May I ask what are your favorite MCD or Mystreet Ships or just Platonic Relationships? I love seeing people’s opinions on different characters relationships. I’ll occasionally see one that I never saw before and I think it’s so neat.

I’m sorry this ask took so long, this is the one that had all my progress deleted before I could save it anywhere during a blackout. So I didn’t try again to write it for a little while. I know you mentioned MyStreet but I want to make a Separate post for that so I might reblog this later with additions but for now I’m just gonna focus on the MCD side because I know my thoughts better on that and already have plenty to say about it.

Here’s like a little masterlist of my favourite ships + platonic relationships in MCD plus some itty bitty summaries with my thoughts on them. As always I’m down to elaborate on any of these if anyone has questions! I can always make more posts specifically about any of these pairings to fully like. Flesh out and brainstorm rewrite stuff. Some characters might overlap cause multiship win. Also these might sound non-canon because this is how I write them, a lot of this is in beeland not canonical jessland. And I've probably forgotten a shitton but fuck it we ball.

Romantic/Sexual Pairings

Garroth x Laurance. No surprises here, I’m predictable, not much to say other than what I say every other time. Enemies to friends to lovers dynamic, they’re toxic and bloody and they are obsessed with each other. They are codependent. They need each other. There is something so insane about enemies to lovers when they literally have seen the worst of each other and fall in love anyway, providing a foundation for such an intimate trust because they spent so long memorising each other for the sake of hatred. Now they would die for each other, now they are black holes for each other - I never really ship Garroth with anyone else in MCD specifically because they are completely absorbed in each other, and Laur only in like alternate timelines where Garrance aren’t quite as insane for each other and are capable of being normal exes. A delicious religious corruption sun x moon guard4guard freak4freak meal for me. Rich with hungry dog metaphors and plenty of blood. I will defend them to the death. In beeland general rewrite (not Loverman, sorry), they get to live on a farm in the middle of nowhere having an honest but peaceful life. They have a couple of kids, including Malachi<3 and once they’re old they are NOT fucking bothered by plot shit again. They go through many hells and then they finally get to rest. They are so fucking in love with each other that it makes me sickened how Jess accidentally gave me source material for the most insane yaoi that would take over my life for a multitude of years. I don’t know what to even summarise here because like. I’ve written a 500k fanfiction about them that is still ongoing like I don’t know what else to say about them that I haven’t already yapped on about. There’s probably more to talk about because I never stfu about them. No one is surprised.

Katelyn x Aphiah. More enemies to lovers but also in a more guard4princess dynamic, and if you squint also worshipper4god if you consider Katelyn devout. Katelyn enters as her assassin and does literally come close to killing her multiple times only to become her target’s most dutiful loyal guard. Their magicks call to each other. Katelyn teaches her how to fight and forces Aph to confront parts of herself that were unacknowledged before their meeting. Confident that with the amount of devotion, desire and pure angry emotion that I give Katelyn, if Laurance hadn’t been at the werewolf wedding in Season 2, she easily could have had a similar outburst and take his place there to save Aph. Katelyn is obsessed with her from the start, no matter whether considering Aph a symbol, then an enemy, then finally a friend, lord and lover. And Aph is utterly captivated by Katelyn, not just her beauty, but her power. Plus, majority of the things you like about Garmau and Laurmau can be translated to Katemau but better if you try.

Dante x Nicole. No enemies here, just lovers, oh god I love these two. They are both runaways haunted by their ‘past lives’, trying to create new names for themselves and heal. I associate them both with animals - Nicole quite literally as a fox, and Dante more metaphorically as a dog or coyote. They are best friends for YEARS before anything even happens between them, and I understand why Jess saw their vibe as an innocent young love/fling but also nooo………………….. I see the visions………………. They heal together… they understand each other’s vulnerabilities and insecurities so well….. they rescue each other…. they are adoring and energetic pure t4t love formed off years of friendship and mutual respect and like. They loved each other as friends and then they loved each other More and just very naturally became partners. They’re both very playful and adventurous when they open up, and even at their most different they’re this lovely dynamic of Nicole unable to stop yapping while Dante stares quiet and adoringly at her. And they fight together side by side!!!! (Hypnosis eyes for you to think more about mcd dancole)

Those are my big three holy trinity right nowwww but. Here are some more smaller-scale MCD ship dynamics that I also looove.

(Jeffory and Katelyn are also on this list but I talked about them yesterday in that other essay so I don't feel like repeating myself. Just know that they're included.)

Vylad x Laurance, errrr it’s complicated you already know what’s going on here. soul bonded or whatever, went through hell together. don’t know each other yet understand each other better than anyone, which isn’t saying much in vylad’s case, since no one comes close to ever really understanding him but if anyone’s going to pretend to, it’ll be laur. they are each other’s hopeful fantasy, like sitting in a dark cell and saying ‘do you think that, in another life-’. in this life, you will always have some kind of self-inflicted divide (you don’t know what the divide is blocking, because it’s not exactly friendship or romance but some third secret scary thing), but the thought will never die. you’re not even friends. in another life, maybe you could have gotten along somehow, but in this life you make stupid, foolish promises about freedom. you leave each other behind eventually, as is natural. vylad had far more clarity and knowledge of shadow knights that garroth never fully grasped, that made laurance feel seen. they make him feel seen in different ways. those damn ro’meaves.

Katelyn x Travis, nooo ha ha wow it’d be so funny if we were both burdened by years of pain and sacrifice thinking that we will never receive love only to find it in an unexpected place. it’d be so funny if you managed to save each other after years of being hurt. to the point that one of you feels that she wasted her only chance at love and the other is afraid that after years of isolation he will never know what it feels like. what if you realise that what you thought was frustrating and annoying is actually exactly what you need right now. maybe he was waiting for you his whole life. maybe he feels like letting go of a breath you didn’t know you were holding for so long. oomf if you keep on cracking the stupidest flirty jokes i might have to let down my tough exterior to actually smile a tiny bit if only in wry amusement but still, he gets her smiling. let’s go swimming and heal together oomfie!!!

Cadenza x Sasha, tragic sun x moon lovers forcefully separated. like your entire friend group was definitely all in love with both of these zvahl siblings at some point but like. instead of both of you being the fascination of this nerd freak one after the other, you two were meant to be together but could never voice it. you were such close friends that everyone already thought you were a package deal. not to be separated. only for everything to go wrong just as you are about to bring those feelings to light and now you will never get the chance because the girl you love just came back Wrong. and worse, she is so convinced that its Your fault that maybe it is, because if she believes it so forcefully it has to be true. without even knowing about gene altering her memories, you just let go because its the easiest thing to do. doesn’t make it hurt any less.

Laurance x Travis, but only in like a certain AU where Garroth is his ex but they’re not fucked up enough to be entirely obsessed with each other still. I don’t really indulge in Laurance or Garroth ships often because I am so ride or die for Garrance but I think in some world Laurance and Travis fit so nicely together, the same way that Laurance has that complicated relationship with Vylad but only in the circumstance that he’s not with Garroth. You have to hear me out here as I tell you that I understand Laurance on a deep insane level and you need to trust me when I say that he’s interested in science. He spends years ruling by emotion and temper. He’s searching for something logical, something with a straightforward answer that doesn’t depend on keeping his heart in check. He’s tired of being told to meditate or do yoga or whatever, thanks Vylad, he wants something tangible. Everyone is so busy worrying about him being this dangerous, volatile ticking time bomb that needs to calm down or leave when he’s already been through an emotional washing machine’s worth of hell that season alone. He’s tired and he wants a solution to a problem that is very much emotional, something that can’t just be fixed. Shadow Knights are made out of emotion, and ugly emotions at that, and now more than ever Laurance is so exhausted by the constant of it.

