Build Up Episode 6, Part 2: Team Gruff N’Smooth vs Team Sweeties
Tumblr media
Welcome back to the only recap series written by me that is about Build Up -- this one! In the previous post, we said goodbye to a beloved trio. In this post, we’ll cover the next round of the 3x3 De4th Match, in which Team Sweeties takes on Team Gruff’n’Smooth, and we’ll lose one of them. (Those are my names for these teams, but they’re good names.) Let’s face the music.
Dahee calls the next two teams up on stage.
Tumblr media
Left to right: Inhyuk, Haram, Sunyoul
First up is Team Sweeties, which I’m tempted to rename Team Absorbant in view of their terrycloth blazers. In the previous round, Choi Haram and Hwang Inhyuk performed To My Youth and came in 4th place; new recruit Sunyoul performed End of a Day with Donghun, and lost.
Tumblr media
Left to right: Taewoo, Neon, Sanghyun
Their challengers are team Gruff’N’Smooth. In the previous round, Lim Sanghyun and Taewoo performed Downpour (though it wasn’t really shown) and came in 6th place; new recruit Neon performed Hmm Cheat with Seunghun, and lost.
Sanghyun looks really different from he did the last time we saw him, I think because he parted his bangs in the middle and brushed them to either side. I think it actually looks pretty good.  Neon is wearing a weird short sleeved cardigan over a long sleeved shirt and I don’t know. I just don’t know.
The guys backstage are all like, these are both good teams. And they’re right.
Sanghyun’s team introduces themselves by saying, “We’re TAEwoo, NE-on, and SANG-hyun. Tae-ne-ssance!”
They explain what that means but it doesn’t make any sense so that’s fine.
Haram’s team sings their intro, or tries to. It’s uncomfortable. Let’s skip over that. They call themselves “Three Tofu” because they’re not threatening, they’re soft -- hence the white clothes. Ok, I’ll give them that.
Backstage, Woong is commenting on everything that’s happening, and teammate Lee Minwook is like, You are doing a solo instagram live over here.
The judges ask Neon what it was like joining an established team, and he said they got along like really old friends. “Like a dog and a cat, we practiced bickering,” he says, and the editors do this.
Tumblr media
Ok, I mean, sure.
Hmm… does this mean that maybe they didn’t get along well? Was Sanghyun too pushy about song selection? Let’s do a flashback…
They’re somewhere chatting, and they all have iced coffees with no milk, and it looks like they also have a tray with bagged snacks on it, like you’d see at an office.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Taewoo looks much nicer with his hair kind of normal than how he normally looks on stage with his hair kind of spiked, don’t you think? Also: s w e a t e r.
Neon, who isn’t looking super happy, says that he’d prefer to do a pop/r&b style song, which is his strength, and that he thinks the team could be successful in. Sanghyun pauses for a longish time and says, “But… I’m really bad at pop.” Taewoo says, “What about Korean R&B?” Sanghyun is like, “I’m not good at that either.”
I am not a big fan of it when someone is like “there’s only one thing I’m good at, and I’m not going to stretch myself to try new things.” Like, at least try????
Neon:  “Isn’t there a song you want to try with us three?”
Sanghyun: “A ballad song.”
Neon: “Didn’t you do ballads for the first two rounds?”
Sanghyun: ….
Neon: “A ballad AGAIN?”
We get a flashback of Sanghyun choosing a duet partner primarily based on who would sing a ballad with him, and we hear Sanghyun whispering, “I can only do ballads. I can’t do R&B.” Well, then, maybe you’re not well-suited to be in a vocal group that will do a variety of styles!
Taewoo is obviously a little irritated -- maybe he didn’t *really* want to do Downpour for the second round. He says now, “If you close it to a certain genre, there’s not much that our team can do. If you go into it with that kind of mindset, the future seems closed off.”
Sanghyun tries to explain that it’s just because the other two are so good at R&B and he’s not confident, but Taewoo is not letting him off that easily. “Don’t you want to challenge yourself and try something new?” he asks. “I want to win like, 100 to 0. Neon and I are good at R&B. Hey, what’s with that facial expression? Mind how you look.”
I guess Taewoo is older than Sanghyun!
Neon interviews that he’s worried. Me too, Neon. Me too.
They try out singing Hopeless Romantic, which you might remember from Queendom Puzzle and which has lived on my playlist for months. I know, I know, I said I don’t like ballads but Lee Suhyun from AKMU has my favorite voice on the planet. But Sanghyun is like, no, not that song, because.... reasons??? I don’t understand why Sanghyun couldn’t at least try Hopeless Romantic since it’s basically a ballad…????? But nope.
Then they try Bambi by Baekhyun, which Sanghyun also rejects.
Finally they try a ballad called Forest by Choi Yuree, which was the only song that Sanghyun would agree to do. Look, the song is very pretty, if you like that kind of thing. But it’s just a bit boring. It’d be nice to have on in the background while you chat with a friend over a glass of wine or coffee. But it’s not going to win a death match, in my opinion.
It’s a strange song, though, if you read the lyrics.
I want to become that forest over there Will you climb up the small hill And look at me? Even if it's just a small corner of my heart…. I want to become that forest over there Even if my clothеs get soaked in tears Oh, did I mеntion it was the sea? Then can I throw away all my tears?
I don’t know, it gives me….
Tumblr media
IYKYK
I don’t think Taewoo or Neon is happy about it, but they agree to do Forest. Taewoo explains, essentially, that they needed to work together so they decided to do a ballad.
I just think they should have been like, “Sorry, dude, but majority rules. We’re doing Hopeless Romantic, and if you don’t want to do it, you can quit the show.”
It's just such a bummer. Sanghyun has decided to drag them to the ground by keeping Neon and Taewoo from doing what they do best. It’s a bummer, because Neon has one of my favorite voices on the show and I feel like this means we’re going to lose him. At the very least, we’re not going to see him do what he does best.
Tumblr media
They’re rehearsing together, practicing important things, like keeping your eyes completely closed while you perform, that kind of thing.
Sanghyun interviews that he thinks the song is great, though he’s not sure what Taewoo and Neon think. I think you are sure, my guy. I think you are sure and you just sort of don’t want to think about it. He says they’re going to do a different version of the song than the original, and he feels confident to have Taewoo and Neon with him, that they can’t lose. Yes, but dude, you clipped their wings. You clipped their wings and then expected them to fly you to safety.
As the guys take their positions on stage, the judges talk about how all three of the guys are great singers, but that they’re not sure that the team will be harmonious. VCG says that Sanghyun will do well but he’s not sure about the other two. Interesting.
The performance begins.
Tumblr media
Full version without reactions.
My thoughts:
Oof.
Oooof.
This… wasn’t good.
Tumblr media
Taewoo’s voice doesn’t match this song at all. This song requires soft, smooth singing, and his voice is rough and extremely textured. His high notes sound… not great. He also is a little… I don’t know, I guess I’ll call it “pitch optional.” I think he can keep exactly to the pitch if he wants to, but I think he sort of lets the exact pitch wander away a little from what it “should be” in the name of…. IDK, jazz?? I don’t totally understand Taewoo, and I’m kind of sad that this song makes it impossible for me to gain insight into him. He would have been so good at Hopeless Romantic, but this song is a complete mismatch. It’s like putting ketchup on ice cream. Makes two good things into one bad thing. It’s hard to listen to. I was never Taewoo’s number one fan, but I hope he puts out a version of Hopeless Romantic on Youtube or something -- I’d check it out for sure.
I still love Neon’s voice. It’s so gorgeous. Not nasal at all, it's so clean, but soft and textured and pretty, no matter what he’s singing. I wish I could say more about it, but honestly I feel like listening to him sing is all you need. You get it, right? This is pretty? Ok, cool. We’re cool. Also, you look nice today. Yes, you!
It’s a little difficult for me to evaluate Sanghyun fairly because I’m so irritated at him. He does gruff-soft-ballad voice well. I guess he sounds good? I don’t know, I’m too irritated. Sorry.
Oh boy, the harmonies don’t work. It’s like olives, vanilla ice cream, and ketchup. I actively don’t want to listen to this performance again. Did they record themselves singing and listen to it back? I’m kind of shocked at how unsuccessful this is.
In the MNET version, we see Solar and Baekho reacting delightedly at Neon’s beautiful voice right at the beginning. There are some appreciative nods at Taewoo. It’s hard to know what some of the other looks mean. The judges are giving it a shot; Wendy has her eyes closed and is swaying.
But when the guys get to the harmonies, the judges look more concerned.
Tumblr media
“I am a busy lady. I have a solo comeback to prepare for. I have still-healing fractures all up and down my right side. My agency is imploding and my sunbaes are all leaving. I have shit to do and the planet is on fire and my left shoulder is cold and my extensions itch and I HAVE TO LISTEN TO THIS???” -- Wendy, probably.
Tumblr media
“I wish I were hosting Make Handsome: Change! My Man right now.” - Solar, probably
Listening to it for a third time, I get more what they’re going for. Taewoo and Neon going deliberately off the beat and sort of ad-libbing around each other is supposed to give it an R&B feeling. But you can’t add an R&B feeling to this song just by ad libbing a lot. It’s like putting nutritional yeast on celery and calling it popcorn. Are you sick of my food metaphors? It's kind of my only way of explaining what is going on here.
Toward the end, Eunkwang pulls the face that I had to use as the image at the top of the post.
When they’re done, Jaehwan just… can’t.
Tumblr media
VCG applauds a little, and the others join in, but it’s not enthusiastic.
I think the guys know it didn’t go exactly great, either.
The judges mutter to each other -- “this was an unfortunate accident” -- “something’s wrong here, right?” -- “this is discord” -- “they had a fight.”
Eunkwang says exactly what I was thinking: “The vocal styles that you three are aiming for are definitely different….. It felt like the three of you were walking separately. To be honest, it felt like the other two joined Sanghyun’s ballad. That’s why you don’t feel like a team -- you feel like three great solo artists collaborating on a stage.”
Backstage, we see Bain’s team discussing how important it is that you do well as a team. Did they just go back there to the green room after their loss? I mean, where else would they go…? I guess I just sort of thought they’d leave. Maybe all the win/loss announcements happened at the very end, after all the performances.
VCG says that the song is “saying that ‘I’ll become the forest over there’ and let our imaginations take over the remaining space. But these guys, they made a forest and told us to come in. There’s too much style involved. All you have to do is just throw it. I’m hearing ‘I’m going to be good’ too much. Actually, listening to the end was difficult for me. I hope that through this performance, you learn that it isn’t always best to show all your emotions.”
Ok, I typed all that up rather than summarize it because I am flummoxed as to its meaning. Let me try to interpret it…?? I think maybe he means, “The original meaning of this song is a bit open-ended; it’s up to the listener to decide what it means when the speaker says she wants to become the forest. But in this performance, the emotions came through too much, and there was so much stylistic intrusion that all the nuance was lost and we were shoved into the sad forest. You could have just sung it simply, just let the song shine through. You weren’t really performing the song -- you were just showing off how sad you could sound when you sang.” Maybe…? I don’t know, team. If you have a better idea of what he meant, let me know.
Anyway, that didn’t go so well for Team Gruff N Smooth, did it?
Let’s check in with Team Sweeties.
They come out on stage -- backstage, Inhyuk’s biggest fan Park Jihoo is like “Inhyuk, kaja!!!” -- and they say kind things about the first team, which, I mean, they are Team Sweeties. Eunkwang and Wendy notice that Inhyuk and Sunyoul’s speaking voices sound a little hoarse, and the judges ask about it. Haram reassures the judging panel -- a little too strongly -- that they’re fine.
Tumblr media
Eunkwang, consulting the notes, tells us why they’re so hoarse: they had to rehearse a lot at the last minute because they changed songs only a few days before the performance!
We head into a flashback.
Tumblr media
The guys are hanging out in their winter coats inside, as you do, and they already look like a boy group, don’t they? They want to avoid doing a ballad, and decide to do Piano Man by Mamamoo. It’s jazzy, it’s fun, and it’s appropriate for a group with Haram in it. Seems like a great choice!
We see some of their rehearsals…
Tumblr media
Choreography!
I don't know, I think it sounds great.
But apparently, the “staff” (who we never see or hear from) say that there’s something wrong with the rhythm…? It’s unclear. The song is too difficult, I guess.
So, they have to have a cozy s w e a t e r and iced coffee meeting. Please, guys, invite me to the next one! And also stop drinking cold drinks; it's bad for your throat! Warm drinks only!!
Tumblr media
They decide that they have only two choices: try to fix Piano Man, or choose a new song. They have a slightly tense discussion, but it still never feels as tense as things got with the other team. Inhyuk seems to want to change songs, Sunyoul really wants to stay with the same one, and Haram seems to see value in both sides.
Sunyoul needs to go think in the bathroom, and when he comes back, he says that they can change songs and just work like crazy to figure it out. As if to emphasize what a headache this all is, then the poor guy bumps his noggin on the wall.
Tumblr media
I think it’s a good sign, right?
Sunyoul says he agreed to change songs because he trusted his teammates’ perspective. Throughout the discussion, you really do get a feeling like they trust and like each other and are working as a team.
They decide on a ballad after all, specifically Drawing Our Moments by Taeyeon from January of 2020. It’s a sweet, light love song, so even if it’s a “ballad," at least it's not a bittersweet reckoning of the inevitability of misery, you know? And that's a nice change from the other ballads we’ve heard so far on this show. It also has some power and vim and vigor and a few interesting chord progressions.
Sample lyrics:
Like everything’s been emptied, In my white heart I tried drawing you What I was met with was more brilliant than the morning The path placed in front of us, even when it looks dark The color that’s like you, when it spreads to me The light I saw in my dream that contained heaven I try drawing you
I’m not adding it to my playlist at the moment but it’s okay by me.  Still, I'm worried...
Tumblr media
They’re running their voices raw. It doesn’t seem like a good idea to practice so much.
It's performance day. As the guys prepare to sing, Wendy -- Taeyeon’s labelmate -- says the song is difficult because the first verse and the second verse have totally different vibes. I listened to the original song again after hearing her say that and I don’t totally get what she means, but I guess she knows what she’s talking about.
The performance begins.
Tumblr media
LTR: Inhuyk, Haram, Sunyoul
Full version without reactions.
My thoughts:
Overall, pretty good, but it could have been better. I could imagine this being a really lovely performance, in fact, if they hadn’t been dumb-dumb-heads who sang their throats hoarse, and then drank a bunch of cold drinks like dumb-dumb-heads. Sigh.
The arrangement is excellent, I mean truly excellent, with some cool harmonies that weren’t there in the original.  I like all three of their voices (well, I have issues with Inhyuk’s, sometimes, but I could see it working here) and they mostly did a good job. But especially in the beginning, when they were trying to sing softly, you could hear the hoarseness. Sunyoul’s voice can’t quite sustain a few of the longer notes. Haram can’t quite hit some of the low notes at all, and his falsetto sounds unsure and unsupported. Also, toward the end, at about 3:47 in the Youtube version, Inhyuk’s voice falters just that tiny bit. I'm not sure if the judges will pick up on it.
Also, given that this is a song about being happily in love, it’d be nice if they smiled more.
Tumblr media
On the positive end, from about 1:33 on, it starts to get much better. Sunyoul uses his chest voice to sing those high notes that Haram needed falsetto to hit, and then they head into that second verse with more power, adding in the harmonies. Really, from there on the song mostly sounds pretty great.
Tumblr media
I especially loved their harmonies in that weird bridge. Good stuff. They sound like a team.
Actually, after hearing this a few times, I’m liking it more and more. I like their version much better than the original -- their harmonies add a lot to the song. I also love the end. Just a really good arrangement. I bet Haram had a lot to do with it.
If this were a real vocal trio and they sang songs I liked, I’d listen to them for sure. As long as they rest their voices, of course!
In the MNET edit, it looks like the judges like their singing at the beginning, even in the parts that I thought sounded a little shaky, so that’s good. We do get a concerned Eunkwang face at Haram’s shaky falsetto, but that’s fair, and then Eunkwang looks very happy with Sunyoul’s high notes. Overall the judges look happy throughout. I mean, I think. It’s hard to tell sometimes.
Tumblr media
Wendy is smiling a little strangely but I think it’s because she recently got lip fillers and they haven’t settled in yet. I hope I don’t sound snarky when I say that. I get it, it’s part of her job to keep up with aesthetic standards, and I'm not mocking her. I just think it throws off her smile a tiny bit for now. Hope they settle down soon.
When the guys are done singing, the judges applaud. Wendy turns to Eunkwang and says, “They must have practiced a lot.” I’m not sure if she means that as a compliment (they did well!) or a criticism (they have hoarse voices!). Eunkwang says something about their “murky” voices, so I guess I know where he landed.
The guys in the green room think it was beautiful, and I do too.
The judges say…
Eunkwang says he finally gets what Sunyoul can do, like, he *gets* Sunyoul. He admits that yes, Sunyoul’s vocal condition led to some unstable parts but somehow it all worked.
Wendy praises Inhyuk’s emotional intensity.
Jaehwan says exactly what I thought: that the beginning was unstable overall, but it got better as it went along and the end was the best part.
Eunkwang says that Haram’s rhythm was a little off kilter. It kind of makes sense, since Haram is a concert pianist who is used to performing by himself and setting his own rhythm.
It's time to declare a winner.
The judges say they aren’t sure which team to vote for -- the team with better individual singers (the first team, apparently) or the team with better teamwork (the second team)?
Tumblr media
Backstage, it does seem that more of the guys think that Sunyouls’ team will win… and they’re right.
Only one judge votes for Neon’s team and the rest vote for Sunyoul’s. Want to guess who the one dissenting vote is?
Come on, guess.
Tumblr media
Blue is Sunyoul’s team. Naturally, it’s Jaehwan going against the crowd.
Tumblr media
I love the look on Sunyoul’s face here. I’m glad that we get to keep Team Sweeties; they’re sweeties and they did a good job, even if their voices were slightly hoarse. Sunyoul promises to keep trying their best, and Haram sweetly tells the other team that they also did a good job and that he loves them.
I feel awful for the other team.
Tumblr media
But Neon says they worked hard and have no regrets. “Thanks for the great experience,” he says, and Sanghun agrees.
The judges lament that we lost such great singers.
And that brings us to the end of this round!
I am really sorry to see Neon go.
But… you guys, I found a really mysterious song: Make a Wish by Neon. It’s definitely him. It has 78 views at the moment, and it’s on a page that doesn’t have any content. I know, that doesn’t make sense. How can it have no content and also have a video? I DON’T KNOW. Anyway, the song is really cool and I like it a lot. It’s kind of trip hoppy feeling, like ambient but with a bit of R&B feeling to it. So check it out if that sounds like something you’d like.
I found it by finding this: Neon’s page on a wiki somewhere. It’s in Korean but if you use Chrome it’ll translate it for you.
Ok anyway! That is the end of this post. Thanks for sticking with me. I’m off and don’t have to travel this week so hopefully I’ll catch up a bit. I mean, it’d be nice to be fully done with episode 6 before Episode 8 comes out, at least.
Alright, I’ll see you in the next one!

So Rebellion rewatch thoughts! This will defintely be  longer than any of the other ones because. Well. It's a movie. lol.
-It's interessting to start watching Rebellion right after the post credit scene from episode 12, because like the first scene of the movie really makes it feel like the labyrinth is being build. Like how you had flashes of what made up Oktavia's labyrinth in episode 9
-Btw I LOVE the track that plays during the first nightmare fight
-I'm going to pop that godforsaken Incubator's head like a balloon
-THE KYOSAYA SCENE FROM THE OPENING. SOBBING.
-You know how in the opening they're also shown throughout different seasons? I always wondered if that's an actual indicator of how much time passed inside the labyrinth or if it's just general opening shenanigans...
-Sayaka's little "Klar?" in the English dub is adorable actually hkadhjshd
-Sayaka and Kyoko's bickering,,,,because they're friends,,,, "We just started to become friends",,,, this shit is making me more emotional than it has any right to,,,,
-Egg boy!!!!!
-Sayaka's dramatics seem to be paying off because she's playing the role of the clueless friend really well
-I SAW THAT LITTLE GLANCE KYOKO AND SAYAKA JUST SHARED. I SAW THAT. FRUITS.
-THIS TALK IN THE FLOWERFIELD JUST MADE ME GET EMOTIONAL OVER THE 12TH EPISODE AGAIN
-Hitomi honey you also deserve better than Kyosuke too, that doesn't just go for Sayaka...
-Wait I never noticed how Mami is humming her own theme when she's brushing her hair haha!
-BEBE YOU ADORABLE LITTLE CREATURE
-God I love the scene on the rooftop because Sayaka dunking on Kyosuke and Kyoko teasing her about it is so funny fjsldh at least until she says she chalks it up to life experience and you later realize what that REALLY means.
But also the fact that they share a pocky. That is literally an indirect kiss. Oh my GOD you two.
-Bebe hissing at Kyubey is literally the funniest thing like you can tell she wants to bite his stupid face off so bad
-I love the Quintet's transformation scenes here, they're SO fucking cool
-A thing I noticed in the transformations though that at some point during Sayaka's you see runes flashing for a second (Which I'm 99% sure just mean her name), but I also checked if the others have them and guess what. The only other person who had runes was Homura. Which is neat considering she's a witch and Sayaka is... well, whatever it is she really is now.
