Do you think if Bingge somehow gotten into Shen Qingqiu head via dreamscape(and dug deeper than Bingmei ever dared), he would see Shen Yuan in a room filled with his merch, where he was reading his story, defending him in comments and think: “he might love you most, but he loved me first.”?

SVSSS Liveblog Volume 1 Chapter 2
Shen Qingqiu being forced to look at a 60 year old man holding a teenager like a lover “I hate this fucking novel”
Local man is also bored not only does he half to be an asshole but he has to be bored too
I know he’s not gonna run out of B-points because there’s 3 more volumes after this but as a perpetual video game item hoarder I get so nervous when he loses any
He’s half naked already damn, the universe is already trying to wife this man up
She really said “Most men don’t moisturize”
The Skinner demon agrees with me that Shen Qingqiu is hot, not who I thought would be on my team but I’ll take what I can get
Luo Binghe really is unlocking crushing on his teacher the universe is already trying to wife Shen Qingqiu up!
Teenagers understandably horrified to think their teacher is telling the demon to skin one of them to save his own skin unaware he’s actually gaming the system RIP Shen Qingqiu no one else will appreciate your rulers lawyering
Also Shen Qingqiu “that shit was so dumb”
Luo Binghe understandably like “Hey were you trying to get me killed?”
He’s free of child abuse mode lets goooooo
“He could finally carry out the great and glorious task of clinging to the male lead’s thighs!” The closet is disintegrating, it is falling apart around you
Is the Sect leader checking if this man is possessed? Because he wasn’t the most insufferable person to be around for 2.5 seconds?
And Luo Binghe’s puppy crush continues to form
Born to xp farm forced to plot
He saved a pretty man! Woo
A badass pretty man nice
Apparently there’s a self harm peak?
He is bemoaning the pretty man being a pretty man and not a massive beefcake dude chill I get it your into men
Pretty man is understandably distrustful of the guy he knows of as the world’s biggest asshole
Pretty art!!! ❤️-❤️
Local man understandably distrustful but he cannot avoid the fact that Shen Qingqiu is the world’s most wifeable man forever
Local man is disgusted, it won’t last
“Time to leave” the entire outside world is on fire
Demon woman barely wearing anything and this man’s first thought is “How don’t your feet hurt”
Local man isn’t an idiot, it’s incredibly effective
Please never make me read “loli willfulness” ever again
The Luo Binghe puppy crush continues to become stronger
Say it with me now: Ooohh Pretty Art
Yes I will do that everytime
“Love that he never wrote her in a sex scene” hey buddy why are you telling me this
Hi emoticon
The comphet really is that strong huh
Luo Binghe’s like “Does he really like me o///o”
“Mr. Masturbation is a shit writer” - Shen Qingqiu every single chance he gets
“This woman is annoying as hell when your an actual person in this world” yeah that’s true of a lot of characters I’d assume
“We won get the fuck out”
Homeboy talks shit about everyone else’s intelligence and then forgets his student literally cannot die because he’s the protagonist of the universe and gets poisoned forever
My man I know your not gonna be perma dead two chapters into the series but damn that hit
Beautiful and dramatic art!!!
Binghe looks so scared and horrified :(((
Even dying he’s shit talking the writing
Magic blast clothes remover is wild
Eyyy hot guy is back
This man is going to make a habit of passing out dramatically isn’t he?

Look, sometimes you need to write shit with no redeeming qualities whatsoever. It's set in the AU where SY is sleeping with both father and son and it's vaguely D/s TLJ/SY porn. Do with that what you will.
Shen Yuan should have pulled a “Not tonight, I have a headache.” He’s in no shape to handle anyone tonight, not with Binghe having taken advantage, taken all of the advantages, of his father’s business trip so thoroughly, probably to stop Shen Yuan from doing exactly what he’s doing right now. What Shen Yuan needs is a week of uninterrupted sleep by himself to restore his strength, his health and his sanity. It’s what he told Binghe when he left his boyfriend’s apartment.
But Tianlang-Jun had called the next day, fresh off the plane, not even bothering to hide how much he’d missed Shen Yuan, and he had found himself unable to say no to Tianlang-Jun’s very suggestive tone. Acquiescing to whatever Tianlang-Jun demanded of him was second nature by now.
So Shen Yuan had said yes, he’d be right there, and so here he is, with Tianlang-Jun’s tongue in his mouth and his hands down the back of his pants. It shouldn’t be possible for Shen Yuan to light up like this, to burn like, like he was Tianlang-Jun, eager to put behind him three weeks of abstinence. Shen Yuan hasn’t even enjoyed a full twenty-four hours of it yet! Still, he twists under Tianlang-Jun’s touch like his sore body wasn’t protesting, like it wasn’t dreading the path those hands seemed intent on following.
Shen Yuan desperately curses biology. Did both of them need to be that well endowed? They didn’t even have the decency to have something they needed to compensate for! He has no idea how to tell Tianlang-Jun that he’s too sore for a proper welcome. It’s not like he can build a proper argument when he’s like this. Tianlang-Jun will laugh out any attempt at resistance, will talk circles around him until he’s begging to be fucked, having forgotten everything but the need he was being fed. After all, he said yes.
He’s doomed. He has to accept he won’t be able to leave the bed tomorrow.
Might as well enjoy it as best he can.
So Shen Yuan doesn’t protest when Tianlang-Jun removes their clothes with a bit too much haste, a lack of control uncharacteristic of him. Any other time, Shen Yuan might be amused. He might dare to tease, knowing it would result in him being put in his place and relishing every moment of it.
Tonight, he knows better. He can’t afford the extra workout. It’ll take all he has to come out of the tamest version of their usual encounters in one piece. He prefers to remain pliant, to be as good as Tianlang-Jun wants him to be, so that he’ll be rewarded and, hopefully, taken cared of properly.
His breathing is ragged by the time Tianlang-Jun’s finger finds his opening, but all the desire in the world can’t stop him from wincing.
Tianlang-Jun stops at once.
Shen Yuan also freezes.
When Tianlang-Jun tries again, Shen Yuan manages to hold back the exclamation of pain.
He cannot, however, stop himself from tensing.
Gone are Tianlang-Jun’s dulcet tones. “I see my son has kept you busy.”
It is utterly ridiculous that Shen Yuan still isn’t immune, but it is what it is; he can’t help blushing bright red at Tianlang-Jun acknowledging Shen Yuan and his own son’s sex life. He’s not the one related to either of them, how come he’s the most embarrassed by it! If he had the power to impose anything on them, he would forbid both his lovers from even thinking about the other during sex.
He tries to get himself back together long enough to answer. “Did you expect anything else?”
Tianlang-Jun sighs, his voice softening. “You’re right. I shouldn’t have. You, however, should not have let me get away with it. I have no desire to hurt you.”
He knows that. He’s more than aware that for all of Tianlang-Jun’s pushing, he has his wellbeing at heart. He would never inflict pain when it could be avoided.
But. “I said yes.”
“You should not have felt obligated to.”
Did he? Is that why he said yes?
No. He said yes because Tianlang-Jun had the power to make him lose all reason. A power he and his son share.
Shen Yuan had been doomed from the start. “I didn’t.”
“Then why did you come in this shape, without even informing me?”
His cheeks are still burning. He wants to answer, instinctively want to respond to Tianlang-Jun’s kind but firm request in a way that would please him, but words die on his tongue before he can make it move. How could he explain what he can’t admit to himself?
Lips press against his, cutting off any potential response.
Shen Yuan leans into the excuse gratefully.
Tianlang-Jun’s eyes meet his, and Shen Yuan knows he doesn’t have to speak to be understood. The hands still resting on his ass change their trajectory to cup his cock, still hard despite the light pain of the intrusion.
This time, the sound Shen Yuan lets out is of another nature entirely.
He hides his face in the crook of Tianlang-Jun’s neck, hoping the sounds he’s making so close to his ear aren’t deafening.
He’d want to do better than this, to be more than a trembling mess barely able to hold himself together, only good for taking what he’s being given gratefully, but at the moment it takes all he has not to shatter in pieces under Tianlang-Jun’s hands. Not to falter from the mere brush of the man’s untouched erection against him, threatening and yet calling to him even in this state.
Tianlang-Jun pulls at him just so, and he’s the one breaking like a dam, like he had been waiting for an eternity for exactly this.
It takes him a few minutes to piece himself back together.
Tianlang-Jun holds him through it, his soiled hands a comforting weight on his back.
He wouldn’t call the weight of the cock straining against his thighs comforting, but it certainly is familiar.
Once he’s certain he has regained enough muscle coordination for it, he slides off Tianlang-Jun’s lap until he’s kneeling on the floor by the bed, his intent clear enough even before he licks his drying lips. He might be too sore to enjoy a proper fuck, but he can still offer his throat.
It is all it is; an offer. He has never been, nor would he want to be, the one making the choices here.
Nails brush lightly against his scalp before fingers curl around the back of his head, soft but unrelenting. Shen Yuan closes his eyes and opens up as wide as he can, welcoming the heavy weight on his tongue until the cock lodges itself all the way down the back of his throat.
At first, the mere idea he could manage this would have seemed laughable to him, but he was taught that with patience and the right guidance, very few things are impossible. He can now handle to the girth and length of his partners if he so wishes.
This, too, can be demanding, but Luo Binghe has spared him this, so it is easier to handle at the moment.
He breathes when he can, unmindful of the tears pearling in his eyes, and remains open and docile for his partner to use as he sees fit, mindlessly responding to each caress or soft-spoken word to please his partner just as he wants to be pleasured. He was trained to be good, and this is what he will be. Surely Tianlang-Jun deserves nothing less.
The grip on the back of his head tightens.
Hopefully, it will leave marks Shen Yuan will still be able to feel tomorrow.
He’s pushed deeper onto Tianlang-Jun’s cock, his taste turning saltier as more precome spills inside him. Shen Yuan readies himself for what he knows is coming, tightening his lips as much as he can to keep his master’s essence from escaping. He feels the warm skin pulse in his mouth before come fills him, leaving him with the deep satisfaction of knowing that even when tried and used, Shen Yuan can still be good, as he always should be.
Shen Yuan stays where he is, his lips still loosely wrapped around the head of Tianlang-Jun’s cock. For all that his body is tired, not ready for another round yet, his partner’s situation is very different. He knows the night is far from over. If Tianlang-Jun so wishes, in a few minutes Shen Yuan will once again take in as much of his partner’s cock as he is able to, until he feeds Shen Yuan his come once more. He doesn’t mind. He never has. Tianlang-Jun likes finding his limits and pushing past them until they’re completely obliterated. All Shen Yuan has to do is let him.
In another life, he might have complained. In this one, he sees no reason to. There is nothing as peaceful as these moments, where the world is simple and the path forward, clear. How could he say no to it?
So he ignores the strain in his knees and stays in place, ready to be useful when it is demanded of him.

Hey folks! I've been under the weather, unfortunately, but am excited to share this preview for ch 5 of HSY! It's Luo Binghe's birthday and Shen Qingqiu doesn't know what to get the man who has everything except him.
-------
“What do you want to do?” Shen Yuan asked him with a gentle smile.
Mistake; never ask a predator what they want. Shen Yuan was brilliant but far too caring for Binghe to think tactically when he needed to about him.
“What are you willing to give me?” He asked lowly, leaning a bit closer to him.
Shen Yuan blinked before stepping back with a laugh. “You know the answer to that! And I wouldn’t know what to get the man who has everything, even if I was there physically.”
That made Binghe frown and it was his turn to take a step back. “Everything, huh? You really think that?”
They stared at each other for a moment before Shen Yuan came back to him and patted his head softly. “No, not everything,” he admitted kindly, and that kindness, that acknowledgment, hurt. “I do not know what I could give you that you do not already have.”
You. Give me you.
Luo Binghe reached up to find Shen Yuan’s hand and brought it down to hold in his. “Just give me what you can of yourself, Shen Yuan. That’s all I would ask.”
“Bingge…” Luo Binghe kept his gaze down and Shen Yuan sighed. “Don’t I always?”
Binghe looked at him then and saw conflict on his face. They both knew the answer to that and they were equally unsatisfied with it. If there was one thing he knew Shen Yuan couldn’t stand, it was seeing Binghe unhappy.
It wasn’t like he had to pretend much for that to show on his face. He was immensely grateful he was able to spend time with Shen Yuan at all, but he had never learned how to not want more, want everything.
Even knowing that everything was impossible to hold. Just like Shen Yuan.
“Hey.” Binghe blinked back to the present moment and Shen Yuan ran a light finger along the curve of his eyebrow. “This is supposed to be a happy day.”
“I’m happy when I’m with you, Shen Yuan,” he said, angry at himself for losing focus and messing this up. “Let’s forget about this and treat it like any other time, okay?”
“No.” Shen Yuan took his face in his hands and said, “The day you were born is worth celebrating and remembering, Bingge. You are worth celebrating. Tell me something I can do for you, and it’s yours.”
Luo Binghe had a list of what he wanted Shen Yuan to do for and with him, but it took a moment of thinking to land on something that wouldn’t scandalize the other. As he thought, Shen Yuan dropped his hands to his robes, absently adjusting them for lack of anything else to do. He appreciated the casual and intimate fussing, especially knowing that only one other would ever receive the same treatment from him.
Eventually, he took anxious hands in his and said, “Would you tell me about the night we met?”
Shen Yuan smiled, but there was an uncertain quality to it. “Alright. What do you want to know?”
“I’ve replayed those bare moments together a thousand times by now, Shen Yuan. You hesitated when speaking about how you came to be in Bingdi’s dreamscape in the first place. Won’t you tell me the full account now?”
“…okay. It’s boring though.”
Considering the marks that were still bleeding on his neck that night, Luo Binghe severely doubted that was the case. “I would still like to know what led to us meeting.”
“Well. I mentioned it was for Binghe’s birthday. He had asked me to visit his dreamscape as a present for his birthday. We weren’t together then; the last present he asked from me on his birthday was actually a kiss, haha.
“Anyway! You know that I wasn’t always Shen Qingqiu. He asked to see me in my original body, before I died, of course.”
“Before you died for me, you mean,” Luo Binghe asked softly, squeezing his hands.
“I.” Shen Yuan paused, then frowned. “I mean, you were an idea to me Binghe. I cared deeply for you and about your fate, but I wouldn’t call me dying of food poisoning dying for you.”
“That doesn’t change how I feel about it, Shen Yuan,” Binghe said, very sure about this. “Even when I was just a fictional character to you, someone who wasn’t even real, you were upset enough by my fate to do something fatal. My fate was written, then you functionally died to change it to something better. Then you actually did. Do you understand what that means to me?”
Shen Yuan stared at him and frustration rose in Luo Binghe. How did he not understand how Luo Binghe felt about him?! After everything!?
Enough. Reminding Shen Yuan of Binghe’s endgame wouldn’t help anything at the moment. He was far more willing to let more things go when he could pretend that wasn’t actively courting him.
“Regardless, he asked to see you…?” Luo Binghe quirked his mouth in slightly ironic teasing. “Shen Yuan must have been even more beautiful than he is now if it would make didi lose control as he did for you to show up so disheveled before me.”
Shen Yuan startled at his referring to Luo Bingdi in such a way but then physically shook his head. “Haha. Ha. Yeah, no, that’s definitely not the case. And, um. I was technically the one who jumped him.” Shen Yuan admitted with a flush. Then he perked up and looked at Luo Binghe with something like hope. “Maybe I could show you!”
…Luo Binghe wanted to know what he looked like, of course, but he wasn’t dumb. Shen Yuan was probably planning to show him his original appearance in an effort to decrease Binghe’s attraction to him, like that was normal and somehow possible. And like his younger counterpart hadn’t mauled his neck after his last time in that body.
Shen Yuan so, so smart, but had a few blind spots. Luo Binghe wouldn’t be himself if he didn’t exploit that for all it was worth.
“I would like that,” he said demurely.
Shen Yuan smiled at him and then squeezed his hand, like that wasn’t enough to make Binghe’s heart stutter in his chest. “Great! Okay, so last time, Binghe had to give me some access to his qi in order to manipulate the dream enough that I can show you what I looked like. I think our qi is familiar enough with each other’s now that it shouldn’t be too difficult to make a limited connection? Especially not since I’ve been helping guide you through some cultivation.”
Luo Binghe nodded dutifully and did his best to not act like Shen Yuan wasn’t offering himself on a platter. This kind of connection was extremely intimate, the closest two cultivators could get to dual cultivating without actually doing so.
He was more than happy to take that step with him.

