avery's on the more reserved side, at least from my point of view, or maybe that's because when i first met them they had a ferminet pfp. they're pretty chill and casual, and can i just say? their writing is very easy to read, it has great flow and i can just lose myself in the fic. like i don't see the words i see what the words are saying, if that makes sense. avery also focuses on platonic writing, although they have been writing some romance with furina!! my personal favorite work of theirs was that fic of arlecchino comforting her crying child because it made me feel so much better about my life at 9 am when i just woke up.

aaaaaa chapter 3 of IHM was soooo good!!! Reader and Gojo’s banter is so funny, I just love stories, series and movies where the main characters can’t stand each other and fall in love without even noticing! Their relationship reminds me a lot from the main couple in the movie “Life as we know it”. Omg poor reader when dealing with Choso, the other cop PLUS her neighbors! And the way everyone is so nosy and suspicious, I feel like more awkward situations about their sudden marriage are about to come. These cringe encounters are everything 😂😂😂 The little detail where reader reminds Gojo to strengthen his collar before he leaves was the sweetest, cutest thing! I absolutely love how reader meets part of the family all at once, it was so adorable. And Mama Gojo is amazing, I already love that woman! Does she believe in energy, crystals and all these things? The way she literally hugged reader and declared she would bring luck to their family was soooo sweet!!! This fic is definitely the found family trope!!! And little Juno calling us auntie? My heart just melted right then and there! i relate to reader in the sense that she feels overwhelmed and terrified at the thought of having another family now that she’s married to Gojo. I am close only to my mom, dad and brother, and completely ceased contact with my family from my father’s side of the family. What I mean is, family is difficult, so I’m excited to see how reader will navigate this new chapter of her life, since when you marry someone, it’s like you marry their whole family by association. I hope the rude comments and asks you’ve received straight up demanding smut in all your fics don’t discourage you from continuing writing and posting your lovely stories!!! Unfortunately this always happens, people only care about what they want to see and completely disregard the author’s feeling and efforts. Thank youuu so so so much for writing real stories, with a real build up which only makes the romance between the main characters more genuine and worth in the end! thank you for your insights on family, that is so true. when you marry someone, you marry their whole family too. and that can be hard to navigate, especially when you’re so used to being around just one person (in reader’s case, her mother) and then suddenly having to acclimate to new people. i’m so glad you can see yourself in her (i’m the same way, only keep in touch w my immediate family and hardly w my aunts/uncles/cousins on both sides for a lotta family drama reasons haha) and i’ve always felt frightened to expand my relations w ppl for that reason, but i think i find that it can be healing too.

hi my love! do you have any writing tips? and words of encouragement when fics flop :(

hi darling <3 i feel like i always suck at giving writing tips but i'll try my very best for you ok. i hope some of these help! also very honored you'd even ask me 🤎

first and foremost: don't compare your writing to anyone else. everyone writes different, everyone has a certain style, a niche. if you're worried you don't have a 'style' don't, because you do. everyone does. it's not something you can make yourself have or take from others, it comes naturally with how your brain works and how it curates words and prose and scenes. that's why no book, no writing, is ever the same even if it's the same source material. it's a beautiful thing so don't stress about trying to make your writing sound or 'read' like other writers. it'll only ruin the enjoyment of how you write!

if you want to write more detailed just remember that not everything in a scene needs to be put down. the more you give the reader room to fill in the blanks and set the scene themselves the better experience for them (at least that's the case for my brain, others may feel different, but doing it this way makes me feel like i'm not adding too much detail or being repetitive). but visualizing, setting the scene for yourself through music or daydreaming is another great tip to write more detailed.

when it comes to smut i am a huge stan of you don't have to say the anatomically correct part they're using (like the p words or c word), and describing what it feels like to have that part touched, grazed, etc is really great. i struggle with fear of repeating myself so i try to find creative ways to describe body parts without actually calling them like flowery/nouns/different synonyms. i hope that made sense lmao.

