things I really appreciate about hermitcraft:

I love that the hermits clubbed together to buy tfc a new pc and monitor in 2020, with a massive screen aimed at combatting his migraines and motion sickness

I love that cubfan has Joe Hills twitch emotes as part of his collection. Joe won't sign a twitch contract and can't have his own emotes, so cub just made some for his subscribers to play with on Joe's streams

I love that Keralis keeps sending computer mice and other gear to the other hermits whenever they mention computer problems (because when you own a hardware company, why wouldn't you be your friends' sugar daddy)

I love that Joe has mentioned that grian will resource gather for other hermits off camera in his free time, just because he can

I love that when iskall talked about his hermitcraft downtime, he said that none of the others tried to force him to make a video, they all just popped in and out, offering his various projects they were working on to see if he wanted to join in

I love that the hermits always have lots of advice for each other - whether it be parenting advice for doc, or just in having worked with mumbo since he was 17 and in sixth form college, of talking about tfc's wisdom (and sometimes we even get to learn about tango's washing machine and international taxes)

I love that hermits will take on infrastructure projects, like netherhubs and railways and roads and enderfarms

I love hermits helping hermits

I love stream weekends

I love that some hermits are dedicated enough to neglect their own bases and spend weeks helping out a friend - particularly Cleo, moving into stress' season six castle and Scarland and more to build diorama after diorama.

I love the dedication that the hermits have, and I appreciate how hard they worked for the king arc, the crossover, and the charity stream.

I love the strength of the community when a charity stream comes around.

I love that hermits will rush across the server or panic log in when someone needs help - killing doc's escaped withers, collecting gear, clearing lava after a tactical log out, turning off farms

I love that they offer each other building advice and redstone help (even if it is just scar and iskall being judgy about block choice)

I love scar's first reaction to ever seeing grian in person was 'you're drowning in fans at this convention, I wish I could help you, but we don't know each other yet'

I love Hypno and Joe singing karaoke at minecon in 2012

I love that they do make a wish hermitcraft guests and hermits who can help will be there

I love shared farms and shared resources, and a hermit flying in unprompted to drop off a shulker of that thing you mentioned you needed for no charge

grian and jimmy are half brothers. watcher something or the other i don't really care i just think their dynamic is super funny

i'm stealing the "boogeyman is an intense game of tag" and making it more of a cheese touch thing

team ties are all in advanced math. except for skizz, who after immediately getting tagged by both scott and bdubs, was put under the protection of them. impulse holds a goddamn grudge, and no eleven year old is willing to test his patience

martyn and scott were those two friends in the friend group that never interacted as much as they interacted with others, but now that ren's moved schools and jimmy's migrated friend groups, they're suddenly best friends?? they team up with the clockers and occasionally taunt jimmy, trying to win him back

pearl and bigb are definitely tree climbers, pearl brings eight wings of fire books into the tree with her every day and bigb consistently watches in astonishment as she climbs the tree with one hand

- 25k goal being broken by the Australians even before the event started, and the jokes about ending the stream there and seeing them next year

- Getting Martyn to do the donation readouts is GENIUS. He makes it actually entertaining to listen to!

- The bell bringing back Techno money bell memories

- Basalt Assault being broken by too much boomification (as predicted by Bdubs)

New group nicknames!!!

I’m making a little fanfic when the Hermits (bar Xisuma for reasons) end up in the Life Series. I’ve tried to make new groups mostly to test out new dynamics and I’ve tried to give those groups names either made by other members or what fans would call them. Here you go:

Iskall, Stress and Etho — The Vaulters — Because having Iskall and Stress taught Etho Vault Hunters before, Etho is now teaching Iskall and Stress the Life Series.

Zed and Tango — A.S.S — Because the gimmick of the season they’re in in the fanfic is that each member has a power given to them, which is easier to do in a fanfic than in actual Minecraft. And I of course gave Zedaph the ability to make sheep levitate. Tango is along for the ride, trying to land in rivers after he hits build height on Flossy the third.

Beef and Skizz — Big Salmon — Because they moved over from Hermitcraft in the fanfic, they’re keeping the rivalries from the server and Beef wants to use the chance of a Life Series to mess with Doc.

Jevin and Gem — Slimestone — This name was coined by Skizz. He calls Gem, Gemstone. With that it’s just a simple portmanteau.

BDubs and Joel — BDubs and the Beanstalk — Joel’s power is that he’s 11ft tall. This name was also coined by Skizz and subsequently adopted by fans.

Ren, False, Hypno and Grian — Hearts, Arts, Smarts and… Farts. Or “HAS Farts” for short — Coined by Skizz, Ren said they were a pretty ragtag group and Skizz said, “You’ve got Heart” looking at Ren, “Martial Arts” looking at False, “Smarts” looking at Hypno, “and… Farts.” looking at Grian. Fans took that moment at they became “HAS Farts”.

