About your Elemental Au? Could you provide more background details about it?
Gladly!! (Tysm for the ask I love talking abt the au LOL) It's still a work in progress, but the entire au is centered around all the elements trying to survive after a disaster !!
They're in a survival of the fittest situation, each living in an environment not entirely suited for them but they make it work. Land people have it the easiest, and water people have it the hardest (due to the environment); Fire and air are about in-between. Fire people still, however, face prejudice in this AU !!
The storyline is pretty fantasy centered, since it does include horror along with drama and action! And violence, of course :P
Wade was assigned as his family's protector (against his will) after his father died, and he couldn't deny it because he blames himself for what happened to him. He lost his eye permanently during an attack, which is why he wears a bandage over it. He's different from canon Wade, he's grown rough over the years and unfortunately isn't very emotionally open anymore :(
Ember is considered the city's outcast and she spends most of her time in the forest keeping watch on intruders. She does this as a way of redeeming herself after causing a bad situation but the only people who really recognize her efforts are her parents. She doesn't know what personal space really is, so she's prone to jumping on top people.
Swords aren't their only main weapons! They use bows and arrows, knives, and guns if they have access to it.
This is set in modern day society if it regressed from previous advances!! So modern technology exists, it's just not very. Usable 😭
Ember and Wade meet after he gets lost in a forest and Ember is on patrol, and she (of course) confronts him. The rest is a story that I'll post about <3
I'm planning to make a comic or maybe an animatic series for it, I'm not sure which media I'll use but we'll see !!
Sorry for the rant I get very excited HAHA if anyone has any questions feel free to send me an ask and I'll gladly answer if I can! <3 tysm for reading

"Tinney capek, mak,"
I heard that in my mind, yesterday, just as I made the online appointment to the (other) vet (after coming back from our regular vet).
Tinney is was tired. Tinney did not want meowmmy to spend so much money on her anymore.
Tinney departed yesterday, 12 Nov 2024, 21.17 hrs.
The technical cause of her death was kidney failure. The blood test was to determine whether or not she had FIP. The PCR and blood test themselves would have cost IDR 1.5 million approximately, and I already took a loan from my job that would have allowed us to do the blood tests and initial dosage of the FIP medication.
I told Tinney that we have the money, anyway, and yet Tinney preferred not to be medicated. She passed in my arms, saying those words in the title bar into my mind. I told her it's okay, she can go. I'm sorry I couldn't take care of her better.
I said goodbye, put her in the freezer to be cremated the next day. Today. Made the cremation appointment at Pancaka Damai Lestari.
Tumblr media
Somehow I found a photo of her that is beyond cute. That represents her soul to the very core: laid back, a little mischievous, perpetually curious, loving, unafraid.
Tinney came to me at 4 weeks old. Her mother was my TNR target, and the veggie kiosk owner who used to feed her mom, Maiora, stated that Maiora was not pregnant and can be spayed. Three days after I took Maiora and sent her to be spayed, the kiosk owner came at my door saying, "when's the mama cat coming back? Her kittens are dying!"
'Oh Shit'™️was the first words I said. The next was, "bring the kittens here, I'll take care of them!"
Tinney came with her sister, Winnie, and brother, Beedy. She was the runt of the litter.
Tumblr media
Their eyes were blue. But blessed be - they already know how to eat wf (in the wild, they had to learn faster than babies born indoor/to fully indoor parents). The vet that spayed their mother fortunately allowed the mom to return after only 2 days of inpatient (I had requested 5 days).
UNfortunately, mama didn't have anymore milk, and the three kittens promptly lost weight. Mama had hernia and was underweight to begin with, so she appreciated the extra meals that was given along with her kittens'. Mama stayed for a month, then returned to the veggie vendor's kiosk where she remained for the next 3 years until she got hit by a car and died.
Tinnie was not intended to be foster-failed. But she was, anyway. And she brought joy to the house along with horrors.
She and Winnie have EGC (eosinophilic granuloma complex). Both are allergic to fish. So meowmmy had to totally overhaul the food supplies to include fish-less foods.
Before the EGC flareups, however, she loved raw food. That is, until the household assistant made the mistake in handling the raw food and she was given it while it was already going bad. Yet she LOVED raw chicken cutlets, as long as it was meowmmy or omi (my mother) who did the cutting. It took literal two years to get Tinney to overcome her trauma with spoiled raw meat (other than chicken).
She had nearly all of her teeth removed due to EGC. That initially never stopped her from eating kibbles. Whenever she started to refuse kibbles, I would contact our vet, get her some antihistamines, and within a week, she'll get back to eating kibbles.
Still, the EGC and difficulty eating (as well as pickiness) made her lose weight. She was 6 kg at her biggest. And until her teeth were gone, she had lost 2 kgs.
She was Omi's bedmate, she would always sleep with Omi. If Omi went to bed without her, she would squeak in front of the bedroom door until it got opened.
In the past two months, we have been struggling to keep Tinney from losing weight to no avail. Yes, I have had the feeling that Tinney was suffering from kidney issue - she peed the size of the entire medium-sized litterbox and drink like a camel -- which is NOT good for cats (they should drink approximately 200-300ml depending on the weather and size of cat).
We I should have taken her to a blood check a month ago. As it were, I didn't have the budget for it. I am struggling financially, but still at the level where I can still provide for the cats - as long as it's not extraneous. As it were, the supplements and special foods Tinney needed taxed the budgets. Regardless, I would keep providing even if that means I have to cut back on my own expenses.
Tinney knew. She felt it. So she decided that her fight to live was done.
She left a big hole in my and Omi's heart, and a massive regret in my head. I wish I have more than enough funds to get her health back. I wish I could do more to make her pain gone and her cheerfulness back. I wish I could take more photos/videos of her.
Instead I videoed her passing, which I will not post because I'm just not gonna.
Goodbye, Tinney, see you at the 🌈bridge. Send our hugs for Poccie, Milcha, Ginger, and everyone who's already there, yeah? I'm sure they're happy to see you as much as I am sad to lose you. 💔

For a request could you headcannons on this scenario : Bulkhead is bitten by an unusual scraplet and starts developping a craving for metals, to the point of trying to eat his teamates.
I got really excited when I saw this so I hope you like it! And thank you for making a request <3
Wheeljack
He and Bulkhead were playing with the lob ball and all was well
Until it was Bulkhead's turn to throw it and he just kinda stared at it with confusion
Wheeljack asked him what's up with him when he didn't throw the ball back and just started picking at the scrap pieces that made it up
He said his processor feels kinda foggy and that he just doesn't feeling like playing anymore and then he left to his room in the base
But not without chipping a piece of metal off the lob ball and taking it with him
He chewed on it mindlessly while walking to his room and just went into recharge, ignoring the strange need to gnaw at the piece of metal
Bumblebee
Bee went to wake up Bulkhead for patrol when he heard a crushing sound coming from his room
The sound reminded him of a horror film miko made them watch during movie night but he pushed the thought aside
When he got to Bulkhead's room he was distraught at the sight in front of him
The door was torn open and pieces of it were missing and Bulkhead was nowhere to be seen
He thought of the worst and went to warn the others that their base might have been breached by the 'cons
But he stopped in his tracks when he rounded a corner only to find Bulkhead seated on the floor with bits of metal being crushed by his dentae
The walls around him were smashed and those which were merely broken showed exposed wires, some of were torn and were zapping the nearest conductive objects
Metal walls and pipes along them were getting electric shocks until it made its way to the lights on the ceiling and they flickered
The lights caught Bulkhead's attention and he look up to find bee staring at him with worry and fear painted clearly on his face
bulkhead's optics were a dulled blue like a scraplet's optic, not the bright aquamarine bee was used to and it sent a shiver down his spinal strut
the lights finally gave in but not before bee saw bulk get up to his pedes and bee and bulk were left in pitch black darkness until the emergency lights kicked in
and bee didn't know if he would rather have been left to the unknown or have to deal with the knowledge that bulk likely wants to do the same to him as those pieces of metal, but that was only a fear induced speculation it can't be true right?
unfortunately that fear was confirmed when the pulsing red lights flared to life around them and he saw bulkhead's hulking from looming over him and heaving with the effort of his cooling fans to keep him from overheating
bumblebee would have screamed if he could but all that came out was a prolonged beep loud enough to alert the team on the other side of the base
Optimus & Ratchet
optimus was talking to ratchet about how they found out that after their last mission to the arctic, a human research team had found some of the scraplets they froze there
he told him about how agent fowler had found some documents relating to MECH and how the research team was actually theirs
ratchet ignored an alert that popped up about an energy surge in one sector of the base in favor of listening to optimus, if its about MECH it can't be good and he needs to focus on that
they discovered the scraplets were of cybertronian origin due to the similarity they found in their alloy and the other info they collected after kidnapping breakdown
apparently they tried to reprogram them to become some kind of inhibitor parasite but the documents didn't elaborate on what they meant
but they would find out soon anyway because bumblebee came storming in rambling about a metal eating bulkhead
he told them about the destroyed door and the walls and the electricity short circuiting
at first ratchet didn't believe him but then he remembered the alert that popped up and turned around to face the monitor and go through the security cams footage
he saw bulkhead barreling straight towards them and was horrified at the state bulkhead was in
Arcee
She was watching the kids play a video game when she saw something moving in the reflection of the screen
She turned around to face the hallway just in time to dodge Bulkhead and keep the kids away from his path
He smashed straight in the TV and their couch
Miko is not pleased... But she's more worried about bulk to care about the TV now
Arcee sets the kids down and shields them with her body but she doesn't activate her blasters or pull out her blades cause she doesn't wanna hurt bulk
Right before bulk grabs onto Arcee he's pulled back by optimus and pinned to the ground, bee and wheeljack help keep him from getting away
They manage to get him onto the medical berth and hold still until ratchet can get a scan
He finds a scraplet latched onto him underneath his armor from their last mission to the arctic and removes it before it can do more damage, however he keeps it for research. Ratchet's not comfortable with how much MECH knows of cybertronian biology
When everything is settled down and Bulkhead filled in about what happened when he was out cause he didn't remember much of it, he apologizes profusely and promises to fix up the base as soon as he can
And since it won't be now cause the ordeal took a lot out of him miko suggested a movie night to calm everyones nerves
For some reason bee wouldn't let her pick a horror film
Omg I had so much fun writing this! I hope you liked it anon <3