(Interesting to talk about later that Garroth and Laurance essentially swap, despite their respective emotional reputations, that Garroth’s leaving is emotionally driven and while Laurance’s is triggered by emotion, as per the Shadow Knight overreaction, his actual leaving is far more logical and straightforward, making it less emotionally destructive. Despite the notion that he is more emotional and Garroth is far more repressed, their breakdowns kind of reverse. It’s a little funny. Truly made for each other. Ok sorry no more garrance.)

And oh look who it is its Travis fist deep in the dirt hunting for worms with books and maps strapped to his back conducting the most fucked up science experiment known to man, someone who is very used to putting up a kind of faux performance to survive while having an incredible amount of burdens and sacrifices hidden beneath that carefully curated persona. They’re both incredibly clever, and despite those personas being playful and flirty, they know when to lock in to get the job done. And Travis is that perfect intruiging mix of heart and logic, because he’s blunt and straightforward especially when it comes to reciting things he knows from books, but when he gets passionate he can yap for hours. He is incredibly brave and sweet but also very studious and not very emotionally intelligent. He sees that Laurance has a problem and works himself to the bone to try and fix it for him, even when Laurance is trying to explain that its something unfixable. They’re kind of rivals at first that turn into besties who study each other sometimes. They are considering dissecting each other to figure out wtf is going on in the other’s brain. In a time period where literally everyone’s waiting for Laurance to snap, and he really does snap on Travis, it’s kind of comforting for someone to be fascinated by the Shadow Knight rather than afraid of it, and wants to approach it with science and reason rather than with emotion, fear or merely just projecting their own shames onto him. Their demon sides like each other or something.

Kiki x Cadenza, they’re pretty simple and cute. Sweet little background couple both passionate about nature - obviously Kiki loves animals, and Caddie is more interested in plants and gardening. They both have these almost-dormant magicks that emerge in very beautiful, caring ways. They are soft and tender with each other and also the idea of them meeting via Cadenza being a literal hen is kind of funny. They should throw rocks at Zane together.

Lucinda x KC, except I haven’t fuuuully thought about their endgame, just that they are so cute. Rivals to friends to rivals again, then friends AGAIN, then business partners/besties for many many years. And then when they’re older, lovers. They are stronger together, their magicks respond well to each other, and their individual business ventures actually work best when combined rather than competing. They don’t get together until they’re older ladies and, while Lucinda would still be working through some teacher-related conflicts, she’d be more willing to settle after years of wandering and long after being the White Witch, she might feel more comfortable sticking to one place. But even so they’re the kind of yuri that never has an explicit conversation about it and never tell anyone, it just happens so naturally, they’re old women who live together and have a dual witchcraft store + bakery and finally get to live in a place where they don’t have to feel ashamed of themselves or be in constant competition, even playfully, they can just Live. And also owl x cat dynamic is so cute.

Platonic/Familial Pairings

I feel like a couple of these I have talked about in more detail before so these will be kiiind of brief. Here are some of my favourite platonic dynamics and I am CERTAIN I've forgotten a lot of nice little underrated friendships but fuck it here's a top three.

These AREN’T ROMANTIC !!!

Dante, Aphiah & Aaron, their dumb dog-core little found family - Aaron becoming this old, gruff older brother figure for the both of them. After being alone for so long and bearing so much suffering, he finds solace and the beginning of a healing journey in both of them. None of them are replacing what has been lost per say, but fill the gaps of pieces missing in certain ways. Aphiah the amnesiac who, if she ever had a family at all, has literally no one now, getting to have a sibling dynamic with Dante, who waits so dutifully for his sister to come home. She looks to Aaron as a mentor figure, someone who can understand her feeling of otherworldliness and how she often feels alienated from the rest of the cast while also empathising with her as a Lord and a parent. She and Dante follow him and learn from him very attentively - and for Dante, to have an older brother figure that isn’t Gene. They take care of each other. An old wolf and the cubs that started following him around one day and while gruff and stubborn as to ignoring them at first, slowly learning to open up to them, thus earning their trust.

Vylad & Katelyn, give it up for EMOTIONALLY REPRESSED BESTIESSSSS. Every time I’ve brainstormed and thought about them with oomf I’ve been so genuinely pleased at the idea of locking them in a room together where they literally would just sit in silence and not be able to start a conversation. Such a painfully stubborn, awkward silence. Every scene they have together is so fucking funny do NOT put these guys on a boat together. They’re both gods of obsessing over their stony unfeeling tough exteriors to spare themselves of feeling. Kings of having tragic ass pasts and significant people in said pasts that haunt their respective narratives in a way that they feel no one will ever understand. So they can sit Close to each other sort of and continue to not understand each other but yet be the exact fucking same. GO TO THERAPY LOSERS.

Lucinda & Dante, go get therapy pt. 2, Dante you have to stop latching onto all of these caring figures that are a little older than you and provide some sort of semblance to a sibling, Dante stop it. She picks up on his subtle fear of witchcraft really quickly and decides to teach him more about what she does. He’s able to divulge parts of his past to her that he could never tell anyone about and she’s able to offer some comfort. I do appreciate that it’s not entirely one-sided - like yeah Dante is seeking comfort and understanding which he hasn’t really been able to take before, but he’s also there as a supportive shoulder for her, too, the way that his friendship with Aaron also starts out as mutual transaction. He notices that Lucinda has been feeling a little bit outcast by the town, even though she thinks thats what she has to be yet longs to be involved in the community, so he makes an effort to include her and spend time with her. He’s not really her apprentice, but he’s definitely willing to help out when he’s around, picking herbs and such. It’s a little funny that Dante is so insecure that he thinks of himself as undesirable and unloveable but a vast majority of town is literally a Dante fanclub willing to die for him and take him under their wing. Like oh baby. Your awkward charm is undeniable.

I really need to know what Rodimus was thinking throughout this whole scene, because even though it’s written from his perspective, we don’t get a lot of his thoughts, and I’d love to understand his thought process/why he was saying what he was saying. Because Rodimus gets kinda ugly in this scene? (Idk if that makes sense) But yeah! I love this scene so much, it’s very heartbreaking. I hope you’re doing well! And happy almost new year’s!!

“I'm not doing this again, Soundwave. I'm not. I can't.” Rodimus wanted to grab that visor, yank Soundwave down so they could talk face to face. He settled for jabbing a finger up at it. “We're doubling down on the trust. We're not leaving the arena 'til we figure this out. If you think I won't camp here until you speak up, you're wrong.”

“How long?”

“As long as it takes.”

Soundwave smacked a tentacle against the floor. “Mirage's spark pulse: constant torment. Interfered with everything. All thoughts, all actions. How long has he been watching me?”

“Do you remember the ship-wide meeting where I announced I was giving you more freedom?” Rodimus patted his hand against his chest. “I asked you if you could hear my spark pulse.”

Soundwave displayed a video of Rodimus looking up at him. An empty bottle sailed through the air behind him.

“You said you couldn't hear it. That was the price for your freedom, Soundwave. We'd let you roam around, but we had to keep an eye on you.” Rodimus took a step toward him. “After what you did? No one wanted to give you free rein. Even after you saved the ship from the supernova! But I knew you deserved it.”

A complex waveform manifested on the visor.

