So, the Jackson "The Hobbit" movies get rid of the dwarves having musical instruments, rather adding a very atmospheric humming to the "Over the Misty Mountains" song. And I like this adaptational choice just fine, I think it sounds good, and because the question of "What happens to the instruments? Are they taking clarinets and a harp and etc. on the quest?! Are the musical instruments magical?" has bugged me for years. And I do think this choice suits the general *waves hand vaguely* more "serious / grim / lower high fantasy" aesthetic cultivated by the previous Jackson "Lord of the Rings" films.
But I do like the mental image of the Company being a very literal band going on a quest, because I think it's funny and delightful and unique. If I was doing an animated movie in particular, I would not like to be rid of the musical instruments during that scene. The vibe is very magical. Very whimsical. And whimsy does not have to be wholly separate from very serious subject matters! I think it would be very cool if the dwarves had more casually magical tools generally, which would do some easy additional worldbuilding for the level of craftsmanship in this world, and could fit in perfectly well alongside hidden doors and invisibility rings and mithril shirts and glowing swords and jewelry that never comes accidentally undone.
If someone did a version where all the dwarves are carrying musical instruments throughout most of the quest in this way and the creator really leaned into the music generally and audio-visual relationship in film specifically, I would absolutely watch it. That sounds amazing. It wouldn't necessarily have to be a musical or an opera as well, though that would also be extremely cool. (Personally, I would even also watch a "Fantasia" version of "The Hobbit" FOR SURE. I am an artsy dork like that. Though it might not be my first choice in my ideal creative project.)
I think you could could do some great, whimsical scenes with the dwarves singing at various points on the road, the musical instruments breaking at certain emotional points, the dwarves trying to do little musical spells at various points, and so on. A lot of this stuff could even just be other members of the Company fussing around with these things in the background (trying to play a musical spell to light a fire) while Bilbo has a foreground conversation with Thorin or Gandalf or something. I LOVE in animated (and live) movies when you can see supporting characters bickering or getting into hijinks in the background of a scene. (Also, this world was sung into being in a way, wasn't it? Why not have more magical music?)
(OHHH, the way that Smaug could be done in a more audio- and music-focused version of "The Hobbit" would be SO COOL.)
Alternatively, generally, I've also imagined that there are other dwarves with wagons nearby to take the musical instruments away again (let's say the instruments are not magical in any way and taking them along would therefore largely just be impractical), and that the night at Bilbo's house was actually also a RITUAL meal/meeting for the members of a long journey. You're going on a quest? You seclude yourself with your company, eat, drink, talk, plan, and sing a little to bond as an exclusive group the night before heading off together. Normally, this would have been done back at their own home or something, but they had to get their burglar first.
I think this would be a cool way to slip in characters like Dis and Gimli even just in the background, as family members come to see everyone off, seen fixing Kili's hair or hugging Gloin as the Company prepares to leave Hobbiton that last morning. Thorin and Balin could be exchanging a couple quick lines about how Bilbo hasn't shown up yet, and in the background, we could see Dis hugging Fili (the true purpose of a well-done adaptation of "The Hobbit" is to break my fucking heart) and Gloin's wife drawing off with a wagon full of musical instruments while young Gimli waves tearfully! You wouldn't even have to have them say anything to slip them in!
Just... I'm listening to the Andy Serkis audiobook of "The Hobbit" right now and I want to see some gloriously artsy visual adaptations of this world.

Live reaction to TRoP 2x04
I am actually so glad Amazon is releasing the episodes weekly now because I love the anticipation beforehand and all the speculation about what happens next. So let's see what episode 4 has in store
Elrond in Mithlond! We're off to a great start here. I've missed my sweet summer child in episode 3
Galadriel, please, you have no right to be even the slightest bit bitchy right now after the Sauron shit you pulled
thank Eru Elrond is having none of it. I love how unapologetically he stands his ground and refuses to engage with her childish passive-aggressiveness
epic camera shots are epic and very LotR-reminiscent
also can I just say that I love how they're including the map to help the viewer get a grasp on where the characters are?
new elves! And they have names! I have a feeling they won't survive this journey but still, hello new elves!
man I just want to give Elrond a hug. He's trying so hard and given everything that's happened it's completely understandable why he won't trust Galadriel and Nenya, and I hate that this sets him up for failure
oooooh is it Tom Bombadil time? I can't believe this show made me feel excited about a character that I couldn't have cared less about when I read the books. I blame Bear McCreary and his beautiful music
lol Tom is like one of those burrowing animals that accidentally throws dirt at someone behind it while digging
Old Man Willow desert equivalent - does Tom Bombadil just naturally attract malevolent trees?
oh I'm so glad Nori and Poppy are okay and landed together wherever they are
those two need to meet Elrond. Given their tendencies to jump off cliffs, I think they'd get along splendidly
omg Nobody! I love you! You are adorable! And your name is Merimac! Gods, I hope they'll keep you around
lol not Nori third-wheeling and being jealous
desert halflings my beloveds! Look at them! They're so different from what we've known and yet them living in holes and the children sitting around listening to stories is so beautifully familiar. I love this so much
oh they're Stoors! And they don't like the Dark Wizard. Got it. I don't like the Dark Wizard either but damn I love watching Ciarán Hinds play him
"You should not be waking." :) I still can't believe how much I love Tom Bombadil already
GOLDBERRY!
that flame trick was neat
omg his little hedgehog teapot! I want one!
oh no this is where we say goodbye to my new elf friends, don't we? The Barrow-downs. I always loved this part in FotR
"Fear not. Dead men are no threat." Famous last words
shit those are the horses from the messenger Gil-galad sent, right?
the Barrow-wights are giving me PotC-vibes and I'm here for it
please let Camnir survive this. Please let Camnir survive this
thank you, Elrond. I knew I could count on you
also yay for him being a bookworm and knowing how to fight the Barrow-wights
and we're back in Pelargir. Have I mentioned that I don't really care about Theo (yet)? I love that Arondir and Isildur are teaming up, though
Estrid, I don't like you. Please go away. Or get trampled by an Ent
or found out by Arondir. That works as well
have I mentioned that I miss Bronwyn?
Arondir, you're a kinder man (elf) than me. I would have let Estrid faceplant right into the dirt
lol Isildur is such an idiot and I love him for it. The way he got sucked into the mud and pulled Arondir along with him was so funny
hello mud worm! I love how many different creatures we're getting in this show
the cave art! Omg it's beautiful and perfect!
"We don't have a home." This is such a sad sentence and reminds me of the dwarves (and especially Bofur) in the Hobbit movies
Galadriel, I'm sorry, but Elrond just told you he is trying his best to save Celebrimbor (and certainly feels overwhelmed by and terrified of such a task) and you're saying all elves carry such burden? Are you serious?
fuck me, not Elrond getting captured in her vision. Is he going to be forced to watch Celebrimbor get tortured / killed?
I will not be okay if / when that happens. Just saying
also I absolutely adore Camnir and you can bet I am already thinking about writing a fic about him and Elrond
not surprised by Estrid's stunt
shoot her, Arondir. Do us all a favour and shoot her
or maybe she actually is stupid enough to get herself trampled by Ents. One can hope
getting smacked is good too
Arondir, please, was it necessary to stop the nice Entwife?
damn those shots of the Ents look pretty
also did anyone ever think we'd get to see an Ent and Entwife together? Because I didn't and my heart is full.
oh that scene between Arondir and Winterbloom was beautiful
the orcs look so good in this series. I'm so glad we went back to prosthetics
I love how calm Elrond is. He is always careful not to rush into anything, always waits and sees and it keeps saving all their asses
NO! Fuck, are you kidding me? Not Camnir. Please, not him
okay, I have forgiven you for everything you've ever done wrong, Galadriel
and I have so many Elrond and Camnir ideas right now, holy shit, that scene was everything
that flaming arrow move was badass
oh this is how she will get captured
yessss hello Adar! I've missed you! Time for Sauron's exes to team up and wreak havoc
his greeting, I can't. Perfect. I love him so much
what a great episode!