Graveyard Siblings (3)
Some for revenge and some sibling bonding.
[Masterlist]
(Part 1)(Part 2)
-------
Adrien was next to be visited. Plagg woke him up from his sleep.
-------
“Kit, wake up. I want camembert.”
“Plagg, silence. You are not getting any cheese if you do that.”
“Sorry, Adrien but you are not my ‘master’ anymore.”
“Plagg? Why are you here? Where’s the ring?”
“The ring is as far away as possible and kept safely away. I am here because someone wants to talk to you.”
“Who?”
A cloaked, hooded figure stepped out of the shadows to his room.
“Kitty. My Chaton. Did you miss me?” A sweet, familiar but yet so terrifying voice came from the figure.
She pulled down the hood to reveal Ladybug with a wicked-looking black mask with white lenses.
“What am I talking about? You do miss me. Your Bugaboo. Too bad I don’t feel the same, Adrien.”
Lightning flashed and it started to rain. The mask was gone, revealing his dead classmate, Marinette with chilling red eyes. The pigtails grew longer and curved upwards, giving the illusion of her having horns. Twin blades flashed and she leaped towards him. (Damian gave them to her with some lessons in exchange for spending time with, babysitting, the kwamis.)
Adrien scrambled away from the bed in the nick of time. A sword impaling the spot where he just was.
“Plagg, help. Where is the ring? I need to transform.”
“Sorry, kitten. I am not telling you. Even if you did have the ring, it’s not going to be much help.”
“Kitty, stay still. Then, we can be together. Just like you wanted.”
Adrien continued to dodge.
“What do you mean?” He all but screamed at Plagg.
“Pigtails, here, is a vengeful spirit. She’s not going to stop until she is satisfied. How about asking her what she wants?”
“Ladybug, what do you want?”
“What I wanted was a partner I could rely on, someone I can trust with my life, someone who wouldn’t stab me in the back for his own selfish gain. I wanted a friend who would have my back and not tell me to keep quiet at the price of my mental health and my relationships with people I care about. WAS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK?!”
She managed to get a cut on his left cheek.
Soon, he was on the ground, bleeding out on the round.
“Tell Hawkmoth that he better watch out. Because-” lightning struck and Plagg and Ladybug had disappeared, “his downfall is coming.” Her voice echoed through his room.
Adrien laid bleeding until Natalie opened the door after hearing a crash from the room and came to check on him. As she called an ambulance for Adrien, she wondered if it wasn’t too late to ask for redemption and be spared from Ladybug’s wrath for her part in her murder.
Adrien had the word ‘TRAITOR’ carved into his back. Forever reminding him of his crimes.
--------
He wasn’t in school for a week after the incident. They all were told that Adrien had an accident while fencing.
Gabriel was a little panicking now.
He hired an exorcist, (John Constantine got a hefty amount and did a few flashy magic tricks to appease Gabriel but he didn’t lift the curse Maria put on the place. She is not someone to be on the bad side of and he thinks that he can’t lift it even if he wanted to.)
Emilie gets a little sus at Gabriel when he brought this strange man with a British accent into their home after their son got attacked in his own room with security tighter than Fort Knox.
She doesn’t buy that ‘accident’ bullshit that her husband, son and even Natalie tries to sell her. She thinks it is connected to what happened while she was in a coma.
-----
Adrien has a curse too.
(Credit to @raeuberprinzessin for giving me an idea)
He couldn’t act like the ‘Perfect Adrien’ in public anymore. Acting more like Chat Noir at first then, later a spoiled brat. His friends thought that he was finally rebelling against his father and encouraged it a lot.
Adrien started criticizing other people, strangers at first then to the people working on the photoshoots to his fans to his other school mates, people in his class and his friends. (The curse planted ideas into his head about what he should say and he said them all without thinking about the effect it has on other people)
People started avoiding him not liking his attitude and his comments about how they should behave and change something about them because he doesn’t like it that way and guilt-tripping them when he doesn’t get his way. Even Nino started to distance himself after he saw how Adrien talked to a fan.
The public thought it was a phase but as he got progressively worse, people started despising him. Adrien doesn’t realize this of course so far, happy that his father let him get away with ‘ruining the Agreste image.’ (Gabriel was worried about a potential vengeful ghost and making sure his wife didn't know about his stint as a supervillain. There was also the fact that the Afterlife made more sales than him again and managed to get on the cover of Vogue when he should have, dammit.) He was finally able to say what he wanted to without repercussions. Until he realized when Nino and everyone else cancelled for a hangout for the third time that week that he was slowly losing his friends.
He panics and tries to fix the situation. He didn’t want to be alone again.
He talks to Nino about it and to his horror, he couldn’t stop himself from saying many things that were a little hurtful. (Second part. The moment he realizes he is going to be alone. He is going to find out that yes, lies can hurt people. He is going to see it happen firsthand.)
Nino moved seats and told Adrien that their friendship was on hold until he apologized.
Soon, nearly every time his mouth opened, lies and insults about his friends or their embarrassing secrets came spilling out. Everyone hated him now and Mme. Bustier tried to give him a reprimand about his behaviour, which when he tried to defend himself, he found himself unable to speak.
He managed to explain to his father what caused his unpopularity by writing what happened to him. Unfortunately due to his poor behaviour before the second part of the curse was activated, his fan base was dwindling and people didn’t like him anymore so there was a hit on the Gabriel brand.
He no longer has to do modeling, clearing his schedule. But no one would spend time with him.
The best solution he could do with his predicament was to keep quiet and endure the loneliness and the glares of his classmates at school. Adrien was relegated to the back and nearly everyone avoided him. He was now a social pariah.
Even Lila avoided him because of her own curse which made Adrien turn into one of her previous victims. (She also didn’t ponder why Marinette rarely appears compared to the others.)
If Adrien felt a tiny bit remorseful or guilty for making Marinette keep quiet or betraying Ladybug, he can gain a little control over what he says.
The curse can be broken if he apologizes to Maria herself or to her grave.
------
The first few months, while Marinette adapted to living with the Waynes, Jason stayed over at Wayne Manor because having Maria living with him at his apartment wasn’t a good idea and he had no clue how to take care of a teenage girl.
On paper she is adopted by Bruce because Jason can’t. (Some CPS reasons.)
Making Jason a little more salty towards Bruce. “I found her first. I called dibs.”
Brought Maria to meet the other Outlaws and they adopted her too. “Hey, guys. She’s my sister first.”
Jason was the one to teach her how to shoot a gun because he was ‘the most capable’ of teaching her.
The first few months were a little tense with Marinette not fully trusting them and the same with the rest of the Batfam.
Jason warmed her up a bit to him by telling a little of why he took her here.
He was also the one to book them flight to Paris with Bruce’s credit card so she can tell her friends that she wasn’t dead in person.
They bonded more after stopping some nefarious plot in Paris while they were there. Let’s say Gentleman Ghost and something involving the catacombs in Paris. (I watched some Batman: Brave and the Bold for childhood nostalgia.)
Kwamis were animal-shaped and they were interesting creatures to be around. And very very curious.
There was a stressful day for Maria when all the Kwamis decided to play hide and seek. Damian somehow got roped into helping her as the only available person in the Manor and he will deny that he enjoyed it.
Damian is the little brother she always wanted and she is more tolerable compared to his brothers. There is also the fact that she trusts him with the kwamis and deep down, he feels super-honoured. (I just love older sister!Mari)
Tim and her being insomniac/coffee buddies. There has been many many interventions to stop this.
I get that Marinette is this selfless person and loves making people happy but she has siblings now and them eating the stuff she made for herself to enjoy, should get on her nerves after a while.
She makes a box with booby-traps in which she puts in her cookies and food.
There are many different layers of traps because this is the Batfam and each of them is non-lethal and more ridiculous.
Okay, I once read a fic about Marinette making a bear-trap style box to hide the Miracle Box so this box is also like that but kept for food. (Traps and Sneaks by quicksilversquared)
Someone (I vote a hungry Dick or Jason, maybe a suspicious Bruce) made a mistake of putting their hand into the box and the first trap activated.
Screams filled the house.
Everyone came down including Marinette.
Bruce asked, “Who did this?”
“It was me.”
“Why?”
“They kept eating the cookies.”
“There are other ways to stop them from doing that you know like a ‘Do Not Touch’ sign not a death trap box.”
“They are non-lethal.”
Bruce locked it away but Tim later stole it to tweak it and store his coffee. ------ (Part 4)

Hi!
I don’t know if you’re taking requests right now. But I was wondering if I could request a Sokka x reader? She/her. I was thinking of a modern setting, but everyone still has their bending and y/n is a fire bender. So naturally Sokka and y/n start out as enemies but grow to be best friends, until one day y/n suddenly goes missing. The gaang does everything they can to look for their friend but Sokka is the one to take her disappearance the hardest. He admits to his friends that he has feelings for y/n. They find her alive a week later (you can pick where they find her). After she’s recovered Sokka finally tells her his feelings.
Sorry if it’s a weird requests. I just thought this might be an interesting storyline.
Hi! Yes, I do take requests, I just haven't been active lately due to various issues😅
This was actually a very interesting scenario, although a bit complicating, but still very fun to write.
I decided to change a few minor details and make into a two part miniseries, but regardless, I hope you enjoy it, anon! <3
Ps: part 2 will come soon
------------------------------------------
Tumblr media
(I unfortunately couldn't find the original artist. If you know who it belongs to, please, let me know, I'll credit them right away)
-------------------------------------------
I love her, damn it!
Part 1
Ship: Sokka x f!firebender!reader
Warnings: swearing, mentions of injuries and gun wounds, a bit of angst, but it ends well
Genre: angst-to-comfort
Fic type: scenario
-----------------------------------------
It had never meant to come to this. At least, that's what the members of Team Avatar thought when they managed to get themselves into this situation.
They had found that key information was stored at one of the heavily guarded military bases in the Fire Nation. Information that they needed to bring down the government and leader of said nation. Yet when they had successfully broken in by using their bending abilities and careful planning and managed to obtain the info, one of the previously knocked-out guards had woken up and set off the alarm.
However, that wasn't the worst of it. They had managed to bust out of the building itself but had yet to get past the borders.
"There!" Katara yelled out, pointing her finger towards a military jeep.
"Everyone get in!" Zuko yelled at the group as he turned back to use his firebending to hold back the soldiers along with (Y/n).
Both of them used their abilities to burn and block their attackers as others scrambled to get into the car, with Aang at the steering wheel.
"Get in you two!" Sokka yelled out to the two newly joined firebenders from the back of the car, shielding his face briefly with a stolen police shield when a bullet flew his way. "We have to go! NOW!"
Zuko and (Y/n) turned their attention to the others in the jeep before looking back in front of them to the defeated soldiers. The older boy then started sprinting off to the jeep while the girl stayed behind to look if they wouldn't be followed when they departed. Unfortunately for her, she could see more Fire Nation soldiers coming down the front corridor, holding either rifles or machine guns, some empty-handed which meant more firebenders.
"Start driving! I'll catch up to you!" (Y/n) yelled out to her teammates.
"Are you insane!? No!!" Sokka yelled back.
"God damn it! Listen to me for once Sokka!" the girl yelled back. "Start driving! If you don't, none of us will make it! GO!!!"
Sokka wanted to argue further but jolted forward when the jeep started working and driving away. Fortunately, he had caught himself at the edge of the doorway, his eyes turning back to the firebender he considered a former enemy and now rival.
The girl looked back and made eye contact with the sea-blue eyes of her rival. (Y/n) noticed how Sokka's brows were furrowed downwards and eyes blazed like the flames that only a few firebenders like Princess Azula could produce.
"How pretty they are," she noted to herself briefly before turning back to the soldiers in front of her, guns ready to shoot at them.
She pulled back her balled hand before thrusting it in front of her and releasing a large blast of flames at them, knocking most of the soldiers back. (Y/n) slightly rose to the toes and in a swift twirl turned the opposite direction and chased down her friends' jeep.
She didn't think about anything else, only Sokka's stretched-out hand. The girl willed her tired body to run faster after them and had already stretched out her hand in return before a sharp pain suddenly came from her calf.
Only then (Y/n)'s and Sokka's brains registered the gunshot. The boy propelled himself as much forward as he could before he would tumble out of the back completely trying to grasp her hand. But it missed, just barely, but missed regardless.
And once again, their eyes locked on each others. Both pairs widened in shock and horror as (Y/n) plummeted to the dirt path when her leg finally gave out.
The firebender could faintly hear the screams of her name from her friends over the deafening sound of her heartbeat in her ears. (Y/n) looked down at the source of her agony and saw that the bullet had indeed managed to get itself deep into her calf. And the longer the girl looked at it, the pain intensified.
She heard the clocking of guns and turned her gaze upwards to see that the soldiers had caught up to her and readied their guns. (Y/n) weakly raised her hand upwards and looked back in the direction she had been running only to see the stolen car driving further and further away.
"At least they made it," (Y/n) sighed as she thought of this.
The girl then felt her hand being seized and cuffed, as the soldiers yanked (Y/n) to her unsteady feet, making her grit her teeth together as to not release a scream of pain. She knew they would use it against her if she showed any weaknesses.
When they started to drag her into the base she had tried to escape, she glanced back down the road where her friends had taken off, not seeing the car anymore, only a black fading dot in the distance.
"At least they'll be safe," she girl thought before her view was obscured by the closing metal doors.
--------------------------------------------
"We have to turn back!" Sokka yelled at the front passengers of the car. "(Y/n)'s still out there! She could die!"
"We have to leave her, Sokka." Zuko replied tiredly, "We are too far away now. Besides, even if we did now turn around and drive back, what then? What's your plan? Busting back into the base full of heavily armed guards and firebenders and hope to magically find her?"
''YES!!" Sokka yelled, his brows further creasing downwards further by the second.
"Sokka, we won't make it," Katara reasoned as she turned to look back at her distressed brother, "we barely made it out ourselves. We can't go back. At least not now-"
"We escaped because she bought us time!" Sokka argued back, "We need to go back to her! We owe her for this!"
"Sokka, we'll get her back," Aang chimed in still driving the car, "but right now, we need to get somewhere safe so that we can clearly think of a way to rescue her."
Sokka stayed silent at this comment. Deep down he knew this, he knew more than anyone that they needed a plan to get her out and that they couldn't just bust her out with their abilities. But the urge to get her back near him, the fear that he might lose her and she would die because he wasn't fast enough, the things he hadn't yet said..
The water tribe boy slumped down the wall of the jeep and sighed dejectedly. He ran a hand through his done-up hair before hesitantly bringing it in front of him on his lap. It's the same hand that couldn't grab (Y/n) when he had the chance, and he hated that fact.
"You really love her," Toph murmured in astonishment beside him.
Sokka briefly looked at the blind girl beside him whose eyes were widened in genuine shock right at him. The boy opened his mouth to deny it, but the words got stuck in his throat, unable to come out. He then turned his gaze back at his hand in his lap and stared at it for a few seconds before murmuring back, although more to himself than to the others.
"Yeah, I do."

