Tommy’s (and Tubbo’s) Character /rp /dSMP

This is a bit of a rant so like be warned. I have nothing against any CCs mentioned in this, this is all roleplay, lighthearted, and just a bit of fun analysis. Mostly this is a ramble about how I see certain people analysing Tommy’s character on tumblr and twt, and why I think they’re wrong. This isn’t directed at anyone specific, just a trend I’ve been seeing that kinda irks me. I don’t dislike the fandom, just a few ‘takes’ have been really weird for me.

TW for everything below: analysing the effects of trauma, abuse, manipulation, gaslighting, and lack of therapy.

I’m not really liking how victim-blamey everyone is getting currently in the dSMP, both in fandom and canon. In canon with certain characters but especially in fan analysis posts and especially about Tommy and Tubbo. People legitimately celebrating that Tommy might start ‘apologising’ for his actions more and 'growing as a person' somehow don’t realise that hes been made this way through a tonne of negative reinforcement. abuse, and gaslighting. And people blaming Tubbo for actions he had no choice in, rather than the actions he did choose.

Currently, as I see it, Tommy is so scared that anyone would find a reason to be pissed off at him that his fighting spirit has been completely crushed. He was exiled and abused when he should have been helped and given an understanding figure to guide him and teach him how to deal with things non-violently. In everyone’s eyes, the problem was that Tommy was creating violence with no real reason, acting recklessly and commiting crimes. Tubbo, having made him a part of his cabinet, knew that this would only harm the country. So instead of talking to him reasonably, he got angry, put him on trial, and punished him with the logbook (humiliating him by making him report back to Fundy, which he obviously hated). Tommy’s actions were, of course, bad, but did he deserve everyone ganging up on him? No. Especially when Tubbo was supposed to be in his corner, helping him out like he always said he would (”It’s me and you vs Dream” etc). This is the first betrayal of trust from Tommy’s POV. He doesn’t understand what he did wrong to its full extent, and no one can explain it to him.

However, Tubbo was under a lot of pressure from Dream and George, and he’s a literal child President, so his ‘safety over friendship’ actions are understandable. I don’t believe Tubbo is solely to blame for anything he’s done in season 2, but it can’t all be excused. If you are to blame Tommy for his recklessness, you have to blame Tubbo, at least partially, for his disregard for Tommy’s feelings and mental state. There were other ways to go about the entire thing, including the trial, which was just horrible to watch, and agreeing to give Dream the disc, something Tommy gave him in pure confidence that it would be safe with Tubbo. Yikes moment.

At that time, Tubbo knew a lot of things about Tommy. In fact, he probably knew the most about Tommy out of anyone on the server. He knew the discs were incredibly important and a comfort item for Tommy. He knew Tommy had trauma from being exiled in the past. He knew Tommy was abused, or at least manipulated by Wilbur, in addition to growing up in war. Wilbur once told Tommy to stop being reckless, and Tommy listened, changing his attitude because he looked up to Wilbur so much. Then Wilbur said ‘let’s be the bad guys’ and stopped trying to mentor Tommy. There’s a conflict here, because Tommy was told by Wilbur that he wasn’t good enough to be President (links to the idea of ‘not being strong enough’) but he knows that Wilbur was a bad person. But Tommy is never given the chance to reconsile his feelings surrounding Wilbur, both because of Ghostbur and because of the conflict he starts with George. So he is harbouring a mixture of emotions about his mentor and brother, not understanding how to untangle the ‘real Tommy’ from the manipulated boy he became.

What was going through his head when he stole from George and griefed him? Perhaps the thought that he needed to show he was still the same old Tommy. Maybe the need to ‘prove himself’ as a strong person? It could have just been an outlet for his trauma. He’s grown up in a world where everyone is either a friend or an enemy. George isn’t a friend. How was he supposed to know that hurting him was bad?

Tubbo was pressured into the actions he took against Tommy, but he was pressured far too easily. There is no moment where Tubbo turns to Tommy and makes sure he’s okay, he views him as ‘selfish’ and overdramatic, and sees his actions that way. This makes sense from Tubbo’s POV, he’s struggling to be President in ways that Wilbur *knew* he would, but in Tommy’s eyes this is the worst betrayal he’s ever known. The moment Tubbo (rightfully, but poorly executed) defies Tommy’s plan to hire Technoblade (ahem, seeing Techno as a weapon again) and exiles Tommy is the moment their friendship shatters. They’re two people who don’t understand each other anymore. Two people who are technically in the right, but only hurt each other.