-The fact that Sayaka fully related to Hitomi here because of everything... man.
-CAKE SONG!!!
-Also shoutout to Sayaka who's just literally vibing to the whole thing, and then just happily watches the whole dream play out... she's the goat
Tumblr media
-fjmsfjjd the little interactions of Sayaka and Kyoko just fooling around make me so fucking emo, because Sayaka knows,,, she knows
-Also the fact that they keep showing shots of places were significant stuff happened in the show, like the evacuation center, the alleyway or the train station, etc.... man.
-Ugh I love how the labyrinth slowly becomes more and more weird and uncanny throughout the movie, it's soooooo good
-"Crashing at Sayaka's place" ....and they were roommates- [GUNSHOT]
-Homura and Kyoko's friendship is soooooo important,,, oughghsgdhg
-The accordian in the OST is so good, although just the whole OST is really great tbh
-And the way Homura slips back into her more tough persona,,
-Dramatic hairflip my best friend
-Homura basically calling herself out for two minutes is actually a little funny jskdj
-It's interessting to think about that Nagisa definitely realized that Homura started to notice how things are, and definitely alarmed Sayaka in that same moment
-The whole conversation at Mami's makes me so soft... because like Homura is so much softer abt Mami, and Mami so openly talks about her feelings... justt ouhhgghhghh
-LET THE BEBE GO!!!! YOU MONSTER.
-Nvm what I said her tough guy persona is so silly sometimes, like girl shut the fuck up you know you love them all ugh
-God I love this fight between Mami and Homura because it really puts into perspective just what a fucking monster Mami is at her prime like holy shit
-The fact that Homura damn near blew her skull apart for this... like I can admire your dedication but jeez
-Also how Homura first aimed at the soul gem and had to force her hand down to aim at her tigh... that just really reminds you of how many times murder was her only option and the trauma she has from all that... oh Homura..
-THE FIRE EXTINGHUISHER LETS GO
-LOVE THIS FUCKING THING. THE NAGI!!!!
Tumblr media
-GOD THE ALLEYWAY SCENE. I LOVE IT.
-Sayaka having her vague cryptid moment is just GOD. Like yes you're doing great!!!
-Sayaka asking whether a world like this is really so bad both because she's sympathizing with Homulilly, but also because she wants to keep the world like that just a little longer I-
I'm just gonna- *points at this* "The mermaid witch; it is in her nature to fall in love. Looking for the feeling that moved her so long ago, she moves with the entire concert hall."
-Homura asking "Are you really Sayaka Miki?" followed by Sayaka's reflection turning into Oktavia as she says, "I'm the same old Sayaka you've always known, Transfer student." is such a good scene because it implies that her second name very much is true as well (which is even more ough especially after she just sympathized with Homulilly) but also is so horrifying considering every magical girl Sayaka always turned into a witch.. I find that moment so incredibly facsinating. Also it gives me goosebumps lol
-I'm also forever so very intrigued by this scene because I'm still sure this is Sayaka's way of switching forms. As her witchform being able to hide in water is the only way that you can explain how she got away so quickly despite the timestop, and can still talk after that.
Tumblr media
....I've been rambling a lot about this huh.
-Homura calling herself out part 2
-The whole scene with Homura and Madoka really was the final straw that led to Homura's silly goofy mood later on when they break out of the labyrinth, huh.
-I swear to god the final revelation is also SO fucking well made it's great.
-Also I'm still obsessed with the fact that Flame of Despair perfectly leads into Symposium Magarum when you cut them together. Like what the HELL is up with that, I NEED TO KNOW. WHY DO SAYAKA AND HOMURA'S WITCH THEMES GO TOGETHER LIKE THAT.
-Plottwist: The white cloth Homura had on is Sayaka's cape /j
-@ Kyubey: kys
-Damn I really do have no idea what to say... the whole final stretch of Homura turning into Homulilly always lesves me speechless tbh 😭😭
-Oh snap wait, there was a countdown just like before the fight with Walpurgis
-Again Sayaka at it by sympathizing with Homulilly because she knows exactly what the pain of being a witch is like,,,,
-God there it is. THERE IT FUCKING IS.
The way the whole scene with Sayaka is coloured just like Elsa Maria's labyrinth, Elsa Maria who had such a prominent role in Sayaka's downfall...
Tumblr media
And then this. The way Sayaka is fully in control of her orchestra, the way it shows how at peace she is even with the selfish and so horribly angry part of herself. The way her orchestra now is bright and colourful, the music it plays so incredibly hopeful, instead of the horrible symphony that is her deepest despair and all the emotions it's made of. It's the way she even lowkey ressembles her orginial pose as a witch, it's the balance between protecting what's dear to her and selfishness... it's so god damn important, Rebellion Sayaka is so important,,, *head in hands*
-Also I'm just gonna drop this here again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
-GOD I EZSKFZSKHS FUCKING FUCK. THIS SCENE.
Tumblr media
ITS THE WAY SAYAKA REACHES FOR KYOKO'S HAND HOW KYOKO REACHED FOR HERS IN THE EPISODE 9 ENDCARD, ITS THE WAY AND IM HOME HAS THE LINE PLEASE COME BACK AND BE WITH ME. ITS THE WAY KYOKO CALLS THIS, BEING WITH SAYAKA LIKE THIS, A DREAM. ITS THE WAY KYOKO HAS THE SINGLE TEAR DROP SHOT. ITS THE WAY SAYAKA REGRETS LEAVING KYOKO BEHIND BECAUSE KYOKO ALWAYS REFUSED TO ABANDON HER. ITS THE WAY SAYAKA ADMITS THAT KYOKO IS HER REASON FOR COMING BACK. ITS THE FACT THAT SOMEONE KYOKO LOVES LOVES HER BACK JUST AS MUCH THAT SHE COMES BACK FROM THE DEAD BECAUSE SHE REGRETS ABANDONING HER. ITS HOW SAYAKA FINALLY HAS FOUND THE FEELING SHE LONGED FOR THIS WHOLE TIME AND I'M!!! NOT!!! OKAY!!!!
...
Okay I'm normal again.
-"I'm ready" she says.... yeah I bet you are.
-Kyoko staring off longingly into the distance as she wonders about Sayaka and Nagisa just gave me the final punch in the gut
-It could've been such a happy ending... goddamnit you gayass
-The fact Homura says it's her emotion and her emotion alone, as if Sayaka's whole thing isn't love, yearning and longing and literally coming back from the dead kind of love.
But okay. Whatever you say.
-Honestly just the entire last bit is absolutely fucking nuts, like I literally cannot give you a proper coherrent thought.
-(Homura "It's only about Madoka (liar)" Akemi)
-Lmao Kyubey got trauma from that shit
-Also Homura your world is like a bajillion times more unstable and that's really concerning actually
-I love the Sayaka and Homura confrontation, it's great and also those two are just. lmao like you two keep beefing but you're literally both terrible (affectionate) just kiss already
-Also again, Homura being like "Guess you accidently got sucked in oops" as if you didn't do that on purpose because you love and adore all Quintet members fucking drama queen
-Oh the realization that Sayaka missed being human, missed being with everyone, that she actually yearns for life... GOD. I swear to god if they don't adress that in the new movie I'm gonna bite someone's head off
-The fact that they once again had a parallel their first time in that hallway from the first timeline. Man.
-Damn Homura you got friendzoned again.... which okay you've bee giving too many creepy vibes off so far oof. You should really see a therapist about that.
Everyone shut up this shot is the only one that matters (why do you two keep sharing pocky fucking christ see you in hell you stupid fruits)

Title: every day and every night.
Chapters: Uno - Dos - Tres - Cuatro - Cinco - Seis
Your nerves grew with every second that went by, all the scenarios of how Oscar and Cesar were in trouble or dead traveled your mind. It was 11:50am and you could feel how slow every second went by. It was like the clock stayed still and it was killing you softly. The news channel was on, reporting how Santos territory kept expanding. You had it on just in case something caught the news before the gang could know, before anyone could tell you the horrible news.
“Madre de misericordia, Maestra del sacrificio escondido y silencioso, a ti, que sales al encuentro de nosotros,” you stopped praying for a second when the name Santos was spoken on the TV once again. Your eyes went back to the front door after the reporter continued with non important details about the tags. “los pecadores, te consagramos en este día todos nuestro ser y todo nuestro amor. Te consagramos también nuestra vida, nuestros trabajos, nuestras alegrías, nuestras enfermedades y nuestros dolores”
At this moment in time praying was the only thing you could do that brought you peace and serenity. Asking for a higher force was giving you hope that Oscar and Cesar were going to walk from that front door at any moment.
Your body stood up the second the door squeaked, revealing Oscar’s tired yet victorious aura. It was like you could breathe again knowing he was okay and untouched from his enemies. Leaving the rosary on the couch, you jumped on his arms, thighs wrapped around his waist. He hold you tight to his body.
“You’re alive,” you sighed with relief, “I thought-”
“-hey,” he smirked, “I’m good.” Oscar put you down on your feet, looking next to him was Cesar giving you a small smile. “Estamos bien.”
He knew how hard it must have been for you to wait here until he came back. This could have turned very badly but it didn’t and you guys were thankful for that.
You brushed your fingers through your hair, pushing it backwards and breathing heavily yet smiling at both of them. “I am so happy you guys are back. Estaba preocupada.”
Oscar kissed your forehead before walking into the hallway and disappearing inside the bathroom. You looked at Cesar who was holding his backpack, his eyes roaming around the house. It was obvious that he instantly saw how different it looked yet how familiar still felt.
“Like what I’ve done with the place?” You asked him with a smirk.
Cesar nodded, “Looks different but feels the same.”
With a chuckle you shrugged and grabbed your rosary from the sofa, “I didn’t want to change too much, this is your home but it definitely needed some woman’s touch. I just cleaned it up a little bit and added things that needed to be added. I hope that’s ok?”
“It is,” he replied, “thanks for everything.”
You caressed his cheek, “Anytime, kid. Now go, take a nap on your bed.”
“Its been a while,” he murmured to himself.
“I know,” you said before leaving him to be and going in Oscar’s room.
Once inside you watched him how he was taking off his flannel and throwing it over the chair. He looked exhausted yet relieved to have his brother home.
“Can you promise me something?” You told him to close the door. His eyes met yours, he was curious about what you were going to ask him. You reached him, gazing at his hazel with green eyes. “If something ever goes sideways or….”
Oscar’s eyebrows furrowed full of worry, “Y/N-.”
“You are in a gang, Oscar,” you didn’t let him finish. “Anything can happen at any giving time. I know you are smarter than that but anything can happen and I-,” your voice broke, he caressed your chin, “I would hate to not be able to say goodbye.”
“Where is this coming from?”
“Today… I couldn’t keep my eyes off the front door. I thought in all the ways you could have died. All the ways your homies or the cops would tell me you’re dead. And all I wanted to do is to be able to speak to you… even if it was one last time.” You hugged him, his chin rested on top of your head. “I don’t want to feel like that… ever again but I know with your life I just have to deal with how to cope with this feeling every time you have to handle business but just- find a way… ¿Por favor?
When both eyes met, you noticed how soft and worried his look was. He wasn’t a man of much words but those eyes spoke a thousand words if you really knew how to listen.
“I promise,” he said kissing your lips.
/ / /
Later that day once Cesar got settled, Oscar decided to cook Ceviche for his brother's friends as a thank you for helping out with his brother. They were eager to know how they made the plan against the Prophet$ work. Jamal and Ruby were extremely surprised when Oscar’s plan worked, leaving Cesar safe and able to be back home.
“You gave our money away!” Jamal shouted.
Your eyes rolled out of habit as you took a sip from your beer. These kids were loyal and brave but those qualities didn’t take the big amount of annoying out of them.
“No, I gave them the marked ones from the Freeridge savings robbery.” Oscar told him.
Jamal sighed with relief, “Oh thank God for a second I thought you gave our money away.”
Oscar laughed with him as he squeezed a fresh lemon on top of the ceviche bowl. “No… I didn’t give your money away, you gave your money away and now it is mine.”
Both of the teenagers' relief turned into realization of what they have done. Monse was on the facetime call at the moment demanding to be moved around the table to speak with Oscar. You felt Jamal’s stare at you and you reciprocated the stare.
“What?” You cocked an eyebrow.
His eyes were wide open, “You are not going to say nothing? Aren’t you supposed to be on our side? Teacher’s pledge?”
You scoffed with amusement, “I am not your teacher anymore and you two messed up by giving your money in the first place. It was brave and loyal but shit, that was dumb now live with that consecuence. Besides what are you going to tell your parents if they see that kind of money around?”
“Lottery,” both of them spoke in unison.
Shaking your head you took another sip of the beer not believing these kids. Jamal once again began to bicker about the money and you could see how Oscar temperament was wearing thin. Everytime he began to get more and more mad his jaw would clench and shoulders began to look extremely tense. You gave him a smirk when your eyes met his, the kids were annoying but they were funny when they got pissed after realizing what a stupid move they made.
They continued to yell and complain until Jamal had it and stormed out of the house dragging Ruby with him. You couldn’t help but laugh at the over dramatic scene.
“Who wants more beer?’ you stood up and listened to how the two brothers called for one.
You grabbed two and turned to the table, looking at Cesar with your ‘mom’ eyes. “Just because we are celebrating but don’t get used to it, kid.”
Cesar gave you a smile holding the beer kind of liking how motherly you were towards him. He hasn’t had that in a while and it was nice to have someone that would treat him this way. Oscar observed how you treated his brother and smirked also liking your motherhood side.
“Thanks, mom,” he joked, making you and Oscar laugh.
This was the closest thing the three of you had to a family dinner in years. It was a feeling you haven’t felt since you left after High School thinking of looking for a better life. You missed this feeling on Christmas, New Years and all the holidays no matter how small they were. At this moment your boyfriend wasn’t in a gang, his little brother wasn’t thrown out for not killing someone and you weren’t part of anything. This felt like a family.
After lunch Oscar and you did the dishes letting Cesar get settled back. As you cleaned the dishes you kept your silence, you had something to say but you didn’t know how to say it. The last couple weeks have been extremely good, you liked living with him but now it was different. Cesar was back and you didn’t know if leaving or even if staying was an option.
“So,” you and Oscar said at the same time and chuckled afterwards.
“You first,” he said leaning against the counter and crossing his arms onto his chest giving you his full attention.
“I- I’m happy Cesar is back home where he belongs.” Oscar nodded not saying he was glad but you saw it in the spark coming from his eyes. “Now that he is back... I’m moving back to my place.”
His eyes went from happy to confused in a matter of seconds. “Why?” He asked.
“It was only temporary…” you said, “We talked about this, I was just making sure Cesar had a place to stay for a little while now he is back and-,”
“-you want to leave, again,” Oscar words made you unwell. “Why do you always leave?”
Standing in front of him you tried to decipher his eyes but this was something you couldn’t just figure out by not sharing words. “What do you mean? I’m leaving because I think you would want me gone now that your brother is back.”
“Well I don’t,” he said without flinching, “I want you here, every day and every night.”
This man was never a gracious talker but he always went straight to the point and that is why you loved him. Oscar's tone was sure and steady there was no doubt of what he wanted.
“I still need to make sure I am taking care of my dad and sister,” you told him.
Oscar grabbed the band of your jeans pulling you closer, “Somos vecinos for fucks sake. They’ll be alright, I promise.”
When you were about to kiss him the high noise of rap coming from Cesar bedroom startled you. “Goodbye quietness,” you told him.
“We can still go to your place from time to time,” Oscar smirked, kissing your lips.
You chuckled against his plump lips, “Hell yes.”

Without passion, we'd be truly dead (read on ao3)
Pairing: Stiles Stilinski/Derek Hale Rating: General Summary: “You’re not going to make fun of me for this, are you?” Derek asked as his thumb hesitated over the play button on the remote. Stiles shrugged and grabbed the controller, pressing play before Derek could argue.
“I am absolutely going to make fun of you for this, there’s no doubt in my mind.” Derek’s groan was drowned out by a British voice introducing the next episode and Stiles moved his focus to the recap, trying to take in the things he might have missed from not watching the show from the beginning.
For @sterekvalentineweek day six: Passion
“I can’t believe you’ve never seen Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” Derek exclaimed as Stiles popped open a bag of Cheetos, barely escaping the puff of powder that breezed out. “Scott and Isaac have both referred to you as the ‘resident nerd’ and you’ve never seen the cult classic that is Buffy the Vampire Slayer?” Derek shook his head and clicked over to one of the streaming services and a very badly edited photo of Sarah Michelle Gellar came into view.
“I saw the movie! Doesn’t that count for anything?” Stiles asked. By the displeased look on Derek’s face, Stiles figured that it very much, in fact, did not count. “It definitely doesn’t strike me as the kind of show you would be interested in,” Stiles noted, hoping the change in subject would force Derek to stop glaring at him.
“It wasn’t, at first, but it--” Derek cut himself off and leaned his head back against the back of the couch, taking a breath as if preparing himself to make some big admission. Stiles stayed quiet as Derek rubbed his palms against his thighs. “Laura loved it. She and my mother would watch it every Monday night and Laura had these ridiculous posters on her wall of Buffy and Willow and--” Derek cleared his throat and Stiles could hear the emotion behind it.
When he said nothing more, Stiles chimed in, “So, are we watching it from the beginning or are you gonna show me your favorites?” Derek turned to Stiles with a grin so wide, it had Stiles’ heart constricting in his chest and his stomach face flushing with embarrassment. He wasn’t sure when he had become able to make Derek smile like that, but he was extremely happy he could.
“I think you’ll never wanna watch another episode if we start with season one so…” Derek trailed off and clicked through a few episodes, his eyebrows rising and falling and his nose crinkling in decision. Stiles had never seen him look so childish, so innocent, and all he wanted to do was watch this stupid TV show with Derek forever.
“Find one?” Stiles guessed and Derek turned to him with another wide grin. Derek grabbed the bowl of popcorn from the coffee table, settling in as he nodded at Stiles slowly.
“If you have questions, you can--”
“I’m gonna ask about a million of them,” Stiles interrupted, taking a noisy bite of his first Cheeto and stealing a handful of popcorn from the bowl on Derek’s lap. “You’ve gotta have all the answers, though,” Stiles warned, holding a cheesy finger up to Derek’s face. Derek rolled his eyes and smacked it away, Stiles’ laughter filling the air.
“You’re not going to make fun of me for this, are you?” Derek asked as his thumb hesitated over the play button on the remote.
“Passion; it lies in all of us. Sleeping, waiting, and though unwanted, unbidden, it will stir, open its jaws, and howl,” Stiles heard the voice of the broody looking guy on TV, but underneath was a shy whisper and when he glanced over at Derek, he threw his hands over his mouth to stifle his giggles.
“Derek, oh my god,” Stiles choked out through his laughter, placing his snack beside him before it toppled over.
“What? It’s an iconic quote!” Derek argued. Stiles nodded and tried to be serious - he really tried - but Derek mouthed the next few words as if trying to hold them in and Stiles groaned.
“Just say them,” Stiles relented as he paused the show, turning to face Derek who was pressing his lips together tightly.
“You’re going to make fun of me…” Derek said, narrowing his eyes at Stiles.
“Of course I’m going to make fun of you, but I’m gonna do it whether you say the rest of the quote out loud or not, realistically,” Stiles countered. Derek sighed and pressed play again, his eyes not leaving Stiles’ as the male character started speaking.
“It speaks to us, guides us. Passion rules us all, and we obey. What other choice do we have?” Derek finished as the extraordinarily loud and obnoxious theme music blasted through the speakers. Stiles covered his ears and glared at Derek whose laughter rivaled the shrill of the guitar.
“If I didn’t know this was a 90’s television show, this music would have completely given it away,” Stiles commented as the sound faded into the show again.
“Just… keep watching,” Derek demanded, though his voice sounded shy. It was as if he was scared that Stiles wouldn’t like it and that made Stiles fall in love - with the show that is - even more.
Throughout, Stiles would make comments so that Derek knew he was paying attention. He would shout out, “He killed her fish? Man, that’s so fucked up” and, “That crazy vampire girl talks in riddles like Deaton.” Each time, Derek would nod in response, chuckle, and smile. He would even glance over and make sure Stiles was paying attention if he was quiet for too long. Sometimes, Derek would even chime in with his own comments.
“There’s something messed up about this teacher, but I mean, that might be some leftover Beacon Hills High School trauma.”
“You think?” Derek commented with a huff, clearly remembering the weird amount of evil teachers that made their way into Stiles’ classrooms. Derek had always hated them the most as they spent more time around the pack than he was able to. He had never admitted that out loud, but Stiles knew it was true.
“I want Joyce to punch him,” Stiles noted, cheering when Buffy and Willow came into view, chanting words that sounded like something Lydia would say. “Oh my god, did she just devamp the house? I wish I could do that with werewolves,” Stiles teased, holding his arms up in defense when Derek flicked his nose.
“You can, you idiot, it’s called mountain ash,” Derek retorted, reaching over Stiles to grab a few Cheetos. Stiles pretended not to notice that they were closer than they ever had been.
When the episode turned more serious than Stiles had expected, he curled into Derek’s side and shoved his cheek into his warm chest. It wasn’t that he was scared, but he didn’t think that Jenny was about to make it out of there alive due to supernatural circumstances and that hit a little too close to home. When Angel broke her neck, Stiles turned his face away as Derek’s hand settled against the back of his head, brushing through the short strands comfortingly.
