Characters: Dean Winchester x Reader (together), Sam Winchester, John Winchester, Tessa-Reaper
Warnings: mention of death, coma, out of body experience, angst, fluff, language
A/N: I was tagged by @jackles010378 to write a short story about Season 2 Episode 1. The reader is Dean’s girlfriend and while Dean is “dead” he sees her not leaving his side and when he wakes he finally says the words she’s longed to hear him say.
This is my own work, please do not take it or copy it without my permission. It’s based on characters and an episode from Supernatural, but doesn’t follow the timeline completely. I wrote it fast and edited it fast. Please overlook any errors.
Minors DNI 18+
You had stayed back at the hotel while Dean, John, and Sam were on a hunt. You weren’t feeling well, the flu, you think. So you stayed while they left. You’d been hunting with John and Dean for a few years now, and Dean’s girlfriend for just as long.
John was against your relationship at first. He said Dean didn’t need the distraction and you didn’t need the heartbreak. However, you and Dean stood your ground and became a couple. You fought side by side, protecting each other and falling deeper in love.
As the hours ticked on, you started to get worried. Neither of them were answering their phones and they weren’t back yet. Where the hell are they?! They should have been back by now. Just then your phone rang startling you out of your thoughts.
“Hello?” “Hello, is this Miss Y/L/N?” “It is, who’s this?” “Miss. Y/L/N, this is April from Mercy Hospital. You are listed as an emergency contact for Dean Smith. He was involved in an accident and is in the hospital.” “Oh my god! Is he okay? What about his Dad and brother?!?” “They are fine, his brother is about to be discharged, if you’re able to, you really should come to the hospital.” “Please, tell me, is he alive?” “Ma’am, I think it’s best if you come up here.” “Just fucking tell me! Is he alive or not!!! It’s not that damn difficult!” You screamed into the phone. “He’s alive, but barely.” “I’m on my way.”
You grabbed your stuff as tears fell. On the way to the hospital you prayed to whoever or whatever would listen. “Don’t you fucking die on me, Dean Winchester! Don’t you do it. I can’t live without you.” You were sobbing and had to pull over briefly because you felt like you were going to get sick. Once you were sure you were done you headed towards the hospital again.
You parked and ran towards the entrance. “Dean Smith, what room is he in?” You yelled at the woman at the desk. She told you what room and you bolted down the hallway. When you got in the room you weren’t prepared for what you saw. There he was, laying so still. He was bruised and banged up, with a tube down his throat. You pulled a chair to his side and grabbed his hand.
“Dean, I’m here baby. You’re going to be okay. You can’t leave me, not now. Please baby, open your eyes.” You softly kissed his hand and laid your head down on his bed. Silent tears fell. Your phone rang and you saw it was Sam. “Hey Sam.” “Hey, Y/N, are you okay?” “No, Sam. I’m at the hospital in Dean’s room.” “I’m on my way to you.”
Sam walked in and hugged you. “I’m so sorry, Y/N. I was going to call you as soon as I could. They must have beat me to it.” “It’s okay, Sam. I’m glad you and your dad are okay.”
You turned your attention back to Dean. Slowly rubbing his hand. “I can’t lose him, Sam. I can’t, we can’t.” Sam placed his hand on your back, “I know.” Just then John appeared at the door and tipped his head to you. “How are you feeling John?” “Sore, but I’m okay. Thanks for coming.” “This is my place, right by his side. I know you don’t approve of our relationship, but I love him, John. My place is right here by his side.”
John sighed and sat on the opposite side. The only sound in the room was the beeping of the heart monitor. You placed your head down on the bed again, silently praying and begging for Dean to wake up, when you heard an alarm go off. You looked up and saw Dean’s heart rate was flat. The nurses and doctor ran in with a crash cart and told everyone to step back. You stood and took a step back, mouth on the ground. Everything was a blur and the sounds muffled. Your focus was on Dean, everyone else faded away.
The doctor grabbed the paddles and yelled “clear” as he shocked Dean’s chest. Dean’s body jumped and you gasped. Sam grabbed you and tried to pull you out of the room. You pushed him off, “No! We have to stay here with him. We aren’t leaving!”
Unbeknownst to you, Sam and John, but Dean was there. He was standing beside his bed looking at you and hearing every plea and seeing every tear. He walked over to you, brushed your cheek with his hand, “I’m here baby.” Dean looked up and saw a woman who looked right at him. He followed her out and finally caught up to her. “Who are you, and why can you see me?” “My name is Tessa, and I’m just like you. In the inbetween.” Dean followed her around the hospital and asked her how he could get back to you. She always answered in vague ways and it started to frustrate Dean. So he went back to his room.
The doctors and nurses were gone, his heart was beating again and there you were. Sitting next to him, holding his hand. “I love you Dean, we love you. Please don’t leave us.” You cried and held his hand tight. He wished he could feel you holding his hand and wipe your tears away.
Sam walked in the room and saw you still sitting next to Dean. “Hey, Y/N, why don’t you stretch, grab some food and just take a break. I promise I’ll call you if anything changes.” Dean stood to the side watching his baby brother trying to convince you to leave his side. He grinned, “Good luck, Sammy. She’s a stubborn one.” “Sam, I love you, but right now I need you to leave me alone. We’re NOT leaving his side. I love him and my place is right here.” “Y/N, we aren’t leaving him, but we need to be strong for him. That means eating something and taking care of yourself too.