Wels, Joe and Cleo — Soldier, Poet, King — The fans made this one up entirely. Joe and Cleo understand the reference and Wels is a bit confused by it.

XB, Keralis, Scar and Impulse — The Farmers — Definitely my least imaginative name, but three of them have powers related to farming in some way and Impulse is a Farmer type hermit in the HCTCG.

Doc and Mumbo — Shrek and Fiona — Doc just wants to work in his swamp and Mumbo goes to live with him. They get into nitty gritty Redstone together whilst trying to ignore Beef and Skizz.

Pearl and Cub — The Powvestigators — They go around trying to help people who haven’t figured out their powers yet, figure out what powers they have. Investigating powers, thus, Powvestigators. In doing so they also try to find out people’s weaknesses for their own gain under the guise of trying to help.

What do you think of these groupings and team names? Do you have any better suggestions? I’m all ears, the only one I will not budge on is HAS Farts. That group name is comedy gold.

Scar inhaled, relaxing his shoulders for a second. He then steeled himself and began the trek to Doc’s base. When he got there, he found the mad scientist eating a bucket of popcorn.

“Hiya, Doc!” Scar said. “I’m glad you’re enduring the merchandise.”

“It’s a consolation prize,” Doc said. “Do you know how loud your park is?”

“It’s all part of the charm,” Scar said.

“You say charm, I say noise,” Doc said. “Is this about the polls?”

“Oh, yeah,” Scar said. “I just wanted to make sure there are no hard feelings and no creepers, none of that really. Especially about the bracket.”

“Do I scare you?” Doc asked playfully.

“No, no!” Scar said. “You just create a sense of foreboding.”

“Thank you,” Doc said. “I try very hard.”

“I guess it’s not easy being green, huh?” Scar asked.

Doc stared blankly.

“Gotcha!” Scar said. He shot off into the air, flying away before Doc could shoot him with an arrow.

Etho loitered by rock outside Mumbo’s vault, watching the slimes hop around aimlessly.

“How did all these get here?” Etho asked to no one in particular. “I thought the slime farm didn’t work.”

He walked towards the opened vault door and peered inside. As he descended, he heard the low growls of the zombies that had colonized the building. Etho groaned in annoyance, pulling out some torches to light up the staircase.

“This is what happens when you don’t upload regularly, Mumbo,” Etho said. He reached the bottom, where Slimecicle had left a trail of carnage. In the center of the room the challenger had left a mess of signs, many of which could not be safely read in a video (except maybe by Cleo).

“Now, what are we supposed to do?” Etho asked.

“It’s quite simple, really.”

Wilbur heard his door rattling again.

“Joe, I told you already! I don’t want a shulker full of blue dye!” The door kept rattling. “Fine,” Wilbur said. He opened the door reluctantly, but was thrown to the side when the door fell off its hinges and BDubs sprinted in. The mossy man scrambled around, hastily replacing the door.

“You’ve gotta help me!” BDubs shouted.

“What’s going on?” Wilbur asked.

“It’s Cleo! She’s crazy!” BDubs said.

“I’m sorry, you’re on the run from ZombieCleo?” Wilbur asked.

“Yeah! It’s the Sexyman bracket! She’s out to get me!” BDubs said.

“I’m pretty sure they know it’s a joke,” Wilbur said. “I mean, no one’s taking it that seriously.”

“You’ve never had to deal with Cleo when they have a reason to get you,” BDubs said. “I’m not safe anywhere, man.”

“So why would you come here? I don’t want to be involved in this!” Wilbur protested.

“I can’t go anywhere Cleo can find me! Please!” BDubs begged.

Wilbur heard another knock on the door.

“Oi, Wilbur Soot?” They both heard Cleo say. “I hear you’ve got a friend of mine. I’ve got to tell him something.”

Joe swept the sand out of his eyes as he approached the city. Checking his map again, he confirmed that he was headed towards the right place, and then he continued to the central plaza.

When he got there, Quackity was sharpening a sword.

“Howdy, Quackity!” Joe said. “It’s great to meet you. Your fans were pretty generous last round.”

“They’ve learned their lessons well. Everything’s a business deal,” Quackity said. “Even this.”

“Well, I don’t really agree with that,” Joe said. “I mean, it’s great if everyone involved can financially benefit from something, but sometimes you just have to do it for the art of the thing, and I think that’s a personal choice you should be able to make.”

“That is where you’re wrong, Joe Hills,” Quackity said. “You will taste my blade like so many of my enemies have before.”

“I usually bake my enemies cookies and then they stop being my enemies, but I guess that works too,” Joe said.

“The last time someone gave me a cookie it was after they asked me to kill a man,” Quackity said.

“Do you want to change that? I happen to have some on me,” Joe said.

The next thing Quackity knew, he and Joe were enjoying some of Scar’s Elven Cookies.

“…and the next thing I knew, there was a giant moon crashing into my house!” Joe finished.

Quackity laughed.

Cub is starting to feel like he isn’t a very popular person at the moment.