Guide to my very lazy tagging
I tag any posts or asks that relate to anything I’m writing with a shortened version of that works title. Ex: hiwthi, asmgg, eninen.
I tag any posts that relate to a character with their name. Ex: scooter, mutt, kaon
I tag snippets and sneak peeks of chapters and things I’m writing as a shortened version of the title followed by ‘snippets.’ Ex: oosoot snippets, hiwthi snippets, eninen snippets
I tag any personal posts made by me as ‘chattering’ and I am just going to tag every ask I get as ‘asks’ for simplicities sake. If I go anymore in depth, I’ll just forget.
Please note: I have the craziest brain fog known to man, I’m absolutely gonna forget to tag properly. It’s just a fact of the Milo. This blog is going to be a nightmare to sort through and navigate. Which sucks, but such is fate.

I love making OCs, and I’m not gonna lie, every “reader” character I write is basically an OC of varying degrees. Sorry, but I just really like writing in second person and I cannot stand writing a blank slate pov character, it’s so boring.
My icon is a comm drawn by @cebwrites
I make playlists on spotify for everything I write AND I make them public for your perusal, have fun chat.
My DMs are ALWAYS open for anything! I love to talk to people and I swear to god I’m not exaggerating, please talk to me. (Please be my friend)
I suck at tagging, sorry. My blog is 100% a nightmare to navigate, but I’m trying!!! 😭
I am openly neurodivergent and trans and those things will absolutely be prevalent in my writing. So, if a character is serving autistic or adhd realness, it is both on purpose and in accident.
I’m actually writing a book! Feel free to ask about it, I blog about it every so often!
Every song on each of my writing playlists has a reason for being there and is usually attached to a specific scene, character, or vibe. PLEASE ASK PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.
My fandoms include: Undertale, DC, Star Wars, and Transformers, but I like a multitude of things. These are simply the main ones, however!
________________
IMPORTANT NOTES
1. I know I can’t stop minors from interacting and reading my stuff, although with my Undertale works, I don’t care as much because I don’t intend to add any smut to the main body of those fics. However, with my other fics. Things may get horny, and I REALLY do not want to hear or see any minors interacting with that stuff. It makes me deeply uncomfortable. Just like, don’t tell me if you’ve read it, please. I don’t want to know. Ignorance is bliss.
2. Every fic or story I start, I fully intend on finishing it. Unfortunately, due to my ADHD, I switch between fandoms a lot against my will. My brain is literally holding me hostage and I have no control over it. Major L. Even if a fic goes years without being updated, it will be updated regularly again one day…..
3. Nothing, for now. Who knows when that may change LOL.

Verboten 3 | (T)
ff.net | AO3
Fandom: Danny Phantom (DP)
Summary:   AU. When Danny was five years old, he went missing for 2 weeks. In the years that follow, his family tried to make sense of what happened, only for the truth to be discovered years later.
Warnings: rated T for violence, mentions of death, language. Be prepared for some very weird things
Parings: Danny/Sam
Notes: originally uploaded to Ff.net. Cross-posted to AO3 and tumblr. This fic is very heavily inspired by folklore surrounding mysterious wilderness disappearances
Chapter 3
“You heard me. They’re saying he’s dead,” Dash clarified as he watched Danny for his reaction. “And from what Kwan said, his body was really messed up.”
Danny rolled his eyes as Tucker stuttered in fear. Dash was known for trying to scare his ‘victims,’ so most likely he was just trying to get a rise out of them. “Yeah, yeah, and what’s your proof?” he asked as he sat down on his bed.
That caused the jock to back track. “Well… Kwan said…”
“Dash, I get we’re in the middle of the woods, and you’re in a prime position to tell ghost stories, but unless you have proof, this is not something you should joke about,” Danny scolded which drew a few surprised looks.
“What? It goes against your morals?”
The teen’s sneer was enough to cause uncharacteristic anger to flood through him. After taking a deep breath to calm himself, Danny glowered at him. “I’m only going to explain this once,” he warned as he tried to sound deadly serious, “I’ve seen the aftermath of what happens in a family who has someone go missing, especially when there’s no explanation as to what happened. It’s not pretty, and when it comes to people who get out here all sorts of terrible things can happen, so you shouldn’t be spreading rumors that could reach the family.”
“Wait, hold on. Fenton, you had someone in your family go missing?” one of the other jocks, Zach, asked. Danny was actually surprised he caught on to that. “Did they at least find them?”
“Luckily, they did, but that’s the reason my parents were so vocal against me going, and while I think they’re way too extreme about it, I, at least, understand their concerns.”
“But, no offense, your parents go on and on about weird creatures, ghosts, and other weird crap.”
“Well, yeah, that’s what happens when you try to rationalize what happened when nothing else makes sense. They were already involved in fringe metaphysics and stuff before that happened, so it was a logical jump for them to consider time slips and other dimensions with how bizarre everything was.”
A silence fell between them as they let Danny’s words sink in. It seemed that Zach wanted to say something else, but decided against it. Dash did eventually mumble something about how he’d drop it for now. That by itself was enough validation for Danny.
“Hey,” Tucker hesitantly spoke up after several minutes as all of them began to lay down, “do you think that kind of thing is real? I mean like falling into other dimensions and stuff.”
Danny didn’t answer him immediately. “To be honest with you, I really don’t know. I know there are a lot of legends regarding things like this, and my parents’ research at least suggests the concept of other dimensions is possible. I know the concept of wormholes are mathematically supported, and that some astronomers think wormholes could possibly bridge dimensions, but we don’t have the technology to get close to one or survive it. But random rips appearing in the woods? It sounds more like sci-fi horror movie stuff, but sometimes, as stupid as it sounds, that’s the only thing that makes sense.”
…..
“Maybe Kwan was right,” Tucker mused when he and Danny exited their cabin the next morning.
There were police officers present, and an ambulance with closed doors was on the far side of the camp. Danny briefly caught sight of an officer speaking to the driver of the ambulance until he noticed the markings on the ambulance were off. After a moment, he realized it belonged to the local Coroner. If that was the case, then there was a body retrieved.
“Well, I don’t know if it was that missing camper, but something definitely happened to someone,” Danny agreed as they made their way to the mess hall for breakfast.
The worst was confirmed as breakfast was finished. Rusty once again stood in front of them. His face was somehow bleaker than the previous day as he confirmed that the missing camper had been found deceased. After the murmurs of the teenagers quieted, he continued, “I know you’re supposed to be out here for fun, but unfortunately, this circumstance happened. We are going to do our best, after the police finish their investigation, to make sure you enjoy yourself here. However, the police have requested to interview each of you to see if anyone you may have seen or heard anything while you were out yesterday. They have also requested that no one go off by themselves while they were under investigation. Please go in groups of at least two. We rangers will also try to be with you when you’re outside of camp, but we may be stretched a little thin during the investigation.”
“I’m surprised they aren’t sending us home,” Tucker mentioned once Rusty was finished speaking and the roar of the students overtook the mess hall.
“I don’t think they can. I mean, the police need to talk to us, and since it’s an open investigation, they won’t want anyone to leave the area until they’ve determined there’s nothing else they can do here,” Sam pointed out as she checked her phone.
“Hey, are you able to get any service?” Danny asked her. “I couldn’t reach my parents yesterday.”
“It’s weird. Yesterday, I could, but I’m having trouble getting service this morning.”
“Now that you mention it, I noticed that too,” Tucker added as he brought out his PDA. “And that’s the thing, with how I modified this, that shouldn’t be the case. I wonder if there’s a disrupter somewhere nearby.”
“You mean a cell phone disrupter?”
He nodded as he leaned towards them. His voice lowered as he glanced around the room. “I’m not sure if anyone else noticed it. I think most of our classmates think it’s just because we’re in the woods, but that’s not really how it works anymore. This is something that should be brought up to the police.”
“I think you’re right,” Danny agreed as he checked his phone again. “And with everything happening, I think I won’t be able to use the ranger’s phone today either.”
….
About an hour after breakfast finished, the police began their interviews of the students. While Danny and his friends waited for their turn, they hung out near the front of the mess hall. They didn’t say much, but instead, they decided to watch the area.
A while later, a long black limousine approached from the only road fit for normal vehicles and came into the camp. A few minutes after it parked, a well-dressed man with silver hair exited. As one of the officers approached the man, Danny finally realized why he recognized him.
“Oh, that’s Vlad. I wonder why he’s here,” he mused as he watched. After a moment, he noticed his friends were gaping at him. “What’s wrong?”
“You know the Vladimir Masters?” Tucker nearly choked. “He’s one of the most influential billionaires in the world!”
“He is? I knew he had money, since he helps fund some of my parents’ experiments, but I didn’t realize it was that much. Anyways, apparently he and my parents went to college together. With how often he visited when we were younger, Jazz and I kind of view him as an uncle.”
“That’s actually pretty impressive. My parents know him due to some of the business galas they’ve attended,” Sam mentioned as a devious smirk crossed her face. “Oh, I can’t wait to tell them that Vlad is your parents’ benefactor. Mother dearest will have a conniption.”
Their conversation turned to what Danny knew of the man, and he answered the best he could. As he thought about it, he realized he didn’t know a lot of personal details about the man. Vlad tended to focus on the people around him and avoid talking about himself. He just figured Vlad was a very private person.
When Vlad finished speaking with the officer, he approached the trio. “Oh, Daniel! What a surprise! I never expected to run into you in a place like this with how protective Maddie is.” His tone was pleasant, but his exaggerated gestures almost made it seem like he was acting.
“We’re here on a school trip. I guess the PTA and teachers managed to convince her and Dad we’d be protected. But why are you here? No offense, but seeing you in the middle of the woods in a suit is weird,” Danny replied nonchalantly. He was used to Vlad’s over the top behavior.
“It’s unfortunate, really,” he explained as he glanced over his shoulder towards the officers. “The gentleman who they found dead works for one of my companies. I came out to see if the police officers required any assistance with resources, funds or otherwise, and offer my services.” As he turned back to face Danny, his eyes widened as he seemingly noticed Sam and Tucker for the first time. “Ah, you must be Daniel’s friends. Where are my manners? I’m Vladimir Masters, but you may call me Vlad.” He extended his hand towards them.
Tucker eagerly took his hand, but Sam was a little more hesitant. “I’m surprised that a big name like yourself personally looks in on their workers,” she told him.
A pleasant hum escaped the man. “I do try to keep tabs on those I employ. This particular incident, however, is extremely tragic and unusual, so I felt it was prudent to personally show my support for those investigating.”
“Yeah? I’ve also heard that killers like to inject themselves into investigations.”
“Sam!?”
“It’s quite alright, Daniel,” Vlad told him as he flashed a pleasant smile. “She does bring up a valid point, and it’s likely I will be asked a few more questions at a later time as a result. However, I can assure you that I was in my office a few states away when Mr. Aiden Jones was reported missing. Hmm, I also think I may have a word with your teacher. With a tragic event like this, it’s unwise to have you remain here when it is unclear if it is safe or not. Now, if you excuse me.”
As Vlad began to turn, Danny took a step closer as a thought crossed his mind. “Oh, Vlad, I hate to ask, but would you happen to have a phone I can use to call my parents? Mom left me a frantic message, but my phone’s not working, and I can’t use the Rangers’ phone right now…”
The man appraised him for a moment. “I don’t have a phone on me right now, but I do have one in my car. While I don’t think your teacher or the police would find it appropriate to let you in my car at the moment, I can at least give them a call for you.”
“Thank you!”
Vlad flashed him a large grin. “Anything for you, dear boy. But, I really must be off. Ta!” With that, he walked away, approached one of the nearby rangers, and struck up a conversation.
“So that’s Vlad Masters,” Tucker mentioned once he was certain the man was out of earshot. “I can’t figure out if I like him or not.”
“I don’t. It felt like everything he said and did was an act,” Sam told them as she crossed her arms. Her eyes never left the billionaire.
Danny just shrugged as he put his hands in his pockets. “He’s always been like that. I don’t really know if it’s because being involved in business, or because he lives alone.”
“He lives alone? No family or anything?”
“Nope,” he replied as he popped the ‘p’. “He’s never had anyone as long as I’ve known him. Both Dad and Mom like to ask him about whether or not he’s dating anyone whenever he’s stopped by, but he’s always answered that he’s too busy. I think Mom’s tried to hook him up with a few dates, but it never panned out.”
A frown crossed Tucker’s features as he glanced at the man. “You’d think he’d have people throwing themselves at him because of his wealth.”
“That might be why he isn’t seeing anyone. Anyways, any thoughts on what happened?”
“Not really,” Sam replied as she glanced towards some of the rangers and police. “If they thought it was just an accident, you’d think they’d come right out and tell us. I’m going to assume they aren’t sure, so they need to try to rule out a few things before they tell us anything.”
“Looks like we’ll have a chance to ask one of the officers. I guess it’s our turn to be interviewed,” Danny mentioned as one of the officers caught their attention and beckoned them.
A few minutes later, the officer took them into the mess hall. It was fairly routine. The officer, Malik, assured them they weren’t in any trouble or suspects. He just wanted to know if they had seen or heard anything while they were out on the trails the previous day. They explained that everything seemed normal, and they couldn’t recall seeing anything out of the norm. Tucker did mention that the three of them were having trouble with their cell phones.
Officer Malik made a strange expression at the new information, but did say anything regarding it. He just thanked them for their time, and sent them on their way.
Before he left the room, Danny spoke up, “Sir, do you know what happened? Should we be worried?”
He was silent for a few moments before replying. “We’re pretty sure he just had a bad accident, but, since we don’t have an official answer yet, we do have to investigate and take statements. Sorry this had to happen while you kids are on a trip.”
Danny thanked him and hurried out the door with his friends. “So, what do you think?” he asked as he checked behind him to make sure no one was paying attention to them as they walked behind one of the cabins.
“That’s pretty cut and dry, isn’t it?” Tucker asked as he scratched his head. “Accidents do happen.”
“Yeah, but the officer didn’t reassure us it was safe. Danny, you noticed it too?” When he nodded, Sam continued, “I think they’re trying to downplay what might have happened which worries me. And since our cell phones still aren’t working properly, it makes me more anxious. I guess Vlad was right. We shouldn’t be here right now.”
“Sam! Don’t say things like that!” The scared whine in Tucker’s voice almost made Danny laugh. “You’ll see, Dash and his jerk friends will use it to tell ghost stories tonight. I not going to be happy if I lose sleep.”
“And here I thought you liked scary stories.”
“Not when we’re smack dab in the middle of the beginning of a real life horror movie!”

