Make your Whumpee tired.
Whumpees that have been deprived of sleep by Whumper, so much so that they don't remember how to walk in a straight line and can't figure out whether the recent appearance of little black bugs in their cell are real or a hallucination.
Whumpees that can't get a full night's rest. They doze off, only to be jolted awake by their own anxiety of not knowing when Whumper would come back. Perhaps they are awakened by phlegm-coated coughs induced by their illness. They are awakened by nightmares, or by Caregiver who is worried they may succumb to hypothermia, or by a thunderstorm, or the rough blanket scratching their open wounds, or so on.
Whumpees who pull all nighters to protect their friends or lovers.
Whumpees whose eyes burn when they finally can close their eyes. Whumpees whose muscles twitch, who can't stop yawning no matter how hard they try to stifle it. Whumpees with dark, glassy eyes. Whumpees who are slow to react or have a hard time keeping up with the conversation. Whumpees with throbbing headaches. Whumpees with brain fog and memory loss.
Whumpees who have been on the run and have over exhausted their bodies. Their muscles and joints continue to scream long after its over. Whumpees with extensive blood loss. Whumpees who are malnourished.
Whumpees whose survivor's guilt keeps them awake, wondering what they might have done differently, whether it was all their fault, or why they were the ones to live.
Whumpees whose bodies are in chronic pain or illness and who have to hide it, causing muscle and mental fatigue. They keep going with a smile until they collapse or pass out.
Whumpees who break down in tears, begging to be left alone so they can rest. Whumpees who sob when they are told that the bed in front of them is theirs to use whenever they want.

"It's not your fault," said to Whumpee is cool and all.
But what if it's said by Whumpee as they slowly bleed? To Whumper?
Are they saying it to stop the torture? To avoid further punishment? Do they see Whumper overwhelmed with guilt and know it would turn into anger that would make their life so much worse? Have they already experienced it? Do they accept the words as what they need to say to survive, even as they feel like bile on their tongue?
«Whumper was a disgusting, insane person with mood swings bigger than anything Whumpee had ever seen. They could go from apathy to fury, from crying pitifully to throwing plates around and at Whumpee in a matter of seconds. Whumpee had to learn and adapt, tip-toeing around their sensibilities and struggling to find the right words to pacify them.
The thing they hated most, though, was when Whumper cried about them.
"I treat you so awfully, you would have already left if you had the chance," they sobbed out.
Whumpee's blood always boiled at that. 'Of course!' they wanted to scream. They did, the first few times. It only worked to make them pick up the whip all over again. "It's not your fault," they say instead now.
"Will you stay with me forever?" Whumper fishes for more kind words, tears glistening wetly. "Do you love me?"
"...I do," they lie.»
Or do they believe it? Do they blame themself for their own suffering? Do they think they've done something so wrong they deserved to be hurt? Was it years of conditioning that led them there? Is Whumper someone they loved? A friend? Family? Someone they trust enough to accept the punishment as something they earned?
«"I'm so sorry for hurting you like this," Whumper sobs, and Whumpee is overwhelmed with shame and guilt more painful than the still bleeding wound they're trying to close. Whumper had provided them with shelter and food, spent so much effort trying to make them good even as they failed over and over. They deserved a better pet.
"It's not your fault," they whisper and feel tears burn their eyes. They hug Whumper, careful to keep blood away from their clothing. They hate blood so much, after all. If only Whumpee was good enough to never force their hand like this.»
Are they a child, brought up so used to rules and punishments, hearing their parent cry so often they know it's the cue for them to burst with shame? I know personally how a child young enough would beg to be punished before blaming their parents for the way they are treated. Perhaps, Whumpee has never known better. Perhaps, in the world they live in, around the people who are everything to them, it is their fault.
«Seeing Mommy cry was the worst thing in the world. It made Whumpee feel like crying too, crying even harder, their heart feeling like it would burst at any second. They pulled in without hesitation, shaking from the desperation to make it better. "It's not your fault," they pleaded. "I'm sorry for being such a bad child today."
They belatedly realized their blood was staining Mommy's clothes when they pressed in like this.»

