Exploring Innovative Designs in Wheelchair Cushions
Wheelchair cushions have undergone significant advancements in recent years, with manufacturers continually striving to develop innovative designs that address the unique needs of wheelchair users. These advancements aim to enhance comfort, promote better posture, and improve overall quality of life for individuals who rely on wheelchairs for mobility. By exploring the latest innovations in wheelchair cushion design, we can gain insight into how these products are evolving to meet the diverse needs of users.
One area of innovation in Wheelchair Cushions design is the development of materials that offer superior pressure relief and support. Traditional cushion materials, such as foam and gel, have been augmented with advanced technologies to provide enhanced comfort and stability. For example, memory foam cushions conform to the user's body shape, distributing pressure evenly and reducing the risk of pressure sores. Similarly, air-filled cushions can be adjusted to provide customized support, allowing users to find the optimal level of comfort and pressure relief.
Another innovative design approach in wheelchair cushions involves the incorporation of ergonomic features that promote proper posture and positioning. Contoured cushions with built-in support for the pelvis and spine help maintain alignment and reduce the risk of postural deviations. Additionally, modular cushion systems allow users to customize their seating configuration based on their individual needs and preferences. These ergonomic designs not only enhance comfort but also contribute to overall health and well-being for wheelchair users.

The Out-of-This-World Origins of Memory Foam: From Space to Your Favorite Bed to Dream
Ever thought if your Mattress is developed by NASA? Actually, it can be.
Once upon a time, in the grand expanse of space, NASA was confronted with a challenge. As the 1960s space race heated up, ensuring the safety and comfort of astronauts during their missions became paramount. The solution to this problem wasnât a high-tech gadget or a fancy spaceship upgrade. It was a foam. Not just any foam, but memory foam. Hereâs how a material designed for the cosmos found itsâŚ

i am so so so fucking happy right now. came back to my house today and saw packages and they were my shower chair that i got for christmas and the wheelchair my friend sent me!!!!! i actually have a wheelchair rn!!! like! omg omg omg. i've just been setting it up and rolling around the house and it's like holy shit. there are so many more things i could do now that i've either had to stop doing or have been doing in a way that wrecked my body. and past month has shown me that i need more support than a cane. like. the thought of maybe not having to crash in bed for three days after protesting. being able to cook some meals on bad days instead of only having energy for meal replacement shakes. being able to go out without worrying about how many seizures i'm going to have and if im going to fall and hit my head or if i'm going to have a seizure in a risky situation in front of the cops. even just the thought of being a tiny bit less fatigued is making me so fucking happy. AND HAVING A SHOWER CHAIR!!!! NO MORE HAVING TO SHOWER SITTING ON THE FLOOR! had a seizure on the bathroom floor this week and just. it's such a huge relief to have this i'm so so so fucking grateful right now.
#personal#chronic illness tag#maybe will share some photos later#getting used to manuvering the wheelchair. how to brake how to turn how to use everything#aaaaaaaaaaaa#can't wait to decorate it also. i am a lover of customizing things#i think i'll sew a cover for the seat cushion as well

i wonder if wheelchair users have different color and style wheels like i have different color and style shoes
#like they still wear shoes but imagine how much fun it would be to customize a wheelchair#like red wheels and stickers on the sides and the cushion is one of those flowery old woman cushions you stole from your grandma's recliner#ive only really seen/heard about regular black and silver wheelchairs which is fine i guess but i think it would be so cool to spice it up#i think you could probably do this to various other accessibility aids too#like posca paint pens and a cane would be so fun#or having multicolored rubber ends on your crutches#or you know that sort of thing#okay now i want to make a disabled oc just so i can draw this#three pigeons in a trench coat

Preparing to travel with a bodhrĂĄn is so funny, because I'm putting inside it anything awkwardly shaped or bulky that won't fit in the suitcase. Currently there's a cushion and a foam muscle roller in there, as well as a few bits of warm clothing as additional padding. I feel like I'm going to get some questions at airport security.
Sidenote: if anyone has any tips for flying with a bodhrĂĄn (hand luggage), I'd love to hear them. It's tunable, so I'm figuring I'll probably de-tune it to minimise how much pressure it's under, but beyond that, there's not a lot I can do to protect it...
#i need the cushion because i am renting a wheelchair at the conference#and rental wheelchairs are not comfortable

everyday i constantly think of masato's wheelchair and if that's his only one/main one no wonder he's so pissed at everyone
#snap chats#someone pointed this out to me like last year so im stealing it sorry cause I Think Of It Constantly#the handling of masato's disability will forever annoy me esp with how vague it is but esp his chair#one day ill draw masato with an appropriate wheelchair. maybe then he'll be happy for once#in a way i guess it could tie into how restricted or trapped he felt since the type of chair he's shown is more like. a hospital one#and not one youd really use as a regular user- like in that vein it is a bit of storytelling in that he can ONLY go out with help#since hospital chairs are SO much different from home chairs ESPECIALLY in regards to mobility and independence the user has#AND NOT TO MENTION HOW UNCOMFORTABLE THOSE CHAIRS ARE get his ass a proper cushion P L E A S E#like it portrays the idea that its unfathomable for him to go anywhere on his own and so in that vein . Interesting Storytelling#theres a lot of implications going on here if im so honest and again it makes for Really Interesting Story Telling#however i refuse to give rgg credit like that when it comes to disabilities. ... they havent earned that from me yet#see this is why the vagueness of his condition annoys me because he's shown to be independent enough to roll himself to his elevator#and presumably get himself dressed but he cant have a proper chair ?#because ik there are people who have expressed they have conditions where even writing is tiring#so if his condition was in-line with that and it was hard for him to push himself in his chair then i could buy it#obviously the issue lies with his lungs but i just want to know the full extent yk...#to wrap this up tho ive been thinking of character design in rgg and how we dont give credit to it enough#sooooo if i make a second post ten minutes from now thats why cause i keep forgetting to spam my thoughts on here LMAO#ok bye