Sam didn’t notice it, but Dean swears he saw you lightly brush your hand to your belly. Dean’s eyes went wide. “We love you, we’re not leaving him, we can’t lose him.” Oh my god, you’d been sick for a few weeks, Dean thought to himself. He bolted from the room. “Tessa! Where are you?! I need to know how to get back in my body! I can’t leave her, not now. I need to tell her how I feel about her.” Tessa appeared next to Dean. “Dean, I don’t know if it’s possible. It’s your time to go.” “What? How do you know that?” Dean’s face searched for answers in Tessa’s. “Dean, I’m not a ghost, I’m a reaper. I’ve come to take you away.” “The fuck you are! I’m not leaving her.” “Dean, it doesn’t work that way. When it’s your time, you have to go.”
Dean went back to you and placed his hand on your shoulder. He leaned down and kissed your cheek. “I know baby, I’m trying to get back to you.” John came back into the room to check on Dean. He saw you still sitting beside Dean. “Y/N, you have to eat something. You have to stay healthy and keep up your strength. If not for you, think about the baby, please.” “Why do you care? You didn’t even want Dean and I together. Why do you care about the baby?” “It’s still my grandchild and I see how much you love my son. Don’t worry. I’m going to fix this. Just promise me to love him even on the tough days.” “John, you know I will.” He placed a soft kiss on your head and walked out of the room.
Dean stood dumbfounded. His father knew you were pregnant and didn’t say anything. Dean tried for what seemed like hours to jump back into his body and nothing worked. He left the room and went to find John. He was confused to see John in the basement of the hospital. “Dad! Don’t do it!.” Dean saw his dad standing in front of the yellow eyed demon making a deal. Before Dean could see anything else, he was zapped back into his body.
When you realized he was awake you called for the nurse. They removed the tube and he sat up. You threw your arms around him. “Oh my god, Dean. We almost lost you. I love you so much. Please don’t do that again.” Dean wrapped his arms around you and held you. “Thank you sweetheart, thank you for never leaving my side. I love you.” You pulled back with tears in your eyes. Dean had never said those 3 words to you. “What? How did you know I didn’t leave your side, and Dean you love me?”
“I saw you sweetheart, I saw it all. I’ve been so stupid. I have loved you from the moment I met you. I knew you were it for me. I love you, all of you and anyone else that comes along.” Dean placed his hand on your belly. “Dean, how did you know? I was going to tell you after this hunt. I had taken a test when I started to get sicker and your dad walked in the bathroom as I found out. We both agreed to tell you after the hunt. He wanted your head to be clear, and I wanted to make sure you all were safe. I knew if I told you I was pregnant, you wouldn’t have gone on the hunt.” “Oh sweetheart, I love you so much.” He kissed your lips gently.
John walked in the room and saw Dean was awake. He leaned down to hug Dean and whispered something in his ear. Dean’s eyes went wide and he looked over at you. As John stood up he walked over to you, “Take care of him and that baby. For the record, I think you’re perfect for him. Take care of each other.” John hugged you and gave you a kiss on your forehead. Something felt off.
John left the room and went back to his. Sam came back in and went to check on John. When he walked in the room he found John dead. Sam screamed for help but it was too late.
When you and Dean were told, he realized John had made a deal with the demon to switch places. Dean remembered what Tessa told him, that it was his time to go. Then he woke up. You held Dean as he sobbed at the loss of his father. Your heart broke for him.
“I’m so sorry, Dean. He loved you and Sam so much.” Dean looked up at you, “He made a deal, Y/N. He took my place.” “What?! How do you know?” Dean told you about his experiences while he was in a coma, and what Tessa had told him. You cupped his face, “Oh Dean, he sacrificed himself for you, for our baby.”
You and John never really saw eye to eye, but you would forever be in his debt. He saved the love of your life so your child could grow up with their father. You started to cry when the magnitude of his sacrifice hit you.
“Sweetheart, I love you and our baby. I will always be thankful my dad put us and our baby before him. I can’t wait to live the rest of my life proving I’m a man worthy of that sacrifice.” “Dean, you’re already that man. You’re the love of my life, the father of my unborn child, an amazing brother and son. You protect with every fiber of your being, even people you don’t know. You, Dean Winchester, are the most worthy man on Earth.”
Dean took you in his arms, “I’ve been a fool. I should have told you what you meant to me before. I shouldn’t have let myself almost die to tell you what you mean to me. I love you, Y/N. Yesterday, today, forever. Seeing you by my side, refusing to leave showed me how much you mean to me. You’re my best friend, my confidant, my lover, the mother of my child, you’re my biggest cheerleader, and I love you!”
Dean placed his hand on your belly, “I love you too, little one. I will be there to protect you and teach you how to be strong and love and fight for the things and people you love.” You placed your hand on his and smiled. He placed a soft kiss on your lips, “I love you, Y/N, so much.”

[Not an idea, more on info from a past smp!]
X-life is one of the servers apart of scott's "Life series" (One life, X-life, afterlife, etc.), wherein each player starts with one heart and gains a heart everytime they die. If they die while having all 10 hearts, you'd be out of the series. X-life is a personal favorite of mine tbh.
A major point in the smp was the start of a religion over a donkey. Lore-wise "the one true jeremy" tasked Joel in starting the Church of Jeremy. Based on the infro from the X Life wiki, ""the one true jeremy" appreciates when other animals are named after him. He promises longer lives and rumor has it that there is another life after our 10th. The Jeremy life where we live on through the body of Donkey Jeremy." Hence the name "Jeremyism", based on the donkey's name. A lot of people called it a cult, the members deny it being one. One major "plot-line" is that Lizzie, a member of The Coven and a former enemy to Jeremyism, was the original founder (yeah I aint explaining that lmao).
