#which is why he chooses to befriend Ron and not Draco

Hello and welcome to today's instalment of "Harry doesn't know what he's feeling when he's feeling it". I'm in the middle of going through the books (for nerd reasons) and I stumbled upon this passage:
And the thing is: this happens in book 1, right at the beginning of the school year. Not only have Draco and Harry interacted very little so far but the inciting incident that made Harry react this way is peculiar.
You see, Harry here is thinking back on his first ever potions lesson, where Snape tried to humiliate him at every turn. In that scene Draco does not interact with Harry, all he does is be a gleeful spectator to the dressing down and also make potions. Literally.
Draco mentions in the scene:
The slytherin boys (or at the very least the ones Harry knows so far) are amused by Snape's roasting of Harry
2. second verse, same as the first
3. Draco is good at potions, this irritates Harry
That's literally everything. All Draco is guilty of here is being present for Harry's humiliation and being competent at something Harry is trying for the first time. Yes, he's laughing at Harry's misfortune but this is not described as a performance for his benefit (unlike in later books where Draco will make sure Harry sees him laughing at his misfortune). Harry sees Draco's reaction (and Crabbe and Goyle's) but are they the only ones laughing or are they the only ones Harry is paying attention to? Harry explicitly says, in the second passage I mentioned, that he tries not looking at Draco+ Crabbe&Goyle; this to me implies that he's especially conscious of them and their reaction.
As I remarked here about their very first interaction, Harry's feelings towards Draco are, from the get-go, more complicated and nebulous than one might think. If I had to name what sentiments Draco inspires in Harry in these first interactions, I'd say a non insignificant one is inadequacy.
We can see that during the first potions lesson, and again at the thought of a shared flying lesson, Harry very much dislikes the thought of being seen failing by Draco . Why, on Harry's very first night at Hogwarts he has a nightmare and you know who's featured prominently in it, witnessing Harry in an embarrassing situation and laughing about it? None other than Draco Lucius Malfoy.
I find this interesting because Harry claims his feelings towards Draco are similar to what he feels towards Dudley (at this point in the narrative he's remarked on it more than once) but Dudley's actions towards Harry are intentional (pre-Hogwarts dudders loves bullying Harry) whereas Draco has yet to do anything to Harry other than try really badly to befriend him (and be stung by his rejection).
Furthermore Harry, from what we see from his interactions with Dudley, does not seem to be at all self conscious of the way he behaves in front of his cousin nor does he measure his achievements by comparing them with Dudley's. I'd say his general attitude toward Dudley is dismissive, in complete contrast with the competitiveness he feels with Draco yet, somehow, Harry keeps associating the two in his mind.
There's this element of self-fulfilling prophecy in Harry and Draco's interactions (no doubt because jkr is telling us to dislike Draco before showing us why) that I never noticed before. Harry dislikes Draco at first sight (more accurately, he's unsettled by him and decide this means he dislikes him) so he's going to look for other things to dislike in order to reinforce his bias:
Draco receives packages from home? Wow, he's spoiled just like Dudley, nevermind the fact that countless other students are undoubtedly receiving just as many packages.
Draco is a competent beginner potions student? Oh wow, it's just like that git to succeed in a class taught by another git (essentially: if you're favoured by a bad person that means you're bad too)
And because these reactions don't happen in a vacuum, Draco notices them, which fuels HIS complicated emotions vis-à-vis Harry. Add all of this to the feelings of rejection he has no doubt been stewing on and voilà, you have the birth of Draco's decision to be Harry's enemy (since he can't be his friend).
tldr: Harry indadvertedly started the rivalry with Draco and Draco followed suit because negative attention is still attention.
#hp#drarry#hpdm#why I ship it: an illustrated compendium#I kinda read it as: Harry wants a relationship of equals#which is why he chooses to befriend Ron and not Draco#(11 y.o Draco knows nothing about how friendships work see: Crabbe&Goyle)#and you know who else you can have an equal relationship with?#your rival#Harry's desire not to be seen failing by Draco becomes wanting to win against him real quick#harry potter meta#the Blorger Special

REQUESTS ARE OPEN!
Word count: 1020
Summary: In which reader meets Narcissa Malfoy.
Requested by anon
Request: Would you do a part two of your Draco imagine “choose to be better”? It was absolutely adorable!
A/N: so uh this turned into a narcissa headcanon, because i personally believe she’s a good person despite her choices, and I think she would be better after the war. She did literally everything for draco and I just wanted her thanking the reader for helping her son. hope you enjoy anon!
~~~
The war was over, but that seemed to be the easiest part. The anniversary was coming up and you were still going to Hogwarts. You had originally planned to become a Healer at St. Mungo’s, but you couldn’t start training until Draco was with you. The both of you agreed to take your eighth year together with McGonagall as the headmistress.
Neither of you were assigned dorm mates, so you generally took turns sleeping in the other’s dorm most nights, afraid of being alone again. Draco was the one that often held you tightly as nightmares caused him to shake all over.
The Golden Trio, or at least two of them, had left Hogwarts for good, heading straight for Auror training. Hermione stayed to take her eighth year, although you almost never saw her. The rumors floating around the castle claimed that she had special permission from McGonagall to apparate home from Hogsmeade every weekend to take part in Ministry court cases. You didn’t doubt them.
After all, Hermione had helped you for Draco’s court case. During your eighth year winter holiday, she had been one of the key witnesses, and negotiated a fair trial. He got off almost freely, with the promise to never communicate with any other Death Eaters, save for his mother.
Narcissa wasn’t let off so easy. The court case took seven weeks, with the judge offering a verdict of a seven-year house arrest. She took it gracefully, casting a grateful look to you as the Aurors led her out.
“I was thinking,” Draco started one evening. The two of you were in the common room, cuddled up close. His head was on your chest, your fingers weaving through his hair. “After we graduate, we could stay at the manor for the summer.”
A shiver went through you. You knew the stories of the manor.
“Maybe not stay.” Draco said quickly, sitting up. “Visit, at least. Mum’s been going crazy in there.”
“I’ve been meaning to talk to Hermione about moving your mother to a flat. I can’t imagine what it’s like being alone in the manor.” You shook your head. “Especially with all of the cruel things that occurred there.”
“I wish we could have helped her more.” He sighed.
“She made her own choices. Luckily, she wasn’t sworn in as a Death Eater, so it was easier for her defense.” Draco looked down at his own mark.
“Yeah.” He whispered, and you wrapped your arms around him.
“That scar means nothing anymore. It’s okay. Harry and Ron are hunting down the remaining death eaters, and Azkaban is under new supervision. We’re going to be fine.” You said gently.
“Thank you.”
~~~
Two months later, you found yourselves in front of a small house on the beach. You knew that Shell Cottage was only mere meters away from where Narcissa was living, but you merely kept your mouth shut as you brought your suitcases to the front porch.
Narcissa had a house elf named Clara. Clara was able to apparate to buy groceries and other necessities. In letters, she was mentioned frequently. It seemed like the older Malfoy held a soft spot for the house elf.
Draco’s mother greeted you at the door, looking at you carefully as Draco stumbled with your bags.
“Dray, you don’t need to carry them all at once-” You started, trying to help him, but he waved you off.
“A woman like you should never carry such things.” He huffed, finally dropping them.
“And you should never be so blunt.” Narcissa said with a raised eyebrow. “I thought I raised you better than that.”
“My apologies, Mother.” Draco bowed his head.
“Come inside, Clara will get your things.”
The small house elf appeared, her little silk dress swaying just above her feet.
“When you’re done, Clara, make us tea.” Narcissa commanded, although her voice was gentle.
“Yes, Mistress Cissy!” Clara chirped. The three of you walked inside.
The decor was lighter than you expected, but nonetheless grand. A small chandelier hung over the living room that Narcissa guided you into.
“It’s a pleasure, Ms. Malfoy. Thank you for inviting us for the summer.” You said, taking a seat next to Draco on a chaise.
“You must be tired from your journey. Draco, why don’t you clean yourself up? I’d like to have a word with (Y/N) here.”