What Tommy needed was a therapist, instead he had Dream, who put out the fire of rebellion that made him so strong, and Techno, who was trying to help but doing it in the wrong way.

People see tommy's change post-exile as a good thing because he's not as rebellious anymore and he’s thinking things through a lot before he does them, but they will soon realise that his rebellion was one of his best traits and the fact that no one saw it as anything but a problem really shows. He now second-guesses himself so much and is so scared of being wrong that everything seems too difficult and too dangerous. Every trait can have a positive and negative side. Tommy's defiant nature would have made him the perfect negotiator with a little practise. In fact, he had plenty of good ideas before he was exiled (using spirit against Dream, though it didnt work in the end, for example). The negative side of this was recklessness and the desire to cause problems on purpose, but what he needed was a friend (looking at you Tubbo) who understood that hes been through several wars, was manipulated by Wilbur, and hasnt known a time of peace where everyone who wasnt on his side was out to kill him. Now that ‘fight’ is gone he's just become easier to manipulate.

He may be getting better (see: telling Dream to go fuck himself) but there hasn't been any long-term growth because he was never told what kind of rebellion was good and what was bad. He was just told it was all bad. By Dream (and by Tubbo). Who he doesn't trust. So he's just going to revert back to his old ways because no one told him what was bad in a way that didn't make him feel like everyone was against him. Dream is the enemy (though Tommy’s feelings towards him are complicated, they make his brain go all ‘flippy floppy’) and Dream told him that rebellion was bad, so rebellion must be good always, right?

And then there's Techno. Techno did nothing wrong except for when he did. Techno is 100% right except for when he isn’t. He doesn't understand Tommy because Tommy was never fully open about what Dream had done and how it affected him. That's not Tommys fault though, because who the fuck openly talks about their trauma? So neither of them are to blame for pretty much anything up until the confrontation at the community house.

However, Techno's methods and ideology were not what Tommy needed. He was thrown from one extreme to another over and over again, from complete subservience to total rebellion. Neither of these inforce good attitudes in Tommy. One, as stated before, makes it so that he will regain his negative traits again. The other reinforces those violent traits as good, just like Wilbur did. The only difference is that Techno had good intentions, he wasnt trying to use Tommy, which is why he feels so used when Tommy 'betrays' him (Techno doesnt realise that he himself betrayed Tommy by teaming with Dream, he sees it more as a transaction than a personal thing). Techno feels so hurt by Tommy ‘viewing him as a weapon’ that he goes on with his no-mercy attack, completely dropping Tommy at his lowest point.

Tommy says he doesn't want to be like everyone he's hated. In fact, he say's he is 'worse' than all the villains. This is very obviously untrue, though he was clearly going down a dangerous path with Techno's influence (see: bullying Fundy, spawning wither, kidnapping Connor, and saying that the discs are more important than Tubbo, more on that later). He's not a villain but who exactly has said he's not a villain. Dream? Techno? Neither of them can be trusted in his eyes. They say he's a good guy, Wilbur wanted to be the bad guy, who's right? He doesn't know. He has a crisis of morality.

And? Some people want to point at that and say 'aha! Character development! He's finally realising his actions have a negative affect on others!' OH GOD NO??? He's a *child* who thinks that he is worse than his abuser. Does that sound like positive character growth to you?

Lastly, the discs. We know theyre a comfort item blahblahblah. He hates himself for valuing them more than he values Tubbo. He's literally innocent in this. He’s been horribly manipulated by Dream to believe that the discs are worth anything. Theyre really not worth anything if they are being used as tools rather than, yknow, discs. My poor boy. He doesnt trust people, so what can he trust? The discs. But then he says it out loud and realises he misses Tubbo and he wants to be with his best friend again and and and WAHHHH. This also isnt really character growth its just fucking sad leave me alone.

Anyways what the fuck guys. @ Niki and Jack what the fuck. Yeah we get it it’s miscommunication but wtf. Kinda worried that the actual lore will make Niki and Jack’s hatred of Tommy justified in some way and take on a big victim-blamey vibe, but I’m hoping that everyone is smart enough to not do that. I cannot praise Tommy enough for how he’s portrayed his character. I’m currently hoping that he himself understands the true complexity of it all. I’m sure he does.

Mostly though im actually pissed off at all the people praising tommy's character for 'maturing' when hes literally just got trauma. Nice one, tumblr and twt users. Thanks. Great job. He hasnt 'learnt his lesson', he’s traumatised. What the fuck.

