still in utter bafflement that people thought as piasco was unfolding that oscar’s decision to go mclaren, a team that was on the upward trajectory ever since 2018, over renault works team, a known disaster class since pre-historic times, was a dumb move. wym?? people at that time did not have all the info about how alpine absolutely fumbled 2 contracts, on top of otmar controlling the narrative, throwing around words like “loyalty”, it would have still been a better decision, because it gave oscar the opportunity to prove himself against a highly rated driver like lando, instead of pierre whose record is not perfect. hell, had everything that alpine lied about around oscar was correct, meaning that say he was ghosting them after promising to drive, it still was the correct decision 😭

hmm. im not actually sure if i agree w you, because i don't think the difference between renault and mclaren was actually that cut and dry. when daniel moved from renault to mclaren in 2020 ppl called it a sideways move, and for good reason. since id say 2019 at least, mclaren and renault had been in the upper midfield and in direct competition with each other. 2022, the year of the piasco, alpine beat mclaren in the wcc (mostly bc of daniel shitting the absolute bed, but still). the length of time since theyve been successful was kind of equivalent (renault's last wdc is 2006, mclaren's is 2008), and arguably renault hadnt recently had a period of such despairing backmarker incompetence as mclaren had circa 2017 (they're having it now tho, lol. oops). so to anyone looking alpine seemed like a reliable midfielder which had been floating around 5th place in the wcc since like 2017, while mclaren had had the epic highs and lows (of high school football) and was now looking as if it had clearly gotten the new regs all wrong.

THAT SAID. alpine is run by french people. so, you know, that's an important factor to consider

all that considered like. fundamentally oscar DID make the right choice. and not just bc mclaren is a frontrunner big 3 now and alpine has barely gotten any points this year, bc f1 is a game of chance and u never know where any team will actually end up in next year's order. so even ignoring that, oscar made the right choice bc of what he himself has said time and time again - he enjoys and appreciates being wanted. alpine kept him in the attic like that dusty broken air mattress u only bring out when u've got one too many guests for the sleepover. meanwhile, mclaren broke daniel's contract and paid like 20mil partly just so they could secure oscar's seat before anyone else snatched him up. oscar had literally already signed the mcl contract before fernando announced his shock departure. he did not believe his alpine seat was secured or even available at all - there were talks of loaning him to williams or whatever and like out of everyone THATS a team that cant escape its reputation for perpetual floppage lmao. so fundamentally mclaren was in the right to try to secure his contract and oscar was in the right for trying to get out of being the understudy of an old man who doesnt ever seem to want to stop driving.

*i dont actually think lando is a teammate killer, even if he's obviously performing substantially better than oscar up until this point. i think hes unfortunately just a ricciardo-killer lol

Martyn fancies himself a schemer, someone who's not afraid to play the game the way it's intended. If that means earning a powerful ally's trust only to shatter it then he was going to do it. Only, Martyn's bark is worse than his bite, and every night he spends in lying awake in those soft, warm sheets that Ren had laid out just for him (freshly washed too, he might add. Smelled like sunshine) he wonders if he can do it. He can, of course. (he can't. he won't. he's too soft. soft and useless.) He'd cut his head off already. (he wants to vomit) (this is why no one needs you. wants you. loves you) Who cares about other people anyway? He is the only one who really matters. (the thought of being alone makes him want to cry) Ren, on the other hand, is a capable leader. The definition of loyal and dependable, if not a bit dramatic. He struggles with self-worth, being good enough, useful enough, powerful enough. But to others, he's the opposite, caring and protective of any who would ask for his aid. After all, every citizen deserves to live in safety and comfort, and providing that is what a good King would do. ~ Martyn's not as sneaky as he thinks he is. Ren knows. Ren sees the signs. It's a death game for a reason. But he doesn't let Martyn know. He doesn't even hold it against him. He doesn't see the bloodthirst anymore, only the broken pieces lying underneath. ~ or the King's Hand, it was the thrill of feeling Useful, Powerful, Feared (loved). He was going to miss it after he betrayed him, the high of bloodlust, the smell in the air as he charged into battle. (the way his hands held him so gently) For the King himself, deep down he knew it was never to be. He had met a monster, but he hoped his efforts calmed the storm ever so slightly. On some days, he pretends to forget about the death game entirely and imagines the speech he'd give to retire his Hand. "You don't have to fight anymore," he'd say, "I'll take care of you from now on, I promise. So put the sword down, okay?" But in the end, it was all a fantasy, wasn't it?

