I recently came across a character analysis about Char and his various relationships which tickled me funny. Why? Because the author of this analysis claimed that Nanai and Char were not in a sexual relationship and that the women he's been involved in were platonic.

I'm making a post about this because this isn't the first time i've come across these opinions amongst the fandom and how Reccoa wanted Quattro's d and that's why she defected to the titans blah blah blah. I've also seen the occasional ''Nanai and Char are not in a sexual relationship'' if you would believe it.

Let's start with Reccoa and Quattro in Zeta:

How does the viewer know that these two are lovers/in a relationship/a couple/ whatever you wish to call it ? Well the director (Tomino) doesn't tell me outright that ''THESE TWO CHARACTERS ARE IN A RELATIONSHIP'' in neon lights. He's not obliged to this. He can do what he wants, so he shows it though character interaction and body language.

Quattro enters Reccoa's room, which is her own personal intimate space mind you. He sits on her bed (again an intimate space), briefly takes off his sunglasses and pulls her to him and hold her hips. Reccoa reciprocates this intimacy by leaning onto him and putting her hands on his shoulders. This, dear people is a depiction of two people who are intimate with each other sexually. The director isn't going to depict someone like Captain Henken or Kamille in this way because neither have that kind of relationship with Reccoa.

Aaaand let's not forget that they kiss after:

Gundam Zeta Define is much more explicit in showing their physical relationship for people who are still under the assumption that it's one sided or that nothing is going on:

'Char' and Nanai in Char's Counteratack;

Again you see the same body language here just like with Reccoa. Touches her hand, holds her by the waist, puts her in his lap etc. Other Zeon soldiers don't act that way towards Nanai or 'Char' and this is a way to show two people who are in a romantic/sexual relationship.

This same scene UC Engage Char's Counterattack is slightly longer than the movie but it's conveying the same thing:

Some things are inferred via tone of voice and body language and some things are explicitly shown and a outright explicit example would be with Flay and Lacus having sex in Gundam Seed which is not really the norm in anime form in Gundam.

So here we are. It doesn't take a genius to figure it out and but i do think there are disingenuous and self centered reasons when it comes to understanding Char's relationships with women. Like i said in this post the male fans/dudebros/incels tend to dislike female character's that act like Reccoa and pretend she's crazy just because Quattro doesn't bed her or you have the female fans/yaoi/fujoshi's who don't like the idea of the fictional male character they are attracted to having a woman love interest.

So my entire point here is that try not to view a piece of media through your own lenses otherwise the analysis/discussion/discourse becomes about headcanons and fanons. It's the story and the characters that are interesting not you. I'm not that interesting tbh.

They didn't speak of the night before, but they honestly didn't have to. Y/n and Price could tell their feelings were mutual, or at least stronger than a typical friendship, but instead they chose to be stopped by an invisible road block.

For y/n it was the feeling of lost time. They weren't young anymore, they didn't have the energy nor time for things like relationships and... well he wasn't sure if Price would want to be stuck with an old fart like himself. Price aged in a way that'd make any man jealous meanwhile y/n? Not so much. He was greying, his bones ached more often than not, he spent half of his time drinking shitty liquor that made his teeth reek, and, as much as he hates to admit it, he's just not handsome anymore. Price deserved to be with someone who still had life to them. Maybe a spunky military gal who could keep him on his toes or private operative with an infinite list of missions to complete. What he didn't need, however, was someone who already had their chance and wasted it. Y/n should've told him just how much Price meant to him, how much he envied the people who got to stay by his side. He should've searched for him, got on his hands and knees and begged to come with. Convince whoever had them separated to change their mind. He didn't care if he still went through the same pain he did when he was alone, if he had to amputate his own damn leg again, or deal with the loss of his parents one more time. As long as he could've done it by Price's side he would've been happy or at the very least satisfied. But that was the past and the current y/n could never catch up to the man Price had become.

However for Price it was guilt. He remembered the days that y/n and him felt invincible. Like every little thing was just a stepping stone in their grand journey to glory. No matter the pain they persevered, found solutions where others would've given up, made names for themselves amongst crowds of soldiers all baring the same purpose. Too bad those names couldn't stop them from being split up, from losing their friends, their families, from being sent all across the world with no way of knowing if the other was even alive. Those names couldn't stop y/n from losing his entire calf... (Price hated that he only knew of his friends injury due a rumor involved with y/n's discharge). Y/n shouldn't even be here, his time in the military was over, he paid his penance, he should be at home watching tv on a leather couch with a beer in hand. Nothing on the mind but whatever sore loser couldn't figure out tonight's Jeopardy categories. But no, Price had to go and drag him out from retirement, right back onto the front lines. Straight back into trouble. Even if he wasn't on the field that didn't mean he was away from risk. His mere association with the 141 planted a target on his back that wouldn’t be removed by simply walking away. Price didn't feel he deserved y/n's affection not when all he ever did was put him in danger.

