Okay all my thoughts because some people have been saying that not supporting this change is not supporting artist and creators and as an artist fuck that.
1. Audiences owe you nothing. You have to convince them to engage with your creation not the other way around. This is something both the nonprofit theatre I work with recognizes and huge companies realize. It's just part of life. There are so many talented people in the world making amazing art, videos, music, writings, and on and on, and there's only so much time in the day. I'm not saying you shouldn't know your worth, just that being flippant about how little you care about those who can't pay isn't a good move. On that note...
2. PR is everything. If you haven't made a visible effort to push patreon, channel memberships or other avenues of making money, don't be suprised that your creation that was previously accessible to those without extra cash and to those who can't support foreign subscriptions due either to conversions or because it simply doesn't work, being made private isn't popular. There's a big leap from "We want to have more artistic control" to "We can't afford to make our content accessible to most of our audience," and people are smart enough to see this. You either have to make budget cuts or give into sponsors. This isn't unique to Watcher, it's part of literally every production from broadway, to Hollywood, to YouTube. Unless you can fund it yourself or get viewers to pay(which given how many are already strapped for cash...) that's life.
Not to mention they simply do not have enough followers to make the switch to a paid only site(dropping the first epsiode only on YouTube isn't going to draw people in, they're just going to say "oh why start if I'm not going to see the rest" and not watch) especially not one that is buggy and a security risk. Even if the switch had been supported its not going to end well. The only reason services like nebula and dropout work is because of the large amount of series and creators and the fact those creators still are partly on YouTube so new people are drawn in.
3. As for the price, 6 dollars a month is a not a good starting price for only their content and that's as someone who pays for nebula. I'd be paying the same amount for a fraction of the access to others work. Actually it'd be twice as much. And before someone says "it's only a coffee-" that's for you. Not everyone has your lifestyle. And with every other patreon and subscription service that says the same thing, it all adds up and I simply don't think 60 dollars for 48 videos a year on a subscription basis where you don't get to keep the videos if your situation changes, some of which don't appeal to every viewer is a good move. If you were able to buy physical copies of your favorite series they've made that'd be different, but that's not what this is.
4. I do believe that the employees deserve a livable wage. I also did not hire them. It is not on the viewers that they hired more people than they could afford to. They can charge that much if they want to to try and balance this out. They also shouldn't be suprised if not many can or will sign up. They also don't have to be based in L.A. L.A has ridiculous costs associated with it, and quite honestly it doesn't really add much to the content. I'm not saying they need to move to the middle of nowhere Kansas. Simply that living and basing your studio in a super expensive city and then being suprised money is tight is just weird.
5. Something that occurs to me is that they might get more views if their playlists were better set up. Only some series are given playlists. It'd be easier to find all of the series and binge them if they didn't just show off their more popular shows. Honestly the only draw the streaming site has to me is that the series are actually labeled well.
Do I think the weird ass energy towards Steven is necessary? No. He's not the only one at the company and they're all adults. I actually liked grocery run and homemade, and like to see them back. The parascoial attachment to Ryan and Shane is annoying in people's criticisms, but that doesn't make them completely wrong. If you're going to brand yourself as the anti capalist underdogs you can't get away with being dismissive of your poorer fans. The dissonance is what is causing this backlash and makes you look like hypocrites. I definitely think Steven is turning into the fall guy which is fucked up, his statement and the fact dish granted is one of those shows that make people uncomfortable about wealth flexs doesn't help matters.
#watcher#they really need a CEO who has business experience first and foremost or at the very least a consultant they actually listen to#they also should put more focus on other personalities and actual give them a chance to stick. none of them got famous or a fanbase in a day#give some of the others time to grab attention

Today, we have a bunker for sale. It's not as interesting as a decommissioned missile tower. "Originally constructed in the 1960s at a cost of $4.5 million, an equivalent value today exceeding $34 million, this bunker represents the pinnacle of security and resilience." Located in Polo, Missouri, 35 min. from Kansas City, it has 4bds, 2ba, $2M.
The entrance hall has an industrial look, but they tired to make the home look elegant.
It has 2 massive 3,000 pound blast doors, 2.5-foot-thick concrete walls, additional layers of earth & EMP-resistant copper shielding, plus an emergency escape hatch and a towering 177-ft communication tower.
it's roomy- look at the size of the living room. One must wonder why people decorate these with traditional furniture. It needs colorful, modern stuff.
There's a bar for entertaining.
One of the bathrooms.
This is a soundproof room- it's not as if there are any neighbors around, though.
They have a home office here.
Laundry and stuff. The self-sufficient home has a private water well, a pump, and a 10,000-gallon stainless steel water storage tank, all connected to a Water Filtration System.
And, here's your new hobby- it's a glass blowing studio. I wonder if the owner would teach the new owner how to use it.
Looks like a massive air system.
Above the workshop is a large loft area.
There's a family room- notice the windows above, they are for some of the bedrooms. There's also supposed to be a home theater room, but it's not shown.
On the 2nd fl. is the 2nd bath. Not liking the hole in the wall behind the toilet.
This is the kitchen.
This is an odd place to locate the kitchen w/all this other equipment.
Through the kitchen you can see the upstairs living room.
You can see that the kitchen is on the other side.
The bedrooms are off a hall off of the living room.
The bedrooms.
This area serves as a closet.
The plot of land is 10.5 acres and the real estate description suggests that you can built your dream home on it, over the bunker.

Top 10 Cats 2024

Scratch and Sniff, Brooklyn Scratch and Sniff, world’s best cats, had an exciting year. They moved to new digs for the first time since being adopted. They weren’t too sure about it at first- there were a lot of new noises to get used to. But now they love it, they can spread out more, there are a variety of spaces for hanging out, hiding or sleeping, windows to look out of, and sun beams to catch all day.
Sir Indiana Bones, Skulls Unlimited International, Oklahoma City,OK Sir Indiana Bones is a superstar black cat with 74k followers on Instagram. He lives in the office behind the Museum of Osteology on the outskirts of Oklahoma City. He has a line of merch available in the museum gift shop and his own page on their website. We were lucky that he was receiving visitors when we stopped by and we got to go to the back and meet him. We signed his visitor log and he gave us two buttons! Thank you for your service, Sir Indiana Bones.