Also, is cannibalism just- known to exist among Addis but nobody really tries to stop it? Is it more of a hidden thing? i want to write a solid longfic with extensive worldbuilding. it doesnt matter the genre, just solid and rich worldbuilding where the writing stays consistent and steady until the end is already good. but if i could specifiy, i yearn for it to be a canon compliant/canon divergence/canon era fic with a unique take on canon. i want to write canon era fics in general, but im always hesitant to. i know what happens when i fall into a research hole, it fires up my anxiety. and i want to write scifi or a cool space opera. and i want to be able to write novel fic (of tyk) and not want to die during the process. all these things feel impossible to me :]]]]]]]]

i had to think about this for a bit!!!! because my writing style is unfortunately directly connected to my mental stability which is not always. stable. huehe. hmmmm i think my style (given that im doing good!) leans very hard into economical but evocative storytelling; like, i mean the rhythm of oral storytelling. stream of consciousness. prose poetry. poetry slam. i want the words to explode in your mouth and i want it to paint a very clear image in your head. i want people to hear me telling the story! even if the reader (or listener!) cant be there to experience it for themselves, at least i can tell them about it! thats probably because my first experience with story as a concept comes from audio dramas and generally someone reading something to me. thats honestly still the medium i prefer, tbh.

currently i dont write in more than one language, if u dont count non-fictional handwriting bc i write all my notes in my native language. but i still remember how it used to be to write creatively in german. like im always whining about how difficult it is to cast the same image in english as in german; i just dont have that fine motor control over english as i have over german. i can easily switch between gears in german but english still ,, befuddles me pfft. its most noticable when im mucking around drafting and spend more time thinking about fun stuff like correct grammar and correct sentence structure and which word means what in english, than about the story and the characters. it takes so much energy and effort to think about and of all of this, there is barely any space left for the story that im trying to tell. which is def a major drawback for me and one of the reasons that ive been considering to start writing in german again. even though i have uh some baggage there that i dont really want to face. language is so connected to identity and culture. and thats another reason why english is difficult; i know english, aside from school, mostly from usamerican books or from online interactions with usamericans or people talking usamerican. so that has ofc heavily influenced my own english. like, i set all my stories in germany for reasons, but its stupidly hard to draw up the cultural markers because the language itself that im using is already coming with cultural influences from another country. its really strange and confusing, and i would find it fascinating and interesting if it wasnt so frustrating. sometimes it feels like there is a veil between me and what im trying to say, and also as if my thought patterns dont work as they would because the language that should just be a tool to tell a story is already so dominant. thats def smth i hope to change in the future

hmmm. its very earnest. reading my own stuff, even old stuff, i can tell what sort of struggles made it hard to get smth specific onto the page. and sometimes what ends up on the page is not what was supposed to be there in the first place. but its earnest and i can see that. its always the best i can do in that moment, and its always a piece of me because i give so much of myself during the process. thats not always a good thing but its how i am. im glad the earnestness, the sincerity, the love, the faith, the hope, is so visible to the bare eye.

Im french and i needed to vent about something. I watched the finale when it aired in english. I cried and screamed with joy when he said i love you.

But i rewatched in yesterday, and for the first time, in french. I could not wait to hear "je t aime", also because i love the french voice actor who is quite famous here in the "dubbing" world. But i disgress.

So i watched it in french, with my popcorn, ready to hear "je t aime" . Guess what?

They translated it in... "i care about you, you know" and she answered the same.

I am fucking mad.

What were they afraid of?? That we dont consider it platonic enough?? Im curious to know how it went in other languages, if anyone can help....

In one case, you hear abt a mysterious character that viewers will probably meet in the spin off, in the other case it means nothing special. Please correct me if im wrong now i have doubts. It was a HE right?? In english

Anyway, i can tell u that it definitely wasnt i love you in french and im pissed beyond mesure.

