You close your eyelids, frowning at the stabbing sensation creeping into your brain. It's always like this when you try to sink into the stream of time, pondering what's yet to come. The price for this wicked foresight is torment of both body and soul, intensifying as your senses expand.

You see, you hear, you feel. The moisture in the air, the sound of water droplets hitting the ground, the wind rustling through the grass, the capillaries in your nasal cavities twisting and rupturing before blood gushes from your nose.

As you casually wipe away the red fluid with the back of your hand, you suddenly realize certain truths that have always been part of you. 

You are an aberration, something repulsive. An Abomination. 

And abominations must be eliminated—so they say.

You let out a long sigh, allowing your mind to drift through the past, present, and future—every possible event and situation. You watch it all with a numb mind, as if you've seen the same movie hundreds or thousands of times, a movie whose ending you already know well.

Yet there's one thing you still don't know: which ending will the path you're on now lead to?

Something pulls you out of your meditation, coinciding with the moment you sense someone's piercing gaze openly fixed upon you. That man is watching you from the shadows behind a large tree, not with malicious intent but with curiosity mixed with several other complex emotions too ambiguous to explain.

You remain seated in meditation at the same spot, amidst the blood and corpses of the Jedi, not daring to move, almost forgetting even to breathe.

You are the last one still breathing, the final victim of the Jedi massacre carried out by the mysterious Sith—The Stranger who is now closely observing you.

His face is completely hidden beneath a dark, twisted metal mask. Yet you can still feel his gleaming eyes surveying your body, as far as sight allows, focusing excessively, even invasively.

The curiosity in his mind is so intense that you find yourself trembling.

You see visions of what might happen—there's a high chance he'll rush in to slice you to pieces with his red lightsaber, searching for secrets or whatever might be hidden inside your body. Or he might subjugate you with his Force, using his power to penetrate your mind, deep into your subconscious, hoping to taste the forbidden fruit of secrets that you alone possess.

But he will never know, as long as you don't wish him to.

The scent of death hangs heavy in the air as heavy footsteps crunch over gravel, approaching you slowly, like a predator toying with its prey. You freeze, every muscle in your body tense, as you face the tall figure in dark cloak, his visage concealed behind a strange metal mask carved into a distorted smile.

For a moment, this man reminds you of the grim reaper from ancient religious myths that vanished thousands of years ago.

He is the harbinger of death everywhere he goes, including your own death

Awareness strikes like a warning signal. Various possibilities flash through your memory, similar to how a dying person recalls everything that happened in their life.

You instantly realize how crucial this moment is. This is an incredibly fragile juncture. 

There's a fifty percent chance he'll kill you, and another fifty percent chance he'll spare your life. 

Fear spreads throughout your flesh, imprinting itself on your soul, turning your blood ice-cold. Your pulse races with panic. 

You take a deep breath, quickly focusing, trying hard to regain control of your shaken mind. "I must not fear," you mutter to yourself, the same phrase your mother used to teach you as a child. "Fear is the mind-killer, fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration..." 

A low, hoarse laugh escapes from behind the metal mask. Clearly, he heard what you said. "Oh, I think you should fear," he says, his words teetering between mockery and sarcasm.

You know he wants you to fear because, for the Sith, fear leads to power.

 You do the opposite, swallowing the lump of fear in your throat, maintaining a calm demeanor as you force a faint smile for the person before you. 

"Humans fear what they don't know, just as they fear me, and just as they fear you." You pause momentarily, carefully considering your final sentence, which could determine your fate. 

Finally, you speak, firm and unwavering, "But I know you, so I do not fear." 

There's a fifty percent chance he'll kill you, and another fifty percent chance he'll spare your life—this thought returns to your mind once more.

He had always kept his secret well, never letting anyone who knew his true identity survive.

You know well that your revelation will bring about an end that changes everything, both for better and for worse.

This is the gamble you've already placed your bet on, for this purpose and for this moment.

The lightsaber hilt in his hand remains tightly closed, showing no sign of the red flame that has taken countless lives. He kneels before you, his action clearly revealing vulnerabilities in his body. You could easily grab the lightsaber from the Jedi's corpse and behead him in one stroke.

But you don't kill him, just as he doesn't kill you.

You look into his eyes, he looks into yours, gauging each other in silence.

His large hand reaches beneath his mask, unlocks the mechanism, and slowly removes it, revealing the familiar face in your sight.

His face is sharp in every proportion, with messy jet-black hair. His eyes, once gentle when touched by sunlight, now cold as ice, contrast starkly with the smile slowly spreading wide, in the same fashion as the smile on the mask he wore earlier.

"Qimir"

His name sounds strange when you utter it, as if it's not a name you're familiar with, and the man before you is not the man you know.

