BNHA 428: This chapter made me annoyed and yet it was still somewhat better than I expected?

Himichako. I like it, it's a good ship- not one I'm crazy about, but the vision is compelling. I mean, the loved girl on hard times who admires honesty but represses her feelings + hunger motifs, and the formerly wealthy and rejected girl who's honest to herself but masks her sadness from others + drinking motifs? Being so similar at their core from selfishness, bleeding love, admiration and imitation? Yeah, why not, sign me up, it looks fun.

(plus Ochako needed a subplot that would shy away from Izuku because oh boi her writing is messy-)

Then the ending annoucement happened and I immediately went "oh no" when I remembered that tidbit. But. Yesterday, I remembered this page from 424, which in hindsight makes sense:

Shoto moving forward and choosing to not dwell on his past anymore, because he wants to know the man he wants to become alongside his family of choice.

Spinner feeling so much grief for Tomura inside his room, his extra Quirks add up to it. Further gut points as it was all because of AFO, but the wrong person is getting the blame.

Ochako looking lost and dissatisfied, not really saying anything about Himiko's status; then her hidden injury which left a scar that'll never go away, nothing can change that.

And then, well, a sky with a chance to fight for a "bright future". Which is the most ambiguous you can get for anything, really, sequel or not.

(sidenote: is it me or the panel where she's touching her stab wound looks like a tangent line?)

Okay so, I went into the chapter, with Pikahlua's translations. It was A Chapter alright-

If it wasn't the antepenultimate chapter, the "filler" would've been welcomed. But I guess it means we should focus on the smaller details, I guess? Like that 1st year saying Izuku filled him with courage and Izuku immediately thinking of Spinner's pain? Yeah he hates himself and that people call him a hero, when he considers himself a murderer, and will never forgive himself for failing Tenko, therapy for him and everyone in Class 2-A please- yeah it was a fun detail. Also the throb of hiding your pain of "defeating" someone you wanted to save but in the end everything is miserable but everyone else is happy and you don't wanna be a bother. Fun.

Also I wasn't the one to point the out, but looking at the uniform (U.A. uniform blazer for boys + the tie with a dot for girls), the student who's a Izuku fan is probably trans/gnc, which I appreciate a lot :D (Damn Izuku attracts so many queer people I wonder if that's a sign- /hj)

Also, I guess Class A stating "[Bakugou], Midoriya and Todoroki were at the heart of it all" then focusing on Ochako is good foreshadowing on how her own battle wasn't fully recorded? It's like saying in the end her fight didn't matter, but the other ones went "well", so she's trying (and slowly failing) to keep her sadness at bay because, well, everyone's happy, so who cares? Another "throb".

I thought since the Todoroki family issues are out in the open, didn't they record the whole thing? Then I re-read it, they only saw the family stopping Touya from exploding. So they didn't see Shoto trying to talk to Touya, which means none of the LoV were humanized. Fuck's sake.

After that, I get focusing on the first years and civilians wanting to help and all, but it feels like a repeat of everything seconds before Jakku, so I assume it's a way for them to pretend things are normal? But not-quite-quoting Katsuki (<- which I will point out for my sake is very much alive and well and- oh boi LFtR will kill me) and Edgeshot here because it made me smile:

"Will you...go back to the way you were?" "I plan to attain something greater than what I was originally!"

So, yeah I suppose he'll be fine eventually. (Best J. really loving Edgeshot even as a worm, honestly, goals)

Again with Izuku remembering saying "[He'll] bring it all back" and apologizing for "not keeping his promise" and others telling him to not blame himself and they can reconstruct as many times as it takes. Again, gave me a little smile, but not for long-

Finally, Ochako pretending things are fine. Hello there, Sports Festival/Provisional License!Ochako I missed you- /hj (I miss the dorms era in general, actually.)

So... *sigh* Full disclosure: I wasn't looking forward to Himichako as we were getting 5/10 pages for the "conclusions" in the previous two, I thought Ochako would be off about Himiko being depressed about the League. But since she's MIA, red flags are now red herrings, and it's better than the dead outcome. If Ochako got another person dying in her arms that'd just break her character.

A blood transfusion takes hours, she couldn't been doing that for more than 20min, if it was gonna kill anyone it'd be Ochako. Either Himiko ran away or got arrested, and Ochako feels guilty because she doesn't know if she's dead or not. Not great, but until I see a corpse she ain't dead. Besides: Touya, Shoto, Edgeshot, Katsuki, Toshinori, Ochako herself, all physically hurt unlike her, and yet they live.

And then we have Izuku showing up. I'm upset he used OFA embers for this, but eh, it's Izuku, do I expect anything else?

Rolling with the assumption Himiko died (like our POV characters), Izuku would need to face his own failure in Ochako- Failed to save two people like she failed Himiko, but it'd be so. Empty. Ochako was true to herself, while Izuku gave nothing but "I want to save that crying kid" while fighting Tenko. The most they can do is bond with "failing" and "this isn't what we fought for". This is not really a moment where he can be a shoulder to cry on, it'd come across as hypocritical /neg.

The only way it could make sense it without being shallow on Mr. Control = Repress Your Heart's part (as he didn't open up to the two people who died in "his watch") is Ochako telling how Himiko loved yet seeing him repressing this part of his is idiotic? She likes people who are true to themselves, which Izuku hasn't been for ages, leading to him realizing something. I thought it'd be through a DvsK3 but. I'll take it, two chapters left, I just want his thoughts (and for them to talk but that can happen in the last one).

They only recorded Shoto stopping Touya from being a suicidal bomb, Ochako floating a bunch of Twice!Himiko clones and Izuku entering a coccon, popping out armless, getting them back, punching Tenko to death. The "I want to save [them]" wasn't registered, it makes sense they're (well, Izuku and Ochako mostly) weirded out about this, dissatisfied like most readers are (sidenote: why when it comes to the trio either Ochako or Shoto get sidelined? So much could tie their stories together and yet-)

It's still a tough pill. I'm not a villain stan, just wondering if those fights were for nothing- the humanity of Tenko and Himiko? Can't be proved for anyone else, since they weren't recorded.

And I don't know if anyone saw the same thing, but those "city lights" look like the bubbles from Ochako's awakening, maybe we'll get a Blackwhip or Entrance Exam callback? Maybe it's what the tagline meant by "hidden feelings", since she unlocked it to reach Himiko and doesn't think anyone would understand why. I hope it's just a nice visual though.

If Himiko is truly dead though... You know, I headcannoned the characters were telling the story through confessionals/recordings to register it to the world so they'd learn from that, but I guess the interviews Aizawa was talking about seemed more likely, which. Well it's something, but I thought it'd be everyone instead of just Class A. Idk. The idea the LoV didn't change anything, or that they did change things but don't get to see it, is bitter.

So uh. Yeah, those are my thoughts. I'm not sure how to feel about it, on one hand I want Izuku to finally open up but on the other, it feels like it'll be at Himiko and Ochako's expense by involving him in something that's theirs now. And there's a chance we'll get the "nothing is fine" from Ochako- god I'm fearing the discourse next week already :DDDD

... Man, and this is a bad timing to be in the fandom, considering the LFtR episode airs this Saturday (which will be yesterday by the time this post goes up and I'll be crying about that instead-), so uh. Yeah, this fandom will be emotionally devastated for two reasons XD

Okay, so I'll try ending this on a more optimistic note: I think Himiko is alive, and Ochako just doesn't know it, which is why we're getting 0 confirmation and a breakdown. Izuku's confrontation with her can make or break this plot, but as long as 1) we acknowledge the emotional, different stakes between the Himichako fight and Tenko vs. Izuku one and 2) it doesn't end in a confession (and let's be real, it won't), then we're probably good (sadly, if you disregard the LoV status). I still think it's an ass pull for the camera battery to go out though.

But no matter how this goes: C'mon, two chapters left now, this one was wasted on the first years, smh, let this sequel hopium be a reality I wanna know who's the 425 guy, not the poor first year who's gonna replace Shindo Yo in fanfics- /hj

I will populate the aro mha tags by myself if I must. hcs. (Izuku, Katsuki, Ochako, Shouto, Mina, Shinsou)

Izuku is partnering aromantic. he likes making people happy and he doesn't really get what's so different between a strong friendship and dating so he'd prolly date any of his close friends if they wanted. he definitely wants a house and a dog with someone but in his head the idea situation is all of his friends living with him on different days. one week he's living with Kacchan then Uraraka then Todoroki then Iida etc. He isn't really ace but he doesn't care much for sex even if he does experience sexual attraction.