[CC: tried to talk to a innkeeper because i have a net worth of -5 kwama eggs and cant even afford a pillow, so i tried to persuade her into pitying those below the poverty line but i accidentally clicked spacebar and picked up some random grimy folded cloth thats been collecting mold underneath the bar for 80 years and within 0.9 nanoseconds a guard had risen out of the floor and basically demanded me to pay my taxes (despite not having ownership of anything since cauis's package, yes I sold that for 0 dollars out of spite) or go to the meat locker for an epoch. I naturally chose the tax evasion option because once again a diseased scrib has more economic potential than me, yet despite my obvious financial shortcomings, the crime of picking up a manure stained cloth cloth in a public space has the punishment of the death penalty on the spot, no judge, no jury, just execution. Before he could hit me and basically banish me to oblivion (due to my negative armor class because I have every disease created in the game because I decided it was a good idea to see how Hla Oad is this time of year, do not go there it is the fecal matter of the hlaalu house and is run by hillbillies who decided it was a good idea to make a crap fishing village next to 8 deadric ruins with about 2 guards to protect their worthless operation) before he could hit me however I had managed to outsmart every single being in that inn by performing the complex task of walking through a door. Now that I had basically exiled everyone in there for as long as I wanted, the only problem was the 69 guards with armor made out of moldy cheese beelining to my exact location. I did the natural thing and went the opposite way up some cliff but in a dead sprint I think I may rival a crippled 80 year old woman in her deathbed at top speed. By the time I reached the mountain I spammed E, since you know the saying, "when in doubt, spam tf out of e". Naturally I made it up the mountain despite it being vertical and every guard's reaction was not to follow me the way I came or find the next best path but to hightail it tf out of here since obviously one who is on a slightly raised platform now has the combat equivalence to that of a daedric prince, no matter if they look like they were born from beef jerky. Before I could revel in my triumph (or notice my bounty has risen by a quadrillion for stealing a cloth and valuing my life from immediate execution) a cliff racer had spawned 3 inches from my forehead and immediately began to assault me. I managed to move out of the way but instead of not getting hit my body decided to have a convulsion on the spot and I fall to the floor like a life alert commercial (Since I had spammed E to escape the guards, my fatigue, which has a max of 4 points, had gone to -5e57) Luckily, before I could get hit again and my health, which is about 0.0000000001 at this point, I manage to use a scroll i had found while enjoying the beginning of the game's scenery and to reward me for having positive thoughts the game decided to murder a man in front of me by dropping him from the heavens. But he had scrolls that could launch me like inflation rates in germany during the 1930;s, so naturally I used them during the cliff racer attack. I jumped and began to ascend into the heavens, suddenly I did not feel bad about my hard situation in life anymore, my economic shortcomings were irrelevant, my weak and frail body with the agility and intelligence that only rivals that of a cinder block was of no more matter to me. So what if I cannot understand basic reading skills and I put all my skills into spear and I had not found a single spear yet despite this being my 629th day in the game and having made a grand total of 1.2 gold, all of which came from fargoths corpse after I booby trapped his drug stash (it was in some rotting log because of his crippling moon sugar addiction) with a fireball from hell that killed everyone in a 4 city radius. It was all of no more matter, I flew, and for the first time, I was free, free of my shackles of constant endangerment and permanent psychological trauma, the ground before me disappeared into a white ether and I was free from it all. Then the air turned red, I was confused, thinking I had entered another level of the atmosphere, but then the ground reappeared. What was a small island had turned into a jagged red mountain straight from satan's summer home retreat. There was not much I could do since I was barreling straight down the throat of the volcano into a lava ocean at the speed of light and only had the chance to see some man with nothing but a loincloth and a golden mask teabagging the corpse of some random dark elf, probably of no importance, but it mattered not, as I was now 80000 different pieces floating in a burning hellscape forever attoning for my sin of wanting to have a fun time playing a video game. all in all good game would recommend 10/10]

So. Let’s talk about Veronica Mars. *deeeeeeeep sigh*

Ok, friends. It’s been a goddamn whirlwind for me. I actually went to the Veronica Mars panel at Comic Con, which I thought was a highlight at the time. They screened the first episode before the panel, and I was all ready to report back to you all that it was real good and to get excited for the new season, but then Hulu had to go and drop the whole damn series during the CC panel, which was a STUPID thing to do (or, at the very least, an extremely stupid thing to announce to the panel at Comic Con - the exact people who would not be able to watch it until after Comic Con, putting them at risk for some really big fucking spoilers. It’s genuinely surprising to me how little the people who are in charge think about these things. If you want to do a surprise drop (which, why, but whatever), sure, go and do it, but definitely don’t announce it to a room full of people who can’t enjoy it and expect them to be excited??). But regardless. That was just a wtf moment. I was still filled with enthusiasm and excitement and happiness that this show was back and seemed to be in good form.

