-tsukasa decided that today was the day he decided to start using english! He already knew your first language wasn't Japanese, so he learns english with you, even if you speak japanese fluently

-while teaching him, he would have to ask for things in english only, yes he does know a bit of english but, its hard to communicate with such little words no?

-you introduce him to japanese and english dictionaries, flash cards, anything of the sort, even going as far as to make him listen to english songs!

-when asking for something like a ketchup or remote, he would have to say it in english

"Ah, y/n, could you please.. uh.. pass the... The.." he stutters, making some sort of movement in his hands, you know damn well he wanted that ketchup, so why not tease him? "Huh? The salt?" You ask, faking your obliviousness, tsukasa shook his head in frustration, then sighed in defeat. "The.. ケチャップ!!" He exclaims, you sigh, handing him the ketchup bottle. "Its ketchup kasa, but its okay, you got half the sentence right" you giggle.

-once he learned a bit more about the english language, he was getting the hang of it, except for his pronunciation..

-"ehem!" He clears his throat, then exhaled "i, live in a... A... Ru..ruru.." he stumbled, reading a post cards intently. "Rural, back from the top!" You stated, he groans but he knows that mistakes happen at first.

-"okay! I got this..! I, live in a ru... Rur..." He quits, groaning again, "y/n!! You picked the hard one didn't you..?!" He exclaimed dramatically, hugging you by the waist, you chuckle and carefully pushed him away. "Its a simple sentence.. i live in a rural areas ruu-raall" you exclaimed, making sure to emphasize rural "Dont push yourself okay? Theres still time.." you say, turning around to sit on the chair.

-tsukasa read the post card over and over and over until he was sure he's right! She walks up to you, reading the postcard. "I live in a... Ru...rural area! I live! In rural! Areas!!" He exclaimed in a much more louder than before, you got up and started cheering him.

-"hahaha!! Told you y/n! I dont need extra days to learn yknow?! Im like a champion!" He says playfully, you chuckle at his joke "y/n.! My dear, thank you for helping me.. ehem!" He clears his throat, making you face him "y/n! You are a.. beautiful person!" He exclaimed, making you bug eyed.

-"eh?! Since when did you know how to pronounce beautiful..?" You ask, still skeptical but impressed. "I practiced some words on my free time.. my friend said beautiful was both hard and simple.. it was challenging too.." he sighs "but i did it!!" "Yea, yea.. im proud kasa..but please dont yell in my ear.." you winced "oh.. sorry.." he chuckles.

Rui kamishiro

-rui already knew english, in fact he was good at it, so there was no need for teaching.. though he is a bit teasy with his english

-when you when you talk to him in japanese, sometimes he'll randomly speak english.

-"そしてこの犬はずっとボールに向かって吠えていた！私はただボールを取って犬に渡した" you ranted, you see rui have the mischievous grin on his face. "Oh..? At a ball? Thats very silly" he responds, in english, you sigh, knowing he would do something like this.. "really? Do you want me to speak in english or what?" You ask in english "日本人お願いします。" He stated, nodding intently.

-despite being good at english, sometimes rui has a hard time saying english words, sometimes he gets the pronounciation wrong.

-when he does get it wrong, he gets all peeved.. he knows that you'll tease him about it, but if it makes you happy, he'll laugh along.

Akito shinonome

-akito isnt that good at english, nor bad at it? Hes just there.

-ofcourse, you taught him proper english, he's still kind of pissed that he needs to study..

-"ugh.. cant i just speak to you in japanese..?" He groans, looking at the paper in his hand. "Didnt you ask me to teach you english? You cant back out now.. we went this far.." you plead to him, he sighs and reluctantly nods. "Fine.."

-even though he hates studying, he's very eager to learn, he wants to communicate well and to make you proud of him!

-akito takes alot of time when studying, so learning a new language would take wayy too long, but eventually he'll get there

-"Hmm.. say this?" You hand him a flashcard, which says "今日は天気が良さそうだと思いませんか?". "Oh..! Uh.." he clears his throat, analyzing the sentence "do..dont you.. think the.. weather looks nice today..?" He mutters, sounding unsure, his head tilting, looking at you to see your approval. "Hm.. its actually "dont you think the weather is great today?" But i'll let it pass, same meaning" you sigh.

-akito was very happy to know he translated it well.. sure it was a little.. different than the one on the flash card but it still works!