Draco looked at you. You nodded slightly, giving him a smile. “Go on.” You said, squeezing his hand before he stood up and walked out.
“He’s told me a lot about you.” Narcissa said as Clara appeared with the tea, pouring three cups.
“All good things, I hope.” You smiled feebly, trying to sit straight and not fidget under her gaze.
“Yes.” She nodded. “I always wondered if we were leading Draco on the right path. But you seem to have steered him in the right direction, even if that was away from us.” Her eyes grew sad. She looked down at her tea.
“I didn’t mean t-”
“Thank you for keeping him safe. I know it wasn’t easy on either of you.” Narcissa said in a quiet voice. “You did what I wasn’t strong enough to do.”
“He was the one who chose to be good. I didn’t force it upon him. And I think, given the opportunity…” You were blabbering before you could exercise caution now, “I think you could have chosen that as well, under different circumstances.”
“He told me you were blunt.” She chuckled. “But I’m not sure I can let go of my beliefs or how I was raised. And for that, I am truly sorry.”
“You saved my son. No amount of gold I still have in my possession can repay you.”
The rest of the summer flew by. You made a conscious effort to befriend Narcissa, although there were times you argued back and forth about your beliefs. Eventually, you and Draco slowly started teaching her more, stripping away years of prejudice.
When you left the house, you promised to write as much as possible. And thus, began a long, warm friendship with the elder Malfoy.

Okay so I'd like to share what I commented on this video. I watched it and it sent me into a whole rant about the motives and characterization of Draco. I recommend watching before reading this:
@quinncurio is the original poster
Here's the copy paste of my comment/ Essay. I was slight heated when I wrote this, but my points still stand.
"OH BOY. HI, HELLO I VERY MUCH DISAGREE. ALSO: DISCLAIMER: DONT TAKE THINGS PERSONALLY, YOU WILL FIND I HAVE A VERY LOGICAL EXPLANATION, FOR WHY THIS ANALYSIS DOESN'T WORK.
Calling a Draco a cowardly bigoted bully, and a carbon copy of Dudley is the most SHALLOW and LOW EFFORT CONCLUSION YOU COULD POSSIBLY DRAW. IT IS LOW HANGING FRUIT. I'm going to have to break this into sections to truly explain why your conclusion is soooo incredibly shallow. You may have done your research, but I feel like you learned nothing more about Draco then if you'd never seen more then 5 min. So I'm going to start the same way you have and break this down into the same points.
PART 1 : AN ANALYSIS OF HARRY MEETING DRACO
I'm not going to go into detail of Harry's impression or ideas of Draco, because this analysis is about Draco, Not Harry. Also remember the books were written from Harry's POV, not a neutral party. I'm not obliged to Harry's opinions, just facts. Which brings up the first true conclusion about Draco's character. *Draco Malfoy feels a strong need to impress others, to gain their affection.* He does this through incisive bragging, trying to make people believe he knows best, and tearing down the reputation of others, so the object of his desires sees Draco and the most obvious choice. Where we differ is:
You believe Draco does this, because he thinks, he's better then others.
I believe,(which circumstantially has more evidence), Draco does this because he wants the affection, and acceptance of others
Whether you believe he acts out this way bc of how he is raised, his privilege, or something else, it doesn't change the fact that Draco was truly trying to make a friend, perhaps the only way he knew how.
In noble wizarding society, traditions, and your family does mean a lot. Not even looking at it from a pureblood view, imagine having a family that old and known. They really are a type of nobility, with family Lords even having political seats in the Wizengamote just because of their family name. The Longbottoms and Weaselys hold this same political influence, and it's not tied to Slytherins, pureblood ideals or anything like that. Draco is an only child, and an heir to his family line, so he is going to be treated importantly bc of that. He is raised with that responsibility, and in social situations not only represents himself, but the whole heritage of his family. Draco hasn't had the ability to act like a normal petulant child (part of the reason he tends to act out at Hogwarts.*ie. away from home*). He's been taught to act proper, make good allies, and impress others for the good of his reputation. I'd say most noble wizarding children probably get the same training and lectures, and have their own customs and culture of educate. What may come for Draco as polite, and diplomatic, may sound rude or arrogant to Harry. This is because Draco was not aware how different Harry's upbringing was from his own, and has never dealt with not having enough. Perhaps if Draco knew how different and ignorant Harry was he would have felt pity, or a sense of wrongness at Harry's injustice. Though Draco is just an 11yr old boy, who's only ever had a loving family, and almost anything he wanted. It is difficult for him to relate to the lack of others. As all wizarding children, he probably grew up with the story of the boy who lived and may have even been excited when his father said he wanted them to become friends. He truely was excited to meet Harry and genuinely wanted to be friends. While yes Lucius definitely wanted Draco to befriend Harry to help lighten their family reputation, I also think that Draco, being a child, would more likely be more excited of making a famous friend. Maybe he even had some hope seeing he'd met Harry before when he saw him on the train.
Part 2 : THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN DRACO AND DUDLEY
Draco's sense of superiority comes from his traditions and pride in his family, while Dudley's is strictly from his own greed and selfishness. Draco would't do half of the things Dudley does simply because it's incredibly unclothe, and he has better ways of getting what he wants. Dudley isn't smart enough to compare to Draco. Though Draco and Dudley might both have things handed to them, Draco is not gluttonous or greedy about it. Dudley will trash his gifts and belongings, constantly wanting more, and viewing things given to him as disposable. Draco wants things yes (like every child does) but he's proud of his possessions and cherishes them, brags about them. Dudley is an animal compared to Draco. He doesn't have the same skill, smarts or self control. Dudley is abusive, and a tyrant in his bullying. Dudley wants to see Harry hurt and bleed. He is very violent compared to Draco. While we constantly and repeatedly see Draco shy away from violence, and use more his words.
Part 3 : DRACO'S "HARASSMENT", STRATEGIES AND EVOLUTION.
Draco despite his threats and facade is Not a violent person. This is because despite all Draco's bravo, and cruel words, Draco is kind. Yes he is conflicted, but that is only more proof of his inner kindness. If he didn't feel guilty, he wouldn't feel conflicted. Which means he really doesn't want to be mean to others, but he's just acting out based on how he thinks he's supposed to feel/act, but doesn't really enjoy it. I think when you strip Draco back behind his actions, and pose, you'll find a very different person. The half-blood prince gave us some of that, but it's another thing to see it in Draco from the beginning. Essentially Draco's attempt at bullying started when Harry rejected his friendship. Draco had probably never been rejected before, and probably couldn't possibly fathom why Harry would choose anyone else over him. While yes that's a bit coincided, Draco was also incredibly sheltered and probably wasn't introduced to children who weren't already tied to his family. Harry's rejection irrevocably shattered Draco's confidence and perception, which sent him into literal years of lashing out at Harry for his hurt emotions, and pining for his attention. It is the most pathetic excuse for bullying, and Draco antagonizing Harry is the equivalent of pulling a girl's pigtails. Draco did get quite shrewd with words, but he was really just trying to get the biggest reaction, especially since Harry is so volatile at times. The truth of the matter is Draco is actually very jealous, because deep down he really admires Harry. He want's the same freedom Harry has. He doesn't want to worry about his duty or who he has to be, but to be able to live authentically the way he views that Harry does. Draco really just wants to be more like Harry, but feels he is stuck, by the Dark Lord, his family obligations or anything else. Draco isn't a bully, he's just sad. Not even Ron or Hermione take him seriously after a while. *cough*this is why Drarry is so huge*
Part 4 : He had no choice?????