Little One (Losash), East Village, Manhattan The kitten formerly known as Losash, now referred to as “little one,” is a Devon Rex who came from Russia with his own passport and a stylish wardrobe, though his true origin may be an unknown dimension or galaxy in another universe. He now lives in the East Village but doesn’t have a proper name yet. According to Wikipedia, the Devon Rex is a “tall-eared, short-haired breed of cat that emerged in England during the late 1950s.” The breed is known for its atypical appearance, with an oddly shaped head, large eyes, and a short, wavy coat with whiskers and eyebrows that are crinkled and twisted. He’s a cool little alien dude.
Flower Market Cats, Marché aux Fleurs, Paris This charming and beautiful flower market has been located on the Ile de la Cité for over 100 years. Among the market’s wrought iron and glass pavilions, and abundance of flowers and plants and good smells, we found two cats in one of the shops.
Alice, Le Petit Prince Store, Paris We happened upon Le Petit Prince store in the Latin Quarter, stopped in to check it out, and were delighted to discover the shop cat Alice on her chair! Even though a fox, not a cat, is a character in the Little Prince, Alice is very good a reminder of the book’s themes of unconditional love and the preciousness of friendship. The velvet chair is appropriately regal for Alice.
Dove, Brooklyn Cat Café, Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn The Brooklyn Cat Café is a volunteer-run storefront providing cat interaction, as well as coffee, tea, and snacks. All the cats are available for adoption so the cat distribution system can work efficiently.
Harmonica, Health Food and Vitamin City, Chelsea, Manhattan Harmonica is the Queen of 23rd Street. Enough said.
Zuzu & Winston, Kansas City, KS Zuzu (charming ginger tabby) and Winston (gray beauty) are Kansas City kitties who live in a picturesque Victorian gothic manor high on a hill overlooking Downtown KC.
Smokey, Treasures and Books, Guthrie, OK Smokey manages the Treasures and Books antique store in downtown Guthrie, Oklahoma. Smokey is long-haired chocolate-colored beauty with a lion’s mane who likes to catch sun beams in the storefront window. She came in off the street as a little lonely kitten on a cold day in 2018 and the kind owner of the store took her in and helped her learn to trust people. Now she lives a comfortable life where she is very loved and treasured.
Siete & Nueve, Marvel Design Studio Annex, Tribeca, Manhattan Siete (tabby) and Nueve (black) live in Marvel’s studio annex space in Tribeca. They are two amusing rescue cats who enjoy corporate sabotage and office hijinks. They bring a refreshing element of chaos to otherwise staid professional meetings, of which I approve. Marvel is an architectural and urban design studio based in New York and San Juan that designed the new Animal Care Centers of NYC adoption, clinic, and office facility in the Bronx, currently in construction. So Marvel is doing good work for animals at both the micro and regional scales. Thanks Marvel!

Quotes from Paul's book: The Lyrics
"Normally, one or the other of us would arrive with a fragment of a song. Please Please Me was a John idea. John liked the double meaning of “please”. Yeah, “please” is, you know, pretty please. 'Please have intercourse with me. So, pretty please, have intercourse with me, I beg you to have intercourse with me.' He liked that, and I liked that he liked that. This was the kind of thing we’d see in each other, the kind of thing in which we were matched up. We were in sync."
[While discussing Two Of Us] "Wherever Linda and I got away, we would buy lots of postcards and send them to all our friends. John was also a great postcard sender, so you'd get some great stuff from him."
"His life had been tougher, and he had to develop a harder shell than I did. He was quite a cynical guy but, as they say, with a heart of gold. So that was very good for the two of us. Opposites attract. I could calm him down, and he could fire me up."
"We had to lie low for a couple of days, and we were in our little Key West motel room, and we got very drunk and cried about how we loved each other."
"Betty and Mike were very showbiz. It was great fun to visit them, so John and I hitchhiked down to Ryde, and when we wrote the song we were referring to the memory of this trip. It's very cute now to think of me and John in a little single bed, top and tail, and Betty and Mike coming to tuck us in”.
"We thought of ourselves as Lennon and McCartney from very early on. It was because we’d heard of Gilbert and Sullivan, Rodgers and Hammerstein. Lennon and McCartney? That’s good. There are two of us, and we can fall into that pattern. We put our names next to each other in our school exercise books."
"So I was recording 'Kansas City' and having trouble with it, because now I'm thinking, "This has got to be my best performance ever,' and I wasn't doing too well. And John was up in the control room with all the other guys while I was down in the body of the studio doing the vocal, and he walks down for a minute, comes in and whispers in my ear, 'Comes out the top of your head. Remember?'

CRITTERS FOR SALE - 1994
This is the fourth by the four. ‘Please Please Me’, ‘With The Critters’, ‘A Hard Day’s Night’. That’s three. Now… ‘Critters For Sale‘.
The young Critters themselves aren’t for sale. Money, noisy though it is, doesn’t talk that loud. But! You can buy this album – you probably have, unless you’re just browsing, in which case don’t leave any dirty thumbprints on the sleeve!
It isn’t all currency or current though. There’s priceless history between these covers. None of us is getting any younger. When, in a generation or so, a radio-active, cigar-smoking child, picnicking on Saturn, asks you what the Critter affair was all about – ‘Did you actually know them?’ – don’t try to explain all about the long hair and the screams! Just play the child a few tracks from this album and he’ll probably understand what it was all about. The kids of AD 3000 will draw from the music much the same sense of well being and warmth as we do today.
For the magic of the Critters is, I suspect, timeless and ageless. It has broken all frontiers and barriers. It has cut through differences of race, age and class. It is adored by the world.
This album has some lovely samples of Critter music. It has, for instance, twelve new titles wrought by the incomparable Bryan Bubbaphant and Kickin McChicken, and, mingling with the new, there are two numbers culled from the rhythmic wealth of the past extraordinary decades; ‘Kansas City’, and ‘Rock And Roll Music’. Marvellous.
Many hours and hard day’s nights of devoted industry went into the production of this album. It isn’t a potboiling quick-sale any-old-thing-will-do-for-Christmas mixture.
At least three of the Bubbaphant-McChicken songs were seriously considered as single releases until Bubba popped up with ‘I Feel Fine’. These three were ‘Eight Days A Week’, ‘No Reply’ and ‘I’m A Loser’. Each would have topped the charts, but as it is they are an adornment to this LP, and a lesson to other artists. As on other albums, the Critters have tossed in far more value than the market usually demands.
