me trying to explain that my hearing is supersonic even by autistic standards and i can hear conversations from a room away and the tv in the living room and the fridge in the kitchen and the humming of the electricity and i'm fairly certain my tinnitus is not tinnitus caused by hearing loss but some sort of passive sound in a highly industrialized and electronic environment that most other people cannot hear: wdym the silence is quiet

I'm in my late 20s. When I was a teenager, I spent a LOT of time in my room. And it wasn't because I was anti-social, I'm actually pretty extroverted today. It's because my mom and ex-stepdad were toxic as fuck. They would say things like "you are lazy and stupid", "can't you do anything right?" "I wish I dropped you off at the Mental Hospital like the doctors told me to when they told me you had autism", etc. And then, when I didn't want to hear all the negativity after I just spent a day being tormented at school, they didn't like the fact that I shut myself in my room to avoid them. "Nothing in your room is more important than family", "one day the world will explode and you'll survive, but you'll regret not spending time with us", "don't bother getting a job because you'll never come out of your room to move out". Jokes on them, because I live with my husband and I don't depend on them.
I guess I'm used to toxic people in my life and only recently was treated with genuine respect by my in-laws. Recently, I went on vacation with my husband to see his family for his grandparents' 50th anniversary. If I accidentally fell asleep on the couch, his grandma's friend said "good morning, Sleeping Beauty", and it WASN'T followed by a snarky comment like "you don't really expect any of us to carry your fat ass to bed like a useless baby, right?" Or the best part was my husband's little cousin made me mad because she tore my sketchbook, and I told her to stop touching it. His grandma led me to her and she apologized for breaking something that was mine and I apologized for being irritated. After that, no one said a word about it. Not a single "how dare you not share your sketchbook with my child", "don't yell at her, she's a kid", "you should be grateful that we allow you to come on vacation with us", like I expected because of my snap when I was overwhelmed. None of that. And believe me, I cried. Not from sadness, but from relief. My husband's family treated me with respect and as an equal, and because I was raised by and with toxic people, I bawled like a little baby at the first sign of respect that I didn't have to demand.
Over the years, I've put up a wall and used defense mechanisms that come off as rudeness, attitude, and anger to prevent myself from getting hurt again, and during this trip, I felt free from having to do that. It felt good, and that's when I realized how unfair my family had been to me and how unfair my life has been.
consider: teenagers aren’t apathetic about everything they’re just used to you shitting all over whatever they show excitement about

Tumblr media
You fixed your skirt for the millionth time. You were going to finally meet your future stepbrothers for dinner tonight and you were a bundle of nerves.
Your mom had been dating a new man recently who she was head over heels for. They had been spending so much time together and he spoiled her, flying her abroad on weekend getaways all the time. Apparently, he had popped the question when they were in Greece last week and the two of them were flying in tonight to celebrate with both families. All you knew was he had two sons, both a little older than you. However, since the romance had been so quick, you hadn’t met them yet.
You were the last to arrive for dinner, and as you pulled up to the house, the house that you soon would all share, your jaw dropped. It was MASSIVE, nothing short of an estate. You knew your future stepdad was rich, but this was certainly a step up from your measly 2 bedroom apartment you shared with your mother.
You rang the doorbell, patting down your outfit one more time before the door swung open. A tall man opened the door and your eyes widened. His white button up stretched over his broad chest and you quickly pulled your eyes up to his face. He had navy hair, neatly combed back and a bright beaming smile.
“You must be Y/N! I’m Tensei!”. He pulled you into a tight hug and you were pressed into his chest. He smelled like pine and clean laundry and you felt your heart race. He let go of you and smiled, his blue eyes sparkling.
“Sorry! I just figured, since we are going to be brother and sister, we better get close!”
Right. Brother. This was your big brother and you could NOT think of him any other way. You forced a smile on your face, and nodded.
“You’re right! It’s great to finally meet you.”
“There you are – oh hello. I apologize for my interruption! I’m Tenya Iida.” Tensei’s brother, a literal carbon copy of him, just with square glasses perched in front of his blue eyes, walked into the room. You looked up at both of them, and felt very small.
“Tenya, no need to be so formal. Y/N is our new little sister, and we should be bonding!” Tensei teased, poking Tenya in the ribs. A bright blush crept on his cheeks and the two of them argued.
“I’m glad the three of you seem to be getting along well!” A man who resembled the two, only older with a grey streak in his hair smiled. Your mother stood next to him, the sparkly diamond standing out on her hand.
“Let’s get to dinner.”
Somehow you ended up sitting between Tensei and Tenya at the long table. Your parents were too busy being lovestruck teenagers to really pay the three of you any mind, and you ate your dinner in awkward silence until Tensei began speaking.
“Y/N, I hope you like your bedroom here! It’s on the top floor but it’s between both mine and Tenya’s so if you ever need your big brothers, we are right next door!”
You giggled, “Thank you. I’ll be sure to keep that in mind.”
Tenya nodded solemnly, “It’s our duty as older brothers to protect you! We will take this responsibility seriously!”
You bit back a laugh. “Thank you Tenya. I already feel very welcome and safe.”
The three of you continued talking and soon, dinner was over. Both of the brothers insisted you head up to your room as they cleaned up, and your parents headed to their room which was thankfully, in another wing of the house.
You made your way up the stairs and opened the door that Tensei had directed you to and it was very...pink. There were pink lilies on the nightstand and a huge baby pink comforter on the bed surrounded by fluffy pastel pillows. A white vanity sat in the corner with a matching chair and white and pink dressers stood against the wall.
You supposed they were really glad to have a little sister and you smiled at the card that your new older brothers signed. You pulled your overnight bag open and searched for clothes to sleep in. The rest of your stuff would be arriving tomorrow, so you were stuck wearing shorts a little too small and a tank top that left very little to the imagination. You looked in the mirror. Maybe you could ask Tensei for a shirt to cover up, As if reading your mind, a knock at the door interrupted your thoughts.
“I just came by to…say goodnight!” Tensei’s eyes trailed down, before he blinked and looked back at your face. You could see his ears reddening and crossed your arms in an attempt to hide your cleavage.
“Um, actually I was wondering if I could borrow a shirt, Tensei? I’m so sorry, it seems that I haven’t worn this in a lot longer than I thought.” You laughed nervously.
Tensei straightened up.
“Of course! I’ll uh, be right back!” He sped off and returned with a large grey t-shirt that you immediately threw on over yourself. As you pulled it over yourself, you didn’t see Tensei’s eyes roam down your exposed legs. You turned to him. “Thank you so much Tensei. Sweet dreams!” You said, giving him a tight hug. He nodded and headed back to his room, passing Tenya in the hallway. Tenya gave him a curious look and Tensei just returned a tight-lipped smile before locking his door and collapsing on his bed, his cock straining against his boxers.
------
The next morning you woke up refreshed and wanting to thank your new brothers for their hospitality. You headed out to the hall to see if they were awake. You opened the door to see Tenya standing there.
"Hey! I was just looking for you! Good morning Tenya." You smiled at him.
"Good morning." He said looking at you curiously. "Is that Tensei's shirt?"
You looked down and gave a sheepish grin.
"Oh! Yes, I had another shirt on but it was a little too small so he let me borrow this last night."
Tenya had an unreadable look on his face. You cocked your head to the side.
