#what is the average life of a diesel engine

There's two reasons to do a cross-brand engine swap: because you're cheap, or because you're filled with spite. I am, of course, both. For years, forum people have become enraged from literally any prospect of putting a Dodge motor in a Chevy, or vice versa. Such an act is sacrilege. It taints the noble purity of the Chevrolet race, and its meticulous assembly by a group of guys who were high as hell on synthetic drugs and kept forgetting which way to bolt the windshield on. I really like making those folks, in particular, very mad.
To leverage my disgusting amounts of knowledge about everything automotive in the pursuit of "those things probably shouldn't go together" is basically the pinnacle of excitement. Why not jam a Rolls-Royce geared high-bypass turbofan from a 747 into a Jaguar XJ6? Does it even fit? How long can you run it for before it snaps your tack-welded motor mounts off the frame and starts flying down the expressway, clobbering Bronco Sports and blasting tollbooths into a fine mist of wood powder?
Of course, as with everything else in my life, I have to be pragmatic. What really drives me to do these swaps is the fact that I have a large collection of motors lying around, and I don't care too much what it says on the valve cover before underhand-lobbing it into the nightmare project that I need to drive to work tomorrow. Making people mad is just a bonus, even if it is a really good one. Soviet diesel engine it is. I'll run it on kerosene, that'll really show Diesel Ivan at the gas station.
Does the average person care, though? Does it impress them? No. I stopped explaining myself to them years ago. They don't think it's weird at all that a Plymouth could hold a Ford engine. In fact, they are surprised that it was ever the opposite case. They're just engines, right? Plymouth got them from the engine store, same as Ford.
In fact, the more we talk about this competition-of-swaps, the stranger it seems to my rational side that I have embarked upon a campaign of harassing the very same folks who could empathize with my odd hobby the most. Just don't ask a professional to psychoanalyze me. Those folks get real competitive when they find a weird thinkin' problem, too, and then I have to crawl out of my therapist's office while they exchange gunfire before I can get to my car and escape. Good reason to swap in a faster engine, come to think of it.

Basic Engine Headcanons:
Engines, coaches, trucks, etc are products that are made by Lady, the sole goddess and creator of Sodor and its living machinery. Their life source is a special kind of dust called "Gold Dust" which can turn any inanimate machine into a living and breathing entity.
Living machinery are called "Gold Dust Lifeforms" and they can switch between two forms: The Gold Dust Form and The Human Form.
The Gold Dust Form refers to a Gold Dust Lifeform's original form like a steam engine, express coach, rolling stock.
The Human Form refers to a Gold Dust Lifeform humanoid appearance. Usually in the Human Form, their skin are grey and are much taller than a regular sized human.
In addition, Gold Dust Lifeforms don't need to eat anything in order to survive, they just do it for pleasure. However steam engines in particular, feel full of energy whenever they drink water. The engines' strength are 75% of their Gold Dust Form but are still extremely strong. Like, breaking limbs or throwing somebody into the sky is very easy for them. They're also super fast and their senses are more advanced than the average human.
However the Gold Dust Lifeforms' sense of taste is very interesting.
Steam engines for instance can taste sweetness, saltiness, bitterness, savoriness and especially sourness. They can't taste spiciness though and can't tell the difference between normal foods and spicy foods.
Diesels can taste sweetness, saltiness, savoriness and spiciness. But they can't taste sourness or bitterness. Unfortunately they can't eat sugar because it can cause them to break down and feel sick. Some diesels like Phillip and Diesel insist on eating them though. (That is literally a death wish you two are having)
Electric engines' sense of taste is extremely concentrated for some reason so they have to be careful about what they're putting in their food. They can taste all five tastes.
Coaches, rolling stock, trucks, etc's sense of taste is extremely diluted and when they eat food, it tastes bland or unappetizing. So they have to put lots of condiments to combat their poor taste buds.
Any bad coal, water, fuel, etc can make engines extremely ill and sick. They may start puking, feeling nauseous or dizzy or feel fatigued. This can affect both forms so it's important to check your engine's source of energy.

What’s your robots powered by usually? Do they have alternative power sources?
This was a really great question that made me ramble WAY more than I was expecting to, so apologies for the resulting wall, aha.
(also, for some context, ancient refers to a time closer to our own future, roughly 23rd century, and modern refers to the present era set an incredibly long time later)
The great majority of robots primarily rely on storing electricity through some form of replaceable, rechargeable batteries, with modern robots in my setting having generally pretty large batteries. It's been found to be generally easier to just have a simple recharge port or wireless capacity or fuel intake or whatever, rather than an oversized power receiver. The average robot has a 12-24hr power cycle that often takes the role of a circadian rhythm, so things like wirelessly charging beds and food-adjacent "snacks" as quick sources of charging aren't uncommon!
As for actually generating that electricity too, it comes from a variety of sources, primarily from an ancient Dyson sphere/swarm. It's currently in poor shape with no easy means to repair, however, so many other sources are used just in case it fails, anything ranging from nuclear to hydroelectric to anomaly exploitation. Robots will make use of whatever power sources they can!
It's not uncommon to find battery-powered robots that also incorporate renewable technologies into their own bodies as an auxiliary source, like solar panels or wind turbines or even food processors, depending on where they live. Larger robotic creatures, humanoid or otherwise- and many biomechanical ones too- are especially likely to do this to compensate for greatly increased energy consumption!
Oil and other non-renewables are fairly uncommon due to their harmful byproducts and, to a larger extent, their increased scarcity, having long since been drained pretty heavily in ancient times; what's since been replenished of them mostly finds better uses elsewhere, like in recyclable plastics. There are some robots that do still choose to run on combustion engines, diesel generators, and other such technologies for various personal reasons, however!
Finally, there are also many robots that're a bit weirder about it- for example, nanomorphs like my oc Ashlii! As a species, they are often almost entirely passively powered, since their body consists of independently powered nanites and a small, efficient core that can typically siphon more than enough power from its swarm. There's also ancient robots like Dualynn, who possess similar power systems to modern bots- primarily using batteries- but use certain technologies that have just been lost to time; for example, they have advanced internal generators that can somehow greatly increase the efficiency of batteries, meaning they can use considerably smaller ones without issue. There are also many robots, like Ana and other reverse cyborgs, that incorporate heavy biological elements and so actually require food and nutrients alongside their normal needs; similarly, as most biological life has evolved to be heavily biomechanical (such as Homo novus, descendants of humans) that also require both food and nutrients as well as electricity, metal, or other strange food sources!
Again, apologies for the wall but this just proved to be a question I had a lot to say about, thank you so so much for it!

Plans to Open a Cleaner Fuel Station: Elevating Fuel Quality with XSNANO The future of fuel. In a world increasingly focused on sustainability and environmental responsibility, the demand for cleaner, more efficient energy sources has never been higher. Addressing this need, plans are underway to launch a new kind of fuel station—one that takes a bold step forward in reducing emissions and improving fuel efficiency for both diesel and petrol vehicles. The key to this transformation? Incorporating XSNANO, a cutting-edge fuel additive, directly into the fuel tanks at the station. A New Era of Fuel Stations Traditional fuel stations have long been the cornerstone of our transportation infrastructure, providing the fuel that powers our cars, trucks, and fleets. However, as concerns about air pollution, fuel consumption, and environmental impact continue to grow, the industry must evolve. This new cleaner fuel station will represent a forward-thinking approach, combining the convenience of traditional fuel services with the benefits of advanced fuel technology. Why XSNANO? XSNANO is not just any fuel additive—it’s a revolutionary product that uses nanotechnology to enhance fuel quality and performance at a fundamental level. By integrating XSNANO into the fuel supply at the station, every litre of petrol or diesel dispensed will be optimized for better combustion, lower emissions, and improved engine performance. Here’s how XSNANO transforms the fueling experience: Cleaner Combustion: XSNANO’s nanotechnology ensures that fuel burns more completely in the engine, which means fewer harmful emissions are released into the atmosphere. This is especially critical for diesel engines, which are often associated with higher levels of particulate emissions. Enhanced Fuel Efficiency: Vehicles refuelled with XSNANO-enhanced fuel will enjoy greater fuel efficiency. This means drivers can go further on each tank of fuel, reducing both fuel costs and the frequency of refuelling stops. Reduced Engine Wear: By minimizing friction and internal wear, XSNANO helps to protect the engine’s components. This leads to longer engine life, fewer breakdowns, and reduced maintenance costs—benefits that appeal to both everyday drivers and businesses managing vehicle fleets. Eco-Friendly Solution: In today’s environmentally conscious market, reducing carbon footprints is a priority. XSNANO makes it easier for drivers to contribute to a cleaner planet by lowering the emissions produced by their vehicles, without the need to switch to alternative fuels or technologies. What to Expect at the New Station When you drive up to this new cleaner fuel station, you’ll notice that it looks much like any other modern fuel station—convenient, efficient, and designed to meet the needs of drivers. However, behind the scenes, each fuel pump is connected to tanks pre-mixed with XSNANO. For drivers, this means that every time you fill up, you’re not just getting fuel; you’re getting a high-performance, eco-friendly solution that benefits your vehicle and the environment. The station will offer both petrol and diesel options, all of which are enhanced with XSNANO to ensure maximum performance and minimal environmental impact. Benefits for Businesses and Consumers This will give motorists the option to buy "Cleaner Fuel" and do their part in reducing emissions without the expense of buying a new vehicle. For Businesses: Fleet operators and commercial drivers will see significant benefits from fueling up at this station. Improved fuel efficiency translates directly to cost savings, while reduced engine wear lowers maintenance expenses. Additionally, lower emissions can help businesses meet environmental regulations and sustainability goals. For Everyday Drivers: The average driver will appreciate the immediate improvements in fuel efficiency and engine performance. Whether you’re commuting to work or embarking on a road trip, you’ll enjoy a smoother ride and the peace of mind that comes with reducing your environmental impact. The Future of Fueling The opening of a cleaner fuel station will mark the beginning of a new chapter in the fueling industry. By leveraging the power of XSNANO, this station not only meets the needs of today’s drivers but also anticipates the demands of a greener, more sustainable future. As more stations adopt this approach, we can expect to see a significant reduction in vehicle emissions and a shift towards more efficient, cost-effective fueling solutions. This innovative station is just the first step in what promises to be a widespread transformation in how we power our vehicles. Conclusion Launching a cleaner fuel station featuring XSNANO-enhanced fuels will represent a significant advancement in the quest for more sustainable transportation. By improving fuel efficiency, reducing emissions, and extending engine life, this new station can offer a smart, responsible choice for businesses and everyday drivers. As we move toward a future where environmental responsibility is paramount, fueling up with XSNANO is a step in the right direction. At present concerned customers can add XSNANO to their fuel manually, this new approach can make it easier to get results. An oil-free diesel air compressor is a type of air compressor that is powered by a diesel engine and does not use oil for lubrication in the compression chamber. Instead, this oil free air compressor uses pre-lubricated materials or special coatings to reduce friction. This design ensures the compressed air is free from oil contamination, making it suitable for applications where clean air is crucial, such as in medical, food processing, and electronics industries. Despite being diesel-powered, the oil free air compressor for sale is environmentally friendly due to the absence of oil vapor emissions.
