It’s a Good Omens Rant ✨

I’m really sick of holding this in so here it is, and I don’t really give a fuck who sees this at this point because I’ve had it. If you’re pissed by the end of it, it’s probably because I’m talking about you 💓 ✌🏻  I really feel like a lot of the people I've seen complaining about the nepotism when it comes to Ty and Peter's roles or Georgia & Anna being (or now in this case, not being) in Good Omens are the people that ship David and Michael together aggressively or have this extreme attitude towards G & A and at this point, I'm really starting to believe the only reason y’all are pissed is because you know it's gonna break the alternate reality you’ve built in your head where Georgia, Anna, and/or their families aren’t around and Michael and David can live happily ever after together because other than that, it doesn’t make sense to me. It feels so disingenuous that so many people would say “Well it’s nepotism and it’s disgusting” etc. when no one made a peep about nepotism until it had to do with Good Omens. So, in that case, I ask everyone with “concerns”, where is your outrage for every other time this has happened in the industry? Or even with Michael and David specifically before Good Omens?  There wasn’t a huge outcry when Ty was in ATWI80D No one said anything when Georgia Produced YM&H and David had a leading role No one had anything detrimental to say about Georgia meeting David on the set of DW which she most surely got that part because of her father How many times has David worked with Nina Sosanya? Jessica Hynes? Sarah Parish? Fenella Woolgar? Several times for each person and no one bats an eye...

We could go on and on and you’ll still find that there was nowhere near the level of complaining and “concern” with any other show/film than there has been with Good Omens and it’s really sad.  Because it’s very apparent that the “concern” is very one sided to the narrative of “We have to keep their families out of it because it ruins the illusion” and that’s such a weird take to have... especially because you know David and Michael wouldn’t vibe with that, whatsoever. 

Listen, I understand, I enjoy RPF, kinda, in the right circumstances, and usually I’m all about letting people believe what they want, but the fact that so many of you have had this attitude towards something that you haven’t even seen yet and don’t have any context for strictly because you’re pissed that David and Michael don’t get to stay in their little bubble where their real outside relationships don’t exist is mind blowing.  I honestly don’t care whether or not you’re mad about it. It’s a fucking tv show that many, many, many people poured their heart into making and if you believe for a second that two people could “ruin” that with their presence and it causes you genuine “concern” then maybe you should step back and re-evaluate on whether or not this fandom is the best place for you. Not only is that just a shitty attitude to have, it’s such a slap in the face to every single person that worked on the show and did their best to make it something worth watching. And before everyone jumps the gun, because I know it’s coming, we can all save it with the “no one is exempt from criticism” angle, because y’all passed criticism about 8 miles back and it’s now just turned into a full fledge bitchfest where you’re looking for insults on purpose.  But y’all can do you. I’m not bothered by any of it and I’m gonna enjoy every bit of Good Omens 2 🥰

We're not appreciating the Weird Barbie enough. It's said in the movie that she helps everyone who need help while they always see her as someone who's not as good as them. She was friends with all dismissed Barbies and Kens, was there to offer support and safe shelter for everyone who needed it in Kendom, without her nothing in the movie would've been alright. When Stereotypical Barbie calls her "ugly and unwanted" she still helps her.

She was representing a woman in women's world who was pushed aside by other women because she didn't fit in but still had more wisdom and kindness than everyone who thought they're better than her.

because sometimes there are invisible tests and invisible rules and you're just supposed to ... know the rule. someone you thought of as a friend asks you for book recommendations, so you give her a list of like 30 books, each with a brief blurb and why you like it. later, you find out she screenshotted the list and send it out to a group chat with the note: what an absolute freak can you believe this. you saw the responses: emojis where people are rolling over laughing. too much and obsessive and actually kind of creepy in the comments. you thought you'd been doing the right thing. she'd asked, right? an invisible rule: this is what happens when you get too excited.

you aren't supposed to laugh at your own jokes, so you don't, but then you're too serious. you're not supposed to be too loud, but then people say you're too quiet. you aren't supposed to get passionate about things, but then you're shy, boring. you aren't supposed to talk too much, but then people are mad when you're not good at replying.

