I seriously thought it was gonna be Queen's "you're my best friend" because it's such a fitting song for them and such a cheeky choice in that context, even more so given the previous madney karaoke -- it's a cheery and lovely song, and part of the lyrics are overtly about being best friends, but it's actually not a song about platonic friends. Undoubtedly the elegant choice if you're kind of keeping your options open/your subtext on hand and ongoing for potential future developments.

but sure lmao you can skip all the subtlety and just go for a completely overt love song referencing some of the imagery of the party directly. sorry i was tryna be so subtle about it jeez

Video here for those like me who had no clue about this song. Apparently it missed a lot of us in the UK, perhaps we were more into the New Romantics 😉

Released in 1980, the song was a decent hit in the US and a big hit in Australia. It became even more well-known after its use in Budweiser ads.

The singer on this track is the drummer of the band. It also has a great harmonica section.

Wait did people not get from the video that they confirmed that the song buddie was singing it was What I like about you by the romantics I love that song and now I know the vision why cut it out like and tbh just by them matching and Tommy being there it was so bizarre but also so refreshing they went from showing how similar Tommy and Eddie were and then they show how different they are at least one of them supports Buck blindly

I'm a bit behind in my inbox...so by now people should definitely know that 'What I Like About You' was the buddie karaoke song. It was confirmed by a somewhat irritated Tim. It is now the buddie anthem. (LOL I kid... their anthem will be the song playing during their first kiss)

Tommy and Eddie's differences being shown after all their similarities is so LOUD anon. It is deliberate and oh so delicious. And so are all the scenes of bucktommy being connected to Eddie to some degree. As is all the 3rd person framing with Buck, Tommy, and Eddie. (Screaming plot device oh so loud)

"Just Like Yesterday"

it started from the part of rwrb when Alex makes a list of what he loves about Henry, then I listened to "What I Like About You" by The Romantics, then I listened to Next To Normal, and this is the outcome.

(this is my first blush fic I've posted so any and all feedback is welcome, just don't be a jerk Abt it)

Mush knew that Blink had self esteem issues.

It was something that had come up multiple times throughout their friendship.

He thought Blink was the most beautiful thing in the universe, inside and out.

Though Mush knew he was probably biased due to the huge crush he had on him.

He has been trying for years to try and get Blink to see himself the way Mush does.

It's been hard, both because he doesn't want Blink to realize he is totally head over heels for him, and because Blink refuses any compliments.

He still couldn't fathom how someone so beautiful could think so poorly of himself. 

Even now, sitting on his best friend's bed, watching a shitty sitcom on his laptop, with the blond boy sleeping soundly beside him.

He has been contemplating for a while how to confess to Blink. If he even wants to confess, that is. Because on one hand, he really wants to know how he feels, also he doesn't know if he can keep this secret anymore. But on the other hand, he doesn't want to ruin his friendship with Blink.

After an hour and a half of contemplating, typing on his notes app, and admiring Blink (come on! How could he not!) He has a plan.

He wrote on his notes app a list of everything he loves about Blink, and plans on writing it out real fancy and giving it to him when he confesses. 

The list reads:

A list of what I like about you:

Your laugh

The way you run your hands through your hair when you're nervous

Your sapphire blue eye

How you get really excited when you talk about something you like

The way you wring your hands and crack your knuckles when you're bored

How caring you are

Your humor

Your amazing hugs (even though you don't give them often)

The way you always say what's on your mind

Your fashion sense

The way you always put up a tough guy persona, even though you're a big softy

The shade of red your cheeks go when you get any form of praise

How smart you are

Your beauty

As Mush was re-reading his list, making sure he included everything he wanted to, he felt Blink stir beside him.

"Hey, Kid, are you awake?"

“Yeah,” Blink responded, “sorry, i didn’t mean to fall asleep”

"Don't worry about it," Mush smiled softly down at his friend, "plus, you look cute when you're sleepy"

At that, Blink went a beautiful shade of scarlet, struggling to find the words to respond. Mush decided to change the subject before Blink had a chance to reject his compliment.

They talked about everything and nothing for hours, until Mush unfortunately had to go home.

Him and Blink parted with a hug goodbye before he started walking down the street back to his apartment.

As soon as Mush got home he grabbed a piece of paper, and in his finest writing, he wrote out his list, adding things, changing the words of some of them. And by the end, he had a list of 20 things he liked about Kid Blink.

The next day he found Blink sitting outside their school with his headphones on.

Mush sat beside him, but didnt say anything.

This was what they did every morning.

Blink listens to music every morning, then when Mush comes he gives him one of his earbuds. 

If Mush had to bet on what his friend was listening to, he would be a millionaire. 

Blink loves familiarity, so he only listens to show tunes, and sometimes Taylor Swift if he feels like switching it up. Because he still needs something he is familiar with, and Taylor Swift is great for that. 

This morning in particular, when Mush puts in the airpod Blink handed to him, he finds out he is listening to "Next To Normal".

About half way through "Light" they heard the bell.

Mush stood up with a groan, then gave Blink his hand and helped him up.

They then proceeded to hold hands all the way till they got to Mush's English class. (and no, Mush was not freaking out internally, definitely not!)

"Meet up at lunch?" Blink asked

"Of course," Mush replied with a smile, squeezing Blink's hand once more before walking into his class. 

Blink and Mush always had lunch together. 

Everyday they would sit together on the back field of their school, listening to Blink's music, and lying on the grass.

After school they walked to Blink's house, as usual, and because it was friday Mush was going to sleep over, as he always did.

Once they arrived at his house they both said their greetings to the Balletti parents, then headed up to Blink's room.

"So, wanna watch a film?" Blink asked, because that's what they usually did.

But Mush had a different plan.

"Sure! Just first I wanted to give you something.." Mush avoided making eye contact while talking, hoping Blink couldn't see the blush rising on his cheeks and the nervous glint in his eyes. 

"What's up?" Blink asked, looking at Mush with concern (turns out Mush wasn't as subtle as he thought)

"Just-" Mush pulled the list out of his pocket, "read this" 

He handed the folded up paper to Blink and then sat on his bed and looked down at his lap, too scared to see Blink's reaction. 

At the end of this list mush had written something to help get his point across:

Look, I really like you, like more than a friend, and if you don't feel the same way that's fine! I just needed you to know

After a minute, once Blink had read the note, he sat down on the bed before starting to talk.

"Mush, I like you too!"

Mush looked up so fast he almost got whiplash, eyes wide in surprise.

"W-what?" 

"I've felt this way about you for a long time," Blink admitted, his one uncovered eye full of adoration. 

"Why didn't you say anything?" Mush asked

"I didnt wanna ruin this" Blink used his hand to gesture between them "you are one of, if not the most important person in my life, and I didnt wanna lose you," 

"Aww, Blink" Mush cooed, "you could never lose me" Mush smiled at the blond haired boy beside him, "you're stuck with me, weather you like it or not"

Blink laughed 

"I can live with that" 

"Can I kiss you?" Mush couldn't help it, he had been waiting for this moment for god knows how long.

Instead of verbally answering him, Blink placed a tentative hand on Mush's cheek, and leaned in.

The kiss was slow and sweet, both boys melting into it completely. 

When they had finally pulled away Mush had his hands resting on Blink's waist while Blink had one hand on Mush's cheek, and the other on the back of his neck. 

"Wanna watch that film now?" Blink asked, breaking the comfortable silence between them.

"Of coarse" 

The two maneuvered on the bed so that they were both half leaning against the headboard, and put on one of their favourite films.

Maybe today wasn't so much like the others?

But that didn't matter, because it was still just Blink and Mush, together.