don't worry about edits or making everything flow completely well in the first take. i highly rec everyone editing their own work and reading it back to themselves, yes it's tiring but it helps you find flow mistakes, add more detail, take something out that you thought fit in the moment but doesn't really. that's why i get everything out the first get go in a kind of fever dream manner and then when i go back to edit it then i buff out everything, add more, take away something, add more details that will make a scene pop off more.

now for the encouragement when it comes to flops: it's going to happen. there's no secret to making something do amazing or something failing. there really isn't and someone who says there is has just had a few lucky posts. because having a big following means nothing, writing a long fic, a short one, only using small font, being super aesthetic, really means nothing. i've seen writers with the most amazing aesthetic and beautiful prose with 100 followers write something and get 2k notes and then get 90 notes on their next post. same with someone who doesn't have a big aesthetic but a big following and writes short fics get 100 notes on their last ten posts but then that eleventh post randomly gets 1k. like it's really just up in the air on here if something is going to do good or not, unfortunately. so that's why i don't let it get to me when something i post gets 100 notes or 1k because i'm happy with both, less, or more. i don't expect anything anymore because that only leads to disappointment and i'm here to write and to have fun.

that's not to say i don't rec curating your own little community on here. make friends, block ppl with bad vibes, join discords of supportive friends. talk to writers who encourage and understand your feelings and discourse and who keep you going, give you inspo, etc etc. if only my friends ever rbed and read my stuff and there was only 10 of them? i'd say hell yeah and that'd encourage me to write more. having a good space of friends and community is amazing and can do a lot to fight off the writer scaries and the feelings of obsessing over numbers and success.

now this is just something i do but it always works for me; i post something and then force myself not to look at it for a day or two. i post it and move on to the next thing i want to work on. i do not dwell on how it's doing. i may q up some rbs for it but i don't even look at the notes when i do that. i deliberately never look at it because yes while it matters in the sense that we love encouragement, we love seeing people love something we spent hours on, we wrote this for ourselves but hello we want that validation too and that's okay, but like i said above and i'm going to say again notes mean nothing in regards to talent. these notes are not simon cowell judging you on your performance. so when i finally do go back to rb comments and reply to things, or if i just want to look at how it did, and the number is low i'm just like ok shrug at least those 20 people enjoyed it and that's better than 0. and if no one commented or rbed yeah that sucks and is disheartening but i can either dwell and be sad on it or i can continue to do what i love and write more. why let the annoying little brats on here who refuse to show their love on a work they read get you down? because there's a dozen of them out there and they're not going away. and you may have made someone's day for this little fic even if they didn't say something about it. it does suck that content creators on here don't get the rbs and comments and credit they deserve, and unfortunately if you want to keep doing what you love you gotta work around it and remind yourself why you're creating, continue to feel that joy. it's hard, believe me. but don't let your creativity be repressed because of it, because you'd be doing a disservice to yourself!

i'll say it again though: a high note count / following doesn't mean the fic is good or bad, neither does low notes / no following. no one's talent is ever in question here. we are here to write, have fun, fill the void of the rl scaries.

but hmmm, I'd say my personal taste in fics are actually slow burns, I really like fics that focus on Blitzwing and Bee forming an unlikely relationship based on their 'home lives' in a sense of it, where neither are understood and often viewed as annoyances/loose canons leading both to a feeling of isolation and a mild desperation/willingness to connect with anyone even at the risk of 'treason' for interacting with the other side.

I also enjoy the progression for Blitzwing of seeing Bumblebee as a harmless amusement to him somehow becoming a bit of a hyper focus that causes the big bad con to develop some empathy and *gasp* morals.

Meanwhile Bee is just a cocky little bastard who refuses to accept Blitzwing as the actual threat he is and then feelings are caught when his view of the world is shifted and he finds out Decepticons are also actually just people with complex feelings and motivations (also bonus if break down of autobots 'all warbuilds are evil because' bs is broken down)

I realize now I'm rambling so apologies its just a very fun ship to babble about.

If I was to ask for any fic, if you could set one in your Nemesis AU that be amazing, the size difference you give in that is spectacular like omg I stare so politely.

