So, I finally got round to watching the new Doctor Who season.
I had lost interest since Clara became the companion and after Peter Capaldi was the Doctor. I only watched two episodes of Jodi Whitaker - the first episode and the one with John Barrowman and Jo Martin. I thought both episodes were rubbish. Plus, it took effort to find and download the show, so I stopped watching. I haven’t gotten round to the Tennant specials cos I thought they were just nostalgia bait.
So, I was very sceptical, going in to Ncuti Gatwa’s era. I worried it would be another snooze fest that was more interested in being PC and box-ticking than telling a good story. But I had nothing else to do, and it was on Disney, so I turned it on.
IT WAS SO GOOD. I binge watched the whole thing in two days.
I could definitely see Russell T. Davis’ hand in it. It felt like the Eccleston and Tennant era episodes. It was exciting and fun and funny, but not too silly. They made a social point without being too preachy. Ncuti Gatwa is growing on me - I think the binge watching format made it harder to sink in that, "yes, he’s the Doctor". But I’m getting there.
But, I think it was Ruby that carried the season. There were quite a few Rose-type moments. But she was different enough to be her own person. I liked Ruby overall. She was sweet, she felt genuine, and she was not forced into that “sassy/arrogant” characterisation. I was invested in her story.
Her mum was not bad - Jackie Tyler was still better, imo, cos though she had a heart of gold, she still had her flaws. Ruby’s mum was just too perfect. Gran was hilarious though. I want more scenes with Gran just waiting for someone to finally give her a cuppa.
[ALERT: SPOILERS AHEAD]
Some episodes were better than others. Episode 2 “The Devil’s Chord” was AMAZING; it is the episode I want to go back and rewatch. They should have incorporated “American Pie” into it at some point. Haha! Jinkx Monsoon as the Maestro was brilliant. It was so larger-than-life and over-the-top, it was fantastic. Only thing I hated was the twist song at the end. Cringe.
Episode 5 “Dot and Bubble” was also amazing because of how disturbing it was. How people cannot function - cannot look at the world, can't even walk - without the devices, how Lindy sacrificed Ricky to save herself, how they refused to let the Doctor save them in the end. It felt like a reflection of our society and the trajectory we could be on.
Episode 1 “Space Babies” was pretty lame. If I had seen that first instead of the Christmas episode, I might have not continued. The babies were just cringe, and the snot monster… ugh. Plus, with the space station and giving Ruby universal roaming which she immediately called her mum with - it was a bit too much like Eccleston’s Doctor and Rose’s first outing.
The Christmas episode itself also wasn’t great, but it introduced the characters and the season's central mystery well, and got me interested in them. The episode reminded me of Labyrinth. “Magic Dance” kept running through my head. The bad-luck goblins were funny. Unfortunately, this Goblin King is no David Bowie. Also, no sinister robot Santas or killer Christmas trees that were a staple of past Christmas specials. It irked me a bit that the entire season’s central mystery might have been solved if the Doctor had just went up to Ruby’s mother then. He knew she was looking for her mother. He knew they couldn’t go back cos he couldn’t cross his own timeline. So why didn’t he go to her?? (Ok, then there wouldn’t be drama for the rest of the season. Lol!)
Episode 3 “Boom” was also weak. It tried to deal with strong themes - war, family, faith. It introduced interesting technology. But the story itself doesn’t hold up too well. The way the war started and continued was just too far fetched. I thought it was cool that majority of the thing took place just in that one crater though.
Meanwhile, other episodes left question marks. Episode 4 “73 Yards” was good (I loved the Welsh landscape), but a bit too much of building up to something and then it’s an anticlimax. Eg the people at the pub building up to some horror movie scenario, and then it was just some delivery person at the door. Roger just running away and giving up politics just like that? Maybe I just wasn’t paying full attention, but it was a bit too timey-wimey and weird. What was it that the woman said to all those people to make them run away screaming? Was she really Ruby all along? Where was the Doctor all that time?
And episode 6 “Rogue”… silly story with the cosplaying aliens, but it was a nice bit of fun after “Dot and Bubble”. It made me laugh the way they kept referencing Bridgerton, and how the characters were all about the Drama, with a capital D. The resolution of Ruby pretending to be the Chuldur was very disappointing bait-and-switch. But I love Rogue. I want to see more of him. Why couldn’t he stay? He could be the new Captain Jack Harkness (not that anyone could replace Capt Jack Harkness). Rogue and the Doctor together was something special (and not just in the sexual way). I want him as another companion. But the way it ended, I don’t think we’d see him again.
I don’t have much to say about the last two finale episodes, “The Legend of Ruby Sunday” and “Empire of Death”. It was a rollercoaster. It was intense. It was a bit too “Bad Wolf”. There was a lot going on but I’m not really sure what was happening. I liked seeing Kate from UNIT and the old companion Mel. Kate’s “sign out” line made me emotional. Unfortunately, she didn’t stay dead in the end. I also never watched the old episodes with Sutekh, so I don’t think I got it. The scale of the destruction was just too big in this story. The Doctor just randomly going down to that planet to get the spoon… why? If Sutekh could track dead skin cells then why couldn’t he get to the Doctor instead of through Mel? And just conveniently, the DNA test law pops up. Did Ruby find her mother in the database or not? The end resolution with the magic rope and thingy felt, again, like more bait-and-switch. I was intrigued about the concept of how Ruby’s mother is not actually important except that they had placed importance on her, thereby imbuing her with more worth. But I don’t get why Sutekh couldn’t see her or why he cared. But again, maybe I wasn’t paying full attention. The end ending was sweet - how the Doctor didn’t think Ruby should go talk to her mother but Ruby did it anyway and it worked out well. And then more questions at the end. Who exactly is that neighbour woman?
