Saw the post calling us "lesbophobes" and just went "Nope!" It's wild that they believe we're against lesbians just because we ship Charlastor and criticize Vaggie, can't people have their own opinions?

Though I do feel slightly responsible for this because of the Vaggie ask I sent you, it's not because I hate her. I hate what the show's writers had done to her and the fandom expects us to praise Chaggie to the high heavens because it's a loving gay relationship and if you say otherwise, they'll shoot you down for it. Like, I get it, with how rare WLW ships are in the Hellaverse in general, you want to clutch onto the only main sapphic couple in the show with an iron grip but straight up calling us "lesbophobes" isn't cutting it. I can't speak for all of us but I will say that I want Chaggie to be better written in the show. It's canon, yes, but it's severely overshadowed by the sheer amount of MLM in there. You want me to care about Vaggie when the writers didn't even care about developing her as a character outside being the princess's partner who doubles as an armor (which is contradictory and unhealthy by the way, but the show made her say and do all that.)

I do want better things for Vaggie. I want to see her grow from being a weapon to being her own person, I want to see her make friends with sinners who accept her for who she is despite her past, I want to see what her hobbies are, what she dreams about, what she wishes to aspire to be and show us WHO she is outside of her duty to Charlie and the hotel. The thing is, the show doesn't give us that and that's why I'm frustrated with the poor execution of Vaggie as a character of her own.

If you hate me for criticizing Vaggie, hate the poor writing of the show. Charlastor is not better than Chaggie and vice versa. We have different tastes and have different backgrounds and we should respect each other. Let's not fight over fictional relationships, they're not real and it's not worth it to hate because hate only makes more problems, not solve them.

I have so many thoughts and also questions about the Alan/Wen relationship so I'm just gonna dump it all here in typical incoherent bullet point style:

First of all I just want to say why do I know these gay people who still live with their ex in real life except they're lesbians agsjdhdjdj mlm/wlw solidarity but in being Messy Bitches I fuckin guess

I'm incredibly interested as to why they haven't told people why they're not together anymore, and also why they have to pretend in front of other people that they're together. I mean it seems pretty significant if even Wen's father who he has a very close relationship to doesn't know the full details of their relationship status, i would think if you had a close relationship with your family they'd be among the first to know about a break up. Gong might know they've split up (I think how nonchalant he was about Wen having a one night stand supports this) but still unclear at this point, maybe he just knows they're having some sort of big conflict or are on a break or something. Maybe there's a social dimension to it? I don't feel i know enough of Thai culture and social conventions to make a confident guess here skdjfskjdf but i would be surprised if there wasn't some sort of reason other than "it's too awkward we don't wanna" - and if there is a reason i'm guessing this is why Wen hasn't been forthcoming about the details of his personal life with Jim, though i really can't guess at this point what that reason might be

so my very first reading of the "i don't love you anymore" "that's a shitty excuse" scene when the trailer dropped was that Wen was maybe trying to break up with Alan but Alan for whatever reason wasn't letting him and you know what i still stand by that or at least like the general sentiment of that. i think it could go either way whether that scene is a flashback (to give context to why they're in such a bad situation now) or present day (to push the development of Wen and Alan's relationship forward); personally i lean toward flashback bc of Wen's emotional state in that scene, he seems much more sad and upset than angry and bitter like he does now with Alan, but i guess we'll find out next week!