It’s odd. People give him wary looks, and step back when he steps closer, and politely end conversations with him. But everyone seems very hesitant to actually say anything about whatever it is that’s bothering them so much.

It's true that it is, on occasion, a little difficult to concentrate on what people are saying. His hearing has been a lot sharper recently, especially with the extensions of himself that he’s placed around the server to help spread the skulk. But unfortunately, given how widespread they are now, it has become quite difficult to concentrate on any specific sounds – even, on occasion, those being made right in front of him.

Still, even without any specifics, he’s been starting to get the feeling that he isn’t exactly… welcome, here.

He’d seen False, the other day, in Hermitopia. As far as he can tell, she’s appointed herself as protector of the hermits. He doesn’t think she’s consulted anyone else about this.

Not that he needs any protecting, obviously. Why would he? He can take care of himself.

But that… look that she’d given him. He’d almost turned around, at first, as though she might be looking at someone behind him.

There was no need for that, though. If there was someone behind him, he’d have heard them.

False, though. Back to False.

He’d never seen her look at him like that before. Not even in the worst moments of the Convex.

It was a calculating look. As though every moment, she was considering the best way to strike, and weighing it against the danger of overextending herself. The kind of look you might give an unnervingly powerful mob, perhaps. But one he'd never seen her give to Doc, or to Cleo. The kind of look you give to something other.

“Hey, False!” He called, and smiled.

Her eyes narrowed. “Hey Cub.” Her voice was controlled and level. “What’s up?”

“Oh not much, not much. Just the usual – spread the souls, spread the skulk, you know how it is.” He held out a few skulk catalysts. “Care to join me?”

“I… No. No, I’ve got- other plans, sorry.” She took a step back, but kept her eyes fixed on him. “Why don’t you… go do that, then.”

He shrugged. “Sure. Let me know if you change your mind.”

“I won’t.” It was harsh. Sharp. After a moment, she seemed to realise this. “I mean- fine. I’ll let you know.” It was less a peace offering to a friend than it was a deliberate concession to an enemy. He knows how to tell the difference.

“Good, good. That’s good to know.” Just because she’d decided she didn’t like him anymore for some reason, didn’t mean he had to follow suit.

She watched him from a distance, eyes like ice, until he left.

She watched him like a tightly wound spring, like a coiled snake.

But she did not strike.

So, yeah. That has been a little odd.

He thinks that if it weren’t for his newfound lease on life recently, that incident would have rattled him. So it’s a good job he doesn’t have to worry about that.

It still seemed worth investigating, though, if it made people less willing to embrace the skulk as they should.

So then, there was the incident with Xisuma.

This one, he thinks, was the most confusing of the lot.

There were some more looks – some from Jevin, Oli and Sausage as well – when they fought the withers together.

He was fairly confident that Xisuma wasn’t the biggest fan of the skulk. At least – he had been fairly confident.

But it wasn’t Cub who suggested trying to spread the skulk further in the End with a sweeping edge sword and some endermen.

And even after that, he’s pretty sure Xisuma’s been removing a fair amount of the skulk around Hermitopia.

There had been Impulse, too, unnerved and wary, asking Cub to dispose of parts of himself safely, rather than taking them and doing it himself.

And with all this came a growing… not discomfort. Why would he be uncomfortable? More a curiosity. How, after all, was he supposed to change their minds if he didn’t know their minds?

Joe- Joe was his friend, he had thought. Joe would get it.

And then he did.

It felt a little like missing a step, although to be fair that wasn’t necessarily uncommon in interactions with Joe.

He hinted, and Joe nodded and went along with it and was appropriately impressed.

Later, he was sold back the parts of himself that Joe had unearthed, both of them quite clear about where they had come from, and told that he could do whatever he liked with them as long as they didn’t end up back in Pix’s area.

He shouldn’t be surprised, really. Joe did tend to enjoy seeing where the chaos went. Why would he even want to intervene?

But then there are still sometimes those looks. When Cub is adding more skulk catalysts around Hermitopia, and Joe is quickly ducking in and out of the place because it’s not one hundred percent clear whether he's still an enemy of the state at this point or not.

When they’re doing that.

Sometimes Joe looks at him like he wouldn’t mind it if none of the Hermits told Cub when they left.

Sometimes, when he forgets himself a little, Cub wonders whether any of them would, anymore.

It seems like a double standard. There’s a perfectly reasonable explanation, he’s sure. He hasn’t found it yet, though.

Why, if he didn’t have the skulk to keep him company, he might even be feeling a little hurt lonely irritated.

It takes Xisuma replacing the entire floor of the tower for him to start to understand.

They say they hate it. Oh they say they hate it. Not out loud to him, most of the time, but they do. But they never get the roots.

They clear it away, and they leave the surface clean and new, or they leave it unrecognizably maimed by the scars they made themselves. Some of them even dig up the catalysts. But none of them get the roots, because Cub is still here, and so it will always come back.

None of them have even tried.