I hope Ruby returns next season. Honestly, I watched this season more for her than for the Doctor. I'm glad I gave this season a chance. I’ll watch next season, for sure.

Unpopular Opinion: David Tennant Should Never Have Returned To Doctor Who
When a teary eyed David Tennant as The Doctor uttered the words “I don’t want to go” in his 2010 generation scene, it was a heartbreaking moment for fans. Saying goodbye to such a universally loved incarnation would be hard, but this was Doctor Who. Change was inevitable, and often, exciting.
So when the BBC announced that Tennant would be returning to the iconic role 15 years on, as part of a series of 60th anniversary specials, I was sceptical.
It looked like I was the only one though, as the internet erupted with anticipation and jubilation. I, however, thought the 14th Doctor reveal was a huge distraction that disrespected both the outgoing and the incoming actors.
Don’t get me wrong, Tennant is one of my favourite modern Doctor’s. His mid 2000s run as the 10th Doctor was funny, frightening, heartfelt and unforgettable. He had some of the best companions and villains, and some of the smartest and most compelling stories. But all good things come to an end, and now his emotional first exit felt a bit hollow.
His return really took the shine off Jodie Whittaker’s finale. Yes, her years as the 13th Doctor were responsible for some of the worst Doctor Who storylines in recent memory. But this was hardly her fault, and instead of enjoying her last moments as The Doctor and reflecting on the good bits (the first female Doctor in the show’s history), fans were shouting at their screens for her to hurry up and regenerate so their favourite could return. It was almost like the show was doing a reset and hoping we’d forget about her.
It also meant that the now 15th Doctor (Ncuti Gawta, the first gay, black Doctor in the show’s history) had to wait a little longer to make his debut, which seemed on-the-nose too.
The BBC were making it crystal clear who they thought their most popular Doctor was. Tennant has had more screen time than any other modern era Doctor, and now he’s the only one still alive and kicking post regeneration across all eras. Haven’t they ever heard of 'jumping the shark' or having too much of a good thing?!
He had four consecutive seasons from 2005-2008, with a fake regeneration at the end of Series 4 that saw him get cloned and live happily ever after with Rose Tyler on parallel earth. From 2008-2010 he travelled sans companion in a series of specials, before reluctantly regenerating into Matt Smith. In 2013, he made an appearance alongside Smith in the 50th anniversary special.
And now in 2023, he’s done three extra episodes alongside Catherine Tate reprising her role as his much loved Series 4 companion Donna Noble. These specials ended with him bi-generating (one Tennant Doctor, one Gatwa Doctor - don’t ask!) and continuing on as The Doctor, complete with his own TARDIS. He will, he says, stay put on earth to let Gatwa go off and have his own adventures. How generous of him!
Firstly, Tennant’s latest run didn’t feel like a 60th anniversary either. Instead it felt like a very late follow up and conclusion (or even an alternative ending) to Series 4, so the opportunity to include other cameos and celebrate the show’s rich history was lost.
In ‘The Star Beast’, the monstrous Meep really just provided a reason for The Doctor to see Donna again. In ‘Wild Blue Yonder’, The Doctor and Donna fought creepy doppelgängers of themselves (again, talk about self-indulgent!), and in ‘The Giggle’, Neil Patrick Harris’ promising Celestial Toymaker did little more than put on a funny accent and do a funny dance.
Sure, it had some fun and heartfelt moments. I'm glad the DoctorDonna Human-Time Lord metacrisis has been resolved. The Doctor's tender moments with Donna were nice. His two redheaded companions (Donna and Mel) holding his hands as he "regenerated" was touching. Even Tennant and Gatwa's interactions were surprisingly sweet. However, the whole jaunt just felt like an excuse to reunite Tennant and Tate and capitalise on their lingering popularity. Which leads me to my second point…
No other actor has been able to continue on as The Doctor, so the fact that this is the first exception to the rule shows that the studio is very obviously playing favourites. They are keeping Tennant’s sprightly sneaker wearing, pin stripe suited spaceman up their sleeves to roll out whenever they please. If the ratings plummet, they can bring Tennant back. If the fans want it, they can bring Tennant back. If Tennant wants it, they can bring Tennant back. Does anyone else smell a spin-off?
Thirdly, I don’t buy the idea that The Doctor can be - and wants to be - domesticated at all. Despite everyone telling him that he needs to stop and slow down, he has never once done so. In every incarnation, he/she is an energetic, chaotic and forever on-the-go entity that can’t stand waiting or having to sit idly by.
So, all of a sudden we're expected to believe that he’s going to stay with Donna and her family and just hang out on earth like a regular human? I doubt it. He even said it himself to Rose in Season 2, when trying to justify why he can’t settle down. "You can spend the rest of your life with me. But I can't spend the rest of mine with you." If bi-generation had have happened to Peter Capaldi’s 12th Doctor, I might have accepted it better because he said he wanted to rest. It would’ve made more sense there.
