Tango glances over, and his eye twitches. The red tint overtakes his vision, the world suddenly behind a curtain of sheer red fabric. He blinks a couple of times until the other colors return, his voice box stuttering stuck still.

Just as he regains some control of his limbs, opening and closing his fists, bending and stretching his legs, admiring the mismatched plates of body, Jimmy joins him with two pouches. Jimmy wipes some spilling blue from the corners of his lips with his thumb, offering a sweet smile on top of the drink.

Jimmy sits on the other swing, turning his head to the night sky and the thousand stars. He looks perfect, in a presentation way.

Hair brushed and fair skin, ironed clothes and not a wrinkle to be found, eyes bright and warm smile. Inviting and friendly and safe.

He speaks just as nicely too, "It's easy to find you."

Tango tilts his head slightly, his eyebrows not working still it seems.

"I mean, it's all blue. The lights and everything, just—" Jimmy waves his hand, the other holding onto the pouch. He brings it to his lips to take a sip. "You're red. It's, I don't know, just makes it easier to find you. Like I can't lose you."

Tango makes the motion of a huff though his lungs and air vents only whir. The corners of his lips twitch though, all for him.

"It's whatever," Jimmy dismisses, waving it off this time. He turns his head, lips on the straw breaking into a smile when their eyes met. "Not like I can my eyes off you anyways."

Blues to a brown and a red, the sky meeting a valcanoe. Briefly, Tango sees red reflected in his eyes, and he wonders how hard Jimmy is looking at him for that to happen.

His voice box squeaks then clicks, and he clears his throat to test the sound. Somehow, Jimmy smiles even more when his voice returns.

"Hi, Jimmy."

"Hi, Tango."

"Hey! Tango, can you give me a hand!"

As soon as the words leave Jimmy's lips, he grimaces, regret setting in as something flies by on the edges of his vision. The clank against the wall and subsequent thud as it falls to the ground zips the barn of all sound.

Slowly, he turns his head to it, just staring at the metal arm laying there. He breaks into a smile, however, when he sees the fingers pinching a baby blue flower.

"Huh-uh! Get in here you!" He yells as he stands up, walking over to pick up the arm. He pries the flower from the fingers, carefully tucking it over his ear, the stem piercing through his hair.

Shortly after, footsteps muffle in the hay and dirt, gears and spring-locks and pumps filling the air. A quiet huff, an amused smile.

Jimmy turns and tosses the arm back to him, crossing his arms over his chest, popping his hip as Tango re-adjusts his arm back.

Tango looks at him, guilty expression on his face, and Jimmy notices the green eye today.

"Help?"

Jimmy exhales, exasperated but there is a fond smile on his lips. Grumpily, he walks over, taking the grey arm again as Tango holds up his short sleeve. He sees flour on the fake skin, a dash of cinnamon too, and some dried egg whites.

"Cooking something?" He asks as he bends down a little, trying to find the joint. He nudges him to turn so he can get better lighting.

"Trying," Tango corrects with a small laugh. "Pix is napping so I have the house to myself! And the cats, and Benny, but mostly me."

He snorts, "Don't burn my kitchen down."

With a click, Tango's arm is secured again. Tango turns and spins his elbow, rotating it to secure it before looking beside Jimmy's arm. A bicycle is leaning against a hay stack, a wheel laying on the ground and most of the parts disassembled.

"Wanna swap?" Tango asks, gesturing to the bicycle with his head.

"I'll help you inside, then you help me. That work?"

Tango smiles, then two-finger salutes him.

Jimmy stares at the manual, Tango's handwriting denting the pages. The ink is old now, the color fading and the edges of the papers are browning. The pages are crisp and fragile, and he cannot turning the pages, reading the lines over and over.

Instructions. Step by steps. Crossed out sections, new sections, everything of Tango's. Maintenance. How to keep him alive.

The pages crumple under his hand as his vents overheat, his pump so loud in his chest cavity. It rings in his ears too, the slow release of steam as he tries to figure what he did wrong.

But his eyes drift, and prying them is hard. Too hard. He stares.

Tango lays in bed unmoving, still. Too still. He did everything by the letter, he did everything as Tango had taught him, a precision ingrained in his code to save lives.

How long had it been?

His own system needs maintenance. Every part of him is working overtime, running on fumes without fuel and lubricant. He feels rigid and rusted, and he cannot stop wondering how Tango can live like this, and he cannot stop seeing the worse.

