The endangered red-ruffed lemur is endemic to Madagascar, where they are threatened by habitat loss. They live high in the canopy of the island’s rainforests, and eat mostly fruit. It's funny how, as soon as I saw Randy's new design, I just knew that you had some sort of influence in it XD

Idk what, but something about it just had "you" written all over it

I shared a few of these back and fourth with Loups while she was hammering out ideas! Top left you can see the concept she had at the time! She toyed around with some lovely colour pallets before settling on this beautiful final one!!

This was actually version 2 of Randy’s ghost form! She had a much earlier one that was closer to his “Mo” design, but went with this absolute banger instead >;3

The stuff she liked ended up being his under eye markings and full body streak! Darkening his tail tip a bit, as well as keeping the more gradient esc whipsy whites on his hair, tail base, tail tip, and footys!

The final one she gave the gradients a lot more purpose with the streaks to emphasize his new main! And the final thingy he got was his glorious lil turtle neck >;3

So in the end, i just helped spruce up some patterns and give her stuff to work with, she did AMAZING putting it all together into his floofy masterpiece!! >w<

The Troop Transport Warthog hit a particularly rough patch and you held on for all you were worth to keep from being ejected.

"Sarge," Private Taylor yelled. "Where are we?"

"That's need to know and none of you need to know, marine," Sarge shouted back from the passenger seat. "Just keep your head down, do your job, and you'll be home 15 minutes before your mama has breakfast on the table."

You couldn't particularly tell if it were dusk, dawn or high noon, the air was so heavy with the greasy remains of mortar rounds. In the distance, a nondescript cityscape occasionally flared with either continuing pockets of active combat or just the remnants of the devastation that had passed through.

Wherever you were, it felt like you were barreling at top speed through a graveyard of vehicles: Warthogs, Mongeese and even the odd Scorpion, some overturned, blackened and smoldering, others weirdly intact as if their drivers had merely stepped away for a moment.

This was a salvage and recovery mission, tasking your unit with marking vehicles as repairable, recyclable or a total loss to be abandoned.

The next hour or so, that had been your focus, moving from Warthogs and the occasional Mongoose, conducting a quick evaluation, then using your spray gun to mark a green circle on the hood to send back to Reach for repair, a white slash to send it to be stripped for usable parts or a red X to abandon, not worth salvaging.

You marked a Mongoose with a red X, though the gun sputtered and you had to give it a few whacks before it sprayed properly, then you moved on.

Next up was a Warthog that seemed in decent condition from the outside, short of the rear antenna twisted until it resembled a curly tail. But the electronics were fried and the entire undercarriage looked like it had plowed over a series of flaming spikes, all major parts gouged out and burned. There might have been a few nuts and bolts reclaimable but since you'd just recently been writing up requisition for needed parts, you judged that it was more effort than it was worth.

You made the call to abandon it but as you tried to spray the red X across the hood, nothing emerged, even after shaking the sprayer and giving it a few more hits with the heel of your palm. With a slightly frustrated noise -- who was checking to make sure that the sprayers were in working order before they were sent out? -- you headed to get a replacement. Along the way, you caught a private going in the opposite direction.

"Hey, see that 'hog there? Would you red X it for me? Thanks."

"Um, sure," the blond man said and headed where you gestured.

You were still looking for somebody who had a spare sprayer when Sarge drove up in the Troop Transport again.

"Wrap it up, it's about to get hot," he shouted.

You quickly joined the rush back to board the Pelican and scrambled into a seat just as it lifted off. A split-second after you'd clicked the restraint down, the Pelican rolled to one side, shuddering from an impact.

Alarms began blaring, mixed in with the pilot calling out coordinates, and you automatically tried to look forward, as if you'd somehow be able to spot what was shooting at you. All you could really see was the anxious faces of the other marines around you. You spared a couple of breaths to be glad that neither Maria or Jamie had been called in for this.

The Pelican took a second, more glancing blow and the resulting shudder rattled your teeth.

"Covvies?" somebody asked over the engine whine and the private across from you shrugged.

"Who else?" she said. "But that felt like surface-to-air to me. What about you?"

She met your eyes and it was your turn to shrug. "I'm not sure. Never been hit by any sort of missile before."

"Oh well, congratulations on your first missile salvo," she returned with a crooked grin.

