Upon taking off your mask to reveal your face, he knew he was smitten. He had helped you out of the trap he had set for hunting purposes. Hearing your rough way of speaking and very unladylike mannerisms, he set his mind on bringing you back to the palace and assigning a tutor for you to learn the Empire’s customs for young women.

As he was searching the hospital and such for any medical records of you or your family, he discovered that your family was actually a part of the noble scene within the Eastern Empire. When he investigated further, he learned that your mother was the body they had found deep in the woods when he was 11. You were presumed dead as a baby, but you told him that you were raised by the boars that inhabited the area.

You had even told him that the boar head you always wore was your boar-mother’s. To everyone else, that fact was very disturbing, but you seemed to have a very sentimental attachment to your mask. Thus, he allowed it to stay in your chambers. After all, he wants to be on your good side when he asks a very important question.

When you got to a certain point in your lessons where you were behaving like a typical lady, aside from when you were absolutely sure that someone was challenging you, he proposed the offer of you becoming his second concubine. You went silent for a few moments before you started shaking in anger as you told him that neither of your mothers were disloyal to either of your fathers and marched off.

Rashta

She was at the palace door, waiting for Sovieshu’s return from hunting. However, she did not expect to see a very beautiful woman, dressed rather indecently and ruggedly, to be at his side just like she was however many months ago. Maybe this situation was different, though, and the Emperor was just doing the right thing.

Fortunately, she was not aware of Sovieshu asking you to become his second concubine. Otherwise, she might have destroyed a certain mask that she knew you were very attached to out of pure anger. That would have resulted in a catastrophic battle as you still knew how to fight because of your boar family.

Navier

She was originally upset that her husband had brought another woman into the palace, but you were very different from Rashta. In a short amount of time, she saw that you held no romantic attraction towards Sovieshu but rather a desire to serve her instead. One example would be the many acorns and shiny rocks you had given her, a mannerism she knew was characteristic of boars.

Yeah, the Emperor had informed her of both your noble and animalistic background. She remembers being a young girl when she had learned of both ‘your’ and your mother’s death. But she wasn’t too sad then because she had never gotten to know you or your mother. She did get to know the rest of the Hashibira family.

Navier had also overseen your tutors and governesses to make sure that you were getting the best education you could. She would even allow you to copy her because she knew that you learned better that way. It took a while, but the lessons were working and you were becoming more ladylike. Your family had even commented that you were very polite, and she rewarded you by ordering some tempura for you.

When you showed up to your afternoon tea meetings with Queen in your hands, she let out a gasp of shock as she took the bird from you. He didn’t seem injured, but rather shaken up, so she was relieved. You explained that it was a shiny bird and thus you deemed it worthy for her, and she let out a giggle at your actions.

Heinrey

Seeing you for the first time was definitely an experience he never wanted to relive. You attacked him and carried him to the Empress. He only regained his breath once he was in the arms of his Beloved, but he saw how loyal you were to her and so the two of you understood each other on that particular level.

Navier, not knowing that he was Queen, had told him about you a few different times. You were a noblewoman who was taken to the forest by your mom in an attempt to flee an attack, but your mother had died and you had gone missing. The story was actually very interesting to him, and he is surprised to hear that you were raised by boars.

After all, your behavior did not reflect that anymore. Your lessons had trained you to act like and be a proper lady, but you still knew how to fight (as seen when you attacked him while he was in bird form just to bring him to Her Imperial Majesty).

Now, you knew that he was Queen. However, you treated him like a friend and an ally. You also started bringing him shiny things, which made him pick up a book about boars so that he could understand you better. Any friend of the Empress’s is a friend of his, and thus he felt obligated to get to know you.

Kosair

When you first met each other, there was an instant connection. You weren’t like the uptight and proper ladies of the court, and you didn’t mind getting roughed up a little. The two of you often play-fight as a way to show your aggressive love towards each other, and it once ended up in you pinning him by straddling his waist. The shade of red his face turned is incomparable.

The two of you also bond in the fact that you both absolutely despise Rashta. You just thought that she was all bark and no bite, but Kosair knew that she was plotting against his younger sister. Another thing you both have in common: you both love Navier like a sister (in Kosair’s case, she actually is his sister, but anyways).

You have shown him the boar mask that you usually wore in the woods, and you explained that you had been raised by boars after your human mother had died. It would have been a disgusting sight to anyone else, but to Kosair it was as though you were sharing a brooch that was a family heirloom. He listened as you told him about your life and how the pressure of being a noblewoman was piling up on your shoulders. He placed a kiss on the back of your hand and reassured you that it didn’t matter how you acted because he would always love you anyways.

Once it had gotten around that Sovieshu had asked if you would become his concubine, your beloved was incredibly angry. In fact, one would think that he was asked instead of you because of how furious he was. You had to hold him back from throwing hands with the Emperor, which was definitely a difficult task.

Oh lord, well this sounds fun, I'm a bit unsure what you meant with a few parts but I'll try my best to do the whole "Blitz meet his S/Os dysfunctional family" Schtick. He's dealt with plenty before after all.

Blitzo gets invited by his Fem S/O for dinner with her dysfunctional parents.

He has very awkward feelings on biological family. His own crashed and burned, Got a front row seat to Moxxie's thing with his Dad, and even remembers how dismissive Paimon's treatment of Stolas a little bit. Not to mention Loona's abandoned her or at least left her alone and he's ready to kill em if he ever meets them but that's all beside the point.

Point is he has a jaded view on famlies. So when you invite him he makes a off handed remark, saying he hopes your parents were good ones, he cares about you after all, and when you awkwardly chuckle and stammer at an answer that care turns to concern. "Babe? They weren't... you know, abusive right?"He asks again only stiffening you more.