“Put yourself in my place, Soundwave. I bet you would have done the same thing. Or worse.”

Angry static.

“Okay, how about this: we gave you a second chance after you tried to kill everyone. You wanna give me a second chance?”

Soundwave played snippets of different voices from the crew. “What good is a second chance if the foundation broke apart?” He snapped his uninjured prongs. “Of course I fucking trust you!”

“Know what? You're right.” Rodimus stepped to the side and yelled, “Mirage!”

They stared at each other in cool silence as Mirage returned. Behind him, Ultra Magnus was escorting a concerned Megatron over to Perceptor.

Mirage held his palms up. “Captain, I must-”

“I'm absolving you of your tracking duties,” said Rodimus. He looked Soundwave right in the visor, willing every ounce of his sincerity into the stare. “You are no longer required to follow Soundwave. In fact, you may not follow him. Because we all trust him now.”

“Er, very well, captain,” said Mirage. “But of much more pressing concern is the-”

“Dismissed,” said Rodimus.

Mirage's biolights blinked. “No, captain. Respectfully, I shall not go until we speak on the matter of traversing dimensions.”

“So help me, Mirage, you had one job and couldn't do it. I'll talk to you when I'm done with Soundwave. Clear?” said Rodimus.

“But you swore on-”

Soundwave snapped his prongs at Mirage. He played Whirl's voice. “You made me feel insane.”

Mirage backed away, arm inching over his chest. “I don't know what you're talking about.”

“Dismissed,” said Rodimus. When Mirage was gone again, Rodimus continued. “What else? Get it out, Soundwave.”

“Danger: not desired.”

“Then don't do the danger.”

Soundwave's field flashed with irritation. “Stability point: required.” The tentacles roiled back on themselves.

This was a motion Rodimus hadn't seen before. He wasn't getting any helpful feedback from Soundwave's words or blank visor, but the tentacles... Rodimus always watched the tentacles. “What kind of stability point? What do you mean?”

“If you think I am a monster, than I am a monster.”

“Like hell you are. One, I never said that. Two, that logic is for people who don't have options and choices. You have options. You have choices.”

More angry static. A tentacle swung around. Tendrils danced in front of Rodimus's chest. For a second, Rodimus was back on the hull. Tendrils crept under blue polycloth. Dozens of cool touches, snaking and coiling around his Autobot badge. Around his spark.

Rodimus had not been afraid then and he wasn't afraid now.

“You're stuck with us, Soundwave. You're stuck with me. No getting around it. You know you have a place here. You have friends. You have your crystals.” Rodimus reached for the tentacle. It pulled away. “You want to do this the hard way? Fine. I do trust you, Soundwave. With my life. But not with my ship. You're literally made of data tendrils and you lied about using them. Can you blame me?”

The visor displayed quick cuts, various rooms around the Lost Light.

“Yeah, that. I called Mirage off. It's your turn to stop doing the bad thing. That's what the options and choice stuff is all about.”

Soundwave said nothing.

“If you're going to dig into the ship, I don't think we can stop you. I can order you to stop, but maybe you'll just do it anyway. Then what should I do?”

Soundwave said nothing.

“Permanent tier one chore cycle? Is that what you want?”

Soundwave played a video of Swerve screaming.

“Yeah, I'll bet.” Rodimus sighed. “It felt weird, Soundwave. Sitting next to you at game night, never knowing what you might truly be thinking or planning.” A tentacle darted toward him. It pulled back at the last second. “Punishing you forever isn't going to make you a happier mech. So, what are we going to do? Mirage isn't going to follow you anymore. Are you gonna stop digging into the ship?”

Soundwave's visor displayed their hab suite hallway. “There is a camera outside my door.”

“It's outside both our doors. I don't like it, either, but it's not going anywhere.”

Soundwave said nothing.

“Ugh. You're such a pain in the a-” Rodimus cut himself off. “I mean, let's try another approach. You literally built a steerable portal! We can go back to 0001 and get direly needed supplies. This is your great work, right? We should be celebrating, not having difficult conversations! I hate difficult conversations!”

“This is not my great work,” snapped Soundwave.

“It's not? Well, damn, I'm looking forward to it, then.”

Soundwave's tentacles continued their slow undulations. The visor looped waveforms.

This isn't getting anywhere. Argh. “You need a time out. Think about what I said, Soundwave. We should put this behind us and start fresh. I stop. You stop. We're even.”

Okay I'm working on the next ch today and was hoping to get it done by 2024 so I won't be super thorough in this answer. Here's a bullet point list of what's going on:

-Rodimus has just been put face to face with a Decision he made (have Mirage trail SW. he indirectly lied to SW about Mirage having an outlier power, SW just figured out Mirage has been trailing him and is angry). Rodimus does not like being wrong. He doesn't like facing the consequences of his actions, but he will face them. Head on

-one thing for people to remember is that TEG Rodimus is more mature and slightly 'softer' than MTMTE Rodimus. MTMTE Rodimus was a dick. You're such a pain in the a- is mild compared to things he's said and ordered others to do in canon. Like seriously there are a couple lines he has that make you (or at least me) really not like the guy. In fact, he was never one of my favorite characters. SO while he's been pretty understanding and patient for most of the fic, here we see him pushed to a situation stressful enough to bring back that more inherent attitude, one that takes work to soften. Kindness takes a lot of energy.

-“I'm not doing this again, Soundwave. I'm not. I can't.” this refers to the recent distance SW had from Rodimus. After the Irradion, SW avoided him, and Rodimus doesn't want to risk that happening again. It was deeply hurtful.

-Rodimus's thought process here is basically "SW thinks in a literal and direct fashion, but his default expression is to be quiet, so I am going to literally and directly ask him about this so we can figure it out." He asks direct questions because he knows SW's default is to be silent. Rodimus wants to get this conversation over with asap, but it won't go anywhere if SW is quiet. Hence "We're doubling down on the trust. We're not leaving the arena 'til we figure this out. If you think I won't camp here until you speak up, you're wrong.”

-Rodimus receives abstract answers to his questions. He keeps asking SW for clarification and repeating himself because he wants to get to the bottom of this. He wants to clear the air between them. This pattern is repeated several times. I'll simplify the conversation so you can see what I mean:

“What else? Get it out, Soundwave.” [Rodimus is asking directly for info]

“Danger: not desired.” [SW gives him an answer that doesn't make sense]

“Then don't do the danger.” [Rodimus gives what he feels is a good solution to this thing that doesn't make sense]

“Stability point: required.” [SW gives him another abstract answer]

“What kind of stability point? What do you mean?” [R asks for clarification. He wants to help SW]

“If you think I am a monster, than I am a monster.” [SW gives another abstract answer. This response does not answer R's questions on stability points and from R's point of view makes no sense]

“Like hell you are. One, I never said that. Two, that logic is for people who don't have options and choices. You have options. You have choices.” [R reiterates that SW has choices and options. He doesn't think SW is a monster. He wants SW to know that and to move on from the abstract answers]

From here, SW says nothing, so R gets very, very truthful. He spells things out exactly as they are.

“You're stuck with us, Soundwave. You're stuck with me. No getting around it. You know you have a place here. You have friends. You have your crystals.” This is meant to be self-evident. R is reiterating that SW has a place on the LL. Rodimus reached for the tentacle. It pulled away. “You want to do this the hard way? Fine. I do trust you, Soundwave. With my life. But not with my ship. You're literally made of data tendrils and you lied about using them. Can you blame me?” This is R telling SW the naked truth about what's going on.