And lastly, but probably most importantly, everyone loves a bit of nostalgia, but bringing beloved characters back from the dead to get ratings up again isn’t a good enough reason. In reality, it just reeks of lazy writing or a lack of creativity, and in turn, a lack of closure. The whole point and poignancy of a show like Doctor Who is that The Doctor must change and move on, as we, the audience, have to move on.
When someone plays The Doctor, they do it for a limited time but they leave a lasting legacy. Having Tennant on standby undermines that. I want the writers to invest in their new actors and have faith in their new adventures instead of having earlier models waiting in the wings.
So for me, the best thing about these three specials and the finale wasn’t that Tennant didn't have to say goodbye this time. It was that Gatwa finally got to say hello...

Doctor Who Rewatch Season 1, Episode 1: Rose
Ouhhhhh this has everything: shitty CGI, bad camera work, a scene that just has the same beat playing under it because I guess they couldn't afford real background music. The classic zero budget doctor who creativity of taking all ubiquitous object (mannequins) and making it the monster of the week. There's some potential with the living plastic plotline here to get into some real pollution anxieties and the horror of how plastic has woven its way into every corner of human life, but the show doesn't take it that far and sticks with scary mannequins with gun hands. Some really good moments with establishing the ninth doctor's character, one of the more openly cynical and grim portrayals of the character (feels so resonant with Capaldi's era, where the grim/cynical aspects are at the surface and act as a cover for the heart underneath, whereas David and Matt both play surface level goofiness as a cover for darkness underneath). Coming in strong with openly stating that he doesn't care if Mickey lives or dies, looking forward to the character development that brings us to "Just this once, everybody lives!" in The Doctor Dances. As always, I love Rose Tyler the working class hero we deserve <3 epic woman who hasn't passed her A levels

The 'who am I to argue with history?' 'Usually first in line' scene from the Doctor dances did irreparable damage to my brain. I'll say things like 'who am I to complain?' And the Rose Tyler that has permanent residence in my brain will say 'usually first in line' and I can't even argue with the sentiment
#ace is a mess#dw posting#sort of#who am i to judge? usually the first in line. not right now mental rose tyler figment#this happens more often than id like to admit and if i was ever to respond with usually the first in line outloud no one would get it 😔#anyway the doctor who brain rot is all consuming

DOCTOR WHO: THE CHURCH ON RUBY ROAD (2023): A Christmas special and the first full story for Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor and Millie Gibson as their friend Ruby Sunday. Unusually, Gatwa got a lot of screen time in the previous special, "The Giggle," presumably so that viewers could get used to the new actor, but this is Gatwa's first proper outing. While the three specials with David Tennant were a much-appreciated throwback to what the show was in 2007, this one shows what the show will be going forward. It immediately feels more modern than the previous specials, despite having the same showrunner (a returning Russell T Davies) and production team. In most respects it's standard Doctor Who fare, but the differences appear in subtler choices about tone and presentation, which show that a lot has changed since 2007.
The good news, and biggest question to be answered, is that Ncuti Gatwa has the charisma to carry the series. There is a lot going on in this performance, some of it unexplained.
What is clear is that Gatwa is extremely charming, to the point where the Doctor's first interactions with other characters tend to raise the question, is this flirting? The performance then goes on to clarify that the answer is no, but we see how people quickly fall under the Doctor's spell, charmed by that smile. This is also the most explicitly queer Doctor Who. While other Doctors had variations on one basic outfit, Gatwa's Doctor changes outfits frequently and cares about being fashionable - fashion which initially mirrors Ruby's. Gatwa is athletic and muscular, and prefers low necklines that show that off. We've seen this Doctor with bare legs and bare arms, and lots of interesting costumes. The actor's reactions to situations often feel gay-coded, or at least unbothered about being perceived that way. Doctor Who has often been very clearly gendered in the past, with the Doctor standing strong against the monsters while the female companion cowers in fear. Gatwa seems happy to play both sides of that role as needed, projecting either unshakeable charisma and confidence, or occasionally the sort of submissive fear response we'd expect from a Jo Grant. What this means for Millie Gibson's Ruby Sunday, we'll have to see.
Their time onboard the goblin ship also involves a full-on musical number, with singing and dancing, although David Bowie (Labyrinth) is not involved, having passed in 2016. Russell T Davies included newly-written musical numbers in his Christmas specials when running the show previously, but it's never been quite this overt.
Earlier, they go out dancing at an LGBT-friendly club, with the Scottish Gatwa in a kilt and yellow tank top, fully raving. Trans actress Mary Malone (The Prince) sings onstage accompanied by Ruby on keyboards. Mary is a minor character but it's enough that she's there. Trans actor Pete McHale has also been cast for the series, and Yasmin Finney (Heartstopper) of course appeared in "The Star Beast." Jinkx Monsoon (RuPaul's Drag Race) has been cast as a villain. Star names include Neil Patrick Harris in The Giggle and Jonathan Groff (Hamilton).