Update on my baby Saki~
Fullbody Art and sketch by ivy.icy27
Chibi by kumiiboo
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
🌿Name: Fujimoto Saki
Always introduces herself as, and insists to be called by her given name Saki
🌿Breath technique: Breath of Bamboo or maybe the breath of grass, plants nature? It's a work in progress.
Sakis breathing technique allows overall bodily enhancement, with a focus on bamboo, as it has many useful applications.
A total number of moves has not been decided.
🌸Mentor: Mitsuri Kanroji
Saki becomes her tsuguko and can potentially grow to be the Plant Hashira.
🌿Backstory: Sakis adoptive mother, Sonomi, was actually a retired demon slayer turned demon that would slaughter families and steal the babies, believing they were her own. This began after killing her own family when she was turned by Muzan. Muzan purposely loosens his control of her once she's taken the baby to raise, which lasts up to the age of 13, which is when he'll then force her to kill them and repeat the process. Its an experiment, and form of punishment, he began to prevent another Tomoyo as Sonomi is constantly fighting against his influence due to her blood demon art of telepathy.
This is how she eventually comes to pick up and begin training Saki as she's finally managed to create a mental shield strong enough to block muzans control and influence. Unfortunately, she is eventually tracked down and attacked by demon slayers which causes her to let control over her mental shields slips, allowing Muzan to break through. As punishment he then sends her into a battle crazed blood lust, causing her to begin slaughtering the demon slayers and attacking indiscriminately.
Saki who has just turned 10, 3 years before the series starts, returns to see her mother in this state and moves to attempt to stop her by hugging her, getting thrown in the process and landing near a fallen nichirin blade. A Kakushi then rushes to her side and begins scolding her and calling her lucky for not being killed, explaining her mother is a demon and cannot be reasoned with.
As Saki watches on in silent horror, blocking out the Kakushis words, she sees tears falling from her mothers vacant white eyes as a third eye begins opening on Sonomis forehead.
Saki reaches for the nichirin blade as flashbacks from Sonomis past begin to play in her mind revealing the truth of their relationship and Sonomi's tragic existence, culminating in an image of Sonomi cradling her dead families bodies while crying out "please, don't make me kill anymore, please, end it!" She realizes this is Sonomi's mind reaching out desperately through her blood demon art.
Saki then explodes into action, taking advantage of an opening in her mothers form after a lengthy battle to cut off the demon's head, before landing on her side in exhaustion and allowing the blade to slide away, as the shocked Kakushi and remaining demon slayers watch on in silence.
As the head flies through the air, the vision becomes flashbacks of Sonomi's time with Saki, all the tender moments they had shared as mother and daughter. Once the head lands, Sonomi's face shows a peaceful expression as her eyes slowly close. Saki watches with a tearful expression as the vision changes, to a Sonomi tearfully thanking her and apologizing as she reunites with her family, before they fade away.
As Sonomis third eye finally closes, the last thing Saki hears is a gentle, peaceful voice telling her to live well, and the sensation of a phantom kiss on her forehead.
Sonomi then completely crumbles to ash and blows away in a gentle breeze as the Kakushi rushes to check on Saki who grabs onto him and begins wailing.
🌿On the back of Saki's yellow gradient Haori the kanji for longevity is written in Navy blue, a reminder of the desire of her deceased mother, that she be able to live a long fulfilling life.
🌿Saki's overall color palette including her sword are taken from actual bamboo colors as you’ll find natural Bamboo plants in blue, black, red, and yellow, not just green.

1 ❤️Greetings! May I request a BSD matchup? I’m a little bit chubby asexual female, with an average height and long blond wavy hair. I usually wear a T-shirt with a funny or extraordinary pun or reference and a shirt on top. I am kind of pale because I don’t go out very much and I have black circles under my eyes due to my insomnia. I’m an INTP, ennagram 5. I am viewed as weird by many people including myself and I’m a very big nerd.
2❤️ I am a smart person with dumbass attitude and I literally have no common sense. I am very loud in the circle of my close friends but when I’m with strangers I’m extremely quiet and distant. I question almost everything. I secretly crave for affection but I don’t say or show it. When it comes to trust I don’t trust people easily - they have to earn it. The same goes with respect. I may sound arrogant. I value logic over emotions, but I think ignoring emotions is bad I’m lazy and have anxiety
3❤️ I pride with my intelligence even though I think everyone is better than me. My biggest fear is insanity and I cope with that fear by craving it in literature, media, … even more which is very weird. I am a writer (mystery, horror, psychological,…) with a vivid imagination and a big sucker for mystery. My curiosity will be my doom. I am a person of many hats and a very chaotic person. I am also really messy. I love ciphers, codes, puzzles and riddles and literature.
4❤️ I also extremely overthink everything - that can leave me paranoid sometimes. My fatal flaw would probably be that I think way too much and my worst enemy is me. Sorry for the long description and have a nice day! UwU
Hi ! I must admit I feel a little bad, leaving this matchup to sit in my inbox for this whole time. I was conflicted because you sent your request shortly after I closed the matchups so you probably didn’t realize they weren’t open anymore !
Unfortunately I lost all motivation in doing matchups for a while and I don’t think they will be open anytime soon due to my limited free time.
However, I didn’t want to leave you without anything so here’s a little something ! (since I would have matched you with Ranpo !)
- What kind of mystery are you trying to solve this time ? inquired a very familiar voice. Ranpo glanced over your shoulder, quickly scanning the book you were absorbed in and took advantage of your distraction to steal your hat. Almost immediately, you perked up and dropped the brain-twisters collection in your hands. - Hey ! - Haha ! I took your precious hat hostage ! You extended your hand. - Give me that back, thief ! It was only five minutes and many candies later that you managed to get your possession back on your head. With a big smile on his face, Ranpo sat besides you and picked the book off the ground. - These aren’t easy, he noted. Not for me, of course, but for the common… - Are you calling me common, Ranpo Edogawa ? He shook his head. - Never ! You’re the most beautiful enigma I’ve ever come across.

🌼Here is my version of Horrortale THE UPDATED VERSION! I was not really happy with how I wrote it prior to this but now that I have added more world building I am so much more satisfied with the result. There is a lot more to it now than there was before world wise. A few things to mention before I start. This Horrortale is mainly a Frans or Frisk X Sans AU. It may change in the future but that is the core of it. I also want to warn people that the below content may be triggering or disturbing. This is very serial killer based so keep that in mind as you move forward.
DO NOT REPOST MY WORK WITHOUT MY PERMISSION IT IS NOT FOR YOUR USE. IF YOU LIKE MY WORK PLEASE REBLOG INSTEAD! It helps me so much! It makes such a difference.💙If you want more of these just let me know! It’s the only way I can gauge interest!
Horrortale {FXS}
Alternate “Nicknames” Info:
Sans: Blade Papyrus: Ash ( joke reference to Ash vs the Evil Dead)
Tumblr media
Main Plot Synop: Sans timeline has yet to meet their “fallen human”. On the surface the monsters begin to do experimentation learning about the abilities that humans possess. These studies lead to even more advances for the humans and the monsters. They live and coexist perfectly but something goes wrong. The monsters were considered to be pure beings ones with pure white souls to match but humans were flawed. They did horrible things even to their own and eventually that began to create a new threat. One that was easily spread from monster to monster. A black infection that begin to eat away and hollow out ones soul called The Rot.
Sans works in the lab spending more and more time trying to help his associates with their research into human soul traits. Gaster begins to make headway on the research of the soul extracting vials of concentrated soul essence. That includes the essence from a fallen human that died of causes unknown. Their name is Chara. In Chara’s soul The Rot lies in wait festering in a sea of pure red. Like an apple rotted from the inside the hate and hopelessness of this trait resided in that lone soul and ate it alive. All that they had been was no more. Those working in the lab are the first to be infected especially their Royal Scientist Dr. W.D Gaster.
Sans pursuit to rid the others of this rot causes him to become obsessive and resort to using old vials of human soul essence in his own experiments. It begins to become successful keeping away the infection but at high doses it can have some nasty side effects. He begins to cure the monsters but his own rot can only be cured by one source, Determination. The strength of the essence is so powerful that it begins to have some interesting complications.
Kindness- Obsession
Integrity- Moral righteousness/ pride/ manipulation
Bravery- Adrenaline high constantly sweating, rapid breathing and nausea
Justice- OCD (ideologic pride)
Perseverance- Extreme fatigue/sickness/ depression as physical symptoms
Patience- Timid and intense fear/ anxiety
Tumblr media
The Rot and the World it forms:
The rot if left “untreated” can cause some rather unfortunate changes within monster biology and the cure to such an infection is not foolproof (in fact I would argue it causes them to start cannibalizing each other). Those that are suffering from the rot begin to make their way through different stages of the infection.
Stage 1: Paranoia and weakness
Stage 2: A shift in biology- Due to the cure being human soul traits the side effect is a change in monster biological structure. They begin to lose some of their magical abilities taking on the traits that are curing them. It alters their make up at the soul level. This also causes them to take on a more physical form. That means that their bodies persist after death and even bleed.
Stage 3: Starvation/ Ravenous hunger- The infection causes a craving in the soul most likely in an effort to fill a hole of some kind. The same one that is eating away at their soul leaving a soulless husk behind. This is usually seen in the form of food but it can also be more worldly things. Money, power, all of those are fair game. They essentially become soulless.
Stage 4: Mindlessness- Almost like wild animals the monsters that make it to this stage become like wild beasts. All predators. They feast on other monsters but they usually turn their sights to monsters that have a high concentration of human soul in their bodies. That includes humans as well.
Stage 5: “Death” (amalgamates)- The typical mindless zombie. They are slow and aggressive only thinking of eating even though they are half dead already. They do not speak, they do not think. They exist. (What a horrible way to “live”).
Monsters begin to eat and kill each other thinning the once thriving monster world. Just like in UT they used to have an overcrowding problem but now with this new situation that is quickly changing. Asgore locks himself away trying to keep the infection at bay and away from those he cares about. It is unclear if the King is dead or not. All they know is that the entire Underground is in ruin.
It would appear that having quantities of these traits can hold off deeper stages of the infection. That is why they begin to formulate ways to lure humans into the mountain, songs, whispers, anything that can be used. The barrier is different in this version as it only requires the power of a human soul and a monster soul to cross it. This means that some monsters have the ability to slip past the barrier to drag humans back for “dinner time”. The human cities have not forgotten about the monster threat and they keep up defenses to keep them out. A zombie apocalypse if you will. That means that some monsters (again not all they have to be strong enough) can cross the barrier and bring back food.
The barrier was also not created originally as a punishment for monsters losing the war but rather containment. It was cruel nonetheless and eventually the humans began to distance themselves from the monsters leaving them stuck in a barrier that provided no room to grow and little food or resources. Eventually as The Rot began to infest the Underground humans quarantined it off leaving them even more hopeless than ever before.
Humans do not “seem” to be affected by The Rot but their world has been significantly altered by the disease. It makes it difficult to live when all your meals are outside of your cities security and large open spaces are easy targets such as farms. In the end the war and caused an even larger problem, the destruction of their world. It is nothing but an apocalyptic wasteland in most parts due to attacks. Food is scarce both in the Underground as well as on the surface. Just as monsters have become hunters of their own