The rest of the convo goes similarly, with Rodimus trying to get to the root of the issue and Soundwave being quiet or evasive. At one point Rodimus even tries to spin the convo to a positive note, highlighting SW's amazing recent achievement. You literally built a steerable portal! We can go back to 0001 and get direly needed supplies. This is your great work, right? We should be celebrating, not having difficult conversations! SW rebukes it. This goes on until Rodimus realizes the conversation isn't accomplishing anything, and he ends it.

We don't see Rodimus's thoughts directly because there's a LOT going on in this scene. In a dialog-heavy scene, written out thoughts can be intrusive and distracting for the reader. Rodimus's frustration and repeated attempts to communicate are conveyed through his words and actions instead. What he's saying is what he's thinking, here.

only telling you this for you to laugh at, im with the other Anons who are saying "this is NOT me pressuring you", i refuse

but i have a 13 year-old cousin who has been undergoing cancer treatments and is pretty close to remission! love that for her! and since she is a minor in the U.S.A., she qualifies for the Make A Wish Foundation. but my cousin is very indecisive and also overly considerate of others, and her parents have been telling her "no, that can't be your Wish" because she keeps trying to use it on other people or the family. we want her to use it on herself. and yes she has already been to both Disneyland and Disneyworld so she won't be using her Wish on that

but like my cousin is also both the most intentionally and unintentionally (hard to tell with her) funniest person i know. so this may become a running gag and she might straight up never use her Wish just to keep the gag going forever at this rate

whiCH AS A HILARIOUS EXAMPLE OF EXACTLY FUCKING THIS she asked me why i was snickering tonight. and i explained about your game (and how, no, she cannot play until she is older because i think the game is a little too scary for her) and how you have poly options and your askbox currently has Io/Connie/Val in it which you refuse to do and how funny you are about saying "no" to the ship

and she asked "do YOU want those three to get together?"

and i said "i think so, yeah. but i also respect the creator's-" and my cousin didn't even leT ME FINISH, SHE JUST WENT, IN THE CALMEST VOICE WITH THE STRAIGHTEST FACE "do you want me to use my Wish on making that happen?" and she just shrugged and went "if you're sure" and asked what else i was playing lately. it was hard to answer her because i was cracking up since almost dying laughing but trying to stiffle it..... at..... at just the absurdity of what had just happened between her and me and also just the hypothetical future of the Make A Wish Foundation having to contact you to see if you can fulfill her Wish. would have been fucking CRAZY alternate timeline, what the hell

any way. i do not think she was serious (....again, though, it is hard to tell with her,,) and she has been swatted away from the possibility since it is another "don't use your Wish on other people, use it for something YOU want!" pitch of her's and i will definitely have back-up from her parents in the unlikely scenario she is persistant (you will not be contacted by Make A Wish, i promise lol). also, keep her in your thoughts and prayers and all that, but as a reminder that this is not an unhappy story: the doctors are very sure her cancer will go into remission since her's has been reacting so well to the treatment. there is very little need to worry about her at this point, she just has a couple months left of treatment and then we wait to see if anything comes back or not during the next year and if it doesnt then she'll officially be in remission, and then after 5 years of remission then the cancer will be considered fully gone (fingers crossed! she's a strong kid and her body has reacted really well to her treatments, so we have lots of hope for her) maybe one day she will figure out how to use her Wish on herself. or maybe she will keep this joke going forever, heaven have mercy on her poor parents' patience lol

just thought her wild antics and running joke would make you laugh. once again, this was absolutely not me pressuring you about Io/Connie/Val. you do what you want. it is your game. but FUCK can you imagine if i let her??? assassin's apprentice by robin hobb (review? thoughts?? experience???)

Sometimes you read a book and are reminded of all the reasons you loved a genre when you were a teenager.

I love an unfolding - a book that is character-focused, but considers a character's place in the world to be a part of that. We learn about the world we're in, the magic and the social structure and the political situation, from the way these things relate to Fitz, and the way Fitz relates to them.

Magic (the Wit) is tucked naturally into the narrative voice, because to Fitz, it is natural - like thinking, like breathing. Any terms he uses relating to it (repelling, questing) are presented like they're terms he came up with himself, rather than a Magic System or Special Abilities - not that I don't also love a magic system, but it can be grating at times, to be asked to memorise the rules of a game before you get to play. Hobb plants Fitz firmly in the middle of his own experience, and the reader there with him.

Any additional information is provided by the voice of an older Fitz, writing the openings of each chapter with both the knowledge of hindsight, and the withholding of that knowledge. We get enough detail to elaborate, without infodumping. The world is allowed to be bigger than young Fitz's experience of it, while still being firmly rooted in the character. The reader grows as Fitz does, and there are enough hooks of interest - Fitz's parentage, the introduction of new characters and new dilemmas, the steadily growing threat that is being a royal bastard - that I'm inclined to let the book take its time winding through the plot. The point is Fitz - we're interested in what's happening, because it's happening to him.

Reading a book written in the 90s in 2023 is a weird kind of time-travel. We can put the book in the context of its contemporaries, and we also have a lot more information about the series (serieses?) that contain it, and the perspective of the author. Was the queer reading of the Wit as slap-in-the-face obvious in 1995 as it is today? I was 3 years old, I couldn't say. Reading it now, it seems obvious, even intentional - but that same Additional Context means that we also have the authorial protests to the contrary. I came to the series curious about this disparity between author and audience - having seen enough excerpts from the books (this one and later entries in the series) to slowly drive me insane (as an outsider!), it was clear that fandom was picking up on some kind of vibe from the text, but also, fandom is fandom. We love a ship.

The thing that struck me about this first book is that the queer reading exists outside of the Fitz/Fool dynamic. I'm aware that this dynamic uh, intensifies in later books, but in this first entry in the series, the queerness comes directly from Fitz alone. A young boy who connects with the world in a way he can't articulate to other people, who gets clocked by someone who knows what his Difference looks like, whose foundational experience with even this small-circle outing is traumatic and horrifying and is not made any less so by the fact that it was done out of an urge to 'protect' him. His Difference, textually, on the page, makes him less of a man, is comparable to bestiality.

Beyond all of that, the thing I found most resonant is the obvious love between Fitz and Burrich, his guardian-figure who wants him to suppress his affinity for the Wit. This particular heartbreak is a familiar queer experience, and the book doesn't pull its punches - again and again and again, Fitz seeks welcome, comfort, safety, acceptance from Burrich, even after (he believes) having unspeakable violence inflicted upon him as a direct result of his 'otherness'. Burrich is clearly shown to love, care for, and protect Fitz - but he cannot get over his fear and disgust of the Wit. He loves Fitz in spite of, not as well as, this difference. There are distinct moments in the book where it seems as though Burrich might be able to see things from Fitz's experience, might be ready to accept Fitz as he is - but he can't.

This experience of being loved as though your difference is something distinct from your person, like it can be excised from you and set aside, is one of the quiet devastations of being queer. The 'hate the sin not the sinner' version of tolerance, articulated via fantasy metaphor. Burrich is horrified to realise that Fitz thought he was capable of killing an animal because of his disgust, only understanding after many years that the kind of fear and digust he has exhibited towards the Wit is personal, does exist on the same level of abject hatred and rejection as murder. And even then, he can't move past it. He stares the consequences of his bigotry in the face, understands that it has made his ward fear him, understands that the lens he has viewed their relationship through all these many years has been clouded, understands that he made a monster of himself in Fitz's eyes, and he still can't change.

