i'm guessing stucky is losing because of comic fans; it's kinda weird to change a relationship from weird father/son/brother (like most sidekicks) especially since bucky was a minor in 616
this ask is... baffling me
so one of tumblr's big ships is suddenly losing because of comics that happened before the MCU? because of purity culture and anti reasons? that sounds very weird to me.
like, i've never read the comics, so i don't really know shit about Stucky in them (i do know that a lot of Stony shippers like the comics (since i'm a Stony shipper myself), and that a lot of people prefer comic!Clint to MCU!Clint, but that's about it), but Stucky has been huge on tumblr for, idk, well over a decade?
but it's the comic fans that's making them lose now? it has nothing to do with Griddlehark or The Locked Tomb? or that it's a long time since the Stucky shippers got anything new from MCU? did purity culture brainwash the entirety of the marvel fandom, or what happened?
idk, i'm just baffled.
anyway, if it is the comic fans that's making Stucky lose, then boo on them.

sorry i missed this for so long!
This is heavily supported by text/subtext and is likely what the creators intended for me to get from this
hmm well bisexual valkyrie is canon in the comics and will be made canon in the mcu in the new movie, but as of ragnarok it was just implied so idk if that counts? but i don’t really have a better one fjfjdj
this is sort of supported by the text and could, conceivably be what the creators intended for me to get from the text/subtext
carol and maria were together, she was like a second mom to monica when she was around
there is no evidence either way
when sam talks about his old partner riley dying, bucky was the one who shot him down as the winter soldier
there is slight evidence against my headcanon, but I don’t care
tony is trans
I’ve stopped giving a crap about canon
tbh i can’t think of much for this one- i guess that loki always knew deep down that he was adopted, he just didn’t want to admit it to himself so he could feel like a part of his family (which he didn’t anyway /lh)

Have you ever thought about writing a Stucky Mafia au?
I have. I actually have. Reservoir Dogs got me early. There's something heart-wrenchingly homoerotic about bleeding out in the arms of another man while he cradles you tenderly, knowing that the cops are coming and it's all over but at least you'll have these final moments together, because this end was inevitable when you realized you couldn't live within the law. It's very very gay.
There's a pre-Code movie my wife showed me with, IDK, Jimmy Cagney and someone else, and they're BFFs in the orphanage and then one of them ends up a priest and Cagney goes into the mob, and Cagney shows up at the priest's door all like "They're coming for me!" and the priest Saves him and nurses him back to health and then the cops/rival mob end up killing the priest. (She has informed me that these are two different movies. They all kinda blend together.)
Then there's the question of ethnicity. I'm pretty sure the MCU supplemental comics had them both Irish Catholic, but also growing up in the same orphanage. A lot of fanon has them Jewish. I like whatever works for the story, so it's a matter of figuring out aspect of gang politics I want to highlight.
The Purple Gang got along surprisingly well with a lot of other syndicates. Capone bought their whiskey and used their muscle. And both Jews and Italians were welcome in Murder, Inc., the enforcement arm of the New York Mafia headed up by Bugsy Siegel. And I know that Bugsy and the Purples were tight because I got family pictures. Bugsy didn't seal the deal with Lucky Luciano until the conference in 1931 when they teamed up to take down the supremacy of the Sicilian mob in NYC, though.
The Irish mob in Detroit was kind of a mess, though. They couldn't really get into rumrunning because, uh, the Purps had a lock on it and also they just didn't have the leadership. They mostly did kidnapping.
Anyway, I can see Bucky getting into the life, but Steve wouldn't be okay with it. Tragic ending involving the Purple Gang. Maybe I'll actually finish it.

I completely understand the concern about Bucky being on a team with the Thunderbolts. In the comics, they're mostly known for being reformed villains who are still known for being really brutal. Bucky has already proven himself a hero and an Avenger, he doesn't need to be with the Thunderbolts
I’ve got a lot to say about this and it might be incomprehensible bc when I rant, I typically get bad at articulating my points but anyways, I agree and here’s all the extra shit I think.
You’re totally right about the Thunderbolts members being “brutal”, more violent and unconcerned with how ethical their methods of doing things are. Which is expected for former villains and anti-heroes. I know in the comics Bucky was actually a thunderbolts member, I think he may have even been their leader at some point. Which good, great, that’s all fine and dandy in the comics but it wouldn’t work on screen.
Comics Bucky and MCU Bucky are very very very different in many ways, but one of them being that (as far as I know anyways) Comics Bucky is much more brutal and violent. He was more, for lack of better term, corrupted by Hydra than MCU Bucky. It makes sense for that version of him to be in the Thunderbolts, he was good for the comic, he’s fit to be there.
Our adaptation of Bucky is not. As you mentioned, he’s well proven himself to be a hero by now, and is literally named to be an avenger (ie: Walker calling him one) but also it’s just not adjacent with his characterization. MCU Bucky isn’t as rough edged as his comic counter part nor the other proposed members of the Thunderbolts.
I mean for one, the dude literally pulls his punches (to the point where dude-bro fans were saying TFATWS nerfed him) and is cautious of others around him. His whole thing is “not wanting to kill/really hurt anyone”. Even when he loses his temper with Zemo, he’s all bark no bite. And not to insult my beloved, but he’s also kinda a push over at times. I mean, take the whole scene in Riga (? is that where? idk correct me if wrong) with Walker. Literally Walker said one kinda offensive thing to Bucky and he literally went 🥺, backed down, and brought Walker to Sam. This man does not fit in with the fighting styles and general personalities of the other reformed villains. Bucky as a person over all is way too soft hearted, self-sacrificial, and humble, even if he has that whole “asshole” front. Bucky might make some questionable choices occasionally but overall everything he does is for the benefit of others.
He doesn’t fit with characters like Zemo or Walker or Abomination. He doesn’t even fit with Ava Starr because though she’s good, she’s let selfish (though very justified I just use that word for point) reasons make her willingly violent. Even Yelena, who I don’t consider a reformed villain, is much more brutal, chaotic, and risky than Bucky despite being a good person. Also, in major contrast to everyone else, this dude doesn’t even want to fight, he doesn’t want to do this job but does because he’s needed. He does because he’s stuck being super human and can put that to use.
The whole thing with Thunderbolts characters is that they’re supposed to be morally grey, but that’s not Bucky. Maybe on a surface level if his character isn’t being payed attention to but truly, he has a damn strong moral compass to have Ben through all that he has and not let it corrupt him. The dude not only goes out of his way to never become that again or never make any mistakes adjacent to what the winter soldier was, but he actively blames and hates himself for what happened. And he tries to CORRECT THESE WRONGS even though he truly isn’t responsible. I mean the fact that he doesn’t just say “not my fault” and move on, shows how strong his moral code is.
Also how would they even manage to lump Bucky in with them plot wise in a way that makes sense? He sure as fuck wouldn’t willingly work for the government and he even calls himself a “free agent” in TFATWS. Also he’s very clearly in with Sam, and is jumping at the chance to be on his team. He such a high amount of respect and admiration for Sam that it wouldn’t even make sense for him to go work with another group. Which yeah, he could do both, but it’s not like he’s friends with these people either? He hates Zemo and Walker, he doesn’t know the rest, and let’s be real, Bucky’s not someone who’s all that open to new friendships and socializing. If Val tried to recruit him, he’d find her sus immediately because he’s already an untrusting person but Val literally reeks of shadiness.
Like it just doesn’t work. Sorry for ranting so much but it’s just so stupid that he’d be lumped in with a group like this despite every aspect of his characterization going against it. So I truly hope whoever’s running shit up at marvel notices this and is like “hey Bucky is not a good idea let’s scrap that” and find someone else.
(Disclaimer: I’m not at all saying Bucky isn’t badass or trying to baby him. I know he’s a damn good fighter who’s capable of a lot and I know he’s a grown ass man that can handle shit.)

why don't you care for pacifist Bucky?
to clarify for starters i don’t think it’s like. disparaging to him to label him as a pacifist it’s just not something i agree with. but here’s why!
Tumblr media
so the definition of pacifism is pretty much a person that’s against violence generally, but sometimes war in particular. which idk if people noticed this but ... tfa bucky is not adverse to violence. we are introduced to bucky by him literally coming in and kicking a guy in the ass to get him off of steve, saying “pick on someone your own size” aka him. he wins that fight with a single punch and kicks him for good measure. that’s violence. violence for good reason, but still violence used as a problem solving tool (and he looked sexy as hell while doing it).