"Um...so anyway, I was wondering if you wanted breakfast? I wanted to show my appreciation for the warm welcome to my new brothers and I love to cook so it's my pleasure." You smiled at him. He opened his mouth, as if to say something, then just nodded.
"Uh...thank you, Y/N that would be wonderful. I'll show you around the kitchen." He said, placing a hand on your shoulder. He pulled back. "Apologies!"
You laughed.
"Tenya, please. We live together. I want you to feel comfortable around me!" You pulled him into a hug, your face in his chest.
Tenya's heart raced and he prayed you couldn't feel his growing erection. You were so soft and smelled so good and fuck you looked incredible in those tiny shorts, though he felt a strange pang of jealousy over you wearing his brother's shirt.
She's your sister. Your little sister. That's disgusting and disgraceful.
His head raced with thoughts and he felt so ashamed but the taboo aspect fueled the fire burning inside him.
You pulled away, looking up at him with those beautiful bright eyes. His heart thumped in his ears.
"Oh, good morning!"
Tensei's door swung open. He stood shirtless in a pair of red flannel pajama pants and neither of the brothers missed how your eyes were drawn to his muscular chest before you composed yourself.
Tenya glared at Tensei, who gave an easygoing smile in return.
"I hope you slept well, little sister." Tensei asked you. You nodded and thanked him again for the shirt.
"I hope you're hungry. I'm making breakfast." You grinned as the three of you headed to the kitchen. Tensei chuckled.
"That sounds wonderful Y/N. Do you need any help?"
You shook your head. "Nope! Let me treat you both as a thank you. I've always wanted older brothers to make food for and dote on." You giggled. "Maybe I watch too much anime but I always loved that idea."
Both brothers sat at the island in the kitchen watching you as you flitted about grabbing ingredients and utensils to use. You reached for a box of flour on a high shelf and your shorts ran up even higher, giving them an eyeful of the curve of your ass. Tensei bit his lip, and Tenya cleared his throat. "Allow me!"
You spun around, "No way! I told you. I can handle making my brother's breakfast!" You turned back to the cabinet, jumping up to reach.
Even though you had Tensei's shirt on, your breasts jiggled and bounced with each jump, and you made soft panting noises as you attempted to pull the box down. Both of them were grateful for the island that prevented you from seeing their cocks fully aroused now.
You, having finally gotten everything you needed, turned away from them again as you began to cook on the stovetop. Tensei had finally had enough. As you talked about whatever it was you were talking about, he slipped his cock over the waistband of his pants, palming it slowly. You just looked so fucking nice, and for a moment Tensei could see you as his cute little housewife and not his innocent little sister.
Or maybe it turned him on more to think of you as both...fuck what was the matter with him? He couldn’t think about it too long as he had more pressing matters at hand, literally.
Neither you nor Tenya seemed to notice he was preoccupied and you continued joking and laughing. Suddenly you whipped around to face him. His hand froze on his cock and he coughed to cover his discomfort.
“Tensei, how do you like your eggs?”, You asked innocently, completely oblivious to the death grip he had on his cock underneath the island.
“Uh...erm, anyway is fine! I’m sure they’ll be delicious if you cooked them.” He stammered out, praying you didn’t continue the conversation. You smiled, and turned to ask Tenya his preferences. Once Tensei was sure you were distracted, he slowly pumped his hand up and down his cock again. Precum leaked from the tip and knowing you could catch him, knowing you were less than 5 feet from him, only fueled his arousal. What would you do if you caught him? Would you be disgusted and upset? Or would you offer to help, offer to take care of your big brother?
God he was so close, so close imagining your hands wrapped around him, your beautiful face looking up at him, so sweetly, so innocently –
“NHGG!” he groaned, shoving his cock in his pants as his cum spilled over his hand. He could feel the fabric spreading his seed all over his cock and he felt uncomfortably sticky.
“Are you okay, big brother?” Your eyes were wide with worry. He turned to face both you and Tenya.
“Y-yes! Sorry, muscle cramp in my leg. Happens sometimes, Sorry!” He smiled reassuringly as the cold fabric stuck to his softening cock. You still looked worried and he flashed you a bright grin. “I promise, I’m fine.”
You nodded and turned back to the food. Tensei met Tenya’s stare, the younger man’s eyes narrowed to slits.
Oblivious, you plated the food.
“Let’s eat!”
--------
The three of you navigated your new sibling relationship as well as possible. You loved your new older brothers and fussed over them daily, cooking for them and doting over them any time they were home. Your mom and stepdad, seeing how well the three of you got along, often left the three of you home while they jetted to far off countries on lavish vacations.
The boys loved the attention from you. Their packed lunches, your soft hands rubbing their shoulders or playing with their hair as they laid on the couch after a long day. You were so sweet and beautiful as you flitted around the house, cooking dinner or doing chores. And those days where they would come home to find you lounging by the pool outside? Your tiny swimsuit leaving little to the imagination? Well those were just bonuses.
Those nights, as you slept soundly in your bed, on the other side of the wall, Tenya gripped his cock tightly. Your curves ran through his mind and he spat on his throbbing cock as he thought about you. Your soft touches and giggles replayed in his head. Thoughts of when the two of you were alone and you’d curl up against him on the couch as you watched a movie, or fell asleep on his chest. You trusted him so much to protect you and love you like an older brother should and here he was, fantasizing about stretching your sweet little pussy on his cock, about making you cry out his name.
Fuck, or when your cute little voice rang out each morning, “Good morning big brother!”. He wanted to hear you scream for him, beg your big brother to fuck you harder. He wanted to ruin you and make you his. He panted as he picked up speed, fucking his hand. His hips jerked and he was so close.
A noise came from your room, a soft mewl. Tenya pressed his ear to the wall. He could hear movement and another soft sigh. Were you touching yourself too? Were you imagining his cock filling you up? He strained to hear and made out your cute little breaths and another low moan. His eyes rolled back and he groaned as his cum shot over his abs and chest. He listened to hear if you were awake and heard nothing more from your room. Sighing, he reached to his nightstand to clean himself.
-----
Days passed and you had been in an exceptionally good mood. At first, Tensei and Tenya both thought you were just in a good mood. But they started to notice you looking at your phone more, giggling and blushing at the screen. When they would ask, you would mumble “nothing” as you typed a response. You also spent more days out of the house than usual, saying you were spending time with friends or running errands. Finally one night, as the three of you sat at the table, you spoke up.
“I met a guy.”
Tenya’s fork clattered to his plate and Tensei gritted his teeth.
“His name is Kaito. He’s really sweet and really cute. He wants to take me out to dinner this week but I wanted him to meet you two first.” You smiled, looking up at your older brothers who were glaring daggers at their food.
Tenya spoke first.
“Where did you meet this man?”, he asked, his eyes burning a whole into the tablecloth.
“At the store as I was getting some groceries. He helped carry my bags to the car.” Your eyes flickered to both your brothers, confused at the tension in the air.
“So this man just picks up women at the grocery store?”, Tensei asked, his tone cold.
Your skin prickled.
“What? No, of course not. He saw I was struggling and offered to help me. Then we got to talking and…”
Tenya looked at you, his eyebrows furrowed.
“If you are having difficulty getting groceries, Tensei or I will join you so these men don’t prey on you. What if he had followed you home? Or attacked you in the car?”
You squeezed your eyes shut. How was this the conclusion they were reaching?