Oy.

Cut to Tuesday morning. I got back from Comic Con on Sunday night, and life goes on, so of course I hadn’t watched 8 hours of TV by Tuesday at 7AM. Which is precisely when my dear friend, whom I adore, but who is apparently an idiot, texted me about how terrible that VM ending was and how upset she was. Now, because I’m a good friend and I know what she likes and we’ve discussed VM at length, it took me all of four seconds to know the gist of what happens in the end. I didn’t know the how or why, but I certainly knew the what. Cue fun spikes of anxiety and random bursts of rage, because what the fuck. Truly, what the fuck. But I placed my certainty at 99% and hopelessly clung to the 1% chance that I was wrong, knowing full well that I wasn’t. This obviously completely stymied any excitement I had for the show, and I dragged my heels for a full month before finally finishing the goddamn show just to get it over with. And now we’re here.

I’ve had a month to ready myself for what I knew was coming. It was both a blessing and a curse, since while it pretty thoroughly ruined my good time, it also meant that I wasn’t totally blindsided by that ending. And man, I would have been blindsided, because there was Z E R O reason for that. None. And now I’ve read all the articles in which Rob Thomas tries to explain his reasons, and they’re all nonsense. Absolute idiocy. All I see is a guy who always, always resented the fans for loving a character he didn’t want us to, who tried and tried to redirect us to one of his preferred creations without success, and just when I thought he’d finally accepted defeat, he pulls the most nonsensical of fuckery just to finally win the battle. Fuck you, RT, forever and always. I can’t fucking believe that I allowed myself to think you’d finally seen the light. What a ridiculous fool I was for giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Since I knew what was coming, I could look for the signs all throughout the season. So I searched for foreshadowing, or at least a narrative through-line. And let me tell you: there isn’t one. The season finally, rightfully seems to address Veronica’s deep-set trauma and trust issues but treats them like a problem and not a secret superpower, and it seemed like the show might expect Veronica to grow up along with the viewers who’ve aged 15 years since the first season? I was excited to finally have Veronica be the problem in a relationship, frankly. It was hinted at with Piz, but glossed over because there was only so much time in the movie, but it was realistic for her to have some trouble adjusting to a long-term, committed relationship, and I was excited to see that journey! I thought it was such an interesting path to go down, watching Veronica grapple with what she wants (or maybe just thinks she wants) vs. what she’s always known, or thought she knows. Lots of stuff there! Good stuff! And you get all the way to the end, when she’s finally decided to try. It isn’t fixed, it isn’t perfectly, she’s definitely got a long way to go, but she’s taken a few tentative steps into an uncertain future. And all of a sudden, quite literally, boom. It’s all gone.

Listen. I was never going to be a fan of getting rid of Logan. However they chose to do it, it would always feel wrong. I have never trusted Rob Thomas to handle Logan well, because he’s always had this undercurrent of anger in every interview I’ve read, this frustration that people love and respond to Logan when he wanted them to love Duncan! Then Piz! Then anyone else! His creations took on a life of their own, and RT hated it. RT was one of the ultimate examples of writers/show runners who were simply watching a completely different show than the rest of us. I could never understand how he wrote such interesting stuff for Logan but didn’t want us to root for him. It never made any sense. But I didn’t think he would sabotage his own show this thoroughly.

Because here’s the thing: I was never going to like him getting rid of Logan, but I could have understood it. I could have gone along with it if it had been done right. Frankly, the way it was building, it wouldn’t have been a surprise, nor would it even have been a bad choice, to have Logan break up with Veronica at the end of the season. And if RT couldn’t handle Veronica not being the aggressor, fine, make Veronica do it. She decides she isn’t willing to put in the work to change that Logan needs from her, and she ends it. Fine. Could work, at least for a few seasons. Let her deal with the loss, knowing it was something she chose, and see how it affects her priorities as she continues on. Certainly could be interesting!