Tumblr media
him doing this so easily isn’t a coincidence, it’s because mcu bucky is canonically a boxer, something that they sadly haven’t shown on screen yet but that has been interjected into both the tfa prelude comic (that exists to show extensions of mcu events, not 616) and bucky’s character description in the mcu encyclopedia thing i can’t remember the name of. bucky isn’t just a boxer either, he’s a boxing champion. three time champion. a man that is completely adverse to violence would not be punching people for fun- but he doesn’t beat people up needlessly for his own enjoyment either. he just likes to fight, hence why he chooses to compete rather than find people on the street like the jackass that had steve cornered in that alley. he likes to CHOOSE his fights- that’s the important differentiation from what he’s forced to do later down the line.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
one of the most important things that comes with the information about bucky being a boxer is how he uses that skill to help steve train so they can BOTH enlist. and here’s another important thing: it hasn’t been confirmed to my knowledge that mcu bucky was drafted. i know that popular headcanon comes from the number he rattles off in zola’s lab, but that’s the only thing i’ve seen mentioned that points to that. in the first vengeance comic, bucky being a boxer and wanting to enlist is a big motivator for his character. like steve, he doesn’t want to kill people, but he wants to help. bucky is just as much of a fighter as steve is. why else would they be best friends? steve doesn’t crave violence either but he’ll fight hard as hell when he has to. anyways! bucky enlisting is a big part of the tfa prelude and is also mentioned in his encyclopedia entry above + it’s mentioned in his smithsonian exhibit as well. i’m well aware that the exhibit has the typo on his birth/death years (they’re both off by one) but the other information is taken to be reliable so... you can make your own choice. i don’t believe mcu bucky was drafted but i also don’t think that matters much to my general point about why i don’t think he’s a pacifist.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
not wanting to be drafted or die in a war is not what makes you a pacifist. a pacifist doesn’t BELIEVE in war or violence no matter the situation, and while again, i don’t think bucky wanted to kill people, i do think that he believed in what they were fighting for. bucky is just as good of a man as steve, and i can’t see him turning his back on wanting to fight nazis even if he was drafted.
Tumblr media
bucky has a lot of lines about how things always seem to end up in a fight for him as well as a couple about how he’s always stuck fighting other men’s wars (side note: i need people to stop blaming bucky being in ww2 on steve seeing as ww2 is not just fucking mcu discourse) but i think that’s a sign not that he doesn’t believe in fighting, but that he’s tired of having to do it for so long. bucky never enjoyed killing people or hurting them. he hated what he did as the solider. he doesn’t want to have to keep being forced into fights, but THAT is the point. bucky wants only to take in fights that he chooses. it’s why he was a boxer. it’s why he was willing to stay with steve during the war even when he probably could have gone home. it’s why he hated what they turned him into so much. it’s why he’s still fighting alongside sam.
bucky barnes has always had the capacity for violence, had always held the ability to hurt people- but the thing about him is that when it’s his choice, he usually doesn’t. he’ll pull the bullies off of steve and break up scuffles in the street. he’ll shoot nazis and beat the shit out of tony for trying to killshot his boyfriend. he’ll do all this because he’s a fighter. he always has been. bucky doesn’t believe in needless violence and he’s tired of always having his hand forced to pick up a gun, but he’s not a pacifist in the sense that he’ll refuse to do what needs to be done. i think it’s naive to act like bucky is some sort of uwu cinnamon roll who would never hurt a fly when- newsflash!- bucky does in fact hurt the bad guys by choice a lot of the time. but as he told steve, he doesn’t kill people anymore now that he isn’t being controlled.
like most things with bucky, what it comes down to is having the ability to choose. does he owe anyone he was forced to hurt as the soldier efforts to apologize or make amends? no. but he chooses to anyways because despite the fact that he knows it wasn’t his fault, he still feels guilty and wants to help those people feel less of a loss. that’s a choice i wish a lot of his stans would respect. and yeah, a choice i wish marvel would explain a lot better on screen because i get it occasionally looks like they’re victim blaming him, but bucky himself has said that he KNOWS what he did all those years wasn’t his fault (see: civil war quinjet to siberia scene) and still feels guilty anyways, hence why making amends is meant to alleviate that. feeling guilt doesn’t automatically mean he doesn’t contain the knowledge that what he did was out of his control. it is therapy 101 that what you feel doesn’t always equate to what you know. god, i got sidetracked again but i guess i’m just saying people need to allow bucky to make his own choices even when they don’t agree with them. it’s his choice to cope with his feelings however he pleases and if he wants to do that by recognizing that his forced actions as the solider hurt more than just him, so be it.
anyways, back to my main point: does bucky need to continue fighting next to sam with the winter solider as his reclaimed mantle? no, but he chooses to anyways because he believes in what sam is fighting for. bucky never chose to be taken by hydra or do what they forced him to do and THAT is the difference between the kind of fight he does and doesn’t want. bucky barnes is not a pacifist. he’s just a person who wants to make his own choices and a man who wants to choose his own cause.

for the 'send me a fandom' meme... MCU :)
the character i least understand - vision
interactions i enjoyed the most- steve and bucky probably or steve and tony and clint and nat. Admittedly though I loved the big team scenes where they all worked on a conflict a lot too.
the character who scares me the most:: uhh...hm. i know most people are gonna say thanos but I think Ego? That dude straight up put a tumor in his girls head. Nah.
the character who is mostly like me: no one character is like me. i’m a mixture of a few probably tony, bucky, and steve
hottest looks character: Steve
one thing i dislike about my fave character: Well my fave is Steve. So probably just that he’s so like all or nothing about things sometimes. Like with not trading lives by just sacrificing vision, we ended up with a bunch of dead people, and a dead vison anyway.
one thing i like about my hated character: uhh...I don’t really have a ‘hated’ character. hate seems a lil extreme my pals.
a quote or scene that haunts me: bucky and steve’s final exchange before he goes back in time and comes back an old fucking man in endgame. Thanks a lot Russos.
a death that left me indifferent: vision. idk what to tell you. Just didn’t care.
a character i wish died but didn’t:  maybe thanos a lot earlier idk fuck that grape.
my ship that never sailed: romantically i’d say stuc/ky ston/y clin/tasha nat and steve is also a good one. Reminder this is an MCU ask for anyone reading. i know some things happened in comics.

How I Would Fix the MCU Movies (in chrono order)
Black Widow is mentioned but there are no spoilers! also this is super long sorry lol
CA:TFA
--More time with the howling commandos- instead of a montage with their battles with sit with them and feel their struggles. we feel not only capt’s grief but everyone on the team when bucky ‘dies’. idk would have loved to see more of a band of bothers bond
Captain Marvel
--I saw/read somewhere that her story could have work really well with a similar structure as CA:TFA and i agree. they were so concerned with making carol look powerful that they forgot to give her the fiery/badass personality we were promised. there was too much telling not enough showing
Iron Man
--Literally Nothing. Perfect. Great Intro to the series.
Iron Man 2
--again really solid movie i wish the villains were a bit more developed by tbh this is my fav iron man movie
The Incredible Hulk
--babes i dont even remember this movie its super cool they keep rossi around from it tho. hes literally the only thing the mcu kept from this monstrosity i would keep a similar plot structure but with mark ruffalo and a better script and tbh a better evrything. cannot tell you where to start with this jesus
Thor
--would have liked to see of the personality thor has later on in the timeline line- but it is interesting to think maybe he developed his humor and friendliness from his time on earth, idk this movie was kinda dull? i mean everything is dull compared to ragnarok and better compared to the dark world so idk how to fix that- maybe less of chris’s weird screaming- definitely less of chris’s screaming
The Avengers
--honestly love this movie-great set up to the team dynamics wouldn’t change anything. i love the nostalgia i get from watching this
Iron Man 3
--another movie i dont really remember but? this is the one with the bunny right? i feel like after iron man 1 the quality of tony’s enemies has gone down hill but i could watch rdj do anything so overall good experience
Thor: The Dark World
--besties what even happened in this movie like, jane babes what are we doing. loki is as amazing as ever tho. but like ‘oh no lokis dead again whatever are we going to do’ i would simply through the whole thing away- keeping jane going to asgard, loki being dramatic, and the relationships of the asgardian gang we get to see. also the reality stone thats pretty important
CA:TWA
--I. Love. This. Movie. my fav in the whole timeline. can you tell im a capt girl? literally the best wow won’t change a thing
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1
--so! much! fun! i love their family dynamics and tbh i love peter quill (we all did until pratt was a dick but)
Guardians Vol. 2
--I wasn’t obsessed with this movie but I cant quite figure out how i would change it- it was visually beautiful and emotionally beautiful but idk something felt off until the very end
Age of Ultron
--hot take- i really like this movie. i like how it completely changes the direction of the series and makes the mcu feel so real, like the friend ship seen- i would have like more clint so his character arc in endgame would have been impactful i dont hate the farm family but man i sure dont love them jesus but yea i love the dialogue and the only thing i would really change is clint’s involve meant. also helen cho deserved to have a bigger part in the mcu
Ant-Man
--super fun! i feel like this movie is great the way it is- a familiar super hero movie when the series was starting to get pretty dense with the lore wont change anything
CA:CW
--i read somewhere this movie was originally going to be steve and sam and the rest of the squad finding bucky and i was robbed. over time the mcu starting telling us how great steve and buckys relationship was instead of showing us. like men can show each other affection marvel that is a thing that happens but tbh i loved this movie- i would change a lot but i still really enjoyed it
Spiderman: Homecoming
--its so cute i love it but I miss andrew garfields peter- he felt more like the comics but besties i love this movie and tom i would just change how ton is characterized to be more comic actuate but also maybe not idk
Doctor Strange
-- tilda swinton owns my heart and sole. but imma be honest i saw this in theaters 3 weeks after a horrid concussion and i remember none of it and thinking about it makes me sick (love head trauma) so imma just leave it how it is
Black Panther
--nothing. its art.