Part 6 of Shen twins au. Parts one, two, three, four, and five.
“Loashi, I came back,” Luo Binghe says fondly. “For you.”
He holds out his hand for Shen Yuan to take.
Shen Yuan doesn’t know what’s going on, why he’s Binghe’s target. But he will willingly jump on this sword for his brother. Perhaps, since Shen Yuan treated him so well as a disciple, he won’t torture him like he would his brother.
He’ll go with Binghe if it means saving Shen Jiu.
It doesn’t occur to him that Luo Binghe doesn’t want to torture him, doesn’t want to harm him in anyway, and doesn’t feel any anger or hate towards him.
Shen Qingqiu however knows what’s going on instantly.
As Shen Yuan reaches to take Binghe’s hand, he slaps it away.
“A-Yuan get out of here!”
“No!” Shen Yuan twirls around him and to Binghe.
Binghe smirks. Even Shen Qingqiu’s brother wants to get away from him.
“Everything will be alright,” Shen Yuan says from behind Binghe. “Let me do this.”
Shen Qingqiu is furious. He looks at Binghe and points a finger.
“You may be able to charm those fools at the Huan Hua Sect, but I know your true nature!”
If it wouldn’t harm their sect by revealing they’d harbored a demon for so long, he’d do it now. But he knows there isn’t anything he can do, not without revealing the truth. Not without his brother’s cooperation. But A- Yuan is being a naive idiot at the moment.
As he watches Luo Binghe lead his didi away, with a hand at the small of his back, Shen Qingqiu quietly seethes.
He needs to get Qi-ge.
Shen Yuan is experiencing emotional whiplash.
Luo Binghe is being a perfect gentleman. Charming and suave as one would expect from a stallion protagonist.
Shen Yuan is proud of how his little student has grown.
The Huan Hua disciples fawn over him. Luo Binghe introduces him as his Shen Laoshi and the disciples all greet him with respect.
Shen Yuan is confused as to why Luo Binghe is treating someone he plans on getting revenge on with such respect. Shen Yuan’s waiting for the turn, but he’ll happily take this for now.
“This disciple missed you,” Binghe says once they’re alone.
Shen Yuan expects the turn will happen now.
“This senior is not your master, no need to refer to yourself as disciple,” he says. He waves his fan casually, trying for the aloof immortal master vibe that his brother has mastered.
“This once always saw Laoshi as his master more than Shen Qingqiu.“
Shen Yuan’s fan freezes mid motion.
“That’s rather unfilial,” Shen Yuan replies, offended on behalf of his his brother.
Then the implications set in.
Is. Is Binghe not upset with him?
“Does Laoshi know of this ones true nature?” Binghe asks.
“... Yes,” Shen Yuan replies carefully.
“Then you must also know what Shizun did to this one.”
Shen Yuan closes his eyes. There it is.
“Yes,” he says softly.
“And what does Laoshi think about it?” Binghe asks slowly.
Shen Yuan pauses, he isn’t sure what Binghe wants from him. He decides to just be honest.
“You didn’t deserve it,” he says.
Luo Binghe breaks into a smile.
“I’m glad Laoshi thinks so,” he replies brightly. “But don’t worry. Soon Shen Qingqiu won’t be able to hurt anyone else, ever again.”
All the blood drains from Shen Yuan’s face.

Shen Jiu Character Analysis:
The Misunderstandings Regarding Shen Jiu and Why I Feel Sorry for Him
Shen Jiu is a very misunderstood character, and although he may not be all smiles and sunshine, his attitude is very realistic considering all that he's been through. While I don't approve of his behavior towards Bingge, when you think about it, you can understand that he's applying the way he was treated by Qiu Jianluo who always beat him up, to Luo Bingge who, backed up by his protagonist halo, somehow manages to get things right despite Shen Jiu's attempts to sabotage his efforts. To him, Bingge's strength and spiritual prowess which seems to come easy to him, is something Shen Jiu struggled to achieve while Binghe, no matter what Shen Jiu tries to do, always succeeds in the end.
Shen Jiu has subtle anger buried in deep, but treats it apathetically. The world has done so much to him, and it seems no one is ever there to help, still constantly blaming him on everything instead.
In the extra chapters of Airplane's Adventures, Shang Qinghua/Airplane accompanies Shen Jiu and Liu Qingge on a mission. After Shen Jiu and Liu Qingge fought with each other again, where Liu Qingge believed Shen Jiu was trying to harm him instead of the demons, Liu Qingge left. Airplane, who is the writer of the original novel and creator of the characters, who knows about his characters more than anyone, thinks to himself, as written in the novel:
Ah right, he had gone to all the trouble to do a good thing, but the result didn’t meet expectations. If it didn’t meet expectations just go out and tell Liu Qingge, “I only wanted to help you out just then”, but he wasn’t willing to do it. If you’re not willing, just let me help you explain, but he couldn’t tear down his face━maybe he was embarrassed. This person really was full of twists and turns, always tormenting himself.
As we can see, Airplane knows Shen Jiu originally meant well and actually helped Liu Qingge when he was being attacked by a demon from behind, but no one would know that as the story is filtered in a way to show Shen Jiu being purely scum. There's a lot hidden under the surface, but the only way we get to see true intentions is when we see the story from Airplane's point of view, since he wrote it and knows how he intended for these characters to be.
Airplane then proceeds to advise Shen Jiu, telling him:
“If, in the future, you see someone going into qi deviation, do not panic, and do not rashly go up thinking you can save them. You must stay calm and go call for help, do not make a move yourself. Or else, you will definitely be more of a hindrance than a help, poke a big hole in the basket, and abandon yourself to despair from then on, unable to free yourself for the rest of your life. Not even jumping into the Yellow River could wash you clean!”
So originally, Airplane wrote Shen Jiu with him having in mind believing himself that he could help Liu Qingge when he had a qi deviation, not having any intention of killing him. But him being written as the villain clearly gives Shen Jiu a hand that can only destroy, even if that wasn't his intention. Shen Jiu, as well as Luo Bingge, are prisoners to the system and to a force stronger than them in which no matter what they want or intend, there are simply things they have no control over, no matter how much deep down they wish they did. I'll keep that topic for a different post.
Shen Jiu is too prideful to state his good intentions. Since they believe him to be scum no matter what he does, then let them. He doesn't care what anyone thinks, even if he doesn't want to harm them, if they believe he does, then he doesn't care enough to change their opinion about him. Shen Jiu is a self-hating person. And he won't defend himself if someone accuses him of something. The sort of attitude he has will hide his good intentions. He's the type of person to carry himself with a cold aura and look on his face, do good in secret, and never let anyone know about it.
However, sometimes when you're constantly accused of anything and everything, and to people you're considered a scummy person, then at some point, you may just throw everything to the wind, with the thought of if that's what they think, then so be it. You want me to be the villain, I'll be the villain. And that's possibly where throwing his frustration comes, towards Bingge, the boy who can clearly bear everything and not complain about it, in his perspective. Everything has led up to that, originally he had good intentions, but now, he simply doesn't care.
When he is later faced with so many accusations at the same time, in his mind, no matter what he says, it simply won't help. The people will simply only hear their own voices and believe what they want to believe.
I believe that despite if Shen Jiu has good intentions, it's covered up by the fact that he's written as a villain, with details of his past and personal view originally unknown and covered up considering Airplane Bro left out alot in his original drafts and didn't include alot of details concerning Shen Jiu's life since he wanted to mainly write what his fans wanted even if it originally wasn't what he had planned. So just as Luo Bingge has a protagonist halo that will basically bend the story to protect him from death and help him to succeed, Shen Jiu has a villain halo that no matter what good he does, in the eyes of others, he will seem guilty no matter what he does to try and fix things. Also, think about Liu Qingge and how he treats his disciples. He barely shows up, Bai Zhan Peak is always destroying things and fighting everyone, including Luo Bingge. But the story doesn't focus on that and it's considered a normal occurence, because it's filtered in a way where even if the characters all treat their disciples roughly for example, Shen Jiu is the targeted and chosen villain, so every little thing he does will become emphasized and make it seem like he's the worst person in the world, even if everyone else does the same or worse. There are a lot of people with bad attitudes, but they're not called a villain. Because there's no focus on the cruelty of others, only focusing on Shen Jiu's actions and emphasizing them, no matter how many actual villains there really are, it won't seem as terrible as Shen Jiu because he's put in the spotlight, on stage, where everyone points out and focuses solely on his flaws.
When someone is treated like a villain and constantly hated without any care, kindness, or love ever being directed towards them, it's only natural for them to become a cold, distant, and self-loathing person, shutting themselves out from the world, as Shen Jiu originally did when he was rarely at the peak as he never really felt welcomed there by anyone. No one ever shows him any genuine care, other than Yue Qingyuan, but Shen Jiu feels betrayed by him for leaving him and never coming back to rescue him when they were young, never knowing the truth of what really happened even up to his death, which I think is really sad and tragic. Also, Yue Qingyuan is a great person and all, but it kind of bothers me that he still calls him Xiao Jiu even though it bothers Shen Jiu, who prefers the name Shen Qingqiu since the other name brings back memories of a life he would really love to forget and not think of. It's like constantly reminding your best friend of their ex who they really want nothing to do with anymore. He wants to fix what happened but he's really constantly struggling to. Anyway, I just feel that it's a bit disrespectful to call someone something they don't like and they're trying to forget. (I'm using the name Shen Jiu here so you don't get confused) Shen Jiu needs for others to show their good intentions before he does. So far he hasn't seen that from people, and so he believes that everyone is intentionally against him and doesn't like him. Like when he was fighting with Liu Qingge, he later mentioned to Yue Qingyuan and asked him why Liu Qingge doesn't show him kindness and mercy first, and why does he always have to be the one to do so. Shen Jiu is like a cat, if you want him to approach you kindly, you need to approach him kindly first, even if it takes a while.
According to a psychology fact I read, it takes 7 positive compliments to make up for 1 negative comment. So if he is constantly faced with negativity and barely anything positive, how is he supposed to function properly without bitterness taking over him? He's only human. He too has feelings. The negativity targeted towards him outweighs the positive. Watching Shen Jiu's actions, he's generally trying to find a place for himself to belong, and no one ever accepts him. All of that turns into subtle and low-key hatred and anger. It hurts deep down to be hated by everyone and not having anyone you can even trust. Of the very few who were nice to him was Qiu Haitang, sister to her abusive brother who always beat up Shen Jiu, without her ever knowing. He was going to marry her, but it's pretty normal that someone written as a villain isn't allowed to be happy, and so life happens. He's always had a difficult life, constantly hated, never loved, being rejected and seemingly betrayed. He's never fit in anywhere, and I see him to be a very lonely person who wants somewhere to belong and has a human need to be loved, even if he'd never admit it.

Sorry if they're too many, you don't have to answer everything! What is your fave novel of the three? Favorite/least favorite character for each one? Favorite male/female character for each one (aside from you all-time fave)? Favorite canon ship? Favorite non-canon ship? Least favorite of them (and why)? Favorite tool/weapon in the three? They're so many, sorrysorrysorry!
Don’t worry, I love answering questions! There might be some spoilers here, so... be wary of them.
Ok, let’s go in order:
1.
My favorite novel of the three is Tian Guan Ci Fu. When I read Mo Dao Zu Shi I told myself “okay, I don’t think anything could beat this”, and then TGCF came around. I think this novel is, in general, one of my favorite books of all time. Aside from the romance part of it (which is often what people mainly focus on when it comes to MXTX), I really loved the characters and the story is absolutely incredible. I ended up getting so involved in it that I read the entire thing + the extras in three days, subsequently read what was out of the manhua in... maybe two hours? and watched the entire donghua as soon as it came on Netflix in one sitting. The only time this happened to me before TGCF was with the Silmarillion.
This tells a lot.
2.
Favorite SVSSS character: Luo BingHe shares his first place with Shen QingQiu.
Least favorite SVSSS character: Immortal Master Lao Gongzhu of Huan Hua Palace. I cannot even begin to explain how disgusted I was by that character, I almost never hated anyone more than him.
Favorite MDZS character: Wei WuXian. He’s been my favorite character from the beginning. His story follows exactly one of my favorite character dynamic, much like many other favorites of mine (from good to evil to neutral/somewhat good again, even if in this case WWX didn’t actually turn evil). I’m pretty sure the same can be said of almost everyone in my favorite list... oh well.
Least favorite MDZS character: it’s a tough choice between Su She, Wen Chao, and Jin ZiXun. I just... I disliked them so much. It’s not even hate, I just didn’t want to see them on screen. Maybe Wen Chao is the worst of them... yeah, he’s the worst. I could count Jiang Cheng in my least favorites as well, but my reasons for not liking him are way too complicated so I won’t insult him so much.
Favorite TGCF character: Hua Cheng!!!!!!!
Least favorite TGCF character: I don’t have a least favorite character.
3.
Favorite SVSSS male character aside from LBH and SQQ: MoBei-Jun and LiuQingGe. I’m not troubling myself with trying to choose between them.
Favorite SVSSS female character: I used to be torn between Sha HuaLing and Liu MingYan, but SHL follows my general preferences way more so she wins.
Favorite MDZS male character aside from WWX: Wen Ning. He deserves all the love in the world. All of it. Also I really love Nie MingJue and Xiao XingChen.
Favorite MDZS female character: Jiang Yanli (because I fell in love with her gentle personality while watching The Untamed and I can’t bear myself to stop loving her). Wen Qing is right up there with her.
Favorite TGCF male character aside from HC: well, first of all Xie Lian. Second of all, Bai WuXiang and He Xuan.
Favorite TGCF female character: Ling Wen, but only because I don’t count Shi QingXuan as a fully fledged female (I am too in love with both forms to choose one side, sorry guys).
4. (they’re all going to be the main ones, lol)
Favorite canon SVSSS ship: Shen QingQiu x Luo BingHe, though... MoBei-Jun x Shang QingHua is a really close second.
Least favorite canon SVSSS ship: I don’t think I have one? I mean, there’s not much material to examine when it comes to canon pairings.
Favorite canon MDZS ship: Wei WuXian x Lan Wangji.
Least favorite canon MDZS ship: it’s not really a ship (I think, maybe it’s just me?) but whatever they tried to do with Jiang Cheng and Wen Qing in the drama doesn’t sit right with me. For reasons that are a bit more complicated than it seems, and that would need me explaining my opinion about JC first.
Favorite canon TGCF ship: Hualian! Hualian! Hualian! Hua Cheng x Xie Lian is one of my all time favorite ships, in general. I stand by the statement “Hualian invented love”.
Least favorite canon TGCF ship: that weird bullshit the mortal realm like to do with Shi QingXuan and Shi Wudu. Poor guys. It’s canon only because their perverted followers say so.
5.
Favorite non-canon SVSSS ship: I don’t think I have one...? Maybe ZhuZhi-Lang and TianLang-Jun, but I’m still way too confused about that. I know people ship a lot Liu QingGe and Shen QingQiu, but I never saw the appeal of it.
Least favorite non-canon SVSSS ship: again, don’t have one, mostly because I never delved too deeply in the world of non-canon SVSSS ships.
Favorite non-canon MDZS ship: Xiao XingChen x Song Lan. It’s probably the pairing that makes the most sense (to me) out of everyone else. And it’s heartbreaking, so bonus points for that.
Least favorite non-canon MDZS ship: Xiao XingChen x Xue Yang. [heavy spoiler alert] I absolutely HATE this pairing. I love Xue Yang, he’s an amazing villain, but this pairing is straight up abuse, no matter how you look at it. I am a sucker for angsty shit, but I really draw the line at the fucked up pairing that is this one. Xue Yang literally destroyed Xiao XingChen psychologically, lied to him for years, gaslighted him, forced him to kill innocent people, forced him to kill Song Lan, and then ended up ruining him so much that Xiao XingChen killed himself and destroyed his own soul.
I have no idea why people love this pairing so much, but I genuinely hate it. There’s nothing redeeming about it.
Another ship I don’t like is Jiang Cheng x Lan XiChen, but once again this has more convoluted reasons that revolve around JC, mainly. There’s also Lan XiChen x Jin GuangYao. Please, no. I really don’t like it.
Favorite non-canon TGCF ship: Pei Ming x Shi Wudu and He Xuan x Shi QingXuan. We all know why beefleaf is important in our hearts, so let me explain something about Pei Ming and Shi Wudu; this pairing doesn’t mean I completely disregard everything else about Pei Ming. He’s our good old manwhore womanizer and I haven’t changed that (too much). But this pairing... in my headcanon, which is something I’m also going to write in my desperate attempt and being a good fanfic writer, Pei Ming fell in love with him so hard that he was like “okay, fine, there’s just you now, I’m done with sleeping around”. After Shi Wudu dies, Pei Ming keeps his word and doesn’t cheat on him for the reminder of his life. My own headcanon is the reason why this is my favorite non-canon ship. I stumbled into it my complete chance, but I genuinely love it.
Least favorite non-canon TGCF ship: anything that has Xie Lian and Hua Cheng not with each other. I don’t like seeing them paired with anyone else.
6.
Favorite SVSSS weapon/tool: Xin Mo and Xiu Ya.
Favorite MDZS weapon/tool: Chenqing
Favorite TGCF weapon/tool: E-Ming and Fang Xin