So they both stayed like that, infinitely stubborn, hellishly avoidant, and not nearly as sly as they thought. The 141 didn't have a full understanding of what was going on between the two, but they could tell there was some unfinished business. Gaz thought maybe one of them slighted the other and neither have taken the step to apologize for it. Soap thought y/n perhaps betrayed Price and that's why he's missing part of his leg. Ghost had... almost the right idea, thinking there was a strange tinge of romantic tension between the two though he assumed it was from something like a love triangle. Maybe y/n and Price loved the same woman and had some unfinished rivalry? Regardless, it was not his problem so much as it didn’t effect the mission.

Laswell however, she knew. She wouldn't have the position she did if information like this just flew past her radar. She knew of their history, she saw how they reacted to one another. Laswell wasn't blind for god's sake, in fact she felt like the only one with eyes at the moment. She wasn't so crass as to demand them to make up and get it over with, but having no one to complain to was definitely testing her patience. Instead she stuck to subtly, casually chatting with Price about y/n and dropping questions in regards to their past missions together and how close they were, hoping to make some wheels turn in his rusted head. She wasn't gonna do more than that however, they were two grown men and if they couldn’t figure it out that was their problem. Could they just be a little more subtle though?

It took until a, quite literally, explosive scenario for them to finally get it together. A bullet had gotten lodged into Price's shoulder after an enemy made a lucky shot. It was far from the worst thing the Captain had faced but it still wasn't great, hurt like a bitch for one. And secondly it seemed to send y/n into a spiral. He was practically fuming when Price got back, going on some sort of rant about hygiene and wound care. Y/n demanded to be the one to dress Price's shoulder with a tone that had the others knowing they were not invited to watch unless they wanted to join in on the incoming lecture. And lecture he did, through the whole process Price could barely get a word in. Y/n paced and raved, threw his arms in the air and even knocked over supplies on accident. He was a complete mess and it wasn't until y/n was literally out breath that the Captain could finally speak.

An explanation of what happened was given, it was just luck (bad luck in regards to Price) that he got hit. This wasn’t overly common and the team knew how to deal with these wounds. Everything was okay, it was going to be fine. This just came with the job, risks were inevitable.

They were quiet, looking at each other and letting the silence permeate the room. Price reached his hand out to touch y/n’s but was caught off guard as the other man suddenly leaned it. Knocking his head against Price’s good shoulder and breathing heavily, y/n shuddered a silent cry. A plead for Price to be safe. Whatever false version of safety he could promise, just please don’t die out there.

The Captain raised his outstretched hand to cup the back of y/n’s head, running a thumb over the stubbled hair. Letting his hand slide to his face and pushing him back just an inch.

Another moment of silence. Hearts beating like rabbits.

“You gonna actually do something or do I-“

Price shut him up as quickly as he could. It was clumsy, a bit shaky, and definitely desperate, but the moment their lips touched it felt like pure ecstatic relief. Relief that this was finally happening, relief that the invisible barrier they built around each other was so weak, but mostly relief that those moments, all those touches and lingering stares weren’t for nothing.

They breathed in each others scent, something they’ve come to know so well and yet in this moment it felt brand new, and infinitely stronger. The spice of a cigar, the sting of sweat, and- oh right, sterile wipes. Price was left to chuckle awkwardly and y/n backed away. Any childish excitement felt would have to wait but at the very least they had this.

I’m still certain zim is physically a child (and prob mentally he acts like one) but age wise and by the speed at which their planet spins is technically sixteen in Irken years.

so he’s been alive for 160+ years but it’s possible considering how weird Irken growth his that he barely grew or even got older that entire time. another couple of giveaways is that he

a) sounds like a pre pubescent child and in the first episode we hear an Irken with a deeper voice who also appears to be taller. this figure, while partially hidden, looks similar to the tallest but obviously is not as high up as they are. The tallest have higher pitched voices than him but Yknow. Men can have high pitched voices. b) he (attempts) to flirt with tak, who at the time was only confirmed to be human and about 11 years old.