The Effects of DETERMINATION:
Sans begins to see more and more the inner works and the fabric of the world he lives in. It begins to make him think he is going crazy. It has to be due to sleepless nights, heightened stress, and hopelessness that seems to continue to fester in his own soul. In addition to being able to manipulate and see the fabric of his world he also has “visions”. Almost a form of astral projection. His consciousness is able to see through the eyes of his respective timeline counterparts. He is able to see everything they do in multiple timelines. It is a form of timeline hopping or reset. They are all on the same frequency.
He begins to see their happiness and their pains. The good and the evil. At first he thinks they are dreams but as it happens more frequently the more he realizes the nature of it. He sees how happy they are and there is one constant variable for their happiness (the bad timelines begin to heighten his apathy). That constant is Frisk. He continues to help the other monsters and almost all of them are “cured” though the other side of The Rot has yet to rear its ugly head. He however becomes a recluse burying himself in his supposed delusions and madness. He continues to take more and more DT slowly turning his eyes red. It is like the ring of an oak tree. The longer that he uses it the more rings he gets the larger his eye becomes (giving him that classic Horror look).  At first they are like the rings of a tree effectively replacing his rot with a new DT addiction. It also begins to cause his face to slowly melt.
Meanwhile the other main boss monsters that have been treated have a similar affliction where the soul traits they were taken have embedded into their souls. It begins to give them a new power. A power rivaling that of a human soul. The power of the 7. The variable that can be used to slip past the barrier. Sans though is becoming slowly obsessed with this Frisk. He sees her not as a variable anymore but rather someone that will make him happy.
Sans madness continues to increase even his associate Dr. Alphys is trying to get him some semblance of help but by this time he is too far gone. He needs an intervention. An explosion happens in the lab. The vials and his research are now gone. All of it has gone up in flames and unfortunately the damage to his soul has already been done. He ends up in solitary confinement sinking further into his obsession.
News reaches him that a human has fallen down from the opposite entrance of the Underground. He goes to meet them only to realize that they look nothing like the human he is obsessed with. He begins to harvest human soul essence hiding his face behind a mask at first since nearly the whole front portion of his face is gone. It is a mask of his own face which makes his gaze even creepier knowing what, or rather what does not lay beyond it.  Eventually he learns to easily control his face with his magic rearranging the dust to shift his appearance. His level of insanity shifts to obsessive confusion. He is unhappy his first human encounter is not his precious Frisk but the human does have her eyes from his perspective. His concept of what Frisk actually looks like keeps changing.
His form and control is directly tied to his emotional states. If he experiences any form of heightened emotion be it sadness or rage his composure will falter as will his appearance. If it becomes too drastic he will slowly begin to melt causing the appearance he originally had when this all began to appear. This is why he is called “The man with many faces.” He will sometimes end up completely faceless save for the bottom half where his grin would be.

Blades Madness:
Sans (aka Blade) obsession causes him to steal the various parts of humans to create his perfect human. Each one he makes he sees as an improvement. They are all mindless dolls held together with low doses of soul essence and magic. A macabre shrine to his beloved human. They reside in his shed and sometimes he talks to them but he considers them as failures. He calls them his projects and this continues over and over until his Frisk falls.
He is overjoyed that he has his precious with him now. Papyrus checks on his brother yet he knows he needs help. After all these years he has seen his brothers decline Ash tries to help him. Frisk’s entry into the Underground is by complete accident, though she is not the savior that the rest are known to be. She is a soul of kindness causing her eyes to be a bright jade. Even Sans though overjoyed that Frisk has “returned” to him; he feels as though she is not perfect yet. He takes her and makes her perfect by removing one of her eyes to be a beautiful blue. He even cuts the back section of her hair to satisfy him.
She feels no pain when this happens. Her kind soul wants to help him and slowly she begins to pull the old Sans back every once and awhile. Her soul, just like Charas, is filled with something as well. It turns out that though it looks like Frisk’s soul is one of kindness it is actually a pure white soul of hope. This has the ability to cure The Rot. They are glimpses but it is progress. He has to stop his killing ways and he does after Frisk is with him.
She feels no pain when this happens. Her kind soul wants to help him and slowly she begins to pull the old Sans back every once and awhile. They are glimpses but it is progress. He has to stop his killing ways and he does after Frisk is with him.

Monthly Media Roundup (June-July 2019)
Well, I neglected doing a post last month, and now another has passed. I haven’t done too much, about three games each month and not anything else media-wise, so let’s get it all done right now!
Little Nightmares (PC/Steam):
Tumblr media
These types of spooky “cinematic platformers”, like LIMBO and INSIDE, never really scare me or fill me with dread. Part of this may be that due to the trappings of cinematic platformers. Checkpoints are very fair, and nothing is too difficult because priority is on delivering the story. Little side challenges exist, like trying to light all the candles or break all the porcelain dolls in the short 3-hour run of the game, but these are also pretty reasonable, even if you’re in a chase sequence. I’m reminded of a youtuber I briefly followed who talked about how horror games aren’t scary anymore, and somewhat unintentionally delivered the point that as you become accustomed to the limits of a medium, and therefore are less likely to be surprised by it, you’re also much less likely to be scared by it. It’s a somewhat unfortunate and inevitable trade-off to becoming more invested in a hobby. When I was a kid, all games held infinite possibility, and so an NPC in Harvest Moon telling me that wild dogs came out at night led me to think that night time held the possibility of ENEMIES in a game without combat. What the NPC meant was that you should build fences. As an adult who has spent my life playing games, I can tell you that a game is almost never going to put you in a situation without the means to deal with it. If there’s going to be combat, you’re going to know how combat works before an ambush. If there’s an escape sequence, you’re going to be in an area that facilitates your escape (often a narrow space that leads you in a direction while also making it as harrowing as possible). Games are theme park rides, and while learning that can make seemingly difficult games more manageable and enjoyable, it also gradually disillusions you. Thankfully, there are always new things to learn if you keep an open mind.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D (3DS):
Tumblr media
2019 has been about thoroughly enjoying the games that I considered overrated in my young adulthood. I joked on twitter that 70% of my personality was disliking Final Fantasy VII and Ocarina of Time, and honestly, it might as well have been. I earned a lot of undeserved respect in college through arrogantly spouting hot takes about “objectively good art”, and a lot of people reasonably assumed this must mean I know exactly what I’m talking about. The way I process art and media is much looser and more personal than it used to be, partially due to burning out and becoming too exhausted to deal with other arrogant people. I think a lot about how tiring I had to be for other people to talk to. Watching Tim Rogers bleed his personal trauma into his video series on the subtleties of FF7’s japanese script was the most instrumental in turning me back toward the game. When Square Enix revealed gameplay footage of the remake at E3 this year, I was hooting and hollering with the longtime fans.
But, this is about Zelda, not Final Fantasy. I had already played through OoT, as hurriedly as possible, just to say I had done it. It was the better part of a decade ago, at the urging of a then-girlfriend who had nostalgia for it. Frustrations with the Water Temple in the original version are valid despite it being largely well designed, due to some minor shortsighted-ness that blows up into nagging issues, but I think I had put myself in the headspace to dislike it from the get-go. Similarly, I didn’t want to do any collecting in the game as a whole. I had convinced myself that there was no joy to be found in collecting in games (a take bereft of nuance). When the point of Zelda games is to inspire the player to explore every nook and cranny in search of rewards, going in as a player and stubbornly trying to avoid any of that ensures that you’ll miss the point of the whole experience. I’m not sure what it was that made me want to go back. It might be that I wanted to prove my younger, cockier self wrong, and pave over my old evaluations with more nuance.
It certainly worked out that way, as several previous opinions changed entirely. Ruto used to be annoying to me, but was now one of my favorite characters. Doing all the little minigames felt rewarding in itself, and in turn I was unexpectedly rewarded with important items (they really did bet everything on the entire world they’d made). The Water Temple, now tweaked for a bit more convenience in the 3DS version, was extremely interesting. The side quest to acquire the Biggoron Sword was easily doable, whereas I had grown up assuming it impossible. And the story which had never appealed to me (because I wouldn’t let it) now felt relatable in a way I hadn’t expected. Link intends to do good, but through unfortunate circumstances and honest mistakes becomes unable to take part in the world, and it spirals downward for years as he remains trapped in a room, aging but inactive. Something about that mirrors my own experiences with depression. Sure, Link, can travel back to his younger self at any time, but there’s still a powerlessness in the inability to affect the seven year gap. You can flash back, but you can’t change what you’ve lost.
Banjo-Kazooie (N64):
Tumblr media
You know, as a kid I probably would have just accepted that Grunty was evil, but as an adult it’s hard not to see her as a product of her environment. Obsessed with asking her cauldron who the objectively prettiest in the world is, she seeks out and kidnaps the younger girl given the title in an attempt to steal her youth. Every character in the game describes Grunty as ugly, rather than evil, and even her own sister shows up in every area to tell you how gross she is and how terrible her lifestyle is. I ended up sympathizing with her more than anyone else. I’ve only played half an hour of Banjo-Tooie, but it was a relief in multiple ways to see her pivot to straight up murder after rising from the dead.
Despite playing Donkey Kong Country multiple times growing up, I’d never really grown to love Rare’s in-house aesthetic of big-eyed cartoony animals. It might be hypocritical, but Smash Ultimate’s reveals for both King K. Rool and Banjo (and) Kazooie made me see the charm in these characters. Something about how Smash canonizes characters as essential pieces of game history always causes me to drop any negative pretense and adopt them as favorites. It’s a little intellectually hypocritical, but I can’t help liking what I like. After the trailer for B-K in Smash, I immediately started up the original game in Retroarch. Thankfully the core I used was advanced enough to play the game without issues (the same cannot be said for Tooie), as other alternatives were expensive or hard to get a hold of. While the slightly-mean humor and talking animate objects took a bit of getting used to, I get it now. I get the children’s show aesthetic they were aiming for, and I appreciate the feel of the physics and control of the interspecies friendship of the protagonists working in tandem with each other, even if the game is at times quite difficult.
Dragon Quest I, II, & III (SNES):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes, I did play through three JRPGs in a row! And yes, you might notice that the hero of Dragon Quest XI (and VIII, and IV, and III) was also announced for Smash Ultimate. They recently released, as of this writing! A lot of what I’ve been playing has been influenced by outside forces, whether it be Nintendo news or friends, but I’m not bothered at all when otherwise I might not have the energy to play anything. The games I’ve been playing are also ones I’ve intended to play for a while, so the excuses have been convenient for me. Though, actually, this decision had less to do with the Smash announcement and more to do with the upcoming re-release of DQXI, which seems to be related to the original three games, known as The Erdrick Trilogy. I had heard that you can play XI on its own, but that there is an extra layer of appreciation to be had if you’ve played the original trilogy. Me being me, I naturally queued them up. I chose the older fan translations of the SNES remakes, and though I did finish them, I can tell you that they have their fair share of bugs (DQII even has a game breaking glitch I had to finagle through using save states across multiple versions, phew). Besides that, those old translations lack the modern localizations of the games, so if they namedrop something in XI, there’s a chance it’ll go over my head. Oops! If you want to play these games, the best versions are currently on mobile phones.
Around a decade ago I was in early college, with no friends except for those still in high school or at another university. I was very lonely and nervous. I started playing Dragon Quest V purely by chance, and it served as the perfect salve for that loneliness, with its lonely child protagonist traveling around the world accumulating found family. It’s one of the more poignant and cathartic JRPGs I’ve ever played, and for the next decade I would actually be bothered that the rest of the games didn’t live up to the catharsis of DQV.
In revisiting the roots of the series, and playing it through to see how it develops from title to title, it finally clicked with me, and continues to click with me, as I keep learning more about the series. Rather than comparing every entry to DQV, I should have been comparing them in order. This might sound obvious, but it really did make a world of difference to see that V’s narrative is placed on top of the foundation the previous games set, rather than a singular case of lightning in a bottle. And the games have always featured loneliness, but in differing contexts, and to different degrees. The hero of DQI is almost entirely alone through the full game. In DQII, the princess comes from lonely circumstances, and one of the princes comes down with a sickness that leaves him temporarily unable to help his friends. In DQIII you can make as many team members as you want, but you grow up with an absent father, and your own good deeds receive bittersweet resolution. They are all games built on simple settings and followed through with empathy. The series is at times disarmingly heavy, which is part of what makes the games as memorable as they are. You’re never quite as prepared for Dragon Quest as you think you are.
As of this writing I’m currently half-way through a replay of Dragon Quest IV, and I’m enjoying it a lot more. I’m looking forward to replaying V. I have no idea what VI will be like. I’ve heard it’s a lower point in the series, but that’s what I heard about II as well, and I ended up loving it, so who knows. Dragon Quest is good.
---
Well, I managed to catch up. I didn’t get into the finer details of the DQ playthroughs, but DQIII is honestly so good I don’t want to spoil it for anyone (you should play these games). Maybe in August I’ll actually get back to watching and reading things. Maybe I’ll try to keep these things to a single paragraph per item, to make it more manageable to read. Let me know what you think, if you think.

