hi all; i’m back on my bullshit (writing in the kpop sphere); i’ve been in fandom spaces for most of my life but wlw kpop writing truly used to feel like home. i really hope you all enjoy what i post!

my askbox is currently open for requests for drabbles, headcanons, most-to-leasts, scenarios, reactions and general kpop girlgroup chitchat. i write both sfw and nsfw content, and i ask that minors do not interact with anything i post.

A/N: I love you too, Lua anon! I’m so happy that I get to write one of these for Lua you don’t even know she’s my life so thank you for sending one in. I hope you love it!

You should have known that Doyeon was up to something when she volunteered to throw the annual holiday party at her house instead of leaving it up to Suyeon, who always threw it. She knew too much, and the smile she threw your way after she volunteered sent a shiver through your spine. Something was going to happen, and you had a good idea what that something would be.

“Doyeon isn’t evil, she probably just wanted to change things up! Don’t worry so much,” Elly had assured you, but you couldn’t help but feel nervous as you walked up to Doyeon’s door and raised your hand to knock. Doyeon had found out about your crush when she overheard you talking to Elly and Suyeon about it, and she’d been determined to “help” you ever since. But usually those attempts had ended up in disaster, and honestly, you probably should have just pretended to be sick.

“(Y/N), you made it! Come on in!” Doyeon’s grin was big (too big) and you gave her a smile as you stepped inside, resigning yourself to whatever fate awaited you inside.

To your surprise, the first half of the night went smoothly. Doyeon had managed to set up an amazing spread of sweets and finger foods, and Yoojung had helped her with the games and drinks. All of you surprised Suyeon with a gift she’d been wanting for a while, and she cried, and then the games started without a hitch. Everyone was happy and warm and everything was normal.

So you’d let your guard down, and ended up with Lua in the kitchen.

“This years party is so much fun,” she said, the smile that had made you fall in love with her on her lips. “Of course Yoojung would be able to think up holiday-themed would you rather questions. She never ceases to amaze me.”

“Doyeon is lucky she has her,” you said, nodding in agreement. “I think this party would have probably been a lot more of a disaster if it was just her.”

“No kidding.” She giggled and grabbed one more cookie, nodding towards the doorway into the living room, where the other girls were sitting. “What do you say we get back in there before they decide to start the next game without us?” Something about Lua always made your heart jump a little, but at least now you could hold normal conversations with her without blushing or getting embarrassed.

“Let’s go, then.”

The two of you had barely stepped into the doorway before Doyeon jumped up and pointed above your head.

“Mistletoe!” Of course. Of course she did. Your heart began to beat faster as you looked up. It was mistletoe, alright. How many of the other girls had walked through here before you and Lua? Was everyone in on this?

“Doyeon,” Lua said, her voice a little higher than usual out of embarrassment. Doyeon just grinned.

“You guys are under it, you can’t break the rules.”

“So many other people walked through this door tonight, why just us?” You questioned, hoping that you face wasn’t too red. You didn’t dare look at Lua.

“You two were the only two to go through together,” Yoojung said, and you really doubted it, but Doyeon sighed loudly before you could say anything else.

“Stop stalling and just kiss already!”

Your eyes flitted over to look at Lua, and she was flushed as well, looking shyly at the ground.

“Well, I guess we have no choice.” She looked up and laughed nervously.

“I guess so.”

Somehow, you got the courage to lean in first, and she met you halfway. It was a small, shy kiss, nothing like Doyeon had probably wanted, but it still made you blush deeply when you pulled away, heart pounding.

“Awe, come on,” Doyeon complained, but Lua stuck out her tongue at you and stepped forward, out from under the mistletoe.

“If you want someone to make out under the mistletoe, why don’t you and Yoojung do it?” The smaller girl perked up and looked up at her girlfriend.

“Yeah, why don’t we do it?”

“You gave them ideas,” you groaned as you followed Lua over to the only two empty seats (beside each other, of course). She just laughed softly and sat down, blush still on her cheeks. The rest of the girls had started to protest as Yoojung jumped up and grabbed Doyeon’s hand to pull her over to the doorway, and Lucy was whining something about her “poor, innocent eyes”.

“At least the attention is off of us,” she said, and you had to agree. This was much better. Swallowing, you looked from the rest of your friends back to Lua. She was so pretty tonight. And she wasn’t disgusted. Maybe you had a chance.

“Hey. Do you want to go get coffee with me sometime?” Her eyebrows raised, and a smile began to make its way onto her lips.

“Are you asking me on a date?”