The man chuckles softly and moves even closer, cutting off any chance for you to escape. You swallow hard, trying to turn your face away from his intense gaze. But he doesn't let you. His fingers, wet with others' blood, dig into both of your cheeks, pressing hard enough to hurt, forcing you to look only at him.

"Surprised?" He leans in closer, his hot breath on your face, and whispers softly in your ear, "I told you, you can't run away from me."

I'm a trans dude, and 100% top, older than most of you guys, and my experience as a top in the gay male community spans 10+ years. In reality, he was trying to throw dirt on his victim to destroy their credibility if they dared speak up about him. That what he did to them was nothing compared to the traumatising artwork he was subjected to.

If you've had the stomach to read through Ang's evidence comprehensively, you can likely spot his DARVO in the very conversations he's had with others.

Ladies, gentleman, and others of differing persuasion, Kyle is playing the long game. He knows there's people out there who want to hurt him - he's relying on it.

His past is littered with him pushing for the victim label in whatever scenario he can manage, even if it's totally inappropriate for him to do so. He's daring people to attack him... so he can turn around and pin it back onto Ang.

Making Ang the offender and him the victim, once again.

If you can't stem your hatred for this despicable man, then focus on your support for Ang. Ang has expressed multiple times that the do not want harm to come to any of their abusers.

As grim as it is to say, think about Ang's legacy.

Think about what your actions say about them.

Think about how Kyle and his defenders will twist your actions as malice rather than grief.

Think about what we as a community stand for - anti harassment, anti doxxing, anti harm, and most importantly pro accountability

I understand we're all hurting. I understand that, after all our pleas, we've been effectively kicked in the teeth once again. When I heard Ang and Puppy's news, I could feel my very soul being crushed. If I was allowed, I would have rot in my bed in grief. I, too, wanted vengeance.

But that's not what Ang wants, and it is everything we stand against. Please, please, please; if you or a friend are considering harming Carrozza or Youmacon staff, reconsider. Find that spot of humanity and humility in your being, and hold it close.

Don't let Carrozza and his ilk attack what we stand for.

The sounds of coughing echoed through the halls, and Fenn cringed. He had gotten really used to the sounds of coughing over the last few weeks, what with Eddie being sick, and now Rain's illness. There was something different about these coughs, though, and it made ice flow through his veins.

"You okay? Here," Fenn nudged the cold bottled water towards his partner, "Take a drink when you can." He rubbed Rain's back as they continued to cough.

"Damn, think you can cough any louder? Sounds like you're hacking up a hairball." Chucky laughed, gaining a glare from Fenn.

"If you're not gonna help me take care of them, could you at least leave them alone?" The ex-con snapped at the killer, "They're feeling bad enough without your mouth."

"I am helping!" Chucky defended, pointing with the remote to the TV, "We just watched all 10 Saw movies!"

Fenn rolled his eyes, his voice dripping with sarcasm, "Yeah, the guts and gore really cured them." Frustrated, he continued, "They're sick! Would it kill you to show a little concern for their wellbeing?" Maybe he was overstepping into their relationship, but Rain was the light of his life- he couldn't imagine a world where he didn't show his concern and love for them every single moment he could. "Y'know, one of these days Rain is gonna need to know that you actually care about them."

This seemed to strike a nerve with the killer. "Hey, the kid knows that I care!"

"You sure have a damn funny way of showing it," Fenn responded, looking down to Rain when their coughs subsided and they drank their water.

"Guys, please," Rain said softly, hating the sound of their two loves fighting, "My head hurts..."

"Sorry, babe," Fenn said softly, pressing his lips to their forehead briefly, "We're all done now. How are you feeling?"

"Like I've been hit by a truck," Rain answered, the energy they had felt earlier quickly being replaced with a lethargy common of their illness. "I think my fever is coming back."

Fenn reached out, placing a hand on their forehead with a frown, "Yeah, you are pretty hot..."

It had to be close to midnight when Rain awoke, the gentle whimpers of their misery able to be heard throughout the room. Fenn was fast asleep in the chair next to the bed, arms folded over his chest. He had been up all day taking care of his beloved partner, and he was pretty damn tired.

Rain knew this, so they didn't call out for him when the feverish chills began to wrack their body yet again. They stayed quiet, ready to suffer in silence... Until they felt a presence settle in beside them.

"Alright, alright, hey, knock that whimpering off. Come here." They turned to see Chucky climbing into the bed, arms opened. "Come on," He muttered, "Get over here."

Rain did as they were instructed, resting their aching head against his chest. The room spun slightly, but they clung to Chucky as if he alone could keep them anchored.

This made the killer's chest ache in a way that he hated. Rolling his eyes a little, he stroked their hair. "Look, I'm not good at this caretaker crap, that's what you're around for."