The face of pure evil ~ The whole truth about Faeron’s dark passenger
Tumblr media
**To be warned, this is a long, and heavy going post, dealing with adult themes. If this even might possibly upset you, please don’t read it.**   Ever wonder where Faeron and Nico got their scars from? Or, why Faeron spent years pushing people away, despite being lonely? Ever wonder what I mean when I say, ‘Faeron, isn’t Faeron when he gets emotionally overloaded.’ Or,  ‘He’s terrified he will pull someone into his nightmares’?  You’re looking at him! This classy fella is Nicholas. He’s a slaver from Antiva, not to mention a class a psychopath who took a real shine to Faeron. He proceeds, even now in death, to torment, breakdown, beat, and abuse him, while whispering, it’s all in the name of his deep love for Faeron.  How the fuck is that possible?!  Well, let’s first go back to the start...
Tumblr media
5 years before the events of the game - Faeron’s first love tragically died in a hunting accident. A warrior from his clan, an elf by the name of Necen, slipped and fell on the ice. Unfortunately, as he fell, his head hit against a rock and he broke his neck. He died instantly, while Faeron watched in horror, knowing that even with all his magic, he could do nothing to save him.  Not that this stopped him from trying, even to the point of following him to the beyond and begging Necen to come back with him.  Necen just gave Faeron a smile, a gentle kiss on the forehead, and told Faeron he knew that wasn’t possible, but that he loved him all the more for coming and saying goodbye.  As you can imagine, this sent Faeron into a massive depression. For months he did nothing but softly shrug and cry when asked how he was holding up. He felt he was lost, and that he was alone.
4 years before the events of the game -  Through intense care from his family (Nico & Thalion) and his closest friends in the camp (who were best friends of Necen) a warrior named Leris, and a rogue named Jaralan, Faeron began to slowly piece himself back together.  Everyday was a challenge, but if there is one person in all of Thedas who can find beauty, and joy in the smallest of things, it’s Faeron.  Although he still hurt, he hated dwelling on the endless ‘what if’s’, he knew how hard everyone was trying, and he felt it was only fair to do the same. For them, for Necen, and for himself.
3 and a half years before the events of the game - Faeron was still very young (21/22) and had been alone, in every sense, for the past 18 months. Although he wasn’t ready to share his heart again, he did feel that he could possibly be ready for the odd, one time trysts, providing he wouldn’t have to see that person again. He just didn’t feel ready for the guilt that brought with it. He felt that he was in some way using them, or misleading them, which is why he only had the one. That is, until...
3 years before the events of the game - Faeron was emotionally stronger. He could think, and even talk about Necen and smile. Instead of the infinite pain and emptiness that filled him, Faeron felt blessed for the time they did share together. Things really did seem to be on the up... Alas... It was only to be a short term reprieve before the real shit storm hit. On a fairly routine visit to one of the local towns for supplies for the camp, the twins met a man who helped them with a rather unpleasant merchant. This man invited them both for lunch for their inconvenience, and abuse they had suffered, this man was, Nicholas.  Nicholas introduced himself as a traveling businessman who was based in Antiva, yet traveled all of Thedas. He portrayed himself as a handsome and charming man, with money, influence, and stories of wondrous sights he had seen in his travels.  Nico, highly suspicious in nature, couldn’t shake this cold shiver every time she caught this man’s eye, although she couldn’t fully understand why.  Faeron, by contrast, overly trusting in nature, was enthralled and more than a little enraptured. Especially when the compliments began, then the lingering looks, the smallest of touches, the warmth of his breath that tickled his neck and ear as he whispered to him...  Nico cut the events short after a sick, uneasy feeling overcame her with it all, she warned Faeron not to get involved with Nicholas, made him promise he would never see him again. Faeron agreed. It was the only lie he ever told his sister in all his life, and also the biggest regret of his life.  The two had already arranged a meeting for the following night, a few hours away from the twins camp. Faeron truly believed that his sister’s fury was due to Nicholas being human... But Faeron didn’t plan to elope with him! Merely spend a few hours in his company, nothing more. Faeron had known love, and this, wasn’t it. It was lust, so much more simple and easily dealt with, so long as Faeron kept the others safe, where was the harm in that?  The harm first came in form of poison. A highly illegal toxin, brewed in Tervinter through equal parts alchemy and blood magic, it completely suppresses all magic and strength, while keeping it’s victim lucid. It also bound Faeron to Nicholas. You see... Nicholas hid part truths in every lie. He was a businessman, if you call the slave trade a business that is, but he was also a man who had  very dark desires, and made a lot of money from them.  Something about Faeron enraptured Nicholas, a ‘beautiful gem, in this harsh and ugly land’. But Nicholas was greedy, taking just one elf, no matter how beautiful, was not enough, he wanted the camp, and he was going to get Faeron to tell him where it was. This time not through trickery, but violence, and abuse. While I wont go into detail... Faeron was abused and beaten from sun down to predawn. The first of the scars was the deepest, a long running deep gash on the left side of his head and face. Nicholas hacked and ripped Faeron’s hip length hair off in chunks. As Faeron pulled away, Nicholas blade caught just by Faeron’s temple, in a panic, Faeron flinched as the blade was dragged downwards. Faeron heard the blade scape bone... He thought he was going to die, yet remained as defiant as any man could when he couldn’t even hold himself up anymore.  When Nico arrived through mere intuition, she saw the carnage, the blood, and her brother. She thought he was dead until he slowly turned a beaten and blood soaked face towards her. All he could mumble was he was so sorry, and to run. Run away, and don’t look back.  Nico lost all composure, her rage boiled over and she charged... She managed to kill 4 of his men, before she was subdued by a massive brute of a man Nicholas kept close, his hands so large he could hold Nico up by her head with just one of them. She headbutted the brute and broke his nose, but Nicholas quickly stepped in. Nico’s face exploded in more pain than she had ever felt. After years of indulging in his perversions, Nicholas knew how to hurt people, and good punch in just the right place could tear a face wide open, which it did. Nico was pretty, but mouthy, she needed to be reigned in and although he had never had to deal with anyone quite so fiery, he did enjoy a challenge, and seeing Faeron suddenly become so very complacent, so eager to exchange her pain for his own, excited him.  Faeron begged, and preyed, and pleaded, if not for his own life, then for his sister’s, and something heard him. Something as gentle as Faeron, something that felt afraid and sad at the sights of this... soul.  Then a sound echoed through that grove that chilled Faeron’s heart to ice. The sound of his father’s hunting horn. Thalion lavellan is a protective parent. Faeron going wondering, that was one thing, but for Nico to be worried enough to leave camp in the middle of the night? That, was not a common occurrence. Shortly after his daughter left, he followed.  What had started as ‘one night of passion’ had turned into the death of his family. Memories are fuzzy after this point for Faeron, he remembers feeling sick, and the ringing in his ears becoming so loud he thought he was going to go deaf. Then he remembers feeling... Nothing. But not in the same way as becoming unconscious, he was aware of the nothing, but he couldn’t say if he trapped in a small box, or stranded in a massive cavern it was just, nothing.  What Nico witnessed is the only time in her life she has ever been truly afraid. Faeron’s body exploded with light, when she looked back he was standing, and there was no way he should be. Not after the beatings he had taken, his body was so mottled with purples and blues that she could hardly see any of his soft rose gold skin anymore. Not after losing that much blood. He was barely clinging to life moments before, and now he stood and turned his gaze to what little remained of Nicholas’ men. With the smallest wave of his hand the men, now fleeing, were crushed with an invisible force. Faeron, or whatever this was, wasn’t content with the cracks of bones... The force kept crushing until the glade rained red. The bute was next, as he charged toward Faeron, he simply lifted one finger and he was halted in his tracks. Faeron lifted his body with magic and ripped him limb from limb. Nico for once, didn’t know what to do. She wanted these men dead, and felt no sympathy for their ends... But that thing... That wasn’t Faeron. Faeron couldn’t do what this thing was doing, he wouldn’t not ever. But that was no demon that she had ever seen either. It was Faeron, but it wasn’t.  Nicholas was furious. The gold that Faeron alone could have brought him, not to mention he would mere only ever ‘rent’ Faeron. He was to be his personal plaything, and now this mess. There was nothing for it now. He’d have to kill his pretty gem, and make his escape.  But, when the spirit of comfort becomes one of retribution, it is not easily slowed. Faeron vaguely remembers his face felt warm, he thinks he remembers smiling at feeling something, anything, and not the nothingness that was almost crushing him... He did smile. It was the most terrifying sight Nico has ever seen. The ‘warmth’ had been Nicholas’ blade catching his face, and the blood that followed. His body pulled back, but not in time. This is where the scar over his eye came from. Faeron caught Nicholas and pressed his head against the same tree he had been lashed to, and he pushed. He pushed until the very roots of the tree screamed, and he kept pushing. He pushed until an explosive bang echoed out around them and the air was filled with splinters of wood and bone. Then Faeron remembers feeling cold. When he finally began to blink and see vague shapes and colours he began to stagger. He could hear Nico... and his Father... He needed to get to them, but he didn’t know why. He felt heavy, and so cold now, and his mind felt fuzzy. Like his brain was wrapped in thick furs. He remembers asking for help and then... Then he was back in that glade, with Nicholas, reliving something he knew that shouldn’t be possible. He was trapped in his own nightmare for two weeks while his body slowly rebuilt itself. Even then, it was a complete unknown if or when he would ever awake, and if he did, in what state. You see, Faeron, being a dreamer usually could easily control his dreamscape, or anyone else’s he wanted. But this poison the ‘blood’ part of the blood magic, was Nicholas’s own. Although this was not a predicted effect, something, some part of that dark egomaniac had clung on to life inside of Faeron, something Nicholas found quite poetic. Now Faeron would always be his, forever. After all, no one could know him like he would now. And so he sits and hides in the shadows, waiting for Faeron to be broken down by life until he can overpower him for a short time, have his fun, hurt him, and say it’s because he loves him in a way no one else ever could.  Faeron is strong, and maybe the spirit of comfort gives him the strength to keep him in his little dark place, Faeron would rather die and take that monster with him than ever let him loose.  A small group in his camp harboured great feelings of anger and resentment towards him when the whisperings of what happened (to an extent) got around. The son of the keeper off for illicit trysts in the woods with a shem? A slaver. He deserved what he got, and they wanted to finish the job. This rebellion was quickly quelled after Nico declared to the camp she would kill any man, woman, or child that dare approach her twin, and she made it all to clear this was no empty threat. She also went on to express her digest at the fact they were so quick to condemn the one person who would give his life for any one of them. Still, even to this day, there are those who still carry a grudge towards Faeron for his actions. No one could hate him more than he hates himself though. He lied to his family. He put his people at risk. He went against his sister’s wishes. In hindsight, he sometimes wishes he hadn’t survived that night, but then making a mistake is easy, living with it... That’s the hard part.
From that day to this -  Ever since, Faeron has become much more solitary than ever before. He tries to make peace with himself, to find happiness in the happiness of others, but he knows he’s lonely, and he’s too scared to let anyone close. If anyone he loved was ever hurt because of him... It would end up killing him. He couldn’t cope, his mind would shatter like a mirror hitting the floor. When he’s pushed and strained emotionally to the point of breaking, that same aura infects him and he can’t control it. Except that energy, that inquisitive, once golden bright comfort, is tainted now too, infected with blood that isn’t it’s own.  But Faeron is just as gentle, just as kind as he always was, he is also emotionally and physically scared. This is why when he gives himself to someone it means everything to him. Not only has he found someone he loves so much he wants to be with them, he’s found someone he feels accepts him, fully. Even the flaws... Someone he trusts so fully as to know all of him, and to stop him if they needed to. Nico has read, and reread books, stolen enchanted charms, bribed, threatened, and beat people for a name of a lead of man who knows a man, all in hopes of finding a way of ridding this monster from her brother. So far - Nothing has helped, but that doesn’t mean she’s ever going to stop looking. She has also become far more protective since then. Almost losing her brother was enough for her to know, she can’t ever lose him. As much as he believes that she’s the strong one, Nico knows how strong, and brave her brother is, and how beautiful he is for still seeing all those little things that make him smile. A lesser person would have been broken, or full of bitterness and bile after what happened, but not Faeron. He’s still too trusting, too caring, and too foolish for his own good, and she thanks the creators for it. For the day that her foolish and sweet brother and his gentle heart no longer sees the beauty in the smallest of things, is the day Thedas becomes shrouded in darkness, and the day she lays down her blade.