I love a whumper that hems and haws about how, well, they don’t really want to hurt whumpee but it’s a punishment and how else will they learn how to behave if they’re allowed to do whatever they’d like without consequences?
If whumpee does anything from trying to escape, to name calling, maybe even just being a bit sarcastic, anything whumper doesn’t approve of, it’s just pain in store for them. Even struggling during their punishments can get them in trouble, depending on whumper’s mood
Whumpee is on edge, not ever really sure what whumper’s limits are sometimes. And that cold dread that settles in their stomach when whumper gives them that disappointed look and sighs.
And maybe one day, whumpee just gives up. They don’t struggle against their bonds, they don’t plead for the pain to end, they hardly even cry out. Once it’s all over, whumper smiles and strokes their cheek. Isn’t it so much nicer when they can behave properly?

Whump prompt #5
A Human weapon whumpee was trained to kill/ kidnap people with a face reference. So when he is rescued, they avoid looking at anyone, always turning his back and not wanting anyone to approach them. They have been looking at that list o faces for so long, killed so many of those... Sometimes they still sees those faces in other people's bodies. They are trying to get in control of themselves, but they are afraid they might see an "enemy face" and trigger them to attack.
Bonus if whumper is a supernatural creature
Like a wolf, a vampire or a doppleganger
Werewolf whumpee in this situation would be trying their hardest to never transform, or hold the transformation in a more harmless stage
They would also probably avoid eating meat, it reminds them of the bodies they ate.
Vampire whumpee begs to be blindfolded before feeding from someone.
Both enticed and extremely repulsed by the smell of blood. They seem to almost puke but then start to salivate over it.
Doppleganger whumpee starts to shift into different people (his past victims) by accident whenever triggered.
I can also imagine this working for robot whumpee
They have a specific word/ sentence/ alarm/ switch/ button that trigger them.
They can only be brought back to normal with a password/switch/ button.
Face recognition failing
Probably asked for face recognition to be deactivated entirely, so whenever they look someone in the eye, they don't know who they are, they see them and maybe able k vaguely describe their features, but cannot tell who they are or if they have ever met.
(tho they might have other ways of figuring it out, like through their voice/ clothes/ digitals/ etc...) (Or no...)
Yes this was based on 🍌 🐟

Whump Drabble: Conditioning
I was thinking about this one all last night. So like conditioning. I occasionally see it within the whump community, but it's still heavily on my mind and I feel I have something to add over it.
Conditioning is a term primarily used for animals, especially with the concepts of shock collars, where a dog become conditioned to not leave the yard because they expected to be shocked even if they no longer have the collar. Unfortunately for the complexity that is the human brain, humans can be conditioned too, and history/science has shown it.
Fortunately for us whump writers that the kind of human biology that interests us! So...conditioning in whump.
Of course I have another against the classic conditioning through electrical shock trope. I see it a good bit in the whump community, and it's great. Whumpees adamant against something, even though there is actually no threat. You have caretaker desperately trying to undo someone else's past work, and whumpers who don't have to lift a finger to get whumpee to listen to them anymore.
(Even greater if a defiant whumpee returns with this trait)
However conditioning isn't just through punishment, nor does it have to be classic electric shock. It could also be through awarding >:3
Imagine caretaker having to use the awarding system whumper set up, just so that they themselves could help break the system whumpee has been caught up in. Imagine whumpee relaxing at the activation of the award, compared to seizing up at the notion of punishment.
Whumpee being none the wiser about their own conditioning, thinking themselves crazy when something as simple as a static shock sends them into a spiral. Imagine the embarrassment of a leader whumpee, or a stoic whumpee (or both, both is good), when they burst into a frantic mess in front of their own team, and they don't even know me.
Whumper utilizing both awards and punishments to get whumpee to be exactly how they want them, then once their free everything good whumper showered them in as awards are ruined for whumpee. Caretaker is having quite the struggle to get whumpee to enjoy anything.
Conditioning whumpee to sounds and not just sparks of electricity. Awarding whumpee with sugar, or warmth, or physical touch. Whump with conditioning