Also the concept is just very fun to me and I'd love to see that au world expanded.

Because their chemistry is crazy- they’re both wrekcless little freaks when left to their own devices, but full time loyal, fucked up little creatures to the ones closest to them. The handful Blitzwing can afford to let in to his life, even if ‘friends’ isn’t the word he’d use, and the few Bumblebee can make real connections with, when he’s a mischievous ant with a complex to make ‘something great’ of himself.

But he already IS great and bad boy Blitzwing needs to make it his immediate life’s goal to get that through to him and give him lots of love. (I ramble, too, you’re in good company)

I’m bad at stating my thoughts, I get overwhelmed when it’s my own emotions. I dunno how comfortable you are with compliments so i’m putting a little warning here; compliments incoming :)

Firstly, you are an awesome writer. Like genuinely. Plus it’s so impressive that you write/post those microfics everyday, it’s serious (sirius haha) dedication, and most ppl wouldn’t have it in them to keep a routine like that. 

Two, you have legit saved people. People here felt safe enough to ask you for help, and from all i’ve seen, you’re damn good at giving advice. 

Plus I saw that one anon you answered where you told the person not to admit they cheated if it’d get them in more trouble than they deserve, and I salut you for that. (I remember you also told them that cheating is wrong and mostly don’t do it- don’t worry I got the right message). 

Anyway, my point is, there aren’t many places people feel safe enough to talk about their problems or insecurities or even dangers. Especially on the internet. So you’ve made a really good community here. You should be proud. 

But we’re doing full honesty right? So honestly, I think that it seems like sometimes you don’t have enough faith in yourself. 

I mean your fics are amazing, but also, they’re fucking free and a gift to the fandom. So you shouldn’t feel the need to meet anyone’s demands or be good enough for anyone but yourself. 

And here, you have helped so many people, I understand insecurity is a part of living, but maybe you don’t get how helpful your blog is. Whenever I come on here, you’ve posted a microfic or made a marauders joke or truly helped someone (with annoyingly good advice btw, i’m an adult and yet NO WHERE NEAR as mature, so good on u), and it’s soothing. You’re soothing.

Give yourself credit, is what i’m saying. 

You’re allowed to feel proud that you help people, proud that people love your writing, and ignore anyone who’s an asshole cause they’re dumb anyway.

And don’t forget that you don’t owe anyone anything. You don’t owe anyone a fic, or a tumblr post or an anon answer or even (within reason) kindness. You’re being generous with your time and your kindness by helping people. And while obviously that’s a good thing, you shouldn’t feel pressured to do so. 

Wait let me rephrase that- anyone who pressures you to do so is a bad person and should be strongly ignored. 

You don’t have to apologise for not wanting to post or be on social media. And anyone who cares should value that you’re taking time for yourself.

I know this is super unpopular, but I love well done miscommunication in fanfics! Hate it in most movies tho!!

-> also what I think constitutes “good” miscommunication basically boils down to “ is the miscommunication plot or character motivated?” cause in a lot of media the miscommunication feels forced and only meant to prolong or escalate the story

-> but if the miscommunication happens bc the characters are, for example, insecure about sharing certain info/feelings it is way more captivating and relatable (to me)

-> so this is ofc directly related to (Mutual) Pining <3 (plus also connected to another fave of mine: Memory Loss/Amnesia & also secret identity)

2. Forced proximity!!

-> I’m counting both sharing a bed and stuff like fake relationship under this umbrella

-> I just love when characters are forced to interact with each other in a different and typically more intimate way than they usually do! (and what it reveals about themselves and their relationship to eachother!)

3. Fix-it fanfics

-> I actually love original stories that have tragic endings! But there are many ways a story can end in a disappointing way and make me immeditaly turn to what all the wonderful fanfic authors have come up with in order to clean up the mess!

I have way too many favourite fanfics tbh... SO I'm actually gonna do both general and smosh ones I enjoyed a lot recently!

