While I do agree with Matt Mercer’s sentiment that this specific moment is pretty big for Leon, with this admission that he needs a break, I don’t think that necessarily means that Leon’s this 100% recovered individual talking about taking a healthy, normal vacation. I think that this was his very roundabout way of saying 'This is bullshit. I'm definitely going to get shitfaced when this is done.'
He could be talking about just needing a break from everything and taking a genuine vacation, but drinking is very much a knee-jerk coping mechanism for Leon, so I wouldn't put it past him to resort to it once this mission's through given the high intensity and stress of it. It's great to see how much better he's doing in Death Island given that he's made some semblance of peace with the way his life has turned out, but old habits die hard, and it’s only human to backpedal every now and then.
I like to think of Death Island as a movie that displays him taking steps in the right direction. He's not where he needs to be, not yet — at this point, he's still a character actively in transformation — but we're seeing the result of him beginning to walk down a better path than the one he was headed down in Vendetta.
I hesitate to say happiness, but Leon’s contentment in Death Island is extremely evident. There’s such a stark contrast between his demeanor in Damnation and Vendetta and his demeanor in Death Island. He’s still dealing with the same internal struggles, which is most apparent during the callout scene in two places.
After Dylan calls him out specifically and he only sarcastically answers with “yeah, well, it’s a livin’.”
Tumblr media
And, I think more prominently, when Dylan says that so long as there are people like him/Chris/Claire/Jill who fight for those in power and uphold the status quo that “the innocent will continue to suffer as long as you do.”
Tumblr media
You can literally see the fear in his eyes when he hears this, because every single thing Dylan is saying to them, what he’s saying about him, are things he already fully believes. The exact reasons that led him to hit the bottle so hard are being reiterated to him by someone who isn’t even involved in his life, and that hurts.
However, instead of having another existential crisis and ruminating on what Dylan said, he chooses to hold onto hope. He believes in Jill, which means he believes in what they’re doing — that they can make a difference by doing the best they can given their circumstances. As long as he hangs onto that, I'd like to think we can have hope for him. He just needs more time.

on the topic of swearing, it would be so funny if yor has the vocabulary of a sailor and makes the conscious decision not to use it
like loid is sitting with his head in his hands after anya has somehow magically procured a bad word in her vocabulary and is like "i have no idea what to do. how is this happening. what if this is the start of a downwards spiral and she becomes a swear-slinging second grader and they expel her from eden" and yor giggles like "im sure once she learns the words the novelty will wear off, that's what it was like for me" and he's like "?? what it was like for you?" fully imagining that the worst word yor knows is like, crap or damn or something because she's so gentle and softspoken
and yor goes on like "yeah! like for example when i was a kid and learned *BEEEEEEP* or *BEEP BEEP* or *BEEEEEEEEEP BEEEP BEEP* i stopped using them after a while!" and she goes on and gives some more of the most filthy, gritty examples in existence
and loid is sitting there - mind you this man was in the Army so he is no stranger to swearing, but he is sitting there gobsmacked and face REDDENED from the absolute verbal weaponry yor is expelling with a smile on her face

ARCANE LEAGUE OF LEGENDS: ↳ "So was I. I was angry, just like you. I led us across this bridge, thinking things could change. If I hadn't… your parents would still be alive. I know you wanna hurt the topsiders for what they've done to us. But who are you willing to lose? Mylo? Claggor? Powder? Nobody wins in war, Vi."

Part two of the reverse verse is here! The reverse boys meet the original boys. They're not really getting along as well as I had hoped...
Again, this was a commission for @i-am-as-normal-as-you-are and they asked for angst/funny vibes... I think it's mostly just angst though. Oh, well...
Part one
#dead boy detectives#dbda#payneland#edwin x charles#reverse verse#there's a lot i could say about this one#the idea of someone telling edwin he's go to hell is absurd as it is#edwin telling edwin? lmao#the charles... oh they hate each other#reverse charles is angry (he always is) because this other version of himself was spared hell... in exchange for edwin going there?#obviously it doesn't work like that. og charles hadn't even been born when his edwin was sent to hell#but anger is not a rational thing. especially not for this boy#og charles? you don't want to know what he's thinking#i'm telling you anyways#he... kind of agrees. if someone had to go to hell#why edwin? why not him? there is an universe in which that happened#so why not this one? unfair#then again... look at this charles who did go to hell#he's explosive. he's DANGEROUS#he shouldn't be near edwin#if og charles had gone to hell would he be the same? would he be too angry to be trusted? would he be like his father?#and if so would that really count as saving edwin at all?#if this is the kind of best friend poor edwin would end up with?#on a happier note though#physical contact!! reverse charles loves it#i don't have all the details but his hell was on the rage ring so it was different to the dollhouse.#and it was a very violent place so boy loves gentle touches#luckily edwin is more willing to give them to him with each year#i think what the edwins are feeling is a lot more clear#but still would love to hear your thoughts

the more we see of harrenhal the funnier it is to me that house strong has produced three of the most normal and reasonable characters on this show, and the fourth is weird in ways that seemingly have nothing to do with having been raised in a haunted castle