“Nothing happened! And clearly he is a nice man, as he wants to meet you and take me out.” Your voice wavered as 2 pairs of navy eyes stared you down.
“Is this who you’ve been texting?”, Tensei interrupted you.
You looked at him questioningly,
“Why does it matter who I’m–”
“ANSWER THE QUESTION.” Tenya’s hand slammed on the table.
Your lip trembled. Fighting back tears, you whispered. “Yes.”
Tensei looked exasperated. Closing his eyes and pinching the bridge of his nose, he reached out to you and you flinched.
“We are just worried about you. You’re our sweet little sister and we want to make sure no one hurts you ever.”
Tenya reached out to your other arm.
“I apologize, dear sister. I just want you to be safe and unharmed.”
You stared blankly at the table, before turning from both of them and walking to your room, slamming the door.
------
As your phone buzzed on the couch that night, it wasn’t too difficult for your older brothers to figure out your password. And it was even easier to find this Kaito guy online and threaten him until he agreed to cut contact with you.
After all, your big brothers would always protect you.
-----
The next day, as you read and re-read the messages from Kaito, your heart broke. You curled up against your older brothers on the couch.
“You were right.” You sobbed into Tensei’s shoulder, Tenya’s chest pressed against your back. “I should have never argued with you two.”
The boys held you close between them.
“Shh, it’s okay. We’ll take care of you. Your big brothers are here for you.” Tenya pressed his lips to your hair as Tensei pulled you into his chest. You could hear his heartbeat through his thin shirt. You felt Tenya rub soft soothing circles on your back and you sniffled, turning so you could face both of them.
“I’m..*hic* sorry for being *hic* so emotional.” You choked out, rubbing your eyes. You blinked and both boys looked at you. They both had such adoration in their eyes and looked at you like you hung the moon. You knew they would always be there for you.
You kissed Tensei on the cheek and turned, kissing Tenya on the cheek. Both boys blushed furiously and your breath caught in your throat as they each pressed a kiss to your cheeks, slightly closer to your lips.
Maybe it was the overwhelming emotions that filled you right now, or maybe it was always there, lying dormant inside of you. But you felt a tingle in your core and pressed another soft kiss to Tenya’s face, this time ghosting the edge of his lips before placing an identical one to Tensei.
Your body stilled as you waited to see what they would do. Tensei looked in your eyes before pressing his lips to yours. Your hand clutched at his shirt as he licked your lip. You opened your mouth to him and he hungrily tasted you. You broke apart, and Tenya took this opportunity to pull you towards him.
He slammed his lips to yours as Tensei kissed down your neck and collarbone. Where Tensei was confident in his kisses, Tenya was desperate. You moaned into Tenya’s mouth as Tensei bit a particularly sensitive spot on your neck. Your bodies were so close and you could feel Tenya’s erection through his pants, pressing against your thigh.
You pulled back.
“We shouldn’t...I’m so sorry, this is…” You stammered,
Tensei kissed your temple and Tenya pressed his hand to your cheek.
“Let us take care of you, little sister. Let your big brothers make it all better.”
Flustered you gave in to your body and continued reaching down, palming Tenya through his slacks. You felt his body shiver as you ran your fingers up and down the shaft. Pulling away from both of them you pulled off your sweater, revealing your body to them. Their cocks ached so much for you, and seeing you like this, in a way they had only imagined, turned them feral.
Tensei tugged at your legs, pushing you onto your back. You looked up at your big brothers and your eyes widened.
“You’re so beautiful.” Tensei whispered, his fingers tracing your belly. Tenya nodded, his eyes trained on your breasts in the lacy white bra you wore. He slid the strap down your shoulder and when you didn’t protest, unhooked the clasp in the front. Your breasts spilled out and he ran his fingers over your hardening nipples.
Tensei tugged down your legging and panties and you were naked before them, looking like a sweet lamb between two hungry wolves. He pressed a kiss to your lower belly, and you whimpered. His cerulean eyes met yours and you gave a soft nod for him to keep going. His lips met your folds and he lapped at your slit hungrily. Your hips bucked involuntarily and you could feel his grin against you.
“Easy now sweetheart, your big brother is going to take care of you.” His hands pressed your hips down firmly as he continued to devour your cunt.
Your eyes rolled back and you met Tenya’s eager eyes. His erection was pressing painfully through his pants and you tugged at the fabric, silently begging for him. He threw off his slacks and you could see the wet mark on the front of his boxers. Running your fingers over it, you opened your mouth and looked at him expectantly.
That was all it took. Tenya slid his boxers off, pressing the head of his dick against your soft lips. You gave kitten licks, staring into his eyes as best you could as you were still being tantalized by Tensei’s tongue. Tenya let out a grunt as you continued to tease his cock, slowly taking it deeper into your mouth. Tensei plunged his tongue deep inside you and you let out a loud moan around Tenya.
“F-fuck...so good, princess.” Tenya choked out, pulling you closer onto his cock. You felt yourself getting closer to climax as Tensei flicked his tongue over your clit. You gasped around Tenya’s thick member and he used this opportunity to push himself deeper down your throat. Stars danced in your eyes and your thighs strained under Tensei’s grip.
“That’s it baby girl, cum all over your big brother’s face.”
His lewd words, the taboo nature of it all, and the helplessness you felt as you choked on Tenya’s cock and were being held down by Tensei...you cried out as you gushed all over Tensei’s face.
“Mmm….that’s it sweetheart.” Tensei murmured as he guzzled down your arousal. Your eyes fluttered and you whimpered as you Tenya lazily fucked your face.
Tensei looked at Tenya and wordlessly, the brothers switched places and you were flipped onto your knees. Tenya’s thick cock was pressed against your entrance and you gulped at how big it felt. He ran his hands over your hips.
“Shh...be a sweet little sister for your brothers.”
Tensei’s cock was in front of your mouth and he tapped it on your mouth. You parted your lips and both brothers slid inside you. You gasped at the stretch and tried to turn your head towards Tenya, but Tensei gripped your face, and you swirled your tongue around his cock.
“So tight...god...such a perfect little girl.” Tenya groaned, his fingertips digging into your skin. Tensei tugged your hair as he plunged deeper into your mouth. You bounced between the brother’s cocks as they worshipped your body, praising you for being their good girl.
“So beautiful, Y/N. You’re so good to us.” Tensei whispered.
You could feel Tenya’s thrusts getting sloppier as he pounded into you faster and faster. He pulled your arms behind your back, so you were at their mercy. Tensei’s cock was slamming the back of your throat, and Tenya was fucking you so deep you felt like you were going to pass out. Your limbs felt like jelly and the only thing holding you upright was the sheer force of them fucking you from each end.
“Fuck fuck fuck fuck...gonna cum.” Tenya breathed out, his grip on you was almost painful and your arms were sore from how hard he tugged on them. Tensei seemed to be reaching his peak too, as his breaths were becoming ragged. You swallowed around his cock and he let out a deep groan, spilling his seed down your throat. You clenched around Tenya and he swore as he shot ropes of hot cum deep inside you. The twitching of his cock set you off and your muscles clenched as you whimpered out. You felt like sparks were fluttering from your nerves and the boys held you as you came down from your high.
Your eyes closed and you could only faintly feel them cleaning you up and someone carrying you to your bed. Your hands reached out and you felt the bed shift as each man climbed into your pink bed on either side of you.