Another thing about Jeremyism is "The Book of Jeremy", which pretty much were basic rules the members of Jeremyism had to follow (No I'm not going into details there). One of the rules back then went along the lines of "Scott was not allowed." (Which probably was the oldest occurance of scott constantly being against joel)
The major twist is that later in the series, joel creates a Death House, with the prize for clearing it is becoming the new leader of Jeremyism (spoilers: Scott cleared it at half a heart)
With Scott now being the leader of Jeremyism, he planned a "smooth takeover" and changed a few rules of the Book of Jeremy. Later on he finds out about secret lairs of the Jeremyism members and a goal to take down Scott in which he made the decision to take down Jeremyism, even if he goes down with it.
Jack, one of the members of the smp who named himself Jeremy, had lost his last life and wrote down a will (which both callum and scott had to follow because it said so) and wrote down how he should have a funeral held for him. Scott took this as an opportunity to destroy the church and everyone in it. With some slight modifications, a rigged TNT trap, some lava and some wither potions, he was able to kill everyone attending the funeral. Including himself. (Recommend watching it, it looked pretty cool) and casually said that Jeremyism is over and just went over the rest of Jack's will.
[TLDR: Joel gets contacted by a donkey, starts a cult relegion named jeremyism, writes a book about the rules, makes a rule about scott not being allowed near jeremyism, scott didnt like that, coven was formed and was "declared" as an enemy to jeremyism, the coven made peace with them, apparently lizzie is the original founder idk how, joel built a death house and promised whoever wins becomes the leader of jeremyism, scott wins and makes slight changes to jeremyism, the members didn't like that and planned to overthrow him, Jack (one of the memebers) died, Scott and Callum were asked to fufill his will and a funeral was held for him. Before that tho, scott rigged the church with lava, tnt, and potions and basically killed everyone inside the church, with some dying twice. Scott declares that jeremyism is no more and the server moves on until the inevitable end of X Life.]
-✨️ anon (haha guess who i mainly watch)
Just- *pushes this across the table for newer folks*
I will say though that half of the coven literally could not care less about Jermemyism, you have no idea how funny it was to be a Gem viewer watching this all unfold. The episodes were like, "guys guys cmon look at my pretty plants!!!" *watches silently as Joey and Joel argue about shadows* "hiii Blue 💞" "GEM COME WITH US JEREMYISM HAS SENT SPIES" Katherine: I was just trying to read ;-;
Comedy gold, honestly

quark watches star trek season 1 episode 23
planet sends out a "dont fucking come here" code
obviously evil ambassador says go there anyway
kinda dont think this dude should have command over kirk
i was about to ask why star trek brings up the threat of interstellar war so much and then i remembered The Events of the 1960s
"im taking some security people with me" theyre going to die
this planet looks like this meme
/checks off the "background music indicates sexiness" square on my star trek tos bingo card/
The Unspecified Danger
this dude has an evil goatee
theyve been at war for 500 years?
theyre pretty casual about being attacked
are these people just making up the war. whats going on
i. what the fuck ok let me explain this
they dont actually launch any bombs or do any real attacks. they pretend they do with computers and basically roleplay this war, and when people are simulated to die they just kill them irl.
this is absolutely about the cold war
the enterprise has been "classified destroyed" so they all have to go into a disintegration machine. because war roleplay.
that is so stupid and im extremely impressed with this plot
the computer lady voice just sounds like shes yelling from across the room
scotty big brain
since when did vulcans have weird psychic powers
not even 20 minutes in and ive already got bingo
escape from weird roleplay land
spock says "there is a multi-legged creature crawling on your shoulder" shortly before knocking a guy out
wasnt there an ambassador guy before. whered he go
oh there he is
scotty says fuck diplomacy lets fight. dont say that scotty the cold war era writers will hear you
yes scotty go insubordinate king
evil goatees never lie
hey kirk. why are you, as a man, pinning another man to the wall
hey evil guy. why are you, as a man, offering a drink to the man pinning you to the wall
yes kirk beat their asses
yes kirk get damseled
spock says "among us"
spock tells a woman to knock down and sit on another woman if necessary
spock refers to extreme violence as a peculiar kind of diplomacy
"let us go or we explode your planet :3"
whoever wrote this one had some unique opinions on the cold war
some real moral ambiguity in this episode
star trek says FUCK computers
i dont even care what the intended message of this episode is. i love it. its messy. it commits. its ballsy.
"why, mr spock, you almost make me believe in miracles" WHAT???????????

Well that was the first full episode of Emmerdale I've watched in months. Now I know why I mostly just watch it in clips on youtube these days. Haha. Did give me plenty of time to finally catch up on my art instagram feed though. So...thanks for that.
That car crash man....wow. What even was that?! Haha. That slow motion roll with all of the close ups of them floating around in the car? The music? It was way too much for me. I just kind of burst out laughing. So silly. And the dramatic music at the end that was...I don't know...supposed to like tug on the heartstrings or something??? But like...I actively want Chloe to die so like...music's not working on me.
Also through that whole scene of Mack keeping them calm while Charity and then Chloe woke up, I just kept thinking about Robron in their sunken car and how that was a significantly better scene that I actually cared about.
I felt even worse when I was watching the Lydia scenes because I just can't really help but compare it to all of the other past rape reveals we've had this show. And like...it was fine but I've heard like all of this dialogue before because they've done this story so many times now.
It also feels super jarring to keep cutting from those scenes back and forth to the Chloe/Mack/Charity stuff. The tone is just so not the same.
Also, I didn't watch any of their scenes yesterday but the whole "let's show Chloe's thoughts" thing was....a choice. Not really a good one. Haha.
The Sharma stuff also feels out of place in this week. Like why are they trying to shove all of these disparate stories together into this one week. Why not actually focus on only a couple that actually match in tone.
