Thoughts on gumwrightworth?

In short:

I ADORE these three,, so mushing them all together is the PERFECT thing. I also have A Lot to say on this so hold on, this is gonna be a ride.

I firstly wanna talk about all the pairings separately. I do not feel like going over why Wrightworth is good because it has been repeated to DEATH and everyone who has internalized it knows everything I could possibly say about them already, so I shall refrain ☺️.

Gumworth is SO GOOD THOUGH,, and I’m happy to find the Gumworth people of Tumblr through me stealing someone else’s blog banner XDD. Edgeworth is such a tough boss, and Gumshoe’s admittedly a little dim at times, which isn’t an ideal trait for a detective. But somehow they just work so well together 💞 Gumshoe tries SO HARD to help Edgeworth,, and genuinely cares for him to an amount that is WILD for just being a boss-employee relationship. He has an adoration for Edgeworth, and has been there for him since his very first case.

Because of the longevity of their relationship paired with the implication that he and Edgeworth are CONSTANTLY placed on the same case,, I refuse to believe that Edgeworth DOESN’T care for Gumshoe in some way or another. Besides his adoptive family (which are not the type of people to be all lovey-dovey), Gumshoe is the only person to stick with him throughout his entire prosecutorial career. He’s seen him at his absolute worst and still has this unshakable faith in him, which MUST have some value to him considering all of the doubt that’s been cast not only on his career, but his overall moral standing as he put one innocent person after another in jail in his Bratworth era that he did everything to rectify after his year-long sabbatical post 1-5.

People tend to overlook Gumshoe’s sadness during that disappearance, like NO ONE KNEW EDGEWORTH WAS ALIVE. A lot of people (myself included) tend to focus on Phoenix’s feelings during the second game, as he is the mc and he get his thoughts on the matter WAY more than we get Gumshoe’s. But he’s clearly distraught as well, and how couldn’t he be? We saw how much he cared for Edgeworth during case 1-4,, and again he works with him constantly. He must’ve seen the way Edgeworth’s spirit dwindled from the day he was arrested for Robert Hammond’s murder to the day he left that letter, and feared the worst. He may have blamed himself for not showing Edgeworth he was there for him to the extent that he wanted to, and that kind of guilt would be EXCRUCIATING to live with for a year. There’s a bit of leeway with Phoenix in this situation, as Edgeworth shut him out time and time again because they were technically enemies in court, and he also isn’t one to want to relive his past. But Gumshoe was meant to be his sidekick, his confidant (his silly rabbit /ref). He would feel like he failed his job in absolutely every way if he thought Edgeworth couldn’t trust him enough to open up even a little when he was struggling the most.

Angst aside, their relationship runs DEEP. And as much as I love Wrightworth,, I love exploring every avenue in terms of shipping and it BOTHERS me that more people don’t see their potential. Like I think them and Wrightworth are tied in my mind for best ship in Ace Attorney.

As for Gumwright,, PEOPLE DO NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THEIR POTENTIAL ENOUGH AND THAT BOTHERS ME. One pet peeve I have whenever I see Gummywrightworth is it feels more like traditional polygamy than more all-way polyamory. It feels like Edgeworth’s the glue binding them together, and that Gumshoe and Wright don’t feel any type of way about one another,, and that is SUCH A CRIME. It is SO NICE to think about the juxtaposition between the Gumworth work relationship and the Gumwright one, and in turn how different they would both be in a romantic setting. Whereas Edgeworth doesn’t particularly need Gumshoe’s help most of the time and loves to do everything and make all the deductions himself, Wright often NEEDS Gumshoe’s help to progress because he has access to things Wright often doesn’t. Whether it’s evidence, reports, prosecution’s strategy, or real-time forensic analysis,, Gumshoe has COME THROUGH for Wright time and time again. His help is absolutely invaluable to Wright’s investigations, and without him as a resource quite a few of Wright’s clients likely would’ve been declared guilty. But that’s not to say Wright is useless. It’s just that Gumshoe oftentimes has that one missing piece that Wright needs.

The way Edgeworth and Wright both interact with Gumshoe is also very different. Edgeworth’s a little more dismissive of Gumshoe (particularly in AAI 1+2), and he often scolds Gumshoe for his missteps. But while Wright at the beginning is often pushy in order to get Gumshoe to help in the first place (as he’s instructed not to help the defense), but when he actually begins helping, Wright is quite kind to Gumshoe. Although he recognizes that Gummy’s a little dumb at times, he still values his insight, as Wright can also be a little dumb about things that should be obvious to someone with a law degree. It’s like they’re two halves of a braincell coming together to bounce around for a bit during the PW Trilogy’s investigation segments. I just. THEY’RE SO NICE TO EACH OTHER 💞 of course they’re aggressive to one another at first, but as they take on the same cases they grow friendlier and closer. And when they’re in a trial,, Gumshoe treats his testimony like a game. he always needs to announce that Wright’s “not gonna get him this time!” I just find them really cute,,, and I’m disappointed in this fandom for not considering them as a pairing more often. Like if you guys are not gonna write enough Gumwright fics, I will DO IT MYSELF.

Now the differences and similarities between these two pairings come together to form Gummywrightworth, and it is beautiful. It brings a tear to my eye just thinking about it. The three of them have faced the bulk of their hardships in the first trilogy together, and because of this, they would all grow so close to one another. None of them seem to have many other people to cling to who would understand their troubles,, but they all understand each other because they were THERE. They were all there for one another during the good and the bad times throughout the trilogy, and they all celebrated together when it was finally over. Not to mention I think that Gumshoe and Wright’s puppy energies could help mellow Edgeworth out a bit. It’s a well-balanced relationship with lots of history to back it up,, and the three of them all work so well together, and it’s impossible to tell me they all don’t deeply care for each other. They are so amazing.