-once he knows english that much, its obvious he would tell his friends first, to flex and all.

-"Thats great shinonome-kun.!" Kohane chirped in, toya smiles proud in akito for actually studying.. an chuckles while exclaiming loudly "haha! Are you gonna speak english for the rest of your life?" She teases, smirking while waiting for a response. "Hello no.!" Akito groaned.

Toya aoyagi

-toya's already good when it comes to english speaking, hes not fluent, but its understandable.

-he would sometimes mispronounce words or get the meaning of the words mixed up, so he was glad to have you by his side.

-he would sometimes ask for you to tutor him english, the complex part of english learning.. he sometimes finds himself enjoying these study sessions..

-once he was good enough at english, he wanted to thank you so he wrote you something..

-it was a love letter, all in perfect english, he knew that it wasnt that big but he wanted you to know how youre teachings are important.

-"I know it isnt much.. but i just want you to know that our study time together paid off.." he mumbled, looking down, once he looked at you, he saw how happy, shocked and gentle you looked, he smiled at you and pulled you into a tight embrace

komori had been completely out of it, staring at you- his childhood best friend that he had brought to his practice today since you were in town. you were talking to suna and washio while everyone else was cleaning up after practice.

“huh, you took showers with her, motoya? so you’ve seen everything?”suna smirked as he finally snapped the libero out of his strange daze. “h-huh? no it’s not like that! we’re just best friends is all!”komori waved his hands around wildly as you let out a laugh at sunas , not so incorrect, assumptions.

sure, in high school the two of you had kissed and slept together — like any good best friends do when they’re both inexperienced obviously — but it had never turned into anything more than that. “awe ‘toya you’re so red! it’s not embarrassing, we showered together all the time!” you giggled as you threw your arms over komori’s neck, giving him a quick peck on the cheek before turning back to the two other players you had been talking to.

after about 20 more minutes of you chatting with suna and washio, with a few of his other teammates stopping by to say hello- everyone was ready to start headed home. you were giving a goodbye hug to washio when suna came up next to komori, elbow resting on his shoulder, “so you’re not thinking about dating her?”the sleepy eyed male asked his libero. “what? n-no,”komori answered, stomach dropping as he looked towards suna. “she’s my best friend, i don’t like her in that way.”but even he wasn’t sure if that was true. “oh, so you wouldn’t mind if i go ahead and get her number? she’s real cute.” and like a good best friend, motoya swallowed the strange feeling in his gut and gave a small nod.

The two of you had returned to komori’s apartment a little later, Komori thinking about what he was going to make for dinner while you were talking about how ‘fun’ it was to meet his teammates. “and suna is real handsome! it’s no wonder i’ve seen a lot of people on social media talk about him!” komori felt that strange feeling in his gut again as you talked about suna, he wasn’t sure what it was- but he knew he didn’t like it. “yeah…he’s probably the most popular guy on our team.”he agreed solemnly as he stepped into the kitchen, finally deciding he was going to make your favorite tonight.

“really? i like watching you more- you’re all over the place!” you laughed, following behind him like a lost puppy. usually, komori didn’t mind being close to you- but the feeling in his stomach made him lose his mind, he wasn’t even sure what he wanted anymore.

while he was lost in his thoughts, you wrapped your arms around his waist,“‘toya…you remember that promise we made when we were little? like how we’d always be together no matter what?”you asked- of course he did, the promise never left his mind. “yeah. we made that pinky promise when you left on vacation when we were like seven.” it was silly now, but back then komori swore by it. he had hardly even hung out with anyone else that entire summer, just waiting by his bedroom window while waiting for your parents car to pull into your driveway.

“i still think it was cute for little kids to make such a serious promise.”you laugh as you look up at him, your big eyes staring at him as he turned to where his front was no longer turned away from you. komori couldn’t help but let out a laugh, “yeah but it was just a—” his words were cut short as you pressed your lips against his.

komori didn’t even have the chance to understand what was going on before you pulled away from him,“sorry! i don’t know what i was thinking! i didn’t mean-” but komori didn’t wanna hear it- both his hands grabbing your cheeks as he leaned down and kissed you. “don’t apologize…”he said in between kisses as his hands slid down to your waist. “been wantin’ this, you don’t even know.” he mumbled against your lips as you whined for more of his kisses.

the two of you were stupid in high school, all the sneaky kisses and shared intimate moments— that wasn’t things that “just friends” did. the feelings komori held for you had never truly left, maybe they were just shoved down in a place that even he didn’t want to open up.

