Been encountering a lot of pronouns in email signatures and man I kind of wish people were putting titles in there instead (or in addition to pronouns), since titles can be ambiguous even in the case of cis people and it's more immediately relevant when writing emails

1) moon/xiao yueqing has teleportation-based powers but because everyone wants her and nice to stick together, her teleportation leads back to nice which was INSANE to me

2) lin ling is becoming increasingly more worried about being clean and perfect which is a side effect of nice's image of perfection which is indicating that this whole trust system can have mental effects??? and that's horrifying to me???

What if the Time Gears had actually threatening guardians.

I present to you, the Iterator oc number two, the child that refused to be named, now having many, hah! _(:3 」∠)_

While I adore the true name I finally scrambled for him, and couldn't resist disclosing it, for lore reasons it'd be best to address him with his title;

Sentinel Of The Unforgiven, [SOTU] or just The Sentinel.

This one's novel is even longer, so for those who don't have the patience, the trivia board on the ref is a pretty good TLDR! ^^);

This guy needs to have quite a few more clarifications made first, as I'm stepping quite further away from the canon here, and even more into fanfiction/AU territory.

Some background;

[We're talking about one and the same group Three Signals (TS) is included in. They are neighbours of Sliver Of Straw, far away from in-game locations.]

- This group exists in a very mountainous area, and from the very beginning, the Benefactors decided it's more efficient to use their already existing underground tunnels (from drilling for Void Fluid) as a transportation modus; turned into an underground train system for Iterator construction process. That system runs quite far into the group, connecting Iterators like roots, with SOTU at the near center (first one built in the area).

- Due to some harsh weather conditions and poor decisions the city was equipped with "wind-breaking" walls, giving a quite claustrophobic effect. Citizens began feeling discomfort there even before resource problems.

- Once the resource demand problem became eminent, the citizens expressed lack of care or attachment to the city and/or the Iterator. It was agreed upon to simply use the underground trains to relocate to now already standing, various newer cities.

- The justice system is... blurry at best. This post is getting too long already so I'll fully explain it another time; for now it's only important to know SOTU is not the one judging the criminals, he merely holds them up to the verdict.

- The notion of "a stay in SOTU's city feels like a punishment in itself" became wide spread amongst the Benefactors. In face of necessity it evolved into an effort to make it a reality; SOTU was repurposed into a prison facility. Instead of upgrading him to be able to be more habitable, they completed the claustrophobic city with taller sealed walls and gates, and a new set of laws/taboos for the Iterator to obey. Making for a secure, depressing, fully automated trap box.

Now more about the Sentinel himself...

SOTU has always been a rather reserved personality that struggled to express emotion or weakness. There was a specific idea he had to live up to, (be it conditioned into him or self-imposed) of someone competent, serious and strong. Giving off a strict, cold and unapproachable first impression. The Group Senior that believes he has to carry the woes of the world on his shoulders alone and never break, in order to be a good example.

However, despite poorly expressing it, SOTU does deeply care about his people and about his peers. And always tried his best to be someone they can relay on, without directly admitting it though. Like a grumpy old man, would chew one out for making a mistake first, and then help them out of trouble, without sparing any effort.

Would never admit it, but feels quite hurt by how easily his citizens decided to abandon him, and resents them for what he's been turned into. He really tried to take care of everyone. He doesn't enjoy what his city has become, he doesn't enjoy being feared. Secretly wished it was a lot more like something that of TS's city... full of life, bonded and happy, but is unable to let go of the false idea what a Senior should be like, denying himself vulnerability to even express that.

The reformatting into a prison only worsened this problem. The new, additional programming discouraged acts of compassion or affection. (So that he doesn't pity the prisoners)

Despite best efforts, his group did not integrate very well. His ways of handling things left much to be desired, some labeling him a tyrant no one can ever reason with. Some just simply disliked him too much to ever relay on his advice. Communicating within the group was difficult, hence why eventually many stopped bothering and kept to themselves, or to smaller private cliques.

The repressed emotional impulses did catch up to him eventually, allowing for small acts of disobedience against the law.

Didn't stop SOTU from feeling it though. And feeling he sure did....

Those efforts were too little too late, inadequate to prevent the conflicts escalating into hostility. Once an arrest warrant was cast from the Benefactors above, there was nothing he could do. And once the poorly integrated group got a taste of connection against a "common enemy" it was over.

Delays, stalling, omitted reports, "errors", "lost" data, "unreceived" broadcasts... All in efforts to keep the prisoner numbers low, and make the stay of those present shorter and more bearable. Ignoring all reports about what was going on in TS's city in particular- hoping to at least protect something SOTU could never be.