The Pelican rolled once more, this time in an evasive maneuver, then thankfully smoothed out and made its escape without further incident.

Your unit was taken to the covert off-world depot known colloquially as The Pit, where everything that had been marked for repair or recycle would be delivered for further sorting. In the center of the large warehouse area was a compactor pit for all of the scrap to be sent into. Several cranes were already busy moving the smaller vehicles like Warthogs and Mongeese into berths to be stripped down while the still operational vehicles were lining up to be loaded onto heavy transport carriers to be returned to base.

You finished stripping your second Warthog for salvageable parts and signaled the nearest lift operator. The clawlike crane clamped onto the 'hog's shell, picking it up and carrying it towards the compactor while you moved on to a Mongoose with a crumpled left rear wheel.

Then, out of the corner of your eye, you spotted a Warthog with a particularly distinctive twisted rear antenna being dropped off into the line to be loaded up and returned to FLEETCOM.

Frowning, you wove your way through the other mechanics, avoiding the occasional flying part, and found a green circle sprayed onto the hood.

Shit, the private must've heard me wrong when I told him to red X it. It seemed like an odd mistake to make but things had been hectic.

You grabbed a sprayer and neutralized the green and sprayed over it with a red X, then went to the nearest crane operator.

"You see that 'hog with the X on it? Drop it in the line for the compactor, please."

"Got it," the woman said and you waited until she'd picked it up and deposited it appropriately before you returned to work.

You were elbows into a Gauss 'hog's engine bay when you heard your rank and name called. Looking up, your heart gave a little skip: John in full helmeted Mjolnir strode your way with thundering steps you could hear even over the rest of the cacophony.

"With me," he said tersely, passing by and disappearing through a doorway at the back of the warehouse.

You had to hustle to catch up and he had already stopped by the time you joined him in the otherwise empty hallway. He turned, removing his helmet with a slight pneumatic hiss.

"Are you okay?" you both said at the same time.

The angle of the hallway meant you were shielded from most of the work floor. He set his helmet down and very carefully took your hands in his gloved ones.

"Insurgents took the field," he said, looking you over from head to toe. "Did you see combat? Intel was unclear."

"No, we got out but the Pelican took a few shots. Somebody said it felt like surface-to-air but I didn't remember Covenant using anything like that. It was insurgents, then?"

He nodded distractedly, glancing away to mutter, "I'll be right there." Then he looked back to you. "I have to go. Your unit's being sent back to Reach but if they divert you into combat..."

He trailed off, clearly realizing there was no way to finish that sentence the way he wanted.

"Tell them, nah, I'd rather not, thanks?" Your mouth twitched and you squeezed his fingers.

He gave a resigned chuckle. "Yeah, try that, please."

"You're the one who'll be much more in the thick of it," you pointed out. "You be careful, okay?"

"Always try," he said, bringing your hands up to press a kiss to the back of both.

Kai leaned around the door, her visor glinting green. "Chief, sorry but we've got to go."

"Copy that." He released you with clear reluctance and picked up his helmet. "Stay safe. I'll see you soon."

He vanished through the doorway and you took a breath, exhaling slowly. John suddenly appeared right in front of you again, leaning down to cup your face in one hand.

You were just about to ask if something was wrong when he kissed you.

For a moment, for forever, the universe shrank to just the two of you, his mouth on yours, a little frantic at first, then slowing, steadying out.

You felt like you were hovering off the ground and then realized you were; he'd picked you up at some point, pressing you gently to his chest plate. Your hand dropped to the 117 etched near his heart and it was gritty with sand and dirt. You were both grimy and sooty but it didn't matter. It couldn't have been more perfect if you were in a flowing ballgown and him in a tux, slowly spinning together on a glittering palace floor.

He set you back onto your feet but you only parted a breath away from each other.

"I... I'll get better with practice," he mumbled.

You smiled at him, feeling wobbly, lightheaded and more grounded than you'd ever been before, all at the same time. "John, if you were any better at that, I'd have to show you how fast I can get a Spartan out of their Mjolnir with my bare hands."

He was near enough to see his pupils dilate and that was incredibly gratifying. "I'll hold you to that," he said, his voice dropping an entire octave, making your toes literally curl inside your boots.

