My plug this year is From the Belly by Emmet Nahil - queer nautical horror, cosmic horror vibes, body horror vibes. A whaling ship fishes up something horrific from the deep. It's got great internal world-building and the author has gorgeous turns of phrase.

also it's October, so who's got fun and off-the-beaten-path recommendations for horror books, horror movies, or point-and-click horror games?

I couldn't get Fitzjames' cunty little fur-lined coat out of my head after finishing "The Terror", so I decided I needed my own version. I found the base coat secondhand, modified and tailored it, and hand sewed on the faux fur trim. Maybe one day I'll make the screen accurate version, but I'm very happy with this for now.

so much happened in this whole episode but i’m still on fig infiltrating ruben’s dream, making it look like the place where his friend was murdered, and then disguising herself as kipperlilly & repeatedly saying different variants of “somebody needs to take the fall for this, and it’s not going to be me. it’s going to be you.” while adaine as the elven oracle shows up next to her. can you imagine waking up from that, the idea of a horrible truth being pinned on you by your friend to save her own skin while the personification of fate and destiny stands there, almost as a promise that this is GOING to happen to you. we don’t even know if this kid is guilty. my god.

ive been neck deep in fitzconte the last few days and it's amazing the things people can do with a character who has 4 minutes of screentime, says like three lines in total and also never actually directly interacts with the character the fandom decided is their bestie their pal their sweet cheese their good-time boy. and lover.

I feel like Fitzjames would keep her dick in the same way she'd keep her first name but Hodgson would get every gender surgery invented to date and she'd know all the technical terms for them and all the etymologies of said terms and she'd cheerfully tell Irving and Little all the bloody medical details of each one and she'd do it while they were eating and Little would want to gently object but would not do so because he wants to be a Good Ally and Irving would ignore all his subtle attempts to change the subject and listen to her with an enthralled intensity usually reserved for church services, which could mean nothing.

and yes, while i love this show dearly, i can also see where someone might draw the line that it's getting too scary/grim/gruesome for them, so I told my parents a bunch of times, even b4 showing them the 1st episode that it's gonna get worse from here (not in quality tho!) and they decided to stick around until ep8, and we agreed that okay, they won't stick around for the majority of the characters dying, people getting eaten and such, it's sufficient enough if I summarize the rest. They know what they'll miss like this (excellent acting and dialogues) but I didn't want to impose anything on them and ruin their holiday mood.

They already humored me & my enthusiastic efforts at subtitling enough, and I'm grateful for that. And after all, they did think the show itself is good, only that it's not their cup of tea towards the end. My father even said that some dialogues felt quite Shakespearean to him & that Crozier's speech at the hanging in ep8 was particularly good and well-acted.