Katsuki is demiro and demiace and I'm correct. he's also gay but if drunk enough or challenged he will absolutely kiss a girl. he doesn't care about all that romance and sex shit until this One Person (for me it's Izuku in my head he's dekusexual dekuromantic but feel free to imagine your own preferred Bakugou ship) pulls up and makes him catch these rare feelings.

OCHAKO. One day I will write a long post about arochako but until then. Ochako has no fucking idea what romantic love is. She has no fucking idea what being aro is either so she just assumes she's like everyone else. She's so jealous of Toga because she has something she doesn't have, she's so focused on her supposed crush on Deku because her feelings for him have to be romantic, she can't be broken, she can't she can't she can't she can't. Anyway. Aromantic Ochako, she's bisexual but she has no felt romantic love ever in her life and she will never. She would have spent her forever with Toga anyway.

Cupioromantic Mina which I feel is a common hc. I don't consider it canon cuz it's clearly not intended but it's a very good interpretation and I find it sweet. She doesn't fall in love but she wants to, dreams of romance and she will eventually find someone who doesn't mind and will give her all the love she wants <3 (my favorite Mina ship is kirimina but again, feel free to put your own Mina ship in here)

Shouto is aroace he does not careeeeee he is so friendship pilled. friendshippilled friendmaxxer. He loves his friends a lot. he was scared for a long time to be broken, that what he saw of romantic love in his family disgusted him forever, but he isn't particularly repulsed by romantic love (he IS sex-repulsed tho. except when he's drunk then he suddenly becomes sex jokes georg. no one knows why)

Hitoshi is alloaro (no I'm not projecting) he'd probably date someone if they wanted as long as they weren't too overbearing with their love and didn't expect too much from him. he's a kisser he's a hugger he's a hand holder but he WILL panic if he's told "I love you".

Tenya watches as his parents discuss assets and boons. Tenya who sees them looking at Harry and Teddy (who are his and whom he loves so much) and knows that the people who should love him yet left him behind don’t see two amazing people. Tenya who stands up and seriously tells them that no, Harry and Teddy won’t be paraded about by the media. No he won’t request they ‘show off’ Teddy’s ‘early Quirk’.

Harry fighting for his soulmate and his friends, fierce and deadly because he can’t lose anyone else. Who screams at Stain that he’s ’nothing more than another villain with empty promises who wants pain’. Their first kiss (Tenya and Harry) being in a hospital as baby Teddy cries because ‘Pap’ is hurt. (His first word was dada and it was Harry. Pap, papa, his second, is for Tenya and oh lord does it make them sob).

Izuku and Ginny trading letters and stories. Ginny coming to UA to finish her schooling because her mark is black and everyone knows. Luna following, Hermione and Ron a step behind. Luna who smiles at the dual haired teen whose mark shines like hers. George coming to, tired, tired, tired. But he slowly smiles again. Molly and Arthur, Percy, Bill, Charlie (all tired and seeing that little is changing. That no one wants to do more then get rid of the laws Voldemort put up. Who see Kingsley frown in anger and can’t do anything) all packing up to move.

They burned and got nothing. Screw England.

(Percy’s mark shines around a man with scars who glares and sneers but who also left his family behind once. Percy isn’t the same as him but he understands feeling as if his family has let him down over and over again.

It’s funny in a way how many marks shine in Japan. As if Fate knew.)

Tenya who has always allowed himself to be treated like a tool, like a commodity by his parents knowing that was the best he would ever get from them, but refusing to let them do the same to Harry and Teddy. Harry who would have let them use him at least (not Teddy never Teddy) because every moment from the one he received his letter has been honing him I to a tool to be wielded. Harry looking at Tenya with wide, confused eyes when he snaps at his parents and pulls Harry and Teddy from the house because he doesn’t understand. (No one ever stood up for him like that. Not when he was The Chosen One. It takes him far longer than he would care to admit to wrap his mind around it.)

Harry who bares his teeth and fights dirty. Fights like only one person will walk away from the fight and he is fully planning on being the one to do so. Fights like the weapon he was raised to be rather than the heroes those closest to him are. Harry who refuses to lose anyone else so he meets the villains on their level and comes out with more faces and names to haunt his nightmares but alive. With his family alive. He will bear the burden. He has always done so. Ever since his first kill at eleven.

And he comes back to Tenya and Teddy who ground him. Who remind him that he so still human. That he has people to live for and not four ghosts leading him to his death. (He cries after Tenya and Teddy fall asleep in the hospital. Cries so hard he forgets how to breathe. Cries for how close he got to losing this and the man he will have to become to make sure that doesn’t happen. One more fight. One more war. And then he can truly retire. He promises himself. Promises the two sleeping figures in the bed.)

Ginny and Izuku becoming fast friends and even faster allies. Swearing to each other (and eventually to Ochako who joins their little group after Training Camp when her mark only started to shine after a girl with a cruel knife and crueler smile had her pinned to the ground promising to make her red red red) that they would not bow to fates design for them. That they would choose what made them happy rather than the agony they had been saddled with. And of course, comforting each other when the grief of what ifs and shattered bonds become too much to bear on their own.

Luna and Shoto trading theories and conspiracies in a language that almost seems to be entirely their own. Shoto who sees the scars left over from the months Luna spent as a captive in the Malfoy estate and decides he needs both halves of his power to make sure it never happens again. Luna whose eyes go startlingly sharp the first time she sees Endeavor and refuses to let him anywhere near Shoto no matter how much he roars and rages. She puts out his fire with a wave of her hand when he tries to move her and sends him flying into the far wall with barely a thought when he tries to lift a hand to her. Shoto has never been more in love.

Percy who comes early enough to lure Touya away from a path that would only lead to the ruin of both him and his family. Who offers a better way to get his revenge. One that would disgrace his father instead of turning him into a martyr. One that would spare the innocents caught in the middle. And if all else fails he promises to make it look like an accident then leak the damning evidence anyway because really how many fire quirks does Touya really think exist in Japan magic is so much cleaner. Touya who sees that darkness and anger in Percy that he kept hidden even from his own family until it grew fangs and lashed out at them rather than the ones that truly deserved it and understands why this man is his.

George who stopped looking at the name on his arm after Fred died. He has already lost half of his soul he doesn’t need a mark to tell him that there is someone better than his brother. What other relationship could compare? What fate decided romance could possibly make up for the loss of his heart? The loss of Fred is like the loss of a limb and who could possibly replace that? And then he meets Tensei who has a brother he loves just as much as George loves his who doesn’t want to replace Fred but wants to make a life with George anyway if he would allow it. Who honors George’s brothers, dead and alive, just as much as he honors Tenya. And it doesn’t fix it. Doesn’t magically make Fred’s loss okay, but slowly it starts to hurt less to smile, to laugh. He can’t look in a mirror most days, but Tensei doesn’t seem to mind tugging him down to fix his hair or straighten his tie.

Everyone coming in twos and threes until they are all out from under the Ministry’s grasp and finally able to live rather than just survive. To thrive.

1) While reading i was wondering indeed about Izukus "skillsets" ehem👀 like we know he had a previous relationship and theres some air of speculation around him and shouto cosplayers, in stark contrast to his future vision of barely getting to hold his so's hand... i did ask myself quite a bit about izukus innocence haha

2) do you have headcanons or perhaps a whole fic in mind of wedding shenanigans or the disaster of shinkami getting together?

3) Who throws Todoroki a hangover-eske bachelor party and why is it ochako?

4) was soba ever possessive of his catdaddy giving all his attention away? And how did banjo and kazooie warm up to their stepmom?

The first question made me laugh out loud. His skillsets. 😂 But okay! Let me tackle these one at a time! Sorry in advance, but I'll probably babble.

1. So. Izuku's skillsets are probably pretty average, lmao. Shouto was very smitten, though, that first time, so Ochako assumed he was some sort of sex god. But Shouto is only the second person Izuku has ever slept with, and the first guy, so it's not like he has a ton of experience. Concerning the Shouto cosplayers, he really did just take pictures with them and go on his merry way. They were probably very disappointed. ^^; He's a romantic, though, and I can't see him sleeping with someone casually. All that being said, despite his limited experience (he and his ex weren't together long), I imagine he is very veeery attentive and giving. With his first relationship, she and Izuku were each other's firsts. They met in college. She broke up with him after being pressured to by her friends, who thought she could do better than a quirkless guy who was also shorter than her. She had a hard time finding dates because of her height (fun fact: she was on the school's basketball team!). After they broke up, she quickly regretted her decision once she tried dating other guys. I imagine she had a weight in her stomach, telling her she messed up, but she tried to ignore it. I think she'll eventually meet other nice guys, but she'll never have a lover as attentive and caring as Izuku was in bed, lol. She learned to be more careful about taking unsolicited advice. For Shouto, this is perfect. His entire life, he craved love and affection, and now he has this person who absolutely showers him with both. Izuku is shy and nervous, so the fact that he gives so much of himself in bed, when he's arguably most vulnerable, is very important to Shouto. Unlike Izuku's ex, Shouto 100% understands what he has and doesn't take it for granted. I can't say I've thought of the *specifics* of their activities, but if I was going to assign them a kink, I'd probably say they both have their worship kink moments.