How I save time on backgrounds as a full-time webcomic artist
Hi! I make webcomics for a living, and I have to be able to draw a panel extremely fast to keep up with my deadlines. I draw about 50 panels a week, which gives me about 45 minutes per panel if I want any semblance of a healthy work-life balance.
Most webtoon artists save time on backgrounds by using 3d models, which works for them and is great! but personally I hate working in 3d... I went to school for it for a year and hated it so much I completely changed career paths and vowed never to do it again! So, this is how I save time without using any 3d, for those of you out there who don't like it either!
This tactic has also saved me money (3d models are expensive) and it has helped me converting my comic from scroll format into page format for print, because I have much more art to work with than what's actually in the panels. (I'll touch on this later)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, first, I make my backgrounds huge. my default starting size is 10,000 x 10,000 pixels. My panels are 2,500 pixels wide, so my backgrounds are 4x that, minimum. Because of this, I make them less detailed than I could or that you might expect so it doesn't look weird against my character art when I shrink portions of it down.
I personally find it much easier to add in detail than to make "removing" details look natural at smaller sizes, but you might have different preferences than I do.
I also make sure to keep all of my elements on separate layers so that I can easily remove or replace them, I can move them to simulate different camera angles more easily, and it's simple to adjust the lighting to imply different times of day.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then I can go ahead and copy/paste them into my episodes. I move the background around until it feels like it's properly fitting how I want.
Once I've done that in every panel, I'll go back through the episode and clean up anything that looks weird, and add in solid blacks (for my art style) Here's a quick before and after of what that looks like!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This makes 90% of my backgrounds take me just a few hours. This is my tactic when I'm working in an environment that an entire scene, or multiple scenes, will take place.
But many panels will inevitably have a location that's used exactly once, and it would waste time and effort to draw a massive background for those. So in 10% of cases, I just draw the single panel background in the episode. I save all of these, just in case I can re-use it later (this happens more often with outdoor locations, but I save them all nonetheless!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I generally have to draw about 2 big backgrounds per episode, and 3-5 single-panel backgrounds per episode! At the beginning of an arc/book the number is higher, but as the series is continuing and I'm building up an asset library of indoor and outdoor elements to re-use for the book, the number generally goes down and I save more time.
My series involves time travel and mysteries, so there's a lot of new locations in it and we're constantly moving around. If I were working on a series that was more consistent in this aspect, this process would save me even more time!
Like I said earlier, this also saves me a lot of pain and gives me a lot more options as I'm converting from scroll format to print format!
panels that look like this in scroll format...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
can look like this in print!
Tumblr media
because I drew the background like this, so I didn't need to go through the additional effort to add in the extra detail to expand it outwards at all.
Tumblr media
Anyways, I hope this helps someone! As always if it doesn't help, just go ahead and disregard. This is what I do and what works for me, and I feel like I only ever see time-saving tips for comics that involve 3d models and workflows, which don't work for me at all! I know there's more people like me out there, so this is for you!
Enjoy!
Also obligatory "my webcomic" if you want to see this in action or check it out!

My litmus test for deciding if I respect or value a person’s One Piece opinions is looking at the way they discuss Usopp tbh. You can tell a lot about someone based on how they talk about Usopp specifically.
If a person insists that Usopp is useless (whether it’s because he’s not as strong as Zoro or Luffy or Sanji or because he “doesn’t have a real job” on the crew) it tells me that they don’t pay attention to what Usopp does contribute, nor do they pay attention to what the story itself deems useful. Usopp may not be a massive, hulking powerhouse with ultra-powerful haki, but he does have utility in the crew. (And even if he didn’t, he would still belong because they wanted him.)
If a person insists that Usopp is just a crybaby or a coward and that he sucks because of this, it tells me that you don’t pay attention to what he’s doing while he’s running or crying. He might cry or shake or run, but he always comes back. He always stands up and fights in the end. He feels scared and then he does it anyway. It’s easy to forget, but Usopp is just a human in a world of monsters. For him to stand up and fight takes a lot of courage.
If a person insists that Usopp is not strong, it tells me they miss what the story itself tells us about what strength is and what it means to be strong. He has a skill that most do not. He is able to shoot with a degree of accuracy that is borderline inhuman. Whether he can kick through a boulder is irrelevant. Sanji can’t snipe from hundreds of feet away.
If you can’t look at Usopp and see where he fits in the story, I am truly uninterested in anything else you have to say about this story.