What are some of your personal favorites for psychological whump/conditioning?
boy HOWDY
whumpees being fully convinced they don’t deserve any form of kindness, even getting angry with caretakers who try to provide it
whumpees being trained as a weapon and never being told otherwise
caretaker who was NOT trained for this and whumpee is breaking down what do they do what do they do
“yes, sir”
whumpee who immediately assumes caretaker wants to “discipline” them so they fall into position. caretaker is horrified. (all time favorite)

Scare your whumpee
(some conditioned/pet whump ideas here)
Choke them until their eyes widen and pupils dilate with panic
Snap your whip over their head just to watch them flinch
Tell them you're going to stop at 5 lashes. Listen to them beg and wail when you don't
Give them contradictory orders and watch them struggle to decide what to do
Like order them not to speak, then say "I didn't hear a 'yes sir'!" And watch their mouth open and close in terror
Give them ambiguous looks so they have no idea if you're pissed or not, what is awaiting them later?
Fake emotional explosions--yell and then get really close and watch them flinch and stutter and apologize
Give them hope. Tell them you won't punish them this time, if they can just keep from pissing you off for 10 minutes. Watch them walk on eggshells.
Tell them to convince you why you shouldn't hurt them
Quiz them on their actions. Who knows, maybe they'll admit to something you can punish them for! And meanwhile you get to watch them tremble in terror about whatever they think they did wrong.
Punish them for showing emotion. watch them struggle to contain their fear.

On conditioned whumpees...
Y'know, I think one of the things that people get wrong with conditioned whumpees is their rules. Specifically, when a whumpee was in long term captivity/training and they later get released or escape.
Most people write them as latching onto a caretaker or new whumper, and begging for new rules so they know they're doing something right. A new set of laws to live by, a new framework to behave to.
And that's... not really how conditioning works.
Conditioning means automatic reactions. Your body doing something that was trained into you without consulting your brain first.
There is no decision making. There is no choice. The trigger hits, and you are immediately performing the correct action regardless of anything else.
You're told to kneel? Your knees have already hit the ground. You're supposed to be standing in one part of the house when a certain noise is made? You've launched into movement before you even realize what you heard.
These rules are woven into the fabric of your body. And they are insurmountable. The conditioning overrides emotion, internal conflict, hesitation, beliefs, wants... everything.
Your whumpee may very well hate what is being done to them, and after the moment has passed they're cursing themself and their whumper. They're still a person on the inside. And that person is still very much alive. Most of the time, they will have some level of awareness that what's being done to them is wrong. They'll be angry. They'll be hurt. And they will hate that there is nothing they can do about it.
But the next time that trigger occurs, the response still hits them exactly the same.
So now take your whumpee out of that situation. They ran away, were rescued, were sold. They got out. Now they're with new people, a new caretaker, a new whumper. Or they're on their own and trying to make their own way in the world.
But those conditioned responses are still there.
There's no turning them off. You don't just replace them with new rules. They are in your every fibre. They have been built into the very framework of who you are.
The next time someone says the word "kneel", your knees are on the ground again. No matter where you are, or who you're with. The response happens before you can stop it. If they don't know why, everyone looks at you like you're insane. And you feel like you are.
Deconditioning is an agonizing process that takes more effort than I can even begin to describe to someone who's never experienced it.
Every time they hit that trigger, that response will still be there. Over, and over, and over, and over.
Breaking those rules down takes YEARS. And it is a constant effort that the whumpee has to choose to undergo every single time. Progress is measured milimeter by milimeter. You're told to kneel, and you kneel. You're told to kneel, and your mind catches up with the fact that you already did it— but a little sooner than it did before. Then a split second sooner. Then as you're doing it. Then you feel the impulse just before your knees hit the ground. Then you have a split-second of resistance before you go down. On and on and on and on, inching toward progress despite the fact that you're fighting with all your might. And that progress is anything but linear.
You don't just start obeying new rules. You don't latch on to your caretaker's new way of doing things and drop everything that you were conditioned to do before. These rules don't just get replaced.
Conditioning is not a belief system. It's a flinch response. Programmed deeper than the instincts you were born with.
You can be ordered not to obey the old command, and moments later when the trigger comes, you will anyway. Because in conditioning, the action comes before the choice.
These rules, these laws of your existence, come above everything else. And if your new whumper wants to replace them, they are going to have to beat the new rules into you so often and so severely that the pain becomes stronger than the old conditioning. At which point, the newly desired response will very, very slowly start to take over.
You're not swapping out new rules. You're layering new, worse conditioning on top of the old. And your brain will spend time stuck in that split-second between both responses before one finally grows stronger than the other. And even then, the change will not happen quickly.
That is what your conditioned whumpee is up against. That is what makes it such a horrible—HORRIBLE— and powerful tool.

