking him down would likely expose Danny’s identity as Phantom? Yes, they had a lot to deal with but….
Maddie leaned forward to kiss her new son’s forehead. “You have a family now. And a home. And everything else we’ll figure out together.”
A soft smile crept across his face. “I like how that sounds.”
“Good.” Maddie smiled. “Now...are you ready to go meet the rest of your family?”
“Yeah.” He squeezed the hand still holding hers. “I’m ready Mom.”
good girls don't get used: michael langdon x fem! reader
—♡—
READ PART 2 HERE
summary: michael langdon, your ex, falls into a bet wherein he has to (fake) date you. if he falls in love again, he loses and doesn't get the prize.
warnings: private school au, fuckboy!michael, slight mention of sexual topics + i didnt proofread this mwahaha
this fic is inspired by the song 'good girls (don't get used)' by beach bunny.
i don't know if other private schools have bells, because mine doesn't :(
italicized bold words are direct lyrics from the song. but in this chapter, there are none since this is like an intro :)
—♡—
"Dude, shut the fuck up."
"Are you kidding? She really said that?"
"You really think that's gonna happen?"
"Who's class do you have first?"
Voices of different students flooded the white and grey hallways of the school. Different friend groups and teachers can be seen roaming the halls, getting stuff from their respective lockers as they waited for the bell to ring.
"Y/N! Do you mind if I borrow your calculator? I forgot mine at home and Math is my next class." She said while panting.
"Sure, here it is. If you lose it, I'd probably drop kick your ass." Y/N let out a small laugh and grabbed the calculator from her locker, giving it to her friend.
"Gosh, Y/N. I'll never lose it! I'll give it back during recess. Thanks again!" She flashed Y/N a smile and waved bye, before returning to her locker.
Y/N looked at herself in the mirror she had on her locker, fixing the tie that always seemed to be out of place whenever she checked. Her hair was neat, complete with a white headband that complimented the color of her school's uniform.
A few seconds later, the bell rang and everybody started rushing. Different couples were seen kissing before they parted ways for the mean time.
Cringe. Y/N thought. She shrugged it off and held her books tightly to her chest, walking to her next class.
Walking straight into the classroom, she noticed a group of guys dart their eyes to her direction as she entered. They gave her weird smirks. In return, she stared back at them while she made her way to her seat and never broke eye contact. Eventually, she noticed a familiar face among the group.
Michael, her ex.
How the fuck is he in my English class? She thought, along with a whole hundred thoughts roaming around her head. Michael stared back at her, giving her a wink.
Y/N's face gave a hint of disgust, "The fuck do you want, Langdon?" She stood up from her seat and walked over to Michael, pushing his other friends. She heard his friends coo and tease Michael for his act towards her.
Michael put up his hands in defense, "Chill, is it bad to wink at a pretty girl like you?" He said with a smug look, while he grazed his hand over her arm.
"Shut the fuck up, Langdon. Don't you ever touch me." Y/N slapped his hand away, his friends taken aback from her actions. As she walked back to her seat, the teacher entered as well.
Y/N put her face in her hands. By now, a million thoughts were in her head. It's been 2 years since Michael and her broke up, and since then, she made a promise to herself that she would never fall in love with men like him. She was so tired of all the tears and sleepless nights that Michael gave her.
She let out a sigh and lifted her head from her hands. The soft light from the windows filled her eyes after the darkness formed by her hands, causing her to rub her eyes to adjust from the light.
The rest of the hour went smoothly for Y/N, after English class was recess, her most favorite time of the day— aside from going home, of course.
She glanced at her watch, 10:28 AM.
2 more minutes, and English will be over. She thought.
She averted her gaze back on the white board full of scribbles about some writing lesson she clearly did not listen to. She looked over to her classmates and friends, Well they aren't listening either. She laughed at the thought.
As soon at the bell rang, everyone started packing up their notebooks, textbooks, and whatever they had on their table. Every student was seen rushing out of every classroom in hopes of being the first ones in line for the cafeteria.
On the way there, Y/N bumped into her friend group. "Hey Y/N! We heard about happened in English class. Michael is really in your class?" A friend of hers mentioned, "Yea, and apparently that son of a bitch winked at me, such a disgusting ass motherfucker. he should keep his fuck boy ass to himself." Y/N spat out, earning a chorus of 'oh's' from her friends.
When they arrived at the cafeteria, the line was painfully long, all of them groaned in frustration and they had no choice but to wait for the line to move. But once it did, it was faster than usual. After Y/N and her friends received their food, they left the cafeteria to eat at their usual place.
The school rooftop.
A few students know that staying in the school rooftop is permitted, which was why Y/N and her friends loved eating there.
When they arrived at the rooftop, they saw the usual people that they always encounter while staying there. The view was beautiful, there was no doubt about it. The small garden in the rooftop gave a beautiful and elegant touch.