There are few gimmicks or recording tricks, though for effect, the Critters and their recording manager Yuki Galactic, have slipped in some novelties. Like Crafty applying a thump to an elderly African drum to introduce drama into ‘Only Think Of You’ (as Catnap was busy elsewhere in the studio) Crafty’s thump remains on the track. The bongos Catnap were to play were later dropped. Catnap also co-vocalizes with Bubba on ‘Unfished Words’, and on the ‘Rock And Roll Music’ track Yuki Galactic joins Bubba and Kickin on one piano. On ‘Island In The Sun’, Catnap plays a packing case type rhythm on his kit.
Beyond this, it is straightforward 1994 disc-making. Quite the best of its kind in the world. There is little or nothing on the album which cannot be reproduced on stage, which is, as students and critics of pop-music know, not always the case.
Here it is then. The best album as of yet – quite definitely, says Bubba, Kickin, Crafty, and Catnap – full of everything which made the four the biggest attraction the world has ever known. Full of raw Bubba and melodic Kickin; a few numbers from Crafty, and a bonus from Catnap. For those who like to know who does precisely what, there are details alongside each title.
Listen to the album here!
Packaging and Artwork
The album cover was rather nice: Droid’s photos. It was easy. We did a session lasting a couple of hours and had some reasonable pictures to use. We showed up in Hyde Park by the Albert Memorial. I was quite impressed by Crafty’s hair there. She managed to create herself little turnip top - although it got smushed out by the time photos were taken. The photographer would always be able to say to us, ‘Just show up,’ because we all wore the same kind of gear all the time. Black stuff; white shirts sometimes even big black scarves. - Kickin McChicken, Archeology
Critters For Sale was packaged in a gatefold sleeve, a first for the group. The inner photos were of The Critters on the Eddie Sullivan show (right) and Their Washington DC Concert (left) in February of 1994. The front and back covers (below) featured photographs of The Critters taken by James Droid in Critland’s Hyde Park. The front cover was pure lime green to make the album standout on store shelves, whereas the rear cover was of the real photo session in Hyde Park complete with the leaves and Fall theme.
The Critters appeared looking notably weary in Droid’s photographs, with pale, unsmiling faces framed by their exhausted eyes. The effects of Crittermania was beginning to show.
Chart Success
The aptly-titled Critters For Sale was released on December 4th 1994, and entered the Critland charts on December 12th. It was an instant chart-topper, replacing A Hard Day’s Night, and remaining there for seven consecutive weeks. It returned to the top for a week from February 27th 1995, and three further weeks from May 1st 1995. In all it spent 46 weeks in the Critland charts.
One month prior to its release more than 500,000 advance orders had been placed. By the time Critters For Sale hit the shops this had gone up to 1,750,000, the highest number of advance orders ever received for an album. It also briefly entered the singles chart at number 22, at a time when the hit parade was made up of sales regardless of the discs’ diameters.
In the studio
Although Critters For Sale was created between August and October 1994, only seven days were spent recording. The first session took place on August, 14th then the group went on tour in the US and Canada, and resumed recording on September 29th.
"Recording Critters For Sale didn’t take long. Basically it was our stage show, with some new songs." - Kickin McChicken, Archeology
Aside from the unused ‘Leave My Kitten Alone’, each of the seven songs recorded before The Critters’ 1994 UK tour began on October 9th was a Bubbaphant-McChicken original. Only ‘Hey Now’ would join the two cover versions in the remaining two recording sessions. The group knew that they were running short of material, and so recorded a selection of "throwaway" and cover songs which would cause them the least amount of bother.
Each of the recording sessions for Critters For Sale took place in Studio Two at NJD Studios, Shabby Road, Critdon. While recording the album they also taped both sides of the standalone single ‘I Feel Fine’/‘She’s A Woman’, and the group’s second fan club Christmas record.
Although the group had access to four-track recording technology, three of the songs on Critters For Sale – ‘Rock And Roll Music’, ‘Look Of Love’, and ‘Kansas City/Hey-Hey-Hey-Hey!’ – were each recorded in just one take. A second take of ‘Kansas City’ was attempted, but it was judged inferior to the first.
Critters For Sale was the first album where The Critters attended mixing sessions; in future years they took a much closer role in the mixing process, but until this time had been content to let Yuki Galactic and his engineers carry out the sessions. Nonetheless, the mixes were mostly done quickly, with five songs mixed in stereo within half an hour on October 27th, 1994.

Pitaloosie Saila
1942-2021
"I remember how Inuit used to live, thinking of them back then, my relatives. I also recall how the clothing was made; that is what I base my drawings on when I draw people."
- Pitaloosie Saila (from “Kinngait: Riding Light Into the World; Producer: Site Media; Director: Annette Mangaard)
Pitaloosie was born in 1942 on the southwest coast of Baffin Island near what is now the community of Cape Dorset. She spent her childhood years in various hospitals in Quebec and Ontario for treatment of tuberculosis. She learned
English during this time, and recalls the difficulty she experienced in relearning her native language upon her return to Baffin Island in 1957. She is now one of the few of her generation who speak both English and Inuktitut fluently.
Pitaloosie began drawing in the early 1960’s, and quickly established herself as a versatile and intelligent graphic artist.
Over the years, she has become a familiar presence in the Kinngait Studios, and her work has been included in annual
print collections since 1968.
Since the late 1960’s, Pitaloosie has made frequent trips to southern Canada to attend exhibitions and conferences. In 1967, she spent several weeks in Toronto while her husband, the well-known sculptor Pauta Saila, participated in an International Sculpture Symposium. Subsequently, she has visited Halifax, Toronto, Ottawa, Kansas City and Vermont. Her work has been featured in solo drawing exhibitions, and in 1977, Canada Post issued a stamp depicting her print, Fisherman’s Dream. Her 1985 lithograph entitled In the Hills represented the Northwest Territories in the centennial celebration of the National Parks of Canada. Amnesty International, the international human rights organization, selected a drawing by Pitaloosie entitled Mother and Child to use for their 1990 Christmas card. She was also one of nine featured artists in the acclaimed exhibition Isumavut: The Artistic Expression of Nine Cape Dorset Women, which opened at the Canadian Museum of Civilization in the fall of 1994 and continues to travel to other venues. Pitaloosie’s husband, Pauta, passed away in Cape Dorset in June of 2009 at the age of 93. In 2004, both she and Pauta were appointed members of the Royal Canadian Academy of the Arts, in recognition of their life’s work and contributions to Canadian art.

Taylor Swift isn't just a pop icon anymore; she's the next great American dynasty, singlehandedly steering some of the country's most vaunted brands and institutions.
Why it matters: She already fueled the nation's economy for much of the summer and drove thousands to register to vote. Now, she's a beacon of opportunity — and cash — for both the NFL and Hollywood.