He thought silently for a moment about how true that really was; It was always Rain taking care of him, or Fenn, or one of the others. They always seemed to want to take care of someone, and he never could figure out why. The clinging, the cuddling, the sappy words, it was all too touchy for him. And yet, there he was, holding them.

"Just look at what you're doing to me," Chucky grumbled for a moment, then watched as their face went from pained to a soothed smile as he threaded dexterous fingers through their hair. He never had that affect on anyone- But Rain never had been normal. They were a bit of a fool. An overly trusting fool who liked to hang around - and at this moment find comfort in - a killer like him. He had to admit, though, it felt kind of nice, being depended upon.

Rain's breathing started to ease and even out, and they had fallen asleep before he could tell them to do so.

"Crazy kid," Chucky muttered to himself, rubbing their back and feeling their warmth, "That dumb ass taste in men is gonna get ya killed..." His tired eyes flicked quickly over to Fenn, who was still sound asleep, "Eh, maybe not all of 'em... You got a few good ones." His eyes grew heavier, and he stifled a yawn. It was getting harder and harder for the killer to stay awake between the late hour and the warmth of his love in his arms.

The sun rose high, light pouring into the room where the three lay. Fenn, always the early bird, was the first to rise. He had just stretched his stiff muscles and decided that he definitely wasn't going to be using that chair as a permanent bed anytime soon, when he noticed that Rain's bed was occupied by more than one person.

The ex-con stood up slowly, not wanting to disturb the scene in front of him; Chucky and Rain with their limbs entangled, fast asleep together. It didn't take a genius to figure out what had happened in the night, and Fenn couldn't repress the smile that built on his face. He leaned in cautiously to feel Rain's forehead and found it sweaty and cool; Their fever had broken.

"Look at you go," He smiled, brushing their hair back before straightening up and placing his hands on his hips, "That's two stubborn things you've broken in one night."

name/nickname: lori age: 34. i am the mom friend. pronouns : she/her only, please years of writing : writing itself as an intentional act, probably since about age 10. but i've been conjuring up stories since around second or third grade.

reflection .

why did you pick up writing? like i said above, it's been my hobby for basically my entire life? i couldn't give you a reason. some people become artists, some people become musicians, i became a writer the same way i've become a teacher.

do you have any writing routines? by this point i really should, but i do not. i think i'll probably start setting myself realistic goals over the summer so that i don't fall as far behind next school year as i have over the past year. since i went back to college and everything after that ( fulltime jobs, grad school, moving, an actual career job ) i've really struggled with keeping my blog consistently active, and i think that damages my ability to interact and make new connections. so, i'd like to get back into feeling like a part of the community instead of just idling on the fringes of it.

what's your favorite part about writing? it's a huge creative release for me, and i think it's also helped me to process a lot of the things i've gone through in life. i don't think i'd be as mentally stable as i am if i hadn't poured all of my angst (tm) into writing early on and throughout the years when those things happened. but also, it's just very enjoyable for me to continue / explore the stories of characters i love in new ways. ventium said this too, but i also really like the social aspect of rp specifically. getting to talk excitedly about ideas and characters with someone else is what puts the bow on top for me.

three things you like about your writing. looking back at my old writing which is, regrettably, still online but mwahaha you'll never find it - i can see how much i've grown as a writer and how i've tried so many different ways to do the Writing Thing. i think i'm very good with worldbuilding and lore aspects of writing, but i think i can still improve on characterization and making sure each character has a unique voice. i have some extremely strong muses, like clare, who tend to bleed through into some other characters - though, for characters like kaeya, it sort of works. anyway, uh, yeah.

have you ever given up on writing? no, though i go through phases sometimes where i just don't have the writing mojo. but i've learned to show myself grace and not force it. whether i write every day or not doesn't change the fact that i'm a writer, and it doesn't mean i'm a bad rp partner if i take a break to tend to my offline life. my friendships don't expire and my threads don't either, soooo...

what is your greatest fear or worry as a writer? i don't think i have one. i used to stress SO MUCH about being perfect but maybe i've just gotten older and i don't see it that way anymore? i've had rp blogs with 2k+ followers and rp blogs with less than 100. the same 10 people interacted with me on either of them, so i don't even notice my follower count anymore. i'm not super stressed about my characterization ( even though i know it can always improve ) and i know my worldbuilding is good. i guess the only thing that i sometimes think about is that my activity is very low, which, like i said earlier, makes it difficult to form and maintain connections in the rpc. but i appreciate the people who understand that my offline life is very demanding and takes like 90% of my mental energy each day. not really worried about the rest tbh !