He never asked about your parents, he keeps his own past and family under wraps so he gives you the same courtesy, if you wanted to tell him that's your choice and sees no reason to push for answers. But the idea that you had anything like he did makes his stomach squirm.

Eventually you explain that while they... weren't perfect, they still tried, especially your mom despite everything and that you'd like him to meet them. He agrees wanting to make a good impression if you've already discussed it with them and the date is set.

He's not gonna ask even though he's curious, he just wants you to feel good again, he wants to see your smile, he didn't expect you to have pain like that, but maybe you being so kind despite that makes him love you more he thinks as he wraps his tail around your waist.

When you get home you've already fallen asleep so he carries you to bed, getting you out of your shoes as he kicks off his boots and removes his jacket and joins you. Hoping holding you close makes your dreams stray from remaking tonight, as his often do about his own awful nights. Either way he makes sure your safe the best he can.

she's also glad she has parental-ish-kinda-somewhat figures that complement each other and are not a downward spiral into death like her birth parents were. all three are kinda Peculiar about family so grace and rubin at least are not on a My Father / My Father type of name basis but grace does see the three of them as a stable unit. she's glad she's fed something else than alcohol (even if peter's cooking is bad. straight up. rubin does the cooking)

-OKAYOKAY so you may notice that Survivor, Monk, and Gourmand all have similar markings- darker back patch, light tummy, tipped ears/stalks- this is because Gourmand is their grandpa in my interpretation!! they share traits because famly..

-neither Survivor nor Monk are fully grown, though Survivor is almost an adult. theyre the slugcat equivalent of teenagers. thats why theyre a little shorter than everyone else. however Enot and Rivulet are fully grown, Rivulet is just built for a different environment and Enots a fucked up inversion of Survivor

-Hunter, of course, gots the rots. i dont know why nobody utilizes Hunters scarred eye in HLL designs tbh- because the scar and the closed eye together make an X shape. and you know what else has an X shape? rot cyst. food for your thoughts :)

-the feds don't want you to know this but you can make any slugcat of your choice as fat and round as you want and nobody can stop you because they are your slugcat designs. anyways chubby arti :) and chubby nightcat :) and plump monk :)

-Gourm... im love Gourm... theyre the second tallest slugcat, Spearmaster takes first place as resident stickbug

-okay so! if you may notice, pre-canon event Arti and current Arti have some differences. previous Arti has some little scars, and a darker end to their tail. current Arti has burns that cover those. thats intentional! i like to think that when the incident happened, the anger and grief took them over, erasing all personhood in the eyes of both the scavs and theirself in favor of carnage and fury and destruction. the burns represent that. the signs of a life well lived, that little dot of personhood? gone, replaced only by rage and hurting and memories of a tragic incident. (dont worry Arti fans in my little au they arent sad and enraged forever, they do heal. eventually.)

-more design notes about Arti but their right leg is burnt and hurts to put too much pressure on, so they prefer exploding if they have a long distance to cover or somewhere to reach. also, i gave Arti a tailtip that resembles a wick that was a result of the burn scars, thank you @pansear-doodles for bein cool about people takin inspiration from your amazing designs!!

-Spearmaster is comically tall and i love that. they also have Suns's logo on the back of their head. its like a watermark! Hunter doesn't have a watermark because in my interpretation, the rot stuff was intentional, added by NSH as a ticking time bomb as a sort of motivation for Hunter, so like why bother claiming a slugcat thats gonna either ascend or experience a fate worse than death

-also the pearl experience left a permanent scar for Spears because why not

-Rivulet.. the funny fishie.... i made almost zero changes to my orevious design of them because it is perfect. just added like some extra gills. theye very short and have little ears because little ears probably help with swimming and stuff to be like aerodynamic. they also have those little flaps on their side like nudibranches!! lil reference to sea slugs :)

-Saint takes inspiration from lynxes (ears) and sea bunnies (the spots!!). Saint is also the oldest slugcat here. i made their forehead dots eyes because that is COOL !!!! i love extra eyes. also chest floof :)

-Survivor and Monks parents had to take care of THREE pups ON THEIR OWN WITHOUT A COLONY TO SUPPORT THEM and they have zero special abilities to their name unlike Arti or Gourmand. theyre gonna be a little scuffed up

-Arti's pups are a mix between a carnivorous slugcat (Arti) and a regular slugcat (whoever Arti had kids with). the blue pup has a diet like Gourmands, where it can eat meat but it wont get as much out of it as a carnivorous slugcat. the green pup has the typical Slugcat diet.

Alain Delon died yesterday and it struck me as unusual or perhaps not that recently I have been having a Delon binge watching of his films in the past few weeks. For me it was a rediscovery of just how good he was, especially ‘Plein Soleil’ (1960) the original French version of the Talented Mr. Ripley Delon was a revelation in that just sucking all the air out of the camera while he was on screen. Everyone thinks Lily is the most imp Marauder era character but I disagree.

What did she do? Decline death when she had an oppurtunity. Brave and loyal. But I think James plays a bigger role than her. Lily only dies when she has a chance at survival and decides to stop being friends with Snape bc Snape's bigotry was affecting her.

James meanwhile plays a bigger part both b4 and after dying. He and Snape are sworn rivals. He is the on who understands how dark the path Snape chose (and probably before Snape).

He's the one that, despite the war, manages to look at someone from themselves and not their families. He looks at the person not the family, or at the lycanthropy, or blood status.

He's the one that saves Remus, Peter and Sirius from themselves and others repeatedly. He saves Snape too (and foghting the war he obvi saves others as well)

Also, I don't think the prophecy is alone the reason Voldemort went after the Potters.