Be My Savior - Chapter 1 - jessebee - Supernatural [Archive of Our Own] -> this is me coming out as lowkey more of a Sabriel than Destiel fan 🙈 Like ofc Destiel have the better canon story, and I do love them very much; However Sabriel fanfics captured my heart when I was a teenager and are still hanging on by a thread! (also I can still make myself cry instantly via a headcanon I created for them ages ago and that's gotta count for smth 😹)

i've written a bit more for part 2 and planned a bit more. ngl... when i was writing both parts at once i didn't anticipate the second half of the story being so long. ripping two people apart is easy, but bringing them together despite everything is way harder. especially with so many theories and asks, i've really been combing through my plot and trying to make sure it makes sense with all that everyone has pointed out, and i really hope it can be a satisfying read that follows the first part 😭 actually im considering releasing a preview for the second part, just to sort of put something here first in case the second part takes longer than i expect !!!! but i think not longer than a month :)

also thank you so so much for mentioning that and encouraging me to stick w/ what i want to write... it really means a lot to me :) this is my first fic with such divisive opinions about plot, and while i usually like to fulfil requests and morph my writing to satisfy readers, it's a little hard to do for this one because everyone wants a little something different. some feel like fun speculations and others somehow feel like instructions and it can be confusing for me to read, but i'm trying to internalise the fact that i can't please everyone with my writing and there definitely will be people who don't like/agree with the way it turns out :)

So, I decided to answer some questions from this ao3 writers' wrapped ask game for my writing in 2023! I don't have my asks open on this blog BUT if anyone did happen to want to send asks, you can do so on my sideblog @fandomsandfairytales :)

In this post, I'm answering #2, 3, 5, 7, 9, 10, and 14!

2. How many fics did you post this past year?

Two, and they were my first ever published fics! I am honestly so, so proud of them. I had a beta-reader for my first one, which was fantastic. "Mending the Tears" was for the Inkheart fandom, and "A Lack of Education" was for the Six of Crows/Grishaverse fandom. Here are the links and descriptions:

Mending the Tears (1,402 words, T, oneshot) - “She looks at you when she thinks you won’t notice. She follows you with her eyes as if looking for herself in your face. And no doubt she wishes both of us would tell her what it’s like among the dead, and whether we saw Cosimo there.” “I saw two of him,” said Dustfinger softly. “I expect she’d gladly exchange me for either of them.” He turned and looked down at the lake. - Mo and Dustfinger have a talk about Brianna—particularly about Dustfinger’s complicated relationship with her. Takes place during Inkdeath, at the Castle in the Lake.

A Lack of Education (1,454 words, T, oneshot) - Matthias wakes up one morning to see blood on the sheets he’s sharing with Nina. Or, Matthias Helvar gets an education in menstruation.

3. How many fandoms/pairings did you write for this past year?

Two fandoms: Inkheart and Six of Crows (aka Grishaverse). I wrote one romantic pairing (Nina Zenik/Matthias Helvar from Six of Crows) and one platonic pairing (Mo Folchart & Dustfinger from Inkheart).

5. What fic surprised you with how much interaction it got this past year?

Well, both did, to be honest. But I was surprised and touched by people's comments on Mending the Tears, which was my first published fic. Inkheart is a much smaller fandom than Six of Crows/Grishaverse, so I didn't think I'd get a lot of interaction. However, I got a few thoughtful comments on it—one from my beta reader (who was super awesome & helpful and complimented my writing!!!), one from a guest who said that they never thought they'd comment on ppl's fics but they were so impressed by my fic that they had to (I nearly cried over that one), and one that said the way I write has a poetic feel and felt so true to the characters. When first publishing, I reminded myself multiple times that interaction was a bonus, not the reason I was putting my work out there; yet the comments I've gotten have been so rewarding and encouraging, and I treasure every one of them. I don't know how to describe how amazing it makes me feel to know people enjoy my writing, but suffice it to say, it's pretty great :)

7. Share a line/paragraph/snippet that you were especially proud of from a work this year! (@brievel, you asked this of me in your response to my ask.)