I don't think queer readings have to be blessed or even acknowledged by the author, and I don't think they even have to exist in the text for us to take the characters and themes out and play around with them. But there does exist this sweet spot of interpretation where the reading is there. Situations where Death of the Author slides neatly into play, where you take a story and wrap it around yourself and declare 'this one's for me, actually', and it simply doesn't matter what the intent was, because the text is there.

The book is not like, Gay Representation (TM), and I don't think it's something that should get credit or applause for its queer reading. But I also don't think queer readings are about credit or applause. My queer reading is based on me, as a queer person, reading queerness into the text of a work, of encountering art that resonates with my own queer experience. The book builds on this reading, supports it, threads it into the worldbuilding and the plot and the character relationships. Fitz's experience with the Wit is meaningful and fleshed out and a part of who he is, and the resonance with a queer experience improves the experience of the book without leaving me feeling baited, or pandered to, or kind of hollow.

Obviously I don't think this is an experience that everyone can or should have when encountering the book, but for me, it fucking hit. I'm glad I did this book to myself, am looking forward to throwing myself into a 16 book hole.

Can I ask how do you deal with hurtful comments on your fanfics from someone you consider a friend? Like I know if some stranger send hurtful comments it felt bad but damn when someone you know said the same thing it felt worse. Early this year I was kicked out and blocked from an animanga lover group when they find out that I wrote mlm fanfics from major shounen series (naruto,bnha, aot, jjk). This what they said :

“I'm convinced you must have never had friends before because all of these relationships are perfect depictions of what PLATONIC friendship is. If you want a gay story support ACTUAL gay couples like in BL & GL manga. Do you know how frustrating it is to see people move mountains for a non canon ship that’ll never happen then ignore actual gay manga’s and anime’s in BL & GL anime/manga...."

What do you think? Even until now, I'm still feeling a bit guilty for liking non canon mlm and wlw ships from shounen series. But when I found your blog and read your posts, I felt way better. Especially that answer of yours to anon who asked is it weird to love mlm& wlw more than wlm. Thanks for sharing your hard work (analysis, fanfics, arts, reviews).

Sorry for my rants and for my weird feelings.....

Ohhhh this is so precious please don't apologize for sending me this ask, I love feelings and hearing about other peoples' experiences with them and how my art/accounts have somehow been relatable because of that.

The peer pressure in fandoms is absolutely insane and convinces me that the social aspect works the same as any high school full of bullies. There WILL be mean girls, there WILL be cliques, and if you're a creator like me, you're going to be a MAGNET for like ten different types of them.

As for how I deal with hurtful comments, I was raised in an environment that constantly shamed me. I was controlled from all sides on what I could draw, write, and consume, so I'm used to being shunned by those who "love" me because of what I'm interested in! Because of this, the hate comments were what I EXPECTED going in and the positive comments were actually the things that threw me for loops. Hurtful comments only had the power to nag at me when I didn't have an audience (or friends) to bounce them off of so they wouldn't keep popping up as a "do I actually do this, though?" "am I actually bad for this?". But now they don't bother me; they give me the chance to either make a troll reply or spice up my friends' group chat for the day.

As far as a FRIEND leaving a hurtful comment??? I have so much sympathy for you. I am SO sorry they treated you that way.

When I make friends, I tell them openly what I do and to what extent. This way, I gather the type of people I want and push away those who don't. If they think it's not okay, they're silly.

Those friends who kicked you out of their little club? SILLY. They think they're so pure and moral for gatekeeping what can and can't be done with creativity and passion. They won't ever know what it feels like to live as freely as you do. In the end, their opinion is an opinion that is largely not shared by the logical, rational public. Any professional in the art/film/writing industry can tell you that much. How else are we supposed to make stories? Have a little IMAGINATION!! DAMN!

I'm saying a lot of this because it's the best thing to tell yourself when you read things that are clearly meant to make you feel shame when you haven't done a single thing wrong. Since this is Tumblr and I can ramble to my heart's content, maybe it'll help you if I also point out the specific tools that have been used in that message they sent you. Sometimes a good breakdown of tactics is all it takes to remind yourself you're not in the wrong.

"I'm convinced you must have never had friends before" AKA "you're so ignorant" - invalidating your experiences to crumble any foundation you might've had to stand on if you wanted to argue back. Starting off with this helps them cut you down so your self-esteem is lowered.

"these relationships are perfect depictions of what PLATONIC friendship is" - their opinion is being stated here as a fact, as if the entire world agrees with them and there's no other way to see it. First of all, this means NOTHING to the shipping world, since it exists largely to turn friendships into romances. Idk what they wanted to do with that one.

"If you want a gay story support ACTUAL gay couples like in BL & GL manga" - I'm not sure what kind of burn that is. SUPPORT ACTUAL GAY COUPLES LIKE THE REST OF US!! Okay snuffledumpkins. Guess nobody taught them how to MULTITASK!!! GUESS WHAT? I CAN SUPPORT ACTUAL GAY COUPLES *AND* NON-CANON GAY COUPLES, FREAK! WHAT NOW, HUH??? Being serious though, this is an attempt to define for YOU what ''''''true gay couples'''''' are (ACCORDING TO THEM), when this is an entirely fluid meaning and can be applied to whomever you'd like in fiction. SO many thoughts. It’s the foundational ship for this fandom ofc.

Firstly, let me establish that I am a Germany-is-HRE truther. Everyone knows that EXCEPT Lutz himself but they all just kind of agree to not mention it. So Feli KNOWS that the boy he love(s/d) is RIGHT. THERE. But he can’t say anything to suggest they’re the same person because to Lutz, that’s a different nation who died, and Feli doesn’t want to confuse or upset him. But Lutz does love him, and not just because of any lingering memories from before!!! He fell in love with Feli completely on his own, and he would fall in love with him over and over again. AUGH. Once they both get their heads out of their asses and express their feelings for each other, FELI is actually the one who takes it slow because he’s afraid of making Lutz feel like he’s just a stand-in for HRE. Feli doesn’t want to jump right to “established relationship” because even though that’s how it kind of feels for him, that’s not how it feels for Lutz. So they take it slow <3 first dates, flowers, first kisses… augh.

Anyways enough with the amnesia agony. THE AGE GAP!!!! Lutz, in his experience, is only about 150 years old. But Feli has been around for over 1300 years. Cradle robber smh. It just cracks me up. And Feli forgets sometimes that Ludwig doesn’t remember anything before the 1870s so he’ll offhandedly mention something that happened hundreds of years ago as if everyone knows it, and Lutz is just like ??? I have no fucking clue what you’re talking about. So even though Lutz often thinks that he’s the more “mature” one, Feli will make some joke about Byzantine Empire being bad in bed and Lutz suddenly feels very, very young. Feli often has to explain in-jokes between all the older nations to him or provide an INSANE amount of context for a simple passing comment. Lana del ray wants what they have.

Ok enough background. Let’s get to the headcanons

Their first dates were very simple <3 Museums, restaurants, art galleries, etc. Feli loves taking Lutz to art galleries and explaining the artworks and their historical backgrounds in vivid detail, and Lutz could listen to Feli talk passionately about art and architecture all day <333 Really I think he just likes the sound of his voice, his musical accent and animated speech. Every once in a rare while Feli will sing, maybe just a couple lines to a song, and Lutz fucking MELTS. They stopped going to restaurants after their first few dates after Lutz was like. Actually. Your cooking is way better and I like helping you in the kitchen. So let’s just do that instead. <3 Realistically a lot of their dates are things they were doing before they were a couple, just in a different light.