“wait…”komori let out sharp breathes as he rests his nose against your forehead. “suna, he likes you- thinks yer cute.”he breathes out before pulling away from you. He’d never been the one that took what others wanted, he’d spent his whole childhood and high school career in his cousins shadow- and now one of his best friends wanted you in the same way he did. he wasn’t going to crush suna’s dreams and ignore his feelings.

“well i don’t like him like that.”you said simply, hand grasping at his sleeve. “yeah but-” “he’s not you, silly.” and those four words stops him in his tracks. “huh?”as if you didn’t state your feelings in the most obvious ways. “oh my gosh motoya! i love you! how else do you want me to say it?”you let out an exasperated sigh, hand on your hip.

“thank god.” he mumbled as he stepped back towards you, grabbing your face and leaning down to kiss you.

Wind Breaker DVD/BR Vol. 6 bonus content – Boufuurin Vs Shishitoren Maruhi ㊙ Talk and Battle - Part 1

This is the translation of the vol. 6 bonus with the DVD/Bluray! I did not buy it for the bonus. I did buy it because Umemiya is featured on the cover. I have my priorities right.

There's 3 (4?) main parts to this - (1) Boufuurin x Shishitoren talk, (2) Hiiragi x Sako talk + (3) battle, (4) Boufuurin x Shishitoren battle. The battles are kinda hard to understand without the video, so I'll leave that aside for now and focus on just the talks.

As these are more like talk shows, there's quite a few areas where multiple people are talking over each other; in such instances, I will be omitting some of the stuff being said if it's repetitions or if they do not add on to the main stuff being spoken.

Important: A lot of what NakaYuu says will seem very cold/ indifferent on paper, and unfortunately this is one of those things that get lost in translation. In context, he's actually playing the deadpan fool like his pal Sugitan.

Umechan: Gakuran? (t/n: this is the style of school uniforms worn by Boufuurin)

Yuuma: With that, the four of us from Wind Breaker, Shishitouren and Boufuurin will have a talk with each other.

Everyone (i think): Yes!

Yuuma: It's been a while since we've recorded our lines, and I think there'll be lots of memories we'll be reminiscing upon, but in Wind Breaker, there's often talk of speaking with our fists; Nakamura-san and I first joined from the PV, it's been a while, hasn't it? (t/n: They're referring to a special video they recorded for an event in Shibuya in 2021)

NakaYuu: It's a while back, isn't it?

Yuuma: Around 2021, yes.

NakaYuu: About two years before the anime, I think.

Umechan: It's from before the anime?

NakaYuu: Yes yes yes, when you get to our level it's like that. (t/n: this is absolutely dripping in sarcasm fyi; NakaYuu can only get away with a joke like this cos he's the oldest here) You start getting involved even before the anime is announced.

Yuuma: As for the two of you (Shishitoren), you guys auditioned?

Umechan: Yes...

Toya: We auditioned and received our roles.

Yuuma: You two make a great combo, how was it like performing together?

Umechan: It's my first time working with Toya-kun.

Toya: Yes it is.

Umechan: It was really refreshing. The other cast members, I've met them quite often at other places, so I sort of know how things will turn out with them. It's only Toya-kun I don't know anything about.

Toya: For me, it's my first time meeting most of the cast members, I remember that during the first recording I was really really nervous.

Umechan: I didn't know how it would turn out, but he was very Tomiyama-ish.

Yuuma: That's the matching being done (t/n: this might be a mistranslation; he literally uses "matching" in katakana, I'm not sure if there's an alternative meaning I'm missing out.)

NakaYuu: There's difficulty in reading him. (i.e. in reading his character)

Yuuma: Next is the visual commentary part, where we watch the anime while giving comments on it. First up, is this match!

T/N: I'm going to skip some parts and summarise some parts, as it's going to be pretty much impossible to match the dialogue and scene one on one without video

Sakura vs Togame

When Umechan first recorded for Togame, he spoke so slowly he was surprised, and in the end that take was used for the anime. It got easier to speak slowly as he practiced more, but at first he had to make a conscious effort to go slow.

Togame's script also had a lot of markings at the end of words (e.g. dashes), to indicate that the words should be drawn out / spoken slowly.