“If that’s okay with you, yes.” She was smiling again, and she shyly bumped her arm against yours.

“I’d love to.” Her hand rested over yours while the rest of the group was distracted, and even though it was fleeting, it made you giddy. Maybe you owed Doyeon a little bit of a thank you after all.

Yoojung runs for her dear life back to the apartment she shares with her friend, you, because she’d told you that she was at home making you dinner when she actually had been at her homie’s place playing video games for almost the whole day. But it wasn’t her fault that she had been there for so long! In fact, it's Suyeon’ fault for winning all the time although she doesn’t play with nearly as much passion as Yoojung. Couldn’t she just put her pride to the side and let the younger win for once?

That isn’t the point. The point is that Yoojung has promised to make her roommate food because lately you've been a little more stressed out than usual due to your passion for your work and she wanted to do something nice for you… Which explains why she’s running for her dear life, checking her phone for how many minutes left there were until the delivery person was outside their door with one or two bags of noodles.

“Fucking hell,” she curses when she slips on the ice covered ground and almost falls face first.

After speeding down the sidewalk — well, with the highest speed one can walk on ice without risking death — she sees the apartment complex and sighs out of relief, the cold air making her warm breath visible. She puts turns the key to the place and she immediately scurries inside, only to stop when she sees a random person with two bags of food just a few meters away. Yes! She’d made it before the food arrived! After taking the bags and handing a few coins to the noodle person, she hurried inside to put the noodles in a pot to create the illusion of Yoojung actually making food — not burnt food!

She checks her phone for the first time since she was trying out for the Olympics outside. 16:19. She’s here any minute now, she tells herself and takes off her outerwear and puts them in their correct places as fast as possible, to make it seem like she didn’t walk through the door just a few minutes before. The sound of someone walking outside freaks her out and her reflex is to throw herself on the couch and act like she’s sleeping.

Creaks fills her ears followed by the sound of someone taking off their shoes. Her roommate ___. You just arrived from work.

“Yoooooojung!” you call out, thinking she might be locked inside her room, and get no response from the fake-sleeping woman. You check the hall then go to the living room, meeting the view of a cute girl with cute hair and cute fake freckles scattered across her red cheeks on the couch. Your smile grows slightly at her peaceful state.

Wait…

Red cheeks!

Your first reaction is to worry and crouch down next to her on the floor. Gently, you bring her little hand into yours, so she won’t wake up from her fake sleep (that you still aren’t aware of) and feel an alarming cold. Not really alarming, but cold enough for you to do something about it. Your feet take you elsewhere only to return to crouch by the couch. Suddenly the woman feels something embracing her body. It’s a thick and smooth fabric, warming her up the second it comes in contact with her. She brought a blanket for me? I must be a good actor then; she smiles inwardly at her talent at lying while you're thoughtful enough to pull the blanket higher up to cover her pink chin.

The internal smile wipes away when she now feels warm hands on the sides of her waist. What is she doing? she asks herself rhetorically, fully paranoid. How do I know it’s ___ and not anybody else? she asks herself, slowly growing anxious. Whoever it is who’s touching her is now delicately touching the sides of her legs, going lower and lower…

Soon her feet are lifted into the air… What if a murderer is touching me? Or a demon? I might’ve heard her — or its — voice but what if it’s a clone?! …and puff her legs are dropped onto something fluffy. Is she tucking me in? After that, you do the same thing to her arms until she is restricted and can’t move. She burritoed my claustrophobic ass—

“Fuck, why are you so cold, Babygirl?” she hears ___’s usually-sharp-now-soft voice close to her face as a wind of a fragrance from Rihanna’s perfume collection is swept on her face (which is all she needs to know that it’s ___; ___ always smells good, and everyone knows Rihanna’s perfumes smell like Rihanna and thus the closest one can get to smelling like a Goddess).

Wait— Babygirl? Blushing is her first reaction and she is so fucking glad that her cheeks are already red from the temperature. Then again, you wouldn’t have called her Babygirl and made her blush in the first place if it weren’t for her red cheeks. She can feel your eyes on her. Looking at her. Examining her. How can I make her warmer?

Tea. Chamomile tea. That’s what she needs. I’ll let her rest for a few more minutes until the tea is finished, you decide.

Whilst you are making tea in the kitchen, smiling at “the dinner Yoojung had made for you”, said woman is just chilling in the living room, still flustered about the caring side of her roommate who usually only focuses on work and doesn’t show much attention or affection for anything or anyone. She likes this side of you. Maybe she should act sick once a month. Once a week? Once a da— But why did you even call her Babygirl in the first place? And why did it make her blush? And why the heck was she overthinking it?