no art for this week bc its been crazy so have 1.7k of alternate ending/sequel to Sleeping Awake (my de-aged shen jiu fic). This was where I was going with the original before I decided I wanted to focus more on the qijiu, so some of the stuff in the beginning is repeated. If I was writing a sequel (which I probably won’t), then this would probably be how it started.
“Take one of my robes?” Yue Qingyuan asked, voice small.
Shen Qingqiu hesitated, his awareness of how underdressed he was going to war with the instinct to refuse anything from Yue Qingyuan. He’d spent the last however-many-decades violently exploding every time Yue Qingyuan gave him a gift. He’d assumed they’d been given out of pity or obligation, expensive baubles to cover up the dirt of Shen Jiu’s past.
But—
He really was very underdressed. This robe was one of the outfits he’d worn to sneak out to the Warm Red Pavilion, back when he’d been a lesser disciple and in need of subterfuge to get off his Peak.
Wordlessly, Shen Qingqiu picked up Yue Qingyuan’s outer robe from where they’d carelessly dumped it the night before and slid it over his arms. It was a little too big and he chafed at wearing another person’s colors, but the look on Yue Qingyuan’s face was worth it.
With a sarcastic wave, Shen Qingqiu turned on his heel and strode from his room.
The robe was a little less worth it when Yue Qingyuan’s head disciple dropped a teapot in shock when she saw him.
He ignored her. She was the overly candid girl who’d intercepted him and Luo Binghe yesterday, but that didn’t surprise him. Yue Qingyuan was too soft with his disciples, and she was clever. Of course she would be outspoken.
At the thought of Luo Binghe, Shen Qingqiu grimaced. He’d specifically ordered that the beast wasn’t to be fed all weekend. Ning Yingying had probably ignored that and brought him food anyways, charmed as she was by Luo Binghe’s pretty, pitiable face.
He should lock him in the woodshed for another week, just for that.
The thought made him falter, and he spared a moment to be intensely grateful that nobody was around to see him trip on nothing.
He’d always told himself that he was nothing like Qiu Jianluo. That he’d only ever beaten boys who deserved it, that they should be grateful that he hadn’t done worse.
He’d never touched any of them, after all, no matter what the rumors said about him.
But his younger self hadn’t even needed to think before equating Luo Binghe’s shizun with Qiu Jianluo.
That was another revelation, Shen Qingqiu supposed, to add on to all the others he was having. He didn’t like that one very much. It wasn’t earth-shatteringly surprising in the way that Yue Qingyuan’s apparently unconditional devotion was.
Perhaps that said something about him.
He didn’t like that very much either.
He was still turning the matter over in his mind when he arrived at Qing Jing Peak’s familiar landscape. It was late enough in the day that his disciples should already be at their lessons, and they would survive a few more hours without him.
The bamboo house was almost exactly as he’d left it, but somebody had made his bed and moved the black and silver fan—Yue Qingyuan’s latest gift—onto a table. It was a deceptively plain thing, despite the value of its skeleton. Shen Qingqiu suspected that the painting—bamboo and distant birds—had been done by Yue Qingyuan himself. It had the hesitant, detailed brushwork of somebody unused to painting but had tried their best anyways.
It was the most sentimental gift that Yue Qingyuan had ever given him. His other gifts were impersonal things worth exorbitant amounts of money that suit Shen Qingqiu’s carefully cultivated image.
Shen Qingqiu would’ve thrown them away, if there wasn’t some part of him that balked at wasting that much money. Mostly, they just languished in the backs of drawers or vanished into boxes. He’d thrown some of the more egregious pieces into Yue Qingyuan’s face.
The fan was different, though. He could see the time that Yue Qingyuan had spent on it, could see the care and emotion poured into every brush stroke.
It’d broken him.
With a sigh, Shen Qingqiu shrugged off the borrowed robe and, after a beat, laid it out on his bed. His own clothes were more complex. His younger self would have despaired at all the finicky ties and complicated layers, but Shen Qingqiu managed with ease.
With each layer he pulled on, the more that strange, nervous energy in his chest settled. It was as if something inside of him had been knocked off-kilter by his qi deviation and then shoved even further askew by the discovery that Yue Qingyuan had returned for him and the sudden realization that he’d come far too close to the line that Qiu Jianluo had drawn.
The clothes made him feel more like himself. A doubtful boon, given the scum that he was.
He turned to leave again but then hesitated, eyes lingering on his bed. Yue Qingyuan’s robes were a streak of shadow across the green sheets.
He’d been so afraid, when he’d woken up the morning before.
He wondered if Qiu Haitang was still alive. He hoped she was. He hoped she was happy.
Was that fucked up?
Maybe.
Setting his jaw, Shen Qingqiu snatched the closest fan—Yue Qingyuan’s fan, the one that had started this all—and swept from the room. He made his way towards the woodshed with a calm, steady stride, the black and silver fan held loosely in his hand.
He could see the distant shapes of his disciples running around the mountain, tiny blobs of white and green. A sudden anxiety struck him, so sharply that the fan creaked as his grip tightened around it.
What if Luo Binghe had told them?
Shen Qingqiu couldn’t imagine how his disciples—the children of wealthy lords and poor farmers alike—would look at him if they learned that he was nothing more than a worthless slave.
A couple of his disciples—the quicker ones, talking cheerfully while their peers tried to finish their laps around the peak—noticed him and ran over. Shen Qingqiu panicked and opened his fan with a flick of his wrist, raising it over his face.
“Shizun!” the short-haired girl—Lin Xieran—called, as uncomplicatedly delighted to see him as ever. Neither of them looked alarmed or disgusted. If anything, they seemed a little more cheerful than usual to see him, although they were well trained enough to bow instead of run up him and cling.
Shen Qingqiu rewarded them both with gentle pats on the head. If his hand trembled, none of them mentioned it.
Luo Binghe, he thought, that off-kilter uncertainty creeping back into his chest, What game are you playing?
Well. He would find out soon enough. Voice as smooth as ever, Shen Qingqiu asked, “Where is your Ming-shixiong?”
The shorter one—a round-faced boy named Sun Tiandou who looked younger than he was—wrinkled his nose. “Ming-shixiong is still running with everybody else.”
Shen Qingqiu nodded imperiously. That was good. Ming Fan had been raised by respectable parents on a comfortable estate, and so he was prone to panicking over even the most minor of injuries. If he’d gone out to run willingly without his shizun’s prompting, then he couldn’t be terribly injured. “Good. And—” The beast died in his tongue.
Had Qiu Jianluo called him a beast? He couldn’t remember.
“—and Luo Binghe?”
Sun Tiandou’s expression tilted uncomfortably, but Lin Xieran’s lip curled at the name. “Oh,” she said, waving a hand flippantly, “He’s still in the woodshed.”
Shen Qingqiu idly poked at his newfound disgust with himself and discovered that it didn’t extend far enough to compel him to scold Xieran for her coldness. “Very good,” he said instead, “You’ve both done well today.”
Their expressions turned instantly starstruck, and Shen Qingqiu continued down the path towards the woodshed.
To his displeasure, there was a figure sitting against the woodshed’s door. He would’ve thought it was Luo Binghe if it weren’t for the bright orange of Ning Yingying’s favorite hair ribbons. She spotted him and leaped to her feet, waving her arm with the enthusiasm of a child who’d never been punished before.
Shen Qingqiu flicked his fan open and waved it gently at his face. “What are you do—” All his breath left him in a rush as Ning Yingying threw herself at him, hands flying around his waist.
Shen Qingqiu sighed and waited for her to let go. She did quickly enough, dancing back a couple steps and grinning up at him. “Shizun!”
He examined her over the edge of his fan, tracing the shape of her bright brown eyes and her round face. He wondered if she really did look like Qiu Haitang, or if his mind had just seen a bright girl with gentle smiles and made the connection for him. “What is Yingying doing here?”
Ning Yingying’s expressions turned as sly as it ever went. Mostly she just ducked her head and scuffed her feet. “Yingying is, um—” She looked around, spotted the dirty dishes lying where she’d been sitting earlier, and hastily said, “Cleaning! Yingying is cleaning.”
Shen Qingqiu raised one eyebrow and didn’t bother replying.
Ning Yingying fidgeted with the edge of her sleeve. “And, um, waiting for Shizun!” She looked up, lips curling into a hopeful smile. “This one is glad that Shizun is feeling better!”
Fear beat another staccato rhythm against Shen Qingqiu’s spine, a desperate rattling of what did Luo Binghe say. He revealed none of it on his face. “Did Yingying bring food to Luo Binghe during his punishment?”
Ning Yingying visibly drooped. “He’s so small, Shizun—”
Shen Qingqiu opened his mouth and then shut it, feeling suddenly tired. The rebuke on the tip of his tongue faded, and he just sighed. “Take the plates back to the kitchens.”
Ning Yingying peeked up at him, hope lighting her eyes. “Yes, Shizun!” She ran to grab the plates and then scuttled back, eyes wide. “Shizun isn’t going to punish A-Luo, right? He didn’t ask me to bring the food.”
Any other day, and Shen Qingqiu’s temper would have flared at the familiar address. Instead, he just said sharply, “I’ve warned you to keep your distance from him, Yingying. Do as I say.”
Ning Yingying nodded. “Yes, Shizun.”
Liar. He didn’t call her on it, though. “Go.”
She sketched a bow, shallower than she should’ve, and dashed off. But that was alright, because she was his favorite and she knew it.

And since I did promise writing prompts... @mirikins sent -
MXTX love interests gushing about their husbands to each other!
Remember when I said this would be short? LMAO.
Anyway, under a cut cause of citrus content.
Tags: consensual infidelity (indications that all six of these people are sleeping around with each other), canon bottoms and tops, asexual/sex averse Shen Yuan, idek what else
"Well, my husband?" said Wei Ying with a smug smile. "He's into all the kinky stuff. Even let me experiment with his sword! Anything I want? Green light, he's ready to go. And he's one of the greatest cultivators in the world. AND he waited for me for 13 years!"
Shen Yuan rolled his eyes. And who, exactly, would want that? Binghe suggested kinky shit all the time, and no fucking thank you.
"Wasn't it 16 years?" asked Xie Lian gently.
"Eh, whatever." Wei Ying waved away the correction. "Toh-may-toh, toh-mah-toh. The point is: he's a kinky ho and I love him. I'll lend you his incense burner sometime. With how long you and the big H-C pined for each other? You'll love it."
"Um. Thank you. I'll...keep that in mind." Cheeks gently pinked, Xie Lian hid what might have been a laugh behind a raised hand, his creepy bracers thing wiggling in reaction to his suppressed discomfort. "San Lang is the best. He cherishes me! And, ya know, murders anyone who gives me trouble. And he can change his shape, his height, his...well, you get the idea. He's really the best." By the time he'd finished speaking, his pleasure and amusement seemed genuine; his eyes sparkled and looked into the distance, like he could actually see that freaky butterfly blood rain guy he always simped for.
Shen Yuan had a guy who would murder for him, and it was about 5,000 fewer "coolness" points than it was cracked up to be, no matter what the System said. And to all the rest...blech. No. What was with these two?
And why were they both looking at him expectantly?
"What?" he demanded, flipping his fan open and raising it to cover his face so he could side-eye them more effectively.
"Won't you speak for your husband?" Xie Lian suggested; Shen Yuan didn't bother repressing his grimace at the term husband.
"Yeah, Luo Binghe seems like the best of both those, right? Total slut, and murderous hell-beast!"
...not inaccurate...
"San Lang is not a hell-beast!"
...but god did Shen Yuan not want to talk about it...
"Murderous ghost king, my bad."
...maybe, if Wei Ying and Xie Lian squabbled long enough, they'd forget they'd asked him a question.
"Better, thank you."
Silence.
They were looking at him expectantly again.
Fuck my life.
"Luo Binghe is..." Trying to think of literally any answer, Shen Yuan frowned, forehead furrowing...and then an idea struck him, and he grinned. "Oh, he's the best lover in the world." The two exchanged a look; Xie Lian's cheeks pinked again, and Wei Ying licked his lips. "And hung - seriously, his dick? Enormous." There was undisguised hunger on Wei Ying's face, and a twitch of white robes near Xie Lian's waist. "Don't get me wrong. I've read your books. Your guys? Sound amazing, too. But if kink and size are what you like?" He paused and enjoyed watching them each noticeably doing the mental calculations. "Woohee, amazing. And, if I may add...he loves a good orgy."
"I would never!" exclaimed Xie Lian.
"...I might..." Wei Ying murmured thoughtfully.
"He's home now...why not check with your hubby's?" Shen Yuan suggested.
"You won't mind?" Xie Lian asked.
"Pssh," Shen Yuan laughed, actually genuine. "I read 4 million words about him fucking other people. As long as you guys have fun, and he has fun, that's enough for me."
"Oh..."
"Hm..."
"Be my guest," Shen Yuan said with a gracious wave of his fan toward his and Luo Binghe's palace. Luo Binghe had promised to fuck him senseless when he got back.
The other two hesitated.
As if Shen Yuan wanted to get fucked senseless. Again.
The other two exchanged a long look.
Luo Binghe was exhausting. All Shen Yuan wanted was a break!
The other two broke into matched sprints, robes streaming behind them as they ran toward the palace.
They all knew that Hua Cheng and Lan Wangji wouldn't mind; Hua Cheng would likely protest not being invited, and as long as Wei Ying was honest with Lan Wangji, it'd be a non-issue. All four were so invested in seeing their husbands happy, as long as consent was established it was a non-issue. Shen Yuan knew for a fact that Xie Lian and Wei Ying had exchanged husbands at least twice.
They'd never offered to share with Shen Yuan, nor asked after Luo Binghe. He'd always wondered why...well, he still didn't know the answer, but at least now he knew it wasn't for lack of interest. When Luo Binghe found out Shen Yuan had sanctioned this...Shen Yuan was about 99.9% sure he wouldn't mind either.
A twinge of jealousy seeped down Shen Yuan's spine, then dissipated.
Luo Binghe would do it...because he knew it would make Shen Yuan happier to watch than Shen Yuan ever was being fucked.
And Shen Yuan knew that enthusiastic partners would make Luo Binghe feel better, at least physically, than Shen Yuan ever could with his tolerance and acceptance that sex was something Luo Binghe needed, but not something Shen Yuan needed, or even particularly wanted.
Xie Lian and Wei Ying would get fucked by what Shen Yuan was positive would be the biggest schlong they'd ever seen.
Lan Wangji and Hua Cheng would get to simp and show how much they adored their spouses by indulging them...and, given what Shen Yuan had unfortunately learned of their proclivities, also likely enjoy the sloppy seconds.
Luo Binghe would finally get two bottoms to exhaust him.
And Shen Yuan would get a nice, long nap...after he rubbed one or two out while playing voyeur.
Everyone would get what they wanted.
Shen Yuan couldn't have arranged things better if he'd tried...he had tried...the whole conversation had been his idea...
It was worth sharing, because it would make Luo Binghe happy.
And, though he'd never admit it even under pain of death...Shen Yuan couldn't possibly value his husband's happiness higher, or love him more.
Luo Binghe would be happy.
That was all Shen Yuan ever needed.