Black Widow
--I’m writing this around an hour after I watched the movie and tbh I dont know how I feel about it. I dont love it yet but im not quite sure why yet- its most likely the pacing it felt a little rushed to me but idk yet ill be able to gather all my thoughts in a later post prolly
Thor: Ragnarok
-- to think i can even dream to improve on anything taika waititi is putting bad karma into the universe. that man is a genius. you can feel just how comfortable everyone is in their characters which makes for a great performance
Ant-Man and the Wasp
--the breather we all needed after iw but i dont think anyone really loved it- no idea how to fix it but yknow it was just bland
Avengers: Infinity War
--I loved it. I loved it so much. obviously there are some bad things here and there but i would not change a thing
Avengers: Endgame
--I hated it. I hated it so much. obviously there are some good things here and there but i would not keep a thing.
(I have in fact written an essay about said topic bc i felt so passionate about it i did not know what else to do)
Spiderman: Far From Home
--I dont know something was off for me with this one- again I think it was a pacign issues but I am not sure how I would change it
I might do the tv shows in another post- but if i do those i want to include the netfilx marvel tv shows as well as the agent carter and agents of shield series(es?)
anyway thank you for reading all of this if you did!

okay episode six of tfatws
just my thoughts throughout :)
Tumblr media
sam <3 sam <3
sam you caring, empathetic, intelligent, handsome mf
also. the show just laid out a whole entire episode, blatantly showing us how fucking perfect sam wilson is for captain america... so stop saying it should be bucky or that it should be any other white man
it is lost on me how some people would still think that way after this
now back to the program... SAM <3
a hero if I’ve ever seen one
things he did here: encouraged a woc to step up and save the helicopter; saved the pilot from getting killed by the other crashing helicopter—and saved anyone else near them from being harmed because physics will tell you it wouldn’t only be the pilot who got hurt by the impact; came to the rescue at the very last minute and saved the truck from falling; chose to not fight karli—like at all; brought her to the medics after she died; and he unapologetically stood up to the politicians about what exactly they’ve been doing wrong
and i really wanna highlight how that scene was written to take place in front of the public and be broadcasted in the news
like I’m glad it happened that way because it gave sam the opportunity to make his introduction as the new captain america to be someone who stands for and with the marginalized communities
I think doing it that way will definitely negate the possible distrust a lot of people would have had if he was introduced (to the public) as a hero who worked for the government or even if he was just merely introduced by the government
like it really emphasizes how in the public eye, sam as captain america will be seen as someone who is more than the typical heroic figures they’ve seen before
and idk maybe I’m jumping to conclusions but I think this’ll *maybe* be important to how civilians will see the avengers in the future? maybe? idk? but yeah
anyway his fit!!! the wings and the shield!!! idk much about storytelling through fight choreography but this man used the shield and the wings very well
Tumblr media
redwing’s back 🥺
sam getting isaiah the recognition he deserves !!!!!!
im really looking forward to seeing how they’re going to introduce eli bradley as a hero in the mcu (I don’t read the comics so idk what happens)
we got like 0.5 seconds torres but I’m excited to see how marvel introduces him as the new falcon as well
zemo’s butler is his hitman wow, the job must pay well. and look at that old mf go
sharon :) now that’s a villain origin story. you guys better say sorry to her before she comes and kills you as the powerbroker—cue criminal by britney spears “but mama I’m in love with a criminal”
so remember episode 3? if zemo hadn’t killed nagel, then he would’ve definitely recognized sharon right? so what was home girl thinking when she strolled into nagel’s lab, trying to get the trio to leave... like surely he would’ve called her out to be the powerbroker then and there right?
I’m excited to see where she appears next cause theres a lot of explaining to do ms sharon carter
okay i wasn’t even gonna talk about john walker because—yikes. but here it is anyway. i didnt like that they made him out to still have morals because he chose to save the van instead of continuing his pursuit on the flag smashers. I mean yeah it’s great that he attempted at saving them because people change(?) or whatever but he’s still sus because he’s working with valentina—whose intentions are still ambiguous... point is, while I think that it’s a great way to make his character more complicated and have more layers in the situation where they decide to bring him further into the mcu, imo it’ll worsen the john walker empathizers because they have something “good” to say about him
okay back to sharon, so it’s unclear to me whether she was pardoned because sam helped her or because of the fact that she killed karli. if it’s actually the latter then,,, that itches me. like it only shows that the senator didn’t listen to sam and only continued to antagonize karli to the point where he pardoned her killer, instead of trying to understand where she was coming from when sam confronted him about it
is karli really dead? I know she got shot but where? and if it’s just in the stomach, she should been fine right because she’s a super soldier? Idk but ig the storyline is over... unless
anyway, bucky when he got thanked for saving them from the truck on fire :’(
bucky with kids
i overlooked this in the last episode because it happened there as well, but bucky letting his metal arm be exposed in sam’s hometown is just :’)... like tell me you feel at home without telling me you feel at home :(
bucky finally giving yori closure on his sons death
also, I know it’s just a bodily reaction or whatever, but the way that bucky’s eyes dilated when he watched sam confront the politicians
(28:52)
Tumblr media
(29:59)
Tumblr media
it’s very minimal, but it’s there
okay I don’t know if this happened in an earlier scene, but at 09:46 the when subtitles said “[captain america grunts]” I was like HELL YEAH CAPTAIN AMERICA DID GRUNT!! YES HE DID INDEED GRUNT 👏👏👏
sam taking pictures with people from his hometown because he’s now officially a hero they can rely on 😭
:’) captain america <3
at the end credits when it said “captain america and the winter soldier” I just <3
also, i’ve seen some fans be disappointed that it didn’t say captain america and the white wolf and tbh I’m glad it did not say that
while i do love bucky as well and appreciate that his character was supposed to put the winter soldier behind him because it’s not who he is anymore and just make amends with the people that he hurt,
i think it would’ve been too premature to have him be introduced as the white wolf, especially since he only finished crossing out the names just this episode—and I think it would’ve been too random like I don’t see how the writers could’ve slipped that in, in an episode as packed as this one was to have a significant impact on the audience and the character
and not to mention, I definitely think that him being introduced as the white wolf in tandem to sam being introduced as captain america, would’ve taken away from sam’s moment.
like it’s not news that most of the fans who loveee bucky will literally fall on their knees and worship to extremes every little thing that happens to him. and like I understand that, i get it, but his fans would have—for sure—taken the moment away from our boy sam wilson, the ✨captain america✨
I think bucky’s official introduction as the white wolf warrants another story to be told
so it’s valid to be upset by that, I’m not hating on any bucky stans or anything. I simply disagree and hope that you guys don’t complain about it too much to the point where it takes away from sam lol
and honestly, it’ll come eventually anyway so yeah
the ending where sam and bucky just look off into the sunset made me cackle idk why but it’s great they finally get to have a serene moment together
I’m so proud of anthony!!! I can’t wait to see how sam/captain america continues on in the mcu
anyway, give it up for captain america and the winter soldier 👏
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and I have the sudden urge to go sight seeing
so brb I’m gonna book a flight to paris and see the eiffel tower

The Black Widow movie...
I absolutely loved the first fifteen minutes. They were just beautiful.
The rest however… *heavy sigh*
Don’t get me wrong. I wanted to love the film as a whole and without reservations. I do love some parts of the film. There are many fantastic aspects to it. I love Natasha. I love Yelena. I love Melina. Some of the shots were very pretty. The set-design was great. I love we (kinda) found out what happened in Budapest. I love how many female characters there are in this movie, and some of the fight scenes were a lot of fun.
I’ve waited for a Black Movie film since at the very least 2013. And when I saw the first few minutes I was all “nothing that will happen can take this glorious opening away again.” 😭
Unfortunately it feels as though the original creative vision as it is presented in the first quarter of an hour was watered down by concessions to the Marvel action formula, i.e. unnecessary comic relief and even more unnecessary, dragged-out action sequences like the rooftop/car chase and the prison break/freak avalanche and then the never-ending showdown as the Red Room (HQ) explodes.
I’m not against action scenes. Actually, I love action scenes. But either in moderation, or they have to contribute something to the plot, otherwise they’re just redundant and, well, boring. We already got a few minutes of Natasha and Yelena fighting when the Black Widows show up and the fight goes on, and then “Taskmaster” shows up again, and at this point I was already getting tired of it. Like, we know the characters won’t die and they’re not fighting against characters they have any sort of personal connection with or even just antagonists with an agenda – so why should we care?
I wanted the film to be utterly heart-wrenching, but they never let us feel that after the intro. Like, the fact they gloss over all the extreme violence of the Black Widow training by using a miracle chemical as a plot device to explain why they’re all mind-controlled – that felt oddly sanitized to me. And it’s basically all we get to know about the current Black Widow programme.
“Taskmaster”, or rather Taskmistress seems like she only is another diversion. At first she’s mostly gimmicky with the copy cat behaviour. And then we’re supposed to feel something about the reveal that she is a cyborg-version of the girl Natasha sacrificed to get to Dreykov. But that particular subplot was so underdeveloped that I found it difficult to care. Especially since Taskmistress never gets to be anything but another murder doll and the person Antonia never makes an appearance.