I don't have anything resembling an intelligent guess as to what Gong was referring to when he said "you should have asked him if he wanted you to do it" or whatever the phrasing was but I'm guessing whatever happened there is at least a part of the reason why their relationship failed and maybe even a part of the reason why Wen is so cold to Alan now. idk it feels potentially quite big to me, like sure it could have been one isolated incident but based on what we've seen of Alan's character (my guy has some control issues #yikes) it strikes me as possibly being more of a pattern rather than one fuck up though at this point who can really say

Speaking of Gong, I find his friendship with Alan interesting. He claims he doesn't want to take sides or get caught up in the middle of their fight, but I think there are pretty clear signs of whose "side" he's taken: for example in the first episode he doesn't open the message when Alan asks where Wen is so that Alan doesn't know he's seen it and even goes so far as to check with Wen first what he should tell Alan (this does not read as particularly neutral behavior to me, personally); when Alan pointed out they're both friends too and if he really was staying neutral he'd tell Alan what was going on too his response was that Wen was talking with someone and that was all he knew even though he knows they had a one night stand, almost like he went with the bare minimum to get Alan off his back; and his comment at the end of his conversation with Alan of "maybe you should do nothing" felt very pointed esp with accompanying expression. What I'm curious about is why Gong still feels the need to keep up any sort of friendly pretense with Alan. Maybe it's a situation where he knows more than he's supposed to (like if Wen confided in Gong but no one is supposed to know they've broken up for whatever reason)? Or maybe there's some other social dimension to it, idk

Okay so! Some fun canon facts:

Tyland didn't initially have the intention of marrying Elayna! In my head Tyland is bi so like. He kinda figured they could act as each other's cover once he saw her with fem!Aemond and how the two of them interacted. Yes this does mean when they're at each other throats it's mlm and wlw hostility that turns into mlm and wlw solidarity

Elayna and Tyland cannot be together in the same room as Otto. Only one or the other, not both. Mostly because both of them find Otto pretentious, and they will be exchanging looks when Otto says something they think is stupid. Tyland has a little more respect for Otto than Elayna does, but. Not much

Speaking of looks. Since neither of them is big on pda, they've gotten very good at communicating with just a look. Literally they can have conversations by just lifting an eyebrow. Elayna tries to make it a game and see if she can't hold an actual conversation with someone while communicating with Tyland exclusively via facial expressions

Jason hates this btw. Partially because it means someone knows his twin better than him (like that's hard to do) and partially because he's only getting Tyland’s side of the conversation

Tyland’s approach to get Elayna to warm up to him was very much like when you try to get a feral cat to warm up to you. He would steadily start showing up in places she was, and once she got used to his presence he invited her to have lunch with him, which turned into a regular thing

Most of their dates either occur in the library or in the gardens. When they're in the gardens they talk, and a lot of their good ideas come from those long walks where they bounce ideas off each other

Tyland will never admit it but the first time Elayna defended him in front of someone? Hot. And it's not even like the person was particularly nasty, they just asked Elayna why she speaks to him because he seems boring. Elayna didn't tear into the person like she wanted to, but she was Firm so. No one ever asked again

Elayna hasn't necessarily seen/heard Tyland defend her but like. She know he has. He just does it in very subtle ways that like. Unless you know what you're looking for, you're not going to figure out it was Tyland. And Elayna does know what to look out for

Obviously the biggest point of contention in their relationship is Tyland’s family. Not just because Elayna literally hates all of them except for him and Johanna for very valid reasons but also because Tymon, Jason and Tyland’s youngest brother, basically decided he was going to marry Elayna and has not backed down. It's very tense because of this

Tbh there's absolutely a power struggle when it comes to who makes the first move when they realize they're into each other. Because Tyland kinda wants to see if Elayna will crack first but Elayna is determined that Tyland should finally do something himself if he wants her and not manipulate her into making the first move

Both of them absolutely lose their minds when they each have their "oh shit they know me better than anyone else" moments