Everyone has a choice, but I think you over estimate how easy a choice can be. Family is important to Draco, they are probably the only people who love him for who he is, not what they can get out of him. As a child Draco felt pride in his family, and family made him feel special and important. As he got older that pride turn into expectations, and responsibility. Lucius and Narcissa value the preservation of their family above all else. They are protective and loving and those feeling extended to Draco. It's where he gets his kindness. It is indeed a Slytherin trait to value those you care about above everyone else. We protect our own, a loyalty probably stronger then Hufflepuff for those select few a Slytherin deeply cares about. Draco's parent would let the whole world burn to save him, and Draco would do the same for them. While Draco's family did hold pureblood ideals, after the first war Voldemort was not someone they willing wanted to follow. The light sided also would have never offered aid to death eaters, because fundamentally they were still against the dark, and there was no other place for dark wizards to go except Voldemort. Most of the death eaters had actually been somewhat relived at the news of Voldemort's death, and the boy who lived, as Voldemort had already become insane to the point of torturing his own followers, and wasn't getting them anywhere near their goals. Except for the also insane brainwashed few like Bella who'd follow her lord to the grave, many of the death eater's were content to be peaceful and stay quite after the war. Probably even grateful for it, as there were many needless casualties on both sides. I feel like the Malfoys were one of those families that were happy to get out. If the side they are on is harmful or losing, they are ready to abandon ship. This may sound like they are cowardly with no resolve, but if it was the life and death of your family, and your loved ones, I think you might think differently. I feel like we aren't too far off in agreement here, but where we differ is in judgement and motives we feel the Malfoys, or Draco had. Lucius made a mistake in the first war, and spent the second trying to keep his family out of danger. I can't imagine the fear he had in Azkaban for his family, the dementors feeding off him and what he thought the Dark Lord would do to his only son, his wife, his family. Meanwhile Draco was left with the threat of his father rotting in Azkaban, and his mother being killed. His mother also with the thought of her son being killed. So yes Draco could have made a choice, and he did make a choice, a choice to protect his family, and honestly I can't see that as wrong. Maybe if Harry would have actually taken his offer of friendship things could have gone differently and it wouldn't have come to that.
Part 5 : Abuse Theory
I definitely agree with you here. The Malfoys were not abusive, and get a better anthology for racism then something which in fact could be solved with a study on culture rather then blood. If you want a good parallel for racism in HP forget muggleborns, and look at creature blood, not dumb house elfs either, but werewolves, goblins, centaurs beings just as intelligent as wizards. The bigotry towards werewolves especially is horrific, especially from the "light side" who avidly labels them as dangerous dark creatures. *Also note about the scene in Borgen and Berks* Lucius stopped Draco from touching the artifact because it was probably cursed, as many dark artifacts are. Even if you know what you're doing they can be dangerous to handle carelessly. So Lucius was actually very wise and protecting Draco, his 12 yr old son, from getting badly hurt. Why the cane? If touching a cursed object curses you, then its better not to get close with your actual hands. Using his cane to push Draco away was actually a precaution. Lucius is anything but careless,
Part 6: Draco's Wand and Symbolism
I generally agree here too, but I believe this symbolism is more reflective of the things Draco wishes he could have had, or done differently. If anything the wand and symbolism Draco has is representative of the good in him, and not cowardice, or inability to do enough.
Part 7: Redemption
Tbh I'm part of the crowd that would have liked that deleted scene to stay in the final cut. However I understand what's justifiable for one person, may not be enough for someone else. This is where you get more into the topic of morality, and how much are you morally responsible for as a person. Harry has been drilled with the mindset for years that he has to save everyone, and that if your not in it for the greater good, ready to lay down your life you better forget being in it at all. Personally I don't believe Harry has any right to claim that rhetoric, as Dumbledore(and by association Grindlewald) practically spoon fed it down his throat; but I wont talk about that as it's a whole other issue. Draco, you have to understand has a whole type of different morality. Objectively I believe he's a good person, if not pressured by the echo chamber of ideals around him. Yet Draco repeatedly gives signs, and expresses the desire to want to do good. In order to properly analyze Draco you have to look past his outward facade, and actions, or you'll never see him as anything more then he pretends to be. If you can only read plain text, if you can't see past the obvious, you will always have a very flat one dimensional view of a character or a person. To me there's no redemption needed. Draco is already good, more good then his parents, and perhaps more good then some who claim goodness.
In summary Draco is a very complex person, who tries to over compensate for his flaws, struggles to express honesty, but deeply cares for others, especially his family. His duality lies in how he wants to be good to others, yet how in the end he always chooses to save the ones he loves, over the majority. Draco will always have his flaws, but he will always have his goodness too, and I hope you won't disregard that.
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
P.S
Kudos to anyone who read through all that.

SURREPTITIOUS - DRACO MALFOY
CHAPTER THREE: DEFENSE AGAINST THE DARK ARTS
SUMMARY: After getting her schedule, Leslie realizes that exams and essays just might be the least of her worries. WORD COUNT: 2.7k NOTES: Hello! It’s been a century..... whoops. WARNINGS: none!
MASTERLIST
THE NEXT MORNING, FOLLOWING THE feast the night before and catching up with others over breakfast, all the Slytherin six years patiently surround Professor Snape, the Head of Slytherin House, in the Great Hall as he files through their schedules thoroughly. Before the sixth years could be off on their way to class, their schedule had to be confirmed, ensuring they are fit for N.E.W.T.-level courses, considering how miserably difficult each class is.
Some of Leslie's housemates were already on their way, now leaving the young witch with just a few other students, all clad with a serpent emblem and matching emerald-and-silver ties.
"Greyscale," Professor Snape drawls.
The brown eyed girl takes half a step forward. He skims over her desired schedule, along with her O.W.L. scores, taking as much time as the previous students. Meaning, there was a heavy downpour in Leslie's racing thoughts for quite a few moments. Despite the beating of her heart, Leslie passed with high marks on her chosen classes. She was only worried about one in particular.
"Charms, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Potions, and Transfiguration are all fine. I must admit, I was pleased with your Potions mark and to see your continuation."
Despite Leslie's company and social inabilities, the long-time Potions professor (now Defense Against the Dark Arts) had a good standing with the girl. She did her assignments well and always lived up to his unrealistically high standards without complaint. Not many could say the same, so Leslie took his statement as a compliment. While the witch let out a breath of relief, Professor Snape had yet to confirm the last.
"But, I must ask: why the interest in Alchemy?"
Leslie had known her answer for a while. "My mother excelled in the practice, and I have always had an interest." Many years before Leslie was born, her mother had been gaining recognition for her work in the art, the Daily Prophet once even had a column titled "Witches You Should Know" with the mother's name at the top. Eve Greyscale was a talented, intelligent, and kind witch with a life ahead of her, but the world is unkind even to the most gentle of souls.
"Fair enough," the professor replies in understanding.
Professor Snape did not feel the need to question the girl further. After all, last term when she and the professor sat down for the mandatory meeting on what her last two years of Hogwarts should look like, Leslie informed him that she was still mostly uncertain which career path she desired. Perhaps Leslie would continue what legacy was stripped away all those years ago. "Lucky it was offered this term. Be sure you and Mr. Malfoy make Slytherin proud."
The girl could have blanched, but the parchment was held in front of her face, egging her to move and get on with her day. Leslie took the paper from the head of Slytherin House and glanced over to the pale blonde for a split second. As quickly as her eyes shot towards him, she looked away—she had not expected to see the young wizard already staring her down.
Leslie let out a long breath as she begun to head out of the Great Hall. Glancing down at the paper, her eyes absorbed her schedule for her sixth year at Hogwarts:
MONDAY: 10:00-11:00 : Defense Against the Dark Arts 11:00-12:00 : Lunch 13:00-15:00 : Potions
TUESDAY: 13:00-15:00 : Potions 15:30-17:00 : Charms
WEDNESDAY:
THURSDAY:
FRIDAY: 09:00-11:00 : Alchemy 11:00-12:00 : Lunch 13:00-15:00 : Transfiguration
The schedule is almost ideal, happy to see her Wednesdays and Thursdays would be free. Though, Leslie knows the off-days are intended for students to work on the vast amount of assignments. Nonetheless, she feels content.
"Hey, Leslie," a voice calls almost lazily.
Upturning her head, Leslie searches for voice, coming across a ginger boy. A distinct memory of her and different ginger boy, though a couple years her senior, alone and in very close proximity pops into her head and she feverishly tries to calm a blush. However, Ron Weasley spots it and it takes effort on his part to not laugh. Harry is with his friend and no doubt knows about the story in the two's head, having a twitch at the corner of his lips.