What’s Up With That Shit?
So, I thought it would be fun to do something besides just a standard review— welcome to “what’s up with that shit,” a (hopefully recurring) piece where I’ll look at an issue/aspect of the genre as a whole and ponder about what’s up with it. Hopefully by the end I’ll reach a conclusion, but who knows! It’s the journey, not the destination.
For the inaugural What’s Up With That Shit? I’m going to be looking at three 80s horror movies with surprising depictions of mentally ill villains, and picking apart 1) why I like them, 2) why their portrayals are unique/good, and 3) why we don’t see many similar portrayals anymore. Ready? Let’s kick this off.
What inspired me to do this was a movie I watched last night, called Pin (link to the full movie on YT). Released in 1988, Pin follows the life of two siblings, one of whom (the older brother, played by one of the actors from Cube) becomes obsessed with a medical dummy his father used to use to teach them (via ventriloquism). The brother, Leon, becomes obsessed with the idea that the dummy is alive, and this only worsens following the death of his parents. He murders his aunt and attempts to murder his sister, Ursula’s, boyfriend. She destroys the dummy, causing Leon’s personality to fracture (Pin takes over completely).
Leon is described at one point as a paranoid schizophrenic (versus having DID/MPD, but this is from the 80s so I think shitty understanding of mental illnesses can be given a mild pass), and his sister is hesitant to send him away, wanting instead to help him at home, where she can be there for him the whole time and support him. At the end of the movie, it is revealed that Ursula has found in-home care for Leon and visits him often, continuing to look after him despite Pin taking over completely. The horror of Pin comes from the tragedy of Ursula watching her older brother degrade and being unable to do anything; Leon’s not turned into a monster by the end of the movie— he’s still a human, and one who hasn’t been abandoned or forgotten either! Damn.
Next up, Mortuary. Now, this is a little more standard than Pin with regards to its portrayal of its villain, BUT, and that’s a big fucking BUT: the villain of this movie was not shaped by his own actions, but those of his father. Paul Andrews, Mortuary’s antagonist, is a high school boy working in a mortuary with his cold, verbally and emotionally abusive following the death of his mother (the parent he was close to). He’s portrayed as strange but isn’t hated by the other students— our main characters even sympathize with him. Later in the film, it’s revealed that the main girl’s father tried to get Paul help for his mental illness, but Paul’s father refused and the problem spiraled out of control to the point where Paul began killing.
The final movie I want to look at is Fade to Black, wherein another character, emotionally, verbally, and I believe physically abused (to an extent), winds up killing people who had harmed him (beginning with the aunt who had been abusing him since he was a child). I talked about this movie a little bit in my review of Butcher Baker Nightmare Maker, but it was the first movie I saw out of these three, and it immediately struck me with its portrayal of Eric Binford as a tragic character. Yes, he is the movie’s slasher, but rather than some supernatural force or blind hatred, Eric’s reason for seeking violent revenge is easily understood. It’s hard to fault him.
Now for the juicy bits: what’s up with these films? Why haven’t we seen even more portrayals of tragic mentally ill characters in horror, or just tragic villains in general? What’s up? The most modern horror movie I can think of with a mentally ill character is Split, which I haven’t seen due to the overwhelming shitstorm of a portrayal it is. I remember the outcry online leading up to the movie’s release, and hearing that the way it showed mentally ill characters was actively harmful— I don’t need to give any money or attention to that kind of movie. Then, what about all the horror movies with scary asylums, featuring titles like “Madhouse,” “Dark Asylum,” and “Insanitarium.” What the hell happened?
Unfortunately, it comes down to money, as many of these things do. If people are paying to see a horror movie, they want to be scared! Fuck the plot! Fuck the characters! Bring on the gore, bring on the tension, give me some damn nightmares! I enjoy horror movies with plot and I’ve fallen into this pit a lot, feeling unsatisfied when I sit down to watch a horror movie and it’s not scary. Mortuary is the scariest of the above three movies, but even then it’s too cheesy to really be scary. Horror movies that aren’t scary don’t sell, and, unfortunately, mentally ill people are an easy target. They’re not an audience film companies are afraid to alienate, meaning open exploitation.
All three of the films listed above, were, I believe, smaller budget films, which could also lend them the freedom to portray these characters as tragic versus simply as evil. There’s more pressure on big budget films to make back their budgets and appeal to target audiences, which also helps explain the apparent degradation of portrayals of mentally ill characters. I think this could also be expanded into a pretty interesting discussion of supervillains and their portrayals, though my expertise lies mostly with Batman, which is an interesting case: as Bruce Wayne he’s actively involved with villain support programs, sometimes offering villains jobs at Wayne Industries if they’re trying to reform, and he himself is shown to go to therapy as an adult, which is rare for superheroes.
Touching briefly on supervillains VS horror villains, though, I think there’s a less apparent outcry about supervillains because of the depth and attention they’ve received over the recent years (Harley Quinn having her own comic series and becoming a deep character, etc. etc. etc.) whereas horror villains with mental illnesses are JUST monsters. They’re given no depth, because depth doesn’t sell horror films, especially not to a broad audience. Horror CAN touch successfully on sensitive topics and provide interesting commentary (American Mary is a prime example), but that limits the interest in it. One of my largest gripes with the progression of horror is the expectation that viewers don’t want to think about the movies they’re watching. There does seem to be a shift away from mindless content, but there’s also an over-saturation of remakes. The 80s and, to an extent, the 90s, had a wealth of content that may not be as well-produced as its genre siblings, but provided viewers with real depth of settings, premises, and characters! Strange films, underground films, but DEEP films. Films that could get away with portraying mentally ill villains as still human.
What’s up with that shit? Like a disappointing amount of things, money is what’s up. Commercial success, broad appeal, and the need to make more than a film’s budget. Sucks, but c'est la vie. At least we’ve got a little pool of movies we can return to when we’re fed up with seeing bullshit like Split hit the big screens, and we can do our best to avoid contributing to sales for these kinds of movies. Making a small dent is better than making no dent, after all. Maybe we’ll see horror with a message start to leave the territory of independent films and hit big screens in the future. You never know

ELLIE GOULDING - SIXTEEN
[4.78]
Frustrated with America Online? Perhaps you would prefer a competitor whose installation plays a tune with the incisive lyric ''Just too stupid to stop!''
Scott Mildenhall: Credit where it's due: Ellie Goulding may have written the first big English-language song to retrospectively reference MSN. By 2019, that's surprising; unfortunately it's also the only surprising thing about the song. While it's not beholden of artists to draw solely from autobiography, this all feels far more legit than "ten dollars was a fat stack," as reminiscences go. It's good to have a bit of evocation with the blandness. [7]
Alfred Soto: The clatter of the percussion and the bold keyboards conjure the rush of a year when submitting to her hormonal urges required a trigger, preferably one cute enough to share shirts with. Although the lyrics are specific, some of them don't ring true: I knew nobody who planned their lives at sixteen beyond college. And beyond those flourishes the up-to-the-minute production functions as a straitjacket. Troye Sivan's "Seventeen" conjured the mess and horror with less strain. [5]
Katherine St Asaph: If I ran a pop culture site, I'd commission a huge bracket to settle once and for all the question: which age can claim the best songs? There are two problems with this idea. One is that I don't run a pop culture site. The other is that, between "Dancing Queen" and "Edge of Seventeen" and Ladytron and even Repo: The Genetic Opera, the winner is clearly 17. 16 has a lot of creepy classic rockers, Liesl in The Sound of Music, and this, which doesn't move that dial. [4]
Joshua Minsoo Kim: The chorus betrays everything "Sixteen" has going for it. The tropical house beat and vocal edits reset the song, like the sudden insertion of a montage in an already-existing (and far more detailed) one. [4]
Iris Xie: This is a song of mistaken identities and multiple faces, but instead of surprises, it's more basicness. When I first listened to this song, I clutched my face and went "oh my god! This song has been haunting me!" and then I kept listening and I was like "wait, it sounds like this song...and that song...and this song..." Then I realized that this sounds like an insert song for a Netflix film and that they both fit in the same mediocre aesthetic that has been taking all the tropes of previous pop classics, relentlessly mining and polishing them, and sending them out to be consumed over and over and over again. [2]
Jessica Doyle: This is basically "Young Turks" updated, which means more online chat, less teenage pregnancy, and more background vocal effects--which in this case seem to suggest that no matter how clear Goulding's voice sounds to the listener she's still perhaps not reaching the one person she wants to talk to most. I respect the result, even though the vocal muddle makes the song harder to listen to, and the old fogey in me refuses to acknowledge that "Two kids who kicked it on MSN" might work just as well as "Billy pierced his ears, drove his pickup like a lunatic." [4]
Isabel Cole: If you're going to build a song around such a specific declaration of teen nostalgia, it ought to capture something of the wide-eyed wonder or sparkling melodrama of adolescence--or at the very least its total idiocy. The only teenage feeling this brings me back to is being sixteen on a lazy Saturday afternoon, opening up a mediocre YA novel in the hopes of feeling understood and inspired, and finding instead the disappointment of a voice which wore too baldly the strain of an adult trying to channel a kid: palpably calculated, gracelessly "fun," entirely too staid to be lifelike. [3]
Iain Mew: Both Ellie and I were about a decade past sixteen when "Firework" came out, so that's a bit of melodic resonance that doesn't straightforwardly work. The alternative would probably just be one more song quoting Britney though, and the bridging in time goes with the rest of the song. What I appreciate about "Sixteen" compared to other bits of nostalgia is that it's not just focused on looking back. If the present-day concerns merely extend to wondering why there isn't any time anymore, that's all too real, and even when she is looking back, much of it is looking back at looking forward. As the repeated pulse slowly takes over the song, it's the sound of determinedly picking through the past and dragging it forward, not just remembering counting stars but doing something to feel starry eyed again. [7]
Alex Clifton: I'm a sentimental so-and-so with a long memory. I'm the kind of person who reads through teenage diary entries once every two months to remind myself of the person I once was. I have to ration it out, though, because in a lot of ways it hurts. When I was sixteen, I was in love with my best friend and hoped we'd have a long future together of being in each others' lives. That didn't pan out. I had dreams of getting a Ph.D in English by winning an international scholarship to Cambridge; that also didn't work out. I figured I would have a short story published by the time I was 20 and a novel ready to be published after college, in hindsight a very ambitious pipe dream. "Sixteen" hurts in a lot of ways because it reminds me what it felt like to dream, back before I had constant depression and anxiety issues that impeded my life, back when I was a person confident in who they were and what they wanted to do. My life has taken me in a different course--new friends, different locales, an entirely different career as a librarian--and I don't regret any of that. But I do regret losing the ability to dream and hope with recklessness. I've grown a lot since my adolescence, but that's one skill I wish I could get back. [7]