Recaptured living weapon Whumpee who is about to face the consequences of their escape. And when Whumper brings them back into that painfully familiar room, when they calmly take out the whip, Whumpee knows precisely what to do.
Their feet take them to the middle of the room, and they kneel, methodically disposing of their shirt. As their shoulders roll back into a straightened position, they can practically feel Whumper's gaze burning into the back of their head. A sadistic, eyes-only smile, knowing that even though Whumpee was physically free for some time, they never truly escaped.

I’ve been in a terribly whumpy mood lately, so please for your consideration, imagine a whumpee that’s been so heavily conditioned by whumper that they can’t really function without rules and orders, and now imagine a caretaker that will actually do that. I see so much where the caretaker tries to break whumpee out of that mindset, but what about a caretaker who just doesn’t have the time or resources to break the conditioning, and so their next best option is to just… go along with it?
whumpee won’t eat or drink or sleep without being ordered to? caretaker puts rules in place that require whumpee to do those things at set times, and the consequences for missing one of those times (because you know whumpee won’t accept that there are rules without punishments for breaking them) is to do that thing in the company of caretaker. whumpee misses their lunchtime? now they have to sit with caretaker to make sure they actually eat the food set out for them. it’s a consequence that doesn’t actually harm them, and one that will subtly reinforce that caretaker values whumpee’s wellbeing, without seeming like a cop-out.
caretaker knows that whumpee has been irrevocably changed by their experiences under the hand of whumper, and they know that the trauma incurred isn’t something that can easily be contradicted or fixed. they know whumpee is damaged, and they know it isn’t something they can help with right now, but that doesn’t mean they’re going to give up and leave whumpee behind, or expect whumpee to just bounce back on their own. caretaker wants whumpee to be safe and healthy, so they’re going to do their best to make that happen, even if they have to utilize the very conditioning that whumper put in place to make that happen.

Misplaced guilt.
They should have done something (in a situation where they couldn't).
They should have known (there was no reality where they could have known).
They should've been better (they were so young).
They have to apologize in every possible moment (they shouldn't apologize for anything).
They deserve to be punished for their mistakes (they had no choice in making them).
Just. Guilt complexes. Yes please.

Kennel training for a pet whumpee:
The most important thing to remember when kennel training a dog is that the kennel shouldn't be a punishment. The kennel should be safe and feel like home.
Whumpee's kennel is comfortable. They can't stand or even sit up fully, but there's a lightly cushioned floor and a soft blanket and maybe even a pillow. They can't fully stretch out, but they only have to bend their legs or curl their back a little. They're allowed to rest.
People don't do as well with confinement as dogs, though. It's important not to create a negative association with the kennel if you want to be kind to your pet. So you need to make them happy with being confined.
It's best to use the kennel as a reward and a source of relief. When Whumpee behaves well, they're permitted to sleep in their kennel instead of on the hard floor or in heavy chains. When Whumpee is punished, the end of the punishment can be signified by letting them into their kennel to recuperate. If punishment lasts multiple days, place them in the kennel to rest between sessions. They will not want to leave.
Whumpee will become very grateful for their kennel and very happy to be confined. Kennel training is an excellent idea for whumpers who don't want their pets to fuss about being trapped in a tiny cage for hours and hours.