Aventurine, Dr. Ratio, and Ruan Mei for the character ask! (Love ur Aventio fic btw).
Thank you for the ask! I had fun doing these. (Also I'm glad you're enjoying the fic! I am sitting in my authorial hobbit hole with a big smile on my face.)
Aventurine
Clarifications (yellow boxes):
I don't see as many bad Aventurine takes as I do for Ratio, but I do think his rough edges often get watered down in a way that either justifies or ignores his canonical flaws. So "they got done dirty by fans" and "wow! they are a horrible person" both get soft nods because I think his character deserves to be both sympathetic and kind of an ass sometimes. (The other issue I see is people acting like he's vulnerable and helpless, which is just. fundamentally not true? He's not as secure in himself as he pretends to be, but he is a ruthlessly competent strategist, and he knows how to read people and give them what they want to see. He's a member of the Ten Stonehearts for a reason.)
"If they were real I would be afraid of them" alright let me explain. The 2.1 story did a masterful job of humanizing Aventurine, but his first impressions in 2.0 were fine-tuned to be unnerving, and it was really effective for me as a player. For a while I couldn't articulate why it made me uncomfortable, but @starcurtain did a great analysis on female influence in Aventurine's life, which touched on how his early interactions with the Trailblazer are designed to be intimidating and off-putting in a way that channels the sort of masculine dominance Aventurine has historically experienced at the hands of other men. Suffice to say: if it served his plans for me to be afraid of him, he knows how to do it, and it would work.
Also I forgot to mark "why do they look like that" on the bingo but I do think Hoyo should have given him more melanin considering how deeply Romani-coded his culture is. Everything else about his design slaps though.
Ratio
Clarifications:
"Wasted potential" is subjective because I've loved every moment we've gotten of Ratio onscreen, but damn do I want the game to delve deeper into his backstory and his dynamics with other characters (I'm still sad that so far Aventurine is the only character that has a voice line about him).
"Deeper than they seem" and "not as deep as they seem" exist in a paradoxical state for me because I do think some folks stop at the surface reading of "arrogant asshole" when he's got way more going on in his character stories and his actions in canon... but I also think some people err on the side of taking him too seriously, in a way that likewise takes something away from his character. Like, this is the guy who plays chess with himself and trash-talks from both sides of the table like a goddamn cartoon character. He owns at least one rubber duck and takes a bath with it every day. He likes all of Aventurine's social media posts and replies "Heh." to anything he finds vaguely amusing. This is not a serious man.
"Why do they look like that" okay I need to clarify that this is not a criticism. I love Ratio's design. The neoclassical vibes are impeccable. But it's also extra in a way that I feel morally obligated to call out, considering how much he rags on Aventurine for dressing like a peacock. Sir, you walk around in robes and sandals with an alabaster bust on your head; you have no room to talk about subtle fashion choices.
Ruan Mei
Clarifications:
Ruan Mei gets both "they are so cool looking" and "why do they look like that" because I love the theory behind her design (the DNA elements, the embroidery and floral imagery, the qipao paired with the pearl necklace) but she also has the unfortunate distinction of being a female character in a Hoyoverse game, so the more unique details fall prey to the homogenizing force of the male gaze.
Another case of "they got done dirty by fans" and "wow! they are a terrible person" existing in tandem, but in Ruan Mei's case I think some people reduce her down to her worst qualities without acknowledging the more complex aspects of her character. Her unchecked pursuit of knowledge leads to her doing Objectively Bad Things, but I don't think it's a fair (or particularly interesting) reading to portray her as heartless.
I thought about marking "wasted potential" because imo 1.6 wasn't nearly enough to delve into Everything Going on with This Woman, but it seems like they're setting up something for a future patch, so I'm content to wait and see what the writers have planned. I'm really excited to find out what she's doing with those leviathan fossils and Tingyun's wrecked ship.

Tumblr should really let you pin multiple things as a blog introduction. (I wish).
Anyway, hi, hello, (new friend?), I'm Brb/Birb/(real name redacted). I'm an almost graduated student from the general land of cornfields and more cornfields. There's not much around, that's why I'm here, lol. (Also I've met a bunch of cool people, so now I think I'm kind of stuck here - come join us!).
⚔️🐦⚔️🐦⚔️🐦⚔️🐦⚔️🐦⚔️🐦⚔️🐦⚔️🐦⚔️🐦⚔️🐦⚔️🐦
If you happen to be a New Person Who Has Found Me (Hello!) and You Want To Talk to Me, I don't bite, I swear. I am a Birb with the heart of a Golden Labrador Retriever. Feel free to Tag Me in any tag games or haunt my inbox. <3 Come say hi! i love friends.
((Art by the amazing @mayamohini jfkfjjfkjgjgjgjfj it’s gorgeous)
(my "character sheet" that is based on my real life attributes--yes, I did roll all of these numbers. I use canva a totally healthy amount sometimes)
⚔️🐦⚔️🐦⚔️🐦⚔️🐦⚔️🐦⚔️🐦⚔️🐦⚔️🐦⚔️🐦⚔️🐦⚔️🐦
Anyway, more information y'all should know: This is the main account; I do have a sideblog. I reblog a lot of friend's nonsense, post a lot of my own even more nonsense, kind of have a whole "I want to be a hobbit living my best life somewhere not here vibe" I think. You will also see posts about things I think are wholesome/sweet, writing, psychology, fantasy, whatever fandom I'm in (or a friend's fandom),....just general nonsense I suppose. I do post some amount of life stuff when relevant or whenever I find things funny. Although the pic above is an owl, I am probably more akin to a magpie with much reblogging of things I find "shiny" to add to the chaotic mess that is my tumblr dashboard.
⚔️🐦⚔️🐦⚔️🐦⚔️🐦⚔️🐦⚔️🐦⚔️🐦⚔️🐦⚔️🐦⚔️🐦⚔️🐦
@brb-on-a-side-blog is also me! This was created to hopefully separate original writing content from the rest of the reblogging I do so it doesn't get buried in theory. This may not work out in theory as well as in practice, but I promise to reblog the cool writing stuff to my main blog if you don't want to have it clogging up your dash :).
There are other ones but as I am currently not using them it seems futile to put in an intro post.
⚔️🐦⚔️🐦⚔️🐦⚔️🐦⚔️🐦⚔️🐦⚔️🐦⚔️🐦⚔️🐦⚔️🐦⚔️🐦
Tags to help sift through to find me in the hoard of posts!
#brb-rambles: Original thoughts about something (or at least as original as I can be).
#brb-(insert part of moots name here): interactions between me and said moot! I'm actually really not great at this but will get better and I forsee mass post editor being a BFF if I do this.
#brb-life: original content relating to my life/thoughts.
#brb-writes: original writing content (this will be potentially moved to sideblog).
#brb-memes (i make memes sometimes).
#brb-library: posts that are either really funny/really struck me so I'm going to save them to print out
#brb-adventures: the hopeful travel tag for some upcoming trips (either the grocery store or New York who knows).
#brb-learning-things: Things I have learned (although it's from my school/classes so questionably but I reason sourced; if it's not, I'll include source link/some kind of citation).
#brb needs a laugh check: I am joking. Please do not take me seriously.
#brb vs the call of the academia: school posting?
#brb-asks/#brb-report:s hopefully new ask tag if I can remember to add them.
#dear north canada love south canada (and associated tags I will not be typing out here) is a fun series I have with @igotthisaccountunderduress (she's absolutely cool, check her out). Again, that won't cover all the posts but again, vibes).
#Also I have AO3 under same blog name: brb_on_a_quest#It's mainly to start organizing my stuff ((cuz i don't want to organize in real life but need feel some sense of control lol).#fair warning; my intro posts/pfp may change a fair amount bc i have tendency to change aspects of my presence like clothes#not the url bc i know that causes too much chaos#brb-rambles#brb-life