A red light turning off forever.

That cannot be.

His phone rings nearby, shattering in the silence of the room. He focuses on nothing but the occasional beeps and steady buzzing, no real way of knowing the circuit is actually connected until Tango gives a sign. A reaction. Something.

Just as he resigns himself to look for his phone and answer Pixl, a spark flies and Tango jolts. He flops back on the bed, exhaling fumes.

In a blink, Jimmy is by his side, taking his hand, trembling though he is not sure if he is worried or playing with his own life.

"Hey rancher," Tango manages to whisper with a weak smile.

"You'll be okay," Jimmy replies instantly, squeezing his hand. He drops to his knees, taking his hand with both hands now. He presses Tango's hand to his forehead, eyes screwed shut as his words come out strained, "I did everything you taught me. You'll be okay, you hear? Pixl will fix you soon, just hang in there. Hang in there, Tango, okay? Just a little longer."

Weakly, Tango squeezes his hands back, pushing against his forehead with all the strength he can manage. "Thanks, Jimmy."

Carnival Row season 2 episodes 1 and 2 review

I just watched the first two episodes of Season 2 of Carnival Row.   There was a very long recap of what happened in Season 1. There was an unusually long gap between season 1 and 2, nearly a full four years between seasons, something rare for TV or streaming but Covid got in the way of Season 2′s already lengthy production and I think they ended up scrapping the original plan for Season 2 to make this wrap up all the loose ends of season 1. First a reminder of what the premise is of Carnival Row.  Carnival Row is about a fantasy world that resembles our own world in the Victorian era.  Carnival Row is the name of the ghetto similar to London’s White Chapel or New York’s Hell’s Kitchen of the nineteenth century.  Faeries (known as pix), trolls, fauns, centaurs, Kobolds, and werewolves.  Supernatural creatures are treated as second-class citizens and are known by the racist slur of “Critch.” (a bastardization of “creature.”)       

The main character is Philo Rycroft, a half-fae who (until the events of season 1) was “human passing�� and worked as a police inspector.  Philo’s former lover, a faery named Vignette comes to The Burge (The city-country) as an indentured servant.  She gains her freedom and soon finds herself wrapped up in the activities of a small crime syndicate acting out of Carnival Row.  Vignette (who is bisexual) has a former lover, Tourmaline (a prostitute working out of Carnival Row).

Through many plot twists it is gets revealed that Philo is the bastard son of the Chancellor, Breakspeare (a high ranking political figure).  And he has a half-brother, Jonah.  Jonah is busy stirring up racial hatred for the sake of political manipulations with his lover and supposed political rival who is actually his sister, Sophie. A late-middle aged gentleman named Runyan Millworthy, who has deep sympathies for the fae managed to establish himself in the good graces of Jonah, and so is able to try manipulate things for the better. And a high class human woman named Imogen runs off with a faun lover.

In season 2 of Carnival Row the story begins with Carnival Row sealed off with barbed wire and looking alarmingly like a a World War 2 Jewish ghetto. This is the result of the Chancellor's murder in the pervious season as the fae are being blamed.  

There have always been obvious allegories for immigration, what happened to the Irish during the “Potato famine,” colonialism, and other social allegories but this season is very quick to dive into that darkness.  There’s an illness that resembles tuberculosis plaguing the fae and medicine is scarce. 

Vignette is viewed as a hero for leading raids out of the ghetto to steal medicine. Her former lover, Tourmaline, has gained the powers of a deceased witch who used entrails to see the future. (There’s a gruesome and unnecessary death scene of a child’s cat in the first episode). Philo wins a favor of a minor crime lord in “The Row” (another name for Carnival Row) who helps him free a former soldier friend (a werewolf) from prison, as being a werewolf is an automatic life sentence or death. Imogen and her lover escaped The Burge but find themselves in the domain of The New Dawn (which is very blatantly their world’s version of The Soviet Union).  Last season had The Pact, which was a Nazi-Germany like country driving the fae out of their homeland, which is how they ended up in The Burge.