What Is The Life Expectancy Of An Oil Free Diesel Air Compressor?
The life expectancy of an oil-free air compressor can vary greatly depending on several factors such as the quality of the oil free air compressor for sale, how often it’s used, and how well it’s maintained. On average, a well-maintained oil-free diesel air compressor can last between 10 to 15 years. However, it’s important to note that the oil free air compressor for sale tends to have a shorter lifespan than oil-lubricated models due to the increased wear and tear on their components. Regular maintenance, including cleaning and replacing parts as necessary, can significantly extend the life of an oil-free air compressor.
How Do You Maintain An Oil Free Air Compressor?
Maintaining an oil-free air compressor involves several steps. Firstly, regularly clean the intake vents to ensure optimal airflow and prevent dust accumulation. Secondly, drain the air tank after each use to remove any condensation, as moisture can cause rust and damage over time. Thirdly, check and clean or replace air filters as needed to maintain efficiency and prevent damage to the motor. Fourthly, regularly inspect the safety release valve to ensure it’s functioning correctly. Lastly, keep the exterior of the oil free diesel air compressor clean and store it in a dry, clean environment to prevent dust accumulation and moisture damage. Regular maintenance can significantly extend the oil free high pressure air compressor’s lifespan.

6 Best Semi Truck Brands for a New Owner Operator - ELD Mandate
The FTR Transportation Intelligence has estimated that 483,093 Class 8 (heavy-duty trucks) were sold in North America in 2018. For an owner-operator planning to start a trucking company, having a good truck is vital. The prospect of buying a new truck can be exciting as well as exhausting. With many different makes and models available in the market, it can be a task to decide which semi truck brand will be the best for a new owner operator. There is no universal choice that will suit all owner-operators. In this aspect, one size does not fit all. Finding the perfect truck depends on a number of factors.
Owning a truck can be a large investment. Thus, the decision has to look to the future. The truck should give solid service to the trucking company for at least a few years. The lifespan of an average truck is 10-12 years, but many owners do not keep a truck for that long. A truck is traditionally used for 5-6 years or 600,000 miles on average for long haul service. Most big trucking companies replace existing trucks with newer models after 3 years. They do this in an attempt to attract new drivers and retain old ones. This can help the trucking company to retain reliability, while keeping maintenance costs down. An average diesel truck generally comes with a warranty of 250,000 miles or 2 years. This warranty can be extended to 4-5 years or 500,000 miles. Generally, major trucking companies sell trucks when they have run for 400,000 to 600,000 miles. These used trucks are usually sent to the market where smaller companies/owner-operators buy them. The smaller trucking companies use these trucks until major maintenance is required. Most trucks can run for about 1,000,000 miles before major engine work is needed. This may vary depending on the make and model. If trucks are maintained diligently, they can run for a life-time. But that does require constant replacement of parts. The first truck can also be very special for many. Thus, it can be useful to weigh all options to find the perfect truck.
A understanding of what the owner-operator intends to do with the trucking company is important. A vision of the company will help in deciding on the right truck to start a trucking company with. Some of the many factors is what type of hauls the trucking company intends to undertake. Most trucks are categorized according to the hauls they do. A trucking company that plans to do short-hauls or daily hauls will not need a heavy-duty truck with a sleeper. While, a trucking company which plans to do long-hauls cannot operate with a simple truck. It’s cab has to be well equipped with a sleeper among other requirements. This will ensure that the truck driver can rest comfortably inside the truck so that hotels are not required each night. Also, for long haul trucks deciding a truck manufacturing company that offers prompt and reliable technical and mechanical support can reduce stress for the driver/owner. Read more on all the other things that are required to start a trucking business in 2020.
Here are the best truck brands for a new owner operator starting a trucking business:
KENWORTH
History
Kenworth Trucking Company was established in 1923. It was named after the surnames of the owners—Harry. W. Kent and Edgar K. Worthington. However, its journey began years before. In 1912, the brothers George and Louis Gerlinger established Gerlinger Motor Car Works in Portland, Oregon. It was a car and truck dealership. In 1915, they had introduced their own truck, Gersix. It was steel framed and had the power of an in-line six-cylinder engine. Having this type of engine was a first for any commercial vehicle. It was ideal for logging. In 1916, the company relocated to Tacoma in Washington. It then came to the notice of Edgar K. Washington, a Seattle based businessman. He bought the company in 1917 along with his business partner Captain Frederick Kent. The company was renamed to Gersix Motor Company. Captain Kent retired from the company in 1919 and his son Harry became the new partner. In 1923, the Gersix Motor Co. was reincorporated to Kenworth, by joining ‘Ken’ and ‘Worth’. Kenworth was bought by The Pacific Car and Foundry Company (PACCAR) in 1945.
Brief Timeline of Vehicles for Kenworth
Kenworth is one of the oldest truck manufacturing companies of America. It was also the first company to install diesel engines in their vehicles in 1933. In 1936, they introduced their first sleeper cabs. In 1976, Kenworth incorporated a raised roof aerodyne sleeper which was a first in the industry. It set the new standard for driver comfort. In 1985, the T600 was launched which was the first aerodynamically enhanced semi-truck. It could run 10 miles per gallon. The subsequent launch of T660 further enhanced the line of vehicles from Kenworth. 2012 saw the launch of T680 boasting an incredibly smooth drive, better fuel economy, and advanced aerodynamics. The vocational truck, W990 was launched in the market in 2018.
Stardom
Kenworth trucks also got featured on the silver screen. In 1977, Smokey and the Bandit featured the W900. James Bond also drove the W900B in License to Kill, released in 1989. To commemorate this brush with stardom, Kenworth launched the 007 Limited Edition of W900L in 2015.
Why should a new trucking company consider Kenworth?
Even though PACCAR bought Kenworth, it continued to manufacture great models in the name of Kenworth. As a consequence, Kenworth’s heavy-duty trucks have been in the market for more than 70 years. There are many reasons why a Kenworth truck can be great to start a trucking company with:
It has decades’ worth of experience- It is very important for a new trucking company to trust the company for such an important purchase. Along with all the technological know-how, relying on an experienced truck manufacturing company is an added bonus.
Uses latest technology- Kenworth trucks use the latest applications and computer technologies to ensure a hassle-free drive. Kenworth’s advanced navigational system allows truck drivers to use Google applications. The navigational system is quite easy to use. It has an interface which is very similar to that of an Android device.
Comfortable interiors- The Kenworth trucks took the industry by the storm when they introduced sleeper cabs in 1936. Since then they have added to the driver comfort segment. Their cabs are roomy and spacious which makes the driver feel more comfortable. The raised roof in the on-highway trucks ensure that truck drivers can move more freely inside the cab. Having a spacious interior allows a driver to keep appliances like refrigerators and microwaves. Their W900 and T680 models are great favorites among seasoned truck drivers.
PACCAR Powertrain- Kenworth trucks use the PACCAR Powertrain. The PACCAR MX Engines are light in weight but extremely heavy-duty. This offers a B10 life of 1,000,000 miles. The purpose-built automatic transmission makes life on the road easier as well. PACCAR promises that their axles are the lightest in the industry. This ensures movement of loads in less effort.