Whumper with a guilty complex about enjoying causing pain
When they’re done beating Whumpee, they break down and wail about how horrible they are for enjoying this, maybe even blaming Whumpee for aggravating them to this point
Whumpee learning, eventually, that these breakdowns go by faster if they reassure Whumper that they aren’t disgusting, that it’s really not all that bad. All as they sit in a puddle of their own blood and holding back tears of pain
Whumpee gets rescued after a while, and it’s been long enough of it that they tell their rescuers that really Whumper isn’t such a bad person, if they were that horrible surely they couldn’t cry at the things they did?
Whumper manipulating Whumpee, maybe even unconsciously, to come right back of their own choice

Pet shelter whump (interactive)
ask for blond to help
The blonde kneels to his level and attempts to touch his sholder, but he recoils. his muttering is getting lower as he rubs the right side of his face with his hand.
"I can't... no more... already..." there are the only audible words you could piece together.
"we'll just bathe, ok?" the blonde rubs his back despite him flinching
You walk to the bathtub and splash some of the water. you tell him It's warm and confortable. the brunette peeks through his sholder, his glare is very suspicious of you, eventhoght he doesn't seem sure of where you are exactly.
"no...it burns..." the brunette whispers turning his back again, his hand, now touching the bandages at his abdomen.
"here, feel the water first..." the blonde pulls him to the bathtub, the brunette seems to resist a little, but not as much as before.
the blonde pulls his hand to the surface of the water as repeats that everything is ok. The brunette, seemed to be calming down at first but suddenly goes back to trying to pull away full force.
"no! NO! please! noo! n-!... huh..." he pleads until his fingertips reach the water. He stops to think for a moment. the blonde smiles
You ask the brunette if the water is in a good temperature. he peeks at you again and imediantly starts to untie the bandages through his body, strugling a lot to do it on his own, so the blonde helps him take it of.
You look away for a moment, letting them have their privacy to take of the underware and get in.
The blonde is the first one to get in and dip his head in the water, the brunette enters slowly, still unsure of the water. you accidently turn back to them to soon. and he is still getting in. the glance you took of his body is just... terrible.
You feel bad for thinking that, but, there was a reason for the bandages, clearly... what did they do to him...?
You couldn't see his back very well but the chest had huge burnt scars spreading all over it in a similar pattern to his face, it's impossible to tell what happened, a few smaller dots seem to have been done with cigarettes.
you look away imedtiately and only turn back when you hear the small splashes of them sitting down.
"master... um..." the blond calls you "can we have the duckie?" asks pointing at the rubber duck on a shelf
you smile and put the rubber toy on the water.
You pick up the soap, the shapoo and conditioner. you decide that perheaps it would be better to wash the blonde first, so the brunette can 'see' what's going to happen. You start to scrub the blonds arms and chest as he makes little waves pushing the rubber duck around, noticing that the brunette seems very interested in it.
You tell him it's a rubber duck.
"hm? the... um... yellow...?" you reply positively and push the duck closer to him as you move your hands through the blond's hair. It's very matted, you though it was 'dirty blonde' but it trully is just dirt, where did they even keep these pets?
the brunette seems a little unsure of the toy.
"is dead?" he doesn't seem alarmed just curious. You reply that no "but... It does not quack..."
You take a deep breath and tell him it's a toy, not a real duck, he doesn't seem to understand very well, but is still pleased by it's presence, soon he starts to play with it himself, making little splashes even grabbing the duck for a while, studing the texture.
Tumblr media
you turn your attention to the blond again, when he winces in pain. you ask him what's wrong. before the response could leave his mouth you notice the spot you were scrubing, there is a deep scar on the scalp, looks very surgical, almost unoticeble, hidden under his hair.
"um... it doesn't hurt..." the blonde laughs unconfortable.
You decide not to touch on that right now, let's unpack their issues later on, they just got here...
You finish with the blond and decide to let him clean his lower half. the moment you approach the brunette he glances at your direction, but then looks back at the duck, almost like a warning 'I hear you' but somewhat feels like progress 'I'm ok with you near me'. He even seems to relax more when you massage and scrub his hair, thoght goes back to his usual tension once you finish it.
You give them a towel each and wait for them to get dry. the dryer's noise stratles them a little, but the blonde seems to somewhat accept it, but you notice him covering the scalp on the scar's spot as you dry his hair. for the brunette, you decide to disable the heat, he doesn't seem to like hot things near him. he still covered his face and ears, even shaking a bit, when it got too close to him he grabbed the blonde for support.
after you finish with them in the bathroom you decide to let them rest on the couch for a while.