The fact that she notes that David called their CHRISTIAN neighbors sends me. Can’t have people thinking that ATHEISTS or MUSLIM neighbors watched their kids in an emergency!

Also further down in that post she says that she serves a “supergod”. Like what level of god is that? God’s final form in a boss fight?

But truly…poor Olivia. Her birthday and her “fun fact” in church introductions is all about the miscarriages. She doesn’t even get the “servant’s heart”, “loves Jesus”, “obedient” descriptors that Jill gives the other girls. Just “happy birthday here’s how I almost died several times before, during, and after having you.” I bet the only thing that Jill’s actual online fans know about Olivia is her graphic birth and Jill’s losses.

I know, the Rods focus on "separateness" is so weird as someone who grew up semi-mainstream lol. My church was and is extremely flawed but like most similar churches they put a big emphasis on mingling with people of different backgrounds because it was seen as Jesus-like (and helps conversion rates lol). Having a Muslim or Jewish friend at a party would give you like, church street cred whereas for the Rods it's the opposite. Even inviting someone in a v-neck tshirt would be too much for their fragile constitutions.

I was reading an old blog post of Jill's someone posted on reddit, where she was talking about being SO angry that other people think life is just "one big party", while *she's* suffered through so many pregnancies and health issues and poverty because she knows it's what Jesus wants. And it just gave me a little light bulb moment about why she might talk about her bloody placenta every year on Olivia's bday post, I really think she thinks other people view her suffering in the same way she does as like this extremely sacred and rare thing (extra rare bc she's done it 12 times!), bc she can only see life through cult colored lenses. She believes her suffering is an example of her dedication to God, so she takes any excuse to brag about it thinking other people will look at her like she's just the holiest lady on the planet. I don't think it even crosses her mind that most adults find it bizarre and off putting to make your child's bday about their violent entry into the world every single year (and if it does I'm sure she believes only ignorant secular heathens would think such things).

Hamsteak Liveblog

A'ight hell tier update, and the first update is that they've changed the chapter select menu. It's now explicitly a chapter select where the chapters are numbered, whereas the old menu made it look like you were meant to choose your own order. Up next is "Chapter X", which appears to be Davepeta. My prediction is that we're done with the ghost cameos and Davepeta is going to give the moral of the story and then the final 8-ball update with be Vriska vs Vriska to bring it home.

I am almost immediately proven wrong. This is a "Meanwhile" where Davepeta is up to something. Is this screenshot even legible? Well, if you can't read it, computers can.

That background kind of makes me think of the Midnight Crew, but like the original Problem Sleuth bonus comics that introduced them where they were in some Problem Sleuth-y looking city.

Sort of interesting that Jasprose and Davepeta apparently don't like each other. Jasprose's main character trait in HS1 was being uninhibited and kind of uncomfortably horny, and she's Davepeta's....um....cousin? I guess? Where did I put that Homestuck family tree. Oh, I didn't add her, lemme do that.

The most cursed thing about this chart is that it's simplified.

The reason Vrissy's in "adoption jail" was because I made this chart for someone complaining that Vrissy dating Tavvy was incestuous, when Vrissy is basically the only character not related to anyone (this blog's tagline was "It's not incest if she's from space" for a bit as a result). Which makes this ironic because I think the reason Davepeta doesn't like Jasprose is that Jasprose keeps trying to fuck them.

One thing that's been bugging me a lot about HS2 and the epilogues is Homestuck already had a metaphor for canon in the form of the Alpha Timeline, and HS2 never really separated "canon" from "the alpha timeline" in a meaningful way, but now we're having the snapchat comics and the Problem Sleuth bonus comics references as "canonically deniable", so we're actually doing something new with the concept.

Wait, hold on. Is this referring to the bonus comics? Dad Crocker is chasing after Jane who was kidnapped by Jasprose....but that's all in Meat! So this Jasprose is currently with the Meat version of Jane Crocker, being chased by Dad, Diamonds Droog, and possibly Problem Sleuth, and is somehow able to interact with Candy.

Maybe it's because Jaspers barely had any lines, but it's interesting how Jasprose is a unique individual with her own unique quirks while Davepeta is still very clearly Dave+Nepeta. She doesn't really talk like Rose at all. She's a little flowery in her language, but in a very different way.

Davepeta: Jasprose....you've been drinking? Jasprose: Please. You know it's only milk bars for me. Well, perhaps the occasional martini bar. Though with them, it's more difficult to find bartenders that won't bat an eye when I order a glass of that delectable matronal ambrosia Jasprose: Speaking of, I've made fantastic progress with the enchanting, yet problematic Ms. Crocker.

Man, that leap from "matronal ambrosia" to Jane Crocker is one of the most convoluted boob jokes I've ever seen. Speaking of, Jasprose finds Jane "enchanting". I kind of want to re-read the bonus comics to refresh myself on the context but they're glitching the fuck out for me right now and also....aren't very good.

This is referring, presumably, to Meat Jake, who I don't think has appearing in HS2 at all so far, having been ditched in the epilogues. I honestly thought we wouldn't be seeing Meat Jane/Jake again. Also, "pass her off"? To whom?