While filming the fight scenes, they thought quite a lot about what to ad lib and how to draw breaths in between lines. They were told it wasn't necessary to do it for everything, but on the day of recording they decided that they did want to include the ad libs and breaths for the whole thing.

NakaYuu, at the point when Sakura is kicked by Togame with his geta on: Getting kicked by the geta looks bad. (t/n: NO SHIT SHERLOCK)

Umechan: I would've preferred him to wear sneakers, it can absorb the impact a bit.

Yuuma: The geta is really hard.

NakaYuu: Of course it is.

NakaYuu, at the point when Sakura's head is stomped on by Togame with his Geta: That looks bad.

Yuuma: He's a real beast!

Umechan: Everyone, this is fiction.

Yuuma: Please don't try the same thing at home.

Umechan, at the point when Togame took off his geta: If he hadn't taken off his geta, I think he would have won. (t/n: LMAO)

NakaYuu: This is a power down event.

Umechan: His reach is now one geta shorter.

NakaYuui: His reach and power have both dropped. But his grip is stronger now

Umechan: It would've been fine if he hadn't taken it off.

NakaYuu: It's probably cos it feels strange using a weapon when he wants to fight fair and square.

summary: in a quirkless AU, hanta sero and our dear reader find themselves in a fake relationship to ward off exes (toru hagakure & juzo honenuki). maybe they’ll fall in love?

authors note: okay this has been BREWING for the past couple of weeks and i’ve finalized the plot and everything. weekly updates, our lovely class 1A will be aged up to 3rd years, class 1B appreciation alright, reader is part of the dekusquad.

chapter 3: football game disasters

SEPTEMBER

you led the UA school cheer as the crowd waited for the football players to come on out. today’s opening game was against ketsubutsu academy high school. as the cheer ended the football players came out and the crowd cheered.

you caught a glimpse of the todoroki’s and you smiled at shoto. you saw his brother, toya todoroki, throw his arm around his shoulders and talk to him in hushed whispers. you saw shoto shake his head no and toya huffed out and sat next to him with a scowl on his face.

you giggled at the brotherly interaction and averted your eyes to find hanta. you spotted him with your classmates as he cheered with them. “THAT’S MY GIRL!!” izuku yelled out and you turned to ochaco with a big smile. eijiro quickly came over to give mina a kiss and then he was off to start the game.

“hey” you heard and you turned around to see hanta leaning against the railing. you walked over to him and smiled up at him. “came to give you a quick kiss” he hummed as he leaned down to press his lips against yours. you heard a loud groan and turned towards where it came from.

toya todoroki had let out the groan and sat back in his seat, arms crossed like a child. “she’s taken” he grumbled and you were able to catch that. you giggled at toya and shoto only smiled at you.

the game started and you turned to stand with your cheerleaders. miss kayama stood off watching the game with poms of her own in her hands. she sometimes liked to join in with you guys doing the cheers.

she was UA alumni after all. mr. yamada was commentating the game as coach toshinori stood off watching the game and his players intently. coach joke stood off with her players as she watched the game intently as well. why was she named coach joke? you never understood that but whatever works for ketsubutsu.

you and the cheerleaders pumped the crowd up as UA high scored a touchdown thanks to sen kaibara. by halftime the score was 25-20 with UA high leading the win so far. you and the cheerleaders performed your halftime show along with miss kayama of course.

mina and yuga lifted you up as your position was a flyer. you balanced yourself as you smiled and waved at the crowd. they threw you into the air and you did a twirl as they caught you. the crowd cheered upon seeing that until you heard arguing behind you.

“i just need to talk to her man!” you heard and turned to see eijiro, mezo, and katsuki holding off juzo. what the heck, you thought. you turned to look at hanta as the crowd died down to listen to the argument. “what do you simply need to talk to her about man?” katsuki hissed as he extended an arm at your direction.

hanta was able to get onto the field as he pushed you slightly behind him protecting you from juzo. “maybe if you all let me i can get my head in the game. just. let. me. talk. to. her” he hissed at katsuki and eijiro let him go.

he reached you and hanta as you held onto hanta’s hand. “may i speak to her?” he asks politely. i say politely because he really did ask nicely, juzo honenuki was not mean. “hm i dont think you can” hanta said and you looked up at him confused.