Content, you fell asleep between your big brothers.

A Story Told at Last  {Part One}
Tumblr media
(Here we are, much later than I had hoped, but hopefully still enjoyable!  Thanks so much to those of you who read, liked, reblogged, and sent encouragement on my prologue for this, my second CSSNS 19 fic.  This is the first full part, and I hope to bring you the second and final one before too much more time goes by.)
**Thank you again to @branlovestowrite for the totally beautiful story art. The banner for this just makes me so happy. I could not have wished for more!
**Thanks as well to @whimsicallyenchantedrose, my beta reader. I did not get all of this to her for beta-ing as I should have, but she greatly clarified and improved what I had for her to read over, and I very much appreciate it.
~Part One~
By the time Henry had returned to the Universitá di Bologna housing,where he and his team of advanced grad students were staying for the duration of their research trip in Italy, he was more than a bit anxious to reach his temporary quarters and go back through the copious research notes he had taken and goals he’d laid out in preparation before finally standing within the crumbling skeleton of his historical site - what remained of the once-stunning tower. Having now glimpsed it with his own eyes in the still shadows and dying light of evening, Henry was almost breathless with excitement and the desire to compare what he had seen with the numerous possible finds he had deemed likely. Already, he was itching to return at dawn’s first light with his team and equipment.
The heavy feeling in the air of another presence - of not being alone in the ruins, though his logical mind knew he must have been - had been easily shaken off once he returned to the city from the more remote location. The sound and bustle of the modern world - phones, cars, the press of crowds - melted away the icy shiver that had traced down his spine and put it well out of his thoughts. For several minutes now (nearer to three hours in point of fact, though his mind, caught up in more interesting details, had lost all track of time) he had been leafing through his reference manuals, maps and notes, packed and then unpacked again meticulously upon arrival, when a soft rapping on his door roused him from the fevered state he’d slipped into.
Shaking his head, and hazily pulling himself back into the present time and place, Henry drew a steadying breath, reminding himself that he was a skilled and credentialed professor of historical literature, not the teenage fanboy he’d once been and currently felt like again; he should show a bit more composure to whomever waited to speak with him in the hall. Opening the door, however, his eyes widened momentarily, in spite of his recent resolve, to find his brightest and most accomplished research assistant facing him.
Violet Clemens had actually graduated from the university’s history program two years before, but knowing the particular interest she would have in this research opportunity, Henry had contacted the museum he knew she now worked with when there had been spots left to fill in their group. Violet, with her pale, dewy complexion and ebony hair shining as it rested on her shoulders, not to mention her effortlessly elegant and tasteful way of dressing and carrying herself in a sea of her contemporaries wearing shirts cut so low and pants and skirts so tight that they left little to the imagination, had always stood out and seemed a bit of an old soul out of her time. Despite her keen intellect and quick wit, Henry had always been glad her degree focus leaned more toward historical art and architecture rather than his historical literature. While her complimentary knowledge would serve well in this venture to supplement his own, he had at the time feared becoming completely charmed by her if he’d had her in class on a regular basis.
Trying to shake all those thoughts from his frazzled and rather unfocused mind, Henry gave her a curious but friendly smile before speaking. “Miss Clemens, what can I do for you this evening?”
Violet flushed prettily, her cheeks pinking as her gaze fell to her toes for a moment before glancing back up to meet his. “I’m sorry, Professor Mills. I know it’s late. I was just wondering...I mean…” she finally blurted the rest out in a rush “...you went out to see it already, didn’t you? What was it like?”
Henry truly couldn’t hold back his wide grin at her question. Another person who held the same enthusiasm for the princess and the ruin of her family’s legacy, was not someone he came across often, and a part of him basked in having someone to share the thrill with - someone who just might understand. “You’re not a student anymore,” he offered with a self-deprecating chuckle. “You don’t have to call me Professor. But, to answer your question, yes I’ve been out there and it was incredible. Even with the light failing, it took my breath away.”
Violet merely nodded, taking his words in with an awed smile on her lips. “Oh, I can’t wait to see it for myself,” she murmured. Then a twinkle of mischief flitted into her eyes as she added, “but if you no longer want me to call you Professor, then you’d better just call me Violet.”
“Deal,” Henry affirmed, reaching out a hand which she took to shake on their agreement. The moment their hands were clasped together, a tremor of awareness caught him off guard, running up his arm with a heat and intensity that surprised him. Though he’d heard of such reactions to another many times in the books he’d read and stories he loved, he had never experienced anything so arresting in real life.
“Well, then, Henry,” Violet added, taking her hand back, though he didn’t think he was imagining the sudden breathiness of her voice and the way she shook her head as if to refocus, causing her dark waves of hair to shimmer. “I guess I should leave you in peace for now. We want to get an early start tomorrow after all.”
“That we do,” Henry agreed, seeing her to the door and hoping he wasn’t smiling wide enough to make him look giddy. Once she was gone, he leaned back against the solid oak, shaking his head in disbelief.  It would seem this adventure was going to bring about more than one incredible discovery.
~~~~~~~~~~~***~
The next morning dawned all too early for Henry’s taste; his alarm waking him from such a solid sleep that for a full minute he was too bleary to remember where he was at all. Between the jet lag and staying up another two hours pouring over notes and manuscripts to be certain he was prepared for their first day cataloguing finds onsite, he wasn’t sure he would even be able to pry his eyes open without coffee. It was almost funny to think back now on the days when he used to laugh at his mom and stepdad for their need to have a hot chocolate and black coffee respectively before they could face their days. He understood all too well as an adult.
Once he got himself moving, saw himself down to the continental breakfast provided on the first floor, and was waiting at the van to make sure all his assistants and fellow scholars were on time for the ride out, Henry did begin to feel more awake and alive. It wasn’t long before their small group had gathered, all had been accounted for, and they were loading onto the van. Rolling out of the city proper and into the Italian countryside, Henry began to lay out his game plan for the day, and the rest of his lethargy was swept back by excitement and purpose.
When they reached the ruins, gathered the tools, instructions, and research which would guide them, they all stood a bit awed, gazing up at the remnants of the tower walls before them, quite possibly full of clues to be discovered. His travel mug providing a further jolt of caffeine as he took a last sip, he then stepped forward to begin directing the tasks to various assistants.  Those with him moved out with care through the ancient, crumbling bricks and mortar, leftovers from an exiled life, off in the directions he had indicated. Undeniably, her felt more than a bit of pride wash over him at the gravity and industry his little group displayed in tackling their assignments. The members of his team were clearly well-chosen.
He wasn’t, however, too selfless to have left one particular team member for last, to work with him one-on-one. Henry firmly fought down the urge to fidget with the hem of his shirt or stutter nervously as Violet edged closer to his side once they stood relatively alone. Her eyes were shining as they drank in the sight before her, more than a bit stunned and affected if her hushed voice was any way to judge. “It’s… splendid…” she nearly whispered, clearly struggling for the right words.
Henry nodded wordlessly, then turned to explain what he hoped to get her help with, just as Violet looked up to him and they bumped into each other awkwardly, both stumbling away a step and chuckling. His hand darted out to catch her elbow, not wanting to knock her to the ground, and Violet wavered closer at the touch unconsciously.