You walk back to her with a yellow Sponge Bob cup filled with hot tea in your hand and put it on the table before you leave again. Yoojung can smell the soothing herb scent of the cup next to her as she hears you approaching again, this time with a honey jar in one hand and a teaspoon in the other.

“Wake up, sleepy head,” you lightly shake her to try to wake her up, though she’s already awake.

Her eyes slowly open as if she’s been sleeping all along, maintaining the movie star status.

“Drink this while it’s hot,” you say softly, yet demanding.

“G'day to you too,” she replies with a big and sincere smile that is just a tiny bit too smug.

She breaks the burrito effect and sits up on the couch, thinking the blanket was everything that made her sweat. No. She is sweating because of what you said, and all thoughts that have been running around her head since then.

You puts multiple spoons of honey into the tea. “This might not be vegan, but I don’t wanna get sick and get behind at work because of you so you have to drink up every single drop,” you make up an excuse for your caring side, making Yoojung chuckle.

“Why did you tuck me in?” she asks with a neutral tone to not make you feel uncomfortable about being soft and caring.

She’s excited for the answer…

“Well, you were cold so,” you reply fast as an attempt not to sound too concerned about her.

For every second passing her smile grows more and more. “And…why did you call me that?” she looks into your eyes, looking for a real answer.

“Call you what?” you answer the question with a question.

“Babygirl,” she says so content, so delighted, so warm.

You try to think of a good answer to no avail when you realize something… “How did you know I said that?”

Oopsie! Her smile falters a little. All she can do is stutter out parts of sentences that do not make any sense at all, trying her best to come up with a justification.

“Did you act like you were sleeping?” you lean against the couch amusingly at how you dodged an uncomfortable explaining and instead turned your cutie of a roommate into a blushing, stuttering mess.

What the Shrek do I do now? she asks himself internally as she panics. Her smirk grows greater as she gets the best idea ever. Should I really say it? What if I’ve misheard her tone? What if she thinks it’s actually weird— Fuck it, it’s now or never.

She smiles so fucking prettily and stares into your eyes, pouting, “I’m sorry, Mommy, I’ve been a bad girl.”

Overall

☆ Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d predicted? While currently I am a little disappointed (because I have a fic almost finished that it's resisting to end), looking back at my expectations at the beginning of the year, I definitely wrote more than I expected I know that wordwise is very similar and that I actually wrote less stories than last year, but the fics themselves are longer, so that's something that I'm very proud of.

☆ What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January? For pairing, kenvi! I know that they are super boyfriends but I never expected that I'd write, or plot, fics not centered around Hakyeon.

But to be honest, while I love thinking about it and reading it, I never thought I would be writing WekiMeki fic either! So that was a very happy surprise too!

☆ What’s your own favorite story of the year? The one I didn't manage to finish. It's completely self indulgent.

Ironically, any of the ones that I wrote for vixxmas. All of them are parts of a bigger fic that I told someone at some point, so I was very excited to write even a little snippet of them, and I cherish them a lot.

☆ Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them? Aiming for bigger goals overall. I learned that it's possible, just that I need a little more time than what it would take the average writer. I'm still coming to terms with that, but every finished story gets me a little closer.

☆ Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year? Write more neo! Definitely! For how much I love them, I don't write about them as much?? And that can't be. Also keeping up with the lenght growth.

☆ My goals from last year were to write fic that wasn't for someone else (which I tried) and to write girl group fic (which I did!)

☆ From my past year of writing, what was…

★ My best story of this year

I think that Nbin roadtrip AU. It took me 6 months, but it's the first story that I actually edited and reread before posting it and I'm very very happy with the result.

★ My most popular story of this year Going by the numbers, Nbin roadtrip AU hands down. It has the best hits:kudos ratio, and the highest number of kudos, bookmarks AND comments. That doesn't mean that the dodaeng one did badly though!

★ Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion Difficult to say, because a handful of the stories were posted the same day I'm writing this, but probably the one where taekwoon and wonshik argue over who's puppy is cuter, because it's gen and no one reads gen.

★ Most fun story to write none because writing HURTS AND IT'S A PAIN AND Actually... all of them were very very fun to write. Of course, the crack ones on the vixxmas were specially done to be fun, but I also had lots of fun writing the nbin and dodaeng one, and the kenvi was a delight??? even if it was super short, it was great.