“dude please” juzo pleaded as he locked eyes with you. “as her boyfriend i am telling you no” hanta said sternly and you walked out from behind him. “i didnt know you controlled who im allowed to talk to” you scoffed crossing your arms.

“dont you think its a little weird to talk to your ex boyfriend while me, your current boyfriend, is standing here?” he asks as he bends down slightly to meet your eyes. “you have nothing to worry about hanta” you said as you stared into his eyes.

“it’ll be quick dont worry” you assured as he stood up straighter and gave juzo a look. you looked up at juzo and subtly nodded your head to the side to get him to walk with you. “whats up?” you asked nervously looking up at him and then looking down at the turf.

“why was it so sudden?” he asks and you look up. you’ve felt so bad this whole time. you could’ve done things better. all you said to him that day was “were over” and walked off to your moms car. what a bitchy move on your part. “i just wanted to leave as fast as i could” you admitted and looked down at your shoes.

“i could’ve done it better and im sorry i really am” you said looking into his eyes with tears in your own. “i honestly think about that day. how much of a bitch i looked like” you chuckled slightly wiping a tear away before it fell down your face. he lets a small chuckle out too.

“i need to give it a bit more time before i tell you my reasoning but i truly am sorry juzo” you said looking up at him and smiling. “one more thing i kind of caught onto it” he started and he leaned in closer to make sure you two heard it. “just a hunch but this whole thing with hanta is fake right?” he whispers and your eyes widened.

“h-how?” you said in shock as he only shrugged his shoulders. “dont worry i’ll keep it a secret” he whispers and you nod. “hug?” you offered and he nodded leaning in and wrapping his arms around your shoulders.

“friends?” you asked and he nodded confirming that is what he wanted as well. “okay thats enough hands off my girlfriend” hanta said as he slightly pushed juzo off of you. “hanta thats not nice” you hissed at him and juzo only looked at him.

“nah dont worry y/n” he started as he locked eyes with hanta. “i already know your guys’ little secret” he said as he took in hanta’s reaction. “consider your choice of words and actions carefully man or things might slip out with both classes, up to you man” juzo said as he leaned closer to hanta.

juzo walked off with his head clearly in the game and you stared at hanta. “did you tell him?” he asks as his jaw clenched from anger. you immediately shook your head no. “he told me he caught on but he’ll keep it a secret” you said as you looked up at him.

he pulled you in and planted a sweet kiss on your lips as the second half of the game started. “im gonna go back to the others alright?” he says and you nod turning your head to get another kiss.

what a football game, you thought. UA high ended up winning 56-38. you did the last cheer to close out the game. miss kayama and coach toshinori wanted a group picture will the players and cheerleaders. you smiled as you stood inbetween eijiro and mezo and smiled at the camera.

hanta stood off to the side watching you with the biggest smile on his face. “everyone say plus ultra” coach toshinori said as you all cheered out a plus ultra. you were all dismissed to head back to the dorms and you made your way to hanta, who already had your cheer bag with him.

“ready?” he says as you nod and grab his hand and start the walk back to the dorms. “im in need of a shower” you said giggling as hanta helped pull out the bow and ponytail from your hair. “better?” he asks ruffling it out and your scalp instantly thanked you.

“much better” you sighed out in relief. “goodnight y/n” juzo said as he walked into the 3B dorms. “night juzo!” you called out and he saluted you playfully. “buddy buddy with juzo now?” hanta smirked at you and you gave him a light shove as you walked into the 3A dorms.

“not so fast” he grips your wrist as you both stood in the common room. it was dark and most of your classmates had gone to bed already. he pulled you in and cupped your face. he leaned down to give you a kiss and as much as you would’ve accepted it, you couldn’t.

you turned your head to the side and looked down. “im sorry” you whisper and look up at hanta. “did i do something wrong?” he asks and you shook your head no indicating everything was fine. “im just tired” you lied and he only nodded.

he picked up your bag again and walked the both of you over to the elevator. you looked up at hanta as the elevator doors closed and he pressed floor 5. fuck it, you thought and grabbed him by the collar of his sweatshirt to kiss him. he placed his hands on your waist as he backed you up against the wall of the elevator.

you put your arms around his neck and played with the hair tie that holds his hair in a half up half down. you jumped up and he caught you holding you up against the wall and with this new angle you could kiss him properly.

the elevator dinged and you immediately pull away. you blush as hanta puts you down. he smirks down at you and grabs your bag. he doesnt say anything on the walk to your dorm as you trailed behind him in utter shock at your actions.

he leans against your door blocking you from entering. “already falling for me?” he smirks as he gives you the bag. you snatch it from his hands and place it on your shoulder. “heat of the moment” you shrug and he moves to let you open your door.