Anyway apparently Davepeta thinks the "therapy shit" isn't working well. Interesting to see them dropping the wise mentor act a little here. They also make it sound like this is something they're being compelled to do. Jasprose notes that it's been four years in there and that being Vriska it'll probably take 4 more to make it 8 and Davepeta is all "Ha ha, can you imagine" so the final chapter is obviously going to start "4 years later". This was a fairly short little chapter with a ton to speculate on. The sprites are working together and they're maybe working with (or for) someone else that Jane is going to get passed off to. Who could that be, I wonder? Dirk's made reference to having agents on the outside, but why would the sprites work for him? It's not Al, who was actively opposed to this. Could it be....

I don't know to what extent real-life person Andrew Hussie is involved with Beyond Canon, but his fictional stand-in has been mostly absent outside of the bonus comics, and has not yet appeared on-screen, but considering that Al has been shown to be nigh-worshipful of the original comic, it'd be interesting for her and AH to interact.

Dear friend, prepare to get absolutely motherfucking BODIED.

This is the 1982 Nissan Pulsar NX (Pulsar EXA in Japan and Australia), and it’s not the car we are interested in.

The Pulsar NX was a way Nissan devised to get a more youthful and exciting coupe out of the underpinnings of the Nissan Pulsar/Sunny/Cherry (or even Holden Astra, if you’re feeling weirdly Australian), …conventionally unappealing little sedan and hatchback. Ah, right, I’ve still not made the body styles master explainer - let me brief you very quick. The above is a coupe, a car with two doors and a trunk compartment that is separate from the cabin. When the doors are four, it’s what you see below, a sedan.

Whereas a hatchback is one with a rear hatch that contains the rear windshield, making the trunk compartment part of the cabin.

See what I meant with the “conventionally unappealing”, eh.

Well, in 1986 the base Pulsar/Sunny/Cherry/Sentra/so on received an update, and thus the Pulsar NX based on its guts was updated with it.

And if your brows are furrowed by unfamiliarity and not by the painful realization of how hard our poor submitter is about to get pulverized, you must understand that this car’s body style is… rather unique.

In late ‘60s America, word started spreading that the Department Of Transportation would ban convertibles due to the awful lack of shit between passenger heads and pavement when they decided to change side - thus began the popularity of “targas” like this here NX (though manufacturers called them a lot of different names because Porsche copyrighted that word).

In a targa, instead of both roof and rear windshield all folding down behind the cabin, the roof is a solid panel (or, as in this case, two) that is removed and stored away and the rear windshield stays there, on the rear structure that remains at the service of body rigidity and occupants safety. And personally that feels extremely genderfluid to me.

But of course, there are many targa coupes, so this would not be such a peculiarity. But the thing is, while this car has two doors and a trunk compartment separate from the interior and thus a coupe, it can also be argued a hatchback since it has a hatch that includes the rear windshield.

But why in tarnation would they design a rear hatch like that when, since it doesn’t create any more room above the trunk, it has no cargo space advantage? Well, remember how one key difference between targas and convertibles is that in the former the rear windshield stays in place? Well, here it does stay in place, if you want to. If you don’t, though, you just take it off.

So the Pulsar NX is a coupe that is also a hatchback and a targa and a cabriolet. Except that now, as you can see, the rear compartment is open. So arguably it’s also a pickup - or, if you will, a ute. (It’s doing that weird thing it does sometimes with post submissions where it keeps me on the old editor where I can’t change text color so please pretend that link is the trademark ‘link to a related things-about-cars-in-posts post’ blue.)

But then you’d at least want a canvas cover or something just in case it rains and your rear passengers and/or cargo don’t like rain, right? So indeed, here’s the optional canvas canopy.

Meaning it could also have both a fixed glass rear windshield and a folding plastic one, making it both a hardtop convertible and a soft top one.

But what if you wanted to transport too much cargo to fit under the hatch -or the canvas cover- but you still wanted to have it protected, as you could do in a ute with a rear canopy?

Well, folks, I truly saved the best for last.

Because this thing is not just a coupe, a hatchback, a targa, a soft top convertible, a hardtop convertible, a pickup and a ute. It’s also a shooting brake. (Again, pretend that’s blue.)

You see now why the rear hatch hinged like that.

So while this is a post about a most [specific sexual identity or orientation] car, I am not, as per tradition, offering other options nor a vote between them, because democracy does not apply to matters of fact. (And also again I’m stuck on the old editor.)

Anon mentioned that everyone were focused on Tom during his R+J run. That is true, as well the fact that Z was not in the same focus when she had her dune and challengers tours, a lot of those blogs only paid attention to her when Tom was mentioned. I just find it sad that she is always sidelined in favor of her bf by people who say that they are her fans. Why lie?

Tumblr, at its core, is a reblogging site. It's all about sharing. That's just the nature of the app.🤷🏾‍♀️

It's actually a little more rare (I've found) that accounts answer asks, especially these days. I think some Anons have unfortunately abused the Anon Ask feature, and some blogs just don't feel that it's even worth it anymore. 😩🤷🏾‍♀️

I myself have even toyed with the idea of just getting rid of anonymous asks on my blog just altogether, because some really do abuse the feature and use to it to troll, or send in hate, backslash, or anti-ism. After a while, you just get tired. 😔 So I actually don't blame some for turning off anonymous asks or deciding to not even bother at all with asks period on their blogs because SOME fans in SOME fandoms can be a bit much. 👀😵‍💫

Really? 🥴 I actually feel like it's the opposite. I've been saying on here for a while now that it's very hard for me to find Tom-solo blogs that are dedicated to just him, and are not tied back to his relationship with Zendaya, or focused mainly on Tomdaya content.