Feli taught Lutz how to relax <3 lounging in bed all day, curling up on the sofa with a cup of cocoa and a good book, just enjoying life without worrying about deadlines and routines. Although I don’t think Lutz will ever be able to sleep in the same way Feli can, they absolutely spend Saturday mornings in bed until midday, just tangled up in each other with not a care in the world <3

Conversely, Lutz taught Feli the joys of physical activity besides the walk from the sofa to the fridge lol. Hikes, bike rides, anything that gets them outside and moving. Feli has never been super outdoorsy or active, but breathing in crisp Alpine air and being surrounded by trees older than him is incredible. And he’s enjoying it with the man he loves <3

Meals! Entrées are Italian, desserts are German. Feli never acquired a taste for German food but goddamn that man can make a pie like nobody else. Feli is a lot more passionate about cooking (and Lutz can’t be trusted in front of a stove) but Lutz is happy to help chop vegetables or stir a pot of sauce. The one time they switched roles, Feli was stuck eating some sad, burnt to all hell potato and beef thing, and Lutz learned that he really hates tiramisu. This is not a condemnation of German food, they have some bangers, Lutz is just a bad cook lol.

They do indeed fight and argue like every other couple. Feli tends to be messy, leaving laundry all over the place and not cleaning up his dishes, whereas Lutz is neurotic about cleanliness and goes INSANE trying to convince Feli to just. Put his laundry in the fucking basket. Feli gets mad because sometimes Lutz will treat him like he’s incompetent or just outright stupid. Like there’s a reason he’s still alive and thriving after all this time. Get fucked mate. Ultimately their fights often come down to Feli being inconsiderate and Lutz being condescending.

They’re both fucking obsessed with how the other looks. Lutz is all strength and muscle and Feli wants to bite down on his forearms like a chew toy, and Lutz will never get enough of how Feli’s little waist feels in his hands or having those long legs wrapped around his hips. Also Ludwig is often like:

So like,why do you ship Laios and Chillchuck? This isn't anon hate it's just a ship i never really thought about and now I'm curios and I like hearing people rant about their blorbos

for many reasons! but let's start at the beginning, shall we?

i didn't know dungeon meshi existed until early february. i'd seen some media for it in the past, but didn't know any of it was related nor was i interested enough to dig further.

the very first fanart i ever saw for dungeon meshi was this one (it was on a different site though):

i didn't know who the characters were, but the dynamic spoke to me. it reminded me of two of my partner's OCs that we've been shipping together for nearly ten years: a big buff blonde guy who loves animals and seems stupid but is just socially stunted, and a short aggressive rogue with reddish hair and brown eyes who doesn't take other people's shit and is damn good at what he does. yes, it's that specific. these are them:

even without that foundation to work on, though, chilaios interested me. i love size differences and i love ships between nice guys and angry guys. that said, i mostly put it out of mind after nick's first fanart, but it posted some more not too long later which got me thinking about it again...

and by then more people were talking about dunmeshi because the anime was getting underway. i spotted chilchuck and laios in posts about the series and realized that was where they were from, and that there was an anime, as well as a manga. that was all i knew, but their dynamic was intriguing me more and more, so i told my partner about it and said chilchuck and laios reminded me of harry and jeffrey and showed him some of the fanart. neither of us tend to start new media very often (i'm significantly worse about it, it takes a lot to get me to try), but eventually i looked into the series and found that the anime was brand new (5 episodes at the time) and the manga was completed. both of those facts were ideal for trying to get into it.

we didn't start watching until the week episode 9 came out, not for lack of interest but because there just wasn't really any incentive to get a move on. by then we'd both recognized that we'd be insane about chilchuck in particular, because we love his character type and he's very, very cute. and we were right! you could practically hear the canned audience applause when he showed up onscreen the first time.

we didn't watch all 8 episodes in one sitting, but we did watch several of them, and i think it was clear to us both that chilchuck and laios absolutely had a fun dynamic. eventually we'd go on to read the entire manga, and we're fully caught up on the anime, watching the new episodes every thursday.

the basic thing i like about their sort of setup is the way laios respects chilchuck and never doubts their relationship, while chilchuck is frequently aggressive and critical but staunchly sticks around and keeps helping anyway. it says a lot about them as friends: laios isn't worried that chilchuck actually hates him, and chilchuck's actions speak louder than his words, always staying and doing the best he can even if he complains. he wants what's best for laios, even if he never says it, and laios trusts him completely.

i love that chilchuck cares even if he pretends he doesn't, and i love that laios has utmost faith in him. i love the little intricacies of their individual backstories and the ways they compare and contrast. i love the way their personalities collide, independent of their existing relationship (as in, i'd ship them even if they interacted less). i love their size difference. i love them individually, as really well-written and fascinating characters, and i love thinking of new ways to pair them together and seeing what everyone else does with them. i love chilaios!!!! it makes me very happy and they are a perfect ship for me.

look at that. goddamn. the way the shot lingers. the way laios grips his hand. 10/10 effervescent would ship again

Bengal & Lynx

Ch. 1

"Kyo, I think this final is gonna drive me insane." Lennox says to her cat, who looked at them and then just bit their laptop. "I know, you don't like it either." Lennox says as they get their phone out for a picture. They quickly took to Insta, but just shook their head.

Jason was right only 3 more days until Kyo and them were on a plane to Gotham City, New Jersey. They couldn't wait. Last time they had seen Jay, he hadn't died. When he did die, Bruce hadn't known what to do with Lennox so he shipped them off to boarding school in London, England. Yeah, that hadn't been a fun time for anyone. Dick had reached out several times, but it had turned into more of an annoyance than a help.

And when Jay did return to the land of the living, and re-joined the family, Lennox had also changed. They had always been able to see shades and ghosts, but when they moved to London, it had gotten worse, and this side of the pond the best person they could call was John Constantine. That had been a fun phone call.

"No way kid, I am not teaching you magic, I didn't even teach your brother, I ain't teaching you." John had said on the phone, but then they'd replied with; "Uncle Johnny, please, I keep seeing shit in the teacher's lounges. I need help." Who knew Johnathon Constantine, Hellblazer, Laughing Magician, Conman had a weak spot for kids who had supernatural gifts.

Lennox shook their head, thinking about the past was not going to help them study for their last final, or help them pack for summer. Luckily they didn't have to pack up the whole flat, Bruce had bought it for them. Nah, they were just heading to Gotham for the summer, before they came back for their senior year of college. Sure they were graduating early, but they had a plan for after school. They we're gonna help run the Bengel & Lynx foundation, a subject of the Martha Wayne Foundation that helped impoverished areas get help for local theatres and libraries. It's why they were triple majoring in Theatre, English, and business, while also minoring in art and history. Or They will once they pass these finals then two more semesters.

Lennox was checking everything to make sure they had everything. Kyo was already in his little bag ready for the flight. He was so cute and ready. They took a picture. They couldn't help it, their Instagram page was practically dedicated to Kyo, at this point they really should just make it his page, but then all the press would get uppity. The only bad thing about having Wayne attached to Pierce was the press.

Lennox laughed. They had met Steph when she, Duke, and Cas had come over to London with Tim on a business trip. Or at least that was the official public story. The real reason was Spoiler, Orphan, and Signal had a joint case. It was still a fun trip where Lennox had gotten to meet their older sister and younger brother and pseudo sister.