“you know where my dorm is princess rubbers” he smirks and you roll your eyes. “goodnight” he says placing a kiss on your head and walking away.

“i really thought you and juzo were gonna fight it out on the turf!” denki said loudly as we all waited on mr. yamada for english. you sat with izuku, ochaco, shoto, momo, and tenya as you all discussed the events from over the weekend.

“toru was talking shit” ochaco said as she rolled her eyes. momo looked at ochaco with wide eyes. “such vulgar language ochaco” tenya said and shoto looked unamused. “what its the truth” ochaco shrugs and izuku chuckles and smiles at her.

“about what?” you asked and you turned back to look at toru who was in conversation with mashirao. she took him back? “about you” ochaco said as she leaned in for a mini huddle. you all took the hint and leaned in to listen.

“she was saying how you are going to end up cheating on hanta apparently to get back with juzo and then she was saying she speculates something is already going on between you and sho. all in all she’s essentially calling you a slut” ochaco said in a hushed whisper and you looked at shoto.

“sho and i are just best friends” you smile at him and he gives a half hearted smile and curtly nods. “dont worry toru needs to watch her back” you said shaking your head as you look back at her sending her a glare.

you hated being in a sort of argument with her. you two were inseparable. maybe after all of this the two of you can make up. you’d talk to her later about all of this.

you stormed into hanta’s dorm and slammed it shut. you looked up to see him shirtless and immediately turn away. “its alright to look you know that right?” he says as he throws his shirt off into the dirty hamper. “so came back for what i said the other night?” he smirks and you can tell he’s teasing.

“fortunately i dont have a rubber on me” you smile at him sarcastically and drop it. “just needed to hide” you muttered as you moved to his hammock. “from?” he asks concerned. “mina” you answer as you kick off your shoes and lay down.

“why is that?” he continues as he sits in the chair next to the hammock and stares at you. “she’s asking too many questions about this” you say waving your hands in the air signaling the both of you.

“like?” he pesters and you sigh loudly. “sex hanta!” you exclaim and his face is frozen in shock. “she thinks this has been a thing since the summer” you continue and sigh. hanta sits there staring at the floor. “you can tell her we’ve done it” he says looking at you.

“the thing is” you start and run your hand through your hair. “okay im going to put it out there, im a virgin” you say and get red instantly upon seeing his reaction. “okay” he says gesturing for you to continue.

“if i tell her that she’ll make it into this whole thing and buy me a stupid cake that’ll say something probably stupid like “ma cherry has been popped” when it clearly hasnt hanta!” you say trying to get your point across.

you stare at him and you ask a question you probably shouldnt have asked. you didnt want to know the answer. “have you had sex hanta?” you ask and he looks up at you. he nods his head and you look down at your hands.

“it was one girl” he starts and you look at him briefly before focusing your eyes on your hands. “it wasnt toru” he says putting it out there and you instantly relax at that. “it was a girl from a different course class i think it was class c or d i can’t remember” he says trying to recall.

“i dont talk to her anymore and it was at a party. one night only” he confirms and you nod. “does that bother you?” he asks and you immediately shake your head no.

“hanta a question” you say and play with your hands again. “possible answer” he says and you go for it. “why do you kiss me when were alone?” you ask and he leans back in the chair. he ponders over his answer and the one he comes out with isnt one you want to hear.

“it helps me get into the act more” he says and you can only nod. “how long is this going to go on for?” you ask quietly and he sits in the chair silent. “whenever you want to call it off” he replies back and you nod.

you move to get up and gather your shoes. “nice talk” you mutter as you made your way to the door. “hey are we good?” he asks before you can leave. “mhm” you reply and walk out of his room.

you locked yourself in your room for the past 3 hours. you had showered, changed, and read a few chapters from your book. a knock on your door rips you away from your trance.

you move to open it and see shoto. “hi” you smile at him and he gives you a small one back. “come out please” he says and you nod. you closed your door and walked down with shoto. “i feel like we havent hung out much” shoto admits and your heart sinks.