Though there were a few chairs and tables, Y/N and her friends always preferred to eat on the floor. So, they laid the linen cloth on the ground and sat on it. Y/N was wearing the skirt uniform, thus she removed her tux and placed it on her legs to prevent her skirt from lifting.
They shared a few giggles while they ate their meals, laughing about some life experiences, or whatever they wanted to talk about.
Y/N loved this. She loved how she and her friends would have little moments like these, it was like an escape from reality.
The rest of the day went smoothly for Y/N. She didn't fall asleep in any of her classes, which in this case was a very big accomplishment for her.
As soon as she arrived home, her little brother, Aaron, rushed towards her. "Y/N!! I missed you!" He chimed, Y/N kneeled down onto his level and gave him the tightest hug. "I missed you too, Aaron!" Her mom came into the room and smiled. Y/N stood up and gave her mom a hug as well.
"How was school?" Her mom asked, Y/N placed her tux on the coat hanger by the door. "It was fine, Mom. Where's Dad?" Y/N walked over to the fridge and poured herself a glass of milk, "He'll be home soon, he still has a meeting right now." She took a sip of her milk, "Oh, okay. I'll be upstairs doing school work." The glass of milk that was once full, now empty.
She took her things upstairs and plopped herself on the bed. Out of nowhere she felt a vibrating noise from her bag, she rummaged through her bag to find her phone and once she did, a message was see on her lockscreen.
Unknown Sender has sent you a message.
She unlocked her phone and went to her messages.
Unknown Sender: hey ;)
Her eyebrows furrowed. What the fuck?
(Y/N): hi? whos this?
read 2:29 pm
Unknown Sender: oh shit you deleted my number? damn.
"Huh? I don't recall deleting anyone's number..." She went to her recently deleted contacts and it showed nothing.
(Y/N): im sorry, i haven't deleted anyone's number recently, maybe you have the wrong number?
read 2:32 pm
Unknown Sender: im pretty sure you know me, Y/N.
They know my name. And her heart started pounding.
(Y/N): and im pretty sure i dont, so just reveal yourself before i report this number
read 2:35pm
Unknown Sender: ayo chill 😬 its me michael.
"Michael fucking Langdon? You've got to be fucking me right now." She felt rage fill her, slamming her keyboard.
(Y/N): langdon what the fuck do you want? i made it very clear that i dont want you talking to me.
read 2:40 pm
Before Michael could reply, she changed his contact name to 'Motherfucker'
You have changed Unknown Sender's contact name as 'Motherfucker'
Motherfucker: damn you still mad at me after 2 years? gosh (Y/N). whats with the nickname?
(Y/N): of course im still mad, asshole. ill never forget what you fucking did.
read 2:43 pm
Motherfucker: i thought you forgave me 🥺
(Y/N): FORGIVE YOU???? god langdon you're so fucking stupid, i will never forgive you. you didnt even say sorry in the first place!
Pissed off, Y/N blocked his number. "That fucking asshole." She mumbled to herself.
—
"Hey! Y/N!" A familar voice called out from the crowd. Y/N removed one earbud and turned around to find the voice that called her.
Once she saw the shiny blonde locks from that stood out in the crowd, she immediately ran in the opposite direction in hopes of avoiding him.
It was Michael, again.
"Y/N wait!" Michael called out again, chasing her
For some reason, Michael was able to catch her. He pulled Y/N into an empty science laboratory and they were both panting.
"What the fuck do you want this time, Langdon?" Y/N was catching her breath, fanning herself with her hand.
"Okay. First off, sorry for the sudden message. I know I pissed you off and that wasn't my intention at a—"
"What was your intention then?" She cut him off.
Michael panicked.
"Uh, you know? I just wanna talk to you again. Clear the bad air between us.."
Y/N let out a laugh, "Clear the bad air?? Oh gooood Langdon, you are really so stupid! You know what? You just made it worse." She pushed him off and walked out of the room,
"Whatever it is your planning, Langdon, I'm telling to stop it. I don't wanna talk to you or even go near you."
Michael was dumbfounded. She changed so much. He thought to himself.
2 years ago, Y/N was the sweetest, most innocent girl he knew. Playing with her feelings was Michael's biggest regret, and he's starting to feel it again.
Michael was about to leave the room until he felt a buzzing from his pocket, He pulls out his phone to see who was calling him.
Duncan, one of his bestfriends.
Michael answered the call, "Hello?"
"What's the update on your little girl?"
"She still doesn't trust me."
"That's sad man."
"I know. She changed alot. "
"What do you mean by 'changed'?" Duncan emphasized,
"I can't point it out, Dunc."
"Whatever you do, don't chicken out. I promise this bet is worth it."
"Fine, I trust you."
Call Ended.
Michael ran his fingers through his hair in frustration and left the room before the bell rang.
—
It was the last subject of the day. Most students were falling asleep or on their phones.
Y/N was scribbling weird things on the back of her notebook, when suddenly the bell rang. She packed up her stuff and stood up from her seat. Before she could leave the room, she saw a familiar face again.