In an Olympics of Blasphemy and Gender Controversy, Turkey's Yusuf Dikeç is the Hero We Need

The 2024 Paris Olympics can't get out of their own way. Between blasphemous opening ceremony moments to rage and counter-rage over gender-challenged individuals competing in women's sports, it seems that naught but controversy flows through this Olympiad as surely as the river Seine.

Enter Turkish cat lover Yusuf Dikeç.

The 51-year-old Dikeç, who gives every impression of being the poster child for mild-mannered, inoffensive middle-aged men everywhere, apparently had nothing much going on this week. So, he decided to take a vacation to France, while there spending some time casually enjoying his hobby.

The tweet isn't completely accurate, as Dikeç was wearing earplugs. That duly noted, the medal part is true. Dikeç and his partner Şevval İlayda Tarhan, who is less than half Dikeç's age, won the silver medal in the 10-meter air pistol mixed team event.

Dikeç's casual air is no act, but rather the natural byproduct of a man comfortable in his own skin and with his skill.

“I shoot with both eyes, most shooters do it with one. So I didn’t want that all that equipment. Shooting with two eyes — I believe that it’s better. I’ve done a lot of research on it, so I didn’t need the equipment,” Dikeç told Turkish radio station Radyo Gol. “Shooting with my hand in my pocket has nothing to do with artistry. I am more motivated and feel more comfortable while shooting,” he said, adding that this stance “is actually about bringing the body to equilibrium and focusing and concentrating.”

Dikeç is no newcomer to competitive shooting. He first medaled in 2005 at the Mediterranean Games. Including his newly acquired Olympic hardware, he has won 10 gold, 11 silver, and six bronze medals at 10, 25, and 50-meter distances in assorted international competitions. I believe the appropriate expression, albeit slightly dated, is “mad skillz.”

One of sports' greatest strengths comes from relatable athletes. The ones who are affable and personable when not competing draw the greatest fan base because, despite the obvious difference in physical talent, there is a common thread binding us together. A prime example of this is Caitlin Clark, who, all the mean girls' garbage thrown her way by assorted sulky WNBA players notwithstanding, clearly loves playing the game and being a normal, likable person off the court.

While little is known of Yusuf Dikeç away from the shooting range, he gives every appearance of utter normalcy. Or, at the least, normalcy as embodied by someone who could literally shoot the lights out while giving all indications being able to do so is as matter-of-fact as ... oh, having a kitten perched on your shoulder.

i've had this idea in my mind for... years at this point, i guess, just swimming around in the back of my mind. and it Hit me again thanks to the show so here we are

i'm not looking for a roleplay partner, which seems to be the "norm" nowadays. my plan: a pjo rp forum site, hosted on jcink or proboards, whatever works. forum roleplaying was a big part of my online experience growing up and god i just MISS it

i have basic ideas, ill put them under the cut

the bulk of the rp would be character building, threads in camp and elsewhere - but i have this main gimmick idea for "quests":

they would be primarily crafted by admin (who have first dibs for playing cabin counselors too), and assigned to players who signed up to be on the quest "waiting list". admin (which would have a shared account so it didnt matter specifically Who) would play the parts of NPCS - including monster encounters. if/when gods showed up, they would also be played by admin

i'd love to implement some sort of ttrpg dice system, with quickfire threads for combat separate but linked to the main thread. monsters would have different stats, etc. and players could even consent to character deaths when signing up for quests!

demigods wouldnt be the only type of character available to make, but it would have to be the majority. satyrs, i think, would be the most numerous "side characters", maybe nymphs around camp. those details arent important rn tho

what i'm thinking:

with admin, i'm looking for people who know how to code and create custom layouts, graphics etc. ideally, 2-3 people so its not all one one person

i'd want the timeline to be vaguely post-pjo - meaning, there are more than the 12 cabins, less unclaimed demigods, etc. but its been a while since ive read the heroes of olympus and i've barely cracked open the first trials of apollo book so idk what Happened to affect the site's timeline/lore. so in my mind, it's just post-last olympian.

also, i wouldn't want to have canon characters - at the most, they'd be NPCs that are rarely used.

i know a big thing is that people have lives, and i have no idea what the forum-rp scene is like because i haven't been involved since.... god(s) idk, around 10 years???

me personally, i have the free time to be willing to overlook the site and get everything written out; admin i would want to be more active, of course, just enough to keep things running

age-wise, it wouldnt feel right to make it a 17+ forum, this is a kid's series after all. i think 13 is the limit for most if not all forums, and i'd be fine with that. player ages shouldn't be broadcasted, we could have some sort of Minor/Adult indicator but idk if even that would be necessary.

and i'd want at least a "proficient" level of writing, whatever the terms were - rp posts wouldnt need to be whole novels, but at least a chunky paragraph that the partner could work off

i'm hoping the popularity of the show will give me a chance to actually do this >:3

Do I Follow Them? Chloé and I go waaaay back! Damn, how long has it been now? 3 years? Longer? Many seasons in any case x'D We've written a lot together, in several fandoms and verses and every single one has been a delight.