I’ve seen people draw comparisons with CA:TWS, and one of the more interesting aspects of that movie was much of the story revolved around Bucky breaking out of the mind control through his connection to Steve. I would have loved to see any form of self-awareness from Antonia, or get a bit of backstory on her character, instead of, well, avalanches and explosions. In the end her whole story line only existed to create a bit of a half-baked redemption arc for Natasha.
The real villain was supposed to be Dreykov anyway, but… again, TWS-comparison: when Alexander Pierce and the STRIKE team were revealed to be the modern, sleeker version of HYDRA, it was easy to connect them to the larger story arc and fill in the gaps. (Obviously, since then we got a ton of excellent fiction about them, so that probably colours my judgement quite a bit.)
The Red Room however was barely mentioned in the MCU before. (There’s a flashback in one of the movies… the first Avengers film?) And then, in Black Widow, a movie that should be explicitly about this topic, all we get is a music video and another flying headquarters to fall out of the sky? (Also gets a bit old tbh.)
I mean – what exactly are the motives behind the Black Widow programme. The cold war is long over in ‘95. What are they doing apart from kidnapping girls and turning them into murder dolls? Why are they doing it? What’s the goal? What’s the ideology?
All we get for an answer is Dreykov is the mastermind of it all and he’s a power hungry sociopath and he also used to be a general at some point.
Which is a bit ???
I fucking love Ray Winston, and I would have loved to hate Dreykov or hated to love him or however it goes with villains, but instead I felt nothing. Because the film didn’t give me anything to love or hate.
He barely made an appearance before the end of the film by which you were already expected to hate him. But we were never shown a reason why we should hate him. (Unless you count him killing one of the Widows after she became useless to him – but since neither Yelena nor Natasha were emotionally attached to her that didn’t leave much of an impact.) We were mostly told to. In the credits montage. In conversations between Natasha and Yelena. In conversations between Natasha and Melina.
Perhaps it’s too much to ask but I really, really wanted to know more about Natasha’s backstory and the film skirted around that A LOT. Maybe they thought it’d be too exploitative, idk. But when it comes to character development and plot, we’ve got more reasons to hate Alexei and Melina for betraying Natasha and Yelena than we have reasons to hate Dreykov. Which is not ideal.
Oh, and last but not least, probably my biggest pet peeve with the film: I don’t get why they chose to replace the Ohio-version of Alexei (competent, serious, tough, and from the looks of it a caring father and husband) with sad clown!Red Guardian making sexist jokes and being essentially useless. Also, why give them all a funny Russian accent when they used to be apparently quite proficient in English?
The comic relief ruins so much of the wonderful atmosphere the movie built in the beginning. Whyyy?
In the end it boils down to the problem I have with almost all action movies: the actual plot and character development is cut short to make room for gratuitous chases and shoot-outs and things exploding. And I’ll have to rely on fanfic writers to answer my burning questions and spin gold from straw again and makes sense of all the loose ends and underdeveloped ideas and… I can’t really complain about that, but then I feel Marvel could do a lot better...

Top 5 Nat moments
because I apparently hate myself I’m going to do what I did for Wanda and Loki when I did this and go with both comics and MCU moments.
COMICS
1. When she meets Laura Kinney and offers to train her (X-23 #20). I will never, ever not be bitter about the fact that we didn’t get Marjorie Liu’s series with the all female team (Black Widow, X-23, Mystique, and Electra), because augh. Could’ve had it all. But anyway, these panels:
Tumblr media
This is Natasha, who has a history of being exploited and controlled by others, reaching out to a young woman who is coming out of her own history of (even more) exploitation and control, who is figuring out who she is and that she’s a person and not just a weapon for other people. It’s Natasha offering mentorship to her. And there’s something just…very powerful about that - about a character who often works on her own, and is certainly perceived as a loner, reaching out to another character and offering her guidance.
This is also in the context of her stepping in as part of breaking up a sex trafficking operation, which ties into another aspect of Natasha’s characterization in comics that I’ll get into later.
2. The whole interrogation in a fridge scene (Black Widow #4). I mean, the entirety of Name of the Rose (again, Marjorie Liu, she’s amazing) is a favorite moment, but this particular section will always stand out to me.
Tumblr media
There’s a great essay about it over at @fuckyeahblackwidow, talking about how it plays with Natasha being literally in a fridge (a woman in a refrigerator, anyone?) and remaining totally in control of the situation throughout, ultimately turning it to her own advantage and revealing that getting here was part of her plan all along. It’s just gloriously done. I wrote an essay on a set of two panels from this scene for my art history class in college. It was great.
3. “I pick regret and kindness and mercy.” (Black Widow: Deadly Origin #4). I wouldn’t call this series as a whole ‘good’ but this part does always get me. I think because it has to do with the theme of choice, which I talk about a lot in my Black Widow Manifesto (linked below); the idea of being a hero not being part of an identity or something natural or automatic, but being a choice that’s made over and over again.
That for Natasha, it’s her very past as a villain that makes her very aware of that choice, and how deliberate it has to be. The context of this specific bit is that a character has just basically accused her of being an opportunist who doesn’t care about right or wrong - that she just picks sides based on whoever she likes best at the time. And this is her counter.
It’s that last part that always sticks out to me: “I pick regret and kindness and mercy.” Because it’s all things that are “soft.” That can be seen as “weak.” And this is Natasha decisively claiming them as hers - something that she’s chosen, and always will continue to choose.
Tumblr media
4. The one where she goes toe to toe with Red Skull (Avengers #386). I didn’t read this one until recently when I tripped over it in my full readthrough of the first volume of the Avengers comics (starting in 1963). And when I did, let me tell you, I was thrilled.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mean, there it is, right there. Red Skull has been beating up other Avengers for most of this issue, taking them down one at a time, and Natasha knows that. And here he is calling her the weakest of them all, and she’s absolutely ready and going to throw down. Unafraid, and defiant, and scornful. I love it. I love it.
5. Any of the times Natasha stands up for women/girls. I won’t put all the scans in this post, but I’ll just choose one of them:
Tumblr media
This is a theme throughout Natasha’s appearances - the way that she relates to other women and will step in to help them when they’re in danger. Natasha has a reputation both in and out of universe for being cold and aloof, but the fact is that she has a very deep and very strong compassionate and protective streak, particularly for other women, particularly for other women specifically in danger from men/the patriarchy.
Whatever the perception of Natasha, or even, a lot of times, her self perception, she’s someone who has a great deal of heart for the people around her, and will always step up for the vulnerable.
Want a general “why I love comics!Natasha” manifesto with more favorite moments? Hey, I’ve got one for you.
MCU
It is too bad I am writing this before the actual Black Widow movie comes out when I could hopefully have all of these moments be from that. BUT in the meantime!
1. “Did I step on your moment?” There are three Winter Soldier moments on this list, and that is because, whatever my weird resentments toward Winter Soldier and the way fandom treats it, it is a movie that was really good for Natasha. And this is such a good one.
It’s in a scene where Robert Redford is building toward his grand conclusion, is certain of his own victory, is at the top of his game - and then there’s Natasha. Stepping on his moment, having been standing in the room in disguise the whole time.
2. “The truth is a matter of circumstances. It’s not all things to all people all the time, and neither am I.” This whole conversation with Steve is one of those ‘character defining’ moments I think about a lot, because it’s that dynamic of Natasha being a chameleon, and being very aware of the malleability of truth. Natasha lives in a world of shades of grey - not in terms of morality, even, necessarily, but in terms of definitions. Selfhood is flexible, identity is flexible, nothing is truly permanent or stable. Nothing lasts forever.
And that’s something Natasha is very much at peace with. It’s part of her survival, and it’s also just part of how she sees the world. It’s a sadness, in some ways - but it’s also a strength. Natasha’s ability to be flexible is one of the things that gives her an advantage and makes her a survivor. She adapts, she changes to suit a situation. It’s not a matter of being ‘two-faced’ or whatever - it’s a matter of understanding that identity isn’t singular or unidimensional.
Natasha has a very complicated and nuanced view of the world, and I feel like this conversation encapsulates some of that.
3. The highway fight in Winter Soldier. This is just...whenever we see Natasha absolutely unleash in a fight it’s super sexy, and this is probably my favorite version of that, because it is absolutely “Natasha fighting smart” and “Natasha going up against someone much stronger than she is, and doing pretty damn well for herself.”
4. Natasha-as-leader in Endgame. Okay, so Endgame ultimately did Natasha real dirty, but there were some good moments before then, and the one that stands out to me is the one early in the movie where Steve comes to see her and she is holding a meeting where she is coordinating efforts around the world, is clearly still tapped into the hero life, is trying to hold things together. Tony’s stepped out, Clint’s on a vengeance mission, Steve is trying (sort of) to do good things that aren’t Captain America things. Natasha’s still soldiering on, doing her best to staunch the bleeding.
And she’s clearly tired, and unhappy, but she will keep doing the work. Which is so very Natasha: it doesn’t matter, ultimately, what her personal feelings are. When there’s work to be done, she’ll do it.