the wheelchair is extremely important to me for a number of reasons, not least of which is how deeply frustrating the one (1) canonical wheelchair we've seen (Amalien's in ESO) is to me. it's just a dining chair/throne model with four(!! that can't be very easy to turn, right??) clunky wheels tacked on the sides. she's on the second floor of a building that only has stairs and is in no way wheelchair accessible. the wheels are positioned so that if she CAN reach them, it would be extremely uncomfortable to do so, so it can't be a self-propelled chair. she doesn't even get a footrest; her feet are on the floor. looking at it for longer than a second it just... does not look like a chair actually designed for motion to people named Mouse who are me!
#Mouse talks!#I am just one person and don't have the resources of a big company. but I have a BUNCH of images of historical wheelchairs saved#that I tried to study and learn from because I WANT it to look believably like a functional mobility aid#that does not rely on other people for use and doesn't mean the user is TRAPPED ON A NON-ACCESSIBLE FLOOR IN TOTAL ISOLATION#and also hopefully is comfortable to sit in for extended periods of time :'|#give it a footrest! and cushions! and the cane holder at the back for semi-ambulatory days -

Madame Cassandra Webb
Info under the cut below, itâs not too much to read:
===
A blind clairvoyant mutant, she uses her abilities to tap into the web of life to help others in need. Her late husband helped to build her a special chair to help keep her healthy and safe, to aid her as her condition worsened, causing her muscles to slowly atrophy. After his passing she had lived a good life appearing to those in need and helping them with her visions.
Her condition soon worsened further and she required extra help, not being able to do it herself, a kind soul she had helped before gave her prosthetics as a gift. The prosthetics are custom made and donât fully allow her limitless mobility, but they do help her to at least stand and move for limited periods of time before needing to sit and rest again. She may be mostly immobile but she has mastered her psychic abilities and can defend herself in other ways that donât require physical effort. Forcing visions upon any threats to make them see a different ârealityâ that persuades them to avoid her location.
Additionally, she does have a custom wheelchair to help her move around more rather than being so limited to where she can go. Similar to her main chair, there are special spots that hook up to her back via a small exposed window in her dress. These wires connect to an apparatus located within the seats of her chairs which is what helps to monitor her overall health and condition.
#my art#phone art#madame web#cassandra webb#spiderman#//long post#I hate drawing chairs so much but I really like how these came out and I am so proud of that wheelchair#don't worry she has plenty of pillows and blankets to help cushion her main seat and make it more comfortable. I just didn't wanna draw it

Friend: Hey, how was it?
Me: Oh, it wasn't too bad at all! *proceeds to tell you the worst fucking thing you've ever heard*
#Froggy's chronic bullshit#Flying with a wheelchair is bad actually#even as kind as people have mostly been I'm so tired#I got assigned all middle seats *by the accessibility coordinator*#I have better randomly assigned seats on this redeye tonight than I had booked the whole time#And there's nowhere to put my cushion?#And even though I can walk and get out of my chair TSA made me do pat downs instead of letting me go through the scanner#They just straight up ignored me even as they were very kind and gentle about doing said patdowns#I didn't even bother to bring any of my braces that made flying really not painful actually because they were so weird about it#Like they've all been really nice! But just... the procedures *suck*#But it also feels shitty to complain

Been thinking a lot more about Adela's story,, I think I'll have to redesign her chair,,,,
#shes canonically self employed. so I think her having a custom chair will have to change#and when looking up chairs built for heavier ppl almost none of them have built in cushions#a folding frame would also be good since she would have to travel for work#every single heavy capacity folding chair I found had armrests. so might add those too#also DAMN wheelchairs r expensive bc how is a basic transport chair going to cost over $1000????#bramblings#idk ignore me

i am loving my new seatbelt... my posture is so much better and i'm not slipping down in my chair as much. hopefully it helps with some of the back issues i've been having!
#so glad i figured out how to mount it!#now both my wheelchairs have seatbelts yaaay#next up on repairs/upgrades:#new tires/tubes & spacers & freewheel parts#and MAYBE if i'm lucky i'll be able to find a used rigid&removable backrest for my folding chair#maybe even a new cushion for it...#n e ways if any of you all have a backrest that would fit a 15w chair......#i've been struggling to find any secondhand bc most chairs are 16w or wider and 16w is usually the narrowest setting for adjustable width#that i've seen at least#and i'm not gonna shell out a ton of money for a chair i only use when traveling or at home when i don't wanna get my rigid one inside#tag rant over