Customizable options- Kenworth’s trucks can handle almost any sort of job. They have a variety of trucks, from medium-duty to heavy-duty. Their trucks cater to a shipping company as well as a construction company dealing with heavy loads. However, a trucking company can get models customized to suit its own unique requirements. Kenworth’s Bodybuilder can help trucking companies get customized models. This will be a huge plus for a new trucking company which has very specific requirements.
Web-based tracking of problems and help centers- Drivers using Kenworth trucks can get to know the source of any mechanical or technical problem with the vehicle. Moreover, drivers do not have to hunt around for help centers. They can easily navigate to the nearest help center with the help of a the Kenworth app. With 700 dealerships all across North America, help is usually close by.
Best Kenworth model for an owner operator to consider?
Kenworth W900 above
Among the different models Kenworth has launched, the most preferred are the W900 and the T680. W990 was introduced in 2018 and is considered to be a sibling of W900. Most seasoned truck drivers like the Kenworth W900 Studio Sleeper. It is considered to be an ultimate long haul truck. It has a sleeper bunk of 86 inches. It has 565 horsepower and 1,854 lbs of torque. It is powerful and efficient. It’s customizable options also add to its popularity. It boasts an 18-speed transmission. The interior is roomy and comfortable. However, there are certain cons which have to be taken into consideration as well. For a new trucking company with a limited budget, W900’s can be quite expensive. For a new W900L with a 72-inch sleeper, the price is around $164,040. A W900L non-sleeper is priced around $151,451. Apart from the price factor, Kenworth W900 is quite difficult for new truck drivers to drive. In terms of the mechanism, it takes quite a bit of time for a newcomer to learn everything. Also, it is not very fuel economic with 5.0 miles per gallon. The overall weight of the W900L is quite a lot, especially with the studio sleeper model, which can be a negative for some drivers.
The next truck brand to consider for an owner operator is Volvo.
Volvo
History
The Volvo automobile company was founded by Assar Gabrielsson and Gustaf Larson in Sweden in 1924. ‘Volvo’ means “I roll” in Latin. Gabrielsson was the economic and marketing man and Larson was the skilled mechanic. The first Volvo truck was built in Sweden in 1928. Volvo entered the American truck market with the launch of Volvo Titan, Volvo Starke and Volvo Viking in 1959. By the mid-1970s, through Volvo of American Corp., Volvo had established itself as an integral part of the American trucking industry. Volvo purchased some of the assets of White Motor Corp in 1981 and formed the Volvo White Truck Corp. The vehicles of Volvo White were sold under the nameplates of Volvo, White and Autocar. This gave Volvo not only truck assets but also White’s pan-American distribution network since until 1977, White was the distributer of Freightliner. Volvo solidified their presence in the American trucking market by entering into a joint venture with General Motors Corp in 1988. This led to the forming of the Volvo GM Heavy Truck Corp. The company’s name was changed to Volvo Trucks North America after Volvo bought all the shares of General Motors in Volvo GM.
Brief Timeline of Vehicles for Volvo
The most popular Volvo trucks are the VNR, VNL, VNX, VHD and VAH series. Coming a long way since its initial days, in 2011 Volvo had launched XE13, the fuel-saving powertrain package. Also in 2011, Volvo began the production of VNM models which can run on natural gas. In 2013, Volvo introduced the VNX heavy-haul models. In the same year Volvo made Volvo I-Shift. It has automated manual transmission which is the standard on all the models powered by Volvo now. Volvo’s North American Headquarters is in Greensboro. All Volvo VNM, VNL, VNX, VHD and VAH trucks are assembled in America. It is done at the New River Valley Plant in Dublin, Virginia. The engines are assembled in Hagerstown, and Maryland.
Why should a new trucking company consider Volvo?
Volvo is one of the largest truck manufacturing companies in the world. There are plenty of reasons why a new owner operator can opt for a Volvo truck:
Superior cab amenities- Volvo trucks have given a lot of attention to improving their cab’s interior. This ensures that the truck can become a home away from home for long haul drivers. With improved sleeping arrangements and spacious interiors, drivers will be less likely to feel claustrophobic. Some models have an adjustable steering wheel option. The steering wheel can be adjusted according to the height of the driver. It also has a tilt-neck option that ensures comfortable drives. The interior is also well insulated so that energy is conserved and distractions are reduced.
Table and chair set up in the interior- Volvo sleepers have the intelligent facility of a convertible table/bed set. That is, the top of the table can be lowered to make the bed’s platform. The trucks also have a table and chair set up. This makes it possible for drivers to change the concept of taking rest. Earlier, rest meant lying down. But with the ‘table and chair’ set up, a driver can sit up and watch something on their phone or have the perfect dining room set-up. This multi-functionality adds to the comfort of the truck.
Customizable interiors- Volvo does not believe that one type of truck will suit all driving needs. Volvo customizes their trucks’ interiors according to the specific requirements of the trucking company. Every trucking company's needs are unique and accordingly the layout of the interior has to be designed. This customizable option further allows the operators and owners to design the perfect fit for a new trucking business.
Intelligent features- The improved air suspension on the cabs makes driving extremely comfortable. The aerodynamic design also contributes to superior driving comfort. The improved LED lights promise better visibility and less maintenance. The cabs’ height is such that drivers can be more comfortable.
Improved Engine - The Volvo engines are light-weight and fuel efficient. They are designed and engineered in a way that reliability is improved. This also minimizes the cost of ongoing operation for the truck driver.
Benefits of I-Shift transmission- The I-Shift transmission makes driving easier as it helps the driver adjust the way their trucks accelerate. It has a 2,300 lbs-torque rating. This technology helps to save fuel as it gives the optimal gear shift based on the engine load, speed of the truck, and other factors.
Safety of Remote Diagnostics- Volvo’s Remote Diagnostic ensures the safety of the driver whenever on the road. Wherever the driver may be or whatever the problem, many issues can be sorted out by the facility of the Remote Diagnostics. Through the Windows-based app called PTT or Premium Tech Tool, a driver can diagnose the problems. The driver can test, calibrate and program the engine limits. This hardware connects the truck to the PC of the driver via an e-media center.
Easy to maneuver- Volvo trucks are said to be easy to maneuver and as a result are easy to drive. This is especially helpful when drivers enter urban areas for a delivery.
Easy to drive- Similar to the comment above. According to many truck drivers, Volvo trucks are easy to drive for a new driver.
Environmentally friendly- Volvo offers the option of natural gas fueling in most new trucks. Volvo is moving towards alternative trucking and fueling options. This ensures lower carbon emissions of trucks.
Volvo has a worldwide well-knit dealership network- An owner operator driving a Volvo truck will have access to worldwide dealerships for maintenance and upkeep of the truck. This is a bonus for drivers hauling international load. With the support of a well-knit dealership network across the globe, a truck driver will not have to worry about keeping spares or different accessories.
Best Volvo truck model for a new trucking company
Volvo VNL 760
The most popular Volvo trucks are the VNR and VNL models. The VNR models, launched in 2017, suit both the day trucker as well as the long haul trucker. The VNR 300 is an efficient and lightweight day cab. It’s short, sloped hood provides the truck driver a great view of the road ahead while making way through a crowded and congested work area. The VNR 400, a 42-inch flat-roof sleeper is best suited for overnight regional hauls where the height of the cab is an added advantage. In this model, an efficient sleeper is added as well. This allows a driver to easily drive out from busy loading sites or in time for industrial deliveries. The VNR 640 is a 61-inch mid-roof sleeper that is best suited for drivers who have to stay away from home for long stretches of time. It has extra space for relaxing and enough storage so that the living area of the cab looks nothing short of a mini-bedroom. The VNR and VNL models are run on the Volvo D11 and Volvo D13 engines. The D11 has an initial 325 hp and can move up to 425 hp at 1,550 lb-feet torque. Volvo D13 has twelve different power ratings, from 375 to 500 hp.
The VNL series offers further luxury and technical convenience to truck drivers. Launched in 2019, it is the latest Volvo has to offer. Volvo, in believing the fact that when drivers sleep better they work better, has made truck driving extremely comfortable. The VNL 760 is very spacious. It is also convenient for team driving. A driver of 6 feet 2 inches can easily sleep in the lower bunk. A driver of the same height will be able to sit up straight in the upper bunk with a lot of head room left. It has the Reefer seat with a refrigerator compartment just below it so that it is very easy for a driver to take out snacks and drinks. The modular cup holders allow cups and bottles of all width to be held.
Operators looking at a truck exclusively for heavy-hauls can opt for the VNX series. It is especially suited for long combination vehicles, logging and heavy equipment transport. The VNX series vehicles are available with up to 605 hp and a torque of 2,050 lb-feet. It has the Cummins X15 engine with a manual transmission or an Eaton UltraShift Plus.
One downside is that Volvo truck parts are quite expensive and sometimes they are hard to get as they have to be shipped from Europe. Expensive accessories that have to be shipped from Europe take a lot of time, which makes some truckers impatient.
The 2020 Volvo VNL64T860 costs around $151,521.
The next truck brand for an owner operator is the Freightligner.