I mean obvi plays a role bc they had a 'child born as the seventh month dies' and 'defies thrice' Voldemort but I think James had a bigger role in this than Lily.

I mean was Lily really so exceptional that Voldemort wanted *her*? I think not. Not saying she's dumb but she definitely isn't *that* important. So why does Voldemort ask her to join? I can see two reasons:

James

I think Snape asked Voldemort to consider her, just like he asked her to be spared.

I also think, however, that the reasson Voldemort agreed was not only bc Snape was trusted and a spy and what not, but also bc Lily was involved with James. James Potter, a wealthy pureblood. Probably the only wealthy pureblood family which was so known and likely powerful that fought against him.

Basically I think by the 70s, there were three big pureblood famlies, and that the rest of the wizarding world often bended to their will. If all three were with Voldemort he would be unstoppable. Not even Dumbledore would be a problem. And Voldemort had two; Blacks and Malfoys. Because of this he had a huge following, bc of this was the war so big and long and dangerous.

But he didn't have the Potters. The three living Potters, Fleamont, Euphemia and James were extremely open about where their priorities lied, unlike the Blacks and Malfoys who were hiding their support, handling things from being the curtains, the Potter made it public from the first signs of conflict (in fact even before that) that Voldemort did not have their support. Later James remained, and he married Lily.

Lily Evans just happened to be the girl Snape believed would do great on his side, and so he tried to convince him. She denied, and so did James. When he realised which famlies the prophecy spoke of, Voldemort chose Harry, because he was half-blood but more importantly because the Potter family, because James, was a threat.

I suppose this might have gone to theory/head canon towards the end, but you got the point right? I think James was far more important Canon-wise.

And in the main series we see Harry yearning for James all the time. Lily is barely mentioned in comparision. He has some 7 father figures but he wants James, but he's perfectly happy with Molly as a mother figure.

Also, James happens to be where he gets his quidditch skill from (which is important). Harry's patronus is also James animagus form and I think in that way James keeps Harry safe.

Lily seems to more or less exist bc Harry needs to have a mother whereas James exists as a stand-a-lone very important character, and I think he very easily defeats Lily in most imp. character of that time.

What did Lily contribute? The protection charm thing? I don't thing that helped Harry at all ever. Not even when the text says so. I think he aquired Potter Luck from his father, James.

I also think that Harry is, Canon-wise, more like James because we only see Lily as someone Snape is obsessed with, someone who Sirius and Remus knew, someone who James married, someone who is the mother of Harry, someone who was prefect with Remus etc. Harry? We know him as him, just like we know James as James, in opposition to Lily was that in relation to that.

I'll get to a last point which was Slughorn and the memory Harry acquired. Harry was going to get that memory no matter what bc he had drank the liquid luck.

Literally anyone else could have been Harry's mother and the only change would be is Harry's eyeshape, colour and nose.

Male someone else Harry's dad and everything changes, from is he going to be the boy who lived and does Snape hate him *as much* to his personality. Half the time he lives it's luck and things that he has due to James so I think James definitely takes this win.

okay so, i get what you're saying. but lily does still play a very large part (in my opinion, slightly more than james, but i can understand if you think james is more important).

james is severus' rival (i'm pretty sure it's more severus thinking of james as his rival than the other way around, whilst james doesn't really, he more messes with severus because of his ideology + trying to entertain sirius, but anyway. getting a bit off topic there). james and severus are 'rivals' because of lily. without lily, they would have barely interacted ever. lily is severus' best friend/crush and severus gets jealous that james spends lots of time with her/lily dates him. they do have that argument on the train in first year, but again. the conversation started between lily and severus- without lily they would never have argued about hogwarts houses. lily is the central point to their conflict- severus fights james and his friends because he wants to control/be with lily and he thinks james is in the way of that, even though lily just doesn't like him in that way. and james fights severus because severus is picking a fight with him/severus is bigoted.

also severus is pretty major in the storyline of harry potter- like he plays a vital role in the majority of the books/films. and everything he does is fuelled by his obsession/inability to get over lily evans. he's overly mean to harry because he looks like james who he thinks stole lily from him. he's overly mean to other students because he's mad that his ex-best friend/childhood crush died. he's a spy for dumbledore because he knows that's what lily would want from him (ish). he secretly helps harry because he is still lily's son. literally every action of this man (who is in the top 10 most important hp characters for this storyline) is because of lily.

i'm pretty sure voldemort wanted both james and lily, not one or the other. both. they are both very powerful and if voldemort gets them than he gets two very powerful wizards that had previously been against them. also yes, i do think james is smarter than lily. but, maybe this is my own hc, but she is more powerful. she's slughorn's favourite even as a muggleborn likely from a working class or middle class family, because she's very good in class. she manages to do that dumb mother-y magic to protect harry (i disagree that it wasn't effective- without it harry would've died when voldemort tried to kill him as a baby. he is the boy who lived because of lily. not saying it's not such a dumb plotline, i honestly think its so fucking stupid- but that's my beef with jkr (well part of it. i hate her so much for countless reasons ofc). and i know you said this bit was more your headcanon, which is fine of course. but in my mind and I'm pretty sure it's canon that there is the sacred 28 (so that's 28 families that are seen as fully pureblooded) and i think voldemort would go after them all, which the potter's are a part of, but again, that's one family out of 28 and he probably only has like half during the 70s. also he went after alice and frank as well- as neville also fitted the prophecy so voldemort tried to recruit alice and frank as well. maybe the guy was just trying to recruit all the order members tbh.