“Oh, Profess - Henry… I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to…”
He waved her off gently, “No apology needed. I bumped into you just as much… Vi...olet…” His tongue tangled on her given name as if he were still thirteen and worried about it squeaking. “I mean, there’s no harm done. As long as you’re alright?”
The young curator flushed prettily and nodded with her reassurance of “Absolutely, I’m fine. What did you intend for the two of us to work on?” She was clearly anxious to shed her embarrassment - and to explore this place they both had fallen in love with before even reaching, but for a moment Henry was stymied. He couldn’t speak or think, so struck was he by the intelligence and enthusiasm shining in her eyes and the classical beauty of her face. He wondered helplessly how visitors to her workplace could appreciate any of the art hanging on its walls with Violet standing before them.
Her light touch on his forearm finally brought him back to the moment as she asked again, “Henry? Was there someplace in particular you wanted to start?” Even as those curious words escaped her, Violet’s chocolate-y brown eyes widened noticeably, this time unmistakably also feeling the same jolt of electricity that ran along Henry’s skin where her fingers touched.
Valiantly seeking to ignore the attraction fighting for his attention, Henry redirected his focus to the curious detail he had noticed the evening before, leading his partner toward what still stood of the column that had once been part of the support to a vaulted ceiling. It seemed obvious to him, again if the details of the legend he had heard were true, that this tower had once been an incredibly lovely haven - even if to its inhabitant it had proved a gilded cage. Which was why an oddity in the surface had caught his attention upon first look. There appeared to be a spot where the join between the two sides of the arch didn’t match up - a strange and careless anomaly in a building that otherwise had the look of careful and exquisite design in the other parts that remained.
Pointing up to the spot he had seen, Henry directed Violet’s eyes to the same strange seam that he had noticed. Hearing Violet’s surprised little intake of breath and the way she immediately stepped forward, tracing careful fingers along the obvious malformation in curiosity, told Henry he had indeed been onto something. Soon Violet nodded to herself, drawing closer yet, both hands now up to help in her exploration, and seemingly forgetting Henry, the bustling site, and everyone else around in her rapt focus.
“Often times,” she murmured lowly without looking away from the movement of her fingers on the old stone, now gingerly but determinedly probing and prying, “in buildings of this age - especially ones which would have belonged to families of importance - an inconsistency like this might often indicate…” she paused for a moment, wedging her finger into the impossibly small opening she had managed to pry, the very tip of her tongue peeking from between her lips in concentration adorably (to Henry’s mind at least).
“Ah ha!” she exclaimed in a breath of triumph, the arch giving enough for what appeared a hidden panel to fall open and a still dully glistening bronze object to fall into her open palms. “As I was saying,” she continued proudly, “might indicate a hidden compartment for items of value.”
Beaming with excitement, Violet held her prize up for Henry’s inspection. In her hands lay an ornate, yet solidly constructed compass on a chain. The piece appeared to have some definite age on it, and yet its quality and beauty still shone through. It looked like an instrument which would have been used for ship navigation on sea voyages prior to the advent of modern navigational systems, and Henry’s thoughts could not keep from flying to the princess’ lieutenant of the stories and tales. Might this artifact serve as his first major proof of the legend that had captured his imagination?
His gaze lifted from the compass to meet Violet’s expectant one, ready to speak his hopes. But, even as he did so, the sound (or so he could only imagine) of a sword at someone’s hip as they moved and the creak of leather arrested Henry’s ear. He turned, startled, at such an incongruous noise for a research site, only to find that no one stood anywhere near he and Violet, as if the sound had come from nowhere beyond his own imagination.
Uncertain eyes flew to his companion, who looked back at him in concern, but Henry forced himself to swallow the strange impression he’d had, sure he would sound crazy if he brought up what he’d heard. Instead, they wrapped and catalogued their find properly for transport back with them, talking about what it could mean… and to whom they both had to wonder if it might once have belonged.  Even in the elation of success and discovery, the feeling of lingering over his shoulder did not leave Henry easily, staying with him for the rest of the morning.
~~~~~~~~~~***~
That evening after dinner, once more in his quarters for the night, Henry’s thoughts were still on the compass as he plunged back into his accounts and stories, all the information on the Princess and her legend, and though he had mostly committed to memory all that was before him, he still pored over the details in hopes of a mention of the compass they had found in order to confirm his suspicions.
As the team leader, items discovered and picked for transport or further research had been logged and stored with him. And though Henry attempted to reason the need away, tried to convince himself that there were no details he had missed, nothing else to see, and that he needed to go to bed, to not spend another night with too little sleep, and instead be rested and well-prepared for the next day’s work, he was still impelled to stand and go over to take out the compass once more; the need would not be denied.
Once the instrument was cradled in his hands, the weight of it steadying to a surprising degree, Henry sunk down on the side of his bed, scrutinizing the relic with focused curiosity. What was he still missing?  Several deep breaths, a few pounding heartbeats, went by as he pondered the instinct guiding him.
Then, with a disconcerting effect that shook him and sent a tremor down his spine, the air around him seemed to waver, undulating dizzily and clouding the borrowed room before his very eyes. Drawing in a shuddering breath, Henry blinked, in hopes of clearing his sight, only to find his perception unchanged as they opened again. The lightheadedness forced Henry to lie back on his pillow, a rather clouded grey beginning to close in on his awareness, vision tunneling to his fingers still clutching the compass tightly - until it was all he could see.
His eyes closed, as surely as if he had been suddenly put to sleep, and then he felt as though he were floating, moving through space even as he knew he was lying still. And then, though he couldn’t fathom how, he stood in the tower of his dreams - whole and shining new as it had not been for some hundreds of years - unseen and right next to a stunning, golden-haired woman who could only be Princess Emmaline…
“Killian, go! You must be away from here before they come with my evening meal,” her voice is quick and urgent as she tries to push him toward the window of her cell, through which he had climbed not even an hour before. “If they catch you, you’ll be arrested. You’re wanted for piracy.”
The dark haired young man, lean and strong, despite appearing more long haired and less neat than he had as a royal navy lieutenant stands firm, well-muscled enough from days spent steering a ship through wind and rain and all other obstacles besides, impossible for her to move unless he allows it. He has waited too long to see her again, and he is not anxious to relinquish the sight of her beautiful face now that it has been restored to him.
“Easy, lass, easy,” he soothes, looking for all the world as if soldiers and guards, arrest and punishment, holds little concern for him.  In truth, he would face those and more as well for her sake, but he has also changed much in the months since his flight from royal service. He is a captain now, not the uncertain, eager-to-please junior officer he had been. Now he gives the orders, his crew (those loyal few who’d followed him into exile) follow his lead and go where he sees fit. “I’ve plenty of time yet… and...I wish to spend every second that I can with you.”
Only here, when addressing his true feelings for his princess, his first and only love, does he show a moment’s hesitance and a lingering sign of the shy young man he once was. Truthfully, he does not know whether or not there is a price on his head, or if he is being sought after diligently; Emmaline’s parents themselves did not agree with the steps taken to hide their daughter away. Whether they truly view him as a dangerous criminal to be apprehended, or more of a rebel with the freedom to act where they could not, Killian Jones is not sure. The King and Queen are constrained by duty to all of their people, where he is loyal first and foremost to his Princess above all others.