Why Did I Follow Them? If I'm not mistaken, she approached me from Fish blog for...uh, I can't even remember which muse of mine we used first and foremost. I don't think it was Will nor Abigail because I added them later 🤔 Well, in any case, I was presented with this amazingly solid character, written by someone who is so very talented in both writing and arting. I would have been a fool to turn her down! Fish is lovable in all her iterations, even the ones where she's anything but a good person, and she's incredibly versatile, which makes writing with her with basically all the possible characters really easy! Imagine my delight when I found out about the multimuse 😎

Do We Role Play? Do most human beings perceive the sky as blue? xD Duh. I don't dare to count how many threads we have (and yes, Chloé, I know that they aren0t many for your standards, but I travel at a whole different wavelength xD). We use basically all my main muses with plenty of theirs! We've built and discussed a lot of dynamics and each of them has a special place in my heart 🖤

Do I Want To Role Play With Them: Abso-fucking-lutely YEAH! Chloé is one of my mains and a dear friend by now, so I hope that we'll write together for as long as possible. Plus, there are a few interactions we are planning that I'm very eager to explore, so I'm looking forward to when my slow ass will find the time to get them started!

An AU Idea For Our Muses: Oh damn, we're already doing a couple of AUs and I'm kind of drawing a blank on more ideas. Off the top of my head? An AU where my Smith trio has supernatural adventures instead of sci-fi adventures (very much Ghostbuster like, as a vibe, but not limited to ghost) and they have to deal with Salomé in her demon verse or with Vampire Fish?

What I Think About The Mun: What good things can I not say about Chloé? I've praised her and her skills plenty of times. She's an amazing write, a wonderful mutual, a super talented artist and a great friend. I'm so, so, so glad to have crossed paths with her. Her friendship means a lot to me and she's been there for me when I needed it. Not to mention that they are one of my favourite writing partners, and I love every interaction we have, no matter how small!!🖤🖤

Overall Opinion: I could say a lot, but I'll sum it up like this: if you're not writing with Chloé, you're missing out one of the best RP partners you'll ever find on this hellsit.

10. Cltr+f "blinks" on your WIP & copy paste the first sentence/paragraph that comes up

This taught me that my characters almost never blink lmao. Here is the first instance of "blink/blinked/blinks" I could find, which is from my Celrond Arranged Marriage AU WIP:

Elrond hummed and adjusted in his saddle, the dappled light sifting down painting his hair into a latticework of red and black (she hadn’t realized he had red in his hair, but now in this light she could see his was not black so much as it was a multitude of different shades of brown— he had braided a set of blue ribbons in his hair. She wondered how long that had taken).  She was staring. Celebrían blinked and looked away, feeling her face heat, and reached down again to stroke her mare’s neck. 

58. What part of the writing process do you enjoy the most? (Brainstorming, outlining, writing, editing, etc) 

Brainstorming gets a slight edge when I am working with most writing partners except @the-commonplace-book - in which I place both brainstorming and writing directly equal to each other purely because we write in an almost 'improv' sort of way in the first draft, so her parts of the story come as a complete surprise to me, which I then get to bounce off of! And we've been writing/brainstorming with each other for so long that brainstorming is just as fun -- because we reach this sort of synergistic state where the idea just flow.

But when I'm by myself I prefer the first draft stage. Brainstorming can often just kind of feel like I'm either daydreaming or knocking my head against a wall, depending on how well it's going. But it's not until I'm actually putting pen to paper/fingers to keyboard that things actually start to happen, and often characters will just make choices that take things in a completely different direction than I had planned. On the best days, it's just really fun, like I'm watching it all happen outside of myself and writing it down. It all feels fresh and brand new and like pure play to me.

71. When it comes to more complicated narratives, how do you keep track of outlines, characters, development, timeline, ect.?

Oh, buckle up lmao. This could get long.

I tend to use the classic five part story structure if I must outline, starting with the inciting incident, the rising action (usually choices or actions the MCs are taking to respond to the inciting incident), the consequence - usually leading to rock bottom, a climax/confrontation, and then the resolution. It really helps me visualize things on a large scale. I like to actually sketch out a plot timeline with a mountain/chevron shape to it, label it with the story structure and plot points, and then usually in a separate color I will label out individual characters' arcs within the big five part structure. My trusty five part structure hasn't failed me yet tbh and it tends to work no matter the genre.