Michael stood by the doorway of her classroom, the strap of his bag over one shoulder while he looked for Y/N among the other students.
Y/N ignored Michael and walked past him, but he grabbed her by the arm and pulled her towards him.
"Langdon! What the fuck do you want?!" She screamed, all of the students averting their attention to her.
Michael put a finger on his lips, shushing her. "Let's go somewhere private, yea?"
"But—"
Before she could object, Michael dragged her outside towards the parking lot.
"Okay this is actually something serious—"
"CUT THE SHIT LANGDON! IM TIRED OF YOU."
"Woah‐woah! Easy now. I actually need your help, with school..."
Michael rubbed her shoulders, looking straight into her eyes. For once, Y/N believed him. His eyes were speaking the truth.
"Okay, fine. Shoot."
"I can't believe I'm saying this.."
"Don't waste my time, Langdon."
"Fine! I'm failing."
Y/N's mouth hung open. Michael was one of the top students in their batch and this was obviously a huge surprise for her.
"Oh, really? What am I gonna do about that?" She crossed her arms and cocked her head to the side.
"Can you please help me? Like, tutor me?" At this point, Michael was desperate.
"Um, no thanks. Just fuck some other girl's pussy for your grades." Y/N pushed him away, but Michael stopped her again.
"I'm serious, Y/N. I really need your help."
"Why me?"
Now that made Michael nervous.
"Because you happen to be the top of our batch right now?"
"Fine! Under one condition."
Michael was curious, "What?"
"If I do this tutor shit, we're doing it at my place. I can't tutor you in your messy ass room." Y/N said. She always remembered how messy Michael's room was when they were together. He would only clean when he was scolded by Y/N.
"That's fine by me."
"Okay then. 5pm, sharp."
She walked away, but Michael pulled her again.
"Let me go! What do you want now?" Y/N said, clearly annoyed.
"Unblock my number, silly." Michael chuckled,
"No."
"How are you supposed to know if I already arrived?"
"Theres a doorbell, dimwit. I'll be downstairs waiting for you."
"Bu—"
"Bye, Michael. I'll see you later." Y/N flashed him a small smile and continued to walk away.
Once he saw Y/N reach the bus stop, he started walking to his car, until someone tapped him on his shoulder.
"Hey Michael, whats the update? I saw you talking to her." It was Duncan. His brown hair was lightly gelled back and the first two buttons of his white dress shirt were undone.
"I'm still trying to win her back, I lied to her that I was failing so she could tutor me. That way, it'll be easier."
Duncan smirked, "That's my boy! When will this tutor thing start?"
"Later, 5pm."
"Hmm, that's good. Remember, if you fall in love again, bet's over."
"I won't."
Not me ugly crying at Ghostbusters: Afterlife because of how wrong everybody did Egon.
(I mean I was prepared to be maybe a little teary at the beginning because he was always my favourite ghostbuster, and I’ve always known from the trailers that they used Ramis’ and thus Spengler’s death as a plot point to hang the ‘next generation’ angle on. Since a passing the torch angle was what Ackroyd had been trying to pitch even before the wasted all-female reboot, but fuck did they go tragic hero on the back plot.)
Also 12-year-old me was like 1000% Phoebe, and I hope they do end up doing a future film where she and Podcast become ghostbusters because they are awesome.
Spoilers under cut (because I am about to go on a whole rant about why I am never going to forgive Ray Stanz, and how none of us deserve the superhuman courage and internal strength of Egon Spengler)
He sacrificed everything, literally everything, to save the world.
He gave up respect and his good name. The whole town thought he was some lunatic to be laughed at to the point that they just kept on making jokes about his ‘weird’ habits to his child and grand-children when they showed up after his death. And maybe that didn’t upset his daughter because she was so angry at him for being absent, but they didn’t know that, and it clearly did upset Phoebe. How much disrespect do you have to have for a man just because you don’t understand him to talk shit about him after he’s dead to his own family? He probably partially cultivated that persona to keep people away to protect them because the farm was dangerous for multiple reasons.
He had to give his family. His daughter hated him, he never got to know his grandkids, which is doubly sad because Phoebe is so much like him. The unknown wife probably wasn’t a big fan of his either, and all of this feels even sadder because Egon was clearly not a person who was comfortable with romantic or sexual relationships. He was likely somewhere on the autistic spectrum as well, but I had always assumed he was an aroace; so for him to have found someone that he wanted to pursue some form of relationship with, gotten married and had a child, that’s not an insignificant thing for him to have sacrificed. And those people didn’t trust him. (Presumably Callie didn’t know one way or another, only that he left. But one would expect that his wife would have known who he was, what he’d done for a living, how he’d saved New York City from very real supernatural shit. And it’s unclear whether he said anything about why he was going to Oklahoma and didn’t want her or Callie to come and she didn’t believe or trust him either or he didn’t because he was unable to trust in her to do so because no one else did. Both versions are incredibly sad and it doesn’t seem like she ever told Callie anything other than that he had abandoned them to go be mentally ill on a farm because she seemed to know nothing about the man he had been. ) It’s also very clear how much of a sacrifice this was for him.