You know what isn’t interesting? This. This is the only - the ONLY - plotline that’s a watered down repeat of a previous story. Veronica Mars, traumatized and hardened by the shocking loss of someone close to her? Quite literally, been there, done that. I know RT has been trying to recapture the magic of season one for every season and iteration since, but just repeating the storyline? Really, really missing the mark. There isn’t anything new that can be added to this. We’ve done this. This will only ever be a pale imitation, a tacked-on sequel hitting the same beats with less force. Lilly was a fantastic inciting incident that yielded a tight, well-thought-out season arc. But why would we want to start over 15 years later? What’s to be gained from this? Literally ANY other ending would have yielded multiple storytelling options, branching out with so many possibilities on where the characters could go. This is the only one that simply slams doors shut.

The few supporters of this ending I’ve seen around the interwebs keep saying things like “this show wouldn’t work if Veronica was happy!” Hell, Rob Thomas is saying the same thing. And to that idiocy, I can only say 1. of course it would, if you write it well, dumbass, and 2. if you think Veronica getting married immediately = happiness, well, what the hell show were you watching? The marriage, much as it could represent a step forward, was still VERY CLEARLY a huge, impulsive jump that was more a reaction than a measured decision. And that was something I was looking forward to seeing. Fresh off of a near-death experience and a renewed assurance of her love for Logan, Veronica marries him thinking that’s the end of their troubles, only to realize that it’s just another complication. Now Veronica has to deal with the new experience of having no quick exit strategy. All the problems they had throughout the season still exist, thinly covered by the veil of newlywed bliss, and she has to reconcile her happiness with her frustration and uncertainty. Logan still disappears at the drop of a hat because of his job. She still puts herself in danger for the case and uses loved ones and acquaintances alike to her full advantage. They hide things from each other. They love fiercely, they trust the other with their own lives but can’t trust each other to take care of themselves. Doesn’t this sound like a complicated, tumultuous relationship full of narrative possibilities?

Well, forget it, because why break new ground when you could retread old storylines? Yeah, that’s what we all want. Great job, RT. So smart.

Something that keeps bothering me is that if RT didn’t want Logan around as the happy husband at home but didn’t want to write more relationship drama between them? He already had the perfect excuse to ship Logan off for entire seasons at a time. Look, Logan’s deployed, oh no, he can’t even skype, he’s undercover! Cool, problem solved. No more Logan, but in a way that still maintains possibilities for the future should we want them. Ideal. Again, options. All you want are places for your narrative to go. Multiple roads it could take so it doesn’t become predictable.

This is predictable. This is boring. This is trite. Our heroes, struck down in their highest moment of happiness. Holy fuck, it’s dull. It doesn’t feel edgy. It feels derivative, a tired rehash of a narrative structure that should have gone out of vogue ten years ago. The whole thing just exhausts me at this point.

And I’ve read Rob Thomas’s justification for why he did it. They’re all flimsy, but if he wants to go do a Sherlock-style, Ms. Marple mystery series, flitting in and out as he pleases, fine. It won’t be the worst show in the world. Veronica’s still a fun and interesting character, and I’ll always enjoy watching her. But removing her from Neptune, and more importantly, removing her from all of her meaningful relationships, takes away what made this show special. The new version RT is pitching could be fun enough. But it’ll still be just one in a long, long line of mystery shows that don’t have much claim to my emotional investment. I might watch, but I’ll forget about it the second it’s over. It certainly won’t be the kind of show with a fanbase that will still be interested in watching more 15 years from now. Rob Thomas won’t be getting one of those again.

So yeah, that’s that. I have much more to say, but really I just wanted to get this rant out so I can put it all behind me. I learned long ago that I can’t trust shows and showrunners, and it’s a lesson I learned partly, if significantly, from Rob Thomas. I suppose it’s on me for letting my guard down, but I guess my hope got grandfathered in from an age when I didn’t immediately mistrust the things that were supposed to make me happy. I’ll know better next time.

1/? Hiii!! Okay so I have like a big problem. I’ll start it from the beginning. A few months ago I visited my cousin and we had a party. There was a guy at the party and I’ll call him JJ. So JJ’s pretty cute and sweet and kinda dumb. Big dumb white boys are a weakness🤦🏽‍♀️ anyway, he was there with his gf but he was still checking me out. So whatever I move in with my cousin and we have a party every weekend. JJ is there every weekend. But he’s with his gf -⚡️

(Continued) But then this one time his gf, I’ll call her CC, wasn’t there. And he was more social. He seemed like he was more social when she wasn’t there with him. I decided to finally make my move. Bc we’d both been eyeing each other for awhile. We were both drunk. I rubbed his thigh a little bit, mindlessly. He did the same to me, soon enough, he brought my hand up to touch his bulge. He was hard omg. I rubbed him a little bit and I went inside not too long after. He followed me.