Some languages translated “I love you” in a romantic context, others didn’t. It’s a really tedious task going through scripts and making notes to avoid miscommunication, and some things unfortunately get overlooked. I don’t think that’s the case here though. The real issue has nothing to do with the dubbing at all, it was the insistence on keeping Caryl’s relationship ambiguous. We can talk about body language and micro expressions all day, but the bottom line is Caryl fans shouldn’t have been expected to connect the dots for themselves after waiting years for the payoff. It was an obvious marketing ploy, a way to put a band-aid on the spinoff fiasco while making it safe enough to reinvent Daryl in the spinoff 🤦‍♀️

The thing is, Caryl fans still cherish that milestone in their relationship. Daryl spoke with conviction. It was a promise, not a goodbye as some have put it, so how the hell are we supposed to buy that he’s feeling uncertain again in the spinoff? How is that “tension” going to make us feel anything other than irritated? Carol is riding Daryl’s bike, crossing a damn ocean, and probably retracing his steps to find him. What’s Daryl doing to get back to her, specifically her, not just “people.” Not just “them.” 🤨 I don’t want to waste my time looking for subtle clues here and there. If the payoff starts with Carol, that’s whose story I want to follow to get there.

HELLO OMEGAMOO .looking into your soul with my autistic eyes. can you explain the worldbuilding of wp pretty please. anything abt it i like your rambles and hearing about whittled pantheon

OH MY GOD HI MOSS.. thank u... lets go... under the cut. again. warning. there are some messy bits its not all the way figured out yet. hopefully i got all this right i guess tgm + twig can come correct me haha. and im mostly going to be explaining the failsafes and global worldbuilding here! theres lots of cultural worldbuilding we're working through but thats a lot more specific and less. plot relevant? if that makes sense.

OKAY SO. the first thing u gotta know is that there's a Guy (gender neutral) who creates the universe. the Guy has no role in the story whatsoever hes just the universe creator. and anyways. he creates galaxies and solar systems and also souls. but the souls like. don't behave? they just kinda float around through each solar system and get in the way. so the guy goes well this isn't working and creates shepherds for the souls, one for each solar system. the shepherds lead the souls to the afterlife and oversee like. creation of people getting souls. life and death. in the solar system where the pantheon old world planet is, the soul-herder is Sephtis, god of death, who ends up getting involved with the pantheon and running the shepherding from the wp planet.

also, the Guy creates these entities known as the Carvers, approximately one for each solar system, to go to each of the planets and bring life to them. the Guy hands each Carver two carved wooden & prismarine figures for each planet. these figures are gods, essentially. we call them the failsafes. the Carver is supposed to go to each planet in the solar system, drop off and activate the failsafes using her blood, and then move on to the next one. the failsafes then are like. faux-carvers who will oversee the world.

more on the failsafes - there are two per planet. one is earth-centric and the other is water-centric. so like, the two things humans need to live, if that makes sense. water failsafe controls the water (duh) and the earth failsafe has the ability to open tunnels between planets. this would allow for the carver to travel between planets, especially if something is to go wrong. again, these failsafes (and all other gods) are activated by the blood of a Carver, since the Carvers are like. magic. in the old world, the two failsafes are melior, goddess of aid (she's the earth one) and palaemon (water god. duh). this is why specifically the death of palaemon throws everything so out of balance! in the new world, the only activated failsafe is aides, the earth-centric god of caves. melior gets the gods from the old world to the new world during the catalyst, and aides creates the warren (chaotic system of tunnels more on this in a bit) so that daemon can get back and save iota.

so okay. the reason why the wp planet stands out is because the solar system's Carver is the only one who decides to try and carve her own gods to help humanity. this is how we get the pantheon. she carves and activates morrighan and ludo using her blood. they're supposed to enticehumans to explore and protect humans, but they swipe the prototype carvings of iota and daemon and then fuck off to who knows where. at this point the carver goes "well maybe this isn't working" and activates the first failsafe, melior. iota & daemons carvings are set down in a spot where the carver tripped and skinned her knee which activates them. they convince the carver to carve statikos. and so it goes.

palaemon's figure gets chucked into the ocean. we haven't exactly talked in a while about how this happens. maybe it was the carver maybe ludo tried to activate it and got pissed off and threw it into the ocean. i dont rememebr. but anyways the carver dies and her blood goes down into the ocean and activates palaemon. maey and palaemon r the last gods activated.

so now all of the Carver's duties have been split up amongst the gods alongside her blood. they each carry a bit of her purpose and self. this is why they are able to pass through the tunnel into the new world

in the new world, the gods find that there is no Carver in the new world and no active failsafes, which means there's no way to get iota back. so, they activate the earth-centric failsafe, aides, using their own combined blood since it was originally the blood of the carver. this Works but only kind of. aides isn't a full god, and thus the passageway he creates back to the old world is Fucked.