And in the end, he sacrificed his life, and died alone. This is the most gut-rending thing of all, because not only did he die having to shoulder the enormity of trying to save the world again all by himself, but because he almost certainly died because he was forced to fight for the world alone. That no one believed him, that his friends and coworkers, the men who had all gone through not just the experience with Gozer, but also Vigo with him would turn their backs on him. And even more than that, that Ray Stanz would call him crazy and turn him away. That is the greatest betrayal of all, because of everyone Ray is the one person who is more likely to believe in this shit without even the greatest amount of backing evidence, whereas as an actual man of science, there is no way that Spengler would be convinced of something like this without an extremely strong case, and yet Stanz just fucking turned his back on him.
(And sure after Phoebe called, he brought Venkman and Zedmore to the climactic scene to help save the day and make sure that Egon’s sacrifice wasn’t for nothing, but that wouldn’t have been necessary if he hadn’t left him to rot by himself.) He died because it was never a one person job. He had to give up his family because he couldn’t keep them safe by himself and if even his closest friends and fellow experts didn’t believe him how would there be any hope of average people doing so. Because he gave up his family Callie, Trevor, and Phoebe were never going to be able to defeat Gozer by themselves because they didn’t have the experience or any of the knowledge of how to truly solve the problem. Phoebe had what 3 days of busting under her belt and only 1 ghost on top of being 12. )
All this means that when you really look at it, Egon did all this knowing that he was sacrificing everything and condemning himself to buy some limited amount of time for the world and knowing that without anyone else to help or to carry on that work he could never really save the world either. Instead he resigned himself to it because he couldn’t bear not to do what little he could to give others and his family the world as long as he could and maybe hope that someone would believe him and help before it was too late.
As for the others showing up to save the day, (or spare Egon’s ghost from having to literally face the futility of his sacrifice to save his family from the end of times) this is probably why this scene feels forced and a little flat, because of course the other 3 have to show up to save the day, do their little cameo and say goodbye to Ramis and Egon’s ghost, because it’s expected by fans and because the plot has forced it to maintain enough realism to buy the stakes. It is touching, but at the same time, Murray doesn’t even seem fully in Venkman and Ackroyd feels stiff, Stanz less contrite or affected by the truth than he should. Oddly Ernie Hudson doesn’t just sell that he is still 100% in ltune with his character after all these years, but he makes Zedmore the only one who feels like they spent any time contemplating the mistake they made in turning their back on Egon and what that cost him. The others never really feel like they understand that they kind of aren’t the heroes for just showing up making referential quips and avenging their fallen comrade after having been one of the reasons he needed avenging for n the first place.
Janine kind of confuses me because she clearly stuck with Egon and was supportive, but also seems to have thought him mad and didn’t even really try to intervene or defend him to the family when they show up to claim the farm. Even so this makes her a better person and friend than the other 3 ghostbusters.
Out of the fictional universe of film this was probably the best plot device to make a third movie and create an opening to carry it forward into the future if they decide to given that Harold died and that limits what they can do, but in universe holy shit does it make you just want to punch people on Egon’s behalf. Like I am never going to forgive Ray Stanz.
#ghostbusters afterlife#ghostbusters#egon but not forgotten#egon my beloved#ray stantz#winston zeddemore#peter venkman#I will never forgive you Ray Stanz#we do not deserve Egon Spengler#I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to actually rant about this
I'm Glad You're Alright (Albedo x Reader)
An experiment goes wrong and you wake up days later. Your boyfriend, Albedo, is assessing you after the incident.
(Request from a personal friend)
I'm Glad You're Alright
Albedo x Reader
...
A darkness rests, the figures hovering over you in a frantic hurry as the world around you shifts around, arranging itself to make sense and clear the fog from in front of your eyes. It was most certainly a peculiar instance, the strange lack of clarification in the confusion of everything that had been occurring around you.
All you know is that you had just woken up.
That, and something was terribly wrong.
A familiar face hovered in front of you, retrieved by someone else who you hadn’t had enough awareness to identify. His blonde hair swept down towards you, his face in it’s usual expression of calculation. He was talking, but the words weren’t registering… the mindful mumbling from his mouth relating to your condition. You just reached out your hand from under your blanket and found the motion unusually stiff, but grabbed his hand nonetheless.
He paused for a moment, eyes wandering over to it as if the motion was a strange one to make, then shifted his hand to hold yours too. The words started to make sense to you… He was checking your condition.
“And what were you thinking, trying to pull off such a feat. You must’ve been aware of all the potential side effects of such a formula.” Albedo lays the back of his hand against your forehead. “You were passed out for days.”
“Albedo? I… What do you mean?” He instantly stopped his unclear mumbling, looking down and gazing into your eyes for just a moment before moving his hand to your cheek.