5. The airport fight in Civil War. There are two moments in this that stick out to me - there’s the one with her and Clint (”we’re still friends, right?”) where she’s…idk, to me it reads a little like she’s still trying to hang on to both sides. I mean, it’s adorable, and also the fact that she and Clint are basically sparring with each other rather than actually fighting (Wanda calls Clint on it), but also there’s this sense that…Natasha’s never been in this for the ideology. She’s in it for the sake of doing what’s needed to keep her family alive and together.
Which is the second moment, obviously - when she stops T’Challa and lets Steve and Bucky escape. You can see that she knows what it means for her as far as her status, and as far as her other relationships. But she does it anyway, because she knows Steve won’t stop, won’t give up, and in order to keep him alive and safe she needs to let him get out of there - and also trusts that he’s not just running away, but running for a reason. That he has a purpose, and knows what he’s doing.
It’s a lot of faith that she’s giving, and a significant sacrifice she’s making at the same time.
Runner ups included anything with Auntie Nat, the Clint v. Natasha scene from The Avengers that I mentioned before, her intro scene with Bruce that I also mentioned before, and the “she’s not alone” moment from Infinity War.
I JUST LOVE NATASHA A LOT OKAY

Are you planing on ever making By Dawns Early Light into a full blown story? ... And is Thanos an issue in this AU? I think you havent mentioned him in it so well, I wondered?
UMM. *looks over what I’ve got in that tag, and winces*
geez this thing’s longer than some of my actual fics, when did that happen?
Here’s the thing, though: this AU’s meant to be a writer’s-block-buster. Which, if the current evidence is anything to go by, has been a resounding success.
However.
As of right now it’s just that, a thought-and-snippet-writing exercise, because there’s a lot of things that’d need tweaking before I’d even consider posting it on AO3 [aka my inner perfectionist strikes again].
Again, this is mostly just me messing around with a fluffy tumblr-exclusive [for now, anyway] AU because this feels smaller stakes than if I were to round this up and make it into a full-out fic.
Also, in regards to the second part of your ask: not exactly. By Dawn’s Early Light is, at its core, a fairly fluffy self-indulgent AU, which for me is also code for ‘nobody dies if I can help it’ and ‘if the MCU can have a Gary Stu villain then I can do what I want, Deus Ex Machina-levels of fixits included’.
How? Simple. By nerfing the heck out of him, while also unfridging as many other moms as I can, with a side of I-have-yet-to-forgive-the-writers-for-pulling-this-bs-seriously-what-kind-of-writing-was-that.
Here’s how the entire Thanos situation would go down, in By Dawn’s Early Light (spoilers for a fic I have yet to write):
First, let’s take a step back, shall we? This is, among other things, a timeline-crunch AU. There’s a lot going down in a very compressed time frame [originally just because I wanted Howard to still be around just for Tony to be able to punch him, but now I’m invested in this so time go the full nine yards, buckle up everyone].
So. The entire situation around Maria Stark and Tony and Bucky’s been covered fairly well, but to sum up: when Howard turns out to be an abusive asshole of a husband, his wife smiles at him and promptly turns around and burns both SHIELD and Stark Industries, revealing HYDRA and Obadiah Stane’s double-dealing ahead of schedule [unintentional fixits ftw]. In the chaos, Bucky manages to escape and joins up with Maria and Tony as they go in hiding.
Ripple effect that didn’t get mentioned: Hank Pym sees this shit going down, realizes that the most famous missing child in the country is about the same age as his daughter, and decides to not aim to be Absentee Father of the Year. He ends up being a tad overprotective, sure, but is way more involved in his kid’s life and Hope Van Dyne grows up with at least one (1) parental figure in her life, so…there’s that.
Things happen, and the timeline for bringing Janet back gets moved up somehow, right around when the Avengers assemble.
Note to self: adjust part of Scott Lang’s origin story in this? Compare whistleblower laws of that time era, alt. entrance for him could be him somehow helping Tony hide because BDEL!Howard’s the type of petty and vindictive asshole who’d pull some strings if he found out this rando interfered with his search somehow.
Bonus for giving Scott and Hank something to commiserate about, later on, and would also have Tony and Co. feeling indebted to him [which would result in a lot of shiny prototypes and records being expunged, later on, probably]
…though that might be a bit much. Hmm.
Reason to bring Janet back: I do what I want also I think the MCU fridged moms because otherwise they’d be too powerful
Ripple effect that didn’t get mentioned, the second: since this is also the AU where moms get unfridged, Frigga’s going to be derailing the plot from her corner of the galaxy.
Also, since I finally watched Ragnarok but was a mythology nerd as a kid and have a passing knowledge of the comics, time to revamp how Hela fits into this universe.
Okay, she’s still murderous and powerful and ruthless.
Only, turns out there’s a very good reason for it: she was one of Loki’s students [iirc she’s his daughter in the myths, that’s the best I can come up with atm] before Odin saddled her with the thankless duty of being the watchkeeper of Asgard’s enemies and prisoners. As in, Odin just straight-up went ‘hey you look pretty talented, here, I now hold you responsible for this entire goddamn realm of assholes and creeps, if any get out we’re all screwed’.
Which is something Hela absolutely did not sign up for, but she’s now just about the only thing standing between said realm of undesirables and her home so she stays put […also maybe Odin sealed the only way back? Maybe? Idk].
It didn’t help that in the early days, these ruffians thought they could overpower her and escape to wreak havoc. So she had to kick everyone’s ass six ways to Sunday, until they finally accepted her as the head honcho of this dump and as someone Not To Be Fucked With.
Thus, why Hela’s known as the goddess of death and ruler of Helheim.
…and it’s also why she accidentally came to Thanos’ attention.
(Because why the hell not, as if her day wasn’t bad enough Odin you owe her big time—)
Thanos, of course, is in love with her carnage and seems to be the kind of guy who doesn’t take no for an answer. Hela just wants to be left the alone but can’t tell him to fuck off because if she did, she’d risk leaving her home open to attack from enemy agents, which is how we get the story behind why Thanos is known as the madman who courted death.
[Hela: fuck you and the horse you rode in on shoo you bastard and take your stupid flowers with you—]
Thanos was on one of his especially annoying ‘let me woo you with the ashes of this one civilization!’ kicks [Hela: ashes. How romantic. Not. Leave me alone already.] when some of the Dark Elves snuck out and killed Odin.
Hela…is only pissed she couldn’t have done it with her own two hands. Also slightly embarrassed that the Dark Elves escaped in the first place, and relieved that it was only Odin who’d kicked it because his wife had seemed pretty nice, the one time Hela’d seen the lady before she’d been drop-kicked to this hellhole.
Also— apparently she now can leave this place? Sayonara, bitches.
.
Thanos is very displeased when he doesn’t find her standing guard over Helheim when he returns.
Displeased enough to get creative, as far as courting gifts go, and think that if she didn’t like rings or jewelry, well, maybe this Lady Death would appreciate a shiny, fully-assembled Infinity Gauntlet instead.
well…let’s be honest, if it weren’t for his ‘don’t take no for an answer’ thing, you’d have to give the guy props for trying. Nothing says ‘I love you’ more than ‘here have this item of absolute cosmic power’, amirite? [just kidding]
.
Hela now has mixed feelings about Asgard. Before she was crowned Queen of This Dump, she’d been a student of magic, had been used to certain things. There’s quite an element of culture shock to be had, now that she’s back. It’s the first time she’s seen sunlight in thousands of years, and also there’s a lot of systemic changes going on now that some of Odin’s dirty secrets are coming out at last. Turns out she’s not the only one who’d been pressed into duty: some of Loki’s other students[/children in the myths] came back with stories of the same. Fenrir was apparently voluntold to be the guardian of the Reality Stone, Jormungandr had apparently been busy on Midgard […which now had a school of Mystic Arts? Pfft. Overachiever], and the more Hela thought about it the angrier she got.
Especially when it turns out that her teacher had been mocked for suffering a breakdown and was also tortured by the creep who’d been flirting with her for millennia [Everyone: wait what Hela: I am going to KILL THAT BASTARD NEXT TIME I SEE HIM].
However, thanks to Frigga being Frigga and having a crazy-high charisma stat, Hela is still mostly willing to play ball with everyone else on Asgard. Despite her not being happy with how ungrateful the general populace acted [oh, magic’s just ‘tricks’? Here, have a fireball TO THE FACE I FOUGHT MONSTERS WITH THESE TRICKS FOR MILLENNIA].
So when Thanos shows up again, he gets one-shotted by Hela, who’s very very pissy about her vacation being interrupted.
Because this planet has sunlight and hot chocolate and punk rock and she’s got centuries’ worth of time off and she is damn well going to enjoy it.
.
…aka why Thanos is a bit of a non-entity in this one. Again, fixits are the name of the game for this AU.

THE TIME TRAVEL RULES DONT EVEN MAKE SENSE!!! HE WAS W BUCKY AND SAM AGAIN AFTER 5 YEARS AND HE JUST DECIDES TO BOUNCE??? and 2) no more nomad steve also his hair was ugly there was that one johnny bravo post and i literally cannot get over it also 3) forever pissed off that steve talked about PEGGY of all things at a support group for people who lost people due to thanos specifically LIKE WTF just let the man talk about his best friends!!!
