If you like cows, ponies, sheep, horses, noble paladins and their faithful steads, mysterious entities dispensing heroic powers, small-town bickering, redemption arcs, wobbly-kneed bravery in the face of dire peril, snaggly-toothed possum monsters, bovines learning lessons about humility and the importance of civic cooperation, mayoral elections, wishing wells-
-well, wow! Those are really specific things to like, but hey, me too! If you want to see all of those things in one book, do check out The Grandest Tales of Clementine, and consider supporting the Kickstarter. The Kickstarter ends July 31st, and I’m really hoping it will fund so I can bring this book into the world. There’s a digital option there as well, if you want the budget friendly version!

Praise for Katherine Rundell's new nonfiction bestiary of extraordinary animals, VANISHING TREASURES
“Whether she is writing about a jumping spider, a hedgehog, or the curious, pine-cone-like mammals known as a pangolin, Katherine Rundell stuns us with wonders. Each of her essays is a polished gem—and each will leave you newly smitten with love for life.” —Sy Montgomery, New York Times bestselling author of The Soul of an Octopus

I'm curious if anyone has any list about certain cliches or common tropes in other xenofiction series.

One of my coworkers pulled this book aside for me yesterday after talking about beavers for a bit and I got so excited it’s unreal.
Anyway, I’ll be reading “Beaver Land: How One Weird Rodent Made America” by Leila Philip.

Last post for today isn't Mice but rather a book recommendation.
I picked this one up today locally and even though the focus is on large livestock the principles are applicable to any breeding program no matter how small or what species you are working with.
The books gose far beyond punnet squars and Mendel genetics covering topics such as environmental influences explaining complex terminology in a way the layman can easily understand it.
As well as giving guidance for long term breeding goals.
Highly worth picking up.

On your last post about your books, Cale is adorable!!! Is there any specific reason you chose a corgi?
Thank you! I was very happy with how she turned out. The team that I used through the company I went with did a great job making adorable illustrations out of my borderline incoherent notes.😅
Why a corgi?
Well, the short answer is, we had a corgi at the time that greatly inspired Cale. Except her name was Pudge/Tombo/Captain Stubby/ StubHub/Brat/Fat Corgi/whatever else dumb came out of our mouths because she would answer to anything when answering was actually on her mind. And most animals on our farm have identity crises before they finally leave this mortal coil because no one can agree on a solid name.😅
The longer answer: It started out as a project for senior English in high school. We had to write a short story with a moral/lesson and illustrate it. I can only sketch out animals, so all of the characters in my story had to be animals. And I know farm animals best. So alongside Cale the Corgi (because corgis are adorable and fairly easy to draw, behind a loaf of bread with legs and ears), you have Clarice Cow, Pearl Pig, and Hip-Hop Horse.
I did get an A on the project. And afterwards, was encouraged by family to show it to others and encouraged by those people to turn it into an actual children's book. Cale the Corgi Learns Common Sense was the first. Then came Cale the Corgi and the Cranky Bull, and the third one sitting on my computer is Cale the Corgi and the Cocky Rooster. Each story has/will have a life lesson for kids. And they all kind of rhyme.
I was illustrating them myself as I made each one, but luckily I found a company that offered me that service if I wanted it. And I took it, because I did not enjoy that part of the process.😩 I just had to give them notes for how I wanted things to look. Whoever they were, they did amazing jobs and I wish they could have been credited somewhere in the finished products.

guardians of ga’hoole audiobook is cool but tbh i’m not sure if i should listen to the wolves of the beyond ones in my online library,, they feel like they might be too monotone but it’s the only way i can read em since Sora (the book website) doesn’t have many xenofiction books
though why do all of the songs in the gahoole audiobooks sound so slow-
also the scary stories for young foxes audiobooks are AWESOME, pretty sure the author did them as well. though Scary Stories depicts an abusive relationship in the first book so uhhh trigger warning about that.
speaking of cool xenofiction, I LOVE VARJAK PAW. martial arts cats!!!

Alright so regarding the Masterlist, I've moved it to google docs.
You can find it here and everyone is welcomed to add and edit.
The editions and suggestions have to be approved by me, just for easier tracking and avoid mistakes in erasing stuff.
See, Tumblr sometimes gives me errors when updating, which is annoying when you've spent 2hrs writing and correcting a huge list so the google doc will be better in that regard.
I'll keep updating the masterlist here whenever I feel like is a reasonable amount of new stuff to add.

The saddest part of the big mayority of xenofiction being based on the UK is that it is just the example of the place with the greatest loss of biodiversity and ecological disaster. You can be sure that many of the animals that appear in these stories are either not from there or today are in danger of extinction.
Well, this actually goes for great part of europe