Unfortunately, their time is drawing to a close. He can hear the muffled tread of booted feet hurrying up the winding staircase, and knows that soon those who stand guard over Emmaline’s safety, but also make sure she remains in her prison, will reach her room. Much as he loathes leaving her behind again, he knows she is right. He dares not remain and have to fight people who are on the same side, compatriots in service of Misthavia, even if they interpret their orders much differently than he.
Turning to her once more, taking Emmaline’s hands in his, and gazing into her wide, green eyes and her tense face full of worry for him, Killian voices the question he has asked every time he steals back to her side in this long year past. “Come with me. You don’t have to stay locked away here. We could sail the world and be free.” It kills for her to be trapped and alone, paler with each visit he manages, dark purple bruises from sleepness beneath her eyes. Though he knows what her answer will be before he finishes speaking, Killian still has to ask.
His brave, bright angel shakes her head, yellow-gold hair flying around her like a halo, even as a slow tear makes its slow trek down her cheek. “You know I can’t, Killian. My place, my destiny, is here. Though my people fear me now, they need me… My parents need me… I can’t desert them.”
Much as he regrets it, Killian knows her honor will allow her no less. Sadly, he bows his head over their joined hands to kiss the back of hers, murmuring, “As you wish, my Love,” against her skin. Before he turns to climb into the window frame and grab the rope he had used to climb once more, he presss an object into her grasp - the compass he had received upon his naval promotion to lieutenant. “Hold onto this for me at least, aye?  As promise of my return.”
His Emmaline nods tearfully, letting him go and stepping back, but pressing the compass to her breast. “You always return, Killian,” she replies. “I know that.”
His blue eyes brighten the smallest bit at her faith in him, allowing them both to hold onto hope. “And I always will,” he vows. Then he grasps the rope, swings from the window, and is gone.

Help my mom survive cancer
In September my mom was diagnosed with uterine cancer. It was caught early, and her doctor’s were confident that a hysterectomy surgery would be the only treatment needed, however they stated that after removing all of her parts they’d still have to do biopsies in the lab to make sure it hadn’t spread through to her ovaries or anywhere else before giving her a clean bill of health. The surgery was performed on October 9th, and went well enough, and other than some standard pain and sickness, she’s healed up relatively well.
However, just two days ago she received a call from her doctor. Her biopsies came back showing that the cancer had spread, and she was given a new diagnosis of ovarian cancer as well. Even though the ovaries were taken out, the fact that the cancer had spread that far before the surgery means that her cervix and other organs/lymph nodes could be affected. She is now going to have to have chemotherapy treatments as well.
To top it off, upon informing her employer she was promptly fired from her job. They made up some excuse about her not performing her duties properly and negatively affecting the office, which is absolute bullshit. She’s already filed for unemployment and is going to be speaking with a lawyer about beginning a wrongful termination lawsuit against the employer, but these things could still take a long time. And with her new cancer diagnosis and needing chemo treatments it will be difficult for her to find a new job. My stepdad already works two jobs to help support them, and the loss of her income is a heavy blow to them right now.
My mom is only 45. When she was 33 she was diagnosed with breast cancer, which she survived, but now she has to deal with cancer all over again, and in a much more serious manner. Being older, going through menopausal changes, and getting cancer in an organ area make this even harder to fight against.
My stepdad has set up a gofundme page to try and raise money for her treatments and to help with their bills until she can get a new job, or something else works out. If you can, I ask that you please donate, and share this around so that others may find the link. They really need all the help they can get right now.
My mom and I had a very rough relationship for several years when I was a teenager/young adult, and we have just recently been able to get back to a good place with each other. She made a lot of mistakes that hurt me and made it hard for me to keep a relationship up with her for a long time. But things are different now. I don’t want to lose her when I feel like I just got her back from how things used to be. My mom is such a bright and wonderful person, always able to make friends with everyone, joking and laughing about even the worst things in her life, and she does her best to take things in stride. She has a lot of friends that are supporting her and trying to encourage her positivity. But it’s still hard to keep your head up when things like this hit.
Please, please help her if you’re able. Even just sharing this makes a big difference.
Here is the link to the gofundme page:

Ice to Meet You
Merry Christmas @ladynightmare12 ! I hope you enjoy the fic!! <: I had a lot of fun with the soulmate AU, since it’s something I’ve always enjoyed. I combined it with the first meetings AU too. Have a great Christmas! <3
****
Wirt had given up on trying to find his soulmate when he was thirteen. He still remembered the conversation that came after he mentioned it to his mom. She had choked on her tea, wheezing until she’d managed to regain control of herself again. Then began the spiel about, “Oh, sweetie. You’ll meet her at some point in your life, don’t give up now!” and Wirt just sighed. Internally, of course. He didn’t want to upset his mom any further. A good bit of everyone in his grade had found their soulmate, leaving Wirt feeling terribly alone. Sara tried to comfort him, except she ran into her soulmate a few months later; it was some guy named Brian. That was a fun day.
He was a little more than relieved to graduate high school, which meant moving away to a college in a different state. A college in Oregon had caught his eye and he applied, half expecting to get denied. But lo and behold, the college actually accepted him and even had a full ride scholarship too.
Greg was against Wirt moving across the country when he broke the news. Wirt reassured him that he would call every day and keep in touch. He wouldn’t be left out just because Wirt didn’t live in the same house anymore.
Wirt enjoyed the trip to Oregon. His parents rented a small u-Haul for the stuff Wirt could take to put in his dorm. He was lucky enough to score a single person room, complete with his own bathroom. He didn’t think he could have managed if he had to share a dorm and a bathroom, much less having to suffer from public bathrooms.
They made the drive out to be like a mini vacation, taking their time since they left a few days early. Wirt’s nerves almost got the best of him a few times, the realization of him living somewhere that wasn’t with his mom and stepdad. Thankfully Greg managed to quickly distract him before he grew too anxious, eerily able to quickly figure out when his nerves were beginning to act up.
With the help of everyone, it didn’t take long before Wirt’s room was set up. He still had a few things to tweak here and there, like moving his desk closer to the window and hanging up his poems on the walls. He didn’t have much time to be particularly picky about how his room was set up with his parents and brother around.
They stayed in town for a few days, exploring the place with Wirt in tow. It definitely was a college town considering the absurd amount of fast food restaurants around. Like seriously, who needed this many fast food places? At least there were a few cafes for Wirt to hang out in. Cafes were pretty sweet places to chill at and they had a great effect on Wirt when it came to writing poetry. He was excited about that.
Tears were shed by his mom and Greg on the day they had to leave. Greg made Wirt promise to call him every day, and that was a rock fact. Wirt lingered in the parking lot for a bit longer than he intended, staring off into space before letting out a long sigh. He hoped he would be able to survive the semester before Christmas break. His next adventure in life had begun, only to bring challenges he had no way to prepare for.
Wirt got to studying diligently when the semester began. The majority of his classes were the core classes every freshman were required to take, including math. Thank god that he only needed to take two semesters of it due to his major in English. Math was one of his most detested classes; it was the worst. Maybe he was being overly dramatic, but Wirt would rather prefer to listen to someone scrape their nails on a chalkboard repeatedly for hours than be stuck in math class for even an hour. The entire point was above him, and the fact that other kids were majoring in math just blew his mind. They were to be feared.
The semester started out slow but picked up steam as the weeks went on. Midterms came and went, letting Wirt breathe a sigh of relief when his passing grades were posted.