2. Lots of people requested a Shinkami sequel! I actually have no ideas. OTL I started writing a how-Hitoshi-and-Izuku-met prequel, actually, which probably very few people would have been interested in. I guess that's easier, because I had thought of their backstory already (I'm saying easy, but I only wrote three chapters before I stopped, so...). But as for Shinkami, I can't say I have many ideas as to how it would happen. I'm not even certain of POV. Hitoshi seems the obvious choice, to me, but Ochako's POV might be funnier. I briefly toyed with the idea of writing a wedding oneshot, for Izuku and Shouto. If I did, it would be in Bakugou's POV. So a very grumpy wedding! I did their wedding in my other fic, The Cupid Quirk, though, so for L, C, & R, I decided to just do the proposal. I didn't want to seem like I was writing the same thing, especially since the wedding in The Cupid Quirk is also told from an unconventional character's POV. The tone of L, C, & R is comedical, though, and part of me feels a Bakugou oneshot would be a little melancholy, since his feelings are so complex. At the end, Kirishima would drag him to the dance floor, though, and Bakugou would feel a little at peace with things. ShinKami would already be together at this point, but he and Kiri wouldn't, so Ochako and Kiri would still be roommates.

3. Lmao!!! Realistically, I think Yaoyorozu would stop her, since bachelor party duties would fall to her. Ochako would probably employ hijinks thoughout the night, though. Yaomomo plans for a nice restaurant, and Ochako gives the driver the address to a club. That sort of thing. And naturally something goes wrong—a wrong address maybe—and they get lost and in trouble. When Shouto finally returns home, he finds out for Izuku's bachelor party, Hitoshi took him to an arcade, then Denny's, and then finally took him home and they cooked an entire bag of tater tots, put them in a popcorn bowl, and watched a movie. Shouto is so exhausted and jealous, he buries himself in Izuku's chest and makes him hold him all night, lol.

4. I don't think Soba would be jealous! In my mind, most cats naturally like Izuku for one reason or another. He's very respectful of boundaries, due to his own bad experiences, and that applies to cats too. I think cats naturally feel very safe with him, Soba included. His chest is also a nice pillow. It probably does help though that Izuku likes to sleep on Shouto's right and Soba on the left. Izuku is also gullible, so Soba appreciates that he can sometimes trick him into giving him a second dinner after Shouto already fed him. Eventually they buy one of those "cat has been fed" boards.

As for Banjo and Kazooie, Ochako has a much harder time! It's not that they dislike her, but they miss Izuku, so there's a long sulking period. She feels like they're always disappointed to see her, because when she puts her key in the door, they think it's Izuku. Unlike Izuku, I don't think she's a natural with cats, but she won their affection eventually. It took a lot of treats, lol.

really love the post u made on toga's quirk! personally i think how it works could also be alike to toya's quirk, ie being fuelled by extreme emotions. his firepower grew significantly when he was upset and changed the colour from red to blue. and similarly i think it's fair to say that rn toga feels way stronger towards ochako and jin, someone she has a crush on and currently has to fight, and someone who was recently murdered and whom she's still mourning, than she does towards tomura and toya. of course she loves them too, but those emotions just aren't as big in comparison

I dont think Toga's love is bigger for Ochaco or Jin than her love for Tomura and Dabi. I mean, Toga doesnt even see Ochaco as person, she doesnt value her as human being, she is just a crush for her, compared to her usual crushes, Toga value well being of league of members. She always wondered how Shigaraki felt, she was worried about Dabi's wounds, she even trusted Iguichi enough to risk her own life in battle and Twice and Mr Compress were like caretaker for her. She value their well being and trust them so much. How can this kind of love be inferior to her love for Ochaco and Izuku? I dont think it can.

And i dont think Jin was Toga's favorite in league. I personally think Shigaraki was/is her favorite person. No doubt that Jin was her bestfriend, her big brother and they connected but i always read her feelings for Tomura was a lot more than that, despite the fact that she didnt really connect with him, he was always in her mind. Toga's crushes wouldnt matter as people so it doesnt makes sense Izuku and Ochaco to be matter for her than her usual crushes. And despite the fact that she had Twice as friend, she still felt like she wasnt trusted and wasnt close enough to someone uncertain. We know thats not Twice because she already knows that Twice cared her more than anything.

And honestly, i dont really want to compare different types of love. There is family love, friendship love and romantical love. All of those are important. Maybe in Dabi's case, we could say she loved Jin more than him since Dabi and Toga werent really close that much, they recently connected but i dont think that was the case in Shigaraki's case.

She was one of the first league members he gets along with. Especially before Twice died, in several arcs and official arts that Toga was shown as thinking about Shigaraki's feelings, always trying to make him happy, listening his orders, imitating his behavours and more. More details in here. It condracts with what was/is shown to us. She clearly loves him so much too. So i dont think its because 'she love Ochaco and Jin more' or 'she didnt love Tomura and Dabi enough'.

I think its simply because Toga loves Tomura and Dabi but she feels disconnected from them, she is unable to reach out to them and i hope, they can eventually connect. Because this disconnection is always one of the center themes of Toga, Shigaraki and Dabi's arc. They feel disconnected from their loved ones, their identity and rest of the world. And they need help because of it. This is why they are so broken. They need someone to reach out to them and break this disconnection and let them be finally free. I hope Uraraka and Izuku and Shouto can help them.

They don't have any kind of code or anything like that though. Their main thing is literally just "doing what they want". Toga running off to look for Ochako and Tsuyu during PLW despite sticking together being a better option is a prime example of that. Doesn't that include switching sides? Realistically, the only one who'd be actually upset if someone left them would be Spinner.

Maybe I'm reaching, but I feel like that deep down they all realise that most of them are unhappy and want to be accepted and acknowledged (Shigaraki, Toga and Spinner by the world, Touya by his father), and not being is why they are where they are? Taking Toga as an example again, if she was to switch sides, maybe it would hurt, but imo less because she left them and more because she got what she wanted and they didn't. They'd still be understanding of her choice though, maybe even happy for her.

Hmm, this is just my opinion you know, but you don't need spoken codes for it to be a betrayal.

Spinner implied exactly what you're sayings now when Toga went after Tsuyu and Ochako. She was free to go because doing what they wanted wss they're thing. You're right.

The thing you're forgetting is that he asked her to come back. And we do have a canonical scene that proves that switching sides would be seen as a betrayal by the League: Twice and Hawks.

When Hawks asked Twice switch sides because he didn't want to kill him, Twice let him know he would ever betray his friends.

I don't think the League would understand it, actually. Let me explain: for the League, the heroes are not so clearly good but self-righteous. They preach their justice and choose who to save. Of course the League is highly biased, but that's the whole joke. They can't trust the heroes, they have failed them before. But they can trust each other. It doesn't have to be spoken.

Giran let the Meta Liberation Army cut his fingers instead of selling their location. Tomura trusted them and fought for them and followed their wishes and made them promises and avenged them.

It's supposed to be them against the hero society. For one of them to work with the heroes... For whatever reason, it'd hurt. Sure, maybe they can understand why but it wouldn't justify (in their point of view) the fact Toga's leaving them.

I see the appeal in the way you interpret this situation, but I don't share your opinion. No one at the League is emotionally stable or healthy. That's the whole point. They're messed up, traumatized. They're blind with anger and pain and regret and sorrow. They bite.

I have seen some talk about Tsuyu specifically recently and I'll link you to these two posts (Post 1; Post 2) by @/mettywiththenotes (not tagging because she doesn't read until the full chapter drops) that talks about Tsuyu's inclination to follow the law, stick to the rules, etc. They're a good read and go into detail.

I'll start also by saying that I do think Tsuyu has a good chance of being in the Toga/Ochacko friendship circle (at the end lol). Toga has sought her out specifically a couple of times too:

I don't think you're wrong with the heteromorph angle, but I also haven't seen any mention of it being much of an issue with Tsuyu (BUT I also haven't read her bonus chapter, but I have seen her parents and you are correct that they are little frog people lol, so again I definitely could be missing some details about her).

