I imagine it takes Dust awhile to fully settle in. He’s made a deal with Nightmare out of pure desperation and frustration in his darkest moment. And he only realizes how deadly it is after he’s burned from the handshake. Horror is standoffish at best and snappy at worst and Killer gets under his skin in a way only the human could. But after a while he settles. He falls into a routine, finds a strange unspoken common ground with Horror, and grows used to Killers hollow smiles. And when he’s sitting across from Horror on the couch, eyeing the shadows to see if they flicker. He hears it.

At dinner. “Three left”. carefully sewing up Killers tattered clothing. “Three left”. Staring at Nightmares snarl. “Three left”.