uhm. okay. i think.... for the present this is it. i could get into like. the mapping of the world or i could get tgm to talk about linguistics and we have a whole calendar system set up and i have so many thoughts about. the night sky. but this is like... what you need to know. about how the world(s) came to be

the maker only brought them about once nevadeans began to band together in organized groups and figured stuff out like agriculture, making them the youngest of the four employers. despite this, they lie pretty flagrantly to the agency and pretty much any non-Employer that'll listen, claiming to have powers they don't or that they've been around since the dawn of creation. agency clones, for the most part, actually straight up don't know the other 3 employers exist (based off the way sanford & deimos react to mentions of the employers in m:pn)! and, because they're the most involved employer in nevadean society, it's not like the other three are ever around to correct or object, since their respective jobs keep them away from Nevada pretty much full-time.

also because of such hands-on involvement, which krinkels has described before as "ill-advised", theyve picked up a ton of nevadean mannerisms- employers are extremely different from nevadeans in a VERY obvious way, the most noticable being that they really don't do much idle behaviors. they truly are focused beings created for a single task, and it's extremely evident in their lack of behavior. however, auditor's broken past this over the years- their siblings find all their idle fidgeting and noise-making and expressions rather strange.

because they're the youngest, and because they so frequently remain in their simple, humanoid form for ease of communicating with the agency members, they are significantly weaker compared to the other employers. it's more difficult for them to access their more natural form, and even when they can, they have less energy to work with combatively. of course, a nevadean facing off against them would never know the difference- but in a fight against any of the other 3 employers, they'd likely go down first without any form of extra aid. (which is likely why they were so desperate for the keystone fragment!)

Regarding the word țigan (or, to be honest, anything that has to do with terminology) we have to remember that there are a lot of Romani groups different from each other when it comes to history, dialects, customs, etc. So one group of Romani people may be comfortable with țigan, or with gypsy, but not other groups

Personally, all the Roma from Romania that I have met consider it a slur. All the Romanian Romani organizations that I know of consider it a slur, and the translation of the word țigan in German, "zigeuner", is unequivocally a slur. That's why I would consider "țigan" a slur, however, if your local Romani communities don't consider it a slur and are using it and are okay with you using it, then I won't speak over them, they know better than me how it's like living in Romania so I won't contradict them.

It can be a big intra-community discourse, however the general tendency nowadays is to consider cigan and variants of the term a slur, at least that's been my experience, that's been the experience of all the Roma I have met so far, and that's what I've seen from Romani organizations. I really get what you mean about it being somewhat ridiculous, performative, pointless and a privileged conversation. I often feel like that too, because often times on the internet and in mainstream politics, people will focus on what's the correct language to use, instead of discussing more pressing issues (i'm thinking about stuff like housing and access to healthcare, for example). It's even more blatant in this case, because even though gypsy is used to translate țigan, "gypsy" comes from the word "Egyptian" while "țigani" comes from the Greek word "athinganoi". When people say gypsy translates to țigan, it's because this word is the closest equivalence in the targeted language, it's not a direct translation the way "zigeuner" directly translates to "țigan"

What do u love abt sonadow? :oc

Oh, there are quite a few things I love about them! Sonic and Shadow's canon dynamic is fascinating in so many levels, since their interactions mostly leave something unsaid or not acknowledged directly - the subtlety is the main point for me. I believe another point that made me like and see them as a cool and interesting pairing in the first place is how important their rivalry - in every aspects of life - is and means to them. It pushes them to do better in every way and help them learn/unlearn things about themselves, such as limits and beliefs, even as friends or foes depending on the circumstances.

Their lifestyles are different albeit similar, considering both of them value freedom and act by their own rules, not following orders or what's morally correct. It all depends on their principles (for Sonic) and goals (for Shadow), yet these two lines also can blur. Moreover, their communication through actions (from the games to recent comics) and gazes (like in Sonic X for example) is something I love to see explored within their dynamic, knowing how sometimes they understand each other in a sense, though not always agree with the other's ways of handling a certain situation they're in/a part of.

This idea is also tied to how they don't seek each other actively for anything, but for some reason, whenever they end up crossing paths again, Sonic and Shadow tend to stick together for a bit. Whether for the sake of the world or to basically challenge each other, they do have some fun in their own little ways. It's a very unconventional, impersonal yet meaningful dynamic and that's exactly why I love it.

SEGA JP was right to describe it as a rare, up-close and personal relationship. It really doesn't fall under a common pattern or can be compared to any other dynamics, since the details we get to see are very much them if you look closely and connect to past events/interactions. There's also a little care between them, not in the romantic sense, but they do appreciate each other's "existence" and input/assistance in a few moments.