Then he put his helmet back on and left. You took a moment to compose yourself, then exited as well. There was no sign of Silver Team. No doubt, the Pelican waiting for him had taken off the second he'd boarded.

Cutting through the busy deck, you looked for any vehicle marked with a white stripe, still waiting to be stripped. On an impulse, you diverted to the line being dropped one at a time into the compactor. There was no sign of the curly tailed Warthog.

It could've already been compacted, you were thinking when you saw it going by overhead, clutched in a crane claw and heading back towards the line to return to Reach.

You didn't stop to think, you sprinted for the crane's operator booth. "Hey, put that 'hog down!"

The operator looked at you and you realized in a burst that it was the blond man you'd originally told to mark it with the red X back on the battlefield, who'd apparently designated it instead to come back to The Pit.

No, to go back to FLEETCOM.

Recognition went across his face at the same moment and he bolted from the booth. The lift automatically stopped, the Warthog swaying over the crowded deck.

You knew. You just knew.

You ran as fast as you could and slammed the alarm on the wall. "Bomb!" you bellowed over the shrill klaxon. "Bomb! Clear out!"

Jumping into the operator booth and grabbing the controls, you quickly scanned the area as marines scattered everywhere. There was only one place you could think to go.

You swung the arm around, guiding the curly tailed 'hog firmly clasped in its grip towards the compactor pit. It felt like it was taking a year to get there but you couldn't release the controls or the safety would bring it once more to a stop. Once the Warthog was finally in position, you opened the grip.

What if I'm wrong? you thought as it began to fall. I'll feel like such a fool if--

There was a saying that if you were close enough to an explosion, you would never actually hear it.

It was true.

If you don't know the Troop Transport Warthogs, here's one in action from Halo: Reach. It's on the level "ONI: Sword Base" and is scripted to be destroyed but there's a way to save it and the marines in it and take it with you for a great deal of the rest of the level! I love saving the Troop 'hog, even if it always still looks like it's on fire. Nah, it's fiiiiiine, no worries! 😎👍😂😉

໑ৎ ׁ  ׅ♡ tw !! — SPOILERS FOR SEASON 2 "THE CHASE". pessimistic pov (bcuz you are enemies with the avatar rn) at the beginning parts. reader has been stalking team avatar to gain intell. fem!reader.

"it's those four girls from omashu!", katara exclaimed, entering into a fighting stance along with toph, aang, and sokka.

"we can take 'em, but that one's mine." toph responds, pointing torwards you atop of your mongoose lizard. you looked up to lock eyes with the cute girl in green, she seems to have her eyes on you too. you smiled to yourself, a small blush tinging your cheeks before you remarked to ty-lee about the cute girl in green as you and your girls approached them.

after a rather short battle between azula's team and team avatar consisting of team avatar repeatedly blocking you three off and defending themselves while you attacked the three as best as you could. from your point of view, the cute girl in green was focusing most of her attacks on you mostly. it made you smile that she may have some sort of focus on you, seeing as your eyes were trained on her too. seeing as they were about to leave since they found out who you four were, you followed them into their flight into the skies with their tired bison. azula in particular seemed rather ticked off by it, but her determination kept her going and chasing them adamantly all the way to nan shen river.

according to your own calculations, it's been approximately a day since azula's team has kept team avatar from sleeping, and it was pretty obvious they were tired. they haven't slept for a day since you and your team of four have been chasing them, and you three used that to your advantage. though, your calculations weren't exact as some certain earthbender had caught your attention, and possibly even your heart.

you and your best girls mai, ty-lee and azula have been on their tails consisently, being able to track them from their bison's fur shedding. dumb kids, not even paying attention or bothering to wonder how you've been able to track them. you've been able to use a tank train to chase team avatar while you all rode mongoose lizards once you left the train to properly chase team avatar.

azula ran her hands through the river at approximately the point where the trail of fur they'd been using to track team avatar had stopped. "wads of wet fur," mai concluded, gazing down at the bundles of soft white fur that had been strewn about in the riverbed. ", how delightful."

ty-lee hummed curiously, scratching her head before responding, "they're not wads, they're more like bundles. or bunches? it's got an "uh" sound." they hadn't even realized azula had already stood up, hearing mai respond to ty-lee while your eyes followed the princess out of fear of a cruel punishment due to disobedience.