There was sadness filling his stomach as the cute British librarian walked up the stairs and the music swelled. When he glanced up at Derek, there was a tear falling down his cheek. Even still, he whispered the words that left Angel’s lips, “Passion is the source of our finest moments; the joy of love, the clarity of hatred, and the ecstasy of grief.”
They stayed pressed together like that, neither of them making a move to turn away. Stiles listened to the steady beat of Derek’s heart and the way it jumped during more action filled moments. When the too long silence made him jittery, Stiles spoke again, knowing his words would tick Derek off enough to argue.
“You know, Xander has a point,” Stiles stated after Xander said exactly what he was thinking. Someone should have really murdered Angel before, but Stiles guessed there was something he was missing.
 “Are you kidding? Buffy is right and Giles is going to get himself killed if he doesn’t think about his act--!” Derek paused a few moments before sighing, “Wait, that is exactly what you would do.” Stiles grinned at him and nodded.
Stiles loved the easy way they bickered back and forth on the plot Derek seemed to understand down to the most minuscule detail. He loved the way Derek related to the characters, felt for their losses and their grievances. He knew, even after only one episode, why Derek had been so attached to the show. It was beyond a familial memory, that much Stiles was sure of. When Angel’s voice narrated again, Stiles gazed up from where his head had rested on Derek’s lap for the last few minutes.
Again, Derek whispered the words, “It hurts sometimes more than we can bear. If we could live without passion, maybe we'd know some kind of peace, but we would be hollow. Empty rooms, shuttered and dank.” Derek seemed to tear his eyes away from the show and they met Stiles’ with just as much passion as he was speaking about, and finished, “Without passion, we'd be truly dead."
Stiles thought his heart stopped at the intensity of Derek’s gaze and the softness of his voice and realized that Derek was bearing his soul to Stiles by showing him that bit of his past. He was letting Stiles in, hoping Stiles would take the invitation openly, and asking him to stay.
“Did you like it?” Derek asked hesitantly as if scared of the answer.
Stiles pursed his lips and pretended to think about his answer before deciding, “Can we watch it from the beginning?”

The Holy Quintet in Twisted Wonderland! (all 7 dorms - Part 1)
This is the third piece of TW x PMMM crossover! The girls have been sorted to their respective dorms and now we have them interacting with the other 6 dorms. This is also gonna be a long one separated to a few parts so buckled up!
Hope you guys enjoyed it! I appreciate the patience.
-
Akemi Homura & the other dorms (except Scarabia)
HEARTSLABYUL!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Seeing that there’s so many unpredictable danger in TW, Mami wanted the girls to improve their magic in case they’re ever in a pinch.
Since Sayaka hasn’t unlock the full potential of her magic, Homura figured that it’d be beneficial for them as a team if she lends a hand or give her a few advices (after countless time loops, Homura is aware on what Sayaka could do with her magic without the danger of turning into Oktavia).
The students of Heartslabyul at first bar her from entering their dorm and Homura was about to brush them off and just freezes time for being such a nuisance until one of them explain that they needed to announce her presence to Riddle and Trey first before they could enter. Then they brought her to the lounge.
They warned her of the Queen of Heart’s many, many rules and that their Dorm Leader would be crossed if she would break them and that had her wondering how the exuberant Sayaka survive here.
She noted in mild interest when the students eagerly inform them that Sayaka is doing well for herself in Heartslabyul and fondly calling her their cute knight after she helps out with their Unbirthday Parties and protect the hedgehogs and other small critters.
Riddle caught Homura conversing with the students in the lounge and took this opportunity to invite her to their Unbirthday Party that they’ll be having in a few hours. Curious about this fussy dorm, Homura accepts.
Homura, Sayaka, Ace and Deuce ran around handling the cute hedgehogs and pink flamingos. Ace wanted to leave the chores to Homura since she could round the animals up in a blink of an eye but Deuce stops him before Trey or Riddle could hear him. When asked about Homura’s magic, Sayaka retort not to bothered. She and the rest of the girls don’t even know the full details about it.
When the long table is laden with food and drinks and everyone’s having a good time, Sayaka and Homura sat at the furthest end of the table where it’s quieter. Normally guests are supposed to sit beside the Dorm Leader and Vice Dorm Leader, but ever since his Overblot episode, Riddle let them to talk amongst themselves when Homura insists it’s important.
As the two girls talk, the Heartslabyul gang couldn’t help but observe their interaction. Homura’s expression remain serious the moment she steps into the dorm and as the seconds grow longer, they saw Sayaka’s smile slowly turning into a scowl. Trey and Cater already jog to them when Sayaka raised her voice and Homura is frustrated.
“Why should I listen to you about my magic when you’re never honest about yours? How would you even know about what my magic can really do, hah?”
“You’re as foolish as ever, Miki Sayaka. If you don’t even know how to use your magic, how can you even call yourself a Magical Girl?”
“Whoa, whoa, everything alright here? C’mon, it’s a party! Everyone is supposed to have fun!”
“Thank you for inviting me to your Unbirthday Party, Rosehearts-san. I’ll be taking my leave now.” In a flash, Homura vanishes without so much as waiting for a ‘by your leave’.
After that exchange, Sayaka had to explain to everyone that despite how Homura would sometimes aid them in hunting and killing Witches, they’re not exactly good friends. Homura is as shady as they come and keep her information very close to her chest. Not to mention that her odd attachment to Madoka is a little troubling.
The Heartslabyul gang took her words with considerations but the boys wanted to judge Homura for themselves.
To Ace and Deuce, it’s kinda comical to see Kalim hovering around her, cracking jokes and trying to make her laugh but only receive a fond shake of her head instead. Other than that, she kept to herself and if she isn’t studying, she's eyeing their magical crystal with a dangerous gleam in her eyes. The duo subconsciously put away their pens whenever she’s around.
Trey found Homura to be polite and reserved when approached. She’s willing to help you out with any mundane things as long as you ask nicely. But sometimes, Trey feels that Homura has a skill in avoidance. No one really see her in the crowd of first year students heading to class but then there she is, the first one in her seat! Trey hopes that Kalim and Jamil can help her relax a little because something in Trey tells him that she’s a ticking time bomb.
Cater wants her for a selfie! His Magicam followers would never believe that NRC has a mysterious raven beauty as a student. When word spread of Homura’s ability to disappear in a blink of an eye, he takes it as a challenge to snap her pic. When he told her about this, Homura rolled her eyes. He can try.
Now, Riddle. He couldn’t help but frown whenever he sees Homura passing by in the hallways. Her bickering with Sayaka during the Unbirthday Party left quite an impression on this Dorm Leader (he has a soft spot for Sayaka after the whole overblot ordeal. Sure, it left him bruised and bloodied for days afterwards but she did saved his life. Plus, she also apologised for not realising her own strength).
Despite presenting herself properly, Riddle wonders if she’s a little like him. That she has something dark brewing inside her based on some traumatic events. He understands that Homura means well when she tried to advice Sayaka about her magic (after all, he did try to impart on his dorm mates the importance to maintain order by following the Queen of Hearts’ rules).
Maybe if ever they crossed path, he could share his experiences with Homura in hopes that she opens up a little. Telling her that her friends will gladly help her if she just asked them.
Dragging herself through many, many timelines not only hardened her as a person, but they also made her jaded. Nevertheless, Homura quietly promise to herself once Riddle left; to try and save not only Madoka from Walpurgisnacht, but also her friends from their fates. She continues to hope once more.
SAVANACLAW!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like above, Homura would only approach the Savanaclaw dorm if she has to talk to Kyouko. Only this time, she didn’t bother announcing herself. Just freezes time and walk right towards Kyouko’s room. Once time is unfrozen, the students will comment on an unfamiliar feminine scent that somehow walk past by them undetected!
Kyouko wasn’t surprise that Homura suddenly appear in her bedroom. Already well-used to her antics. Boredly, she asked what Homura wanted as she lied on her bed. Packet of snacks scattered around her.
Since Kyouko often spar with the Savanaclaw students, Homura request for a favour. She wants to observe her fights against them just to see how far their magical crystals can be push before overblotting.
Kyouko refuses predictably until Homura offered her help in classes. She’s even willing to help her cheat in a test if Kyouko want. In the end, Kyouko accepted Homura’s requests.
(Homura didn’t bother to persuade Kyouko to use her magic. It’s up to Kyouko to overcome her past in order to wield her illusions power again)
When Leona’s actually in the mood to spar a little, especially against Kyouko, Homura is at the bleachers with her arms crossed against her chest. Students from other dorms sometimes watch their trainings but never one of Kyouko’s girl friends before other than Sayaka.
(Sayaka has a habit of loudly cheering from the stands, jumping with glee whenever Kyouko kicked a burly student across the field. Kyouko would preen and smirks at every cheer. This lead the boys wondering if there’s something more going on between the two of them; the Heartslabyul Knight and their Savanaclaw Brawler)
Leone felt like he’s under a microscope during their spar when he noticed Homura staring at them. Kyouko made no secret of her request and Leona’s quirk an eyebrow. Well, she’s not Rook but Leona’s gut is telling him that as someone who’s skilled in hunting Witches, Beastmen would be a good practise for this girl.
But Leona wants to show off so that in the next Magishift Tournament, Homura knows just who she’ll be facing. This lion ain’t backing down!
Leona can be petty, too. After Kyouko’s explaination, he ordered Ruggie to use his Unique Magic on her. Forcing her to show her own magic for once.
Ruggie steal the opportunity during lunchtime. A harmless prank, really. He just wants her to trip and drop her food tray. However, he never expected to be frozen in time. Unlike Mami’s ribbon, Ruggie’s ‘Laugh With Me’ couldn’t hold her. So the moment her body suddenly acted on her own, Homura uses her shield to froze time and found a student in similar uniform to Kyouko mimicking the same moves as her. Disgruntled, she packed her food and left the cafeteria before releasing her magic.
Ruggie is left standing, dumbfounded that Homura could escape his magic! She’s trickier than he expected. When he reported back to Leona, it just fuelled him to really uncover what she’s hiding, though he knows that Kalim and Jamil won’t appreciate him meddling with one of their student.
Jack is put off with Homura’s aloofness and that says something! He sees her friendship with Kyouko as something that’s build on necessity with little trust. Always lurking around and her head in books as if she’s chasing after something.
He would curtly nod at her if they walk by but never do anything more than that.
For Homura, she couldn’t care less about Leona, Ruggie and Jack. As long as they don’t butt into her business, she sees no conflict between them. Plus, they kept Kyouko preoccupied.
OCTAVINELLE!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the second day as a student of NRC, Kalim explains about the other dorms to Homura as best as he could. Bless his heart, Jamil had to fill in the rest and more important characteristics of the dorms.
In the beginning, all she knows about Octavinelle are that the students are intelligent, most of them are mermen and the Dorm Leader is someone named Azul Ashengrotto and his Vice Dorm Leader, Jade Leech.
Before Kamil and Jamil left for their own classes, Jamil murmurs to Homura to watch herself when it comes to those two and someone named Floyd Leech.
One day, Madoka - who wanted to spend some time with Homura - suggest that they have lunch at a café called the Mostro Lounge. Homura did her best not to show her hesitation to Madoka when she realised that they needed to step through a mirror since the café is in the Octavinelle dorm.
It’s still a bit early before the lunch rush, so the girls were quickly seated and attended to by a few servers from the dorm.
Trouble begins after they ordered their food and Floyd stroll in with Jade in tow, ready for their shifts.
Not one to miss an opportunity to interact with these otherworldly girls, Floyd loudly introduces himself and Jade with a bloodthirsty grin. Homura already disliked his presence.
Seeing how unresponsive Homura is to his twin’s greeting and Madoka’s shy reply, Jade smoothly interjects. Playing the part of a perfect gentleman, he inquiries if the girls have ordered their food and drinks, have they gotten used to their dorms and etc. He’s not at all deter at Homura’s clipped answers or Madoka’s nervous stammers.
After all, Azul wanted to know what magic these girls bring to their world. If possible, the Dorm Leader wanted to strike a deal with them.
The atmosphere around the table is already tense and Homura wondered if it’s best to leave for the cafeteria instead when Azul enters the fray. Like Jade, he made sure to behave properly, offering a courteous smile as he introduces himself.
“I’m happy that the Mostro Lounge receive such beautiful patrons today! Truly I am lucky.”
“T-That’s nice of you to said that, Ashengrotto-san.”
“...”
“Please, the pleasure is all mine. If you or any of your friends have any trouble adjusting to this college, I’ll be more than happy to a lend a hand for a... right price.”
That set warning alarms off in Homura’s head. Immediately.
Thankfully their lunch went by peacefully, though Floyd continues to irk Homura of his pestering, but the decor and otherwise calm atmosphere made their meal pleasant.
It’s only when Homura caught rumours that those who made a deal with Azul must signed a contract for their wish to be fulfil but it always ended up kicking them in the asses.
Homura made the decision to stay away from him and the Leech Brothers at all cost and if Azul approaches her or god forbid, Madoka, she’ll made him regret it.
She’s not looking forward to deal with another Kyuubey. (besides, she might not be able to kill the Incubator but a bullet between Azul’s eyes should do the trick. She never kill anything other than a Witch before, but should Azul threatens Madoka then it’s a first time for everything).
Azul sees Homura as a tough nut to crack, so pulling information from her would be a waste of effort. Better focus on the other girls. He thought that he held his demeanour perfectly during their little lunch, so why is she glaring at him whenever he had the unfortunate chance thei path crossed?
Floyd finds Homura boring. She hardly react when he tries to get a rise out of her. Though the slap Homura gave on his hand when the eel boy wanted to touch Madoka’s ribbons was surprisingly strong. Like Cater, he made a little game catch her off guard, but by squeezing her. She’s so slippery though. It’s fun!
Jade doesn’t really have any problem with Homura. He’s curious about her; why does it feel like her wariness of them is something personal? Has she been taken advantaged before?
Jade has not forgotten how quick she attack the headmaster during the entrance ceremony. He’ll play it cautiously and see what he can use against the girl.
It’s not fair if Homura holds all the cards to herself.
POMEFIORE!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Homura actually stumble across Mami and Rook during their shooting practise in the archery field. They were supposed to meet up for research but she waited until they noticed her.
It was sweet how Rook treated Mami and it was surprising to Homura that she accepts every praise with a small smile, her cheeks red.
In a way, their interaction assured Homura that Mami wouldn’t be lonely in Pomefiore. Hopefully that means she’ll be able to emotionally grow while they’re stuck here in TW.
It was only when Rook packed up that he realise Homura has been watching them the entire time. No one ever stalked the hunter before. Coloured him impressed!
Rook offered Homura to joined their shooting sessions whenever she’s free. Her aim during the entrance ceremony was precise and quick just like Mami. It’d be nice if the three of them could get together sometimes.
Homura didn’t made any promises, but she informs him that she’ll keep his offer in mind.
Mami and Rook brought her to the study rooms in Pomefiore. There are a few students studying nearby and Homura noted how the boys would pull a chair out for her and Mami and offered their assistance if they need any books. Like a princess, Mami thanked them but require nothing for now.
“The students here are very... gracious.”
“You’ll get used to it, Akemi-san.”
Homura presented Mami her books and data that she could gathered and in return, Mami toss theories back and forth. The two were at it until Epel came over to asked Mami for an impromptu Alchemy tutoring. He backtracks when he spotted thick papers and books between the girls.
Homura agreed without a fuss to change their research for school work. She needs to go over her own Alchemy notes as well.
To Epel, Homura is intimidating. Not as severe as Vil, but there’s an ice cold wall she erected around herself. Even when she helped grammar checked his notes, she gives off an impression that she’s waiting to be dismissed.
Unfortunately for her, a Pomefiore student came by to announced that Vil and Rook has invited Mami and any of her company to tea. Before either Epel or Homura could run, Mami accepts on their behalf.
“Schoenheit-san is an amazing person, Akemi-san. He taught me a lot during out short stay here.”
“Other people would have a different opinion, Tomoe-san...”
“Al-Asim-san mentioned that he’s very strict towards the students in this dorm. And that he also hold himself in high regards.”
“The way I see it, he earns the right to do so. Would you like to understand him better, Akemi-san?”
“No point in refusing now.”
“Urgh, tea time with Vil. This is gonna be a drag.”
The setting that Mami brought them is picturesque. Apparently, Pomefiore has their own fairytale-like garden; well maintained and immaculate.
“So this must be your elusive... companion, gem. A pleasure. I am Vil  Schoenheit, Dorm Leader of Pomefiore.”
Throughout their tea time, Homura did her best not to squirm under Vil’s scrutinized eyes. He would promptly correct her when she reach out for the wrong silverware and not to slouch. Mentally, she sympathise Epel for having to endure Vil’s nagging.
(There’s no way Kyouko would survive 5 minutes in this dorm)
Although Homura did not carry herself in the same way as Mami does, Vil regard her as a flower that only blooms at night, so only a few could witness its beauty. He offers to make her look more beautiful the next time she visits Pomefiore.
Rook asked how she’s settling in Scarabia and how the students are treating her there. He’s genuinely surprise that if the topics aren’t about her personal life or magic, she can talk quite a lot. Homura told them about the refreshing mint teas that they introduced her, how despite energetic and loud Kalim can be, he understood when she needed some space and how patient and hard working Jamil is in attending not Kalim, but the entire dorm as well.
Mami let Homura talk away with a small knowing smile. It’s good that Homura is focusing on other things than Madoka for once.
Before she left, Homura humoured Vil’s request when he wanted to see her Magical Girl outfit. He ‘hmm’-ed and nodded to self, commenting how her heels and dress are designed for practicality rather than to show off; it’s a little plain though. Like Mami, he sketch her outfit in his drawing book for inspiration.
Homura felt like she should feel insulted over Vil commenting that her Magical Girl outfit is plain but in the end, couldn’t find it in herself to be bothered.
IGNIHYDE!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Among the students in NRC, Idia is the first one who uncovers Homura’s time magic.
Since he doesn’t attend classes physically and have eyes around campus through surveillance cameras, he caught Homura’s disappearing act more times than he can count. This boy is instantly curious on how she could even evade his cameras!
So he analyse the surveillance cameras and noticed that whenever she uses her magic, her Shield would crack open; showing spinning gears and purple sands gleam like stardust but in the next frame, the Shield is closed. Idia deduced that her Shield must be her Unique Magic. But how does it work? What’s the connection between the sands and gears?
Idia actually feels a little bad stalking Homura through his cameras, but his curiousity has been itching him ever since the girl directed her strange weapon at the headmaster. Isekai’ed weapons are the coolest!
His luck came in the form of Ortho. From his room, Idia watches as his little brother and the Magical Girl interacted in the courtyard. Ortho was carrying some snacks for their gaming session, bought from Sam’s shop and Homura happens to be done with her classes for the day.
Idia saw Ortho trips and Homura is suddenly holding him steady by his arm, the snacks are secured in her hold. That shouldn’t be possible when Homura is nowhere near Ortho. So Idia rewind and replay the footage but again, it explained nothing.
When Ortho return to Ignihyde, he didn’t waste any time to tell all about his new friend! How she swooped in and saved him like a hero. Homura was taken aback when she discovered that he’s a cyborg and Ortho explained that Idia was the one who built him. When Idia asked if she did anything strange, Ortho just commented that Homura keeps touching her ring. Could her ring be her magic crystal?
The next time Ortho and Homura meet up, he invited her to hang out with him and his older brother at their dorm. Idia could’ve die from a heart attack the moment he heard her voice outside of his door.
On a bad day, Idia could barely stand to be around people, but a pretty girl in his bedroom? Playing games with him and his brother? Dear Hades save him!
Meanwhile, Homura recalled what Ignihyde meant to represent. An advancement of magical technology. In a way, her time Shield is a magical technology, so is that why her magic reacted positively with Ortho and this dorm itself?
Despite the gloominess of Ignihyde and Idia’s skittish personality, Homura actually found herself enjoying the Shroud brothers’ company. Ortho is a sweetheart; patiently instructing her how to play their games and explain how most of their techs work.
When Idia wouldn’t stop squirming beside her, Homura calmly ask him to spit out what’s on his mind. She didn’t rebuked him when Idia asked how she’s been escaping from his cameras. That he didn’t mean anything bad, just curious.
Homura sees this as an opportunity to strike up an alliance. She told Idia that she’s willing to tell him about her magic, but it needs to keep between them and in return, she hopes that he could help her with her Shield.
Idia is overjoy to discover such an OP Unique Magic! To him, Homura’s magic is a cheat code that he sometimes daydream of having when classes are a drag! He’s like a kid in the candy store as Homura withdraw books, a comb and a flash bang from her shield (so it’s also a dimensional storage!), demonstrated by holding his and Ortho’s hands how her time magic works and lets him take a closer look at her Shield. The dorm leader is more than happy to help improved her Shield and see how far they can push the limit of her magic safely.
If you think Madoka and Malleus’ friendship is odd, Homura and Idia is equally so. Even if their alliance is purely professional, Homura always made time to hang out with Ortho and when Idia ventures outside, Homura would walk alongside him so he won’t be overwhelmed. Passing students would murmur when they see the two of them together.