So that can’t hate it that much, can they?

They just don’t want it near them.

Well, he thinks.

Too bad.

He’s not very good at giving up.

- jingler: cub's persona, an undefeated supervillain, terrorizing the city for fun

- cub: scar's roommate, studied medicine but works retail, tired

- scar: cub's roommate, works at anything as anyone (barbie LOL) hence has money to support both him and cub, childhood best friend of mumbo and grian, extremely full of himself

- grian: a detective working on the case of the jingler, childhood best friend of mumbo and scar, crushes on bigb

- jangler: scar's hero persona, created for the sole purpose of fighting against the jingler, offers his help to grian (who in desperation, accepts)

- ren: in a day to day life he's the owner of the shop cub works at but has knowledge in spy gadgets, gets called for special jobs - currently working in espionage helping grain, has an unofficial thing going on with bigb

- doc: tech guy, met ren when he was tasked to create his prosthetic after an accident in the past, currently working in general tech helping grian, (later creates weapons for jangler to use)

- pearl: grian's boss, should've fired her on probably 5 different occasions

- iskall: villain (retired supervillain), currently focusing on robbery rather than causing chaos and violence

- mumbo: villain, iskall's sidekick, childhood best friend of scar and grian, was NOT made for the role of a villain but is scraping for money (rip), has no interest in harming anyone, he's just in for the cash

(they don't really go by any specific names and are rather seen as a complete duo of vault busters)

- stress: retired supervillain (who worked alongside iskall), currently living a peaceful life as an owner of a flower shop

- bigb: owner of a bakery, has an unofficial thing going on with ren, like the only genuine fan of the jangler

- false&jimmy: sheriffs (as in, police level) assigned the case of vault busters

(jimmy and lizzie are blood related and grian is their adopted sibling)

important events (act 1):

- scar and cub didn't know each other before living together. cub met scar one evening when the latter was going home after one of his many jobs, they briefly talked. scar spiked cub's interest as despite clear signs of a crime committed on his clothes were visible, scar didn't mention them at all. he later found out that scar was looking for a flatmate and offered himself.

- grian is overworked, not even close to revealing the identity nor capturing the jingler, without thinking too much about it she rambles about the case to scar whenever they meet for a friendly chat. that's when scar gets the idea to become the jangler ("someone would have to be insane enough to face jingler in combat") but not really because he cares about the greater good of the city - he sees it as an easy opportunity to get fame. [🟣][🟠]

- jangler would've easily lost to the jingler if it wasn't for the fact cub recognizes his roommate (it's painfully obvious really, he doesn't understand how no one else sees it, cartoon logic) and after some dodging he flees the battlefield leaving scar behind. for the first time, someone has survived a duel with the jingler.

- even though he never actually comes close to harming or even scathing the jingler, grian's new companion sparks fresh hope into her and the future of the case. her and her team of doc and ren start working on more complicated tech and weapons. (the success also makes grian not even consider scar to be the new hero. she greatly undermines his abilities).

- [ending of act 1]

jangler is awaiting the arrival of the jingler when the vault busters stumble upon him. past urges awaken in iskall as he senses a perfect opportunity to fight the only undefeated enemy of the jingler. long story short, they fight, mumbo messes up scar's face on accident (which leaves the left side of his face covered in burn scars), cub arrives and saves scar. [here's a fic of the scene written by our friend!]

character roles (act 2):

- cub: scar's boyfriend with no genuine feelings of love towards him, treats scar as his science project

- scar: cub's partner, borderline obsessed with him, craves all his attention

- grian: a detective throughout the first half of the act. after jangler leaves and ren dies, the case is in shambles; gets demoted to vault busters' case and false with jimmy take her place

- mother spore: grian's vigilante persona, created after her demotion and finding out the identities of jingler and jangler. decides to take matters in her own hands and forms the resistance

- joe: silly character with massive plot armor [best explained here], film uni student who wants to make a movie about jingler and jangler for their thesis, best friend of cleo

- cleo: film directing student at the same uni as joe, accompanies him in his observations and recordings, admires jingler's ability to unnoticeably lead a performance, best friend of joe

- stress: accidentally gets roped into grian's resistance, reveals her knowledge of heroes and villains

- mumbo: the wettest rag of a character, gets his leg chopped off by the jangler (😢), retires as a villain after that

- iskall: after mumbo gets injured he blames himself for it (it's the second time his companion suffers meanwhile he leaves unscathed) - he turns himself in

- jimmy: now working on the main case, convinced there's a thing between him and scar - scar however uses jimmy's infatuation to gather information that might help him and cub [🟠]

- bigb: ren's death takes a huge toll on him, grian gets closer to him

important events (act 2)

- after the fight with vault busters, cub saves scar and takes him to his hiding spot. he reveals his identity and offers scar to join him instead. cub tells scar how actually weak he is and that people don't consider him great. he also offers that beside him, he will get a taste of real fame.