Hey I originally followed you for YOI stuff and since that seems to be on haitus, I have seen you and a lot of people rebloing stuff about a different anime or manga (i think) with different mlm relationships? I think they're two diff shows and I've heard about mdzs before. But lately youve been reblogging stuff from a manga tagged tgcf and it looks pretty cool--so i was wondering how I could get into it and what its about? Does it have actual gay charas?
Hello! I’m sorry for the late response! This morphed from a simple answer into a beginner guide of sorts, so I hope you don’t mind! I know there’s like 500000 guides out there, but I figured I’d give it a shot too! ❤
So the stuff you’ve been seeing everywhere is indeed MDZS or related to it–including on my own blog! (I promise when YOI comes back from war, I’ll be all over that again ;o;!!!)
So these works are all by the same author, Mò Xiāng Tóng Xiù (MXTX) and they are separate danmei (i.e. Chinese BL) novels, though they share a lot of similarities between them:
MDZS (Mó Dào Zǔ Shī) – Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation
TGCF (Tiān Guān Cì Fú) – Heaven Official’s Blessing
SVSSS – Scum Villian’s Self-Saving System
All of them are complete and fan translated, and I’ll answer your last question first: yes, they have actual gay characters! In the novels, the main couples end up canonically married! \o/ In some of the adaptations, their romantic relationships are also maintained (e.g. the manhuas (Chinese graphic novel)), though censorship is present.
Links will be added below this post! Grab some popcorn, this is long!

MDZS《魔道祖师》is definitely the most popular work by MXTX, as it has the most adaptations. You’ve almost certainly been seeing gifs and photosets from its donghua (Chinese animation) or live action the most. However, it has a manhua and audio drama (in both Chinese and Japanese) as well!
Synopsis: Reviled as the infamous Yiling Laozu, Wei Wuxian harnessed the forbidden dark power of demonic cultivation. Once the cultivation world decided he was too dangerous to leave alone, he was hunted down, and a terrible battle ensued that cost Wei Wuxian his life—and the lives of many others. 13 years later, he is resurrected under mysterious circumstances into the body of the pariah Mo Xuanyu. Now with this second chance at life (and while hiding his real identity), Wei Wuxian has to uncover the truth about a powerful malevolent spirit. It may just be the key to revealing a series of heinous secrets hidden from the cultivation world for years. And while the world may still hate him for crimes he didn’t commit, there’s one person who’s on his side—the illustrious Hanguang-jun, Lan Wangji—and is willing to stand by him against all odds. The two have a long and complex history, and Wei Wuxian is unsure of Lan Wangji’s motivations for helping him. But it couldn’t be more simple: respect and love.

The great thing about MDZS is that you can really pick your poison in terms of what adaptation you want to get started with. If you are absolutely brand-new to the danmei scene, then starting with the donghua or manhua may be your best bet (both are ongoing). The novel of course is the most beloved, being the source, but all the adaptations have their own charms! They’re all worth checking out, and will keep you busy for quite a while.
・:*:・゚’★🌸TGCF🌸★・゚’・:*:・
Now, for TGCF《天官赐福》—that’s where my photosets are coming from: the ongoing manhua that started in October. There’s a donghua planned for late this year, and a live action in talks (info about that is largely unknown, but is slated for production sometime after the donghua release). TGCF actually has the same deal structure as MDZS apparently, so we’ll be getting an audio drama as well if that’s true.
Synopsis: Talented and virtuous, Crown Prince Xie Lian first ascended to the heavens when he was only 17. Once the darling of the earth and heavens for his boundless skill and purity of heart, he ended up falling from grace—not once, but twice! Subsequently, he became the laughing stock of the three realms. Spending almost 800 years roaming the earth and collecting scraps, he becomes known as the pitiful “rubbish god” and “god of misfortune.” No one could have expected Xie Lian to ascend for a third time, but fate seems to have something in store for this disgraced yet compassionate immortal. Thankfully, he is not alone, as the widely-feared ghost king, Hua Cheng, seems to have a special interest in helping him. The two of them embark on a series of adventures that unravel the secrets of their world, and of themselves.

The novel for TGCF is a great place to start, especially considering how the manhua is still in it’s early stages (just starting it’s 2nd arc as of writing this post). The novel is long, incredibly well-written, and well-translated. The manhua is absolutely stunning, and follows the novel very closely thus far.
・:*:・゚’★🎋SVSSS🎋★・゚’・:*:・
The underrated sibling of the three, SVSSS《人渣派自救系統 》has only the novel to interact with for right now. A donghua is planned for this year. There was a manhua, but it was cancelled due to some problems with the publisher afaik. Word on the street is that they’re searching for a new team for it, so we’ll continue to pray!!!
Synopsis: Shen Yuan is an avid reader of the web novel Proud Immortal Demon Way. The novel revolves around the protagonist Luo Binghe, a kind child who is tormented endlessly by his Shizun (teacher/mentor) Shen Qingqiu, until he turns into a powerful demon lord and exacts his violent revenge. While initially a fan of the story, Shen Yuan hates the unsatisfactory ending. Upon dying suddenly, he finds himself transmigrated into the novel, at the behest of The System—a sci-fi interface which gives him missions and directives. Unfortunately, he ends up in the place of the cruel Shen Qingqiu out of all people! This new Shen Qingqiu now has to use his knowledge of the novel to navigate around the plot, within the restrictions that The System has implemented. He has to find a way to ensure a better ending, if he wants to keep this second chance at life. His plan for doing this is to be as kind and encouraging as possible to the innocent Luo Binghe, who quickly takes a shine to this new Shen Qingqiu. Even after forced to the dark side, and despite the tension between them after this, Luo Binghe won’t let anyone else touch his beloved Shizun.

SVSSS only really has the novel to interact with as of right now. There’s currently an excellent re-translation in progress by tumblr user Faelicy! If you want to get started now, however, you can read what she’s done so far and then swap over to the old translation afterward.

Mafia Romcom (1/?)
Title: None Fandom: SVSSS Pairing(s): LBHxSY, LQGxSY, LBHxLQG, YQYxSQQ Warnings: unrealistic mafia, badly written romcom, unbeta’d Summary: Cang Qiong’s Shen Yuan has been kidnapped. His brother, Shen Qingqiu is in a frenzy. Liu Qingge and Cang Qiong’s greatest enemy, Luo Binghe, are determined to rescue him.  A/N: Thank you @freykugel, my favorite cannibal oniisan, for being patient with me and even reading some of it despite knowing fuck all about SVSSS, xianxia, and everything else. You are the best hyung I could ever ask for. This is what happens when the world is batshit insane, I’m allowed to play Piofiore and read yakuza manga, and know fuck-all about the Chinese Triad.
Liu Qingge is welcomed into the building with the muffled sounds of Shen Qingqiu shouting. A harassed looking underling bows, offering strained apologies and offering to bring breakfast up to his office soon. It isn’t the first time that Shen Qingqiu has thrown a fit that has shaken the Cang Qiong mansion to its foundation and it likely won’t be the last. No matter how soundproof Yue Qingyuan tries to make every room in the mansion, Shen Qingqiu’s voice carries. For a moment, Liu Qingge entertains the idea of tendering his resignation. When he reaches his office, all that will be waiting for him are piles of paperwork and an endless revolving door of men making their reports for their day. No matter how loyal he is to Cang Qiong, he feels his grip on his sanity bleed out through his ears with every tick of the clock as he is stuck behind a desk. He has done enough that he should be able to retire, surely? Weathering the continued existence of Shen Qingqiu is far and beyond his job description. Trading in a desk for freelance work is a daydream that helps Liu Qingge pass the tedium of his current position more often than he’d like to admit. Enough of his men have looked terrified during their daily reports as he silently sharpened Cheng Luan for word to spread that Cang Qiong’s head enforcer likes to threaten his underperforming underlings with the sword. Liu Mingyan had burst into laughter when the rumor had finally reached her. It keeps his men on his toes, so he lets it be. (If he imagines throwing himself out the nearest window, Cheng Luan in hand, and making a break for freedom, far, far away from paperwork and the endless droning of reports, no one but Liu Mingyan needs to know this. Everyone is allowed to dream.) Yue Qingyuan, as ill-suited to the mafia life as any leader can be, would likely let him leave with minimal fuss and no demands for recompense. If anything, Liu Qingge suspects Yue Qingyuan may actually send him off with a farewell party. Everyone knows how often Liu Qingge’s the trigger of one of Shen Qingqiu’s infamous temper tantrums behind closed doors. As excellent as Liu Qingge is at his job, Yue Qingyuan would be relieved to have Shen Qingqiu’s Most Hated Enemy #2 out of the way. After all, even the boss’s husband would have a difficult time throwing out one of Cang Qiong’s inner circle without good reason. It may have been easy to get rid of Luo Binghe, who had no reputation, power, or influence to his name, but the Liu Clan has a long and illustrious history, influence, power, and more money than it knows what to do with. Getting on the clan’s bad side would cause Cang Qiong more headache than Shen Qingqiu in all his righteous fury can. Shen Qingqiu’s voice ratchets up another dozen decibels. Liu Qingge thinks he can make out a few of the words. He signs a few more documents, checks the clock, and considers taking a break before the first of his men reports. Tea with Shen Yuan in the garden sounds appealing. He straightens his hair, smooths any wrinkles out of his waistcoat and resists licking his lips nervously. Maybe he should drop by the bathroom before visiting Shen Yuan’s office, make sure he is presentable. Don’t be stupid, he tells himself, even as he feels himself flushing. Five years working with the man and he still has all the dignity of a three year old when it comes to Shen Yuan. Shen Qingqiu’s voice continues to get louder. He’s nearly at the door when it is thrown open by Shen Qingqiu who proceeds to brush him aside. Yue Qingyuan sweeps in after his husband, shooting Liu Qingge a pitying look as he politely shuts the door behind him. If only he hadn’t taken the half-second to fix his hair, he despairs. He could’ve been long gone before Shen Qingqiu decided to descend like a plague of locusts. “Find him!” Shen Qingiu roars as he paces back and forth in Liu Qingge’s office, hair in disarray and face surprisingly pale. “Who?” Liu Qingge grunts as he reluctantly returns to his seat. “Shen Yuan!” Shen Qingiu slams his hand down on Liu Qingge’s desk, sending papers flying. The monitor shakes ominously, threatening to fall. Liu Qingge eyes the splintered surface and feels his own rage building. Until the name sinks in. He can feel the blood drain from his face as well. He turns to Yue Qingyuan who looks uncharacteristically strained. “Explain,” he demands. ---- In between the shouting and Cheng Luan being threateningly brandished against an inconsolable and raging Shen Qingqiu, Liu Qingge has understood three things: 1. Shen Yuan has gone missing. He is not answering his phone. The app Shen Qingqiu had secretly installed on his phone isn’t working. He cannot be located. 2. Shen Yuan was last seen the night before, wishing his brother good night before retreating to his quarters. 3. Shen Qingqiu is convinced Luo Binghe has him. Liu Qingge hates agreeing with Shen Qingqiu about anything. They once got into an argument over the weather because he couldn’t bring himself to agree with the other man. But Liu Qingge can’t help but agree that if Shen Yuan has gone missing, the prime suspect is his ex-disciple Luo Binghe. It’s no secret how much Luo Binghe desires his old teacher. Which is why Liu Qingge wastes no time in delegating his duties to Yang Yixuan and marching over to Huan Hua’s estate and demanding a meeting with Luo Binghe. He had told Yue Qingyuan not to worry, had explained that it would just be an exploratory meeting. It had been clear Yue Qingyuan hadn’t believed him, but Liu Qingge doesn’t feel too guilty about breaking into Huan Hua and raiding the estate. If Luo Binghe has Shen Yuan, he’d keep him close. Shen Yuan will definitely be on the premises. If Shen Yuan isn’t there, then that’s one suspect off the list. It isn’t his job to play detective, anyways. If either Yue Qingyuan or Shen Qingqiu had expected subterfuge or delicacy in handling the situation, they shouldn’t have turned to him, the head of Cang Qiong’s hitmen. They could have turned to Qing Qi and her hand picked spies or even sent some of Shen Yuan’s own grifters to put out feelers and gather information. One does not take out a hammer when precision work is necessary. If anyone is at fault, it’s Shen Qingqiu’s fault for demanding Liu Qingge to find his brother. (Liu Qingge ignores the Liu Mingyan in his head that giggles at his flimsy excuses. He’s absolutely not as emotionally compromised as Shen Qingqiu is. He’s making perfectly sound decisions. What else had they expected a trained assassin to do? He can’t smile and make small talk, tricking a target into exposing sensitive information like Shen Yuan does. What he can do is kill a man in seventeen different ways with his bare hands while blindfolded and shoot moving target with pinpoint accuracy at over six hundred meters. His only skills are beating people for information and killing people for information. He’s just playing to his strengths.) He tosses one terrified looking Huan Hua thug out a window and points Cheng Luan at another before taking a deep breath and hollering. “LUO BINGHE. COME OUT!” He waits one second, then two. After the third, he angrily incapacitates the terrified flunky hiding behind a potted plant and takes the stairs up. Wading through the endless waves of Huan Hua trash that come crawling out like cockroaches, Liu Qingge does his best to avoid permanently injuring or killing any of them. There’s no reason to start a war if Shen Yuan isn’t here. (But he is; he definitely is.) After half an hour of crushing every person who even tries to stop him, Liu Qingge makes it to a heavy set of doors. Luo Binghe’s office. “Luo Binghe!” The man in question sits behind his gleaming rosewood desk, Sha Hualing perched on the end of it, twirling her hair. Luo Binghe smiles thinly at Liu Qingge. “To what do I owe this pleasure?” he asks lightly. “I never expected the great War God of Cang Qiong to visit Huan Hua.” Liu Qingge twitches. “Return Shen Yuan,” he commands, Cheng Luan still pointed at Luo Binghe. Luo Binghe’s smile gets sharper, “If Shizun has had enough of Cang Qiong and wishes to be with his dearest disciple, I see why I should send him back.” “No reason?” Liu Qingge resists stabbing the smug bastard immediately. “Is death not enough motivation?” “Death?” Luo Binghe laughs lowly, “I’m not the one courting it.” Sha Hualing rolls her eyes, rising from the desk with smooth grace. “I’ll go check on our...products,” she says as she leaves, shooting Luo Binghe a look that speaks thousands of words, all of them which make Liu Qingge turn crimson. “Shameless!” He bites out, head turning from Sha Hualing’s retreating back to Luo Binghe, before swiveling right back. “Shameless!” He repeats, face hotter than it should be. Luo Binghe retrieves Xin Mo from its place of honor on the wall even as he taunts Liu Qingge, “Cheng Luan, really? Is Cang Qiong so old fashioned that even its War God brings outdated weaponry to battle?” “As if the peashooters your men had were of any use,” Liu Qingge snorts. No gun, no matter how powerful it is, is dead weight in the hands of the incompetent. “You know as well as I do how useful good steel can be,” he continues as Luo Binghe draws Xin Mo. There’s a heartbeat as they both size each other up. Liu Qingge readjusts his stance, eyes Luo Binghe’s shifting his grip on Xin Mo. They’re about to strike, when the doors slam open. “BOSS! Shen Yuan has been kidnapped!” Liu Qingge’s murderous rage shifts. “SHANG QINGHUA!” Shang Qinghua stands in the doorway to Luo Binghe’s office, eyes wide. He trembles. “L-L-Liu Qingge?” He stammers. “BOSS?” Liu Qingge repeats, pointing Cheng Luan at the suddenly stiff Luo Binghe. “LUO BINGHE?” If it were possible, Shang Qinghua would probably melt through the floor. “Kidnapped?” Luo Binghe repeats, voice dangerously low. Shang Qinghua shivers more. He looks on the verge of tears. “Explain. Now.”