To the Shroud brothers, Homura is a good friend, if a little aloof. Idia likens her to a stray cat; she welcomes to visit Ignihyde (oh gosh, a girl actually wants to hang out with him in his room!) and goes as she please. He enjoys debating on the difference of their magic and that she doesn’t judge his hobbies and games.
Ortho is just happy that his older brother has a friend! One that can match his online snarky and hammy persona with her sarcasm and wit when they livestream together. Plus, she would come over and ask Ortho he needs help whenever she’s free.
DIASOMNIA!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The second TW’s character to uncovers Homura’s time magic is Lilia. And that was completely accidental!
You see, words has gotten around NRC of Homura’s vanishing and appearing act and being a trickster who loves to appear out of nowhere and startle the other students, Lilia wanted to surprise Homura the most!
When the ancient Fae asked Madoka while they were in her room (she allows him to comb her hair and how can she refuse seeing it makes Lilia so happy) if she knows how her friend does it, Madoka shook her head and reply that none of them actually know the full extend of Homura’s magic. Just that she can summon and stored firearms off any sizes inside her Shield without any limit.
Lilia then asked Malleus, Silver and Sebek if their magic could discern what sort of magic Homura’s uses. Since Malleus’ magic is broader and more in tune with otherworldly aspects as a dark Fae, Malleus could only put into words that her magic is something that acts as a foundation of their dimension, in a sense. Metaphysical. Unfortunately, Homura has been using her magic sparingly so Malleus didn’t actually had enough time to decipher what it is.
Malleus’ words weight heavy in Lilia’s mind. In all his ancient years, he has never come across a human with such powerful magic! A magic like that would definitely come with a heavy price. After all, humans can never control powers that are beyond their realm of understanding.
(Ouch, hitting a little too close to home there, Lilia).
So one day, when Lilia caught Homura leaving the Ignihyde dorm (Idia sure love to brag about her whenever he and Lilia are playing online tournament matches), Lilia snuck up behind her. What he didn’t expect though, was Homura’s fast reflex. However, when she turn around to grab his hand before he could touch her, her Shield freezes time right at that exact moment. So Lilia witness with wide eyes how the world around them stood on a standstill and easily figured out her magic.
“Ho, ho, what a surprise! To think a young human possess the ability to bend time to her whim! I understand now.”
Well, Homura’s first introduction to Lilia Vanrouge went off a rocky start. Seeing how upset he made her, Lilia is all smile, promising that he won’t spread the truth about her magic. He also encourage her to trust her friends about it, since anything could happen after all.
When Homura puts away her shield, Lilia offer to make it up to her. Madoka has actually been waiting to spend some time with her. Why don’t they all have a midnight tea party at Diasomnia? Doesn’t she wants to see how Madoka has been faring in their dorm? With Madoka as the bait, he chuckles when Homura accepts his offer without hesitation.
It’s Lilia that floated near the staircase inside of Diasomnia, watching how Madoka happily invite Homura in. From how coldly she treated him earlier that day, she’s docile when Madoka grab her hand and gently pull her along, how soft and sweet her voice is when she answered Madoka’s questions.
The moon is full when they arrive at the rooftop. The table and tea things are laid out and their company for the evening were waiting for them. Silver is lightly dozing, his head resting on the table. Sebek is fussing around the table, pouring tea for Malleus first before the other cups. Malleus flash a small welcoming smile to Homura who nods in return.
Homura let Madoka be, heart at ease that she’s comfortable and happy with this group. Unnoticed by her, Lilia is observing Homura the same way. Well, she’s polite if reserved, but tend to smiles more around Madoka though she grimace when Madoka told her that they’ve been helping Madoka hone her magic better. It’s clear she wanted to interject but held herself back.
Later in the privacy of his bedroom, Lilia realised that Homura has the eyes of a soldier. Hardened and weary, but one that is still fighting. Now what foe could Homura be fighting against even after crossing over to this world?
There is a story hidden that only Homura is aware of and until the day arrive when she could finally be honest with not only herself, but also her friends, all Lilia could offer is his assurance that Diasomnia looks after their own. Madoka is no different.
Malleus wonders if he and Homura shares a lot in common. The two tend to brood and kept to themselves after all (though Malleus suspect that the later might be a personal preference for Homura). Madoka had nothing but good words about the raven haired girl so he figured there must be something else going on in the background.
He could only detect the basis of her magic when she vanishes near him. He wonders if her magic is as powerful as his and how good of a fighter she is. After their midnight party, the two often nod at one another if they passed by in campus. Malleus appreciate that she will sits beside him in class when Lilia and his group aren’t with him.
Silver doesn’t know a lot about Homura to actually hold an opinion about her, other than what Madoka told them. He’s aware that people can be biased when it comes to their dear friend. But since she and Malleus seems to be a lot more amiable than before, he hopes that Homura won’t try do anything against them.
Sebek treats Homura the same way how he treats the other human students. If they don’t have anything to do with his lord, then he doesn’t care about them. Though he will tolerate her presence when Madoka invites her into Diasomnia. He overheard Lilia mentioning that Homura reminds him of the soldiers that he fought alongside with all those many years ago and Sebek wondered what does that add into her mystery.
As for Homura? She’s the last person to judge the Diasomnia gang and if they truly care for Madoka then perhaps she can pour her energy and time to planning on how to return home.
She won’t admit it but Homura respect Lilia. When she’s feeling practically brave, she would quietly ask for advice on how to expand her magic and how to learn hand-to-hand combat.
Sebek is just too loud for her taste. Does that boy ever calm down? He can dismiss her all he likes, it good to know that Sebek has a 1 track mind when it comes to Malleus. That makes him predictable to Homura.
When Silver suddenly drop to sleep in front of her, Homura startles. Thinking that he’s ill or worse, she actually call for help. Only when the other students about his habit of falling unconscious at any given time or place did Homura let out a sigh of relieved. But just in case, she made sure that Silver is sleeping at a safe and open spot so the Diasomnia students could see before leaving.
Malleus exude the same type of yearning that Mami has, Homura figured that out after their midnight tea party. They yearn for bonds to ease their loneliness. No doubt that Madoka would definitely help this tall Fae come out from his shell little by little. As of now the two have a mutual respect of one another.

Wow, this took 2 days to write! Yeah, it’s a good idea to separate this part into each girls. Anyway, sorry for any grammar or spelling errors! Editing this took time.

Baby Driving Baby
Pairing: Dean Winchester x Reader
Requested: yes!🖤
Warnings: Swearing
Word Count: 1,168
Tumblr media
“Dean!” Sam yelled in annoyance, “I’m your brother, when are you going to let me drive the Impala?”
“Hm.. Let me see....Never. The last time I let you have the Baby, you had a what did you call it? iPod Dock?” Deans voice was laced with frustration, “No cool man.”
“That was one time!”
“One time, too many.”
“Boys! Can we please, not argue during lunch. Thanks.” You said interrupting both Winchester, before they could keep the argument going.
“Geez Sweetheart. Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed today or...”
“Why do you always assume I woke up crabby?”
Both men exchanged a knowing glance, before Dean started again, “Uh, well, because most of the time you?”
“Dean, stop,” Sam hissed.
“Oh?”
“Uh... Yeah, I mean, we’re kinda chained to you anyway..”
“Chained to me?” You asked in confusion.
“Dean!” Sam yelled, “Now is not the time!”
“Oh, so you feel like that too, Sam?”
Silence fell over the kitchen. The tension in the air was getting impossibly, thicker, than before.
You wouldn’t admit it, but you had feelings for Dean, and hearing your best friend, say that they felt, “Chained” to you hurt more than anything.
Getting up from the table, you furiously, made your escape towards your room. Once you got to your room, you locked your door after, you were inside. Something, you don’t normally do.
Hours passed by like minutes, when you heard a soft knock on the door.
“Y/N? I uh... I know you’re mad at Sam and Dean...But can you and I still talk and hangout?” A nervous voice sounded through the door.
Getting up from you previous spot on your bed, you paused your move. Opening the door you were met with a puppy face, from Jack.
“Of course, Jack!” Stepping aside, you allowed the tall man to enter into your room.
Resuming the movie, you and Jack watched your shared favorite movie. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
A week had gone by, and you still haven’t given in to talking to either Winchester. Although, they did try their hardest it still didn’t work.
“Hey, Y/N! Did you watch last nights Game of Thrones Episode? Cause I did....Without you....Remember that time you were pissed at me for watching Game of Thrones without you... Well what do ya say?”
You didn’t hesitate in continuing about with the task at hand.
Sighing in frustration, Sam left you alone.
Then it was Dean’s turn.
“What’re you guys watching?”
Jack responded excitedly, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them! Y/N, said it’s a prequel to the Harry Potter Movies! Right, Y/N?”
Both men turned to you in expectation of an answer. They were greeted with nothing but silence.
“Well, Harry Potter is for Nerds. Isn’t that right Y/N?”
Turning towards Dean, you just gave him a glare.
Sighing in defeat, he retreated from the movie room.
It wasn’t until later that night, that Sam cracked first. The clock read 11:30pm, and you were still awake. Picking up the book that was on your night stand, it was from one of your favorite authors. Stephen King. Reading, ‘Doctor Sleep’, there was a soft yet firm knock on the door, before it flew open, revealing Sam Winchester himself.
“I’m sorry for barging in, I saw your light on and knew you were awake.”
There was an awkward silence that overtook the conversation before Sam tried again.
“I miss my best friend. I miss you, Y/N. We aren’t chained to you. I was frustrated and annoyed and I ended up saying something I didn’t mean at all. I miss bickering with you, and talking about Game of Thrones. Dean tried, but it’s not the same. He doesn’t get the Khaleesi should be with Jon Snow.” Sam let out a frustrated groan, “I mean he... He’s trying, but he doesn’t get as much as you do...” He sighed.
Before you let him finish you, threw yourself at Sam, giving him a bone crushing hug.
“I’m sorry too. I really missed you too Sam.”
“It’s good to hear your voice again, Y/N/N.”
“I’m going to go to bed. I’ll see you in the morning!”
“Good night, Sam.”
“Good night, Y/N/N.”
Once he was gone, you picked up where you left off, in your ‘Doctor Sleep,’ book. Before you could fully, fall asleep, your bedroom door creaked open.
“Sweetheart? You still awake?”
Dean’s husky deep voice sounded in your bedroom. Making his way over to you, he took the bookmark from your hand, placed it in your book, and turned off the light.
Before he could get far, your tiny hand in comparison to his, wrapped about his fingers catching him before he left.
“Stay?”
“Always, Sweetheart.”
He made his way to the opposite side of your bed, snuggling into the blankets, before laying on his side, to face you. Neither one of you wanting, to be the first to break the silence, but knowing it had to be done. Dean was the first to speak.
“Sweetheart, I’m, Uhm.....”
“I know. Me too.”
He slightly nodded, if you would’ve blinked, you would’ve missed the motion.
Comfortable silence, fell upon you.
“Y/N/N?”
A tired hum was the response he got.
“I...uhm.... I like you...” He voice was breathy, almost as if he had ran a marathon prior to his midnight confession, “It’s...a.... It’s okay if you don’t-”
Cutting him off you placed a chaste kiss on his lips. The kiss, was the only confirmation he needed of your mutually shared feelings.
“Good night, Sweetheart.”
“Good night, Dean.”
He pulled you towards him, so that he would be able to cuddle you from behind. His face nuzzling the place between your shoulder and neck. It was as if, he was the missing piece to your puzzle. His morning stubble, lightly brushing against your neck, in a comfortable way.
The next night, Dean had something planned for the both of you. Jumping in the Impala, at a little after five. Dean was adamant that it was a surprise, not telling you where you were going.
On the way there, he pulled Baby over on the side of a desert road, and got out.
“Dean? What’re you doing?”
“I’m going to teach you how to drive Baby!”
“Is this the surprise?”
“No, sweetheart.”
It took ten minutes for him to convince you to drive Baby.
“Okay, so left is the break, right is the gas petal, here is the gear stick....”
Dean let you drive all the way to the surprise location. It was a secluded area, atop a hill. When you both reached the top, there was a picnic basket filled with food, and a blanket spread out for you both to sit on. By the time you looked at your surroundings, it was time for the sun to set.
He had planned a picnic to watch the sun set with you. For someone who claims, to despise ‘Chick Flick Moments,’ the man sure knows how to make them. Before it was time to leave, you tried to take a couple pictures of him off guard (See pic above), but they didn’t turn out in your favor.

Ugly Floral Couch (Stanley Barber x Reader)
Tumblr media
A/N: I am on my fifth time binging IANOWT, I love the show so much and I love Stanley Barber more then anything else in the world. I AM APART OF THE LGBT+ COMMUNITY!! I, IN NO WAY, AM TRYING TO HURT SOMEONE WITH A FEW OF THE WORDS IN THIS STORY!!! Also, another side note, I don’t know when this show is supposed to take place, so I’m just going to do some modern things as well. I hope no one minds :))
Plot: Stanley drives you home from school one day and invites you in, but you both don’t realize that his dad is home. {Takes place after the events of season one!!}
Warnings: SPOILERS (character backstory/persoanlities/WHAT HAPPENS IN THE LAST EPISODE), abuse, slurs (derogatory towards LGBT+) gets a lil steamy (making out + a bit of grabbing), weed smoking + swearing
——————————————————————————
You stuffed your notebook into your backpack when the bell ring, running towards the door when you heard someone call your name. You turned away and saw Stanley Barber, your neighbor, running after you. You sighed, stopping and waiting for him. He had been one of your closest friends in elementary school, but ever since middle school, you had both drifted apart and didn’t speak as often as you once had; however, you would never purposely ignore the loud, nerdy boy with a mess of curly hair. Stan’s heart was so big, and you weren’t going to hate him for it like everyone else.
“M’lady, your chariot awaits,” he bowed when he got to your side. You rolled your eyes, walking a little ways down the hall to get to your locker. “How’ve you been? I never see you when we leave, and I know you always try to leave as soon as possible, but maybe you could start waiting for me?” You looked over at him from the side of your door and he had the brightest smile on his face.
“I’ll try, but I usually have to leave quick cause of work,” you replied quietly. “But I wouldn’t mind a ride in that beat up, piece of shit, yellow car.” He rolled his eyes, grabbing your hand once you shut your locker with a loud slam. “Plus, we need a good jam sesh.” Stan looked back at you and nodded.
“We haven’t had one in a while,” he said. “Maybe we can include a smoke sesh as well, darling.” You laughed at him, seeing his cheeks turn pink as he heard it. When you got to his car, you threw your backpack into the back and curled up in the passenger’s seat, tucking one of your legs under the other as you leaned towards the center console. “What time do you need to be at work?” Stan put three key in the ignition, turning it and you felt the car rumble underneath you.
“Lucky for you, I’m off today,” you said with a bright smile. His cheeks tinted pink again as he backed out of the parking spot, speeding down the street to your guys’ neighborhood. “Where’s the weed, Barber?” He nodded towards the center console and cleared his throat.
“It’s in the silver case, where it’s always been.” He stopped at the stop sign, watching as Sydney Novak ran down the street. He rolled down the window, screaming something out at her as you fiddled with the button to open the case. He sighed, rolling his eyes and continuing down the street. You looked at the steering wheel, seeing his knuckles turn white. You reached back into the center console, now with joint in hand, and grabbed the lighter that sat in there. You lit the joint, taking a puff before holding it in front of Stanley’s face. He winked at you, taking one for himself before sighing contendly.
“What’s up with her,” you asked quietly as he shrugged. “I mean, I know everyone is scared of her, especially after homecoming, but she doesn’t have to be a bitch.” He rolled his eyes, pulling the car to the side of the road and turning off the engine. You noticed you were in front of his house.
“No matter what I do for her, she finds someway to get pissed at me,” he said sadly. “I can’t believe I ever considered dating her.” You furrowed your eyebrows at him as you both got out of the car. You grabbed your backpack and followed him down his driveway.
“You know she’s a dyke, right,” you asked as he gave you a dirty look. “Okay, guess we’re still defending her.” You took another hit from the joint before Stanley took it and put it out in the front yard but not before he took one last hit.
“You don’t call people ‘dyke’, (Y/N), no matter how much they hurt you. That’s how Brad fucking died.” He pushed open his front door and let you go inside first. “Head down to my room, I’ll be there in a minute.” He closed the door, looking up and noticing his dad sitting on the couch upstairs. You stopped dead in your tracks, backing up a bit as he looked at you both.
“Hi, Mr. Barber,” you said softly, looking at Stanley, who tensed up. Stanley’s dad nodded at you, while Stanley lead you to his room but didn’t come down the steps with you. You sat down on his couch, noticing the embroidered flowers coming undone from years and years of wear. You sighed, tucking your legs into your chest and grabbing the book you had in your backpack. You could hear them fighting a little, not yelling per say, just bickering about something. You focused on your book, not wanting to hear them any longer. Suddenly, the door that lead into the basement slammed shut and Stanley bounded down the steps, sniffling. You looked up at him and gasped, noticing his left eye was puffy and starting to swell.
“What do you wanna listen to, darling,” he asked quietly, walking over to his collection of vinyls. You shrugged, going up behind him and leaning your head on his shoulder. He moved his arm up, letting you cuddle into his side. You knew that Stanley had liked to he comforted like this, with good physical attention. “How about some SWMRS?” You nodded against his shoulder, feeling his right arm reach for the vinyl. You detached yourself from him, going to sit down on the couch. You tucked your feet underneath you, feeling your shoe get caught on one of the undone flowers. You sighed, pulling your sneakers off, waiting for Stan to come sit next to you. When he did, you snuggled into his side, closing your eyes and feeling him sigh. After a few songs, you looked back up at his face, seeing his eye was starting to turn black and blue.
“Fuck, Stan,” you said, sitting up to get a better look at it. He shrugged, not wanting to draw too much attention to it. “Do you have any ice down here?” He nodded, pointing over the small mini fridge he has behind a table. You got up, hearing him whine softly from the loss of contact and grabbed a rag, filling it with a few pieces of ice before folding it up. You went up to him, instructing him to close his eye before you softly placed the rag on it. He looked at you with his open eye, noticing tears starting to well up in your eyes. He sighed, catching your attention.
“(Y/N) don’t cry,” Stanley said, taking your hand away from his eye. “It’s okay, I’ll be okay.” You sniffled, putting the ice down onto the couch next to him. “Come here.” He wrapped his arms around your waist, pulling you to him. You hugged him tight, crying softly into his shoulder. You sniffled again, trying to pull yourself together before you pushed away to look into his eyes.
“You don’t deserve to get treated like this,” you whispered softly, rubbing your thumb over the outskirts of the bruise. “You’re just so loving and...so lovable.” He shrugged, hugging your tighter.
“It happens to the best of us,” Stanley said. You shook your head. You looked back at his eye, going up close to look at the damage a bit better. You feel your heart facing in your chest and you notice him start to tense up, so you back away. You stood up, walking over to his vinyl collection silently, still feeling your heart race in your chest. You hear the creek of the couch as he stood up, and then feel his arms wrap around your shoulders. “Why’d you get up.” He whispered softly in your ear, sending chills down your body. You brushed your hand over your head, shrugging as you picked a vinyl off of the shelf to switch with SWMRS one: Bloodwitch. Stanley tucked his head into your neck, and when you felt him smile, you flinched a bit. You and Stan were both very touchy people, showing that you care through physical touch, but he had never done that before. You pried yourself away from him, clearing your throat before switching the records. Stanley sighed, following you. When the first chord of the song started to play, you started to dance around and Stanley gave in and joined you. You guys jumped around and screamed the lyrics, not caring what his dad was going to say anymore. After the first side of the album, Stanley flipped it over and just stared at you as you continued to dance.
“‘Fill my soul with light, my heart with fire,’” you sang as you spun in circles. You lost balance, and Stanley ran up behind you and caught you, turning you in his arms so your chest was pressed against his. You started laughing, burying your face into his chest as you felt his arms wrap around you protectively. You pulled away, still getting over your giggle fit as you looked him in the eyes. The single light above you both made them sparkle, drawing you in. You stood on your tiptoes and held his face in your hands, bringing it down to meet your lips. Suddenly, you realized you were kissing your childhood best friend and pushed yourself away. You stammered, profusely apologizing as you walked over to grab your things.
“Stanley, I’m so sorry,” you said, rubbing your hand over your face. “I shouldn’t have done that. I’m sorry if I stepped over any boundaries and, oh my god, I really hope I didn’t ruin anything between us because I’d still love to be your friend and” He cut you off by slamming his lips against yours again. He pulled away, running his hand down your back with a small smile in his face.
“I’ve been waiting for ten fucking years to kiss me,” he said quietly, rubbing circles into your lower back. “Don’t tell me you didn’t mean it.” He looked down at his feet, looking back up at you with sadness in his eyes but still trying to keep the smile there.
“Of course I meant it, I-I just didn’t wanna overstep,” you said softly back. “Y-you liked it?” Stanley nodded and leant back in. You closed your eyes, feeling his lips connect to yours. You wrapped your arms around his neck, fiddling with the small curls at the nape of his neck. He pulled your hips closer to his, muttering a groan at the feeling of you so close to him. Stanley started walking forwards, which made you stumble backwards and onto the couch. He pulled away, sitting down before pulling you down onto his lap and attaching your lips together again. You moaned against him, feeling him hike you up further on to his lap by your thighs. Stan’s hands moved up to your ass and he squeezed it, hard, causing a gasp to leave your mouth, and his tongue made its way into it. After a few minutes of this, you pulled away, gasping for breath. He moved his arms back to your waist and pulled you impossibly closer to him, sticking his head into your neck and leaving little kisses. You ran your fingers through his hair, leaving soft kisses in the curls.