Skeptic DID say that crimes were more commonly committed by people with mutant/heteromorph quirks! If you really wanted to do a deep dive into Tsuyu's circumstances, I don't think it's far off at all to say that she probably has stuck close to the law for those reasons.

As for the situation with Toga currently--I don't know HOW she'll contribute, but I think she'll eventually come around and share Ochacko's POV. It probably won't be as deeply explored as Ochacko's and Toga's relationship by any means, but I think Tsuyu will play a role, and I think her and Toga will end on friendship terms in the end.

I think this is likely because each of the LOV trio peeps has two (2) kids assigned to them at this point. Shigaraki obviously has Midoriya and Bakugo. And same as with Toga and Ochacko, Bakugo's role probably won't be as deeply explored as Midoriya's and Shigaraki's relationship, but he'll still play a role, so the set up is very similar. And then Touya, surprisingly, has two kids thrown into his battle field: Shouto and Iida. And I think that works since Iida has tried to relate to Shouto and his circumstances, the fact that Shouto related to Iida's pain during the Stain arc, and I can't find where but someone pointed out that Shouto/Iida/Touya are in the place where Stain was last seen on-screen, so Stain may show up where they're at. Kind of finishing off Iida's arc, possibly (I don't expect Iida to have much to do with Touya tbh but him being there still makes sense to me, esp. if Stain gets involved somehow).

I think Tsuyu may not be super on board at first (in fact, the main kids aren't even fully on board either, YET), but I think she'll end being on the same side as Ochacko and sharing her views, and I think she'll come to understand and care about Toga in the end.

Boku No Hero Academia Cultural Festival Wrap Up Party

The story starts off with All Might greeting Aizawa as he enters the faculty office, a day after the Cultural Festival. He says good work to Aizawa and asks how the clean-up went for the Cultural Festival. Aizawa says that everything has been put away properly and recalls how it was a bit of a risky Cultural Festival this year with the whole fiasco that almost caused them to stop the festival, referring to the incident with Gentle and La Brava.

Aizawa mentions that the students are now preparing for an after-party. He says, “too bad they can’t put this amount of effort that they did in the Cultural Festival towards their studies instead,” and All Might laughs and says, “Well, they’re still just kids after all.” He also tells All Might that a little while ago, Sero stopped by the office to ask him something. Aizawa says, “What?” and All Might explains, “Well…you see…”

Next scene is at a nearby discount variety store (**note: basically a Don Quihote department store in Japan that sells a variety of things including food at really cheap prices). The Class A band team, consisting of Jirou, Kaminari, Bakugou, Yaoyorozu, and Tokoyami, are buying snacks and drinks for the after-party. However, Jirou seems to be the only one who’s actually taking this seriously as she can’t find where everyone else ran off to. She bumps into Yaoyorozu, who excitedly says, “Jirou-san, look at these super cheap drinks! They’re only 10yen each! If we buy 20 of them that’s only 200yen!”

Jirou looks at the bottles and notices that they’re only on sale because the drinks had already expired. She tells Yaoyorozu to put away the items. She then continues to search for the other band members and finds Kaminari. He tells her that he wants to add these cool snacks into their pile of food, which come with bonus cards or toys. He says, “Look at these! Doesn’t it take you back? Man, when I was a kid I used to collect these all the time!”

Jirou looks at the items and says “put it back,” and Kaminari whines but does so anyway. Yaoyorozu keeps getting distracted by all the things in the store since she’s very rich, she seldom has the opportunity to visit these discount stores that people go to. Jirou finds Tokoyami, and Dark Shadow dumps a whole bunch of sweets into their shopping cart. Jirou says that they don’t need that many sweets and to put things back. Tokoyami then gives Jirou a snack with packaging that says “The Witch of Darkness’ Apple Pie.” Dark Shadow says, “Fumikage used to love these sweets when he was younger!” and Tokoyami gets flustered. Jirou then pats Dark Shadow on his head, and Bakugou comes up behind her.

He says, “What the hell are you guys even buying!?”

Kaminari cries out, “Whattya mean!?”

Bakugou says, “If we’re gonna eat this at the after-party, then we need several big bags of food! And why the hell am I even here shopping with you guys right now!? This is so annoying!”

As he says that, he fills the shopping cart with bags of potato chips, sweets, paper plates, and trash bags. Jirou sighs in relief and says, “Yeah! I was thinking of getting paper plates too so clean-up would be easier!” They then agree to buy some more bottles of juice and soda, and Bakugou says they only need a maximum 5 bottles to which Jirou agrees.

Bakugou then says, “Well then let’s just get the hell out of here!” and Kaminari regrettably puts all of the sweets that he added to the shopping cart back on the shelves. Jirou looks at Bakugou and says, “Bakugou, you’re…kinda like a very capable Mom.”

Bakugou gets mad and says, “WHAT!? Stop saying such stupid crap!”

While the Band members are buying stuff at the discount store, the Dance Team members and Stage members are back in the Class A dormitory preparing food and decorating the common room. The Dance Team is in charge of the food and the Stage team is in charge of decorations.

Satou is the one who is cooking most of the food, but the other Dance Team members are helping him with the food preparation. Iida is in charge of chopping the vegetables, and although he is known for his speed, he’s not used to handling knives, so he chops them at a slower pace. Hagakure is in charge of prepping the oil and oil absorbent sheets to fry the chicken and place it on the sheets. Ochako and Ashido are in charge of stirring the pot, which contains beschamel and bolognese sauces.

Ojiro checks up on the oven to make sure that it’s the right temperature. Satou tells Ochako and Ashido to add the sauce for the lasagna and to not forget to put olive oil on top. Shouji says that he’s done making the dressing for the salad, and Satou samples it. The kitchen is full of lively sounds, and everyone is excited for Ojiro’s delicious cooking.

Ochako, Ashido, and Hagakure then discuss how Christmas is around the corner too, so they should do this again and throw a Christmas party next time. While they think about having a potential Christmas party, Iida says, “Hey now! Christmas is a day that celebrates the Birth of Jesus Christ! You should be spending it with your families, so this Christmas we…”

Satou then says, “Iida, the knife, watch out the knife!” since Iida was talking while swinging the knife around in his hand. Iida apologizes. Ashido then says, “But wouldn’t a party be fun?” and Mineta appears in the kitchen holding some peaches while muttering, “Christmas…Christmas costumes…Santa Girl skirts…That’s awesome…”

However, they eventually convince Iida that Christmas is indeed a time to celebrate things together, and Iida gives in and says he will ask Aizawa for permission to throw a Christmas party much to everyone’s delight.

Mineta had been slacking off on his duties by looking at the peaches and stroking them gently, imagining something lewd, and Hagakure calls him out on his perverted thoughts and tells him to help out along with the others.

He is in charge of cutting the carrots, and while everyone is helping prepare the food, Ochako stares at the fried chicken that just came out of the fryer. She can’t help herself and pops one into her mouth only to find that it’s burning hot. Tsuyu says to be careful since they’re still hot, and Ochako apologizes as the fried chicken looked and smelled so delicious she moved without thinking.

Satou asks her how’s the flavor, and she says the fried chicken is really good while giving him a thumbs up.

Ojiro and Hagakure are washing the dishes, and Hagakure holds the plates, making them look like they’re floating in mid air. Ojiro then tells Hagakure that she should probably put some clothes on if she’s going to be in the kitchen where people use fire and knives, but she said she just wanted to see what people’s reactions were to her small pranks. Shouji then passes her an apron, and Mineta muses that it’s one of those tropes where girls wear aprons while naked, but Iida warns him to not go further.

Meanwhile, in the common room area, the Stage Team is preparing the decorations to be strung about the living room. Deku, Todoroki, and Koda are folding origami together to put on the walls as banners. Deku folds a cool All Might shaped origami, and Todoroki praises him, saying “Wow, All Might! That’s awesome!” Deku actually used to practice folding the All Might origami countless of times to perfect its shape, and he blushes a bit when he hears praise from someone.

He then sees that Todoroki folded a crane, and Todoroki says that his sister taught him how to fold the crane origami when he was a child.

Koda then says, “Oh um…I…made a camera origami!” and shows them a whimsical camera shaped origami that makes a shutter noise when pressed. Deku then notices that Koda actually had folded a ton of different origami flowers and animals, and Koda gets a bit embarrassed at the attention.

Koda says, “But the All Might origami is amazing…” and Todoroki agrees.