i think with harry seeming to care more about james is more because he knows more about james. like, yes he's been living with his mum's sister for years (oh yeah didn't mention the dursleys. but real quick, the people he grew up with are lily's relatives. he's abused, which is of course a huge part of the protagonist's life, is because of lily and her past with her sister. petunia was jealous that lily was a witch and not her, and disagreed with the way lily lived/who she dated, so then decided to abuse her sister's son after her sister died). anyway, harry only really has petunia to tell him about his mum, who isn't really gonna do that, especially in a nice way. he does have slughorn for like a year, who tells him a bit. and remus, who also tells him a little (and i think sirius does?? i don't remember), and then obviously you have severus' memories. which i wouldn't really fully trust either. whilst harry has got his dad's best friend and his other close friend telling him stuff for several years. james was more outgoing in school, so there's also more teachers/hagrid/rosmerta that remember james more and have stories for harry about him. whilst lily has a lot less. but that doesn't mean she's not as important to harry. they're both what harry wants more than anything- equally. ^you are so very right here. i fully agree. but i don't think it takes away lily's importance. i think it becomes part of jkr's sexism/sexist writing. she just loves to put her female characters in mother/wife roles and give them absolutely nothing else. because being a mother is just so fucking important and the biggest thing in a women's life whilst being a father isn't important at all and is just what a man comes home to after a day at work. but being a mother is all a women has, being a mother gives you mother superpowers and magic baking abilities. You had just died and was turned into a phantump afterwards, not just a regular phantump, but a shiny one. You hand also just bran away from a trainer who wanted to catch you because off it as you could hear them say things that involved you being a shiny and could catch a pretty penny if sold or something.

You had somehow got taken into another world, thoug you don’t know how that was possible or when you did appear in this new world as you passed out right afterwards with how exhausted and the adrenaline from both running and trying to get away from that trainer.

When you met both sun and macaque it was when you had bumped into them as they were visiting their son and daughter. Y’all were close to pigsy’s noodles so they decided to bring your over with them to see if anyone there would know what you’re and if they had seen you anywhere around the city.

Sun decided to adopt you as you’re so small and could get killed (again) by something bigger than you. Macaque and the others thought the same but mostly I trust macaque with you watcher than sun.

When you see the trainer again it was 2 month after and when you had finally come to terms with the things that had happened to you. You had tried to use some of the Pokémon moves that you think a phantump would know but that was stopped with the pokemon that the trainer sent out; which was another ghost type.

You start to get fatigue from the battle before passing out with a cry; which seem to have alerted macaque and the others to go see what is going on and who would feel the wrath for messing with one of his daughters.

They see you getting absorbed into a red and white ball which sent them in a rage with how much damage they saw on you before you had diosapeared into that ball with a click. Macaque and sun made sure to capture and get information on why they had done what they did to you before beating the trainer to almost death if it wasn’t for you getting out of the ball and started to randomly glow which seem to have frighten the trainer for some reason (the trainer thinks you’re evolving. Lol.), then sun and macaque see that you had been given a more human body and started calling out to the two monkeys.

Freenoodles:

Tang and pigsy both met you when you had literally an into them and bumped into the two; you were running from the trainer when you had bumped into the couple, the trainer somehow appearing with you in this weird new world.

They had seen the trainer coming to them and made the right call and made a run for it away from the treainer to get you and them to safety in case any chaos happened with that trainer.

Pigsy had fed you while tang calmed you down with everything he could think that would calm you down; like, singing a lullaby or humming one, reading you a story, comforting you with cuddles, and lots of other things to make sure you wouldn’t feel scared or something.

After 1 month of staying with the couple and their friends and family it seem the trainer had figured out where you were hidde, though it seem to have taken longer than the time pigsy and tang had tried to estimate and guess on.

The trainer had kidnapped you but good thing everyone was on high alert about your situation and was able to follow the trainer to a open space that was a bit far from where you were kidnapped from.

Though when they finally got there you had passed out with one last cry before disappearing into that red and white ball that was thrown by the trainer.

Tang and pigsy was basically seeing red when they went after the trainer before they could pick up the ball that had you in it. They would fight to get you back in their arms and won’t let this trainer get to you. The couple had gotten the information on how to get you out of the ball and to destroy the ball after getting you out. When they did get you out you seem to have gain a human body as well as freedom; the trainer wasn’t lucky and was sent to the police with their crimes plus some others that weren’t true.

Waterspider/silktea:

Huntsman had found you all alone in the forest he was in and decided to bring you back to sandy since he’s still learning about how to take care of living being besides himself and sandy.

When huntsman showed you to sandy, he was so sad about what could’ve happened before huntsman had found you and glade that his lovers had found you in the first place; plus it lets sandy know how huntsman had grown before the two met each other.

You’re a bit wary of the cats even though you had been around cat like pokemon before, it’s just in your new phantump instincts to be wary of other beings sept for your evolution, and with the fact that you never seen cat pokemon like these before.

Mo seems to be the one you like the most and with him he seems to comfort you and knows what you could possibly need around this boat/home.

When the same trainer as before had found you in this new world, it was when the four (counting mo) of you had went on a picnic on a hill outside of the big city.

The trainer was crazy and hysterical from not finding you for sometime until they themself had appeared into this new world. It seem that times past differently in both world from what you gathered from their crazy speech.

They somehow distracted sandy and huntsman long enough with their pokemon to kidnap you an flee from the couple which made huntsman rage and almost had sandy break his composure if it weren’t for the fact they got you fast and safely in their arms before the trainer could run away in the ball they hands caught you in. Sandy had released you by pressing the button, both not expecting the very much more human body you now had gained.

Dbk family:

You had escaped the trainers clutches as the two of you had appeared into this world both in different destination thankfully. You had met Redson first who heard the cry’s of a little child and went to see what had happened and what was wrong.