I also like to think not only of the actual plot beats, but about where characters start at the beginning of the story and where they end emotionally. Like, I sit down and go 'okay, I have a character who has THESE flaws, fears, misconceptions, etc. What do I, the writer, need to do to get them to a place of healing or enlightenment?" -- because this is going to look very different for each MC. Sometimes characters need help and you have to bring in outside forces, but sometimes bringing in outside forces wouldn't be helpful at all. Stuff like that. And that's something that I have to develop hand-in-hand with the plot to make sure that the emotional journey is going to line up with everything else going on.

And there always comes a time (usually when I am halfway through a rough draft) where I go "ah shit, I'm getting all of these loose ends and I DO NOT want to forget about them!" so I wind up having to angrily sit down in front of a blank document and type out all of my little chekov's guns and loose threads and make definitive decisions about how I am going to resolve them, because otherwise I will 100% forget to do that. And then I have to rework my entire ACT II or ACT III outline. Sigh.

If I'm dealing with a very large cast, I've found it helpful in the past to keep folders for POVs. So all of Character A's chapters will go in one folder, and all of Character B's chapters will go into another folder, etc. etc. I then like to read through their chapters and make sure that their arcs make sense on their own and feel complete. For editing purposes I've found it helpful to color code character POV chapters on my outline (blue for character A, green for character B, etc) to make sure at a glance that nobody is getting left out or given too much page time!

This is not something I've had to do too much with fanfic yet. It's stuff that I learned while writing my original novels. Especially with fanfic I'm very touchy-feely with my pacing lol. I tend to go 'huh, I feel like we need to spend more time here, or that it's time to move on'. Stars was written by the seat of my pants (and it shows, considering there are whole ass characters that get introduced and then promptly dumped). But for Boundless Sky, these techniques have been part of the process, and I'm also employing them with Partake. Like, with Partake I sat down and worked out a five act structure specifically for the Lindon arc, because I'm very concerned with getting it right lol. If the Lindon arc bombs then I've ruined the whole fic, y'know? 😅 That would be a disaster.

I also love using pinterest and world anvil for getting general ~vibes~ and keeping track of character "casting", photos of sets to use when describing, and for keeping track of worldbuilding. It's super helpful! If I'm feeling especially lazy (which is often), though, what should go on World Anvil languishes in some monstrous frankendocument on drive which I then have to ctrl+f my notes on any given topic, like, constantly.

Jdorama 2023 Spring

Kyojo 0 (12.1) / 教場０風間公親 Stars: Kimura Takuya and others

I’ve been looking forward to this drama even before it screened 🙈 I LOVED the SPs. The format of the series looks like it's different. The SPs intercut between several key characters, forcing you to keep track of several narrative threads at once, meaning it's a bit of a cognitive challenge to stay alert for the whole 4 hours, but it's also a format I quite enjoyed because the interactions between students are key to the story. The series seems to go the classic episodic police procedural route. The opening episode has Akaso Eiji and none of the other big names, and I wonder if this means the students won't interact.

Sometimes the messaging in the SP is a bit murky, but the first episode managed well. Kazama quickly picks apart several flaws that makes Urihara a dangerous policeman: not noticing key details, jumping to conclusions, thinking he can talk someone into a confession without having enough evidence, lying to a suspect about key evidence, precipitating a young child's asthma in order to get the father to confess.

Ultimately, Kyoujo is supposed to be a crime solver and not commentary on the police system, but I do find the reflections on ethics interesting. The situations are ethically ambiguous, and the series rarely offers a "model answer", but what it does is to tease out the biases individual policemen can bring to their work and how that could lead to harm...and I think that's a very worthwhile examination.

Watashi no Oyome-kun / My Mr. Bride / わたしのお嫁くん Stars: Haru, Takasugi Mahiro

Haru is seriously getting typecast in these OL dramas...and the personalities are all kind of the same. Based on manga, this is about a woman who is excellent at her work and a man who is excellent at housework, and how they, presumably, live together in subversion of traditional Japanese gender roles.

There's been quite a few dramas lately about career women who can't manage housework finding a male partner who is good at it. It's interesting to watch the progression of the attitude through the years - when Nodame Cantabile and Hotaru no Hikari screened back maybe 10 years ago, Nodame's messiness was a tool for humour, and Hotaru's lack of grooming AT HOME was treated self-deprecatingly as laziness. In Watashi no Kaseifu Nagisa-san from 2020, though, while there was some comedy in Mei's messiness, it was much more matter-of-fact about the fact that yes, as a full-time (+overtime), high-achieving, hard-working career woman, she couldn't also attend to her domestic cleaning, and compromises had to be made.

And this drama continues that trend and is a little more frank about the discussions. Why should a woman who is good at her sales job - by regularly preempting and meeting customer expectations - be constantly told that she would make a good bride instead of being appreciated for being an excellent sales rep? Why should a woman feel like being a good housewife is the lifetime achievement rather than being good at her job? Why should a two-income household where both partners hold demanding jobs expect the housework to fall onto the woman?