It's never said outright but like. There's this quiet understanding the plan is for them to stay in KL and not go back to Casterly Rock unless something major changes. And it's for a variety of reasons, not just Elayna not wanting to go back. Like their lives are too tied up in KL, and like. huge shocker - it’s lizzie🥰🥰🥰. i said this in my previous ask on which character i’m most like, and again it’s bc i find her relatable in a way. but other than that i just . idk love her character sm. i love how she tries to act all tough and like her mother but she’s actually just a sweetheart that wants friends and she just misses her mother and her homeland :(. that being said i love her character in the book just a little bit more than the show bc she feels more unhinged and i love it. and u can also properly see her development from wanting to be this isolated powerful queen to finally opening up to others. in the show i feel like it’s such a jump from her screaming Off With Your Head to everything and then spring unsprung she’s suddenly a sweetie that wants to design clothes for her friends. which isn’t necessarily a criticism bc i get that briar helped her realise she doesn’t have to follow her mother exactly, i just prefer how it’s portrayed in the book more. also am obsessed with her character design it’s just . so good.

Listen, there's parts of this that are hard to watch. Bill Maher is here; he says stupid, provocative shit, including some stuff to O'Donnell that's absolutely gross. Christine O'Donnell is an out-and-out Christian nationalist. Clive and Sophie are defending their basic dignity and humanity and O'Donnell is allowed to have the last word, even though the last word is her laughing awkwardly as she fails to find a clobber text in the epistles.

But goddammit do I love watching Clive and Sophie. I love watching them hold each other's hands and bash back at O'Donnell and cackle while they do it. I mean it when I say this is queer history, to me, that this is what I want to be in the world. I want to take off my shoes and hold my siblings' hands and laugh heaven's laughter when they try to make me quiet.

alice in borderland s2 thoughts

just finished s2 so immediate reaction thoughts. i've only watched the netflix series but i do know some manga details from their wiki pages. spoilers obviously

ann and kuina are so gay for each other. we deserved more of them

no seriously like the queen of clubs game?? deserved full coverage of seeing ann and kuina team up and knock everyone out

half of the people that got injured in ep 7 should have realistically bled out and died by the time arisu cleared the queen of hearts

as much as i'm happy ann returned to the real world, it makes no sense. they already showed her dead in the borderlands, meaning she wouldn't have been able to make a choice to stay in borderlands vs return meaning she shouldn't have woken up in the real world

akane and aguni - their scenes together were actually really touching. i didn't expect to like them as much as i did. the way i see it (and taking a quick look around how most people on tumblr see it, although the same can't be said for certain other social media platforms) it's very much a paternal relationship for aguni. for akane, it's ultimately familial but she's got a past of using her body (heavily hinted coercion) and is applying it here to a relationship she genuinely cares about and is mistaking it for romantic/sexual interest

aguni really got developed and humanized this season. half of it was akane, half of it was all the flashbacks/hallucinations with the hatter (aguni is totally gay for the hatter)

akane has a will of steel. girlie really dragged herself around while hugely injured twice. also the scene where aguni reaches out for her when she crawls to him and they both deny citizenship was really sweet

i liked the development in arisu and usagi's relationship. it felt natural and went at a realistic pace imo. i fully admit i squealed during the hot spring scene

i kind of wanted to see chishiya and kuina reunite in the borderlands. i know in the manga chishiya didn't care about kuina at all but in the series it seemed like chishiya did care a little. and kuina definitely cared about him. (tbh i headcanon them as MLM WLW solidarity)

speaking of differences from the manga, i think not including dodo was a missed opportunity. i read about him in between watching ep 6 and ep 7 and thinking of what we could have had with found family aguni-akane-dodo makes me kinda sad

still talking about the manga, i don't think the series relayed the idea of citizens and the current king/queen/jacks being the "victors" of former stages of games well enough. maybe at least one flashback showing kyuma, mira, king of diamonds dude, and king of spades dude all talking to each other about beating their face card games

honestly if netflix really wants to do a cash grab, they can do a prequel series following kyuma, mira, etc first arriving to borderland and how they cleared all their games. i'd watch it lol

Book #111 - Gwen & Art Are Not In Love by Lex Croucher

(oh thank fuck it was good)

ahhh... just a good old cotton candy teeth-rotting bubble bath of a book. I hope that paints a picture, because it is quite possible that that only makes sense in my head. I just really needed this. Something my brain could just relax into and enjoy for a bit.