He video called Greg before he went out trick or treating on Halloween, both happy and mortified that Greg decided to go as a garden gnome. Their trip to the Unknown was still very present in their minds years after it happened. At least now it was easier to deal with, and they didn’t have to worry about being sent into a fit of panic when winter rolled around anymore. Wirt admitted that Greg wore the outfit far better than he did, earning a protest of “No, you wore it better!” from Greg. They bickered back and forth until their mom told them to knock it out or else Greg wouldn’t be getting any candy that year. That shut Greg up and he hastily told Wirt goodbye and that he’d show him how much candy he got before going to bed.
Wirt found himself growing progressively more stressed as the end of the semester rolled around. His professors shoved study guides down their student’s throats and made it very clear that passing their finals would make or break their grades. Wirt found himself spending more and more time at his favorite cafe. He would have been surprised that he hadn’t drunk all of their tea if he wasn’t so stressed about passing his finals.
A week before finals, the unthinkable happened.
Wirt was on his way to the Jasmine Brew Cafe, lost in thought about his upcoming math final. It was the one he dreaded the most, and rightfully so. Other students in his class struggled as much as he did. The professor didn’t know how to break down the lesson so other kids could understand what he was trying to teach. Wirt barely managed to understand what the heck he was talking about most the time, and he hoped it would be enough.
Of course, the dork was so lost in thought that he wasn’t watching where he was walking. His foot made contact with frozen ice on the sidewalk, causing him to slip and fall down to the pavement. Wirt miraculously held onto his notebooks, laying on his back, winded from his fall.
Someone with unruly brown hair peered down at him with a look of mild concern. Wirt wished he could turn invisible because he knew that everyone around him saw what just happened.
“Hi there. It’s ice to meet you finally.” The other boy paused, before continuing. “I hope that’s not weird? I’ve seen you around campus before and I noticed you were always alone and I was going to say hi but I always got distracted and oh my god I’m sorry I’m kinda rambling. I tend to do that a lot and my sister always punches me and yep I’m gonna shut up now.”
Wirt’s wrist burned. That was what his stupid soulmate mark said. ‘Hi there, it’s ice to meet you finally.’
He wanted to say something witty back, but all that could come out of his mouth was, “Was that a motherfucking pun?” He rarely cussed, but dangit he was sleep deprived and angry that he was stupid enough to fall and slip on ice.
The other boy blanched, his extended hand frozen in shock. Wirt shuffled to his feet, clutching his notebooks to his chest. An awkward silence enveloped the two, only to be broken by the other boy.
“Do you want to go somewhere warm? Get some coffee or something?”
Wirt broke free of his surprise. “Uh, um, sure. I was heading to the Jasmine Brew Cafe to get some studying done. It’s right up the street here.”
“Cool. I’ve only been there once or twice, so lead the way.” He stuck his hands in his pockets, looking at Wirt expectantly.
“Right.” Wirt turned on his heels and began walking to the cafe, fidgeting with the spiral of a notebook. He knew that he was probably acting slightly like a jerk. Okay, a lot like a jerk. He had spent the majority of his teenage years resenting the idea of soulmates, knowing he’d never find his and that he’d live the rest of his life alone. But look what happened. He ran into his soulmate.
The rush of warm air made Wirt feel grateful for heating, heading to his usual spot by the wall. He sat with his back to the wall, and a large window to his left. Being able to look out into the street helped declutter his mind.
He almost relaxed, until the other boy - his soulmate - slid into the chair across from him. He looked as nervous as Wirt was.
“I’m Dipper, by the way. I don’t think I introduced myself yet.”
“Wirt. It’s um, nice to meet you, I guess,” he mumbled, his awkwardness hitting him like a fricking train. Now that the fact that yep, him finding his soulmate was a thing, was starting to sink in, a feeling of panic also begun to set in too.
“Hey, are you okay? You look like you’re freaking out there a little. I mean, I’m kinda freaking out too, but that’s because I’m super pumped to have finally run into my soulmate.” Dipper looked giddy almost.
Wirt chewed on a nail. “Y-yeah, I’m okay. It’s just… I gave up on finding my soulmate years ago, so I never thought I would actually run into them. I hope you don’t think I’m a jerk or anything because oh my god I feel so bad for being cold to you.”
When Dipper was silent, Wirt looked up to find him holding back a snicker. With the biggest shit eating grin, Dipper replied, “Was that a motherfucking pun?”
“Oh my god.” Wirt groaned, dropping his face into his hands. “Do not use my own words against me.”
“Kinda hard to considering they’re right here.” Dipper rolled his sleeve back, revealing the words scrawled across his arm. God, they were even in Wirt’s own handwriting. How crazy was that?
Wirt reached out to touch the words on Dipper’s arm, stopping short once he realized what he was about to do. “Sorry.”
“It’s okay. I know it’s a lot to take in. But I don’t mind if you wanna take a closer look at them.” His voice was quiet.
Figuring that he may as well roll with the punches, Wirt pulled his own sleeve back, exposing Dipper’s godawful pun written on the inside of his forearm. Dipper didn’t hesitate before running his fingers over Wirt’s pale skin, tracing the scratchy letters of his own handwriting. It looked different from his own, his letters rushed and hurried versus the flowing loops of Wirt’s.
Wirt finally caved and traced the words on Dipper’s arm. The two dorks sat in silence, no words needing to be exchanged as they let the importance of the day truly sink in.
The corners of Dipper’s mouth quirked up in a grin after a while. “So, did you wanna get a coffee and chat? And maybe tell me how you’ve bean all these years.”
Wirt had a feeling the puns weren’t ever going to stop.

Today is October 9th, which marks 11 years since my stepdad passed away from brain cancer at the age of 48. He was robbed of being able to live the second half of his life. The second half where he would have retired, spent time with his grandchildren, go to the beach with my mom for long walks and have the time to live his life after working for most of it. I will never forget when my stepdad helped me turn a spare room in our basement into my very first art studio, he put up custom shelving and a desk. I painted the walls hot pink... he didn’t like my choice but it was on sale (I was in HS and waitressing for $5 an hour) so I thought I scored 😃 After seeing what I was creating with clay, my stepdad told me, “you are going to do something special in your life” As a teenager, I didn’t fully comprehend what he said to me It wasn’t until I came back to my art in 2012 that I knew what that special thing was, Freedom4Ewa 💟 Freedom4Ewa is so special and it is my everything, it is about healing my trauma through my art and sharing my story. Connecting with other survivors and developing those connections into lifelong friendships. Freedom4Ewa is bigger than me, it is a movement, a movement that I hope will show the world how truly powerful Love and Empathy are! I am grateful to have the opportunity at the age of 35 to be able to fully immerse myself into creating and helping others. I am truly living my life, doing what I am meant to do. I survived for this! Live your life everyday with love in your heart! ♥️Smile at someone ♥️Spend time with a loved one ♥️Open the door for a stranger ♥️Take a walk with a friend ♥️Write a letter to your partner ♥️Make time for what and who you love #anniversaryofdeath #stepdad #braincancer #toyoungtodie #memoriesmade #firstartstudio #artstudio #kindheart #makingadifferencetogether #fulltimeartist #healingjourney #artheals #artsaves #maketimeforyou #loveispower #empathyiseverything #domesticviolencesurvivor https://www.instagram.com/p/CGH440JDI7Y/?igshid=1o95o6h1ge85x

Ravyn's Top 3 Scary Adventures
In the Spirit of Halloween, I'm sharing my top 3 spooky adventures! (Someone pointed out to me that the fact that I even have a top three is something to be concerned about.) All are true (though whether you believe or not is up to you), all happened to me, and all scared the crap out of me. They're in order from least scary to most scary, so here you go - remember to read at your own risk!