- scar and cub burn the old outfit of the jangler together. it awakens scar's love for fire meanwhile cub showcases and offers the new suit - revealing his plan has been in the making for a while. [🔵]

"Scar treats being the Jangler as a performance. He doesn’t really treat all the atrocities he commits with the seriousness they should have."

- in the meantime while scar heals, jingler keeps on the down low but isn't restless. during one of his shifts cub messes up and while chatting with ren, mentions information about the latest doings of the jingler only classified people would have access to. he's forced to and murders ren.

- grian is the person to break the news to bigb. they become closer.

- scar makes sure to make his return and reveal a big thing. the jingler calls grian and doc to announce he's holding the jangler hostage. upon arrival, they reveal there's no hostage. scar only craved an audience. after this scene, grian loses the case.

- the jangler takes mumbo's leg just basically as a revenge. lol. he didn't want to kill him but wanted to make him never forget.

- joe becomes one of the victims of jingler and jangler. or better said, was supposed to. the guy doesn't seem to be able to die and after a while the duo becomes so fascinated by him they just let him live. he offers to make a film about them, thinking of them more of as actors than threat. cub out of curiosity and sheer ridiculousness agrees and scar considers what he's doing to be a performance anyways. (joe never finds out their identities though)

- scar and grian end up in an argument over jimmy and cub which results in scar revealing to be the jangler. he promises grian that he will kill her. you can read a fic of this scene here!

- after finding out about mumbo's injury iskall feels incredibly guilty and turns himself in. he's judged only for his present crimes and gets a community work sentence (grian figures out mumbo must've been the other vb member but stays quiet. how she isn't fired is anyone's guess).

- cub and scar go into hiding and grian decides to take matters into her own hands, directly this time. she forms the resistance and mother spore.

once again, a big fight, jingler and jangler are against the resistance (yet again)

this time the resistance comes out as victorious and the fight ends in cub getting gravely injured and scar turning himself in, considering it the better option than letting cub die.

- the main premise is basically that scar and cub end up in jail (losers). cub loses an eye after the fight with grian (both him and scar losing what matters more to each of them - cub utility and scar, appearance).

- scar doesn't cope well with being away from cub and not knowing his state

- they manage to escape but as i said, it's only a brief outline, no details on when and how yet

“Why do you talk to me?”

Joe didn’t move from where they were splayed out on the roof of the hotel, their brown hair fanning out, snow dancing on their breath. Their glasses were gathering snow as well, but they made no move to wipe them. “Why wouldn’t I?”

“Oh, don’t pull that, you know why,” Symmetry snapped, then winced at her own tone. “You’re… you’re friends with… her.”

“And?”

“You can’t be friends with her and me.”

“Why not?”

Symmetry let out a frustrated hiss. “Don’t pull this on me.”

Joe’s head finally turned slightly, their eyes landing softly on Symmetry’s. “I haven’t a clue what you mean.”

She bit back an irritated howl, turning away instead, pulling her knees up to her chest and hugging them. “You’re infuriating.”

“I’m sorry,” Joe said, simply, honestly. “Is there any way I could help?”

“Just… tell me,” She finally said, weakly. “Why do you talk to me?”

There was a pause, where they both lay there in silence, before she heard snow crunch, and Joe sat up. She still didn’t look at him, just glared at the complex below.

“Because you’re incredible,” Joe said. “Because you’re kind, and sweet, and I like you a lot. When I told my wife, Cleo, about you, they said… well… they said I should probably do something instead of just watching from a distance, but to be honest, I’m not sure I’d be able to stay away if I wanted to.”

Symmetry sucked in a breath, gripping her legs in her frigid fingers. “Yeah?”

“Yeah. I snuck onto this complex to see what evils were being kept at bay, and instead I found the kindest, most wonderful, most beautiful woman I’ve ever met,” Joe reached out, their freezing fingers brushing Symmetry’s cheek ever so softly as they brushed aside some of her hair, tucking it behind her ear. For a second, her eyes fluttered shut, and then the moment was gone. “You’re a miracle, Symmetry.”

“I’m not her, though.”

“Oh, I am very aware.”

She finally turned her head to look at them, and oh, what a sight. Their cheeks were flushed with cold, their mustache getting in their mouth, their hair slicked to their forehead. Snowflakes dotted their collar and shoulders and cheeks and- and lips, and she found her gaze lingering on those for just a bit too long.

Because, here’s the thing. Joe was beyond amazing. Joe was kind and sweet and the first person to recognize Symmetry as her own person, beyond her… sister? Beyond the other one. (God, it was ironic that the one named False was the real one.) But more than that, Joe was beautiful. Simple as that, they were stunning to look at.

She was ripped from that thought when Joe giggled, and abruptly she realized her eyes had been on their lips that whole time. She jolted, snapping her head to the side, staring at the horizon instead, her face flooding with an embarrassed heat.

“Sorry, I didn't mean to laugh,” Joe said, sheepishly. “... Symmetry?”