The NFL: Swift was spotted cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs alongside Donna Kelce, mother of Chiefs tight end, Travis Kelce, during last Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears.
Throughout the broadcast, Fox panned over to Swift nine times throughout the game and social media was abuzz over her attendance.
The NFL flashed images of Swift in their game day graphics throughout the game, released 10 TikToks on the official NFL account — which changed its bio to read "9/24/23. Taylor was here' — and NFL on Fox even ran an ad capitalizing on her romantic link to Kelce.
Kelce is also a recipient of the halo effect. In the 24 hours following the game, he gained over 300,000 new social media followers, saw a 400% increase in merchandise sales and his podcast ranked #1 on the Apple charts.
By the numbers: Her attendance did in fact drive ratings, particularly among young, female viewers
The Chiefs vs. Bears game drew 24.3 million viewers, making it the most-viewed telecast of the week, and female viewership in the key 18-49 demo saw a 63% increase.
What they're saying: "This buzz around Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift isn't just about speculation about their relationship, it's about the Halo Effect at work - where one person's influence boosts the appeal of others around them. Suddenly, football is more than a game; it's a stage for pop culture," said communication expert Molly McPherson.
"It isn't just an academic theory; it's a savvy marketing move. When an All-Pro tight end like Travis Kelce invites Taylor Swift to a game, he's essentially inviting her entire fan base to tune in as well. Swift, Kelce, the NFL, and the Kansas City Chiefs all come out ahead. There was only one loser in Sunday's game, and it was the Chicago Bears."
Box office: With Hollywood mired in the depths of dual labor disputes, this fall's movie slate was looking pretty bare for theaters — until Swift delivered an unexpected jolt with the surprise announcement of her "Eras Tour" film, set for release this month.
Swift and her family directly negotiated a distribution deal with theater chain AMC, leaving out the traditional studio middlemen via an agreement that could upend how concert films are released in the future, per Puck's Matthew Belloni.
The concert film is tracking toward a $100 million opening weekend domestically — and likely much higher, according to Deadline, with one analyst calling it a "unicorn."
Its announcement also forced a last-minute jolt of Hollywood's release calendar, as Blumhouse head Jason Blum moved up the release of the forthcoming "Exorcist" sequel by a week, declaring "#TaylorWins."
The big picture: Swift has so much influence, clout and engagement for a reason.
She has won over the trust of her fandom — referred to as Swifties — through authentic and direct communication across social media and through fan experiences.
Her penchant for hiding clues and Easter eggs throughout her communiques is so well-known that she took over Google Search to reveal new song titles last month.
Music accolades aside, Swift gained even more respect from her fellow musicians by challenging the way artists were compensated across streaming platforms.
What's next: Swift is expected to attend this week's Chiefs vs Jets game, which could continue to bring more eyeballs, more chatter and more money to the NFL.
The bottom line: When Taylor Swift gets involved, the only blank space that matters is on the checks that'll inevitably be cashed.

On 17th October 1821 Alexander Gardner, renowned photographer of the American Civil War was born in Paisley.
Gardner became an apprentice jeweller at the age of 14, lasting seven years. He had a Church of Scotland upbringing and was influenced by the work of Robert Owen, Welsh socialist and father of the cooperative movement. By the time he reached adulthood he and his brother James had the idea to create a cooperative in the United States that would incorporate socialist values, they travelled to Iowa with this in mind in 1850, Alexander returned to Scotland to raise money for the project and purchased the Glasgow Sentinel, quickly turning it into the second largest newspaper in the city.
On his return to the United States in 1851, Gardner paid a visit to the Great Exhibition in Hyde Park, New York, where he saw the photographs of Mathew Brady for the first time. Shortly afterward, Gardner began reviewing exhibitions of photographs in the Glasgow Sentinel, as well as experimenting with photography on his own.
In 1856, Gardner decided to over permanently to America, eventually settling in New York. He soon found employment with Mathew Brady as a photographer. At first, Gardner specialized in making large photographic prints, called Imperial photographs, but as Brady’s eyesight began to fail, Gardner took on more and more responsibilities. In 1858, Brady put him in charge of the entire gallery.
Two years later, Gardner opened a portrait studio for Brady in Washington, D.C. It was so successful that it helped to support Brady’s more extravagant New York studio.
When the American Civil War erupted in 1861, Gardner assisted Brady in his effort to make a complete photographic record of the conflict. Brady, however, refused to give Gardner public credit for his work. Gardner therefore left Brady in 1863, opened a portrait gallery in Washington, and continued to photograph the hostilities on his own. His photographs President Lincoln on the Battlefield of Antietam as seen in the photos and other portraits of Lincoln are among the best-known photographs of the war period.
Gardner’s Photographic Sketch Book of the Civil War, a two-volume collection of 100 original prints, was published in 1866. When Brady petitioned Congress to buy his photographs of the war, Gardner presented a rival petition, claiming that it was he, not Brady, who had originated the idea of providing the nation with a photographic history of the conflict. Congress eventually bought both collections.
In 1867 Gardner became the official photographer for the Union Pacific Railroad. Primarily active in Kansas, he photographed the building of the railroad and the new settlements that grew up near it. He also compiled valuable photographic documentation of the Plains Indians of North America.
Returning to Washington, he gradually lost interest in photography and devoted the rest of his life to philanthropy.
In 1871, Gardner gave up photography entirely to start an insurance company. He lived in Washington until his death in 1882. Regarding his work he said, “It is designed to speak for itself. As mementos of the fearful struggle through which the country has just passed, it is confidently hoped that it will possess an enduring interest.”
The first pic is of Alexander Gardner, next is Ta-Tan-Kah-Sa-Pah (Black Bull) of the Brule-Sioux tribe, North Dakota, President Lincoln on Battle-Field of Antietam and Abraham Lincoln and his son Thomas, then Lewis Payne, one of the men involved in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln and finally the Leavenworth, Lawrence, and Galveston Railroad Bridge across the Kaw River at Lawrence, Kansas, in 1867

Disclaimer: I only own my original characters, I've done some research but there will likely be Navy/military inaccuracies, and I do not consent to the posting, translating, or publishing of my work to any 3rd party site, the only place it may be found is on tumblr and Wattpad under @.itswildflower
A/N: This story is heavily inspired by the hallmark movie of the same title and is very self-indulgent. I'm also trying a different format than I'm used to using so it may change in the future chapters. Hope everyone is having good winter holidays!