Whereas, I feel like it's a bit easier for me to find blogs of other actors that are mostly just dedicated to them only, and not necessarily on shipping his relationship with his gf. I even see way more solo Zendaya blogs on here dedicated just to her than I see if Tom only blogs. But maybe that's just me. 🤷🏾‍♀️

I don't mind who blogs are "primarily" a fan of, just as long as they aren't Antis (or throwing shade at either one of them in a mean way). After all, many fans probably found the Tomdaya fandom from various different avenues. There are plenty of blogs to follow on Tumblr and have on your dash. So that way, if one isn't giving you the content, "discussion", or "excitement" that you're looking for, there are others on your dash that you follow.

Also, keep in mind that some fans might just be a fan of the Tomdaya relationship, but aren't necessarily huge fans of them separately. 🤷🏾‍♀️

All I'll say is that I know that SOME Tomdaya bloggers may have refrained from posting a lot of content during the Dune 2 and Challengers press tour due to fear of Timdaya shippers, and anyone-but-Tom shippers of Zendaya with her male costars. 🤷🏾‍♀️ Some just don't want that headache. 😩 And we all know how much craziness went on with Z and the threesome scene with her two male costars in Challengers. 👀 Some just don't want that stuff in their inbox. So they don't post much about it.

Do you follow @tomdayaland on Tumblr? Because she tends to post a LOT of content that not only pertains to Tomdaya the couple, but also to Tom and Zendaya separately. She's usually good at posting up-to-date info on anything Tom or Z-related. 😊

I don't usually do this, but I thought I'd ask for your opinion given the fact that we're of similar age and you seem really smart :)

So I'm turning 23 in 2 weeks and I feel.. stuck

I feel like I can't separate myself from my family (who aren't very supportive haha) and subsequently, I feel an intense need to leave and be independent. But I can't grow in the things that I love because I feel like a song as I don't do what they want me to do, then I'm not entitled to the things I want to do. Besides that, I suffer from anxiety and depression, and I just can't bring myself to develop in any way.

I feel like I'm stuck in my own little dream world that I created, and the biggest problem is that you don't want to leave. I wonder if you have ever been in a similar situation or if you just have any advice

I’m not usually this vulnerable/open about my personal life online either, but:

Funny enough, (hardly funny at all actually), I am in the exact situation as you are 😭. My family is not supportive of my growth at all. They don’t know much about my dreams, and what they do know, they use against me. They reduce my interests in things like literature and music to signs of immaturity and lack of real discipline. What my family wants is obedience. They care about me as a daughter, but do not care about me as a person. At all. I cannot be my full self around them. I cannot share my dreams with them. I have learned to avoid sharing myself with them, to keep them from gaining more ammunition to use on me when they want to belittle me, call me unrealistic and incapable, punish me for being some way that disagrees with them, etc. They definitely do not know about my blogs/vlogs, haha. I feel like I’m more myself here than in everyday life.

I feel stuck too. All I can do is develop my mind in my free time through literature and media I find online, at night when I’m finally alone and no one expects anything from me. I suppose if I had any advice it would be to stay curious, keep learning, and keep discovering the things you like and want.

It’s hard. You love them, you want them to love you, you’ve done so much for their approval but they’re never really satisfied, you’ve never done enough, maybe you have a sibling who is half as disciplined as you are yet is effortlessly favored whereas you are not, despite having put in twice as much effort for that approval they so effortlessly receive 🙄😔. They might have more freedom than you do, because maybe you were born as a gender you cannot control, and despite how smart you might be, you cannot control that they will only ever see you as a woman, who should perform the “female” duties of the house, stay at home, work remotely, whereas your sibling is conveniently male, granting him freedom that you can’t have, because he does not have the responsibilities that were forced on you. By “you” I meant me. Yet, I don’t want to sever myself from my family, they are all I have. Ugh. Anyway, I have to help take care of my family because they’re the only people I have, but it inhibits me from growing. It’s such a confusing place to be in. And depressing and unfair and it makes me feel so so alone. I know I said in a previous Q&A that you should leave the people who don’t appreciate you at your most authentic, but in the case of family, it’s a bit different. It’s complicated.

I really wish I was in a position to give advice on this. I need it too.

But, I hope a window opens up for you soon; some opportunity to help you out of where you are in life, if that’s what you dream about. If that opportunity takes a while, I hope things aren’t too hard on you in the meantime. I see you, you’re not alone.

Hi, what do you think it's the biggest difference between the UK's royal family and Sweden's royal family that makes the swedes look like a real, normal-ish family and not like robots like the brits? (Also I love your blog!)

Thank you, that’s very sweet of you :) So it’s hard for me to answer why that might be because I don’t necessarily agree it's that simple. My family are highly dysfunctional and we don’t display our emotions so we are far more like the Brits than Victoria and Daniel lol. That is my normal. And then Carl Gustaf is more closed off than any British royal in my opinion (watch out for the podcast this week where we’ll be discussing it)!

It’s fair to say the Swedish royal family are as a unit more open. And that comes from lots of things like the presence of children at events, the higher level of press access which captures more of those candid moments and behind the scenes glimpses, the culture of giving more interviews and speaking on record more (e.g. Victoria will likely do a short interview with the press wherever she goes whereas the press are largely observers in the UK) and literally the physical distance e.g. Carl Gustaf celebrates his birthday in the courtyard where people gather and he takes flowers from children, then he goes to a window balcony overlooking the courtyard which the public can easily see, whereas over here they’re on a balcony which is behind a courtyard with armed guards which is behind a wrought iron gate. They are physically separated from people far more, you just see them as tiny little dots in the distance. They’re just different, they come from different cultures with different traditions and are expected to behave in different ways.