“Does this mean you’re my girl,” Stanley said, pulling his head up to look into your eyes. You blushed, seeing him smile at the innocent reaction. “I would really, really, really love it if you were my girl.”
“And I would really, really, really love to be your girl,” you said back, climbing off of his lap and walking back over to the record player. You saw your favorite album, Three Imaginary Boys by The Cure, sitting on the shelf and you gasped. “I’ve been looking for this for ages! Where’d you find it?” He rolled his eyes, getting up to stand behind you with his hands loosley on your waist.
“I found it the thrift shop on Reed,” he said with a chuckle. “I was actually going to give it to you for your birthday, but I ended up keeping it because it reminded me of you and we hadn’t been talking so...” Stanley wrapped his arms around your waist. “But now that you’re my girl, you can listen to it whenever you want. So, no harm, no foul.” You laughed, turning around in his arms to kiss him quickly on the nose.
“Well whenever I’m here this is all we’ll be listening to.” He shrugged, a small smirk coming onto his face.
“At least it’s with you.”

Arranged Marriage.

Chapter Eighteen.
Word Count: 2868
Warning: Mention of miscarriage.
~ A month later ~
I was getting ready for bed when the door bell was rung. I reached over for my phone to check the time, it was two in the morning. Who the hell was knocking on my door at this time?
The ringing kept going on, not with urgency but nonetheless, I was scared. The one night Yuta had to fucking go out, really. With caution I made my way down to the door, holding a bat just in case.
Whoever it was stopped ringing the doorbell and started knocking with their fist, “(Y/N)! Open the door, it’s Jaehyun.”
Now knowing who it was scared me more. What the hell was he doing here? I looked through the peephole and saw that he wasn’t alone. He was holding up Yuta who seemed to be out of it and Taeyong standing close by.
Once I opened the door, the smell of a bar invaded my nose and made my face scrunch up, “Jeez you guys fucking reek.” I moved aside so Jaehyun could walk in with a very drunk, basically passed out Yuta hanging off his side.
“That’s all him. We’re going to take him up to his room.” Taeyong answered while Jaehyun was already going up the stairs, I just shrugged and followed behind them leaving the bat near the door.
I watched from the door as they set Yuta down on his bed and turned him to the side, in case he had to vomit later on. “Why did he drink so much?” I asked.
No one answered. Taeyong avoided my stare and Jaehyun looked right at me and smirked.
“Please try to take care of him (Y/N), don’t let him accidentally choke on his own vomit or something.” Taeyong walked over to me and placed his hand on my shoulder, “Don’t fight with him too much. It’s not good for either of you.” He smiled sincerely.
I smiled back the best that I could, “That’s mission impossible but I’ll try very hard.” He chuckled and gave me a hug, I hugged back.
After the constant and never ending arguments between Yuta and me, Taeyong came to comfort me one day. Something about him being there for me gave me the understanding that he knew just how much I didn’t want this.
He became a friend after coming to me whenever Yuta would walk out. It was a slow process but here we were. I wouldn’t trust him to the extent like I do others but he was still good company to have around the house.
“We’ll pass by tomorrow to see how he’s doing.” Jaehyun rolled his eyes at us and shimmed past us at the door.
They both started walking down the hall and I walked into the room, taking a seat next to Yuta’s knocked out body. I watched and looked at him for what seemed like a long time.
“Oh Yuta, why did you drink so much now? What goes through that head of yours?” I started brushing my fingers through his hair, just letting a moment pass. This was probably the only time I would actually be able to talk to him.
He was knocked the fuck out but still, there’s words that I need to say, even if he can’t hear them. “You have no idea how much this hurts me still, to be able to call you my husband and actually fucking hate it with my whole being.”
“This was supposed to the future we wanted with our son. Deep down, I know we would have had a little boy.” I paused and took a deep breath to stop the tears that wanted to come up at the mention of the child we didn’t have.
“He would have gotten your hot tempered personality and hair. The rest would have been all me.” I laughed imagining how that would have been like.
“Could you imagine, having a little us running around these halls? That would have been amazing, I would have loved that little bean more than anything in this world.”
I pushed the hair away from his face, “You’ll never understand the pain I felt when I walked into your room and you didn’t even know I was in that accident with you. Or what I felt when they told me I was a month pregnant and had miscarried.”
“This is the real reason why I couldn’t and can’t accept our marriage, because it’s a constant reminder of what I lost.”
The all too familiar warmth slid down my cheeks, “To know that you lost the memories of us, of me, broke my heart Yuta. I just wanted you to love me again, like I loved you then. We should have had all of this but for real.”
A weep fell past my lips, making me aware that I was heavily crying. There was still so much emotions that I carried in the depths of my soul, I’m sure that even in five years from now, I’d still cry.
I sat in his room, petting his head for another five minutes in silence when I decided to go down to the kitchen for a bottle of water and into my room for painkillers, knowing he wouldn’t have any because he never does.
When I went back to his room with the things in hand, he was still laying the way I left him. I placed the remedy for his headache on his nightstand and looked at him, he still had his shoes on. Knowing he wouldn’t even know this happened, I went over to remove them.
He should at least be comfortable in the morning, I told myself as I untied his shoes and placed them down. In the midst of me doing so, he started shuffling around, scaring me.
“Hmm?” He groaned, moving to curl himself into a ball and cover his head with a pillow. Watching him do so made me giggle, I covered him with his blanket and took the pillow away from his face.
“The trash is right there if you need it, bone head. Sleep tight.” I whispered to him knowing he couldn’t hear me. I know I shouldn’t have but it was the only opportunity I saw to be able to do it one last time on my terms.
I pushed his hair out of his face and leaned over to place a chaste kiss on his lips. This time, it felt different than all the other times. It felt like before, it felt like when there was love.
But there couldn’t be, not again. Too much has happened for that, to start from zero isn’t something I wanted.
The next morning, I was in the kitchen making breakfast when I heard groaning come from the hallway. I knew it was Yuta but still, when he walked in it still surprised me. We looked at each other for five long seconds and then he looked away. He didn’t say anything and walked over to the fridge.
“Thank you for last night.”
I froze and looked at him wide eyed, “What do you mean?”
He looked at me and cocked a brow, “For the water and pills? I figured it would have been you.” He stared at me with intense eyes, trying to read me.
“Oh. Oh yeah! Um yeah, Ty and Jaehyun dropped you off last night. You reeked of liquor.” I answered him with uneven breathes for a second. He nodded and took a seat at the opposite side of the island from me.
Turning to continue with my breakfast, I felt his eyes on my back. I would so much rather be fighting than to have him stare at me like this, “What?” I asked turning around to meet his gaze.
“What?” He repeated like he didn’t hear me just say that to him.
“You’re burning a hole into my back Nakamoto. Stare any harder and I was going to burst into flames.” I joked turning around again, this time I didn’t feel the burning gaze.
He chuckled, “Sorry, I was just got lost in thought.” He answered but said nothing more after that. It was oddly quiet, way too quiet. No one was saying anything and the air didn’t feel as heavy as it always did.
For the first time in two months since we got married, we were in the same room and not arguing, bickering or throwing hurtful words at each other, we were just quiet. If a pin was dropped, we would hear when it hit the floor.
Since I’m assuming he was going to stay in the kitchen with me, I grabbed two plates to serve breakfast. He watched me move around some more and then place the plate of food in front of him. I took the seat opposite of him and said nothing.
Yuta gave me a small smile with a nod and started to eat. When he looked down at the food, I smiled back and began eating.
This is what we should have been like if we had gotten married for real.
We finished eating in silence and he offered to wash the dishes, I wasn’t one to say no so I let him be and left to be in the living room. I sat on the couch and turned the tv on, decided to watch a show. No more than fifteen minutes later, Yuta walked in.
He stood at the end of the couch and looked at me, “May I join you?” He asked, scratching the back of his neck. I narrowed my eyes at him, “If you don’t argue or fight with me, sure. If you plan on doing that, leave now because I want to enjoy my morning.” I warned him.
Smiling, he nodded, “No fights, I promise.” He took a seat on the other end of the couch and sat through the first episode without saying a word. A laugh or two left him when a joke was made but aside from that he didn’t do much.
It felt weird sitting here and being normal with each other, like we haven’t spent literally the last sixty days fighting and arguing with each other back and forth. The sudden change in his attitude was unexplainable.
“So you had breakfast and sat through a show for two hours and no one argued?” Lucas asked while I laid in his bed, sounding just as shocked.
“Exactly, it was so weird. It felt,” I paused looking for the right word, “Normal I want say?” Explaining what had happened between us was harder than I thought because I had no words to really describe it, at least not accurately.
Lucas laid down next to me and moved me up so I could cuddle into his side, “Well I’m glad there was finally some kind of change between you two. I know how exhausting it was for you. I just want you to start feeling better.”
I smiled up at him and give his cheek a kiss, “Thank you.”
In the last month, Lucas and I have really been thriving in the small relationship that we created with each other, things weren’t official. And as much as I would like them to be, they couldn’t. The ring on my finger was a reminder of that.
But nonetheless, it didn’t stop us from building off each other. Lucas was really the light I needed in my life and I am forever grateful for that. He meant more to me than I could understand. His eyes shone every time he looked at me and held me in his arms.
“Just be careful, okay? I don’t want to see you hurt by him again.” He pet my hair and placed a kiss on my forehead, my favorite.
We stopped talking about such dull things and moved on to Ten and Johnny. My baby boy finally got his tall man, I am truly so happy for him. Even though the guys gave him good advice on how to really make sure Johnny liked him, he took my advice instead.
Their first hang out was at an art museum, seeing as they both liked art and it wanting to be Ten’s profession. Things got a little jumbled there because Ten thought he had asked Johnny to just hang out meanwhile Johnny the whole time thought it was a date.
They had a big laugh about it and decided that it was their first date despite one of them thinking it wasn’t. When the second one came around, they were both aware that it was indeed a date. From what Ten has told us, Johnny is super caring and kind hearted.
Johnny was a breath of fresh air for Ten and that’s all I wanted for him. All of us have hung out a few times here and there and Johnny really just makes things better. Lucas and him, have us cracking up like crazy all the time, till it hurt to breath.
For once everything felt great, like things were normal. Yuta and I stopped arguing since the day that Taeyong and Jaehyun brought him home drunk, a week ago. I guess the small things I did for him really made him open his eyes.
We spent time in the living together again, watching movies or shows, at a distance of course. He always stared at me longer than I liked when I laughed. We started spending time in the library reading books like before.
Sometimes for dinner, he’d cook for us which was always really nice. Some nights he’d make my favorites from when we were kids and it made me warm that he still remembered those small details from more than eight years ago.
Conversations weren’t more than ‘How are you?’ or ‘How was your day?’ some days. But other days, we’d sit and talk about the past, the times when we were kids and all the stupid things we did that got us in trouble.
I was always cautious when that would come up though. Sometimes I’d talk about it for long period of time during one sitting but others when it was too much for me, I’d cut it short and just leave it where it was. More often than not, Yuta let us move on without questioning it.
Lucas felt a little weary sometimes about the ‘friendship’ Yuta and I were starting to have. Not because he was jealous or anything but because it seemed so sudden and peculiar how the little things I did for him that one night, changed his whole demeanor.
He also felt apprehensive that Yuta all of a sudden wanted to talk about the past or would bring it up often on his own without warning. He got a weird feeling about it but tried to push it away after I reassured him endlessly that it was nothing.
Things were starting to feel like old times again, the times before all of this happened. The times when were together. It was hard to brush that feeling off because it felt like there was reason to doubt it.
Frequently, I started seeing Yuta clean out his room, looking through things like there was something he was looking for. One day when I came home, he had like three boxes stacked in his doorway labeled, ‘Old Junk.’
But it wasn’t for the trash though, he told me he had asked his mom for them because there was something he was looking for. Something he lost a long time ago but doesn’t really remember where he placed it.
It was the way he said it and the way that he looked at me that told me it was urgent, that he needed to find it soon before he lost his mind. Which seemed was borderline happening soon.
The sudden change in our behavior really hit his friends hard, they almost didn’t believe it when I joined them one day in the living room to play video games. It wasn’t really my scene, video games but I was bored in my room and the boys were busy.
They stared wide eye as Yuta and I played a round together laughing like it was the most natural thing in the world. Taeyong couldn’t believe his eyes, his mouth hung open for almost five minutes straight. Sicheng was in disbelief, shock written crystal clear on his face. And Jaehyun, his reaction was weird.
He had a knowing smirk on his face almost, like he saw something more between us than what there was. I brushed it off and paid no mind to it because surely I was mistaken. But still, he looked at us with such wonder it was a little uncomfortable.
I should have thought there was something wrong about that. I should have known that nothing was normal with Jaehyun or his reaction. I should have known I told myself over and over again.
I should have known but I didn’t. And that cost me my safety, sanity, peace of mind and two of the most important relationships in my life. It cost me everything in my life.
Past and present.

~~~
Next week’s chapter will be a heavy chapter so please do keep that in mind. Again, like the other chapter, I will try to take the part out and put in place the AO3 link.
If anyone wants me to just leave the full chapter here, let me know and depending on the amount of people that would like it that way, I’ll make the arrangements I feel appropriate.
Thank you and enjoy!
Feed back is always welcome.
The Tale of Two Aussies...and a Ride Along...and a Love Triangle
Pairing(s) - Shane Thorne x Reader, Brendan Vink x Reader
Warnings/Promises - Cussing and sexual jokes cause I’m evil
Category - Fluff, lots of comedy, and the TINIEST bits of angst, a whole rollercoaster
Summary - You’re on a Ride Along episode with Vink and Thorne, though something seems off with the two Australians. When you get to the hotel that night in Orlando, truths get revealed.
Word-Count - I don’t know I changed a lot, I just know it’s over 1,400
Tumblr media
“One of the people who can actually reach the pedals can actually drive this thing,” I said, putting my bags in the trunk. “Oh don’t be sad because you’re short.” Brendan said, in a teasing voice. “Shut up you 6′5″ idiot.”
“Can you guys not argue for once?” Shane asked, before climbing into the drivers seat. I looked at the camera and rolled my eyes before opening the door to the passengers seat, “Vink stop looking at yourself in the window and get in the car.” “Y/N leave me alone!”
I was about to argue back when Shane yelled at us to get in the car.
And once we did, we started our drive to the hotel. “I still can’t believe you guys didn’t tell me about your Raw debut.” I said, sounding offended. “Well we’re evil,” Shane said, looking ahead at the road before looking at me, “Don’t act like you didn’t expect it.”
“Yeah yeah whatever.” I said, looking out the window. “Look at us now, we’ve all now had our Raw debuts, before I know it you guys will be travelling with me every week on Raw.” I smiled at the boys.
“Yeah. Can’t..wait.” “Imagine.” They smiled, but their faces drooped. I ignored it, they were probably tired. It was a few moments of awkward silence before Brendan brought up a topic, “Remember Y/N’s first ever entrance in the WWE?” I looked back at him, “We’re not gonna talk about this, BRENDAN!”
My first entrance was terrifying. Gear was a black set with horrific star stickers, which by the way, came off during matches, theme song that you would find on a Nick Jr show, boring motions during said entrance. And of course, Vink had to bring it up on Ride Along.
“You know what Vink that’s why you don’t even get an entrance you just start in the ring.”
I looked down at my phone, proud that I had won the argument. When I felt something hit the back of my head and land in my lap. I looked back at Brendan, “You’re so,” I threw the water bottle back in his face, “immature!” He quickly returned it before I threw my phone in the cup holder, unbuckled my seat belt and looking back at the man.
“That’s it!”
Shane tore his eyes away from the road to see me, climbing to the backseat, followed by me and Brendan play fighting and laughing, which led to roughhousing in the backseat. “Y/N get back in your bloody seat!” Shane yelled before I smacked Brendan upside the head and tried to climb back into my seat.
Keyword TRIED.
You might’ve guessed that I fell. You would be wrong.
Cause Brendan kicked me right in the, let’s call it, my buttocks.
“Oh shit!” I yelled while flying forward, hitting the floor. I sat back up, “Vink I should enzugiri your fat head off your body right now!”
“Do it then short stack!”
“Short stack?!”
I went to climb back there again when the car slowly came to a stop for a red light and Shane turned towards me, grabbing my shoulders, “Y/N, honey, chill.” I looked at him and giggled, “You’re adorable.” Shane smiled before turning back to the road. Brendan made a gagging motion to the camera. “Shut up, Vink.” Shane and I said in unison. “I didn’t even say anything!”
“You didn’t have to, ugly.” I shot back, still peeved at him.
Time skip
Long story short, Shane got us lost, so we were stuck in the car LONGER. So long that we started to embrace our “Crackhead Energy”. “Sometimes I just wish I was a duck.” I said.
“Get the fuck out my car, Y/N.” Shane said.
“Man for real?” I said, opening the car and leaning out.
“What the hell dumbass get back in,” Brendan yelled, while they both laughed. I looked at the camera, “Don’t try this at home kids, or obviously you’ll be told to get back in.” “That’s what she said.” Shane said. “That’s what he said.” I added on.
“Guys this is a PG show.” “Well we don’t have PG mouths.” I said, “I would like to test that.” Vink said. “Wow you hypocrite.”
Shane gave Brendan a look, I don’t know what kind of look it was, be sure was angry.
“Can we just get to the hotel?” “Well, we’re already here.” We pulled into the parking lot and walked towards the trunk, little did I know, my backpack was open, and when the trunk opened, my laptop fell out onto the ground.
The men laughed at me while I looked at the camera, “This better get 1 thousand more subscriptions on the network.”
“Why?” Shane asked, keeping his distance, “Because they’re about to pay for my shit!!”
They exploded into a fit of laughter while I angrily marched into the hotel, flipping them off without looking, “Y’all carry the damn bags!”
The camera crew said their goodnights as we went into the lobby to check in, “I’m sorry but it looks like we only have a double.” We all looked confused, “A double? We booked a double and one single.” I said, trying to explain the secretary.
“I’m sorry, but with all the people waiting to leave for the airport, you know, to go home, lot’s of flights got delay-” “You know what? It’s okay, we’ll figure it out.” I said, trying to keep my cool. I snatched the key card, my once good mood now turned sour. Shane put his arm around my shoulder, “It’s alright Y/N, we’ll figure it out.” I gave him a slight smile and leaned closer to him.
But while in the elevator, Brendan looked angry. I just ignored it, thinking maybe it was about the room, so I just shrugged it off, went to the room and claimed the bathroom first.
It was a great to get ready for bed. Washing makeup off my face, brushing my teeth, finally taking off that stupid bra, and the best of it all pajamas.Black Adidas spandex and a oversized yellow hoodie. Very cliche but very comfortable.
I was about to turn the knob to leave when I heard the pair talking outside. “You don’t love her like I do, Vink!” “You’re right because it’s clear I love her more.”
“On SMUG you literally make it out that you hate her, and in real life too!” “Oh please, she knows I’m messing around. You on the other hand, you’re always controlling her, acting like you’re the boss of her!”
“Well let’s see who Y/N chooses then huh?”
Was I hearing correctly? No, I can’t be. I’m probably just tired.
I walked out the bathroom, clothes and toiletries in hand, putting them in my bag. “You guys can take the beds, I’m just gonna sleep on the floor.” “Nonsense, we can share a bed.” Brendan said, “You’re 6′5″, you need the room.” “You can share with me then.” “Shane you snore too loud.”
They were trying to understand my excuses, because normally, it wouldn’t be that big of a deal, but now suddenly I’m distant. “I’ll be right back.” I said, walking back into the bathroom.
I texted one of the producers, which was also my friend Jamie.
Can I stay with you tonight?
Jamie - I thought you were staying with those two giants?
I’ll explain later, just, please?
Jamie - Yeah, room 239
I sighed in relief, walked out and saw them sitting on the bed, looking angry, and sad, and guilty? I don’t know how to describe it. “Is everything okay guys?”
Brendan shook his head before Shane spoke up, “You heard didn’t you?”
“Y/N please tell me that you like one more than the other, preferably me.” Vink said, “Oh get over yourself-” And there they went, arguing again.
“Guys.”
“Guys.” I said louder, still no answer.
“Shane! Brendan! Will you just shut your damn mouths for two seconds! Gosh!” They looked at me, now angry, not at me, but at each other.
“Will you just choose!” Shane shouted, standing up. “Yeah, and choose the right one!” Brendan yelled, also standing up. And here they went again with the arguing. “Oh my God,” they stopped their bickering and once again looked over at me, “You guys don’t understand what I’m feeling right now! I just found out my two best friends are in love with me! And when I spend time with both of you, I’m just supposed to make my decision on the spot?! That’s dumb!”
They just looked at me, like they had never had me yell at them before, which I hadn’t, but they were surprised.
“Look...I can’t choose. Right now, I just..I just need my space,” I grabbed my stuff before walking out the door, leaving leaving the two Aussies in the middle of the room, “Goodnight, don’t argue, for me.” I gave them a weak smile and closed the door.
But once I did, I leaned against the door, slid down to the floor and wept silently. How can I choose one, without hurting the other?