Leslie almost wants to run to the Slytherin common room, but instead, she smiles sweetly.
"Harry and I were comparing schedules," Ron informs her. "What's yours looking like?"
"Well, I have a free period now," - to this, Harry and Ron made a unanimous 'us too' - "And after, I have Defense Against the Dark Arts and then Potions later." Once again, the two Gryffindors make the same sound, the group pleased they share the same Monday schedule.
As the comparisons went on, Leslie discovered she also has Charms and Transfiguration with both Harry and Ron. It appeared the only class she had alone, at least so far to her knowledge, was Alchemy. The two Gryffindors made a face when they read the name on her timetable.
"Professor Snape said Malfoy is also in it." With a curl of her lip, Harry and Ron visibly see her lack of comfort in the ordeal. The duo understands all too well, and it only took befriending Leslie a year prior to propel their disdain.
"Malfoy is into that sort of thing?" Ron questions, his brow arched in disbelief. "Huh. I wouldn't have put him as someone interested in anything, except for being a royal git."
Leslie smiles though her eyebrows draw close. "Git or not, he's allowed to have interests. He's still a human, you know."
Ron scoffs, glaring at the platinum blonde now walking out of the Great Hall. "Hardly," is the ginger's reply which earns a good laugh from Leslie and Harry.
Now that the corridors were beginning to thin, Leslie decided she could afford to go back to the common room to grab more ink, having realize she only snagged a single bottle. "I'll see you in a few," Leslie tells her friends before taking the stretch to the dungeons.
══════════════════
Almost an hour later, Leslie's march ends at a queue leading to the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom. She was nearly late, but luckily, Professor Snape is very punctual about when to let students inside his classroom, leaving them all to wait outside until 10 o'clock exactly.
She just reaches the end of the line when the door is swung open, revealing the professor.
"Inside," is all he says.
Leslie did not miss Ron's bright hair and while she would have chose to sit next him and his friends, Professor Snape made it a habit to sort his students by House. So, Leslie took to one side as the other houses took to another. The Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws took the front while the house of serpents and lions took the back.
Unfortunately, due to Leslie arriving last, the very back row had the only available seating. And what made things worse was who sat in the spot next to the last stool.
Despite her glancing around, there was no other option but for Leslie to sit next to the blonde Draco Malfoy, not having realized (nor is she surprised) he was in the queue for the Dark Arts class. It appears his lap dog Pansy Parkinson and his goons did not pass or choose to take a N.E.W.T. level Defense Against the Dark Arts, otherwise he'd have his own posse to take up the remaining seats. For once, Leslie is upset she and the Parkinson girl do not share a course.
What had happened on the train did not falter in retellings. She felt almost thankful Malfoy created a distraction for her head, that much she will admit, but a giant part nagging at her was the fact that it simply was Malfoy who triggered the silence. She doesn't know whether her bumping shoulders was just a break in the wiring or if his presence meant something else. Leslie also was not wanting to find out. Not to mention, the ordeal made Leslie uncomfortable with their history considered.
"You are the worst person I have ever met, Draco!"
"If you would just listen to me, instead of acting crazy—!"
The witch blinks away a fight from last term and, ever so reluctantly, Leslie lowers herself on Malfoy's left, keeping her eyes far from his figure as a scar across her right hand replays a story. She sets her bag down, knowing Snape will use the first few minutes as an introduction to the course.
Leslie waits for a remark, something cruel to come out of the boy's mouth. But nothing of the such passes his lips. Instead, she finally notices his eyes are angled at her hand that was fiddling with the quill on her desk. Faster than a Golden Snitch, she redacts her arm under the table.
It was only then did Leslie notice how Professor Snape turned the old classroom into something of his own— truly his own. The atmosphere is heavy and gloomy, curtains pulled over the windows and the only source of light comes from lit candles. There were pictures, too, that rose goosebumps on Leslie's arms; they all depict what she assumes is the aftermath of evil curses and dark magic.
"I wish to speak to you, and I want your fullest attention."
Every wandering gaze fell upon the Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor.
"You have had five teachers in this subject so far, I believe. Naturally, these teachers will all have had their own methods and priorities. Given this confusion, I am surprised so many of you scraped an O.W.L. in this subject. I shall be even more surprised if all of you manage to keep up with the N.E.W.T. work, which will be more advanced." The statement did nothing to calm the nerves of each student. They all went in knowing the difficulties of N.E.W.T. classes, but the reminder from the monotone professor makes everything more real.
"The Dark Arts," Professor Snape continues having rounded the edge of the room towards the gruesome photos, "are many, varied, ever-changing, and eternal. Fighting them is like fighting a many-headed monster, which, each time a neck is severed, sprouts a head even fiercer and cleverer than before. You are fighting that which is unfixed, mutating, indestructible. Your defenses must therefore be as flexible and inventive as the arts you seek to undo. These pictures give a fair representation of what happens to those who suffer, for instance, the Cruciatus Curse" - all eyes absorb the sight of a witch shrieking an agony - "feel the Dementor's Kiss" - then a wizard with sunken, lifeless eyes huddled in a corner - "or provoke the aggression of the Inferius" - finally, a bloody mass.
"Has an Inferius been seen, then?" Parvati Patil asks. "Is it definite? Is he using them?"
The mere concept of an Inferius makes Leslie shudder. To reincarnate the dead to do one's bidding is far too disturbing for her to stomach.
Professor Snape's eyes shows he did not appreciate the interruption. "The Dark Lord has used Inferi in the past which means you would be well-advised to assume he might use them again. Now, you are, I believe, complete novices in the use of nonverbal spells. What is the advantage of a nonverbal spell?"
It was an answer every student knew, but Hermione Granger shot her hand up anyways. Leslie had to bite back the humored smile as the professor surveyed the rest of the classroom, hoping for another hand to raise. But no one wanted to deflate Hermione's ego.
"Very well. Ms. Granger?"
"Your adversary has no warning about what kind of magic you're about to perform which gives you a split-second advantage," says the Gryffindor.
"An answer copied almost word for word from The Standard Book of Spells, Grade Six..." Professor Snape says dismissively. Next to Leslie, she hears Malfoy snicker, leading the girl to roll her eyes, a small huff escaping her.
The boy shoots his eyes to the left, eyeing down and smirking at Leslie. "I see the summer did nothing to kill that newfound feistiness. I almost miss the old you."
"And I missed it when you weren't speaking."
Dark brown irises roll once more to glare at silver grays, though the later holds a mischievous glint. Malfoy makes an exhale, the sound of a laugh being hidden. Leslie knows he is trying to get under her skin. Part of her feels it working, the other part truly just wants the boy to shut up. "Those Gryffindors really did a number on you. Especially that one twin—"
Before Leslie can retort, a voice comes from the front of the classroom. "If your conversations during my lecture are so important, Mr. Malfoy and Ms. Greyscale, perhaps a free period would be better suited."
Eyes from all around shoot towards the pair in the back. Leslie notices Ron give her a sympathetic smile. "Sorry, Professor," Leslie utters, as Malfoy was too busy smiling to himself.
The rest of Professor Snape's lecture was simply instructions on how to cast a non-verbal spell. Luckily, Leslie was already halfway to success, having learned how to perform a Shield Charm thanks to D.A. last year. However, they never learned how to cast it without using words. Leslie felt her nerves kick in even with her professor preparing them with the essential steps.
"You will now work with the person next to you. One partner will attempt to jinx the other without speaking. The other will attempt to repel the jinx in equal silence."
Oh, how lovely, Leslie thinks bitterly.
The back of the classroom held a wide space, wide enough for each pair to have room to practice standing up. Malfoy stood before Leslie when Professor Snape sent them off on their way. Leslie suppresses a groan when she pushes her stool back.
From behind her, she hears Harry whisper, "Good luck. If he does anything stupid..."
Leslie tosses a reassuring smile to the boy. "I'm sure I'll be fine, but thanks."
Malfoy already stands waiting with his wand out as Leslie approaches. There's a sly smirk on his face. It makes Leslie uncomfortable: does he thrive on making her queasy? "I'll go first."