Todoroki then asks Deku to teach him how to fold the All Might origami. Deku is happy to oblige, and he says, “Okay first you fold a triangle and then…”

As he starts teaching Todoroki, Kirishima comes into the room and puts up his own dorm room’s fisherman banner on the wall of the common room. He says that this will make the place a bit flashier, and the others agree. Aoyama then comes in and also says that they need something sparkly and bright. Aoyama tells them that he’ll come back with something sparkly.

Kirishima then says, “Oh wait I’ll come help too!”

Todoroki then turns to Deku and says, “Midoriya, so how exactly do you fold the All Might origami?”

Deku realized that he was in the middle of teaching Todoroki before they got interrupted by the others, so he resumes his lesson by saying to first fold a triangle. Afterwards, he goes off on a tangent about how to perfect the folding process as well as making sure to accentuate the silhouette of All Might through the folds, and as he mumbles a bit, he accidentally folds the origami too quickly.

Todoroki is patient with him though and says again, “Um…can you please start from the beginning and teach me the steps a bit slower this time?”

Deku apologizes for folding the paper too fast and teaches Todoroki again, this time at a slower pace.

Kirishima then walks by and says, “Woah Todoroki, you also want to learn how to fold the All Might origami?” He leaves them to their folding and joins Aoyama and Koda in putting the finished origami and other decorations up on the walls.

After Todoroki successfully folds the All Might origami, Deku says, “You made your first All Might origami!” and Todoroki responds quietly, “I think this should be able to fit in the letter…”

Deku says, “Hmm?” and Todoroki says, “Ah, it’s nothing.”

Aoyama them brings a disco ball into the common room, and he, Kirishima, and Sero put up the other decorations.

Finally, the preparations are complete, and the Class A students gather in the common room surrounding a bunch of food that’s placed on the tables. Iida then makes a toast to a successful Cultural Festival, and everyone raises their glasses and says, “Cheers!”

Satou mentions that he also has prepared dessert, and they have two choices of either a chestnut and fig montblanc cake or an apple and peach jelly. Tsuyu chooses the jelly as jelly is apparently her favorite food. Tokoyami also chooses the jelly dessert while Ashido takes the montblanc.

Iida mentions that he and Mineta were in charge of chopping the cabbages and carrots for the cole slaw. Todoroki and Deku praise him and say that the coleslaw is delicious.

Bakugou watches irritably and decides to leave the party, but Kaminari says, “Hey hey hey, where do you think you’re going, Kacchan-kun!?” Bakugou says that seeing everyone making small talk is pissing him off, but Kaminari rebutts by saying, “But you looked excited when you were buying food!”

Kirishima then comes over and says, “Bakugou! I brought you some fried chicken! Let’s eat a ton!” and puts a bunch of fried chicken in front of Bakugou, to which he says he doesn’t want it. Kirishima doesn’t back down though and says, “Oh I got it! So you want lasagna instead!” and brings a slice of lasagna for him.

Satou noticed Kirishima carrying the food over and says, “Hey, you should put a bunch of tabasco on it before eating too!” and pours a bunch of tabasco onto the lasagna and force feeds Bakugou with it. Bakugou yells, “What the hell are you doing!?” but eventually pipes down after taking the lasagna from Kirishima as it seems like he does enjoy the food after all. Kirishima watches him and says, “See, I told you it’s good! I’ll bring you seconds!” and goes to bring Bakugou more food.

Sero then turns everyone’s attention towards the TV in the common room. He says, “Well then now that Bakugou’s calmed down, let’s watch the recap of our Cultural Festival performance!” He turns on the TV and everyone gathers around to watch the recorded performance.

Some of the members mention that Deku was late to the performance, and they thought that he might not even be able to perform. Deku apologizes for being late, but as the performance starts, they can hear the audience’s chatter as someone yells “YAOYOROZU!!!” Ashido and Kaminari tease her about having fans, and she gets flustered. Satou then whispers, “It’s starting…it’s starting…!” and the screen fills with the sound of Bakugou’s drums as well as a huge explosion.

The girls all fawn over how cool Jirou looks while singing, and this causes her to blush and say, “Please stop…” Koda also adds, “You were really cool, Jirou-san,” which makes her blush deepen.

Ashido exclaims, “Look look, the dance is all in line too!” and the class watches as Ojiro uses his tail to swing around. Everyone on the dance team mentions how it was thanks to Ashido being their teacher that they were able to have fun while dancing and making this possible. Next is Deku and Aoyama’s synchronized dance, and Shouji murmurs to Tsuyu, “Wow, they are so in sync!” to which she replies, “Midoriya-chan and Aoyama-chan practiced real hard, right?”

The students continue to watch as Aoyama becomes a disco ball and the stage team starts their part of the performance with Kirishima shaving the ice that Todoroki created while Sero uses his tape, and Kirishima says, “You guys’ timing was perfect, Seroroki!”

Sero mentions that they should try this move out while doing actual hero work next time, and Todoroki agrees. As Kaminari watches himself play the guitar, he says, “Woah there…I feel like I’m gonna be super popular after this with those slick guitar moves…!” and Mineta says, “But wait did you guys see my harem dance? That was the best…!”

Jirou says, “Tokoyami, you’ve gotten super good at guitar!” and Tokoyami mentions that it’s all thanks to her.

Kirishima and Bakugou are watching the performance from a spot a little away from the rest of the class, and Kirishima smiles at Bakugou, saying, “Man, you’re great at drumming after all!” and Bakugou replies casually, “it’s just average.”

Jirou overhears their conversation and says, “No way! Your drumming was phenomenal! Your rhythm is what allowed us all to stay in sync! Thank you for taking on this role!” and Bakugou scoffs and says, “Well, you’re the one who carried the whole performance though!”

Everyone is really impressed by Jirou’s bass skills as well as her singing, and they vote for her as the Class A Cultural Festival MVP. Everyone, aside from Bakugou, smiles at her, and she blushes, saying, “What…why…”

Yaoyorozu remarks, “Jirou-san, you were shining the brightest!” and Aoyama says, “Even more than me!?☆” But he agrees that Jirou indeed deserves the MVP title.

The class asks Jirou to make a small speech. She thanks everyone for making this performance a reality, and she’s really happy that they were able to perform together.

After everyone is done eating, Sero and Kaminari tells the class that they have some cool party games planned for everyone. Most of the class are excited for what they have in store, but Bakugou feels like it’s a waste of time and gets up to leave. Kirishima tries to stop him, but Sero taunts, “Oh, you’re leaving because you don’t think you can win, right? Well that’s fine, you can go back. Even though we have a quiz specifically tailored for you, but I guess you’d fail anyway.”

This gets Bakugou angry, and he agrees to participate in Sero’s dumb quiz challenge.

The games that Sero and Kaminari have planned are for one member of each Cultural Festival team to undergo a “Can you guess the __” type of challenge. Bakugou is first up, representing the Band Team. His challenge is to differentiate between three different types of pepper spice seasoning purely by taste (called 一味 ichimi).

Bakugou sits down in front of the table that has the seasonings, and Sero blindfolds him by putting on an eye mask that has a funny grinning face on it. Deku and the others snicker at how ridiculous Bakugou looks with that eye mask on, and Bakugou gets mad, yelling, “Damnit Deku, what the hell is so funny!?” Deku replies, “Well, anyone would laugh when they see…hahah!”

Bakugou roars, “You piece of shit!” but Todoroki says calmly, “Hey Bakugou, maybe you should consider wearing a hero suit that matches that mask.” Bakugou is furious and yells, “Shut the hell up, you half and half bastard!”

The challenge then begins, and Kaminari spoon feeds Bakugou the three different spices. He surprises everyone by correctly guessing each type of spice and goes even as far to explain which company manufactures them. Kaminari and Sero are speechless, but Deku says, “I thought that Kacchan would know the difference. He’s always had a very particular sense of taste. He could even tell when sweets expired and would never eat the expired food.”

Bakugou gets mad and says, “Don’t put on that stupid face as if you know it all!” and throws the eye mask at Deku.

The next challenge is Todoroki’s turn, representing the Stage Team. His task is to figure out among three cups of brown liquid which one is soba noodle soup. The cups contain either coffee, soba noodle soup, or throat medicine, and Todoroki cannot smell or taste them before picking his answer.