In the never ending series of “things that aren’t wips because I can’t, I have to finish something before starting something else”, have this thing I posted as a wip before, featuring a version of PIDW where LBH collected his harem... differently, with guest star NYY.
Luo Binghe immediately recognises the man dressed in cultivator garb as Yingying’s shizun.
Beautiful and serene, she said. The perfect image of an untouchable immortal, dressed in white and pale greens. Always holding a fan of exquisite manufacture.
But more than her vivid descriptions of her shizun’s loveliness, he remembers what she said next.
She’d been lying on her side, her long cascading hair not managing to hide her luscious curves.
Luo Binghe had known she wouldn’t be ready for another round just yet, and so had been pleased to listen to her lighthearted pillow talk.
Today’s topic had been her exasperation with her shizun’s lack of sex life.
“Sometimes I can’t believe how obtuse he is. Liu-shishu has been courting him for years, and I don’t think he ever noticed. And don’t get me started on the sect master! All Shizun would have to do is bat his eyelashes and the sect master would drop everything to worship him! But no, he never takes him on it. For a while I thought maybe Shizun just preferred women, but more than one female disciple has tried her hand at him, all to no avail.”
Luo Binghe could imagine the type. Cultivators could be lofty. They think they’re above the needs of the flesh.
He always enjoys teaching them how wrong they are.
If the demonic part of his heritage revels in desecrating those pompous righteous cultivators, no one else could tell. Luo Binghe was too good at his chosen hobby to let his personal feelings interfere.
“I love and respect Shizun more than anyone. Without him, I would never have become the kind of cultivator who can afford A-Luo’s company. So I am motivated by filial piety and nothing else when I say that I have never met anyone who needs to get laid more than Shen Qingqiu.”
Luo Binghe had laughed. “Oh? Is Yingying going to replace me with her old teacher?”
Her scandalised look had sent him into another bout of laughter. “A-Luo! I would never!”
“Then why is she telling me this? Does she want me to take care of him?”
Ning Yingying had stared at him, a glint in her eyes. Luo Binghe could see the plans form in her head as she spoke. “Actually, that wouldn’t be a bad idea. It would do wonders for Shizun, and I know A-Luo loves breaking people like him.”
Luo Binghe had blinked, inwardly caught off-guard. He wasn’t blind. He knew Ning Yingying was a lot more observant than she appeared. It wasn’t the first time she had made that kind of comment. “Yingying knows me so well. Should I be worried?”
She had swapped at him. He could have easily evaded the blow, but he didn’t bother. “A-Luo doesn’t have anything to fear from me. But honestly, if I sent Shizun your way, would you take care of him? I really think he could benefit from it. And Shizun is very beautiful! Many will definitely be jealous if they ever find out.”
Luo Binghe had nothing against the idea of taking a peak lord to bed. He bet Xin Mo would love to feed on such high-quality cultivation. “I would be honored to entertain your teacher.”
He could tell from the way she had brightened he was about to be thoroughly thanked.
She had paid him too, both for herself and for her shizun’s future visit. Generously enough that Luo Binghe had wondered if he should praise her filial piety to her shizun.
She didn’t lie either. Shen Qingqiu really is exquisite.
Not as handsome as Luo Binghe himself, but nobody is. “You must be Shen Qingqiu.”
“Luo Binghe, I presume.” Luo Binghe cannot quite decipher the look he’s being given, which is rare enough to catch his attention. He’s pretty certain there’s some attraction there, but the rest? Trepidation? Outright fear? Disdain? Excitement?
He’s sure he’s going to find out. He gestures for Shen Qingqiu to sit down as he moves to prepare tea. He could have one of his servants handle it, but Luo Binghe has always preferred taking care of things himself. That personal touch has seduced more than one client, if they didn’t visit him only for his food.
Shen Qingqiu drinks the offered tea in silence before he starts talking. “If you would please tell me your fee, I will be refunding Ning Yingying a corresponding amount. I am sorry for wasting your time, but I have no interest in procuring your services.”
Ooh, that’s cute. If Luo Binghe wasn’t an expert at perceiving the signs of physical attraction, he might even believe him. Shen Qingqiu is interested, he’s sure of it. He’s just a prude, like Yingying said. “Yingying won’t accept it. Why refuse her most thoughtful gift?”
“My disciple should put her money to better uses.”
“I assure you, employing me is money well spent. You could find that out yourself.”
Luo Binghe bites back his amusement as the man stumbles, obviously embarrassed. “I didn’t mean to imply you weren’t… a credit to your profession. Please don’t take it personally. As I said, I have no interest in finding out myself.”
“But how will it look if you were to leave without finding out? My reputation will be hurt.”
“How could something this insignificant hurt the reputation of such a famous courtesan?”
Luo Binghe grins. “So even renowned cultivators have heard of me? Nothing bad, I hope?” And where did an isolated scholar like him caught wind of such lowbrow rumours, huh?
The sigh he’s answered with does not cloak a hint of amusement. “How many of the sect’s disciples have you seduced? You even managed to steal away Liu-shidi’s little sister, whose beauty and virtu are known across the land. Of course I have heard of you. More than I would have liked, if I am allowed to be honest.”
Ah. He should probably have expected that. Cang Qiong is full of eager young men and women. Apparently, Shen Qingqiu isn’t such a recluse that gossip doesn’t reach him. “I see. Still, you must have heard good things, or you wouldn’t have come into my parlour.”
Red is a good look on the man. Luo Binghe feels the first stirrings of desire rise into him. He just knows Shen Qingqiu would be stunning, lying despoiled on those formerly pristine robes, trying to discover what he’s begging for more of.
Not to mention he can almost hear Xin Mo purr. What a feast Shen Qingqiu will be.
Time to press on.
Luo Binghe reaches for the now empty cup of tea he’s certain Shen Qingqiu drained without tasting, making sure to caress the fingers still holding it with a touch just light enough to possibly be accidental, if one were very dumb or very blind. “Let me serve you again,” he says as he pours more tea with deliberate grace.
Instead, Shen Qingqiu rises from the table. “Don’t bother! I am obviously wasting your valuable time. If you won’t share with me how much Ning Yingying paid you, I will compensate her otherwise.”
Like Luo Binghe is letting him leave like this. “Would you have me waste the tea already prepared?”
“Drink it yourself! Surely it’s nothing compared to your usual breaches of propriety.”
Damn it. Luo Binghe miscalculated. Shen Qingqiu is too spooked to be open to further advances. Really, what a prude, to be so destabilised by a simple brush of hands.
If he can take a step back and defuse the tension enough for him not to leave… “You seem in such a hurry. Do you think I force myself on my visitors? I’m hurt.” As if he ever needed to use force to have someone.
Well, never without their consent, at least.
Shen Qingqiu doesn’t seem like he’d be into that, but then again, people can surprise you.
“I’m not scared! I just have no reason to be here any longer. Thank you for your time. I’ll be leaving my student in your care.” For a moment, there’s a glower in his eyes that Luo Binghe wouldn’t mind seeing more of. “Be good to her, or my next visit will be far less pleasant.”
Aww. Shen Qingqiu cares! How cute. “So I have to get a bit rough if I want to see you again?”
His outraged face almost makes him laugh. “Don’t you dare!”
“Or are you looking for an excuse for our paths to cross again? I assure you it’s unnecessary. I’d welcome you anytime.”
“I will keep that in mind,” says Shen Qingqiu absentmindedly, already crossing the door.
Luo Binghe lets him leave. Obviously, this will be going nowhere today.
Really, he’s offended. He cannot remember someone rejecting him so blatantly, ever. Worse, Xin Mo will be cranky. A treat was dangled in its metaphorical face, and then was cruelly taken away before it could have a taste.
He can’t let this humiliation stand.
He won’t have to. The delicate fan Shen Qingqiu came with, red spider lilies on a stark white background, is still on the table, forgotten in his haste to leave.
Luo Binghe’s customer service is impeccable. He’ll be returning the abandoned item himself.
It’s not like finding the peak lord of Qing Jing will be a challenge.

