super long discussion abt my headcanons for Don's tattoo, as well as Carmen's and Bull's !

WARNING!! these r very headcanon heavy and probably reach-y ideas so if u prefer to stick to canon / r scared of mischaracterization maybe dont read 🩷 also this is SUPER long so im gonna go ahead and put all of this beneath a cut bcuz i don't wanna flood + this is centered around ship talk and i know some ppl don't care 4 that ✝️ pairs discussed are CarDon and BullDon, but emphasis on Carmen and Don bcuz they're mentioned more than once!!

kay so i always talk abt Don having a tattoo but ive never clarified WHAT the tattoo is of / what it says . im usually stuck between not knowing what it would be;; a religious image or a religious quote ? a cross felt too basic, but an entire passage of text would just be way too much for Don in my opinion,, i don't think he'd ever want such a huge, obvious amount of black ink on his body forever. i came up with the idea that Don's tat in the Monster Hunter would be COLOSSIANS 3:2, and it felt very fitting ; it's small and fairly easy to hide, but it reflects a great amount of his world perception and his ideologies . and i think that the exact same style of tattoo would fit his regular universe character very well too !

so after some consideration and many MANY dumb questions, i have concluded: i think Don's tattoo would be JOHN 15:9 .

John 15:9 reads: "I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love."

so why that quote ??

Don is a very romantic man :: he holds a very deep love for Carmen and he expresses that in his actions , seeming to dedicate his fights to her and celebrating his victories in her name . not only that, but i think his loving attitude is expressed through his non-romantic actions as well; he shows a considerable amount of respect to his opponents, and he recognizes his own mistakes! he's romantic , respectful , and to an extent - humble . i think that that verse fits him so well because it connects to his romantic personality and religious upbringing. along with being raised religiously, i think Don's parents took extra time to truly teach Don the lesson that love is one of life's most valuable and prominent factors. not only did they teach him to show kindness and respect to his peers, but i think they integrated the idea of finding romance very early in his life. they wanted their son to fall in love with the "right person", and they wanted him to treat his lover with deep devotion and respect. so i think that those two factors ended up melding together as Don grew up; religion reflected love, and his love would reflect his religion. so upon the two merging, i think Don made the decision to get that specific quote as a tattoo as means to reflect his two deepest values, and as a promise to himself that he'd find his true partner one day. so when Don truly did fall in love, he felt an even deeper connection to the tattoo.

Don's canonical partner being Carmen is adorable to me, and this is where the second portion of my headcanon comes in: i think that throughout the course of their relationship, Carmen would recognize the true sentiment that religion holds in Don's life and get a similar tattoo as devotion to her lover ! much like Don, to me, she wouldn't want an obnoxious or obvious tattoo simply because it doesn't fit the way she presents herself. so as a way to match her partner, i think she'd get the exact same kind of tattoo but with a different passage.

i think Carmen would choose ROMANS 1:11 - 12, and the placement would be beneath her right breast.

Romans 1:11 - 12 reads: "I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong - that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith."

i think the first part of the text ("I long to see you...") reflects the majority of Don's life where he waited to find his true partner, and how he and Carmen were bound to be together; she just hadn't met him yet. the second part of the quote ("...to make you strong...") is super fitting in the context of the idea that Carmen is Don's main motivation that drive his passions, like bullfighting and boxing. and the final part of the quote solidifies their love for each other - by sharing a tattoo, they share the love behind it and they serve as one another's guide of sorts.

as for Don being in a relationship with Bull, i think Bull would have conflicted feelings about getting a tattoo. Don, by no means, thinks that Bull NEEDS to get a tattoo to encapsulate their love ,, it was never a "required" or expected action to be reciprocated and Don understands that very well! both of them have already given each other deeply valuable gifts as ways to express their devotion. however, if Bull were to get a tattoo, i think he'd prioritize it being very small and very private.

to me, Bull's tattoo would be of the Virgin Mary in colored ink, placed on his inner, left thigh.