The casual subtext here is that people of color exist, and LGBT people exist, and are important to these stories. People who are not cishet white men exist. This has been the case, behind the scenes, on Doctor Who, since the very beginning, with the first episodes directed by Waris Hussein and produced by Verity Lambert, with a theme produced by Delia Derbyshire. However, this wasn't always reflected onscreen. Classic Doctor Who always had a gay fanbase, and had leaned into that by the 1980s. And Russell T Davies' 2005 Doctor Who worked harder to appeal to women, foregrounding the character of Rose Tyler and playing up the romantic aspect of The Doctor himself. However, there was a strong negative reaction, within the older fandom, to the casting of Jodie Whittaker and Jo Martin as The Doctor. A large chunk of the existing fanbase outed themselves as overtly bigoted.
For his part, Russell T Davies has been including elements in these specials which seem intended to drive these viewers away, such as Donna discussing (in Wild Blue Yonder) how gay the Doctor is really, or the Doctor asking The Meep The Meep's pronouns. Hopefully the bigots have stopped watching by now, so we won't have to hear much more of their whining. I have heard a lot of complaints about the unusual new Sonic Screwdriver, enough that I suspect they're really complaining about the unusual new Doctor Who. There is not, otherwise, much to complain about yet.
The monster of the week plot is a bit weak, and there's a lot about these goblins which isn't explained, and which is handwaved away quickly. The Doctor, at least, gets to waffle on about deciphering a language made up of ropes, knots, accidents, cracks and coincidences. That part sounds interesting, and suggests something evocative which isn't quite explained in full. The goblins also look good - mostly practical suits, and using every penny of the money Disney is adding to the coffers of these specials. An overarching mystery, or two, is also set up, involving Ruby Sunday's parentage … and neighbors. Davies had already hinted that an overarching villain (or villains) was coming, and this is a similar but more subtle way to keep viewers watching, until all is revealed. Running time is a bit of a problem here. The first twenty minutes pass slowly, while the last fifteen minutes cut a lot of corners. We don't have time for that, the show says, or we don't have time for that this week anyway.
Ncuti (pronounced Shuti) also excels at the real-world drama here, especially in a strangely-written scene with Ruby's adoptive mother, in which both are aware that something is missing, or has gone terribly wrong, but they're talking around their feelings about it. Here, Michelle Greenidge dampens the warmth and charm we've seen in other scenes with her, and won't look the Doctor in the eye. We must assume we'll be returning to this situation later, as there is unresolved story and it's populated with character actors -- Angela Wynter as the grandmother, Anita Dobson as the neighbor Mrs Flood, writer Gemma Arrowsmith as a social worker.
As for Millie Gibson as Ruby Sunday, the writing is a bit of a problem here, because it takes the character awhile to warm up. She is written strangely during the first twenty minutes of the special, and has very little reaction to the strange events around her. She is introduced doing an interview with TV presenter Davina McCall, which is not quite as relatable as, say, Rose Tyler eating some chips. But I respect that, for a character who initially appears to be Rose Tyler Again, the writing and performance resists the urge to make her literally that, at least in this episode. In practice this means that the character takes some very strange and disturbing events in stride as if they're normal, or as if they're nothing … then has a delayed reaction to it all at the very end of the special, both emotionally and in terms of figuring out what's just happened. I liked her a lot more in these moments, since we can now actually tell what she's thinking. It is made explicit in the script that she is having a delayed reaction and couldn't stop to think about all of this until now. Which is … strange.
Of course Ruby trusts The Doctor immediately and that explains most of her performance here, but there's something lacking in the writing, in terms of presenting Ruby as an actual normal human woman. (Clara Oswald had a similar problem.) Perhaps it's just that Russell T Davies lacks recent life experience of this kind. It feels like a later Marvel movie, where so many cataclysmic and magical things have occurred that people don't react to them like a normal person would anymore. This extends to the plot as well. Something happens to Ruby's family home which is absolutely a major problem, and which does not get solved during this special. I am reminded of how Rose Tyler, Donna Noble, and Amy Pond had to be relatable, while others like Clara Oswald simply had to be there. Is Ruby, like Clara, simply a mystery to be solved? She certainly has chemistry with Ncuti and fits well enough into (what we used to call) the traditional companion role.
Despite a typical Doctor Who plotline, and the presence of Russell T Davies as showrunner, this doesn't quite feel like 2000s Doctor Who. It's clearly a piece of streaming television in 2023, and that has changed the show in ways which are hard for me to define. I am curious how this will play out in the full series, once I have a better idea of what Russell T Davies and company are up to here.
As far as technical concerns go, it is typical for current television series to be a bit dark and murky. There shows were often shot as low contrast video, which would look very grey as raw footage, and then graded for HDR monitors that do not exist yet for the average viewer. In this respect, this special is a lot better than you'd expect, and actually better than the previous specials. It doesn't have the super-bright, overlit look of Doctor Who of old, but you can see everything, and there's usually a bright, contrasty rim light making Ncuti Gatwa's features stand out, as well as Millie Gibson's. The tradeoff with this is that the photography and editing rely too much on closeups, which are often a bit too close. It's not especially moody, but it's not an especially moody story. It's also fairly colorful. A club scene uses what Youtubers call "bisexual lighting," and most exterior scenes are surprisingly diffuse and subtle, with flatteringly soft visuals. This could pass for a current feature film, on the lower budget side, and the key locations of Ruby's family home and a pirate ship are convincingly portrayed. The audio is where I had the biggest issue, although it may be my setup. It sounded like this was mixed for 5.1 rather than the stereo speakers I was using, although everything was audible and it wasn't as bad as it could have been.