How'd you end up discovering your art style?
Well, it wasn’t much of a discovery- it’s just how I draw, I guess! It evolves over time and changes based on what artists I’m looking up to and what styles I’m into
But I can give ya a (recent-ish) evolution of my style/a break-down on all its influences over the past two years if ya wanna see how it all happened!
-
Some stuff from July-October of 2022
Two-three-ish years ago, for instance, it was more classical painting inspired. I was real into Over the Garden Wall and also just…general American history back then don’t judge I was coming off of my first American history class since elementary school and I thought it was so cool So my art had more of like…that going on yk? It wasn’t as good as my stuff now at all, because I’ve since improved my anatomy skills, learned how to draw fabric folds (sorta), and learned a bit of color theory lol. But they’re ok for what they are, I guess.
I think my main problem back then was the fact that I did not fully know how to use references- and a lotta my references were like. Cartoons. And stuff that was very much not meant to be painted in the amount of detail I aimed for at the time.
(Even here, you can tell I was dissatisfied, because they all look pretty different from each other yk?) (and you can see how hardly any of the fabric has folds and how little I understood lighting 😭)
-
January-March ‘23
Anyhow, after this, in uhh early 2023, I had a 80s-90s comic book/pop art phase, which was a pretty drastic swing in the opposite direction. I still rendered things sometimes, but things were less soft/warm. BUT I was starting to use real photos as references which was vital
I was also watching a lotta tmnt with my kid brother, which is what I blame for why the proportions got so stylized- folks in the 2012 version of that show were just kinda built funny, which I think subconsciously impacted my art. My posing did get a bit stronger in this time as I practiced more, and I think things got less stiff
-
June-August ‘23
Next, as the summer months came, I had a lotta changes in inspo and also just in life lol. I had temporarily moved to my neighbor’s place, and I didn’t have a car yet/any friends who I liked enough to hang around with, so all summer long I rewatched a lotta 80s movies, fell in love with the first season of Stranger Things (not the others as much tho 😭), skateboarded, and watched a lotta art tutorials online. (I specifically remember Jackie Droujko’s yt shorts saving my assss- I loved her stuff so much. Definitely check ‘em out she explains things real well)
I improved slowly, but I DID IMPROVE a HELLUVA LOT. I focused a lot on trying to draw people who looked recognizably like themselves, but also stylized because realism (usually) bores me. I also got better at coloring- the first two here ain’t great in terms of colors, but I was learning. Plus, back then I was very into oddly saturated color schemes. (I mean it is a solid vibe. I may not do this a ton anymore but I can dig it still)
-
October-November ‘23
As autumn came, I was pretty enamored with all the like…✨fall vibes✨ that time around. My life was goin’ well, so I had a lotta optimism and a re-ignited love for nature, forests, and fantasy. Plus I was dating this girl who was really into vintage-y Wes Anderson stuff so I think some of that uhhh twee-ness rubbed off on me lol
My influences here were mainly old storybooks, a hint of Lord of the Rings (as you can probably tell by the hobbit), and a decent amount of Fantastic Mr. Fox. And for faces I was mainly using the Laurenillusrated Brushpack at the time I think? I don’t use the “Sketchy” brush in it as often anymore as I did then, but I should. It’s a great brush, and I actually am really liking all the little sketchy lines. It adds a nice touch.
also don’t look at my goddamn long hair in that self portrait on the left. I hated it on me then and I hate it now too. I cannot believe I ever let it get that long it was really bad
-
December ‘23-April ‘24
I honestly did like a total of like. Seven drawings in these four months. As opposed to my usual…uhhh I wanna say 25 every four months. Idk what was up- art just wasn’t fun at the time. I mean, it was also just a lousy few months in general, so I’m sure that’s a part of it lol, but yk. This style is pretty close to my current one- my inspiration just came from x-files-ish sci-fi and American gothic stories/images as opposed to nowadays’ Beat generation and greaser inspo.
May-Now (October) ‘24
The Outsiders kinda dragged me back into enjoying drawing again honestly. I’d read and loved it back in 2023, but upon rereading it/watching the movie in February of 2024, it just sorta…entered my headspace and stayed this time. (Still, I didn’t really draw any Outsiders/greaser-y things till May)
Lately, I take artistic inspiration in 2d animated films, like the ones by Disney with the real nicely drawn fabric folds. And also just a lotta inspo from real life. I also do a lot of black and white comics, because I find that I generally have a “Go big or go home” mentality about most things- which can be a LOT of pressure! By allowing myself to draw simpler doodle-y things, I’ve regained that love for drawing. I think for a while it just felt like work, but in letting myself take it easy, art’s become a good time again :))