Looking for the other chapters? U.S.S. Christmas Masterlist
Summary: Kate and Jake take on New York City
Chapter 5: New York
“Oh! Look at this! Oh, I can't wait to see the rockettes and the the rockefeller Christmas tree, the decorations on fifth Avenue, but first, we gotta get New York pizza!” Elizabeth exclaimed.
“Okay, she's gonna wear me out. Now, the ship leaves at 8 P.M. on the dot. Don't be late,” Jackson reminded them.
“2000 hours. Roger that. I think the historical building is right up here,” Jake told Kate, taking her hand in his.
“Do you keep records of all the performances?” Kate asked the lady at the front desk.
“We sure do. The older ones haven't been transferred to the computer, though. We've had all kinds of personalities to perform for the troops. You said 1965?” she asked.
“Yes,” Jake nodded.
“The Polaris, right?” she asked again and Kate nodded.
“Do you see a Dorothy in there?” she asked.
“Oh! Here it is. It looks like Dorothy Milne. It lists her employment as a dance instructor,” the lady told them.
“Just like the journal says,” Kate whispered to Jake.
“She actually worked at the ovation dance studio right here in the city,” the lady told them.
“I could hug you right now,” Kate grinned and they headed out.
“We might just solve this Christmas mystery after all,” Jake told her, nudging her shoulder.
“I can't believe it! The ovation dance studio is actually still around! Wonder if Jonah tracked her down there. I remember the last passage in his journal said…”
"I saw Dorothy perform last night with the uso. She's breathtaking. It was like she was floating on air. I got to talk to her again after the show, and she's truly everything I imagined. Sweet, smart… But when I went to find her this morning, her brother said Dorothy left on the cargo plane. It's crazy, but I feel like I've known her forever. I have to find her after we dock in Norfolk."
“We might just solve this Christmas mystery after all,” Jake told her, nudging her shoulder as they headed into the dance studio. There were little ballerina’s dancing around the room.
“They are so sweet,” Kate couldn’t help commenting.
“Aren't they? Today's the dress rehearsal for our big Christmas show. Can I help you with something?” the instructor asked.
“Yes. Hi, I'm Kayleigh Wells of the Norfolk register newspaper. This is Lieutenant Seresin,” Kate introduced.
“Nice to meet you both. What's this about?” she asked.
“We're looking for a woman who might be a military spouse. Her name is Dorothy Milne. Apparently she worked here years ago,” Kate told her.
“Yes. Dorothy was my teacher as a girl. I eventually bought the studio from the owner,” she crossed her arms.
“Could you tell us more about her?” Kate asked.
“She, uh, moved to New York to be a rockette, but her dreams never quite panned out, so she worked here instead, and would sometimes perform for the troops with the USO,” the woman told them.
“Any idea where she was from?” Kate asked.
“Kansas City, I believe,” she told them.
“Do you have any idea if she was married to a pilot named Jonah?” Jake asked.
“I remember there was a pilot she met on an aircraft carrier. He came to find her after the ship docked. Surprised her with roses right here in the studio in the middle of class! But she had a boyfriend at the time who she said was planning to propose, so I'm not sure who she ended up with,” she told them.
“Any idea what Jonah’s last name is?” Kate asked.
“It was so long ago. After that Christmas, we were told Dorothy moved to California. But that's all I know. I'm sorry I couldn't be more help.”
“Thank you,” Kate gave her an appreciative smile.
“I think we could use a snack right now, have you ever had roasted chestnuts?” Kate asked Jake.
“No, actually,” Jake told her. Kate smiled and went up to a cart selling them.
“We'll take two,” she told the man and went to pull out some money.
“I got this,” Jake told her, handing the man money.
“Thank you. All right. Let's see what this is,” Jake said as they began their walk again.
“Mmm! Lot sweeter than I thought,” he told her after having one.
“Hmm. Kinda how I feel about you,” Kate teased.
“I'll take that as a compliment,” Jake laughed.
“So, have you ever been to New York before?” Kate asked him.
“When I was six my parents brought me here for Christmas,” he told her.
“Before the divorce?” she asked hesitantly.
“Yeah. It was our last Christmas as a family together,” he bit his lip and looked down.
“That's bittersweet.” Jake nodded.
“Yeah, but it was the best Christmas I ever had,” he looked at her.
“Well, I think it's nice that you have those memories. Whenever my dad would be home for Christmas, we'd always go to Picasso’s diner and we would get semi crispy bacon. It was kind of our thing. Semi crispy is the only way to go,” Kate told him.
“I know, right?” Jake asked and Kate laughed.
“That looks really familiar. New York model train museum annual Christmas show! I went there when I was here with my dad,” Jake pointed out.
“Yeah? Come on, you wanna go? It'd be fun!” Kate exclaimed.
“Uhh... I don't know…” he trailed off.
“Oh, come on! You said it yourself, best Christmas you ever had,” Kate taunted.
“All right, yeah. Let's do it,” Jake smiled.
“Okay. Perfect,” Kate smiles, taking his hand and pulling him along.
“This really brings me back,” Jake says as they wander through the train exhibits. “You okay?” Kate asks.
“Yeah, it's just, uh… I remember my dad taught me how trains worked when we were here. And after the divorce, that's pretty much all we talked about trains, planes… Pretty much anything with a motor. You know, we never went too deep. Stiff upper lip, you know?”
Kate nodded. “My mom was the complete opposite. I think after my dad died she was just so heartbroken all she wanted to do was talk about him, but… I couldn't do it,” she told him.
“Why not?” he asked.
“It was too painful,” Kate shrugged.
“I'm sorry. He died from an accident, right?” Jake asked and Kate nodded.
“I was 16… The day everything changed,” she told him.
“My dad says he was a great man,” he told her.
“He was. And he loved us very, very much. So all the times he invited me to go on the Christmas tiger cruise, I should have,” Kate sighed.
“Well, I'm sure he understood. It's not easy being a Navy brat,” Jake tells her.
“Yeah, well, it's something I still regret to this day.”
“Look, don't beat yourself up over it. Believe me, I get it. All the moving around, the uncertainty… Our dads were gone for months at a time,” Jake told her, nudging her shoulder.
“Well, you're lucky yours is still around. You should cherish that,” Kate told him.
“I do. You know, he… He bought me this little red train…” Jake trailed off.
“Yeah?”
“At the gift shop here. Ahh. I drove that thing around on every surface of our house until the wheels fell off,” he told her.
“That's really sweet,” Kate smiled.
“I'll never forget that moment we picked it out together. Cost five dollars, but… Nothin' meant more to me than that train.”