"Go figure," Leslie replies wandering a few paces away. A few feet from the Slytherins, two Gryffindor boys named Dean Thomas and Seamus Finnigan were paired to spar but only stood glaring at the blonde boy. Both boys made the assumption Malfoy was going to put Leslie in the hospital wing. Unbeknownst to them, however, the gift that allows her to know their very thoughts will aid her during the exercise, avoiding whatever the reason was behind Malfoy's smirk.
It took a matter of five minutes before Malfoy's smirk fell clean off his face. Much like the rest of the students, he had grown frustrated by the lack of progress. Leslie was gaining some improvement, but of course Hermione had seemingly mastered the skill before anyone else. Her efforts should have given Gryffindor at least 20 House Points, but all Professor Snape was interested in regarding that house was taking points away.
"Excellent progress," Snape tells the Slytherins. "But be more demanding, Greyscale. It is not your strong suit obviously, but defending yourself against Dark Wizards require it."
"Yes, thank you, Professor," Leslie responds as her professor and Malfoy share a brief moment of eye contact.
Malfoy twirls his wand and then goes still once Professor Snape moves on. "Try screaming the spell in your head. It's slowly working for me so far."
Leslie's eyebrow raises. Truthfully, the advice would have made her laugh if anyone would have given it to her. But she's stubborn, and not ready for Malfoy to earn her praise. "I didn't ask for your help."
He shrugs. "Yeah, well, the sooner we get this over with, the sooner we can go back to hating each other."
"I've always hated you." Her eyes narrow but it's a lie, and Malfoy knows that well.
The same sly smirk fell upon his face once more. "That's not how I remember things."
Malfoy would regret his advice a second later as he flies backwards, not yet ready to block the spell from Leslie's wand.
"Powerful, and effective. Twenty points to Slytherin," Professor Snape announces as Leslie wears the proud smirk Malfoy once had.

Morality and Motivation part 2
See, I wonder what let James and Sirius have empathy for Remus and not Severus. Not later down the road, not after they’d fought and established a rivalry. I mean from the beginning. Why do they choose a werewolf? Why does Sirius hate the Dark Arts? Why does James? (I think those started out as very different reasons) Conversely? Why does Harry befriend a blood traitor? I don’t think the answer is “they are lovers of fairness who fight prejudice wherever they see it.” Let’s contrast the train scene from the Marauders’ era with Harry’s era:
We know what happened for Harry: He’d gone from a position of being bullied constantly and only wearing only cast-off clothes, only to be shown kindness and protection from Hagrid. He meets someone who reminds him of his cousin, whose words and impression say 'I’m better than other people. I have more stuff than them. There is such a thing as “trash,” and I don’t think they should be allowed to go to Hogwarts.’ Who does that sound like to him? I don’t want to downplay the power of Harry’s empathy and kindness. But at the same time, Draco’s words characterize him as someone like Dudley, and his recent elevation of status to a high-ranking wizard of fame, class breeding, and wealth, is new. Those are three things he never protecting him while growing up. Harry didn’t forget that. So who didn’t talk down to him or make him feel inferior for not knowing anything? Ron. When Malfoy insulted Ron, who was he unknowingly insulting? Harry. Malfoy didn’t know about Harry’s upbringing, and didn’t know how arrogant he came off. He was probably raised to think of arrogance as desirable (something we still see in society today).
This isn’t an excuse. But Harry didn’t just defy injustice based on abstract terms. There were personal motivations because he knew what it was like to be on the bottom.
Snape was switching worlds just like Harry, but unlike Harry, he didn’t suddenly inherit fame and fortune. He wanted everything to be magically better. He wanted to go to his mother’s house. He probably saw Hogwarts as a place to escape his upbringing (and we know there was likely bullying from the way Petunia reacts to him.) The text implies Snape’s of low social class and standing. Petunia was not even willing to be friends with him because of his class background. He’s looking for the group that will accept him and bring him out of that ignominy. 11-year-old Snape also has the prejudice of his upbringing (Gryffindor means brawn over brains). Who is he going to reject? (Trick question, he’s never considered worthy enough to be extended a handshake in this scene, unlike Harry)
So why did James and Sirius accept Remus and not Snape? (This will be less about why they accepted Remus and more on why they rejected Snape)
This is harder since we don’t have much text to go off of. Sirius was a rebel: did he befriend James as an act of familial defiance? Was it because James initiated it? It was clearly James first and not Remus. James even had the advantage of being a rich pureblood, but one opposed to Black ideology. I don’t think any stance he took was purely for moral reasons. Personally, I think James and Sirius got along swimmingly from the moment they met. They had a similar sense of humor, and Sirius wouldn’t have offended James’ sensibilities because he clearly wasn’t in love with his family mentality. Snape said he wanted to go to Slytherin. Was that why Sirius hated him? I see Sirius as initiating the Snape rivalry: Snape seemed like his family, someone who was into the Dark Arts and blood purity and whatever else.
(As an aside, why do people take Hagrid’s words with a grain of salt—Hufflepuffs are a load of duffers, every wizard who went bad was in Slytherin, etc—but not Sirius’? We’re taking his word for a lot of the bad stuff Snape did at school. What does being knee deep in the dark arts mean? )
When discussing his reasons for disliking Severus, Sirius doesn’t call him a bully or anything like that to justify his actions. He calls him “the little oddball.” I know Snape was involved in unsavory magic by the time he finished high school, and I know he wasn’t some misunderstood angel. He probably hurt people too. (Though not enough for Lily to use it against him after he’d insulted her. You’d think she’d use her strongest ammo there, but him hurting other people isn’t mentioned. Only that he uses racial slurs. Still a horrible thing, don’t get me wrong. But he’s not just jinxing people left and right, at least not where she can see). But Sirius’ use of phrase suggests that his dislike wasn’t from Snape, the bully. That’s only how we see him after he gets power, as a teacher.
It’s because of Snape the oddball. “It’s more of the fact that he exists.” He’s weird, thinks Slytherin is good—which means he’s like my family. He thinks he’s better than everyone. He’s just as crazy as all of them. But Sirius also doesn’t treat him like an equal—note how Draco and Harry refer to each other as Malfoy and Potter, as equals, even if they’re rivals. What does Sirius call Snape? The little oddball. Snivellus. He’s not only mocking, but dismissive. Sirius is a pretty open-minded guy on some fronts, but his upbringing stays with him—some people, whether by actions or birth, are inherently lesser. He’s the one who mentions you can judge someone by how they treat their lessers, but who does he consider his lesser? I can name two, Kreature and Snape. Don’t get me wrong—there are valid reasons he detests them. But the way Harry treats his enemies and lessers is different. He still treats them with respect, though. Even Lockhart. (Harry doesn’t really see people as lesser, for one thing, though he doesn’t exactly see Dobby or Colin as equals until later. He seems to categorize the world by friendship-familial distance to him rather than in a hierarchy).
On top of that, Severus has an air of someone who’s “passing,” trying to move his way up when he wasn’t born with what he needed to do so naturally. There’s a trope of the greasy little follower who doesn’t have the right or privilege to be on top, but is always kissing up to power. Wormtail comes to mind from the series (I think the primary example is Gríma Wormtongue). Snape’s not only subscribing to Sirius’ family political stance, but he’s a poser as well, and seems weak. This is confirmed when Lily’s the one who stands up and leaves. (Yes, I think Sirius would know “Snape” is not an old wizarding name, and yes, I do think he’s capable of simultaneously rejecting his family while assuming some of their prejudices, an yes, I do think 11-year-old Sirius in the 70s would think a girl standing up for you when you couldn’t defend yourself made you weak).
As for Lupin, he has none of that coding. I do think James was raised to be kind to people, and to be accepting. I would love to know more about why he lacks the wizard prejudice against werewolves. I also want to know what Remus brought to the table: He’s not a prankster, and seems quiet enough. What was their “mountain troll moment?”
I think it’s common to love your friends and hate your enemies, and to see the harm that befalls your friends as unfair but what befalls your enemies as just punishment. Harry sees Draco like that. Heck, I felt that way about Snape the first time I read PoA when he didn’t get Order of Merlin.