I've been using the new Tumblr desktop dashboard for a few days now and I have some Thoughts that I thought would be useful to put out in to the wild. Most of the reaction I've seen has been...abnormally harsh about this UI update, so I think it would be interesting to actually go through the changes and point out what I like, what I don't, what I think could use some improvement, and maybe break down a little about why those Twitter comparisons are way off the mark.

More below the fold, but the tldr for me is - I think it's great! At the end of the day, I feel like I use the desktop version of Tumblr more and more since the change. Whereas before I used to just pick up my phone and refresh the app, now I get a hit of dopamine flipping over to the Tumblr tab when I need a work break.

The change is clean and logical, and as someone who came to Tumblr a year ago and still never quite grokked what all the icons at the top meant, having them spelled out is much nicer than guessing what they mean, even for someone who has become more familiar with the site. And to be clear, from what I can tell that's the goal of this change - to make it easier for newer people to use Tumblr and find their way around. Despite all the hate this change is getting, that is an unabashedly good thing.

The Left Nav

It's really, really clean. The old dash had a lot of unused space on the left, it makes sense to carve some of that out to have a menu that actually lays out what each icon means. The font size and style is comfortable without overcrowding. It just feels more...confident? Like these are the features Tumblr has. Use them! It's also just a more familiar web browser experience for anyone who has been using web apps since the dawn of email.

The badges also fit much nicer with the left nav. They don't float above an unclear icon, they're right next to what it says on the tin. You got 20 new posts to read, buddy. 5 new notifications. 1 anon ask. It's just better on my eyes.

I do understand the gut reaction that things are "too" cluttered. One of the first things I did was snooze Tumblr live and that helped me out a lot. Just removing all of the noise of live tags and loading-in thumbnails of people I'm not interested in watching went very far. It brought the post content further up on the screen.

Explore

I didn't even know what Explore was used for before. It was a compass icon. I think I thought it was some kind of search? I can't remember if I ever clicked on it before. Explore is much more interesting to me. It makes me curious. For a site that struggles with getting new users to find new content, it's a beacon that says "Find some cool new stuff!"

My problem with Explore is that clicking on it...doesn't get me much. The landing page just takes me to a feed from @todayontumblr that almost never has any content that I'm interested in. The "For You" tab on my regular dash is where I go mining for new blogs, along with "Your Tags." If Staff finds this change leads to more Explore click-throughs, I'd love if the tab itself get some love and made it a hub for finding new content easier. Maybe mixing up a feed of any tags you're following, trending posts, and other algorithmically sorted goodies that I'll want to take off the shelf and put in my chronological dash. I want it to be a place with the goal of encouraging me to follow new blogs.

Live

The transition to the Live page doesn't feel good to me. You're taken to a totally different kind of page, and the UI jumps all the way to the left. It feels like you're going to a separate site. At least when you snooze Live it also removes the menu item. That's really nice! But I'll save Live thoughts for another day.

Activity/Messages/Inbox

I never knew how much I suspected these things were a bit redundant, but I'm glad now that they're separated and labeled correctly. I don't have to remember what the face icon/mail/lightning bolt all mean or why they're different. Things are much cleaner in that regard.

I don't really care for the popups when you click on them. Those do feel cluttered to me, like I'm going to lose sight of my dash, or the notifications. I don't have much UX advice here, other than to say I think I prefer how the Inbox is handled, where you're just taken to a full page view of the page. However maybe another solution would be how the Account and Settings icons are conducted...

Account/Settings

This is the section that sold me on the new dash. On the old dash, I found navigating the Account and Settings options...ephemeral. I was afraid I was going to lose my place if I didn't find the menu I needed. Here, having them slide out as a drawer, keeps me in place and lets me orient myself easier. It's made exploring settings overall frictionless. I've changed dash palettes like ten different times just because I could and it was easy to find. Maybe something similar for inbox/messages/activity would make the UI feel more consistent and less overcluttered-feeling?

I do notice that the Account dropdown adds a new scrollbar which makes things like the t logo and badges jump to the left. That can be a bit disorienting.

TumblrMart/Get a Domain

The Get a Domain menu item is fine, but TumblrMart feels like it needs some love. On a new refresh, clicking the icon loads for a total six seconds before the mart pops up. By this point, if I wasn't intentionally testing, I would have just moved on. Again, I also just don't like pop-ups like this. Feels loosey. Much prefer the full-spread domain page you get.

Create

This is maybe my least favorite change. Every time I switch to my Tumblr tab, I see it in the bottom left and think it's the "Where were we?" button. When I do want to create a post, it feels like I have to travel far to get to the button, and then I have to travel again when the dots come up to select what type of post I'm making.

I wonder if just tucking it at the bottom of the menu under "Get a domain" would be better? Or at the top of the menu? Not sure. I feel in my jellies there's a better spot for this one.

On Twitter

If I can address the most frequent criticism I see on this site, which is that @staff are trying hard to "ruin" Tumblr by "turning it into Twitter," I understand that gut reaction.

But I'd encourage folks to think about that for a minute. UIs change, and a left-aligned nav is extremely common for a reason. Since the dawn of email, menu navigation has been relegated to a left sidebar. Twitter is not "burning to the ground" because their nav bar was on the left. Having a left sidebar means literally nothing in the grand scheme of what makes a website what it is.