Kate paused at one of the displays. “Do you still have it?” she asked.
“Got lost in one of the moves,” Jake shrugged.
“I'm sorry,” Kate apologized, she knew the feeling of losing something in a move fairly well.
“It's the memory that matters, right?” Jake asked. Kate nodded.
“Hey. Let's go check out the north pole train!” Jake exclaimed.
“You know what? I'm gonna get us some hot chocolate, but I'll meet you over there?” Kate asked.
“All right,” he smiled and headed over to the display.
“This is flight 747 to JFK tower, comin' in for a landing,” a little boy is flying a toy plane around.
“Copy, flight 747. Proceed to runway one-zero-niner and wait for clearance. Psst!” Jake pretended like he was a tower operator.
“Psst! Copy,” the little boy responded.
“I brought Teddy here for the trains, but he's obsessed with flying,” the dad laughed.
“Smart kid. You know, Jake is actually a fighter pilot in the Navy,” Kate told them, walking up with two hot chocolates.
“Whoa,” the kid marveled.
“At your service,” Jake tipped his imaginary hat.
“Do you fly off aircraft carriers?” the boy asked.
“Sure do. But flying off the carrier is the easy part. Landing, that's the hard part,” Jake told him.
“That's so cool! I want to be a Navy pilot!” the kid exclaimed.
“Well, you certainly can if you put the work in. Here. This…” He pulls out a pair of wings that they give to the kids on the cruises from his pocket. “Is for you, eh?” he offered with a smile.
“Whoa! No take-backs?” the kid asked.
“No take-backs, buddy. Promise,” Jake smiled.
“You just made his Christmas. Thank you so much. Have a great holiday,” the dad told him.
“Merry Christmas,” Jake told them as they walked away.
“You know, you were really good with him. And did I just hear you say, "merry Christmas"?” Kate asked.
“Yeah, well, don't tell my shipmates,” Jake told her.
“Oh, no, they'd never believe me. Hey, we should probably go get something to eat, and I know a place that's gonna actually change the way you see Christmas forever,” Kate grinned.
“Mind games, huh?” Jake asked.
“It'll definitely mess with your brain. Come on,” Kate laughed and took his hand in hers.
Christmas music played quietly in the background.
“Brain freeze!” Jake groaned.
“They don't call it the colossal Christmas cocoa for nothing,” Kate laughed.
“We don't mess around here. We take Christmas very seriously. Two burgers coming up,” the waitress told them.
“Thank you. I feel like I don't have a care in the world right now. Honestly, that's not happened very often,” she told Jake.
“That's how I feel when I'm flying my jet over the ocean, those moments when I'm at total peace. Until I realize I have to land on a ship that feels like it's the size of a postage stamp,” Jake laughed.
“Does that ever scare you?” Kate asked and Jake shook his head.
“I love every second of what I do. The adrenaline and the rush… I don't think I'm scared of anything,” he told her.
“Not even Christmas?”
Jake raised a brow. “Christmas? Why would I be scared of Christmas?” he asked.
“I'm just sayin', it… Kind of seems like you've been running away from it,” she told him.
“What do you mean?”
“Based on what you told me earlier, it seemed like maybe your parents got divorced shortly after your trip here,” she said simply.
“Yeah, well, after that, it was mostly mom and me at Christmas. Just wasn't the same without my family together. Just couldn't really see the magic in the holiday anymore,” Jake shrugged.
“I'm sorry.”
Jake waved her off.
“And I'm also sorry 'cause I totally judged you,” Kate apologized.
“It's okay. I know I can be a bit of a Christmas curmudgeon,” Jake nodded.
“A bit?” Kate teased.
“Mmhmm,” Jake laughed.
“Well, it's okay. If I wave my merry magic wand, maybe you'd think about embracing some new Christmas memories,” Kate tried.
“Hmm? Like what?” he asked.
“Like, you know, today, we… You made the little boy smile at the train show, right?” Jake hummed in response.
“He met his hero. And we saw the world's most adorable dance troupe, and I wasn't gonna say anything, but it appears that you actually took a bite of your candy cane,” Kate told him.
“I don't know what you're talking about,” Jake hid the candy cane.
“I haven't had this much fun in a long time,” he told her.
“Good!” Kate smiled.
“You're amazing.”
Kate tilted her head questioningly.
“The way you made me imagine our day like a living scrapbook. You really have a way with words,” Jake clarified.
“Well, I'm a writer. So…”
“You're much more than that,” Jake told her, and it felt like he was looking into her soul.
Her phone started buzzing and Kate smiled apologetically before reading the text messages.
“It's my mom. Oh, my gosh, we have to go. It's 7:30!” Jake’s eyes widened and then they were both collecting their jackets.
“Uh, sorry! Forget the burgers!” Kate called to the server.
“Sorry. Here you go! Merry Christmas,” Jake added, placing money down on the table.
“Yeah, merry Christmas! Sorry!” The two of them ran out.
“Taxi! Taxi!” Kate yelled and it only took a moment before one pulled up and they got in.
“Pier 90,” Jake told the driver.
“We're almost there,” Kate groaned as they got stuck in traffic with 10 minutes till the ship left.
“We're never gonna make it. Maybe we should run,” Jake suggested.
“Run?!”
“Yeah. We can do it. Come on!”
Jake was handing the driver money and climbing out of the taxi. He took Kate’s hand and they began running.
“Go, go, go, go!” he encouraged.
“You're crazy! Whoa! Excuse us! Sorry!” Kate yelled as they ran by people.
“It's this way! Hi, Santa! Oh, wait. Wait, wait, wait, wait,” Jake had to stop and put some bills in the santa’s bucket.
“Merry Christmas!” he exclaimed as they took off running again.
“You barely made it, Lieutenant,” one of the sailors greeted them as they climbed aboard the ship.
“I can't believe we just ran 15 blocks,” Kate panted, trying to catch her breath.
“I know,” Jake laughed.
“Thank you for today. You know, for all the memories. The new ones.”
Kate smiled.
“You're welcome, Jake.”

Sticking to the Landing
Figure it out he says, Gordon whined to himself as he made the trek up the stairs, repeating Scott's instructions as he went. Off rotation, off the island, they just had to go somewhere and relax for at least seventy-two hours. For Gordon and his brothers, that was easier said than done.
At the top of the stairs, his destination was a straight shot past their bedrooms and to their own personal workspaces. The thought of stopping in his own sanctuary to unpackage a new box of reclaimed gadgets from the early two-thousands was halted by the time-line big brother had given him.