From "Mending the Tears": "And I think you need to tell her—and Roxane—the truth.” This last came out rather forcefully. “You think I haven’t?” “I know you haven’t. I can feel the tension in your heart.” Dustfinger was taken aback. Despite the fact that he and Silvertongue were on friendly terms now, and that they were bound together by their return from the White Women’s Halls, he still wasn’t fully comfortable with how closely their emotions were tied.

I love Dustfinger and Mo's friendship, and much of their dialogue in Mending the Tears came easily! This specific exchange between them flowed quite naturally, and I love it and am quite proud of it. I personally hold the opinion that "You think I haven't?" "I know you haven't." slaps, and it's probably one of my favorite bits of dialogue I've ever written.

9. What are you most proud of accomplishing in your writing goals this past year?

Hmm, well, I hadn't started out the year specifically *planning* to publish any fics. To my memory, that is. I had been slowly working on Mending the Tears and A Lack of Education since 2022, when neither of them had names yet. (They honestly didn't have names until the days I published them, lol.)

But anyway, whether or not I had planned any writing goals, I am proud that I finished both fics AND published them. I've never published any of my writing anywhere, ever, so it's a big deal to me.

10. What are your writing goals for the upcoming year?

Generally, to write more! :D Lol. I would love to finish and publish two of my current fanfiction WIPs (both Tolkien). I also want to work more on my other fanfiction sort of-WIPs that are really rough right now, which are Tolkien and Inkheart based (separately, not a crossover). I have so many ideas, but only so much time and Writing Stamina™️.

I tentatively would like set a goal to work on other, non-fanfiction writing projects/stories. However, I'm not sure how motivated I'll be to do that. It would be mainly picking up old projects I've worked on, and it wouldn't be stuff I'd publish.

14. Give us a sneak peek of one of your upcoming works!

This is from the first chapter of "Lost and Found" (which is one of the few WIPs I actually have a proper name for XD). It'll probably be my next published fic. It's a Tolkien fic (specifically focused on Silmarillion characters).

He should have known it would not be a good night for Maedhros, and yet it still surprised him when he heard the sounds of furious cursing and stomping on the floor above him.

Maglor resolved to leave him alone, for it was rare that his presence would help on nights like these, but once a particularly loud crash reached his ears, he sighed and left his room.

Steeling himself, he took a deep breath and thumped on Maedhros’ door.

“It’s Maglor,” he called through the door. “I—”

The door abruptly swung open to reveal Maedhros, looking unkempt and wary. “What?”

“I just…” His words caught in his throat. I wanted to check on you.

Maedhros sighed and walked back towards his bed, leaving the door open for Maglor. He came in and closed the door carefully behind him, before turning to see Maedhros stalking back and forth—presumably what he had been doing before Maglor arrived. The flickering fire in the hearth cast long shadows across the floor, and the room was in disarray with clothes, armor, and papers everywhere. A glance at the broken pieces of an inkwell on the floor next to Maedhros’ desk told Maglor where the earlier loud sound had come from.

“It was my fault.”

Maedhros’ low mutter drew Maglor’s gaze from the scene. “The inkwell?”

“No—yes, well—that too.” Maedhros sat down heavily on the end of his bed.

i've read ab intra like 5 times bc it's GREAT but there's something weird about it like... EVERY SINGLE TIME i forget that it was written by you and then i look for it EVERYWHERE like i check every single xreader author i know and then i see ab intra and go wow what is this (i SUCK at reading summaries im sorry) and then?????? THIS WAS ITTTT what makes it even weirder is that i check your account regularly to read even the shortest drabbles!!! i think you are an AMAZING author. i dont even write myself but i read your answers to ppl asking for advice on writing bc im so curious about what it is that you put in these stories

I already get way more support than I know what to do with, but ab intra is like, possibly my most underrated, least appreciated fic, and so I'm very very happy you love it.