you fold yourself into a prettier paper crane. since you never know what is "selfish" and what is "charity," you give yourself over, fully. you'd rather be empty and over-generous - you'd rather eat your own boundaries than have even one person believe that you're mean. since you don't know what the thing is that will make them hate you, you simply scrub yourself clean of any form of roughness. if you are perfect and smiling and funny, they can love you. if you are always there for them and never admit what's happening and never mention your past and never make them uncomfortable - you can make up for it. you can earn it.

don't fuck up. they're all testing you, always. they're tolerating you. whatever secret club happened, over a summer somewhere - during some activity you didn't get to attend - everyone else just... figured it out. like they got some kind of award or examination that allowed them to know how-to-be-normal. how to fit. and for the rest of your life, you've been playing catch-up. you've been trying to prove that - haha! you get it! that the joke they're telling, the people they are, the manual they got- yeah, you've totally read it.

if you can just divide yourself in two - the lovable one, and the one that is you - you can do this. you can walk the line. they can laugh and accept you. if you are always-balanced, never burdensome, a delight to have in class, champagne and glittering and never gawky or florescent or god-forbid cringe: you can get away with it.

you stare at your therapist, whom you can make jokes with, and who laughs at your jokes, because you are so fucking good at people-pleasing. you smile at her, and she asks you how you're doing, and you automatically say i'm good, thanks, how are you? while the answer swims somewhere in your little lizard brain:

how long have you been doing this now? mastering the art of your body and mind like you're piloting a puppet. has it worked? what do you mean that all you feel is... just exhausted. pick yourself up, the tightrope has no net. after all, you're cheating, somehow, but nobody seems to know you actually flunked the test. it's working!

the fact that shakespeare was a playwright is sometimes so funny to me. just the concept of the "greatest writer of the English language" being a random 450-year-old entertainer, a 16th cent pop cultural sensation (thanks in large part to puns & dirty jokes & verbiage & a long-running appeal to commoners). and his work was made to be watched not read, but in the classroom teachers just hand us his scripts and say "that's literature"

just...imagine it's 2450 A.D. and English Lit students are regularly going into 100k debt writing postdoc theses on The Simpsons screenplays. the original animation hasn't even been preserved, it's literally just scripts and the occasional SDH subtitles.txt. they've been republished more times than the Bible

those first couple weeks after escaping a time loop have gotta be disorienting as all fuck. all those little cues that used to tell you what's about to happen are now triggers that cause you to brace for something that isn't coming. you have to relearn the permanence of death -- hell, you have reacquaint yourself with the entire concept of finality altogether. everything keeps changing but it never changes back and you keep having to remind yourself that this is normal. "it won't reset anymore," you echo to yourself, over and over and over, like a broken record, like you're still trapped in a loop, like someone who escaped the time loop but was doomed to bring it into the future with them

hey, so people need to be aware that youtube is now (randomly) holding basic features for ransom (such as being able to pin comments under your own videos) in exchange for Your State ID/Drivers License, or a 30 Second Video Of Your Face.

not to pull a "think of the children," but No Actually. I've been making videos as a hobby since 2015 (and I've had my channel since middle school), I was a minor when I started and I'm not sure I would have understood the kind of damage something a seemingly simple as a video of your face can do.

this is a Massive breach of privacy and over-reach on google's part No Matter What, but if they're going to randomly demand a state ID or license then they absolutely should not allow minors to be creators.

google having a stockpile of identifying information on teenagers is bad enough, but the Alternative of recording your face and handing it over to be filed away is Alarming considering it opens the gates for minors who Aren't old enough to have a license.

and yes, there is a third option, but it's intentionally obtuse. a long wait period (2 months), with no guarantee of access (unlike, say, the convenience of using your phone's cameras for either of the other two), with absolutely No elaboration on what the criteria is or how it's being measured.

it's the same psychological effect that mobile games rely on. offer a slow, unreliable solution with no payment to make the Paid instant gratification look more appealing (the "payment" in this case being You. you are the product being offered).

something like pinned comments may seem simple, you don't technically Need it. but it's a feature that's been available for years. most people don't look at descriptions anymore. so when there's relevant information that needs to be delivered then the pinned comment is usually the go to.

for my little channel that information is about the niche series I create for. guides on how to get into the series, sources on where to find the content At All (and reliably so). for other creators it can be used for things Much More Important.

Moreover, if we let them get away with cutting away "small" features and selling it back to you for the price of your privacy, then they Will creep further. they Will take more.