FREIGHTLINER
History
David Hames, one of the former employees of the Freightliner trucks, says that Freightliner was started by an actual customer. This customer couldn’t find the truck that he wanted for making his business as profitable as it actually should be. It was observed in the 1930s that most heavy trucks lacked sufficient power to go up the steep grades in the western United States. It is then that the Consolidated Freightways, a traditional unionized carrier company, decided to produce their own trucks. Later, the company was named Freightliner Corp. Hence, Freightliners was a customer oriented company that wanted to do what nobody at the time did. The first model hit the roads in 1942. One of its creations, CabRoller, had one of the first sleeper cabs in the trucking industry. In May, 1981, it sold its manufacturing business and the Freightliner brand to Daimler-Benz. Daimler-Benz gave Freightliner Corp the stability that it needed at the time. It has now become a truck manufacturing company with more than 75 years of experience. According to the technical team of Freightliner, they use technology that is more common sense and market oriented. Cascadia, freightliner’s flagship highway tractor and its most popular model till date, was launched in 2007.
Brief Timeline of Vehicles for Freightliner
Initially, Freightliner produced ‘cab-over-engine’ trucks and later on launched consolidated trucks. The first consolidated Freightliner truck, FLC-120, was introduced in 1974. It had aluminum hoods to reduce weight. The updated FLC model was released in 1984. It was featured with integrated headlights, updated interiors and set-back axle models. It was a medium conventional truck with a bumper to back length of 112 inches. Interestingly, it had the cab of the then just launched Mercedes-Benz LK. This shows that Daimler had a role in the design and manufacturing of the truck. Freightliner’s FLD models were their first-ever aerodynamic models. In 1987, the Freightliner launched the FLD-112 and FLD-120. It was an all-aluminum body. It became the bestselling truck in North America. In 1990, the FLD Classic was released which was loved by many conventional truckers of the time. Freightliner launched the FLD Raised Roof Sleeper in 1992. It had what is today known as raised condo roof, which is an integrated stand-up sleeper. It was simply unthinkable and unheard of at that time. In the following year, FLD Classic XL with a 132 inches bumper to back body was launched. It gave stiff competition to Peterbilt 379 and Kenworth W900. However, the sales of FLD models gradually fell. In 2007, Freightliner launched Cascadia, its most popular model. It is aerodynamic and fuel-efficient due to its EPA engine. Its interior is quite roomy and is quieter than the previous Freightliner trucks by 2-6 db. It has fewer operating costs. It saved 20% drag and fuel costs.
Stardom
Freightliner trucks also had a brush with stardom. The FLD Classic XL got featured in films and TV shows like Disturbia, Tenacious D: The Pick of Destiny, The Dukes of Hazzard, and Forensic files.
Why should a new trucking company consider buying the truck brand Freightliner?

Best Freightliner model an owner operator can consider
Cascadia 2019
Experienced truck drivers believe that Freightliner used to make some of the best trucks. Freightliner is not currently experiencing its best day. However, the Cascadia 2019 model can be a good choice for truck drivers who want to buy from a home-brand.
PETERBILT
History
Peterbilt was founded when it was realised that a truck of advanced engineering was required to work in the Northwestern forests. The transportation of cut trees from the forests to the mills was an exhausting process that took a lot of time. T. A. Peterman, the lumber tycoon decided that a heavy-duty vehicle was required to do the transportation job in shorter time and in an efficient way. Peterman purchased Fageol Motors, a failed Oakland-based company in 1938. He used its equipment to build custom truck chassis. He named the company after his own name. The first Peterbilt truck came out in 1939. Peterman launched models 334 and 260. They both had all-steel cabs. During WWII, Peterbilt served the country with its model 364. In 1944 Peterman passed away and his wife sold the company to its seven managers. In 1958, PACCAR (previously known as Pacific Car & Foundry) bought Peterbilt from its managers. PACCAR continued to produce trucks in the name of the parent company. This year, Peterbilt is celebrating its 80th anniversary.
Brief Timeline of Vehicles for Peterbilt
As mentioned above, Peterman built Model 334 and Model 260. Also, in WWII, Model 364 was built to serve the country. After WWII came to an end and the handover of the company was sorted out, Model 351 was launched in 1951. Around this time, the red and oval Peterbilt logo was designed and incorporated in all trucks. Model 351 enjoyed the longest production in the history of Peterbilt. Peterbilt began to transform its design with regards to innovation around the 1960s with the introduction of Model 352. It had a 900 tilt and an aluminum UniLite cab. The signature Peterbilt bird hood ornament was made a part of all the trucks with this model. In 1967, Model 359 was introduced which further enhanced the position of Peterbilt in the truck market. The Model 348 had given a keen emphasis on driver comfort with its spacious walk-through sleeper and a sloped fibre-glass hood. The Model 362 introduced the popular cab-over-hood design. In 1986, Peterbilt introduced to the trucking community its most iconic truck till date - the Model 379. It is also the most popular owner-operator truck in history. It is considered a trucking industry legend. In the shore-truck circuit, it is the most dominated vehicle. In the 1990s, Peterbilt wanted to expand further. It entered the medium duty truck market in 1995 with the Model 330. In 1998, the integrated cab and sleeper vehicle with an aerodynamic design, the Model 387 was launched. Mack trucks have a long and eventful history of 119 years. Jack and Gus Mack started Mack Trucks in 1900 in Brooklyn, New York. Together, they bought Fallesen & Berry - the carriage building company they used to work at. The first Mack vehicle, a sightseeing bus powered by an engine was launched in 1900. In 1902, the Mack Brothers Company was born. In 1911, the Mack Brothers Company merged with Sauer Motor Company, and formed the International Motor Company (IMC).
During WWI, about 4,500 Mack AC trucks were used. The British government bought 50 units of the Mack AC model to transport troops, equipment, and food. In 1917, Mack trucks got the nickname Bulldog Mack by British soldiers. The Mack truck reminded the soldiers of the British Bulldog due to its blunt-nose like hood and its durability. Hence, the bulldog became the company’s first corporate trademark. The U.S. army also made the Mack AC a 5-ton army truck. The present name, Mack Trucks, Inc. was taken in 1922. In WWII, Mack further helped America’s cause by building 4,600 powertrains for M3 Stewart and M4 Sherman tanks. It also built 26,000 six-wheel trucks and 4,500 5-ton four-wheel trucks. They also transported troops and other wartime supplies. In 1943, the body of a DC-3 aircraft was hauled by two Mack trucks from Houston to Dallas. The drive was over a distance of 340 miles. At that time, this haul was considered to be the widest and largest road haul. Mack trucks enjoyed large growth over the years. In 1979, Mack Trucks entered into an alliance with Renault. This agreement gave Mack access to the North American distribution of Renault’s medium-duty diesel trucks. 10% of Mack’s equity share was sold to Renault. Mack faced a number of harsh years in the 1980s. Volvo took over Mack Trucks in 2000, the centenary year for Mack. Since then, the production and assembling of all Mack vehicles have been shifted to the plant in Lower Macungie Township.

INTERNATIONAL
History
J.P. Morgan took the step to merge McCormick Harvesting Machine Company, Deering Harvester Company and three smaller agricultural equipment firms to form International Harvester in 1902. Most of International Harvester’s agricultural division was sold to Tenneco, Inc in 1985 and the following year the remaining portion was named Navistar International Corporation. Navistar International Corporation is more commonly known as International, which specializes in building on-highway, medium-duty and severe duty trucks.
Brief Timeline of Vehicles for International
The international line of trucks specialized in agricultural vehicles ever since inception. With the formation of Navistar International Corporation, the tag of ‘Harvester’ was removed. Along with many on-highway, medium duty and severe-duty trucks, pick-up trucks were also built by the International brand. It had stopped producing Scout, an off-road vehicle which began its days as a competitor to Jeep and was later replaced by the SUVs, in 1980. International marketed the International Extreme Truck Series (popularly known as the XT series). XT series trucks were produced from 2004-2008. The XT series trucks were discontinued as the sales had dropped lower than expected. The medium-duty, International TerraStar was first produced in 2010 and was discontinued in 2015. It was the smallest conventional truck produced by Navistar. The International DuraStar was originally named the International 4000 series. It was first launched in 2001 and in 2019 it was re-launched as International MV. The International LoneStar, one of the most luxurious trucks running at present and one of International’s most popular trucks has four variants: the standard LoneStar model called LoneStar, a truck without the sleeper section called the LoneStar Daycab, the model designed by Harley-Davidson called the LoneStar Harley, and LoneStar Recovery which is the tow truck LoneStar.
Why should a new trucking business consider buying an International Truck?
Fuel efficiency- With their special MPG Package, International trucks offer owner operators greater fuel efficiency.

According to the researchers of Carnegie Mellon College of Engineering, an electric truck may not be very suitable for a long-haul truck. It has estimated that the weight of an electric truck will be upwards of 25,000 lbs. An all-electric truck with a heavy battery will only be suitable for short or medium hauls.
A heavy battery can take up as much as one-third of the total payload. This will make it incapable of carrying heavier loads.
The long-term ownership and maintenance cost of an electric truck cannot be determined as Tesla has not stated how long the first-installed batteries will last and what the replacement cost is thereafter.
Cost of a Tesla Semi
As announced by Elon Musk in November, 2017, the price of a 300-mile range Tesla Semi will be $150,000 and the 500-mile range will cost around $180,000. The Founders’ Series Semi will be offered by the company at a price of $200,000.