Number 12 please!! For the prompt thingy x
Thank you for the prompt ❤️
Drarry + 12: Roommates AU (omg they were roommates)
This is how it goes: Ron and Hermione are together, Neville and Hannah are together, Luna and that guy Rolf are together, Ginny and Cho are together—which is just hilarious, honestly, Harry finds it simply hysterical— and now they’ve got their sharp little eye on Harry.
This is how it goes: Pansy and Anthony are together, Greg and Millie are together, Daphne and Theo are together, Blaise and that older girl are together —Draco isn’t even sure she exists, he thinks it might just be Blaise’s reflection in drag— and now they’ve got their sharp little eye on Draco.
And well, thanks, but NO thanks. Friday night drinks are already damn uncomfortable when everybody is getting cozy with their partner and Harry and Draco end up pressed together at the end of the booth, trying to pretend that their, dare I call it friendship —more like past enmity that they shoved underneath the rug when their friends suddenly befriended each other— isn’t awkward as fuuuuck. (“So, uh, you opened a bookstore. That going well?” “Yes. Heard you left the Aurors to write memoirs. That going well?” “Sure is.”) They don’t need the added stress of their friends wanting to send them on blind dates with randos.
Yeah. Yeah. Thanks, but NO thanks.
This is how it goes: their friends confess they hate seeing them lonely, they hate knowing that each of them goes home at the end of the day to an empty bed, they’re 30, and are they really going to spend their sexiest years alone?
This is how it goes: Draco has just opened a bookstore and, coincidentally, Harry lives across the street from it. It’s not like they’re friends, but their friends are friends, and so Harry invites him to his flat for a drink one night after Draco closes the shop. It’s not so bad. It’s easier to talk to each other when they don’t have to yell over pub music —there’s only so many things you can talk about while Britney sings Toxic— and, actually, they sort of have a lot in common? They work with words, they love that cheap white rum they sell in corner shops, and they went through some pretty dense stuff as teenagers. And their friends are being unbearable about setting them up.
Pfft. They’re mental. I’m not lonely! I’m happy living here, and I have a cat.
I’m not lonely either! Sure, the Manor is a little big for me these days, and it takes a long floo jump to get to work every morning, but it’s not so bad.
And anyway, we don’t even need to be dating someone to not be lonely. That’s the whole point of having friends.
Definitely. And platonic roommates exist.
Roommates!!! A friend you live with. Not an empty home! Not an empty … — Malfoy. Malfoy I have an idea.
And so, there’s a contract that goes like this: they can never (underlined and circled in red) eat each other’s food, use each other’s shampoo or shaving cream —Not like you need it for that peach fuzz, Malfoy— let their one-night stands stay for breakfast, have sex in communal areas, skip the chores marked on the calendar pinned to the fridge and, especially, let their friends forget about the fact that they’re not living alone anymore.
Boy does it backfire.
Harry uses Draco’s shampoo. Draco uses Harry’s shaving cream for the two hairs on his chin. Harry eats Draco’s quail eggs. Draco eats Harry’s shakshouka. Draco begins to wear soft jumpers that belong to Harry around the house. Harry steals Draco’s shirts when he has to meet a potential agent. Each of their sex dates sometimes stay way, way past breakfast —Draco, I have to do my yoga in half an hour, tell that dude to fucking leave already— way, way past the afternoon —Harry, I swear if this girl isn’t out of the house by the time I come back from the bookshop, I will have your head.
They fight. They fight so much. It’s “I told you not to use my shampoo!” at night and “There’s no shaving cream left. Why the fuck is there no shaving cream left” in the morning. It’s “I told you I was taking this lunch to work and you ate it anyway, do you even listen to me when I talk to you?” and “I was gonna bring curry to Ron and Hermione’s, but you and your stupid fuck friend ate all of it.”
They fight everyday, it’s so exhausting, every single day — except for Mondays, that is. Mondays are sacred. On Mondays their friends visit, and Harry and Draco are the perfect flatmates, the perfect friends, they are happier than ever, guys, can you believe how happy they are? Until the others leave, of course, but by then it’s usually past midnight and does it even count as Monday anymore? Nope, I don’t think so.
This is how it goes: one morning, on the very long walk Draco takes across the street to work, he is hit by a stray curse. Yeah, I know, right? That is so weird, that there was someone throwing curses at random at 9am on a Wednesday. That is so weird, that it hit a guy who used to be a Death Eater. Such a coincidence.
He ends up in Mungo’s. They reconstruct all of his thoracic vertebrae and tell him not to leave his bed for four weeks until he adjusts, and then to start walking little by little. He might have a limp forever, they say. He might have back pain forever, they say. He might have died if he hadn’t gotten to the hospital on time, they say.
Four weeks in bed are kind of a lot, especially for someone who lives on his own and has to do everything for himself, except Draco is not such a person, and he does have someone to help him at home. And Harry takes on that role the way he does everything in his life: taking the bull by the horns. He cleans the flat and does their laundry, he cooks for Draco and spoon-feeds him, he sits next to him for hours watching the cartoons and Mexican telenovelas Draco enjoys —“How do you even like these? They all have the same plot line and Teresa is kind of a really bad person” “Excuse you? Teresa is my role model. I don’t expect a brute like you to understand”— he helps him get to the toilet —“Merlin, this is so embarrassing” “You have nothing I haven’t seen, Malfoy, get on with it”— he sponge-bathes him and dresses and undresses him. He holds his arm when he begins to walk again. He goes with him the first time he’s back to the bookstore.
He writes about him, when he has time to sit in front of his typewriter again.
He thinks about him when he goes out one night after Pansy visits them and —You’ve been helping him non-stop for five weeks. You need to go out and relax! I’ll look after him tonight— He thinks about him as he apparates to the club, as he dances with a dark haired man, as he makes out with him out back, as they kiss and Will you take me home? He thinks about him when he says no.
The thing is. The thing is, their fights are not really that serious. The thing is, sometimes their arguments end up with them doubled over laughing because of some insult Draco came up with and It’s fine, it’s fine, I’ll cook some more and I’ll pack it so you can take it to the bookstore tomorrow for lunch. The thing is, it becomes increasingly easier to behave on Mondays, and, without noticing, they’ve began to develop some other routines too. Pancake Thursday, post-Friday-night-drinks Monopoly —every time, Draco cheats every time— Sunday night Quidditch sitting in front of the TV and eating their weight in fish and chips, Draco sitting Harry down and taming his hair and choosing one of his own shirts to give to him before he meets a potential agent, a consultant, a representative of a publishing house. Harry folding one of his own jumpers after laundry day and putting it in Draco’s closet.
Harry goes back home that night having had a realization. He says goodbye to Pansy —Harry, you look as though you’ve seen a ghost— and stares at his ceiling for hours before being able to sleep.
The next morning, he makes Draco’s favorite breakfast and tries to recall when exactly he learned it was his favorite and when it became his go-to when he’s cooking in the mornings and whether those two things are related. Draco comes out of his own room in boxers and one of Harry’s t-shirts on slightly unsteady feet but refusing Harry’s arm when —No, no, I need to walk on my own or I’ll never get better— and he makes coffee for Harry and tea for himself and Harry wonders when this became routine, too, having breakfast together in each other’s clothes, that they use as pajamas.
He wonders when he started packing Draco’s lunch in the mornings; when Draco started buying his favorite brand of shaving cream so he wouldn’t run out; when they started hanging out together at night, sitting on their couch, reading, watching TV, gossiping about their friends; when he started going to the bookstore, his typewriter in his arms, to sit by Draco as they both work.
He wonders when they stopped bringing people to have sex with.
It’s at that point that he freaks out and immediately calls Laia, his fuckbuddy.
And it happens like this: it’s raining, because of course it is, and Draco throws a fit outside the bookstore, pretending to be mad about something when really, he’s just hurt Harry called Laia again.
It’s never been easy between them, has it? Of course it comes out in the middle of an argument, in the middle of the night, standing right in the middle of the street, drenched from head to toe. Of course that’s when it comes out.
Why are you acting like this?! It’s like you’re jealous or something.
Well, no shit! I’m jealous as fuck! What did you think!