  During a political dinner Philo intended to reveal his true lineage (with the aid of Runyan) as to try to get Carnival Row opened up again (as it’s a sealed off ghetto now).  This was not likely to work because even if Philo was believed and he inherited his biological father’s title, there is the matter of the racism against him for being half-Critch. Before he could do this, however, Vignette (wearing a mask) and some of her criminal compatriots show up at the dinner in order to present a dying fae woman to show the people in power what they are doing to them. This doesn’t seem to win sympathy or mercy, however, as the heads (and wings) of those Vignette was under in her Criminal organization, are soon nailed to to the wall surrounding Carnival Row. The wall had already gained the heads of four fauns who were used as scapegoats (I just noticed the symbolism of fauns as scapegoats. I’m thick...) for the death of the councilor.  One of these behead fauns, I believe, is the missing brother, of Sophie’s favorite servant, though it’s hard to tell if Sophie actually realizes this or not. Jonah and Sophie are talking about spreading out The Burge as an empire “like it once was” (clearly The British empire) including taking the fae homeland (which is pretty blatantly Ireland). There’s been one unsolved murder in the season, caused by someone who can fly but apparently has leathery bat-like wings and not the fluttery fae wings (My guess is some type of vampire that hasn’t been introduced in the show yet). And that’s pretty much where the plot is right now.  

The pacing of season 2 is decent. Like in Season 1, Runyan Millworthy (the older human character) is my favorite character so far.

The World War 2 allegories are a bit ham fisted and darker than than classism and immigration allegories of the first season, which I used to consider ham-fisted but these are much more blunt.  I get their purpose and meaning but it’s so intense and amplified that I almost wonder if it’s disrespectful to the real horror of what happened in the holocaust.                       A lot of the symbolism is pretty blatant but it’s good to see the world-buliding such as with the “New Dawn” which is a government sprung from revolution (much like the Russian revolution) and feels like an early Soviet Union equivalent for this world. 

I do wish more fantasy shows would tap into the genre of Gaslamp fantasy. It’s as if people have it in their head that if it isn’t Urban fantasy (set in present day in our world) that it should then be medieval-esque fantasy.  A fantasy world that is not actually our world but just similar, and looking a lot like our Victorian era is a refreshingly new visual.  I can almost imagine this world as being the same one from The Witcher, just a few centuries in the future.   I like the setting and the world building.  The special effects are also decent.  But it’s just gotten so bleak.  I would like the show to finally show a little hope.  Gothic does not mean depressing or ugly.   Something can be Gothic and also hopeful.

I work as a tutor in a program for aspiring teachers at an elementary school, and I stumbled on a book that I used to read as a kid- “Skippyjon Jones.” Basically, it’s about a Siamese cat who thinks he’s a Chihuahua and… hoo boy. There’s stereotypes galore- fake Spanish where they basically tack on an o or ito to a word, bandidos, and I kid you not- the Chihuahuas are mad that a bandit stole their beans. Yes, you heard me right- BEANS. Of course, there’s people who are like “it’s not racist snowflakes everyone’s so pc” but lots of Latine people and others have said that it makes them uncomfortable. I myself am Latine and cringed while reading it.

So I have seen these books but until you messaged me I'd forgotten about them for well over 8 years I think. I was given a skippy jon jones book back in 2007. (full disclosure I was in college but had not yet applied cultural appropriation to like media critically in fact I'm not sure I'd taken even one class on anthropology which is where the term comes from).

I'll try to dig up my copy but mean while I might just take pix of the books from my local library and talk about the specific examples.

Like don't get me wrong I understand you're sitting there uncomfortable in your observations about this series but I just want people to know that this is probably something how like Native Americans feel seeing their cultures appropriated in the HP series (or how Jewish people feel when they're examining the Goblins in the series for that matter).

Like the frustrating thing tho is that there's plenty of examples of this sort of thing in literature where white people have literally made fun of our cultures and bastardized them for their own gain.

There's a difference between cultural appropriation and cultural appreciation.

Like ok I was just at starbucks today with a friend and granted I haven't really sat inside a starbucks more than like twice since the pandemic hit. Anyways I heard a ranchera song playing (I can't be sure if it was vicente fernandez my friend shazamed it). and like granted I've heard other non white artists playing at Starbucks before. but like its nice that they know their audience (somewhere in California lol) and there's nothing wrong with appreciating music from another culture you know? Just as long as its not some white person profitting of nonwhite cultures (looking at you madonna for the fetishization of black bodies in the 80's/90's, looking at you gwen stefani for the use of literal asian women as your entourage, looking at you ariana grande for blackface).

the difference is that Starbucks is endorsing our Mexican culture by playing rancheras by mexican singer/songwriters. meanwhile Judy Byron Schachner was treating Mexican culture like a play thing and profitting off of her bastardization.

