Maybe it's my own humanly fallible memory and I could also be at least somewhat wrong, but I swear I don't remember Starlow being quite as bad as people make her out to be. Like, while she tends to pick on Luigi, it's never really felt out of malice as she tends to respectfully back off if it's been made apparent that she's crossed a line (and her words, iirc, never get quite as nasty as the kinds of things the SM64DS Toad spewed, so she's more likely to get annoyed by his behavior, not vice versa), and she appears to show him more respect in her later appearances. And even if she tends to have an attitude, I clearly remember Kersti being far more obnoxious, so comparing the two feels unfair.

Tbf, the biggest issue, probably, was how few and far between she was called out, which probably slowed her character development. If Mario spoke up as often as one would expect he would with their brotherly bond, I'm pretty sure Starlow would've changed her tune much faster than she did when Mario in the games was, with a few exceptions, standing by silently.

There's a reason why I haven't said a lot regarding Starlow. I've only seen clips of cutscenes on youtube, I've never actually played a Mario and Luigi game before.

Sooo... I appreciate your thoughts! There is a chance the fandom is too hard on the girl, but honestly I wouldn't know. Maybe there's scenes of her being a little nicer to Luigi that I missed? You're better off asking @noelledeltarune or @jell-o101. They're more cultured in the Mario & Luigi gaming sphere.

I got to explain why Starlow is actually a very kind and empathetic individual if she chooses to be and that even though her picking on Luigi isn't okay she's still not a heartless monster because of it cause she quite literally nearly saved Fawful's life simply because she wanted to give him another chance AND NO ONE EVER TALKS ABOUT IT AGH

After 10+ years... After fucking up a save file with action replay because I couldn't get past that damn vile carrot... I have finally finished Bowser's inside story.

What a good game!!! I've known how it ends for the better part of those 10+ years but actually fighting Dark Bowser and hearing the sick as hell track that accompanies him in-game for the first time, felt SO good. It took me far too long but I am so glad I got around to finishing this game!!!

Honestly, thank you. Starlow is NOT as bad as people make her out to be.

This indignation towards her is very similar to the way people unnecessarily bash on Mario for teasing his brother a couple of times in the past. Both Mario and Starlow don't deserve the shit they get.

Snoutlet respects Luigi so he is automatically better than Starlow.

So my personal headcanon about Starlow and Luigi is that she can see his magic aura and it is absolutely rancid due to some combination of the Chaos Heart, Thunderhand, his exposure to the paranormal, Dimentio's lingering magic, the fact he's undead, and the fact he just has magic naturally (see his green fireball which isn't fire it is magic). This, naturally, is very off putting to a Star being.