The Sharma stuff would play a lot better if Rishi was still alive and if they didn't arbitrarily drop the story for two months. Or if Amit didn't show up just because he had a random job in Leeds. Although who knows if that's true but still...it all just feels poorly conceived. Shocking I know.
And the Aaron stuff...sigh...haha. It was annoying hearing him obsess over Liv. How is their relationship still so irritating even after she's dead? And I mean Chas is a massive hypocrite who can still barely acknowledge that she did force Aaron to leave so she could carry on with Al. But it's not like Aaron has the moral high ground here that much when they're sitting at Wylie's where his affair with Robert killed Katie. Haha. Yes we can blame the floorboards and the caravans of the world but...they were affair casualties.
I do sort of enjoy him talking back to everyone. But I'm ready for him to be out of Wylie's and ready for us to be out of clunky exposition land where we have to rehash the last time he was there.
Good for whoever wrote this episode though, actually remembering that Marco existed. Haha. I really thought they were going to forget altogether. So long Marco. You're better off.
I did laugh when Aaron called staying the village a death wish though. Cause I mean...is he wrong? Especially this month. Haha.
Sigh. I should go watch the bypass crash just to cleanse or something.

I just re-watched season 4 of Stranger Things and here's the takeaway for me - whoever I was when I watched it last year is essentially the same girl you see before you lmaoooo.
(Season 1 thoughts here. Season 2 here. And 3 here.)
I realised that my season 3 rewatch was not entirely on topic. It was more a general recap rather than noting the differences in my opinions, so getting back on track...
The Wipeout/milkshake scene at the roller rink would have hit harder if I'd re-watched season 1-3 just before going into 4. It was sad the first time around, but now it's tragic. I've just watched El be strong and brave and go through all that bullshit, just to come undone at the hands of high school bullies. It's infuriating and so fucking miserable.
It's cool re-watching and being able to see Jamie's eyes in the Vecna suit.
I wrote last time about season 3 versus 4 Robin so I won't go over it again. However, I think I didn't recognise a lot of the 'smart Robin' moments this season. She does a lot. She's not season 3 Robin, but she's still better than I remember.
The first time I watched this season I don't think I realised how nice it was for Jonathan to have a friend. It's nice.
The Russian plot still boring: confirmed.
Max choosing life and running for it while Kate Bush plays still gives me goosebumps: confirmed.
Haven't mentioned him in any re-watches yet, I don't think, but Ted Wheeler is stale white bread. During the re-watch, I found I notice him more but in a bad way. Dude's a dick.
How did I not question Hopper's lack of a limp??? Like his ankle was FUCKED and the next day he's chilling and walking around as per usual lmao?
I don't remember if I thought so the first time I watched it, but the CGI where 001 is banished to the Upside Down is getting lightning bolted etc., looks so weird. Like that isn't Jamie's face at all?
The Brenner/Owens dynamic does not get less jarring the more times you see it. Brenner is living in an apocalyptic soap opera, while Owens is more grounded and focused on El's autonomy. It's a weird pairing.
When you watch episode 8 it still totally feels like it's setting Steve up to die. It's actually annoying watching it and knowing how it ends, because it feels like you're being lied to/tricked?
"And I never should have knocked" gets more cringe each time I watch it. Caleb kills that scene, but imagine if they gave him good dialogue.
Fuck this ending so bad. Literally every time I watch it, there is more that stands out as being so badly written, or shit that doesn't make sense. Fuck this entire goddamn episode.
This has been a Stranger Things Rhi-Watch.

I'm rewatching SRMTHFG and it's funny how little I remember of it, despite having been my hyperfixation. Almost as if I'm watching it for the first time. 🤭 Absurd little show, I love it.
Especially the first three episodes, they feel so weirdly written, so... robotic? (lol) Tropy? I don't know. Off.
May 22th? edit: Wonder Fun Meet World remains the most absurd, ridiculous episode. 😂 I love it. Edit: WAIT THEY EAT THINGIES? NOOOOOO!!!
Skeleton King cackles really half the time he's on screen, lol. It's goofy. 😂
May 26h edit: I don't remember if I felt like this back in the day, but now that I'm rewatching the show, Otto really is my favourite monkey, as much as Gibson. He's cringe. I'm cringe. Love him.
I'm watching seasons 3 and 4 in english only. It's a good thing I don't remember the show because in the Latin American dub the voice cast was changed, and those two seasons felt odd to me, I didn't like them as much as the other two, and I think I was baised just because of the voices. We'll see. So far it feels just like the rest of the show.
Whoever was the supervisor that approved of Valeena's stupid dress-ends-at-the-pointyness-of-boobs design deserves a bonk to the head.
It's weird to me how Gibson is written in Season of the Skull, given that the entire show they've been dealing with "mystical in nature" stuff -as he himself have said- the entire show. Distinction without a difference. Bro, the power primate is right there. The monkeys themselves don't seem to understand it, nor the evil forces they fight, that does't mean it's not real, and suddenly he doesn't believe in "magic"? Even right after seeing it work, he doubles down? Bruh. It seems flanderizing to me. He's the scientist therefore "logic" jabbering. Who wrote this episode? *googles* Brandon Auman wrote A Man Called Krinkle and Versus Chiro (two of my favourite episodes) and WONDER FUN MEAT WORLD? I'm so sorry to have doubted you, sir. Perfect episode.
[A Ghost in the Machinder] "Machines can only appear to be alive" Bro, you said that to Antauri's goddamn face. "Machines cannot have a soul" WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU GUYS. WEREN'T YOU MOURNING HIM YESTERDAY?
[Incident on Ranger 7] Didn't the colon die on the sun? I forgot Krinkle fucking dies. Wow.