“im sorry sho i really am” you said looking up at him and interlinking your arm with his as you leaned your head onto his arm. “i’ll try and be a better best friend i promise” you smile and he gives you one back.

you walk into the common room together laughing at something you had said. you look up and see hanta, katsuki, denki, mina, and eijiro on the couch. hanta is spread out as he’s engaged in a conversation with denki.

“hello half and half” katsuki grumbled out and gave shoto a playful look. hanta turned around to see and his eyes landed on yours and shoto’s interlocked arms. “cmon ochaco’s waiting for us” shoto mumbled beginning to drag you with him.

you see hanta’s face drop and he turns around ignoring you. “hold on sho” you stop him and walk over to hanta. you kiss him on the head and he seems to ignore you. you sigh and mutter out a “bye babe” as you walk over to shoto and walk out trailing behind him.

“you and hanta are faking it right?” shoto asks and it catches you off guard. “dont worry i wont tell” he smirks down at you and you nod eagerly. “it was to back off toru and juzo” you mutter admitting it. “i figured” he replies and continues walking.

“i can tell what you feel for him is real though” he says still leading the way and you blush. “what no” you try playing it off but you know shoto isnt dumb. “if i were you i’d confess to him, he seems to reciprocate those feelings back even if you dont notice it yourself” he said and you think back to all those times spent alone.

“i think i want to drag this out just a little longer and then confess” you decide and shoto only nods. “do what you think is right” he says as you guys finally find the group and notice its a picnic that izuku and ochaco set up for all of you. as you sat eating with your friends all you could think about was one thing.

But something's that's true for both of you is that you're total softies at heart

Even if you (lightly) mock Akito for his fear of dogs, you're still quick to take his hand and lead him away if you see one approaching

And if one of Akito's jabs at you cuts a little too deep, he quickly drops it and apologises

The two of you can definitely be tough on each other, but at the end of the day, you do really care about each other.

You never thought you could bring yourself to get tired of two simple words, if it wasnt for your recent boyfriend repeating it like his life depends on it. The first time you heard it was when you tried to give Akito a goodbye kiss on the cheek after spending some time at his place working on a school project. His sister, named Ena, camed home earlier than usual it seems and started teasing him non-stop for being so close to you. He grumbled a bit and asked you to leave because he was worried about you walking home late at night, but also because he couldnt stand his sister close to you two. That’s when you leaned in, but he dodged it, glancing around nervously, probably worried Ena was nearby. You asked him what was wrong, and after some grumbling and hesitation, he finally mumbled it with a slight blush: "Its embarrassing..." You let it slide the first time, and the second time, and the third time, and...yeah, you let it slide a lot. Everything that had to do with public affection its embarrassing for him. A little quick kiss on the cheek? Its embarrassing. Grabbing his hand? Its embarrassing. (And you will see him blushing furiously while frowning- but he isnt really mad!!) Everything that involved affection on public started to be avoided with those two words, and you were getting tired. It was one of those days where you really got tired of it. “doll, what’re you doin’?” dabi rasps. you’re practically choking him with the tightness of the scarf you have wrapped around his neck. it’s not very inconspicuous to be doing this in a bus stop at 11 pm, but he doesn’t mind.

“hmmm? oh, i’m keeping you warm! you cant expect to wear your slutty little costume and not freeze to death.” “my what?” he glares, his eyes piercing into you. “nothing, nevermind.” you giggle as dabi just sighs, tired of your antics.

he looks down, expecting a normal brown or black scarf, but his eyes almost pop out when he sees the bright pink hello kitty one you’ve chosen especially for him. “i’m not fucking wearing this.” he grunts, tugging the cute scarf off. “what? why?” you whine. “i got matching ones for us!” reaching into your bag, you pull out a identical pink scarf.

“please?” “no.” “pretty please?” “no.” “pretty pretty please?” you beg, putting on your best puppy eyes for him. “…no.” you continue to beg him for the next ten minutes, but he doesn’t budge. it feels like he’s taunting you, and it’s driving you insane.

“fine. sorry for wanting to actually act like a fucking couple for once.” you huff, turning away from him. you stomp out of the tiny bus station, forgetting about the snowy storm outside. the freezing snow instantly stings your cheeks, and it’s so cold outside, your flimsy jacket isn’t of any use. internally cursing at the world, you keep ignoring it until a warm hand pulls you to a muscular figure.

the frame is large, and it wraps around you. the person’s body is cozy and comfortable, and you melt right into it. your eyelashes flutter for a couple of minutes until you realize you’re cuddling with a random stranger in the middle of the night.