Finished Main Story of SVSSS....
So yeah, I did that. I still really liked the story overall. Some parts are a bit problematic in a way, but also in a satisfying way that is complex and I think can refer to some real life relationships and complexities of that because not all relationships fit nicely into the little boxes and labels that we make and that’s my take away from the ending.
-Don’t like the in-story “original author” still, but also don’t dislike him as much as I did when I started the story now that I got more of his perspective. MXTX posted all of this for free not thinking it would go anywhere really, but it’s true that some people do have careers where they make a living off of their webnovels and fans buying chapters, so that pressure is there. I’m sure that because MXTX is also a fan of D. Gray-man, she’s aware of the similar pressures that even mangaka at JUMP face. Like BLEACH basically ended early because it fell out of popularity with the fans just as Airplane mentions happens to some novel works. To be fair, BLEACH also lifted an entire plotline from another popular supernatural manga including carbon copies of the lackeys of the villain for that arc, so some shade was also deserved. Like Yukio is just Amanuma Tsukihito with a PSP instead of an arcade system or Super Famicom. D. Gray-man itself has also been on hiaitus several times due to health concerns and such. Same as Hunter x Hunter and other prolific manga. The pressure is real and some ways the original author is kind of a mood. He’s also still a huge coward and that’s annoying.
-I feel worse for Shen Jiu than when I did when I was just reading his backstory off of the wikis and stuff from just wanting to see Shen Qingqiu’s beautiful face. Like I felt bad before, but after knowing more and witnessing some sentiments that would have been gut punches if Shen Jiu had heard them, I feel so bad for him. I don’t condone what he did, but I also get it and wish I could hug him. Basically about the same level of thought as I put into how much I like Emet-Selch, but I think overall in the end I love Emet-Selch more because the 5.3 patch update for FFXIV broke me. Man, that MSQ. Like I’ve never been opposed to liking villains and always thought some villains were cool. Like my sister worships Sephiroth from FFVII for instance, but like I was never really into Sephiroth’s motivations in that he’s cool, but his identity crisis didn’t quite strike me as like actually 100% believable that torching Nibelheim and trying to rescue Jenova was justified or a natural reaction someone in his position would have. I like him more than Cloud cuz Cloud is a hot fucking mess of a person and he’s overall just cool, but as a villain his motivations didn’t resonate with me.  A lot of people also really liked Kefka because he’s just straight up insane and like chaotic evil, but that kind of evil just isn’t compelling to me. Emet-Selch though straight up broke me and I thought about him for like months after the initial end of Shadowbringers when you do the fight with Hades. His story is ripe with meaning and nuance and the Tales from the Shadows stories adding more nuance and color to his eternal living torture of seeing remnants of people he cared about constantly without a break or a way to really “forget” and heal. That just stuck with me because I’ve lost people in my life too, and I remember what that was like and how hard it was to even live the day after let alone the following few years. I remember it well even today because it fundamentally changed me as a person, but I was able to find some relief and escape from music and entertainment and going out to have new experiences and travel. Emet-Selch could not, so his story really broke me internally. I bring this up just to make a comparison because I love Shen Jiu as well, but for nowhere near as dramatic a reason as I love Emet-Selch.
Spoilers under the cut
Okay, so since I was just talking about Shen Jiu, and maybe it’s partly because I actually find him to be gorgeous as well, but just reading his story did genuinely make me sad. I found his child form to be a little bit jaded already only because he was an older child already by the time he was bought by the Qius. When Yue Qingyuan was parting with him through the door he was being kind of manipulative there for extra sympathy initially, which isn’t really great. How severely the brother beat him though was hard to take. It was so extreme, like wtf? And perhaps the part where Qiu Haitang said that he’d been “freed” and the part where he was engaged seems to be true-ish, but yeah her brother is kind of really fucked up in how he still talks to him even though he is supposed to be his brother-in-law soon? Like what the hell. But like, the summaries of what he did online and even what Haitang had said also made it sound even more cold than it was. Like once he got going yeah, the onslaught was kind of cold. But he still had a moment of shock where like he didn’t really realize what he’d done right away and needed a moment to process. But after that it was like, well, it’s already done and people came to try to help the young master and he had to get out too. So the other people on the way out after that don’t sound nearly as consequential and it was really striking that not only did he not attack Haitang, but he spared all the other women in the house. Like Jesus Christ, were *ALL* the men in the house including the male servants and other slaves they had assholes to him too? Just, wow. But we don’t get a lot into what else happened there, but if the head of the household is bad and hurts him, it’s believable that other people join in just as Ming Fan joined in because Shen Jiu was complicit in allowing Binghe’s suffering. Really key though is the commentary of both the young master and his first evil master about his age.
That is such a huge chip on his shoulder because everyone keeps bringing it the fuck up. Including Qingge in another memory later on when he’s already Peak Lord. I know they don’t like each other, but that was really mean. I realize Qingge probably doesn’t care and that was the point to throw salt in his wounds because they don’t like each other, but seeing how much it affected him by him breaking his fan with his hands after hearing that. I’ve had people do similar to me where they make an insensitive comment to try to hurt you without understanding the actual circumstances. My sister did that to me once and I reconciled with her for a bit, but decided not to talk to her anymore again because of some other bullshit with her friends being childish. But when she did similar to me, I never really forgave her for it either. My story is not nearly as dramatic, but basically I had quit a job where I was being bullied by coworkers at the start of the recession and I was looking for jobs, but no luck with anything I was qualified for even though I went on a few interviews. There actually weren’t many listings posted around that time, so I would only be able to find a couple to apply to and by the time my sister came home I’d be playing games to pass the time cuz I was bored out of my mind waiting for something to happen. So then we got in an argument for I forget the initial reason anymore, but she brought up how I “wasn’t looking” for a job and just seemed to be “being lazy” and I just got so pissed and yelled at her that she had no fucking idea what I was doing everyday and that I am looking and there isn’t anything fucking there. I also lost it and threw a stool at her. I’m not proud of it, but I totally get the mood of what it feels like for someone to use something that you are struggling with as a negative to throw in your face even though you are trying *SO* hard to do your best. I especially don’t want to hear that from someone who gave up on their desired career that they were actually good at and making a decent living at for money and also can’t tell when their friends are kissing up to them and crossing a line and won’t stand up to them for being shitty people. Teapot meet kettle, and don’t throw stones if you live in a glass fucking house. I don’t like low blows like that.
My personal family issue aside though, I felt a lot of empathy for Shen Jiu in that moment. Seeing how he interacted with Binghe on their first meeting after that though, like I was sad for Binghe too, but I can also see where his misunderstanding happened on top of his insecurity. I also kind of wonder if Qingge’s comment also kind of encouraged this situation to happen.  I still like Qingge because he makes up for it a lot later, but yeah that was fucked up.
The gut punch later was when Qingyuan was seemingly dying and tried to apologize to Qingqiu, but all the words and the things Shen Jiu needed to hear. His years of misunderstanding and not knowing and being in pain and thinking he was abandoned. That was painful. Shen Jiu is gone. We don’t know where he is. Maybe he’s dead. No idea, but those are things he can never know. It’s already too late, and that’s crushing.
I still just really want to know more about Shen Jiu and I feel really sad that there wasn’t some kind of redemption for him or anything. Even if it’s like Shen Yuan going into the recesses of his own mind and finds Shen Jiu locked in a box somewhere so actually the both of them share the same body and he’s just watching in a tiny TV what Shen Yuan does with his body. He’d be really frustrated and would probably scream at him a lot with his screams completely unheard, but at least he’d get to see people liking him more and would be able to hear the words that Qingyuan spoke. I mentioned in an earlier post that I saw a theory about OG Qingqiu transmigrating into Shen Yuan when Shen Yuan takes over his body, and I think that’s possible because Shang Qinghua says that when he transmigrated he was born there and was since a baby? I was thinking maybe it’d be more like OG dies when OG Binghe kills him and then becomes Shen Yuan, but who knows.
I mean, also I just crave more information about him. He’s so unfortunate, and I like wish more went right for him so that he wouldn’t be so miserable. Like when you see a character where their life is just shit on, you just wish that you could do something to take away their pain.
And with that sentiment, that’s also why I found the ending to be satisfying but probably a little problematic. Like Shen Yuan is just a good guy and he has that same sentiment for Binghe just because he’s a poor kid with a shitty hand in life, but he’s also like really clearly not gay himself and not actually attracted to Binghe in that way. To be clear, the book does seem to discourage this kind of relationship in that it works in the way the narrative unfolded, but it isn’t one that would work in real life really. That’s part of the depth of it though. Like SY emotionally cares for him and he even remarks that he feels kind of more like his Dad, but the physical side of their relationship is more on Binghe’s side than his, and he acquiesces to it because he feels bad for him because this poor child has no one. And yeah, fine this works in an actual book that we’re all reading and this works within the system within the book where the MC is in a book himself with really screwed up logic rules, but I don’t recommend this method of getting with someone you like in real life. It will not end well. If someone you like is not into you, emotionally manipulating them and crying and also stalking them until they give their body to you out of desperation to console you is not the road to happiness. You also won’t have a pressure timer of life on earth ending by combining with actual hell to push them into bed with you. The fact that SY resorts to this in desperation in order to try to help Binghe to get control of the demon sword is admirable in the narrative of the story in that he’s doing it because he cares so much about this person and that’s fine, but it’s a red flag if anyone did this IRL and put their wishes aside to appease someone else. There will be a breakdown in the future as one person puts aside their needs for the other one completely. Partnerships that work are healthy and equal. That’s not what this is. In the story, the two characters have an understanding though that makes it fine, but I have second-hand anxiety for the idea that anyone would try to replicate this. This is not normally healthy.
But at the same time, the fact that the characters have an understanding to that is unique to their personal choice is also realistic in a sense that life is sometimes complicated and a similar situation could come about, but it is the choice of the people involved. With constant communication there’s a slim chance that maybe it could work out, but it’s hard. The main level of complexity I’m thinking of is that there’s different ways to care about other people or rather to just feel about other people. Like you can have like an intellectual attraction to other people in that you just like talking with them and you’re good friends with them because of that. You can be romantically attracted to someone, but also not feel sexual attraction too. Of course you can also feel physical attraction to someone, but not really care at all about them emotionally or even intellectually. SY has emotional feelings for Binghe, but it’s more on the parental side or even just human in not wanting him to suffer. If this were a points meter, his values for his emotions and just caring about him would be at max, while physical attraction and even romantic attraction are basically zero. Like he also just like cares about him in principle? Like as an all seeing reader you look at everything and are just like, wtf with this shit? How can one person suffer so much? As empthy or even sympathy you feel for them so then if the other person is more not asexual or aromantic that can trigger some feelings which is what happened between these two characters. The reason I say it isn’t necessarily bad, but some shakiness on execution too. But like say like an asexual person is romantically attracted to someone who isn’t asexual, but they still want to be with them. Like the non-ace person has some needs sometimes and even if the ace doesn’t feel it, because they care about their partner they acquiesce to their partner’s requests because they just want them to be happy. This kind of very personal choice situation I think is really similar to basically what ends up happening between SY Qingqiu and Binghe where SY isn’t really interested, but at the same time cares about Binghe’s well-being so much that he actually just wants him to be happy and reluctantly is okay with the situation. IRL though Binghe would be REALLY FRUSTRATING to be so unreasonably needy and like narcissistically abusive in wanting him all to himself an isolating him from his friends and being jealous of them. In comparison, Wangji and Wuxian are a great deal more balanced in comparison, but I also really like this book for the original idea and the complexity of SY’s ultimate choice because I feel like it’s also a bit more real that some people do make that kind of choice. It’s not healthy or guaranteed to be a success or happy experience, but it’s in the realm of possibilities for the kinds of personal choices people can make because the other person’s happiness is worth the minor discomfort.
Ah, I just have a lot of thoughts about this. Part of it stems from myself being ace also and what that means for me. But also getting to the end, I think Qingge is a fellow ace and also similar to me, just serious about his job and loyal to his crew.
I’ve read some of the extras obviously, but I haven’t delved that deeply into the extra materials.
Oh also, I laughed so hard when Mobei-jun just tossed Shang Qinghua over like a chicken. It said like a chicken and it was hilarious. XD Like imagining that panicked sound of hucking chickens in Ocarina of Time.
Oh and ho-shit the alt punishment system came up for SY Qingqiu for screwing up his points. Got to live through half the process of becoming a human stick very painfully.
I guess part of me is still kind of just wondering how Binghe grew to be SO needy. It’s to an unnecessary degree, but I guess without any real emotional or social guidance in the Endless Abyss that could happen?
Zhuzhi-Lang though is a really frustratingly annoying character, but I also like him at the same time. I’m confused by him.
The only other thing I’m like confused a bit about is like, so the 4 sects that are depicted with Cang Qiong Mountain being the top one are like the great four sects, but like...where are they? I’m just asking because of the kind of meta general landscape of what cultivation and Taoism is like some of the events that happen I would think actually would call down some interference from actual Heaven. Like in the classic lit, whenever there’s huge disturbances down in the Human World, like the Heavenly Palace and like the Jade Emperor are like, “WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT?” and go send people. I find it really hard to believe that such a disaster as the combining of two realms would be ignored by the armies of Heaven and like Nezha, Erlang Shen, and other notable actual deities up there would come down and be like, “The fuck you guys doing down here with these shenanigans?” Also, Journey to the West is like one of the most like influential books in the canon of Chinese lit and is regarded as literally one of the Four Great Classics. But none of these fools in these “great four sects” know how to stamp a floor and call up the local deity to tell you what the hell is happening in Jinlan City instead of sending your disciples to die? Sun Wukung did that at like every damn city and then also threatened to beat them if they like weren’t doing their job properly. Those minor deities are on the payroll for Heaven, so like...use them? Like I feel like they would know this too because like the ultimate goal for cultivation is to be able to become an immortal and end up on the payroll? I know Qingqiu is supposedly like mid-level or something, but like I think they should like know-ish where they’re going? Like in the future they would become one of those minor gods making records? Are they like not high enough to even talk to them? Maybe not, but I do think like Nezha, Pagoda Bearer Li, or Erlang Shen would definitely come down and be like, “Hey, what’s going on?”
Also like, Shen Jiu isn’t a great character and how he treats his disciples is bad and what he did was bad. But like, also, what is the standard to judge him really? Like Nezha was a dick when he was a child too. When he was 3 he went to a river and was swimming and liked killed all the fish and then a dragon prince came out and was like, “WTF? Why are all the fish dead?” and then Nezha instead of answering him kills him and guts him and then takes his tendon home to turn into a belt. Then like his Dad gets a complaint from the Dragon King like, “Hey, my son is dead! Your son did it. Hand him over so I can kill him or I destroy your town.” So then Nezha’s Dad goes to talk to him and is like, “What’re you doing?” And then Nezha answers him and tells him exactly what he did like it was no big fucking deal that he killed the local Dragon Prince and made him into a belt. Obviously there’s an argument and like Nezha basically rage quits his life and is like, if you’re so concerned about this bullshit I return this body to you and kills himself to cut off his ties to his parents. He was a rude little shit. Then he went into his Mom’s dream and threatened her until she built him a temple so he could get prayer requests until he could be reborn again. His Dad found out and wrecked the temple, so then he went up to go find his master who had him be reborn using lotus flowers. After that after being reborn, Nezha’s first order of business was to go back to his family and try to kill his own father for fucking up his temple and chased him down EVERYWHERE until other powers in Heaven, decided to send down Nezha’s older brothers with a pagoda to give to their Dad that would trap and burn Nezha everytime he tried to murder him. Is this better or worse than what Shen Jiu did? This is an actual god that people worship. A quite prominent and very famous one. Nezha is also one of my favorite deities and I had a huge crush on the Nataku from Fujisaki Ryu’s Houshin Engi manga who has mostly the same backstory as deity Nezha, and I just loved him in high school. He was a good guy. What are the standards here people? I don’t think anyone in any story in China can really judge someone like Shen Jiu doing an understandable level of murder as a response to trauma and severe abuse when they worship a deity that suffered nothing and tried to commit patricide and had a severe disregard for other life. In the cultivation world, potentially, this could be their future boss. I think arguably, he could be worse than Shen Jiu, but he’s a canonical real deity.
The above tirade for me is like a thing I feel like I would have said if I was in the position to be alive in Jinlan City and wanted to defend Shen Qingqiu cuz WTF.
Further, I’m a huge fan of Jigoku Shoujo and Enma Ai did much the same after her cousin saved her from being sacrificed, the villagers found out, buried her a live, made her cousin help bury her alive, and then she came back as a vengeful spirit and set the whole village on fire and killed everyone except maybe her parents who had their souls as prisoners by Enma himself? Can’t 100% remember. But like, on the scale of characters I like that have done terrible things, Shen Jiu is actually relatively low and under some people that are good guys.