Iida mentions that Todoroki often eats soba during lunch, so there’s no way he would guess incorrectly for a food that he loves. Deku says, “Good luck, Todoroki!” as everyone watches him study the cups closely. The catch is that he also has to drink from whichever cup he chooses. Todoroki decides on a cup and drinks from it, only to spit it out and say, “That…wasn’t soba noodle soup…”

Kaminari chimes in by explaining that the cup he chose was actually throat medicine. Todoroki apologizes for spitting out the throat medicine, which splurted all over Iida and Deku. They tell him not to worry as more importantly, they need to get tissues to clean up the mess. Todoroki mutters, “I don’t think I want to eat soba anymore after this…”

The next challenge is for Tsuyu, where she has to differentiate from three different types of fluffy things: Koda’s bunny, Ojiro’s tail, and Deku’s hair by touch only. As she puts on the eye mask, Koda, Ojirou, and Deku stand in front of her. When Koda offers the bunny, Tsuyu says, “it’s fluffy.” When Ojiro offers his tail, she also says, “it’s fluffy.” When Deku offers his hair, Tsuyu says, “it’s…fuzzy?” She then correctly guesses which fluffiness was which.

Kaminari and Sero then round up the results of the various challenges, and the winner ends up being Bakugou!

Bakugou says, “Obviously I would win!” but the party’s not over yet! Next up is the Personality Quiz! Sero explains that since the class is with each other practically 24/7, they should all have picked up on small details of each other. This quiz will test how well they actually know each other after all.

The first question they ask is, “What did Iida answer on his Hero Test the other day to name the three most beautiful Heroes of the past?”

The class guesses incorrectly, and the answer was that he wrote on his test “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and everyone has their own different types of beauty.”

Baffled, Iida asks Sero and Kaminari how they even knew what he wrote on a test paper, and they explained that their accomplice, Hagakure, has been doing a bit of spying on everyone in order for them to make this quiz a reality. Hagakure apologizes for doing so, but she says that she saw it as an opportunity to also test out her hero skills too.

The next question is “What has Yaoyorozu been obsessed about lately?” Jirou answers first, saying “Oh, is it furikake (rice seasoning)?” The answer turns out to be correct, and recently, Yaoyorozu has taken a strong liking to furikake to season her rice, which makes her blush a bit.

Sero then says, “All right Kaminari, what’s the next question?”

Kaminari answers, “Okay! For the next question, what made Ojirou disappointed recently!?”

Satou guesses, “Cementoss said his effort was average?”

Shouji says, “Tetsutetsu told him his strength was average?”

Aoyama ponders, “Recovery Girl said his health was average?☆”

The correct answer is actually Ojiro changed the conditioner for his tail recently, but no one noticed. However, Hagakure sidles up to him and says, “I actually saw you looking around near the bathroom area to see if anyone noticed, haha!” and Ojiro gets red, saying, “Well if you were watching me, why didn’t you say anything…!?”

The next question was, “What was hidden in Kirishima’s elementary school yearbook!?” Kirishima panics and says, “Huh!? How did you…!” but Sero grins and says, “That’s only for me to know. But I totally could not believe what was hidden there!”

Ashido guesses, “Maybe a love letter!?”

Mineta exclaims, “A porn magazine!!”

Todoroki says, “Failed test scores?”

All three of them were incorrect. The correct answer is “a photo of him dressed up as a girl!”

Bakugou says to him, “You’re actually into that kinda stuff?”

Kirishima gets flustered and says, “Wait, you’ve got it all wrong! It was during my elementary school’s festival stage play of Cinderella where I played the Stepmother! When I left the picture at home, my mommy kept showing it to other people, so I tried to hide it!!”

Kaminari then continues with the next question, saying “Okay, so next question. Before the Cultural Festival performance, what did Uraraka mess up on!?”

Deku says, “She accidentally made herself float!?”

Iida offers, “She was too nervous she threw up!?”

Tokoyami asks, “She ate too much mochi and threw up!?”

Kaminari says they all guessed wrong and the correct answer is “she was looking for Midoriya but tripped and accidentally went into a room where Class B’s Monoma was in the middle of changing clothes!”

Ochako gets red in the face and says, “I didn’t do it on purpose!!”

Mineta comments something lewd, but Tsuyu shuts him down.

The next question is “What was the reason why Jirou and Hagakure were arguing!?”

Koda says, “Because Hagakure-san was messing with Jirou-san’s earphone jack…?”

Yaoyorozu offers, “Jirou-san accidentally stepped on Hagakure-san’s naked body?”

Mineta exclaims, “Fighting over a guy!”

The correct answer is because Hagakure tried scaring Jirou after they watched a horror film together. Ashido asked whether they actually argued, and Jirou said she got mad because when she takes a shower alone, she’s usually scared of the bathroom area anyway. So when Hagakure messed with her by causing the lights to flicker on and off and the faucet to suddenly turn on by itself, she absoutely freaked out and felt like she almost had a heart attack. Naturally, she was livid, and Hagakure says, “Sorry Jirou, your reactions were just too good!”

The next question is about Deku, and Kaminari asks, “Recently, Deku has been leaving the dorm early to meet with someone. Who is that secret someone!?” (**Note: The word they use is ‘aibiki,” which means secret date/meeting).

Deku is surprised and says, “Wait, how do you know that…?”

Mineta and Satou ask if he was secretly meeting up with a girl, and Iida says, “Midoriya-kun! Are you actually in a relationship with a girl!? You should prioritize studies first!”

Ochako is confused as she says to herself, “Aibiki? Like the type of meat?” (**Note: Ochako isn’t familiar with the word, so she thinks it’s referring to ‘aibikiniku,’ which is a combination of different types of ground meat)

Deku gets nervous and says, “No, it’s not like that…” He thinks of ways to deflect the situation without making it known that he’s actually meeting up with All Might in the morning to train his quirk, but the other classmates continue to guess.

Kirishima says, “He’s meeting with someone from the General Class!?”

Ashido says, “No way…maybe he’s meeting with someone older, like Midnight…!?”

Mineta suggests, “Maybe he’s meeting with a living thing other than a girl…!!”

All three of their guesses were incorrect, and the correct answer was that he was meeting with the Support Department’s Hatsume Mei!

Deku is relieved to know that the others have not found out about his secret rendezvous with All Might early in the morning to do training.

Bakugou snorts and says, “There’s no way that dumb nerd would ever be popular!” but Sero says, “No, Midoriya is quite popular among the ladies. Like during the Provisional License Exam when that naked upper classman got all over him.”

Deku rebutts by saying, “But that was because she was attacking me!?”

Iida then recalls how Hatsume helped Deku out when they went to the department together earlier, and after an explosion, she was also all over him. Mineta then gets lewd thoughts again, but the conversation switches to Mineta using his mogimogi hair balls and puts it on Deku’s head. Iida notes that it looks like Deku’s wearing those infamous mouse ears from “Zoo Dreamland” (aka Disneyland). Ashido mentions that she used to go to Disneyla—…Zoo Dreamland all the time when she was younger. The class chatter switches to discussing their favorite rides, attractions, and food.

The class then asks Mineta to put mogimogi balls on their heads too so they can look like they’re wearing those infamous mouse ears as well. Mineta enjoys the attention and says, “All right I guess…”

Before the party wraps up, Sero mentions that there’s one more video that they want to show to everyone. As they gather around the TV to watch, they see Aizawa on screen with a cat. As the video starts, Aizawa suddenly appears in the common room and reprimands them, asking what are they doing up so late? The video pauses on the screen.

Aizawa stops the party and tells everyone to clean up and go to their rooms. Since the party’s over, he tells Sero, Kaminari, and Hagakure to stay behind. The three students prepare themselves for a scolding, but instead, Aizawa asks them where they got this footage.

It turns out that Present Mic gave it to them after he recorded it while hiding in sight. The footage was of Aizawa trying to befriend a cat, but the cat ignores him and goes to All Might instead. Sero actually came to the faculty department before the after-party to ask for permission to show the footage, and since Aizawa wasn’t there at the time, All Might said it was okay.

However, Aizawa says he will be collecting the footage and tells the three to never discuss the contents of the video to anyone. They agree, and he sends them off on their way.

It’s been a long day, and Aizawa sighs and wonders just when he got caught up in all of this student stuff. However, although adolescence is short, that never stops them from chasing their dreams forever. Happily, while young, without sadness, sweetly, harshly…youth is a precious thing.

The light novel ends with Aizawa saying, “Good luck, everyone” with the words “the festival had ended, but even so, their bright days continue onward.”