It’d be kind of weird if he was an adult.

c) zim acts sounds and Yknow, looks like a child through the entire series. Maybe you can just chalk this down to he’s short but from the pov of me who’s less than five feet and in high school, your face structure can be a dead giveaway about your age. Most people just don’t bother to look down long enough to see.

d) alright let’s talk biology. As we know humans start getting acne around 10-13 years old. now staring again, zim is an ALIEN and they definitely have different skin than humans do but the fact that zim can get acne and from the same source a human can might suggest a bit of a ballpark we can make.

e) “oh um zim is an invader though he’s probably an adult-“ do you see that planet? You think they wouldn’t use child soldiers for sweet, sweet conquest? Have you watched the show?

f) Jhonen Vasquez likes to fuck with the fans. I think we might be taking some statements a little too serious. Also leave the guy alone he made this beautiful show let’s stop harassing him so you can draw your weird yaoi stuff.

my main theory is that:

If you get taller you grow. Irkens could have a completely fucked up growth pattern that relies completely on growing. Who knows. Maybe some Irkens stay children forever (see child soldier note) and maybe some of them grow fast as fuck. this also supports the fact that the tallest went to class with zim but ended up in power. I assume at some point they grew taller, essentially got too old for school, were taken out and treated like royalty (thus explaining why they’re less serious than all the other Irken we’ve seen.)

of course I could be wrong. Whatever you headcanon is your opinion and it’d be unfair of me to push that on you. This is mostly for myself to get my thoughts out cuz I was going so insane I remember what tree bark tasted like (don’t ask.)

What do you think of homelander x starlight ?

For me atleast, I think it's a missed opportunity to develop both of their characters. They have so much parallels going on. I wouldn't say I wanted a full blown romance in s3, but more of a confusion about who is really is the enemy from starlight's side- since homelander is the biggest victim of Vought . And from homelander's side, every women in his life except for maeve have somehow used and taken advantage of him, starlight is the last person who would do that ! He would be really confused that she isn't doing that. She also never knew his horrid past that too.

I don't think homelander is a character who could really be redeemed, he is so long gone for that. But their fake dating arc could have opened so many doors for both of their character development.

I knw I am being delusional enough to think that he is very much obsessed with starlight in s4 as much as he is obsessed with butcher. Like she is his nemesis who stood up against him for godsake idk why the show has watered down her purpose to petty rival with firecracker. Eric kripke is so bad at writing the show Lord 😭✋

Yes, she was watered down without a doubt. And again and again, Billy is given an importance he doesn't really deserve. The whole nemesis thing he has going on with Homelander makes no fucking sense to me. Ryan has no reason to care that much about Butcher. Beyond the fact that Butcher is relentlessly trying to fuck him over, Homelander has no reason to be so obsessed with him either. Narratively speaking, Starlight should be his nemesis, not Butcher.

I actually am such a BIG FAN of Starlander. Weakness by RovingOtter is an amazing fic about them that honestly changed my brain chemestry. Not to mention it's the main reason why I like Homelander so much.

I realize this is an unpopular opinion in the fandom, but I don't think the issue is so much that Homelander is past redemption. It's just that the writers don't want that to happen. The narrative is not going there, even thought THERE ARE elements that would allow it to happen. For example, I don't see Homelander becoming a hero in any capacity, but after all the abuse he was subjected to by humans, he could have easily fallen in a more morally gray area a la Magneto. The writers are just not interested in exploring that because they are all about politics (which I do believe was a direct result of the US elections) and to get their message across Homelander needs to be an irredeemable Big Bad. If they redeemed fucking A-Train and even made Hughie forgive him after *killing Robin and laughing about it*, everyone gets a pass in my opinion though.

Also, it's about the times. You'd find that the main reason why many people don't want Homelander to be redeemed is that he is a rapist. Nowadays that's just unacceptable. Believe or not, back in the 2000s it was something forgivable and sometimes even expected in certain genres (I'm looking at you yaoi). Talking about Western media, I think the most obvious example of this is Spike trying to rape Buffy, his love interest, in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. That wouldn't fly today, lol.

The dubiously consensual (or just uh, not consensual) sex scene or attempted rape between the main couple was also a super common trope in Soap Operas back in the day. Don't mind me I'm Latin American and for a long time I didn't have cable.

Anyway, I'm rambling. My point is Homelander is never going to be redeemed in canon, but as far as fanfiction goes, who cares? It's fiction, and you can do whatever you want with fictional characters. The world is your playground!

Homelander does have some parallels with Starlight, but tbh, that's not really the reason why I ship them. He actually has much more parallels with Kimiko (which is also an amazing ship in my opinion, and it really doesn't get the recognition it deserves!). He also has parallels with Butcher, with Soldier Boy, and even with Frenchie. So that's not really what I look at when shipping.

I think Starlight is the only character who could potentially see anything good or worth saving in Homelander, and just that makes their relationship very interesting to me. The fact that they are archenemies (or they would be, if the show made any sense), is the cherry on top. We love some good enemies-to-lovers here!

