Writers and world building vs. Writing the story in the world

#yes I'm calling myself out #i've been world building the same story for more than half of my life #but the last couple years has been adding people #where before it was places #before then it was landmasses and biomes and weather and the major route of travel #before that it was Pre History and Assumptions that Survived vs The Truth That Was Obscured And Lost #before that was the dieties and how the Creation Story goes #and each layer built upon the last #and I wanted all of them while building over arcing cultural things like language and writing and organized religion and governance #because the story is about traveling across an entire landmass held by an Empire #Empires have components with their own identity #that comes from The Before Times and how They Changed between then and now #what was embraced and what was resisted #what caused conflict #what resolved it #and I Have Been Thinking About It for 20 years lol

Not a big deal to me. I like it, I see all the appeals, I just personally like Rarijack more.

#ask me #anon #if you wanna know why i like rarijack more i just think they're a healthier depiction of a domestic and longterm relationship #appledash gives me the vibes of gfs that'll eventually break up #because from s1 to s8 their relationship and communication with each other on serious things never really matures or grows #they were competitive and petty in s1 and they were competitive and petty in s8 #arguably worse cuz in that s8 episode their dynamic becomes so toxic they almost cause a student under their care to drown #both of them have a superiority complex that's constantly conflicting with each other and it never really gets resolved #but with rarijack there's a very clear arc of development you can follow in their character #and multiple episodes show how they'll argue and eventually come back together and apologize and communicate and work to better things #you can watch them grow to like and understand each other. in s1 aj scoffs and makes fun of rarity's work in fashion #but in a later season (after some conflict) aj says that she doesn't understand fashion but she knows it means a lot to rarity so it means #a lot to her too. and that's what love is to me. “it didn't mean anything to me until it meant something to you”#it's genuinely really sweet and i'd argue rarijack /feels/ the most romantic out of all the main 6 ships. through arguing they grow closer #which is how it's supposed to be in relationships that last! you argue to work out your interpersonal problems and understand each other #(which is why it's genuinely kinda baffling to me that appledash ended up being canonically married because they never gave me those vibes)#but it really doesn't matter. they're cartoon horses! have fun with them

it's kind of funny that we're back at the start, as it was known from the very beginning, as the story always was, the old lore: "the Divine Gate was built in response to the destruction and suffering of the Calamity as the Prime Deities realized was far too much and, as such, they needed to also remove themselves from Exandria to protect it from the ruin that the gods dwelling here brings"

#I'm almost shocked the Divine Gate lore is like Exactly As Billed like oh so it was precisely what was said this whole time??#for all the hype about like changing perspective and Discovery it almost surprisingly like... non-conflicting with the history we DO know #like this coheres precisely with my understanding of this as a tragedy and why it happened and the realizations that it resulted in #there's always a lot of “this campaign is Everything You Knew Was Wrong” but I keep being “wait we did or kinda knew this for ages tho”#and in the end this decision about “our presence here and our fights do cause mass destruction and suffering and we must leave” is like #well yeah we knew that was how and why the Divine Gate happened? legit almost surprised it's exactly as we've been told from the start #Critical Role things #CR spoilers

Theres so many reasons for her not to want one. her job for one, the risks of pregnancy, the lack of medical care in hell, her and moxxie not talking about, Her and moxxie not planning for or on it, Money issues which have been mentioned MULTIPLE times btw, blitz spends all the company money on stupid stuff hes NOT a very good boss, Anxiety over raising a kid, fea rof the pain youd experience during birth, not feeling ready for one, maybe she'd rather have one in the future. the women is only 26.