“oh shit, sorry sir, i have a boyfrie-” you look up, only to see a familiar head of black hair. “toya?” his eyes don’t quite meet yours, instead looking off to the side. oh. he’s wearing the scarf. you feel your heart combust as you break off into a giddy grin. “you wore it just for me?” you softly speak, but he doesn’t answer you, choosing to pull you closer into him. normally you would’ve been satisfied with that, but today, you feel like teasing him.

“hey.” you poke his cheek, pouting slightly. “look at me.” when he doesn’t respond, you pull his face out of your neck and cup his jaw. his lips are jutted out, his cheeks are dusted pink, and you don’t think he’s ever looked so soft. in that moment, it feels like time has frozen, and you can’t think of anything to say. the snow is still falling, and the air is still frosty, but your heart has never been so warm.

after a while of standing there, you break the comfortable silence in the most dabi way possible. “awww, are you blushing?” “fuck off, it’s just the cold air.”

English Pronoun Use for Mizuki

*Disclaimer: Since making this post, I've found a lot of counterexamples with Ena using 'they' for Mizuki without a plausible linguistic reason, and not one other time where anyone uses 'she' for her. But, I worked really hard on this post and I still like it, so I'm leaving it up.

As we all know, the members of N25 don't know Mizuki's secret. They've been working with her so long under the impression that of course Mizuki's a girl, that when they meet her for the first time they don't think twice about it.

However, Mizuki's classmates all know her secret, and the gossip and negative attention is what drives Mizuki to chronincally skip school. To some extent, they know about her because of the rumors, but it's also something people meeting her for the first time pick up on, too.

In Mizuki Side Story: Nightcord at 25:00, Part 2, we see a student who's never met Mizuki interact with her for the first time and become disgusted.

In Kamiyama High Festival, Episode 1, we see Kohane meeting Mizuki for the first time. While Kohane is shy around new people, and while she may be getting second thoughts if her day with An means spending time with a stranger, we do see two things in this interaction that mean that the gender interpretation can't simply be written-off.

One is that Mizuki picking up on Kohane getting nervous about her as a trans girl fits cleanly into the event story's core arc. It opens with Mizuki wanting to stay home to avoid more negative attention, An treating Mizuki as a friend and inviting her accommodating for her secret, Mizuki reflecting on her bond with Rui as being the same as Tsukasa helping Toya take agency over his life at the expense of others' expectations, and ending with her and Rui reflecting on their loner days together and how far they've come since then. Narratively then, it is Mizuki's secret that drives her to run away after seeing Kohane's reaction to meeting her.

The second thing, is the choice of English pronoun used for what Kohane says. Mizuki had already introduced herself by first and last name by this point.

Originally, I thought it was a translation challenge; Japanese can freely omit pronouns and has a lot of expression between first name, last name, and honorifics. But, the writers using they/them for Mizuki isn't because it's their default, and it isn't because it's what's most diplomatic or correct for her, it's because it's used to indicate whether the person speaking knows her secret.

In Secret Distance, Episode 6, Mizuki, Ena, and Kanade split up to find Mafuyu after she runs off hearing Mizuki tell the story of the haunted school, of a gifted girl with too much pressure taking her own life. Mizuki searches for Mafuyu in SEKAI but it turns out the other two found Mafuyu quickly and were searching for Mizuki. This is Ena's English dialogue using she/her to refer to Mizuki. One very important detail we know today, is that Ena does not know Mizuki's secret.

In Nightcord at 25:00, Episode 9, we learn how what Mafuyu said, that each of the others secretly want to disappear, is true for Mizuki. The harmful gossip and rumors refer to her with they/them.

However, it isn't the case that they/them in the English dialogue is used for Mizuki when people are saying hurtful things. It's used simply for when the person knows her secret. Rui is the person most in Mizuki's corner, who was there with her at the beginning and helped her to change, and he also refers to Mizuki that way in his English dialogue, in Kamiyama High Festival, Episode 5.

Ena not knowing Mizuki's secret and using she/her for her, with everyone who does know her secret using they/them, regardless of their intent, means that pronoun choice in the English dialogue is a deliberate tool the writers use for telling Mizuki's story.