When he had found where you had hidden yourself in he was shocked to see a little whisp like creature with a white/dead(?) wood like head and little antlers scared and shaken up along with crying the same cry he had heard that lead him here to you.

He decided to bring you with him on his way to his boyfriends house like the had planned on doling before finding you. After he had showed you to mk and his family and friends; plus getting a bunch load of kisses from mk for his good deed, which made Redson blush, it was finally off to his parents house to show you and hopefully get you adopted by them and become his new little sister.

When he showed you to his parents, they; even though their demons, were a little off put with how you have a child’s cry, pif had soon given into her motherly instincts again and soon began taking care of you and making sure you’re healthy as can be and well fed as well.

Dbk saw how pif had taken to you already and also decide you shall be part of this a family from now on, plus his son and wife are already on bored with it so he didn’t;t see the harm in falling along with them as they have good judgement.

The trainer had followed Redson when they had spotted you in his arms and didn’t want their little ticket to another good pokemon to get away so they went after him not knowing that their about to get their karma hit right back at them.

Redson had figured out that he was being followed but didn’t want to alert you plus he can most definitely take care of the culprit if need be. Though that soon changed as the trainer had used a Pokémon to swipe you out of redson’s arms and into theirs before the treainer ran away. Soon enough the Dbk family went after the kidnapper who stole their daughter away from the family; when they got you out of the ball you seem to have gain a new body, specifically a human body which make them more overprotective thasn before.

Spiderqueen:

You had subconsciously fled down to her lair after running away from the trainer who also came to this world with you. You ended up meeting her first then her minions who now takes care of you after a week of knowing them all.

Spiderqueen notices you being skittish and decided to just keep you with her so you can get used to her as well. After you got comfortable with her, she then have you get used to her subjects as you’re to be heir to her thrown and she would like you to be at least a little comfortable with your bodyguard.

The trainer had found you through the lair where they had fallen like you had 2 moths ago. They had found you while you were alone in your room that the spiders made for you to use.

Though the spider gang had soon came back from what they were doing; mostly getting supplies for future things along with necessities for you and them as well before they spotted the kidnapper, they got back to the lair with half the stuff they needed when syntax got an alert that someone they didn’t know was in the lair with you and was kidnapping you.

They’d had heard your cry before it went silent with only the trainers voice talking to themself which allowed the spiders to know why the kidnapper had tried taking you away from their queen.

It didn’t take that long to get you away from the trainer either, though it’ll take way longer for the trainer to escape the punishment that will befall them afterwards.

When they opened the ball that you were held in, both them and you were shocked to see that you have gain a human form a bit and had soon called out to spiderqueen; calling her mama which resulted in her crying in happyness and relief for getting you back in her arms again.

Benrey's eyes are Weird™. If they're blue that generally means he's doing okay or chill or good, if they're yellow that generally means the vibes are Bad, if they're swirly it's conflict. His eyes are basically a mood ring

Tommy's Sweet Voice translations aren't fully accurate. Sweet Voice isn't just rhymes, it's pure thought, pure consciousness, pure emotion. Every color of Sweet Voice is a general emotion, every bubble of Sweet Voice is one or more thoughts. You can't really stop any thoughts from coming through in Sweet Voice- you can suppress some thoughts and focus some so they come out stronger, but then the thoughts you're suppressing just come out more like whispers. The only surefire way to make sure thoughts don't come out through Sweet Voice is to not use Sweet Voice. Which isn't very easy if your mind's full/you're overwhelmed/you're emotional

Tommy can read/hear Sweet Voice, and the rhyming system makes it easier for the others to remember translations. It's not fully accurate but it's easier to remember, so it works.

I just use rhymes and general stuff because it's easy djhsfkjhdskjfds

Pink to red basically means "I'm very attracted to you" because I have the image in my head where Gordon's like "Tommy what does it mean" and Tommy's trying to figure out how to make it rhyme and Benrey's just like "it means you're hot" and walks away and it takes Gordon a full five seconds to process that HANG ON

Once Gordon decides to try and get to know Benrey he gets kinda fixated on Sweet Voice specifically. Like, canonically he REALLY likes Sweet Voice, there's a scene in the full Act 2 stream where he's asking Benrey a LOT of questions about how it works (not to mention also in act two where he was like "your voice is beautiful"). So post canon he basically gets a giant notebook and starts writing down translations and how SV works

The betrayal was organized because the military told Benrey they only want Freeman, if you sell him out we'll let you and the rest of your team go free as long as you never say a word about what happened here. Benrey was under the assumption Gordon could respawn, and if they killed him, then A) the military would stop following the team, B) the trackers would be disabled, the piece of shit HEV suit which I hate with a burning passion and hope they tore to bits would need to go (meaning hand holdy real), AND it'd be really funny

The Xen Thing was because Benrey now knew Gordon couldn't respawn, so if he went after the Nihilanth it would permakill Gordon. But the Science Team needed to defeat a single powerful being to get out of Xen. They needed a final boss. So what does Benrey do? Kill the Nihilanth, supplant it as the final boss, get the team to kill him.

The exact nature of reality in HLVRAI fluctuates in my head depending on what I want it to be and what'd work best for the story. If it'd work best as a game, it's a game. If it'd work best as not a game, it's not a game. But generally, I kinda think of it as "game but also real." Like it formed its own pocket dimension. It's a game to us, but to them it's entirely real, even if they KNOW it's a game. It's complicated ksjhfkdjhsjfhdsj

Okay think of it like this. To us, that game is just a game. The characters are just polygons and code. Their pasts are, if not outright given to us, nonexistent. Up to speculation. Everything they do is determined by a program written by a real person. But that's not how it is to them! To them, their worlds are entirely real! They're real human beings with fully fleshed out lives. They have pasts and relationships and lives that have shaped them into who they are now. They're people! And after the game ends, their world continues on like it always had. There are still game mechanics like respawning, Dr Coomer is still glitchy as hell, but their world keeps turning outside of the player's influence.