“The first word you utter when you wake up from days of being unconscious is my name.” There’s a momentary smile that peaks through his calculations, and then it falters again, his eyes clouding with a seriousness. “Good, your memory is working then. What is the last thing you remember?”
A standard question. He’s impatient for your answer, eyes flickering between yours as you realize that recalling it isn’t as easy as it maybe should be.
“I… I was doing an experiment… and…” Your memory was fuzzy at best. “I don’t…” You didn’t want to finish that sentence, it was a terrible thing for you to say. “I don’t quite… recall… anything that might have occurred after that.”
“Hmm.” He hummed. He quickly stood up, parting from you as the door had a quiet knock on it again. When he returned from the door with a bucket and a cloth, you knew that your condition must have been bad.
“I didn’t mean to worry you. Please, I’m sorry. Forgive me.” You want to grab his spare hand and pull him back to you, to hug him and apologise for whatever trouble you might have caused. “I thought it would be a good test.” A quiet sigh left him as he knelt beside you again, placing the bucket aside.
“Indeed, it might have been. The issue lies in the fact that you decided not only to test the experiment on yourself, but to also give no warning to anyone else.” He fetched up a small towel from the bucket of ice water beside you, wrenching the water from it before gently running the cloth over your face.
“You do that all the time!”
“It’s different. I am in full capacity of my calculations and my science. If something could kill me, I wouldn’t take it.” He shook his head. “You, on the other hand, did not properly assess the dangers, and thus you’ve landed yourself here.” He sighed. “Do you know that the small fragments of slime condense that you added were all it took to incapacitate you for three days? You should have known that it would react negatively with-“
“I know, Albeido.” You interrupt. “I just thought-“
“And you were wrong.”
“I know!” You snap. He looks slightly taken aback, and his gaze rests firmly on yours. You falter. “You don’t have to tell me that.” Your words are in a huff, though less harsh than before.
There’s a moment where the air is still. His eyes are baring into you - not anger or calculation, just the sheer blankness that accompanied perplexity. You feel queasy for a moment, as if you could fall back into your coma. Sound itself seems to fade as you link eyes, watching each other. It gives a feeling that not even science can explain.
“I see.” Albedo breaks the silence, peering down and away from your eyes. He leans over you, a hand running through your hair and then resting on your cheek as his expression settles. His eyes return to you for a moment, and then he leans down to leave a kiss on your other cheek. “I’m glad you’re safe.”
You place your hand over his. You know that he’s frustrated with you but that that’s all that it really is: He’s worried about you. And maybe he doesn’t really understand why you got annoyed at him.
“Next time I’ll let you know before I do anything like this.” You insist with a quiet voice. “Someone, at least.” You feel a strange sense of dejection when he doesn’t respond right away. “I’m okay now. I’m sorry that I worried you.”
He silently watches you, then leans down and plants a soft kiss on your lips. “It’s alright. You’re unlikely to repeat such a mistake.” The air around you stood still, allowing for the two of you to just stare into each other’s eyes, a simple connection. “Just be careful, alright?”
“Of course.” You insist. “I don’t want you to worry about me when you have to go away.”
He looks away again, taking a spare piece of paper from a log of your condition that he was writing up. He doesn’t share his thoughts with you, but you can tell that he wouldn’t want you to know anyway. You let him sit beside you, grabbing his spare hand as he balances the clipboard against his leg, facing you. It’s a subtle inconvenience to him, but it’s also a way of showing you that he’s there, and that he loves you.
a/n: (◞‸◟;) i haven’t written angst but idk if this was good or not
Everything seemed so perfect. It was almost as if your relationship was the cliché movie. Together for nearly five years now, you had fallen in love with the best person you could've ever met.
The room was filled with the aroma of your cooking. The sunset shining through the window letting the warmth of the day in as it fades into night. You had your favorite playlist playing as you danced around the kitchen.
You carefully finished plating your dinner for you and your boyfriend as you heard the front door open. "I'm home," Akaashi sighed. You smiled as you approached the door to greet him.
"Hi baby, I made dinner," You gleamed.
"I'm not hungry," Akaashi dismissed. With a small frown, you attempt to try again.
"Well, maybe you could just try a little bit? I spent all day cooking us dinner and-" You rambled.
"We need to talk," He cuts you off, looking at you with tired eyes. A sting in your chest rung after hearing those words.
"What's wrong Keiji?" You tilted your head stepping closer, reaching out to touch his chest. He takes a step back before scratching the back of his neck. "Oh..."
"I just...think we should..." Akaashi trailed.
"Should?" You held your hands together, itching for some type of contact.
"We should break up," He said, ripping off the bandaid. Your eyes widened at his voice, not wanting to know why.
"B- but we're fine- why?" You started. "Am I doing too much? Did I do something wrong? Keiji, I can do better- Just why do you-"
"It's not you," He stopped you. "I..."
