Whose Egg is That? Review
Whose Egg is That?
Darrin Lunde
Illustrated by Kelsey Oseid
Review
It’s a beautiful blue color, but whose egg is that? Throughout this picture book, readers are given a picture of an egg, a bit of information about said egg, and then told to guess who the egg belongs to. Both Lunde and Oseid do an excellent job at educating about different types of eggs and the creatures that lay them in a simple, yet fun book. The illustrations were created by simply using gouache and paper, but are very realistic and eye-catching in style. One unique facet of the illustrations of the eggs is that they are representative of their actual size in real life. There is a lot of variety in terms of the creatures that are covered within this book. There various types of birds, turtles, platypuses, and even dinosaur egg fossils featured within the story. This range can be used to teach children that not just birds are able to lay eggs and that eggs themselves are very diverse and unique. The format of the book lends itself well to asking children questions, as the point of it is to guess who each egg belongs to. Parents and caretakers are also able to use this book as an opportunity to ask other questions having to do with the eggs and their physical characteristics such as size, shape, and color. Following the guessing portion of the book is a section providing miscellaneous egg facts. There is a specific fact in this section about natural history museums and how they preserve different types of eggs, which can lead to an additional educational opportunity. The author of this book is extremely qualified and credible within the field of animals. Lunde has worked as a mammalogist at the American Museum of Natural History for more than twenty years and is currently the mammal collection manager at the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History. This author and illustrator pair has also created two similar books, Whose Poop is That? and Whose Footprint is That?, both of which are recommended to read alongside this book. Overall, this book is an excellent educational tool for young children interested in learning about animals in the world around them.

Whose Egg is That? by Darrin P. Lunde
This is a nice back-and-forth book, perfect for conversation with a caregiver.
Tumblr media
The left side has large letters and simple words. The right side has smaller font with explanatory sentences. It's a question-and-answer style, with much repetition: “Whose egg is that?” “A robin's.” “Whose egg is that?” “A penguin's.”
Learn about animals and their eggs, all in this gentle conversational style.
Check out Whose Egg is That from LCPL
This book helps kids build:
Print Motivation: Because learning is fun! This books can spark interest in book-learning and the natural world.
Narrative Skills: There is NO narrative in this plotless book, but there IS much repetition; consequently there is a pattern and the chance for the book to play around with expectations.
Letter Knowledge: Simple words, large font, and the chance to repeat and learn
Vocabulary: Learn animals and the words that describe them.
This book will help kids practice talking, reading, and playing. The book itself can be a conversation, and it is also a guessing game. Can you find clues in the pictures?
Extend the book with themed play!
Tumblr media
A sensory bin offers a tactile and hands-on experience. Take any kind of container—wide, shallow bins are nice, but even a bucket will do—and fill it with themed items that are fun to touch.
I used bird seed as my base, since it has an unusual texture, and it is easy to bury things in it and dig them up again.
I also put in a variety of objects. Eggs, of course, were first; and these are hollow, so that I could hide surprises inside them.
I used magnet letters, stuffed animals, straw, and even pine cones and seashells.
Tumblr media
Kids will enjoy this sort of open-ended play, and so much of it supports early literacy: kids talk and play, and they make up stories about the toys and hidden items, and they even interact with letters and words.

say what you will about political genius cersei lannister but history will remember her progressive reforms (inventing the idea of firing the kingsguard, elevating bastards to the small council, probably like doubling the funding to STEM research between qyburn and the pyromancers, setting the tower of the hand on fire, etc.) thats the first queen of westeros and its first ever ruler to not have any targaryen blood (unless).

i also just want to point out the qsmp members' commitment to like never letting the inactive members die. like dantdm logged on twice and is canonically dead and everyone continues to blame mysterious happenstance on him. spreen is canonically dead and yet people are still like namedropping him even tho the house façade he built has been demolished and also probably consumed by a mountain. they meme on kameto who's barely been on except that time he was a fed spy that was iconic as hell. they just immortalize their members and they're always so happy to see old faces come back and it lowkey makes me emotional lmfaoo like missa barely logged on for a while but goddamn nobody forgot his name bc philza can't go one day without mentioning him and mariana barely logs on but every time fit saw the homeless mariana in roier's city no matter what he'd stop dead and tell it "come home" and when slime came back to the server for elections after having logged off for the last like two months everyone was still excited to meet him bc the others had kept his memories on the server fresh and alive, maxo died canonically in the nuke and pierre pasted his face all over the server, luzu vanished for months and we never forgot him either thanks to the computers and foolish's wack ass family tree. like when purgatory teams were chosen and team red constantly joked about how it would be so over for the other teams once germán logged on despite the fact that germán had only ever logged on ONCE, the way they cheered when they snatched rubius in the split of green despite the fact that rubius hadn't logged on more than twice since march. they just keep the names alive all the time and it's like
it just makes me really happy to see. like it makes me really happy. like the admin team and the members alike are like 'no way in HELL are we letting your memory go' like damn once ur on isla quesadilla you really are stuck as an islander forever :D

Prompt 60
Danny would like everyone to know that this was not his fault. It’s not his fault that another amulet got lost in the human realm (thank you Aragon, he hates you for this) nor is it his fault it’s been broken! He was just going to take it from the museum and was both invisible and intangible! It’s not his fault another thief got there first alongside a vigilante and they panicked when seeing the amulet started floating. It is so not his fault that there is now an entire city of dragon… dragon shifters… whatever! And it’s not his fault he’s stuck as a baby dragon right where the the amulet shattered, which leads to misunderstandings. How was he supposed to know this wasn’t his world and the english isn’t the same?!