What, truly, has this nav update changed? It does not change the functionality of the site at its core at all. It doesn't change what you can post, how you can post, what content you find, reblogs, or tags. For a site that struggles with new users "getting" the site and finding their way around, this nav change makes it much easier to settle in with something a bit more ubiquitous to the modern browser-viewing experience.

Thus leading me to believe the only reason people hate on this change so vehemently is they don't want to see new users or any effort at all to attract them at all, and I think that's exclusionary crap. Knock it off.

Change is Scary!

That said, the change is scary! Having your muscle memory interrupted isn't fun and can take a while to get used to. Every change has a growing period. I get that. For me, I got over that period fairly fast, but I recognize this process is different for everyone, especially those who have been around here for a lot longer than I have.

The change is also open for valid criticism. There are usability and likely accessibility concerns for sure. Staff needs time to iterate, and they need to know what problems are actually worth fixing and addressing. "I hate it turn it back" doesn't help anyone - it doesn't help Staff, and it doesn't help new users who are trying find a new place on the internet to call home after *shakes fist at the rest of the internet.*

I really like this change as a starting point, and I can't wait to see it iterated on further.

And on a small end note, if you also have thoughts and opinions that you want to tell Staff, please, please, please remember there are other human beings on the other end of line.

Your posts about 1910 Montreal fashion sent me on several tangents. I found a post on a genealogy blog that said the pigeon-breast was mostly gone by 1910, but that was focusing more on American and Europe. Which made me wonder if Canadian fashion was a little behind. Then I went, hey, I wonder when my two sets of great-great-great grandparents who were born in Ontario moved to Saskatchewan. (It looks like very early 1900's or late 1890's.) Now I'm wondering how different the fashion in a small farming community in Nowhere, Sask would have been from Montreal. Looks like it might have been near a railway, so maybe not that different.

Okay, so I did some looking at Saskatchewan papers from the same period (July 1910) to see what the direct comparisons were in terms of ads and fashion tips. And it seems to me (at least from these examples) that we're looking at a similar silhouette as in Montreal but less extravagant patterns and fabrics. These images are specifically from Regina and Saskatoon, because those are the papers i could find with actual illustrations, but I imagine by 1910 smaller towns, especially with railroads, are going to look pretty similar to larger towns in the same area.

We definitely still have that large breast/small hips thing going on, although these images seem to emphasize the difference a little less. I don't know if that's an actual silhouette difference or if it's just different artists producing the images. There seem to be more separates than we saw in Montreal. I definitely saw much, much less emphasis on driving attire (I'm not sure I saw a single reference to a car anywhere), and a lot more ready to wear. Some of the latter is because these images are sourced from advertisements, rather than the fashion column because the fashion column in these papers was usually not illustrated. So it's more 'here's what you can buy!' and less 'here are ideas for what to make at home!'. I also, amusingly, didn't see a single ad for corsets anywhere in the Montreal paper, whereas over in Saskatchewan they are still being prominently advertised. Clearly the Montreal women were still wearing them -- you don't get those silhouettes without help -- but I guess it was becoming passe to advertise them in the newspapers in Montreal.

New Rome, maybe? Working on a map, Sobbing in the back rooms-

Summary; I lie about talking about anything of substance, and am thinking about starting a companion in character blog, I’m caving on my plushie obsession, I lie about what I’m gonna post about because it’s gonna be Dakota or the Dionysus twins

I’m tired and slightly unhinged while writing this, but so far I’ve made a total of 5 maps roughly, of various designs of Camp Jupiter. I still have to actually uh, make a proper map; but then I’d have to decide what actually everything was looking like, buildings, how training actually works in CJ and where that takes place; etc, etc. anyway I’m not here to sob over that (yet- especially after I’m doing the whole ‘but what if it was more alike to the og legion??’ Shtick)

But for now I’m gonna talk a little about my concepts for and what we know about New Rome, layout, buildings, and other things based on a mix of various canon maps, actual historical records of Roman city structure, general assumption, and descriptions of New Rome (mostly that would be from SoN and MoA i think- I’ll have to go re-read the New Rome parts respectively before I begin layout work-)

HOWEVER,

I’m going to start a notebook specifically for the documentation and my thought process of the whole New Rome/Camp Jupiter/PJO-verse?? Re-imagining. And I’ll probably begin reporting back on my findings and post on the actual jumbled ideas for this because instead of working on that fun little thing where I re-imagine how the seven plot works (because that means I’d inject a extra book in there and I’d actually sob if I’d have to re-read HoO because I only finished it in August of this year and the rate at which I got through books was disproportionate, please I finished SoN in one day then it took me 2 months to finish MoA-)

But yes, New Rome New Rome- there are very certain things I’d want to settle out. Or for right now at least, before I through my self back into designing a city-

Both the Chariot racing, and Gladiator battles for war games take place in New Rome, as the respective areas for each are hosted in New Rome. I’d imagine that New Rome have their celebrity athletes inside of the modern Rome society of people that play classical Roman sports/games. I have been working with the assumption that both Camp and New Rome have some form of a ‘Forum’ area- in the most basic idea of a Forum area for Camp; I’m looking into making a good balance of how I want Camp to be made so I might change any of that- we’d just have to see.

Okay, okay, but the important things!

I might make a different blog in rp for my character Mercury (or I posted her as Calliope, but I guess she’ll never escape being named after Gods- though Mercedes or Sicily are still name options and I’m getting off topic-) just for the actual official; formatted ideas for New Rome and Camp Jupiter. I’d probably present it as ‘oh this blog is for New Legionnaires/ young citizens in New Rome waiting to join the Legion’ and would present my thoughts more coherently.