TS got hurt, and the lively community on top was broken up. It is unclear who is responsible for the malware attack idea, nor who exactly deployed it, but SOTU feels fully responsible regardless. He wallows in ever growing guilt and regret since.

the great irony of early one piece antagonists believing zoro was the actual captain and using luffy as a puppet ... oda really threw us a bone and curb-stomped it right in our faces. yes, zoro could be a captain in his own right. yes, zoro could match luffy in strength. yes, zoro knows this perfectly well. and you know what? he chose luffy two years ago, and he will continue to choose luffy again and again. roronoa zoro, the pirate hunter, who followed a wannabe pirate with a nonexistent crew on a whim because luffy brought him his swords and made a half-assed attempt at a bargain. zoro, who made a vow to never lose again on both his and luffy's honor. zoro, who told luffy he'd make him commit harakiri if he got in the way of zoro's goal, only to turn around and be willing to sacrifice his dream if it means that luffy reaches his. zoro, who stood in place and took luffy's pain and told a warlord to take his head instead of luffy's, who got down on his knees before his supposed rival and begged mihawk to mentor him so that he could return strong enough to protect his captain. zoro, who has conqueror's haki- a natural born leader- but chooses to stay at the right hand of a man he has deemed greater than himself.

and the thing that luffy fears most? being alone. being rejected. being left behind. and what should have been his foil- the pirate hunter to his pirate king, the nonbeliever to his divine, the king of hell to his sun god- instead becomes his first and most devout follower; the one who demands to follow him to hell and back. oughhhggg i'm sick to my stomach

live action star wars is never going to give us the heartfelt emotional scene of ezra seeing lothal again for the first time, at least not in the way that we deserve. seeing him land on the planet and walking wistfully through the tall grasses, loth cats trailing in his wake; walking through the city with a bit of a heavy heart because these streets and buildings are so familiar, and yet so different at the same time, because the city has grown and thrived in the empire's absence. we're never going to see him crying quiet, joyful tears because he's finally home.

Today was the day.

The day of Lexi's play.

Lexi has been your best friend for years now. Of course you were gonna be there. You even helped her with the play.

Just before the play, you were quick to come see her backstage. "And I got you the dress you needed, too." You tell her, grabbing the dress out of your bag.

Your boyfriend, Elliot, stood behind you, his arms wrapped around your waist as your back pressed against his chest.

Lexi smiled at you, giving Elliot a look before speaking to you. "Thank you, Y/n/n."

You saw the hesitant expression on her face. Though you didn't know why she was acting like this. Maybe she was nervous.

"Hey, you're gonna do amazing." You reassure her. She managed a smile. "Thanks.. but.. What if-what if I hurt someone's feelings?"

"Sometimes people need to get their fellings hurt, Lex." The girl shook her head. "Yeah but.. what if that's not the case?" You had to frown.

"If you're worried about Cassie–" "It's not that Y/N." Lexi told told you, shooting anoter a look at Elliot.

"It's just–I want you to know that everything that happens in this play is completely true. But also that I never wanted to hurt anyone, okay?"

You nodded, confused as heck. "Yeah, I know." She took your hands in hers, at which you looked behind you, at Elliot with a frown that he returned.

"Lexi?" But before anyone could say anything else, Bobbi walked in. "We're going up in eight." She announced. Lexi nodded. "I'll be there." She told the girl.

"We should get going before all the seats are taken." Elliot tells you. You nod at that. "Yeah, okay." He took your hand in yours as he lead you out the room.

You shot a quick look at Lexi behind you. "Break a leg!" You said before leaving with your boyfriend.

Sitting with Elliot as you watched Lexi's play was supposed to be nice, but you felt his hand tremble in yours, and he shot a nervous look at Jules every now and then.

"Hey." You wishper to him. "Are you okay?" "Yeah. Don't worry, I'm fine." He assured you, pressing a kiss to your temple.

"You sure?" You ask again. He nods. "I'm sure.. You know I love you right?"

That was pretty random to say, but I guess it's never a bad moment to say those words.

"I love you too." You respond, leaning your head on his shoulder as you direct your attention on th eplay again.

about like twenty minutes later the play took a different turn.

"My best friend, 'Inaya', was the only actual normal girl out of all of us. She never cared about boyfriends, drugs, alcohol, sex, the way she looked, wheter she got attention or not." Lexi's voice echoed trough the room.

"But then, she met a boy. A boy who was everything she despised yet couldn't help falling madly in love with.. His name was 'Eli'."

You frowned at that, not recalling Lexi having a part in the play about you and Elliot.

You sat up straigh and you both exchanged looks with each other, his frown reflecting yours.

"I had never seen a couple so in love before. Inaya loved Eli. Eli loved Inaya. The two of them looked at each other like they hung the moon and the stars in the air." Lexi continued.