This book is what I want from my Arthuriana (adjacent) stories. Fluff. Queerness. Adventure. Lesbian sword fights. Gay library dates (is that a thing? I want it to be a thing. I want it to be a thing so very bad.) Crossdressing. Magic(??) pets. Intrigue. Absolutely miraculous survival in the middle of a confusing, messy battle field. A king that is implied to spring gay marriage onto 7th/8th/9th (?) century England.

Art has stolen my heart. The bastard. By that I mean I basically liked all the characters from the beginning, but two thirds through, during something involving Arthur's shenanigans, I also suddenly felt like the book had tricked me into liking them. Get yourself a book that can do both.

It's a feat to have all the major characters be this fucking relatable. (Feels like I'm calling myself out when I say Gabriel hits closest to home for me, but I also don't think that that's especially suprising?)

Also, mlm/wlw solidarity (or in this case animosity turned solidarity) is what I wanted from a fake dating story for literally ages?? I'm so happy. It's so fanfic-y (affectionately), and it's so good!

Btw, could we call the Fake Dating trope (especially this version of it, where it's actually fake all the way and they don't end up together) the inverse of Courtly Love? Idk, maybe something to ask my Medieval English professor next semester...

Wednesday in a QPR for season 2

Okay, this started as an idle thought because someone said that aroace Wednesday would destroy her emotional/social character arc which is just ???

Like first off, you can definitely develop your social skills and how to check in with your emotions by just... making friends. Wednesday staying a single aroace but learning how to make and maintain friendship would still be character development.

But for the sake of the argument let’s pretend that you subscribe to the allo monogamous notion that for everyone there is this one (1) *special* person out there. So let her be in a QPR!!! Is my main argument for this that I finally want QPR representation, especially in mainstream media? Yes, but that doesn’t make it any less important. I  mean is that really too much to ask?

Now, I know Enid is the most prominent choice for Wednesday’s QPR and I hear and support you but may I propose Tyler...? Hear me out:

I know him saying she was sending him signals got some mixed reactions to say the least. But most people at some point deluded themselves into thinking their crush was sending them signals when their crush very much did not. And also, it’s not as if Wednesday sent anyone else non-platonic signals because she’s probably aroace. Add to that Tyler might be aroace himself but in denial so all he knows about romantic/sexual relations is what society and media taught him and the whole situation gets even more confusing

So why Tyler? (let me preface this by saying this is gonna include some self-projection but isn’t that the point?)

It’s very clear that he cares about her and is very intent on clear communication. Wednesday would always know where she stands with him and we know he has the nerve to ask her where he stands with her and is respectful of her boundaries. Which is important in any relationship but especially in a QPR. Also the fact that she kissed him shows that she felt comfortable enough to explore her own limits with him and trusts him to stop when she shows signs of discomfort because his previous actions were proof that he does.

Of course there is the issue of the Hyde but the more I think about it the more adamant I become that this is not his fault. Like he was groomed/manipulated/traumatized so much. We know he did not intentionally start everything and I would not be surprised if he  actually did not enjoy any part of it. But he was told that he did over and over again so he finally deluded himself into believing that because it gave him some sense of control. (honestly, how many groomed ppl during the relationship think that they actually want this only to later realize that they very much did not). Especially given how emotionally vulnerable he was in that entire situation.

But why should Tyler be in a QPR? I’ve stated before (on Twitter) that I believe both Tyler and Wednesday are queer. I don’t care if you call it mlm/wlw solidarity, bi4bi, QPR, ... there’s something fruity going on between these two. Now this is where the self-projection is getting heavy. The whole Hyde thing will probably cause an alienation between Tyler and his body because so much happened to his body that he had absolutely no control. And as someone whose body does a lot of stuff I have no control over because of my physical disability, let me tell you that it makes intimacy with other people complicated to unappealing (now, I have no way of knowing if I’m simply on the ace-spectrum or if sth caused by my anxiety about my temperamental body. But since I’m generally interested in it but then end up worrying myself in a frenzy about my body’s movements during something as simple as a cuddle session even though physical touch is my primary love language I’m leaning towards the latter). So Tyler would also need to be in a relationship with someone who is aware and respectful of his physical boundaries.