Gordon too is an AI. All the AI are kinda shaped by the player's decisions, but Gordon ESPECIALLY is. The player can't decide what the others say and do, but the player CAN decide what Gordon Freeman says and does. The player's decisions, actions, words, personality, body language, it all influenced Gordon and made him who he is. Surely this will not cause him an existential crisis post canon.

Coomer was supposed to die. The reason he's so glitchy and fucked up is he's the tutorial character, and he was supposed to be killed by the ropes after the Rescas started and he'd taught the player how to play, and Tommy was supposed to be the one giving advice afterwards. But he didn't die, so his code was kinda winging it. (The devs didn't spend as much time on his code as the others because, well, he was supposed to die! So that's why he's really fucking buggy)

Gordon was kinda terrified to sleep for a while after the clone fight. A) betrayal, but B) according to Coomer, every time Gordon sleeps, he's put through unimaginable pain. He does not fucking wanna do that to him because he fuckign lomves them :sobcat: so basically for ages he doesn't sleep unless he absolutely has to (or unless he passes out).

Coomer's unimaginable agony when Gordon sleeps stops after the game ends! Win

whats Brighids and Jacks relationship like with an adult Jack? do they see each other as a parent-child or did they drift apart from one another? if they were at a famly gathering with everyone involved do they sit next to each other and chat? tho a family gathering seems like it would be a somewhat tense affair. i can imagine even just choosing a seat at the dinner table would be awkward. you know arthurs going straight for the head of the table lmao.

They're still pretty close. Whenever Jack goes AWOL, and he is very prone to just up and fucking off without telling anyone, Zee calls Brighid first and at least a quarter of the time he's with her. Jack gets into some very foul, very dark moods sometimes and visiting her, who's basically his mother, screws his head on straight. And Brighid understandably, I think, isn't as forgiving as Rhys is so I'm not sure she and Arthur can regard each other as any sort of kin anymore so I'm not sure about family dinners happening. But on the occasion of Jack's dominionship, and then his eventual complete independence, Arthur didn't antagonize her because I don't think he's any keener than she is to see who he'd pick if forced.

Of the other anglos the only phone calls she's picking up at a bad time Alasdair or Jack or Alfred at certain points. I think they check in often, he visits her, he sends her letters and postcards and telegrams and texts and memes and get her something for Irish and Australian mother's day every year. At the end of the day, well into the modern period, she is in essence the maternal figure in his life.

So it was quite weird for this person to take that and make it about Misogyny and Incels when that has very little to do with it. plus, in recent years I have seen more female villains receiving this treatment often from female viewers/readers. Characters like Princess Azula, Rei Todoroki, Catra, Harley Quinn, and Heather Chandler receive this in increasingly frequent ways often with the defense that any person who dislikes these characters is a misogynist who hates and opresses women.

(pt 4) It is unfortunately a common thing in many fandoms to do to characters, but lately it often seems that any criticism towards a female character, of groups of women, or even an individual woman. is taken to be misogynistic, born from a hatred and fear of women, and often seems to take the form that every man or even most men are just evil, malicious, people or out to get women, and control and abuse them it's quite frankly ridiculous. and I think its an absurd line of thought that needs to die

Finally to answer parts 3 and 4 of your ask.

Yes, you are right that this is also another phenomenom that's pretty widespread these days. But I don't see how you think that negates what was said about the Draco in Leather Pants trope.

In my first post answeing your asks 1 and 2, I've pointed out why I think this poster was right and that the trope itself is sexist - certainly the way it's described on the TV Tropes page is, and so is, in general, the focus on how silly fangirls are ruining everything by stanning male characters they 'woobify' and find hot - while ignoring the equally widespread idolization / whitewashing of villains like TDK Joker, Walter White, Tywin Lannister etc. by fanboys. And that also the examples on the page show that this trope can also just serve as an excuse for people to rant and complain about the fact that other fans dare like characters they hate.

Fans regardless of gender and sexual orientation (and whether they find the characters attractive or not) tend to whitewash and idealize their favorite characters, but also demonize and oversimplify the characters they hate, too. The main reason for this is people's tendency to want to see every story in black and white terms, as a Heroes vs Villains story, and it gets mixed with today's prevalent idea in pop culture that you can't just like or dislike things, you need to prove that what you like is morally superior, and that the things you dislike are morally bad.

I'm not familiar with the examples you mention, but I've certainly seen it. Sometimes it's worshipping villanous female characters (say, Amy Dunne or Cersei Lannister) who are reimagined by the fandom as girlboss feminists. It feels like the flip side of the phenomenom of fanboys worshipping male villains they admire as badasses, but now with added supposed social justice aspect. It may also be a backlash against the real and blatant misogyny that was very pervasive in fandoms (I remember the time when Sansa, Dany and Catelyn were the most hated characters in the ASOIAF fandom, with people using some... interesting arguments. The one that really got me was how many people in the fandom were hating on a pre-teen girl for not wanting to have sex with a grown man she was forced to marry by her captors who were killing her own famly... because they really liked that male character. )

It might also include the rhetoric based on a certain type of (pseudo-)feminism according to which women are inherently good and perfect and can only be heroes and/or victims, while men are naturally aggressive and abusive etc. This can get hilariously hypocritical: recently a Twitter user went on a rant against fans who like abusive male characters, while being a self-proclaimed stan of Cersei Lannister and Serena Joy.

