people are laughing at the stalinism map bc there is no methodology that makes sense to produce those results and so the numbers are completely arbitrary and detached from reality. anyway, if we're going to start holding ideologies responsible for people's deaths then we should probably start with capitalism, which is responsible for countless deaths every year ;)

I understand that it's unscientific (for once the minimum estimate of the holomodor in Ukraine is 3.5 million not 3), but the replies to it imply that the map is some evil pro capitalism propaganda and that it's silly to see stalin as a bad guy.

Imagine a post sharing statistics about a certain war, and people saying "if we're counting deaths we should probably start with *insert a war that had more casualties* ;)" - kind of insensitive to the victims of the thing the post was about in the first place.

Again, I agree the numbers are not factual, but how is "stalin ate these people like m&ms" the knee jerk reaction to it?