The Church at Ruby Road is a good showcase for Ncuti Gatwa's intensely charismatic and charming Doctor, which is all it really needs to be. Despite the presence of Russell T Davies, and familiar Doctor Who tropes, it feels different from 2000s Doctor Who in ways which aren't easy to define. Stylistic traits from the Chibnall and Moffat eras of the show seem to have survived into this one, more than I would have expected. Millie Gibson's Ruby Sunday is pleasant enough, but frustratingly hard to get a handle on as a character. (Think Clara Oswald rather than Rose Tyler.) The language of television and film has changed in the past two decades, and I think that's affected how these characters are written and portrayed, in ways that feel a bit distancing, at this point. I'll have more of an opinion about this as the series goes. But it's a good start and we'll see where things go from here. It's also a fresh start, with The Doctor alone again, rather than hanging out with Bonnie Langford. It's bold and confident about what it's doing, and overtly queerer than the show has been before, with or without the aid of Bonnie Langford. I am not, at this point, entirely sure what the show is actually doing, but I'm interested in finding out.

Ranking Doctor Who Episodes from Series 1
I’ve previously claimed that Christopher Eccleston is my favourite doctor, and most of that is due to nostalgia. But let’s look back at his series and do a bit of a dive into which episodes I like and why.
There are 13 episodes in this series, but for the sake of my rankings I will be counting 2 parters as 1 episode, meaning there are 10 rankings in this video.
That being said, let's begin.
Number 10: The Long game
The Long Game is hated amongst most of the Whovians for a few reasons.
So humans are on a spaceship with no aliens around, even though they're not banned. They broadcast the news from their head and it is all run by the Bad Wolf Corporation.
Despite having Simon Pegg in this episode, it is just kind of low par.
And I really dislike Adam in this episode.
Number 9: Aliens of London/ World War Three
The Slytheen family aren't that bad. They just have a simple sense of humour. They're supposed to be a bit of fun.
These episodes provide us with Jackie slapping the Doctor, and Mickey saving the day. He really proved his worth.
Rose just trusts the Doctor whole heartedly in this episode, but we are reminded that she is just a kid.
Number 8: Rose
Despite being the episode that brought back Doctor Who, it is a bit subpar to the other episodes in this list.
It was nice to see the autons as a villain but some of the special effects in this episode were bad even for the 2000s (Auton Mickey).
Rose saved the day in this episode claiming she's got no A Levels, no future etc. It was a nice speech but in the end all she did was Tarzan swing at the doctor and then he literally had to catch her. At least it worked?
Number 7: The End of the World
This is a series which definately builds and gets better throughout the most part.
The End of the World is sweet. That's pretty much all I can say about it. I liked Jabe, but she died.
A lot of people died in this episode.
Also, Rose really comes across as racist in this episode. Then again I think she is also homophobic (as seen in the Empty Child and the Doctor Dances when Jack goes to flirt with the guard).
Not much to say about this episode. It's sad that no one saw the planet die. And I like Cassandra.
Number 6: The Unquiet Dead
This is the episode which is classed as the Christmas special in this season, even though it came out in March. It's set at Christmas and features Charles Dickens.
I enjoy the characters in this episode and the plot. It's a sweet episode.
It is also the first episode where we see Rose and the Doctor as true companions, holding hands and ready to face death together.
Number 5: Father's Day
This is probably what would happen if you took a 19 year old travelling through time and space. She'd want to save her dad.
I think this episode is rather dark. The Doctor and Rose argue a fair bit, and then the Doctor dies.
It is nice that it's not Rose or the Doctor who saves the day. It's an ordinary man, Pete Tyler, being brave.
Number 4: Bad Wolf/ The Parting of Ways
A great finale.
The Daleks are back.
The Anne Droid.
Jack.
What more can you want? Plus, this being Eccleston's last couple of episodes, it means a lot.
His 'No' speech is amazing. His speech about being Fantastic is brilliant.
My only problem with this is it dated itself a little bit. Yeah Big Brother has come back now, but it's not the same as it was back in 2005.
Number 3: Boom Town
There is one person in this episode that annoys me, and that is Mickey. He asks to spend time with Rose, asks her to get a hotel room and basically hints that he wants to jump on the bed and do the bad thing- and then he tells her he's seeing Trisha Delany and that by being with Rose he's cheating on the girl from the shop.
The scene with the teleport is funny.
Jack brings out a darker side to the Doctor. The Doctor says no to taking Blon (Margret) to dinner, but as soon as Jack says he can electrocute her, he's suddenly down for it.
It's overall, just a really well acted episode, and I enjoy watching it.
Number 2: Dalek
My sister told me that her first memory of Doctor Who was seeing Adam and Rose on the stairs, and Adam is mocking the Dalek for not being able to get up them, just for it to say "Elevate" and start levitating.
This episode is brilliantly written.
And it's the first time we hear "You would make a good Dalek" and it actually means something.
Number 1: The Empty Child/ The Doctor Dances
Are you my mummy?
These episodes are terrifying and wholesome both at the same time.