Oh.
Oh.
Well, honestly, it’s not like Harry didn’t know. It’s not like he wasn’t hoping this sex date would make Draco jealous or, at least, let Harry forget about the inconvenient feelings he’s found buried in his belly.
He grins, and —Are you smiling right now? Merlin help me, Merlin help me, I hate you so much, I hate you so—
Kisses in the rain are a thing of fairy tales. A thing of romcoms. In reality, they’re inconvenient, a little disgusting, hair sticking to faces and necks and water making the slide of lips uncomfortable but. But. It doesn’t even matter.
It’s never been easy between them. But it doesn’t matter.
This is how it goes: a full-sized bed is traded for a queen-sized one, Harry’s room becomes their room, Draco’s room becomes their study. Their toothbrushes sit together in one vase. Draco uses Harry’s shaving cream and Harry uses Draco’s shampoo. They cook together, they cook for each other, they cook and they dance while they cook, they cook and they stop for a kiss. Their wardrobes blend together.
And as for sex dates. They won’t be needing any of those. This is the new contract. Underlined and circled in red three times.
And so!!!! That’s how I would write this trope (which is one of my absolute FAVORITES)
SEND ME TWO TROPES AND I’LL TELL YOU HOW I’D WRITE THEM

HP x Good Omens crossover part 1
So I've been talking with one of my friends and somehow this came up. And yes I needed to split this up, because it's way too long already
So the demons bring up the Antichrist, and it's the early hours of 1st of August, and every witch and wizard can feel his power
Voldemort was planning to attack the Potters on Halloween, because it's an important day full with dark magic, but then there is this power and the Potter kid just turned a year and one day old, and that's an important milestone too
So he attacks, and everything is the same just a few months early, the Potters die, and Harry lives because of his mother's sacrifice and he is taken to live with his aunt
And Crowley? He is late. He is late, stuck between two traffic jams so he only arrives to the cemetery an hour later
He takes the Antichrist, receives his instructions, and decides he needs a little time to calm down, so he steers the car towards Surrey, it's okay, because both Harriet and Dierdre are having a hard time, so everything is in order, he knows he has time
He arrives to the privet drive just as the wizards apparete away, and he is driving so slow, because there is the most important baby in the universe on his backseat, he can't have an accident now!
That's why he sees the baby sleeping front of the door, and he is a demon and he can't imagine how cruel you can be to leave a kid out for the night
So before he has time to think he is out of the car and grabbing the kid, and knocking on the door
The people living there are cruel and soon enough he miracles them only knowing that Crowley took the kid, they will say this with such stubbornness that no one will ask questions about it
He knows this, a little one isn't the first baby he ever took, he have been stealing them from heaven since Noah, this is so much easier
He takes Harry, and now he has to hurry because the Antichrist is a ticking time bomb and it needs to be delivered
He hands it over to the delighted nun and oh, she is right, it's cute, he is cute, and suddenly he is stuck with the overwhelming desire to stop all this, the world ending, the baby swapping, he just wants to live his live on earth like he always did
And... He has been stealing children from heaven for thousands of years now, he just took one from humans, so maybe it's time to take one of hell's too
When he decided it's so easy, few possession and memory alterations and now everyone thinks it's done, but actually all the kids are with their birth parents
He takes the Antichrist, telling the nuns he is the third baby, and that he will take care of him
When Aziraphale opens his door and finds Crowley there he can't find his voice at first, at least until Crowley starts to ramble
"Angel, I took the Antichrist! What do I do?" " I can see that dear, but where did the other child come from?"
They read Dumbledore's letter, and they decide, that London is far too chaotic and dangerous to raise both the Antichrist (who after some consideration is named Adam), and some kind of wizarding saviour (they didn't know there was an entire community, but they both decide it's the best not to get involved)
They go to live in Taddfield
There is an elaborate story, how Harry is Crowley's sisters child, but his parents died in an unfortunate accident, and he gets to live with them, and how they just adopted a baby themselves, so they need a calm place
Everyone believes them
And here is the thing, it's hard, raising two kids, but at least magic involved, they don't need to hide themselves with the boys
Harry and Adam are aware who the two of them are, they know who they supposed to be, but it's stressed both by Crowley and Aziraphale that they can choose something else. They are human after all
So they grow, they learn, they make friends (the Them are aware the two boys are magic, they don't really care), and they love each other and this tiny little village, where Aziraphale works in the local library, and Crowley opens a flower shop of all things
Everyone in the family speaks parseltongue
Crowley is a snake, so really it's his first language, Aziraphale can talk to every animal, Harry's dad's ancestors came from India, and Adam can do whatever he wants, reality is his playground after all
Years pass, and suddenly it's Harry's eleventh birthday and with it comes a letter and a long breaded wizard with the ugliest robe ever (Aziraphale loves it of course)
Dumbledore never gives out acceptance letters personally, at least not anymore, but Harry Potter have been missing for a decade now, and all they could figure out some guy Crowley took him (Petunia doesn't tell him anything more, but her voice implied familiarity)
At least the house is warded, and he thinks it's a blood ward, like around the Dursley's house or something similar, it's based on love and family at least, so his very first thought he has when a red head opens the door is 'I thought Lily had only one sibling'
He doesn't ask, but resolves to talk to Severus later, the man must know something
He gives the boy the letter, and there is a cluster of children surrounding him (the Them know everything of course), while he explains what needs to be done, he goes back to Hogwarts slightly dazed and completely confused
They go to the Diagon Alley, and they end up buying a snake and an owl, Crowley doesn't like it that he is no longer the kids' favorite snake
They meet Draco Malfoy too, and it's similar, but not the same because now Harry has parents and a brother and friends, and he is loved so much it hurts sometimes
And Draco is flabbergasted, because there is this boy who says everyone in his family is magical, but had zero idea how things actually work, they leave before he can find out anything else
Harry gets his wand, and Olivander is weirded out which is an entirely new feeling for him, he is used to be at the other end of this
Slowly September the 1st comes and the family leaves for the King Cross
They don't meet with the kind redhead family, but Ron finds a way into Harry's compartment anyway
They become friends, but this time Harry read about Slytherin, and he tells his new friend, that he doesn't think it matters how different they are as long as they love each other (and that's a lesson both Crowley and Aziraphale learned the hard way, they won't let their kids suffer through it)
Malfoy and Hermione both come at one point, and the four of them start to argue about different kinds of magic, and apparently Hermione heard about Agnes Nutter
Time flies and the train ride is over much sooner than they thought it would be
Harry goes to Slytherin with Draco, Ron and Hermione goes to the lion's den, both Dumbledore and Snape are dumbstruck
The first thing the gang does is asking after Agnes's book, Madam Pince almost faints when two 11 year old ask about the rarest and most wanted book, also she doesn't have it
Between shocking teachers, befriending three head dogs (they say a Cerberus stands front of the gates of hell, his brother is the Antichrist, he is sure it won't harm him) and solving mysteries the year passes
Harry and his friends still end up going after the stone, and Harry still faces Quirellmort alone, but his first reaction this time isn't fear but "Wow you are really bad at possession aren't you?"
Voldemort was expecting many things, that wasn't one of them
Harry still kills his professor, only this time one touch is enough for them to turn to dust. Blood magic fused with mother's love is powerful, but Harry is loved by an angel and a demon and the Antichrist, heaven, hell and humanity
When he wakes up it's to the news that the Flamel are going to die, Harry's magic fused with love destroyed everything in the room but him, it would take a miracle to make another stone before their end. Harry is sure he can arrange that
Slytherin wins the house cup, and Dumbledore still gives the lions a shit ton of points, they end up second
Harry goes home with promises that they write each other and the apocalypse just around the corner, he is sure it will be resolved just in time
And I'm stopping now because holy shit this is long so as I said I will add a second part. That will be about the Armageddon't and Flamels and the second year at Hogwarts with the Them
(also Voldemort ends up with the Crowley-Fell family, but again that's the second part)

Honestly, I had a friend backstab me the same way Ron backstabs Harry not once but twice. I simply cannot get behind him as a character I don't see him loyal at all. He wasn't in Hufflepuff for a reason. He's loud, lazy, and only good at chess even in the books. He puts no effort into school, complains about everything, and can't even pull his head from his ass. It baffles me that people actually like him when he's got like 3 moments where he isn't a douche.