"I really had a feeling they might just make it.. That's why it shocked me so bad that Eli was having an affair Jade's grilfriend; Julia."

The crowed gasped, but they went unnoticed by you. Your heart was beating so loud it was deafning to your ears, your eyes widened slightly at the new information.

"It's just–I want you to know that everything that happens in this play is completely true. But also that I never wanted to hurt anyone, okay?"

Now it all makes sense.

The way Lexi looked at Elliot.

The way Elliot looked at Jules.

The way Elliot acted so nervous lately.

The way Elliot showered you with a lot of love anytime you got alone together lately.

He was cheating on you.

"You're cheating on me?" You wishpered to not draw any attention from the other students, but you're voice had a slight crack in it.

Elliot looked at you, and you could see the pain in his eyes. "Y/n.."

Not wanting to cause a scene, you stood up. "I'm just.. gonna go to the restroom for a sec."

"Y/n." But you already left.

As you walked up the stairs to leave, someone grabbed your arm. You looked down to see Rue who was still sitting in her chair.

She got cheated on too, but you had a feeling she already knew.

"Y/n.. are you okay?" Rue asked you, clearly concerned for you. You took a breath, trying not to cry. "Are you?" You ask her, not wanting to talk about your own problems. She nodded.

"Did you know?" You proceed to ask, pain in your tone.

She stayed silent for a bit, and that was all you needed to know. A quiet whimper escaped you. Even Rue didn't tell you.

"Okay." You nodded before taking off.

And it took everything in Lexi to stop herself from jumping off that stage and run after you.

Elliot found you in the restroom.

What he didn't expect was to see you full on crying.

"Y/n.." He walked over to you, his hands wanted to reach out and just hold you close, you stepped back.

"You cheated on me."

"It wasn't like that–"

"With Jules. Fuck I knew I couldn't trust her." You muttered to yourself.

"Y/n, please, it didn't mean anything. Jules doesn't mean anything to me, I can't stand her."

"Oh yeah, you dislike her so much you decided to make out with her behind your girlfriend's back."

"Y/n, you don't understand. None of this was meant to hurt you."

"Well it did, Elliot! It hurts like hell! I trusted you. I trusted you with everything! You were the first person I told all my secrets, you were my first kiss, you were my first–, you were the first boy I've ever–" You cut yourself off with a broken whimper.

"God Elliot, why would you do this to me? Was I–Was I not good enough for you? Not pretty enough? Not open enough? If there was something wrong you could've told me and I would've worked on it. I would've done that for you!"

Elliot shook his head, his eyebrows furrowed. "No, no, Y/n. You're the most perfect person in the world, you don't need to change anything, I love you the way you are, I love you so, so much."

And the worsg thing is was that you knew those words were true..

You gulped, trying to wipe your tears away, failing at that. "We should stop seeing each other." You got out.

It was as if Elliot's world had stopped. "No."

"Yes."

"Y/n please."

"You knew you had this coming when you sucked face with Jules." You spat at him.

"I never wanted to do that." He protested. "But you did! You ruined everything, Elliot!"

Your eyes were filled with tears, and you mentally slapped yourself for feeling like this over a stupid boy.

Elliot gathered his courage together and stepped closer to you, his arms gently wrapping around you, chin resting on your head as he held you while you cried.

"I'm so sorry baby." He kissed your head. "I love you so much." "Than let me go.." You responds. "I can't."

You stepped back. "We can't be together anymore Elliot. The sooner you realize, the better."

The boy couldn't take it. Hearing you say that. Knowing he might lose you. It was frustrating.

"Fucking hell Y/n, I can't do that shit. Can't you see?"

"You did this to yourself."

"No. I didn't. Jules just is a fucking bitch."

"Yeah I know that Elliot. She's the reason I'm breaking up with my boyfriend."

"I don't wanna break up! What do you want me to do? You want me to stop drinking? Fine, done. You want me to stop smoking? Okay, I'll never look at a cigarette again. You want me to stop doing drugs? I will. Here."

He took a little bag of drugs out of his pocket and flushed it down the toilet.

"I'll get clean for you. I'll stay clean for you. I'd do everything for you if you just stay with me." He begged you, desperation clear in his tone.

You shook your head. "You should stay clean for yourself, not for me." "I want to.." Elliot told you.

"Then maybe work on that before you come back to me." You state. "Please don't do this."

You squeezed your eyes shut. "No. Elliot. You can't do that." "I'm not doing anything!" He said in defense.

"Yes you are. You're giving me those eyes cause you know I can't resist them. I–You cheated on me. And I'm not gonna just forget about that because I think you're cute–or-or because I'm in love with you. I just can't."