Get to know me?
I kinda realized I never really introduced myself, so uh, hi!
My name is Echo :D I am pansexual and genderfluid, as for pronouns, I have no preferences, just don't call me an 'attack helicopter' and we'll be chillin'
I am 16, currently in Junior year, actually really enjoying it right now!
In most of my DR's my name is Eleanor, which is why its my user! I just feel connected to both names
Some non-shifting facts about me:
I have olive-green eyes
I have been singing/playing guitar/acting for around 10 years and I danced for 8 years (still dance for theater and funsies)
I play acoustic, electric, and a little bass
I am in a band as a lead singer and guitarist, we are called "Vessels of Rebirth"!!!
I am an alto-soprano! which is very fun as I can sing very diverse styles of music (my favorites being folk, rock, and gospel)
I am a Christian and follower of God, to whom I love dearly
Although I am a Christian, I do a lot of tarot reading, and I also see and speak with the deceased as well as have prophetic dreams on occasion. I currently have 3 spirits residing in my house, they are quite nice! (Also if you guys have any suggestions on incense please let me know! I need to add to my stash)
I do a ton of art, whether it be sewing, drawing, painting, photography, or making things out of materials, you will always find me with a new project (I'm currently working on a plushie bee for my friend in my Java class!!)
Speaking of java I am loving coding, that shit is cool
At the moment, I am leading in two shows (one is a murder mystery comedy, like clue, where the audience decides who the murderer is! The second is Spamalot, and I am the female lead, Lady of the Lake!!) I am also in the ensemble of Hadestown and doing crew for Little Mermaid! So a ton of theater stuffs going on (would you believe me if I told you I have 6 different theater-based DR's?? teehee)
I do a ton of reading, I love books; it's one of my dreams to have a Hobbit-inspired book room in my future house, complete with a circle door
I have a massive collection of plushies and stuffed animals, all of which I have named and remember perfectly (I love them sm)
My favorite colors are: forest/emerald green, sunset orange, TEAL!!!, deep purples, navy blue, maroon, pastel yellow, and blue/ashy grey
I am very Portuguese, and I love Portuguese food, my favorite being Bifanas
I have two pets, a 7 year old golden retriever named Ridge and an 11 month old ragdoll cat named Dexter (short for Dexteria, yes I am a DnD nerd)
Speaking of DnD, I am currently DM'ing three campaigns, and I'm in around 10-15 other campaigns, I love DnD a lot, it's one of my favorite hobbies
Onto shifting related stuff!
I have been shifting(minishifting partially, still shifting though!!!) since I was around 8 I guess? I didn't realize that was what I was doing at the time, and around 2021 I found out about shifting through a classmate (who brought it up at the most random time possible, an ELA class lol)
The first actual DR I ever made was a My Hero Academia reality, and by birds all mighty that script was ROUGH
But I still hold it close to my heart, even though it was so cringy
I took a break from shifting for like 7 months to a year at most, I believed in it, I just felt more content in my CR, but now I am at a point where I want to explore and be fully happy and learn and grow as myself!
Here is a list of my main DR's!
MPHFPC
Waiting Room
Phantom of the Opera
DnD homebrew (x3)
Better CR
Ever After High DR (x2)
Theater related (x6)
Apartment DR (x2)
Big Bang Theory
ASOUE
College DR (Harvard obviously)
Mad Scientist DR (before you ask, it's a book I'm writing, and No I am not the mad scientist)
Hogwarts (Not my favorite, but definitely for the vibes, witch-craft and ooo riding brooms is super fun! I kinda stay away from the main characters to the best of my ability, besides George tho, that man has my heart)
Those are my most recent ones, they all have their little quirks and loveliness that make them unique to me, if you have any questions about them I would be happy to answer!
I mainly post about my MPHFPC DR and more recently my Waiting Room, since they are the two realities I go to
I hope you guys enjoyed and got to know me a bit better, my asks/comments are always open so feel free to stop in and say ahoy!
Bye-bye for now :D

Two episodes in. I was watching on my computer so I did skim some of episode 2. I’m watching this half-jokingly I can do what I want.
Episode 1: A Shadow of the Past
Little girl Galadriel made a swan boat. That’s so kinslaying-core.
Finrod needs to be much scruffier. Is he the only sibling they had the rights to?
“we had no word for death” - no, you do girlie. Miriel’s dead and elves got murdered by Morgoth back in middle earth.
the fight choreography is bad.
THE PILE OF SKULLS FROM NIRNAETH ARNOEDIAD! Censored to helmets lol.
scratches on Finrod’s corpse??? werewolf scratches?
Galadriel as vengeful warrior is different, and I assume we aren’t getting Celeborn until later then, but I don’t hate it. I especially like that she’s been given some of the trauma that she understandably would have.
eLROND! writing dramatic prose, as he should.
I mean, the Noldor can leave for the west whenever they want. Staying is an act of rebellion. This is the opposite of how it works.
oh so they’re giving this random elf ranger a love interest but there’s no Celeborn? um actually Idril and Tuor were fine! and Beren and Luthien were also fine after dying! Get the girl, elf ranger. It’ll be fine.
COW OOZE? I guess the corrupting power of darkness is super literal here.
CELEBRIMBOR’S YOUR COUSIN! YOU ALREADY KNOW EACHOTHER! If you know Galadriel, you should know him.
Overall points.
I don’t understand why Hobbits (harfoots) are here beyond brand recognition, but looking at them objectively I kind of like them. The little speech about nomadic life and safety was nice, especially when the hobbits we see in the third age are nothing if not protective of their stuff.
Traumatized Warrior!Galadriel would have been an amazing character choice for literally any other Noldor. Galadriel’s whole thing is that she runs from the fights to go sit in the woods somewhere. Her problem should be isolation and survivors guilt, not what she has here. Once again looking at it objectively without knowledge of Celeborn, it’s a pretty good concept and the execution is working so far.
Idk about the pacing? There were weird fight scenes as though the crew knew they were doing too much standing and talking, but the fights weren’t good.
Episode 2: Adrift
(Okay so I accidentally clicked “next episode” twice and skipped the recap so I watched a few minutes of episode 3 without realizing. This is a Bad sign about what happens in episode 2)
I don’t think the Valar would send Gandalf here in a meteor, but I guess they did drop him naked on a mountaintop after killing a balrog.
Arondir deserves better than a stock romance plot line. Is getting captured by orcs better? For the plot, yes. For him, no.
Feanor mention!! Poor Celebrimbor. He sure is going to sacrifice…
CB is supposed to be friends with the dwarves! he shouldn’t need Elrond here. Good to see Elrond getting the respect he deserves though. I like the dwarf designs and vibes a lot.
This episode was worse. Galadriel is rapidly losing the goodwill I had for her at the beginning. I know the man turns out to be Sauron but i’m already annoyed by their antics. I want Celeborn instead. I am also not having a great time with the Harfoot antics.