We made out once we got inside. He was like ‘you drive me so crazy, girl’ like he made me so wet🥺 we groped each other n stuff. He told me, while we were listening to music outside, that he missed his girl. He was like ‘y’know that girl I always come over here with?’ And I was like ‘yeah, I know CC, hun’ but he told me how he missed her n stuff. Bc she didn’t wanna be there if he was gonna be there, that’s what she told us. She treats him like shit.

She’s such a bitch to him and he just takes it. Like a puppy :( I really like him. Okay and like about a few weeks before I met him, he got his leg ran over by a forklift at work. So he was due to get a settlement for over 300,000 this month right? Now, bc of that, he was gonna sell us his car for only 500 bucks since he wanted to get a dope ass truck. So, CC told my cousin she was only gonna be staying with him for the money. And I was like broo!!! Wtf!!! I could treat him better!!

So that night where we both made a move. There ended up being a lot of drama unfortunately. At one point I went into the bathroom to cry and when I got out he was standing there waiting for me. He asked me what was wrong and pulled me in for a hug. He let me cry into his chest. I told him that it was just a really fucked up situation and I didn’t know how to deal. And then later, I made myself throw up bc I knew I needed to. So I threw up over the rail of the porch. He held my hair.

So I ended up getting his number, right? We texted a little that night. I slept in my room and he slept in the living room as usual. When I woke up he was already gone. I texted him about it and he said he just had things to do. But he said he’d be back next weekend. I was excited. But he didn’t come. And then he promised me he’d be there the next weekend. He wasn’t. I was getting kinda tired of his shit so I got high and I told him flat out I’m high as shit so I’m gonna be really honest.

So I asked him if I was a rebound from CC. He took awhile to type but ended up saying no. I thought it was a lil weird but I let it fly, I asked him why he chose that night of all the times we drank together to make a move. He told me we would talk on Friday. I said okay. I was happy that he pulled up with that trailer so that meant CC wasn’t with him. But once he got out and stuff, my cousin gave him the money and he asked if he could stay a little while. Of course she said yeah and he went inside to grab a beer. I was so excited bc that meant if he was drinking, he’d probably stay the night. He didn’t even acknowledge my existence tho. Like, he maybe glanced at me. I know it was because my dad was there and he was scared of him tbh but it still sucked.

And then I saw his lockscreen. It was of him and CC. Again, that kinda stung. We still flirted later on but he left pretty soon unfortunately. I talked to my mom about it and she tells me that maybe he really does like CC. I told her that if he did he wouldn’t continue to make passes at me. She told me that maybe he does it bc they have an open relationship. Even tho we both know she only says that so she can fuck whoever she wants. Bc she doesn’t actually care about him. Any advice?

So I honestly think it’s best to try and distance yourself from him and that whole situation and move on as best you can cause he’s throwing you for a loop in an emotional rollercoaster and as much as you’d love to probably be there for him and show him how good you can treat him, ultimately he’s in a dysfunctional relationship with this girl and you don’t wanna be in that mess.

For him to be making out with you and stuff while talking about missing her it just feels like he’s trying to get what’s he lacking in his relationship with her, with you. And when he stopped following through with things and ignoring your presence I think he probably feels guilty for dragging you into the situation.

It sucks that she treats him that way and what she said about only being with him for the money he’s about to get man that’s trash but yeah he needs to leave that relationship and take some time to heal within himself cause seeking what he’s missing from you or anyone else and stuff is only gonna end up hurting more people.

It’s great that he was sweet to you but he’s got some real deep issues it seems surrounding CC and I think he’s gotta work that out before he can be in a relationship with you or anything like that.

So I would kinda cut ties, maybe still be there as a friend if that’s possible but definitely nothing more than that till she’s either out of the picture and he’s not gonna be ignoring you and not following through on talking to you and keeping promises or he stays with her.

Maybe if you want you could talk to him about leaving her cause that relationship is def NOT a healthy one and it would be for the best if he left. Try and see where he stands with her and with you too like hey do you actually want me or what is going on cause he said no to you being a rebound but also the part you mentioned about him taking awhile to type that out kinda hints that he’s feeling something else. Ultimately he’s gotta open up to you about everything so you get the truth.

I hope this helps you a bit!! 💕 that’s a tough situation but communication is really key in so many things so I hope he’s willing to talk about this with you and you get some answers and can decide what to do next. And here is the helm of a new Open Source OC of mine, Mr Mash

This man appears as a six-armed purple-skinned biker with a barred helmet akin to the one above, in rough-cut but weirdly elaborate clothes of red and gold.