But it's not like this kind of rhetoric is used just against men (you didn't explicitly say that, but I felt like it was implied in your ask). Women will often throw accusations of misogyny against each other, and women will often show internalized misogyny towards other women in those arguments - and both things will often happen at the same time. This also happens a lot in real life arguments about politics and social issues - especially when people use girlboss feminism to argue that anyone who doesn't support or, god forbid, criticizes their favorite female politician or celebrity, is "misogynistic" and that every criticism of her, no matter how legitimate the reasons are and how little they have to do with gender, are "rooted in misogyny". In the course of that, stans often don't have a problem with mocking, attacking and bullying any number of other (usually less powerful women), and using all sorts of misogynistic insults and assumptions about them.

Now, the tricky thing is that this doesn't mean that hatred or criticism or lack of support for a woman in real life, or a female character, is fully free of misogyny, even if the woman in question is very problematic. It probably always does play a role. Some people - maybe even a lot of people - will really say and do misogynistic things about a woman even when there are perfectly legitimate reasons to criticize her that have nothing to do with gender.

Take a female character like Cersei Lannister as an example. She is a narcissist with internalized misogyny who is abusive towards every woman and girl she had any power over, and is also extremely classist, ableist and racist. While the crimes of the GoT version were downplayed (at least before the season 6 finale), the book version, among other things, is guilty of the murders of many children including a baby, murdered her friend as a child, commits sexual assault, physically and emotionally abused her disabled little brother since his birth (she already abused him as a baby), is guilty of the murder of countless little people (just because she wanted to kill her brother), sends innocent women to be tortured and experimented on, sold a woman into slavery, orders a young boy to be whipped as a way to emotionally abuse her own son.tries to frame her teenage daughter-in-law and get her executed, and the list goes on. But Cersei is also a victim herself, and that's made very clear - of her father using her as a pawn, of her husband King Robert, who used to rape her while drunk and also is physically abusive. She feels generally constrained by her position as a woman. But her takeaways from that are not empathy or support for other women or for any marginalized and oppressed people, but the exact opposite. The complexity about her character is really more about the complexity of our response to her - her horrible behavior and personality makes us hate her, her victimization makes the reader feel pity and empathy, her delusions of grandeur are often hilarious, and there are some times when we may even feel on her side. One of those times is when, after she's done so many horrible things, she doesn't get punished for any of them, but instead gets publicly shamed and humiliated in a really gross and misogynistic way for the 'crime' of having sex outside marriage.

So, is hating Cersei misogynistic? In general, heck no! There are countless excellent reasons to hate her, and anyone who tries to argue that people hating Cersei is by itself misogyny is full of sh1t. But when some people focus not on any of her crimes but call her a wh0re or making fun of the rape and abuse she's suffered or cheer for her husband hitting her - that is misogyny.

It all depends on the type of criticism (or more often hate) - the kind of arguments, or slurs used, or when they are blatantly treated differently than male characters who do similar things. There are also certain things that fandoms are more likely to accuse of or hold female characters than the male characters and vice versa. When fans hate on male characters, you'll typically see them say the character is violent, abuser, rapist, murderer, or, a particularly popular accusation nowadays, "incel" (even if it makes no sense at all). Female characters, on the other hand, will mostly get criticized for their sexual behavior, who they have sex with/whether they have sex (they'll be either slut-shamed, or mocked as frigid women who have never had an orgasm), which male characters they reject, whether they are good mothers (male characters will get far less criticism for being neglectful or straight-up abusive fathers to their own children, while female characters' motherhood will get dissected endlessly), they will be blamed for the actions of men for the way they have supposedly infliuenced / manipulated them (whether or not there's any evidence of that) etc. while, on the other hand, actual violent crimes those or other women may commit might actually get ignored - because a woman committing violence is either unimaginable, funny or girlbossy. and that especially goes for things like rape, sexual abuse or domestic violence (because women are gentle helpless flowers who can never do such things, amirite). Female characters will also get criticized and hated and called a Mary Sue just for basically having the same tropes as male protagonists do all the time: being the Chosen One with some special destiny, being very competent in some area, influencing a lot of people. I've seen pretty much every female protagonst or supporting character who is described as being exceptional in any way as a Mary Sue - while male characters who are all those things to a much higher degree never get that.

So, there's a lot of sexism in fandoms. But there's also a lot of bad fath arguments and blanket accusation of misogyny as a convenient tool in fandom discourse, the same way that you'll inevitably get accused of being homophobic or biphobic jor racist just for not being a stan of certain characters or not shipping certain ships or preferring some ships to others. And again, there is real racism, homophobia, bisephobia, transphobia, misogyny in the fandoms, but fans will also try to use those accusations as a tool to win fandom debates and prove their side of the fandom is the morally right one, and the ones who disagree with them are bad.