WIP Questionnaire
Thanks @wintherlywords for the tag, this looks like fun! I've left a copy of the clean slate of questions below
Rules: Answer as many (or as few) of the questions about your WIP as you can.
1. What was the first part of your WIP that you created? The first part of the TGATWST I wrote was one of the endings of the three stories in the book lol, jumping right to the end. It's a scene where there is rain falling on a man's face and he, being in love with a god, feels it as an embrace from his lover - very sentimental and a bit mushy but what can I say, I'm a sucker for romance.
2. If your story was a TV show, what would the theme song/intro be? I think it would be like the music from The Hobbit or LoTR! Very instrumental and powerful, something that could move you.
3. Who are your favourite characters you've made? Why? Oop that would be like picking a favourite child and I'm not going into too much detail on this WWIP as of yet (still in the very early stages and wondering if it will survive) but I definitely have characters whose voices I have figured out better than others.
4. What other pieces of media do you think would share a fan base for your story? The Hobbit, LoTR seeing as they're huge inspirations for me in everything I do lol. Maybe the inheritance Cycle and books like it? Honestly difficult to imagine anything I write having a fan base but if I had to give it a vibe I'd go with those!
5. What has been your biggest struggle with your WIP? Motivation, every time. I have a demanding job and exams and I'm currently in the legal process of getting a house so lots of exciting things going on that usually mean I have no energy left for writing!
6. Are there any animals in your story? Talk about them! Horses, cows and beasts lol, the WIP is set in medieval times (fantasy of course) so animals are a big part of the world, but not a huge part of the actual story.
7. How do your characters get around? (ex: trains, horses, cars, dragons, etc.) Horses, walking, some carriages for those with a little extra coin who fancy living the high life
8. What part of your WIP are you working on rn? The end of the beginning, and the beginning of the middle, which is a strange sentence to write.
9. What aspects (tropes, maybe?) of your WIP do you think will draw people in? Gods and mortals and the relationships between them, found family vibes, self-loathing characters finding redemption, soldiers finding and losing faith, and lots of queer representation
10. What are your hopes for your WIP? That I can actually finish it and have it be something I am proud of.
I'll go ahead and tag (with no pressure) @verba-writing @elizaellwrites @writingmoth and @ceph-the-ghost-writer and anyone else who wants to have a go!

Stitches - Thorin Oakenshield X GN Reader
Title: Stitches
Thorin Oakenshield X GN Reader
Additional Characters: The Company (Mentioned)
Modern AU / Magic AU
WC: 1,602
Warnings: Death mentioned, The Hobbit storyline mentioned, slight angst, and fluff
Pulling the thread and needle through the fabric, you let out a sigh, tying the thread and cutting the excess string. Placing down your craft supplies, you hold the finished plush in your hands, holding it up to stare at your masterpiece. You had been making a plush of your favorite Hobbit Dwarf, Thorin. It took a couple of months, but you were done. Staring into his black, shiny eyes, you smiled. He wasn't perfect, being your first plush you've ever made, but he was yours. His dark brown hair, made of felt, was sewn to his flesh colored fabric head. You made his beard with the same brown colored felt, and even braided brown yarn to make his braids. You gave him stubby limbs, and dressed him in a poorly fashioned outfit that looked sadly nothing like the one in the movie.
Overall, you were very proud of yourself, and decided to go out and get yourself a small treat for your great feat. So, placing the Thorin plush on your bed, you scooted off the mattress and grabbed your bag, before putting on your shoes and leaving your home. You wandered the streets, making your way to the nearby café, where you had bought yourself a small mocha. Walking inside the building, you took in the atmosphere. It was warm and cozy, with soft music playing and colorful lights decorating the walls. It gave you 70's vibes, which was nice. You ordered your drink, before leisurely making your way back home, occasionally sipping your drink as you did so.
Unlocking your door and entering your home once more, you kicked it closed behind you. Sitting your cup of coffee on the kitchen counter, you hummed a simple song as you toed off your shoes, taking them off and setting them neatly by the shoe rack. Heading to your room, you almost had a heart attack. There, standing in your room, was a person... A man... Who looked very similar to Thorin. The same hair, stature, and even though his back was turned to you, you knew it was him. You watched The Hobbit too many times, not to instantly recognize the Dwarf. But, how? You asked yourself. What magic was this? You didn't even think magic was real in your world.
"Uh... Hello?" You spoke up, startling the man as he turned around to look at you, eyes slightly wide as he stared at you with his deep blue eyes.
"Where am I? Who are you?" He commanded quickly, and you couldn't stop your heart from skipping a beat; he sounded just like Thorin, and looked just like him too.
"You're in my home, and my name is Y/N."
Thorin seemed defensive, looking at you skeptically, "Why am I here?" He asked, before looking around your room. "I recognized this place, for only a fleeting moment, but the last thing I remember was the feeling of being cold... Numb. Thinking back, my mind is a blur."
You frowned, realizing what he meant. The only understandable conclusion was that your plush of Thorin had come to life, and the last thing Thorin remembers was his death. But, how could that be possible? That world was fiction, so there’s no possible way that a toy could come alive… Right? You shook away those thoughts, trying to push them aside as you began answering Thorin's questions.
"Well, I had made a... A doll of you and I think you came to life." You said sheepishly, rubbing the back of your neck, as Thorin looked up at you once more.
"What do you mean?" He asked, "I am confused."
"Me too." You answered, "I have no idea what is happening."
"Then we are in agreement." Thorin spoke, before taking a seat on your bed. "You say I was this doll that you made. And the last thing I felt was numbness, a cold chill..." Looking up at you, he frowned, "Am I dead? Or has some... magic sent me to this world?"
You had a loss for words, "I- I don't know. I'm sorry. All I know is that I finished making a plush of you and then left for a coffee. And when I came back you were here and my plush was gone." You ranted, running a hand through your hair.
"You made me..." Thorin muttered, repeating his words, "So, you know of me?" He asked, and you nodded.
"Yes, in this world, you are a fictional character -- a story book character. Someone made you into a story a long time ago and then they made a movie about you and your Company reclaiming Erebor." You explained and Thorin closed his eyes, taking in a deep breath.
He clenched his fists as he quickly opened his eyes, "I do not understand what this place is or why I am here, or what happened to me to have brought me here..." He began, staring at your bedroom floor, "But, you must help me get back to my Company."
You bit your lip, "Thorin... I don't know if I can. I don't even know how you are real right now..." You sighed heavily, “Honestly, I’m freaking out right now.”
Thorin raised an eyebrow, "What do you mean? Why can you not help me?" You could see he was growing upset.
You sighed, running a hand through your hair again, "Like I said, in this world, you are not real." You paused, before heading to your shelf and pulling The Hobbit DVD off the shelf, you offered Thorin the case, where he could see a picture of himself on the cover. "Well, now you're real, but I'm sorry... I have no idea how I can send you back."
Thorin was quiet as he stared at the DVD case, staring at himself. You sighed, hesitantly making your way over to him, sitting beside him on your bed. "Look, I know it might sound crazy," You began softly, "But maybe there’s a reason you were sent to this world." You wondered and Thorin looked over at you.
"What do you mean?" He asked, and you bit your lip, looking down at your socked feet.
"Uh, maybe something in the world or the universe wanted to give you a second chance." You spoke, unable to look him in the eyes.
"A second chance?" He asked, and you nodded before sighing shakily.
You swallowed thickly before speaking, "You died, Thorin." Thorin looked at you, shocked and you continued, "So that's why the last thing you remember is feeling cold and numb... You were on that frozen river."
Thorin looked back at the DVD in his hands, and you waited patiently for him to speak. He finally did, after several minutes of silence.
"Thank you." He whispered, causing you to look up. Your brows furrowed in confusion. He looked down at the case of The Hobbit once more, "I'm starting to remember... I remember my Company... and Bilbo." He looked back up at you, his sad blue eyes staring into yours. "Are they alright? Did we reclaim our homeland?"
You felt the tears well up in your eyes, "Yes, you reclaimed Erebor." You nodded, "The battle... Many were lost."
"As with every great battle." Thorin interrupted as you nodded again in agreement. "But what of my kin?" You stayed silent, and that was all he needed to hear. You both stayed silent for another long while, and the tension in the air was thick. But, eventually, Thorin broke the silence. You went to open your mouth to say something, but he quickly stood up and walked over to the window. "I am stuck here... In this world." He spoke, turning to face you, as his expression was hard to read.
You shrugged, "I don't know for sure that you are stuck here, Thorin." You began, standing up yourself, and walking over to him. "But, you are more than welcome to stay."
"Thank you," He stated, as he looked out the window, watching as the sun set, casting him in a beautiful orange hue. You followed his gaze and smiled sadly, looking away, before clearing your throat and looking back at the Dwarf. "May I stay here tonight?" He asked, and you nodded.
"Of course, um... Do you want anything? Water? Milk?" You asked, gesturing towards the door, wanting desperately to do something, anything to help Thorin.
"Water will suffice. Thank you." His tone was polite and formal, and you nodded before leaving the room to fetch your drinks.
When you returned, he was still looking out the window and, upon seeing you enter, his eyes lit up. You handed him the glass of water which he gave you a small sad smile in thanks. You sipped your drink, standing awkwardly near him, before he spoke up.
"You say this is my second chance." He began, voice deep as he continued, "Maybe Mahal sent me here after my death... To give me this second chance?"
You hesitated before responding, "That would explain a lot..." You mumbled.
Thorin smiled slightly, and you saw his eyes dart across the room. "It will take time to get used to this strange place. It seems we are going to be spending a lot of time together." He took a sip of his water.
"Yeah," You agreed, before smiling to yourself, "We'll figure this out, okay, Thorin?"
He nodded, staring back out the window as the stars began to fill up the sky. Deep down, he missed his home, his family. But, he knew that this place with you, he'd be able to find comfort.