I have not finished the episode yet but I've just gotten to the Fukufuku backstory (specifically the part where they just met and its night and they're lying on the floor together) and, these two are fucking dark timeline Renga from sk8! 'The way of the sword is enjoyable!' and 'I'm going to master the sword alongside you' vs 'skating is fun!' and 'I want to skate with you infinitely' I swear Fukuchi even did the same hand movement that Reki did at some point. Energetic sunshine (at least at the moment) x calm and collected. I am getting such strong Renga vibes from that scene and it's driving me insane.

I must say, I don't really have much to say on the Meursault section. It was good! The animation was great as it usually is for the Meursault sections, Sigma was so pretty I love him and! i do make things that other people want me to make, but it feels like thats all ive been doing for a long time, every time i think about drawing i think about posting it later, and while that does bring me something seeing people react and like my art its not a sustainable source for satisfaction, because the more you make the less reactions you get, despite knowing logically everyone likes my stuff, they cant express that everytime, and the joy of showing people my things only lasts for a little bit before i run out and start making something else,

My interpretation is that their gap in status set the tone for their relationship right off. The formality between them eroded over time, but they're both so steeped in Orokin culture that they could never consciously acknowledge and deal with the fucked up parts of their relationship.

Instead Albrecht walls himself off and Loid gaslights himself into thinking he's fine with it, that it's not his place to question Albrecht. I think that WitW is Loid's slow-motion breakdown and it's him being more explicit about his anxiety and fear and dissatisfaction than he had ever, ever been during their active relationship (you ever notice that line he has that's like "don't bother going mad, it's tempting but it won't help"? That line sounds like personal experience, doesn't it?).

And Albrecht really does...

We're all having fun with the old man yaoi so nobody wants to point it out, but do you think that once Albrecht involved Loid in his heretical/illegal research (alchemy, stealing the Archon shards, pirating warframes, etc) Loid ever had an option to leave? To get out of the Murmur insanity?

Loid wouldn't have, of course; he swore to never leave Albrecht way back after the original Void dive. But did he ever actually have the option? What would Albrecht have done to protect his secret crusade? And perhaps more importantly--what does Loid believe Albrecht would have done?

Albrecht makes his decisions and choices unilaterally and Loid is dragged in his wake; this is true of the Void dive, the Cavia, Duviri, and '99 itself.

Loid watched (assisted, even!) Albrecht go back to '99 and purposely Infest people to make them soldiers in his crusade. Loid knows damn fucking well that Albrecht can present a caring facade for the purposes of manipulation.

Of course he'd see all the secrets Albrecht keeps from him, the decisions he's excluded from, and become aware that he's Albrecht's only available co-conspirator and thus a tool Albrecht would make any move to keep. Albrecht needs to keep Loid placated in order to convince him to keep running the other side of the time travel machinery. Loid knows this.

It's my headcanon that Albrecht had never been as explicitly expressive as he is in their final moments with the selectable line; he had never said anything like "my Loid" before. It's a clear reflection of Loid's own endearment for him ("my Albrecht"). So when Loid is left alone to stew after smashing the casket (a period of time that also has him essentially faking his own suicide while also dealing with Albrecht's mourning family)--of course he starts wondering if it was some last-minute telling him what he wants to hear in order to push him over the edge.

It's real easy to leave some fancy dying words behind; you don't have to take responsibility for them. It would have been so easy for Albrecht to just tell Loid whatever Loid wanted to hear in the final moments. It would have been the logical choice, in fact, and Loid has known Albrecht to be logically goal-oriented to a ruthless, bloody degree.

the only way I can rationalize Albrecht and Loid being very clearly into one another but also being stuck at the "what are we" stage is that Loid is convinced himself that Albrecht sees him as some sort of elevated pet (doesn't help that he took Kalymos to 1999 but left Loid behind)

I mean, Albrecht might be One of the Good Ones but he is still an Orokin, so I am pretty sure Loid spent many days and many nights wondering if Albrecht truly care-cares about him. Despite the very obvious intimate turn their relationship took post Void-accident. Yeah, this man embraces you and wants to be close to you, but surely it's just some Orokin quirk... Lord knows Albrecht has poor circulation and Loid is just his human space-heater. (There has to be some level of self-delusion for Loid to mentally put a barrier between them)

Then, centuries or even millennia later, the Tenno forced Loid to come face to face with reality. He is loved, he is cared for and Albrecht made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of their love.

But also think about it - all this time, Loid was convinced he was abandoned without a second thought.