Lennox took a cab to the airport, just because their family had money doesn't mean they needed to use the private jet. As soon as they were through security and on the plane, they could finally relax. They pulled out an old warn copy of Treasure Island, a comfort story.

Lennox liked Jay's, duke's and Tim's tweets as they picked up their bags, and looked around for Jason. They heard a loud engine and saw a pretty badass bike show up. They driver skided into park, got off and held up a sign. Lennox couldn't help but cackle as they read it. In Jason's chicken scratch blown up were the word's "Welcome Home, Lynx!" They loved and missed their twin so much. They couldn't help it when they ran into his arms. "Bengal!" They shrieked as hepicked them up, careful of Kyo, and spun them around. "I missed you so much, Lynx." He whispers as the two just stand in one another's presence. "By the way, do you know how to ride a bike?" Jay asks, grabbing their bags. They chuckle. How aware do you think the kids are of their father, uncles and aunt’s childhood? I can see both it being an unspoken thing, but then a drunk Rhys or Arthur occasionally letting something slip. And would they ever talk about their mother?

I think stories from what Arthur considers his halycon childhood between the 1st and 4th century C.E have slipped through. Even with the Roman invasion and the displacements it caused and Boudicca's revolt that literally scorched themselves into a layer of ash still visible today in English archaeology, he remembers being relatively protected and high status both in the Roman world and in the British. Britain under the Roman empire wasn't the most important place in the empire but there were a lot of natural resources the British exploited, and conflict along the borders of northern England and southern Scotland made and unmade several emperors, with at least one being crowned in England iirc. Eirian was forced to negotiate with Lucius (a tentative name for Rome) about Rhys and Arthur but she did keep all four of them close. So Arthur remembers her and references her most when doing human activities done even in a modified sense, since the dawn of time. Things like spinning weaving and ship building he learned at her hand even if his memories of that are kind of bundled into Brighid too. The first apple crop after the Romans introduced them to England, the emptying of the beehives for winter storage, being taught to draw his bow against his cheek and shoot straight. Being scolded for running off without his cloak because he was a high energy ambitious little shit who never thought things through. Those things and the mentions or her make it into his children's lives.

They're less aware of who Eirian was as a person because Arthur especially looks at his earliest years under her guiding hand with rose coloured glasses so thick he's looking at anything pre 500s like this. But they are aware of her existence.

He leaves out the headhunting or maybe not really human sacrifice (the mine level amount of salt I have with the popular interpretation of Lindow man is kind of insane.) He leaves out executions and exile, torture and terror. Eirian loved her children in the way Boudicca did. The kind of love that leaves scorch marks in the earth for millennia. Her death was 1000 years before any of Alfred's generation came into being but considering that craters leave marks millions of years later, she's a presence.

It is a lot of So much of what we consider "Celtic" today is a result of the Celtic revival of the 19th century. Most profoundly in Ireland, but also to a fairly wide extent in Scotland, Wales and surprisingly for me who studied the lionization of the Anglo-Saxons by the British empire, England as well. So Eirian was a shadowy but present figure. The diaspora in the U.S. Canada, Australia and NZ often being referred too as Anglo-celtic gives me brain rot. This perception of her as viewed by children, particularly Arthur, something still concrete and visible. A lot of who Eirian was surrounded this lot as they're growing up. Just in Arthur's Manor house I think there are post holes from roundhouses, reused Romano-British masonry in the first floor, Viking age bodies in the back garden. At least one statue of her that either survived when the anglos saxons reused old Roman and British villas or that was uncovered in church foundations or even an actual pig sty (this actually happens) is around the house.

Also... There's one headcanon I've had for a very long time where he always waits for them to wake up and start breathing again if it happens around him. Sitting vigil through a long night, turning the other way when Matt outright leaves to go check on Alfred and watching him carefully for answers when he returns. He searched Matt's face for what news, what despair, what relief marked his expression when he returned from tugging Alfred's corpse from the piles of dead at Antietam. And that, I think, stems from Brittania's death. When the sun went dark in the sky and pestilence followed hot on the heels of famine and their mother did not wake. Not that last time however it happened. And that may be burned into their perception of their own deaths.

Tldr: God I'm never going to recover from the brain rot that one asinine piece of dialogue from the dub gave me.

So, uh, I don't think my opinion of it lies within 'i do/don't ship it' tbh! I DO ship it but in a 'let's watch this unfold like a car wreck' way and not a 'i want them to live happily ever after' way. But it's NOT a hateship thing. I REALLY DON'T HATE IT! I just think they're very "I can make them worse". I'll try to take this ask really seriously, as much as i know we meme about it in server shenanigans. Under cut bc I am a wordy individual.

Ok, so i'll just answer every part of the ask for this. side note that i get PERSONALLY icked out by shipping canon ten year olds at ten, so this is answering like, for ten years in the future. None of my opinions here are for the canon pokeani timeline because, uh, not my thing. I do not care to know what ten year olds are doing with their romantic lives. Love pokeani as a foundation for ship stuff but i don't work within the canon timeline for shipping. They're ten. they should be learning about photosynthesis or george washington or some shit.

Ship It

What made you ship it?

Again. It's the watching a car wreck in progress thing. I appreciate drama and mess and chaos and I FULLY think these two would bring that. It's kind of giving 'coordinating pr relationship' honestly. Don't think it would be that but the energy is there. I like ships that give me interesting stuff to work with, and with these two you've got two of the most interesting/messy personalities in Hoenn to mix like a live wire in a puddle of water, or kerosene and a faulty lighter. It's just INTERESTING and has a lot of potential to explore things like jealousy, longing, feelings of inadequacy, insecurity, settling, something doomed from the start, etc. again, not in a hate way. I do not say this because I prefer contest- not at ALL. I genuinely think, separately of any other biases, that they're just perfect to explore in a more messy context, especially if we want to factor in coordinating fame bullshit.

What are your favorite things about the ship?

Chaos aside, I do think they'd bring out different sides of each other that we don't see much of. They're both very... two-sided, not in a bad way, whereas characters like May tend to be pretty May no matter what. May's just herself all the time kind of, but Drew and Brianna act differently around different people.

Brianna, super soft and anxious and reverent around Drew as opposed to her insane competitive streak and go-getter mentality with May. Drew, kind of quiet and, uh, shockingly normal and polite around Brianna. It's genuinely interesting to contrast and mess with those sides of them and how they shift.

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

I think entertaining this ship in any capacity counts as an unpopular opinion tbh DNKsfjhkjHKJDFHJ

Why don’t you ship it?

They would make each other and everyone around them SO much worse /positive. I ship and do not ship it for the exact same reason. I ship it the way one would ship hazardous materials. My contest bias plays very little into this tbh, I just cannot see them making it long term at all. It's giving 'summer fling but in a flinging themselves into therapy' way.

What would have made you like it?

Answering this one really genuinely- I think if Brianna had decided to become Drew's direct rival instead of May's, opting to get involved that way. It would have made more sense. Since in canon Brianna knows Drew likes May, I don't see how beating May would make Drew like Brianna more? I don't see her logic there honestly. But if Brianna saw that Drew had a thing for his rival and decided she could be his rival, too, that could have been more interesting than 'let me beat up this chick he likes' if nothing else.

I think it would have been super interesting to see Drew with another rival (Harley counts but like, not in this context). We could have compared and contrasted the dynamics in the rivalries more instead of it just being this:

Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?