First of all, hope you’re feeling better! I honestly didn’t expect Chapter 7 to come out this fast but THANK YOU for giving your insatiable audience such a sweet treat before Valentine’s Day 💕

Secondly, I’m guessing you are from or live in the UK? I thought it when I was reading It Had to Be You and the scenes brought me back to so many familiar neighbourhoods and streets. London now feels much more romantic because of your story ♥️

Thirdly, Edith Piaf songs as chapter titles… you certainly know how to seize this romantic’s heart. My favourite Piaf song is La Foule. It’s probably won’t be featured in this story, but perhaps it can be of inspiration to something else?

Furthermore, I understand your response to my Benedict POV comment. I’ve never done creative writing so I don’t often notice writing techniques like narratives. Your explanation makes perfect sense to me. The focus is on the emotional struggle of the female reader and how she eventually falls into the inevitable. Benedict, on the other hand, doesn’t need to wrestle with his conscience to accept this fate.

Lastly, you’re truly a talented writer with amazing imagination! The first fic I read was Sonnet 29 and I still revisit it sometimes. Thank you for creating a world in which I can feel fierce passion and undying love ��� the kind lacking in the real life.

This list will be unordered, because I am bad at sorting the ideas in my brain 😂

My friends make me really happy, both irl and not (@the-magpieprince ❤️ thank you for letting me rant at you), and even tho I may be rather asocial and introverted, I do love being around ppl. My parents are also ppl who make me really happy, and every time we talk it puts a smile on my face and makes me less anxious

Maths. That's it. I fucking love maths so much, it's actually worrying. I spend most of my free time either thinking/working on my thesis, or writing weird codes on python to make cute gifs. Maths is like the thing that I constantly think about, and has gotten me out of so many panic attacks (prime factorisation or Fibonacci sequence is my go to)

Reading. I've always loved reading, and I didn't do it much during lockdown because I wasn't in the vibe, but I'm back now! Currently I'm going through lotr, and I've just started the two towers. Reading is such a fun activity for me, and I sincerely look forward to reading every night, even if it's just a page

During lockdown I didn't really read much, but instead I got much more into twitch. I used to watch replays casually, and maybe watch a few lives here and there, but it wasn't a constant. Now, however, I have a weekly schedule with something pretty much every night (and if not, I'll watch replays). For instance right now, I have la soirée du lundi on Mondays, Popcorn on Tuesdays, replays or casual streams on Wednesdays, Backseat on Thursdays, la soirée est tienne on Fridays, replays or casual streams on Saturdays, and Indiemanche on Sundays. These shows, and these streamers do bring a smile on my face every time I watch them, I love their good and chill vibe.

Fandom (and particularly the rnm fandom, and everyone on discord ❤️) is such a great thing, and really makes me happy (and the Tumblr block and filtering aspects). Writing fics, reading fics, seeing amazing gifs and fanart, is such a wonderful thing. And I love being a part of it all, it's such a great feeling to have ppl from all over the world liking the same thing and talking about it

So this is the list, I think this is a good summary of what makes me happy, tho there's for sure more stuff! Like food, and going to the gym, and watching the flowers outside and many more things.

I realised during lockdown and during my first year of uni that I was not very happy in general, so I decided to start with small things and spending a few moments a day just sitting down and listing one thing that made me happy that day.

And those five things listed up there and the ones that make me the happiest, so I'll keep doing those (sorry babe @the-magpieprince , that means I'll probably keep renting to you ❤️😂)

i totally agree w you though there's certain fanbases who take shit way too far... some more than others but i feel like it can be found in every fandom to a certain degree. there are even icky adam fans out there that i try to steer clear of. like ppl who slander his wife, that shit is so not cool. i love him and thirst after him as much as the next fan but like man :( hes a human being and shes a human being and they love each other and have kids... theres a certain line that should not be crossed. ppl tend to forget that celebrities are real people with feelings.

and aaaaa omg thank you!! it makes me so happy to hear that ppl genuinely enjoy my silly little stories about my emo little guy <3 nicotine stains has got to be my fav so far as well, its literally so fun to write and delinquent!kylo just fills my heart with so much joy. its also nice to not write something so heavy and dark every now and then for a change. kylo ren fanfiction in general tends to always be super sad and sometimes i just wanna see my emo space bf be happy for once lmao.