#13: Lore and Huggles Idea: Catatonic psychic girl with a snarky asshole teddy bear that does all the talking for her Story: Experimentals

At least two of these characters are Guilty Gear knockoffs, and Lore is one of them, taking a lot of visual cues from A.B.A.

Lore, younger sister of Sydan, stereotypical waifish psychic girl. She was the first of the two to be experimented on, having her head carved open, pumped with all sorts of chemicals, and run through tests to "help unlock 100% of her brain" (lmao). Meanwhile, for God knows what reason, they cut up her teddy bear, Huggles, equipped it with a homicidal AI and razors on its paws, and sewed it back together with parts from a much angrier looking bear.

When she was returned to their cell, she was completely catatonic, and the bear had begun speaking for her - in a very thick Brooklyn accent. If Huggles was ever removed from Lore's hands, she would immediately lash out with her psychic powers until either the bear was returned or everyone in the vicinity was dead, as a gaggle of random bullies learned the hard way in the first town the party passed through.

Since the story didn't get to the point of any sort of character development wherein Lore came out of general catatonia, I decided to count the two as one. Huggles is a huge asshole, btw, arguably a bigger one than Sydan. Then again, he was programmed that way.

#14: Tiaret Idea: A woman who's going to give birth to something really unfortunate. Story: Experimentals

Tiaret, I unfortunately don't remember too many details about, and I didn't include them in the introductory story; it was probably supposed to be a mystery revealed later. Judging from the stitches, she probably had some sort of arm weaponry implanted.

What I do remember is that she was forcibly impregnated with some sort of critter, not that I remember what the critter was. It was probably some sort of doomsday weapon that they needed her to carry to term. Whatever was done to her, it was awful enough to make the guy who did all of these surgeries, Revenant, reconsider just what the hell HIBAS was doing and convinced him to break Tiaret, Sydan, and Lore out.

Aside from that, she was the obligatory nice girl and conscience of the party. She also ran around in a torn-up surgical gown because ??? Vulnerable???

#15: Dr. Ruusu Revenant Idea: Basically Faust, minus the wackiness. Meaning he's a doctor with a giant scalpel. Story: Experimentals

Revenant had about as much development as Tiaret in the character stakes. He's a doctor at HIBAS who only started to question what they were getting up to when he went to work on Tiaret - no word on whether Tiaret was his first subject or if he just felt bad because he found Tiaret attractive. What matters is that he decided he was going to get Tiaret the hell out of there as penance for what he did to her, and when he found out she wasn't alone in her cell, he decided to bring along her cellmates, Sydan and Lore.

Somehow, he managed to smooth talk all four of them out of the base, and from there, he smuggled them to the closest city with the plans that they'd make their way to the nation's capital, tell them what HIBAS was getting up to, and get the program shut down and all of the other Experimentals rescued. I'm sure it would have turned out that the government was (shocker of shockers) funding the program to build an army of super soldiers, but I only ever wrote the introductory story for them and moved on to something else as I am wont to do.

#16: Lust R. Blackthorn Idea: Baby's First Seme. Also a bodyguard. Story: Luster (based on the album  Black Holes and Revelations by Muse)

So I said Sydan I was my biggest cringe boy, but Lust might give him a run for his money based solely on the fact he's from Baby's First Yaoi Story. Also the fact that his appearance was 95% based on Shiki from Togainu no Chi before I ever had a fucking clue a) what Togainu no Chi was even about and 2) just how fucking awful Shiki is.

Seme McSemename here (who even at the time, I admitted didn't have the most creative name in the world) is a bodyguard for the pop idol Zeros Kamui. Lust is a big ol' slutbag (affectionate) - the man does his work in a goddamn PVC bolero and tight pants - and after Zeros gives him a smooch during a concert (in order to play to his fujo fanbase), Lust decides to go for it after the show.

Now, while I wrote this out, I don't remember probably the most important detail of this scenario: which one of them was drunk when Lust showed up to Zeros's hotel room. It might've been Lust. It might've been Zeros. It might've been both of them. I think it was both. Either way, somebody was drunk when Lust started putting the moves on Zeros.

Lust considered himself a man with a no regrets policy. No matter what happened, he would never regret a single thing he ever did. But apparently, that changed when he discovered he was Zeros's first. He felt kinda bad about that.

Well, to his surprise, Lust falls pretty hard for Zeros, just in time for Zeros to be kidnapped in the middle of a concert by a wealthy fanboy who's obsessed with keeping Zeros as his own personal uke songbird.

I didn't write too much more beyond that, but the general progression was that Lust rescues Zeros, the kidnapper is arrested and/or killed, and happy endings abound.