Bird of Prey Chapter Five: The Long Road Home

When Jimmy awoke, it wasn't white. It wasn't as quiet as it had been. Faintly, he could hear the little whispered murmurs of the void around them. He stood up slowly and cracked his back, fluffing out his wings and stretching a little to get his body back into motion. In the distance, he could make out two figures. A Watcher, purple eyes shimmering around their body, and a Listener, golden wings glowing dimly against the light of the void. Jimmy carefully approached them, and both looked over to him, welcoming him with broad smiles.

"Hey, there he is!" Grian laughed softly and clapped a hand against Jimmy's back lightly. "The man of the hour! You won, Tim!"

"I did?" Jimmy tilted his head. "We went out together, though.."

"He died a bit before you." Martyn explained. "Congrats, Jimmy.. you earned this."

Jimmy smiled a little bit, rubbing the back of his neck. "Yeah... n- no hard feelings, right you guys?"

"Of course not." Martyn shook his head. "Cleo was acting like a bitch anyways.. I needed that wakeup call."

"Are you kidding, Tim? I'm so proud of you." Grian smiled and yanked Jimmy into a hug, snorting as he heard his friend let out a squawk. "That was your moment.. and you owned it! And- don't worry. They got your message loud and clear. You're alright. I promise."

Jimmy slowly melted into the embrace and grinned, content to stay like that until he heard Martyn clap and clear his throat.

"So! What'cha got planned now, Jim?"

"I... I dunno..." He hadn't really given it much thought, now that he looked at it. He was more focused on the game, and on Tango. Not on what comes after.

Grian hummed in thought. "It's been a thousand years in Empires since the first season... no one will remember the Codfather, y'know. Well- Except Pix, maybe, but y'know. That's Pix for ya."

"Yeah..." Jimmy smiled. Going back to Empires sounded fun. And maybe he'd build a new ranch, something to dedicate to the one who showed him what freedom truly felt like.

Freedom. The word felt foreign now that he had it, in all honesty. But he couldn't be happier, he decided. This was freedom.

Freedom in going back to Empires, becoming a sheriff. A promotion from being just a plain rancher.

Tango would be so proud.. He found himself thinking.

Tango would be proud of him for more than that. He'd been actually standing up for himself, moreso than he used to. Even if half the time it fell on deaf ears. He was at least trying.

Often times he found himself thinking about his soulmate. He'd zone out in the middle of a work day, mentally back in the old ranch, Tango by his side. It almost physically ached sometimes.

"Sheriff?" Fwhip had caught him zoned out, waving a hand in front of his face. "What'cha thinkin' about?"

Jimmy couldn't lie to him. Not that it wasn't easy, he just felt this wasn't something he needed to lie about. "My soulmate..."

Fwhip looked up at Jimmy with almost a child-like(or maybe cat-like) curiosity. "Soulmate?" His eyes flickered towards the ring on Jimmy's left hand. "What's a soulmate?"

Jimmy paused at the question. He couldn’t help smiling as he leaned against the wall of the cave. "Well,, a soulmate.. at least from my experience, is the most wonderful person in the world..."

"I'm Jimmy,, real nice to meet you."

"Tango. You're kinda cute, yknow."

"Very funny."

"Sometimes the universe assigns you exactly who you needed."

"You paired me with Tango?"

"Yeah, I did. Saw you two eying each other up during Last Life."

"The person you needed the most in your life... they make you feel safe. And warm.. and loved, most of all. No matter what."

"Never love a canary... they're meant for the coalmines."

"I'll be your coalmine, then."

"He sounds great.." Fwhip broke the sheriff from his thoughts with a little tug to his vest. "Come on though- we got work to do!"

"Right- right-" Jimmy followed him quickly. And for a while, neither said a word. Until Fwhip looked up at him again.

"Do you think you'll ever see him again?"

Jimmy hadn't given it much thought. He'd like to see Tango again. He hoped it'd be possible eventually, maybe before the next death game.

Would Tango even recognize him? He hadn't changed a whole lot, he wanted to think. Blond hair, blue eyes, a blue bandana.. the only real differences were the sheriff hat, the badge, a bit of stubble at his chin and... of course.

The wings. He'd lost his wings in the journey over. Things hadn't started by the time he got to Empires, so he had time to stop and rest at a town for a bit. There, he learned the consequences of upsetting a rigid status quo.

Maybe it was a punishment from the Watchers.