★ Story with the single sexiest moment The one with Wonshik going to see Jaehwan perform as Hamlet. Hands down. There's something about writing kisses, almost kisses, that I love and find super sexy, even more than actual kisses. The anticipation of the feeling, the electricity... perfect.

★ Most “Holy crap, that’s wrong, even for you” story If something had to go in here, it would be the one with wonshik and taekwoon fighting because the title and description and everything but the tags is intentionally misleading.

★ Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters The dodaeng fic. I liked them but having to write about them meant knowing them on a different level, and that of course changed things.

★ Hardest story to write Nbin roadtrip AU, the editing part was a PAIN. But in the end it was worth it.

★ Biggest disappointment I am mostly disappointed on the fics that I couldn't write, or finish. Very. Because I was very set onto but life got in the way.

★ Biggest surprise The dodaeng, aka the second fic with more than 3k! I didn't think I would be able to do it, although I had hopes.

(And what if for a moment he wished he was in that position again, feeling his lips hovering close, teasing. Until he finally leaned in. And what if he gasped, the memory of that kiss feeling too real. Of his hands sneaking under, of his quiet laugh against his neck)

He can almost hear Jaehwan's voice telling him to wait, wait until he's far away so there's less chance of getting caught, remembers the feeling of the cool sheets on his back and the way he was tickling his arm as he did, and laughs a little to himself, because Wonshik has never been good at being patient.

Now that he's facing the reality of wearing knives on his shoes he might be having second thoughts.

4.

"I can enjoy nice things," he manages to retort, a second too late, "I just don't think that... thing can be called nice."

5.

"What," Hongbin snaps. All of them are looking at him curiously from their seats, and Hongbin tries very hard to not blush. "You're staring," Sanghyuk says as he gets back to his seat after making sure he has his full attention, "again." "I wasn't staring," Hongbin denies. Wonshik stifles a laugh from the other side of the car at that and Hongbin squints at him.

21. “Are you mad at me?” + Hwang Minhyun + idol! reader

You were a pretty chill person if you had to say so. You never got mad at your members even if they ruined your clothes, never yelled at someone for doing something because you would much rather just talk it out with them and get some food afterwards.

Now, even if you were a chill person, you also were human meaning you did get jealous. Not a lot but sometimes, Hwang Minhyun is so perfect you can’t help but feel a little insecure even though your group was there to assure you otherwise.

“But like I just don’t get it. We could have easily done the special stage with them instead of Weki Meki” (no offense to my girls, I love you Lucy) you complained one night after it was announced that Wanna One and Weki MEKI were collaborating. You also were kind of tipsy but that’s beside the point. Your group mates just laughed at you.

“There’s always next year” your leader assured you but you pouted and took another drink of your alcohol. Before you guys could continue with your little bonding time, the doorbell rung and you went to go get the door to prove you could definitely do that without falling. Yeah, the alcohol was getting to you.

“Hel- oh it’s you” you said with a giggle once you opened the door. Speak of the devil, Minhyun was right in front of you.

“What are you doing here?”

“You told me to come over”

“Oh yeah I did”

By this time, your group mates have figured out that Minhyun showed up. Deciding that this would be a good time to leave you two alone because they were such good human beings, they left to go get ice cream. Without you of course.

“Y/n are you mad at me?” Minhyun asked you once they left. You raised an eyebrow. You were pretty sure you showed no signs of being mad.

“No, what makes you say that?” You answered looking suspiciously at him like he was a fortune teller or something. Your boyfriend was magical.

“Because you didn’t hug me like usual and you have a can of beer in your hand” he pointed out. You looked down and realized that he was indeed correct.

“Oh I’m not mad, maybe jealous, but definitely not mad” you said putting down the can and giving Minhyun his hug.

“Better?”

“No you smell like beer”

“…I hate you”

“No you don’t”

“You know what? I didn’t think this through.” Yoojung bit her lip and gave you a sheepish smile. It would have been cute, had your hand not been stuck to hers, a gross, green goop seeping between your fingers as you tried to pull away, only to get more of the sticky substance on your hand.

“You don’t say. What is this stuff, anyway?”

“Slime.” She pulled her hand hard, making you stumble forward and almost knock her over. Quickly, you put your free hand on her shoulder to steady both of you, trying not to get whatever this was on your clothes. “It was just supposed to be a prank, I didn’t mean for it to get stuck!”

“What did you make it with?”

“Glue.”

“So of course it’s sticking.”

She huffed. “The recipe said to add glue! Did I add too much?” She moved her other hand but you caught it before she could touch the slime.