He travels from city to city, blocking paths for the purposes of challenging strong individuals to fights, with the wager being their weapons. He appears to be searching for a specific one, known only as the “White Weapon,”

Possibly linked to the legendary Exaclibur but definitely the “good” twin to the infamous “Black Blade” that travels the multiverse. Of course, while the blades are locked in an endless, eternal struggle.

But, his reasons for seeking the Weapon have absolutely nothing to do with that conflict, often leading to him come crashing into stories he has nothing to do with as he fruitlessly quests.

He is also followed by his “mount,” Aniki. Varying in form but usually some sort of rideable; wheeled techno-organic monster, who he considers a friend. It changes forms across the Multiverse and often gets separated in the midst of “jumps” to the point where Mash has to look for them; often seeking help from the very people he fights right after.

His personality is very warm; a fierce fighter with a belligerent; boasting; almost comical attitude but when bested he is relatively genial, and if one manages to befriend him, he is loyal to a fault.

He also has many; may weapons he stories in some unknown place, but he has two frequent sets he tends to use as his “baseline,” one of melee weapons and one of firearms.

The melee assortment includes:

Brightsabre- A simple cyllinder able to extend into a bright yellow-white “blade” of energy, he says this is a rare variety; but more likely it is one of the mass-produced early versions of such. It still chews through night any material and can reflect bullets; energy weapons and sometimes even magic.

Photon Pak- A backpack with a nozzle attached; this looping striped beam is mainly considered “melee” by virtue of its bucking nature and ability to reel in spiritual matter that makes it akin to a grappling lasso. It still hurts like a motherfucker if you touch it though. On a lighter note, it is able to produce amazing moving images if wielded with the right amount of skill (And psionics), which Mash has used for the purposes of street laser-light shows when he’s needed a quick buck.

Nightmare Claw- A glove with huge knived talons on its appendages, this weapon once belonged to a serial-killer turned nightmarish demon, from who Mash stole a copy while dreaming (Ironically at least leading to one temporary defeat of the being). It is able to morph in length and cutting ability, but its real draw is the ability to cut through space to create holes to jump through. Though, often Mash gets lost through these holes and ends up taking a minute to find his way back to the battlefield.

Liberty Shield- A red-white-and-blue-striped shield made as the second-closest thing to the most powerful shield in the multiverse, this shield is not only able to deflect nigh any force applied, but also functions as a bashing and ricocheting discus weapon. Though, Mash is not quite as skilled with throwing the weapon as its original owner; so he often ends up having to retrieve it.

Abnormal Chainsaw- This appears to be a worn variant of any normal; industrial chainsaw; except for the fact that it never seems to get any more worn; and the fact that it never clogs; as it chops through anything it touches with supernatural swiftness

PK Bat- A golden-colored shiny metal baseball bat with a strange translucent aura around it, this weapon is able to produce wide waves of fire; random blasts of lightning and concentrated blasts of frost from its tip due to having been once used by a master psionicist. Though, some have said his ability to use this may indicate latent psionic powers; along with many other telltale signs say scholars.

The Gun-Based Assortment Includes

BFG 6660- An enormous gun like nothing so much as a huge satanic mailbox, this weapon seemingly was enchanted by some forces of hell after it was accidentally given to demonic forces, shooting huge waves of unholy plasma that linger long after the initial blast.

Ol' Painful- An ordinary chain gun, albeit the size of something that should be mounted on a helicopter with nigh-unlimited ammo. Very likely engineered by a gunsmith while on a drunken bender one night; in a way not even he could replicate.

Judgement OMA- A weapon able to fire normal, incendiary, explosive, homing, taser, gas, and holy bullets on different settings, this is a weapon from an authoritarian police force in a world where things have gone very; very wrong. Mr Mash’s copy happens to have a “Random” setting, custom made for him, because “It’s more fun this way”

Shumacher Special- Created by a deranged cryonicist upon the loss of his wife, this weapon is able to fire devastating blasts of frost; with the unintended capacity for cryonic preservation, able to preserve the lives of those frozen in critic suspension for aeons with only a quick warm-up needed to revive them. It is also called the “Mr Nipples” by some, though never in front of Mash’s face.