{Episode ?, part 1, Kyanite is a useful gem}
Kyanite felt cross today, watching everyone pass by. How glorious they all seemed, their colours, their cuts, their hardness levels...all of what they were seemed to be woefully lost on him. He was a little blue gem of a 5 mohs hardness, which meant for him that he was not a gem strong enough to go out into battle, or patrols, or do anything very special with all of his friends. He thought himself a pitiably average gemstone with no special qualities to make him stand out like the rest. Kyanite was cross, indeed. He looked upon his own kind with jealousy, wishing that he were only more like them. "Ohh, what a lamentable fate I have...! Being made a small five when I know I can do so much more! I am a great gem, I know this! Yet...whatever can I do to prove it?" he thought to himself. "Now what's all this I hear, Kyanite?" A proud voice called out to him. It was Red Zircon, one of the most splendid gemstones of the island. He was much stronger than Kyanite, and it was but one of the many things that he boasted about to anyone who would listen; Zircon was also a rare gem, even among the other rare gems. Kyanite turned to see Red Zircon, and was taken aback by how stunning he looked. But then, he always looked so stunning in the light; as a brilliant red gem with a unique mixture of black stone in his body - he didn't recall what kind it was - and a pure red pattern along his long, slender, perfect legs. Red Zircon was one of the best gems around for a number of reasons, and he bloody well knew it too. With a flip of his shimmering, feathered, red gemstone hair, he questioned Kyanite. "You? A great gem who can do so much more? Good to hear you're reaching for the stars above, but...that's going to be awfully hard to accomplish as such a small and pitiably frail little gem, now don't you think?" Red Zircon said to him with an equally playful and condescending tone, with an amused smirk to go with it.
Kyanite gave a stern look at him. He would not stand for such slander! He got up to meet him face to face...which was a bit of a challenge as Red Zircon was taller than him, on top of it. And Kyanite always felt so embarassed at looking an exemplary gemstone in the eyes; something about their glow was too blinding to him. This was something that personally ground Kyanite's gears as well; for a long time, he had always hoped that gems were capable of growing up to be tall and strong, as he did not like how small he was...but Pink Tourmaline had to tell him the bad news that he would be stuck at not only the strength and colour, but the height he was formed with for his whole life. Only their leader, Lady Gold, had the ability to change her height; though not often, it was but one of the incredible things she could do. Poor Kyanite found himself quite envious of these perfect gems, blessed with the things he could only long for, and so he used that spite to drive his message forward to Red Zircon. "Now l-listen here, Zircon! I didn't intend for you to be eavesdropping on me. And furthermore, you ought to be believing me instead of scoffing!" Zircon backed off a bit and said, "Oh ho ho! Oh, little Kyanite, there's no need for those sharp edges!" In our human vernacular, it would be like he was saying 'no need to show your fangs'. "I didn't mean to insult, you know that." Kyanite was thrown off momentarily at this shift. He was unsure, and still a bit miffed at him. "Oh no? You didn't...?" He replied, "Why, of course not. Wouldn't dream of it!" This left Kyan changing his mood a bit, wondering if maybe he was overreacting somehow? He brought his manners out instead. "Oh...um, well, okay..."
Red Zircon continued, "I've heard you go on and on for quite a while about your lamentable state, you know. All I was really doing was pointing out your - if you'll forgive me and I'm sure you will - glaringly obvious shortcomings, to remind you of what you're truly fighting against. That being...yourself." He finished his line with a dramatic, controlled, emphasizing pointing, right at Kyanite's round little nose. He got the hint right away, and was left to feel miffed all over again. "...O-oh. I see. And is that supposed to make me feel better over my situation, then?" He glumly questioned the taller gem, arms crossed. Zircon thought briefly and replied, "Um, I don't think so? I couldn't possibly imagine anyone who would be happy about their failings! Good grief, how bizarre would that be?" Kyanite's emotional state was worsening with each remark that came from Red Zircon, and he tried his best to hold back his snippiness...to a limited success. His arms were still crossed as he asked, "Well in that case...Zircon, don't suppose you could stop rubbing it in my face for a moment, and tell me if you know of any way I can overcome my...shortcomings, as you say?" Admittedly, Kyanite was embarrassed at himself for drawing blanks, plan-wise. As frustrated as he was, he genuinely did not know what to do, which is why he was seeking help in the first place. Zircon brought his finger to his cheek as he went into thinking of how to answer Kyanite. "Hmm...my my my, that's a tough question. I mean, where to begin? Perhaps at your cut? Your hardness along with that? Your drab colours? Your height? Your clothing style? Your attitude? Your overall mood? Your entire personality? Your--?" At hearing all of this...cruel opinion onslaught, Kyanite was very shocked and indignant. He did NOT like to get so raked in this way, and wanted no more of it! Quite desperately, he interrupted the other's comments. "Okay! Okay! Stop that, y-you...!!" Zircon secretly delighted in knowing how riled up he could make the smaller gem. Unfair, yet he thought it a fun game all the same, so he continued on. "Oh, my, yes...we'd have to have a complete overhaul of you. Each category is abysmally lacking, as you are now."
Kyanite absolutely hated this, as he looked at Red Zircon with such a struggled, strained and defeated expression. The poor little gem had had enough. What is this?! He wanted help, not to feel so personally attacked; and over everything he couldn't possibly know how to change! He wanted so badly to just snap his fingers, make Zircon go away, and make all of these problems get instantly fixed, like that. Now he went from royally pissed off to depressed, and definitely too insulted to even find the words to get back at the red gem. But that was finally, finally when Red Zircon noticed that perhaps he really was going too far, seeing little Kyanite almost ready to release tears. Red Zircon’s eyes went from lazy to widened, like that. He didn't actually want to do this to the other gem! He only thought it was a bit of cheeky banter and nothing serious...but the one he was chatting with reacted in a way that certainly indicated otherwise. Collecting himself from his self-induced shame, Red Zircon used his hand to gingerly bring Kyanite's face to see his, and very smoothly added, "...But, in the matters of cut and hardness, there may yet be hope for you. I know of a very simple solution to that!"
Kyanite lit up at that last sentence, seeing that Red Zircon was genuinely sorry for what he was doing and really was trying to be helpful. "...Ah! Yes?! What might that be?" "Oh ho ho ho! Why, silly little Kyanite, have you forgotten already? When you assisted me in getting back to the Shed after that nasty accident? I was fixed up with pure red zircon crystal so that I look better than ever before!" He made a little pose with his legs, for emphasis. “And I can move around at unmatchable speeds too! I can simply do it all now~!" But just before he went on a tangent about himself and all of his best qualities...Red Zircon caught himself and kept to the point. "And so that is the solution I see fit for you, Kyanite. Reconstructive surgery. You should figure out how to be rebuilt into a grander gem! Simple, isn't it~?"
Kyanite considered Red Zircon's idea, and slowly, it became very enticing indeed. "Why, yes...! Of course! Reconstructive surgery! Why didn't I think of that?!" Right in the midst of his pleasant imaginings, and the promise of his dream having a way to come true, Kyan had a sudden epiphany or two enter his mind that apparently put a new damper on the whole. He went from being greatly enthusiastic, to hesitant and doubtful. "...Aah, no, wait. You make it all sound so simple, yes, but...how do I go about this?" Red Zircon gave Kyanite an incredulous look. "Eh? What do you mean 'how do you go about this'?" Where was this coming from? Kyanite did his best to explain. "I mean, isn't there a whole process to it? Like...um...for instance, how do I find the right gemstone for me to be infused with? Hm? How do I achieve this when I am not sturdy enough to venture out on my own? And with all of those monsters out there..." "...Ah. Well...yes. That is true. You would need to find a..." Zircon was growing more wide-eyed as he was wrapped up in his own realization; Kyanite was right. "...Oh. And be durable already, now that I think on it. B-but surely that can still be done? There could be one out there just right for you, yes?"
Kyanite continued. "And, even if there is, even if I did manage it, what would I have to do then? Have myself shattered just to make [Mavis] and the others perform surgery on me?" "Well, I don't understand how you can focus so much on all the negatives, when I just gave you a solution to your problem! For goodness' sake! How can you not just be grateful?! And how can you not try it out and see, hm?!" "Zircon! Don't you think I've tried going on my own already?! It doesn't work! Or have you forgotten all of my repair trips?! Have you no care for how...hard this is for me?!" "Kyanite, I wasn't talking about...I-I haven't forgotten! Now didn't you want help, or not?!" "Mmm...! ...Well...yes, I did. But...you can think of these things because you're already protected by your hardness! You can already...do these things that I...can't." "...Oh. Wait, you mean...oh no. Oh no! Do you mean I'm making it worse by speaking so plainly?" Kyanite nodded, looking very glum indeed. Red Zircon realized that maybe he actually did forget how his plight affects the little one. Red Zircon didn't need to worry much as a 9.5 but had no perspective of what life as a brittle 5 is like. He just humbly said, "Oh, good grief...perhaps I didn't realize what this all means to you. I do sincerely apologize, Kyanite. I am not being as splendid as I should be, now am I?"