turning around, mai follows the trail of white fur with her eyes and concludes once more, "they went this way." azula thought for a moment, before squinting and stating that, "the avatar is trying to give them the slip. you two head in that direction while you," she glares almost determined daggers into you while she walks off, "and i will follow this trail." distantly you hear mai and ty-lee's mongooses scurry off while you and azula hop onto your respective mongooses and separate ways.

you and azula caught up with the avatar in an abandoned village somewhere sandy (presumably a desert but i can't exactly pinpoint if it's a desert or not). hopping off your mongooses, you and azula stood before the avatar. apparently he didn't recognize azula based off the fact she's zuko's sister. and apparently she didn't recognize you as!one of those girls from omashu", too tired to do so.

amidst the confrontation and cornering aang, deeming him too tired to cause damage towards azula or you, zuko showed up and tried to act as the peacemaker until azula finally struck. and there was the beginning of the fight between the the princess and you vs. the avatar and zuko.

almost all the buildings had been destroyed or burned by azula's blue fire and it really seemed like you and azula had aang cornered until katara, the water tribe sister had finally came to the avatar's rescue. honestly, it sounds silly that the avatar had to be rescued when he can control all 4 elements if you ask me.

one by one, the avatar's teammates had returned to the airbender's rescue, with sokka, the water tribe boy coming in soon after katara did, blocking azula with a boomerang looking weapon, azula's uncle coming back to help zuko up and heal him, and the cute earthbender girl, toph returned, moving the earth under you two to knock you into azula, making both of you fall. after a failed attempt at running, you two were cornered by all of them.

"well, look at this. enemies and traitors all working together." azula stated, "how silly. resorting to teaming up with the avatar, huh, zuko?", (which came from you) throwing a sassy remark/insult about the situation before assuming surrender after azula did. "i'm done. i know when i'm beaten. you got me. a princess surrenders with honor." until azula struck her uncle, causing team avatar + zuko to attack you and azula with all elements on tow (+ a boomerang from that water tribe boy), in the heat of it all, you and azula managed to escape atop the mongoose lizards once more.

looking back on your mongoose lizard, you remarked "that earthbender girl is kind of cute." before you ran off. azula shouted at you to be quiet before demanding that you two find ty-lee and mai before retreating back to the fire nation's palace.

it seemed like the cute earthbender girl looked back at you before you ran off. she sighed, and into the night fell asleep atop the flying bison, finally finding a place to rest while you and your girls retreated.

these past few days preceding the chase between azula's team and the avatar's team, you had been stalking them in search of intellect that could benefit azula's team. the main reason was to find out when to strike perfectly as to ensure victory. though, you may have been... sidetracked.

you observed all four of them. you learned some stuff about them. katara, sokka, aang, and toph. you didn't feel anything about either of those three. they didn't really interest you as much, but you were forced to keep your eyes on aang and sokka the most as it seemed like sokka handled "scheduling" while aang was the one you really needed. but while you were stalking the group one night, you were caught.

as you walked in the woods around the camp of team avatar, the earth suddenly rumbled around you, and you were immobilized. turning around, you came face to face with toph, the earthbender of the group.

"who are you and what are you doing here?!", she exclaimed in a fighting position. based on observations, she was the one they had to fear most other than aang because... she was that good (but ty-lee just said that you only said that because you had a crush on her). knowing this, you probably stood no chance because she'd block all your attacks, bending or nonbending. "i know you were watching us all night, i can feel the vibrations your shoes make on the earth.", she stood her ground but you were mostly enamoured by her, and she can tell your heart is racing. she then stomped on the ground, a pillar appearing behind you to threaten you into revealing your true intentions.

you didn't admit all of the truth, but you said enough to make her stop questioning you. magically, actually convincing yourself you're telling the truth (when you were lying) managed to get her to believe you're telling the truth! it definitely wasn't easy to get out the situation, even more difficult to continue stalking for information when every other night, the cute earthbender would find you again or force you to leave with a stone wall in your face pushing you out of the area.

to you, it just seemed like she was blocking you off because you were stalking them. but you didn't know the full truth at all.

the next day when toph awoke from slumber, she told everyone what had happened. they recognized you as one of those girls from omashu, and concluded that you stalked them to gain intellect for azula. now, because toph wasn't there when you and your girls attacked in omashu, they had to explain who "those four girls from omashu" were, as four girls, including the dangerous and wild princess of the fire nation, who were their enemies as they directly worked under firelord ozai. however, toph seemed intrigued mostly by you. she wanted to know more about you, but they didn't really know much about you. concluding that she'll learn when the time comes, she decided to found out more by tracking your whereabouts on her own.