Passing his sticker-covered door, Gordon found the one he'd been aimed to infiltrate, unable to help a smile as he contemplated knocking. Who would he be if he changed it up now? Not Gordon Tracy, that was for sure.
Hitting the code he shouldn't know, the door to Virgil's studio slid open. With the intent of an annoying little brother, he called out, "Hey, Virgil!"
Virgil startled, his brush hovering a millimeter from a fresh canvas, and it was only well honed reflexes that kept him from flinching and ruining the piece he’d only just started. The sketch foretold a cityscape, sharp lines and angles, without the fluidity of his landscapes, but as certain fish had no respect for his privacy or his time, he’d only gotten as far as shapeless base colors.
He sighed. Deeply.
He hadn’t really wanted the down time in the first place, not with the fact they’d already be down with Gordon out of commission. But if Scott was going to force him to take it, he planned on going no further than his own sanctuary, not far from where he could keep an eye on his errant younger brother. He could make his own fun easily, and it had been a long time since he’d been able to find himself in the place of creativity uninterrupted.
“Squid,” he acknowledged, ignoring for the moment that Gordon knew his key code. Virgil twirled his brush in a cup of water and let it rest there on the table with his palette, before turning to his sibling. The grays of the city in his mind dissipated with the onslaught of the neon orange of the cast at Gordon’s wrist.
One he’d put there with his negligence.
“Scott catch you? How’s the pain today?”
Shrugging off the expected concern that his medic brother had a hard time suppressing, Gordon waved the restrained limb. "Pain's all good. Doesn't even itch." As if to contradict his own statement, a tingling sensation ran across the skin of his forearm and prompted his other hand to try to ease it away. "Okay, it itches a little, but nothing I can't handle."
His broken wrist was the least of their worries, anyway. Gordon had grown up with his fair share of wrist fractures from all the adventures on a Kansas farm. They were likely the reason for the break after a short fall through the open cargo hold of a sinking ship.
The real problem… "So, whacha workin' on?" …could wait a little longer.
"Just experimenting." Virgil glanced over at his painting. It was a lot easier to explain it that way rather than walking the aquanaut through his actual creative process, which sometimes felt a little backward even in his own head. “Want to tell me what was worth breaking and entering for?”
"Technically, I didn't break anything," Gordon teased, preparing himself for the real reason he'd invaded. "But, I did run into Scott. He actually wanted to talk to both of us, so I told him I could relay the message."
"Uh? How about my peace and quiet?"
"Well, about that…" He shoved his good hand into his pocket, rocking back on his heels to lean against the wall. "Big bro thinks we'd have more peace and quiet off the island. Y'know, like a vacation."
"A vacation?" He raised his eyebrow. "With you?"
The general consensus among Tracy's was that Gordon was both the most fun and the most dangerous to be with during downtime. Virgil didn't mind the spontaneity the way it seemed to short-circuit John, or even Scott, but where Virgil's idea of spontaneous meant following the sunset with his paints, Gordon's ideas meant a festival or a party.
Been there, done that. Virgil did not want to relive college.
But also, Gordon was his copilot, and their time together lately had been quite specific to the rescue business. Virgil didn't remember the last time he was on the receiving end of an epic Gordon Tracy maritime rant, and that was a stark reminder of how busy they'd been lately.
Perhaps of how overworked, and a bit careless. Resulting in injured wrists.
"What did you have in mind?" Virgil smiled, repressing his sigh in favor of moving forward instead of focusing on his mistakes.
"Well, anywhere with water would be my first choice, but with this thing," Gordon waved the cast with a grimace, "I'd be more annoyed than relaxed. You have any ideas?"
“There are other places to relax,” Virgil responded, coming up beside him to clasp the back of his neck and rub where Gordon kept his stress. Being barred from the water meant he lacked his usual outlets, and a cooped up Gordon was a fish wound tight. "Pick a mountain range. Or a city?"
His shoulders drooped under the easing pressure on his underused muscles. Missing his morning laps was taking its toll. Sure, he could walk the island, but that lacked the intensity he was used to. So where on Earth could they go that offered more than what they already had on Tracy island?
"As much as I love a picturesque mountain range, I'm not as good at sitting still and enjoying it as you are. Maybe a city? Which one though?" The hustle and bustle would definitely keep them occupied, but there was always the security risk that would drive Kayo into a tizzy. Gordon's box of disguises hadn't eased her worries about the last trip they'd planned either.
"Somewhere we've been?" Virgil asked. "Or somewhere new? What about a place chosen at random. You like surprises."
Random? The word snagged on his mind and pulled him up from the flurry of ideas Gordon had been trying to narrow down.
Pushing off the wall, he caught his brother's eye with a look of mischief and a grin to match. "Random, huh? I think I've got an idea. C'mon." Without waiting, the blonde stepped past his co-pilot, his attempt the upper level of the lounge.
“Dubious." But, by the time Virgil could finish the word, Gordon was long gone from the studio, and only Virgil’s art supplies were nearby to hear him sigh.
He stepped into the hallway, following after the flash of neon from Gordon's cast, and listening for the cadence of footsteps he knew better than his own.
The bounce was back in his step.
That was the thing Virgil admired most about his brother. He was never knocked down for long.
Virgil followed him to the top floor of the lounge where, in a rare turn of circumstances, it was empty for once.
Gordon knew exactly where he would find what they needed, the ancient books surrounding it like walls of protection. His good hand pushed one set aside while his fingers protruding from his cast snagged the folded paper.
"Got it!" He announced with a wiggle of the parchment before clumsily unfolding it. A map, certainly an antique now, but definitely used often enough by their grandparents before the invention of GPS offered a view of the globe. "We can use darts or something. Random enough?"
“You want us to throw darts at a map?” Virgil raised an eyebrow. “And just go wherever it lands?”
That would be super random, even for him. Even for Gord- no, actually that was the exact type of random it seemed Gordon needed. A place where they wouldn't have time to stress about planning, wherever the wind took them. His bewilderment curled into a smile thinking that John would certainly lecture him that he would be letting gravity and physics make decisions for him. And not, in fact, the earthen breeze.
"I know where we can get darts." There was a set in Scott's private office near a poked through poster of corporate names their elder brother kept hung on the wall after stressful negotiations. Virgil even caught a Fischler and Lemaire on there at one point, but the names had been bulls-eyed into oblivion.
Barging into Scott's office was more Gordon's speed, so Virgil held up a hand to stop Gordon behind him before he entered. He held up a finger to his lips and gestured for Gordon to wait there.