This is supposed to be a romcom, so inevitably amatonormativity doesn't come into the discussions (especially since Japan wants to increase its marriage and birth rates). But to do that, Japanese culture is likely to need an overhaul on its gender roles, especially as more and more women find that they are more fulfilled by staying in the workforce than marrying off to become a housewife, where they get no respect, no social contact and a husband who has no appreciation of how much work they do.

I would love to have my mutuals have rules/about pages so I can understand their muse better and know how they conduct their blog. I may not follow if I cannot see your pages, and I prefer roleplaying with mutuals. However, asks are welcome!

BASIC INFO: Sada is a dreamer and a hard-worker. She has sacrificed her time with her son to achieve the paradise for her family, where Pokemon of past and present can live in harmony. The destruction of the ecological balance is a risk she is willing to take, and as a Lawful Evil character, she is ready to take a stance against anyone who would try to stop her from achieving her dream.

Arven is her pride and joy, and she truly regrets the neglect of her son, yet, she has sacrificed too much to go back now. She has to achieve the paradise to make amends to her son, she cannot go back empty-handed.

Sada adores her Pokemon team of Paradox Pokemon, and her two Koraidons. However, she does baby the first Koraidon she had brought to the present, which is why the passive Koraidon will be called "baby" affectionately by her and this page. 

Sada, even after her separation from Turo, still loves him so, and respects him as the father of Arven. However, she is also hurt by his decision of being uninvolved with Arven's life.

Other than Arven, people Arven might care about, and her Pokemon, everyone else is on thin ice. If Turo could leave her, so could you. She will not make the same mistake again.

HISTORY:

Sada has been the biggest history nerd Paldea has ever known. She was also fascinated with the idea of Pokémon from other ages, especially from the ancient past.

Professor Sada and Turo were the high-school sweethearts, who went to the Academy of Paldea together, and later become part of the team that explored the Greater Crater of Paldea.

With Director Clavell's support, she had solved the mystery behind the terastal phenomenon and named the crystallizing energy "Terastallizing". Her research contributed to the making of Tera Orb, which allowed Pokemon outside of the crater to terrastallize as well (which was also offered to the Academy).

Her contribution in making the protype Tera Orb helped her get the funding needed for further research, and she set up her second lab in a lighthouse near Cabo Poco.

After a breakthrough in her research she moved back to the Zero Lab in the Greater Crater of Paldea, though she would still work at Lighthouse as well. Sada succeeded in developing a time machine that would allow her to reach out to Paradox Pokémon, Pokémon from the ancient past, by transporting Poké Balls to different points on the timeline to catch them and bring them into modern time.

Arven, her dearest son, came to her life, and shortly after, Professor Turo had left their life. Sada still loves him so. In her pursuit of a paradise for her family, Sada continued her research.

After an incident where her first, precious Koraidon was seen by the others around the Lighthouse, Sada had to spend most of her time at the Zero lab, since she could not let Koraidon be seen by the others. (This did not stop her baby Koraidon from visiting Arven lots, though he would start to blame his mother's disappearance on the dragon and start to resent him.)

Sada was determined to make her paradise a reality, and had to achieve it fast without missing any more years she could have spend with Arven. To hasten the process and keep the secrecy, she made an artificial intelligence of herself.

Sada and her assistant, AI Sada would also bring the more powerful Koraidon to the present through the time machine. To her dismay, the Koraidons did not get along, and Sada found herself deescalating many fights between the two.

Sada also developed the Poké Ball Lock System, an ID-based defense mechanism for her lab. After the sacrifices she had made, she could not let anyone stand in her way. (This makes her unafraid to take some cruel actions if needed.)

Sada dreams of past and present Pokémon existing in harmony, however, she is ready to take the risk of ecological balance being disrupted. Destruction is a natural part of life. 

A territorial battle between the two Koraidon would take place, where Sada would misjudge the situation and her strength. She ended up taking a mortal blow from the stronger Koraidon while protecting the baby Koraidon from the other. This also led to the destruction of Research Station No. 4, and Sada eventually passed away.

Pokemon team (Will match with the Pokemon RPer if needed**)

Apate the Scream-Tail: Her favorite Pokemon for sure. Scream-Tail and Sada’s bond could rival her and the baby Koraidon’s bond, almost. Both tricksters, they had fun whenever Professor needed time to unwind. With her fairy and psychic abilities, Scream Tail would help Sada sleep when an intervention was inevitable. Apate was named for being a trickster, and the daughter of the night :)

Athena the Slither Wing: The fighter pokemon who is wise enough not to fight unless necessary. This also is why she was selected to be in Sada’s team, when she did not attack Sada but only defended herself.  Named Athena for being a goddess of wisdom and war. A pokemon of few words/cries, she is more fond of being present during Sada’s research. Due to Sada and Apate the Scream Tail being inseperablle, Athena ended up learning Zen Headbutt as well. (Apate’s bad influence.)