Okay, first of all, Ron didn’t ‘backstab’ Harry in GOF. He thought Harry had gone behind his back and entered the tournament without him. During the run-up to the tournament, Ron had made it clear that he wanted the two of them to enter together. To Ron, a character who is fiercely loyal, even the thought that Harry would want to hide something from him was devastating.
He also didn’t ‘backstab’ Harry in DH. He was anaemic, ill, and malnourished, as well as having a part of Mouldy-warts soul round his neck. The Horcrux played up some of Ron’s worst fears (that he was just a hanger-on, that Harry didn’t care about him, that Hermione preferred Harry to him) to try and break up the trio. Because it knew that Ron was the binding force within the group; the glue that held them together. If Ron fell, the trio would fall too, and Voldemort would never be defeated. Ron also has a sensitivity for emotional magic; being the first of the trio to realise the horcrux was sort-of alive, as well as having a hunch about the taboo on Voldemort’s name that Harry and Hermione didn’t take into consideration (heck, the only reason they didn’t say his name before they found out was because Ron kept urging them not to, resulting in Harry and Hermione developing a habit of saying ‘you-know-who’ and therefore not getting caught whilst Ron was away).
Second, the reason Ron wasn’t in Hufflepuff was because his defining trait was his bravery. Ron is fiercely loyal, yes, but he was also brave, intelligent and resourceful. He was a Gryffindor through-and-through.
Thirdly, Ron is far more than those traits you stated. Yes, he is loud, but he’s also funny, witty and quick-minded. He isn’t lazy; he’s a teenage boy who didn’t enjoy studying and wanted to spent time doing the things he loved (very much like Harry, who- need I remind you- got the exact same OWL grades as Ron except for their Defence grade. Which Ron still exceeded expectations on).
Ron is good at many things outside of chess. He was a brilliant keeper in Quidditch (despite Draco Malfoy writing an abusive song designed to mock Ron during matches), a great strategist, a sociable person able to get along with many different people, and able to stop Harry and Hermione getting lost in their own heads. And since when is being good at chess a bad thing? He beats a chess-set designed to beat adult wizards at the age of the twelve, whilst working with a handicap (making sure Harry and Hermione weren’t taken), and then sacrificing himself for his friends, showing his bravery once again. Ron is a chess-master, which also disproves the point about him being unintelligent.
Ron did take his school-work seriously. Like I said before, he passed all of his OWL excepting History of Magic (a subject taught by a teacher who bored everyone except Hermione) and Divination (again, taught by a teacher that was iffy at best). He exceeded expectations in Charms, Transfiguration, Potions, Herbology, Defence Against the Dark Arts, and Care of Magical Creatures, as well as passing in Astronomy. He got the EXACT same grades as Harry (who also shared his disinterest in studying) except for the subject that Harry had a special talent for (and Ron still exceeded expectations for that subject, regardless). Ron is no slouch, academic wise.
‘Complains about everything’? I guessing you mean when he was making a point about Harry not knowing what he was doing in DH. Which (as I already mentioned) was when Ron was anaemic, malnourished and under the influence of a piece of Voldemort's’ soul.
‘Can’t pull his head out of his a**’? For goodness’ sake, Ron hardly ever ignores the problems going on around him. Aside from the Lavender situation in HBP (which he delayed because he didn’t want to hurt the poor girls’ feelings), Ron was often the one trying to resolve arguments with the people around him. During the entire series, he is almost always the bigger person, apologising and trying to resolve arguments even if they weren’t his fault to begin with.
Ron NEVER gets apologised to by anyone in the series (even if the other person was the one at fault). Aside from Hermione apologising in POA about Ron’s rat, he never gets a proper apology from anyone. He, throughout all seven books, is the one who has to shred what little pride he has, give ground to other people, and resolve the situation.
‘It baffles me that people actually like him when he's got like 3 moments where he isn't a douche.’
You really think he hasso few amazing moments? You’re about to get schooled, I’m afraid. Ron has SOmany amazing moments.
Befriends Harry almostimmediately after meeting him. Tries to cheer Harry after he worries about notbeing good enough for Hogwarts. Gives Harry lots of insider-info about thewizarding world. Immediately volunteers to be Harry’s second in the duel, andgoes along with him (sneaking out after lights-out to do so). Saves Hermionefrom the mountain troll whilst in a life-threatening situation. Worries aboutHarry’s mental state after Harry starts spending a lot of time staring at theMirror of Erised. Makes sure his mum gets Harry some holiday presents, andstays at Hogwarts with Harry over the break. Is the only one to stand by Harrywhen the entirety of Gryffindor house turns against him. Literally sacrificeshimself in the giant chess game for his friends. Gets fifty points fromDumbledore for said chess game, helping Gryffindor win the house cup.
Rescues Harry from hisabusive relatives after he notices that Harry didn’t respond to Ron’s letters.Has Harry stay over at his house over the summer. Apologises when he realisesthat Harry doesn’t know about Floo Powder. Drives himself and Harry to Hogwartsin a flying car. Defends Hermione after Malfoy calls her a slur; using anon-verbal spell through a wand that didn’t even choose him. Comforts Hermioneafter she gets turned into a cat-like creature, and brings her homework. Goesto defend Ginny after Malfoy embarrasses her in public. Stands by Harry whenmost of the student body think he’s the heir of Slytherin. Is constantlylooking out for and comforting Ginny throughout the year. Goes into theforbidden forest (despite having a phobia of spiders) because it might helpthem de-petrify Hermione. Suggests that he and Harry go to see Lockhart aboutthe chamber of secrets, on the slightest possibility that Ginny might still bealive. Holds his emotions together when he and Lockhart are cut off from Harryby falling rock.
Makes up an alibi toget Harry out of trouble with Professor Snape. Immediately downplays his owngrievances with the Scabbers-Crookshanks situation after Hermione apologies soas to make her feel better. Stands up on a BROKENLEG to defend Harry against a presumed-mass-murderer, proclaiming ‘if you wantto kill Harry, you’ll have to kill us too!’
Rescues Harry from theDursleys (AGAIN). Invites Harry to the Quidditch World Cup. Tries to apologise toHarry for his behaviour (although Harry realises he doesn’t need the apology).Supports Harry 100% during the rest of the tournament. Lets Harry practicestunning spells on him repeatedly inthe run-up to the third task.
Makes it clear that heunderstands Harry’s frustrations, but that it’s not okay to take thosefrustrations out on Ron and Hermione. Won the Quidditch cupfor Gryffindor. Goes with Harry to thedepartment of mysteries. Gets incapacitated whilst defending Luna and Ginnyfrom several death-eaters (all of whom he defeated).
Won the Quidditch cup forGryffindor AGAIN. Defended Hogwartsagainst the death-eaters.
Part of the ‘sevenpotters’ plan. Took down several death-eaters whilst several-hundred-feet-up ona broom. Was worried about theCattermole family after they got away from the ministry. Got away from the snatchersafter they cornered him. Saves Harry’s life.Destroys the horcrux locket after it mentally tortured him with visions of hisown worst fears. Never blames hisleaving on the locket, even though he had every right to. Tries to fight thesnatchers and tells them to ‘get away from’ Hermione. Saves Hermione fromBellatrix Lestrange. Jumps forward when a chandelier comes down on top of her,and pulls her out of the rubble. Disapparates without splinching for the firsttime because he needed to get Hermione to safety. Stops Hermione fromstunning a giant, which could have caused half the castle to be crushed. Volunteered to go tothe shrieking shack to kill the snake in place of Harry. Remembered thehouse-elves when everyone-else had forgotten them (including Hermione). Took down FenrirGreyback with Neville.
(And these are just the ones off the top of my head...)
This is why we like Ron Weasley, anon. Because he was brave, intelligent, funny, witty, kind-hearted, and always come through for his friends.
So, yeah, I don’t agree with you on this, anon. Bye!