“I should go,” She said, in almost a whisper. “I'm sorry.”

“No, don't,” They plead. “I'm sorry, please stay.”

She sighs, pressing the heels of her palms to her eyes. “I… I can't.”

“Please?”

She turned to look at them again, and was taken aback by the look on their face, a look she wasn't sure she'd ever seen directed at her. They looked at her like she was everything, like a blind man seeing light, like a castaway finding land, like a starving man getting food.

They looked at her like they needed her.

She surged forward, almost as if possessed, all sense leaving her as she wrapped her arms around their neck and pressed her lips to theirs. The two of them collapsed backwards into the snow, but she didn't feel the cold.

For a moment, their lips moved against each other, closed, before Joe gently parted their lips, and she gladly took the invitation and slipped her tongue into their mouth.

They tasted like tea and honey, and she never wanted to taste anything again.

Their hand slid up, settling on her cheek, pulling her hair out of her eyes gently, and she pulled back for air, leaving them both panting.

Joe's pupils were blown wide, their lips parted, their cheeks flushed. They looked beyond incredible. And judging from the look on their face, they didn't mind how she looked either.

She leaned in again, pressing a gentle kiss to their cheek, before returning to their lips. They kissed so gently, and it made her want to sink her teeth in and devour them, to make them beg and whine and plead.

Before she got the chance though, she heard footsteps on the snow below. She jolted back, keeping low to the roof, one hand coming up to cover her mouth, the other staying firm on Joe's cheek. Slowly, she leaned over the edge, watching as Renbob slowly trailed her way down the path to the conference hall, her tail swishing absently behind her.

It was almost time for their afternoon session, she realized with a wince.

She turned back to Joe, and was almost surprised to see them staring at her, pupils still wide, lips swollen and red, and for a second, she amused the idea of just staying here, kissing them until the sun rose again, just existing like that forever.

But then she stopped, and took a deep breath of the freezing air, and rubbed her eyes, and sat up.

“I have to go,” She said, tiredly. “I’m sorry.”

“Will I-” Joe took a breath, although when they spoke again, they sounded no less breathless. “Will I see you tonight?”

“I don’t know,” She said, truthfully. “I don’t know if this is a good idea.”

“What? What do you mean?”

“I just… you’re married-”

“-She doesn’t mind-”

“- And I’m in villain rehab.” She finished.

“I don’t mind. Once you get out, I’ll be waiting for you.”

“Joe, you don’t get it,” She sighed. “I’m not getting out. I don’t know what they told you, but there’s no graduation. There’s no getting better. Me and the others… we’re monsters. That’s what we are. That’s not going to change.”

Joe gazed at her, their eyes so wide and trusting. “You’re not a monster, Symmetry.”

She scoffed. “I have to go.”

“Okay,” They said. “I love you.”

She froze, before she let out a shaky breath. “I… Thank you.”

“Of course,” They smiled. “Any time.”

She whirled around, marching to the fire escape, climbing down as fast as she could without appearing to be in a panic.

EX and Hels were waiting at the bottom of the ladder, and Hels raised a single curious eyebrow, but didn’t say anything as she jogged to catch up to them.

“You look miserable,” EX said, frowning. “Where are your gloves?”

“Wh-” She jolted. “Ah, shit, I must’ve left them up there.”

“Well, you don’t have time to get them now,” Hels snapped. “Come on.”

As they walked off, Symmetry took a second to glance over her shoulder, squinting up against the snow.

She didn’t see anything against the dark sky, but somehow she could feel Joe’s eyes on her, could sense their wave, and she felt her shoulders relax, ever so slightly.

Because pixandria values dead and whats not better than a zombie in that society. ALSO IMAGINE Cleo as a husk, that would be cool Joe would fit there so well omg I think Gem would be aware he does all of this; but like she just lets him do that because he somehow manages to pull off the most hard spells at random. Jellie is his familiar. But also i definitly also see him in like his wizard skin from season 7 as a weird rteacher that should have been fired ages ago but still keeps coming back.

So there’s another one of those cool Hermitcraft trivia posts circulating again which I kinda wanna reblog but also I’m feeling a little bit hesitant because some of the points seem maybe a little bit inaccurate or exaggerated? Like I’d like to fact check them first at least.

(Particularly what stuck out to me was the point about season two only happening because Joe did a coup, because that’s not how I understood that story the way Joe and Xisuma have told it? Or at least as far as I can remember... the impression I had was that Xisuma was mainly the person who took the initiative to keep the server going but Joe was one who broke the gridlock on whether or not they should add new members by just straight up inviting Cleo without asking the others.)

(So maybe a more accurate way to phrase it is that without Xisuma season 2 wouldn’t have happened, but without Joe, season 2 might not have had any new members. And at this point the only still currently active Hermits who were already on the server were X, Hypno and Joe, so the lineup could have turned out very differently, if the server had even survived past season 2.)