He couldn't say for certain. He realized Fwhip still wanted an answer, clearing his throat and rubbing the back of his neck. "Uh.. right.. I- I hope so... I hope I can see him again.." He managed a little smile. "Maybe some day.."

He didn't expect it to be the day of the rift, the festival, after he'd been pushed around by practically everyone.

First, it was a laugh and teasing from Grian, hearing him yell "You're not even safe in your own server!". They laughed and hugged and exchanged playful jabs. And then he heard it.

"Is that my rancher?!"

His head whipped up to see who had called for him. And lo and behold.

He sprang forward into Tango's arms, the ice mage spinning him in delight as he cupped his face and kissed him. With all the sweet tenderness that had built up in the time they'd been gone.

He could hardly hear the jabs of those around them. All he could see was Tango.

His soulmate. His rancher.

He was home.

Empires Eggpire:

I’ve said it before how I think hermtis would react if the egg from the dream smp came to their server. A classic egg empire arc because I love that arc so much. Just the concept of an alien esq egg coming to a server and seeing how a character reacts to it is so cool to think about. So a course I had to do empires smp!

It should be noted that I’m talking about season 2 empire characters but if you want season 1 please do tell.

Pix: He is 100% getting possessed. I’m sorry that man would want to research the history of the egg and how it ended up on the server, you’re telling me he wouldn’t be interested in it’s offers? He would want to take a piece of it to his museum and then feel pain from trying to chip away a few pieces of the egg. He’s a curious man. Maybe a leader too.

Scott: Too big to bring it to his black market business and probably feels unease or indifference about it. Would definitely step in if it starts taking away colour from his empires though. Colour man needs his rainbow palette, black, white and red won’t do.

Lizzie: There needs to be a possessed cat in every eggpire, it’s the lore. Anyway, Lizzie feels 50/50 to me. She gives the vibes that she’ll turn away from the egg or she’ll follow it because it offers chickens.

Jimmy: On one hand Jimmy feels like the Puffy or Sam type that would arrest the egg because it’s a danger to the server. On the other hand this is Jimmy we’re taking about. I’m not too sure if he would get possessed but the corrupt sherif troupe is readily available, just saying.

Shubble: She is throwing every single potion she has at the egg. Shubble wants to help her friends with her magic and potions, she cured a possessed Cub before so she can do it again. I do think she might be getting a bit possessed in canon right now so sorry to Shrubs but I don’t think she would be immune to the egg. Perhaps there’s promises of safety, love and friendship.

Joel: He’s either staying completely out of it because he’s indifferent, joins out of spite to the law or hates the egg because it called him mean names. However Joel would not be able to stop the egg on his own. We’ve seen in canon before that a god of lightning and thunder had no power in the egg’s domain.

Joey: That man will either try to steal the egg or get possessed trying. Joey will either follow the egg’s doing if that means he gets what he wants. Or he will scoff at it because that’s just a big dumb egg, it can’t boss this pirate around.

False: Very unease by it. She’s not having a great time with it. However, I think she can murder for the eggpire, as a treat. I need to catch up to false lore but maybe she wants stability or strength so she accepts the egg’s promises. I’m not too sure how False would react.

Sausage: The vibe I’m getting is very terrified and not trusting at all. I can’t really see him joining the eggpire, I can’t think of a good motive to why he would. Plus Bubbles would not approve. Also some blood red sheep that he can talk to wouldn’t be the best conversation.

Katherine: She’s already planning on attacking the egg as we speak. She already has enough problems in her empires, an evil egg is like any other monster. She’s up for the challenge!

Fwhip: Hmmm, this is a tricky one. I can’t picture Fwhip getting possessed unless it has something to do with the sherif’s badge. But at the same time he has the toy shrine so I don’t think the egg would want to touch him.

Oli: For a treat I think he would be immune. You know how the eggpire hated Tommy and wanted him dead? Yeah, that but it’s Oli. He’s out hearing singing his silly little bard songs in his silly little bard outfit. Meanwhile the egg, fed up and annoyed, is planning on ripping Oli limb by limb. Can’t tell if Oli would have balls of steel and mock the egg or would end up terrified of the egg.

Gem: Oh hell no, she already has her own cult, there’s no way she’ll abandon praying to bdubs for a giant egg. Gem wouldn’t be interested in the egg until it starts to breach and infect all of the empires. She’s seen it before with a new corrupt force (*cough cough* rentheking) so she’ll join forces to stop the egg. However, if Gen was to get possessed and can still travel between worlds, we could potentially have patient zero. Spread the eggpire’s message to other servers.

