"I know it's only been a couple of months but what are the chances the two of you have any vow renewals on the horizon?" Lucky asks in jest as he takes the coffee she made him from her, holding it in his hands as he sat on her couch and waited for it to cool enough to not scald him from a sip, "Theo was very into the whole being a flower girl thing, she keeps asking when she can do it again."

Lucky gives a nod as Will tells him why there was no firm date set yet, understanding the logic behind it. Truth be told, he was just glad there still was a wedding to look forward to.
"That makes sense. Plus, why rush it? You both know you're in it for good, so."
Though Lemie's rash actions could have easily implied otherwise, Lucky had been sure that it had nothing to do with Will himself before his sister had ever confirmed the same to him.
For the rest of their afternoon in Four Leaf Lucky made a conscious effort to be careful of what he said so as to not evoke any further reminders of his sister's brief runaway episode, opting instead to enjoy his time with the best guy he knew who he still couldn't fully believe wanted to grant him the same title in an official capacity.
@willxmeyers
Will relaxes into his seat, watching as Lucky folds up the handmade shirt. He could have done something else, made the ceremony more extravagant but these days, less was more and he was sure Lucky appreciated the gesture. Whether he ever wore the thing outside the confides of him was another thing entirely. "Wise choice, best man."
At his first wedding, he'd had some business associate as his best man. His father never approved of anyone who actually liked Will, only those who were easily moved around like furniture.
The mention of a date has him looking down at the menu. "Nearly." Will replies casually, knowing it's more of a half-truth. "Given everything that's happened with Lemie, I'm.. tentative on putting a final stamp on anything just yet." If anyone understood the situation better, it was probably Lucky. "I'm think we'll wait for spring. I want the garden to be in its full glory."

A weekday off when he didn't have his daughter meant Lucky had time to fill with other things and one of his favorite things to do was bother his friends when he knew they couldn't escape him.
Today's chosen target was Jared in his place of business.
"If they do another one of those masquerades at New Years I tragically won't be able to be your date to it," He tells him as he browses puka necklaces. Lucky was a boy's boy through and through but he had acquired a permanent date in the year that had passed and he was looking forward to ringing in the New Year with her, "You got any benchwarmers you can call up in that scenario? Maybe someone specific that springs to mind. So something can bloom and perhaps... Blossom."

As Theo aided Tabitha in reciting a list they had clearly both gone over plenty before the day had arrived, Lucky counted them off on his fingers until their daughter had got to three, nodding in enthusiastic agreement to final one that ranked most important.
More than anything, he just wants her to have a good day.
After one final hug that was wriggled out of, Lucky stands up and stands next to Tab, waving to their daughter as she's led inside with a teaching assistant.
He manages to keep it together as he watches her excitedly disappear passed the doors of the school, a sudden and intense swell emotions hitting him as soon as she was out of his line of sight.
"Fuck," He says under his breath as he tries to blink away the tears in his eyes that had formed of their own volition before they could fall, shaking his head at himself, "I don't even know why I'm crying."
Being present for a milestone that felt as big as this did made him happy, but there was a sadness that rippled through it all too. For the milestones he missed, for the time that he no longer had with her. It all felt so fleeting.
He looks to Tabitha then, grateful to have someone who knew exactly what he was feeling and to be able to be that same someone for her. No matter how much and how often he doubted himself, he never doubted the pair of them as a team.
"Can I have a hug?"
@tabithaxking
It felt like a monumental moment. A pivotal milestone that would indicate that her little girl was officially growing up. It had been hard to manage not only her own feelings, Theo's and of course, Lucky's as well over the last couple weeks but they'd made it to the gates of Aurora Bay Elementary with only a few minor meltdowns.
Letting out a steadying breath, Tabitha knew she needed to be strong. It was usually so easy to push her emotions down, but watching Theo dress herself for her first day of school had her busying herself in the kitchen to keep from crying. She still had fully lost the feeling she wasn't on the verge of tears.
Tabitha half listened to Lucky's sage advice as she worried about whether or not she'd packed the pencil case they'd picked out and that Theo would have enough for lunch. There were a million things that could go wrong and Tabitha could swear she'd only contemplated a fraction of them.
However, when called upon by Lucky, Tabitha gave an uncharacteristically enthusiastic response. "That's right, Dad." Squeezing Theo's hand, she looks down at her daughter before kneeling down alongside her. "What are the three things we're going to do today?" She asks, encouraging Theo to repeat the phrases they'd practiced. "Learn something new, eat all my lunch and have fun," Theo listed before Tabitha joined in for the last one. "Have fun! Exactly, that's all you have to do."
If there was any hesitation on Theo's side, Tabitha couldn't detect it. In fact, it seemed more like she was placating her parents more than needing their encouragement. "We love you so much, Monkey. You're going to have an amazing time, okay?"
The bell rings and Tabitha feels the vibration ripple through her chest. Giving Theo a big squeeze, she quickly wipes her face to catch the rogue tear that's fallen as she releases her daughter into the big, wide world.