The curly head tried to step closer to you, but you stepped back. "Tell Lexi I'm sorry for leaving." You instructed.

"I love you." Elliot repeated, but you just walked away.

after debating for weeks whether to stay very far away from the deltarune soriel discourse or let myself ramble about my faves like I want to, the latter has finally won out

I've had time to properly absorb the weight of all that happens at the end of chapter 4, and obviously I do feel for both kris and susie. that is The Point of the scenes being from their perspectives; after everything they just went through and all the worry they had for toriel's safety (for the second time in 24 hours!), the scene they come home to is maybe the most uncomfortable slap in the face possible. it sticks out to me that the last thing susie talks about before the dark fountain is sealed is her wanting tomorrow to be the same as yesterday and for everything to always be able to go back to how it was, and that's what greets them - a blatant, obnoxious sign that things are changing. even though the scene has a lighthearted side, its overall tone adds to the downcast feeling the chapter ends on.

having said that, as someone who has spent the past 9 and a half years being normal about sans and toriel, I'm still very very happy that this is a canon scene we got 💜

the fandom may be largely not considering their perspectives in the slightest (or worse, only viewing their perspectives from the most bad faith angles possible), but I for one love this for them!! as other very good posts have pointed out, toriel has been sorely in need of someone who's there for her - an awful lot of people in town saw the divorce play out and have something to say about it, the holiday family are closer to asgore than toriel, kris is her child and stuck in the middle of their parents' issues, and while she's friends with alphys, them being coworkers and alphys being kris' teacher likely puts a distance of sorts between them. but sans is new in town, someone she immediately connects with, who has no pre-existing opinions about her family and has seen firsthand what toriel has to put up with from asgore. in every universe, sans is exactly the kind of person toriel needs in her life.

there's less to work with from sans' perspective given how little we know about him, and I'm not all-in on sans being from deltarune just yet (more specifically I do love the theory, I'm just giving myself room to not be too disappointed if it doesn't happen), but the new version of it's raining somewhere else being named 'the place where it rained' emotionally destroys me forever. either way it drives home just how happy toriel makes sans in both worlds and I love that so so much :']

to be clear I'm not saying they did nothing wrong, their choices negatively impacted kris and susie and they were objectively disruptive and inconsiderate after kris went to bed. but I like that they're being messy and flawed, because it means this isn't just "my faves are getting closer in the background yippee" but that their relationship is potentially an actual part of the story, and that's how you get The Good Stuff!! we wouldn't have had meaningful character moments like noelle finally standing up to queen if queen hadn't tried to control noelle and just listened to her from the start, or susie comforting ralsei with her bloodied hand if he'd told her and kris every detail of the full prophecy the moment he met them and never kept any secrets. if all the hints towards a flower shop dark world turn out to be true then it's pretty clear the story is building things up to make those future character moments hit, and considering we still don't know what happened with the dreemurr divorce at this point, chapter 5 seems like a perfect opportunity to dive into all of that.

plus, as sweet as susie's bond with toriel is, I honestly think susie seeing this side of toriel needed to happen. a lot of the fandom's complaints about toriel right now boil down to her not being the "perfect mother" they thought she was, and what bothers me about that is toriel was never meant to be that kind of character. toby has said that she's not the classic video game protagonist's mother who sees you off on your journey and you can come home and visit any time, and nothing changes and she never has any substantial character of her own. in undertale she literally handholds frisk through the tutorial, she becomes the first boss in her attempt to protect them when every other human left her care, and once they leave she won't let them come back or even call her phone because she can't face seeing them knowing they'll leave again and likely be killed. she's more than just the mother figure of the game, she's her own person with likes and dislikes, hobbies and flaws, and a past and trauma she can't overcome until the best ending.

we've only seen the tip of the iceberg of her history in deltarune, but that same principle holds true: she isn't the perfect parent you return to after each day's adventure, who gives you butterscotch pancakes every morning and never has any real part in the story because that isn't the intent behind her character. she mentioned her loneliness back in chapter 1, kris has secrets and problems they aren't letting her in on, asgore is being relentlessly inconsiderate of her boundaries, and for all susie's praise of toriel being a good mother, I think that house of cards was going to fall eventually. my hope is that, like her blowing up at ralsei ultimately bringing them closer, susie being able to see toriel as the imperfect adult she is but one who does genuinely care might help them build a stronger bond in the end too.

I think I always knew that if soriel ever inched closer to being canon there'd be discourse about it, and toriel slander is unfortunately nothing new. people are just being annoying about it currently and it sucks when I genuinely love what's being built up here!!

anyway crossing my fingers for a scene where toriel invites sans to the festival before she gets thrown in the bunker/he gets sent to undertale/the roaring happens/all of the above 🤞