Cause hurting the other, will hurt me.
Remember me - Penetrator!Eliott AU - Chapter 3
Chapter 2
Lucas doesn’t know what to do with himself after that night.
Again, it felt like more than just sex or casual friends that have sex sometimes. So he wants to enjoy it for what it is: a few dates and a lot of time together doing nothing but enjoying each other’s company, making out, having fantastic sex.
Most of their weekend nights end up being Eliott going out with his friends and calling Lucas late at night asking if they can meet and go home or he’ll just show up at Lucas’ place and sneak into Lucas’ bedroom to sleep with him. But Lucas doesn’t know what they are and if they’re exclusive. It doesn’t feel like it, something in the way that Eliott acts tells him that he’s still fucking other people. Which shouldn’t be a problem, Lucas is the one that doesn’t want a relationship with Eliott.
There are definitely people walking around in school using one of Eliott’s hoodies but Lucas is not worried.
He’s not trying to be cocky but Eliott is crazy about him. And he’s starting to feel it too but he won’t tell the other one or Eliott won’t ever stop bragging about his skills to win Lucas’ love and attention.
Lucas never wears his hoodie outside but he loves to walk around using Eliott’s hoodie when they’re alone, making a show out of it and Eliott forgets about the world, watching Lucas like he’s the hottest man there is.
Lucas doesn’t deal with the penetrators. They do their reckless things and they go making out with everyone and he doesn’t care to spend a second of any day think about it. They have problems with everyone so Lucas doesn’t worry.
Everyone is at this party tonight which is a miracle. Usually, there are a bunch of parties going on and you’ll meet separate groups at different times during the night at different parties. But everyone is in one small apartment tonight and that can’t go well.
Lucas just wants to enjoy himself, get drunk with his friends and forget about all the drama. Forget about his fight with Manon and Mika earlier, forget about Eliott dancing and flirting with his ex again. He doesn’t even know why they just don’t get back together already.
So the obvious decision is to get right back at him. There’s this girl that has been trying to get Lucas’ attention for weeks now and he was just too worried about Eliott to do something about it. But tonight is their lucky night. Lucas pulls her to dance. She’s nice, doesn’t ask too many questions, seems very chill and very willing to kiss for a little.
But Lucas can’t help but open his eyes for a second, letting her lead the kiss and Eliott is across the room, fully making out with his ex. He smiles into the kiss and brushes their lips together before getting in for another heated kiss. And he has the audacity to looking straight at Lucas while shoving his tongue inside the girl’s smiley mouth.
And Lucas can’t continue kissing the girl, she tries to press her fingers against the back of his neck, bring him back to the moment but he’s too self-aware now. He stopped dancing and she stops as well, frowning.
“Shit. Sorry, I have to go.” He tries to give her a reassuring smile while almost running away from her and from the party. It’s still early but his night was ruined. For a minute or two while walking down the street he thinks about how fucked up he is. He’s constantly saying that he doesn’t want anything to do with Eliott and his friends but then he’s about to cry because he saw him kissing or making out with someone else.
Ok, it’s not just anyone. It’s his ex-girlfriend who he dated for years, so they must still have feelings for each other.
As soon as he manages to get inside a cab, his phone is vibrating inside his jacket. He gets it to send a message to Yann that must be worried about him being gone. But the notification is something completely different.
Two can play that game, Lucas.
He forgets about texting Yann, putting his phone away and closing his eyes until he can get home, trying to think about something else. Someone else.
The ride almost makes him fall asleep. He’s thankful that he’s not thinking about Eliott anymore.
It’s almost three so it’s early for a Saturday night in his routine. The flat is completely empty so he won’t have to deal with Manon at least for tonight. His house is never empty so he takes advantage of it when it is.
He forgot to go grocery shopping this week so there’s not much to cook. He opens a beer while he tries to make cookies. Mika has some chocolate chips so he steals a handful of it to put on the batter.
Suddenly he can hear his phone against the coffee table. Someone is sending him a bunch of messages but he doesn’t risk checking it. Whoever it is will have to fix their own problems tonight.
It takes an hour from start to ready-to-eat. He puts all his cookies in a bowl, they smell delicious and it’s still a little warm, probably chewy on the inside and that’s all he needs. Lucas sits on the couch, relaxing and taking a bite of his first cookie.
His phone receives another message, lighting up the living room. There’s a bunch of messages on his screen. When he looks at it’s just the group chat so he sits up, grabbing his phone to finally catch up.
Something is going on and Lucas doesn’t know the full story but he knows it’s time to just leave the bickering for tomorrow and check if Eliott is ok. The penetrators are always getting themselves into trouble. Actual trouble, not just teenage drama with girls. Often the police are called during their parties.
Lucas has a spare key to Eliott’s place, his mom gave it to Lucas the last he was there during Eliott’s episode. He doesn’t know if he should use it but he doesn’t think about it too much, putting his cookies in a container and rushing out of the flat, trying to call Eliott a million times and he never picks up. It goes directly to the voicemail. So he sends a couple of messages and Eliott is not even seeing them.
When he’s about to park in front of the other one’s house, Eliott’s name finally comes up brightly in the middle of his screen and he rushes to answer the call.
“What’s going on?” Lucas knows something is going on but it would be good to hear directly from the source.
“Something happened...” The cab driver parked his car, looking at Lucas and he just raises his hand, asking the guy to wait for a second.
“Where are you?”
“I need you to pick me up at the police station.” Lucas is not sure if he heard it right. He’s never been to a fucking police station before.
“What? What happened?” He tries to pay closer attention to Eliott on the other side of the line. His voice is very low, he sounds tired. Lucas asks the driver to go to the police station, doesn’t even know which one but the guy obeys, turning the car back on and going back to the street.
“I’ll send you the address, ok? I’ll explain it in person. Just come. Quickly, if possible.” Lucas hangs up, anxiously waiting for the message with the address.
It’s late, there’s no traffic so it’s not a very long drive to the police station, Eliott is by himself outside and Lucas can see his bruised eye from afar. He doesn’t know what to do or what to say but he manages to pay the driver and rush to Eliott.
Eliott must know that Lucas is freaking out because as soon as Lucas is hugging him, he takes Lucas off the ground, wrapping both arms around his waist, not caring if they’re in public. He walks them back to the sidewalk, already looking for another cab.
-
Lucas will lose his mind once he knows what happened. Maybe he shouldn’t know just yet. Eliott is just trying to avoid to have the argument in public and he tries to come up with some excuse that Lucas will buy.
Eliott stays quiet until they’re inside the cab, he gives the driver his address and lays down to rest his head on Lucas’ lap. His head is still hurting a lot and his mind is racing but he doesn’t want to touch the bruise or Lucas will start the questioning and Eliott is still trying to play the victim.
Lucas has one arm around him and he can feel that he is resting against the seat. He seems at ease now that Eliott is with him. And Eliott is in love with him and he knows that this kind of behavior is what keeps Lucas away from a relationship with him.
You’re a penetrator and you’re proud of it. Lucas always says like it’s the worst thing someone can be.
Every minute that goes by Eliott prays to get home in the next one. Or Lucas might start talking and he won’t stop until he gets his answers. Eliott gets up when the cab stops in front of his building, he pays the ride and waits for Lucas so they can go inside.
While walking upstairs in the dark Eliott can hear Lucas’ phone getting a bunch of messages. Well, this is it.
Affinity - Ch. 4 (10.04)
McDanno, A03
A continuous story of season 10 episode codas.  Steve may describe their relationship as a dysfunctional marriage, but at some point, will he and Danny take a closer look at what it really could be?
Chapter 4 (10.04)
They stay at the bar at the Hilton longer than they should, but it feels good to relax after the stress of the day.  Steve loves having his team together like this, everyone safe and in the same place. Danny’s at his side, smiling and laughing, and all is right with the world.
Steve doesn’t pretend that Danny’s playful mood doesn’t affect him, and the rest of the team is well aware. Every glance over to the two of them from Lou or Tani results in a knowing smile, and it’s a feedback loop of fond approval that just keeps getting better.
Steve vows to keep doing this, gathering his ohana around him, as often as he can.  He’s not a fatalistic guy, but still, he needs to make sure to appreciate what he has.  Because it’s pretty damn good.
Finally Lou announces that he needs to get home to Renee, and Adam heads out with him.  Quinn looks undecided, but Tani’s ears suddenly perk up when a new band plays their opening riff on the other side of the bar, and she convinces Junior and Quinn to go check it out with her.
“She loves to dance,” Junior says in explanation to Quinn, setting his hand on the small of Tani’s back so quickly that if you blinked, you would miss it.
“Sounds like fun,” Quinn responds easily.  “You guys coming too?”
Steve answers for them both. “Nah, we’re good.”
Danny shoots an approving nod at Steve. Danny may have spent the day teasing Steve about dating, but he’s right on board with the more important things in life – like chilling out right here while the kids go play.
 Steve’s still not sure why Danny is so fixated on finding him a date.  At one point during the day Steve had turned the conversation back on Danny, trying to find out whether he’s dating Rachel, but Danny just brushed him off and went right back to trying to set Steve up.  It’s a little weird.
 A waiter stops by to see if they want more beer, and Steve orders them each a whiskey instead.
 “Now you’re talking,” Danny says, giving him a goofy grin.  They sit companionably for a while, people watching.  Danny has his legs kicked out in front of him, and his chair has migrated closer to Steve’s, so they’re both looking out over the patio.  It’s like when they sit on Steve’s beach, except with Bob Marley  playing in the background, and considerably more tourists.
 Danny’s elbow bumps Steve’s arm every once in a while, even more so when their drinks arrive.
 “You did good today,” Steve says, as they clink their glasses together.  “The whole team did.”
 Danny takes a long sip.  Steve watches as he licks his lips afterwards, tongue quickly flickering out and back again.  There’s a slight flush to Danny’s cheeks, the way he gets when he’s had just enough alcohol to loosen the tension that seems to be as much as part of Danny as his ridiculous haircuts.
 “Yeah, we did okay.  Wish we didn’t have to go running to Wright, though. He’s an ass.”
 Steve snorts.  “Can’t say I disagree.”
 “Definitely makes you miss Jerry,” Danny says.  “Not that that’s the only reason.”
 “Of course not.”  Steve finishes his whiskey and considers ordering another. Danny’s almost done with his as well, so when the attentive waiter inquires, Steve nods.
 Danny grins at him.  “That kind of night, huh?”
 “What?”
 “Hope you brought your wallet.”
 “Ha ha, hasn’t that joke gotten old already?”
 “It’ll never get old, buddy, not until you start paying your way.”
 “Hey, I paid for our drinks last time we got the team together,” Steve protests.
 “You brought one lonely six-pack of beer, and then sent Junior out for more.  I don’t think that counts.”
 They launch into an accounting of all the ways Steve has annoyed Danny by not, in Danny’s words, being a gentleman when it comes to money, when Quinn shows up, hair tousled and eyes bright.
 “Forgot my phone,” she says, finding it under a napkin on the table.  “Thought I’d take some pictures.  Junior’s got some interesting moves.”  She grins at them.  “Sure you guys don’t want to join us?  The band is pretty good.”
 “Nah, Danny’s a terrible dancer,” Steve says, fighting down a smile.
 “I am <i>not</i> - why would you say that?  Why?  You’re a terrible person-”  They don’t really notice Quinn leaving.
 Their friendly bickering dies down, and Danny stretches back in his chair, closing his eyes.  Steve finds himself admiring the way Danny’s lashes fall over his cheeks, and mentally gives himself a strong kick in the behind. He has got to stop looking at his partner this way.
 As if Steve had spoken the words out loud, Danny’s eyes blink open to find Steve staring at him.  “What?”  Danny asks lazily, letting his head fall to the side as he turns to Steve.
 Desperate to avoid actually saying what’s on his mind, Steve reverts back to their earlier conversation.  “The team did good today.”
 Danny frowns.  “Yeah, you said that already.  Team did good.”
 “I mean, everyone worked well together, especially given that it was Quinn’s first day,” Steve says, searching for a way to defend his otherwise completely repetitive statement. “Could’ve been rough for her. Yumi being a spy was definitely a surprise, right?  But Quinn rose to the occasion, don’t you think?”
 Danny’s looking at him with a decidedly less relaxed expression than he’s been sporting for the past little while, and Steve prepares himself for the inevitable Danny rant that seems to be coming.  But then something passes over Danny’s face and he seems to resign himself, leaning back in his chair again.
 “Sure, she did.  So long as Quinn’s the only thing rising.”  Danny adds a little sneer to this, an attempt at innuendo that catches Steve by surprise.
 “What?”
 “You heard me.”
 “Danny – that was – that was- did you?” Steve sputters.  Did Danny just make a reference to his… private parts?
 Danny grins at his discomfort. “Sorry.  Too far?”
 “Yes,” Steve says firmly. “You’re way, way off base.”
 “I just know you tend to get, shall we say…” Danny waves his hands in the general direction of Steve’s body, including his lower half, “excited… by shows of competence on the part of the female members of our team.  Especially when accompanied by crazy jujitsu fighting.”
 Steve can feel the heat rising in his cheeks.  “Okay, first of all, it’s not as if I even saw Quinn and Tani fighting today. Second, I do not” he waves his hands back at Danny “I do not get aroused by female members of the team doing their jobs, if that’s what you are implying-”
 “Aroused?  That’s a good word for it, sorry I didn’t think of that one,” Danny says, his eyes flashing with amusement.  “And I beg to differ.  You love it when a woman goes all bad-ass on the bad guys.”
 “It’s not like that – Danny!”  To be fair, Steve is aware that he has somewhat of a competence kink, but it’s not limited to the female members of the team. And he is far too professional to let it distract him at work.  Usually.
 “I said I was sorry,” Danny says, laughing outright now.
 Steve doesn’t know why he lets Danny rile him up.  Okay, he does kind of know, it’s as much fun as anything else they do together.  But he got sucked into this one far too easily. “You are clearly not sorry,” he retorts.
 “Eh, maybe not.”  Danny snorts and laughs at the same time.  It shouldn’t be as attractive as it is.  “But I see you watching our newest member-” Danny breaks off, eyebrows flying up as he realizes the missed possibility of making something out of the word “member.”
 Steve’s eyebrows fly up.  “What is this, middle school?  I promise you, I am not thinking about sex when I’m working with Quinn.”  At least that’s true.  He’s been too focused on assessing her skills and how she fits in with the team to even consider such a thing.
 Danny just starts laughing even more, enjoying the shit out of Steve’s protests.  “Glad to hear it, babe, really, nice of you to be so specific.  You’re a crazy man, I don’t know why I put up with you, I can’t believe those words even came out of your mouth, but I am definitely glad to hear it-”
 Steve sees it happening, knows what’s going to happen before it does, but even his reflexes aren’t enough to stop it. Danny’s tilting his chair back and waving his arms as he rants at Steve, and he pushes with a foot on an empty chair just to get a little more action in his tilt, when one of the chair legs gives out and the whole thing goes crashing backwards, taking Danny with it.
 Steve lunges to catch Danny, but he can’t get there in time.  He sees the chair slam down on the stone paving, and flinches as Danny’s head hits the ground with a thud.
 In seconds Steve is on his knees next to Danny, hands on his head.  Danny’s eyes are squeezed shut, and he’s not moving, and for a long second Steve’s heart freezes in his chest.  But then Danny groans and tries to sit up.  Steve grabs his shoulders, his body pressed close.
 “Hey, hey, don’t move for a sec, okay?” Steve runs his fingers around Danny’s head, checking for blood.
 “Ow ow ow, fuck, stop,” Danny scrabbles at Steve’s hands, but Steve just shifts and holds him steady.
 “Lemme check you out, hold still.”
 “Fucking hurts,” Danny says, squirming. Steve satisfies himself that Danny’s head still seems to be in one piece, and helps him detangle himself from the chair and sit more comfortably on the ground.
 “Danny, open your eyes,” Steve says, one hand on Danny’s shoulder to support him, the other cupping his face. “You with me?”
 Danny squints at him, blue eyes meeting his.  “Where else would I be?”
 “Good, good.”
 There’s a small crowd gathering, and miraculously Tani is there with a bag of ice wrapped in a napkin, and Junior is herding people away from the scene.  There’s a manager from the Hilton, too, looking considerably worried.
 Steve holds the ice to the back of Danny’s head, and Danny curses.
 “Quite a mouth on you tonight,” Steve says softly.
 Danny’s leaning against him, and he half-heartedly pokes Steve with a finger.  “Shut up.  Ow.”
 Tani crouches down next to them. “You okay, Danny?  Manager says this has never happened before, apologized all over the place.  Even said he’d cover our tab.”
 Danny laughs into Steve’s shoulder, and then groans.
 “What?”
 “Figures Steve would get away with not paying again.”
 Steve lets out a long breath.  If Danny’s ribbing him, he’s not dying, at least probably not.  They sit there for a few minutes more, the ice melting and dripping down into Danny’s collar.  Finally Danny fidgets sufficiently and it’s time to move.
 “Come on, let’s get you up.” Steve ducks under Danny’s arm and wraps himself around Danny’s waist, helping him stagger to his feet.
 “Ow, fuck,” Danny says eloquently, closing his eyes again.  Steve just holds them in place for a minute, letting Danny get his bearings.
 Quinn appears next to them, head turning in all directions, eyes alert as she tries to catch up.  She was getting drinks when Danny fell.  “What happened?”
 Danny sighs and straightens, stepping away from Steve.  “Nothing, relax, it’s fine,” Danny says.
 Maybe, but Steve would still rather keep holding on to Danny.  Steve doesn’t think he’s particularly steady.  And, you know, he’s nice to hold onto.
 “Danny just smacked the ground with his head,” Tani says lightly.  “Didn’t like the way it was looking at him.”
 Quinn doesn’t seem convinced.
 “No, really, we’re okay,” Steve says, hardly noticing that he included himself in with Danny.  “You guys go back and have fun, I think we’re going to head home.”
 Tani fusses over Danny a little more, whispering something in his ear that makes him huff out a pained laugh, and herds Junior and Quinn away.  Steve blows out a breath, and turns to Danny, who suddenly looks even less steady than he did a moment ago.
 Steve’s suspicion is confirmed when Danny ducks his head and groans again, hands coming up to cover his eyes. Danny didn’t want the new girl to see him hurting.  Steve gets it.  This getting old thing sucks.
 “Come on, buddy, let’s go,” Steve says, wrapping an arm around Danny’s waist.
 Danny sags against him.  “Feels like my head’s gonna explode.”
 “I know.”
 They make their way slowly out through the maze that is the Hilton.  It’s busy even at this time of night, and Steve steers Danny as gently as he can past groups of partying guests.  He wonders if they should have walked along the dark beach instead, but then Danny would just complain about getting sand in his shoes.
 Finally they make it to the street, and Steve quickly helps Danny into a waiting cab.  Steve’s had a little too much to drink to think about driving, even though Danny’s fall has done a lot to sober him up.  But in any case, he’d rather be able to give Danny his full attention.
 Steve waits until they are settled inside the cab to say what needs to be said.  “Maybe we should stop by the hospital, get you checked out.”
 Danny moans again, but this time it isn’t because of his headache.  “You incredible hypocrite.  You would never go to the hospital for this.”
 Danny’s right, of course, but Steve won’t admit it.  “You hit your head really hard, Danny, and you weren’t braced for it at all.”
 “We get our heads knocked around every day, Steve.  I’m fine. I didn’t lose consciousness.”
 And thank god for that, Steve thinks. He shifts Danny around and looks in his eyes again, just as he did right after the accident.  Danny was tracking then, and he is now, no signs of serious head injury.  “Any nausea? Ringing in your ears?”
 “No, Steve.  No.  Drop it.”
 I will for now, Steve thinks. But he’s keeping an eye on Danny tonight.
 This becomes clear to Danny when they arrive at his house and Steve gets out too.  It’s not the first time they’ve looked after each other after a grueling day at work.   Danny doesn’t even protest.
 Steve takes off his shoes and locks the door behind them, then does a quick check of the house, making sure everything is closed up.  He finds Danny in the kitchen, looking a little green as he drinks down a glass of water.  Danny rolls his eyes when Steve follows him up the stairs.  Steve resists the urge to swat Danny on his perky ass – now is not the time – but his disobedient brain enjoys the sight anyway.
 Steve uses the spare bathroom and gives Danny a minute to get changed.  When he pokes his head into Danny’s bedroom, though, Danny is still mostly dressed, shoes in a tumble in the corner of the room and shirt untucked. He’s leaning against his dresser with his head hanging down.
 Steve gently moves him towards the bed, and Danny sits with a wince.  “I know you just want to sleep,” Steve says softly.  “But you’ll rest better if you take these off.”  He starts in on the buttons on Danny’s shirt, and it’s a sign of just how out of it Danny is that he lets Steve continue.
 Danny rouses a little once his shirt comes off, taking over to undo his belt and shed his pants and socks.  He climbs into bed in his boxers, waving a hand in Steve’s general direction.  “Turn off the light already.”
 Steve does, and then strips down to his underwear.  He scrounges in Danny’s drawers until he finds the spare pair of sweatpants he leaves here, and then climbs into the bed behind Danny.
 “What do you think you’re doing?” Danny mutters, face pressed into the pillow.
 Steve makes himself comfortable, lying on his side.  He’s staring right at the back of Danny’s head.  If there were more light in the room, he could watch to see whether he’s got a bump there.