Familiar Faces
• Prologue •
Chapter 1 // Chapter 2 // Chapter 3
Tumblr media
Genre: Mafia!AU
Pairing: Wonwoo x reader (ft. the rest of Seventeen)
Word Count: 2.1k
Summary: When you make a wrong turn on your way to visit family, you end up meeting some familiar faces and unintentionally get sucked down memory lane. Now, you’re reliving the past along with your former best friend. The only thing is... he’s much more dangerous now than he was before.
• • •
“Recalculating.” The automated voice said for the fifteenth time on this stupid trip.
Your GPS was working like shit in this dead zone.
“You know what? Shut the fuck up.” You spat, turning the GPS off with a huff. You turned to look back out towards the road, noticing all the slightly familiar surroundings.
“I’ll just figure out how to get their myself.” You declared, beginning to navigate your way to your parent’s house in your head. You debated just going back home. You didn't even want to visit your parents, they never gave a shit about you. Yet here you were, still reaching out.
You were doing fine while on the highway. That was until you forgot which exit you were supposed to be taking. You hummed as you tried to remember. You passed exit 16, then 17, then 18.
“Ugh I don't know.” You scolded yourself, saying ‘screw it’ in your head before taking exit 19.
When you got off the exit, you merged into the right lane. You took a look around and recognized absolutely nothing. You sighed, knowing you were definitely lost. You decided that it would probably be a good idea to ask for directions at this point. So you looked for a place to stop. Which wasn't difficult because this was a pretty big city. Convenient.
You pulled into a hotel, because they meet people from everywhere, someone there must know their way around. You locked your car door and walked through the parking lot to get to the entrance of the hotel.
But your attention was caught by the distant sound of a gun shot. Distant, but not too distant. You guesstimated the shooter to be approximately 60 feet away. Memories from the past flooded your head. The alarming sound put you into an entirely different mindset, one that was ready for whatever was coming.
You see, your brother Changkyun used to be in this gang, before he was killed because of said gang. You were not a member of it, however you did work with them on occasion. You were an extremely skilled hacker. Technology was your language and his gang needed help sometimes. And unfortunately, you could never say no to your brother. You never fought though, you barely even knew how to hold a gun. However, working closely with a gang meant you witnessed a whole lot of death.
And that included the death of your best friend, Wonwoo. Whom you were actually in love with at the time. He didn't know the people you were involved with. He didn't deserve what happened to him. And you struggle with not blaming yourself for his death.
A rival gang, Seventeen, wanted you dead. Because as a hacker, you had every means of blackmail on them as possible. But the leader of the rival gang, S.Coups (who you knew extremely well because you had been kidnapped by him before) knew he couldn't kill you because Changkyun would kill him. So he did the next best thing.
He kidnapped your best friend.
You’re not even sure how he figured out the people you were close to. You were very discreet about your social life for that very reason. But none the less, they kidnapped Wonwoo and killed him. And that broke you.
That is actually what prompted you to finally leave that life behind and start a new one. You were now a Software Development Engineer, making a little over six figures a year. You had a great apartment overlooking the Seoul. You had some friends but no one super close, you couldn't bring yourself to try and replace Wonwoo.
A second gunshot brought you out of your thoughts.
You knew it was probably a bad idea, but you walked towards the direction of the gunshots. Your previous life bringing back memories just kinda drew you towards the sound.
You kept walking until you reached a sort of ally way. Yeah there was no way you were going down there. Not a chance. You decided to just drop it and go back to the hotel, so you turned around to head back.
That was your first mistake.
Before you could take another step, what seemed like a pillowcase was pulled over your head. And before you could scream, a cloth was pressed against your nose and mouth. You knew exactly what this was, chloroform. And the next thing you knew, you were unconscious.
You don’t know how long you were unconscious for, but you knew how bad this situation was. A million possible reasons went through your head, but only one stuck. S.Coups had finally found you and now that your brother was gone, he would kill you. You tried to pull your arms from your restraints, but no use. You were tightly tied to a chair. You sighed in exasperation and prepared for the worse.
You didn’t know exactly what would happen, but you certainly didn’t think what did happen would.
You heard a door open, and foot steps walk towards you. Then suddenly the bag that was over your head was pulled off abruptly, you hair flying in all directions. You blew the hair out of your face and shook your head a bit. You then looked up at the person who had taken off the bag.
He was quite cute, and looked a little younger than you. You felt a pang in your chest at the thought of someone so young being caught up in this life. But your first priority was getting out of here, and you knew exactly where you were. You had been tied to this exact chair in this exact room too many times before. You also knew that the only way to get out of this was by talking to S.Coups himself.
“I see S.Coups has been recruiting.” You said calmly. You were getting out of this alive, and the only way to do that was to not be intimidated.
Clearly he didn’t expect you to know his gang, most definitely not his leader. He didn’t say anything. He just looked at you with a surprised expression. He looked so innocent, but unfortunately you knew the horrors he has seen. You knew his innocence had been ripped from him.
“Look, I’ve been down this road too many times before. I’ve been tied to this chair too many times before. Just let me talk to S.Coups, please.” You said, clearly tired of this situation.
“They didn’t tell me you knew us?” He said, his voice deeper than you thought it would be. He seemed like a good kid, so you decided to indulge in this conversation.
“It’s been a little while but I used to be very familiar with the members of this gang. Especially your leader.” You say, sighing from the pain you were beginning to feel in your wrists due to your restraints. The boy noticed.
“Were you like... affiliated with us?” He asks cautiously, not wanting to overstep boundaries.
“Oh no, I used to sort of work with Monsta X. I’m sure you’re aware of who they are. But I have not been affiliated with anyone for over a year now. So I really don’t know what S.Coups is up to.” You admitted honestly. The boy looked at you like he wanted to help you. But you both knew he couldn’t.
“Out of curiosity, how old are you?” You then added. He looked a bit hesitant to answer. But it seems like he might have a bit of trust towards you now.
“I’m 20.” He says, and you almost flip out.
“Hold up what? S.Coups is recruiting kids now? Look kid I know you don’t know me but you gotta get out of this life. And believe me, I’m telling you this from experience.” You jumble out, completely baffled and quite frankly concerned for this kid.
“Hey I’m not even the youngest! Dino’s the youngest!” He defends, you understand. No one in this line of work likes being called a kid. But then the thought of someone being younger than him in this gang concerned you even more.
“Excuse me there’s someone younger than 20 in this gang are you kidding me? Where’s S.Coups I need to have a chat with him right now.” You say fidgeting to get out of your restraints. The legs of the chair scuffing along the floor at your movements.
And as if on cue, S.Coups opens the door and walks in. A few others behind him. All of which you recognize. Jeonghan, his right hand. Hoshi, the one that makes the drugs. And Woozi, the torture expert. You and Woozi have met under the most unfortunate and unforgettable of circumstances.
“Ah, there she is.” S.Coups smiles while clasping his hands together. You roll your eyes at his playful antics. You would probably be friends with S.Coups if he didn't kill your best friend. Murder kinda puts a damper on a relationship.
“Okay so you have a lot of explaining to do. But first off, why the hell have you recruited a 20 year old and apparently someone younger than that? Are you insane? They’re kids!” You burst, already wanting these ropes untied so you can hit him.
“They aren't kids anymore y/n. And they don't have anywhere to go. I’ve given them a family, you of all people should know that.” He explains, remaining calm and collected.
“Oh I of all people should now that, huh? Where’s my family, S.Coups? Where’s the only person I had that wasn't corrupted by a gang? Why don’t you tell me where he is? Or right, you killed him! My Wonwoo, you fucking killed him!” You spat, tears beginning to well in your eyes. But you held them back, there was no way you were going to cry in front of him. The other four in the room perked up for some reason, all looking at each other and exchanging similar looks. S.coups even seemed alarmed for a minute, before giving the four a look.
“Look, y/n. I didn’t bring you here to kill you. I brought you here because as much as I don’t want to say this... I need your help.” S.Coups then says, catching you off guard.
“You need my help? Need my help with what?” You ask, incredulously. Never in your life did you think S.Coups would ever come to you for help.
“There’s been a breech in our system. All our hideout locations are out there for everyone to see and we don’t know who did it. All we know is that it’s someone from another gang threatening us.” He explains, his seriousness coming back.
“And you want me to secure the breech?” You finish, already knowing what he wants you to do. He nods.
“You’re the best hacker I know, none of my guys have been able to do it.” He then says, earning an annoyed look from the 20 year old kid who’s name you still don’t know.
“I’m guessing you’re one of the hackers here.” You say, nodding towards the kid. He nods and looks down.
“Hey, this profession takes years master, you have time.” You assure, not wanting the kid to beat himself up. He perked up at that. And you turned your attention back to S.Coups.
“Alright, I’ll help you. But what do I get out of this?” You accept, but not without getting something in return. He looked pleased with himself, a smug look on his face. It made you feel uneasy.
“You get to join Seventeen.” He states, you’re eyes almost popped out of your head.
“What are you talking about? Why would I do that? Why would you want that?” You fired question after question, not understanding what was going on through his head. He looked at you with a different expression, a softer expression.
“Y/n, I’m sorry for trying to kill you. I’m sorry for what happened to your brother. And I’m sorry for Wonwoo. I let hatred for your brother alter my opinion of you, and that’s not right. It wasn't your fault he was in Monsta X. And I’m sorry for that. But you have skills. And more importantly, you have morals. You would be a fine asset for this gang. And we would protect you like family.” He suddenly said, all at once. That was a lot to take in. But for some reason you found his offer quite appealing. You had to admit you missed the action, missed the feeling of doing something important and useful. Missed a family...
You guess that’s what prompted you to agree to this. And S.Coups then ordered the young kid to untie your wrists. And as soon as the were off, you stood up and hesitated before walking closer to S.Coups.
“I forgive you. And I’m sorry for trying to blackmail you guys.” You said holding out your hand for him to shake. He did and chuckled, a genuine smile gracing his lips. All the animosity left you two in that moment.
“Welcome to Seventeen, y/n.”