I can't get over this I've shouted at the group chat about it multiple times but I need to come here I cannot with this.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU CHANGED MY NAME TO FRODO??
I mean no Ill will nor offence to any and all lord of the rings kinnies who use the English names, but I am fucking BAFFLED.
TOLKEIN YOU KNOW WHAT MY FUCKING NAME IS?? I know you know what my name is because the name you have as my "true" name feels so intimately correct, and yet you still chose to just ?? MAKE ONE UP? and not only did you make a name up, you chose FJCUCKING FRODO???? FRODO???
my name was MAURA. Pronounced mah-ur-ra, with a beautiful little tapped R. It's so graceful, the pronunciation is so nice, it makes me sound so refined. Maura Labingi, that's gorgeous. Labingi is a little goofy sounding but it looks lovely written down. And with the 'a' suffix all of our family names actually match the "la" sound, not just Bilbo having alliteration and Not Me.
Frodo fucking Baggins. I save all of middle earth and you change my name to FRODO. All the elves and shit get to keep the names from their languages, but NOOO we need to change bilba and Maura so that they have male suffixes in english, and also Maura needs a translation for his name into A WORD NOBODY ASSOCIATES WITH THE MEANING OF MY NAKE ANYWAY.
And it's not just me I'm upset about. Sam's real name is Banazîr, Ban for short. BAN... HOW CUTE IS THAT? HOW FITTING? TO BE BAN? I call him "ban" in my mind and I smile like a fool in love, as i was. Ban, I don't want to go back, ban is adorable. Do you hear me.
Kali to merry is fine, and I do like that tolkein kept his absurdly long name. And honestly I kindve vibe with "pippin" on the same level that I do Razar, pippin has a little hop step to it that fits him. But fucking Frodo. Do I look like a Frodo? Do I act like a Frodo? What crime did I commit for you to name me FRODO.
Hell they fucked over smeagol even, his real name is "Trahald." Isn't that so much nicer sounding??
I'm in shambles. To the entire world I am known as Frodo Baggins. And for what? And for why? Why did you do this to me? I understand why it was for the sake of writing and having a coherent Vibe to the hobbits that our admittedly quite fancy or exotic sounding names don't exactly hit. But you could have at least given me a name as pretty as my actual name. I need to find Sam/ban he'd back me up on this. (I know because the reason I remembered my name was Maura was because I remember Ban saying it like it was the nicest word he'd ever heard)
I don't know where I'm going with this. I'm just so Mad. I demand repentance, comeuppance a personal apology letter from tolkeins estate.