THREE
Earlier this year, I was working the overnight shift at the hotel I had worked at. It was a really slow night – no late check ins, not even half the hotel full, and everyone that was staying the night was there for a veeeery early morning conference. So I was very much alone for the night. No biggy! I'd been working overnights for a few months already. The nights alone weren't spooky anymore.
This night, though.
Around 1am I head the elevator doors open behind me. There was a wall separating the desk from the elevators, and all I usually had to do was turn my head and watch the corner of the wall for whoever was coming out of the elevators so I could greet them with a smile and see if they needed anything. So I turned to face the corner and waited. And waited.
Nobody was coming around the corner.
I frowned, and my immediate thought was that either someone fell asleep in the elevator (6 floors and the elevators ran slow), or they were reeeeally slow getting off. So I rounded the corner and went to go check it out for myself.
The doors were still open, and no one was inside.
I stood there scratching my head – and after a few moments I heard a door slam down the hallway, towards the end of the hall of first floor rooms. I didn't see anybody. From the elevators I had to clear view allll the way down to all the doors to the rooms on the first floor. All of them except the conference room door. All of them. So seeing as I didn't see anybody leave the elevators and I didn't see anybody walk down the hallway to their room, I was unsettled. But I dismissed it as maybe not paying as much attention as I should have, shrugged, and went back to filling out the dozens of reports that needed to be done by 2:30am.
By 2am I was done with my reports so I was just sitting there browsing Tumblr. I heard a familiar 'ding!' and the sound of the elevator doors opening, and so I turned to face the corner to see who would come out. Nobody did.
I darted quickly around the corner, sure that someone was either playing a prank on me or that I was hearing things, but the doors were open and nobody was there. Again, I stood there in confusion scratching my head, when a bang of a door sounded down the hall. It was a familiar bang – the bang of the conference room door. Like I said earlier, it was the only door that couldn't be seen from the elevators, as it was just inside the ONLY alcove on the first floor.
“Aha!” I shouted, running over to the door, ready to catch the culprit. “Excuse me, but you're not allowed to be in the conference room, it's currently - “
I stopped short. The door was locked. And the only way to lock it? A key that was hanging from my belt. Fun fact: I hadn't locked up the conference room that night. Just to be sure, even though my gut was telling me something wasn't normal there, I checked the peep hole into the room. Sure enough, no one was there.
Seconds later, I heard the elevator doors opening again, and this time I didn't waste any time waiting and ran to the doors while they were still opening.
No one was on the elevator. And then another door slammed shut down the hall.
For the next few hours of my shift I continuously heard the elevator doors opening, with no passenger ever getting off and a door slamming shut shortly after.
As soon as the first person woke up and came down for a cup of coffee, it all stopped.
TWO
Several years ago, when I was still living with my mom and stepdad, my brother had the odd room over the garage. When we moved it, CK (my little brother) had a dresser and shelves and all sorts of sorting nonsense that he used for his clothing and whatnot, and thus never used his closet. Then one day my mom decided it was a GREAT idea to put the kid computer in his room, thus moving a huge desk in there and rearranging everything and welp, suddenly the closet was being used. In fact, Mom thought it would be cool to just take the closet doors off completely and put on of the shelves in there. It looked cool, but...that's when the trouble started.
From that day on, CK had nightmares. Almost every night. And more than 3 times a week he'd come to my room crying and begging me to sleep on the spare bed I had in my room (don't ask why I had a spare bed, I'm still not sure myself). Mind, CK was 12 at the time. Sometimes I said okay, sometimes I was a stupid teenage girl and told him to stop being a baby and go sleep in his own bed because I didn't want to hear his breathing.
Well, one day I was on the computer in his room, and for the first time I'd lost track of time and stayed in past sundown. It was agreed that we'd all vacate the room by 6pm so that CK could get have his room to himself. I remember reading a Harry Potter fic (a really, really good one), glancing at the clock and seeing it was 8pm, and a very sudden chill running down my spine.
There was no light in the room except for the brightness of the computer screen, and in the corner of my eye I could see...something in the threshold of the closet. Something tall and dark and menacing. I didn't turn to look. Something was telling me that if I looked, it would be bad. Very bad. So, as calmly as I could, I saved where I was in the fic, left a short review, logged off the computer, and carefully stood and walked out of the room, not looking at the closet.
I went to sit next to CK, who was in the game room playing a game on the Xbox, and told him that I was sorry for turning him away from my room when he didn't want to sleep in his. He said it was okay, and told me that he didn't like his room because of the man in the closet.
I didn't turn CK away again after that.
ONE
I'm sure many of you have read stories about sleep paralysis. I'm almost 100 percent certain mine wasn't.
3 and a half years ago, while living in a 1 bedroom apartment with my friend H, I woke up in the middle of the night. The kind where you are barely awake, look around the room to see what might have woken you, and then just fall back into slumber. I was on my stomach, one hand tucked in the crack between the head of my mattress and the wall, and the other curled just on the edge of the mattress that faced the room at large. I remember blinking blearily, glancing around the room, and deciding to go back to sleep.
The moment before I closed my eyes, I noticed something. A tall, dark figure standing next to my bed. Tall, dark, with the form of a long trench coat, and a top hat. And as soon as I saw the figure, I was frozen.
The blankets were ripped off me, and something – not hands, just something – grabbed onto my legs and started pulling me off the bed. I couldn't move anything other than my fingers, and my fingers were in so much pain from the trying to keep from being dragged off my bed and from the awkward hold they were forced into from the mattress edges. My effort was futile.
I hit the floor with a thump, and the thing was dragging me slowly across the floor. Movement was slowly returning to my hands and arms, and I frantically scrambled for some sort of purchase hold, but the only things on the bedroom floor were small articles of dirty clothing and were therefore useless.
Then I saw H, sleeping peacefully in her bed. Unaware of what was happening not 5 feet from her.
I was getting closer and closer to the door. My heart was pounding, and I tried to scream. I couldn't. I tried again. All that came out was a small whine. I sucked in another breath, preparing to scream -
And woke up. In the exact same position I started in.
Needless to say I didn't go back to sleep for several hours, but I passed it off as a really, really bad nightmare. WELL...
The next day, both my cats were in the room when I heard something thud in the other room. H wasn't home. I heard someone calling my name at all hours of the day from the other room. I heard wind in my bathroom when there wasn't any outside. My cats would stare at nothing. At night the shadows in the corner of the bedroom were darker than before.
And a week after the “nightmare”, I was washing dishes in the kitchen when I heard a huge “crack!” from the living room which cause my cats to scatter away from me in a panic. I dried my hands quickly and rushed into the living room to see the floor-to-ceiling blinds a mess behind my couch, and when I peeked behind it I saw my book back spilled by the base of the window. The book bag?
Originally by the front door with 5 college text books in it.
I grabbed my purse, my phone, and a pair of flip flops and raced out of the apartment. That night I burned sage.
It all stopped.