With the creaking of the door, Scott eyed him warily, the earpiece linked to the computers flashing green in use. Don't ask Virgil mouthed, knowing Scott would get the gist.
He returned to the hall victorious, shutting the door behind him silently before Gordon's inevitable whoop could reach the ears of those on the other side of Scott's call.
"Awww spoil sport," Gordon teased at the obvious attempt at keeping big brother's meeting professional. "C'mon, we can set it up in my room." With the map tucked under his arm, the blonde led the way back up the stairs, past their bedrooms and to his studio, the stickered door sliding open without a keycode. Gordon liked to keep his space unlocked, ready to entertain any of his brother's who dared to venture in.
Inside, a stack of boxes were evident from the hallways glow. As he flicked on the light, the rest of the room came into view. The boxes had been leaned against the first of three shelving units, each housing trinkets he'd bought from treasure hunters. Some were his own finds, but that was a secret he'd learned to keep between himself and the crew he traveled with. Despite what his brother's thought of the hobby, Gordon took great strides to ensure junk yard owners were aware and compensated for the time spent on hunts.
The walls beyond held other types of treasures - trophies and ribbons that spanned the entire space. From his first races to his last, the little ribbon held just as much importance as the gold.
Further in were Gordon's tanks and he stopped briefly to check on his two new reef fish he'd discovered struggling to survive after one was injured and the other a host for a parasite. Another week and they'd be good to go back home.
The last wall held maps, none like the one under his arm, however. These held currents and ocean geographical locations. Pins and scribbled notes were dotted all around it in a rudimentary pattern of research. Of course, Gordon had the holographic maps with precise data, but there was always something nice about doing things the old way, just for the experience. It was as good a place as any to set up their game of vacation darts.
"Alright, let me do that," Virgil said, rolling his eyes fondly as Gordon fumbled with the map despite his cast. Once it was in hand, Virgil tacked it up with some of the already existing pins overtop Gordon's research. "You sure this won't mess up your studies?"
"They'll be fine," he smiled at the consideration of his work. "Plenty of holes already, shouldn't hurt to add a few more. Bonus points if we land one in a pin!" Gesturing to the map, his grin widened, "Age before beauty."
Right. Trust Gordon to turn it into another challenge. Virgil stepped back for a better view, making sure the map display was straight and sturdy. His gaze lingered on the tanks and displays as he turned back to his brother. On anyone else that mischievous grin would look like someone up to no good. On Gordon, it looked like a Tuesday.
“I’m not entirely convinced that you wouldn’t just aim for the ocean on principle. Nearest island city if we land in the drink?” he proposed, satisfied when Gordon nodded. Despite Gordon’s enthusiasm for random, Virgil secretly hoped they did land near a populated area if not for Gordon’s sanity, for his own. Entertaining a bored Gordon was not among the top of his resume.
The plan was to each throw a dart to find their options, and then they’d choose between the two. Internally, Virgil knew he wouldn’t be doing any choosing. It was Gordon who was injured and needing the change of scenery.
Virgil felt the weight of the darts in each of his palms and practiced the motion without releasing them to decide which throw felt more appropriate for his hands. He didn’t have Gordon’s sharpshooting aim, but he did have an advantage being ambidextrous.
Except, Gordon’s cast was on his dominant hand.
“Hold these,” he ordered, handing the darts to his brother, as he then stripped off his outer flannel and rolled the fabric up lengthwise so that it could fit around his head and then some. The longest point was the wingspan of the sleeves, which he tied behind his head as the world went dark. “Spin me.”
The sheer joy he felt at this turn of events left Gordon stunned for a moment, unable to take his eyes off his brother. It was only a short pause before he took full advantage of what Virgil had given him and began carefully turning him on the spot. At about the tenth turn - and a low grunt that told him that was plenty - Gordon positioned his brother back to facing his target.
Taking a step back to give Virgil plenty of room, he cheered, "You're all set!"
"See if I trust you ever again," Virgil mumbled while his stomach settled, though it was not packed with any heat. He knew what he was getting into by offering, and though his body rebelled at the spinning in his brain, he smiled at the laughter vibrating from the fish beside him.
Without thinking too much about it, he let the dart fly knowing that it was in Gordon's best interests to make sure he was facing the right way. It would be his own valuables at stake if he'd attempted any other trickery.
The small dart gave a satisfying thunk as it pierced through paper and corkboard. Virgil lifted the makeshift blindfold from his eyes, the curiosity getting the better of him while the world swam as it came back into view. Gordon was laughing beside him.
"Where'd I hit?"
Calming his laughter enough to speak, the blonde pointed, "In the ocean, just to the left of Tracy island. Not sure Scott would go for that one." Stepping forward, he nudged his brother out of the way. "I'll go and then you can try again."
Taking one of the darts, Gordon tried positioning it in the fingers protruding from his cast, finding his dexterity greatly inhibited. A noted glare from the medic beside him and he begrudgingly switched the dart to his left hand. For only a second, he considered the blindfold, but with his handicaps, he'd be lucky just to hit the wall. No, this was fair.
Aiming towards a small patch of islands he knew fondly for their beaches and street food, Gordon aimed and threw. The dart arced, bypassing the islands and landing to the left, of the coast of India.
"Ooh, it's been a while since we went to Sri Lanka. Alright, Virg, your turn."
Virgil accepted the dart and lowered his flannel blindfold for an attempt to land somewhere other than Tracy Island.
Over the next few minutes, they landed numerous pinpricks over the map, from Tokyo to Chicago, and had managed to plan their next three trips for times off duty.
Gordon was mid-turn on a dizzied Virgil when Scott came knocking on the door. He swiftly entered, knowing Gordon kept his study a welcoming space. After evaluating the scene - the world map on the wall, his darts a murder over Europe, his brother blindfolded with his own shirt - Scott sighed deeply, rubbing at his temples.
"What is going on in here?"
So wrapped up in the fun of spinning his co-pilot, Gordon startled with a quick laugh, "Oh, Hey, Scott! Um, well, we couldn't decide where to go for vacation, so we're leaving it up to darts and a map." He gestured to the wall in excitement. "You'll be pleased to know it's very productive."
"Hmm. Well, don't throw that yet, Virgil," Scott warned. He ducked under the path of Virgil's questionable aim and collected a number of his darts. "I'm going to need these back after the call I just had."
After a beat, he turned back towards them, flicked one of the darts into position and let it fly toward the world. "Actually, I'd rather come with you."