Toga Thoughts: Not Just A Yandere (And Not Really One Anyways)

So I’m seeing a lot of confusion over how Toga’s acting in the current arc. Toga’s got A Lot going on, all intertwined, and consequently so do these thoughts. I’m thinking about her “confession” to Izuku, and touching on claims it’s “out-of-character” (false). Also going to touch on the idea that “Yandere Toga” is back. There’s a look at Toga’s recurring symbolic shorthand, bared body=bared mind, in here. Also her scenes are repeated bids to be seen as a person, though this doesn’t fully come into play until the end. First off, I’m not sold on the confession being a backslide. I think the regression is her stonewalling where she was previously reaching out, or close to reaching out. She wanted to, tried to reach out in her own way, and now she’s denying and repressing it. The return of her repressing, putting on a mask, that’s the character regression here. The confession’s actually just an integral part of Toga being Toga, or perhaps even a culmination of Toga being Toga. I’ll start with Toga and not being a Yandere, because it’s shorter and more to-the-point. Toga’s not really a Yandere. Yes, she’s sadistic, her “love” is intertwined with causing violence, she shows some stalking behavior, and very little grasp of boundaries. But a key, critical defining feature of a Yandere is possessiveness and/or jealousy - and Toga doesn’t have that. She doesn’t seem to care that Ochako has a crush on Izuku, in fact she practically encourages Ochako to think about what she’s missing by not pursuing Izuku. A Yandere would be upset by a romantic rival. Usually to a violent, or at least disturbing and disturbed, degree. (It’s Ochako whose flaws include being jealous or possessive, relationship-wise.) As for how the confession is not just the re-emergence of some shallow “Yandere Toga” - it’s not regression, I’ve covered how she’s not a Yandere, and it was never shallow. There’s always been a deeper layer to her crush or attraction to Izuku, it’s not some childish “phase” she needs to grow out of, or something like that. It’s an integral part of her character and dynamics with other characters. And I feel the need to stress this: it’s always been both, an attraction and a deeper interest, neither of which is more or less genuine than the other. At first she was, if not quite comparing Izuku to Stain, then thinking of them along similar lines. Not just her love and the blood - but Izuku is someone Stain praised as truly Heroic. There’s a connection, beyond a simple crush, there for Toga to follow, something related to ideals, ideas, and society and what Heroes should be, what “heroic” should mean. But at some point she stops conflating Izuku and Stain. It’s hard to tell if it’s the Training Camp or whether or not she still conflates Izuku and Stain somewhat at that point. Definitely by the time the License Exam rolls around, Toga’s “separated” Izuku from Stain. Both her attraction and her questions to Izuku have very little to do with Stain, despite said questions being about Heroes, ideas and ideals, and so on. Because she’s into Izuku and it’s Izuku she’s asking, about his personal ideals, not Stain, in that scene. Same goes for later scenes where she questions his ideals, or says she wants to. At the License Exam, she asks Izuku some pointed questions, with a call-back to Jin’s “only the virtuous people are saved”. She asks where Izuku draws the line, “would you really save everyone?”. She also takes her opportunity to get all over Izuku, in very sexually-charged poses, and eventually melts her clothes off in front of him. Yes, she’s “wearing” Camie, but Toga being obvious, to the audience if not to Izuku, that she’s into Izuku is still very much there. (And maybe there’s something to this being the first time she does a Quirk-assisted strip, and Toga uses the body of a girl who’s considered very attractive by her peers.) Also, she was naked (albeit wearing someone else) while expressing herself genuinely, this is where Toga’s shorthand starts showing up. In the story arcs that follow, there’s the Overhaul’s Basement scene, where her Quirk is deactivated by Aizawa. This one’s more about her being into Izuku, instead of his ideals. Izuku recognizes her. He remembers her and she’s absolutely gleeful over it, holding nothing back. Part of her glee is sheer desire, of course, but also because to her, Izuku remembering her is acknowledgment of her personally. Also she’s naked again, and this time there’s no someone else she’s wearing, she’s herself physically too. Genuine emotions going hand-in-hand with nudity again. It’s easier to miss the pattern in the Jakku/War Arc, but it’s there. It’s just that the nudity is more adjacent than during this time. After Jin is killed, she says she wants to ask Izuku and Ochako if Jin was a person, which shifts the context back to Toga’s interest in Izuku’s ideals instead of her personal desires. After that scene she’s melting out of her Quirk during the rampage against the Heroes. In the rubble of Jakku she does this to Ochako, melting out of her disguise before she grapples Ochako and kinda asks her if villains are people. Not quite in those words, at least in the translation I read, and the not quite asking what she meant to is a sign for the League’s continued spiral following that arc. This is also a nudity=genuine moment for Toga’s dynamic with Ochako. If Overhaul’s basement was purely about her sexual and romantic interest in Izuku, and the War Arc had her mentioning Izuku in terms of her intellectual interest in him, then the Confession Scene is like the License Exam. It’s about both aspects of Toga’s interest in Izuku again. First the obvious aspect, the desire element of it, and Part One of why I called this a culmination. So to the audience, it’s been pretty clear that Toga’s into Izuku, in her “zero grasp of boundaries” way. But this? This is a confession that’s unambiguously a confession, not just from the point of view of the audience, but from the point of view of the characters. Now, I did say that it's about Toga’s interest in Izuku’s ideals too, and it is. Specifically it’s tied to her wanting to ask Izuku if Jin was a person, if villains are people. This is where her interactions being bids to be seen as a person comes into play. If Izuku acknowledges her confession and her feelings, then he has to accept her as being a person who can feel things and not just a monster, the way society has made clear it sees her. In short, the Confession Scene is a culmination because it pulls together Toga’s sexual/romantic interest in Izuku, her intellectual interest in Izuku, and also her bids to be seen as a person, who feels. (Ochako being present here does matter too, as she’s the other 1/3 of this whole thing, but since the confession is to Izuku, that’s the dynamic I focused on.) Notably absent from this scene is Toga’s other pattern, bared body=bared mind, nudity equals genuineness. Which is because this isn’t the final confrontation and/or conversation with Izuku and Ochako. This is the rejection, the getting worse before it gets better. That pattern is tied to Toga being acknowledged by Izuku and Ochako, in a sense: the License Exam gets Izuku thinking, Overhaul’s basement gets a red-faced “I remember you” out of Izuku, Jakku had Ochako notice Toga crying despite being a rejection on the surface. This is a refusal by both of her Hero interests, so a pattern associated with being genuine, and that being acknowledged, doesn’t (and probably shouldn’t, thematically) appear here. Whew, that was a lot, but I hope it sheds light on some things about Toga, because she’s fascinating.

BnHA Ch.319 (“The one with the Class 1-A reunion") - Parallels and comparisons

Fun fact: This chapter is called “Friend” because Ch.258 is already called “Friends.” That chapter is mostly about Hawks and Twice, and features Twice’s famous line, “Anyone who helps his friends can’t be all bad.”

SO MANY THINGS I LOVED ABOUT THIS CHAPTER!!!! At the outset, this chapter helps solidify the timeline and clarify that the whole arc takes only 1-2 weeks post-war. The pacing may have been weird to us as readers, but in-universe everything happened VERY fast.

I’m really enjoying Iida being the instigator here, prodding Bakugo, Todoroki, and Tokoyami. Iida’s been sidelined for a while and it’s nice to remember he can be a hothead. It’s weird though that Bakugo has Best Jeanist’s number and not All Might’s?? Maybe Bakugo’s just too angry at All Might to call him? You'd think that if Bakugo was trustworthy with OFA that he'd get access to the secure line.

Yep, Iida won’t back down from Endeavor or Deku either. Deku tries to throw down and Iida’s just, “Same shit, different day, huh?” even though Deku looks absolutely monstrous. I LOVE Ochako stepping up and escalating through the UA bureaucracy. Also, it’s cool to see her show some aggression and fighting spirit. Even Shoto is taken aback when she stands up and smacks the sofa.

Now for the big guns… Bakugo is 100% right that he knows Deku and the Deku/All Might relationship better than anyone. And bless Bakugo’s iron will for speaking truth to power before his school’s principal and the #1 hero who is also his former boss/mentor, his friend’s father, and the guy who All Might compares him to. But, as always in MHA, we see a hero’s knowledge is incomplete because heroes don’t freaking talk to each other about stuff that matters.

Crucially, Bakugo doesn’t know about Nighteye’s impact on Deku and All Might. He doesn’t know that All Might wanted Deku to stay at UA or that All Might was trying to get Deku to take care of himself, despite assassins and explosions targeting them both. Bakugo also doesn’t know about the vestige battle with AFO/Shigaraki or the post-war vestige conversations. Bakugo doesn’t know that Deku wants to save Shigaraki, that Deku is likely the last OFA holder due to his quirklessness, or that Second is telling Deku that inaction is not an option. Perhaps, if Endeavor couldn’t take a good look at himself and understand the burden of #1 until “All Might” became a walking skeleton, Bakugo won’t be able to fully understand OFA and Deku’s journey until he sees Deku become a shadow of what he was (maybe acting unheroically?) That said, Bakugo is drawn in 319 with his posture like All Might in 309.