And that’s why I think they should be in a QPR together and will now delude myself into thinking that the show is giving us signals that it will happen even though it’s absolutely unrealistic.

My thoughts on Agatha All Along;

I wish they'd developed more actually where Rio and Agatha are at. Like. In the beginning Rio is attacking her, and does she actually want to kill her or just see her? Then it's like, so hard to kill her son, sense that there's still love there, but is she interested in mending things? What is their arc?

Tbh Agatha's and Billy's arc is also messy to me in the end. Like. I get plot twists, but when Billy's gonna sacrifice himself, Agatha could've just let him or not, and then it's weird for Billy to guilt her 2 seconds after he made the decision, and then if she's gonna be like hey remember I'm manipulative, it's weird for her to switch 2 seconds later. I feel like it just didn't quite sell the final piece in her arc of caring about him, cause they're both being manipulative until that moment? Idk

I don't really think I needed to have watched this show but I did enjoy it and that Lillia ep was killer.

Runaways is still a more sapphic Marvel show, sorry. But prob they have more chemistry in Agatha.

This made her wish there was more time to reconcile with Y'sthola. She was surprised by her changes and less than pleased with the pragmatism she spoke to young Minfilia about, but she never said it out of selfishness but a grown sense of responsibility. 💔 An angsty headcanon

I mean there isn’t much more angsty stuff that didn’t happen on the show. He jumped off a fucking cliff when he was twelve! He watched multiple of his friends be murdered by interdimetional monsters! He watched his best friend (who he’s in love with) be possessed! we all know it, but he’s super fucking depressed. Okay so if you want something not actually canon: after the Byers left, he went to Castle Byers to find some comfort in Will’s spot, only to find it completely torn down. He had been so distracted by Will that night when he found him there that he didn’t notice anything had happened to it, but he puts the pieces together. Since the day they left, he had locked himself in his room but had not let himself cry. But when he saw that he just sat in the ruins and broke down.

😭 A headcanon about the worst thing that happened to them.

I lot of bad shit has happened to him, I don’t think I can choose a single defining thing. Some of the worst things though were probably the trauma from his upbringing, especially with Ted, Will being possessed, El “dying” at the end of s1, and the Byers and El leaving Hawkins.

I think the fact that he and Will literally had a guy die in their arms and buried him and didn’t even make a big deal out of it shows just how fucked they are.

🎶 A headcanon about music

oh my god. Where do I even begin? I would say that he loves alt rock, angsty songs that he can be mad about the world to, but secretly crying a little on the inside. I think he would have started listening to Metallica and black sabbath and stuff because of Eddie’s influence, but he sort of doesn’t like the screaming and stuff in it; it reminds him a bit too much of bad times (and of Eddie after his death). He loves Smalltown Boy (obviously), and Boys Don’t Cry. Maybe sometimes late at night he pulls out his walkman and plays Should I Stay or Should I Go. Sure, it reminds him of Will singing it in the Upside Down, but really it brings back memories of all the times Will had broken out into a huge smile when it had come on on the radio, since he was always too shy to ask to play it.

OOH and he loves Queen. He always buys the tapes in secret because of the names his parents call Freddie and the others, but when he listens to their songs he feels things he base t in a long time. Even though he might not realise it, he is drawn towards music about breaking out of societal expectations and about the need to just be yourself.

he is also unintentionally drawn to queer artists (Freddie Mercury, David Bowie, Elton John, etc), maybe because their songs often have those themes of breaking free, maybe because he sees some of himself in them even though he’s not quite sure what.