I don’t wanna start counting diversity points on each server like it’s a fucking game, but I DO wanna point out that the “white guy“ comment is pretty rich coming from a Hermitcraft fan.

Both servers have a white guy problem.

But at least with Dream SMP I can actually think of more than one creator who isn’t white, and it didn’t take them until season 2 to add a second female member...

(I know Hermitcraft is more of a private and closed group and they have extremely strict qualifications they demand from new members, plus every current member has veto power, so it’s much harder to add new Hermits than it is to add new DSMP members where it’s all decided by One Guy, but I think some frustration about this is still justified due to how big Hermitcraft is in the MCYT community.)

It’s also extremely annoying when apparently there was a whole thing where Hermit fans were insisting that Quackity is white during the sexyman polls?? Presumably just to excuse their shitty behaviour??? idek. (And I also heard on the other hand that there were some straight up racist comments made about Quackity as well. He literally cannot win, apparently.)

2:

What is this weird attitude towards new creators?? Yes, it’s cool that Hermitcraft has been around for over a decade and that the Hermits have all these cool histories in the community and even influenced the development of the game itself, but you can celebrate that without needing to put down new people, ffs.

I know it’s annoying when the new guys suddenly get more popular than your guys, but it happens, it’s the circle of YouTube. Please chill out. No need to be a hipster about it.

Besides, even if we don’t count people like Vikkstar who admittedly didn’t play on DSMP all that much, there were still people on the server who had long histories in the MCYT community:

Phil has been making Minecraft videos at least since 2012, when he started his first Hardcore Series, and holds the record for the longest running hardcore world to date. There’s a splash text in Minecraft referencing him (”Ph1lzA had a good run!”)

Techno started his channel in 2013 and was part of the Hypixel player council (or was it called the Elite Team back then? Not sure) since he was like 14 or 15, helping with testing and game design on many of the iconic Hypixel games before the server became the biggest Minecraft server in the world. He too has a splash text in the game (”Technoblade never dies!”)

BadBoyHalo has his own PVP server called MunchyMC which was launched in 2015 and before that he was part of the staff on a different PVP server.

Also while more recent, a whole bunch of DSMP members were also on SMP Live and SMP Earth back in 2019. In fact 2019 was when a lot of the DSMP members originally got their initial boost into popularity.

Honestly the only DSMP members who fit the description of “new white guy who popped up in 2021“ are like... probably Foolish and BoomerNA??

I think you probably meant 2020 anyway, because that’s when Dream, George, Sapnap, Tommy, Tubbo and Ranboo became popular. I assume so anyway because those are usually the white guys people actually seem to be talking about when they talk about DSMP white guys. (Obligatory note that Ranboo is in fact nonbinary though.)

tl;dr:

You can just hype up the Hermits and just not say anything about DSMP. That’s an option. Especially if you clearly don’t know that much about DSMP.

Yh i agree about people s obsession with new duos. And don t get me wrong, sometimes new and unexpected duos are great, i m talking to the treebark burner account! Ranchers were also great, and totally out of nowhere. But i think people are a bit too obsessed with 1 creating new duos and names in order to portray new narratives and theories and 2 making every close relationship romantic or familiar, as if close friendships, qprs or just good ol' rivalries did not exist 3 ignoring female ccs, even more so when it gets in the middle of a ship (this happens with women in every single piece of media btw).

Male-female friendships (or ships) are often ignored bc i feel a lot of fans feel as if these fanon relationships are somehow more "real" and not roleplay bc they are a "straight couple" (c'mon people, most of us are queer what are you doing with this mentality?), and are more likely to assume you ship the creators and not the characters, or worst, to actually assume the ccs are together irl (which was the reason some female ccs were against shipping in the 1st place). Re: this point, I will give an special mention to bee duo though, the fans really assumed they liked each other irl, which was very creepy considering they were underage at the time.

F/F ships are also often snubbed, although lately i ve seen them become a lot more popular, such as nature wives and more recently Gem & Pearl (ik the ship has a name, but i ve decided to ignore it bc we are better than that), which has been satisfactory to see. Still a long way to go though.

you're so right about male-female friendships and especially in this fandom. i feel like m/f shipping in this sphere (outside of the obvious lizzie/joel) is seen as taboo bc it could leak into m/f irl shipping. at least that's why i was squicked out for like two years. esp bc m/f irl shipping was / is a problem (for example, i still see ppl asking in their public yt comments if stress and iskall are together. during hc2 people thought mumbo and false were dating when he was like 17 and she was in her early twenties and it's just fucking weird to truth in people's comments).

the fanon side of m-f friendships/ships in hc is interesting bc pre gem and pearl, the three women had their "designated guy bestie that they always collab with" and it's quite obvious who: stress-iskall, cleo-joe, false-ren (to a lesser extent cub). former two are basically the only prominent m/f ships (iskall in particular plays into it). i had talked to ppl in dms about why false/ren isn't prominent and my main theory is what i call the yaoi shield bc ren is shipped with a lot of men LMFAO (also something something about ren/iskall and false/stress being complements to avoid the "boring" m/f shipping).

but i still wish m-f friendships get more recognition 😔 like if you're not shipping them in the character sense, there's no risk of being seen as irl shipping, so technically it's no different from same gender friendships, right? 🤡 and i do not like the instant "siblingification" to create a fanon familiar bond to avoid shipping. like sometimes it works. a lot of the time it doesn't. people can just be friends. and they all are actually friends.