You felt the tears run down your cheeks. His hand reaches to wipe them off but retracts knowing it's for the better. "But...I thought you loved me?" You sobbed silently.
"There will always be love for you in my heart, I promise, Y/n," He explained. His heart was beginning to ache at the sight of your cries. Akaashi hated seeing you hurt, even more so if he was the cause. "I...I'm falling in love with someone else. I can't put you in a situation where I'm in love with another when I'm with you...I'm sorry."
You remained quiet as Akaashi rambled on trying to explain himself. Words of not wanting to hurt you laced with apologies of finding another. Suddenly the streetlights now illuminating through the blinds were the only thing you could see.
Akaashi dragged on his apologies to you, almost as if it's a chant. He observed how you had fallen silent and tried to reach out for comfort. You looked up at him before looking around the room. Dinner was getting cold, your anniversary photos meaning nothing now and where you stood was where he promised to marry you one day.
"I...I'll get my things out by the end of the week," Your voice cracked. Akaashi stopped his repeated sorry's, his eyes carefully watching you.
"W-wait, y-you're leaving? Y/n, I can leave, it's not your fault. I-" Akaashi started. He watched you walk past him, grabbing your car keys. You slipped on your shoes without a word before turning to leave. Your hand froze at the doorknob as you hesitated to leave. Wiping away your tears, you grabbed the handle, pulling open the door to walk out.
It's been nearly a month since it happened. You had sat at the window seat of the café with your laptop open to your work schedule. You let out a sigh wanting to take a break from the screen. Peering outside you noticed a familiar face. A hyper pro-athlete bouncing around his old third-year friends. You smiled at the sight of Bokuto, wanting to go out and say hi until you saw them.
Akaashi had walked hand in hand with his new girlfriend, smiling bigger than you've ever seen him before. The grin on your face fell taking notice of every bit of his new partner. Picking her apart as if it were a science experiment.
"Damn, that's her?" Your work husband, Souma, says breaking you out of your thoughts.
"Huh?" You say, grabbing the drink out of his hand.
"The girl your ex replaced you with," He said bluntly. You reached beside you and pinched his nose before turning to look back at her. "She's pretty."
"She is...I bet she's nice too," You huffed. You looked back at your laptop, clicking out the tab. "Okay, back to work."
"You do know you're not fooling anyone," Souma leaned over to rest his head on your shoulder. "You can be sad, it's only been a month."
"Yes, I know. I am sad but...I have to be strong right?" You sighed. "He's probably really happy. That's what I want for him."
"But not happier than with you, hm?" He pokes.
"What?" You ask, not peeling your eyes from the screen.
"You know, when you were together, you'd say some eternal love bullshit," He mocked. "What happened to he's the one person who makes you have butterflies in your stomach? And if we ever broke up you'd never recover? That kinda shit."
"He was the one who said shit like that first of all. I guess he never meant it. Souma, can we please stop talking about it?" You started to type out your report. "Yeah, yeah, I'm heartbroken but this project is due tomorrow."
"Okay whatever you say, Ms. Shattered Heart," He lifts up his hands in fake surrender before leaning back into your ear. "Oh, by the way, he's coming into the café." He whispered.
Your eyes widen before shutting them quickly. You take a deep breath, taking the urge to not look at the door. Souma shrugs, wanting to see a bigger reaction before opening his own laptop.
Bokuto leads Konoha, Komi, Akaashi and his girlfriend to the line of the café. "So then, Atsumu ended up- Oh? Y/n!" Bokuto stops his story noticing the back of your head. He steps out of line to tap your shoulder.
"Oh, hi Bo," You turned slowly. "Good to see you...You guys too." You gestured towards the group. Akaashi's previous smile fell once he saw you.
"How are you?" Bo smiled. It took a beat for him to realize how awkward the situation was, making his grin fade.
"Good, good...How are you guys?" You cringed.
"We're...okay," Akaashi said, softly. His eyes took notice of how different you looked. Darker circles under your eyes, your hair messily done compared to your usual do, and just how tired you looked. Almost as if you gave up on taking care of yourself.
"Y/n and I were just leaving-" Souma interrupted. He noticed your hand grip tightly on your chair before speaking up. He closes both your laptops and goes to put them away in his bag. "It was nice seeing you guys, but Y/n and I have some work to do."
You hesitated but nodded along with your coworker as you grabbed your coffee. You gestured to the group once getting out of your seat. The two of you quickly walked out, Souma guiding you to his parked car.
Akaashi's girlfriend excused herself to the restroom, giving him an opportunity. He exits the café, jogging over to you and Souma. "I'm sorry," He pants, stopping a few feet away from you. "Y/n, I'm sorry."
No words left your mouth as you looked up at him. Tears had already fallen from your eyes the second you walked out. Akaashi's chest ached to see you in this state. "Forgive me, I- I'm sorry for hurting you," He begged.
"Take care of her, okay?" You smiled, your heart is torn into pieces once again. "Make her happy."