Answering this one as intended as well. I think, assuming I had to look at it in a traditional happy ship way, I like the subversion of it. I think it would be great to give Brianna more of a focus in general. She's a FUN character with two very opposite sides to her and I'd have loved to see that personality shine more, minus the Spontaneous Combusken of it all /affectionate. Love that episode. It's a fucking mess. But yeah- I like it because it would give us more Brianna. She's FUN. Unhinged, absolutely, but fun.

TWO FINAL NOTES:

1.) Kind of way fucking funnier if Drew/Brianna/May goes the mako/korrasami route though, ngl lmfao.

2.) My opinion on them regarding the sims (iykyk) is that I need to kill that sentient wishing well. by the way.

i wanna ask you more, i like getting your mini ted talks. what are your thoughts on sylar/peter as a ship? i personally don’t really see it in the show, but i’ve read some real good fics with them.

Soooo. Maybe the girlies will hate me for this one lol. Thing is, I can see how sylar/peter would lend itself to having some good fics written about it. Like, the concept is there, it has potential. The foundations for a good hero/villain ship are there, they are definitely set up as foils and parallels to each other, they have the whole ‘two sides of a coin’ thing going on. But like you, I don’t really see it in the show at all. It’s like they had the potential but didn’t actually execute it/make me give a fuck about it/make me remotely want to ship it, lol.

It is/was a popular ship in heroes fandom (lol heroes fandom in 2024 is like 12 people but hey) and I do see why for the above reasons. I actually think the episode ‘the wall’ is a great concept but again, they don’t sell me on it/execute it well/actually follow through on making me remotely believe they’d become friends by the end. Right before they break out, having spent what was apparently like 10 years of mind-time together in there or whatever, Peter still hates his guts and wants to smash his head in with a sledgehammer lmao?? (I mean girl same. The whole ‘peter has to forgive sylar, narratively and kind of literally, if he wants to escape the mind prison’ plot point grinds my gears. I think he should get to never forgive him ever for killing Nathan if he doesn’t want to lmao. Shout out to that one fan panel with Milo where he’s like ‘peter would never forgive him he would eviscerate him’ king you are speaking my fucking language lol. I digress.) like afterwards I can buy that sylar has latched onto Peter and wants to be his friend/wants Peter to like, model being a good person for him, but not that Peter actually gives a shit in return or wants anything to do with him lol

(Sidenote, that in itself is a rly interesting concept, and me and @buildarocketboys developed a fic idea about peter agreeing to like, ‘mentor’ sylar and hang out with him but if and only if he kept shapeshifting back into Nathan for him. Now THAT is fucked up and deranged and the good stuff and actually makes me, avowed sylar disliker, feel kinda sorry for the guy lol. Yessss let me marinate in the badwrongness of all of that and how Peter is the one acting fully insane. Anyway. I digress once more.)

Anyway I’m clearly also biased bc I used to like sylar as a character back in the day but sometime over my like 4 rewatches over the last few years he really started pissing me off lol. Now it’s not like I’m being an anti about him being an evil villain or anything, I love a problematic king and I’m a Nathan stan lmao. In fact I only really enjoy sylar when he is getting to be a proper fun cackling all-out villain, he’s actually enjoyable and funny in that mode. It’s the like 9 flip-flopped badly written redemption arcs they keep trying to give him like they’re trying to make me feel sorry for him bc his dad sold him to one direction or whatever, but sorry!! I feel nothing! He’s a whiny bitch and they should have just let him be killed off one of the first 900 times it nearly happened! I don’t have any sympathy and he’s completely lost me lol. So yeah. That does make me biased plus being a Petrellicest girlie and a Nathan stan and an Elle stan sorry I selfishly won’t forgive him for killing them 😔 poor baby serial killer I’m being such a mean hater. Well. All that to say that I see why people ship it, it has interesting foundations that could have led to something good but IMO it just didn’t, I can definitely imagine it has some good fic out there that can sell you on it, but I just don’t see their great poetic love or whatever. 59,778 because I can only write/finish very very very short stories.

3. what fandoms do you write for?

Currently? Detective Conan/Magic Kaito, but I've written for boku no hero academia, young justice (cartoon), tsubasa: reservoir chronicle, pokemon (anime), mcu, kuroshitsuji, d.gray-man, criminal minds, and alex rider.

4. what are your top 5 fics by kudos?

pour me a glass of vermouth { shaken and very stirred }. a detective conan/magic kaito fic that i dreamt, woke up, and wrote at 3am. it's shinichi realising that kaito (his boyfriend) is family with an assassin that he's had to fight against.

insanity { when life weighs down too hard on your shoulders and you can't close your eyes in fear for the demons. } a criminal minds fic that i wrote initially for a friend on tumblr that's luke x spencer.

disguises ( you're not as hidden as you think ). a detective conan/magic kaito fic that i honestly want to delete because it's not good but i also don't believe in deleting fics, so...

five times robin's acting skills were amazing yet terrifying. a young justice (cartoon) story where... well, exactly what it says on the tin. it was written due to the young justice prompt meme challenges or whatever back in 2012.

fantasy ( we're apart despite longing. ) a detective conan/magic kaito fic and probably the one i'm most proud of of the top five. it was initially a one-shot that i wrote for a friend on tumblr, turned into a series, and i still need to write the third one and it's been 5 years, oops.

i didn't add hyperlinks because i don't think anyone that i follow/follows me is a detective conan fan looool

5. do you respond to comments?

yeah, usually. sometimes i don't like to because it inflates the comments number, but also, i don't get many, so i don't think that really matters.

a detective conan/magic kaito drabble where kaito dies before the story even begins and conan receives his death letters. i honestly want to rewrite it though because i feel like i have a better understanding of both characters now.

7. what's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

home ( is sometimes not where the heart is but where memories lie and cannot seem to die ), a tsubasa: reservoir chronicle fanfic where tsubasa grows some measure of acceptance of himself and embraces himself a little bit more.

no. that usually requires people to get hits, and i don't usually, lol.

9. do you write smut? If so, what kind?

i did and then deleted it all.

yeah.

yes! @greenfiredragonfly and i wrote grandpappy together back in 2013. it's a kuroshitsuji crack fic. (not that you know this blog of mine, heyyyyy).

i can't choose, i have too many.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you will?

hawk's eye, an alex rider and detective conan/magic kaito crossover that was based on a series of fanfics written by dblanc that they have graciously allowed me to write. i just suck at coming up with plots (i'm mainly a character-driven/analysis writer), so i'm just stuck on that.

16. What are your writing strengths?

personally, i'd say character-driven angst. i've been told that i'm quite good at writing different characters and given them their own cadence and tone that makes them sound like them despite the numerous fandoms i write across.

this is a review from a specific friend (who is really talking about my roleplaying that i do).

um. this is based entirely on my experience of writing with you but i think you're really good at setting up scenes. like laying the foundation for any interaction so the other person always has something to build on. i think your writing is also pretty evocative in the sense that if your muse is feeling something strongly, you convey it really well in a way that moves the reader. i think you interweave introspection in between dialogue and narration really well too, bc when you switch to a character's inner monologue it always blends smoothly and there's always a good flow to your writing.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

i do it when it makes sense to, and then i add translations for it. however, sometimes i don't want to do the research and i just go "i want some bread," he said in french.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

if you count my really really shitty fanfics when i couldn't spell when i was seven, harry potter. on ao3, it's kuroshitsuji.

20. Favourite fic you've written?

even though it's a wip that i probably will never finished, i really like hawk's eye. also, i'm proud of both of my tsubasa: reservoir chronicle fanfics.