The winner in this 2 parter is love.
The speech about everyone living is great, and the woman who says her leg has grown back makes for a funny little gag.
We are intoduced to Captain Jack in this episode.
Plus, Colin Baker (the 6th Doctor) claims that these two episodes of Doctor who are his favourite. (He said this on a panel at London Comic Con).
So what do you think of my list? Do you agree? Let me know. As always, remember this list is just opinion based and you are entitled to your own opinion.
Stay wibbly wobbly guys!

Wolfstar Au: Epilogue pt2 (The final part of Parties and Morning Regrets)
pt 1 of the fic
read it on ao3
epilogue pt1
and we’ve reached the end! tagging @icitlali for the very last time, at least for this fic. i had such a good time writing his epilogue and i’m sort of considering writing a whole, longer fic all through snippets of videos. the pacing would probably be different but like,,, i’m really considering it now
July 31
A child’s birthday party. Party streamers and balloons are hung on the walls and from the ceiling. This kitchen was different from the previous ones. There were a few children seated around Harry, who’s in front of a cake. A chorus of “Happy Birthday” was heard.
“Harry! Interview time with your favourite uncles”
Harry was in frame, while Remus and Sirius were behind the camera.
“What’s your name?” Remus asked the first question.
“Harry Potter”
“What age are you today bud?”
“I’m 4!” He held up 4 fingers to the camera.
“And who are your friends?” Remus asked.
“Ron and um his brothers”
It was Sirius’ turn now. “And how are we feeling today?”
“Great!” Harry jumped up from his chair and ran towards the camera.
Sirius flipped it, showing Harry with an arm around Sirius and one around Remus. He then ran off to join his friends.
Remus was pulled by the sleeve into a kiss before he blocked the camera and Sirius turned it off.
August 24
A wedding. James was behind the camera while Sirius and Remus were in frame. They were slow dancing at their wedding, surrounded by a small number of friends. Lily and Harry were on the dance floor too.
The camera moved from the happy couple to Lyall Lupin who, when noticing the camera on him, wiped his eyes with the back of his hand.
“As the only parent of either groom to be at the wedding, do you have a comment?” James’ disembodied voice asked.
Lyall looked into the camera and smiled. “Yeah, I’m- I’m proud of my boy, I’m really happy for both of them… they’re very lucky to have each other”
“Any wisdom for them to watch back later?”
“Wisdom” Lyall laughed. “I’m afraid you’ll find I’m not very wise, Remus can attest to that but… just hold onto each other, things will be hard but don’t go to bed cross and slow dance in the kitchen to the radio whenever you can”
The camera panned back to Remus and Sirius. “If soulmates exist, it’s definitely them” Lyall added before the camera switched off.
Sept 2
The camera showed Sirius and Remus. Remus’ eyes were puffy and red, he was sniffling. Sirius had an arm around him and kissed his temple.
“Guess who just finally got around to watching the wedding footage” Sirius jerked his thumb in the direct of the man next to him.
“Hey dad, if you ever watch this… thanks, I love you” Remus leaned his head on Sirius’ shoulder then looked up. “I love you too”
Sirius chuckled. “You’re such a sappy idiot”
Remus laughed, covering his face. “Ouch”
“But you’re my sappy idiot” Sirius kissed the top of his head. “I love you too”
Oct 31
Remus was dressed as the 10th Doctor, sitting in an armchair with a bottle of beer in his hand. He was sprawled over the chair, his eyes slowing falling shut.
The camera moved to show the rest of the room. Everyone was dressed up in various costumes, chattering with loud music playing.
Sirius flipped the camera, he was dressed as Rose Tyler. He sat down on the armrest of the chair Remus was falling asleep on. “Only my husband could fall asleep in the middle of a Halloween party at 11pm”
“I’m not asleep Sirius” Remus mumbled, eyelids lifting a little. His hand snaked around Sirius’ waist and pulled him down to his lap.
“Watcha doing Mr Lupin?” Sirius laughed, readjusting to a position that was a little more comfortable.
Remus rested his chin on Sirius’ shoulder, peppering his neck with kissing. “Cuddling with you”
“You’re very affectionate when you’re drunk”
“Not drunk” followed by a kiss on Sirius’ jaw.
“You got hammered the second we got here because you know we’re staying over”
Remus shrugged, pulling Sirius closer and tightening his grip around him. He hid his face in the crook of his neck and mumbled something inaudible before Sirius switched the camera off.
Nov 3
Another birthday scene. Sirius was eating a slice of cake, talking to James.
“Interview time” Remus’ voice sounded from behind the camera.
James turned to listen, chin resting against his hand. Sirius sighed and turned around too. “Okay, go”
“State your name”
“Sirius Lupin, née Black” He smiled, clearly fond of being able to say that.
“What age are you as of November 3rd?”
“29”
“Who are your friends?”
“Lily, James, Marls, Pete, Dorcas, Mary and Yaz”
“And who am I to you?”
“You, are my wonderful husband”
James made a face. “You guys are so sappy- gross” He pretended to be disgusted but the smile on his face betrayed him as he stood up and went out of frame.
The couple laughed for a few moments and then Remus asked the last question. “How do you feel?”
“Honestly? I’ve never felt better”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah”
Sirius stood up and the camera turned off.