🔥winter soldier: best movie fav movie it gave us beautiful sam it was amazing but there were some points where steve was just... not cute lmao like the Iconic bucky vs steve fight the mans is wearing KHAKIS otherwise 10/10 (except it doesn’t pass the bechdel test so like.... 8/10)

For the Do You Ship It Meme from.... idk how long ago, I found it in my saved likes, but anyway. Starker, IronDad, Stony, Stuckony, Stucky, ScienceBros, IronStrange, IronHawk, WinterIron, WinterHawk, Clintasha aaaaaand Carol/Beating Up All The Bad Guys.
Omg thank god you’ve just reblogged it so I don’t have to search for that chart 😂 holy shit, this became a full TED talk and I apologize but uhh let’s get to it:
Starker - obviously OTP and I’d die for it, it’s all about the yearning and the implications and complications but they’re so wholesome and everything each other needs and deserves okay. Let Tony Stark be happy, damn it!!!!!
IronDad - a mix of Cuteness overload and Read fics about it. To be honest I don’t read it much because a) I’ve always preferred mentor!Tony over father figure!Tony and b) as a 24/7 horny hoe I’d rather read the nsfw version of facts lolol but sometimes I’m in the mood for a cathartic h/c IronDad, why not? Not everything works for me because I’m not a big Pepperony fan plus I like May to be very much involved in Peter’s life, but I’ve found some great longfics (big shout out to The Third Option with homeless!Peter and ever in your favor, a Hunger Games AU) thanks Ash for the recs!
Stony - uhhh I ship it but Wouldn’t read a fic about it. This probably doesn’t make any sense but while I’m still somewhat emotionally connected to this ship (read: Endgame was a Stony event and I can totally see Tony being in love with Steve since Avengers 1), the thought of them together after Civil War is too bittersweet so going back there would leave me miserable. I’ve been a very passionate Stony fan in the past, it’s what pulled me into the MCU fandom and what made me join tumblr in the first place. But CW left this horrible bad taste in my mouth and kinda ruined MCU!Steve for me. I honestly thought I’d never read another ship with Tony after that, but then Starker happened and I’m pretty satisfied with it to even consider going back there.
Stuckony - Dunno. I mean.... I’m all for a hot OT3 but I don’t think I could read a canon based fic with this particular trio. Steve is so devoted to Bucky I can’t help but think Tony would be a third wheel and he deserves better.
Stucky - Kinda leaves me indifferent? I’ve never felt the urge to check it out because a) I’ve never been a huge Steve Rogers fan to begin with and b) I don’t feel very connected to MCU!Bucky. I loved TWS but the movies that developed his character the most (TFA and CACW) are not among my favorites so I rarely rewatch them. Such a shame, I know for a fact it’s a BIG fandom with lots of great content and gorgeous art.
ScienceBros - BROTP. They did Bruce dirty in IM3 (honestly, who besides Tony was well written in that movie???) but omg they’re totally friendship goals, I love how comfortable Bruce feels around Tony and how Tony shows his caring, supportive side with him in Avengers 1.
IronStrange - Why not? Okay so I might be biased because I’m a slut for enemies to lovers but I’d have loved to see more of their bantering on screen. It’s funny because they’re so similar I wouldn’t have thought it would work to put them together, but turns out their dynamics are hilarious and fascinating and if I wasn’t a 100% Starker hoe I’d totally consider reading this ship. As it is, I’m happy to see Strange begrudgingly tagging along and helping out whenever Peter or Tony fuck things up, in that exasperated, bitchy way @learned-foot explores so well.
IronHawk - Meh. I’m not familiar with the comics and I don’t think I’ll read a ship involving MCU!Clint anytime soon. I like his relationship with Nat but apart from that I couldn’t care less about his character, especially after his appearance in CW.
WinterIron - Would read a fic about it. I actually have, and was surprisingly okay with it. Lots of room for angst, catharsis and forgiveness which are totally my jam. I kinda prefer the idea of WinterIron over WinterIronSpider (my fear of seeing Tony as a third wheel is showing isn’t it) but uhhh as I’ve said before I don’t feel very connected to Bucky as a character so I don’t think I’d read many canon based fics with these two. Besides, I’m pretty satisfied with Starker and once you find your OTP...
WinterHawk - No thanks. I think I’ve read it before as a side ship in one or two Stony fics but it’s been ages and honestly I don’t care enough about either character to get invested in this ship.
Clintasha - BROTP. I guess I could have shipped them if AoU hadn’t happened but it did and between that mess of BruceNat + Clint having a secret family I kinda lost the interest in knowing whatever the hell happened in Budapest. Wouldn’t say no to finding out in the Black Widow movie tho...
Carol/Beating Up All the Bad Guys - The sexiest pair and We need more of it okay??? Now that’s what I’m talking about! I love Carol and I love Captain Marvel and I fucking love Brie so I want her to be happy in all possible ways, be it beating up all the bad guys or with Maria, or with Valkyrie and preferably with me. I just love Carol and want to see her being badass forever, pls and thank

Full Endgame spoilers/review:
(TL;DR: It was really fucking good. Theres some bad obviously but overall worth it. Even after reading the spoilers and feeling like I may not like it as much as I thought I would... I actually liked it more.)
- - So as I said I loved the movie I had some gripes but overall I thought it was one hell of a fun, entertaining movie. I'll go by each characters story in my review saving Cap and Tony for last.
Natasha- Honestly? Though I think the MCU dropped the ball on the 0G6 being a believable family... I think Nats role in this movie was sweet. I really like the scene where Tony Nat and Bruce were laying down talking about Strange and the stones. It was really cute but it really made me wish we got to see this earlier. Joss dropped the ball hard in AoU. Ive said it one and I'll say it again. AoU should have been the movie where the Avengers were a solid unit throughout the movie.Nats death was... heroic but honestly her and Clint beating the shit out of each other because neither could stand the thought of the other being sacrificed was kinda funny and cute which is jarring to the story. It kinda sucks that she was fridged before the final battle though.
Clint- What are the fucking odds that every one of his family was dusted? But w/e. Clint having a wild sword battle in Japan... it was ridiculous and weird and IDK what they were thinking with that scene but it was played really dramatically but I laughed? Cuz it was so over the top and silly... even though he just slit that guys throat and Nats like :c Clint~ honey no its fine... and they hold hands over the guys warm corpse. LMFAO WHAT!? Im at least happy his kids got him back if nothing else.
Bruce- ... Bruce with Hulks big green body? NICE. Thats gonna have some interesting fanart I can already tell and I lift my glass to you. I once tried to draw a little comic where Bruce and Hulk separated but also had swapped bodies.... so Bruce had Hulks body but I never did finish it I wonder if I still have it saved somewhere. Anyways. Honestly? I found Bruce in this movie to be equal parts funny and annoying? Like it was a bit jarring sometimes that he was so lighthearted despite everything.
Thor- When I read the spoilers I thought I was gonna really dislike Thor but watching it I understood where Thor was coming from and I couldnt really blame him for spiraling and its not like anyone close to him seemed to even check up on him despite clearly knowing where he was. Im really sad that it took all those years and only until he was needed for someone to try and talk Thor through what he was going through. Im not annoyed with Thor. Im annoyed with the rest of them (minus Tony and I guess Clint? Considering.). Bruce was his friend in Ragnarok, Nat keeps talking about them being family, and Steve is their leader where the hell were they? Unless im missing something... I guess Valkyrie too but shes been picking up his slack as a leader and was holding the Asgardians together so I can cut her some slack. ANYWAYS. Thor was kinda funny in the movie but it was kind of hard to enjoy his goofiness. It kind felt like Tony in IM2. Speaking of Im glad Tony seemed really tolerant of Thors drunk behavior... I was sure he would throw a lot of shots like Rocket did. I wish they had a moment to talk about Thor self medicating with booze... Tonys been there. I get why they couldnt really but.. His scene with Frigga was really nice. Frigga is a bad bitch raised by witches and shit.... she knows all~ A wise woman that Frigga.
Scott- HOLY SHIT Did I love Scott in this movie. He was soo funny and cute... and bullied a lot. You know I have a thing for easily bulliable character. And Scott just got spanked left and right. His helpless goofiness reminded me of Harry from KKBB a little. He bounced off everyone well and it makes me kinda wish he was one of the OG6 instead of Clint. He was more of the heart that kept the Avengers together than anyone. Also him and Tony talking about Caps ass? HILARIOUS. Bisexual icons honestly. 'That suit did nothing for your ass.' 'No one asked you to look!' 'I think you look great Cap as far as Im concerned thats Americas ass!' and then later Caps all 'That IS Americas ass.' Unbelievable. But his best scene is still him reuniting with Cassie. She was so big! Im so happy she got her dad back... but Bruces failed time travel machine scene.... that was a close second. 'Somebody peed my pants... idk if it was baby me or old me........ or me me.' Also the 'whats up regular sized man' scene is longer and more hilarious than the preview showed. FUCK YOUR TACO SCOTT. At least Bruce is nice to him. I ship GreenAnt a little. Rocket petting Scott and mockingly calling him a puppy. SAME.