the others esp. found quite odd since toph never really cared to know more about any other person they fought or even interacted with, let alone their enemy. while she was away or asleep, it was mentioned by katara some minutes after toph asked again, followed by some snickering and wondering questions by aang and sokka. she was really adamant about it, but was quite stubborn to reveal why she wanted to know more. "it's none of your business!" she'd say, stomping off or looking away, trying to hide her red face.

how odd...

weeks later, you were cornered by toph once again, just before your team (aka azula's team) was going to take down the outer wall of ba sing se, the capital of the earth kingdom, to conquer the city in the name of the fire lord. you and toph made a deal where you would tell toph azula's plans that would result in conflict with team avatar's plans and toph would maybe kinda sorta let you be friends with her.

you could tell she was genuine with the deal, and you agreed to it. not only did it benefit team avatar, but she also got to know more about you. you didn't truly believe in azula's plans, which is why you offered to tell them to toph and in extention, team avatar in an attempt to one day bring azula down.

she planted the idea of just leaving azula's team and joining team avatar. if not for teaching aang [insert your bending type or nonbending self-defense technique], for her ",since you love me so much you came back thrice.", toph remarks with a snarky smirk.

"...i don't love you, i literally just met you a few days ago.", you denied and yet with a distinct blush on your cheeks. she leaned closer to you, "i don't know, that confession to azula seems pretty convincing. don't think i haven't overheard you calling me 'cute' when you ran away with azula." your flush reddened further stating that you never told azula... but you didn't deny it.

"toph, the thought of betraying azula still scares me, " you started, "but i don't think i care if it's for you." she held your hand in her own before responding to you, promising you something that would transcend lifetimes.

"no matter what she says, i'll let you love me anyway...

Have you done a review for Zangoose yet? Love this guy

(This is the last review request in the inbox currently, you guys know the drill, send 'em if you got 'em)

You can't have a rival to a snake Pokemon without making it a mongoose, but I gotta say, I like how abstract Zangoose is. Unlike Seviper, which is fairly literally a snake, you probably would never guess what Zangoose is if not for the name and its Seviper rivalry. Not only is it bipedal, but it's not even half as lanky as an actual mongoose is, and lacks the short ears and elongated snout.

Even though it doesn't look much like its namesake, Zangoose is still pretty neat. It's hard to go wrong with a white and red palette, and the red zig-zag works both as a marking but also implied scarring (or even blood, given how much red is around the claws). These markings create a diagonal sense of flow that's accented by the shape of the tail.

Speaking of the claws, my only really issue with the design is a change they made in DP. Originally, Zangoose was supposed to have purple claws, which were then changed to gray later on:

The reason that matters is that Seviper has red fangs and a red tail but with purple scarring, while Zangoose had purple claws and red scarring. In other words, the color palettes not only matched, but literally showed the dynamic between the two via color coding. It was such a cool detail that's been completely lost over time. Thankfully the gray claws still look fine visually; it's just a shame we lost a bit of the concept along the way.

Regardless, between these two I do think I like Zangoose a bit more. Seviper's still good, but Zangoose just has a more unique and simpler design that really pops nicely.

Side note: Pretty sure I already mentioned this in the Seviper review, but these two could potentially use something; maybe a regional, though something mega-ish could also potentially work. Not a requirement, but it would be cool to see these guys get some love one day.

Colette’s all-black eyes flitted towards the fox(?) who addressed her, then she smirked. She landed supine, so she lifted her legs up and kipped up onto the floor. The mongoose had an athletic build and was fairly tall for a woman, at least in her own realm. Her bushy tail slightly resembled a burnt candle wick near the tip. She had a beige button-up cardigan over a black tank top and blue jeans, red sneakers with white tips on her feet. She had the faint smell of woodsmoke about her and a mysterious, obfuscatory aura.

She grabbed an empty chair and kicked back. “Someone or something,” she shrugged, the smile not fading from her face. “Whatever it was, fate must smile on you for having met me. If this place serves barbecue chicken, fate would be smiling on me, too.”