[Ghosts of Shuggazoom] Did the Hyperforce... kill people? They killed wraiths, didn't they?? Awww, Jinmay is neat.
May 29th edit: Hmmmmm, I have problems with Demon of the Deep. How didn't the Hyperforce immediately disregard Protesus as a crazy old weirdo with a conspiracy theory. Or at the very least, question more firmly who he was or how does he know what he claims to know. Instead they just went "We'll trust you bro". He's clearly not the typical Shuggazoom citizen, he's one lonely guy with incredibly advanced technology that nobody else has, where the heck did you come from? The guys an expert, he has to have been around for years, how did the HF not notice him before? Someone in the city must've known of him. He's just so suspicios to me, lol. Second of all, everything that Gibson geeks over screams engineery to me, something OTTO should be also geeking over, he's the engineer, he's the one with endless appreciation for technology and machinery and wonder in his eyes. Third of all, Antauri senses the disturbance within the Power Primate and then he goes… "we have no choice but to trust him". WHY? TRUST YOURSELF MORE. CLOSE YOUR EYES AND LOOK WITHIN YOURSELF OR WHATEVER THAT MYSTICAL THING YOU DO IS. WHO TOLD YOU THERE'S NO TIME FOR THAT? Isn't a disturbance in the Power Primate enough of a red flag that you'd rather investigate it cautiously before anything else? Why trust the guy who literally never told you how he even knows Whatchamacallit will awaken? The thing you thought was a myth but this normal Shuggazoom citizen guy knows more of somehow. And the plot twist is… he's not a Shuggazoom citizen. And I don't know what to make of it, lol, I didn't remember that about him as I wrote all of this (I did remember he turns on them, just not why). Fourth of all, poor fish people, the Hyperforce attacked them literally just for being ugly. Rude. *googles* Mark Henry wrote… not one episode I care much about. 😅 Consistency.
[Evil Ages] Why is Chiro visiting the museum in his hyper mode?
[Secret Society] Why is Chiro visiting the Arcade in his hyper mode? This is why I didn't like the entire season. /j Who… storyboarded this episode? Or supervised the animation??? It feels so weird. I dislike it in ways I can't explain. Oh! It's that scene!
[Night of Fear] Why is Chiro-- oh ok, he's normal. I love that Gibson turned into a hazard, LOL. But... Isn't it ableist to have him with exotropia to illustrate that he's stupid? "Your phase!" *gasp* PUN!! *pointing guys meme* PUUUNN!!!
June 1st edit: Wait, I just noticed that, after Ghosts of Shuggazoom, Jinmay isn't around except for one episode. Boo. Where was she?
[Golden Age] They let the old man leave to the laboratory... which is now surrounded by a deadly swamp infested with deadly creatures, which they didn't mention. How come they didn't bombard him with a bazillion questions about how things were back in the day before he left? You said you were low on vitamin C, have a slumberparty and rest.
[Object of Hate] Wasn't Morlath's whole magic/escence taken by Skeleton King back in Snowbound? Huh?? *sees Sprx saving Gibson from Morlath using his magnets* You know what would've been neat? *imagines Sprx saving Nova from falling into the wormhole using his magnets* But then there wouldn't be a story, haha. Now, I don't really like it that they go for funny poses/visual gags in scenes that are supposed to be tense, in an episode with a serious plot. They didn't do this in Skeleton King (episode). They didn't do this in I, Chiro. They did it a bit in Belly of the Beast. And here again but more. Why are they doing this? SPRX HAS JUST SIDED WITH VALEENA AND OTTO IS DOING HIS O3O FACE. I LOVE CRINGE AND GOOFY AND ABSURD BUT THIS IS NOT THE MOMENT. Am I crazy??
[Soul of Evil] *Chiro kisses Jinmay* Awww.
I've rediscovered that Gibson is still my blorbo. 🤭 So fond of him.
Also, yes, I was partially bias because of the voice change, although there are things I didn't like then that I still don't like know.
El primer doblaje era tan bueno. 😭 I wasn't wrong to not like the second voice cast, now that I've seen the show. I don't think they made a good job, honestly. They all sound closer to how they sound in english, but they lacked the personality. The first voice cast sounded different, almost everybody has a higher pitched voice compared to the original, but they delivered good acting. And I rather have that.
Favourite episodes:
The Sun Riders Thingy A Man Called Krinkle Ape New World Versus Chiro Wonder Fun Meat World Incident on Ranger 7 Night of Fear
And the little plush plus card stock Super Robot I made back then. 🤭 I didn't make Gibson instead only because I didn't have blue furry fabric. The robot, I only recently painted it.
Although I wonder if I'm still being baised? hypocritical? too harsh? (I really don't know what's the word I'm looking for) about the episodes I didn't like. Like, maybe I'm missing something, maybe something's going over my head. I don't know.
Jun 5th edit: I think Nova and Sprx should stay platonic, and leave/clarify that "I love you" as "as friends". It's not like the monkeys don't love each other, they do! But she's never been romanticly interested before. "Does a monkey have to get killed [or almost turn evil and be gone forever] for some attention?" Yes. The answer is yes. And it shouldn't be. I'd wish if they continue the show they quit the "romance" (lack there of) between them. I don't like the -I dare say it- stupid ass trope of: girl very openly and sincerely isn't interested, but there was something there all along somehow. Nova is annoyed by him and uncomfortable with his advances the entire time, you guys enjoy that?? It's a trope that should die.
Especially when Chiro and Jinmay are right there. They both reciprocate, they're already sweet and while there's the fact Jinmay won't age, they can go let's be happy together anyway, while it lasts. That's so sweet!