Rhodey- JESUS RHODEY. Speaking of hilarious idiots. Im glad he got a bigger roll in this movie but he didnt hug Tony when he got back so whats the point? BUT W/E... He was hilarious and amazing. It was nice to see him step up as one of the sorta leaders after the snappening. But he was also A HUGE FUCKING DORK THE ENTIRE WAY THROUGH. Thinking that a secret cavern with a spooky name would be boobytrapped like in Indiana Jones and trying to convince Nebula to be careful. Naming a bunch of shitty time travel movies to prove a point about time travel (with Scotts help) and going back in time to kill baby Thanos...and Bruce was like 'yeah... no...' and him fucking TRASHING the magic of the iconic opening scene of the first GotG where Quill is dancing.... 'so hes an idiot?' RHODEY PLEEEEAAASSSEEEE have mercy. Him and Nebula are a trip. Also I made a note to mention Don Cheadles BEAUTIFUL soft voice. So here it is. I love Don Cheadles beautiful soft voice. He had too few scenes with Tony but their first scene when Tony starts freaking out and hes trying to get Tony to calm down was pretty good... and god that ending.... ;-; How come Rhodey got NO lines while Tony was dying? But also in the same position I dont think Id have any words either. I too would just cry. And did... for Tony. But yeah besides his lack of scenes with Tony I really loved Rhodeys scenes. I usually do. Hes adorable.
Nebula: Sweetie... You are just amazing. Shes legit one of the best most solid characters in the movie. The opening scenes between her and Tony? FUCKING adorable. Im sad we dont see more of them after the time skip. I also wish we got a longer scene of Neb and Rocket talking when she gets to earth... I guess just seeing them sit together sadly was enough to portray the emotions but.... I MEAN. More Nebula wouldnt hurt anyone. Having to see two tortured versions of Nebula was upsetting. Future Nebula who lost so much and past Nebula still under Thanos' thumb. 'You can change!' 'He wont let me' OOF. Im sad that past Nebula was killed... but appreciate that even in that moment past Gamora was upset to see her be killed. Im glad with Present Neb, Gamora was so easily heel-face turned. She loves her sister. Also their moment after past Gamora beats up present Quill was hilarious 'Really? This is the guy?' 'The choices were him or a tree.' WHAT ABOUT DRAX, NEBULA?! I know I said I may not watch any MCU movies after this but I might tune in for GotG3 for Nebula (and Thor).
Steve: I actually ENJOYED Steve in this movie for the most part. For the first time in any movie... even by himself I kind of enjoyed Steve. Especially the scene when hes fighting himself and his past self says 'I can do this all day' and hes like 'Tst... yeah I know... okay' Like he was sick of his own damn bullshit. And frankly? Same. Also him whispering 'Hail hydra' to get the scepter? Hilarious. I cant help but see it as a knock at that shitty Hydra Cap comic that everyone hated. But despite me enjoying Steve for most of the film... the MCUs inability to write a good romance and pretending like Steve and Peggys relationship was a peak or something completely undoes it all. It would still NOT BE GREAT regardless but the fact the RUSSOS are the ones who brought Sharon into TWS in the first place makes it SO MUCH WORSE that Steve dipped out. Steve should have moved on... even if it wasnt with Sharon. They could have at least MENTIONED HER but they knew they couldnt because then it would be too highlighted that Steve is a fucking FUCK BOY who used the niece of the woman he loved as a surrogate and that him going back to the past means hes gonna be meeting little Sharon at some point. Also? Really? Steve you have this whole new family you supposedly love and can live your life with but you rather go back in the past because the first woman who was nice to you was there? Move on. Its so fucking weird that hes so obsessed with her. You have your childhood friend and the rest of your new friends... and supposedly a girlfriend. IDK how anyone could be happy with that ending for him. But I guess its in character... remember the note he sent Tony 'I've been on my own since I was 18.' What about Bucky? He was there with you and you had family in the Avengers supposedly. Natasha seemed to think so. YOURE SUCH A FUCKIN SCUMBAG STEVE. Jesus.
Tony: First of all Id just LOVED his scenes with Nebula as I said. He sat there patiently teaching how to play paper football and held her win. It was REALLY cute. When he passed out she picked him up off the floor and sat him down on the chair and pat him. REAL CUTE. He nicknamed her 'The Blue Meanie' its cute and he tried to give her the last of their food but she insisted he eat it. Bobbos eyes never looked more gorgeous than in that scene where Carol finds them honestly. Tonys I told you so was really really sad. It had a lot of feeling like that scene in AoU when he laughs hysterically and starts ranting? Rhodey tried to calm him down but he just ripped into Cap. Also he yanked off his arc reactor and I FULLY JUMPED IN PANIC because I forgot it wasnt in him. I fully flinched. But he pulled his heart out and gave it to Steve and then passed out. Tony and Peppers daughter is ADORABLE. And her interactions with Tony are so sweet. Domestic Tony is lovely. I love that when Steve and the gang roll up on him Morgan runs out during their discussion and is like 'Mom told me to come and save you....' and hes like 'Well Ive been saved!' REAL CUTE. Also he swore and his daughter copied him and hes like NOOOOO!!!!!!! LMAO. LANGUAGE Tony. Tony is motivated to fix things seeing that pic of him and Peter. Hes such a softie. IM REALLY REALLY SAD that we finally see Pepper kinda GET Tonys need to be Iron Man and is like 'But could you rest?'. The one time she encourages him to go back to be Iron Man and he fucking DIES. Im so sad for Pepper. But that scene between them where shes like 'We'll be ok.... you can rest now.' FUCK. Im crying again. That scene between him and Steve- 'Someone shoula warned you~' 'You did...' 'Oh did I? Thank god Im here' has the same energy as 'Who taught you how to dance?' 'You did.' 'Well Ive done a marvelous job!' It was pretty great. Tonys nicknames for Scott are 'Pissant' and 'Thumbelina.' Im not OVERLY fond of his scenes with Howard. But honestly? My brother is the same way with our dad... he just chooses to forget the bad stuff and focus on the few good times. I cant do that but if it made Tony happier then VERY WELL. I wish Tony coulda talked to Jarvis too tho... just a word... anything? Best Tony scene is Peter babbling about how he musta passed out because Tony was gone and and and and Tony just hugs him so tightly and Peters hugs back and is like :D 'this is nice'! Though that STARK contrast of them after Tony uses the gauntlet... and Peter is like 'Mr Stark... we won... we did it... no Mr Stark...' Big Simba and Mufasa feels (and kind of Hughes and Elicia tbh). Not cool Disney. I was already crying. Rhodey was the first to reach Tony and Tony couldnt say ANYTHING to anyone and Rhodey just pets his cheek... Tony was just looking around as his family just has to watch helplessly as hes dying and Pepper tells him its ok. His funeral was really nice. He recorded a message for everyone kind of like his message for Pepper on the ship. Everyone was there... I think even Harley (Im really sad we didnt see them get reunited even once). The scene with Happy and Morgan was really sweet. 'I'll buy all the cheeseburgers you want....' It was cool to because... ya know.... Jon Favreau. He got a really beautiful end. I wish he could just retire and live with Pep and Morgan... but if he had to die... that was a really lovely sendoff. SO ALL IN ALL. Awesome movie. I didnt get to see past elderly Steve passing the shield off to Sam... I'll have to rewatch it again when theres a better version. Especially for that fucking STUNNING end battle. Even with the shitty cam I watched it looked AMAZING and I cant wait for it in HD.

My Thoughts on Endgame: A Very Spoiler-Heavy Review
Yeah we’re talking about pretty much all of it, so buckle up.
Alright y’all, here we go. I saw endgame yesterday, and I think I’ve finally compiled all of my thoughts. So a couple things before I start.
1.      There will be VERY heavy spoilers, like, so many. I have tagged this post with every tag I can figure out about spoilers, and I’m starting this post with stating it. If you have not seen the movie and don’t want spoilers, please do not read this post. I feel I have warned you sufficiently, so don’t get mad at me.
2.      This is going to be a really LONG and in depth post. I apologize, but I need to talk about this.
3.      If I refer to the people making the movie, I am talking about both the Russo’s and Markus & McFeely. I feel that all four of them were involved enough to lump them altogether.
4.      This is likely not going to be a super positive post, so know that.
5.      I may have a few controversial opinions. I’m not here to attack anyone’s opinions personally. These are just mine. I’m totally willing to have a civil discussion about stuff.
Now that we know where we all are. I’m gonna start off with what I thought were the positives.
·        Steve wielding Mjolnir. HOLY SHIT. I think that is literally my new favorite shot in the MCU. Steve standing there with the Hammer and his shield honestly took my comic loving ass’s breath away.
·        A bit of an extension of that last point, but the wide shot of Steve standing there alone, facing all of Thanos and his army? Hot damn? That was such a beautiful shot.
·        Most of the movie before the five years later was what I’m going to sum up as ‘pretty good’, i.e. I don’t have too many complaints.