 “Steven.  Go ‘way.”
 “Nope.”  Steve pulls at the blankets until they are both covered up to their chins.  It may be Hawaii, but it still gets cold at night. “You’re potentially concussed.  If you won’t go to the hospital, I’m keeping a close eye on you.”
 “How’re you gonna do that when you’re asleep, huh?”
 “I’ll figure it out.  Get some rest.”  Steve has already set an alarm on his phone to go off every two hours. It’s switched to vibrate, so it won’t startle Danny.  Steve isn’t leaving anything to chance.
 “I think you’re an idiot but I’m too tired to argue.”
 Steve huffs out a laugh.  This is such familiar territory, it should have their names on it.  “You must be really tired.”
 Danny sighs out a long breath.
 “You okay, Danno?”
 “Yeah.”  Danny shuffles his legs around, winding up a little closer to Steve. “You’re nice and warm.  ‘S good.”
 “Happy to be of service.  Now go to sleep.”
 Steve can’t help but get a little fixated on Danny’s breathing, watching his shoulder gently move as he inhales and exhales.  He knows that Danny is probably right – he’s not injured any more than they usually are from a day like today – but that isn’t making him feel much better.  It would be just their luck to survive countless gunfights and then get taken down by something as commonplace as a broken chair.
 When Steve feels his own eyes start to droop, he decides it’s safe to sleep for a little while.  He lifts up on an elbow, scanning Danny’s face in the dim light for any sign of distress.
 “I’m really glad you’re okay,” Steve whispers, and presses a kiss to Danny’s cheek.
Uuungh “Reunion” has so many feels
And I don’t have the attention anymore tonight to properly express my feelings about everything Ziva is going through.
But I’m so glad they don’t brush it under the rug -- even if it all comes in relation to work.
ETA: Apparently I did have the attention.
Like the fact that the first thing she does once she’s settled back in to DC, such as it (at the Navy Lodge! That’s a whole other topic) is to go see Gibbs, because he’s her dad and her safe haven and she wants to feel safe above all else. And make right what was broken between them. I am certain she never did this with Eli. She’s so soft and tentative with him, and he is as soft with her, but he’s also not letting her off the hook for the reason why she left him in the first place.
“Maybe you think I rigged it with explosives--” “No, I think it looks like a pretty nice chisel.” OH YOU TWO.
“It is your blessing I came for!” Lol Ziva doesn’t give a shit about Vance, she wants daddy’s approval.
Seriously though, wanting her dad’s blessing? Like, this is way more than just work. She wants his blessing to come back into the fold. She needs it. Oh, Ziva.
Dad tells her there’s someone else (other than Vance) she needs to make it right with. IT’S TONY HE KNOWS IT’S TONY BECAUSE TONY LOVES HER AND SHE LOVES TONY AND HE KNOWS IT.
Ziva’s whole attitude when she walks back into the office. She’s kinda going through the motions of their usual bickering, but the fire obviously isn’t there. Ziva is still hurting you guys.
“You’re damaged goods.” JESUS CHRIST LEON. Like, I get his point -- her position now is in a grey area because it technically no longer exists, so how is she supposed to work for NCIS? -- but the way he put it to her I am sure only reinforces what she is feeling about herself after her experience in Somalia. Like, Vance must know what happened to Ziva, right? Or at least have a good idea of how men like Saleem treated their women captives? So calling her “damaged goods” sounds pretty close to victim blaming, and basically it is really icky.
And you see that moment in Ziva too -- the second he says it, you can actually see how it stings her, her eyes tear up, she looks like she’s choking something back. He just confirmed her worst fears about herself.
Also why Vance is such a fan of Eli I don’t know. (I mean I do know, we saw that episode about how they met but like... he’s gross.)
I have a lot of problems with Vance as director though.
Tony and Ziva’s gaze in the bullpen. THEY LOVE EACH OTHER SO MUCH.
THE PAH. Ziva zings him instinctually because this is what they do -- but then apologizes because maybe they aren’t back at that point yet, and if so then what comes across as teasing for them would be mean to others, and she doesn’t want to overstep her bounds. But obviously Tony loves it, because Ziva is back and this is part of why he missed her.
The Abby scene. Let’s just not. I cannot fucking believe Abby would be so cruel to Ziva, when she must know what happened to her and how she’s still fragile. ABBY OF ALL PEOPLE. But at least she backed down and hugged Ziva after?
I don’t even want to know how Abby would fly off the handle at Ziva this season were she there since everyone thought she was DEAD.
Ziva watches Tony pee like A WIFE. THEY ARE SO DOMESTIC.
“You went in on your own, without adequate backup--” “-- And I was double-parked” “YES, I noticed!” THEY ARE SO FUCKING DOMESTIC. SO BICKER. SO LOVE.
Ziva’s whole apology. This is huge for her. She does not come to this easily. But not only does she apologize for doubting Tony, but she basically apologizes for choosing Michael over him.
“I trusted my brother, I trusted Michael, I could not afford to trust you too.” THIS IS HUGE. This is Ziva basically admitting to her self-destructive tendencies. She is saying her brother betrayed her, she knew Michael was betraying her -- she couldn’t bear the thought that Tony might do so too, once her found the truth of her. It all comes down to the fact that Ziva never thinks she’s enough -- she wasn’t enough for her father, or Ari, or even Michael, so why should she be enough for Tony too? And Tony arguably means more to her than any of them, so basically she torpedoed him before he got the chance to hurt her.
“That you had my back. That you have always had my back.” AND HE ALWAYS WILL.
WEDDING VOWS Y’ALL.
Now, Ziva is going through stuff, and I wouldn’t want to rush her on anything. But GODDAMN THEY SHOULD KISS ALREADY. When she is emotionally ready of course.
Ziva and Tony rival Mulder and Scully for the non-platonic kisses other than on the mouth.
The way she kisses his cheek though -- so intimate, so gentle -- that’s not a coworker kiss.
THE CONVERSATION IN THE BASEMENT
UGH MY FEELINGS
OK I’m stopping this here and doing the one of the Gibbs-Ziva scene in another post because FEELINGS
Can four Spongebob episodes be fixed from four unlikely sources?
I've wanted to do this post for a while about two nearly despised Spongebob episodes, but lately someone talked about another recent episode. And, I thought I'd bring back another episode real quick that I've already "defended" with another "fix". So, with those in mind, and four episodes to talk about, let's get to it and talk about four episodes that range from okay to despised and see how unlikely sources can explain them and possibly save them.
Whale Watching
We're going in order from okay to despised, which starts us out on the very recent episode Whale Watching. Now don't get me wrong, a lot of the fandom loves this episode, but some find it okay because they saw Squidward out of character. Instead of being crass and bitter like he is to most other characters, to Pearl Squidward came out pretty timid. I didn't see this at first, but now that I can I don't see this as an issue because he was trying to do a good job as a babysitter in order to earn that Spongebob free shift. Also, the episode confirms that Squidward babysat Pearl since she was a baby, so I can see Squidward gaining a nicety towards Pearl as if she was his niece. But, here's the unlikely source that could fix this character change: Feral Friends. Feral Friends was a special last season that introduced us to our favorite characters downgraded into their animal forms, and we find while some animals fit, like Patrick bring a lazy glutton matches that starfish eat by expelling their stomach, some are hilarious opposites, such as while Krabs and Puff are on again and off again dating, in reality the pufferfish and the crab are bitter rivals in the food chain and are constantly trying to attack and eat each other. Which leads to Squidward and Pearl, where we find out the whale is the predator to the octopus. And they're not kidding, as even in kid show tameness, their fight got pretty graphic, and Squidward almost got ate by Pearl! Now remember how wimpy Squidward got when Pearl practically threatened him with a paper mache tombstone with Squidward's name on it? I'm pretty sure that gave Squidward flashbacks to that feral fight. Now I know Feral Friends hinted that they don't remember what they did when they were feral, but not only did the episode hint that Sandy would tell them, but I don't think Squidward would forget being chewed up and spat out of Pearl's mouth. (One last bit of connection, Feral Friends ended with Squidward and Pearl seeing each other naked. And now we know Squidward babysits Pearl. Yeah, that happened. Awkward.)
Ink Lemonade
I've talked about this episode and this fix before, which is why were going to talk about this one briefly. Also, this only fixes part of the episode, the part where people are grossed out about the Bikini Bottom denizens drinking Squidward's ink. So, what can fix this gross out humor? Spicy squid ink sauce. A specialty sauce made in Japan that is spicy and, as the name advertises, is dyed black with squid ink. That's right, squid ink can be made edible. And Japan loves this stuff, as it's common enough to appear on the Kuro burger, a special black colored burger that appears at most burger joints during the Halloween season. The spiciness also explains the over the top expressions of the characters first drinking the ink lemonade, and one practically breathes fire from how hot it is. So not only is Squidward's ink edible, it's hot! Maybe that's another reason why he doesn't like to ink as much as he does lately, it burns.
Are You Happy Now
What could be more infamous than the episode where Squidward is so depressed we see him brushing up against jokes referencing suicide? I can see why many fans despised this. But lately, I saw how similar it is to a more popular episode called Enchanted Tiki Dreams. Tiki Dreams has Squidward also badly depressed, and no matter what Spongebob does Squidward can't fully get happy. It sounds like Happy Now, but there's a key difference. In Tiki Dreams Squidward eventually becomes happy, while in Happy Now he gets more and more depressed. Which makes me think what the difference is between the two. Well, here's my theory: drugs, or specifically, antidepressants. With how sad and mopey Squidward can get, and for good reason in some cases, it's not unlikely that Squidward would take something for being depressed. But, some people can and will stop taking their medication. So, in that respect, Tiki Dreams and Happy Now are unofficially paired episodes. Tiki Dreams is Squidward in a depressed mood, but manages to shake out of it once his medicine kicks in, and even stay somewhat happy when his dream world is destroyed. While Happy Now is him so depressed he stops taking his meds, making him go through his depressing mood and only getting worse and worse as he can't shake out of it on his own. And without his meds, he looks like he's in a state where he doesn't want to. And it doesn't help that when Squidward does eventually get happy it's because he eventually snaps into a rage that somehow makes him happy? This doesn't sound like a healthy form of happy. Not taking his meds may also explain the glaring plot hole that Squidward doesn't have a happiest memory, he's too depressed to remember a happiest memory.
A Breath of Fresh Squidward
This episode finally gave us Squidward happy, but it's still despised by how they did it. Squidward installs an electric fence to keep Spongebob and Patrick out, but in the show's trend at the time of punishing Squidward for no reason, Squidward shocks himself with it. The shock changes his mood to always happy, and while everyone loves it, eventually Spongebob doesn't like being usurped as the happy guy on the block. This causes Squidward to be sad, cumulating in the end where Squidward, Spongebob and Patrick all get shocked by the fence, and all three become grouchy Squidwards.
Now out of all the unlikely sources, nothing is more unlikely than Nickelodeon's competitor, Disney, or specifically, Pixar. That's right, Breath of Fresh Squidward could be explained by Inside Out. I love Inside Out, and one of my favorite things that makes me love the movie more is seeing other characters from other shows in Inside Out logic. That led me to looking at how Squidward's mind works in this logic, and eventually this episode. First, let's look at how his mind works in Inside Out terms. Each mind is run by five emotions: Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust and Fear. With how grumpy he is, Squidward appears to be missing this Joy, but that's not exactly true. Squidward has been seen as happy, mostly when he's alone with things that make him happy like his art or music. So whenever the other emotions see no need for Squidward to be scared or angry or sad or disgusted, they'll let Joy take the controls, but most of the time they're so busy making Squidward scared or angry or sad or disgusted, that his Joy ends up away from the console, either entertaining himself (or herself, sometimes I think Squidward's Joy could be a female) with music or art or other happy things, but mostly being bored and kinda miffed that he can't make Squidward happier. Then Squidward gets shocked by the electric fence and, partly because the mind works on electric current running through neurons, the shock runs through the console and shocks Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust, knocking them out. At first Joy, who was safely away from the console so unhurt, is worried about his co-workers, then pouty as he has to run Squidward all by himself, then Joy gets excited as he realizes he has Squidward all to himself. Leading to Joy having the best day ever by making Squidward have a happy and optimistic day. Until eventually Spongebob gets mad at Squidward, making him sad. This is because just before Spongebob snaps at him, Squidward's sadness comes to, realizes what Joy has been doing, but gets sad when all this happiness upsets Spongebob. This makes Sadness sad because he's Sadness, and while both Joy and Sadness bicker and fight at the console, the controls they hit make Squidward run home and eventually get shocked by the fence. The shock knocks out Joy and Sadness, but at the same time wakes up Anger, Disgust and Fear, making Squidward his grumpy self again as they take over. This also explains the shift in Spongebob and Patrick's personalities, as the shock could have at least left their Anger or Disgust in control, or maybe both of them, and that's why they became grumpy Squidward.
Again, this idea is a real big stretch, but once you see it through it not only makes a lot of sense, but seeing Squidward's emotions running around in his mind is a lot of fun. For example, how would Squidward's emotions look? To me, I imagine them as Squidward's but their skin tone matches the color if their personality, so Joy is a yellow Squidward, Fear is a purple Squidward, Anger is a red Squidward, Disgust is a green Squidward and Sadness is a blue Squidward. Their voices are a tough call, they can all sound like Squidward but with different inflections so Joy sounds happier and Anger sounds gruffer for example, or go all out and get a different voice actor or guest star to voice each different emotion! And we have to think of how they look to match their personality. For example, I imagine Squidward's Joy would wear a like green Hawaiian shirt with a floral print much like the sky flowers in the ocean. (If his Joy is a female, same thing but the shirt is longer to make it a dress). And just as a jab at Squidward, have his Joy be the only emotion with hair (the classic dark blue hair most Joys have) and is basically a clarinet and artiste prodigy! But unfortunately Squidward would always be the bald amateur at his craft, at least his Joy shows he has potential to be great. (Okay I went on a paragraph long tangent about inside out, now can you see how obsessed I am about this movie, new peoples?)
Anyway, there it is. Four unliked episodes and how they can be explained or fixed by four unlikely things. And nothing is more despised than Happy Now and Fresh Squidward, and nothing is more unlikely as drugs and Pixar. But tell me what you think. Did these explanations and theories fix these problems and maybe make you like the episodes now? Or do you still despise them despite the fix? Or hell, do you have a better way to fix these issues? Or do you also want to talk about Squidward, Spongebob or Patrick's emotions? Reblog or message me with your comments, and let's have our own open discussions about Spongebob, drugs, babysitters, ink sauce and Pixar.
*Y/F/N = Your “French Mistake” First Name *Y/F/L/N = Your “French Mistake” Last Name
You and the boys managed to find the crime scene without any help from Genevieve or Nate, who looked at all of you like a bunch of psychos for wanting to know where your good friend and costar, Misha, was murdered just an hour ago. The poor bastard was found in the back of an alley with his throat slit clean. Lucky for you, a homeless man claimed to have witnessed everything. You passed by Misha's dead body that remained on the ground, covered in a white sheet after the police took what photos they would need. But they couldn’t cover up the blood stain from his slit throat that was still slowly gushing away. You had to admit, even though he was annoying, you felt bad for having the man’s life cut short like this.
“Yeah, yeah. Raphael. Like the ninja turtle. He was calling someone named Raphael in heaven. The scary man killed the attractive crying man. And then he started to pray.” You and the boys spotted the homeless man who witnessed the murder give a statement to a detective. The three of you decided to ask him to repeat his story. But it seemed no matter where you went, people always were afraid to admit what they saw. “And the strange part...after a while, I swear I heard this voice answering.”
“What it’d say?” You asked the man in a serious voice. You gave him your full attention, giving him no indication you were going to laugh in his face like the detective had. He had doubts you and the boys were going to believe anything else that came out of his mouth.
“You know, it didn’t make any sense.” The man mumbled. You gave him a smile, telling him to try you. All of you heard a lot of crazy stuff over the past twenty four hours. What he was about to say probably would be the only thing you would be able to understand since landing in this mixed up universe. “The voice said for Virgil to return tomorrow at the place where he crossed over at the the time of the crossing. And Raphael would reach through the window and take him and the key home.”
You knew exactly what to make of what the man just said, and none of it left a good feeling in your stomach. You put on a smile for his cooperation and shoved a hand inside your pocket, pulling out some money for him. You pulled out what looked like a fifty in Canadian dollars and thanked him for his help. As he walked away, your smile slowly began to disappear and a sigh of frustration fell from your mouth. You should have known that goon was sent over by Raphael, the pain in your ass that was hellbent on kick starting the apocalypse all over again. No matter how many times you tried to put out the fire, he kept igniting it back up.
“Guys, if Virgil gets back with that key, Cas is dead and our world is toast.” Sam said. He tried painting you a picture of the grim reality of the consequences that would happen if none of you put a stop to this. You didn’t need to be told twice to go after Virgil and kick his ass.
"Well, then we stop him. I mean, how bad can an angel with no wings be?" Dean asked. You and the boys thought Virgil was just a plain old Joe like the rest of you. You thought that he was going to be an easy target to take down. And he might have been. But you forgot what humans will do in order to make themselves the most powerful one around.
+ + +
You and the boys headed back to the studio after getting some helpful insight from the homeless guy that was now fifty bucks richer. It was a waiting game now for what was to come. You sat yourself down on the ratty old couch that you spent so many days before in another universe, discussing conversations about hunts or the end of the world that you tried to stop. Now it was just a prop, useless like the rest of the junk in this place. The three of you were silent for a little while since you arrived, trying to keep out for anything that might tip off Virgil’s whereabouts. If he wanted to leave with the key, he’d have to come back here. You looked down at your hand to see you were still wearing the ring that was supposed to belong to Y/F/N, a woman you were pretending to be over the past twenty four hours since you were thrown into this disaster. She was the well-established actress that played you, with two parents and engaged to the man that you thought was your good friend from back home. While it might have looked like a perfect life for you to stay and enjoy, it was far from it.
Back in your own world, you were happily romantically involved with Dean and best friends with his little brother. The three of you were your own dysfunctional, yet loving family. I In this universe you were once engaged until things turned sour. None of you talked, none of you were close—or even friends for that matter. You’d rather be in your own universe that was nameless to the people around you, with your real family that loved and talked, even bickered with half the time. And nothing was more rewarding than being a hunter than playing one on TV. “You know that if we drop Virgil, get the key, then this might be it.” Dean’s voice broke your concentration on the diamond ring that shined underneath the studio lights. You looked up at him to hear what he had to say. “We might be stuck here.” “No, we'll figure out a way back.” Sam said, staying positive the outcome of the situation ending up with all of you home again. “Yeah, you wouldn't be that broken up if we didn't, though.” Dean said. You furrowed your brow and told him not to be stupid. He was thinking of the silver lining of this situation you were choosing to ignore. “Well, I'm just saying. No hell below us, above us only sky.” “Dean,” You spoke up, reminding him of a life and things that money couldn't buy. Nothing could touch what you had back at home that was worth everything here, cheesy as it sounded to you. But it was true. “Our friends are back there.” “Yeah, but here, you two got a pretty good life. I mean, back home, the hits have been coming since you were two and Sammy was six months old.” Dean argues you his points of to stay. “You got to admit, being a bazillionaire, married to Ruby, the whole package. It's no contest.” “Yeah. It’s pretty fun. But there’s something I don’t have here that I do back at home.” You reminded the older Winchester about the benefits of going back home. You pushed yourself up to your feet and headed over to him. As your lips stretched into a smile, you wrapped your arms around his neck and pulled him into a simple kiss to show what you meant. “That’s you, knucklehead. Screw everything. We don’t mean the same thing here. I mean, you two aren’t even brothers. The worst tragedy is that Sammy and I aren’t even besties.” Sam let out a quiet chuckle from your odd choice of words, “Besties?” “That’s right, Sasquatch. I said besties. You got a problem with that?” You looked over at Sam when you questioned his tone of voice with an arched brow. He shook his head and smiled. “Now, you two idiots want to get back to where we belong or spend another day attempting to act?” “Yeah, no. Let's get our crazy show back home.” Dean muttered. He settled his hands on your waist for a moment when you forced him to relive the agonizing catastrophe that was from earlier today. You smiled when he suddenly became eager to get this plan in motion. You were about to open your mouth and say something, but you suddenly found yourself stricken silent by the sound of an echoing noise that was all too familiar. “Call me crazy, but was that a gunshot?”
You and the boys investigated the noise to see it was just that. Two dead bodies from fatal gunshot wounds and several casualties left to bleed out. You caught sight of Virgil who was back with a vengeance. He might be an angel without wings, but he knew the next best thing. Before anyone else could get hurt, the three of you made a plan to take Virgil down once and for all. He took three more shots before you jumped out of nowhere.
"Hey!" You shouted on the top of your lungs. You waved your arms in the air in attempt to get his attention. Your lips stretched into a smirk when you saw him standing there with what looked like an empty shotgun and nothing more than a pistol. The way he was shooting off with the rounds, he'd be out soon. "Come get me you—"
Before you could finish your taunting, Virgil quickly turned around where he stood and brought up the pistol to where you stood and shot off another round. You managed to get out of the way just in time before the bullet landed in your head instead of the glass. Before he could try again, Dean came out of nowhere, tackling Virgil, the both of them falling against a wobbly wall and into another set that looked like a motel room. Dean wasted no time in throwing punches and trying to keep Virgil down for long as he could until you and Sam came barging into the room.