NO NEED TO READ. I’m just venting 👍
Tw: suicide mentions and stuff
So I can’t give details bc protecting privacy of minors and my family who doesn’t know I have a tumblr or anything etc etc but I was right in suspecting that the adults back home don’t tell me anything non-great going on and G is having a way worse time than I was made aware of and as usual no one is doing ENOUGH and what’s being done is late and I’m like I just—I was TRYING to tell adults for FOUR YEARS and especially the last two of them and no one LISTENED until it was unavoidable and I STILL didn’t get anyone listening to my advice about things and I don’t have any way to make a difference but I swear to god if this goes on for another year or four the kid is going to kill himself. Like they are giving him NOTHING to live for, he has like 10% good and 90% misery and at least if I moved back home for a year or two I could be close enough to do something in an emergency. They don’t give their kids any way to talk to me and they wouldn’t let me around the kids to babysit or anything since I’m gay and a corrupting influence and believe in science and not fundamentalism but I’m telling you I had an extra 5-10% that this kid doesn’t have and I almost killed myself anyway and I didn’t have the massive health problems this kid has at that age either. They wouldn’t let me help him if I moved back but he has LITERALLY no one not in that worldview or viewing kids as not having rights etc etc and like. Of COURSE he can’t improve his emotions and behavior when he’s NEVER IN A SITUATION THAT LETS HIM HAVE ENOUGH LACK OF STRESS TO HEAL AND ENOUGH EXAMPLES OF ADULTS BEING HEALTHY EMOTIONALLY. WHAT DO YOU EXPECT
it just SUCKS and my mom is doing as much as she personally can to help in terms of getting him school accommodations and stuff but they all assured me so much while I was in the apartment 20 minutes away that things were SO much better and none of the old stuff was happening with him running away or needing to get dropped off to spend the night or whatever and I just you’re telling me they’ve been locking up food and you get calls at night on random days asking if they can drop him off at your house and the kid doesn’t have school accommodations and is failing some classes and has no motivation and has ongoing behavior issues and I just WHY DO YOU SAY THESE THINGS LIKE IT’S JUST A SHAME AND HE’S THE ONE CAUSING ALL OF THEM, and they didn’t take it seriously or see the problem when the kid scratched his own face bloody etc etc TWO YEARS AGO my god you people he doesn’t even tell you anything, what, do you think what you see on the surface is the extent of it?????
I’ve had conversations and I’ve cried at them and I’ve educated them and I’ve exhorted them at one am and I’ve tried to share my own experience and I’ve tried to give them science and I’ve tried to be a mediator and I ruined Christmas Eve begging them to be safer for these kids than they were for me because once I left the kids would have no other option bc they have no other trusted adults and they don’t GET it. If my parents and siblings ignore risks and one of my nephews or nieces ends up dead, I’m never going to forgive them for the rest of my life.
#please don’t suggest contacting DFS I already tried that last year and I was outed by my mom and everyone was REALLY mad and both the kids#and I got a lot of blame#and it wrecked my sister AND my mom and was expensive and didn’t help anything anyway#and there’s no evidence I can give and it’s everyone else against the crazy one (me) soooo#and also the foster system is terrible back home#i just needed to vent because this is everything I was afraid of happening back when I was like 14 and realizing if anyone ever knew#who I was and what I thought I’d be an evil influence from Satan and#never allowed access to the kids ever again and never trusted and kept informed about things#they spent years asking why the kids respond well to me#and asking if I can help with these situations#and I always did and I told them the same things every time and they never listened and I don’t want to be a PERSON I am so sick of being#a PERSON#why can’t you just fucking be KIND to each other and put in the work to face painful facts and GET BETTER BECAUSE OF IT#i did it on my own as a teenager you’re all at LEAST 16 years older than me I HATE you you just keep HURTING us kids and you don’t believe#you do because your worldview is the only right one and you can’t allow any other possibility!!!#well one of these days one of us is going to do more than wait 8 years to finally go to a hospital#and someone’s going to do something that can’t be bandaided or fixed#and you’re STILL not going to understand why#and I’m never going to know what to DO WITH YOU ABOUT THIS#oh thank FUCK#finally!!!!!!! an emotion!!!!!!!! oh my god it’s been over a month since I felt a feeling#this is great#excuse me I’ll be back in a while#I’m going to go feed the baby flame of this anger and try to keep it around for a bit so I remember what existing is like#I’m genuinely so happy right now hang on#thanks to anyone who read all the way through this ily and please make sure you have any water meds rest and food you need!!!!!!#shh katie#family#i love them all so much it eats me inside#i just want everyone to be GOOD like I know they’ve been able to be when I was little
hey im not gonna spread your weird social media-mediated brain infection on my blog, instead here are some cool studies to look at about how the "beautiful people have an easier life, every day, all the time" is a simplistic view, and is also patriarchal as fuck. more recent studies on "beauty privilege" are finding that the issue is complex, and that perceived beauty acts as a negative pressure in some/many social situations. i have always wondered why my experiences varied so much from the apparent wonderland the pop-science concept of "beauty privilege" paints, and more recent studies (often designed by women this time, imagine) are getting into the complexity there.