Jun 8th: I'm a buffoon just learning that Gibson was voiced by Tom Kenny. HAHAHA I'm also just learning about the pilot. Thingy my beloved. I wonder if I should accept the episodes I dislike and just like them for what they are: episodes of a absurd silly show. Maybe I need to hear the perspective of someone who likes them.
Jun 14th: Okaaaay. I dared to watch an episode of season 4 (one I like, Night of Fear) in spanish for the first time in decades and… It's not terrible. I still prefer Sprx's higher pitched more playful voice and Antauri's soft one from the first dub. But I think I can accept them. I can accept Chiro's and Nova's the most, despite how Chiro's first voice actually sounded like a kid and more energetic. Otto strikes me the same no matter what voice he has (he actually had two in the previous dub, this is the thrid one really). But Gibson's voice just doesn't sound nerdy, it doesn't have that charm in the delivery, like at all, that's the saddes change for me lol. HAHAHA THEY DIDN'T DARE TO TRANSLATE "I LIKE DOING IT" AS WHAT IT IS. He said "me gusta pelear" (I like fighting) instead. They didn't have him say "the ladies' department" either, 😭 this is why this dub was never good. /hyp Hmmm never mind accepting Chiro's voice, the actor didn't make an effort to sound high pitched when Chiro gets turned into a little kid. I was right all those years ago. The delivery lacked personality. 😢 I tried watching another episode. But it does influence me liking the show. I can only enjoy it in english.
Jun 17th: I keep thinking what an artistic masterpiece as a robot Jinmay is for her to pass as a human. Her arms and face must be covered in soft material that imitates skin, she has soft reallistic hair, she wears actual clothes. And well all of this seems like it should be obvious, but in her mecha form her hair and dress are metallic parts and after that reveal I got used to think of her as robot, I kept thinking of her hair and dress as metallic parts even when I saw her in her normal form. But what about when Chiro thought she was a normal human girl? And how does her transformation even works? I'm fascinated thinking about that.

In general, I don't consider much of anything with Nightmare on Elm Street worth a glance. I get the historical importance of the series in horror, but otherwise, I've never been into it.
But, out of pure curiosity, I took a peep-see at "Memory Overload" because I came across an LGBT (Gay) TikTok account that was gushing about this episode specifically bc of a 20-something Kyle Chandler.
Because Freddie's Nightmares operates similarly to Tales from the Crypt, "Memory Overload" is a twofer. The first part is about a drunk English lit professor named Professor Charles Whendam, who takes in a young man named Chuck who deserts from the military. (The second part is about a woman committing credit card fraud, and a sentient computer's quest to catch her in the act.)
Chuck comes from a long line of military stans who've been in the US army since, like, (checks notes) "The Battle of Valley Forge". The jingoism, in other words, runs deep in the family. Chuck, however, likes writing poetry and isn't about joining the army. It's his passion, something his professor believes he should seriously pursue.
Chuck's father, on the other hand, thinks poetry is strictly for women. It's not masculine, see? Compounding the issue is the fact that Chuck's father is an apparent drunk, who likes to beat him, and calls him whiny if he tries to run, or begs his father not to (1) hit him, (2) drink.
So you can see why he goes running to the professor. But noting the professor says can reassure the kid that his father and the Military Police won't find him. He's so high-strung, that he starts accusing the professor of trying to sabotage him to build himself up. Not sure how that works, but... okay.
This being produced in the 80s (1984, I think?), thematically I figured this episode was going to be a hard-line PSA about how you're life will be ruined if you ding-dong ditch the military. Or, how you should try really, really hard not to be Gay and also not ditch the military because of your same-sex attraction. I remember listening to a podcast recap of this episode, and they mentioned there might've been some preoccupation with closeted professors and closeted students in '80s media (for good or ill, who knows? I'm betting it was for ill though).
So, because of the TikTok video, I already had some ideas about the episode itself going into it. Really, the person was just talking about how "gorgeous" they thought Chandler was in this episode (and still is). I think that was the beginning and end of their video. Which, you know, is fair.
Nightmare on Elm Street dedicated an entire movie to Kruger tormenting a young gay high school student, so this wouldn't necessarily be outside of the franchise wheelhouse. On top of being a pedophile, Kruger was also homophobic. Being pro-military probably isn't out of the realm reason either. It doesn't take a genius to assume that these would be his favorite people to target.
But in terms of the story, why? Where was this kid, an apparent resident of Springwood, when he stoked the serial killer's ire? Was it the mere fact that he embarrassed his father by ditching? And how is the professor connected to his father? Did they become mortal enemies because of a nature vs. nurture debate over Chuck? Were they friends before?
Who knows! I do know I was doing more work than whoever wrote and produced Freddy's Nightmares. The episode feels like a half-cooked concept that had ideas about certain ideas but failed to execute or comment on any of them.
The professor goes from being a fall-down drunk to a clean and put-together dude while Chuck apparently takes to drinking, and becomes extremely forgetful about things. His teeth turn green, and he becomes aggressive and accusatory. The professor can't get him to believe that he means to take him out of the country to Switzerland and away from his abusive father until the moving day comes. I half expected this kid to die by way of nightmare-induced suicide, or murder the professor out of misguided vengeance.
But, in the end, the episode basically reveals Chuck and Charles are the same person. He took to drinking after deserting the military, because he wanted to pursue a writing career, and his father committed suicide.
And it occurred to me that this was probably the direction they were going to go in when I watched the TV Spot someone recorded, and Kyle Chandler was mirroring the mannerisms of his co-star, Andrew Pine. And, to be honest, I'm not against the direction. But the show's idea of throwing the audience for a loop was to simply not clarify anything in the story.