friday! 🌿
books:
(in progress) Salvation Day - Kali Wallace: I have started and not finished this book like 4 times. Which is probably a bad sign because I also didn't love the other book by this author I read. I've heard this is better though. But I couldn't pick anything else, officially DNF'd Kill Show, I skimmed a couple pages of the other book I took out of the library and I think I'm too much in A Mood to read it, so I am attempting this again.
(in progress) The Rising Storm - Cavan Scott: Not much to say, chugging along with catching up on the High Republic, extremely slowly. I'm just happy Bell and Indeera are back! Love them.
(finished) The Hobbit: Not my favorite, but I feel like it's good to revisit occasionally. Still hilarious when Tolkien kind of slips into that super epic fantasy voice, and then goes right back into 'kids adventure' tone
(in progress) The Silmarillion: Ngl, part of this reread is fueled by that person on the 'have you read this fantasy book' who for some reason didn't believe that 300 people (based on the results at the time of their comment) read The Silmarillion and accused us all of lying for clout. (which like...clout? what clout? why would I lie about this?) So I'm reading it again.
tv:
Constellations (AppleTV+): I LOVE this. LOVE it. I mean I'm always a sucker for space ghosts so that was a given, but this is really fun. The lost cosmonaut stuff, communicating through tapes, the fairy tale like elements. I love it Also my toxic trait is basically any multiverse thing I judge based on whether or not I think it could be a branch of The OA's multiverse tree and this passes that test, you can easily imagine Brit Marling and Jason Issacs chasing each other around the universes just off-screen. I only have one episode left, really interested to see where things are going (still wondering who the 'ghost' who appeared when the Soyuz disengaged from the ISS was, I have a Theory, but I'm not sure yet). Also bonus point for having some absolutely genuinely creepy scenes. I am so desensitized, it's always really fun when something manages to unsettle me.
You (Netflix): Trash fave, this is my current 'while I'm cooking/eating dinner' show, it's so cheesy but I love it. I never watched the latest season but revisiting season 1 is fun.
Under the Bridge (Hulu): Yeah so episode 1 I was like 'oh old friends? that would be hot. they'll never do it' and then episode 3 was like 'yeah they're *old friends* *wink* *they make out*' and I was like OH OK.
film:
They Cloned Tyrone (2023): I love movies where at the climax everything seems to go wrong and then it rewinds and shows you how it's really all going according to plan. Also, this was brilliant for the plan basically revolving around the villains seeing what they wanted to see, and the protagonists playing into that. And it recreated the vibe of those 70s exploitation films so well.
Palm Springs (2020): This kept appearing on 'what time loop media is your favorite' polls so I thought I'd rewatch it. Still SUCH a fun time loop movie. I did vote for it in both polls, despite the second also having 'that one episode of supernatural' as a possibility.
The Grudge (2019): ABYSMAL. Like truly terrible. I'm not saying the original US remakes were good, but they do have a special place in my heart because they were some of the first movies to really scare me. And also I thought maybe this wouldn't be so bad, I liked the Netflix Ju-On: Origins series that came out in 2020 fine despite it not getting very good reviews. But no. In this case, the reviews were correct, this was awful. In the running for the worst movie of the year and it's barely May.
The Stranger (2020): Maika Monroe has such a weird typecasting haha but I don't hate it. I learned that this was apparently supposed to be a Quibi series and was stitched back together after the fall of Quibi. It probably would have been more effective as short form content. I probably would have ate it up. But as a film it just felt like 'ok wtf is going on'.
to do:
work day: I'm hoping to get through my tasks fast so I can write on the clock. ('doesn't that mean you should be doing them and not making this post?' SILENCE.)
oh man so much writing because I set myself a deadline so now. there's that. well ok it is self-imposed and if things do go catastrophically wrong, I can JUST post the first chapter. That's for sure ready. ideally though: finish the last 2.5 chapters this weekend -> resolve comments (most of which are just 'come up with secondary character name', 'check spelling on wiki', but there is one I know I have to be clever for which...we'll see how clever I can be) -> full read-through. I'll eventually (sooner rather than later) have to rewrite the action sequences of chapter 9, but I think that should be enough to make me feel like I can start weekly posting.
I might go to my favorite thrift store tomorrow to look for some 'person who cares about their job' dresses/blouses/idk for annual corporate socializing event week
Star Wars day! lol remember how exactly a year ago I was like 'idk man, it's star wars day but I'm really not feeling it' and then had to eat my words like literally less than two weeks later? that was funny. cheers to that. Meeting my dad and brother at the movie theater and then we're going out for pizza just like it's 1999 (ok my brother was not actually there in 1999 because he was 4, but we welcome him to the nostalgia trip)
the monthly Big Clean (aka I fell behind on recycling so I have to take a lot down to the recycling bins, and the vacuum and mop are coming out)
pretend to care about my job for 3 days. Ok, no, I do care about my job in that I actually do like it and I want to do a good job, I just don't really care about like...*the company*. but I will get a lot of free food and probably wine if I pretend to care about the company for 3 days. so. fair exchange.

WELL. THEY DID THE DOGGONE THING.
Met Rings of Power's Tom Bombadil. I wrote a blog post, so needless to say, I ain't happy.
As a reminder, Tom Bombadil has been called, "...one of the most enigmatic characters in J. R. R. Tolkien's novel." He was there. They raised a couple of questions. He was a weirdo in the woods. Not my charming Tom. Anyway. Let's dive in, shall we?
I am trying not to be big mad but I am all-around displeased with this representation of one of my absolute favorite characters in all of literature.
I've been racking my brain trying to figure out how to make a live action version of Tom palatable for me.
I came to this weird realization that if they were going to interpret him in this medium and give him this vibe that I wanted so badly to like because IT'S TOM, I could have possibly accepted Squirrely Dan from Letterkenny (actor Trevor K. Wilson) and probably actually had a DRAMATICALLY SHORTER LIST of things to grumble at.
But instead, we got this presumably nice man, Rory Kinnear, a Shakespearean actor. To look him up he is very clean-shaven, in several James Bond films, and honestly, that's it. Nobody knew what to do with this character. Same dude below on either side. Nothing in that face says ENIGMATIC and UNFORGETTABLE TO THE SEASON to me. He must have come cheap. That's the only thing that makes sense.
The dialogue they gave him was so lackluster too. His singing has no wow factor. He's barely mumbling tunes under his breath. Just. Ugh. Do they not want people to fall in love with him because he's a momentary side character and then poof, he's gone? In the trilogy, he is featured in book one a few times. During one of these reunions, the hobbits meet Tom and take off all their clothes and run around in Tom's field, chasing each other and just guys being dudes. Just dudes being guys. Nothing weird happens. I know Gandalf had ties to the Hobbits, particularly the Bagginses, but TOM WAS RIGHT THERE THE WHOLE TIME. I know he didn't volunteer or want to get involved, but this dude's powerset is unreal. HERE'S HIS WHOLE SCHTICK:
1. He's older than dirt but still a pretty sprightly fellow. Always singing and doing his thing, dancing, hanging out with his hot wife (which I think they're implying is some kind of sentient water being or something weird in the show?), living in his awesome house on this beautiful piece of property that's all his. He's doing pretty gosh darn well for himself. But let's just call him old, excuse me, "The Eldest," and leave it at that, Rings of Power.
2. Oh, he's immortal. Nbd.
3. "Master of wood, water, and hill." I'm just going to take this metaphorically since it was spoken by Goldberry, River Daughter. Tommy B is the OG Clarence Carter. But real talk. Bro lives in a forest. He's around all those things that he has mastery over and he can weaponize it at will? Sweet power, but I don't buy that THAT GUY we just met can do it. I want to, but I just don't feel it. Now Galadriel during that one battle this episode- HOT DAMN! Slay while you slay, girl!
4. "He is impossible to capture or imprison." WHY ISN'T THIS GUY DOING SO MUCH MORE?! Why WOULDN'T we want a Houdini?!
5. Ordinarily described as whimsical/nonsensical, but he could be serious if the need arose.
6. THE RING HAD NO POWER OVER TOM. But Tom was just a guy who sets things down and then immediately forgets where he left them, like most of us. Gandalf recognized his "organized chaos" and recognized that TB didn't have as much order as he thought he did, had a 99% chance losing the ring, and our favorite wizard went Shire-bound. Not what I would have done, but whatever, Gandalf, go off.
7. Tom's greatest revealed power was in his singing. With song he exercised authority over Old Man Willow and the supernatural Barrow-wights. He did it LIKE IT WAS NOTHING. What are the true extents of his powers? Who all could he take on and wipe the floor with? We'll never know. Because poor lil powerless Frodo got suckered into the task thanks to Bilbo and Gandalf. Tom could have been majestic.
Moving right along... what could have been: IMMEDIATELY WHEN ISILDUR SAYS HE WON'T DESTROY THE RING, ELROND NEEDS TO TELL GANDALF, GANDALF FLIES TO TOM, EAGLES ARE HAILED, RIDDEN TO MORDOR, DROPPED THE RING DOWN THE VOLCANO, AND WATCHED IT BURN. BOOM. CREDITS ROLL.
Okay. I admit that's a much less entertaining story, but don't give me a God-man like Tom and then not use him, then give me a gorgeous show like Rings of Power, put him in, and make him meh-looking and kinda mysterious but people who know about the lore and the endgame know he's not really going to do anything. They could have at least made him more, I don’t know, ENIGMATIC, cooler, and a little more magical. (Entwives and Barrow-wights were *chef's kiss.*)
Really miniscule and bland beginning for old Tom. Hopefully it improves. The one thing I liked: he raises goats. However, that is not enough, so still he remains, #notmytombom