Dec 25
A christmas tree with an abundance of presents underneath. Remus is curled up on the couch with a big black dog asleep next to him. Harry was on Remus’ lap, head tucked into the crook of his Uncle’s neck. He was fast asleep and Remus was reading.
“Remus!”
Remus looked towards the camera, smiling when his eyes landed on Sirius. “Yeah?”
“I love you”
“I know, I do too”

I've been tagged by @elorianna to do the writing tag game! Thank you very much 💖💖 For those of you who don't know, I actually write Fanfic!
How many works do you have on Ao3?
I've written a mere 6 fics 😳 I still have to grow my collection! I also write for a couple of fandoms aside from Milex - Finn and Poe from Star Wars, and I have one Gorillaz 2Doc fanfic.
What’s your total Ao3 word count?
10,634 - not many at all! I mostly post oneshots. Maybe one day I'll post a work that's that amount alone. The only public document I've written that was that long was my dissertation😂
What’re your top 5 fics by kudos?
1. All We Are
2. Into Place
3. Why Not?
4. Of the Morning
5. The Element of Surprise
Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I don't get many comments so I try to reply to them all as they mean a lot to me! Thank you commenters! 🥰
What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
Oh definitely 'All We Are' - it's my only Gorillaz fanfic so far and I think the nature of Gorillaz as a franchise demands that it has darker undertones, especially the themes of the history of how Murdoc has treated 2D in the past. Spoiler alert but I kind of like that Murdoc doesn't pursue his feelings and cuts it off - it feels very in character.
What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
Literally all of my others tend to have happier conclusions - I just like to see my ships get together haha! I would say 'The Element of Surprise' has the happiest ending - I just wanted Al to have his death ramps ring back so it was purely self-indulgent😂
Do you write crossovers? If so, what is the craziest one you’ve written?
None yet! I did have an idea to pair Finn and Poe with Inside Llewyn Davis, although it's probably more of an AU than a crossover - perhaps Poe (in the starving artist role of Llewyn) meets Finn at one of the Gorfiend's dinner parties and it continues from there? Who knows bro🤷🏻♀️
Have you ever received hate on a fic?
Not really, everyone's been very kind!
Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I do write smut but I've only ever published one piece, 'Not Safe For Comms' - it took a lot of courage to post that one because even though writing's writing at the end of the day, smut does have a reputation per-se and, lets be honest, no one wants to read bad smut, so I had to make sure it was just right - it takes a lot to really build it up and make a reader feel excited about it and believe it. Maybe more is to come (har har) if I get any more ideas 👀
Tbh I just prefer to read it (who said that?)
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I don't think so?
Have you ever had a fic translated?
Not to my knowledge!
What’s your all time favourite ship?
That is a huge question!
I LOVE Milex but I'm currently only really reading it and not writing it - no particular reason aside from a general lack of content and inspiration atm but this could change with Miles' new album and potential AM7? 👀
Can't lie, I'm really digging FinnPoe/Stormpilot the most atm. I have so many thoughts and feelings about them but I'm just upset that disney didn't go for it and put them together - it's literally tangible: their whirlwind meeting where they saved each others' lives and Poe gave Finn his NAME, the lip bite™ at the end of Force Awakens, the dynamic of the dashing flyboy pilot falling HARD for a rebel stormtrooper he just met, the way they bicker like a married couple, god I love it. It's also no secret that I'm currently on an Oscar Isaac hype and the fact that both he AND John Boyega were actively rooting for them to get together (even saying they played the roles romantic) just makes me love them even more. We were ROBBED!
I also ship the Tenth Doctor and Rose Tyler(my TRUE otp since 2006) Cassian and Jyn from Rogue One(why they gotta die like that) and The Eleventh Doctor and Clara (they're just cute alright!) as well as many more!
What’s a WIP you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
I also tend to also scrap things that just aren't working. I had a Milex one where the lads played a flirty game of pool set in 2005 but I was wrestling with it for so long that I just let it go. I also wrote around 10k of a fic where Alex was undercover and Miles was a crime boss😂 but I felt icky about it cause even though I made Alex an independent detective in a noir style it still felt a bit copaganda-esque and I didn't like that. The only WIP I currently have is a very basic FinnPoe one(inspired by Oscar dancing in Ex Machina cause I am what? Basic x) but I think I only like it for how I've written the ending so I need to find a way to get that to work 'cause I really like it!
What are your writing strengths?
I'm not the best out there - I mostly write for myself haha but I think I'm pretty good at description and scene setting, as well as some exposition.
What are your writing weaknesses?
A lot of things tbh, even though I did creative writing at A Level 🙃 I struggle with plot a lot(hence the oneshots), and sometimes dialogue stumps me. It's all a learning process!
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
I've never had a reason to, but I'd have to get it translated accurately if I did. I think it's also important not to alienate a reader as sometimes I read stuff and it's a bit jarring if you're not sure on the meaning.
What was the first fandom you wrote for?
Milex is my first published fic, but I think I wrote for maybe Doctor Who back in the day? I've been reading fanfic for years, though.
What’s your favourite fic you’ve written?
I have so few that I like them all! I do like my Gorillaz one which is surprising as that one took me the least time to write and I didn't even expect to write it at all - it's somehow my most popular fic(maybe the gorillaz fandom is just super active?) and I think the more angsty ending gave me a lot more to play with.