“Don’t! We both need free hands here.”

“Oh. Right.”

“Let’s see if Google can help us.”

Thankfully, she’d grabbed your non-dominate hand, so after the two of you maneuvered to the computer, it wasn’t too hard to type your question into Google.

How to get glue slime off hands?

Most of the answers weren’t very helpful, more about getting stains or tiny pieces off, but when you asked about the specific recipe that Yoojung had tried, a whole list of options for removing glue came up. For a moment, the two of you just stared at the screen.

“Eggs, vinegar, and toothpaste? That doesn’t seem right,” Yoojung said, wrinkling her nose.

“We don’t really have any other choice but the try them. As much as I like you, I don’t want to be stuck to you forever.”

“So should we just try them one by one?”

You looked at the seemingly endless list of options and let out a sigh. It was going to be a long evening. “Yeah, I guess we should.”

The eggs, vinegar, and toothpaste didn’t work. Neither did the vinegar and water, the peanut butter, the milk, or just furiously scrubbing with soap. The glue on your hands was not going away, no matter what the two of you tried.

“Maybe we should go to the emergency room,” Yoojung suggested, her head on the desk, staring at her laptop. “None of this is working.”

“I’m not sure what they’d be able to do. Our hands are too close together to just cut the slime without it cutting us.” You wiggled your fingers, now numb. With a groan, Yoojung sat up.

“If we can get this off our hands, I’ll never play another prank on you again in my life.”

“Wow, that’s quite the promise there.”

“I mean it! You hear me, universe? I’ve learned my lesson!” She looked up at the ceiling and shook her free hand, making you laugh.

“I’m going to keep you to that, you know.”

“If we ever free ourselves.”

You glanced back at the laptop, scanning over the list again. Then, one result caught your eye. “Hey, do you have any nail polish remover?”

“Yeah, why?”

“Let’s try that.”

“Well, I guess it can’t hurt.”

It took the entire bottle of nail polish remover and lots of scrubbing, but after fifteen minutes, your hand was finally free again. You gazed at it in relief, wiggling your fingers as feeling came back to the tips. Yoojung, ever dramatic, let out a loud sigh of relief and slumped against the bathroom wall, clutching at her hand.

“I’m never messing with glue again.”

“That’s a great idea.” You wrinkled your nose. “I have a feeling I’m never getting this green stain off my skin. Why couldn’t you have chosen pink or something?”

“Because green is spooky!” She kissed her hand. “I think the green is kind of cool. Maybe we can go as slime monsters for Halloween.”

“No. No more slime. Ever.”

“Not even store bought?”

You sent her a pointed look, making her grin sheepishly. “No and I mean it. Also, remember that promise you made?”

“My fingers were crossed!” She jumped up, shaking her head. “You can’t hold me to that.”

“I know good and well that your fingers weren’t crossed. So I’m looking forward to a prank-free Halloween.” Triumphantly, you smiled and walked out of the bathroom, making her groan and complain loudly as she ran out behind you.

“That’s no fun! (Y/N)!” She pouted, but no amount of her cuteness would get her out of this one. Finally, you had out-smarted her.

A/N: I hope this is what you had in mind! 💕

Lua loved you. She really did. You were great and she was so happy to be dating you. But sometimes, your ideas were a little… much. Even for her. Especially when it came to couple costumes on Halloween.

“Absolutely not.”

“Awe, Lua, come on! This is perfect!” You pouted, but no amount of pouting would make her give in when you were holding a t-shirt that said “I’m with the witch” in bold print on it. “You know, since you’re-.”

“I get it, but no. That’s so lame, it’s not even a costume. It’s just a t-shirt. Plus….” She raised her eyebrows and crossed her arms. “Are you saying I should just go as myself?”

“Yes?” You grinned. “I mean, obviously you would spruce it up a little bit, wear robes and all that jazz. But a bunch of people go as witches on Halloween!”

“Witches don’t dress up as themselves though.”

“True, but you could be the first?” You were lucky that you were so cute when you smiled, because she felt a little insulted. Sighing, she shook her head.

“Why can’t you choose something else? It’s Halloween, we could go as so many other things! I’d be down to go as like, literally anything else.”

A mischievous twinkle made its way into your eyes as you grinned and raised your eyebrows. “Anything else?”

She had a sinking feeling that she’d just walked into a trap as she nodded her head. “Yes?”