I don't think Bdubs would be Equius's dad but I do think Equius would get along well with him (warriors bond formed by both being horse girls) and he and Nepeta are both just often around whenever Bdubs is underfoot. Nepeta is a bit like a mini-Bdubs (small, green, kinda feral, you get it. Just similar energy) and keeps trying to pounce at him and stuff. She thinks the noises he makes when he gets all sputtery indignant are really funny. But she IS listening to them (Nepeta has become an Etho fan).

Really in my heart Nepeta is a clethubs fanchild to me. I don't think they adopt her together I think Cleo adopts Nepeta and she's like "okay!" and starts trying to Make Clethubs Canon. She is not very good at it. She spends years trying.

Very very good points 🥰 it’s final for my au that equius is Joe’s kid and nepeta is Cleo’s kid for sure—it’s just too perfect since they’d be raised so closely together. BUTTT nepeta would absolutely love the stories Cleo tells when she comes back from the traffic series- apart from her regular shipping wall she’d start shipping all the hermits (girl same) and clethubs would absolutely be somewhere high up there. I think it's funny honestly. I love any ship where bdubs can get a bit teased and flustered and especially cledubs because I don't think he really fights back as much as he would with say etho.. makes me giggle.

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

I don't think they approach it in the typical romantic sense... I'm not good with labelling stuff and I don't think they are either frankly. They have SOMETHING going on but it's not tied down. Bdubs is pretty committed to Etho and Cleo probably has stuff going on with Gem and Joe too, I don't think either of them really Care about what it is but they enjoy each others company and fucking ruthlessly or whatever

So! BDubs is an Elemental Elf- specifically, he's a Flora Elf (yep, the Elemental Court is broken into different elements of nature; Flora, Fauna, Fire, Water/Ice, Wind. They do not have ALL elements and stone/earth is not something they have control over)- meaning he has no Light Court magic so his Fae magic is not incompatible with Vampire Magic the way Scar's is. He also has long hair, as is Elven tradition (and also in line with their pantheon) but mostly keeps it under his cloak- which he made himself btw <3 He retains his Elemental magic and also has the standard Vampire magic (Turning, the ability to Feed and process the inherent magic in blood, semi-immortal soul sustained through said magic, healing through blood drinking, etc), but unlike most Vampires he's a "daywalker"- meaning he can walk around in the sunlight without burning. This is great for him ofc, being an Elemental Elf he really likes the sun (even if he doesn't necessarily NEED it). Unfortunately, "daywalking" sort of takes the place of a Vampire's unique magic (one could say the invulnerability to the sun IS their unique magic) so BDubs doesn't have a unique magic like Mumbo's shadow walking or Blondie's teleporting or Cleo's.... well, we'll get to Cleo's in-story so :)

Now! BDubs has been with Cleo for a century or so now. Vampires and Fae are the two longest-lived Supernatural species (below Deities and Lower Deities), so Vampire and Fae society sometimes intermix bc there is something comforting about knowing you're not the only ones watching people around you grow old and die hjfdjkfsd (this is also how Cleo became friends with Scar's mother). Also Fae COULD just stick to their own realm but that can get so lonely and boring so (the King did not start trying to keep Fae in and Human/Human-adjacents out until Scar is born jkgfdk). BDubs and Cleo met at a little party Cleo hosted- now BDubs wasn't a noble within his own Court, he was your pretty average working-class Elf, and he was sent to this party as a sort of- hmm... gardener I guess you could say- get the plants all nice and pretty for the party, as a favor to Cleo who has been a pretty good ally and friend to the Fae for a while now, and it was in the middle of a drought so Cleo was a little miffed about their gardens being a little gray. Remember, this is all pre-war and before Cleo started actively disliking/distrusting the Council even though they were already wary of their interest in Joe, so the concerns were a little more petty back then. BDubs interacted with Cleo a lot in order to get the garden and the plants and everything exactly the way they wanted them, and they ended up bonding during the course of this and Cleo just kinda decided "Huh, I like this funky little Elf, I think I'll keep him if he's game" and BDubs was sooo game for it. Convincing the Fae Courts to let BDubs stay in the Natural world was a little more difficult but hey, when ya know the name of a Fae it's pretty easy to keep them around regardless of what the Courts say ya know? So yeah <3

BDubs is also with Etho, as a special treat to a good friend, and has a couple future partners lined up once he meets them hehe. But other than that hmmmmm I can't think right now hjfgdjkfd if you have more questions I am happy to answer 👀👀