you personally may want to think about not reading my social media accounts if they are making you feel and act like this. i think i am not going to interact with you anymore if i can help it because i feel bad about what it is doing to you. anyway.
the short version is that beauty is beneficial in heterosexual social situations when dealing with the opposite sex, but detrimental when dealing with the same sex. this aspect of the research is usually ignored because who needs nuance in their pop psychology, right? not this guy (pointing 2 self)
very simply put, a beautiful woman can flirt her way out of a ticket from a heterosexual male cop. if she tries it on a person who doesnt consider her a potential romantic partner, there may be (and apparenly often are) negative consequences.
similarly in my own life i find that 99% of the apparent opportunities i'd been given for being young and fuckable were predicated on me actually fucking* the person who "offered" them, and most of them turned out to be fake/insincere opportunities anyway. tumblr refers to this as "grooming" when applied to child subjects (which i was, for much of it) but the behavior persists into the target's adulthood, middle age, and even old age if certain conditions are met. i can't find any studies on this because you can't put a Sleazy Guy in a lab setting and ask him "hey were you actually going to hire this woman on hte up-and-up, or were you going to 'hire' her and then spend 16 months making increasingly deranged sexual harassment attempts before reporting her to HR for made-up reasons and then finally firing her or hamstringing her career? just wondering".
i always think about that episode of Always Sunny where Mac goes nuts because every kid in his class was molested by the gym teacher and he imagines this to be some sort of privilege, even though charlie was one of the victims and is clearly devastated by it. thats what this conversation feels like every time it gets to the level of anons making fake tumblr accounts to KEEP pestering me about this stuff. remember that thing i said earlier about blood in the water, and how i dont post about bad shit that happened to me because it attracts the wrong kind of attention??? hehuehueheuheuhuehriuhgfidsrhru
actually thats a whole other realm of study: why victims of sexual assault and abuse are often re-victimized. until recently it was assumed that the victims were making bad decisions in who to trust, and this is sooorrrrtt of true, but doesn't tell the whole story. i read a study once that i am trying to find and will post later if i find it, that took video of adult women study subjects (who had agreed to be filmed) walking normally just down the street publically, and showed this video to male test subjects. if im remembering the study correctly, which i may not be, the male subjects who scored higher on psychopathy indices were better able to indentify the women in the test footage who had been sexually assaulted at some point in their former lives.
something to think about is a lot of "attractive" qualities (including proccupation with physical appearance leading to altering that appearance to be more beautiful), especially in the manic pixie archetype, are very strongly represented in trauma victims, especially sexual assault survivors (as is the opposite, intentionally trying to be "unattractive" to avoid further victimization). this includes "seductiveness", one of the adjectives used to diagnose child sexual abuse victims before the verbiage in the literature got cleaned up. obviouly a child cant be "seductive" and thats pretty offensive and fucked up to say. what they meant is that the childs behavior has been altered by trauma to become sexualized to appease attackers. this is part of the "fawn" sector of emergency responses in humans (along with fight, flight, and freeze).
so when we talk so cavalierly of "beauty" and "attractive people" vs "unattractive people" we are simplifying an issue that is so complex it is difficult even to think about. this complexity makes me go "hmm" every time theres a study on it, much less a popular belief. a lot of it sort of doesnt square with easily-observable phenomena: if physical beauty is so correlated to success, why are the 1% of wealthy people, politicians, actual power-holders, hell even the CEOs of normal companies, very very rarely what you would consider physically beautiful, even when they havent aged out of what the culture thinks is the maximum span of time someone can be "hot"? some of this is just personal preference, and it's real hard to study any of this because of how complex that issue becomes. but where are all these hot successful people i keep hearing about? are they all trophy spouses and retired from the public eye? you can definitely cherrypick examples of "influencers" etc but thats an extremely narrow line of work, and not representative.
anyway! lot of the "do beautiful people get more stuff" research is from quite a while ago, wasnt designed well, and was based on a work and social culture that was quite a bit different than it is now. but even older studies document this effect. ive spent like many minutes typing about this stupid bullshit so im bored and annoyed now and i dont want to type about it anymore
1. Effects of Self-Esteem Threat on Physical Attractiveness Stereotypes
2. Does being attractive always help? positive and negative effects of attractiveness on social decision making (cant find the sci-hub version, alas, but documents a negative effect we're actually seeing an anecdotal example of in my inbox rn)
3. Is beauty a gift or a curse? The influence of an offender’s physical attractiveness on forgiveness
* often it wasnt even just a sex thing. it's very very often a romance/relationship that is desired by the perpetrator. it's a misapprehension of the public that sexual harassment/grooming is "just about sex" or even less accurately "just about power", it isnt