I would go to my hermit eggpire post for ideas on how the egg spawned in the first place but here’s some more little headcanons:

Depending which empire the egg resides in, the leader on that area would call Pix in to observe this strange object. Most likely areas are as follow: The Ancient Capital, Cogsmeade, The Evermore, Goblands and Tumble Town.

Empires would take the egg as a more serious threat compared to the hermits because lore.

The Egg would most likely appear after the hermits go home or sometime during their stay. This is due to the rift maybe being a bit weird and wonderful.

Speaking of the rift, it would be so very angsty if Gem disappeared from hermitcraft because she got stuck dealing with the egg-apocalypse. The hermtis wondering where their friend went because she didn’t leave any information behind. Maybe she returns the same. Maybe she returns a bit strange. Who knows…

Also what if the hermits could return to empires, only to see a desolate landscape full of red vines, a red sky and tense, uneasiness in the air. Not one in sight. For miles and miles they travel, more vines more of the colour red. The bridge is over taken by the egg and is near crumbling down. They finally see some familiar faces but my lord, they’re not them. They’ve changed. Nothing about them screams safe. Empire members are a shell of themselves with red eyes and ready to serve.

Depending how much of a connection each member has with the previous season, wouldn’t some feel familiar with the growing red vines and blood red sheep? Imagine how sausage would feel about the sheep and Joey feel about this strange memory.

Anyway, that’s all I got so enjoy.

My Magic The Gathering 2022 commander deck wrap-up.

I started playing commander mid February this year and since then I have gone through a fair few decks, here are the ones that I keep sleeved and ready to go!

"Dust em, Pix!", Built by me in 2022. Commander: Alela, Artful Provocateur. Colour Combo: Esper (Black, Blue, White.) Theme: Curses, Faeries, and Flying. FAIRY COMMANDER! FAIRY COMMANDER! I'm about 70% done editing this deck, It's really fun but it doesn't have a strong win condition. It's really good at messing with everyone at the table, sometimes it's fun to play with a little bit of salt. This deck also tends to bump up the politics at the table as everyone bargains with you not to get cursed.

Starcall, Built by me in 2022. Commander: Lathiel, the Bounteous Dawn. Colour Combo: Selesnya (White, Green.) Theme: Indestructible Creatures and +1/+1 Counters. This deck is my absolute favorite, my baby! The second I realized I could have a FRIKIN UNICORN COMMANDER I was in love. What could be better than that? I get to have GIANT STOMPY CREATURES and HUGE AMOUNTS OF CATS. I initially built this deck out of $35 worth of janky cards and so far have invested another $150. I am about 90% satisfied with this deck.

Draconic Destruction, starter commander precon released 2022. Commander: Atarka, World Render. Colour Combo: Gruul (Red, Green.) Theme: Dragon Tribal. *This deck is currently vanilla, I haven't swapped out any of the cards.

Elven Empire, commander precon released 2021. Commander: Lathril, Blade of the Elves. Colour Combo: Golgari (Black, Green.) Theme: Elf Tribal. *This deck is currently vanilla, I haven't swapped out any of the cards. Undead Unleashed, commander precon released 2021. Commander: Wilhelt, the Rotcleaver. 3DS North America Updates

If you own a 3DS you can install the updates for games you don’t own, either by searching the word update in the store, or by hitting the search bar and filtering out the Updates genera. While the eshop won’t let you obtain any new software after March 27th, it will still let you download new updates (and reinstall software you already own) for an unspecified amount of time.

I started with a 16GB card with 117,543 blocks of open memory, and I ended process with 62,663 blocks of open memory. In other words; I used roughly 8.5GB on every update alone.

The listed requirements were generally taken from the eshop, (although I did have to take a couple of entries from the Data Management section of my 3DS). This is relevant because the listed requirements on the eshop are generally 1 to 3 blocks higher than their actual size. For example, according to the eshop the Shovel Knight update requires 1378 blocks of storage, but according to the Data Management section of System Settings it only takes up 1376 blocks.

There’s plenty of freeware, but you can also add money to your 3DS account by linking it to a My Nintendo Account and using the shop menu in your Account Settings. You can also add funds via your Switch account (if it’s linked to My Nintendo) or by searching games on Nintendo’s website and buying them there.