·        “That is America’s Ass” (do I need to explain this one?)
·        Natasha basically holding everything together for 5 years, just trying to hold herself together when Steve walks in? Wow, break my heart why don’t you.
·        AVENGERS….assemble.
·        Falcon saying on your left
·        Strange looking at Tony before the end and slowly holding up one finger.
·        Scott’s breakdown and frantically looking for Cassie’s name on the memorial (Like, shout out to Paul Rudd’s acting there, cause damn I felt that)
·        Captain Marvel (and here’s where we get controversial kids) was in the movie very minimally
Look, I’m sure there’s some other good stuff that I’m just not remembering. But that’s the stuff that really stuck out to me.
OHHHHHHKAY, deep breath because here we go. I want to start off talking about tone. For me, it was all over the place. Phase 3 as a whole in the MCU has been really tonally off for me. I know this is not a common opinion, because everyone I saw this movie with had the humor really land for them. Still, for me I felt the humor was really off. It always feels jarring to me when they juxtapose death with a joke.
Now that we’ve gotten tone out of the way. Let me go through by characters. Because this movie really suffered as far as characterization and plot. So let’s talk characters first.
Tony:
Gotta really preface this one. I have never really liked Tony as a character. So take everything I say with that in mind. This is going to sound biased.
So- three big things for me as far as Tony.
1.      It REALLY bothers me that Tony would just fuck off for five years. (Look this one is really biased, I can acknowledge that) After being the one to always be about winning no matter what, Pepper even says something along the lines of would you be able to live with yourself? So the idea of him just leaving and not helping even remotely rubs me the wrong way. And apparently all it took was seeing a picture of Peter to change his mind? Idk not sold.
a.      This didn’t really fit anywhere else but I wanted to touch on it because it bothered me. But WHAT THE FRESH FUCK do you mean by reverse the Mobius strip. WHAT. The WHOLE point of a Mobius strip is that there is only ONE side. (Like I know this doesn’t matter literally at all but hot damn does it fire me up for no reason)
2.      Tony & Howard. Let’s discuss. I’m honestly really confused what they (see preface #3) were going for with this interaction. The way I always read the relationship was that Howard was very neglectful and emotionally manipulative. The MCU has never given me the impression that the two had a good relationship. So, what was this interaction supposed to be? Was it supposed to be closure? Idk I have a hard time figuring this scene. If you have thoughts on this one let me know.
3.      Alright, Tony doing the final snap. We gotta talk. I know this was more of an MCU thing. Like I get that Tony started the MCU so it fits that he would be the one to end this arc. But I am just personally really mad that I don’t think Nebula got the closure she deserved as a character. I guess you could argue that killing her ‘alternate timeline’ (oh don’t worry, we’ll get to that) self is ‘closure’ but she didn’t even get to try and fight Thanos. After everything he did to her, and after killing Gamora, I felt she deserved something. Basically, Tony performing the snap made no sense in context of character arc (like everything in this damn movie), and it should’ve been someone else.
a.      I’m not sure how I feel about Tony dying. Not sure it worked for his arc but I’m sort of happy that this will be a moving on for the MCU.
Steve:
I wish I could articulate through text the incredibly deep and long sigh that I just gave. Steve they did you dirty.
You know what we’re talking about, but let me say it anyway with a couple Fuck’s just to let me vent. WHAT THE FUCK WAS THE ENDING. HOW THE FUCK DID THAT HAPPEN. HOW THE FUCK DID THEY THINK THAT WAS A GOOD IDEA. WHY THE FUCK DID THEY RUIN HIM LIKE THAT.
Okay, now that I’ve gotten that I’ve gotten that out of the way. Let’s talk about this a little more calmly. I’m so disappointed. I feel like everyone else has done this in more detail and since I’ve already be working on this for like an hour, I’m going to try and summarize this.
Steve’s entire arc was about moving on from whatever bad things have happened in the past and still being a good person.  It’s about learning how finding new people and having new experiences can help you grow from whatever has happened to you in the past. It is so incredibly frustrating to watch them throw that away. Peggy and Steve never dated, at least as far as what the MCU showed us. Peggy died, she had a good fulfilling life. She moved on. She tells Steve later that she has no regrets about her life, only that he didn’t get to live his.
Beyond that what about Bucky, Sam, Natasha, even Fury and Tony, and the rest of the Avengers. So he just threw all of those relationships away?
Side tangent. Bucky should’ve been the new Cap. Don’t get me wrong, Sam Wilson is incredible and I think he’ll be great. But damn they did Bucky just as dirty. I think it makes more sense to have Bucky be the new Cap. Bucky is also a super soldier. He has a form of serum and could actually do what Steve did. Sam is not a super soldier (as far as the MCU) and he, while still an incredible fighter, just isn’t as powerful as Steve was.
Anyway, I’m bitter, I’m mad, and I’m so incredibly disappointed that this is the message they went for as Steve’s farewell to the MCU.
Thor
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh boy. What did they (I’m including Hemsworth this time too) do to you Thor. I feel like I must preface that I did not like Ragnorok. However I did think that the character arc they had for Thor was good.
Two major things:
1.      We gotta talk about the weight. This is another thing where I just don’t get where they were going with it. They have completely destroyed whatever character the MCU was trying to build. Why has the fucking GOD OF THUNDER been reduced to a constant punchline? Wow.
a.      Also yeah, we also gotta touch on Fornite. Fucking yikes Marvel. That is not going to age well. This is just super cringe worthy and another one of those tone issues I was talking about.
2.      He left Asgard?????? The Fuck? After everything that’s happened he’s just going to dick around with the guardians?
a.      Don’t get me wrong Val is going to kick ass
b.      Also let me tell you, I am not looking forward to Thor being in guardians 3. I literally cannot stand the interactions between Peter Quill and Thor and I am dreading the next guardians now.
Other people have definitely gone into further depth when it comes to Thor so I feel like it’s been covered.
Bruce
I don’t like it, I don’t have a solution, but I don’t like it.
Natasha
Damn I feel like a broken record, but Nat they did you dirty. She did not deserve to die. Like I said in the positives section, she literally held the Avengers together for FIVE years when it was very clear that Tony and Bruce had fucked off and Steve was busy helping individuals. I think she was pretty damn redeemed. Like shit the whole series is her trusting people and finding a family in the Avengers.
Clint
Aight so let’s get it out there. Clint is one of my favorite characters of ALL time. Yeah I’m biased. I will never deny that. I have been bitching since 2012 that the MCU has destroyed Clint. This movie is no exception. I’m kinda just talking about the whole soul stone scene here. As soon as I saw that it was Clint and Nat going to Voromir, I knew Nat was dying. I literally gasped in the theatre and covered my mouth as I quietly chanted no no no no no. My friend sitting next to me didn’t get it but I wasn’t about to tell him. Both of them deserved so much better and yes I’m hardcore Clintasha and have been since 2012. So them fighting over who was going to sacrifice themself absolutely destroyed me.
So thanks Marvel, I hate it.
That’s the O6. I don’t have major thoughts on every secondary character, but I do on one.
Scott
Hot damn, this is really personally to me. But why is Scott always portrayed as an idiot, the butt of a joke. The man literally has a MASTERS IN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING. As someone who is about to get an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering this really pisses me off. Just because he doesn’t understand quantum mechanics he’s treated like a joke. AGHHAHGHAGHAGH
Alright folks let’s do it. Let’s talk plot.
I’m of the opinion that time travel is never good for a series. It opens to many doors and makes to many confusing problems.
I cannot stand how they’ve defined the rules of time travel in this. They actually just made it a get out of jail free card and then they broke them anyway? I’m honestly just tired and confused at this point.
What happened to Loki when he disappeared with the space stone? How did Thanos come to a future where he was already dead when the Doctor Strange movie implied you can’t travel past your death?
Why were we denied seeing everyone snap back into existence? You really denied us all those reunions. So much of the movie was slow and quiet, why couldn’t that have been too.
How the fuck did none of them die when Thanos blew up Avengers headquarters?
What are the implications of all the timelines they created (oh wait the movie decided that all established movie time travel rules are dumb because we want to write without concern)? A 2012 where Steve knows about Bucky but Hydra thinks he’s on their side? What did Hank Pym do when he found out a bunch of his particles were taken? Was Howard different as a father because of a talk he had with that same son? How the fuck are Peter and all his friends still the same age?
Marvel you simply cannot do shit like this. You can’t throw out established rules simply because your story wouldn’t work without changing them. NEWS FLASH that means your story is shitty. Get better at writing or don’t use time travel. You can’t ignore stuff like butterfly effect. Or simply disregard changing your own past. You can’t just say ‘alternate timeline’ and solve it. Are you opening up the MCU to the multiverse? Or is this just a contrivance for your plot to work.
In conclusion TL:DR there was a good movie in here somewhere. But the plot was so riddle with holes and mistakes. They threw out character in favor of fan service. All of the years of work that was put in to build these characters is now out the window. I hope you’re happy Marvel.
Agree with me? Cool. Don’t Agree? Cool. I’m glad some people actually like the movie. Is this everything I wanted to say? No, I’m probably forgetting something. But here’s a lot of how I felt.