Another point I absolutely enjoy is how whenever "they're off in their own little world" (Knuckles' words) at times, other people or main conflicts don't seem to matter until they're done with their competition. Sonic also tends to distract Shadow a lot from his goals, which is amazing and hilarious since his cold-hearted rival is very strict when fulfilling those. He has this hidden respect for Shadow (much like the other does), even when their opinions clash. He doesn't judge him when he gets to understand what and why he's doing what he does - even showing eventual trust (such as in Sonic Battle). Still, he is suspicious of him, and it's something fun to point out, because in the end, Shadow's methods tend to prove him wrong most of the time (like shown in Sonic Forces, Team Sonic Racing and the recent Sonic x Shadow Channel story).

Shadow barely cares for what Sonic has to say about him and vice-versa, though they can rile each other up depending on the words they use or the situation at hand. They have a slight effect on each other and you can see that a lot from Shadow's side. He also likes to show Sonic how worthy of an opponent he is, and that's another point to pay attention to, because he doesn't do that to anyone else. This is why I love them, no matter the setting - as potential lovers or simply two guys being dudes, never excluding their rivalry. Their dynamic would remain the same in both cases, since their unusual interactions are what makes them so special to me!

For some elaboration, because I love talking about Exandroth, earlier in the campaign it's shown that Exandroth has really just so much anger and vitriol towards the gods that she can't control. Peter describes Exandroth as full of rage, Exandroth goes to murder Elotl without even considering letting Rumi and Peter help free Terran, Exandroth cusses out Rymir and goes to kill them without missing a beat.. But later in the campaign, funnily enough a bit like Thanatos, Exandroth lets the group attempt to free Aona and Tareus' vessels, and is also able to remain calm and even joke around when once again confronted by Rymir. So there is changes in how Exandroth thinks... Though reading back I feel like I didn't word this question the best (which I know I shouldn't worry abt since I wrote these out in like 2 seconds or something but you know).

hii!! oo fun question. i saw jude recently give a really good answer to a similar question to this that i definitely agree with here !! (hope u dont mind me linking ur post jude but i just loved ur take on this!!). i also know i sound like a broken record here but i love the moment of sirius' realization in gamesformay's atyd ..that fic is so so special n correct to me so i have to mention it xox under the cut for my rambling !!

i definitely think sirius always knew that he felt differently abt remus than he did the other two, even if he couldnt immediately label those feelings on the train at the ripe old age of 11. i feel like very soon after he sort of sussed out that he was gay, he began to identify what those diff feelings meant, which i'd say wouldve been around 13-15? so at the later end conceivably around one of their first full moons!! but i can also imagine him younger than that just sitting in the hospital wing waiting for remus to wake up after a moon alone n then he does and he looks at sirius and sirius just thinks shit, or something really brief and muted, like being 14 and in class and smiling at each other from opposite ends of the room over some inside joke, and it makes sirius feel hot and jittery and off-kilter except this time he sort of gets why. i remember having this like abandoned drabble id written abt everyone laying about out on the grounds after summer exams together, and remus is sort of half asleep and that's when sirius glances over at him and really realizes, and i definitely picture it as some sort of quiet, young, fragile, slightly mundane moment like that <3

remus id say was a bit older!! but by the time/once the prank happens he's definitely aware that he's in love with sirius and probably always has been. he might've dated other people when he was younger but we're talking like...very modest 13-year-old style 'relationships'--i really dont think either of them would've dated seriously. by fifth year at the latest neither of them are going to date other people, even if they're not with each other yet. the thing with remus is i feel like sirius very much believes that remus isnt drawn in by the cockiness and the charm and the looks the way other people are. but he like...very much absolutely is, lol, although he's also completely deeply in love with the softer, more vulnerable/tender side of sirius that other people don't get to see. he's a dumb teenager and its terrible n predictable but he can't really help being swept away by his pretty, turbulent, incendiary best friend. i can imagine them pulling a prank off in, say, third year and sirius wrenching him into a broom cupboard to hide and big red lurid sirens going off in remus' head like fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck. but i also really like what jude said abt him maybe having an idea of how he felt, but finally really placing it after the prank, because he's confronted with this terrible thing sirius has done to him and the most resounding feeling is: but i love him doesn't it matter that i love him. doesn't that count for anything doesn't he realize wasn't that enough to stop him from doing something like this to me? but it obviously wasn't. and remus loves him anyway.