Martian Heater- Something like a retro-ray-gun that shoots devastating waves of heat and causes most things it touches to combust or melt, it’s big enough that it looks like it should be attached to some invading tripod-machine. And, in fact, that is very much where Mash wrenched it off of, having driven into a timeline while an alien invasion was going on and driving Aniki into one of the war machine’s legs because he thought it might help. It did, but not how he thought…

Valkyre Blossom- Akin to a tiny spaceship with a trigger attached, it has a very long windup and cool down time, but when pressed it unleashes a flower-shaped spray (Hence the name) of beam-bolts and missiles; creating a massive cone of projectile death. Nobody knows where he got it, not even Mr Mash, though rumors include a shrink ray or the last “taxidermied” remnants of an attempt at making starships that could reproduce gone hideously wrong,

The WTF Assortment Includes

Bullet Sword- A sword made of the lead of thousands of spent bullets, then enchanted with necromancy and healing magic to give them eternally the kinetic energy they had when they were fired while still in flight. It looks akin to a sword made of glowing spheres, able to fire off those spheres in a boomeranging “loop” and to absorb bullets to increase its power

Neon Blaster- Resembling nothing so much as an incredibly elaborate “Eat At Joes” sign, and in fact most likely made by one, this releases a gas as its primary charge, which is not neon but which may in fact be sentient given its tendency to form letters and phrases as it spreads. Then, the secondary charge activates the gas, lighting it up to form magical glyphs resembling neon signs; able to exhibit many; many effects. Mash tends tp be pretty “hands off” on what spells he wants the gas to form, though it doesn’t help that he doesn’t know how to use the settings that control such things on the weapon, but the gas seems to have a pretty good idea of what is useful in that situation.

The Harryhausen- This weapon consists of three seemingly organic tendriil-like arms and a singular tendril-like neck with a reptilian; muttonchopped face, able to move of their own volition and drain blood from their grappled enemies as sustenance, While powerful in its own right, its real draw is the ability of the main head to cast spells that heal and hasten its owner; though it seemingly can only do this after it has drawn a bit of blood first.

Shock-Rocker- An enormous electric guitar with its own built in “speaker” resembling electrical apparatti such as Jacob’s ladders and tesla coils, this machine produces deadly electrical waves even as it produces beautiful musical tones. It usually plays tunes of a classic-hard-rock style, given that is Mr Mash’s preferences.

Engine Fist- Essentially the entire front half of a futuristic muscle car turned into a brass-knuckled gauntlet, this mechanism’s engine has been modified to produce the maximum possible sheer force with every punch. Though, the time gap between one punch and the next is usually pretty wide; given it is possible to break one’s arm from the sheer force if it us used too frequently within a short stretch of time.

Frankenstein- A hodgepodge of different parts from many different broken legendary weapons; from when Mash tried to create a “Magnum Opus” of gun smithery, this machine’s parts are wildly incongruous in appearance; including a slot-machine-style roller reel and a tank of slime. The slime seems to be its self-replenishing “ammunition” supply and, appropriately enough, the reel always spins whenever the machine is fired. It launches a random effect with each time; with even Mash unsure they’ve seen all its effects. Though, 90% of the time the effect usually helps Mash more than the enemy, so he considers it effective enough.

The process of dimensional travel sometimes alters Mr Mash from his original appearance; to different species or; more often; to different genders; to the point where in some corners he is known as “Miss Mash;” though all variants tend to share the basic garb and appearance with the original; usually attractive for what they are but with an emphasis on height; muscularity and general devil-may-care-ness in their looks.

They consider themselves technically genderfluid due to this, preferring to be referred to by the typical pronouns of their current form, and they are attracted to all genders (Though they’re a bit of a dorky cassanova when it comes to wooing; no matter what body they are in). He seems to go by a different name across other parts of the multiverse, but he is loath to say what it is...

Looking at the Saga Anthology of Climate Fiction

Introduction:

TL;DR: We think it’s not gonna happen to us. We thought wrong. Here’s our attempt at making fiction make things seem more real. Humanize the threat.

Key Quotes and what’s up:

TL;DR: Lust for techno-fix—instant gratification, instant solution. Oh, how fucking human. We keep avoiding the real problem and thinking oh yeah we’ll just go to Mars or something sci-fi like that. Multiple fantasies exists; there are stories that warn you about the dangers of climate change and then there are those that will defo tell you it isn’t real.

Sacrifices, fights, treason, all that BS, all about the Central Arizona Project. These people were getting ready to go to war, an army against the apocalypse—the end of the world, without water, a basic necessity.

TL;DR: Climate change’s effect on the local fauna (ft. migration, tourism, and the rich getting everything at the expense of the poor, of the marginalize who suffer the most even though they didn’t do as much damage as the rich people did). God Complex, manicured nature, “the great outdoors” and by doing our job, we pat ourselves in the back and say, well done.