Kyanite thought that last remark Red Zircon gave was funny, in an endearing way. He smiled a little more at that, and showed the other that he was feeling a little better now. "Thank you. I'm sorry too. I just have a lot to consider as a five, is all. I don't want to have an...attitude. I just can't stand being so frail!" "Sakes. That does sound awful. ...In that case, I think what you need to do first is find someone who would take you to go find your gem part. I would simply love to go right now and help you, Kyanite, really! It would be lovely to repay you for your helping me back then, but I'm afraid it's almost noon! I will need to go patrolling soon with (Edward)! I just have no time to spare, you see." "Oh...really? Ugh, that's a shame. Who might I turn to, then?" "Not sure. Why not ask around? That's what I would do. My goodness, I am just full of good ideas today, aren't it~? I know~!" "Heh heh, yes, yes. Well thank you very much, anyway, Zircon! These are good ideas! And this could be it...! I'll get onto the search right away! See you!" "Good luck, little Kyanite! You'll need it out there~!"

i wanna know more about this starlight express you post about!!! it seems really cool and i'd love to get into it ;; thank you for your time ;w; <3
oh ofc! ive made a few posts about it before but never gone insanely into depth so i think im gunna answer this one a bit more detailed, so sorry for the length!
some basic history: the show was created by alw (same guy who did cats and phantom of the opera) it started in 1984 and has been running ever since! though it has been performed exclusively in Bochum, Germany since 2003 (besides the occasional tour), so most content you can find is in german. many people compare this show to cats, the songs generally do have that “character sings about what they do” vibe, but not anywhere near as literal as cats; there is definitely plot and concrete personalities to these characters. in my opinion it is WILDLY different from cats, but if you enjoy cats you will most likely enjoy starlight express! the WHOLE SHOW is performed in roller skates, each costume is an average of around 45 lbs and cost at least 10k-20k individually, the sets are wild with huge moving bridges, pyrotechnics, rising and falling platforms, and areas the skaters go right through the audience. the show has “races” where the trains all race around the rink at 20-30 mph and do choreographed crashes, it’s considered one of the most dangerous musicals!
(this is the set in bochum, germany)
story: the show opens with a little kid named control playing with toy trains, that night the trains come to life to compete in an annual national race (depending on production, the trains are either real living toys or the whole thing is a dream sequence the kid is having) trains from all over the world come to compete.
the story follows Rusty, a small weak steam engine who wants to win the race. he mainly competes against Greaseball the diesel, the previous years winner, and Electra, the new rich hot electric train
Rusty also hopes that winning the race will help him get together with the 1st class car, Pearl (which is kinda the main crux of the show, it really isnt an alw show without unneeded romance lmao). other notable characters are dinah, Greaseballs girlfriend who just gets so much shit and doesnt deserve it, cb, the silly little caboose :)), and poppa, rusties father figure who tells him that to win the race he needs to have faith in jesus The Starlight Express (its also certainly isnt an alw show without gratuitous religious allegory) also almost every song is insanely innuendo laden, it is unequivocally not an alw show without things being just insanely sexual. the show has gone through SO many changes over the years, some good most not dfghfg. pretty much every version has something wildly different! i would recommend that you read up on the show before searching for bootlegs bc you WILL be confused. id also recommend listening to some cast albums if youre the type that likes to do that before seeing a show!
as an example of changes, heres the same character throughout various years:
here are some cast albums available on youtube:
original 1984 london recording (pretty much the only surviving material from the original version)
1987 Japan/Aus tour album (highlight reel, only about 1/2 of the shows songs)
2002 “new starlight” album (notable for completely removing the character cb, it is pretty strange to have a whole main character just absent)
1988 German concept album (in german, THE most 80s thing you will EVER hear i swear its incredible, also only about 1/2 the songs)
1997 Bochum live recording (in german, personal fave cast)
1997 Mexico city (in spanish, notably the most different! abt 1/2 the songs)
2014 Bochum live recording (in german, great quality!)
this show is one that is sung through, there are bits of spoken dialogue, but mostly just as interludes between. every song is a different genre, so theres basically every 80s style in there, electro pop, rock and roll, disco, country, blues, gospel, theres a few duds definitely but thats to be expected with such range. it is mind numbingly 80s, so its definitely not everyones cup of tea
where to watch it!
watching starlight express is kinda tricky, despite its long run there has not been a pro shot :( so all we are left with is bootlegs! while good ones are out there, none are even close to film quality. it is DEFINITELY a show you need to do some private bootleg trading to get a fully rounded experience of, if thats too daunting its fine! you can still get the whole show from boots available on youtube, but if you end up really falling for the show youll definitely want to dig for more content after a short amount of time.
Boots available on youtube:
Broadway 1989 (REALLY good quality for the time, crunchy but i think that adds retro charm! this is also the closest youll get to really seeing the show as close as you can to the original version. sadly the first 15 minutes are missing (from Overture to Pumping Iron) so youll need to watch the first chunk of another production) B+
Vegas 1996 ( this production was cut short for vegas, so a few key songs are cut. they also opted to have the race sections be pre recorded rather than performed live) C+
2004 Bochum (in german, but has subtitles! video quality is pretty good, but there are some people slightly in frame) taken down :(
2014 Bochum p1 p2, 2nd(act 1 only) (german, these 2 recordings have BY FAR the best video quality, sadly the person recording focuses solely on a single background character, it is to the point where if you havent seen the show before you will not be able to tell what is going on. id recommend skimming these boots for views of costumes/ watching specific unobstructed songs, since there are some nice tight zooms) D taken down
there are other boots out there, but these are my immediate recommendations! better quality ones exist, however youll have to do some digging for them as they are not public. there are also LOTS of tv previews/ one off professionally recorded videos on youtube if youd like to see specific songs
i hope this is good convincing to watch this trainwreck (lol)

*snorts* Okay, haven’t watched the movie at all, as this comment will make very obvious, but... those last two tags definitely echo something I’ve long asked myself...
And, y’know, maybe, just for the entertainment of all you actual fans, I’ll present to you:
“purely what Jobey’s picked up through fandom osmosis”
Warning: I might ruin your childhood. Also, warning for language, because I drop The Big One during this fine summary. (And I don’t mean “bother!”)
BEAUTIFUL VISUALS (okay, I cheated. I caught the first three minutes or so on Youtube.)
Gordon now appears to spend his time at stations counting up the seconds his connecting train is late instead of dozing. Also, Thomas has a weird familiarity with American-style cheerleading chants?
A really obviously evil asshole arrives on the island, and apparently just runs... completely amok. Like, the Sodor humans have no control over him. He can rush through stations and buff things about and be an absolute safety hazard, but apparently we just? have to? live with that? fleet discipline does not apply to outsized diesels with terrifying and easily-weaponizable claws
Also, I think Diesel 10 is here to hunt down Lady, but what his cover story a.k.a. ACTUAL JOB on Sodor is supposed to be is beyond me
They didn’t have the guts to use Bert and ‘Arry, so they made up two more weirdo diesel twins
So, STH decides to go on a long-overdue holiday. Apparently it is Sodor Tradition, And Maybe Law?, that, if there is not a Topham Hatt around to run this railway, then he has to summon a fey changeling from their magical sister city.
Unfortunately, the current fey changeling “Mr. Conductor” is an absolute incompetent
Not only does Sir Topham leave his railway—in particular his fleet of living engines who have a total average mental age of ten—in the care of this idiot, but he doesn’t even wait to see if Mr. Conductor shows up. Just like, “Whelp, he’s late, but my wife will kill me if we don’t go right now. I’ll leave No One at the helm and hope the latest Conductor is actually just a little absent-minded and not, like, eaten alive by the multicolored connecting portal and never gonna make it in. Okay, byyyyye!”
Mr. Conductor may actually be so incompetent that if literally anyone else had been left in charge, there may not have been a plot, at least on the Sodor end of things?
Which I cheekily assume is the real reason Edward is (famously) Sir Not Appearing in This Movie. Coz otherwise every single parent who is roped into watching would be like “... why not leave him in charge? Yes, it is a bit like getting a rather tall middle schooler to watch a bunch of other kids while you’re away for a weekend instead of enlisting an actual adult. But, when your option for Actual Adult is this flighty, forgetful weirdo with the gold dust... whom we’re honestly not convinced could pass a background check...”
I am unclear on whether or not Duck was also audience-tested out of the movie. Though, if he was, then, first of all? WTF, test audience? Did you all suffer a collective preschool concussion?! But also, same deal with “this so-called plot would not survive his level of common sense.”
Anyway. So it turns out that Sodor only? sort of? half? exists? and survives in magical symbiosis with a small town in Pennsyltucky that is not a real place, just an American cultural conservative’s wet dream of what small towns in Pennsyltucky are like. Have I got this right?
Weirdly, although this fantasy railroadin’ American town has Magical Gold Dust and Locomotive Jesus, it otherwise does not have living engines. Because screw my sanity, that’s why.
Magical Gold Dust is literally life... but salt also works in a pinch (?)
There is a magical portal between Sodor and Shining Time that only Thomas can go through. (But at some point we push James through too, just for giggles? *unsure*)
Lady’s driver, by name of Burnet(?) Stone (y’all aren’t very consistent spellers, y’know), has a major guilt complex. The screenwriters think it’s a Tragic and Mysterious Past, but it’s mostly a major guilt complex. He’s also a bit dim, and Thomas, I think? solves the mystery of how to cure Lady within half an hour of being introduced to her, so... maybe he should have a guilt complex?