Janus the Brute Bonnet: The Pokemon from the ancient past who saw the future he never though he would end up being a part of. As a Brute Bonnet tied to nature and the dark forces, he was gifted with the power of Precognition. This gift meant that he knew what would become of Sada when he befriended her, and his resistance to being her friend to spare himself the heartache. However, even the pokemon of two faces (the red and white both foreseeing the Pokeballs of future and also symbolizing two faces that look into the past and the future) could not save himself or defy the fate.

Aglaea the Flutter Mane: Joining the professor out of boredom, Aglaea is the most competitive of them all: a pokemon of various moves, all a different type, except Fairy. Though the fae origin is not denied, Aglaea leans more into its ghost nature. She and the Professor enjoy each other’s company, and Sada’s fashion choices can be partly blamed on this Flutter Mane’s influence.

Aite the Sandy Shocks: This grumpy Pokemon has lived for thousands of years, before being snatched by Sada's time machine. He is known for his mischief, despite being grounded enough to control his impulses... for the most time. Enabler of Sada's most reckless plans, he got his name due to being a god of mischief, blind folly, rash action and reckless impulse. He is basically the shoulder devil of Sada.

Achlys the Roaring Moon: Perhaps the strongest pokemon and almost ace Pokemon of the professor, Achlys' and Sada's relationship is of respect and deep trust. Though not affectionate and outright cold toward each other, Sada loves the dragon more than anything, and can be found wrestling with the roaring moon as a part of her training regime. Achlys is indifferent toward humans, and acts almost like the leader of the team, keeping everyone in line. After Sada's accident, he barely accepted his position to remain as a part of the Paradise Protection Program. He had returned to the ancient past, but can be summoned by AI Sada into the present during the final battle.

I think it's telling that I can't really remember the content of most of the episodes. I liked WinTeam in Until We Meet Again. UWMA, on the other hand, is not one of my favorites. I could go on about why I don't find it to be one of the best BLs, but rather mediocre. The story was good, I like the idea of the red thread and being connected across generations thanks to fate. But DeanPharm just couldn't win my heart but were instead so...annoying. WinTeam, on the other hand, did. I liked their chemistry and how they interacted with each other, how easy they seamed to be with each other and how they could be themselves around each other. And while I wasn't necessarily eagerly anticipating Between Us, I thought it was nice to see them again.

Unfortunately, I found that their chemistry seemed to have faded. I just couldn't buy their relationship anymore. They may offer good fanservice behind the camera and truely like each other and take care of each other, but in front of the camera the spark was gone. Maybe it's because they weren't WinTeam from UWMA anymore. It's now WinTeam from Between Us and they seem to be different people. Even though we didn't learn much about their backgrounds in UWMA, we could sense that there was trauma and yet the story of them was deeper than in Between Us (imo). Now we know some of the background, some of the trauma, and we also see how they dealt with it.

Team breaks down, cries, remembers his trauma, has nightmares and Win comes like the knight in shining armor and rescues him from the moment. I know my take on the subject is a bit harsh. I also know that some wish for exactly that and such romanticization of rescue from trauma, from the spiral, from one's own mental problems through love is taken quite positively. I am more of a realist who has had enough of mental problems being played down, not being taken seriously, and trying to be portrayed as so simple that all that is needed is for the right partner to come along, two claps of the hands and you are on the road of healing (personal attitudes and experiences play a big role here). Here it is important to note that this is my personal opinion. If this series is exactly what you need right now and you like this portrayal, then that's absolutely fine. But since this is my hell site of a blog, I'll say what I think about it, and at some point, I didn't care anymore about the story or their traumas, I'll be honest.

The entire series felt like a very stretched out single episode. That's my impression of it. It was packed with characters and relationships (too many for my taste), but the characters remained blank. There was so much space to describe them, but the space was not used. If someone asked me what Between Us was about, I wouldn't know exactly what the story was. Was it dealing with trauma and how you can still love and find a home in another person? Was it about how friends with benefits become more? I don't know, were they friends with benefits? It started with a consensual ONS, okay, no problem. But after that, Team was more on the Blushing Maiden side of things. Even at the end, when their relationship status was settled, Team used the broccoli plushie as "protection" from Win's advances.

Yeah, I didn't warm up to the series, and in the end, I don't care about it. It will fade from my memory, and I won't miss those memories. It is not a bad series, but in my eyes very boring.

All things considered, that leaves me with 4.5 out of 10 stars.