#oh wow look ive written an essay 💀💀#thank you so much this was so fun???? makes me wanna continue with that wip i talked about ahaha ive been realy neglecting writing recently#writing tag#fanfic#my fanfic

lover’s past
ao3 link rating: gen relationship: Tenth Doctor/Rose Tyler, Thirteenth Doctor/Rose Tyler Warnings: no apply Prompt: Reunion Summary: Long time ago, The Doctor promised Rose Tyler that he wouldn't forget her. Did they keep the promise? A look back on the scene from the Revolution of the Daleks
They were so in love.
Two people who found each other among the big universe.
They used to remember the way she smiled on the way to the TARDIS after the danger was over.
They had it all for the moment.
The grand love, and all it came with it; excitement, possession, happiness, jealousy and trust. They were friends who danced among the stars. They gave one of their lives away for her and changed for her - literally learnt to live again with her. It was almost like a younglish love that left you stunned.
They used to remember how worried she seemed after their meeting with Sarah-Jane. She feared her mortality. They pledged they wouldn’t treat her like their previous companions. They didn’t lie, after all it was so different - like being given another chance after the war about which they would eventually forget in the future.
Likewise every grand love, it was tragic. It used to move them to tears, once. They felt this weird twinge in their chest, now at the very least they could remember the pain. Poor girl, they would think if they tried to think of her face. In the past they were ready to rip the whole universe apart, the very same universe that brought them together, just for her.
She was mortal. After that meeting with Sarah-Jane… They were both moved. Even though they wanted to bury this fear, they couldn't. The lovers knew one day she’d leave him. They were so scared for her. Anxious of losing her and their own loneliness. Back then it made a difference for them. They felt like they used the time they had together to the fullest but it still turned a lot shorter than they wanted it to be. They thought they were the first people to laugh, to experience a relationship so strong. Their love was burning even after they had to part and after they met again, years after. After all, they promised they wouldn't forget about her…
…
An enthusiastic voice reverberated around the TARDIS.
“... I can be killed but I come to life pretty quick. Partially her fault, partially a friend’s on Earth called Rose.’’
To Jack’s wonder she didn’t move. Even though she didn’t seem to participate in the conversation, she listened to him. But her expression didn’t change, no memories flooded her brain. She still wobbled with the TARDIS. She didn’t completely forget but became indiffierent.
The Doctor forgot about the promise they made so long ago.

For anyone accidentally finding themselves in the tag: Good Omens season 2 spoilers incoming.
You summed it up well..... how indeed could they give me everything I wanted and then rip it away. I'm crushed.
The first minutes of season 1 made me so giddy. I was screaming at one of my friends that the "Crowley Was Raphael Before Fallen" headcanon was a teeny tiny bit confirmed coz he made the stars. He made stars!
And Gabriel and Beelzebub? Definitely not on my bingo card for headcanon confirmation. I love them. I kinda shipped them as a joke after s1... I love that outcome.
But the end of ep6? I'm crushed. So utterly crushed. It was everything I wanted.
I was on the edge of my seat awaiting the confession. The joy and happiness and.... nothing.
I'm not even in the mood to read fix-it fanfiction. I mean I definitely will head to ao3 after dumping my emotions here and then considering the worth of actually starting to go to therapy. Would be a funny story, eh?
Yes, I am seeking your assistance because season 2 of Good Omens broke me into pieces. Ha.
Season 2 had so many joyous moments.
The first scene of ep1? Perfection.
The catch a bullet trick? The show of the trust that Aziraphale has in Crowley even when neither of them can perform a miracle to save the situation.... it was too much.
Don't get me started on the dance. The apology dance had me crying of laughter and the ball dance had be giggling as if I'd be reading fluff fanfictions.
Or the many Doctor Who reference I was yelled to my friend about constantly.
Aziraphale knowing perfectly well how to make a good plan and not play damsel is distress? But it makes Crowley happy to be the one to save Aziraphale. I can't. I literally can't handle my emotions.
There's so much more and honestly whoever made to this part of my trauma dump or whatever you want to call this.... are you aw crushed as me?
I was begging. BEGGING. that Aziraphale would step out of that elevator. Through tears. I held onto hope that we would get Aziraphale realizing that he made the biggest mistake of his life.
Don't get me wrong.... from his point of view it makes perfect sense. Aziraphale still believes in the good of heaven. That he can actually make a difference. He's so naive and good and sees the good in everyone. Even all the angels in heaven. I love Aziraphale so much, but I want to strangle him right now.... it's confusing.
Crowley's confession? I don't know how I can live on now. I feel so dramatic. Sorry to open up old wounds but it did remind me of Doomsday. "Rose Tyler, I- "
I'm sorry. But I did beg them to not do a "Rose Tyler, I -" scene. I yelled that at my screen. Really hope I didn't wake up anyone.
So yeah that's my current emotional stage...
How could they give me everything I wanted and rip it away from me so cruelly...
I desperately wish I was not so drunk watching season 2 because the last episode has now made me think I need a therapist.
I'm... so upset. I'm crying.
How. How could you give me EVERYTHING I WANTED AND THEN RIP IT AWAY FROM ME LIKE THAT