External to the story, the performances were middling, over-the-top to just outright bad. Chandler was still a newbie at this point, so everything about his performance was the epitome of "He's a little confused, but he's got spirit". The way this man screams had me in stitches because he still screams like that as a veteran actor. Then he does this frantic "I'm gonna get in trouble" / "please don't hurt me" hop when his character is confronted by his father and the military police. It fits for a character who is clearly terrified of his father, and regresses, but couldn't take any of it seriously.

im going to have a bruise on my leg now from slapping my leg in incredulous rage.
Whoever wrote this episode should die.
Where's my post about how you treat non-humanoid people in fiction is absolutely an indicator of how you feel about real people.

Banana Fish (ep. 2, 9, 11, 24)
HUH?! I thought this was a BL anime but apparently it isn't? Everyone on every social media platform said this was BL but it seems that it just has implications of these boys liking each other romantically, but not actually. I feel like a lot of animes do this - a guy admires another guy, seemingly romantically but not. I think this is due to the more conservative side of Japan, but I do not want to generalize. I guess a lot of people kind of forced this idea about these characters, or it just seems like the way they talk about each other seems like a love story.
One thing I do not like about this anime is the amount of perversion. It is good that the perverts were portrayed in a disgusting light, and I think that it raises awareness towards how people pervert and eroticize homosexuality and how wrong it is. However, there was also a lot of sexualization of the characters by the artists/animators when it was not necessary. For example, they way they were dressed, the skin exposed at times, their positions, etc. I think that while the anime was trying to convey how immoral perversion is, the characters were still sexualized. This is another thing that I often see in anime: the creators trying to take a stance against something but then indirectly doing what they were against. Actually, I should not just direct this to anime because a lot of different kinds of media does this. I wrote about this in my essay for Zom 100, because the animators, I believe, took a stance against sexualization of women; however, the camera angles and clothing choices made by the animators/artists/creators say otherwise. I think that there needs to be more care and consideration put into delivering messages and the way that they are done so.
Also, I am pretty confused as to what Ash's and Eiji's relationship was though. Like how did they meet and why did they hit it off? I think that the first episode probably established that but I do not want to have to look it up. Anyway, it was interesting how Ash saved Eiji and not his best friend - like how valuable is Eiji to Ash? I also do not really understand the relationship between Ash and that old man that owned him but then saved him in the end? Perhaps I got the characters confused? If someone reblogs this, please explain!
Anyway, I knew that Banana Fish was sad, because people often talk about how they cry because of this anime, but wow, that was quite a depressing ending. I had already cried from watching Grey's and One Tree Hill today, so this was just the cherry on top. The intro to the last episode almost foreshadowed what was going to happen. It seemed like a lot of memories that Ash had flashes across the screen, specifically his relationships, just like how your memories replay in your mind when you die, so I could tell just from the intro that Ash would pass away. In episode 9 or 11 (I cannot remember which), someone also called Eiji Ash's achilles heel, conveying how Ash (or someone) would die. I cannot believe Eiji does not even know about his death, expecting to see him again. As sad as it is that Eiji and Ash could not be together, I am glad that Ash died in that library (I mean, it is traumatizing for whoever finds his dead body), because that was where he was away from all the violence and the killing (the aspect of himself that he disliked). He got to be the person he wanted to be when he died - peaceful and loved.
In the end, I like the message about how people can be so different, yet when you really think about it, we are all the same. No matter what race, gender, career, etc., although we may have different experiences of cultures, we are all human beings that want to be loved, to love, and to be happy.

s2ep1 the collector
there was so much wrong with this one. so much like jenny nicholson, i'm making a list to keep on track
hawkmoth being hawkmoth
master fu making a mistake and losing everything
hawkmoth akumatizing himself
ladybug's comment about gabriel agreste having a son
i guess they're kinda all interwoven, but those are the main points i want to hit. i'll start with the last one bc it's the easiest.
why did ladybug say that he had a son, as if she hadn't been to the agreste household before and called adrien by his name. the writers really were like, "continuity? who's she? don't know her."
i think the whole idea of hawkmoth is a lot like how the writer/director approached the book of henry (the movie). as analyzed by dan olsen (folding ideas on youtube), he mentions that the writer wrote the script with the knowledge that henry was going to die and his mom was going to (almost) go through with his plans if he did. which is a bad starting point, bc up until henry is hospitalized, we're supposed to believe this 12 year old is going to go into a gun shop and buy a sniper rifle.
and it's the same idea with hawkmoth. it feels very much like the creator of ml needed a villain, and designed hawkmoth without actually understanding what the butterfly miraculous does when it's not in the wrong hands. like he designed the villain before deciding that the butterfly was also going to be a miraculous. or like he was still deciding what miraculous to include.
and the reason i say this is 1) it sure seems like hawkmoth just being a thing was something master fu was prepared for, even tho he didn't have any basis in it. like maybe you could argue he should assume it would end up in the wrong hands, but how would he know what that would look like? and that's also just a baseless assumption. 2) the whole explanation of how master fu lost the peakcock and butterfly miraculous.
he says he made a mistake when he was younger (and i believe he's supposed to be like 100 or smth right?? or am i mixing that up? it's probably been a good 40 or so years since his screw up at least), and i'm hard-pressed to believe he and gabriel are the same age. but he says that that mistake is what led him to lose the tome and the two miraculous. but then makes a wild leap of logic into thinking that whoever possessed the tome must also possess the missing miraculous and be hawkmoth? like please walk me through that logic, it doesn't make sense!
the writers didn't even add an in extra--it was probably sold or changed hands a lot, but whoever possess it now may well be hawkmoth. tho i suppose that leaves a plot hole by itself bc how can you guarantee that all three items stay together if it's changed hands a few times. but i feel like that's easier to swallow than that giant leap from "i lost these things" to "so anyone who has them is hawkmoth."