Speaking of not knowing things, Endeavor doesn’t tell the class that Deku ditched All Might. It’s not clear why he starts to say “But…” and then stops, because during this arc he’s very communicative with Hawks, Jeanist, and the Lurkers. Did he realize, like All Might did in Ch.309, that he can’t physically stop Deku? Does he feel the same power gulf with Deku that he felt with All Might, now that he and Hawks are too slow for Deku??? Or is he an elitist prick who doesn’t respect the kids as heroes in their own right (including his own SON!!!). Whatever the reason, Endeavor doesn’t use his words or help connect the class with Deku, Jeanist, Hawks, or All Might. No, he tosses his phone so the class can track Deku on their own. So much for “maturing” and passing the torch with grace.

I feel REALLY bad for Shoto here. Both his parents betrayed him and hurt him, and now at his family’s lowest point, Shoto finds his best friend is not just gone, but that the trust didn’t go both ways. To make matters worse, his dad is breaking his promise to Shoto (the one that's supposed to be a step towards atonement) for the purpose of enabling Deku’s betrayal, with the implication that Shoto isn’t strong enough to handle what’s “out there.” Endeavor will strike his son, but won't let him fight using his own well-honed powers??? Ugh. Shoto is saying “us” in the left hand panel below, but it’s clear that Deku’s actions and Endeavor’s focus on Deku weighs heavily on Shoto. I’m so glad that in this chapter we see Bakugo, Iida, Ochako, and Momo with him. Shoto needs a break and some time with friends as much as Deku.

I love Nezu cutting off Endeavor multiple times, followed by his own endorsement of the kids’ mission. It’s sweet that Nezu wants to protect BOTH All Might and Deku — we know Nezu loves the school but I don’t think we’ve seen him so paternal before. (I’m glad someone is looking out for All Might too, since the pro heroes aren’t.) I also like Nezu echoing the theme of reassurance. Physical safety, in a situation like this, is only one part of “saving.” That said, I’m still not convinced the UA barrier will actually keep out the villains who broke into Tartarus. (Of course, it’s possible Nezu is the traitor and he’s manipulating the kids into bringing Deku & All Might to UA, but I’m gonna enjoy this moment for now….)

MASK SYMBOLISM ALERT. Deku saying, “I’m fine, don’t worry,” while putting his mask on, right after Bakugo completed the rescue maskless. Ochako saying she’s worried with her rose-colored mask/shield off, just like her big war moment (but this time, the light is in her eyes).

Love these kids supporting each other (or, in the case of Bakugo, shoving Shoto before Shoto fights Endeavor, and taking over the direct confrontation of Endeavor). Also, despite Endeavor’s worries, it’s his son and Momo that captured the villain after Bakugo (his intern) immobilized the villain. Endeavor should know that this class can definitely handle Tartarus escapees.

Now, a few loose AFOs ends:

Bakugo’s tie. While this is very un-like him, I agree with others who have said it represents him trying to look and act like part of the team, rather than the punk on the fringes. It also ties him (haha!) to Best Jeanist, who was always trying to fix Bakugo’s image. I don’t think the tie is a sign of any AFO manipulation…

But then again, Bakugo’s clapping and taunting Deku about smiling in Kamino IS reminiscent of AFO’s actions in Kamino. AFO and Bakugo certainly do tend to circle near each other in the narrative.

Also, Iida says 1A won't be able to smile while their friend walks a “thorny path,” but that was the language AFO used in the mansion message. What happens when Deku hears his friends use the same words as AFO?

At a meta level, why are we seeing signs of AFO when we're purely on the hero side of things? I can think of three possibilities: First, it's foreshadowing, plain and simple. We're seeing bits of AFO "invade" the class to set up for his eventual attack. Second, it's some kind of mind control or illusion so Deku isn't seeing what's really there. Third is that it's Horikoshi's way of reminding us, as readers, that the heroes and villains are two sides of the same coin. They think the same way, they speak the same way, and, to AFO's point, are therefore fairly predictable despite having free will.

When Ochaco originally came to you with the idea of being a farmhand, you thought she was crazy. You’ve finally graduated from high school, got the title of professional hero, and this is the first thing she wanted to do? However, as she further explained, it was a family friend who needed help during the summer months, and what were heroes for? Granted, you wanted to run around the cement jungle and provide help that way, but this “almost vacation” didn’t sound too bad – plus, with the puppy eyes Ochaco flashed at you, it was impossible to say no.

And so, here you are, sitting in the passenger side of a coupe with Ochaco behind the wheel. You have to admit; the surrounding atmosphere is beautiful, and you’d be lying if you said you didn’t want to run barefoot through the grass. Clouds of dust rise as the car eventually comes to a stop outside of a weathered farmhouse. Ochako flashes you a smile, her large eyes twinkling.

“Look at how huge this place is! I know Uncle Iroh said he had a couple people helping out, but this is incredible! We’ll each have our own room!”

You can’t help but smile at her enthusiasm. Ochaco’s always been easy to rile up, and the fact that she’s genuinely excited to spend quality “bonding time” with you is heartwarming. As the two of you step out of the car, the front door to the farmhouse opens, revealing an elderly man with a long beard and a kind expression. As you walk up towards the wraparound porch, you glance to the other trucks sitting out in front of the farmhouse. Iroh said two others were already here, so you figured the trucks must be theirs…

“Zuko!” Iroh booms. “Our guests are here!”

After a moment or so, a boy around your age staggers from the kitchen, a tray in his hands. From the looks of it, a teapot and some cups line its surface.

“Tea is our specialty, here,” Iroh says, nudging you with your shoulder. “Get something to drink and then we’ll show you your rooms.”

Later on that evening, you’re gazing out your window, watching the sun fall. Hues of orange, peach, and lilac paint the sky, bidding the world goodbye for the night. It’s definitely different to experience it here than back home, back where silhouettes were outlined by the golden glow. A steady breeze carries on, carrying the scent of wildflowers and musk; your curtains flap from the sheer force of it, but you pay it no mind. It’s like Ochaco brought you to a slice of paradise, even if it’s with the intention of putting in labor.

In the distance, you hear calls and the distinguished moos of cows. Shifting your gaze, you catch a herd of cows being moved towards a barn; a man riding a brown horse wrangles them in, a border collie by his side. The way he pulls it off is smooth, and it’s clear that he’s used to pulling such a feat. However, what really catches your attention is the pair of magnificent scarlet wings protruding from his back. Now, you’re used to seeing some rather flashy quirks, but this guy’s is just… Wow.

“Hey, Uncle Iroh wanted me to come get you,” Ochaco’s voice says suddenly. Walking over to where you stand, Ochaco peers out the window, following your line of sight. “Oh, him? That’s Keigo. Uncle Iroh says he’s only been here for the past year or so, but he’s really good at what he does! I heard all the animals like him a lot – maybe it’s because of the wings?”

“Don’t you think it’s… odd that’s only a farmhand? With a quirk like that, you’d think he’d be doing something else.”

Ochaco shrugs. “I dunno. Maybe you should ask him sometime? Oh, but I’m really hungry! Can we go eat, now?”

“Yeah, sorry, I just got distracted…”

And so, you soon find yourself sitting at a sturdy wooden table, a bowl of oyakodon sitting before you. It smells utterly delicious - and paired with the tea Iroh brewed, you know you’re in for a treat. Just then, you hear a door opening and closing; there’s a chatter of some sorts, but then there he is, right there in the flesh.

he hated clubs, they were too noisy, dirty, and hot--and not in the good way

anyways, when you get there, you’re just sipping on a couple margaritas to get you in the mood

all your friends from class 1-A were just talking and having fun until y’all separated into groups

some went to get some food, others were just by the bar, and your group went to go dance 

bakugo kind of just chilled in a spot where he could keep an eye out for you before he saw some shady-looking people trying to dance with you 

the reason why he charges into the crowd isn't bc he’s jealous or anything!! he just wants to make sure everything’s straight 

bakugo just cuts them off in the middle of their talking and gives them one look that sends them scurrying off 

while he’s yelling at you about stranger danger, you’re giving him bedroom eyes bc he was totally jealous and that just did something to you 

bakugo is too into basically arguing with himself to notice how a slow grinding song comes on, and your ass is already on him