Basically here is where the goopy thinking parts of making the ideas would be; whereas over there would be where you would get the actual information (I might also finish the notion page I was working on but that one genuinely hurt my soul to repeatedly work in and on)

But I dunno; I got the idea from a separate blog that I just followed (I’ll link it after I post it so I get this right, @new-rome-historians-association the actual inspiration for the companion blog )and it seems like a fun idea, but I don’t know if people would be interested as it is purely fannon.

Hi all! I’m on the hunt for some new partners (not replacing anyone of course) that are interested in angsty, romantic and, of course, dramatic plots. In said plots I’d prefer to play the F in M/F pairings, it’s just what I’m most comfortable with : ). Aside from that though, I am 24 which means all of my partners NEED to be 18+, there is no wiggle room on this. Please don't lie and say you're of age if you're not, it's dangerous. Also, another lil request if possible: I just moved to the central time zone and would love some partners over here or who are at least awake during these hours, not a requirement tho!

We can discuss rules, limits and triggers privately if we decide to move forward, however there is one rule I’ll let you know of now since it puts some people off. I don’t double. I will gladly play multiple side characters, however I will not do one pairing in exchange for another (you playing my love interest and us doing a separate plot where I play yours). I find it hard to focus and they never end up fair in my experience. I hope that makes sense lol.

Right now I’m specifically on the hunt for three fandoms/pairings: Criminal Minds, Stranger Things & Teen Wolf.

In CM I’d be looking for someone to play Spencer Reid opposite of my character, Olivia Chandler. Olivia is a Gale Weathers type if you know Scream at all, but FAR less of a bitch. I think there’s a lot of longevity for this pair as Olivia is afraid of commitment whereas I see Spencer just hesitant when it comes to romance at all, especially if we set this after Maeve. There’s a lot to her backstory that I think could make for an interesting twist a little further along, but we could do different cases and such and it would be fun! As all of my characters do, Olivia has her own backstory written up and available upon request.

While I haven’t watched S4 of ST yet (atp I’m just waiting for S5 to rewatch all of it lol), I know most of what happens, but this plot would take place more of s2-s3 and maybe in an AU space s4. I’d be playing an original character, Nancy and Mike’s troubled cousin from New York, and would want to pair her alongside Billy Hargrove. I think they’re ‘fuck this small town’ attitudes would work well along with other things.

As for Teen Wolf, I’d love for someone to play Derek Hale against my canon-divergent version of Paige Krasikeva. For those who don’t remember, Paige was teenage Derek’s girlfriend who was scratched by an alpha and Derek had to kill himself. In my version, Derek thinks he killed her but Peter brought her back to life and sent her off with her parents who moved. Now she’s back in season 3A as an adult music teacher at the high school with no memories of Derek or werewolves.

putting under a readmore bc it got Long, but i decided to ramble a bit about my personal relationship to whump/the whump community/my writing

i'll be real, i was really confused when i first found the whump community. i came here from writeblr, so i was like, "...okay, but why is this a separate community? don't all of us writers already torture our characters?" after a little while it became clear to me that there is a difference, because whump is specifically about the hurt, whereas writeblrs do a lot of things with their characters that don't always involve hurt. but i've been writing very angsty, violent stories since i was a kid, so for me it's all basically the same thing.

and for that reason, i feel like i don't consider most of the things i write to actually be "whump," even if they contain violence or characters getting hurt. i could describe it as whumpy, but for me to consider something i wrote as whump is like ... i wrote it for my whump blog, with the intent/main goal of portraying gratuitous amounts of violence or a specific trope or what have you. and most of the stuff i write doesn't fall into that category. i write a lot of stuff (fun fact: i am a Writing Major), and 99% of it is never posted online, especially on my whump blog, partly due to personal preference but partly because a ton of it is character-driven stuff that doesn't qualify as whump and would probably get like 3 notes on here (if my other character-specific blog is anything to go by, lmao).

it took a long time for me to start an actual dedicated whump blog, separate from my writeblr, and when i did that, i decided to just make new characters that were "my whump ocs." partly that was so that no one could identify me by my ocs (which is something i no longer care about; now all my blogs are cross-contaminated with blorbos from my brains), and partly it was just for organizational purposes. like, i have these characters over here on my writeblr, who i'm writing a novel about, and then i have these other characters on my whumpblr who i'm just messing around with and torturing.

more recently, i've kinda come to realize ... i don't care as much about my whump ocs? like, maybe this has to do with How I Make Characters. they have to age like fine wine; i can't just make up a dude on the fly and expect myself to care about them for more than a few weeks before i lose interest. i don't wanna say that i don't care about the ocs i post about on here At All, but my interest in them definitely comes and goes. this is why i sometimes vent about the frustrations of everyone else really liking my One-Off OC Of The Week - because i have characters that i've put literal years into developing, and they never seem to get as much interest. and like, obligatory disclaimer that obviously i really appreciate it when people like any of my writing! it's very validating! i just have a weird relationship with those oneshots, because usually the characters seem very shallow to me and i'm not actually interested in developing them; it kinda seems like everyone else likes them more than i do 😅

so i guess the TLDR here is i write a lot of stuff outside of what i talk about on my whump blog, so whump occupies a pretty specific niche in my writing-life. and that's also why i go for long stretches of time without posting any writing on this blog. like, i'm always writing something, but 9 times out of 10 it's not particularly suitable for here.