94 You’re an idiot. I married an idiot.
okay, i know it’s supposed to be a drabble, but i went a bit overboard…? i hope it’s okay! i choose bingqiu for this prompt, it kinda fitted in my mind :3
Send me a number and i’ll write a drabble (or something longer)!
Rating: MaturePairing: BingqiuAdditional tags: canon universe, post-canon? sort of?Summary: In which Shen Qingqiu is sappy and he knows, Luo Binghe gets overprotective and Liu Qingge just wanted to help.
Read under the cut.
Shen Qingqiu knew that going through with that idea would eventually prove to be troublesome. He had considered it before leaving, of course, watching Luo Binghe fidget nervously in front of him when he told him he was needed elsewhere, away from Qing Jing Peak, together with Liu Qingge.
The idea of parting from his Shizun never appealed him, but knowing that Bai Zhan’s Peak Lord would accompany him… he didn’t like it. Convincing him  had been hard, and it took Shen Qingqiu a great deal of coaxing and indulging his disciple’s requests to let him set off for Lek Yuen City with Liu Qingge. Yulan Festival was still weeks apart but rich merchants and nobles won’t listen to reason until they knew they were well protected and ghost-proofed. Asking their Sect for help in the matter had been a preposterous move, but with a Demon Lord among their ranks Yue Qingyuan had wanted to keep everyone quiet and content.
Everyone but Shen Qingqiu. He was already quiet and content in his bamboo house, studying some plant’s side effect and experimenting around a bit, thank you very much! How come he was the only one available?!
Closing the door behind his back and moving a couple of steps into the room, he sighed. Another day away from his Peak was over, and all in all, he couldn’t deny that he had had fun, venturing in the market streets and strolling through the forest on the edge of the city.
(He had found lots of interesting items, and every time he turned to show them to Luo Binghe, he realised he was either alone or in the company of someone else. His discontentment was probably obvious, if the furrowed expression in Liu Qingge’s face had been anything to go by.)
He took off his outer robe, untied his hair, let his body ease in the calmness of the descending night, breathing in the silence and forcing his body to sit on the bed and pick up the hairbrush he left on the bedside table that morning.
Let his mind drift, to the previous night and those before it since he arrived there, and how odd the feeling that had pervaded him from that moment on was, like the impending silence waiting him once he found himself alone in that same room was far from being comforting and relaxing.
Maybe, he merely wasn’t accustomed to it anymore, with what living together with Luo Binghe had done to his humble routine. Maybe, he had started seeing his apprentice’s presence as part of his daily life at a far deeper level than he thought.
Or maybe, it was much simpler than that.
A hand brushed the object between his fingers away from his hold, and all his senses snapped in him like a bungee cord.
Shen Qingqiu tensed and his hand flew to his waist, only to remember that he didn’t have his fan when he came back -he probably displaced it somewhere at dinner, half sure Liu Qingge would eventually find it and give it back.
So he prepared to attack with his spiritual energy, but than the person in the room speak, and an intense wave of relaxation washed over him, taking him totally by surprise.
“Shizun.”
“…Binghe.”
It took him a while to formulate a reply, with his heart in his throat for the scare and his limbs trembling for the sudden rush of adrenaline.
That apprentice was crazy!! Demon Lord or not, you can’t sneak up your master’s back like this!! Do you want to have him killed?! Do you even know how to perform CPR?!?
He settled for something more intelligible while calming his racing heart. How could he not sense his presence in the room? When did Luo Binghe become so good at stealth operations?!
“What are you doing here?!”
There was a smile on Binghe’s face -Shen Qingqiu couldn’t see it, his back at him while he brushed his hair, treading his fingers between the locks a couple of times, but he could somehow feel it, especially when he opened his mouth.
“This disciple couldn’t handle solitude. He missed his Sizhun too much.”
Shen Qingqiu ignored how something constricted in his chest -how the longing in Binghe’s tone seemed to mirror that bitter feeling he had been fighting off for days. Instead, he sighed and turned, lifting his chin a bit to look at his apprentice, kneeling on his bed with placid demeanor, as if he was restraining himself. He recognised the glint in his dark irises right away.
Shen Qingqiu swallowed.
“Did this disciple scare his Husband?” Luo Binghe added, apologetic, leaning toward him without diverting his gaze from Shen Qingqiu’s eyes and lowering it only when he was too bent forward to manage it. His intention became clear only when his lips pressed lightly on his shoulder, nuzzling it a couple of seconds before withdrawing and fixing his robe -Shen Qingqiu hadn’t noticed his sleeve had slipped down. The action -the intimacy that gesture spoke of- almost made him blush.
And what was with that sudden title?! When had Binghe turned into a smooth, tricky charmer?!
He breathed deeply, thinly observing him, gradually aware of his tense posture, the way his hands tightened on his knees with Shen Qingqiu’s gaze carefully settled on him. He sighed again, fully knowing what the reason behind the impatient gleam in Luo Binghe’s wide eyes was. Could he even reject such a puppy face? He didn’t have his fan to help him dodge the upcoming attacks, so it was much more clever to store energy for when he will really need it.
(Binghe had really made him shameless, making him use the lack of a weapon as an excuse to cave in, for once, and reaching for his disciple’s face it almost looked like he was admitting that he had dearly missed this, too. Missed him.)
Shen Qingqiu patted his head, allowing himself to smile sublty when the young man closed his eyes and relaxed under his touch, trembling. He turned fully, placing himself on the bed in front of him, and every hunch on nervousness he had ever felt in moments like this assaulted him when a hand reached for his, trapping it against a cheek when Luo Binghe’s eyelids lifted again.
None of them spoke a word, and Shen Qingqiu gripped his disciple’s shoulder when Luo Binghe came for him, an arm sneaking around his waist as his lips reduced the space between them.
He kissed him like years had passed since the last time and his lips parted in response without excessive coaxing, a trilling news Luo Binghe welcomed with a moan. He pulled him in the same instant Shen Qingqiu pressed forward, legs caging the Demon Lord’s hips and breath stuck in his throat at the craved proximity.
Binghe’s fingers intertwined with his hair, forcing his head down, the palm of his other hand slipping under the robe and tracing every patch of skin he could find, possessively groping his back and waist as Shen Qingqiu quivered, overwhelmed, clinging to him and reluctantly giving in to his own body’s demand.
He unfastened the string that kept Binghe’s hair up, letting it fall untidily, scraping his nape in circular movements to dispel the remaining tension and drawing another groan from his apprentice, his hips snapping up in reflex and making Shen Qingqiu break of the kiss, hissing in pleasure at the friction. He panted, ashamed, forehead resting on Luo Binghe’s.
“Shizun’s body missed me too, this disciple is incredibly glad” he mused, murmuring against his lips and leaning forward to playfully bite one of them, distracting him.
Gleeful disciple, Shen Qingqiu wanted to smack the edge of his fan on his head once more, but he had to resort to his hands, ready to protest and ultimately gripping his shoulders again as Binghe’s palm brushed downward to tease his cock, hidden behind his slacks. He moaned in his ear, back arching, his body a shuddering net of burning nerves in his disciple’s hands.
Traitor! Was a bit of abstinence from sex all it took to reduce his body like this?! He felt betrayed, insulted, deceived!! Why didn’t the System place him somewhere easier to reason with?!
“Did Shizun? Did my Husband miss this foolish disciple, too?”
He couldn’t think, he couldn’t beat around the bush with Luo Binghe’s palms on him like that, pushing on all the right buttons and clashing their hips together to elicit whimper after whimper from him.
Binghe was losing his cool, Shizun’s reactions too good, too lovely and intoxicating for him to not do something about it. He almost had him under him, pressed on the mattress, when someone knocked at the door.
Both of them froze, their labored breathe the only thing causing noises in the room, aside from the occasional knocking and voice accompanying them.
“Shen Qingqiu? Are you awake?”
Luo Binghe’s hands fisted, arms closing around a vulnerable Shizun.
“Why is he here? It’s late. Why would he come to your room?” he hastily whispered, barely remaining calm enough not to shout at the door. Shen Qingqiu pulled away from him, moving backward to recover more quickly.
Shit. Okay, Liu Qinge was outside his room and Luo Binghe seemed ready to rip his head off, judging from the way he kept eyeing the direction where the other Peak Lord could come from at any given moment. The last thing he wanted was to cause a scene, perfectly knowing how it was living with those two emitting testosterone whenever they were in the same place. Moreover, Luo Binghe he, the Demon Lord, should be here!
“Hide” he managed to say under his breath, not looking in his direction to not gauge his current appearance. “Hide and don’t come out until he is gone.”
“No! I’m not leaving Shizun alone with him in the middle of the night! What if he touches Shizun-”
Another knock. Liu Qingge probably heard noises.
“Shen Qingqiu?”
“He won’t” he replied quickly, getting off of the bed and fixing his inner robe while for something to put on. “Now do as I say!” he hastened him, slipping into his outer robe before turning and promptly walking toward Luo Binghe, all the while saying out loud: “I’m awake! Let me put something on” in the general direction of the door.
“If he-”
“He won’t” Shen Qingqiu assured him again, pushing him under the bed and ordering him to stay quiet. Luo Binghe begrudgingly obeyed, frowning.
Shen Qingqiu straightened his clothes, breathing deeply and trying to dissipate the remaining fog caused by his and Binghe’s… previous activity. He ventured to the door, unceremoniously opening it and revealing his fellow Peak Lord’s garbled expression. He smiled apologetically to him, moving aside to invite him in, glancing nervously at his bed.
“What is Junior Brother doing here this late in the evening? Something happened?”
Liu Qingge looked around, frown deepening, before his eyes settled on the one who welcomed him. His lips thinned.
Shen Qingqiu had surely tried to make himself presentable, but when Liu Qingge came in, he had felt the strong impulse to look elsewhere. Bitten, plump, shiny lips and disarrayed hair and robe told him all he needed to know -the malevolent, familiar energy he had felt and its closeness to Shen Qingqiu finding its righteous cause at last.
Luo Binghe was there, no doubt. But where did he go? Did he hide? Liu Qingge found the situation ridiculous, as if he didn’t know what kind of relationship they had. They had never made a secret of it when it started, so why all this discretion now?
“Where you sleeping?”
“Almost” Shen Qingqiu swiftly retorted, hands hiding in his sleeves.
“You left your fan on the table while we were dining” he explained. A sound disturbed the quietness of the room and Shen Qingqiu coughed, hand flying up to cover his mouth, apologising with a half bow.
“Ah, that’s right, I noticed it before going to sleep, I’m sorry it inconvenienced Junior Brother to the point of coming here instead of resting in his room.”
But Liu Qingge, the almost burberous, chivalry Lord of Bai Zhan Peak, waved him off, telling him with that gesture he needn’t worry.
“It’s not a problem. You always lose it and we never know when it’ll come in handy, you should be more careful with your possessions” he admonished, eyebrow flying upward when the same sound from before followed.
“Yes, Junior Brother is completely right, this Lord is too forgetful! Thankfully Junior Brother always manages to help and return whatever possession of this Lord he finds” he commented rapidly, trying to keep his attention on him.
“Don’t count on it as if it’s something you’re giving for granted!” he protested, shaking his head immediately after when he didn’t even succeed in sounding truly irritated.
A hiss.
Liu Qingge handed him the fan.
“This Lord promises to be more careful” Shen Qingqiu reassured him, taking the object and tilting his head to the side to smile contrivedly, shifting his weight from one leg to the other continuously. Suddenly, Liu Qingge noticed a strange, colored item caught in his hair, something that looked like a feather, and he acted on impulse.
“You have something in your hair-”
“Uh? Where?”
“Here” he said, pointing at the red feather with his finger, but Shen Qinqiu kept missing the spot, so he intervened.
“Wait, let me-”
Like a hurricane, a shadow barged on them, wrapping Shen Qingqiu in protective arms and sneering menacingly at the intruder.
“Hands off! Don’t touch Shizun!” he roared, tightening his hold, fingers shielding Shen Qingqiu’s head and pinning it under his chin, eyes burning in anger and tempted to incinerate Liu Qingge’s raised arm.
He dropped it.
Shen Qingqiu hit his own forehead with an open palm, mumbling at Luo Binghe and to himself: “You’re an idiot. I married an idiot.”
Luo Binghe’s rage quelled, and the blush on his cheeks spoke of something entirely different.
“What did Shizun said?”
“That you’re an idiot! I told you to not come out!”
“No, after that! What did Shizun do to that idiot?” he persisted, eyes glinting again, holding Shen Qingqiu flush to his chest, and the Peak Lord’s frustration and embarrassment was so evident, irises ashamedly eyeing him and pleading him to do something or go away, that Liu Qingge cringed for him.
“I’m out of here” he just retorted, not wanting to witness anything his eyes weren’t ready for. He left the couple alone, returning to the room next to Shen Qingqiu’s and hoping the walls were thick enough to spare his ears.

Title: Happy Together (chapter four: BingQiu Week Day Four)
Author: Elara_Moon
Rating: T
Warnings: Mental state altering magic
Summary: As per usual, it was entirely Airplane-bro’s fault! (Luo Binghe is under a strange magic effect, Shen Qingqiu is sick, and this leads to a conversation Shen Qingqiu never wanted to have.)
AO3 Link
Shen Qingqiu was going to kill Airplane-bro when they got off this stupid mountain. It was entirely his fault that they were up here looking for some plant (another of the thousand miracle flowers in the Proud Immortal Demon Way world) to cure some improbable illness.
Shen Qingqiu sneezed.
Okay, so he was the one with the improbable illness (as usual, why is his life like this), but it was still Airplane-bro’s fault for inventing the thing.
The problem was not the illness itself, which so far seemed to be like the immortal’s version of the common cold: annoying, but not overly harmful. It wasn’t even the plant. It was the mountain. Entirely unrelated to the plant, this mountain (with a suitably long and pompous name that Shen Qingqiu refused to remember on principle) had a multitude of other one-of-a-kind and long-lost things.
Including an ancient relic that covered the entire mountaintop in a strange aura. Shen Qingqiu could feel it crackling uncomfortably against his skin, though it wasn’t actually affecting him. It only affected demons, and theoretically, the effect made demons more straightforward: removed every consideration from their minds except their goals and desires. This caused most demons to become vicious monsters who simply attacked and ate anything that approached them.
Which could have ended very, very badly, and if Shen Qingqiu had realized that the mountain with the miracle flower was the same mountain as the one with the ancient relic, he would have insisted that Luo Binghe and Mobei Jun stay away. But he hadn’t known; the miracle flower had, in an amazing turn of events, been a one-off mention with no details about its retrieval. Shang Qinghua also hadn’t known, apparently, even though he was the ******* writer!
Reasons to kill Airplane-bro: he’d invented the immortal-affecting version of the common cold, he’d invented the miracle plant, and he’d invented the ancient relic. Three reasons, and that was giving him the benefit of the doubt that it wasn’t his fault they’d ended up on the same mountain.
Reasons not to kill Airplane-bro: he was the only other person from Shen Qingqiu’s original world and he did reluctantly consider him a friend, and Mobei Jun was inexplicably in love with him and would probably cause trouble for Luo Binghe if Shen Qingqiu killed Shang Qinghua. Two reasons.
Shang Qinghua’s life was forfeit.
...And it was possible Shen Qingqiu was more sick than he’d thought, because he could not keep himself on task.
Anyway, because the mountain was very large and Shen Qingqiu was sick, Luo Binghe had recruited Mobei Jun to the cause of looking for the miracle flower. Completely unrelated to that, Shen Qingqiu had dragged Shang Qinghua into it because he needed his knowledge of what mountain the flower was on. And so all four of them went.
Shen Qingqiu and Luo Binghe had promptly gotten separated from Mobei Jun and Shang Qinghua through a series of absurd events. For maximum drama points, Shen Qingqiu was pretty sure.
Fortunately for Shen Qingqiu’s continued survival, the effect of the ancient relic did not reduce Luo Binghe to a mindless animal. It did, however, remove all of the things that usually kept him from asking Shen Qingqiu unwanted questions. It seemed that, without inhibitions keeping him away from awkward questions, a lot of things were actually higher on Luo Binghe’s priorities list than getting the miracle flower to cure Shen Qingqiu’s magic cold.
Unfortunately.
“Shizun, please,” Luo Binghe said, eyes dark and serious, crocodile tears nowhere in sight.
He was standing very close, all but looming over Shen Qingqiu. Luo Binghe wasn’t crying for once, but Shen Qingqiu almost wanted to! It was so much easier to deal with Luo Binghe when he was crying and wheedling what he wanted out of Shen Qingqiu. And, of course, when Luo Binghe was avoiding certain subjects.
Wherever Shang Qinghua and Mobei Jun were, Shen Qingqiu hoped Shang Qinghua was suffering as much as Shen Qingqiu was. In a tiny, distant corner of his heart, he hoped that Mobei Jun was as non-violent under the effects of the relic as Luo Binghe was and Shang Qinghua was therefore safe, if massively inconvenienced. But mostly he hoped he was suffering (emotionally).
Shen Qingqiu lifted his fan slightly higher. It did very little good when Luo Binghe was standing as close as he was.
“Binghe, I--” he started, and hesitated.
“Shizun. Why did you push me into the Abyss? Did you hate my demon blood that much?” Luo Binghe said, repeating his questions again. Shen Qingqiu tried not to react. “Do you still?”
That one was new. Shen Qingqiu couldn’t repress a flinch.
“No, of course not,” he said. “I…”
He what? He couldn’t explain why he’d done it! There was far too much that he’d never told Luo Binghe and never wanted to that he’d have to if he wanted to explain why he’d pushed Luo Binghe into the Endless Abyss.
But he couldn’t think of a lie to give, either, or any way to convince Luo Binghe to stop asking. His head was full of cotton.
“Then why?” Luo Binghe murmured, leaning in, his eyes intent.
Shen Qingqiu coughed in his face. Not deliberately, it just happened. Luo Binghe barely flinched. He kept staring.
Unfortunately, Shen Qingqiu’s illness only mimicked the effects of the common cold -- it wasn’t actually, and it wasn’t contagious.
“Binghe, this master doesn’t feel well,” Shen Qingqiu said as calmly as he could when he was desperately hoping it would work. “We should keep searching for the…” He cast around for the most recent miracle plant’s name, and couldn’t remember it, “...cure. To my illness.”
Luo Binghe didn’t look swayed. “Shizun will have to forgive this disciple,” he said unapologetically. “We can search later. Please, won’t Shizun answer my question?”
The problem was, the illness Shen Qingqiu had wasn’t immediately life-threatening. Well, no. That wasn’t the problem. The problem was that Luo Binghe knew it wasn’t immediately life-threatening.
Shen Qingqiu narrowed his eyes a little. Luo Binghe was essentially trying to extort him, wasn’t he? The answers to Luo Binghe’s questions in exchange for the cure to Shen Qingqiu’s illness. How ruthless of him!
“Right now? Surely this can wait until later,” Shen Qingqiu said.
Hopefully once Luo Binghe was away from the effects of the relic, he’d go back to being unwilling to ask!
“It can’t,” Luo Binghe said immediately, crushing Shen Qingqiu’s hopes. “This disciple needs to know. Please, Shizun.”
Luo Binghe’s expression folded somewhat from the steady, cool determination it had been set in for the rest of the conversation. He looked… sad. It wasn’t an uncommon expression on Luo Binghe, because acting sad and pitiful was his preferred (and the most successful) way of getting Shen Qingqiu to agree to anything and everything.
But so far, Luo Binghe hadn’t been acting like he usually did -- he hadn’t been pretending, the way he usually did. So was it… real, then…?
The attack on Shen Qingqiu’s feelings (a critical hit), on top of the overall miserable state he was in, did him in. He crumpled under the onslaught like wet paper.
Luo Binghe knew it, too.
“Shizun, why did you push this disciple into the Abyss?” he repeated again.
Shen Qingqiu was not so out of it that he didn’t notice the pronoun change from the previous times Luo Binghe had asked the question. Trying to seem subservient again, huh? Shen Qingqiu was onto Luo Binghe’s tricks! Not that it actually changed anything.
“I’m sorry,” Shen Qingqiu said.
Luo Binghe’s eyes went wide.
“I’m sorry for what I did. For… pushing you into the Endless Abyss,” Shen Qingqiu said. He closed his eyes, lifting his fan to cover his entire face. “I… I can’t explain why I did it. But I am sorry. I didn’t hate your demon blood.” Not yet, anyway -- he’d certainly had enough reason to hate it at certain times after that… “I don’t hate it.”
“Shizun…” Luo Binghe said, voice wobbly with emotion.
Shen Qingqiu opened his eyes to look at Luo Binghe’s face. Sure enough, the silly man was crying. He sighed.
“Why are you crying now?” he scolded gently, reaching out to wipe at the tears.
Before his hand made it to Luo Binghe’s cheek, however, it was crushed between them as Luo Binghe flung himself forward, wrapping around Shen Qingqiu. Instinct caused Shen Qingqiu to squirm in the hold. Familiarity caused him to go still, because struggling wouldn’t get him anywhere; Luo Binghe would hug Shen Qingqiu until he was ready to let go, and nothing else would free him.
“Shizun!” Luo Binghe repeated. “I love you, Shizun.”
He buried his face in Shen Qingqiu’s hair, probably getting it all wet with tears. Fortunately, as the protagonist who could have no unattractive faults, Luo Binghe always cried in a very pretty, elegant way, so Shen Qingqiu didn’t have to worry about him getting snot in his hair.
With a sigh, Shen Qingqiu shifted to be more comfortable. He wiggled one of his hands free from between them to stroke Luo Binghe’s soft hair.
Shen Qingqiu spoke quickly, before he could give himself the chance to think about it. “I love you too,” he told Luo Binghe’s chest.
It was embarrassing! So embarrassing. To just say it openly like that--! But… Luo Binghe liked it when Shen Qingqiu said it openly. Even if he could only do it on the spur of the moment, without thinking about it, when he didn’t have to look Luo Binghe in the eye.
Luo Binghe’s arms tightened around Shen Qingqiu and he made a content noise. Shen Qingqiu tried not to cough on him again.
He hoped Luo Binghe finished having emotions soon so they could continue looking for the miracle plant.