"Are they good at finding all your hiding spots? Me and my twin were like that. We never really agreed on much as kids, but cracking the code on where our dad tried to hide our Christmas gifts was our combined superpower."
A wistful smile graced his face then, it wasn't often he could look back on his childhood find something solely rooted in good but it warmed him when he could.
"I haven't even thought about decorations, the shopping was daunting enough," He admits, the combination of crowded places full of rushing consumers and his anxiety never made for a winning combo, "I know what I'm going to get one of my sisters, the other one's harder to buy for."
Harder to deal with too, he thought.
"I'm not sure what I'm getting my girlfriend yet but it's our first Christmas officially together so I want to make it good. What about you?"
@reneebrandxn
Renee laughed as she tapped her fingers on the outside of her coffee. It was rare that she got a chance to settle down and enjoy coffee, but with the kids at school, she could take this time to catch up with Lucky. "No, I am nowhere near ready for Christmas. I still have so much shopping to do, not to mention I still have to unpack all of the Christmas decorations. I should probably do that before I shop. And I have to find a good hiding spot for the Santa presents. I feel like my boys will be able to sniff them out so it has to be good. You know what you're getting others for Christmas?"

"It definitely doesn't look like a store window display, so maybe you've nailed it."
He wouldn't go so far as to call it effortless, he could see some clear effort in what he had chosen and how he had arranged it, but he didn't see anything wrong with that. There was no shame in caring enough in an attempt for it to look like an attempt.
Lucky reaches out to poke at a dangling skeleton, only finding out that it was battery-operated when it let out a maniacal hyena like cackle.
"I don't like this guy," He tells Angel when the laughter subsides, glancing around the firefighter's immediate neighbours to try and pick out which was his nemesis, "Who's the main competition? I'll give you my honest evaluation on who done it better."
@firefighterrojas
Angel gives pause, folding his arms across his chest; tapping a finger against his forearm as he considers Lucky's question. What's your definition of much? Anything over the top is the answer that springs to his mind first but he stays silent on the realisation that over the top is relative. What Lucky considered over the top, Angel might have considered understated.
A frown appears in the middle of his forehead; brows pinched together. This line of thinking was getting him nowhere.
"A store window display?" Angel says finally, answering for the sake of not making things weird by remaining silent for too long. "It needs to look effortless and like I'm not trying too hard without looking half assed."
"Honestly?" Angel glances in Lucky's direction with a coy look in his eye. "I just want to beat my neighbour in the annual halloween decorating competition."

The question that Noah asked shouldn't have thrown him the way it did, the answer not easily conjured and so it caused him to further spin out internally. He inhales slowly and exhales the very same, his breath shaky as his body registers a danger that was nowhere but in his own mind.
"I don't know," He admits, of both what was over there and what he was experiencing at that very moment.
( What brought it on, when it would pass, why it happened -- he just didn't know. )
"Quiet's good," Lucky concedes, speaking with a dry mouth and little will left to try and shake-off the man who seemed determined to be unshakeable.
Even amongst the static his mind finds ways to compare, wondering what it might be like to be so steadfast.
He's not sure anyone would even call him steady.
He breaks from where they were standing again, auto-piloted feet carrying him further from the crowd that that was growing livelier with the concert start time fast-approaching. The sand seems as good a place as any to be, stilling himself by taking a seat on the secluded stretch where the sounds of people were less audible than the sound of the ocean.
"Sorry," He manages to say, not wholly sure what it is he's apologising for.
@noah-atwood
Everything about this guy is not fine. It screams the exact opposite. The tremble in his hand, his voice, the shortness in his sentences. At this point, it's a matter of determining whether it's him trying to be shifty about something he's done or taken, or if it's something else.
Noah thinks the latter, and he remains level as he would no matter the situation. Curious even, with a soft 'oh' as he looks over his shoulder in an aimless direction.
"Where's over there?"
It doesn't look to be much.
"Do you mind if I walk with you? You're not in trouble, I work with medical, and I want to make sure you're okay."
And not going to pass out somewhere in this mess. No matter the severity of his situation, Noah's locked in. When a security guard walks by and casts a quick glance over, he waves him off. "We don't even have to go to the med tent, we can avoid that noise. Just somewhere quiet to chat, see how you're doing. I'm Noah, by the way."