not to mention, again, if all three items did change hands a lot before gabriel found them, how did he find them together. i mean maybe the seller sold them as set, but if he hadn't, how would master fu have known that anyone would know that they're holding a miraculous. unless the kwamis come out of them unwillingly?
i'm tying myself into knots and getting all jumbled up here on what if's, so i'm going to move on. i still do think master fu expecting the butterfly ending up in the wrong hands and knowing what that looks like is weird from a writing standpoint. it just, again, makes it feel like hawkmoth was a villain first and a miraculous second. or at the very least, was always a villain and never a good guy.
i think the writers use master fu being young and still in training as an excuse for way too many things (i did watch s2 but i only remember very few things, unlike s1, bc in s1 i actually enjoyed the show. by the time s2 came out, the fans were getting antsy and salty). and they do it in this episode bc when marinette says gabriel got akumatized and so that exonerates him/crosses him off the suspect list and master fu just accepts that is crazy to me.
bc you'd think master fu knowing as much as he does about the miraculous, he'd also know that the butterfly miraculous holder can posses themself with their own butterflies. surely, the powers of the miraculous are the first think you'd learn as a guardian!
and while i think it's a fine convention to use, i'm only criticizing it here bc the writers are bad and lazy, as evidenced by the first season.
i do like the implication is that emilie is a bad lady who stole the miraculous and broke the peacock one tho. i support women's wrongs.
i also really love that gabriel's english va slightly lowers his voice when he's hawkmoth.
and it's hilarious to me that the artists literally changed gabriel's entire face shape when he's hawkmoth lol.
also racism and chinese mysticism. unfortunately, i believe we're going to get a lot of that this season. and i'm going to never stop sounding like a broken record.

Making sense of the "Abortion is bad"-Scene in Kamierabi because it doesn't leave my brain and I really don't want Yoko Taro to be an Anti-Abortionist
Why am I still trying to give the ugly show nobody but me watched the benefit of the doubt?
I don't know either. It has to be wishful thinking.
Okay, I know exactly why, it's the scene after all of the Lall BS where Ryo fcking 'kills' Ono and tells him that that's her wish and he doesn't get to grant it, that shit slapped and it singlehandedly keeps my hope alive that that whole previous scene was supposed to be bad so it can be 'debunked' in the next season.
Because if they actually thought Lall's monologue was it and they were spilling some hard truths about abortion being murder, women just shouldn't cheat and how society has gotten selfish bc evil evil smartphones then not only is whoever wrote that shit either downright evil or missing the forest for the trees - they're also a horrible writer.
Like Lall's whole thing is her tearfully boasting about how nobody there listened to other's wishes, how everybody else is just selfishly trying to become god for their own goals and that's why Ono Goro is so good and smart and different and deserves to become god.
But like - that's wrong. And it's wrong to an almost comical degree. Almost none of them are in this for themselves.
From what we've seen almost everybody wants to make the world a better place by becoming God - and sure we don't necesarily really know what they wished for, but from their actions and characters none of them really fight for themselves.
Sawa wants parents like hers to die because they literally killed her brother - she fights for her brother and not for herself. Akitsu literally let himself die so Goro could win and fix the world. The only thing we really know about Ama is that he is too good for this world. Chika fights for Ryo who fights for Kyo. Iyo is literally another guy who let his favorite Idol overwrite his entire existence.
Like typing this out I'm almost feeling stupid for even entertaining the thought that they could actually mean what Lall is saying - especially since Yoko Taros recent themes (that are also in kamierabi) just fly in the face of any conclusion like this - but to me the episode framed it just sympathetically enough that I'm just not all that sure.
this is literally that one crossroads meme but it's between "Kamierabi is criticizing the white savior complex" and "Kamierabi is an alpha podcast that thinks Abortion is murder, women should just stop being sluts and single mothers are ruining society by raising bad men" and it's going to take months until they finally reveal which one it is
(and i think part of my problem is that turning this into 'ono goro is just a white guy(tm) (yeah i know he's asian but you know what i mean, in his social sphere he's a white guy) who thinks only he can solve all of society's problems because he listened to a woman once' would make this a killer story. like that would make so much sense. they could bring the whole thing with him being the one good iyo stan back so we finally have an anime talking about how all oshi-ism is bad q_q but like. what if it isn't. what if these people just fully drank the alpha podcast cool-aid???)

11. Do you believe in the old advice to “kill your darlings?” Are you a ruthless darling assassin? What happens to the darlings you murder? Do you have a darling graveyard? Do you grieve?
First of all the way this question is written it sounds like whoever wrote the ask game forgot that "kill your darlings" doesn't apply to just characters.
Regardless- Yes. I mean that's just what you should do.
Like unless you write the most self indulgent story under the sun that is not meant to be actually good - you just do that. Nothing wrong with those but like, personally not interested in writing these - those just stay in my head.
And like. Seriously fascinated in the concept of "darling graveyard" and grieving darlings?
I grieve stories I abandoned or never managed to finish but not just, plot points and story lines that I realize are pointless or otherwise bad. And, again, if those were just self-indulgent things, then they don't really die? They just stay in my head. Like currently in File De La Passione there are multiple moments of romance between two main characters and their respective love interests. I honestly wanna scrap nearly all of that and keep them as friends only despite the fact that I very much still "ship" them. The story works just as well without it and while romance could add more emotional value it would just take way too long to set it up and there's no time in story for that cause it is episodic in nature and has chapter and word limit.
But like in DMs or everywhere where I talk of characters? I very much still see them as romantic and write short snippets of them being lovers.
