Renfield probably didn't pass out from pain after getting eviscerated twice in one day because, over time, he'd unintentionally built an absolutely insane pain tolerance from all the shit he's gone through in fights and stuff like that.

Just an observation for any angsty/whumpy Renfield fans out there

So, I had this dream; I'm not gonna get into too much specifics as it was full of gross stuff. But at one point, this guy loses an arm to an explosion and pretty much ends up being rendered unconscious (note; believe it or not, the person in my dream was actually Gordon, from the "half-life" franchise)

Make your Whumpee tired.

Whumpees that have been deprived of sleep by Whumper, so much so that they don't remember how to walk in a straight line and can't figure out whether the recent appearance of little black bugs in their cell are real or a hallucination.

Whumpees that can't get a full night's rest. They doze off, only to be jolted awake by their own anxiety of not knowing when Whumper would come back. Perhaps they are awakened by phlegm-coated coughs induced by their illness. They are awakened by nightmares, or by Caregiver who is worried they may succumb to hypothermia, or by a thunderstorm, or the rough blanket scratching their open wounds, or so on.

Whumpees who pull all nighters to protect their friends or lovers.

Whumpees whose eyes burn when they finally can close their eyes. Whumpees whose muscles twitch, who can't stop yawning no matter how hard they try to stifle it. Whumpees with dark, glassy eyes. Whumpees who are slow to react or have a hard time keeping up with the conversation. Whumpees with throbbing headaches. Whumpees with brain fog and memory loss.

Whumpees who have been on the run and have over exhausted their bodies. Their muscles and joints continue to scream long after its over. Whumpees with extensive blood loss. Whumpees who are malnourished.

Whumpees whose survivor's guilt keeps them awake, wondering what they might have done differently, whether it was all their fault, or why they were the ones to live.

Whumpees whose bodies are in chronic pain or illness and who have to hide it, causing muscle and mental fatigue. They keep going with a smile until they collapse or pass out.

Whumpees who break down in tears, begging to be left alone so they can rest. Whumpees who sob when they are told that the bed in front of them is theirs to use whenever they want.

when a living weapon whumpee only takes orders from ONE person. They’ve been conditioned to ignore everyone else’s orders. This means that after rescue, the team can barely get whumpee to drink or allow them bandage their injuries. One of the teammates manages to imitate whumpee’s handler by deepening their voice.

They stay out of whumpee’s line of sight, standing behind their hospital bed. “Drink this,” they snap, hating how they have to command this broad-shouldered ghost of a person. Without their armor, without their mask, whumpee looks like a wraith. There’s nothing behind their eyes. They play with the hospital blanket with twitching hands that have strangled and maimed.

When whumpee hears the order they stiffen to attention and take the cup offered with those still-shaking hands. But the cup slips through their fingers and lands in a puddle on the tiles.

They immediately tense up, shoulder blades flung so far back they touch. Their breathing quickens, waiting.

But nothing happens.

They give whumpee a new glass of cold water. This time, they lift the cup to whumpee’s lips and hold it steady, with one hand behind their head for support.

So. As many of you know, I disappeared last month without warning. That's due to me being hospitalized after a mental break due to my mom and her friends' harassment, both online and offline.

My father and I are planning on moving out, but since I was hospitalized, we're struggling not only with current bills, but also medical bills.

so, what if she finds him hiding in the hayloft and he’s horrifically injured (and also poisoned) and she has to heal him, but she’s not super great at it yet and it’s excruciating for him and he has to be quiet because if anyone else finds him he’ll be taken back to the people who tortured him and want him to be a weapon of mass destruction for them and he’s really scared and just wants to be free and he also thinks she’s really pretty but tries to hide it bc it confuses him and she feels like he’s a lost cat she needs to nurse back to health. what then?

Whumpee getting shoved and slapped and slaps back and suddenly it's them vs whumper

Or whumpee saying something too hilarious at whumper's expense and whumper decided to beat the fuck out of them

Inside of a gang so the honor system says it's 1 on 1 but whumpee has no real chance because if they start winning, the gang will pull them off and hold them down so whumper can beat the shit out of them

Whumpee losing and whumper getting up, panting, and grabbing a whip, "you wanted to see what I'd do? Here's what I'll do"

Gang holding whumpee back, snarling and spitting insults and, maybe even just spit, as whumper hastily, angrily gets on their brass knuckles

Whumpee on the ground getting kicked by everyone's boots

"wait wait," boss pushes the gang back. "Let me." ->one harder kick that makes whumpee cry out

Whumper to whumpee who has given up, aiming a kick: "hold still." *Yelp of pain* "I'm not stopping until I get one good one in! Now hold still!"

"No, no, no. You just coughed up blood. You can't convince me you're fine no matter what you say." + Whumpee

"'S fine, it... happens. Sometimes."

"Fine. Just... ugh, water? Hate the taste."

Honorary non-dialogue response of [tries to protest, but proceeds to cough their lungs up]

"Gnk. Fuck. Hurts, this does."

"Gotta--work, things to do. I can't breathe--"

Whumpee got seriously injured, and died while Caretaker was holding them.

They did manage to bring them back to life, though, and everyone is fussing over Whumpee, their recovery and well-being.

But what about Caretaker?

Who had to feel their loved one go limp and stop breathing in their arms? Who can't stop hearing Whumpee's "last words" echoing in their head?

Who will wake up in the middle of the night to make sure Whumpee's chest is still rising and falling?

Who has to hold on to Whumpee as much as they can, just to feel their pulse on their fingertips?

Who is obviously, completely fine, because Whumpee is the wounded one, and they are still alive, after all.

So what's the big deal?

Ok but consider. Living weapon whumpee, but instead of a soldier they’re a healer.

A whumpee who was born with immense healing powers, and now every dangerous threat in the world wants them, because if they can’t get hurt, they’re invincible.

Maybe that makes it hard to trust anyone. Whose to say that Caretaker won’t just use them to heal up their wounds like a tool.

Or, do they meet Whumper first. Whumper, who uses them to torture other whumpees, having them healed so they can withstand much more torture from Whumper. Perhaps they’re under threat, or perhaps they’ve lost control of their own body.

The healing process probably hurts the other Whumpees. Having their bones moved around and their cuts closed at a fast rate might not feel so good. Or, it could take ages, and be agonisingly slow. That’s always an option.

Such a strong power surely takes it out of Whumpee too. Do they feel the pain of the person they’re healing? Does it exhaust them to the brink of death? A lot of possibilities there.

Maybe Whumper decides to bring them along on missions. Whumpee is subject to all the horrors of the battlefield, untrained for this and Whumper knows it. But they have to keep it together, or else Whumper will have to stop their tool from malfunctioning, since it’s far too expensive to just replace.

Also consider: Whumpee can only be in one place at a time. That’s not convenient. An easy fix though, if Whumper can just find out what gives Whumpee their powers, soon they can have more and more healing tools in no time. A shame that the experiments will sting just a smidgeon.