"I'd hope there's not cliques with five year olds but then again, kids are so much more advanced than we were which I know accidentally makes us sound ancient but you know what I mean. You work with kids, how scary's the next generation shaping up to be?"
Lucky knew his he had been blessed with a well-behaved kid, but he knew the same couldn't be said for everyone else's.
He manages a mid-sip 'uh huh' around his straw as Helena told him the blunt truth of what had caused the rift in her friendship with Buddy, which made sense to him as soon as she said it. Sex complicated things, he had had to learn that lesson a few times.
"I don't know what he was going through," Lucky says after she was done speaking, not one to ask either because it was neither his business nor his place to, his only real concern was Helena, "But it's not hard to send a text."
On some level, he knew that there was some hypocrisy present in what he said. There were stretches where it was hard for him to send a text, when a paralysing fog took over his being and he fell off the face of the earth for all things except Theo.
He knew the why of that about himself, what was this guy's excuse?
"It's cool that you're being so understanding about it but I hope you're not going to let him jerk you around. Your friendship is worth a lot more than that."
@helenasoarcs
"I'm happy you looked into it a little bit more because that search could have brought us to some weird places."
A friend had told her about how they booked a massage and was pretty surprised when the masseuse gave them a little bit more than they paid for. Sometimes reading the reviews and descriptions paid off.
While the drink and the waitress seemed relatively normal, she was still skeptical of what could come out of this place. An impromptu show, dance, or whatever else.
With the theme on hand, it felt like they could go above and beyond with activities.
She nods her head in agreement, grimacing at the thought of going to school and the isolation she felt in a sea of people but she felt that maybe it was more her than the situation. Helena was never popular and always had a small amount of good friends - and she preferred it as such.
"I just hope it's different than it used to be. You know with the cliques and shit."
"Well, we fucked." She swallows her drink and lets that settle before she shrugs as if it wasn't a big deal despite how tormented she'd been about it. "Then he dipped immediately after so I was kind of in my own head about it." But also because she felt like maybe it meant more to her than it did him.
"He was going through something heavy so I get it, but it still sucks. A text would have been all I needed, you know, but I don't blame him for the mindset he was in at the time. I don't know where it leaves us right now. Probably not the same, so that sucks." / @luckylewis

Lucky leaned over the rooftop edge, watching half of his cigarette plummet to a very unnecessary death after the circumstantially unfriendly giant's choice of actions.
"Noooo," He says around when he thinks it hit the ground, straightening back up so he could look at his girlfriend's brother with the same expression he would have worn if he was stood there demanding he start talking Mandarin.
"I'm obviously not going to do that and I'm going to be really reasonable about that very unreasonable thing you just did because it seems like you're having a tough night."
He does his best to be gentle about it, knowing he would be having a tough night himself if he was in Mack's shoes trying to play it cool while attending an ex's birthday party where there was feelings involved.
( If playing it cool was even what he could call it. )
He pockets his cigarette box in case Mack made a swipe for it, his arm absently wrapping around his girlfriend's waist to keep her near as he tried to be moderately more helpful in person than he was on Mack's finsta's close friends story.
"Have we thought about maybe having a conversation with Cricket tonight?"
@macaulaymontgomery / @mackmontgomery
Mac raises her brows as she approaches like she doesn't quite believe him, a skeptical tilt of her head as her steps bring her to stand toe to toe with him.
"You smoking in a suit -- I feel like I should take a black and white photo of you to frame and put in a locket or some shit, this is a very suave vibe. Very James Bond," she informs him as she smooths down the lapels of his jacket.
Mac didn't particularly smoke much herself (not cigarettes, at least) but the act always had a sort of romantic appeal to her.
(There was probably a reason all her exes had been smokers.)
"Uh huh," she said brightly with an eager nod, taking the cigarette as he offered it and bringing it carefully to her mouth so she doesn't get too much of her pink lipstick on the filter as she inhaled.

With a backpack on his back and an Ethel Cain tote hanging from his shoulder, Lucky felt like something akin to a pack mule as he trekked to the firestation with Olie to make a donation to the Toys for Tots drive that was ongoing.
"You see that?" He says to his friend as they stroll, holding up his left hand to show her where a fresh scrape was healing on the back of it, "That was your shorthaired co-workers doing when she was in the vet's for a check-up. She caught me off guard."

"Do you kind of love this?" Lucky asks as he looks over to Finn next to him, finding himself oddly soothed by the clip-clop of hooves and the pull of carriage wheels beneath them, leaning back against the seat as he relaxed with the knowledge that the likelihood of some horse-drawn tragedy wasn't as high as he thought before they trotted off, "Because I kiiiind of love this."
He knew someone else who would, which was why his tone turned graver then.