The boys went after Virgil to make it an unfair fight of two against one. You searched every pocket that you could on the man, from his pants to the jacket, but you barely coming up with anything. While you mentally cursed at how much room you were working with, you found success when you felt something cold brush against your fingers. Your lips stretched into a victorious smile when you yanked out the key Balthazar gave you to hold onto.
"Guys!" You pushed yourself up to your feet and held up the key. "I got it."
When the boys got done with Virgil, you could tell from just one glance that he wasn’t going to be bothering anyone for a while. You were about to reach out your foot to kick him lightly to see if he was even still alive. But you found your attention lingering to the chaos that was about to unravel. You felt the ground beneath you and everything around you begin to shake. You had a feeling this was the place where Virgil was supposed to be, where he crossed over and pulled back into your universe. The person who made the promise was an enemy you really didn’t want to see after all you went through here.
You warned for the boys to run when you looked over your shoulder and saw a familiar sigil suddenly appear on the window. No matter how fast you thought you were, Raphael would always be stronger. You took one lunging step forward before you felt yourself being yanked backwards by an invisible force and straight into the glass window. Unlike the first time, you weren't as lucky to get a cushioned fall. You landed face first on the pavement littered with pieces of broken glass and wood.
You didn’t know which one hurt more, the shards of glass digging into your palm or the aching pain in your body from being thrown around like a ragdoll. You managed to gather enough energy to reach out a hand and slowly push yourself up to more of a kneeling position. When you looked up, you expected to be greeted by the sight of Raphael, whose personal choice of vessel were more of the male variety. But you were greeted with a little change.
"You three," Raphael approached you and the boys with a calm stride. You pushed yourself up to your feet and eyed him carefully, wondering if he was going to try and pull anything. "Have the strangest luck."
“Raphael. I have to say, nice meatsuit.” You complimented the archangel on his choice of female he picked out. Flattery was the sincerest form of kindness, Raphael didn’t crack a smile.
All of a sudden you felt yourself in agonizing pain from the simple clench of Raphael's fist. You felt your knees buckle underneath you as your hands pressed themselves against your stomach. Raphael showed no remorse when he demanded to know where the key was. He found it on his own when he saw it on the ground just a few inches from where he stood. So much trouble for one little key. While the archangel believed that it was the answer to solve all his problems, it turned out it wasn’t that significant, after all.
“And that will open you a locker at the Albany bus station.” You felt the pain vanish quickly as it came from a familiar accent you heard from earlier tonight. It was Balthazar, here to collect what you had tried so hard to keep onto. You pushed yourself up to your feet when you heard what that damn key was all about. "You see, I needed a modest decoy to make it more convincing.
“Give me the weapons.” Raphael demanded.
“Sorry, darling. They’re gone.” Balthazar said. It seemed the archangel wasn’t very pleased to hear the news from the tone of his voice. And you weren't either from the brilliant plan Balthazar had up his sleeve. “I said, too bloody late. You see, they were so well hidden that I needed time to find them. So I volunteered Y/N and her two marmosets for a game of fetch with Virgil. You three were such an adequate stick. Thank you. Thank you.”
“You’ve made your last mistake.” Raphael said. He was growing tired of the games an angel beneath him in power and strength was trying to play. You swallowed slightly from the snarky remark Balthazar used to reply.
“I’ve got a few more tricks up my sleeve, honey.”
Raphael didn’t like the pet names he was hearing. He began walking towards the angel, ready to lay down the law and get what he wanted. But before he could lay a single finger on any of you, a familiar voice you knew well rang out. “Step away from him Raphael.” Cas warned. You looked to see it was the angel himself. “I have the weapons now. The power is with me. If you don’t want to die tonight, back off.”
It seemed Raphael knew when to listen. You blinked, and just like that, he was gone from your sight. You didn't have a good feeling about any of what just unravel. But to Balthazar and Cas, it was a successful night. “Now that you have your sword, try not to die by it.” The parting words by Balthazar were for his fellow brother, who had done just about everything to get what he wanted for a fight neither you or the boys understood.
"Cas, what the hell?" You had your questions when you saw the angel walk up to you after Balthazar vanished into thin air. Your head felt like it was still spinning from everything that was going on. But before you could pester him, you noticed your surroundings changed. Cas transported you and the boys back to Bobby's house with the broken window and the storm brewing outside. All as what it was, like no time had passed. You were quick to catch Cas when you started to make sense of this situation. “You were in on this, weren't you? Using us as diversion?”
“It was Balthazar’s plan.” The angel explained his reasoning. You scoffed at his pathetic excuse that sounded anything but stupid and risky on your part alone. “I would have done the same thing.”
“That’s not comforting, Cas.” Dean said.
“When will I be able to make you understand? If I lose against Raphael, we all lose everything.” Cas told you the same line that you’ve been hearing for months now.
“Yeah, Cas, we know the stakes.” You reminded the angel. “That’s all about you’ve told us.”
“I’m sorry about all of this.” Cas apologized. You noticed that his gaze was in your direction, but he avoided any sort of eye contact with you. “I’ll explain when I can.”
You had a feeling that's all you were going to get from Cas. You let out a sigh of frustration when he disappeared from your sight, leaving you and the boys alone with more questions and no answers. Dean rolled his eyes and muttered about freaking angels. They were no good. Dean wiped his hands with his face from the troublesome past few days as you inspected the damage you were going to have to explain to Bobby when he got back. Sam found himself walking across the room and to the doorway. Your head quickly snapped in his direction when you heard him whack the wall a few times.
“Solid. It’s real.” Sam clarified. “Nice.”
“Yeah. Real, moldy, termite-eaten home, sweet home. Chock full of crap that wanna skin you. Oh,” Dean couldn’t forget the most glamorous detail that was the least exciting part of being back in your own universe. “We’re broke again.”
"True. But...at least we're talking.” You reminded the older Winchester one detail that the most important one of all. Dean didn’t find it amusing as you did. He turned his head slightly to roll his eyes as his lips stretched into a smile from your sarcastic remark. “Now, wipe that smirk off your face and find a tarp or something. Bobby’s gonna be home soon.”
Josh didn’t know the last time since he laughed, let alone, smiled. He was hunched over in his office chair with his laptop open to at least six different browsers and a dozen or so dusty books crowded around his wooden desk that was a hand-me down from his grandmother. He smiled slightly as he sank his teeth down harder against his thumb, half listening to the story you were telling over the past few minutes. It had been months since the last time that he'd seen you, and three weeks since he'd gotten a phone call. You told him that you'd been busy, so had he.
You and him had a very peculiar friendship over the past decade and a half. He knew you since you were a freshman in high school and next door neighbors after his parents died tragically in a car accident. You helped him through one of the worst times in his life by sharing a bit of your past. The both of you had grown closer by sharing a liking to things most people their age found nerdy and tried your hardest in school. Since he was a year older than you, he would help tutor you in subjects you were struggling with a bit. On Tuesdays it was your place after school, and on Wednesdays it would be at his.
Unfortunately your friendship that had been growing for a few years was cut short when Josh graduated early and got accepted to a college halfway across the country. He broke the news to you on the front porch of his house when you knocked on his door. Your friends had been teasing you for weeks to ask him out. And with the winter formal not too far away, you gathered all the courage you had to ask him to do it. He’d been trying since the beginning of the school year to tell you the news of his departure.
Your friendship was before the social media days, nobody had Twitter or Facebook to drop a message. If you lost someone's number, email or home address, you lost them forever. Josh focused on college and strived for almost eight years to do what he wanted, and that was to become a professor. There was something about shaping the minds of tomorrow. He came from a family of educators and army vets. It was either go to college or sign up for the Marines like his father and father before him, and so on. Josh chose education.
His path was paved by his loving mother. He remembered the way she would go on about the subject she taught. Josh was always fascinated with helping people and teaching to the future of tomorrow. He knew the process was long and tedious, but it was what he wanted. Everything was going well...until 2006. Josh hazily remembered the time he was possessed. It happened one day out of the blue while he was on campus, studying like he had been for the past eight tedious years. His entire future was right in front of him—and just like that, it was gone.
He was upset to see all of his scholarships and money from his parents' insurance go to waste after his sudden absence caused him to fail for the year. But Josh found comfort in how his life ended up. All though he had a Masters in teaching and qualified for a job, he didn't want to after he got a taste for the supernatural. He got himself a comfortable apartment just fifteen minutes from where his grandparents lived and worked at a respectable bookstore that covered all his basic necessities. And then some. He reached out a hand to touch the rare book that he wasn’t supposed to even have. His boss was on vacation for a week, she’d never know it was gone.
“That’s honestly...hilarious, and yet sort of creepy.” Josh admitted. He forced himself to smile at what you told him, acting as if you were standing right in front of him when you told him about the alternative universe where you landed yourself in where you and him were actors, engaged to be married. He grimaced even at the thought of being romantically involved with you. “Well, I’m glad you guys are back safe and sound. Try to stay out of trouble, okay?”
"I highly doubt that. Trouble follows us around like a magnet. And then some." You said. You let out a sigh from other end of the line. You were silent for a moment, letting this be the opportunity where he would say to come back in one piece. Josh found himself staring at a picture of his grandparents. Happy, healthy. "Josh? You still there?"
“What—Yeah, yeah.” Josh muttered underneath his breath. He stood straight up in his seat and looked over to the laptop screen when it suddenly went black from the lack of attention. He swiped a finger over the mousepad, bringing life back to the machine. “I’ve just got...a lot on my plate right now. It’s making me a little out of my mind.”
"Are things okay with you?" Your voice changed into concern from what you heard, forgetting all about the story you had called up to tell him. "Are your grandparents all right?"
"They're fine. Don't worry about them, Y/N." Josh lied right through his teeth. He didn't have the heart to tell you about how his grandmother was in hopsic, his grandfather right on his way. It came with old age, but they were his only real family left. So were you. And he was doing a lot of stupid things to keep the people he cared for safe. "Look, I'll let you go. You have a window to fix, right?"
You sounded uneasy letting him go, but he felt relief when the dial tone came after you mumbled a goodbye. Josh dropped his cell phone to the desk and covered his face in his hands. He thought his life turned upside down when he learned about the monsters he watched in black and white horror movies and in novels he read over the covers as a child were real. But that was just a mild taste to what he'd been going through over the past year and a half since you returned back from the dead. Again. Angels, demons—purgatory, None of it made sense when they told him about it. The only thing that caught his attention was the word deal.
Josh dropped his hands back down to the desk and turned his gaze to the laptop screen that displayed information about demons and souls. It told him the process of how one turned into it and creatures that were half demon, but they didn’t tell him a damn thing about how to make one human.
"All play and no work makes Josh a useless boy." Josh flinched at the sound of that arrogant, egotistical accent fill his apartment. He didn't need to turn his head to know that he was here for his check up. He came out of random, the king didn't need a request to pop out of thin air. Josh did it anyway. He was surprised to see that Crowley wasn't alone. Castiel never made an appearance, unless it was more an emergency. "Time's ticking. And I'm not talking about pops."
"I've spent months looking into every dusty book  you gave me and countless hours researching for something that doesn't exist." Josh said. He hastily pushed himself up to his feet, his chair falling to the ground. The demon and angel didn’t flinch. "What the hell am I looking for, exactly?”
"Where you can shove that attitude of yours, mate." Crowley threatened the younger man. Josh decided to play with his odds tonight from the glare he threw at the demon.
“I have an idea of how to solve this problem. It requires one more step. I need a spell in order to make this plan work properly in our favor. It’s heavy black magic that can be found in a book. But it's been lost for centuries. I know from a friend that it's somewhere here in the states. That should help start your search.” Castiel spoke up, stopping the demon from killing the only human they had working up front for them. He wasn't ideal, but Josh was smart and he had a connection to you like the Winchesters had. Which meant he was easy to manipulate into doing whatever they needed. "If you can locate it, I think we have a chance to putting a stop to this once and for all."
"So it could be anywhere in this freaking country? Is that what you’re telling me?” Josh demanded to know from the questions he was throwing to the two creatures. Crowley raises a brow from the tone of voice being used against him. “You can freaking teleport. Hell, why not go to the Winchesters and ask for help?”
"Because those mongols think I’m dead. And we’re going to keep it that way. Besides, they’re working on a side project for us at the moment. And unlike you, we've got prior commitments that demand our full attention." Crowley reminded the man. "I've got Hell to run and Cas here is busy fighting a war in Heaven. It's very tedious work. Why do you think we came to you in the first place?"
Josh could feel his jaw tighten in frustration from the way he was being spoken to. Much as he would love to see the two of these bastards get what they deserved, you and his grandparents were more important to him than anything. "If I do this...You promise me this won't count against me? You'll make sure they're okay?"
“I can only promise if you do as we say and not speak a word of this to anyone else.” Cas said. “Find the spell and we’ll tell you what to do next. If you do, we can get Y/N back to normal. And we can extend your grandparents lives for a little while longer. But that’s only if you help us.”
Josh’s gaze fell to the ground, feeling ashamed at what he was being dragged further into. It sounded nice to say, but he knew it was a lie. He was a willing participant in this mess. Because he was too far in to get out, afraid of what would happen if he said no. Because, most important of all, he wanted you away from this lifestyle for good and miles from those Winchesters. “Fine. Give me a place to start. I’ll leave in an hour.”
You knew you should have said no. Since the morning on the way here, your gut feeling had already told you that you shouldn't have been a smart aleck and agreed to help Wonpil with the Chirstmas decoration.
Now as you sat on his porch in the biting cold cradling your foot, you cursed and swore at yourself.
"What happened?"
"I slipped on some snow and fell. I think I might have twisted something."
Wonpil sat beside you to inspect your ankle and it was swelling by the minute.
"What do we do..."
"I guess I'll just put some ice on this and visit the doctor tomorrow. No one's going to open on Christmas."
Wonpil furrowed his eyebrows in deep thought before lighting up into a grin.
"Ah I know someone!"
Before you could ask who, Wonpil had already whisked you into the passenget seat of his car.
-
"Hyung!"
"Ah Wonpilie! What brings you here?"
The moment you saw who his friend was, your brain went: Oh shit
Standing right in front of you was Brian Kang and you fought the urge to slap Wonpil right there and then. Of all people, he had to bring you to Brain Kang.
Curse your damn luck.
For the longest time now, you've had a crush on Brian. How it all came to be seems stupid in your head but it was the truth. Brian was the resident genius of Wonpil’s group of friends – having been the only one to enter medical school. Between juggling medicine, he still found the time to play bass for the group and when he had time, he’ll play for the school basketball team. Being Wonpil’s friend, you had the privilege of getting to know him on a more personal level and seeing the way he interacts with the boys and the sweet smile meant only for private settings pulled you deeper in than you thought it would.
Also, did you mention that his ridiculously good looks are a bonus?
Basically, Brain Kang was a full package and you had to have a lot of willpower to not fall for that guy. You initially brushed it off as an infatuation but as time went on the feelings didn’t fade – and you eventually resigned yourself to a silent, one-sided love.
Until you got drunk one day and you accidentally revealed your love for him.
You didn’t even know you did it until Brian stared at you with a glint in his eye the next day and Wonpil revealed the whole episode to you. Apparently, you had picked Brian as the guy you would kiss and you even made kissey faces at him. Since then, you had actively avoided Brian at all costs and it didn’t help that he was constantly trying to know you better. You knew he meant no harm but the embarrassment from that incident made you turn tails and run whenever you saw him. Even when Wonpil revealed later on that Brian felt the same way, you still brushed off his comments as ‘silly’ and continued to avoid Brian at all costs.
Until now – where you were in no position to run away.
Brian gave you a knowing glance before directing his attention back to Wonpil.
"You know Y/N right? She twisted her ankle."
"Of course I do. Bring her in." He opened his door a little wider and you hopped in on one foot, all the while cringing a little inside.
Someone save me now.
"Wonpil-ah bring her to the study room."
"Ok!"
When Wonpil placed you down on his study chair, that’s when you decided to punch the poor boy on the shoulder.
With a hushed tone, you hissed at Wonpil.
“Why did you have to bring me here! You know I have history with that guy!”
“God you’re still thinking about that? Come on! I’m sure he’s already forgotten about it and besides, he’s the only doctor I know that will help you on Christmas Day. Cheer up Y/N!”
“When my leg heals you are getting one big whooping kick from me.” As you said that, you watched as the colour drained from Wonpil’s face but thankfully, he was saved by the entrance of Brian.
“Hyung! The Christmas decorations aren’t done yet so I’ll head back home first. Bring Y/N over later ok?”
“Gotcha.”
When Brian turned his back on the door, you drew a slashing line against your neck at Wonpil, who simply smiled sheepishly and darted from the room.
“Let’s take a look at that leg shall we?”
When Brian flashed you a smile as warm as the hearth on Christmas night, it melted the ice around your heart and you braced yourself for the onslaught of sweetness as you warned your brain to not do anything stupid.
Here we go…
-
“So how did you land in this state?”
“I slipped on some ice.”
“And how does Wonpil come into the picture?”
“I was helping him with the Christmas decorations for the party today.”
“Ah… perhaps I should thank the snow and Wonpil.”
“Why?”
“Well, because of them I get to spend time with you like this even though you injuring yourself pains my heart.” And of course, the next most Brian thing to do is throw in a flirty wink; you had to grip the armrest of the chair to make sure you didn’t fall off the chair.
“Brain, stop it.”
“Stop what?” He feigned innocence and gave you one of those sweet smiles that reached his eyes.
“Don’t act dumb. You know what I’m talking about.”
“I’m sorry, what? I can’t hear you.”
It happened so quickly you didn’t even notice until his face was right in front of yours. You could see your shocked face reflected in his bright feline eyes and you could feel his breath fanning over your lips. His hands were clasped over yours, trapping you between him and his chair. Very slowly, his eyes dropped from yours to your lips and slowly he leaned in...
Closer…
Closer…
Until he pulled back in one swift movement and watched in amusement as you opened your eyes.
Damn you Brian Kang.
You watched him chuckle at his little trick on you – knowing that he still has your wrapped around his finger.
“You’re good to go.” Patting your ankle lightly, he stood to leave with his supplies in hand and the moment the door closed shut, you ran your hands through your hair as you let a strangled cry escape your throat.
-
You thought the suffering would end once you were at Wonpil’s house with the rest of the boys around but Brian was still being as obvious as ever. Having a twisted ankle suddenly meant that you’re out of commission and Brian took it upon himself to help you throughout the evening – although you knew that he didn’t do it with pure intentions in mind.
You don’t miss his sideway glances or the way his gaze lingers on you a little longer whenever he walks by you. Plates of food and beverages are passed with fingers brushing afterwards. When he sits beside you, he makes sure to maintain some sort of contact with you – knees are touching or his arm is on the sofa behind you. The constant contact made you squirm a little inside and it wasn’t like you hated it – your heart still was aware of its affection for the man but your mind was screaming otherwise.
“Hyung move! I want to sit beside Y/N!”
“Ok Wonpil, she’s all yours.” Brain then moved to the seat in front of you as Wonpil filled his space and you were glad for the little break your heart was getting.
“Gentlemen and 1 lady, welcome to 2017’s gift exchange segment!” Jae then spread his arms out wide and everyone clapped before Jae turned rabid at the lack of response.
“We shall go in no particular order starting with me.” Jae then bent down to pick the biggest one under the tree, certain that it would the best one around. The boys took turns and finally, we were down to Brian Kang.
“Brian, take the last one.” He then stood and bent down but decided there and then that he wanted something else.
Or rather, someone else.
In two big steps, he stood in front of you before picking up bridal style, announcing something along the lines of “I choose you.”
He then went back to his seat whilst settling you comfortably on his lap as the boys let out a chorus of WOAHHHH
“Brian Kang, just what exactly do you think you are doing?”
“I choose you as my Christmas gift.”
“Excuse you, I’m pretty sure I’m not part of the gift exchange.” You raised an eyebrow at him, and he raised another back at you daringly.
“Well, the rules were pick a gift but they didn’t specify which one.” Another wink came flying your way and this time round, you rolled your eyes without hesitation. Amidst your bickering, both of you were too engrossed in winning the argument to see Jae’s sneaky move.
“Both of you look up.”
Right on top of your hands, in all its glory, was the mistletoe.
And this means…
“We kiss now Y/N.”
And gosh, who could say no when a handsome, sweet man was staring at you like you were the most loving gaze in the world?
“You won’t play me like you did just now, right?”
“I promise I’ll do it for real now.”
As he leaned in closer, you squeezed your eyes shut – waiting for the impact of his lips upon yours.
But none came.
Instead, you felt something soft press against your forehead as the boys jeered in the background, unsatisfied with his forehead kiss. As the boys lost interest and got down to ripping the packaging off the presents, Brian tightened his hold around your waist as he whispered into your ear.
“Are we a couple now?”
“I guess…”
“Great – now you can’t avoid me anymore.”
Jae then let out a squeal of excitement as he held a new Macbook in his hand, courtesy of Wonpil, and that’s when Brian stole another kiss from your cheeks.
“Brian!”
“Can’t help it – also, I’m saving the best for the last. Merry Christmas babe, am I your best gift this year?”
And instead of replying with words, you answered him by kissing him on the lips, beating him as his own game.