Also, he and the motorcycle-riding villain have had fifty years of cliched “you got the girl! wah wah WAHH i hate u” drama
This is the sort of movie where anyone who rides a motorcycle would obviously be a villain
Seriously, PT Barnum (wait, what?) establishes his villain credentials by aggressive driving while on a motorcycle in a peaceful smol law-abidin’ town. That is a scene that I’m 95% sure happens. (This is a pretty close analogue to 10 being all “aggressive riding while a war diesel!” on Sodor, so the long and proud tradition of Really Obvious and Cliched Villains In this Universe proceeds apace!)
Burnet Stone has two kid sidekicks (“sidekids”? no, that’s weird, nvm).
One is the daughter of his and Tragically Dead-by-Backstory Refrigerator Woman’s love child, Lily Stone. She is coming into Shining Town for the summer and immediately bonds with Burnet’s cute teen apprentice/gopher dude and basically she’s about to have the coolest summer ever, all Personal Past Revelations and Sweet Summer Small-Town Romance and also Befriending Thomas the Bloody Tank Engine. Guys. Every one of us deserved a summer vacation like this. None of us ever got it. Life is bullshit.
Magic Gold Dust is mostly useful for Conductors being able to Apparate and Disapparate, I think? And current Mr. Conductor runs out of it right when Diesel 10 decides to try to inflict physical harm on the engines under the Conductor’s care. Coz of course.
Mr. Conductor decides to look for Magic Gold Dust on the island, coz it’s somewhere on Sodor? (This is probably just an excuse for the director to show off all the most scenic Sodor scenery.)
Meanwhile, Diesel 10 harasses the hell out of everyone. All the drivers and firemen have apparently decided they don’t get paid enough for this shit and they’re outtt. So the engines are left to fend for themselves.
Toby rings his bell in a badass way at some point. (It’s badass, but also... not as badass as the salt scene? somehow? wtf is with this salt, i gotta know)
James does something pretty cool? But I have no idea what it is.
Thomas finds weird Magic Railroad portal somewhat traumatizing. But has to go through it, like, six times?
Thomas also finds he has surprisingly smashing romantic chemistry with a literal steam engine goddess? Like, to watch this movie is to either low-key or high-key ship them? No lie, I’m intrigued.
Lady is the source of Magical Gold Dust. Once she has Sodor coal, she is OK again, and has magic powers that she can use to save lots of engines’ lives, and I think Magical Gold Dust was all along just, like... her cinders and ashes?
Thomas, Lady, and Diesel 10 have a truly epic chase scene! (I just assume Bertie, that absolute red madman, tries to butt in with a joke about a re-match at some point.)
I don’t think Diesel 10’s claw is actually revealed until during the high-speed scene... for extra Terror points
I think maybe Thomas tricks Diesel 10 into falling into the viaduct at some point to end the chase scene? Either that or he tricks Diesel 10 in going through the multicolored portal? Anyway, chase scene ends. Via trickery.
Lady helpfully informs us that “magic” is really just “working together, positively, with mutual support, to the catchy beat of a synthesized musical theme” (that mayyy be my own quirky paraphrasing)
If “magic” is just “positive thinking and mutual support,” then frankly I think the Sodor engines are fucked... but that’s just me. Anyway there is a happy ending.
Mostly happy ending. There might be some bittersweet bullshit afoot? Mostly because the canon will completely forget about Lady forever. (But the fandom won’t!)
Lady goes back to her mountain? But I think it’s a mountain in Sodor, not Shining Time?? we all remember her by invoking her name in vain a lot
Oh yeah, Lady has a narrow-gauge sidekick named Proteus who as far as I’m aware doesn’t have romantic chemistry with anyone and whom most people seem to forget exists
Well, Proteus. I would say I care. But I still can’t be arsed to shell out the ten bucks necessary to buy the DVD, and I definitely can’t be arsed to go through and find my library log-in credentials. So, that would probably be a lie. Sorry, lil dude.
#... i saw a post like this for avatar the last airbender once#i doubt this is as funny but it was fascinating to see the accuracies and inaccuracies soooooo...#how did i do?#ttte#tatmr

Jeep Wrangler Sport S and Mustang 2.3L Convertible: Two Fours for Summer Fun
Words and Photos By Michael Hozjan
No I’m not talking about cases of beer. I’m referring to the number of cylinders found under the hood of two American icons in the automotive landscape – the Jeep Wrangler and Mustang. Don’t scoff, four cylinders have been making a huge come back in recent years and no, these are not your grand dad’s four cylinders. Both the Jeep and the Mustang rely on turbocharging to get the extra oomph when needed all while delivering below average thirst numbers compared to their V6 and V8 counterparts. Let’s face it do we really need all that horsepower all the time and isn’t it nice to save some bucks at the pump.
Jeep Wrangler Sport: Back to its roots
“There’s something amiss here.” I tell myself as the engine comes to life. I hit the off button and check for the glow plug light, there isn’t one. For some reason the engine doesn’t sound the same, and yet there’s something eerily familiar about the sound. I mistakenly expected the Wrangler to be diesel powered, which it was not. The diesel mill is offered in the Gladiator that I was due to drive, but at a later date. Blame it on old age or just on my eagerness to get behind the wheel of one of my favorite rides.
Well one thing lead to another and another and before I knew it, it was several days later that I popped the hood to gaze upon the turbocharged inline 2.0L four cylinder. THAT’S what the sound was… somehow, the engineers at Jeep have managed to get the sound of the old familiar World War II era four cylinder Jeep into this modern, 80th anniversary edition Wrangler…or maybe it’s just me. One thing is certain, it doesn’t sound like the Wrangler I’ve been accustomed to.
Maybe it’s just coincidence, maybe it’s good corporate planning, with Jeep’s closest off-road capable rival, the Ford Bronco making its debut this year, Jeep has stepped up the ante, not only have they launched the Wrangler Xtreme Recon equipped with the first ever 35-inch rubber straight out of the factory, but are also offering a slew of powerplants to make any competitor nervous: beginning with this week’s tester, there’s the 2.0 L turbocharged four cylinder mated to the 8-speed TorqueFlite automatic, the trusty old 285 horsepower Pentastar 3.6L V6s remain and come with either a manual or automatic trans, there’s also a mild hybrid version mated to the 3.6L tagged the eTorque, a 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 with 442 lb-ft of torque and 260 horses and for the first time in four decades, the Wrangler gets a V8. Available exclusively (dare I say for the time being) in the Rubicon 392 trim, the 6.4L throws out 470 horses and the like amount of torque through the eight-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission and Selec-Trac full-time active transfer case. It blasts the Rubicon 392 to 100 km/h in less than five seconds making it the quickest Wrangler in history!
Well it appears the Jeep has come full circle with their mills, reverting back to four cylinder power to move their off roaders about. But don’t think for a minute that these are the old WWII flatheads. No sir, and not one but two count them, two four cylinders are offered. Aside from my Snazzyberry Pearl colored 2.0L turbocharged tester which pumps out 270 horses and 295 lb-ft of torque, capable of towing 2,000 lbs (907 kilos), that’s 35 more lb-ft of torque than its V6 counterpart, there’s also an electrified four cylinder that adds an electric motor. The plug in hybrid 4xe delivers 375 horses! Stay tuned for more on this one.
Above and below: There’s nothing missing in the four that you wouldn’t find in the six.
If you’re a regular reader of my posts you’ll know that I do NOT check performance numbers or price tags before I get a feel for what the vehicle feels like. Does it feel like 300 horses, does it feel like 400 lb-ft of torque? I tend to reserve looking at the stats until after my first, second and third impression. That said, despite having 270 horses, it still seemed a bit anemic from my previous Wrangler encounters (with the V6). There’s a noticeable difference at half throttle when leaving a red light or stop sign, but that quickly disappears as you build up speed. Punch the go pedal however to wake up the turbo boost and grab on to the steering wheel. The torque kicks in and bites the tarmac like a banshee. Suddenly Jeeps decision to go with this combo makes perfect sense.
On the highway the four delivers smooth, linear power and actually feels better mated to the 8-speed automatic than the six. Passing semis or climbing grades isn’t a problem and while I didn’t get the chance to go off-roading I suspect that the added torque would be able to let this Wrangler do some serious climbing prowess without hesitation.
Of course one of the other main attributes is that the Wrangler can shed its top when the weather turns warm. With two tops available it still remains the only convertible SUV in the market.
Above: A hidden cubby hole under the trunk floor comes in handy
One of the Wrangler’s Achilles’ heals has always been it’s thirst for fuel. My best has usually been around 12L/100 kms even when feathering my foot. Well the 2.0L netted me a 9.75L/100 average, on top of which a $200 saving over the automatic trannied V6 makes getting into a Wrangler a lot easier. The Sport S starts at $45,465, my fully loaded tester came in at a substantial premium, which leads me to want to see this mill in the 2-door Wrangler variant with a manual transmission. Now that would truly be full circle. If you’ve always wanted a Wrangler but weren’t crazy about their fuel consumption Jeep has just given you several reasons why you should reconsider.

Mustang 2.3L Convertible: Is this the best Mustang ever?