“Then… How about these?” You pulled out two costumes that you’d somehow hidden on a rack behind you without her noticing, and she let out a long-suffering sigh. The costumes were comically big matching blow-up sumo wrestling costumes. She had walked right into this one, but at least it was better than going as herself on Halloween.

“Fine. We’ll go as sumo wrestlers this year. But next year, I get to choose the costumes.”

“Nice!” You grinned and turned away, and she noticed that you still had the t-shirt in hand as well. Shaking her head, she snapped her fingers and muttered a spell under her breath that made you start walking back towards her. Whining, you let it happen. “Come on, it’s funny!”

“No. The t-shirt, and I’ll let you go.”

“Fine.” Pouting, you pulled out the t-shirt and handed it to her, making her grin happily and snap her fingers again, undoing the spell.

“Thank you, babe,” she said happily, giving you a kiss on the cheek. You huffed, but still looked smug, happy to have gotten your way with the costumes.

“I’m going to go pay for these, okay?”

“Okay.” She watched as you walked away with a mischievous grin of her own, once again whispering a spell under her breath. You couldn’t out-smart a witch.

“Dammit, Lua! The beard isn’t funny anymore, make it go away!”

“Out of all the costumes you could have chose to wear, you had to chose this one.” Lua put her hands on her hips, stepping away from where she’d been perfecting her own costume in the mirror to take a better look at you, a smile on her face. “It’s absolutely horrifying.”

“Well, thank you,” you said, smiling (even though she couldn’t see it under your mask) and posing for her. “I knew this plague doctor costume wouldn’t disappoint. The mask alone is scary enough.” You were right, of course. The pointed nose and red, hollow eyes were the scariest part of the outfit. But the tattered wide-brimmed hat, the hood, and the blood-stained robes you wore added the finishing touches. Not to mention that the cane you were carrying seemed more like a murder weapon than a walking stick.

“I’m not sure a plague doctor and a doll match though,” Lua said, turning to once again look at herself in the mirror. She was wearing a scary doll costume, with makeup to make her face look like cracked porcelain, a stained cyber-punk looking dress, and even a wind-up crank on her back, held on by a hidden belt. She looked kind of scary herself, but it was nothing compared to your costume.

“We’ll match costumes next year. I think you look good in your costume, though.”

“Well thank you!” She did a little twirl before taking your arm. “Should we get going to the costume party?”

At that exact moment, the doorbell rang, and the two of you looked at each other. You had bought candy to sit outside the door while you were gone, but it looked like the kids were coming pretty early this year. Although your face was hidden, she could see the gears turning in your head, and she frowned.

“No.”

“What?”

“I know exactly what you want to do and I’m saying no.”

You let out a little whine and put your hands together in a pleading position. It looked a little creepy in costume. “Come on, just let me scare a few trick-or-treaters!”

She didn’t budge. “You’re going to horrify them!”

The doorbell rang again, and you darted away from her. “It’ll build character. Just once?”

She sighed, conceding. “Fine. But if their parents get mad at you, that’s your own fault.” She could tell that you were grinning behind your mask as you strolled over to the door, picking up the bowl of candy before throwing the door open.

On the other side of the door stood two younger kids, probably about nine or ten, who stepped back and stared up at you with wide eyes. Lua, watching from behind, couldn’t help but be a little bit amused at their scared faces. For a second, they were so shocked that they couldn’t even speak. Then, the older looking one of the two cleared his throat.

“Trick-or-treat,” he squeaked, holding out his bag and prompting the other kid to do the same. You regarded them quietly for a moment, taking your time as you leaned in close with jerky movements.

Then, in the deepest voice you could possibly muster, you nodded and thumped your cane on the ground. “No plague here.” The kids’ eyes widened even further, but they stood still as you dropped two things of candy into their bags. “Go on, now!” You thumped your cane again and they both scurried away, back to their mother, who looked amused as well, giving you a little wave as you closed the door.

“You’re horrible,” Lua said as soon as the door was closed, even though she was fighting a laugh herself. “Those kids were terrified!”

“It was funny, you have to admit.”

“I think you’re a little too excited about your costume this year.” She slipped her arm into yours again and grinned. “I’m going to make you dress up as two halves of an Oreo next year as punishment.”

“I bet I can make that scary,” you said with a shrug, and she laughed, gently shoving your shoulder. As over-excited about Halloween as you were, it was fun celebrating with you. There was never a boring minute with you in costume, and she was completely fine with that.

“Whatever. If we don’t get a move on, we’ll be late for the party.”

“Oh, right. Can I scare more kids on the way there?”

“Absolutely not!”