Dan Heng may not have the same personality but his two forms fit the mechanics of Shi Qingxuan's two forms and he fulfills the roles of Shi Qingxuan's character in the Blackwater arc (Blade as Blackwater would fit bc Jing Yuan and him collaborate to take down Phantylia its so good omg). Sushang on the other hand is like Lang Qianqiu: young, capable but impulsive, and constantly battling pressure from those in her ear (her mom in this case). I can so see a murky falling out between them as Sushang had such a favorable opinion of Luocha when he first boarded (even wanting to take him to tea and storytelling) but we never saw her reaction to him being arrested yk? I can totally see the tragic master/student dynamic there. You're so genius for that I want to study your brain (a high compliment I assure you)

Anyways ONWARDS your clocking of Xie Lian and Luocha is SO on point especially with the fall of Xianle. Luocha's backstory is unknown rn but it's been basically confirmed that it's related to the Purity Palace relic set. If you haven't read it, it's like beat for beat Xianle's fall, with the people gaining the attention of an Aeon (implied to be Yaoshi) and suffering insanity (Mara) for it, being driven insane until a figure known as The Maiden and her "devil" knight lock all those afflicted in the church and burnit all down. If Otto's (Luocha's HI3 counterpart) lore can be referenced in this, he would've been from a pretty influential family matching Xie Lian's royal status.

Getting into this, idk if they'd be Jun Wu but Yaoshi VERY MUCH fits White Clothed Calamity. If Luocha is an Emanator his relationship with Yaoshi would match Xie Lian and Jun Wu so well???? Like Yaoshi ascended out of the desire to see death and suffering eradicated only to accidentally perpetuate it. That would match so well with scenes like where Xie Lian is stabbed repeatedly in the temple, albeit with a different motive like "to eradicate suffering/death those who can must take it on for others (futher Jesus parallels)" or something like that. In end the suffering of the people is ended but perpetuated onto Luocha as a consequence yk?

Also just little details too. Like Luocha likes wine (he gifted us some when he departed the Express) so the scene of Xie Lian drinking in the graveyard would fit him so well. Destroying his mind and his power source that makes him "valuable" just to escape his exteme emotions for a little while and falling into a grave, just lying there, unable to die. Ruoye could be the divine body of Tazzyronth, an entity that ascended from extreme loneliness that bonds with another lonely being and wanting to protect him.

Firstly, Jing Yuan being somebody who uses masks/personas to navigate situations/problems and Hua Cheng literally changing his appearance to suit his needs. The vulnerability of shedding that mask even under fear of rejection (which translates so well to Jingluo).

But especially that Jing Yuan's luck is like tit for tat with Hua Cheng??? Always ending up in bad situations but getting out unscathed. I promised you lore so it’s time for L O R E

Todays victim: Peter Tork

Glamiverse Peter Tork has tattoos. He only has them on the one shoulder and they’re Mostly pre becoming a music teacher in NY (which he does mid/late 70s idk if I mentioned that already) but post leaving the Monkees. The only pre-monkees tattoo he has is from when he and Davy were dating he got Davys name tattooed on his arm way early in their relationship to prove he wasn’t lying about loving him and he could never get it covered up even after going to NY. The initial ratio was a gateway to getting more because anytime he’d feel down he’d look at the heart on Davys name and remember the great times they had together and eventually he ended up getting more tattoos.

Peter’s other tattoos are an ouroboros with the peace symbol inside & a daisy around it which is supposed to symbolize everlasting peace and tranquility. Then to connect the Davy tat & the daisy he got an orange poppy (the California state flower) and a Mountain-Laurel (the Connecticut State Flower) which are there to represent the the places he closes his eyes a thinks about.

While in California he gets a tattoo of a banjo with rose pedals at the head so the head looks like a flower and the neck looks like the stem. This is to represent the village since the rose is the New York State flower and the banjo is the instrument he played the most over there. Peter will get tattoos at important points in his life to remember them.