MXTX interview(3)
After scanning through this review by @bigbadredpanda,  I got inspired to do a translation of the scum villain / tian guan ci fu parts of this interview. Bear in mind that I have yet to read other interviews and stalk MXTX’s weibo, so I may be unaware of other perks.
The first part of the interview is here. I had accidentally posted it to my main blog.
Those that @sakhyu and bcnovels have yet to translate would be spoiler tagged. 4 are spoiler-tagged, don’t bother unless you’ve read beyond the HOB Wind Master Arc.
Q21. [SPOILER] 花城小时候为什么绑着绷带?为何掉下城楼?他为何总是被人欺负又体质非常好?(Why did Hua Cheng have bandages when he was younger? Why did he fall off the city wall? Why was he healthy even though he was beaten up by other people?)
[SPOILER]被打的,他右眼是红瞳,别人觉得很恐怖,脸上很多伤也要遮一下;
It was because he was beaten up. His right eye had a red pupil, others thought it was scary, and even though he was beaten up, he still had to hide it.
There was one day, he could not take the beatings any longer and wanted to commit suicide, and despair drooped around him. One day, he heard that there was about to be a festival. If there was an incident, the kingdom would fall into ruin, so he chose this day to wreck the festival. It was a feeling of “Since I’m so unlucky, I want everyone to die along with me”/”I’m taking down everyone with me”. Thus, when he went up to take a look at his future wife, he was stunned and forgot about his suicide attempt. But because he wanted to look a bit closer, he toppled over the city wall.
He’s a tough person to kill! Like Xie Lian, he’s stubborn, and can’t be killed so easily. When he crawls up from despair, it’s akin to having one last breath to wreck everything else behind him!
T/N: Everything is angst about this. Everything!
Q22. 花城为什么对自己颜值没有信心?(Why wasn’t Hua Cheng confident about his own looks?)
Because he was often criticized as being ugly, or a monster, it deeply implanted a ‘I’m very ugly’ outlook in his mind. He only started to question his looks, but when in front of the person he likes the most, he would still doubt himself, and start to question if he really is as ugly as he thought.
T/N: Your prince doesn’t think so.
Q23. [SPOILER]慕情把花城赶出军营时到底说了什么?(Why did Mu Qing chase him out of the military?)
[SPOILER]Mu Qing’s manner of speech is always like this: You’re of no use to his Imperial Highness, you’ll only be a burden on him! The army doesn’t need trash like you, don’t think you have that much talent!
Because young people like the mortal Hua Cheng had a high mortality rate, Mu Qing thought that he did nothing wrong in chasing him out.
T/N: Faced with that, I think I can understand Mu Qing a little more...
Q24. 谢怜为何给自己取“花”姓?(Why did Xie Lian give himself the surname Hua in Halfmoon Kingdom?)
因为他喜欢花,还曾被称为“花冠武神”。以及,在最初的设定中,谢怜被贬时去做过花神,掌花开花谢。
It’s because he likes flowers, and he was often titled the Martial God Crowned with Flowers. Also, in the initial plan, when he was banished, he became a flower god, determining the flowering and wilting of flowers.
Q25. [SPOILER]师青玄是凡人了吗?手脚能恢复吗?如果死后轮回还会是烂命吗?师无渡是不是真的凉了?黑水拿走水师的头做什么?黑水岛上他最后和师青玄说了什么?(Is Shi Qingxuan a mortal? Can his limbs recover? When he reincarnates, will his luck change? Did Shi Wudu freeze? What did Hei Shui do with his head? What were Hei Shui’s final words to Shi Qingxuan?)
[SPOILER] 是凡人。不能恢复,他也不想恢复。天官没有轮回设定。15°凉了。头拿去当祭品。一个字都没说,因为师青玄当时呆滞了,说了也听不懂。
He’s a mortal. He can’t recover, and he doesn’t want to recover. There are no reincarnations for Heavenly Officials. 15 degrees frozen. [This is a pun Shi Wu being a direct homophone for fifteen]  Water Master’s head was taken for offerings to the dead. Because Shi Qingxuan was paralysed, even if something was said to him, he wouldn’t understand.
T/N: Press F to pay respects.
Q26. 对于《天官赐福》创作期间剧情结构的争议有什么想法?(What were the thoughts you had about the plot and resulting debates of HOB?)
T/N: This is really long. Hold your horses!
这个其实我很早写过相关的,有的放在JJ的作者有话说里了,有的本来想放在后记,但想了想还是没有放,正好趁这个机会整理一下,一起发出来。
Actually, I had written something similar to my thoughts on this. Some have been placed in the author’s notes (on JJWXC, the original website HOB was posted to), some I wanted to record down but didn’t after thinking, so I’ll take this opportunity to tidy up a bit and air my thoughts.)
To say the truth, I’m still a bit speechless about this. I feel that other authors wouldn’t have as much difficulty about the debates as I did. There are some books that you like and some you don’t from the same author, this is pretty normal. There’s this author I like ( 非耽美  ), and I don’t like every single book she has written. There is no author in the world that can be assured that every book they have written will become a bestseller (I’m not comparing myself with these authors, please don’t quote me to your liking!) So I can’t understand why some people object once they read a book that they don’t like, or even say that I have a team of ghostwriters.
But I discovered that there would always be debates. On JJWXC, as long as it’s not a sweet fluffy story, there will always be some clouds hanging over. At least when I remember the first criticism, that is when Scum Villain was first published, there was a fan who told Luo Binghe to go die.
At that time, I wasn’t as mature, so I was really shocked. When GDC/MoDaoZuShi was being published, I received a heart wrenching criticism that went like this: “You’ve already exhausted my patience, I can’t stand all of these flashbacks!” This was when I had just written the first part of the time at Cloud Recesses, when they were all studying together. I was thinking: if you can’t stand this, then how are you going to stand it later?
There was also someone who wrote: “Big sis, this book doesn’t have much meaning, I still prefer Scum Villain!” These reviews are discomforting to me, but I won’t say anything. At the end, there were more people in the debate, more clouds over this novel, it was chaos, I was eventually numb to this. So at this point, I started having the habit of not reading the debates in the reviews corner.
所以你看,其实争议从来没有停止。永远有人不满。以前的争议现在淡去了,就给人一种“从来没有过争议”的错觉。就像总有人喜欢缅怀过去的时光如何美好,时间会加一层滤镜。
So you see, debates have never stopped. There will always be people who are unsatisfied. Previous debates that have become less intense, it gives the feeling that “there has never been a debate”. Like some who think that the past is better, time would give a nostalgic feeling.
写作中出现的困难有什么大不了的,没作者敢说自己写作过程中不会出现困难吧。但是有的作者很聪明,会扬长避短,就写自己最拿手的。这当然很厉害,不过我觉得,还是要不时走出舒适区试探一下的。
No author has dared to say that they have never come across trouble in writing, but there’s nothing wrong in troubles. But there are some authors who are smart, who would write what they are good at. This is very powerful, but I feel that there has to be some attempts at going out of your comfort zone.
既然是探索,就不能保证每一步都走得稳。如果我摔倒了,我自己会爬起来。不能说因为我会摔倒,就不让我走这一步,非逼我另一条路,或者要夺走我自己走路的权力。
Since it’s an investigation, so you can’t be sure that every step you take would be safe. If I fall, I would climb up myself. I can’t say that because I’ll fall, I won’t take this step, I need to take another route, or make this cautious step prevent me from walking on my own.
If I really don’t like this, letting go is always good. I hope that everyone will break up peacefully. But some readers are a bit strange, they don’t like what they read, they will force themselves to read while complaining about it and wasting their effort. Why do this? You may not like it, but there are other readers who love it. So you will not feel comfortable, so will others, and you get into a fight and I feel embarrassed about it!
People feel protective about what they love, this is perfectly normal and I can’t prevent readers from being protective. I perfectly understand the rage some feel when what they like is being attacked, and thus I worry about it.
可我也尊重读者发表评论的权利,所以对于很多不怎么友好的评论,我从来不会去反驳争辩(除非恶意造谣),有读者反应过激,我还会去劝阻。
However, I respect other readers with their right to disagree, so in debates that turn sour, I will not intervene (unless it’s to stamp a rumor) and I will try to allay those whose reactions are too energetic.
I would like to speak up about “suggestions”. Why?  Because those who have not written before are only good at talking. Like teaching someone how to write a composition, you say to use phrases to invoke feeling and paragraphing to structure your essay. When you answer mathematical questions, the suggestion is to think of alternative methods and be methodical in your working. It sounds good, right? But these are too vague, the space for error is still too wide. If you really want to do it, I have only one suggestion: write it yourself.
And if the suggestion is too general, like this: “This paragraph, the character speaking should be talking with more of a cultural flair”, or “This paragraph, he should be sympathetic rather than apathetic”, “You should use comparisons, this writing technique is better”, this is beyond the scope.
Writing is personal, a story has many readers, but there could only be one writer. Everyone is here to see the author’s story, not something that they suggest. Every reader has his own opinion and what he wants to see, so if everyone suggests what they want to read, who would the author listen to? Why him in particular and not others? Maybe you’ll get something good, but whose opinion is the best? What can determine that he is correct? There are too many people on this website. The most important question is: who is writing this? Who is the one expressing his thoughts?
The author being humble is a good thing. But the author’s humbleness reflects that he needs to read, to examine and to write even more. He needs to practice and edit his own words. It’s not up to everyone else’s suggestions to improve his own writing. Others cannot intervene. I do not suggest trying to guess what the author is thinking at the time. Because the majority of what you think would be wrong, so the guesser would be confident in what he thinks is the right answer, and it would turn out sour.
No matter what I write, there will be opinions about it. Some have felt that I’m too flighty, I torture the readers, I write things about bitterness and revenge and published authors should have the behavior of published authors, I can’t be this choosy and picky, and I need to pacify the readers. Some have also said that I have changed, and I only know how to appease the fans. I cannot help but think: why don’t you unify your own thoughts on this.
But I don’t like arguments in the review corner either. If two parties argue, there will be talk about how the fandom is quite scary, people here can’t agree, fans in this fandom will be braindead, the author is too proud. Whatever happens, the author is always wrong. I will always lose out, so I wish that everyone will not bother with this debate, let it sink and it’ll be ok, don’t argue more and more. All it will do is ruin everyone’s mood upon reading this.
T/N: This is the author’s thoughts about this. There are some parts I have trouble trying to translate because it is so hard for some vocab in Chinese to be directly interpreted. I did my best in this.
Okay. Back to other questions!
Q27. 《天官赐福》计划什么时候修文?(When are you editing HOB?)
其实现在已经开始修了,修好后会统一贴上去并发通知的。但因为这文修起来工程太大,JJ对修文也有很麻烦的限制,不知道会多久,在老四前还是老四后无法保证。还要看三次元和老四的破壳欲了。
Actually, it’s already in the process of editing. Once it has been fully edited, I will publish it as one post and inform everyone. However, as this job is too big, JJWXC has some issues and constraints as well about editing, so I have no idea how long it will take be it before or after the fourth novel is published.
Q28. 《天官赐福》还有哪些番外?(What other HOB extras are there?)
很早就想写个民间故事集,一个一个短小的童话故事,不长。
I want to write something about the mortal realm. A short fable maybe?
T/N: The remaining questions are about the fourth novel and MXTX’s thoughts on CP and such. I will translate them when I have the energy; I think MXTX’s answer to question 26 has killed my mood to translate further.