🔥 ermmm fantasy literature
I dont like fantasy that much sorry sorry I am not drawn to it. I mean if a book is really good I'll like it regardless but fantasy is not my choice genre. I read a fantasy book called Strange the Dreamer this summer and it was really good and the worldbuilding was really interesting but it took me WEEKS to get through because it was so unengaging for me. Also a lot of fantasy at least from what I can tell uses like a pretentious writing style like its very formal and sophisticated and thats not what I usually read either. Like Percy Jackson I remember having more humor in the voice which I liked but I also didnt finish that series bc it bored me. H*rry Pott*r I read but it also is written soo pretentiously and its pretty boring. Sorry idk why Im not a fantasy person it just doesnt appeal to me. To each their own I am very impressed by fantasy writers and readers bc the world building stuff is so complex. just not for me. I cant think of any classic fantasy besides the Hobbit/LotR and I read The Hobbit when i was like 8 so I want to read it again. I like magic realism though which has fantastical elements but is still grounded in realism....Idk i could go on but tl;dr I dont love fantasy its an impressive genre but not my vibe

15 Questions for 15 Friends
Tagged by @stuffforthestash
ARE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE? Not a real life person but my name is a Biblical name that my mom really liked. Except, when I asked her if I was named after the Bible character, she admitted that no, she really loved this one musical growing up and never got over the names of one of the characters lol So I guess I'm named after a character in a musical too
WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU CRIED? girl idek it could have been two days ago it could have been a week ago, my memory is a sieve. I don't cry often though
DO YOU HAVE KIDS? No but I want kids one day. Adopted, fostered, biological, Ima make it happen one day
WHAT SPORTS DO YOU PLAY/HAVE YOU PLAYED? I am...so very bad at sports. I have terrible depth perception and these days my knees will kill me if I tried anything high-intensity. I was a band kid lmao
DO YOU USE SARCASM? Sarcasm is a love language to me <3
WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU NOTICE ABOUT PEOPLE? Their...vibe? I don't know how to explain it. I sort of mentally categorize people in my head based on clothing/hairstyle/any makeup/etc and fit them temporarily into boxes like "sporty, professional, feminine, etc" until I start talking to them and get a better understanding of who they are
WHAT'S YOUR EYE COLOUR? Basic blue with a bit of gray
SCARY MOVIES OR HAPPY ENDINGS? I can't watch scary movies because I will dream the scenarios with me in the worst possible situation :') And I hate jumpscares. Happy endings all the way tho, love a happy ending
ANY TALENTS? I can sing really well. I used to be classically trained but between getting covid twice and not keeping up with my scales and arpeggios (lol), I've lost a bit of my former range. I can also learn the words of a song in a few hours and remember it for a long time afterward (which sucks when my brain goes into Random Jukebox mode and I get a song stuck in my head that I don't even like that much but know too well)
WHERE WERE YOU BORN? In a nondisclosed state in the American South where most days you experience all 4 seasons at once and every summer is like living in the devil's armpit (a phrase I've heard more than once from fellow southern denizens lol)
WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES? Writing, watching YouTube, playing video games...I want to get back into cooking, crafts, hiking, etc but I'm bad at managing time and where I currently live has like zero interesting hikes nearby
DO YOU HAVE ANY PETS? Two cats! Their names are Muse and Indy
HOW TALL ARE YOU? Too tall to be a hobbit but slightly shorter than the average human gal
FAVOURITE SUBJECT IN SCHOOL? English. I was also too advanced for most of my English classes, which is probably why I liked them best, because half the time I finished the work in a few minutes and spent the rest of class reading. And now I'm an English professor lol
DREAM JOB? Book writer...Honestly being an English lit professor is also a dream job but I'm working on accomplishing that so it feels less like a "dream" and more like a future reality (hopefully). But being a published author with an established fanbase?? Oh man, that IS the dream.
Thank you for the ask!! Tagging uh.....anyone who hasn't done this yet and wants to steal it. Free tag!
#ask meme#tag game#I always do free tags#like i love filling these out#but i hate tagging people because i'm like 'oh no i will bother them'#one day i'll be better about it

Multifandom fic recs!
I mentioned doing a fic recs list the other day, and since I couldn't work on my needlepoint for a while (in which I feel like Mr. Thorton's mother doing her linen embroidering in North & South), I actually did one.
This is a multifandom recs list because it was more fun to just skim through various fandom bookmarks than to do a concentrated list for one show or whatever. Also.. some of these are for fandoms I read in and some are just fics I stumbled across one day, so they could be representative of their fandoms or not I have no idea. {insert shrug emoji here}
These are also all m/m and I think.... fairly cis? I did consider doing some f/f and trans and Rules 63 stuff but uh my bookmarks are a mess. The only fandom where I set aside some genderfuckery aside in any sort of organized fashion is Les Mis with Rule 63 stuff which maybe should get its own post. ? If people wanted?
Anyway, read the tags for each story, etc
Recs across the starboard bow, captain!
Star Wars Rogue One

Breaking and Entering
Jeeves and Wooster
Misplaced
Bertie has lost something
Voltron (the… whatever the new cartoon’s subtitle was. Legendary Defender?)
(I know that fandom is a hotbed of strife) but I am not/was not involved in any of that. Yikes.)
the electric synthesized pop ballad of why keith can’t have nice things
a/b/o au... but like... he just wants to be good
The Vorkosigan Saga
This is Ivan/Byerly because that is the only ship that matters
Twenty-Year Man
Ivan's getting older and having some realizations despite himself. Also... side note but... carefully and cynically yearning Byerly is a delight.
Original, historical
Darling and the Cinderella Club
Teen Wolf --HOWEVER! These are all Teen Wolf/SGA fusion
Why? Because the space marine vibes are impeccable
All Sterek
Show You What All That Howl is For

modern AU but with magic
Adequate
The first in a small Star Trek AU series that is cute
A Reversal of Celestial Mechanics
Canon-era, Enjolras takes Grantaire up on his offers… offers Grantaire didn’t realize he was making lol
There is one where Grantaire is fucking Courf while they both discuss/hint at his feelings for Enjolras but I cannot begin to express the chaos of my bookmarks so.... couldn't find it.
And finally...
Check, Please
Dex/Nursey
Bless This Mess and Call It a Home
Magic AU
The Most Room in Our Hearts
Dex sees Nursey holding some kids and gets Feelings about it
(there is a small nurseydex commentfic with sort of a similar bent but like so many things, it was posted to tumblr then deleted so is now lost forever.)
ok this one is uhhh read the notes and tags. It is known to me and @vashti-lives as the one we don’t talk about aka the 1950s coal miners AU
Strange Lovers
And to finish up, a Ransom/Holster kink/getting together fic that was actually the first thing I read for this fandom.
When You Got Skin in the Game (you stay in the game)
I will post this to pillowfort too but I need to stop and eat first.