I can't help but use the House of the Dragon fandom as an example, because that fandom is a huge toxic mess, with the fandom divided into Team Black and Team Green depending on which faction of the fictional dragonriding royal family fighting a civil war over the throne they like better....and the accusation of misogyny is especially popular. Quite a few of the Team Black stans are taking it to a whole new level by accusing everyone who isn't one of them of misogyny - because if you don't fully and 100% support the side that is trying to put Rhaenyra, a woman, on the throne you must be a misogynist. (Rhaenyra is the protagonist, but the story is very morally grey one without heroes or villains, and if you've read the source material you know just how morally grey it is, and that insisting that people have to root for either side is pretty silly... not to mention that it's all a fictional medieval monrachy, so why would you treat fiction as real life and also why would you then yell at people that they need to supprot hereditary monarchy in general?) The funniest thing is, however, the fact that many of those who are the loudest in those accusations are themselves making extremely misogynistic arguments against female characters on "Team Green", especially Alicent, the other main female character, who's the central charactre on Team Green. Rhaenyra gets some hate that is rooted in misogyny (such as slut-shaming or judging her more harshly than male kings or pretenders to the throne), but there are many more fans who idealize her and ignore or downplay her flaws and mistakes (in the show she's generally portrayed as someone to root for at this point in the story at least, but not as someone who's flawless - but most of the fandom hates nuance!), flattening her as a character in the process. But, since Team Black makes up around 80-90% of the fandom, it's Alicent who gets demonized, so it's much more common to find misogynistic takes about her (downplaying or mocking and making memes of her victimization and every instance of sexual abuse, rape and humiliation she's endured, arguing that she 'seduced' a grown man when she was 14 , trying to reduce her to an 'evil stepmother' trope, hyperfocusing on her as a "bad mother"- while the bad fathers, including her husband, don't get the same treatment, blaming her for the actions of the men around her...). The fandom also bullied both of the actresses who have played her, to the point that one left social media for a while, and the other has publicly spoken about the cyber bullying she was exposed to and how it affected her (and as a result of talking about it, got hated and attacked even more). At the same time, male characters who have done much, much worse and are actually murderers and/or rapists and abusers get whitewashed and adored if they are on the "right" team (even abuse against Rhaenyra gets downplayed if it's committed by a man from Team Black), and even the men on Team Green who have actually commited murder and/or rape are getting less hate than Alicent (and their crimes are often used to reflect on her).

And that's why the HotD fandom is a perfect example showing that many of the people in fandoms who use misogyny (or some other supposedly progressive issue) don't really care about it. It all just comes down to winning a fandom war.

Disney Month Night Crossing

For the 11th installment of Disney Month we shall look at a film based on a amazing true story Night Crossing

In this 1982 film two East German famlies, the Strelzyks and the Wetzels in 1979 attempt to escape to West Germany through a homemade hot air balloon

So I didnt know much about this film going in save for it starred John Hurt and it was based on a true story .....I really liked it

This is such an unusual film in the Disney pantheon ,being based on a real event and the film is based directly on the accounts of the two real famlies .The film doesnt sugar coat stuff .

The film is tense as hell.There is a rather horrifying scene early on where a teenage boy named Lukas is brutally shot by guards and left to bleed out after he attempts to escape East Germany .Its the darkest moment in the film and it reminds you of what the stakes are , if they make a wrong move, they are going to be shot and killed,so every scene has a sense of tension to it especially when they are buying the fabric to the baloon or talking to nosey neighbors

The film is very blunt ,it presents what happened in a very matter of fact way (I attribute this to wanting to be accurate as possible as well as having Delbert Mann,director of the best picture winner Marty and the 1979 version of All Quiet On The Western Front ) .Like there no epiphiny scene of Peter Strelzyk (Played by John Hurt) realizing "Hey lets use a baloon" ,its presented more as one scene him being like "We gotta get outta here " and next scene he is like "BAloon seems to be our best bet " .

The film does have those emotional moments,my favorites being Doris Strelzyk (Played by Jane Alexander ) cleaning the house she is going to abandon and another where Peter has a break down and his son Frank Strelzyk (played Doug McKeon ) uplifts him and reassures him he is not a failure

I have two issues,one is It drags sometimes and the other is while the cast is good (John Hurt ,Jane Alexander ,Beau Bridges and Gunter Meisner all doo great jobs ) ,I was distracted by the fact all the good characters are played by Americans and British actors while the villains are the only Germans .....in this film set in Germany .

1-What makes you believe was the appeal of that true story to the creatives of the Disney studio?

Well it is a tale about family and triumphting over impossible odds.It was also a Ron Miller era film and he was all about reaching formore mature topic not just family stuff .Fun fact the famlies picked Disney despite five other offers due to having fondness for Disney films,seeing them through illicit TV signals

2-Is it also a dark movie that you wouldn't imagine being the usual Disney product?

While overall an optimistic film there are dark elements and on one hand it feels very odd for Disney to make a film like this,but it was also made in the early 80's where under Ron Miller,Disney was experimenting with darker films ,though even then this film stands out as those films were still fantastical while this one is based in reality .

3- Thoughts on John Hurt's performance?

Its fun to see him as a heroic family man ,he has good chemistry with Jane Alexander and while not his most showy role ,I think he does a great job protraying both the fear but also the drive and determination

Overall I really liked this film ,its a solid film

its just so symbolic that the season ends with carmy stuck inside a freezer, alone yelling at everyone, frustrated, angry, asking desperatly for to get out at the same time that he pushes everyone away and all because he was too distracted by a million things to repair it.

and to make everything even more poignant, things go well without him, it all works, the people figured it out, they managed, they rose to the ocassion and one might take the more cynical reading from this that is "carmy is not needed, he is an obstacle for everyone else, he is his own greatest saboteur"

but the more heartwarming take, the beautiful take, the take i think this show is very much wanting to push is that, all this was accomplished thanks to carmy in the end, he is the one who pushed these people to be better, to grow, to become stronger, he helped build the bear into what it became, he nurtured it, with talent, patience, kindness, love and yeah a lot of yelling too, of course. this is carmy's greatest crowning achievement because beyond turning the beef into the bear, he turned these people into a team, into a family, they were that good, and that caable of handling the crisis because he helped them get there. and all he needs is to realize this, is to realize how good he has it, he just has to let himself accept it and enjoy it. and he cant.

it is no coincidence that this parallels exactly his mom's position in episode 6 where she was stuck in the kitchen unable to join the famly dinner and once again in the final chapter when she was unable to enter the restaurant, carmy is no different from her in that sense and him being stuck in the fridge is such a simple and yet so layered and so beautiful summary of all of this