to return to this thought and keep it relatively brief, tumblr 2011-2014 wasn't what most people outside tumblr thought it was. The popular perception outside here was that it was some sort of sjw hellhole, when in reality, it's better thought of at the time as a warzone, with no particular side really having total control of the site. i would say that until 2014, in general, the anti-sjw side was winning, and of course the "hipster side of tumblr" (read: normal people who use instagram now) was always the biggest, and the "fandom side" could go either way depending on which part of the fandom you walked into.

within the sjw side of tumblr, you had a lot of different factions, which more or less unified into one unruly chaotic blob sometime around 2017-ish. but in 2014, the anime communists were still a relatively small faction on the site, and the bigger names on the sjw side were people like medievalpoc, who was notoriously exposed as lying about their ethnicity and for getting a significant amount of the history wrong or oversimplified (the blog's theme in case you forgot, was to point out non-white people existing in european history). other things are a lot like how people might imagine – great focus placed on offensive jokes, on particular approaches to social issues, things like that. but what might surprise people who didn't use tumblr at the time, is that a lot of the people who were in that sjw side were very different to the outside perception of tumblr as being soft and sad about having ~le fee fees hurt~, but were actually extremely aggressive people, o, were just people who held a real life ideology that basically matched the people who say, comment on youtube and say that huey's ronald reagan speech in the boondocks represents them perfectly.

something changed around 2015-ish. whereas before, most people would respond to someone saying "cisheteropatriarchy sounds weird lol" or "these critical theory texts sound a little goofy" with defensive and earnest explanations of why you only think this because of a particular bias society has inspired in you, the freedom to actually be able to make fun of this stuff developed. I remember distinctly posts about bikini bottom written in the style of critical theory discourse at the time, and in fact, this is the year that gave us the actual term discourse as it's used on the internet now! it comes from here, of this era! it was a term that was used by tumblr leftists to make fun of what tumblr leftism was like, primarily arguments after argument after argument over the most inane shit (yes, even to us) with no resolution in sight, but also over things you were convinced had to be important, melded together with the inane shit in a way where nobody could cleanly separate the two. hence, why it just got reduced to the discourse chef meme image, to sort of sum up a general frustration with what existed at the time.

this transition from the earnest white feminist posting to aggressive irony leftism never actually stopped, it just kept going and going and going, until now on you can use homophobic slurs and tell people to kill themselves and it's generally socially acceptable. not to say current tumblr is good or a haven of epistemic perfection, but it's stupid in different ways than most people imagine because almost nobody has actually ever used tumblr, and so most people can't imagine what it was actually like.

it's quite bizarre that this is one of the most influential websites and subcultures of all time, but also is barely actually known and understood by nearly anyone, and almost all of this is because this website has like the worst fucking SEO ever, and whenever I want to find an old, famous post, no I can't lol, I feel very very lucky whenever I manage to locate a post from the old days that sums everything up for me (I have a particular favorite about discourse flip flopping). it's not documented well. there are popular tumblr posts out there – in fact, I can even think of ones that I wrote and are spread around in screenshots – that only make true sense in the context of what other posts were popular on different dashboards at the time, and that's knowledge that's almost completely lost to time and that you had to be there for. everything else important about tumblr is even more poorly documented. i think the internet would be a very different place if tumblr had had good SEO all along.

So, interest in nitefort itself has dwindled recently and has been since Chapter 3 Season 4. Though I could blame it on the chaos of college + supporting my brother in sports, I really just don’t want to play it. I think it also mainly stems from the fact that I’m only ever interested playing it with friends, and everyone else has been moving on from it as well. That being said, the casts of Chapter 2 Seasons 1-3 still live rent free in my head all day, every day and I still write about them, hell, they’re all I write about

I have some more stories that I’ve had finished since the last one I posted (I think it was a Journey mom friend one with Cameo) and I’m gonna slowly push those out here. I’m also configuring the high school au headcanon shenanigans again because they’re fun to work with and I’m just gonna release those all in one post rather than having them all in separate.

With everything said and done, I think it’s time to officially say goodbye to the beginning era—whatever it can be called—of this blog: incorrect quotes, headcanon lists, fortography, season reviews, and etc. Incorrect quotes were always my favorite to come up with, but as time went on, the motivation to do them was lost and there are only so many templates to use that I actually like and can easily fit characters into. Headcanon lists were sometimes the hardest for me to come up with and I quickly lost the motivation for those too; headcanons will still pop up now and then but they’ll continue to be kinda random and on the fly. Everything else requires me to actually kinda pay attention to the game, which just hasn’t been happening for me lately (though the rumors I’m hearing about this next season and chapter have piqued my interest).

From now on, I’ll be keeping this blog dedicated to my stories/storyverse as they come along since that’s all that’s been my focus for this past year in regards to Fortnite. To anyone who’s been following The Tide Rises, thank you; but it is also on hiatus until further notice, as I’m deciding to actually go in order with the trilogy I had planned for the E.G.O/GHOST vs A.L.T.E.R/SHADOW war. I want the whole storyline to make sense to myself before I finish what is meant to be the third installment, and though I regret doing this at the last minute as I’m at the final couple battles, I think this is the best step for me.

I’m actually considering making another blog for SHADOWs of GHOST specifically once I get everything rolling, and so I can have everything in one place without clutter. But, until then, the next few posts will be little oneshots I’ve completed as of now and the aforementioned finished high school au headcanons. I would like to say though, you can find me on Wattpad and AO3 under the name kayvi0 and everything is more likely to be posted there first.