It’s a balmy July afternoon, the kind we wait all year long for and fantasize about from December through to March. I’m in the left lane of the 401 heading west, passing semi after semi. The sun is beaming down on me and I get to thinking how nice this thing would be for a cross-country run. Indeed it doesn’t get much better than this. There are so many semis it reminds me of the rocking chair scene in The Bandit, only I’m not driving a T-top black Firebird with a roaring V8 and Sheriff Buford T Justice chasing me, but a drop top Antimatter Blue (yes that’s the hue) Mustang with a turbocharged 2.3L four cylinder.
For decades Ford has been grappling with the notion of having both a high performance Mustang and an economy Mustang, and yes when it first debuted there were trims that encompassed both. But over the years that concept got lost with muscle cars taking the limelight. It wasn’t until the gas crisis of ’73 that the economy car resurrected itself in the Mustang II, but in the process lost the muscle slice of the pie.
Well guess what, the 2.3L fits both bills easily. Yes diehard muscle heads may pooh pooh the thought of another four cylinder in a Mustang but they have no idea what they’re missing out on.
Pillaged from the darling all-wheel-drive Ford, the Focus RS, the 2.3L mill has been turned longitudinally to fit into the pony car. Although Ford has given the Mustang a larger twin scroll turbo, there are 18 fewer horses pulling the pony car over the RS. Torque however has been retained.
With 310 horses and 350 lb-ft of torque on tap mated to an optional 10-speed automatic my tester galloped along without so much as missing a breadth. Thankfully Ford has retained the 6-speed manual. My unofficial timing showed zero to a hundred kilometers shot in at 4.6 seconds! I have to say that as sweet as the four cylinder is, the exhaust note just tries to hard and gets annoying after a while. It’s like look at me, look at me. Oh shut up! Thankfully there is a shut off switch.
My ‘stang came with the High Performance Package, a $6,500 option inherited from the Mustang GT, which meant stickier 19” Pirelli rubber over the base car’s 17” units, larger brake rotors with four piston calipers, stiffer springs, a beefier rear sway bar, strut tower brace, a larger rad, a 3.55:1 limited slip diff. In other words, all the right stuff to make this a serious tourer.
Above and below: Top up or top down the Mustang looks great. Front spoiler is part of the High Performance Package.
Another plus for the four-cylinder argument is better balanced shedding 147kilos (auto trans) off its front axle. The result is a crisper handling ride with a nominal amount of body roll, less nosedive under hard braking. Switching driving modes from Normal to Sport mode for attacking the lakeside twisties shows the car’s true potential with the engine’s responsiveness hitting the sweet spot over 2,500 rpm and the fun factor sans V8.
This would make an interesting track car.
Inside you get all the usual fan fare of goodies including cooling and heated power leather seats. The hi-po package adds an oil pressure and turbo boost gauge and engine spun aluminum instrument panel. Fit and finish is spot on with comfortable buckets making the drive that much more enjoyable.
Above: Despite what it looks like my 6’ frame spent several hours back there in a friend’s convert for a three-hour trip to the Syracuse Nationals a few years back without a single complaint.
Like the Jeep the Mustang doesn’t come cheap. While the base price is a very reasonable $43,370, my tester’s option list added another $11,800 to the price tag. Stepping up to the $6,500 high performance package is a no brainer, especially if you’re a serious driver, but while the 10-speed is perfectly matched to the engine and responds wonderfully to throttle inputs I’d go with the 6-speed manual and trim $1,750 off the tag. Other options included $1,000 AM/FM/CD/HD radio, $2,300 for adaptive cruise, voice activated touch screen navigation and the Ford Safe & Smart package.
In a move I just don’t understand is the spare tire/wheel has been relegated to option status! In its place is a compressor - just the ticket for a bent rim, blow out or flat in the middle of nowhere on a dark rainy night. Come on Ford!
Yes the Mustang buyer has a number of trims and powerplants to opt for all the way to the 100 grand Shelby GT500 but really, wouldn’t you rather have a car that hits all the right fun buttons without breaking the bank while still passing a gas station or two ( I averaged 10.7L/100 km). Oh and let’s not forget the savings on the insurance premium on the four cylinder So shrug the V8 monkey off your back and hit the road in a four.
Price as tested: $56,970*

The Car Buying Agency | Top 10 Car Buying Mistakes
The Car Buying Agency — Lots of people buy a new car, and then regret their purchase soon thereafter. If you don’t take a lot of precautions, you will be a car buying victim instead of a smart buyer. So, here are the top ten mistakes that buyers make when shopping for a new car. These mistakes are not listed in order of importance…but don’t miss the message in every mistake.
1. Impulse buying | The Car Buying Agency
An impulse is an emotion. The worst reason to buy a car is emotion. Car sales people are taught that they must try everything they can to sell you a car during your first visit. Statistically, they know that if they don’t, they won’t get a second chance. If you pull into a dealer lot to just “kick a few tires,” but you have not sworn to yourself that you will not buy on that visit, you’re doomed. Don’t say things like “I love this car” or “I’ve got to have this car.” Don’t get your emotions involved in this buying decision. If you’re talking too much, the car salesman will read that as buying signals. And salesmen are much better at clubbing you with your own buying signals than you are at resisting them.
Tons of people make impulse car purchases. You cannot do your research and wise shopping if you make an impulse buy.
2. Lack of research
Goes hand in hand with an impulse buy. You need to go online and research about cars, including:
a. safety
b. recalls
c. resale value
d. maintenance and repairs
e. range of car prices for the make and model you want
The Car Buying Agency | Research will give you the information you need to make an informed decision.
3. Unrealistic about your car needs
Many car shoppers grossly overestimate their needs. Instead of buying a car that reflects their actual driving experience, they buy a vehicle that feeds their future plans or perceived future needs. For instance, a buyer who plans to own a boat and trailer may buy an SUV or heavy pickup. But he does not own the boat YET. Overall, it’s best to buy a vehicle for your present needs, not your future desires.
4. Not calculating the true cost of a hybrid
Hybrid vehicles, like the Prius, are priced far above a regular gas or diesel. When you subtract the cost of the regular vehicle from the hybrid price, you’ll see the premium you pay for the hybrid. Now, will the fuel savings pay for themselves over the number of months you own the vehicle? Hardly ever! Most times you’ll pay more overall for a hybrid vehicle. Gas and diesel vehicles are becoming more and more efficient. Remember, over 50% of the vehicles in all of Europe have diesel engines, and it’s been that way for 50 years. Must be a reason, eh?
5. Not shopping for car insurance before the car purchase
Here’s a big no-no. How many times have you called your insurance agent and gotten a quote on the car you WANT to buy? If you’re upgrading from an average car to a different kind of car…like going from a Toyota Altima to a Corvette…the increase in insurance premiums could make the new car purchase unaffordable. Unfortunately, most people find this out AFTER they buy that shiny new car. But just going from an older car to a new car could drastically increase your insurance costs. What if your old car didn’t have collision coverage, but your new car will? That could mean hundreds of dollars in added premiums.
6. Talking trade-in during negotiations for the new car purchase
Don’t include trade-in for your old car in the new car deal. It’s too easy for the car dealer to structure your deal to look like you’re getting much more for your trade-in. Make your car deal apart from any trade-in consideration. Then, get the trade-in offer and deduct it from the total. Also give serious consideration to selling your old car yourself. You’ll get much more money for your old car.
7. Dealer financing | The Car Buying Agency
This is a mine field, and the dealers have set the mines in your path. The most dangerous place in a dealership is the Finance and Insurance (F&I) office. The F&I office accounts for a big percentage of the total profits of a dealership. You must be wary of every offer here…financing, warranty, insurances like life insurance that pays off your loan balance. I recommend that you decline everything offered from an F&I office except a low interest rate on a loan of no more than 36 months.
8. Not buying at the end of the month and end of the year.
At the end of the month…any month…the salesmen and dealership are trying to maximize their bonuses and incomes. You’ll get your best deals if you buy in the last couple days of the month. The same goes for end-of-year purchases. Dealerships are desperately trying to get rid of last year’s models, and finish the year strongly. So, when’s the absolute best time to buy a car? The last couple of days in December of any year. You can hardly lose if you’re a smart buyer.
9. Leasing a car
Do you know why you see so many auto ads on TV that feature low lease payments? Because the car companies and dealers make a TON of money on a lease…far more then when they just sell a car. The lease agreement you sign is written totally in favor of the lease company. You never own the car, you only rent it for a number of months. You are responsible for maintenance and insuring the car. Plus, your lease limits you to a certain maximum number of miles driven. If you exceed the limits, the mileage penalties are staggering. I’ve looked at leases every time I’ve bought a car since the early 80s, and I’ve never once found a scenario in which I could come out ahead with a lease.
10. New vs. Used. | The Car Buying Agency
Most people do not need a brand new car. When you buy a new car, you get hammered on depreciation in the first year. Sometimes the value of your car drops as much as 20% the moment you drive your new ride off the dealer lot. The car lots are jammed with excellent used cars. You can save a bunch of money by buying a used car. But you won’t know that for sure unless you do some research. Compare the TOTAL cost of a new car versus the used car, including finance costs, maintenance and insurance. Most times, the used car will win…even when dealers offer zero percent car loans.