When Peter gets back to California he starts dressing in the way above (crop tops, painted daisy dukes, and windbreakers) and when the band finally gets used to him again and forgives him (late 80s) Peter doesn’t fully re-join the band. He goes on and plays with them but acts more like a groupie than a band member mostly because his personal music style isn’t conducive to Glam Rock and while he’ll go up and play with them sometimes he doesn’t enjoy glam rock as much as folk. Peter still preforms though, playing at folkie clubs in West Hollywood and he’ll on the occasion get Davy (or one of the others) to come out and sing with him and he’s always really excited when they join him (or when he plays with them) because while their music tastes are different he still loves preforming with them.

Whenever Peter goes on stage with the rest of the guys they always have him wear something sleeveless to show off his tattoos because they all think they’re cool. Also, when Peter joins the polycule, Davy can admit he really likes seeing the little heart with his name on it because he used to have nightmares about Peter covering it up or somehow removing it after leaving and it always made him feel really small because he’s always afraid of not being important enough to people he loves to be memorable (even though they can all attest to him being incredibly unforgettable) Peter also doesn’t do makeup but he’ll paint flowers on his face when he goes on stage with them and after they lost a bass player on tour so Peter had to fill in them even when he’s playing folkie clubs he still paints little flowers on his face before going out and preforming.

Additional outfits notes: Peter’s windbreaker matches his shoes and he *has* parachute pants that match the wind breaker but he never wears them. Peter also wears mostly cropped band shirts and his favorites to go out with his famous friends wearing are the t shirts for their band because he thinks it’s funny when strangers can’t *quite* place their faces but know them from somewhere all the while Peter is wearing a shirt with their faces on it.

This ask couldn’t have come with better timing cause I was legit Drawing Glam rock Davy when I got the notification ✨

Im gonna be leaving to do shit soon so I’ll do the polyamory response now and lore later.

So first a recap: Davy & Peter date and then Peter goes back to the village and it becomes Davy & Micky and then when Peter comes back Davy realizes he still loves Peter but doesn’t want to hurt Micky so he goes to Mike to seek advice only to fall in love with his caring and amazing friend Mike. Davy doesn’t know what to do, he loves them all but doesn’t want to get hurt/hurt any of them.

The solution: Ultimately the solution is communication. However when you’ve got Mike (Texan and repressed) and Davy (English and emotionally repressed) trying to help each other navigate romance is difficult. At first Davy ends up pulling away from Micky because he’s afraid he’ll accidentally reveal he’s got a crush on someone else and he doesn’t want to hurt Micky but emotionally pulling away in an attempt not to hurt Micky hurts him anyway. All this while Peter is trying to convince his friends he’s not a bad person and what ends up happening is Mike gives davy a piece of really solid advice and Davy, in an emotional fit, kisses him and he’s so distraught he goes to tell Micky and Micky is upset at first and since he feels betrayed by Mike and can’t talk to Davy about Davy he finally relents and has a meaningful conversation with Peter and Peter (a village Hippy) has all this like knowledge about the sexual revolution which the other Monkees didn’t pick up on. The main one being non-monogamous relationships. (The topic comes up because Micky reveals that he’s also had a crush on Mike this whole time and never did anything about it so why did Davy? Did Davy just not love him enough to stay faithful? no) Micky and Davy have a conversation about this where Micky brings Peter to help him explain polyamory and they talk about boundaries and other stuff and when Micky and Davy have their rules in place and they’re doing much better Mike goes to apologize to Micky (because he feels guilty about kissing his bf and especially that he liked it) and Micky and Mike have a sort of spur of the moment discussion and Mike isn’t quick to jump on having 2 bfs when he’s not even ready to deal with enjoying kissing 1 boy. Now that they have the rules in place the next time Davy and Peter end up alone together Peter asks about trying again and basically it’s a lot of Davy and Micky and Mike learning how to navigate a polyamorous relationship and Peter trying to write the wrongs of his youth.