i see you tagging Joker Persona5 (his christian name) on that crossdressing post but . . . Have you written him crossdressing-
Lala scrutinises him for a long moment before plucking a fresh q-tip from the packet and smudging his Cupid's bow. Ren feels pampered--observed--the way he might if he were a doll, but it's not an altogether bad feeling. It's kind of nice. Definitely not the worst way he's been observed this year. Far from it, really.
"I think you're decent," Lala decides.
He'd expected, maybe, some level of surprise from her when he'd asked her about this. Some lighthearted teasing, perhaps? Shouldn't have. She's a consummate professional. It's almost a shame, because maybe if she'd interrogated him about it he'd be forced to verbalise what exactly this feeling is. Now he's just going to have to figure himself out without the comparative comfort of doing someone a favour.
Lala turns him to the mirror.
No grand revelations there. It's Ren in the glass, it's just Ren in a dress. He doesn't feel any different. Doesn't feel any nicer, doesn't feel more right, any more himself. Just Ren in a dress.
Prettier, though.
He adjusts his belt, self-conscious.
"You like the colour?" Lala asks him. She's still holding the lipstick; it's a sweet, cool red. She's businesslike. "We could go darker if you want, but you're young. Bright is good."
"I like it," Ren says.
"Dress isn't too tight?"
"No."
"How you feeling?"
Mostly the same. A little more painted. It's been a year of finding comfort in some kind of veneer like it's a trade. Hiding his eyes to swap vulnerability for a roguish streak, for instance, or for a bit of plausible deniability. His glasses are off now. He'd asked, but the false lashes were too long and they'd smudge the lenses, or so said Lala. And of course the domino mask is nowhere to be found. Ren's face is exposed. But it's painted.
He tilts his head and watches his mirror self do the same, inquisitive like a bird of paradise. The gloss makes his lips look pursed all the time. Lala's shadowed his eyes, too, made them glittery and hooded. It's a wide-eyed look that makes him look curious and mysterious all at once. Doesn't look like him, but it does. Feels like meeting a twin and then taking her place.
Lala is watching him. She's too professional to let that knowing expression pierce her own immaculate makeup.
"You're coping well with those heels," she offers, and does not ask further.
"Thanks," says Ren. "I think I can take my shift now."
"Watch that lippie if you eat or drink," she warns him. "It'll smear. Anything else you want, hon?"
His mirror self tilts her head again, coy. No mask. Joker winks out from a sparkle in her eye.
"Do you have gloves?" Ren asks.

Zoro fights a lot with just 2 swords now instead of heading straight for the three sword style. Like I know he would uses only two swords previously for some things and he even had some 2 and 1 sword style moves but that was mainly just cutting obstacles. But now even in fights with some weight to them he uses 2 swords for the majority of it and then 3 sword style to finish them off (like with pica or lucci)
Which I never really noticed before but makes total sense now giving who he trained with for 2 years .
This is his evolution of Mihawk fighting lesser opponents with his knife. He’s learning restraint. Because if Zoro was going to learn anything from Mihawk in the two years they spent together. It was going be how to stunt on fools.

So how do you feel about all this…shiny breeding discourse??
Alright, this is gonna be a controversial one.
I'm putting a cut here because it explains some gross birthing processes, and I dont want to make anyone queasy. For anyone who doesn't want to read it, the tldr; no. I hate breeding for shinies bcuz of what it leads to.
I have.... very strong opinions on shiny breeding. On one hand, in theory, you're doing what most breeders do, right? You're breeding pokemon to get an acquired trait that you want. The people at @pokemonpetfinder do that all the time. But the difference is that the shinism gene is so, so rare. And by continuing to breed these pokemon for a shiny, you have a lot of extra eggs and babies and a tired mother/parents.
Okay, so you drop the eggs or babies off at shelters, so no harm done, right? But due to how rare shiny pokemon are (1/8,192) you have so MANY extra babies/eggs, and the shelters near you can't possibly take all of them. Overpopulation at shelters can become an issue, and that's when euthanasia starts.
But okay, fine. Lets say the shelters are ablw to care for them. What about the egg-laying/birthing pokemon? We don't talk enough about how much damage carrying eggs can do to your body. I'm using Venomoth as an example here, because I've seen a situation like this with a Venomoth. Do you know how big Venomoth eggs are compared to them? I'll show you
Tumblr media
Doesn't seem like much, right? That's until you realize that being moths, the lay a lot of eggs at time, sometimes up to 20 in one litter. You ever seen a gravid venomoth? They get super big, and it's painful. They can't fly because it's too heavy too, so they just have to wait until they can lay their eggs. And the hole is small and has to expand so much to get an egg out. Do you really want to put a venomoth through that, over and over again?
And even it's not a venomoth situation, where the eggs are normal for the egg-laying mother's size, gravid/pregnancy and birthing is still the worst. Nursing can be painful, headaches, sorness, tiredness, irrability, raging hormones that can effect your mood, etc, etc. You really want to put a pokemon through that over and over? That can be traumatizing for them! Trust me; I've seen shiny breeding facilities. Even with drugs used to get the shinism gene (I'll save that for a different post), it's still rare, and the mother's still have to go through so much. It's horryifiying entering one of those places.
But it's fine. You got your shiny. That's what matters, right?
